2024.05.21 13:30 brianiceisnice I’m so mad, heartbroken, sad… I NEED to type this somewhere. IDGAF this my main Reddit account that I do EVERYTHING on… I just need to share this somewhere or my head’ll CAVE IN.

TL;DR - selfish asshole of an older brother scams me and my parents out of $200.
Okay, so I’m not doing too well financially, but I live with my Mom and Pops so we try to make ends meet. A couple weeks back we were in such rough shape financially, that I had to juggle three day jobs just to cover rent and suppress the collector’s from knocking on the door regarding our collective debts. We so broke I literally can’t even afford to sleep because in the night=I can get freelance work done. “I can sleep when I’m dead,” has become my full-time motto (unfortunately). Anyways, to try to bring some income in my household I offer services as a freelance video editor.
A while back, my older brother (who’s a career criminal and has flee’d multiple countries when authorities were after him for violent offences) hit me up and asked if I’d be down to edit for him. I was hesitant at first, being as last time I heard from him was after he beat our Mum to a pulp when I was only 12. For context bro or sis, whoever you are that is reading this: if I was only three years older I wouldn’t have let that slide—I would have mobbed his ass right then and there, pinned him down and done him so fucking dirty… IDGAF if my 15 year old ass had gone to juvie for it, I would do anything for my mother, including take a life. But instead, all that’s been imprinted in my brain is how much of a bitch I was at 12–cowering under the dining table as he took multiple shots with a shoe, at our crying helpless mother on the ground.
Anyways it’s been a few years, I’m 24 now and he gave me a big sob story how he has changed. I bought it up like the good little sheeple I am… started editing for him under the guise that he’d pay me $200 per video: SCORE! That’s a lot of money!!!
I got to know his business (shady as fuck) and got to find out he now dreams of being a finance influencer (double shady) but alas, he’s my big bro and no matter what wrong-doing he’s doing, he convinced me that he was a good man. Ight, bet, I’ma edit for him and make some money for the fam! In between his ‘takes’ of videos he sends me, I piece together that his “wife” films the videos, and he’s still an extremely abusive person. He tries not to let it show on camera, but I’m really good with people, emotions and hidden trauma so I can feel the sickening ‘abuser-of-people’ energy SEEPING off of him, still, to this day. I feel sick to my stomach editing for him, but shit, he’s promised me $200 per video. Over the course of a few weeks I can see why he never told us about his wife, it seems he keeps her pent up somewhere in Georgia, Batumi, and forces her to do whatever he wants. He once referred to her as “his slave” which I originally thought was A JOKE, but now in the grand scheme of things… I don’t think it was a joke. I pray that authorities get to them before he does something to her, but idek where to begin to put a ‘concerned citizen tip’ in a foreign country.
Some context as to why I put up with all the red flags: Mom’s not working as she has to take care of the house and she’s also trying to make money online, any ways possible. She’s starting to sell her favourite clothes. It fucking breaks my heart that I can’t do shit about it… at 24 years old, with all the social media influencing and advertising, I feel like garbage that I can’t fully support my parents… at least not yet! Dad is constantly depressed because he’s almost 80 years old and can’t retire ‘cuz my parent’s are in too much debt.
Okay, anyways, three BIG videos done for him (by big, I mean I spent +8 hours on each vid) and brother’s paid me for ONE via PayPal… no worries, he keeps leading me on saying the money will come, the money will come. And PayPal says I got $200 coming my way from him! Uhh ight, bet? Mind you, I start PLANNING my life around this $200 notification because that’s a hot stack for me and my family!!! Takes PayPal about 20 days to actually let me use the money… ridiculous because we NEEDED it… but that’s okay, I work around the problems in life, much like we all have to.
Here comes the turning point: I’m a little overworked and a little coo-coo sometimes, and one night I start telling him personal shit, kinda pouring out my heart to him, venting almost. I don’t really remember about what, just life I guess, nothing negative towards him. Somehow he misconstrues it, gets upset with me, and ‘tells me off.’ I get upset with him, tell him his business is a sham and I’ma change the rules that we agreed upon. Since his fake-ass can’t pay me what was agreed upon, (maybe $200 is a lot for him, as well) so I ask him if we can do $10 per hour instead. I pitch to him that moving forward, anytime I edit more than five hours ($50), I will refuse to edit until the money gets sent. The conversation turns hostile, QUICK. He calls me a ton of bad names with an underlying message that I’m the biggest loser on earth for pursuing a dream in working in Entertainment & he ends it with a sweet “you’ll never be anything.” LOL WHAT? Completely out of pocket and out of left field, so naturally, I tell him to eat shit, I won’t be doing anymore free work and he can pay me a mere $30 (yes, thirty dollars) for the entire portfolio of audios, texts/scripts, videos, and clips I’ve taken from the internet that ‘match’ the vibe he wants in his videos.
Context: at this point I’ve completed SIX FULL VIDEOS FOR THIS DUDE and he’s only paid me the one payment of $200. Not good at maths? Me neither, lemme help you out. He owes me $1,200 from our original agreement because I’ve spent more than 48 collective hours working on his videos, and he’s only paid me $200. But I tell him: I’ll let it all slide if he pays me $30 for the portfolio of about 50 gigabytes, and then moving forward, he’d pay me the $10 per hour if he wanted more content from me. He already has the six full videos in his possession. The ‘portfolio’ is stuff I’ve found that’s free-use on the internet, stuff that I’ve compiled, and even some scripts that I’ve written out! ALL MINE that I did for HIS business. So it seems logical for me to give this portfolio as an option, just incase he wants to say nah moving forward on me editing for him, and just take the material & go our separate ways…
In response, my (35 year old) brother files a complaint on PayPal claiming he only hired me for a channel encompassing trailer that I did not provide and that I’m attempting to extort him for more money. LOL, WHAT? PayPal’s like BET and automatically attempts to deduct from MY chequing account, without even getting to the bottom of it. Obviously doesn’t work, my account (not PayPal account, my fucking bank account. these mf so overzealous that they reached right into my mf pocket!!!!) gets put in the negatives and I attempt to appeal, with no sweat on my brow ‘cuz I’m like no way PayPal finna let this slide. I then proceed to message my terrible relative multiple times, with texts, videos and audio recordings and I’m in a hysterical mess. I begin threatening him, I begin begging to him, pleading with him, saying anything under the sun just for the hope that he has some heart and would send back the $200 if PayPal does end up taking it from me. Already my chequing was fricked but I could do some damage control… I was cocky, thinking PayPal would obviously side with me once they heard the whole story, so I also told him since he’s caused such pain for me out of absolutely nothing, like completely unprovoked, then shit: I want the original $200 PLUS an extra $200 for all this trauma. He responds by blocking me on everything. It’s 4 A.M. and I’m shaking as I’m typing this…
Somehow after all the information I provided, PayPal sides with him. Wow, wait, what? PayPal has since tried to deduct my PERSONAL CHEQUING ACCOUNT multiple times in order to fish back the $200 which I ALREADY HAD TO USE!!! Idk if you ever had a payment tried to be taken out of an account which already has a negative balance, but the payment doesn’t go (it does a minus then a plus) but usually the bank is like WTF and charges you fees. Multiple times = Multiple fees…
Before, I was in the negatives on my ONE chequing account I own… now I’m in the NEGATIVE-NEGATIVES… no clue how tf I’ma get out of it, but we all persevere eventually! I’ve reached out to PayPal but I’m almost sure nothing will come of it.. I’m considering taking PayPal to small claims court to somehow try to fix all this mess, but I fear it’ll break me off more trouble than repair anything. If you want to DM me, I’ll gladly give you my brother’s socials to send a report to his accounts on Instagram or TikTok, or even leave him a not-so-nice comment if you’d like. Also let me know if you know how I can get in contact with the authorities in the country of ‘Georgia.’
I have absolutely no issues posting his socials, address, doxxxing his ass to the fullest extent, all to do whatever’s necessary: because I fear he will one day gain notoriety and scam a shit ton of people. Praying that never happens.
Let me know what y’all think!!!

2024.05.21 13:29 vito666 Comfortable car, Europe

Hmm, where to start? For a long time, I've wanted to buy my first car with my own money. My budget is around €20,000, and I'm looking for a car in Europe, specifically in Romania. I've been considering the BMW F01 730d, Lexus LS600h(200k km), and Mercedes W221. However, the BMW and Mercedes models are primarily diesel cars, with 300k in odometer. As far as I know, diesel cars need to be driven long distances, such as on the autobahn, which does not fit my usage. I work remotely and plan to use the car for trips to the grocery store or nearby lakes/parks for walks. I anticipate driving about 5,000 to 7,000 km per year.
Recently, a 2009 Lexus RX450h (with Mark Levinson music, air suspension, side camera, and HUD) caught my attention. However, I'm hesitant due to its age and the 230,000 km on the odometer.
I once rented a BMW X6 G06 B58, my dream car, which is sadly out of my budget. I loved its technology, including the 360-degree cameras, large screen, and CarPlay. I also rented a Mercedes GLB 220d and was disappointed. The car had around 25,000 km and already had gearbox issues.
To summarize, I don’t need a sports car; I just want the most comfortable car possible, equipped with lots of technology (like Distronic, pre-crash safety systems, a 360-degree camera, and CarPlay) and reasonable reliability. I am okay with spending €2,000 to €3,000 per year on repairs.
P.S.: In Romania, there aren't many Toyota, Lexus, Kia, or Hyundai cars, and I’m unsure how their maintenance costs here compare to those of German cars.

2024.05.21 13:14 Creative_Beyond_8085 Wired (1989),one of the worst biopics of all time

Wired (1989),one of the worst biopics of all time
Oh boy does this movie haunt me. Michael Chiklis in his debut role plays John Belushi. We open with the star singing the blues number "I'm the King Bee" with the Killer Bees on Saturday Night Live in 1976. In March 1982, he is found dead via overdose and sent to the coroner's office. As night passes, a mysterious force wakes John up from the dead. Figuring out where he is, he screams out of the hospital, and is picked up by a taxi. The driver, Angel Velasquez, (the infamous Ray Sharkey) notices John and names a character he played; the character, a man who is a coke addict, is actually about him, and reveals himself to be John's guardian angel. He takes him to Chateau Marmont where he sees that he died the previous night. With Angel, John goes through his life and the mistakes he made when drugs interfered. In flashbacks, John meets Judy Jacklin before he forms the band The Ravens in the 1960s. In 1972, John is trained at The Second City to "make them laugh until it hurts." On the night before the airing of the first episode of Saturday Night Live, John gets Arnie Fromson (Alex Rocco, this hurt to see him here) to manage him, signing a contract. John becomes one of the biggest stars on the show, and meets Cathy Smith to experiment on drugs to improve his comedy. His popularity gets him a feature film role in National Lampoon's Animal House. Playing on the beach, John accidentally asks Judy to marry him, and she accepts. John goes into deep sleep after taking a shot, which leads his wife Judy, and friend and actor Dan Aykroyd, to wake him up and discuss how much money he is spending on cocaine. John and Dan’s friendship sparks the success of their singing duo, The Blues Brothers, leading to the feature film adaptation, where John takes large amounts of cocaine to get through the filming; despite Judy trying to help him control his usage, it leads into fights with director John Landis. The drug use gets him into arguments with Dan and Arnie, and ultimately Judy, so he decides to lay it off and get better during the filming of Continental Divide. However, the urge is too much for him and he returns to drug usage. In March 1982, with the help of Cathy Smith, John decides to try a different drug by injection: a speedball. Intercut within all of this, Judy talks to Bob Woodward (J.T Walsh,he hated this film and refused to talk about it after wards) about making a book all about John Belushi's life. At first he isn't sure about doing it, but then decides to go ahead. He interviews Judy, Arnie, and Cathy about their experiences with John, but Bob begins to focus more on why John wanted to go on drugs. Seen by John and Angel, John tries to get himself to talk to Bob. After talking with Dan, Bob heads to John's room at the Chateau Marmont where he tries to piece together the mindset of John's final night alive was like. John and Angel make a bet: if John wins a pinball game (on a pinball machine themed after The Blues Brothers), he'll live. Sadly he loses, but gets to talk to Bob before he ultimately passes on. Bob and John argue over the latter's drug usage, with Bob pointing out Judy being hurt by his actions, while John explains the pressure the film and television industries had put on him. When the time passes, John tells Bob to "breathe for him," just as he passes on in Bob's mind, leaving him speechless after learning of the ironic toxicity of the comedic environment. Audio of an interview with Cathy has her asked if the two ever had a sexual relationship, which she replies, "No, he loved his wife". The movie ends with John Belushi as Joe Cocker singing "You Are So Beautiful" on SNL as the title "Wired" forms over the scene. Yeah this goes down as one of the worst biopics ever. Michael Chiklis said he was black listed for 2 years before the commish brought him back. He doesn’t like to talk about it and later apologized to Belushi’s brother Jim about being here saying he was trying to pay the rent.

Hi there, I would appreciate some advice on renting from a private landlord as someone who is paranoid about scam.
I live in the UK and am moving to New Haven, CT in August to attend university for the semester. I need a short term place to stay and have found a room in an apartment through a website called Furnished Finder.
Green Flags:
Red Flags:
I know rule number one is to view the property in person but this is not an option for me. They're asking for half a month's rent as a refundable deposit ($700) and the first month's rent when I'm at the property. They suggested Zelle, Paypal, bank transfer, or wire transfer (absolutely not) to make the payment.
I suppose my questions are, how legit is this sounding? How can I protect my deposit in the case things go awry? In the UK we have a scheme for protecting rental deposits, but nothing similar exists in CT.
Appreciate your time!

2024.05.21 08:07 Comfortable_Pack8903 [Tenant- US- CA] Landlord keeps opening the bathroom window because of musty smell and mildew

In the past 3 or 4 days the landlord has been coming in the bathroom designated for my roommate and I. We share a house with the landlord and rent respective rooms. He keeps coming in and opening the bathroom window all the way. I talked to him in person about it and he says it smells musty and there's too much moisture in there. We have a fan in the ceiling that activates when the light gets turned on. I don't really smell anything or see much moisture. Last night I threw out a mop and I put a few air fresheners out. I also cleaned the bathroom, washed the rugs, and towel that were in there today. Apparently this didn't help anything because he keeps coming in there and opening the window. The window is right next to the front door and in view of the front yard. It makes it very uncomfortable to have it open because everyone is coming in and out of the house at all times of the day. It also lets all kinds of bugs in that can get through the screen. I talked to the landlord about getting something to absorb the moisture. He said to save my money and just open the window. He said if it is left open for a day the smell will go away for a day and then come back the next. I just don't get why all of a sudden this is a problem and he feels the need to come in and meddle with the window. It feels very invasive to me that he keeps coming in there. Even when I close the door. I have no way of locking the bathroom from the outside only from the inside. It just sounds like a problem that can't just be fixed by leaving the window open. I shouldn't have to keep closing it every time I want to take a shit, piss, or use the shower. I tried talking to other people about this and posted on Facebook. Some people were siding with the landlord saying he is in the right, to comply with him, etc. He never spoke to my roommate and I about it. He never sent out a text. He just took it upon himself to open the window without saying why. I feel like if he's that concerned about possible damage to the house from mold he should say so. He never said "hey guys somehing smells funky in there you better go check it out." I don't know what to do. I tried talking to him and he just seems set in his ways about it. I tried remedying the situation and he wants to keep opening the window. I left it open just a crack but he wants it open all the way. I know it may seem pretty minor to you but if you had a landlord coming into your personal space and opening a window I think you would be mad too. Especially when they didn't say anything to you before and they keep insisting that it stays open.

2024.05.21 07:53 edisonpioneer No Air Conditioning in newly moved-in under-construction condo

I recently moved into a new under-construction condo. Only 6 floors have been completed until now and people have started moving into these 6 floors. On 7th May, I told them the thermostat is not working, and they responded that there is an issue with the Air Conditioning, and we will know in a week what is happening. Today, the Victoria day long weekend has come to an end and Tuesday has already started. I was sweating through the weekend and could not sleep or work. Even the AC in the common areas is not activated and it's so hot.
My lease agreement says that AC is covered by the landlord and included in the rent. I have informed the landlord earlier today, and he said he will talk with the property management. He appears to be a nice person, at least for now.
What are my options here?
The property management moves at a snails pace, and they care little about the residents here.
1) Should I call 311 for the city to investigate the air conditioning issue?
I have another issue in the unit and that is tap water tastes funny. When I moved in here, the tap water was so different I was scared to swallow it. But over the period of days, I think I got used to it.
2) Can I call Toronto Water to investigate the water? Who is the correct authority here?
Thanks in advance for any forthcoming guidance _ /\ _

2024.05.21 07:42 Lyonlegacy1 Real estate investing? Here are a few considerations before starting

Originally made this as a comment but after all the work of typing it out it won't let me post this giant comment so hopefully this helps someone here as a post.
Personally I love real estate investing and I think it's important to not no path is the right path or wrong path it has everything to do with your goals, time involvement, type of activity you are willing to use your time for, and your skillset.
If you are looking at rental real estate here are some things to consider:
-Current Environment
This is very important for structuring the investment property. The current environment is higher interest rates for purchase. Your cash position will allow you an advantage on single-family rentals as higher interest means the average person looking to buy will have trouble coming up with the cash required to have an affordable payment.
-Cash
Having cash allows you to create a profitable position easier for the higher interest rates currently. You can also purchase properties that require more improvement and sold at a large discount. This can be seen in BRRR strategy and there is a ton of great content from bigger pockets about this on youtube as well as plenty of other sources.
-Deal
Once you found a property you want you have a lot of different ways real estate deals can be structured to find profitable situations depending on the goal. As a rental investor you are looking at both long-term and short-term whereas flippers are looking purely at short-term. This allows you to work with the seller depending on what their goals are. There are plenty of sellers getting lower offers for their houses as the home buyers are trying to afford the payment with less cash. These sellers may have the means to offer lower interest payments or better deferment if they can get the price they want depending on their equity and other factors. Plenty of content on this subject and I think it's extremely undervalued.
-Improvement Cost/Time
Make sure you have the home inspected and take your time to find high quality here. A good inspection can give you leverage to make the deal even better while a poor quality inspection could leave you in a world of pain. Take time to understand the needs and the time they will take to complete before you can even bring the property to market for rent, again this can be great leverage. Keep in mind these improvements will need to be done regardless and this could make it even harder to sell to someone looking for a home as they typically won't want to live in a home that's under construction. Most banks won't lend home buyers money to purchase homes that are not up to code or require considerable cash which they don't have.
-Involvement
Decide where you will and will not be happy to involve your personal time. In the beginning, it would be important to involve yourself in the property more and as your debt service obligations lessen over time you can choose a property management company to take more of these tasks over for you.
Quick list of these tasks:
Renter Aquisition- finding renters, filtering applications, background check, proof of income, verification of employment, Credit Report. Finding great renters is crucial to your time and money! If you can take the time to interview your top few candidates and if possible, meet them at their current residence to know how they live.
Payment- Make sure you have a convenient way for renters to pay that easily allows you to send to your accountant.
Collections & Eviction- The more time you spend on the right renter the less this is an issue. Late payments need swift resolution and communication with the renter at this point is crucial. Documentation is vital so make sure you record everything and know your rights as a landlord. This is needed if you have to evict a tenant.
Maintenance & Grounds- Depends on the property but for the sake of a single-family rental we assume the tenant is responsible for general upkeep(air filter, lawn, carpets etc.) You still will be responsible for the toilets, built-in appliances (range, microwave, dishwasher etc.), water heater, plumbing, sprinklers if permanent, and more. Make sure you have plans in place to deal with these as this is again extremely important to be quick to resolve. I think many often forget rentals are partnerships built on trust. There is nothing better than to make sure your renter who you depend on to pay promptly and care for your property like their own to return that with making absolutely sure they know you truly care about their family being taken care of in their home. Think hard on the moments someone went the extra mile for you and how much it meant and make sure you find pride in creating this feeling for them.
Note: Many of the involvement items can be done through a single mobile application. I recommend that the application you choose have full communication built in so you can use your phone but not your personal number and all communication can be documented within the application. If you plan on managing remotely this is great for video walkthroughs as well.
After these considerations, I know it can seem daunting but most investments feel this way when you first get going just like new careers or anything else that is truly meaningful. Don't let this make you forget that real estate has incredible potential tax benefits, Cashflow while gaining equity, stable profit, great leverage to grow, and so much more.
I hope this helps and I wish you great success!

2024.05.21 07:27 Unusual_Tomato_5234 Cr500 “mid range” problems

I have a cr500 for outlaw kart racing. We’ve had this motor for years while my brother used it. I have since switched to the cr500 and now we are having problems. Whenever I brother last drove it, it ran just fine it sat for the summer months in a trailer and I put it on my kart last fall. Mind you this a 86-87 cr500. Okay so here’s why I came here to try to get some help. Whenever I go full throttle it launches really good then about mid range it has a “dead spot”. Basically it stops climbing rpms and is stuck like it’s in cruse control and makes kind of a weird noise. Then after a second it’ll continue climbing in rpms like normal. The weird thing is, is that if we change jetting to a leaner jet the “dead spot” goes away quicker. We changed clutches thinking they were slipping and also changed carburetors. The motor also has no air leaks. We’ve also changed coils but there is still that mid range “dead spot”. At this point we’re thinking it’s electrical like the stator is going bad or the cdi box. If anyone has had something like this happen before or similar it would be greatly appreciated for some advice on what the problem could be and or how it could be fixed.

2024.05.21 07:19 Desperate_Sentence14 Horses. Hoarseder. 15 horses.

I was adopted when I was 12. When I was in a transitional home, similar to a foster care type situation, they asked me if I wanted to live on a horse ranch. I guess that's every girl's dream? To be a cowgirl and learn the ropes.
Well, I mean, I came from a really really bad situation. I was living in a trailer with my other siblings and it was falling apart with homeless people in and out through the entirety of living there. I still have nightmares about the cockaroaches. My mom was addicted to meth (she has 11 years sober now) I remember, waking up & being terrified to flip on the switch because i knew I'd see bugs scatter. Before that, we lived in homeless shelters & DV housing.
My adopted parents had 30 horses on the ranch. 17, at the time, were theirs. It kinda just felt normal after a while; maybe even felt like home. The horses all are taken care of, get fed more than enough. I secretly felt like the horses were treated better than the adopted kids. 🤣 but, I always felt awkward when I would invite friends over and they would ask me, "how many do you guys have?"
Have you seen the T.V show, "17 kids and counting?" It's a similar situation. We cleaned the stalls & fed the horses after school everyday and I didnt mind it too much--I'm a big animal lover. But I've always felt like they wanted to take us in because they needed spare ranch hands.
I moved out 2 days after I turned 18. All of their adult children have either ran away at 17, or immediately left at 18.
I lived independently for years, even moved abroad to some countries. I had to develop all my cleaning/organizational skills as an adult. They're not ideal, but i'm trying my best. I even consider myself more of a minimalist and value each and every possession I have acquired. Each item tells a unique story.
I'm 27 now, My adopted dad left about a year ago and they're going through a divorce, he is a vet with PTSD who had an episode nearly taking his life; I think the basis of why he left was primarily due to her hoarding. I felt really bad for my mom, and moved back to the ranch to help her and assist her with rent.
Maybe in some ways I've enabled her. I dont know. I've always loved her as she was and tried to approach it gently, but today was a real breaking point today.
I'm reliving the conversation in my head, maybe intonation could have been softer, but cleaning the house with her today I look around and saw so much clutter and unfinished projects. She usually is dismissive in regards to it and dismissively states it's a "ranch" house. But, I see things everywhere that truly serve no purpose and take up space. I can't even put things in cupboards without something tumbling out and hitting me in the face.
She is always complaining about finances.. but I constantly look at the horses and see the cost of hay rising and I really can't comprehend why she has so many horses that serve 0 purpose. (Maybe she uses 3 for lessons.) It's been like this for the last 17 years.
Today, while tryjng to help her clean and declutter, I'll admit things became heated. She started telling me I was "acting like a bitch" repeatedly. And then refused to talk to me. She brought up the fact that I can't stand her "flat-earther" boyfriend, and she's absolutely right. I can't stand him & he's a moron.
Anyways, I just think I came to terms that I need to get outta here as soon as possible. I am ready to really work on my individual happiness and how I can truly and blossom and flourish. I'm so sick of sacrificing my well-being for others.
It's time to really cut her off, and I feel almost giddy at the thought of it.
The housing crisis is real, so give me good vibes ya'll as I search for the best situation possible for me and my kitty.

2024.05.21 06:52 DeeJae911 Remove Cigarette Smell

My wife and I rent a basement apartment in a house. Another tenant rents the upstairs unit. The upstairs tenants are constantly smoking in the backyard next to the air conditioning unit. This causes the smell to be brought inside and spread through our apartment. Is there any way to get rid of the smell? Or at least reduce it?
