2024.05.19 06:37 OkiChampuru Company hiring remote from "anywhere in the U.S." backpedals after extending interview invite because of my State

Company hiring remote from
So, I recently applied for an internship that seemed perfect for my career transition. The company was equally enthusiastic, despite overlooking one important detail featured across the top of my resume, cover letter, and portfolio: my location.
I did my due diligence to research the company and tailored my application to highlight my experience/achievements accordingly. The effort seemed to pay off. They quickly reached out with an interview invite and glowing feedback. They even visited my digital portfolio multiple times where my location and community involvement is prominently featured (Yes, I set up campaign tracking links for each of my applications—I’m data-driven, whaddya expect?!). I was excited and immediately replied with my availability right away. I kicked into interview prep mode, but they never confirmed an interview slot. Instead, they called me randomly while I was at work, completely ignoring my provided times.
After my immediate callback during my lunch break was ignored, I did some internet sleuthing to track down the email of the HR recruiter who’d called and sent a polite inquiry. Their response when they finally got back to me? "Oh, even though we wanted to interview you, we can't hire you because your location doesn't meet our requirements." 🤦‍♂️ They admitted they weren’t registered to operate in my state.
This, despite their job post saying "anywhere in the United States," my location being on the top of every document submitted, and my address entered into their ATS form!
Would've been nice to know from the start!
I live in Hawaiʻi. While Hawaiʻi may be geographically distant and is indeed an illegally overthrown kingdom, it’s still considered part of the U.S.! I figured they either messed up the job description or didn’t want to admit their failure to confirm my interview time was the reason I got knocked out of the running. I laughed at the absurdity and sent them quick, friendly feedback about updating their location requirements on job listings to respect everyone’s time. Then I just as quickly moved on. Tried not to let it bug me that this isn't the first time this has happened and stay positive that at least it was addressed before jumping through more hoops.
Funny enough, the next day, I got an email from a company I hadn’t even applied to, asking for an interview. Turns out they were impressed by my resume, specifically noting volunteer work and leadership in my community—acknowledging my location! As for how I got an offer when I hadn't officially applied...I’d uploaded my resume and cover letter on their ATS portal but had hit "save" instead of "submit" because I wanted to verify a reference more applicable to this position was cool with me listing them. Anyway, ironically, this time my location worked in my favor! What a rollercoaster this week has been.

2024.05.19 06:36 asere_que_cosa How to upload images to Swell?

This question involves NextJS but it’s not directly related to an issue with NextJS.
I’m building an e-commerce website with Swell (swell.is) and Next JS. Swell has a Node backend API.
In their docs they have an example of how to create a product but this example doesn’t show how to add an array of images to that Product.
https://developers.swell.is/backend-api/products/create-a-product
In my NextJs project I have a form and I’m passing an array of images in the FormData to a server action.
In my server action I’m using formdata.getllAll(“images”) to get all images.
1- do I need to covert these typeof File images to a buffer or something else to be able to upload it to Swell?
2- who can tell me how to upload these to Swell using the backend API - look at the docs links I just posted above - because I Can’t figure it out.

2024.05.19 06:30 vyerkxon Frustrated and Heartbroken: Schengen Visa Denied Despite Strong Application

Hello Reddit,
I’m reaching out to share my recent experience with the Schengen visa application process, and to seek advice and support from this community. My wife and I recently applied for a Schengen visa through the Swedish Embassy for a trip to celebrate our 15th year together (not our marriage anniversary). Despite meticulous preparation, our application was denied, leaving us frustrated and disheartened. Here are the details:
Our Background:
Documents We Submitted:
  1. Completed and signed visa application form.
  2. Proof of identity and marital status (photocopy of passport, national identity, marriage certificate).
  3. Round-trip flight confirmation.
  4. Hotel reservations
  5. Financial stability and proof of income (payslips, salary certificate, bank account statement, solvency certificate, TIN certificate, income tax certificates, and saving certificates).
  6. Health and travel insurance policy covering the entire stay.
  7. Detailed itinerary.
Reason for Denial: The refusal letter cited two reasons:
  1. "The information communicated to justify the purpose and conditions of the planned stay are not reliable."
  2. "There are reasonable doubts as to your intention to leave the territory of the member states before the expiry of the visa."
Our Feelings: Despite presenting a strong case with genuine and meticulously prepared documents, we were denied. This feels like a severe injustice, especially considering our stable backgrounds, education, and financial ability to support the trip, only for the people like us. It’s hard not to feel that this scrutiny is disproportionately harsh. I understand there are a lot of political neusance going on, but with strong background and education, and ability to spare, I guess this is just us!
Seeking Advice: Has anyone else faced a similar situation? How did you handle it, and were you successful on a subsequent application? Any advice on how we can strengthen our application further or address the reasons for denial would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading and for any help you can provide.
TL;DR: Applied for a Schengen visa through the Swedish Embassy with my wife to celebrate our 15th year together. Despite a thorough and genuine application, we were denied for reasons that seem unfounded. Seeking advice and support from those who have been in a similar situation.

2024.05.19 06:28 heyyvanityy Will I pass my drug test for weed for a govt. internship?

So I recently accepted an internship at a government facility that will do a drug test, likely on May 28th. I stopped smoking on 4/20, or when I received the offer letter informing me of the test. I’m excited about this opportunity & I don’t want it to go to waste (honestly, I really should’ve stopped sooner, it was dumb of me to keep smoking). Weed is the only drug I use that stays in my urine for long enough to appear on the test.
I have been drinking a lot of liquids, however I am pretty big (5’8, ~180lb, male, fairly sedentary) and was a heavy smokeedible user (however I cut down after a scare with potential CHS). I’ve done a fair bit of research, and considering that the job has a on-site urine analysis station & is a government job, I quickly decided that using fake urine probably wasn’t the best play (although I am not entirely against the idea). While I could use a couple of detox drinks, that also might be risky considering that they might be able to detect it in my system.
I’ve found a few posts suggesting detoxing with watecreatine/vitamin B, but I’m a bit unsure/scared of if it’ll work considering my weight and my previous history of using weed.
I guess what I’m asking here is - what should I do?

2024.05.19 06:25 MerlionGalGal Shaving Fees for Hair Removal

Hey everyone,I just came across this blog post from Wellaholic about their new shaving fees that they are introducing: https://wellaholic.com/blog/shaving-fees
Basically, they will now be charging a $10 shaving fee for Brazilian/Boyzilian SHR and IPL hair removal. The fee covers the extra time and effort needed to shave longer hair before the treatment.
Personally, I can understand the rationale since shaving does add time to the appointment. But will some people find the $10 a bit steep, especially if you're already paying hundreds for the hair removal package itself.
I'm curious what others think about this - have you experienced this at other hair removal places? Do you feel it's reasonable or more of a hidden fee?
Will this impact your decision to go to Wellaholic or do Brazilian treatments in general?

2024.05.19 06:23 mastr1121 Update to my last post.

Please Read My Last post before you dive into this one...

Because boy oh boy have things changed BIG TIME.
In the last almost 2 months since I dropped that post, there's been some new people who were hired, and another round of good old combo clerk training. I like usual was not even asked to be part of it. I would have said "No Thank You That Sounds God Awful", but it was another "candidate" who really got my Blood Absolutely Boiling.
We have this newcomer to the company who I will call Guy 1 from here on out.
Guy 1 could not be lazier. The dude on several occasions, just walked out of the store, out to his car, got in turned on the AC and spent 30ish-40 minutes out there. Which wouldn't be so bad if he didnt do it EVERY SINGLE HOUR HE WAS ON THE CLOCK!!!!! We would call his name on the intercom for almost the entire time with no answer. and his lunch breaks were almost an hour to an hour and a half when the rest of the galaxy only takes a half for lunch and then gets their butts back on the clock.
Long story short he's now a combo clerk... let that sink in really quick.
The other day I was helping get carts with this guy because it was his hour, and he was inside until about 40 minutes past the hour. I had done his sweep, then I saw that both sides were getting low on carts. So I let management know that I would be outside getting more carts because it was his hour, and he was in the check stand covering a lunch or something. I went out there grabbed 2 sets of 7 carts, and pushed them in, then Guy comes out vest on but no Ratchet Strap and then proceeds to grab 20 carts and push them into the stall. I told him that he cannot bring 20 carts in and that he needs to go inside and grab a ratchet strap and pull in 7 max because if someone from union or a VP comes in for a little visit, the store gets dinged and our SM would have both our heads for screwing with her records or whatever.
Guy proceeds to yell at me because its fine and SM has seen me do it before and that I do things my own way and that I cannot yell at him. Guy then does another set of 20 before going off to lunch someplace outside of the store parking lot. Leaving me, with left extreme side of the cart corral done and right extreme side of the cart corral done but no carts in the middle.
Later that day he pulls me aside and apologizes for yelling at me, because "I don't like it when people raise their voices at me" when I only did it to get his attention because he was going from a parking lot that might as well be its own rumble strip while going over a rumble strip with 20 carts. He then claimed that his maximum was 56 carts pushed in in one go.
Even the other cashiers saw that I should have been at least asked and were asking management like "what the hell why not me?" and all they said in return was a shrug followed with, "yeah he was an awful choice wasn't he?"
Anyway to answer questions from the last post... apparently there is no such thing as a "voluntary demotion" I asked SM about that and she herself had no Idea what that was. it's just good old-fashioned favoritism, I guess. I asked my manager why I can't go into being on the pickup team and she said that "I spoke with "manager" over there and they said, "my technical skills were lacking."" which I will admit makes sense when I can count the number of orders I've done on my own in the low single digits and I've never done a single carry out.
More than likely, I will be going to the union this week and I'll be showing them both of these posts.

2024.05.19 06:19 Rainyfriedtofu Clover Assistant vs Epic and the tale of Peter Part 1.

Hello Fellow Apes,
In my recent posts, there were discussions regarding how Clover Assistant will compete with Epic EHEMR in the future, and someone asked about how CA can make EMR better. To understand this thesis, we're going to start by looking at the two offering in a table. It's going to be a long one.
Clover Assistant Epic
Clover Assistant is a clinical support tool designed by Clover Health, a health insurance company. It aims to help physicians make more informed decisions by providing them with actionable insights at the point of care. The tool integrates data from various sources to present a comprehensive view of a patient's health, aiming to improve outcomes and streamline care delivery. At the moment, CA has the capacity to integrate with Epic. CA is primarily focuses on enhancing clinical decision-making by providing insights and recommendations based on data analysis. It is designed to complement existing EHR. However, in the future I think CA will break away from this, and we will go into more detail when we look at the history of Epic. Epic Systems Corporation provides one of the most widely used electronic health record (EHR) systems in the United States and globally. Epic EHR is a comprehensive platform that covers various aspects of healthcare management, including patient records, scheduling, billing, and clinical workflows. Epic is a full-fledged EHR system that manages all aspects of patient care and hospital administration. It includes modules for clinical workflows, patient scheduling, billing, and etc. CA isn't at this level yet.
CA is designed to integrate with various EHR systems, providing a layer of intelligence on top of existing workflows. Its goal is to enhance the data already present in the EHRs with additional insights. It does so by aggregating data from multiple sources, including claims data, lab results, and patient-reported information. It uses this data to offer real-time recommendations and insights to physicians. Additionally, it offers insights in a concise, actionable format to help physicians quickly make informed decisions. We don't know what the cost of CA implementation will be, but I know 100% it will be cheaper than Epic, and in the future it will have the same features as Epic. Epic is known for its interoperability through the use of standards like HL7 and FHIR, allowing it to connect with other systems and share data across different healthcare providers and organizations. It collects and stores a wide range of clinical and administrative data. While it offers decision support tools, its primary function is data management and workflow facilitation. However, there are a lot of manual work involved for those who use this because it is an older system. While functional, Epic is often criticized for its complexity and steep learning curve. However, it is also praised for its extensive customization options, allowing organizations to tailor the system to their specific needs. The biggest problem with Epic is it is known for its high implementation costs and resource-intensive deployment process. However, it advertises itself as a comprehensive solution that can manage all aspects of healthcare operations.
With the comparison between Epic and Clover Assistant clarified, let's delve into the history of Epic Systems Corporation. Founded in 1979 by Judith R. Faulkner, Epic started as a small company focused on developing database management systems for healthcare. Initially, it faced several challenges, but these obstacles helped shape its pivotal role in the healthcare industry.
Epic's first product was Chronicles, a clinical database management system designed to handle patient records and clinical data. This foundational product set the stage for the more comprehensive EHR systems Epic would later develop. Notably, Epic adopted a client-server architecture early on, which was advanced for its time. This technology allowed multiple users to access and update patient records simultaneously, significantly improving efficiency and collaboration in healthcare settings.
In its early years, Epic primarily catered to small to mid-sized healthcare organizations, including hospitals and clinics. The potential to streamline operations and improve patient care through better data management attracted these early adopters. Epic's readiness to customize its software to meet the specific needs of each client helped build strong relationships and loyalty among its early customers.
One significant challenge Epic faced was integrating its systems with the existing healthcare infrastructure. Many healthcare providers operated disparate systems that did not easily communicate with each other. Epic addressed this by evolving into one of the leading providers of EHR systems, gradually expanding into almost every healthcare system. As Epic's client base grew, the company had to ensure its systems could scale to handle larger volumes of data and more complex operations.
From the outset, Epic focused on designing systems that were user-friendly and tailored to the workflows of healthcare professionals. This emphasis on usability set it apart from competitors. The company also invested heavily in developing standards for data exchange and interoperability, which later became crucial as the healthcare industry moved towards more integrated and connected systems.
Epic's success stories from early clients built a strong reputation in the healthcare industry, helping to attract new customers. The company formed partnerships with academic medical centers, which drove innovation and provided a platform for testing and refining new features. Epic continuously reinvested in research and development, ensuring its products remained at the cutting edge of technology and met the evolving needs of healthcare providers. The robust customer support system, including extensive training programs for users, was vital for successful implementations and fostering long-term customer relationships.
Epic played a significant role in setting standards for electronic health records and healthcare IT. Its systems helped drive the adoption of standardized practices across the industry. Early implementations of Epic's systems demonstrated significant improvements in operational efficiency, reducing administrative burdens and allowing healthcare providers to focus more on patient care.
Moving forward, the healthcare industry recognizes that the new frontier is based on a strong foundation of social determinants of health and preventative medicine. With that said, it is evident that Epic has built a comprehensive platform that covers various aspects of healthcare management. Starting as merely an EHR company, Epic has added numerous features, setting a precedent that newer entrants like Clover Assistant are following. Clover Assistant, an AI clinical support tool, aims to modernize EHR usage by helping physicians process data with speed and accuracy not possible by a normal human. In the future, just like Epic, Clover Assistant is expected to add more features. The key differentiators moving forward will likely be cost, compliance with evolving standards like CMS-HCC V28, and adaptability to policy changes.
Currently, the estimated cost for implementing Epic is:
Andrew mentioned that Clover Assistant (CA) plans to adopt a Software as a Service (SaaS) revenue model, charging on a per member per month basis. This pricing strategy aims to provide a steady, recurring income and is designed to be affordable and scalable, particularly for small businesses. For example, the hypothetical cost could be around $5 per patient per month (I'm pulling these numbers out of my ass because I don't have Clov's data). This pricing structure makes it feasible for private practices to adopt the system and have a positive experience with it. The goal is to replicate the success of systems like Epic by providing a cost-effective and manageable solution for healthcare providers. The person who will be leading this charge will be none other than Peter Kuipers.
Peter Kuipers is a seasoned financial executive with over 25 years of experience in technology leadership. He has held senior financial roles in various prominent companies, including Omnicell, Quantcast Corporation, The Weather Company, Yahoo!, Altera Corporation, General Electric, and Akzo Nobel. Before joining Clov, Peter served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Omnicell, a healthcare technology company focused on medication and supply management solutions. He joined Omnicell in August 2015 and played a crucial role in the company's financial and strategic development. During his tenure at Omnicell, Kuipers contributed significantly to the company's growth, helping to increase its revenue from $485 million to $1.3 billion. His responsibilities extended beyond the traditional CFO role, as he also oversaw global supply chain and manufacturing, information technology, international business, corporate development, and mergers and acquisitions. His efforts were pivotal in transforming Omnicell into a leader in cloud-based platforms and SaaS/Tech-Enabled Services for the healthcare industry. He also oversaw various strategic initiatives, including international business expansion and mergers and acquisitions, contributing to Omnicell's global reach and market leadership.
I became aware of Peter Kuipers and Omnicell because Upsetweekend's company, along with many others, shifted from using Pyxis Oncology to Omnicell. Initially, Pyxis Oncology offered superior tools and services. However, during Peter's tenure at Omnicell, not only did the company offer more cost-effective solutions, but it also began to provide superior services. Securing Peter as a CFO for Clover was quite a coup, and it's impressive that they managed to attract such a seasoned executive to a smaller, less established company. Given his extensive experience and track record, Peter is well-equipped to strategically price and market Clover Assistant (CA). His expertise will likely be pivotal in attracting early adopters and expanding the company's operations. Just look at Omincell's stock price during his tenure.
https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/NASDAQ-OMCL/
At their core, both Clover Assistant (CA) and Epic are tools designed for electronic health record (EHR) management. They facilitate the presentation of data to physicians, enabling them to devise accurate treatment plans. However, there are notable differences between the two systems, primarily driven by their technological foundations and target functionalities.
Clover Assistant: This is a relatively new tool that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) to process EHR data, aiming to simplify and enhance the efficiency of physicians' work. The use of AI allows Clover Assistant to offer advanced data analysis, potentially providing more insightful recommendations and support for clinical decisions.
Epic: As an older and more established EHR system, Epic has a broad user base and is deeply integrated into many healthcare institutions' workflows. While it is built on an older technological framework, it is robust and extensively supports various healthcare operations from patient records management to billing.
The analogy of video game development is apt for comparing these systems. Imagine Epic as a game built on an earlier version of the Unreal Engine, while Clover Assistant is akin to a game developed on Unreal Engine 5. The newer engine (or in this case, the newer AI-driven platform of Clover Assistant) offers enhanced capabilities, such as better processing power and more advanced features, which may not be as optimized in the older system used by Epic.
As Clover Assistant gains traction and proves its efficacy and cost-efficiency, it could start to compete more directly with Epic, especially if it continues to attract positive feedback from early adopters. This competition could push both platforms to continuously innovate and improve, potentially leading to better EHR management tools available to healthcare providers.
In summary, while both tools serve the fundamental purpose of managing health records and aiding treatment planning, their underlying technologies and approaches to handling data greatly influence their capabilities and potential impact on the healthcare industry.
*Update* I forgot to delete the title, but there will not be a part 2. I'm tired ^_^

2024.05.19 06:15 campground_ (Update) 10 years ago, Jenique Dalcourt died after being bludgeoned to death on a bike path. A man was just arrested and charged for her murder.

This case was very big here in Quebec (Canada) but I don't think it has ever been discussed on this sub before. I'm glad there was an arrest. Lots of women felt uncomfortable walking/biking by themselves in the months after the crime - and probably even longer than that.
\Obligatory "English is not my first language" disclaimer, sorry for any formulation that could accidentally be weird or insensitive.*
The crime
On October 21st 2014, Jenique Dalcourt, a 23 year-old woman, was found badly beaten on a bike path in a park in the heart of Longueuil, a city generally considered as a suburb of Montreal. She was walking back from work in the dark when the attack happened.
Shortly after the attack, a man called 911 to report that he found her, and performed CPR on her while talking to the agent.
She died of her injuries.
The investigation concluded that she had been beaten with a steel bar and was sexually assaulted.
In the days following the murder, tree branches were cut and new lighting was installed to improve security on the bike path.
Two days before the crime, another woman was sexually assaulted about half a mile from there, also walking alone at night, by a man that brought her by force in his car. The police was publicly criticised because they did not seem to take her deposition seriously and did not broadcast the information to the population.
The main suspect
Four days after the murder, the police arrested a man and tried to bring him to court, but they didn't have enough evidence to get him charged.
A year later, in October 2015, they tried and failed again to get him charged.
At that time, the suspect wasn't named, and we didn't heard much about the case afterwards.
The recent development
This week, on May 14th 2024, almost 10 years after the murder, the police arrested once again the same man, and this time, they successfully got him charged for first degree murder.
Michael McDuff Jalbert, now 35 (26 at the time of the murder), was the man who called 911 that night.
We don't know exactly what allowed the police to make progress in building the case. They simply said it was linked to forensic science.
Jenique's family is relieved that a suspect is finally brought to justice. Both her parents were in court to see him get charged.
Michael McDuff Jalbert denies that he killed Jenique Dalcourt and says he now «regrets» stopping to help her.
He will stay in prison awaiting his next appearance in court, scheduled for July 19th.
Other information
Since Michael McDuff Jalbert was charged, additional information surfaced about him, but not from police sources (this info all comes from media outlets, sources below).
The trial will continue during the summer, so I will try to update this post.

2024.05.19 06:14 just_hanging_around8 Big Box Pet Store refused to sell me and my Papa fish

Weird title, and weird story, but I have to get this off my chest and tell somebody about it because it upset me so so badly.
My grandpa is in the middle stages of dementia, and he likes to watch animals. Birds outside, the neighborhood cats outside of his window, squirrels, live cams of animals on TV, all that kind of stuff keeps his attention and make him less antsy for a long time. So for his birthday in early April, I got him a 20 gallon fish tank to keep on the table next to his recliner. Now, I did some research into fish, and found out it was best to run the tank for a while before putting fish in it. Ok, so I set it all up on his birthday, put some aquatic plants in it, and let it run until I got home from college, about a month later.
The other day I decided it was finally time to get some fish. Although I could have done this without my Papa, I decided it would be good to get him out and about, and get his say on what color of fish we were gonna get. We talked about what fish we wanted before this, and decided that wanted at least 4 Tetras, so we could name them after the Beatles.
We get to the big chain pet store, Papa picks out a little yellow submarine to put in his tank, all is well, until we get to the actually getting of the fish. A worker comes out and asks me what type of fish I want, I point out the exact fish, and ask my Papa what colors he would like. The worker stops me, and asks me who exactly the fish are for, and seeing no reason to lie, I tell the worker that they are for my Papa. Who, at this stage of dementia, it is quite obvious he is not at 100% mental capacity. Suddenly, the worker gets all strange, and begins interrogating me on my tank. What size it is, how long the filter has been running, etc. Again, I see no reason to lie to him, so I tell him everything already covered. The worker says that my tank is way to small, that I need at least 30 gallon tank to hold any fish, and that my filter hasn't been running for long enough, blabbers on for about 30 minutes about how irresponsible it would be for me to have this fish, an insists the only thing that can live in my tank is plants. He says he will not sell us fish, any fish. He then proceeds to practically force us to buy a plant (picked one off the shelf, put it in my hand, and walked us to the register). I buy the plant and my Papa's yellow submarine.
At this point, I am fuming. I kind of caught on to what this worker was about-he assumed my Papa couldn't take care of this fish. But I'm trying to keep my cool, not wanting my Papa to see that I was upset. Papa is of course confused when we get back to the car as to why we have no fish, I tell him that they just didn't have the ones we wanted (now usually I tell the truth but in this situation, I knew he would have stormed back in and demanded the fish if he knew what had happened)
I knew for a fact fish could live in the tank I set up, so I did what I should have done in the first place, go to the local fish store. The reason I didn't do this in the first place is because it is not disability accessible, like so many small business are, unfortunately.
I go to the local fish store, leaving Papa in the car with the Beatles playing (of course), explain to the fish man my situation. Asking him if there are any fish that could live in a 20 gallon tank
"Of course, I've got the perfect fish for you"
You know what they were? Tetras! The only warning the fish man gave me was to keep the food hidden from my Papa as him may over feed them, no problem was gonna do that anyways. Plan was for me to be the fish caretaker in the first place.
So now John, Paul, George, and Ringo are happily living next to my Papas chair with their yellow submarine. My Papa couldn't be happier watching his fish. I'm just so mad we were seemingly discriminated against by the worker at the big chain store, I assume he thought my Papa would be the sole caregiver of the fish, which is an unfair assumption, especially since he didn't ask me who would be caring for the fish-just who the fish were for.
Sorry for the long post, this whole story has had me fuming for days, I though writing it all out for you lovely internet people would help me calm down about it.
TLDR: Big chain store wouldn't sell me and my Papa fish because worker assumed my Papa wasn't capable of taking care of them, local business to the rescue. Paul, John, George and Ringo are now very happy fish.

2024.05.19 06:13 Mainestrone [TOMT] [TV show] [2000s] Short animated skits about an anthropomorphic bird family

I'm looking for a series of 2D animated comedy shorts I used to watch on a German kids' TV channel back in the 2000s. I think the title was written in lowercase letters and sung out by a male VA in the very short intro sequence, but this could be a false memory. I don't know if it was a German show or just a dub. The main characters were two anthropomorphic bird parents and their bratty son who was still partially in his eggshell. I think they were light brown Dohdoh birds (I know the spelling is wrong, but Reddit won't let me post if I write it correctly). The animation looked a bit simplistic and stilted.
I only remember two skits. In the first, the boy and his Mom were at the doctors' office. The boy was supposed to get a shot, but repeatedly flinched away out of fear, which increasingly agitated the doc. After his Mom promised to get him ice cream if he was brave, the boy had the audacity to tell the doc to hurry up with the shot. It ended with the doc ramming the syringe in the eggshell (not graphic or scary, just comedic).
In the second skit, the Dad asked the boy to go to the store and buy some bottles of water. Since the boy didn't feel like doing it, he kept stalling with What-if scenarios and successfully manipulated his Dad into going to the store himself (I have the feeling it might have been a rip-off or parody of this Sesame Street skit).

2024.05.19 06:07 No-Preference6624 Narcissism or Weaponized Incompetence?

As a writer, I have a conflicted relationship with commissions, but you’re here for the tea. Sorry if this is jumbled, but the client is an amalgamation of every bad commissioner that you have ever read about or that you may have worked for.
First, they ordered a writing commission, but during the first 5000 words they were surprised there was “too much” writing and reading. I told them from the start the first draft would be better off as a script so I could easily adapt into a novel, a D&D homebrew or whatever they desired. They originally had 60 PAGES of characters, but I have cut it down to 31 pages (so far). I gave them three simple ‘homework’ tasks to gather all the information I needed for the three parts of this commission. A plot summary (in bullet points) which took them four months because they insisted on writing it like a novel. The list of characters took six months (they are going back to remake EVERY character reference because it took them so long that the early references are out of date) and they fought me with every character we cut and they still haven’t sent me examples of how they want the D&D homebrew to be formatted. They say they have no idea what to look for as they knew nothing about D&D, but they blew me off for two years playing a D&D game with other friends using a D&D Beyond account ( I do not support Wizards of the Coast). For context, the bullet points took me 2 pages and 2 voice calls with the commissioner to summarize and the list of character names took 3 days and 3 voice calls to compile on Google Doc and move to Trello. What about my plan to script? He INSISTED that I, an expert in my field, should write the novel while he worked with a ‘friend’ of his on the D&D homebrew. Why would he need a script? He didn’t WANT a script.
Only a few weeks later, he ran back to me after being blown off by said ‘friend’, with the genius idea of having me write a script, novel and homebrew. His card is always empty whenever he pays for the next part of the commission because he spends it on $400 sketches and junk food. He refuses to listen when I say he doesn’t need 300+ characters. One of the stories he is plagiarizing is mine. My novel only has 27 characters (including a canine). We will be celebrating the 16 month anniversary of the commission by the time this is posted. He has nine days to finish the characters before I cancel. I’d rather live in my car again. Two hours ago he LITERALLY just made a FULL bio (in the description) with five full body outfits for a character that was deleted. He spent a month adding a shine texture to an npc's tiddies.
After making me wait for 16 months, he has the AUDACITY to get angry at me when I was offline for an emergency and I could only make one of our two commission vcs. Now he’s using the deaths of friend(s) caused by recent global tensions to ADD more characters. Why do you NEED to keep your brother’s ocs? To kill them? Delete them! This psycho has a history of making fictional versions of people who he perceives as having wronged him to kill and/or torture them graphically. Do you really need an entire MONTH? You won’t recycle two characters (that don’t belong to your brother) to fit VITAL roles but you proceed to make two random characters FROM SCRATCH that have nothing to do with those roles. Or last month I asked him for a list of 8 damage modifiers (8 digits) he replied in 12 minutes. This task previously took him an ENTIRE month because he was ‘busy’ with maps (in reality he was blowing up on a ‘friend’ who turned down his art commission on Discord and watching videos). This client is too lazy to browse with Google but he deliberately makes changes in complex organization software to disobey me. I am going to die before this torture ends! Would I be the a–hole if I put a stop to this nightmare?
It’s happening! Finished or not, the commission ends on my birthday. I am sick of getting “Okay.”, "Cool" or "XD" every time I ask him a question about his commission.
Just when I thought I was in the clear, he drops a D&D manual of dice rolling, resting and training mechanics, skill trees and a point buy system he has NEVER mentioned predating these 16 months; all the way back to when we met (2012). He does this the week that I am “finishing” the commission. Did I mention that he has “accidently” erased the maps through his own bad habits. ARGGHH! He’s got until Monday. I don’t care if he pays me one last time. I can’t live like this.
FREEEEEEEEEEEDOM! After 16 months and two weeks.
Since I had writer’s block and another traditional art friend was suffering from art block we decided to remake some of each other's characters in our styles. The subject of this post got excited to join us. What kind of a--holes would we be if we gate kept something this trivial? I remade nine of the subject of this post's characters in my style (in two days). We both use the same program for the same amount of years, but we have developed wildly different styles. Will I ever learn? He spent the whole stream telling me their sweaters were wrong, he disliked the ribbon in one of the girl’s hair because it was too big, asking why do all of the girls have the same stockings (while wearing school uniforms) and why they do not have the exact same skin tones (despite me using the eyedroppecolour picker to show him the neon colours (one background character has eight colours in their hair) he chose in his style does not work with my duller, minimalist palette. Did you ask for me to copy your style or use my own style? After they were done, he listed all of his (multiple) issues with them like nine college essays. I can take criticism, but I had to force one compliment (one word per character) out of him. His criticisms regarded me adapting elements from the references that HE sent me. 90% was negative and 10% positive. Naturally the subject of this post still has not even thought about which character of mine he'd like to remake, but even professionals cannot unravel the web of things this person has done to avoid me even in situations when I am the center of the conversation/activity. I was unsure where to post this since this rant is a bit of most subreddits that I enjoy. Thank you for reading! I have mountains of experiences to share from freelancing and I will have many more in the future.

2024.05.19 06:07 Worth-Local-6233 Burst Pipe

Hi everyone,
I am not sure if I am in the right place or if this is the correct place to post so mods please take this post down if I am violating any rules.
We had an electrician out to our house yesterday (licensed and bonded) to add an electrical outlet for our new dishwasher. As he was working, he busted open the pipe near the sink. He didn’t turn the water off beforehand and water was everywhere. I came home to wet towels in the laundry room sink and was really confused about the situation.
We had a plumber come out today and he recommended to get a remediation company out as soon as possible because under the sink was drenched. He was worried about mold and asked if I was connected to our kitchen cupboards and started talking about the potential for a kitchen remodel due to the water damage.
I don’t know if I am in shock or what but it seemed a little extreme. I am wondering if insurance will cover this and how to go about it if there is truly water damage. We are in Washington state and have Allstate. Thank you so much in advance, guys!

2024.05.19 06:04 dtrpa2032 Should i ‘16M’ be worrying about my ‘15F’ girlfriends gay guy bestfriend

First of let me say that he is 15 aswell. He is also gay. I also need to mention that i live in england and she lives in germany (met online, it’s been 6 months). So basically she has this guy best friend who is clearly gay, he’s also idk how to word it other than plumpy. I wouldn’t consider him attractive but she said he’s a 7/10 so there’s that. So i know all guys worry about their gfs best friend and even if he’s clearly gay i still have that gut feeling for some reason. So she says he’s grabbed her ass and boobs a couple times as a joke. Very very weird but ‘he’s gay’ and by the look of him yes he is but still. Also sometimes they do romantic stuff like go to restaurants, cinema, stay in and eat snacks while watching movies etc. She says they both hate touching eachother just in general but i don’t know. There’s more things like as soon as he left she sent a selfie and her cheeks looked a lil pink which is obviously a sign of being flustered and more intimate stuff but it’s hot there and she said it happens sometimes so that’s that. I also saw in a tik tin he posted with her she was wearing a long shirt that covered not a lot of her thighs but the bad part was i couldn’t see her shorts so they was really short on her. To me that seems a little to revealing to wear with your guy friend. I know he’s gay and they wouldn’t do anything but i have my doubts, especially when they go to eachothers houses it just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s not like i can check as she sound like she actually doesn’t do stuff when she denies it but she lives in a whole different country how can i be sure, she seems to get annoyed as i made lots of jokes about her kissing him and stuff but like im stressing because i have an undeniable gut feeling that something off. Like whenever i hear hes going her house or she’s going his it just ruins my mood.

2024.05.19 06:01 Choice_Evidence1983 My (16m) mom (40f) confessed that she is my sister and I now feel bad

Trigger Warnings: death of a loved one, past sexual assault, teen pregnancy, drugs and alcohol use, mentions of overdose
Original Post (Wayback Machine): May 11, 2024
Idk why I feel so much guilt about this whole situation. This happened 5 days ago, 1 week after my 16th birthday.
So my mom (sister) explained our entire family situation. Her mom (my bio mom) was assaulted as a teenager (15) and was forced to keep the child because of her parents, eventually giving birth to my mom. They struggled a lot during this time and my mom was resented by her mom so she moved away as soon as she was 18 and went NC. Her mom began spiralling with drugs, alcohol, etc once she left and eventually ended up pregnant again with me around the time my mom was 23. However, she was deemed unfit to raise me so they managed to contact my mom and she agreed to take me in. My bio mom never really recovered and ended up overdosing a year later.
This completely surprised me because I genuinely never had clue I wasn't actually my mom's child. We look very much alike and she went to great lengths to become my mom. She said that I don't need to call her mom anymore and that I deserved to know the truth before I turn 18. This upset me and I absolutely disagreed with her and said that no matter what she would always be my mom and I would always call her that because she is in every way my mom. And we both cried over this and hugged and I thanked her for telling me the truth also.
The thing that is eating away at me though is that she sacrificed so much to raise me and I can't repay her in any way. Like she hasn't dated at all even though I know that she wants a partner. She also changed professions to better accommodate me. She has done so much and I can't repay her in any way. And I haven't always been the best to her either. I was definitely difficult as a child and recently I haven't really been listening and respecting her as much as I should be. And I know I've probably said some mean things over the years, mostly around wanting to be with my dad (she initially said that she had a husband that abandoned us when I was born). All of this just made me feel so much guilt and sadness. And I know if I talk to her about it she'll just reassure me that she is happy and I shouldn't worry but I can't get rid of this feeling.
I've decided that I'm going to be the best son ever and do everything she says from now on. But I still can't get rid of this feeling. I don't know what to do.
Relevant/Top Comments
YoungeCurmudgeon4: Your sister is an amazing woman and an incredible person and deserves all the love and respect in the world.
As for you, handling this so well takes a lot in a person. Be proud of yourself. And always believe in yourself.
OOP: Thanks I'll try my best ❤️ My love for her is probably at an all time high. I wish I'd know earlier so that I could have always treated her this way.
TraditionalShop6800: Talk to your mom, thank her and tell you are grateful for how she raised you. And now, she should think about herself too. Encourage her to date again and find a partner.
OOP: Okay I will. I think I'll take some time to figure out the right words to say to her 😅
Galactus1701: Repay her by being the best person you can be. Help her, be respectful, study and always be grateful.
OOP: Absolutely will be the best son I can 😅
BiasCutTweed: You have to also give yourself a little grace here - your mom sounds amazing and deserves all the best, but what she clearly wanted for you was to give you a normal, stable childhood. And it’s very normal for children to act out sometimes, to say things in anger, to be difficult. It’s all a part of growing up.
The good thing is that it’s easy to see from your reaction to what she told you that she did an amazing job and you’re well on your way to becoming a great person she will be proud of. Take all of this and let it strengthen those good qualities. Do your best for her and yourself but don’t beat yourself up for past mistakes you can’t change. You don’t need to repay her for the choices she made, you just need to live a life that makes you both happy.
OOP: Thank you for the advice ❤️ I'll definitely try my best to feel proud of myself and also make her happy

Mini Update: May 12, 2024
I've literally been tearing up from all the comments and messages from everyone. I am honestly so grateful for all the kind words and reassurance. Genuinely thanks so much ❤️
Not much of an update really but I thought I would still share. I took a few pieces of advice and have done them randomly during day. Firstly Happy Mother's Day everyone. Hope you had a great time. Me and my mom had a few things planned for today and I got back just over an hour ago now. We went to the cinema then a restaurant and ended the day with bowling. Honestly had an absolute blast and she was happy throughout. I got her a gift too, it was a photo engraved bracelet which I gave her at the end of bowling.
One advice I got was saying things that show her I care about her so I said "Your the best" and hugged her after the cinema. I also said "I love you" when giving her the bracelet which made her cry 😭
I still do feel the guilt but I'm not gonna let it get me down. Don't want more stress especially with exams coming up 😅 I saw a lot of comments mentioning that I shouldn't keep my feelings bottled up so I am planning on conveying all my feelings to her soon. I'll probably write a letter because I know I'll probably start crying before I even start speaking 😂 I think that will definitely give me some peace of mind. Thanks all again for taking the time to read this ❤️
(Also I completely forgot how biology works in my last post 😅 She would be my half-sister not sister since I doubt our father's were the same. But regardless I'm still going to call her mom 😁)
