Biogeography is the study of the distribution of species and ecosystems in geographic space and through geological time. Knowledge of spatial variation in the numbers and types of organisms is as vital to us today as it was to our early human ancestors, as we adapt to heterogeneous but geographically predictable environments.

2024.05.21 20:38 RetroSwamp Has Anyone Made Any Abiotic Factor Lore Videos?

Hello, fellow science team,
I come to ask a simple question, I usually put on game lore videos when I work from home and wanted to dive a bit more into Abiotic Factor lore but I feel no one has taken the time to do a lore video about the game and universe.
Does anyone know of some being made or are out yet?

2024.05.20 02:04 PM_ME_YOUR_QT_CATS Easier way to manipulate stacks?

In other games it is very easy to split a stack in half or only grab one item from a stack, but in abiotic factor it is a pain involving multiple clicks to grab 1 item from a stack.
Also the repair bench needs an upgrade to automatically grab repair mats from nearby chests.

Yeah, it was a lonely week again, and the mood was depressing. The Week, The Depression and the Comics Part 55
Somehow none of us had time for each other, especially because work and other shit didn't let me and my friends meet up. I mostly played video games anyway, the Bridge curse 2, Abiotic Factor, Farthest Frontier and No Rest for the wicked. But mostly I read how to see it or watched TV. But hey, my cat stays with good company.
But otherwise I'm also worried financially again. Rents are going up again in my area, shitty gentrification. It's kind of ironic that a bunch of privileged students move into your block to act cool and rebellious because they're not like the proles, but by doing so they're hurting those who are below them. And when you tell them that you're not the same, they get really angry. I mean my ex-boyfriends, who I'm just friends with now, once told me that the middle class loved to shout when they were the victims of the problem of capitalism, but often they are not interested in alternatives or at least looking for those Especially since they also like to involuntarily hit people who are below them. If it was at least involuntary, supposedly.
And otherwise my account at 2000AD won't work again, which is why you unfortunately not seeing any British comics here this week. But I'm trying to fix it because I love these British comics. And otherwise I'll try to further refine my cooking skills.
Well, I'm trying to get more sleep. My cat is really the best antidepressant in this case and in the end always keep it in front of your eyes, At some point the sun will shine again, and if not there are other light sources.

2024.05.19 21:24 RichRuzz 36 EST looking for PC gaming friends

Hey there, I’ve posted here on/off before to some moderate success over the years and found some chill people and now looking to build some more. (Hopefully!)
I have a TON of PC games being like 1k+ on Steam alone, and just generally looking for solid game suggestions, or others to play with at times or fun co-op or competitive experiences.
I’ve recently been playing Star Citizen and a bunch of other things, but always down to start up a Stardew Valley game, Phasmo/Forewarned/Escape the Backrooms, Golf with your friends, or Grounded, Abiotic Factor, DayZ, FO76, Helldivers 2, really just depends since I have soooo many games and I pretty much play everything from racing, to simulation, adventure, RPG, competitive and all the in-between.
Only caveat is I’m like pretty deep in on/off surgery on my hands/elbows/shoulder and some other things so it’s hit and miss on my pain levels and surgeries I’m bouncing between for some sports injury and life stuff.
Anyways if any questions, or suggestions, or have inquiries about games I have feel free to stalk my list at RichRuzz on Steam, or add me on Discord at the same (RichRuzz)

2024.05.19 03:18 xI3loodEaglex Criminally underrated

As the title suggests this feels criminal how many people are playing Abiotic Factor. It's all but on par with something like Marauders as far as player base to how imaginative and innovative the game is for the formula and genre of game.
I mean just look at the number of people on the sub I need everyone to know about this game and to play it lol. My friends and I are just mind boggled as to why there aren't 5-10 times more people practicing science out there in the cascade facility. I truly love this game the last game that held me like this in the "God I wish I was playing x game" was Valheim and it got its roses.
TLDR; more people need to know how good this game is... And I need more of it ASAP 😂

2024.05.18 21:38 cmnrdt Games that incentivize multiple base camps and/or outposts?

Most base-building and survival type games expect you to have a primary base that has all of your stuff and that acts as the central hub of activity, usually making it a huge pain to relocate. And they are usually very forgiving in that you can either prepare in advance for going on expeditions or forage somewhat in the environment.
But lately I've had an itch that I think can only be scratched by a game that is vast and varied, and requires a lot of traveling back and forth between biomes, to where it makes sense to build satellite locations. Places where maybe you don't need all the advanced stuff you have at the main base, but having a place to rest, resupply, or engage in a bit of infrastructure means not having to travel all the way back to your origin.
I've played a number of games where there's technically the option to have multiple bases but never any gameplay aspect that requires it. Subnautica, but the submersibles are fast and provide plenty of utility on their own. Enshrouded, but with each base allowing fast travel there's no point in decentralization. Abiotic Factor comes close, but since your base is centered around your workbench and the workbench provides a rough safe zone with no enemy spawns, satellite locations are prone to attack when you're not around.
Oddly enough, one comparison I'm tempted to make is Dead Space 3, on the section where you have to traverse the surface of Tau Volantis with a malfunctioning helmet, forcing you to take shelter in warm areas stationed along the path. There's also Death Stranding (which I haven't played) with the emphasis on building roads, ziplines, and other things to make going across the map less cumbersome as time goes on.
Something like a solo colony sim, where you can venture out to a resource vein, mine something, store it locally, then load it up on your main transport to take back to your main base. Perhaps later on you can automate the process so that you only have to stop by to pick up the resources, take a nap in your shelter, and drive back. Or something like having to build a geothermal plant in a volcanic area that you can then connect to a pipeline that sends power to your other bases.
Any games like that?

2024.05.17 11:51 AlexSFeather Achievements no longer popping up as notification

So recently i noticed that the achievements i earn in games are no longer popping up as notification nor producing a sound while i am in game. I have both my steam overlay and notifications enabled but i am still receiving only notifications about messages and invites not achievements.
The issue seems to persist over all games i have been playing recently: Abiotic Factor, Sun Haven, Tiny Tina's Wonderland. I have to manually check for the achievements i earned instead of being notified when i actually earn them.
This started happening not too long ago so i am assuming the cause of this glitch/bug is one of the steam updates. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated

Hawaii, the "Aloha State," beckons travelers with its breathtaking landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and vibrant culture. From the volcanic peaks of the Big Island to the world-famous surfing beaches of Oahu, Hawaii offers something for every adventurer. This ultimate Hawaii travel guide, designed for 2024, will equip you with the knowledge and insider tips to plan an unforgettable trip, allowing you to explore the best beaches, delve into the lush rainforests, and experience the unique spirit of Aloha.

The Ultimate Hawaii Travel Guide: Explore Stunning Beaches, Lush Jungles, and Volcanic Wonders: Choosing Your Hawaiian Adventure:

Hawaii is an archipelago comprised of six main islands, each with its own distinct personality:
  • Oahu: Nicknamed the "Gathering Place," Oahu offers a vibrant blend of city life (Honolulu), iconic landmarks (Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor), and stunning natural beauty (Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve). Perfect for first-time visitors and those seeking a taste of everything Hawaii has to offer.
  • Maui: The "Valley Isle" is known for its dramatic landscapes, from the dormant volcano Haleakala to the lush Iao Valley. Maui caters to a variety of interests, from world-class resorts and championship golf courses to secluded beaches and adventurous hiking trails.
  • Kauai: Nicknamed the "Garden Isle," Kauai boasts emerald rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Ideal for nature lovers and those seeking a more off-the-beaten-path experience.
  • The Big Island: This island is home to active volcanoes, including Kilauea, offering a glimpse into the raw power of nature. The Big Island also boasts diverse landscapes, from black sand beaches to snow-capped Mauna Kea.
  • Molokai: This island offers a more relaxed and secluded experience with pristine beaches, historic Kalaupapa National Historical Park, and abundant wildlife.
  • Lanai: The smallest of the six major islands, Lanai caters to luxury travelers with world-class resorts and championship golf courses.

Planning Your Hawaiian Escape:

  • When to Visit: Hawaii enjoys a tropical climate year-round with mild temperatures. The peak season is from December to April, with larger crowds and higher prices. Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (May-June and September-November) for pleasant weather and slightly lower costs.
  • Getting There: Flying is the primary mode of transportation to Hawaii. Numerous airlines offer direct flights from major cities around the world. Inter-island flights connect the various islands, allowing you to explore multiple destinations.
  • Getting Around: Rental cars offer the most flexibility for exploring each island at your own pace. Public transportation options are limited outside major cities. Consider purchasing a multi-island pass if hopping between islands.

Island Hopping or Staying Put?

Deciding whether to island hop or focus on one island depends on your travel style and timeframe:
  • Island Hopping: This is ideal for adventurous travelers who want to experience the distinct landscapes and cultures of each island. However, factor in travel time and additional costs associated with inter-island flights and accommodation changes.
  • Staying Put: Focusing on one island allows for a deeper exploration and immersion in the local culture. This is perfect for those with a limited timeframe or those who prefer a more relaxed pace.

Beyond the Beach: Unveiling Hawaii's Hidden Gems

While Hawaii is renowned for its stunning beaches, there's so much more to discover:
  • Volcanoes National Park (Big Island): Witness the raw power of nature at this UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can explore active volcanoes, volcanic landscapes, and unique ecosystems.
  • Road to Hana (Maui): Embark on this scenic coastal drive, winding through lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and charming towns, offering breathtaking views and opportunities for exploration.
  • Waimea Canyon (Kauai): Nicknamed the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," this dramatic canyon boasts colorful rock formations, hiking trails, and breathtaking panoramic views.
  • Iolani Palace (Oahu): Step back in time and explore the only official royal palace in the United States, offering a glimpse into Hawaiian history and culture.
  • Snorkeling & Diving: Hawaii boasts diverse marine life and pristine coral reefs. Explore vibrant underwater worlds teeming with colorful fish, coral formations, and even gentle giants like manta rays.

Experiencing the Aloha Spirit:

Embrace the "Aloha" spirit, the core values of hospitality, respect, and love that permeates Hawaiian culture. Here are some ways to connect:
  • Learn a Few Basic Hawaiian Words: Simple phrases like "Aloha" (hello/goodbye), "Mahalo" (thank you), and "A hui hou" (until we meet again) go a long way in showing respect for the local culture.
  • Support Local Businesses: Dine at local restaurants, shop at farmers' markets, and choose locally-owned accommodations. This helps support the Hawaiian community and keeps your travel dollars circulating within the islands.
  • Cultural Experiences: Attend a traditional luau, witness a hula performance, or participate in a cultural workshop. These experiences offer a deeper understanding of Hawaiian traditions and practices.
  • Respect the Land: Hawaii's natural beauty is a precious resource. Practice responsible tourism by respecting sacred sites, avoiding fragile ecosystems, and minimizing your environmental impact.

The Final Aloha: Creating Memories that Last a Lifetime

Hawaii beckons you with its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality. This ultimate Hawaii travel guide, designed for 2024, has equipped you with the knowledge and insider tips to plan an unforgettable adventure. Remember, the true essence of your Hawaiian experience lies in embracing the Aloha spirit, respecting the islands' natural beauty, and connecting with the local people. So pack your bags, embrace the spirit of adventure, and get ready to create memories that will last a lifetime in the paradise that is Hawaii. A hui hou (until we meet again)!

FAQs: Conquering Your Hawaiian Adventure

  • Is Hawaii expensive to visit? Hawaii can be expensive, especially during peak season. However, with careful planning and budgeting, you can experience the wonders of the islands without breaking the bank. Consider factors like accommodation choices, activity costs, and dining options.
  • What are some budget-friendly travel tips for Hawaii? Look for deals on flights and accommodations during the shoulder seasons. Opt for self-catering options or explore local restaurants outside of tourist areas. Consider purchasing a multi-island pass if hopping between islands. Utilize public transportation options where available.
  • What should I pack for a trip to Hawaii? Pack comfortable clothing for warm weather, including swimwear, light clothing, hats, and sunglasses. Hiking shoes are essential if you plan on exploring trails. Don't forget a light rain jacket as showers can occur, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Sunscreen and reef-safe sunscreen are crucial for protecting yourself and the environment.
  • Is Hawaii safe for solo travelers? Hawaii is generally considered a safe destination for solo travelers. However, always practice common sense precautions like being aware of your surroundings and keeping valuables secure.
