This is a discussion forum about Greendot prepaid debit cards and the stimulus payments. Many people have not got their payments yet this is a forum to find out why. Please do not post any personal information such as debit card numbers, phone numbers or addresses. This is just a discussion forum on who is having issues with greendot prepaid cards. I have no affiliation with the Greendot Bank nor do I work for them. This forum is not owned or ran by Greendot in any way.

2024.05.15 20:05 Messigoat3 How secure/safe is Wealthfront’s banking partner(s)?

I come today as a Wealthfront user as well as three other online bank services and I’d like to know which ones are the safest to put my money in as one of them has just collapsed. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to state other banks in this suburb so I will refrain from saying which bank’s ACH shut down, but they currently do not allow ACH transfers in or out as well as debit card transactions. This Bank also did something similar to Wealthfront where they aren’t actually a bank, but they are an online service that uses other third party banks as their bank to hold customer funds. This made me question how safe is our money really worth in Wealthfront and how secure Greendot Bank really is financially. My trust in online banking not the big 5 is quickly waning and I am very concerned. Is anyone else? I know the rebuttal to this concern will be if I have $1,000 in Wealthfront, not to worry since multiple others have millions in theirs. The issue with this is, when stuff hits the fan, I do not care about others’ money, I care about mine.

2024.04.29 17:44 craniumslows Notification of Large Purchases?

I've been a Wealthfront customer for several years and opened a cash account in February. I have activated but not used my debit card, and plan to use it to put down 6k on a car I'm buying. Is there a phone number I need to call or way to let GreenDot know so that it doesn't flag for fraud ?
In the past I've just done an ACH to my daily checking account and then used that, but with the high APY and a debit card option I wanted to give this a shot.
Thank you for your help! (I tried searching about this and while there are discussions on debit card and cash accounts I didnt see this specific limits discussion. If I missed it please link me there! Thank you)

2024.04.27 01:14 AriaUndertheSun Questions from a newbie before making a cash account

Planning to open a cash account and finally get a HYSA set up. Haven't opened an account yet but had a few questions before doing so. Sorry in advance if they've been answered or they're a little silly.
  1. Is there a way to set some of the money as unavailable for use for the debit card? I never use a debit card to purchase but in case mine gets stolen it'd be nice if thieves can't drain my account. I saw there were categories but wasn't sure if this actually blocked off money from being used
  2. If there is fraud, what is the timeframe of disputing the charge? Is it like a debit card in general so a few days? Can I set up alerts for any cash flow so I don't have to actually log into my account very regularly?
  3. I'm old school--just wanted to ensure this is a very workable setup that I don't need to install an app to monitor (and can use browser only) since I don't plan to check it regularly. I'll keep my current checking acct at a bank with physical locations.
  4. The company allocates the money we put in under partner banks to get FDIC coverage. Do the companies also create an account under us/get any of our info? Or is it just GreenDot (or is that just related to the debit card)?? Just wanted to know in case there are more cybersecurity issues with banks and when I need to actually check if I am affected (since I wouldn't know where wealthfront allocates my money anyway right?)

2024.04.23 21:05 SeiderMill Draft Week - Welcome To Detroit, A Local's Guide

Hi all,
Excited to have all of you come visit the place I call home this weekend for the draft, and to show you that everything you may have heard about the place is wrong. I've called this city home for the past decade, and have a fierce pride, love, and loyalty to it.
I noticed that NFL didn't have any posts for those coming to visit the city this weekend, and that while there are lots of articles being published for those visiting - everyone is telling you to get a coney, and yes those are good - many of my favorite places that make this place so special are not represented.
I spoke with the mods and have made this post to help out those visiting. I'll be providing a few of my local favorites, but would love to answer every question visitors have on places to see and things to do.
Just remember when you get back home - say nice things about Detroit

2024.04.10 21:31 work_harder0 Synchrony Bank account restricted with transfer from Wealthfront (Greendot)

TL;DR - Some banks don't play nice with wealthfront/Greendot cash account. Make sure you're careful and pick a bank thats consistently worked with them for transfers when moving large funds.
I've just had a really weird experience over the last week where when I transferred some of my funds from Wealthfront (Greendot) cash account to Synchrony, and then my Synchrony HYSA became restricted.
At first calling Synchrony they said they needed to verify personal ownership of my Greendot bank account, which I think is possible since wealthfront opens the account in your name (I think). However, when we finally got a Greendot bank rep on the call (which took several days and support number changes), they couldn't verify my bank account number and kept asking for a card number (they didn't specify which card, maybe debit?), which was frustrating. Calling back to Synchrony to try again with a Greendot support member from maybe a different department and now the Synchrony rep says they don't like Greendot bank in general since they deal with prepaid cards (and I guess are a bit more shady) and if I want to get unrestricted I need to unlink the account and wait several days for review... which I just did.
This is really weird since I've transferred funds for 6+ months between synchrony and Greendot, and this just started being an issue this month. Either way, Greendot support was pretty awful in trying to understand the situation and I'm not sure how aware their support is of the wealthfront relationship. Just a tale of caution that some banks don't play nice with wealthfront/Greendot, and I'd be really mad/scared if it was a large transfer and I had money tied up for several weeks (it's been about 2 weeks already)! To be fair this is the first actual issue I've experienced with my cash account in about 6 months of having it open. Everything else has been great.

2024.04.05 20:18 xenophons_ghost TaxSlayer Greendot -- BEWARE

I don't know if anyone else has had this issue but when I was filing my return the site asked me if I wanted to get a GreenDot card. I chose my bank account instead as I have done for the past few years. They sent me GreenDot anyway, and my return was deposited there.
So I call them up, and I explain to them that I didn't choose this, and the rep on the phone tells me that that because I activated my GreenDot card to ensure the return was deposited there it erased my bank acct info from the system and there's nothing they can do.
So now I'm stuck with this crappy pre-paid card that I MIGHT be able to use to pay off my Amex card but won't be able to use to pay off my Chase Sapphire, and I can't transfer money to any bank acct according to the GreenDot help site. I will never be using TaxSlayer again.

2024.03.25 01:15 Next_Dragonfruit8278 I got a question

So I found out by my transcripts that they sent the 2021 stimulus payment which I didn’t even think I qualified for so never went and filed out for it bc I had no income in 2020 so it was sent to a closed/old account apparently bc we never got it. They just sent it to the old account they had on file from 2020 What can I do now about it? Anything? I will be telling them about it when I go in person to verify but I feel like there nothing I can do to get that $2800 bc it’s been 3 years 🙄 it says you can claim it up to 2025 but how can I prove we never got it? I’m assuming it probably was just sent back to irs bc the account was closed I’d assume after us not using it for almost 2 years idk I’m thinking we may be screwed on that one. Bad thing is I have no idea what account it was bc it was one of the greendot cards I believe it was a card we got just for the stimulus checks in 2020

2024.03.18 12:25 Dacxi 20 Financing Options For Small Business Owners To Consider This Year

20 Financing Options For Small Business Owners To Consider This Year

Source: Forbes
Small business owners often need to secure financing to capitalize on growth opportunities. From commercial loans and lines of credit to grant programs, there are a variety of financing options available to small business owners, each with its advantages and considerations.
Choosing the right financing option for you can directly impact strategic growth and propel your businesses forward. To help you make this decision, Forbes Finance Council members share different financing options for small business owners to consider implementing in 2024.

1. Revenue-Based Financing

Consider revenue-based financing, sometimes known as a merchant cash advance (MCA). It can be a great flexible option for small businesses to get fast funding. The business receives a lump-sum payment in exchange for a portion of future sales. The funder will collect a percentage of either weekly or monthly sales, through all revenue streams (including credit cards, checks, wires, cash and ACHs). — Lawrence Pross, Nexi

2. Asset-Based Lenders

If your commercial lender isn’t the right option for inventory and AR financing, another option would be an asset-based lender (ABL). Start with a commercial bank ABL. They will loan against receivables without covenants and are less restrictive than a normal bank line, and more restrictive than a non-bank ABL. A non-bank ABL is another option that is more aggressive because they are not regulated. — Alan Chaffee, Turning Point Strategic Advisors

3. Business Bank Accounts

If you don’t have a business bank account, that’s a good place to start. Based on my industry knowledge, approximately 70% of small business owners without a business bank account are rejected for loans. Taking this important step could help secure the capital infusion you need to keep your business afloat or help you invest and grow your business this year. — George Gresham, Green Dot Corporation

4. Intra-Family Loans

How about the “Bank of Family?” An intra-family loan is a popular estate planning vehicle and I have seen it applied in this context as well. The parent or lender would need to charge a minimum interest rate without incurring gift tax issues, and if structured properly, it can provide advantages over other lending options in terms of better interest rates and more flexible credit eligibility. — Alvina Lo, Wilmington Trust

5. Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is often overlooked by small business owners despite, its success in tech. In today’s tough economy, with tech startups failing and diminished investor risk appetite, businesses with steady incomes and low risks are more attractive. Crowdfunding offers such businesses a viable financing option, tapping into a broader base of potential supporters. — Chanchal Bhoorani, WestBridge Capital

6. Equity Partners

Small businesses should look for financing sources other than banks in the current market. Since credit has become more difficult, alternatives such as an equity partner or crowdfunding are feasible options. These choices not only offer needed capital but also add strategic expertise. Small businesses should compare the advantages of equity versus debt to make decisions that fit their long-term goals. — Chris Seveney, 7e investments

7. Appealing Property Taxes

Appealing property taxes can potentially provide significant savings for small business owners. By appealing property taxes, small business owners can potentially free up additional funds that can be reinvested back into their businesses for growth initiatives. It’s an often overlooked but potentially lucrative option for financing growth in the new year. — Wes Nichols, Paramount Property Tax Appeal

8. Grants And Government Funding

In the ever-evolving market environment, small business owners have a variety of financing options to consider when deciding to support their growth aspirations. Here are some options — besides simply taking out a loan — that entrepreneurs may find useful: business lines of credit, grants and government programs, venture capital, angel investors, peer-to-peer lending and crowdfunding. — Mike Zaino, The Zaino Group

9. Equity Crowdfunding

Equity crowdfunding has emerged as a viable financing option for small business owners seeking to capitalize on growth opportunities without taking on debt. This method allows entrepreneurs to raise capital directly from a broad audience of investors through online platforms, offering them equity in return for their investment while building a community of supporters invested in their success. — Peter Goldstein, Exchange Listing LLC

2024.03.10 01:49 Reasonable_Benefit58 Wealthfront Cash Account Incident

I started using wealthfront (wf) as suggested by my good friend and enjoyed the 5.5% interest earned daily until the show had lasted...
Since I was very happy with using wf cash account I transferred more funds there and ultimately wanted to use as my bank account as wf provides you with a debit card that works on many atms nearby that sounds quite enticing and this is exactly where the drama started.
I called customer service to request a debit card. Please note that wf banking function is run by a partner named greendot (gd) which means I was actually talking to wf partner gd, not wf itself.
GD customer service agents (some) had really thick accents which was making me unable to understand what they were saying for example: they are saying country but the security question is actually asking "county" and their spelling when they are unable to pronounce words was also making me misunderstand the security questions. On the other hand, the connection with the gd phone number is on and off, I had multiple incidents where the connection got lost. Also the agents had background noises such as honking and other outside sounds which was making it quite difficult to understand what they were saying. I ended up failing to correctly answer security questions and the drama started.
At that time, the agent told me that my account is locked and I needed to send them documents for gd to verify my identity and until that time my account is locked which came in as a shock as they wanted me to send those from my personal email as they didn't have a secure platform for me to upload those documents. I ended up sending them the documents through email as I had no other choice to activate my account.
It took them a couple days to review my DL and they said they are not able to verify my identity and they said because of my transaction history (recurring transfers and one off transfers to the wf account only) therefore they were blocking/freezing the account further and they would send me a check within the next 60 business days for the balance that I have in my account. At that time I got really upset not only because of the many hours that I wasted on the phone with utmost frustration but all my saving were blocked for reasons that made no sense and I would have to wait for my check to retrieve my money. They give no explanation what happened and keep repeating reading a text that they have blocked my account.
To be honest, I only wanted to have a debit card that's why I called but unfortunately I had the WORST banking relation in my life as a person who had banking relations in multiple countries and never had such a disappointing, infuriating experience because customer service lacks communication skills, unable to articulate situations and have no practical thinking to solve problems. Calling in to get a debit card but having all your funds blocked and have to wait for a check to get your savings for 60 business days.
Luckily, I was able to close my wf account (wf customer service helped me with shutting all down to retrieve the funds) and transferred my money back to my actual bank account. And funny enough I was getting emails from gd that they were able to verify my identity (after they sent me and email titled DECLINED bc they couldn't verify and told me on the phone that I can only wait for my check there's nothing else they could do) and my debit card was on the way..
I think it's a good idea for wf to look into the customer service experience through gd as it was a horrible nightmare lasted 3 days, felt extremely unprofessional, arbitrary unstructured decision making by agents, wasted many hours on the phone, just to get back to square one. Most horrifying, weird, no sense banking experience ever..

2024.03.05 23:25 badwolfchic Aco short

Okay so I'm going to explain this the best way I can . Our Aco is short $200. Apparently Someone bought a green dot card for 200 with cash. It didnt activate so they got a refund the 200 back. The system didn't update and it's still showing its short days later. Hope I explained it well
UPDATE It was a Greendot card for 162. I counted everything and it's still short. I think that's the reason why. Because it's at 614+162=776 plus the 26 in change

Be careful when googling numbers for an attorney. I was recommended to retain the lawyer Richard Kuritz. Shortly after I reached an agreement seeking his legal defense. 2024.02.27 13:34 Kentuckycrusader Don't ever buy a greendot visa from Walmart!!!!!

First off let's start by saying that this hole endeavor has cost me more time than I cared to mention. About a week ago I was in line at Walmart and got this idea that I would buy a prepaid card to pay my bills online because I get a discount if I use a debit card. Thinking of how convenient that would be and just seeing the dollar signs from all the money that I would save, I loaded $165 on a Green Dot money card Visa from Walmart. The moment I got home and installed the app, the whole registration was clear as mud. Once I finally figured out how to "activate my card" and not create an account, I was met with " we are unable to retrieve your card details please try again later" And it's not like I'm entering them incorrectly I know the card numbers by the back of my hand now from trying to enter it and register it several times. This card just will not register!! I have called their customer service so many times and asked for a refund or for a manual way to register my card so I can PAY MY BILLS. No help, no offer of a refund. No one can reverse the transaction and give me my money back. The terms and conditions say if the money is onthe card over 90 days and hasn't been activated then GREENDOT gets to keep MY money, after holding it hostage and not allowing me to access it. These cards are nothing more than a bold-faced scam!!! Do NOT buy these Visa greendot money cards. They won't help you, the refuse to activate your card or refund your money. This has been going on for over a week without any access to the funds I loaded to the card. I don't have all kinds of money to play with and I'm a single father taking care of a 5-year-old autistic child. This is THE LAST thing I need on my plate is someone stealing my money and not allowing me access to it. It's BS and I'll never buy one of these cards again. Ever, period. Thieves and con artists. There is absolutely no way there website/ app has been down over a week!!! They are literally just hoping that I cut my losses and forget about it. Not gonna happen!!!!

2024.02.27 04:25 elliwigy1 Greendot Recovery Scammer Beware

Greendot Recovery Scammer Beware
I know, I am an idiot for falling for this scam. For someone like myself (and many many others in America right now) however, that lives paycheck to paycheck, having hard earned money be "frozen" you often act spontaneously and do things you wouldn't normally do. In this case, put trust in a random Redditor with the hopes of gaining access to your funds so you can pay your bills & rent only to end up further in the hole.
My first mistake was opening a Greendot account. I went into a 3rd party financial institution to open a Greendot account because the prepaid account I had used for years was discontinuing their services. My ID has my old address on it. I told the lady this, she asked for my current address which I provided to her. I deposited over $1600 into the account and changed my direct deposit from work to the new account.
When I went to use my card online the first time I entered my info and the card was declined. I thought that was odd. When I logged into the app and checked my address (having a feeling that was the problem), I noticed she entered my old address. To top it off, she entered the wrong zip code (it is 85015 and she entered 85014.)
I went into the same store a few days later to update my address. The person called Greendot over the phone and entered my new address. I got an email with a case number for a card replacement saying I needed to verify my identity by sending the a picture of my ID front and back and a picture of a bill with my current address. I asked the person in the store if I would still be able to use my card and he said yes. As soon as I left the store I went to use my card, it was declined. I figured I just needed to send the docs in. I sent the docs in and minutes later got an email back saying my docs were denied and my account was permanently closed. After countless hours on the phone and even in the store, no one could help me and basically told me that I have to wait 60 days before my account is then reviewed and if I am eligible I will get a refund check in the mail with my balance.
Greendot is a terrible business fyi, but that is a whole other story.
Of course, my bills wont wait 60 days for Greendot to send me my money. I currently had my auto insurance cancel, internet is at risk (I work from home so this is essential), as well as it has impacted my direct deposit that was going in there as well among other things.
Desparate, I began searching for others experiencing these issues to see if there was anything I could do to get access to my money. This is when I came across the GreenDotBank sub. The only moderator in that group claimed to be able to re-open closed accounts for Greendot and their other partner services (Go2Bank, WalmartMoneyCard etc.). I looked around and didnt see any negative comments and thought I would message him to inquire. He seemed very straight forward. He posted lots of screenshots in the sub that made it appear as though he had helped multiple people successfully.
He explained he had an inside person on their account resolutions team that would essentially go in and restore the services manually. Since I really needed the money off my account, I made the decision to trust him. Bad mistake.
He said that he would charge $350. $250 up front and $100 after it is done. He said that the $250 was for the inside person and $100 was his fee. I asked if could pay after and was told no since his inside source won't do anything without their $250 up front and everyone he has helped has paid up front. I told him I needed some time to sell an item so I could get the money to pay the $250. I sold an old phone for $400, well under what I should have to get a quick sale. I sent him $250 as bitcoin on Cash App. He texted me from a phone number and asked me to message him on Reddit so he knows it was me so I did. I sent him proof of payment and whatever other details he needed. This was on a Thursday.
He said by that time the next day my account would be unblocked. It wasn't. He then said he did advise it could take 24-48hrs. I said he did but he also said it would be unblocked the next day and it wasnt. This was on Friday.
Saturday I woke up to a missed call from Greendot who left a vm and said to call their 800 number and gave me a new case number. I tried calling back but got nowhere and was eventually told by the automated system that the dept. I needed to speak to was closed on the weekends. At the time I didnt know it but the case that was created was from me reporting Greendot to the BBB. I told him about this call however and he said that means there is progress and his source was working on it. He said my account would be unblocked by the end of the day Saturday and at the latest my card would be working by Monday.
Come Monday (today) my account is still closed. I call Greendot numerous times getting nowhere and eventually find out that the case had nothing to do with the person supposedly recovering my account at all. I message him and text him and no response. I try reaching out multiple times and no response. I then get a mesaage saying I am permanently banned from the sub. I message him again angrily and he finally responds saying he didnt ban me and he was just reading my messages. I then start asking about my account and of course he ghosts me again.
I understand this was my stupidity. I was even willing to avoid posting or bringing his fraud/scams to the masses if he would just admit that he scammed me but he was too cowardice to even do that so here I am. I am stuck with still not being able to access my money as well as down another $250 and my livelihood is being impacted.
It wasn't until after I sent payment when browsing the sub that I didn't see any comments saying anything negative, but also didn't see any saying he successfully helped them either despite some people asking. It then dawned on me that he is the moderator of the sub so he has ultimate control on what comments are there or not there and likely banned everyone he has scammed and deleted any comments they would have posted calling him out.
Long story short, if it sounds too good to be true then it likely is and don't fall for it like I did.

2024.02.23 18:45 iAmBoredTonight Amazon Flex Debit Card is trash

Since last night every transaction is being declined even though funds are available and the card is not locked. This is the second time this year this has happened. I made the mistake of using this as my primary bank for the cash back. Changed my pin on the app. Locked the card. Unlocked the card. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Contacted support which of course did not find anything wrong. They opened a ticket and I have to wait for 2 business days for resolution. Fuck GreenDot bank

2024.02.09 04:40 markdworthenpsyd Goodbye QuickBooks

I cancelled my QuickBooks subscription for several reasons but mainly because I do not trust the Intuit QB team. The prime example: In the midst of serious ongoing Green Dot Bank problems QB has launched a huge—and misleading—advertising campaign promoting QuickBooks Checking and QuickBooks Money.
It's a shame b/c in my experience other Intuit products are great: TurboTax is one of the best in terms of usability and UX overall, and I've been a satisfied Quicken customer for decades. [Edit: Intuit does not own Quicken.]
I wrote on the QB Community forum:
Leaving QuickBooks due to Green Dot Bank problems
There is a lot I like about QuickBooks, but I have lost trust in the company (Intuit) because of their heavy promotion of QuickBooks Checking and QuickBooks Money in the midst of chronic Green Dot Bank problems.
A company with integrity would get rid of Green Dot Bank and partner with an ethical company before launching a massive advertising campaign. Intuit did not do that.
This lack of integrity on Intuit's part is especially galling because these two products (QB Checking & QB Money) specifically target very small business owners: "QuickBooks Money is designed to help millions of solopreneurs get paid and manage their money end-to-end."
Intuit accurately discerned solopreneurs need for a banking solution tailored to their unique situation. It feels exploitive to this solopreneur.

2024.01.24 03:01 Akirasmommy My greendot account being weird!

So, I bought this green dot prepaid debit card but the thing is that I am not an US citizen and I didn’t knew I needed a SSN to activate it. I bought and put 500$ in it and when I downloaded the app I found out I needed the SSN. Anyways, I have an international business and I have an EIN number in the US (employer identification number) and since it is a 9 digit tax number I used it to activate my greendot account. Finally I activated it, I used the card but the thing is that I can’t log into my account in the app but only in the web page. And the web page doesn’t give you the option of recharging the card. Anyone knows why my app is not logging me in.
