2019.08.29 18:49 lotusscissors [GAME WEEK DAY 4] Who's Who: Offense & ST

After yesterday's Who's Who: Defense, it's time to meet your offense! Again, 1st team from the preseason 2-deep.
Quarterback
8 Kenny Pickett, JR QB Oakhurst, NJ 6'2" 225 lbs
Oh, Kenny Pickett. The man who took us to soaring heights in 2017 in perhaps the greatest game I've yet attended. Last year's performance did not live up to the hype, to be frank. Kenny completed just 58% of his passes for 1969 yards, 12 TD's and 6 picks. Many are of the mind that he was hamstrung last season by a laundry list of issues: 1. Shawn Watson, whose play-calling put us at 113 out of 130 FBS teams ranked in passing attempts. 2. A sub-optimal offensive line that couldn't get it done in pass protection 3. Receiver apathy due to being left out of the offense, and the list could go on. With two of those three things addressed, and the third on the way, Kenny's window of opportunity has widened considerably. What about the man himself? Pickett was invited to the prestigious Manning Passing Academy, where he spent some one-on-one time with Peyton, and more with other notable college QB's. One of Kenny's biggest issues last season was his decision making, which his conversations with the elder Manning addressed. Kenny's approach to this season is to be more patient, and hopefully his Offensive Line affords him that opportunity. Kenny rolled into Training Camp this year up 8 lbs and cut as ever as well, so he brings sharper physical and mental tools this season. Let's see what he makes of it. I, for one, am excited. He is backed up by Redshirt Freshman 12 Nick Patti and Redshirt Senior 3 Jeff George Jr..
Runningback
21 A.J. Davis, JR RB Lakeland, FL 6'0" 215 lbs
Davis, a former 4* recruit, brings a familiar power running style back to the Panthers in 2019. Davis Has played in 18 games thus far, and last season ran for 134 yards on 32 carries (4.2 ypc) with 3 catches for 17 yards. Davis has been the favorite to be the de-facto "starter" but, as we learned last year, we don't necessarily need 1 "main back." He shares an OR with:
23 Todd Sibley Jr., RS SO RB Akron, OH 5'9" 220 lbs
Sibley is large for his height, but still has excellent speed. Coach Powell remarked that he's the fastest back on the team during training camp, including V'Lique Carter. Who knows how true that is, but it seems to indicate that the former 4* recruit will impress with some jets this season. Sibley has played in 7 games, with 1 rushing attempt. Look for the tag-team of Davis and Sibley to make some moves on the field this year.
Wide Reciever
11 Taysir Mack, RS JR WR Brooklyn, NY 6'2" 205 lbs
In an offense light on passing, Taysir Mack was one of the few who was still able to get some impressive numbers last season. Mack totaled 25 catches for a team-high 557 yards (oof) with a 22.3 avg. That's an insane number. Can he replicate that this year? Signs point to no, but it's certainly an indication of play-making ability. He's a large receiver, so you'll see him doing some blocking as well. He's backed up by Senior 6 Aaron Mathews.
5 Tre Tipton RS SR WR Apollo, PA 6'0" 185 lbs
Tipton is the technician of our receiver corps. He's always been praised for his route-running - which he credits to being a "thief", that is, watching other successful receivers and learning from them. He "still" watches Antonio Brown (as a local talent he's part of those who were burned by his move), as well as Juju and other NFL and college contemporaries. He has 27 games of experience, and hopes to make his final season with the Panthers memorable. He's backed up by Redshirt Sophomore 88 Dontavius Butler-Jenkins.
2 Maurice Ffrench, Captain SR WR New Brunswick, NJ 5'11" 200 lbs
Oh, Ffrench. The electric receivereturner who is one of 8 players in all of College Football this year to be placed on the Maxwell Award watch list, which is given to the best all-around player in the game. He has elite speed and shiftiness, and is praised by coaches and teammates alike for his ability to make things happen when he has the ball in his hands. His leadership ability earned him a spot as the offensive co-captain/special teams captain this season. Ffrench scored 10 TD's last season, by way of catch, rush, and return. A Phil Steele All-American (3rd team returner) and an honorable mention on the All-ACC team indicate that if he takes the next step, there could be big things on the horizon. He's backed up by Walk-on Redshirt Freshman 83 John Vardzel.
Tight-End
10 Will Gragg, RS SR TE Dumas, AR 6'4" 245 lbs
The former Razorback, who joined the team last season as a grad transfer with 2 years of eligibility, leads the depth chart at Tight-End this season. Gragg could be a full package at the hybrid spot, with both size and pass-catching ability. He joined Arkansas as a solid 4* recruit, and didn't see much playing time. He's an athlete that could be poised to put it all together this season. Mark Whipple is known for utilizing TE's in the passing game, so watch out for 10 this season. He is backed up by Redshirt Senior Rutgers Grad Transfer 86 Nakia Griffin-Stewart, another TE with abilities in both the passing and blocking departments, and an excellent blocking TE in the 6'7", 280 lb RS SO Grant Carrigan.
Offensive Line
77 Carter Warren, RS SO LT Paterson, NJ 6'5" 320 lbs
Carter Warren starts this season at Left Tackle, perhaps the most important position on the line after the Center for righty QB Kenny Pickett. Warren has been pushed through camp by his backup, redshirt sophomore 59 Carson Van Lynn, who played both tackle and tight end last season. Neither has seen the field as a lineman, so this game against UVA should be quite a test. With the talent on our defensive line, though, these two should be ready.
71 Bryce Hargrove, RS JR LG Akron, OH 6'4" 315 lbs
With Hargrove you have a bit more experience at Left Guard, with 15 games played and 3 starts after Morrissey went down last season. He was also the top lineman off the bench last season. Hargrove looks to use his experience to shore up the left side of the line. He is backed up by Redshirt Junior 56 Brandon Ford who, despite being a product of Upper St. Clair, is rocking a mustache and a bolo tie in his headshot. Style points definitely awarded.
67 Jimmy Morrissey, Captain RS JR OL Huntingdon Valley, PA 6'3" 305 lbs
I'm tired of calling this guy a former walk-on, but it's the truth. The 3rd team All-ACC Center for the 2018, your offensive co-captain for the 2019 season, and all-around awesome dude is back at Center for 2019. Morrissey and Pickett have shared a close bond since Pickett's first season. Morrissey's value was shown last year when he went down during the Coastal-clinching victory at Wake Forest, breaking a streak of 23 starts. He returns to command the OL as a well-respected, competitive player to build on his incredible performance in 2018. Glad to have you back, Jimmy. He's backed up by Redshirt Sophomore 60 Owen Drexel.
57 Gabe Houy, RS SO RG Pittsburgh, PA 6'6" 310 lbs
Another product of Upper St. Clair, the towering Houy brings 1 start and 6 total games of experience on the line. His lone start was at Right Tackle, where he spent the Spring, until he was pushed inside by transfer Nolan Ulizio. Houy was originally rated one of the top 2 OG prospects in PA, so his spot at guard should feel natural to him. With his experience, however, he has the ability to move outside if the situation calls for it. He is backed by both Redshirt Freshman 53 Jake Kradel, who is regarded as the top reserve based on what I've heard, and Redshirt Senior 55 Chase Brown.
70 Nolan Ulizio, RS SR RT West Chester, OH 6'5" 305 lbs
Michigan Grad Transfer Nolan Ulizio joins the Panthers at Right Tackle for the 2019 season. He played in 17 games for the Wolverines, with 5 starts at Offensive Tackle. We'll look for him to draw on his experience to help others on the line who don't have as much. He's backed up by Redshirt Sophomore 74 Jerry Drake Jr..
Special Teams
97 Alex Kessman, RS JR PK Clarkston, MI 6'3" 195 lbs
Kessman kicked for 13-of-17 FG (77%) and 40-of-42 PAT's (95%) last season with Pitt, with 4 field goals of 50-plus yards. His long ball is great, as he set the Heinz Field record for kicking distance (only just recently tied by Bucs kicker Matt Gay) at 55 yards. He's been working on his 30-40 yard range this season with new holder Kirk Christodoulou. Their relationship has developed nicely, and should be night and day from last season. His backup holder is QB Kenny Pickett. Backing up Kessman at kicker is true freshman 91 Sam Scarton.
98 Kirk Christodoulou, RS SO P Melbourne, Australia 6'1" 210 lbs
The Aussie rugby product returns for his second year as Pitt's punter. He had a rocky start to his redshirt freshman season, but added distance in most subsequent games, getting more and more consistent. He assumes holding duties with plenty of notice this season, unlike last year's Penn State game where he had 3 days of prep and a torrential downpour to deal with. He is backed up by true freshman 96 Jared Campbell.
94 Cal Adomitis, JR LS Pittsburgh, PA 6'1" 230 lbs
Last but not least is the longsnapper with the flowing locks himself, Cal Adomitis. He returns after starting all 26 games played since he joined the team as a true freshman in 2017. He is backed up by Redshirt Freshman 25 Jack Hansberry.
That's all for your players! 2 DAYS TIL GAME DAY!
Cheers, and H2P!
