Located near Meknes in north-central Morocco, this archaeological site offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience culture and discover history.
Wander around and your gaze will be drawn to impressive structures such as the basilica, triumphal arch, and forum, all covered with intricate mosaics depicting scenes from Greek mythology. Though many of these have been damaged over the centuries by earthquakes or looters, they still provide a fascinating insight into life during Roman times.
In addition to the grandeur of its ruins, Volubilis holds some other secrets too; it's home to several unique species of plants that aren't found anywhere else in North Africa.
As you wander through the olive groves and palm trees, keep an eye out for lilies called 'thousand flowers', a type of wild iris which blooms between April and May each year. The sight is truly magnificent!
Volubilis may not be as large or well-preserved as some other historical sites in Morocco, but it certainly deserves a visit for those interested in discovering more about this nation's past.
From its glorious monuments to its flora and fauna – there's something here for everyone who loves learning about ancient cultures!

2024.05.19 08:10 Crypto_lad_41 Should I ask my friend on a date and risk making my brother mad.

Okay, so this post is a little odd, i know, but….
My brother and I are both in school to get our doctor of medicine degree together. I was dating a girl for 4 years and was going to propose after graduating but she cheated and left me for another guy. It’s been 6 months and i’m over it already. My brother has been dating a girl for 5 years but and they have a great relationship but she won’t leave her toxic family and she refuses to come live with us while we’re in school because again, she doesn’t want to leave her family. My brother doesn’t want to live near her family either. He often talks to me about breaking up with her because she won’t leave her family but he NEVER does.
So I guess you could say my type when it comes to girls are Burnetts with brown eyes, while my brother mostly seemed dates girls with blond hair and blue eyes.
So there is a girl in our friend group at school who is blond and has blue eyes. We both think she is very attractive and she is super kind and smart. Although in my past dating history every girl I dated was a burnetts with brown eyes (not that I was trying, it just turned out that way funny enough), I do think this girl is super attractive. But my brother also does and she is his type. He often mentions about breaking up with his girlfriend and he also often mentions how hot this girl is. We have 2 very different personalities.
Should I leave the girl alone because my brother likes her and talks about how he might break up with his girlfriend because of her not wanting to move away from her family? He would never cheat but i know if they break up he will try to start dating her. I just don’t know if they will break up though.
Or
Should I ask the girl on date because i’m single and we’re good friends and possible risk getting my brother mad?
Again, i know this sounds so stupid but I don’t want to be a jerk to my brother.

2024.05.19 08:08 PauravKS TLDR; want help buying the perfect family off-road car 🥺

Hello,
I currently own a Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 2020 model and a Toyota Prado 2008 model.
Prado is the love of my life. 16 years now, but problems with transmission and Toyota’s inability to provide official assistance (they recommended going to a private garage) are compelling me to sell it.
Wrangler was fun but the entire car shakes and vibrates at high speeds and there’s something about it that just gives me red flag feelings in my gut that I’ll have problems in the future.
So I’m in the market for a new cacars but I’m very confused.
I definitely want an SUV. I’m a Dubai kid and climbing my vehicle onto anything I want, when I need to, is a must. High ground clearance is important, I don’t want to be damaging my underbody regularly.
I’m not a hardcore off-roader but I’m an enthusiastic road-tripper and aspiring off-roader. So on those spontaneous road-trip days to the mountains, the car should perform. Same for those twice a year desert trips and perhaps even if I start doing it more regularly with a group like the one here, to learn more.
Keeping that in mind, I do want a car that won’t let me down on the dunes, for which I’m guessing I should look for a combination of power and light weight. So what would that be?
Now it gets more interesting. I also like the idea of a truck. We’re enthusiastic interior designers, buying second hand furniture frequently and a truck bed would help us not have to shell out money on a Pathan pickup every time. But not sure what truck would tick the powerful, lightweight, good for off-road criteria?
We’re also a growing family so I want a crew cab with comfort on the inside, by which I mean:
Good leg room, fridge, cruise control, front side airbags, good safety features, wireless Apple car play, wireless charging would be a dream, leather seats, big sunroof.
So what’s a good off-road capable car, potentially a truck, that’s also comfortable on the inside, and does not break the bank?
Budget is not a big criteria, but I do want to be sensible and keep it as low as I can.
I’m aware it’s entirely possible that I want too many different kinds of things in one car, which may not be possible - but figured no harm in having a discussion.
I like Toyota for reliability and resale value. But Hilux GR Sport is unavailable now. (Was even considering new LC70 because it’s cool, but don’t think it’d be right and it’s unavailable too).
Other options are Nissan, Chevrolet, GMC, Ram, Ford.
Im open to Chinese cars but apprehensive about reliability, service and maintenance infrastructure (non-dealership garages not that established yet) and also resale value.
Finally, I’m wondering if I should sell both cars and buy two – One Hyundai Palisade type car that ticks all the family comfort boxes and another truck that ticks the off-road adventure capability and fun boxes.
Someone help me please! :) Thanks!

2024.05.19 08:08 Iam-scared-of-myself Venting about people, systems, racism, the world in general. NO HATE TOWARDS ANYONE, THIS IS JUST VENTING FRUSTRATION

*CONTAINS SWEARING*
This is gonna be a hefty and most likely triggering post for specific groups of people out there (meaning people who struggle with anger, people who don't want poltical content/opinions etc), so please stop reading and leave if you figure this is gonna be rough for you. This will (mainly) be about the conflict between Palestine and Israel. (and apparently a long one) No hate towards any specific groups of people, but I do have a lot of *frustration regarding behaviours*.
Before I start, I want you to remember some facts about me as you read;
I am autistic
I am heavily influenced by world peace, hate, racism and other unfair situations
I have incredibly high standards for myself that I strive to not break, including, but not limited to, being kind and respectful *always*, despite being in a bad mood, not liking someone, or disagreeing, especially political disagreements
I have always, and will always, stand against widespread hate, racism and other discrimination towards any specific religions, ethnicities, nationalities, cultures, etc.
I also want you to know that I named this throwaway accordingly.
So let's get this shitshow started then, shall we.
As the details of the conflict stands, it is beyond obvious to me that this is racism and, literally, a Holocaust. Not *the* Holocaust, but *a* Holocaust. Oxford Languages has the term defined as a destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war . I'd say that's very much accurate. Proof to come.
Regardless, this situation has had me very pressed the last almost 8 months, as I know most other people have been too. Without getting too much into the conflict itself, I want to talk a little about what I've seen from the Jewish community.
This is where I advise anyone who struggles with anger especially to leave and try to keep your day positive. If you have a magical potion to stay stable after this, who am I to stop you...
Alright, onto the dreaded part. And yes, I am stalling.
I have never, and I truly mean *never* had any hateful thoughts or opinions about religions (other than Christianity but that's one for another time), and as we are all aware of, The Holocaust had massive effect on the world some 80 years ago. I have always seen Jews as victims due to this, but in recent times I've realised that a lot of them, too, see themselves as victims. The issue is that they aren't the victims right now. They (Israel) aren't defending themselves, they have nothing to defend themselves against. Israel is currently doing the exact same thing as Germany did to them, to Palestine. Sure, maybe at some point who knows when, Palestine *was* the land of Jews, but since then, multiple religions have been thriving together on that land, including Jews. They were never excluded. From what I've understood, there weren't any wars or conflicts going on within the country that didn't happen elsewhere. The issue began when in the late 1940's zionists brutally murdered families to steal their homes. I'm sure the situation was so much more complex than that, but in a nutshell that is basically it. The fact that everyone today have been so desensitized from the travesties happening around the world is depressing and hope-killing. I truly am well on the way to giving up, and at this point in time I'm so angry all the time due to the Middle East's situation.
So a few weeks ago, probably closing in on months at this point, I randomly got a notification from reddit about someone posting on /Jewish. They didn't say anything explicit, so I pressed the notification and I was met with the worst victimization and ignorance I've ever seen. I truly believed most jews would see this for what it is, and not let some racist maniac spoon-feed them propaganda and hate, but I was brutally and humbly proven wrong. They were mocking proPAL parades, hating on news anchors and civilians alike calling this a genocide, insisting that Israel has no other choice, saying "casualties happens in war", convincing each other that zionism is a good thing, and feeling sorry for themselves when friends and families cut contact because they said they supported Israel and saw this as the only solution. Some might have been genuine problems, idk, but for the most part, that subreddit seems to only be about hating the rest of the world because their great grandparents were killed. I know I sound like a complete asshole, but the world isn't antisemetic anymore - they are actively looking for it and then using that one person telling them to stop feeling so sorry for themselves as proof that everybody in the world wants to throw them back in gas chambers.
I commented on my personal once where I mentioned that judaism and zionism are two separate things and got downvoted to oblivion. Someone replied saying that my comment was very much exactly what they too feel, but I got downvoted *simply because* I referred to them as separate entities. That is another criticism they've recieved lately; the pure idea of zionism is on the complete opposite side from what Judaism stands for. I've seen so many of the members there calling Jews protesting against Israel "self-hating" and traitors.
I've also made so many replies that I never sent because I know for a fact they would do anything in their power to ban me from ever using reddit again, and I wouldn't be surprised if I got doxxed and harrassed IRL from it. I saved them all, though. I found that it was kind of therapeutic to get it out, but it still bugs me that I never found a way to say it to them. I once also made a post about my rage for their behaviour connected to this genocide, but I thankfully stopped myself before I posted it. I'm so enraged by their sheer ignorance and hypocritical behaviour, all the while Gaza is still being eradicated and slaughtered, war crimes happening day in-day out, inhumane atrocities by the IOF being posted and hailed, and they have the audacity to say that they are the victims? That Israel has no other choice but martyring tens of thousands of CHILDREN? Starving the entire Gaza Strip, segregating West Bank, literally teaching their young in school to hate and attack arabs? That last one might not be true as I don't speak Hebrew or Arabic, so anyone could've just made up the translation, but I still feel it's worth mentioning in case it actually *is* real.
My point is that the guts they have to claim to be so moral, yet still be so unfaced from what's happening in Gaza is beside me. Sure, for those living near the Gaza wall, I'm positive that hearing bombs and screams were traumatizing as fuck, but to then leave for work the next day and claim that "shit happens"? It's insane! It's inhumane. They can leave whenever they like, children can play football (soccer) in the streets and not having to worry about shit, hotels and restaurants with 5-star ratings thriving, plants and flowers still blooming, absolutely no threats on a daily basis. The fact that people are still calling this a war, something necessary, is beyond devastating to me. There are millions still siding with zionism, claiming there's nothing wrong with the belief that you have an innate right to some dirt simply because your holy book says that thousands of years ago, your religion lived there, and simply because of that religious fact you are rightfully owed thousands of young lives, the death of an entire country with its own culture, just to feed the irrational religious political system? How in God's name has that ever, *IS* that still okay? If Muslims were the ones saying that shit, they would've been completely destroyed by now, today's generation wouldn't know what the fuck Islam was. They are still being slaughtered though, because they're saying it's *not* okay. How is that not racist again?
My brother and I got into a heated argument a few days ago about this. I am very much *for* Palestine to have human rights and to own their own land - he is very much *against* "ugly blackies" having any rights because they're *not* human. Boi when I tell you I got so angry I started crying. And the worst part about that fight? He claims that Jews aren't any better, however they still deserve to defend themselves against children running on the beach. "But Hamas-" is so over-used and outdated by now, it just proves that he doesn't follow up on statistics and evidence. Even if there only were one-sided news (from Gaza), the fact that the ICJ ruled Israel's actions a genocide and war crimes still proves everything he claims to be "n*****'s propaganda". And the fact that he so underminds my autism and *need* for factual evidence before discussing it also goes to show that he genuinely does not care about anything other than the black "terrorists" being eradicated. I said "So you're not just a racist, you're just plain racist?" he just scoffed and looked at me as if I just said the most nonsensical bullshit gibberish ever, practically saying "I'm not gonna say anything, but it really took you that long to realise?" Either that, or he actually didn't comprehend the words coming out of my mouth, like it was a foreign language or something. Because he genuinely does not have a single reason to be racist.
He can't even blame suicide attacks because 1) not all are carried by muslims, and 2) between 1981-2015 around 45,000 were killed by suicide attacks worldwide, where in 2019 the total death toll was only 1,699 more than amount of attacks; whereas in Gaza, between Oct 7 to present there are about 34,000 confirmed palestinian deaths, and assumed around 42,000 with unconfirmed deaths. If, in 36 years, "muslim terrorism" killed about the same amount as Israel has in almost 8 months, how on earth are Arabs the terrorists?
And I've also seen the argument that 30,000 is nothing compared to the total population in Gaza, as if that makes it okay. I will, again, make example of The Holocaust. When 30,000 Jews were martyred, people were already catching on, and this was without the technology we have today.
How have we been allowing this to happen to Palestinians *with* our technology today? Why haven't people been doing more; striking our jobs, cummute chauffeurs striking, proper permanent boycotts, more coverage from news anchors and private people alike? Even if it is to officially reclaim your love for white supremacy, you're still talking about it. Why are people still not reading up on this? Why does millions still not know that this *didn't* begin on October 7th? And why are there still those who claim that the past doesn't matter today? I have so many questions, and if I do get an answer I will only end up with more questions. How hasn't the world stopped over this? Why are people so okay knowing that there are children being intentionally murdered every single day? How can you go to work and talk about Dave's new tie? Or your 6 year old's birthday party with 15 other 6 year olds? Hasn't it crossed your mind that if the roles were reversed, your precious princess would be the one burried under tons of rubble, dying slowly while simontaniously starving, dehydrating, suffocating and crushing, and *knowing* that absolutely no one cares because you're [skin color] and it's normal for your kids to be horrendously massacred? "Oh but the Taliban-ISIS-Al Qaeda" OKAY so what are you gonna do to help save innocent lives and suffering??? How are you gonna contribute to STOP these organizations that have manipulated and murdered to rule their country and are intentionally making the citicens miserable? Are you even aware that your own govurnment is essentially the same fucking thing, just disguised as a well dressed, polite gentleman? Aren't you sick of all those ads on TV showing brown children with flies in their eyes? Or your mama telling you to think about the starving children in Africa? Because I am.
I am so sick and tired of how inhumane humans have come to be. You don't see animals (and I'm trying my best to not mention how humans *are* animals, guess I failed) intentionally kill another animal simply because they're that animal. They kill prey; polar bears kill seals, seals kill penguins, penguins kill fish, fish kill amoebas, and you can get to that result from absolutely everything. What you don't find as a natural event is a golden, brown mane lion attack and kill an albino lion simply because it's albino. You don't see a school of fish swim away from one with two heads, because "*omg Jared is such a freak with his two heads*." So why the FUCK DID WE START DOING THAT? Where did this hunger for power come from? You *will* see a female lion tell the king that enough is enough, and he *will* accept that. I could go on and on for DAYS if I got the chance, but I don't wanna get too off topic here.
I've started a list of all the universally illegal shit Israel has done, and once I'm satisfied with it, I'll make one comparing Israel to Palestine, and then Arabs/Muslims as a whole. I can guarantee that I will still hear "on-sided sources" still, or "You can't trust Wikipedia!" Have you ever tried to edit or create an article on Wikipedia? I have, and I had to confirm that I had a degree or a current valid work ID to prove that I was elgible to speak on the topic. I tried to make a site for myself... Sure, there are more trustworthy sites, but even in a discussion about wether or not being trans is a mental illness, where I quoted and linked all of the most well known official sources like WHO, I was still slapped with "but this shady ass article from a random Deutch website that explicitly says everything I've said, yet still isn't actually saying the same thing because I misquoted and mixed the words to form my own sentence says that it is" when they literally linked a website called "disabled world". I will say though, I agree with that name. Today's world is so non-funtional for neurotypical, hetero, white MEN, it's no fucking wonder everyone else are classified as disabled or whatever. Also, on that disabled topic, if you've made it this far, please don't say "differently abled". A quote unquote quote (heh geddit? cuz it's rephrased and I don't have the book near me rn to directly quote) from Devon Price's "Unmasking Autism" that I really like: "You wouldn't say "a person with Asianness", you'd say "an Asian person"." We are disabled because today's world isn't made for us, and for the most part isn't even accomodated or accessible to us. We are different, yeah, but literally everyone is. We just got that term because we can't do the same things as you (assuming you're neurotypical) without aid. We are able, just not like you. Of course, if an autistic person tells you they prefer "person with autism", listen to them! But most of us embrace it as a part of us because we can't just get rid of it. Autism is what make me me, I wouldn't be me without my autism, so I *am* autistic, for better or for worse. :)
I find it kinda ironic that I started this as a venting about a lot of Jews' hypocritical behaviour, and now ending up on autism. Yaknow, cuz Dr. Asperger during WW2 experimented and tortured autistic people, and found out that some where more alike him than others, which then coined the term Aspergers for the Autistic Community.
Anywho, I feel better now, so thanks for letting me vent a little (a lot). I want to finish off by restating my intro; I have not, and will not tolerate any hate, racism or discrimination towards any religion, ethnicity, nationality, culture etc. This post is not intended as a rant about how aweful jews are, because they're not. I just wanted to air some frustration over their behaviour regarding I/P genocide. This is also not about *all* Jews, but that's the same discussion as "not all men" so I'll leave it at that.
I will delete this account in a week, so if you have any questions, be fast ig. If you find I've mis-phrased, used irrationally insensitive wording or any other complaints that calls for a repost, I will fix it and post an updated version. My DMs will also be available if that should be of interest, but I will not be responding to hate or personal attacks for my opinions. If the issue is my wording, again, tell me and I'll fix it.
At this point I've written so much that I don't remember if I found anything myself that I figured was worth fixing, and I've proof read it so many times that my eyes are crossing and giving me a headache lol
Gosh I'm scared of posting this. I don't want anyone to read this and think I support what A. H. did in 1940 cuz I cannot begin to describe my hatred for that man

2024.05.19 08:04 RiceOk6210 Confused

I just saw my ex tonight for the first time in months & now i don’t know how to feel. For context i am the one that broke up with her & i am the one that told her we shouldn’t talk or be friends anymore months after the breakup. Let me give you guys the back story. She was my first relationship ever & she my was my first time. She was my first everything & i feel like that’s why it’s so hard for me to move on. When we started dating she told me about her past relationship which was over a year before we started talking & she said it was very toxic. She told me about how she was cheated on & how she stayed & all these different things about how bad it was. Hearing these things just made me want to show her what real love was even though she was my first love. As u can predict , our relationship was pretty toxic. She would always try to end things with me & block me & I would always beg for her back & we would always end up making up. A couple of months into the relationship I just started feeling drained honestly but i just loved her so much that I wanted to work through it. Her birthday came around & I threw a party for her at my house and made it super special. The next morning I decided to go through her phone because she would always follow guys back & had random guys on her spam. I found out that everytime we stopped talking or “broke up” for the night, she would text some guys & all these different things. I don’t know if she physically cheated or if texting guys is even considered cheating at all but I was hurt. I confronted her about it & she got mad at me & I ended up begging for her back. We stayed together for a couple of months after that incident but i felt so different. I couldn’t let any of that go so then one day i just decided to break up with her. It was hard for me but I had to for my mental well being. A few weeks after she texted me saying she was pregnant. So we continued talking & We ended up getting an abortion. It was so hard for the both of us & i continued to try to be there for her because I cared for her still obviously. We would still hangout & go out on dates & stuff like that for a few months. One day i found out she was having sex with one of my homies during that whole time & I was honestly so hurt. My whole friend group knew about it & nobody told me anything. The whole time i was being there for her because she was hurt about the abortion, she was having sex with my friend & risking getting pregnant again. I was still friends with that whole group & i was confused as to why they chose her over me. I introduced her to them & i had been friends with them since middle school. It was a tough point in my life because i felt like i lost everything & i was honestly suicidal. I cut things off with her completely & with that whole group. I saw her again a few months after that & she wanted to be friends still but i told her it was just best for the both of us to stop talking. A month after that encounter she shows up to my workplace with a new guy. She’s now been dating him for a couple of months & i don’t understand how she could just move on so fast from everything that happened. I’m still hurt to this day & the thought of being with someone else right now doesn’t sit right with me. Tonight was the first time seeing her in like 5 months & i decided ed to write this post because I honestly have no one to talk to. If u read this whole thing, thank i so much. Typing this made me feel a whole lot better.

2024.05.19 08:03 heartypickle 25F New to dating - please advise!

For context, I (25F) have never been in a relationship and I’ve never really dated (a few random dates in college but they didn’t really go anywhere). There’s an old friend from high school that I reconnected with on a visit home (technically the brother of a really good high school friend but that’s a different story) and things kind of took a turn.
We didn’t have any history or anything like that so when he asked to hang out I didn’t think much of it. We ended up going to a museum to walk around and that’s when it became obvious of what his intentions were - standing close by, touching my waist, close up conversations, etc. I was a little taken aback since he hadn’t mentioned anything about liking me. We ended our time with lunch (which he didn’t pay for mine - not a huge deal I guess but I would have thought if he wanted it to be a date then he would have offered??) and he had his hand on my leg while in the car on the way back home.
I guess I’m just a little lost on how to respond. I don’t like making people feel bad about themselves or anything like that (which is why I didn’t say anything in the moment but now wish I would have) but I wish he had mentioned something, anything, about what was happening.
This happened several months ago and we hadn’t talked much since then. Well now, I’ll see him tomorrow since I’m back in town and we’ll be at the same place. I’m not really sure if I like him in that way and I never really imagined going that direction with him (we live in different states about 6 hrs apart and we’re in slightly different places in life) but he wants to hang out again and I don’t know what to do.
Keep in mind my lack of experience. I do want to have a relationship and it’s something I’m looking forward to, but I’d hate to string him along if I’m not sure about him - plus the living in different states would add a layer of complexity.
I guess I’m wondering if I should see what happens and “practice” (for lack of a better word) dating or if it’s just going to complicate things and hurt someone. But the I also wonder WHAT IF ya know!

🔗Comfortable Rechargeable LED Neck Light for Hands-Free Use

https://preview.redd.it/7bzsk4f3qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa95386c69929972b6b8f1f8157a9c04f9013efa
I've been using the BRAUN 290 Lumen LED Neck Light for a while now and I must say, it's been a game-changer in my daily life. Not only is it comfortable to wear around my neck, but the twist-focus lens also allows me to adjust the beam to fit my needs perfectly.
One of the coolest things about this neck light is the versatility it offers. I've used it for some serious crafting, to keep the light just where I need it, and for those tiny sewing threads and fine knitting yarns. The fact that I could wear it for hours without any discomfort was a huge plus.
The light's battery life is impressive too. It lasted about 4 to 5 hours of constant use and recharges in just 3 hours. The charging cord that came with it was a bit of a hassle since I couldn't use my MacBook's USB-C cord, but thankfully an old iPad USB charger worked fine.
There were a few drawbacks though. The focus system could be improved - sometimes it was hard to adjust, especially with grimy or grease-laden hands. And the battery level indicator wasn't the most accurate. But overall, this LED Neck Light has been a reliable and effective tool in my daily life.

🔗Super Bright Rechargeable LED Flashlight with 900000 Lumens

https://preview.redd.it/t27hbby3qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bfcca1771bcb540cd0be90cfad5f5298b326313
A couple of months ago, I stumbled upon the super bright NJ Forever Flashlight. It's rechargeable and boasts an impressive 900,000 lumens, making it perfect for emergency situations or outdoor activities. The fact that it's IPx6 waterproof and comes with a USB cable is a big plus, as it ensures the flashlight can handle a bit of splashing and makes charging a breeze.
However, something I wasn't particularly fond of was the chemical warning. It's the "Prop 65 warning, " which means this product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer. That aside, I must admit I've been quite impressed with how long the flashlight lasted during my tests; it consistently ran for about 12 hours on a single charge. The battery it uses is a Nickel–Metal Hydride battery, and while not as common as other battery types, it's still reliable and efficient.

🔗Compact, Durable Rechargeable Focus Flashlight with Laser Pointer

https://preview.redd.it/n3ve24d4qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8889b16d6c37690ba18b65d7feaf5aa30b8c1fe8
The Klein Tools Rechargeable Focus LED Flashlight with Laser is a fantastic tool that I've been using daily for several months now. Its lithium-ion battery provides a full 12 hours of runtime, which is perfect for my needs. The adjustable focus is a great feature, allowing me to easily switch between spotlight and floodlight modes. The pinpoint accuracy of the Class IIIa red laser has been incredibly helpful for pinpointing objects in hard-to-reach places. The strong magnetic end cap lets me operate hands-free, while the removable pocket clip ensures easy accessibility.
One thing I particularly appreciate about this flashlight is its durability. It withstands the pressures of daily use, as evidenced by its 10-foot drop rating and IP54 water- and dust-resistant construction. However, one downside I've noticed is that the laser has stopped functioning after just a few months of use. This is quite disappointing, especially given the product's otherwise impressive performance. I'm also not a big fan of the switch mechanism, which is quite sensitive, making it easy to accidentally turn the light on or off.
Overall, the Klein Tools Rechargeable Focus LED Flashlight with Laser has been a reliable and useful addition to my tool collection. Despite the concerns regarding the laser and the switch, the product's other features have made it a worthwhile investment.

🔗Ultra-Bright 12000 Lumen Flashlight for Emergency and Outdoor Use

https://preview.redd.it/3jb56cj4qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b5ba0c5532480ec2abcb0058df75222f6be8455
These SKNSL Rechargeable LED Flashlights truly shine with their impressive 900,000 lumen output, providing brightness you can count on. I was particularly drawn to the 7 modes, making it a versatile choice for all kinds of adventures.
One thing I really appreciated is the use of COB technology in these flashlights. It made the focus easily adjustable, switching between wide range and spot illumination, greatly aiding in my detection of surroundings.
However, it did take some getting used to with handling the light for long periods of time due to the intense brightness, which felt more like a sun's intense glare.
But overall, these LED flashlights provide a powerful and rechargeable source of light in emergencies or during your outdoor treks. With their IP6 waterproof rating and strong aluminum alloy body, they are built to handle any weather or situation.

🔗Gorilla Grip Powerful LED Tactical Flashlight for Adventure

https://preview.redd.it/ii0bwbz4qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a255218e527c98c3e7da22082c23b9dd2769bd3
As a devoted outdoor enthusiast, I've always carried a trusty flashlight with me on my adventures. But the Gorilla Grip LED Flashlight took my breath away! Imagine holding a tiny light source that could pierce through the darkest forests and illuminate the most remote trails.
The five adjustable modes made it versatile, handy, and practical, from a smooth and steady beam for hiking to a blinding strobe for emergencies. The flashlight is surprisingly light, thanks to its compact size, yet packed with a robust 345 lumen LED light that shines for 9.5 hours on a single set of AAA batteries.
The shock-resistant and water-resistant build gave me peace of mind, knowing that I could rely on this superb companion no matter the weather or terrain. It seamlessly fits in my pocket without feeling cumbersome or bulky. This Gorilla Grip Flashlight has become an essential part of my outdoor gear, and it's truly earned its spot as my new best friend.

Buyer's Guide

A car flashlight is an indispensable tool for any vehicle owner. Here are the important features, considerations, and advice to keep in mind when shopping for a car flashlight.

Feature Types

Car flashlights come in two main types: compact or keychain flashlights, and powerful handheld flashlights. Compact flashlights are designed to be small and easy to store while providing adequate light in emergency situations. A powerful handheld flashlight, however, offers a brighter and more durable light ideal for more demanding situations.

https://preview.redd.it/0t0sjvj5qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce5c9caf87b4294b4383ea771f9a06e99d1ee9a6

Light Output

The brightness of a car flashlight is measured in lumens. Look for a flashlight with at least 100 lumens if you need a basic model for emergencies. For more demanding tasks, consider 200 lumens or more. Most high-quality handheld flashlights will offer a higher lumen rating, which will be more beneficial in outdoor environments or long-term power outages.

Power Source

Car flashlights can be powered by alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable batteries. Alkaline batteries are widely available and affordable, but they typically provide a lower runtime than lithium batteries. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, offer better performance and longer battery life, but they are more expensive. Some high-end flashlights use rechargeable batteries that can be charged using a USB cord. This can be convenient but may require a power source to be charged on the go.

Durability

Since car flashlights are designed to be stored in a vehicle, you need one that is durable and resistant to water. Look for flashlights with water-resistant or waterproof ratings. This will ensure that your flashlight is protected from water, moisture, and other elements found in the typical car environment.

https://preview.redd.it/f06sfjy5qb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5a93813b0e3679123e813fd18dccdeb55a55e4c

Portability and Storage

A good car flashlight should be easy to carry, small enough to store in your glove compartment, and have a secure mounting option. Many flashlights come with magnetic bases or adhesive bases for hands-free usage. Some models may also have belt clips for easier carry.

Beam Distance

The beam distance of a flashlight is the distance at which it can produce a visible light. Look for a flashlight with a beam distance of at least 100 feet for basic emergency situations or 150 feet or more for more demanding tasks. The beam distance can vary depending on the model and battery type.

Additional Features

Some car flashlights come with additional features like built-in charging ports, adjustable beam focus, and integrated strobe light or emergency signals. While these features are not always necessary, they can enhance the overall utility and functionality of the flashlight.

Brand and Reviews

When choosing a car flashlight, consider purchasing from a reputable brand known for their quality products. Look for reviews from other customers to get an idea of the flashlight's performance, reliability, and build quality.
Remember, the best car flashlight for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. By considering the features, considerations, and advice outlined in this guide, you can make an informed decision and find the perfect car flashlight to suit your needs.

FAQ

Why do I need a car flashlight?

A car flashlight is an essential tool for any motorist. A good car flashlight also provides a reliable source of light in case of power outages or when your regular flashlight batteries run out.

  • Brightness: Choose a flashlight with a high lumen output for better visibility.

  • Battery Life: A long-lasting battery is essential, especially if you don't have access to power sources.
  • Modes: Different flashlight modes (e. g. , high, low, strobe) provide flexibility in various situations.
  • Water Resistance: Choose a flashlight with some level of water resistance to protect it from accidental splashes.

How do I choose the right size for my car flashlight?

What are the best car flashlight brands?

Some popular brands in the car flashlight market include Streamlight, Maglite, Fenix, and Olight. These brands are known for providing high-quality products with excellent durability, reliability, and features.

How much should I expect to spend on a good car flashlight?

Can I use my car flashlight as a regular flashlight?

Yes, most car flashlights can be used as your regular flashlight. However, they might not be as compact or portable due to their larger size and additional features. It's always a good idea to have a compact, rechargeable AA/AAA battery flashlight in addition to your car flashlight for everyday use.

What do I do if my car flashlight stops working?

If your car flashlight stops working, first check if the batteries are dead. If the batteries seem fine, try replacing the light bulb or LED if possible. If that doesn't work, contact the manufacturer or the retailer where you purchased the flashlight for assistance in troubleshooting or getting it repaired or replaced.

2024.05.19 08:03 rabid_neighbor I (NB19) need friends because I only enjoy hanging out with my bf.

My boyfriend is out of town celebrating his best friend’s 21st birthday. They are naturally going out for his first legal drink at a bar, (which I am not allowed in) so I stayed home.
I thought it would be nice to be at home alone because lately it’s all I’ve been craving after work. As an extreme introvert I need a lot of time to recharge and I haven’t been able to do so since my bf moved in. But a few hours in and I am BORED OUT OF MY MIND.
I moved here from my hometown in August and I haven’t gotten super close to anyone. I have never really had more than two friends at a time, and I’ve always had people come up to me, so it seemed for a while friends just came naturally, even if it was superficial and very few far in between.
I cut contact with everyone I knew besides my family for my own mental health. I just wanted to start fresh. I’ve noticed, though, that for MONTHS. I’ve been going to work then going back to my apartment. Alone (this was before my boyfriend was able to move in, since he’s moved in, I’ve only hung out with him his friends and his band mates girlfriends, never really making any real meaningful connections of my own).
So I sit here wondering if I should hit up a coworker to spend time with me but I’m so. Goddamn. Anxious.
I wish I just had a group of people that liked me, that I could laugh with and that I could make laugh. That I could call up and they’d actually be happy to spend time with me. I’m not charismatic or relatable or like-able really. I’m kind of boring and don’t have any real hobbies I’m dedicated to and while I have many interests they aren’t prominent enough that I could have a full length conversation with someone who is also interested in those things. I feel like I just don’t have enough time to explore things as deeply as I would like to. I’ve accepted I am an acquired taste, maybe only built for desperate people that latch on and suck out all the life out of me 💀
Or even worse maybe I just suck the life out of everyone else.
I would like to be different person completely, someone people automatically took a liking to. I don’t have the slightest clue of who I am to begin with, and idk what I’m doing wrong.
I have a coworker that really wants me to join roller derby (she wants everyone to join roller derby really) but she says it would be really good for me. My bf thinks it might be a good opportunity for me to meet people but I’m nervous for two reasons.
1) I’m not a super aggressive (or athletic) person. I really don’t believe roller derby is the route for me but everyone else insists that’s it’s basically my destiny (which is extremely annoying to me, personally, like I THINK, even though I have constant identity crises, I would know myself better than they do, but they don’t listen to me).
2) Every single group of people I’ve ever met have always met me with rejection. It’s like they can sense something about me that isn’t normal.
Me: 👽 “hello”
Them: 😀…🤔🤨 proceed to never speak to me, ever
I’m an adult now in the real world but it still feels like high school. I’m still a weirdo and I’m still a loser. The theater kids didn’t even fw me.
TLDR; idk how to make friends I feel like no one likes me and I only like to hang out with my bf but I know I need to make friends. What should I do?

2024.05.19 08:02 Sufficient-Status117 What is the appropriate belief or alternative way of responding for someone with OCD about a fear of "not knowing themselves perfectly" ?

I'm confused what the healthy alternative would be (insteead of reassurance seeking by posting and asking opinions about how people see me/what I'm really like or compulsively researching/ ruminating/introspecting)
At it's core I think my obsession/ fear is basically about the possibility of not knowing myself (I'm afraid I'm actually morally bad/deluding myself/fooling everyone and if I don't figure out my flaws and see myself accurately it could be humiliating to be viewed as deluded and full of myself and also unsafe, like others can hurt me badly by pointing out character flaws I didn't know I had, and I'm actually a much different/ worse person than I thought)
But I feel like this is kind of a reasonable fear? It's actually very likely I don't know myself and others will end up pointing out flaws and other things about myself I don't know. That's how life works? So it's not like most OCD where you accept uncertainty but the likelihood of your fear happening is super low.
anyway, the point is NOT to get reassurance but I'm genuinely confused what I'm supposed to be feeling or thinking when avoiding the compulsions (I get that part) but like with other people's it's so obvious to me that it's their OCD because their obsessions are more extreme and their fears less realistic but I my obsessions are super vague and plausible, like "what if i'm the cause of most or all my own suffering?" and "to what extent am I to blame for each painful thing?" and "what if i'm overreacting/what if I'm secretly wanting to play the victim/get sympathy/sabatoge myself because i have a personality disorder?" and "what if I'm manipulative and attention seeking? making it all up? coddled?" but these could be partly or wholly true? but the problem is I let them consume me and spend too much time analyzing what kind of person I am and also let the possibilities devastate me.
I'm just confused about the correct way to think about reality?

Disclaimer: I don't know for sure if I even have OCD yet, I am not diagnosed, but my therapist suggested it recently after I disclosed what i was experiencing more openingly and honestly a lot of it fits, but a lot of it doesn't...
OK so anyway, assuming I do have OCD tendencies, I'm confused what the healthy alternative would be (insteead of reassurance seeking by posting and asking opinions about how people see me/what I'm really like or compulsively researching/ ruminating/introspecting)

2024.05.19 07:59 Aros001 [Low effort Sunday] "Only negative personality traits count as actual personality traits."

Obviously a little bit of an exaggeration but something I feel like I've noticed more and more over time is how dismissive some people are of characters who are good and nice, labelling them as having no personality.
You have a character who is generally a very nice person, who tries to help others and is often very caring, those traits aren't seen as actual personality traits, they're just empty generic statements that make the character just as empty and generic, regardless of the execution in-story or anything else about their character. Being a very nice person means the same thing as the character having no personality.
A character being frequently angry, vain, a snarky asshole, a glutton, even just loud, those are considered actual personality traits for a character despite being just as easily generic as being nice can be, seemingly simply because they have more edge to them.
Even when the nice character has other traits to their personality, unless those traits are negative they are ignored completely and overshadowed, making the character just NiceTM and nothing else.
Belle from Beauty and The Beast is a bookworm and strong in her opinions and convictions...but no, she's just a nice person and a that's it, just like all Disney princess characters prior to Elsa apparently.
Midoriya from MHA is a massive superhero fanboy and quick to throw hands to defend others even when he won't do the same for himself...so he's just a generic goodboy and nothing else. His only potential personality is how he was a crybaby early on in the series.
You could write a friggin' book on Aang's character and the many sides Avatar the Last Airbender shows of him...too bad he's just a goofy kid who is nice and kind to nearly everyone he meets and believes in peaceful solutions, so there is absolutely nothing else to his personality whatsoever. And yes, that was sarcasm.
Don't get me wrong, I get that edgier and more flawed personality traits typically tend to be more interesting but that's generally because they are easier to make interesting. It still ultimately comes down to the execution in story. That's what really bugs me here. The execution of the nice character's actual character feels like it's just completely ignored and dismissed simply because some people view being nice and kind as completely empty traits. Because they are such a good and nice person, because their personality is made up of many positive aspects, that's seen as the same as having no personality at all.
Which is bull, since even a negative character traits like being a snarky asshole is not a character flaw if the story doesn't treat it as one. It can be just as generic and empty a personality trait as a character being nice, just fitting a different kind of baseline likability or wish fulfillment/power fantasy.

2024.05.19 07:58 Independent-Ice-5243 I 25M and a bit confused about my feelings with my best friend 25M and my other Roommate 25M

I’ll use fake name to complicate things less. So a brief backstory, my friend Oscar and I briefly met in high school, didn’t really hang out all that much. Then I left for the Military right out of high school and didn’t think of him much. But on Leave we ran into each other ther and ended up kissing and talking to each other as if we really liked each other. Then when I finished my contract I moved back to my hometown and we became best friends. I didn’t really think of him that way anymore and he didn’t either. I ended up having a crush on a completely different friend named Ronaldo but it wasn’t reciprocated. After about a year Oscar got a new house and wanted two friends to move in with him, and it ended up being me and Ronaldo.
I spent over a year going in and out of a crush on Ronaldo because he seemed to always know what exactly to say to keep me strung along. So while this was going on I had no romantic thoughts about Oscar at all. Last year Oscar started dating this guy Alex. Neither Ronaldo or I could stand the guy, he always makes every conversation about himself and he just brags non stop in such a douchey way. For the most part he’s a good guy, just really annoying.
So in recent events there’s been some changes. We all went to a friends wedding a few weeks ago and after everything Ronaldo and I had an actual conversation about my feelings, because he was doing this thing where he kept flirting all night with me and if the feeling wasn’t returned I didn’t want that dynamic anymore, during this he said he wasn’t romantically interested, and I decided from there to completely move on.
So a few days later me and Oscar were talking about an inside joke we used to have but couldn’t remember so we went deep into old messages and found the ones from when we liked eachother. We laughed about it. Then that night Oscar goes “Jake can I ask you something?” And I said “sure” and he said “Can we kiss again?” And I said that it was okay as long as he was comfortable with it. We ended up cuddling and having sex that night.
I promised i wouldn’t tell anyone we know (aka why I’m here on Reddit) and Oscar told me it wasn’t going to be a regular thing. And I said it was fine as long as he's okay with it. After I went back into the living room, I heard from Ronaldos room that he was awake, but have no idea if he knew what just happened. The next day Oscar kissed me again and again said it wasnt going to be a regular thing.
After it happened whenever Alex came over I noticed that he was nicer to me than he was to Alex. Like in the morning when he made coffee and breakfast he asked if I wanted a cup and plate and didnt ask Alex at all. Three days later Oscar and I were home alone, and he started it again. We cuddled and kissed a bit then he started venting to me about Alex, saying that he really isn't sure if he even loves him anymore, that he found out Alex was talking to someone else, and that he doesnt even like Alex touching him anymore. I asked him if this was some kind of payback thing and he said no. He kept asking if I was okay with all this because he doesnt want to hurt me and I said as long as he's okay with it all. Then we had sex again. Then Ronaldo came home from work, but had to leave again because he had to visit his mom, then the second he left Oscar and I went at it again. Then Ronaldo came back then left for dinner, and Oscer and I had sex for the third time that day. Then Oscar took me to dinner, and after we got home, sex for the 4th time that day.
This was about 3 days ago, 2 days ago Alex came over because they had a trip to Vegas planned, and right now theyre at EDC. Right now the house is just me and Ronaldo. Last night Ronaldo came up to me crying his eyes out saying "Theres this guy who used to like me, and I always turned him down, but I think he's moved on but now he's been doing stuff with someone better than me, and its so unfair." and I have no idea what the hell he means.
Now I'm all confused because for some reason I now feel like I'm jealous of Alex, I have no idea what's going on in either Oscar OR Ronaldos head, and I'm not really sure I know what I even feel.

2024.05.19 07:58 TheRavenFliesatDawn New to the breed

New to the breed
So until today I only knew that my cat was part Maine Coon. He has the extra layers of coat, the ginger hair is a different texture to the white, he has a large primordial pouch, he’s back heavy, and until today, I thought his vocalizations were also from the Maine Coon. He’s 9 years old and at night he likes to run around the house like a mad cat, making all kinds of weird noises. He’s a riot.
But today, I took a photo of my cat, and by accident swiped up on the image to show the metadata and the AI recognized that it was a cat, so just for fun I tapped it. And the first option for cat breed was the Turkish Van. So I devoured a few websites and the Wiki, and I’m pretty sure my cat is part Turkish Van. I’ll let you all be the judges, if you wouldn’t mind? 😁🩵🐈
I added some photos of him, the one where he is sleeping on me in the chair, I had just returned from Mayo Clinic a few days prior, for some pretty intense cancer surgery. He barely left my side for several weeks. My little healing angel.

2024.05.19 07:58 Sufficient-Status117 What is the appropriate belief or alternative way of responding for someone with OCD about a fear of "not knowing themselves perfectly" ?

Basically, I'm confused what the healthy alternative would be (insteead of reassurance seeking by posting and asking opinions about how people see me/what I'm really like or compulsively researching/ ruminating/introspecting)
My fear is quite possible and even plausible?!
Disclaimer: I don't know for sure if I even have OCD yet, I am not diagnosed, but my therapist suggested it and honestly a lot of it fits...

2024.05.19 07:56 AquaticArroww How to pick an android (Created by the same guy who created laptop compnents guide if u know who i am.)

Display: Generally known as the screen of the phone has 3-4 ypes of screens (depending if samsung or not.)
IPS LCD: This is particularly the most common type of screen for older phones. The most common non oled/amoled type of screen that can do well.
Oled: The most common screen display type today and is Pretty powerful, Can watch some videos well enough. These types of phones are somewhat midrange.
Amoled: These are some kind of screen displays used in "Flagship phones" which has the best type of screen displays by today. But is expensive.
Super AMOLED (Samsung exclusive/common) Is a term used by samsung which has better touch features than a regular phone.
It is clear to notice that phones with Dolby Vision makes the display much more immersive and clear.
Processor: This area is usually marked by Qualcomm (Snapdragon). Or Mediatek (Dimensity), (Helio).
Snapdragon has 8 or 7 series which are the newest and latest from qualcomm. While mediatek dimensity and helio will also be listed.. Listed below are the best 8 series for high performance. (Source provided by Techcenturion)
Snapdragon 888 Dimensity 1200
Snapdragon 870 Dimensity 1100
Snapdragon 865+ Dimensity 1000+
Snapdragon 865 Dimensity 1000L
Snapdragon 855 Dimensity 1000C
Snapdragon 845 Dimensity 820C (Both are the lowest.)
It is clear to note that snapdragon usually has better processors than dimensity, although dimensity has more of them in quantity.
On the otherhand the best performance 7 series are as followed. although none of the helio series has ever reached it.
Snapdragon 780G
Snapdragon 768G
Snapdragon 765G
Snapdarogn 765
Snapdragon 750G
Snapdragon 732G.
That is the end of the processor list. helio and snapdragon 6 series can be used for medium power requirement processors.
Camera Quality. Usually phones have about 2-3 cameras. but there is also 4 of them. Although it is regarded that more cameras sacrifices camera quality for quantity.
There may be features on phones. like manual shutter speed to control the speed of shooting a photo on an area, dualtone led flash for a more desirable color balance for a more livelike photo. And also Dolby vision recording for creating HDR recorded videos to make them more immersive and high quality. The phones that currently dominate this playing field are the google Pixel's and Xiaomi phone series. Samsung s24 and apple iphone pro 15 and 15 pro max also dominates as a king of the field.
Charging speed and battery life: These are expressed Via Mah and W(atts).
Most phones have a Mah battery cap of 4;300 to 4;700+. although flagships may have 4;800-5000 at max. Obviously the higher amount means a longer battery life. Some phones like the oneplus 11 and oneplus 12r may have a day or two battery life even with heavy usage. This may eb different depending on how you take care of the battery.
Most phones have a 15-30watt charging speed at best. although over that are fast charging. Phones like the redmi 13 series. oneplus 12, and the iqoo 12 are dominating the field of fast charging. with 80w-120w charging speed. What may be added are the fact that processors may take a heavy importance on these charging speeds.
Build quality and screen type: these are the general durability and endurance of said phone. Personally the best looking build quality phones are the redmi 13 pro plus, The oneplus 12, and the oppo x6 pro. There are usually metal or plastic displays. If you are paranoid about breaking it. here is the guide of phonecases.
Silicone: These are the most flexible and somewhat scratch resistant case. they arent generally strong but they are powerful enough to survive a fall.
TPU: This is more harder and scratch resistant compared to a silicone phonecase. you may pick this if you want a stronger phonecase that can still be flexible. although it isnt resistant to heat.
Leather: These are generally heat resistant and powerful, although it isnt strong against liquid and isnt that great against falls. and they are rare.
Transparent: for those who just wants to see the back of their phone. it isnt that great. just for aesthetics.
Gorilla glass victus and corning gorilla glass victus: Thes are the types of phone durability that gorilla glass made that stop using numbered screen names.
That is it for the phones. If you needed help or if theres a topic that i didnt cover please reply. although i may not be able to because of my account being made recently.

2024.05.19 07:55 Rock_Baby_89 My (35f) boyfriend’s (49m) daughter (19f) doesn’t like me and I feel like I’m being gaslit

Background: So my boyfriend, “S” has been a widower since his wife passed 14 years ago, they were together 3 years. She had a daughter from a prior relationship, “L”, that my boyfriend adopted as soon as he could when she turned 18 (a very long wait for both of them). He wasn’t able to keep custody of L when her mom passed because her biological dad obviously got her, they don’t have a good relationship and from what I’ve heard he’s a piece of shit. I’ve been seeing S for over a year now and he just moved in to my hjjouse, we were friends several years before this. S and L love each other very much obviously, but S said he couldn’t live with L anymore, so when he moved in with me, we got her the apartment (mostly issues with her being messy and not being responsible for herself). They lived together from when she turned 18, to a few months after her 19th birthday.
Long story short, L doesn’t like me. Enough that S’s mom texted me this week to apologize for L’s behavior at a dinner we all went to. I feel like I’ve been trying to convey this to S for a very long time. My biggest issue with L is that she insists on having couple photos of S and her mom all over the place, namely in her apartment that I pay half for. When S told her to take them down, she started using a couple photo of them as her screensaver on her phone. Every time I bring it up he says I’m being too sensitive and what is he supposed to do about her apartment and her phone. I get it but Jesus, it makes me so uncomfortable like he’s still in another relationship. She does have photos of just her mom, but mainly displays photos of S and her mom together (wedding photos, pictures of them embracing, etc.)
She also makes comments here and there that are snide, and rarely makes eye contact with me or talks to me when we’re all together. When I text her I usually don’t hear back. S keeps telling me that L is socially awkward and it’s nothing to do with me, it’s getting hard to believe. I get so confused because I feel like a lot of times he agrees with me and gets pissed, but then he talks to her and says I’ve got it all wrong and gives me things I can try to do to make her and my relationship better. I do them, it doesn’t work, rinse and repeat.
Anyway, after S’s mom texted me that she was sorry for L’s behavior, she texted L and let her have it. My boyfriend was also mad all week up until he could talk to her, but as soon as he did she got upset and when he came home I feel like he totally changed his tune. He was saying how she doesn’t mean it and she actually really likes me, etc. I got mad because I’ve heard this all before, and I feel like all the pressure is on me to get us to have a good relationship. I’ve tried to include her in things, gave her the code to the house, buy her nice thoughtful gifts for special occasions, tried texting for a long time, obviously help pay her rent so she doesn’t have to worry about that while she’s in school, but somehow the story is always that I’m not doing the right things, or at least that’s how it feels when I’m given things I could try or do differently.
He got madder while we were taking because I was pushing back and I walked away. He eventually started yelling at me up the stairs where my own daughter might hear him so that pissed me off and it escalated. Now I’m sleeping upstairs on the couch in my own house while he’s in the bed, feeling like a fucking loser. He ended up telling me I don’t love her and so I ended the conversation and came upstairs. I’m seething, am I in the wrong here? What should I do? I’ve already had therapy about this, and L is in therapy as well. I feel like she’s holding on to her mom and resents me because she finally got to be with S again and then he moved out, but these behaviors have been started way before we were discussing living together . I asked S after the dinner to have a family therapy session but tonight L told him she would have to think about it.
What am I missing? What should I do differently? Am I an insensitive yet too sensitive asshole? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills and don’t have many people to bounce things like this off of, so any comments would help.
TLDR; I feel like boyfriend’s young adult daughter dislikes me because he’s moved on after being a single widower for 13 years and she didn’t get to live with him a long time. I’m at a loss of what to do but feel like I’m being made to feel responsible for her and I’s relationship, and am tired of feeling disrespected.

2024.05.19 07:53 Nirdee Early Review of MoP ReMix, the Good and the Bad

Hi all. I binged the first couple days and have a hunter in the high 60s. Overall, I think it was pretty good, but feels very much like an alpha with a big problem in the heart of the concept. The following feedback is intended with that perspective--good, but could use a lot of iteration and feels a bit dishonest.
Good:
Bad:
Overall, fun, but the "fast leveling event" that is slower than retail leaves a really bad feeling. I am going to be salty to when in months two and three Blizzard "listens to our feedback" and makes the XP buffs work as advertised to try and milk some more subs in the downtime before TWW. It feels like the kind of time-sink design people complain about from BFA and Shadowlands, but with some propaganda--"you aren't playing through old content extra slow, it's fast! Just look at that number in the corner. It's 126% faster. It says it right there in the corner." I thought I was going to be more positive when I started writing this, but the alt army I have is going to be set aside I think. Maybe I'll try some Season 4.

2024.05.19 07:53 pinkmilk999 alchemy speculation and references

i’ve seen a lot of people come up with some really wild speculations like vessel is a secret chemist and such but here’s my take he’s just a nerd for things such as mythology, alchemy, philosophy, religions which all kind of ties in together. like for example the symbol used for bloodsport is very similar to the alchemic symbol for vinegar. now normally i would think that’s a reach, however considered throughout the discography there’s many religious references and the man is a whore for details, there’s not really any coincidences i’ve realized. in catholicism wine = blood of christ.
“When we eat and drink the bread and the wine of the Supper with expectant faith, we thereby have communion with the body and blood of our Lord and receive the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.”
in the lyrics of bloodsport he says “I want to be forgiven I want to choke up chunks of my own sins Even if the sky cracks in mourning And the heavens just won't open up for me Would you invite me in again? Let me pay for my arrogance?”
this goes back to the alchemic symbol for vinegar. wine turns into vinegar. there’s actually a blog titled “An Alchemists Tale: Turning Wine Into Vinegar” which if you think about the concept of wine turning to vinegar, that’s kind of the whole premise of the song.
in many songs he says things that are a reference to the emerald tablet
“Beneath the stormy seas Above the mountain peaks It's all the same to me It makes no difference I've seen my days unfold Done the impossible I'll turn my walls to gold to bring you home again”
Medieval and early modern alchemists associated the Emerald Tablet with the creation of the philosophers' stone and the artificial production of gold. It has also been popular with nineteenth- and twentieth-century occultists and esotericists, among whom the expression "as above, so below "of the second verse of the Tablet has become an often cited motto.
Aqua regia is also referenced in the emerald tablet. then moving on to mythology. the whole concept of the deity Sleep seems to be a play on a combination of Morpheus and Hypnos.
Morpheus, son of Hypnos, the personification of Sleep, was the god of Dreams.
The god Morpheus’ skill at transforming himself into such a life-like apparition managed to deceive even the most discerning person. The Greek gods often chose him as their messenger to appear in the dreams of mortals. Dreams could liberate the desires, hopes, and imaginations of the sleeper. However, such dreams could also portray false realities, and so betray the receiver into untoward action.
anyways those are just some of the things i’ve noticed that i haven’t seen people talk about much i could be reaching but he’s a very intentional person and it just made sense to me

🔗Dorman Emergency Door Unlock Tool with Vinyl Grip

https://preview.redd.it/ssvyme07ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99f8476a67c556974c558632ea0d2efc7a69de0a
Well, my experience with this Dorman Emergency Door Unlock Tool has been quite an adventure, let me tell you. I mean, I've always been a bit of a worrier, especially when it comes to my car door. I've had my fair share of lockouts, and it's never a good time. But this little tool, it's changed everything!
First off, I love how versatile it is. I can reshape it to fit the thickness of my door and the location of the lock. It's like it's tailor-made just for me, and my car! Plus, it comes with a nice vinyl hand grip. It makes it so much easier to use. It's like holding onto a friendly, familiar face in a moment of pure panic.
Another great thing about this tool is that it's portable. It folds up so neatly, like a little origami masterpiece. It fits perfectly in my pocket, purse, or any other compartment I can find. It's like having a magic trick up my sleeve, always ready to save the day.
But, let's be real, no product is perfect. I have to admit, this tool can sometimes be a bit of a troublemaker. It's not always as smooth as I'd like it to be. There have been a few times when it's stuck in the narrow space between the door and the weather stripping. It's kind of like trying to force a square peg into a round hole, you know? It can be a bit frustrating.
However, on the bright side, I've found that by taking a little extra time and being patient, I can usually get it to work. And when it does, it's such a relief! It's like a personal victory, and it makes me feel so smart and resourceful.
So, would I recommend this product? Absolutely! It's not perfect, but it's worked wonders for me. It's like having a little insurance policy tucked away in my pocket, always there to help me out when I need it most. I'm just glad I stumbled upon it.

🔗Lock Technology 4-Piece Easy Access Folding Door Opening Kit

https://preview.redd.it/scl6xh67ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f050ad141adf382263d7dcfea99d013d88623cc9
I recently discovered the Lock Technology 145 Easy Access Folding Door Opening Kit, and it has become an indispensable tool for unlocking my car doors. This compact device is a true lifesaver when I've locked my keys inside or when I need to access the trunk in a hurry.
The highlights that caught my attention are the screws that don't require a coupler, which have made it incredibly easy to use. Plus, the collapsible design allows for easy storage in my glove compartment. Another great feature is the presence of a middle extension piece that covers the entire car and can be used for long reach applications. The shorter tip is perfect for accessing lock buttons, while the glowing tips on models 135-2B and 135-2C are an excellent innovation for nighttime use.
One downside I experienced was the need for more precise angle adjustments when trying to unlock my car doors. While the rigid design facilitated easier access through the window, it could be trickier for those with less experience or unsteady hands. Other than that minor inconvenience, this door opening kit has been a game changer for me.
So, if you're someone who often finds themselves in need of a last-minute or after-hours unlock solution, I highly recommend giving the Lock Technology 145 Easy Access Folding Door Opening Kit a try. You won't be disappointed!

Imagine locking your keys in your car. It's a frustrating and stressful situation, but with the Universal Lockout Tool, you can save yourself some time and money. This ingenious tool works with most American cars, as well as some international brands such as Audi, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
The best part? It's made of sturdy metal, giving you the confidence to use it without worrying about damaging your vehicle. It measures about 5/8" x 22", making it compact enough to carry around in your glove compartment or tool kit.
While some users have had issues with its thinness and flexibility, many professionals find it a decent entry-level tool for those occasional lockouts. Plus, at its affordable price, it's definitely worth considering as an insurance policy against those unexpected key-locking mishaps.
But remember, practice makes perfect. Always read the directions included on the back of the package and familiarize yourself with the tool before attempting to use it on your car. With some patience and a bit of finesse, you'll be able to unlock your vehicle in no time!

🔗Geevorks Power Door Lock Actuator 12V

https://preview.redd.it/muh2e2z7ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d19305a1e6ea49f50436e7ed756977e30c865fab
As a car enthusiast, I was excited to try out the Geevorks 12V door lock actuator. This kit made upgrading my old manual door locks to automatic ones a breeze! The installation was relatively easy, and the product included everything from door lock actuators to remote controls. The remote controls allowed me to lock and unlock my car from a distance, giving me peace of mind when I step away from my vehicle.
One of the main highlights for me was the trunk release button, adding an extra layer of convenience when I need to access my trunk. Additionally, the door lock actuator can be used in remote control and alarm systems, making it a versatile product for various car security needs.
On the downside, the remote control distance could be improved. In some cases, I experienced a weaker signal which made locking or unlocking the car from a distance less reliable. Despite this minor inconvenience, overall, the Geevorks door lock actuator has made my driving experience more secure and convenient.

🔗Car Door Unlock Tool with Vinyl Grip

Dorman's Emergency Door Unlock Tool is a handy little gadget that can save your day if you accidentally lock your keys inside your car. Imagine the relief of unlocking your car door within seconds using the slim design of this tool, which can be easily folded to fit in your pocket, purse or other compartments. The vinyl hand grip makes it comfortable and easy to use even in tight spaces.
However, there are some downsides to consider. Some users found it difficult to get the tool past the window seal and mentioned it folds up easily during use. It may not work effectively for all types of car doors due to their varying thickness and lock locations.
Overall, this tool can be quite useful for those who occasionally find themselves locked out of their vehicle. But be aware that it might require some practice or patience to get it right depending on your particular car model. So, if you're looking for a quick solution to this common mishap, Dorman's Emergency Door Unlock Tool could be worth a shot.

I recently had an unfortunate experience where I locked myself out of my car. Panicking, I remembered the Universal 10-Piece Vehicle Unlock Tool Kit I'd heard about. Its assorted tools and convenient pouch seemed perfect for this situation. Upon pulling it out of the bag, I was immediately disappointed by the poor instructions. The metal tools felt flimsier than anticipated, bending on the first attempt. However, the variety of tools allowed me to eventually unlock my car door, although not without a fight. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend, but it did save me from an expensive professional service.
The tool kit is compact and easy to carry, making it a handy emergency tool for drivers. The metal tools are versatile, catering to different vehicle models. The convenient pouch is spacious enough to hold all the tools. However, the build quality of the tools is disappointing, as they seem to bend easily under pressure. Overall, it's a useful tool kit for occasional use, but don't expect it to last a lifetime.

I recently used the Lock Technology Easy Access Door Unlocking Tool Kit 135 in a tricky situation where I locked myself out of my car. To my relief, this 2-piece tool easily collapsed for convenient storage and extended to reach the car's windows. The whale tail tip design worked like a charm on the lock surfaces, making it a breeze to unlock my car door. Plus, the included plastic slip jim and door wedges provided extra support.
However, despite the overall positive experience, I did face a minor issue with this kit. The lack of a highlight feature in the product description made it somewhat challenging to understand the exact specifications of each component. Additionally, the green color of the tool might not appeal to everyone's taste.
In conclusion, the Lock Technology Easy Access Door Unlocking Tool Kit 135 proved to be a reliable and effective solution for my car lockout predicament. Its collapsible design, whale tail tip, and additional accessories make it a worthwhile investment for those looking to keep a handy tool in their vehicle for emergencies.

As a reviewer who has experienced the joy of retrieving keys from locked cars, I can attest to the life-saving capabilities of the Steck Big Easy Glow with Wedge Lockout Tool Kit. This kit has everything you need to rescue someone from their own forgetfulness or mischief at any hour of the day or night. The glow-in-the-dark yellow hue is not only cool but also incredibly functional, allowing you to see the tool even through tinted windows.
One aspect that really stood out for me was the easy wedge feature. It offers controlled opening of the car door for insertion of the Big Easy Glo, making it incredibly easy to access the inside of the vehicle without causing any damage. Additionally, its non-marring wedge prevents scratches or damages to your car, ensuring your beloved vehicle stays pristine even after a minor lockout incident.
However, despite its many positives, there are a few cons worth noting. The included air wedge seems to be somewhat delicate and may not last as long as other parts of the kit. Also, while the kit is effective on 98% of all cars and trucks, there might be some models or makes that are not compatible with this tool.
In conclusion, if you're someone who often encounters people locked out of their cars, then the Steck Big Easy Glow with Wedge Lockout Tool Kit is definitely worth considering. It's easy to use, effective, and offers an array of useful features that cater to different types of car locks. While it may have some minor drawbacks, overall, it's a reliable tool that can save both time and money when used appropriately.

I have been using the Steck Lockout Tool Kit Big Easy for over a year now, and let me tell you, it's been an absolute game-changer. This tool has saved me countless times when I've locked my keys inside the car, much to the amusement of my friends.
One of the first things that stood out was the high visibility pink powder coating on its 55-inch long handle. In the middle of the night or during a snowstorm, finding this pink tool is a breeze compared to the black ones I used before. Plus, the improved non-marring wedge is now wider, longer, and smoother, making it even easier to use in various car models.
While the Big Easy is primarily designed for unlocking car doors, it also features a lock knob lifter, which comes in handy for cars with flat lock knobs at the top of the door. No more trying to improvise with a wire hanger or credit card - the Big Easy does it all.
However, there are a couple of minor drawbacks. Some users might find the storage size of the tool inconvenient, and it would be great if the package included a pump-up air bag for extra versatility.
Overall, the Steck Lockout Tool Kit Big Easy has been a reliable and convenient addition to my toolbox. With its 55-inch long handle and high visibility pink coating, I can quickly and easily unlock any car door without causing damage. If you're someone who frequently misplaces their keys or finds themselves locked out of their vehicle, I highly recommend giving this tool a try.

I recently installed the Biltek Power Car Door Lock and Unlock Kit in my Chevy Colorado, and I must say, it has been a game-changer. Before, I had to manually lock and unlock each door, but now, everything is just a button press away. The package included everything I needed to get started, from the simple diagram to the main module and actuators. Plus, it's compatible with my alarm system, so I can control everything right from my alarm remote.
The standout feature for me is the keyless entry. It's so convenient to hop in the car and just unlock the doors with a push of a button. The only downside I noticed was that the installation process took some time and effort, but once it was done, everything worked seamlessly.
Overall, I highly recommend the Biltek Power Car Door Lock and Unlock Kit to anyone looking to upgrade their vehicle to a central locking system with keyless entry. It's easy to use, reliable, and a great investment for any car owner.

I recently upgraded my car with the Biltek CX-402 Universal Central Door Lock and Unlock Conversion Kit, and I must say it's made a world of difference in terms of convenience. The kit is easy to install, requiring no additional hardware and coming with a clear diagram that guides you through the process.
One of the standout features is its universal compatibility, fitting all known cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans. This has been particularly useful for me, as I often drive different vehicles. The Central locking system provides a state-of-the-art solution, converting manual door locks into a fully functional keyless entry system.
However, there's a downside to this product - the poor-quality wires. The wires were the only problem I encountered during installation, which was quite frustrating. Despite this, the Biltek CX-402 is an overall solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their vehicle's locking system.

I recently got my hands on this LTI LT-126 Easy Access Tool and boy, has it been a game-changer for me! After suffering countless failed attempts to unlock doors in tight spaces or with tricky locks, this little tool has made things so much easier. The whale tail tip design is pure genius, allowing it to grip the lock more securely and catch it without much effort. Plus, the fact that you can use it with or without the vinyl tips depending on your preference just adds to its versatility.
What I particularly appreciated was how the tool came packaged in a simple yet sturdy custom kraft cardboard box. Not only did it make the whole experience feel more special, but also added an environmental touch which is always a welcome sight.
However, one thing that could have been even better was if the tool had come with some detailed instructions on how best to handle it, especially for first-time users. Nonetheless, once you figure out the right technique, this LTI LT-126 Easy Access Door Tool truly lives up to its name!

The slim jim bars are backed up by other useful tools like the wire form S hook slide lock tool and the wonder tool. Together, they make sure you're never locked out for long.
On the flip side, I did find the metal parts to be slightly flimsier than I'd hoped. It's not a deal-breaker but it does make me wary of using this kit too frequently. However, for occasional usage or as a backup tool, the Grip 8pc Lockout Tool Kit definitely earns its keep.
In conclusion, this tool kit has proven to be an essential part of my travel gear. It's well-made, easy to use, and offers a range of tools for different types of car doors. Principles of a Tip Line Platform: A research-based way to evaluate whistleblower systems
Article Cover Showing List of Principles and Names of Researchers
Thanks to the good work of academic researchers across the globe, we have a data-driven way to evaluate the quality of whistleblower software. The papers we’ve looked to for this article include:
The authors lists the characteristics of a whistleblower submission system. They include:
  1. Usability of the Software
  2. Authenticity of the Receiver
  3. Plausible Deniability of the Whistleblower
  4. Availability of the System
  5. Anonymity of the Whistleblower
  6. Confidentiality and Integrity of the Disclosures

1. Usability of the Software

Managed Service
Usability is the linchpin of any good software system. No matter what your value proposition is — the most private, secure, or whatever — if your targeted audience cannot use the software, no amount of engineering genius will make a difference. As researcher Joakim Uddholm puts it:
“The system must be usable for both whistleblowers and journalists. Whistleblowers must be able to use the system without the protection features getting too much in the way, and journalists must be able to use the system without it interfering too much with their work routines.”
A key differentiator for Hush Line is that we’re a managed service, meaning you don’t have to host core infrastructure, operate dedicated networks, or hire specialists to start using the service. All a user needs to do to have an anonymous tip line is register an account.
UI for Hush Line Registration page
By providing a centralized service, we significantly reduce the risk of user error, making the service more consistent, predictable, and trustworthy.

Email Delivery

Hush Line can deliver messages directly to your email inbox. Users may enter their preferred SMTP information from Gmail or Riseup, for example, and any message submitted to their tip line will be delivered to their email account. Enabling users to set it and forget it makes using Hush Line effortless and integrates into the systems they’re already using.
SMTP Hush Line Settings

Clearnet and Tor Addresses

Hush Line is also available on both Clearnet and Tor Onion addresses. This approach is critical for users where Tor might be blocked or having anonymizing software on their device could be incriminating, like in the case of Ola Bini in Ecuador.
Screenshot of Ola Bini’s tweet about his conviction.
Since Hush Line can be accessed over a Clearnet address with the default browser already on your phone, your fingerprint will be the same as everyone else who just bought a new phone.

Making PGP Easy

Before, using PGP meant adopting cumbersome workflows that even stumped journalists at the heart of the Snowden disclosures. Journalist Glenn Greenwald didn’t have PGP set up, and didn’t have the time to learn how to do it, resulting in Snowden not being able to securely contact him. Even Snowden forgot to send his PGP key to journalists when initially contacting them.
Inbox view with Mailvelope browser extension.
Hush Line attempts to solve this problem through our integration of Mailvelope, a powerful open-source browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that enables users to create keys, decrypt and encrypt message directly in their browser, and export their public PGP key. For tip line owners, once adding their PGP key to Hush Line, all messages are end-to-end encrypted by default and when a tip comes in, they can read it within the Hush Line app. For whistleblowers, this means they don’t need to do anything to send a secure, anonymous message.

2. Authenticity of the Receiver

Verification System

Hush Line has a verification system for journalists, organizations, activists, or other public figures. Verified accounts receive a special badge on their message submission page so that people submitting messages know they’re contacting the right person. To be verified, users must submit proper information to prove their identity or approval to represent a company.
Submit Message page with a “Verified Account” badge.

Opt-In User Directory

Users may opt-in to a public directory where others can find their address. The default tab is prioritized to make it easy to find verified users. The directory is searchable, and a whistleblower can have confidence of the validity of an address.
Hush Line User Directory page

Account Reporting

The verification system and user directories are two ways to help ensure the authenticity of the receiver, but to help ensure the platform’s health, we enable users who have logged in to report spam or abuse accounts. We will address reported accounts immediately to determine the best next steps, whether deleting the account, sending a warning message, or other appropriate methods.

3. Plausible Deniability of the Whistleblower

No Downloads

Hush Line is accessible over a Clearnet address, so a user doesn’t have to download any new software to send an anonymous message. If someone wants to use a Tor-only tip line service on their mobile device, they must sign in to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. To download Tor Browser, you need to provide a valid email address or phone number and possibly payment information, all considered personally identifiable information. Now that you’ve downloaded new software on your phone, your “fingerprint” has become unique to who you are. If you only have Robinhood, Tor Browser, Mastodon, Chrome, and Slack on your phone, the likelihood of someone else having only those same apps becomes less likely. If you have even 50 apps, your fingerprint will be more associated with you, possibly entirely unique. The more unique your fingerprint is, the less realistic a plausible deniability claim is.

One-Way Messaging

Most people fail to report information because they fear retaliation and the significant risks of whistleblowing. Hush Line is a one-way messenger explicitly designed to protect the individual submitting the message. If the person submitting a message feels comfortable enough to leave a contact method, they may or can submit a message without any further involvement.

Account-Free for Whistleblowers

Someone submitting a message does not need to create an account to use the app. This crucial feature allows a whistleblower to reduce the trail of information they leave behind. No credentials can be found if you have no username or password to save. And since Hush Line requires no special software, a message can be submitted from any phone or computer, from a pubic library or internet cafe, for example.
Success message after sending a message without an account.

4. Availability of the System

Centralized Services

By providing a centralized service, Hush Line is more reliably available by only requiring a single system to be maintained and secured. Centralizing our services protects users by removing the responsibility of managing specialized infrastructure and following complex workflows, which, if done incorrectly, could have real-world implications.
Decentralized systems help with censorship resistance (and Hush Line can also be self-hosted), but when there are tens, hundreds, or thousands of separate instances all disconnected from each other, there is no way to ensure the quality of those systems. What other software is on the server? Is it updated? Are any ports open? Who currently has or has had access? What hardware are they using? It’s impossible and foolhardy to assume that everyone will follow best practices consistently.
An analogous example of the inherent risks of decentralization is from the Mastodon network — a decentralized version of Twitter where anyone can run an instance. The database for Kolektiva.social, a service tailored to anarchist users, was compromised. In 2023, the home of its admin was raided for an unrelated event, and the FBI seized an unencrypted database backup.
Snippet from the Kolektiva admin account’s post after the raid.

5. Anonymity of the Whistleblower

Leaking IP Addresses

To make Hush Line accessible to as many people as possible, the app is available on a publicly accessible URL, which is what you might expect from any web service. However, when using a Clearnet URL, leaking a user’s IP address is a real possibility.
To help defend against this, we scrub IP addresses from our access logs to minimize the risk of this happening when you use our app. To remove the possibility of IP leaks in high-threat scenarios, we deploy Hush Line as a Tor Onion service.

Tor Support

Tor is a network that anonymizes your internet browsing activity. It acts as a proxy by randomly routing your request through its network of relays, hiding who is making the request. Tor also has a feature called Onion Services. An Onion service makes a website or application accessible through a special .onion address that is only available through the Tor Browser.
Message submission onion site.
When using a regular browser like Chrome or Firefox, when you enter an address like hushline.app the browser needs to know the server address for that URL. A long chain of services helps make it possible, from your ISP to DNS services, the server running the app, and more to make it possible to type something memorable like hushline.app instead of remembering and entering 64.23.155.36. Just as the browser needs to know the IP address of the target web server, your IP address is also necessary to know where to send the information.
Your IP address is essentially your customer ID for your internet service provider. All someone with the necessary authority needs to do is request the information of the owner of that IP, and your real identity is exposed.
Onion services defeat this kind of threat because they don’t operate using the same DNS and IP protocols. Tor Browser is connected to the Tor anonymizing network, and so are the Onion services that exist within it. When someone uses a .onion address, the request from the browser to the server and back never leaves the Tor network, completely sidestepping IP leakage.
To access Hush Line’s information site using our Onion address, enter `http://w25rxxn62dgix7qdbw4ot37m2y4ty7kxfrinspw4ce7jzse7pb6rhaqd.onion/\`, or to access the app’s Onion site, enter `http://ghj4vviaoccj4tj2r3ss52arbnchkfvs7uft4sgtrkuvdha5zjgo6yqd.onion\` in Tor Browser.

Timing Correlation

To know that two people are talking to each other, you don’t need to know the contents of their messages if you have enough metadata about the conversation. One such way to reveal important context about who might be talking to each other is to learn when the messages were sent. If there’s a flurry of activity from two accounts — one after the other, repeatedly, pausing at similar times, being active at similar times— someone analyzing the logs might assume those accounts are talking to each other.
To address this, we do not timestamp messages or relate accounts in any way. An attacker with access to the server cannot relate two messages on the platform, which is largely irrelevant as Hush Line is designed as a one-way messenger.

6. Confidentiality and Integrity of the Disclosures

Message Encryption

Hush Line uses PGP for message encryption, making the key owner the only one technically able to read the decrypted messages. Messages are end-to-end encrypted using OpenPGP.js, meaning our server will never see the decrypted contents.
Hush Line Inbox with an encrypted message.
We’re proactive about communicating with senders and receivers about the importance of the tip line owner adding their public PGP key, and we discourage sharing sensitive information if the receiver doesn’t encrypt their messages.
Unencrypted warning on a message submission page.

HTTPS

We use Let’s Encrypt for HTTPS certificates. When a site uses HTTPS, requests use the TLS protocol to encrypt data in transit from the browser to the server and back. This protects your activity from being monitored or tampered with while using the app.
For an attacker who can monitor network connections, instead of seeing which page you’re on or who you’re submitting a message to, the primary URL is only visible. So if a message submitter is on https://hushline.app/submit_message/artvandelay the recipient remains unobservable, and the only thing visible to a network snoop is https://hushline.app/.

Conclusion

There are many tip-line solutions on the market, and it can be intimidating to choose the right one for you. We hope this article gives you a data-driven way to evaluate the software that fits your needs.

2024.05.19 07:50 AnividiaRTX Hoid, Adonalsium, Theory

Mildly crackhead theory time, But I can't be the only one who's thought in this direction before. If im about to get WOB'd, so be it.
TLDR: The core of my theory is that Hoid is attempting to reform Adonalsium. But there's a lot of different routes this could go.
Now, I haven't read 100% of cosmere as it stands, dragonsteel hasn't entered my radar, and im missing several secret projects that I believe are Cosmere. Obviously spoilers for everything else, including TheSunlitMan.
Firstly, Hoid clearly has some kind of long game plan. Consistently he has shown to think ahead whenever we get a good view of him. Almost everything he does feels as if it goes exactly to his plans. Not quite everything... but most of the time he's clearly in control of the situations he's involved in. He definitely has strong forsight, and I believe a BIG portion of that is due to the dawnshard he held, even if he doesn't seem to have shardic level of foresight. Man's entire purpose has pretty much been to help steer people's paths, or should I say Boulders down the paths he thinks is best for them.
Secondly, Hoid has expressed regret for the shattering, and watching his friends or at least comrades overtime be corrupted has certainly bothered him. Even if he feels it was needed during his actions in assisting the cosmere.
Thirdly, Throughout his time Hoid has clearly been actively collecting investiture from every shard he can manage we know he has a bead of Lerasium, Atium, Yolen Lightweaving as well as Rosharan Lightweaving, and Awkaning. Ofcourse he also held a Dawnshard and It's not unlikely he has more than that, in which we simply haven't seen far or I'm forgetting. It could be possible that part of his plan is to form a connection between all these different forms of investiture within himself.
Fourthly, I feel it's common enough that I don't need to dive into depth about the theory that the cosmere is heading towards a possible reformation of adonalsium from his shards. Harmony being one of the clearest indications, the Iriali people and their religion being another.
Fifthly, and this is full on crackhead mode. While Hoid may have sworn to not take up a shard, iirc, the belief in your oaths and especially the way you perceive them is important. Hoid will manipulate the shards into re-connecting with each other over time until they're read to form one again, himself being the vessel. I don't have enough evidence to feel confident in this fifth part... but my gut is too strongly committed to not put it in. It could be equally likely he's simultaneously searching for the right person to take up Adonalsium's whole, or it could even be possible Adonalsium doesn't need a vessel at all.
Anyways, what do y'all think?

2024.05.19 07:49 RadioRavenRide Activity Shilling: What if Neoliberals contributed to Bridge-building?

It if my belief that the hardest liberal ideal to uphold is not property rights or free-markets but pluralism. This is because the instinct to demonize and distance oneself from one's enemies is overwhelmingly strong, driven by pride, fear, anger, and disgust. But we should stand against these impulses, for the very core of democracy relies on people and groups of different to engage and hash out a plan for the future. With that in mind, I would like to make a case that one of the most powerful and useful things a principles neoliberal can do is bridge build.

What is Bridge Building?

Bridge-building is not rigorously defined because it's pretty new, but it comes from very old human instincts: curiosity and a desire for authentic connection.
Curiosity is not just a desire for knowledge, but a desire to expand one's view of the world and a practice of being an ever-enthusiastic learner. Curiosity does not have to be about facts but also about new experiences and ways of thinking. To be curious about a person is not necessarily wanting to know their social security number, but how they came to where they are in life and how they see the world. Curiosity is not just touching grass, but appreciating the park's beauty. If I were not curious, I would likely have noped out of this subreddit based on the name alone. But because I was, I read the sidebar.
It is my belief that people have an innate desire to be heard, to be seen and respected. And although it is diminished as of late, people also have the capacity to truly connect to others on a deeper-than-superficial level. This is hard online, but much easier in the real world. This desire and capacity for connection can help people overcome great differences and sprout the seeds of a great friendship.
Based on these two principles, Bridge-Building is a movement to ease polarization by connecting people of different backgrounds and groups together to foster greater understanding. The goal is not to reduce disagreement, but to make it more productive.

Why should Neoliberals Aim to Bridge Build?

Yeah, why should we? If we know best, why should we listen to those chumps? After all, I already have a name for everyone to right and left of me: wrong.
For one, do we really know best about everything? In the Socratic Dialogue Meno, Socrates and the politician Meno discuss the nature of virtue. During a debate on whether virtue can be taught, Meno asks Socrates this:
And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you do not know? What will you put forth as the subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want, how will you ever know that this is the thing which you did not know?
Here in lies Meno's Paradox: how do you know if you need to learn? If you already have that knowledge, you do not need to look any longer. And if you don't, then you have no idea what you're searching for. Socrates uses the idea of inbuilt knowledge as his answer, but I have another one which may strike more directly to the interests of liberals: simply assume that your knowledge is incomplete, and seek a more complete picture. Given all the knowledge in the world out there and all the things have yet to be discovered, it is unlikely that you or any other person has the complete picture on even a single issue.
But even if we do not know everything, if there value in learning from those of different views of us? I say that there is, and I will use another famous parable, this time from Buddhism, to illustrate my point. In this story, a kind invites a group of blind men to experience something that they have never encountered before: an elephant. When each blind man has felt a part of the creature, the king asks them to describe what they are touching. The man touching the foot says that the thing is a pillar, the man touching the trunk says it is a plow, the man touching the tip of the tail says a brush, and so on. The blind men cannot agree on what they are all touching, and so start an ancient version of a flamewar which entertains the king. In this story, the elephant is "The Truth", if such a thing exists. Although we all come in contact with the truth and with reality, we each come at it at different angles, like how the blind men are touching different parts. This means that while our individual perspectives are incomplete, they can be put together as a much more complete picture. People who remember the "wisdom" of the crowds should also recognize the powerful insights that can come from non-experts, especially as a group. Neoliberals who aspire to be "evidence-based" should not just gather evidence from different sources, but learn about different ways of thinking from others, or else they would be like one blind man squeezing the elephant's gonads really hard and thinking he's touching a balloon.
Hoewver, there are a lot of people who will reply to this very post and say, "isn't it dangerous to engage with certain people? What about those who are too stupid and hateful to learn?". Firstly, you should never bridge build if you feel unsafe. However, feeling unsafe is not the same as feeling uncomfortable, and discomfort may help you shake out of old patterns. Secondly, the foremost goal of substantive discussion is not to teach but to learn: even if the other party is too stupid to learn, if you are able to listen and learn you will have gained from the conversation. This may not always work out, but I promise you that when it does the effect is magical.

How do you Bridge Build?

This is the hard part. I haven't fully figured it out myself, but I have some pointers:
  1. Be patient. People, especially people on the internet, are no the most eloquent speakers. Struggling to find the right words or having incorrect grammar and spelling should not be taken as signs of being dumb babies not worth talking to. Additionally, try not assume all of what people are based on snippets of information.
  2. Be polite. Avoiding infamatory remarks ("You can't even read a supply and demand graph") and ambiguous slogans ("From the river to the sea, drugs will be free!") and try to keep the focus on the issues instead of the other person (or what you assume of the other person).
3.Stand up for your beliefs. Common ground is only real if it is earned. Be upfront about what you believe and how you came to believe those things. Anything else would be a disservice to the other party.
  1. Follow your curiosity. Try to ask questions in good faith instead of as traps (although I admit I do this a lot). Who knows where the inquiry will go?
But if that's too hard or ambiguous, there's a lot of help out there. Here are some organizations and projects that specialize in bridge-building:
Braver Angels: They host workshops, debates, and other events for bridging divides. I also like their A Braver Way Podcast. They also happen to be associated with one American Purpose Magazine.
One Small Step by StoryCorps: If you sign up, they may match you with someone they think you will have a fruitful conversation with.
National Institue for Civil Discourse: Come on, one of the founding Co-Chairs was Bill Clinton, and a former board member was H.W. Bush.
There are many more, so feel free to search for yourself. So, why not try building some bridges? They're an important piece of infrastructure.
