2024.05.21 14:38 Negative_Recipe_7153 26M- are you looking for someone new to talk to? Well you have come to the right place!

Hey everyone! I am currently on the look out for new people to connect with! I have tried before though, have not had a lot of luck though, I feel this time will be it and I can find the friendship/connection I am looking for and I hope you find the same in me!
So you ask, who am I? Wonderful question! I love a myriad of things and love to hear about others hobbies though, for me, I love Formula 1, in many cases I will be glued to F1 TV watching a full weekend! I am a huge movie fan and I can talk for hours on anything about the art or movies! Cooking and working out fill that 3rd spot on my top 3. However, excited to hear about hobbies you enjoy as well as I find many cool new interests from hearing others passions!
I know some people enjoy the physical medium of seeing others so, I am more than willing to trade pics!
About me physically, relatively athletic build, brown hair and brown eyes, and so white, it’s scary! Haha
Feel free to send me a chat if you think we'll get along.

2024.05.21 14:37 D_XRay 34M seeking connection

Hi everyone
I'm not good at selling in general, and especially in selling myself, but I'll try nevertheless. So, as the title says, I'm a 34 y.o. guy, looking for online friends and whatever might come of it. Obviously, long-term would be really nice, but we shall see, I guess.
So anyway, I'm Russian (if you have problems with that, please just move along) and not a fan of you-know-what and you-know-who. Due to several years of having been mildly depressed I drifted apart from nearly all of my friends and now I would like to change that. Gotta start somewhere, somehow, right?
About myself: I'm working as an electrician. My hobbies are, I'd say, watching all sorts of documentaries, video games, music production (amateur stuff though), reading (less so as of late, but I used to read a lot). Interested in history, space and astronomy, science, music, true crime, psychology. My favorite music genres are all kinds of rock music, new wave, synthwave and post-punk (especially of the latest "Russian doomer" variety).
If you'd be interested to have a chat, feel free to message me, and regardless of your decision, thank you for your time reading my post

2024.05.21 14:26 pohltergiest Catching up on the Tohoku Times

Catching up on the Tohoku Times
Finally finding some time after resting to do my writing. The bike shop experience was a little sweaty in the hot weather, and while we were outside working on our bikes, not only did the wife of the mechanic go get us an iced coffee and an ice cream, she later made us care packages with an energy gel and a bunch of electrolyte tablets. Looking inside, it would seem this shop has been the home of a pro-level team for a long time, so I imagine they have a lot of these things on hand, but it was still very nice.
My wheel repair went well, the bumps and wobbles straightening out with the spoke repair. Bryce had them look at his front wheel, which had a different problem. He took a look at it, and after some consideration he said it was a "maintenance challenge" and proceeded to pull out a lot of wrenches. Bryce gleaned that the hub of the wheel needed tightening, and he did not have the correct wrenches to deal with this decidedly north american model. But he did have ones that were close enough and with some effort he managed to make it better to ride. After all was said and done we asked how much for the repairs and he tells us that he's a volunteer for the day, that this is his son's shop and he's just hanging out for the day because it's a holiday! We were flabbergasted but again he would not take any payment. We talked with him a bunch and he told us that he's in his 70's and attributes his good health to his biking, which he proudly states he's been doing for over 60 years now. We said he was an inspiration and said our goodbyes.
We were lucky to get the repairs done so quick, as it gave us just enough time to hit up the aquarium. We needed to ride just 12km to get there, and a nice tunnel took us through a mountain range instead of us having to go over it. I was tired, the stress of the string of repairs really getting to me. But we arrived with an hour and a half til closing and got to see the aquarium which was a big white building tucked up against sea cliffs on the sea of Japan. I felt instantly more at ease, the temperature feeling more moderate by the water, which was calm as the day went on.
The aquarium was lovely, with an obvious focus on jellyfish. I don't usually like aquariums or zoos due to what appears to be inadequate facilities for the inhabitants, but jellyfish in a tank? I don't think jellyfish care, or have the ability to care. This is like having a series of terrariums in my mind, jellyfish are one step above insects in my mind. And jellies they had, loads and loads of jellies, some on the larger side and lots of teeny tiny ones that almost can't be seen at all without magnification. They really do look like little automatons, just wiggling around. The tanks were all very tastefully lit, highlighting UV reactive cells, long streaming tendrils (that I'm sure have a proper name), and rainbow shimmering reflective cells that look deceptively like teeny tiny LEDs on little ridges. The prime attraction was the dream theatre, a dark room with a 5m tall tank circulating with hundreds or thousands of jellies and lit with a dreamy blue and purple light. We saw posters of famous artists performing in front of the jellyfish tank, the theatre being aptly named.
We missed out on the jellyfish ramen noodles, it being a bit too late in the day, but we did get to enjoy the late day views from on top of the aquarium. Why did we ever leave the ocean? Flat roads, sunsets unmarred by dumb terrain, beaches. It's the best. I love beaches. Looking at the map, we'd have to cover 120km to get to Akita to take the ferry to hokkaido, so we decided to cover some ground while we still had light so as to not overload the next day should something happen. On we went. We zoomed past pastel-lit beaches, seeing folks sitting in pairs, waiting for the sunset. We've seen people stop right on highways if they have a good view of the sunset. We had no such time to enjoy it today.
An hour or so later, we covered 20km to Sakata. Bryce wanted fried chicken for dinner, so we went to a takeout place and got way too much chicken for the two of us to eat. It can be hard to tell what you're getting, as one piece of karaage can be anything from a morsel to a meal, in this case we had more of a meal per piece along with rice and cabbage. We got some drinks from a vending machine and ate the food by a river, watching the water go by as the light faded. For once, we couldn't finish all the food, which was a shock. I always finish the food. Good job, random chicken place, you win this round.
I found a big empty looking beach in the middle of nowhere on the map about 10km north of our position, so we prepared to set out for a night ride. Rain was in the forecast for the next morning, which meant we needed a private place that we wouldn't be bothered for an extended time during daylight hours. And we'd need to reduce our kilometers for the next day as we'd probably have to bike some of it in the rain, which sucks. As we were biking through the city, we happened upon a summer festival, people filling the streets. The usual assortment of festival treats didn't steal our attention, but I stopped for a moment to examine a line of white painted ladies in front of a stage that were talking turns talking about something or another. If only we had the time to watch the performance!
We instead used our valuable time biking to a convenience store to one again get water, food, and some canned coffee for the next morning. Always an exciting time. We left the city, things now fully dark. The highway was not the best, lots of cracks and parts filled in with patches, and my focus wasn't the best. Obstructions become much harder to see in the light of a headlight, even harder to see when you have to use the dimmest setting as the headlamp always seems to be close to dying. My body bitched that it was the wrong time of day to be biking, I should already be setting up camp and kicking back, not pressing for an extra 10km.
We did eventually make it to the beach intact, if a bit worn out, rolling down a sandy road until we had to push our bikes over dune-encrusted paths. Nobody here except a handful of night fishers, but they only care about fish. We pushed our bikes along the beach until we found a lonely pair of shelters for picnics and began setting up there. It seemed like a good spot, and we could tie up the tarp for extra rain protection. Giant wind fences on the beach would help with any gusts coming off the sea, but we weren't expecting a lot of wind anyways. Feeling like I'd have extra time in the morning, I got to sleep instead, feeling more tired than ever.
I slept very long, clearly the need for sleep piling up on me. We got to bed a little later than I wanted, but it was indeed raining when I woke in the morning, so I went back to sleep and luckily got a few more hours. We discovered in the morning light that we were not the only ones to think highly of the shelters, with little ants crawling all over the outside of the tent. Not a big deal, but a little unnerving considering we haven't always been perfect about getting the zippers all the way closed. We had some breakfast in bed (which inevitably led to a spilled coffee) and read for a little bit, but debates about getting going started pretty quickly. The rain didn't look like it was going to let up, which meant we were going to have to get going or risk riding at night again.
It was late in the morning when we were ready to go, rain gear donned and our spirits as high as they would be all day. We had 95km to ride, half a day to do it, and we were already soaked. On we went. Rice planting is in full swing now, everywhere we go there's farmers hurredly planting thousands of tiny sprouts in prepared fields. Early on there was a bit of a roadside attraction in the form of a curiously coloured pond, which we dutifully checked out. The pond was indeed a brilliant blue green colour and very clear, like the water of some onsens we've seen. Reading a sign, the pond was the source of the little rivers nearby and the water was extremely cold which kept it from fouling.
As we rode, the mist rising off the hills looked like smoke. We hoped the rain would turn to just mist soon. Wiping my face for the hundredth time, we slowly pedaled on. Rain pants tug on my skin, making knee pain feel more prominent. We bike slower too, I think the water on the road is just harder to bike on. Feels like slow motion compared to fair weather riding. After 30km, I needed to stop and get some real food in me, I found a mandarin restaurant serving spicy ramen, which sounded perfect for a cold, stiff day like this. We left our dripping rain gear outside where it might get slightly dryer simply by gravity, and went in, still sorta dripping anyways.
Inside, the restaurant was filled to the brim with knickknacks and collectables and was bright and cheery despite the weather outside. I found a place to plug in my headlamp and we both ordered big bowls of spicy soup and colas for the sugar and caffeine boost we'd need to keep going. The soup was flavorful and delicious, with a ground pork that was sweet instead of savoury. Last time I made sweet pork it was kinda gross so it was neat to have a sweet pork that wasn't bad. I ate my whole bowl, needing all the calories I could get, and settled down a bit to check the radar for the area.
As can be expected for the coast, the weather was temperamental. It was good we got going, as the section behind us was being hammered, while we could expect a bit of a reprieve from the rain as we moved forward. That was about as good as we could hope for and with the clock striking 2 (and playing a song) in the restaurant, we departed.
The sky brightening a bit from a dreary grey to a less dreary grey, our moods lifted for a while while our jackets dried off in the breeze. The sights were beautiful, in a desolate sort of way. Something about staring off into seemingly infinite ocean is unsettling to me. The evergreens on rocky spits in the ocean reminded us of the west coast trail, a few unbothered sections of coast here and there revealing what this land is supposed to look like under all the concrete pylons and coast management techniques Japan loves.
After an hour, I began having some real issues. My heart rate had spiked, my vision was a little odd, and I was starting to not feel well. Not good. I drank a bunch of water, which helped, but eventually my body decided the spicy ramen was too oily and spicy for my guts and I went to destroy a convenience store. I felt better after, but I really should know better by now. There's so much oil in the cooking here though, it's hard to avoid sometimes.
We kept riding, now with no rain gear and keeping up a respectable pace. We went on a desolate road, giant windmills standing guard on the coast overlooking fields of windburnt trees all bent away from the water. Looks like this coast gets absolutely hammered by the wind, maybe I shouldn't complain too much about the rain if it's not windy as well. Things were looking up, our pace put us on schedule to arrive at 6, well before dark which put us in better spirits. Better spirits until Bryce's tire blew out.
Pulling apart the tire layers, incredulous that the so-called "flatless" tires would fail us now, we found a shard of black glass stabbed straight through the thickest part of the tire and a centimeter into the tube section. Well there's no bike tire on earth that can survive that, that one's just bad luck. We felt a little better about that as we set about replacing it. At least with the new rim Bryce had it was much less of a fight to get the tire on and off to replace the tube. Getting the bead to set was a pain, Bryce cycled the tube pressure three times and we even soaped the edge to get it to budge. It seemed good enough to me, but the rim of the tire definitely seemed a little inconsistent. The rain starting again, we debated what we should do, I argued that if he was careful and avoided bumps the bead might set itself and we didn't have any other techniques we could try. He wasn't able to pull the tire over any more and my hands were too weak to be of much help. We were wet and cold by this point, so Bryce agreed with this and we remounted and got moving. We could always take the train if we had to, but that wasn't an option we wanted to do just yet.
I was in the rear and I could immediately see and hear something was wrong with Bryce's bike, even though I was focused on the tire bead to see if it was setting properly. It looked like his front and back tires were tracking different paths and one or both seemed to be leaning? I know the front tire had a hub issue so I thought maybe they're just a bit off but after a while I called a halt as it looked just too messed up not to try reseating the axle. While we were redoing the rear axle, we discovered that a bolt holding the rear pannier rack was close to coming out altogether, the source of the terrible rattling I've been hearing for weeks now! That was a relief to fix, and the wheel seemed to be sitting better. Now we were quite a bit later, projections looking more like 7 o'clock and getting dark by the time we got to the city.
The sky was getting lighter, but it was the sun starting to sink below the cloud layer, signaling the end of the day and the last of our riding light. I was so tired by this point, bone tired. The rain makes every kilometer feel like two, I was sneezing again, feeling sad. Lots of harsh feelings were welling up, life starting to roar back into focus as all the things I pushed away for the past year demanded answers right now. I tried my best to file away the petitions as I could, but mostly I just tried to keep my head up as my mood sunk lower with the sun. My sinuses decided they'd had enough and shut down, making my head feel like it was a size too big. In the last light of the day we got to Akita, the end of our Tohoku adventure. The kindness of the people we met saved us from finding the whole region cursed.
I demanded burgers and fries to lift my soggy mood, nothing in my tool box keeping me happy. Luckily there was a good looking place near our hotel to try and it was a countertop kinda place. We went in to find a fully charming establishment full of locals and a pair of chefs working the counter. I was feeling just awful but Bryce had a good time interacting with people. Everyone was very curious about the two colourful and very wet foreigners who had wandered in after parking very large and heavy bikes. I joined in on the answers, having the better language skills whenever Bryce couldn't parse what was being asked, but I was more focused on the pile of fries and the chili burger I ordered. People were flabbergasted that we came all the way from the southern end of the country, the chefs assuming we must have come from Tokyo instead. Some of the other patrons started rattling off Canadians they knew, with Justin Bieber ("Justinoo Beeberu!") and Celine Dion topping the list. I ordered a BLT sandwich as I was still starving even after a whole meal. The chef brought over a bottle of nice sake to have as a toast to the brave travellers, which I had to refuse as I would like to recover from this cold sometime this century. There's so much booze that it's hard not to here.
To alleviate the embarrassment of having to refuse the booze, he offered me a ginger ale instead, which I graciously accepted. The other chef laughed as they pulled out a bottle "Canada Dry" she said, to the laughter of the bar. Taste of home in a strange place. I polished off my BLT (and considered a second) and while I'm sure Bryce could have spent all evening taking free shots of excellent sake with the bartender, we had to be up early, so we said our goodbyes and waved as we wheeled our bikes into the dark city. I left in a good mood, but tired as hell. Bryce was positivity beaming from the fun interactions, and the four drinks he had. The hotel was nearby, so it wasn't too hard. A parking attendant ushered us to a spot near the guardhouse, and we locked up there. He asked us when we were thinking of getting the bikes the next day, and when we said 430 in the morning he was a little taken aback. He understood that the ferry was early but that was too early for him.
The hotel room was nice enough, but all I wanted was a bath and sleep. There were bath salts at the front desk and we took turns soaking in the tub. I wasted no time, doing my thing, arranging my clothes for the morning, setting an alarm and going to sleep. 415 would be just around the corner.

2024.05.21 14:18 Dry-Heat-6684 Traveling to Germany and want to brush up on my German!

Hallo zusammen
Just like the title says, I am traveling to Germany in one month (unexpected trip and opportunity of a lifetime just came up) and desperately need to practice my German. I took German in middle school (age 11-13ish), and then all throughout highschool at pretty challenging levels until I was 18. I am 23 now and have not practiced in a while, but I would say I have a pretty good base understanding of German. I still remember a lot of grammar and have a head full of random vocabulary. I just want to put it all to good use and not make a fool of myself when visiting the people I am staying with. Even if I can understand more/better than I can speak within a month I would be very happy!
So, heres the question. What are your recommendations to get back in to it? I'm not looking for an introductory course. My ideas included maybe finding a tv show or a few movies I have seen in English and watching them in German, while also practicing in some way everyday online.
Sorry if this is all over the place, I'm trying to get this post up while I'm at work.
Vielen Dank!

2024.05.21 13:59 seeuneve Dislike is an understatement, i actually despise my SIL. Tldr

My younger SIL (lets call her B) just gave birth last year and I helped out a lot sebab dia ni takde suami. When she couldnt calm her newborn baby, i took over and said to her, “i understand how challenging this is, dont worry im here to help you. Dulu i pun ‘koyak’ juga lah masa jaga newborn sbb penat sgt and first time mom kan”. Then B with a straight face replied, “oh i takdelah koyak sebab anak kan. Kenapa i nak koyak dgn anak sendiri”. Well u should’ve said that to your face B bcs i always saw you lose it when your baby is cranky. How dare you guilt tripping me for not coming over to see u n your baby when i actually only went back to my parents house. Mcm aku ni tkde keje lain je nak mengadap kau.
I wont be like this if you were grateful enough for your family for accepting and helping and supporting you through your journey even though what you did was really really bad. You gave birth at a private hosp, your baby gets her monthly checkup at that same private hosp, your mom tanggung both of you 100% from your car loan to your baby’s diapers and milk. Your brother (my husband) took one for all by saying to our relatives that the baby is our adopted child even though its ridiculous bcs the baby looks exactly like you.
But you are still like your old self. Arrogant, entitled, spoiled and tak reti jaga mulut. You scolded me for breastfeeding your baby even though ive asked permission and its for the baby’s own good. You shamelessly go out and about bringing your baby everywhere. I said this bcs it invites question from people around us and my husband has to lie. Sometimes, when my husband’s friends came over and B happens to be there with her baby, she would suddenly come near to my husband while holding her baby over to my husb and said, “hi daddy”. Of course member husb aku pelik and tanya eh ni anak siapa? You even had the audacity to marah everyone including me sebab lambat uruskan your placenta. My BIL snapped and scolded you and then you went ahead and cried to your mom. So what did your mom do? Of course she called all of your siblings and gave them a scolding for making you cry. Except my husband sbb aku awal2 dah message dkt MIL explaining that we genuinely forgot about the placenta and we kept it safe, and you B dont need to marah2 everyone bcs we also have our plates full. FYI, the siblings tak kesian dkt B’s situation sbb ni bukan first time dia buat benda tu. Cumanya this time terpregnant.
B lives with my MIL. She dont have a job and her income is from my MIL. I dont give a damn about all those special treatment and privilege that she has. But when it comes to my baby, i would give a whole lot of damn ye. My 2yo baby dah tak rapat dgn my MIL ever since B gave birth. Im sad to see they no longer have the bond that they used to have but i decided to distance myself from B for the sake of my mental peace. Distancing from B means distancing from my MIL as well.
But B has crossed the line so so many times that i have to do this. One time, my husb asked B to watch our baby while we both were working. All of us were outside at the time. MIL was holding B’s baby so B was free to watch over my baby. About 10mins or so we suddenly couldnt hear our baby’s voice. Rupanya B tak jaga pun anak aku and she lost my baby. My mind went blank at the time. I just followed where my feet goes and thank god i immediately found my baby. Not a single apology came out of her mouth. Aku jaga anak kau mcm anak sendiri ye tapi kau buat anak aku mcm ni. My baby fell ill later that night sbb i think she was traumatised when she got lost. The next day B accidentally spilled my husb’s drink and she politely said, sorry sebab tertumpahkan air abg. Wah kau hilangkan ank aku tak pandai pulak nk mintak maaf.
There was one time B was so proud of her 5months baby at the time sebab kaki baby dia kuat, boleh tegakkan kaki. She said, “kaki my baby kuat betul lah kuat sgt utk umur dia. Tak macam your baby kan masa 5 bulan your baby lembik2 lagi kan?” Ughh aku lah kan masa tu rasa nak tumbuk je muka kau. Then i said, eh takdelah. Anak i 5 bulan dah pandai lompat2 dah dlm jumper tu”. Then later that evening i posted a story from my archive from when my baby was 5months old and she was jumping cheerfully in the jumperoo. Hahah puas hati aku. Aku tak pernah kisah kau nak bangga2 kan anak kau tapi tak perlu lah nak downkan or comparekan dgn anak org lain. Byk lagi lah kejadian2 compare ni berlaku. Mcm makcik bawang dah perangai kau.
Recently, we stayed at a hotel in a family room. Anak aku tak suka sgt dkt baby si B ni. If the baby cry, my daughter will cry too. If the baby scream, my daughter will scream too. Shes just uncomfortable around the baby. Imagine lah the chaos when both of them are in the same room. Tapi last2 anak aku jugak yg kena marah sbb tantrum padahal ank dia yg punca. My baby, husband and MIL went out first so B and i and her baby checked out later. I jokingly said haa senang sikit nak kemas kalau tak ada dua2 baby serentak. Then B said, “oh my baby takde masalah, senang je nak jaga, tak kuat nangis, baik and dengar kata”. Eh ank kau tu baru 10bulan mana pandai nk tantrum lagi tapi susah jugak nk buat kerja sbb nak kena pegang je. Well, lets see when your daughter turns 2 agak2 anak kau ok ke tak. Later that day when my baby was napping in her stroller, B suddenly said, “anak u tido baru nampak dia baik”, then she laughed. Erghh kau nk mengata anak aku pulak.
She used to bodyshame my baby saying my baby is kurus sangat lah and my MIL pun ckp ank aku kurus lah kesian lah tak makan lah. EXCUSE ME, anak aku ni tinggi mcm bapak dia and kurus mcm mak dia. Her weight is normal, tak pernah turun pun berat dia since lahir. And she didnt seem kurus to me and everyone else pun. Aku dah tak tahan aku post an angry stroy dkt ig abt ppl yg suka mengata badan ank org. Since then dia slow down psal badan ank aku. Last2 MIL bgtahu aku yg berat badan anak B turun 400gram. Thats a lot ye for an infant. Puncanya easy je, B didnt cook real food for her baby. Her main meal is cerelac and biscuits. Sometimes i prepare food for her baby and B mcm tak suka bila MIL puji baby suka makanan aku bagi tu. B rasa mcm tercabar. She was like, “sempat eh u masak. Oh lupa u kan mmg duduk rumah tak kerja”. Like i care? Dah anak kau lapar pstu kau pulak kata busy lah tak sempat lah.
Actually byk je lagi benda menyakitkan hati jadi but cukup lah ni je. My MIL got so upset that my daughter taknak dekat dia lagi dah. Im not responsible for that. Kalau dulu u always come over to my house to see your grandchild why now tak boleh dah? Im not gonna put myself through the emotional torture by being around B a lot. It comes with a price but thats what best for me.

2024.05.21 13:56 Lunabeamer83 Question

Is there anything I can do legally to stop my neighbor from disrupting my living space?
I moved into my home as Covid hit so 2020, I had just been burnt by what I thought was a friend so I didn’t want to make new ones but my friend who helped me move suggested I get to know thy neighbor, boy was that a mistake!
The first year: she had a small dog who piss and shit in the front yard, it’s okay she picked up after him. The weeds were an issue and she wants me to help weed the yard her dog did his deeds. She also has a cat that poops in every space on my property she doesn’t clean up I had plant die because the cat pees in the flower bed. My friend used the garage to fix things as his was under repair and the door would be closed but she would walk right in to get him to fix things for her for free, resulting in him not using the garage and he doesn’t come over anymore for fear of bumping into her. Made the mistake of giving her my number all she did was text me about my dog barking and she would exaggerate it as well as I confirmed with another neighbor who said yes it barks but not often or long. Year 2: I’m annoyed, I push back by making her do the yard work in the front your dog and cat mess up the front you should clean it was my attitude. The continuous texts about my dog barking doesn’t stop. She now starts complaining about my programs I watch on tv because she can see through my window to my tv. Oh yeah did I mention she looks into my windows to see if I’m home when I ignore the door. She has learned I leave my door unlock, she tried to come in my home but my dog stopped her. She has tried to get my husband to do things for her. I ran a home beauty spa out of my home and she kept approaching my clients that I ended up closing my spa. Year three: I can’t leave my house she’s watching me come and go. When I leave my home she’s texting me about the dog barking. I gave up my life outside the house to ensure my dog didn’t bark. I can’t watch tv, even with privacy film on the window she sees the light from the tv on and she texts me about it. I work from home and attend college from home so I need to disconnect some how so I listen to music well apparently I can’t do that either. Now, I have a family member who came from Manitoba he’s got a big truck as he’s in construction and wants to try to see if he can get stable out here. He hasn’t been here no more then 24 hours and she follows him from my side walk all the way into my home trying to get him to talk to her. My daughter stopped her at the door said no and slammed the door in her face.
Also the dog thing has gotten to the point she’s called by law twice he came and I provided documentation the dog is trained and how it’s been trained and by law left. She’s also gone as far as to call and harassed the owner about the dog again I provided the documentation to help others understand the dog. I have a written note from by law as well.
I would really like not to move, so don’t suggest this. The dog is at the end of life and will be put down in June. None of my friends want to come here for fear of being bothered by her.
I can’t seem to listen to music, watch tv, enjoy my space or let alone go and come as I please.

2024.05.21 13:45 LxZer0 I miss the old days... Time to bring em back!

Do your member the late 90s - early 2000s?
i know i do.. i grew up during that era..and today i can say for sure.. that was the best time !..
But let me explain..
the last year i started to feel that something is off.. something is wrong in/with my life.. i used to be so creative and had so many engaging hobbies.. today i sit in front of a screen 8 hours a day at work and then 2-3 hours at home, playing videogames and watching youtube and streaming on Disney Plus..
That makes a total ov 11 hours a day on screentime.. and no time away from it (except while sleeping)..
That shocked me. so i thought... lets cut down on that screentime.. lets get back into analog living.. at least at home on the weekends.. But it is damn hard to just turn off the pc or just do something else except consuming media.. its like an addiction.. Brain says "You want this dont you.. you want to watch another video.. admit it"..
After many tries i still couldnt break the addiction cycle.. UNTIL LAST WEEK..
We visitied my Grandmother in another state.. and as i sat down in her living room i felt so much at peace and calm.. i felt like 24 years ago .. and i loved it!..
then i figured out why .. because she doesnt have much to distract me.. there is a tv and a set of playing cards and a crossword magazine.. thats it..!..
Back to the start of my post..
in the late 90s-early 00s as many of you can remember.. there was less digital noise.. no on demand entertainment.. no youtube..
The internet was there .. but mostly for research and gathering information .. it was a TOOL..
Entertaiment had more value as a whole.. if you wanted to watch the next episode of your fav tv series? you had to tune in on a given time and day.. the same goes for movies in theatres and so on..
I think.. on demand entertainment and the constant availablilty of stuff (i.e. online shopping) has made us lazy and tired .. we became media consuming zombies.. Work - Consume - sleep - Repeat
It is time to get back into the real world.. LEAVE THE MATRIX!. Start new Project..
That is what i do now.. Reddit will be my only forum like "entertainment" and youtube consumption will be reduced to what it was. research and tutorials.. (valuable Entertainment).. and i already started finishing my garage / workshop Project (which started 3 years ago -.-)
What do you all think about this?

2024.05.21 13:44 Savings_Ad_2297 39/M I am the droid you’re looking for if you are looking for a new best friend!

Hey all! This is a bit weird for me being almost 40 and looking for friends. But here I am anyways lol. Mainly looking for someone to message throughout the day and get to know. Maybe game with if we have that in common. I do work from home so there’s no one to really talk to during the day.
I’m married and have 2 kids, a 6 month old son and a 9 year old daughter. I’m into basic nerdy things. Gaming, star wars, super heroes, DnD, anything Disney, etc. Also trading card games like Disney Lorcana and Star Wars Unlimited.
I watch a ton of Critical Role stuff especially Campaign 3! Currently on episode 74, so if you watch too, let me know! Also like to watch Battle of the Brands on YouTube.
I’m also into movies and tv, some sports, pro wrestling. Collecting action figures and retro games is one of hobbies as well. Anything 80s/90s nostalgia i absolutely love so if you want to talk childhood and growing up back then, i’m down! I miss the good old days where we went to arcades and italian sunday dinners at the grandparents and where the world just wasn’t as nutso as it is today lol.
My kids are everything to me and I do love talking about them. Love being silly with them and spending time with them (when they aren’t driving me crazy 🤪 lol)..I would prefer you be around my age and have kids as well just so we have that stuff in common off the bat! I’m socially awkward most times but very easy to get along with. I’m definitely considered an introvert. But once you get to know me I break out of that awkward shell. I do like to use sarcasm, and mostly like to try and make people laugh because a world without laughter would just be horrible.
Alright i’ll shut up now but I’d like to think i’m an awesome person to get to know and hopefully there’s more you’d like to know so feel free to DM me! (I looove using GIFs so if you message me, open up with a funny one! Especially since then i’ll know you actually read this 😂)

2024.05.21 13:33 Skellitor301 Guide to dealing with Hackers (Potential spoilers)

It's happened to the best of us, we are off working on one of the mainframe networks and then we notice our packet speed is low in the network. You open your map and see a bunch of red exclamation points on one of the mainframe nodes, which could mean one thing. You got a hacker in your network.
So, how to deal with this? Well, there are two ways. One simple way is to sacrifice the endpoint by disconnecting it from the rest of the network, so the hacker can play with the endpoint all he wants and the rest of your network can function properly after you hit it with the AV tool. In my experience playing, this is a good way to handle this since there seems to be a limited amount of hackers that can exist, and if they are in the low level nodes like the research area, you're not going to be missing out on much credit generation when doing this.
But, what if you want to actually recover the endpoint and properly deal with the hacker? Well, there is a way to do this. Since I've searched online to see if anyone else has posted about this with little luck finding anything, I figured I'd post this guide for anyone wanting to know.
So, to handle a hacker will take a bit of time. You'll need access to the AV tool and any endpoint that ends in 2.2 (0.0.2.2, 0.1.2.2, 0.3.2.2, etc) I'll call this endpoint for ease as the cops. If you look at the field guide in game you'll see this endpoint is hinted at near the end. When you get most of the pages, you'll get a long list of endpoint addresses and descriptions of what each endpoint will do at the end of the field guide. You'll find that the endpoint address for 0.b.2.2 (the b is to note that this works with any 0.*.2.2 endpoint in any of the mainframe nodes) notes that it responds to DDoS attacks. For ease, I'll call this endpoint the Cops endpoint. Anyway, here is what the field guide wont tell you; A DDoS attack that is sent to the cops that was was addressed to the cops will not trigger a response. The cops will look at this packet and see it's addressed to it and think it's a normal packet and will get infected because of this. So this means you cannot just rely on the cops being on your network to automatically protect the network. You'll have to be a bit more hands on to fix this problem.
First, you'll have to find the hacker, easiest way is to watch your map and look for uninfected endpoints, so don't clean the network with your AV tool just yet, use the attack in your favor to eliminate where the hacker isn't. Once you've located the hacker, disconnect the affected endpoint from your network so it can't do any more damage. You'll need to run a line using relays directly from the affected endpoint to the cops, if you got colored wires I'd recommend you color this line to make it easier to clean up later. Once you got this line to the cops, you'll need to disconnect the cops from your network and connect to this line, making it so the hacker can only send packets to the cops.
You'll start to see a ton of hack packets start to go to the cops, which will trigger the response back through the line to the hacker in the form of a packet called law enforcement shutdown. This will shutdown the endpoint the hacker is using, which will cause the hacker to leave the endpoint. Now, you are free to reconnect the affected endpoint to your network, and use your AV tool to restart the endpoint and clean your network of the DDoS attacks in one go. All that is left now is to clean up the line to the cops and reconnect the cops back to the network.
That's it! Just a little leg work will take care of the hackers but keep in mind that they can and will return down the line. So use this when you need, otherwise follow my recommendation and quarantine the endpoint the hacker is using so they can stay out of the way.
Happy networking!
