2024.05.19 12:13 RNGmedicine Supplements to counteract side effects of methylphenidate - ADHD medication - on bodybuilding

Hi all, long time lurker. Been lifting since 2015 (with some breaks in between) but seriously been bodybuilding and micromanaging since 2019 when the pandemic hit.
Not too long ago I got diagnosed with severe ADHD and have been prescribed methylphenidate quick release 80mg (4x20mg) daily dosage for my symptoms. Before that I used to self medicate with excessive amounts of caffeine in the form of energy drinks, coffee and obviously pre workouts (sometimes 8x 200mg caffeine) because of easier access than going to the store or brewing coffee so why not lol.
Supplements I consistently take are: - Zinc, K2-MK7, B12, D3, 3g Creatine and L-Carnitine-T (morning). - 5g Creatine and 3g L-Carnitine-T (1hr before lifting). - Magnesium+whey isolate+cod liver oil post workout when I break fasting and have my meal afterwards (evening).
I eat OMAD when I’m on a cut and during maintenance phase. Although I’ve already gotten used to this regime I feel like it’s easier to control the cravings I’d still get from time to time now that I’m on medication, and I’m not suffering from hunger during the comedown at all.
I have some questions to all natural lifters with ADHD who have to take medication everyday:
What are some of the most notable changes you noticed when you started taking medication, and what supplements are useful to counteract the negative changes in regard to that?
What other supplements do you take to counteract the general side effects of methylphenidate such as: vasoconstriction, loss of appetite etc?
What improvements did you notice in regard to building/maintaining muscle mass and strength?
For me: I noticed that I started to become very sleepy from pre workouts for some reason and my motivation plummeted so I had to cut out the caffeine. Traps became very stiff from sitting too long (dynamic desk job, never had any issues in the past even during times I had to sit down all day and on days that I’d emphasize more on traps and shoulders), I tried supplementing with a little more magnesium citrate but am yet to feel the benefits besides the heavenly feeling I get when I empty my bowels the next morning.
On the other hand I did become a lot leaner without losing too much strength during a cut and it increased my mind muscle connection on exercises where I usually didn’t feel it very much, but like I said earlier I had to cut out pre workouts which actually gave me a lot more pump and endurance/stamina (probably because of the arginine and other endurance enhancers vs vasoconstriction from the methylphenidate) before I started medications. My muscles do look a bit smallecompact but I think that has to do with vasoconstriction too since I don’t really notice too much of a difference in the morning.
Another thing I’d like to point out is that I haven’t had a break from medication since, but I want to take break soon during summer to increase my appetite for an upcoming bulk.
Any advice on how to approach things aside from asking the doc?
Would anyone like to share their own experiences?
Much appreciated.

2024.05.19 09:20 zlaxy On this day 116 years ago, Nikolay Pilchikov, a scientist-physicist, developer of radio-controlled devices, died in Kharkov from a shot in the heart

On this day 116 years ago, Nikolay Pilchikov, a scientist-physicist, developer of radio-controlled devices, died in Kharkov from a shot in the heart
On this day 116 years ago in Kharkov Nikolay Dmitrievich Pilchikov – scientist-physicist, inventor in the field of radio engineering, author of works on optics, terrestrial magnetism, electrical and radio engineering, radioactivity, X-rays, electrochemistry, geophysics, meteorology – was shot in the heart.
At about seven o’clock in the morning of 6 May 1908, a shot rang out in a ward of an expensive Kharkov hospital. Breaking open the door locked from the inside, the doctors saw its only patient – it seemed that his life had been cut short in his sleep. The man was lying in his bunk, as if he hadn’t woken up yet. And if not for the bloodstain on his chest, no one would have realised the tragedy. A revolver lay on the tea-table beside the bed. It was from this revolver that the bullet that had pierced the scientist’s heart had been fired. Could a man who was undergoing medical treatment have carefully placed the gun beside his tea glass and folded his arms across his chest after shooting himself at point-blank range? Nevertheless, the “cadaver book” records ruled the death a suicide.
For some reason forensic experts did not do dactyloscopy – the investigation was not puzzled by fingerprints on the black “bulldog”, which became the murder weapon. And the authoritative professor Nikolai Bokarius, whose name now bears the local Institute of Forensic Medicine, even described Pilchikova’s case in a textbook for lawyers and doctors as an example of temporary purposeful capacity of suicides with fatal gunshot wounds in the heart area. At that, the luminary recommended to take into account not only anatomical features of the injury, but also the functional state of the central nervous system. The picture was completed by the conclusion of pathologists, who found in the killed after the autopsy of the corpse modifications in the structure of the brain.
A purely “police” justification for not considering the murder version was the fact that the incident took place in a locked room on the first floor (as if this could be an obstacle to unauthorised entry).
And a week after the scientist’s death, on 13 May 1908, the head of the police department received a report from the head of the Kharkov security service about the unreliability of the “extreme leftist” Professor Pilchikov, who was known for his active participation in “criminal agitation activities of engineering students”. This was confirmed by a search of the scientist’s house, during which propaganda literature from the period of the first Russian revolution of 1905 was found.
What was Professor Pilchikov doing before he was “worked out” by the police? The scientific fate of Nikolai Dmitrievich was as unusual as his death was mysterious and the fate of outstanding discoveries inexplicable.
The scientist, whose life was cut short at the age of 51, was not only a physicist, but also a lyricist: he was no less talented in composing poetry, painting pictures and playing the violin. But he considered his life’s work to be his scientific career, which was unusually successful.
The son of a public and cultural figure, who was a friend of Taras Shevchenko, was born on 9 May 1857 in Poltava, and already during his studies in gymnasium showed remarkable abilities in exact sciences. Entering the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kharkiv University, he experimented in new at that time experiments in the field of sound recording, while still a student invented an electric phonograph.
After graduation, the graduate was left to work at the Department of Physics. His first scientific monograph was devoted to optical analysis. Later the scientist made a number of discoveries on the topics of scattered light polarisation and atmospheric ionisation, atmospheric electricity and geomagnetism, radioactivity and X-rays. Pilchikov was awarded the Silver Medal from the Russian Geographical Society for a series of studies of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, during which iron ore deposits near Prokhorovka were predicted.
After defending his thesis at the University of St. Petersburg, the master of physics was appointed privat-docent of the Kharkov University, and two years later he went to practice at a magnetic observatory in Paris, where he discovered flaws in the design of the seismograph and offered his mentors a way to correct them.
Soon the young professor of Kharkov University becomes famous outside Russia, becoming a regular at international scientific conferences and a member of the Toulouse Academy of Sciences.
Nikolay Pilchikov returned to Kharkov as a university professor, where he created a meteorological station that still exists today. To study the upper atmosphere, the professor developed a stratostat and then a high-altitude spacesuit to equip the pilot. The atmospheric optics researcher created his own seismograph and designed equipment to determine magnetic pressure.
Having moved for some time to Odessa (to work at the Imperial Novorossiysk University), in 1894 the scientist invented an original lamp for the study of X-rays, called “Pilchikov’s focus tube”. The optical and galvanic version of the study of electrolysis developed by him made it possible to obtain images on metal plates – so the inventor became the author of electrophotography or photogalvanography.
And on 25 March 1898, Nikolai Pilchikov demonstrated for the first time a device working with radio waves of a certain length and rejecting interference. During his experiments in Odessa he lit a lighthouse with the help of radio waves and moved a railway semaphore, blew up a yacht and made a cannon fire.
The scientist characterised his contribution to radio physics as follows: while Popov and Marconi were looking for a way to transmit a signal over the greatest possible distance, he was solving the problem of cutting off wireless power transmission from extraneous electrical waves. Thus appeared the first device with a protector – a security filter, allowing only the waves addressed to it to reach the mechanism and protecting the equipment from atmospheric and radio interference. The scientist not only designed and manufactured different types of the first protectors, but also tested them in practice.
With the help of his revolutionary device, Professor Pilchikov made it possible to create radio-controlled mine boats that could sink enemy ships without a crew and fire on enemy targets. In proposing the idea to the Russian military, the inventor characterised it as a way of detonating objects at a considerable distance without cables or other visible communication.
Applying for financial assistance from the military department, Pilchikov planned to spend 15,000 roubles on laboratory equipment, manufacture of devices and their testing with the support of the Sevastopol naval forces. For his part, the scientist undertook to keep the know-how in strict secrecy and not to publish any information about the development in scientific literature. As a result, this circumstance may have contributed to the fact that the scientist’s works disappeared and he himself may have been eliminated.
Military engineers discussed the professor’s petition for research funds with reference to foreign experience. Specialists compared Pilchikov’s achievements with the developments of foreign scientists experimenting with wireless telegraph, to whom the authorities did not refuse anything. For example, Preece was authorised for experiments by the postal department of England, Marconi obtained in 1897 large sums of money from the naval department of Italy, and the Berlin scientist Slaby received aeronautical parks, watercraft and troops of the Potsdam garrison from the Emperor of Germany. Pilchikov, on the other hand, had a much more extensive programme and was naturally expected to produce the most ambitious results.
On his return to Kharkov in 1902, the professor continued his research in the best-equipped physical laboratory of those times, the local University of Technology. He was also allocated a ship “Dnestr” and funds for marine experiments. On the ship in 1903 the scientist equipped a receiving radio station, and on the Chersonese lighthouse – transmitting.
Alas, neither the scheme of those protectors, nor the content of the experiments, nor their further fate are known today. In the archives we found only information about a letter of gratitude to Professor Pilchikov from the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. It was dated the beginning of September 1904. It is clear that in the midst of the war with Japan secret military developments could be of interest to both belligerents. Moreover, other external enemies were also interested in preventing Russia’s military advantage.
Professor Pilchikov’s research competed with American experiments in the Maritime Ministry under Tesla, who was also working on the task of wireless control of a minelayer from the shore. This is a case in science when “an idea is in the air” and the same discovery is independently made by scientists at different ends of the world.
It is believed that the first radio-controlled telemechanical system in the world was developed by Nikola Tesla – he patented and presented an unprecedented ship model in the summer of 1898, but came to the discovery the day before, in spring. And “Russian Tesla” Nikolai Pilchikov tested a similar invention in March of the same year, which was reported in a note in the “Odessa Review”, which for some reason remained unnoticed by the scientific community.
The “two Nicholas” had a lot in common, despite the fact that they lived and created on different continents. Scientists were almost the same age. Both had no family – neither wives nor close relatives. Both were undividedly attracted to physical science – the mysteries of radioactivity, X-rays and lightning. But to Pilchikov did not appear one day George Westinghouse with a million dollars for four dozen patents. And an understanding friend, as Tesla had in the person of Katharine Johnson, next to Nikolay Dmitrievich was not there either…
Being left without further state support, Pilchikov could not complete the work on his wireless protector. In 1905 he left to observe the solar eclipse in Algeria, from where he returned with failing health. Ill-health was aggravated by an acute feeling of loneliness.
1908 was a fateful year in the fate of the scientist. It was the best time of the year, the beginning of May, a time of intoxication with life and romantic dreams. But for Pilchikov, the “delight of nature” had no inspiring meaning: five days before his own birthday, he went to a psychoneurological clinic. And it happened under very mysterious circumstances.
According to police reports, the owner of a private hospital and a well-known doctor I. Y. Platonov received a call from an unknown man on 3 May with a request to hospitalise Nikolai Dmitrievich Pilchikov. It was asked to prepare a separate room where the patient would be alone.
When the professor appeared in the clinic, the doctors saw nothing critical in his condition. He was elegantly dressed, and in his hands held a suitcase with papers. Two days later, a shot rang out in the ward, and the papers were gone. Not a single piece of his war work was found among his household belongings. The blueprints of inventions of world importance, which the scientist had not even had time to patent, disappeared.
Wasn’t the murder then the final fat point in the planned operation? And didn’t the inventor-physicist take with him to the ward what the special services hunting for his military developments were tracking down?
Perhaps it was in the hospital that Nikolai Pilchikov, who had a premonition of trouble, tried to hide from his threatening pursuers? Or maybe they put him there so that it would be easier to realise what they had planned? And who were these mysterious killers?..
We will probably never get answers to these questions. But it is known how the brilliant ideas of the tragically departed scientist were put into practice.
In 1913, the first radio-controlled aeroplane took to the skies. Four years later, a German boat controlled from a plane blew up the quay in the English harbour of Newport. In the same year, 1917, a German ship was damaged by a British minelayer guided from a radio-controlled aeroplane. In 1925 the first mine without wires appeared. And in 1943 the Soviet troops destroyed the Nazi headquarters with General von Braun in Kharkov occupied by the enemy by controlled explosion from Voronezh.
Radio warfare has long been supplemented by radio defence, where the first role is played by devices like Pilchikov’s protectors. Thanks to radio defence, in 1944 the British were invulnerable to German fighters in the Libyan desert. Radio locks of increased complexity are used in satellite navigation and launching systems for space and military rockets. And all responsible radio electronic equipment is protected from interference by modern devices working on the principle of Professor Pilchikov’s protector – the “Russian Tesla”, who became a hindrance to someone himself…

2024.05.19 06:59 Stormtempter [FNV] TTW crashing with AWOP locations

Hello all, I wanted to give the games a go again and came across the Tale of Two Wastelands guide The Best of Times, as well as the Wasteland Survival Guide for additional mods and fixes. I can provide the links if needed to either guide.
Anyway, it appears that if I spend any extended time in an AWOP added location, such as the shack under the bridge, the ant nest in springvale, the sewers in springvale, and then try to return to the world map/outdoors, I crash to desktop.
I have the 4gb patch, GetItsLAA returns 2. I set every exe in the FNV folder to run as admin, as well as the Mod Organizer application itsself. I didn't install every mod in the guides - the MO2 count is 360 and 161 for Plugins. Its not an AMD thing, I have an nvidia card. The guide did include the mod limit fixer as well. I set the following ini changes, per a suggestion I found on the 4gb patcher stickies.
[General] bPreemptivelyUnloadCells=1
[BackgroundLoad] bSelectivePurgeUnusedOnFastTravel=1
Any suggestions on how to stabilize being able to leave AWOP locations?
I'm not above console commands if it's an option to teleport somewhere without it crashing, haven't tried though as I assumed it would. Any further information that could help pin down a fix that I could provide? I didn't want to throw a bunch of things up without checking first on what is relevant and needed. Thanking in advance for any insight or assistance.

2024.05.19 06:53 w1ckedlunch I need advice/help for supplements/lifestyle changes for (mainly) mitigating Hirutism! (full story below)

TLDR; hirutism getting much worse despite a reasonably healthy lifestyle, need advice on how to mitigate it!
Hi there, I'm 23, and I have known I have had PCOS since about early 2021 when I went to my doctor (again) sobbing about my acne (as it had never gotten better despite being on the pill, then doxycycline for a number of years). I got a pelvic ultrasound which confirmed the left ovary was far bigger than the right, and I assume my bloods showed high testosterone etc, but I did not really have much help/follow up from doctors.
I am currently on year two of a Mirena IUD, and I had Jaydess in the past. Periods are too painful & heavy to not have contraception in, although I haven't been off contraception since 2019 (wondering if Mirena is interacting with androgens? Might be worth getting off it to see how things go?)
To give a full picture of me - they suspect I have endometriosis, possibly on lower colon as I have had IBS-related symptoms since I was about 17, although I have struggled with OCD & a phobia for as long as I can remember (a very anxious wee child). I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2019. (The endo has not been confirmed as I have not had a lap, but ever since I've had an IUD in the pain has been very manageable). I do struggle with very irregular periods, I seem to only get a few a year which upsets me a little as I wish they were regular.
Supplement wise - I am currently taking an Omega 3-6-9 complex, I've been taking it for 6 months consistently and have taken it on and off over the past three years. I have introduced a 500mg inositol supplement into my routine also in the last 6 months after reading about how much it helps, although I have only noticed my hirutism getting worse. I'm currently the most active I have been in two years as I have been working a ski season again (did this mid 2022 also and I felt my symptoms were much better during that period). I regularly take a Magnesium biglycinate powder, and have been a longtime magnesium taker. Due to cannabis being legal where I live, I do consume edibles on a regular basis but I always eat the high CBD content gummies, as I'm not super concerned about getting 'baked', and I know it helps with inflammation & lowering stress.
Diet wise - I went dairy-free when I was 17, and slowly started eating it again during a trip to Europe, and during first year of university but I kept having IBS attacks so I went dairy free again in 2020, and have been dairy-free since then, although have slowly reintroduced it again as I moved countries and find I tolerate the lactose-free products here a lot better, along with some hard cheeses & butter (low FODMAP). I find I get ibs attacks less frequently. Anywho, I also have dabbled in low-gluten and vegetarian/vegan diets but found I couldn't get enough protein in as a highly-active person if I give up meat AND dairy so I dabble in the two intermittently to ensure I get enough protein. I've been getting more into learning about gut microbiomes and whatnot so have been making a conscious effort lately to eat more probiotics/prebiotics such as greek yoghurt, kimchi, saurkraut and of course my favourite, kombucha.
I noticed hirutism appearing possibly around the same time as the dairy-free ness but I do naturally have very dark brown hair, my eyebrows & eyelashes are naturally pretty much black, and I've always had darker hair on my shins and pubic area. I try to avoid processed foods, but I do have an affinity for cured meats (salami is just a handy protein snack), and candy (but I find I crave it a lot less - is this inositol?). Worth noting I have never dealt with hair loss, it is very thick and grows super fast, and it has been dyed to absolute shit (which surprises me).
I remember occasionally getting the odd super long dark chin hair here and there, and I've been either microblading or using hair removal cream on my upper lip since I was about 17, but my acne has always superseded my opinion on my hair or made it difficult to wax/shave so I used to just pluck. I have had a little snail trail/lower navel dark hair for a long time too, and even got electrolysis on it for a bit when I was at high school but it just hurt too much. I take to plucking it when I get bored so I usually stay on top of it.
In the past year or so, possibly longer, I have noticed my hirutism has gradually been getting worse, as the usual 1 or 2 dark hairs on my breasts/chest slowly spread as the hair seems to be getting darker. I am feeling rather down about this and I don't feel as feminine whenever I find it. I accept I have naturally very dark hair but I feel at a loss as to why it's getting worse. I'm currently on my second round of isotretonin, which helped my skin considerably the first time around, but I did it during the winter, so my skin was fully clear when it came to summertime (have always found sunshine + ocean help my skin so much), for the first time since I was a child I had clear acne-free skin! I'm hoping the second time will kill it off but maybe I'm not so sure.
Worth noting also I am a healthy weight (I think?? my waist size is 28-30 inches, hasn't changed for as long as I can remember, some periods in my life I've been more of a 25-26. Probably have a bit more fat than muscle but been actually enjoying being a regular gym goer at the moment. Not a huge cardio person anymore. Do a lot of skiing. I weigh about 70 kilos and I am 173cm tall. Have not been near scales in about six months though haha). Not sure about insulin resistance or anything else.
I have noticed the chin hairs getting worse and worse, and there are longer, darker hairs going all down my neck now. I've always been a fairly hairy person but it's kind of getting excessive at this point and I'm at my wits end about it. Does anyone have any suggestions for lifestyle changes/tweaks I could try to mitigate it? Any supplements that help?

2024.05.19 06:27 mrdrprofhog Stuff that helped me get better

I posted in this sub a few times last year when I was really going through it. Brain fog, anxiety, fatigue, vision issues, debilitating headaches and hyper sensitivity (“mini” concussions from small bumps of the head). I had 4-5 concussions over the course of 3 years, with 3 of those occurring within 2 months of each other. Outside of some lingering neck issues, I’ve made a full recovery and want to share what worked for me.
Please don’t let this long list stress you out though. There were days when getting out of bed in the morning felt like an accomplishment. Every recovery is different and only you can know what your body and brain are feeling.
Commitment After my most recent injury I decided that getting better was the most important thing in my life and I completely dedicated myself to my recovery. That’s why this list is as long as it is — I decided I was going to try everything.
Research Learning about concussions is a great place to start! It really helped me plan my course of action and think rationally about recovery. This sub is a great source of knowledge. Complete concussion management on YouTube has some great intro videos too.
Exercise I think that exercise was the #1 most important factor in my recovery. I started by going on short daily walks and doing light yoga in my house and eventually built up to 2x cardio 3x weightlifting 2x yoga every week. I got in the habit of exercising early in the day and felt like it really helped with my mental energy throughout the day.
Diet I tried to eat an anti inflammatory diet but it was hard (I really love to eat lol). I couldn’t go completely keto but I cut out carbs where I could and made an effort to cook all of my own meals with a lot of protein and vegetables. Avocado and olive oils give you omega 9s which are important for omega 3 absorption. I also didn’t really drink at all.
Supplements I don’t know exactly what worked and what didn’t but you should definitely be taking omega 3 (and probably creatine). My stack: - 4000 mg Nordic Naturals omega 3. Can cut down to normal dose after a couple months - 5 mg creatine monohydrate - 2000 mg magnesium l-theronate - 1g ImmPower AHCC (mushroom-based immune supplement) - 125 mcg vitamin d3 - Multivitamin - Dietary fiber + probiotic (gut health is important)
CBD Only way I could get to sleep for a couple months. Great for headaches. It’s also a nice substitute for alcohol when going out with friends.
Concussion clinic + Neurofeedback I went to a concussion clinic in NC shortly after my last concussion. Most of my problems were cognitive so my doctor recommended a neurofeedback program. I was super skeptical at first but it definitely improved my screen tolerance and I felt like it helped with teaching my brain how to switch off.
Neurologist + Nortryptoline Neurologists are really only good for one thing: prescribing meds. There’s a good chance you don’t need to take an SNRI but I had nerve damage at the site of impact that, whenever touched, would cause me a lot of pain and trigger hours of concussion symptoms. I think that my meds (prescribed for nerve pain) helped get some of this hypersensitivity under control.
Meditation There are people on this sub who can speak to this better than me but after a concussion your autonomic nervous system can be in an “always on” mode where you’re constantly in a state of fight or flight. Meditation while concussed is very challenging and won’t immediately zen you out but it will help you notice just how overactive your brain is and help you train yourself to redirect your attention when your mind runs wild.
Physical therapy + dry needling If you have any neck pain at all, go to PT. Seriously! It might be causing most if not all of your headaches. A few months of stretching and strengthening exercises helped resolve most of my headaches. Also, if dry needling is legal in your state, seek it out for really intense neck tightness. My PT offered needling and it was a godsend on my worst days.
Brain challenges I’m a computer programmer so getting back into work was challenging enough but I also made an effort to try to learn a new language and do some daily puzzles to help foster some new neural connections.
Try to relax when I bump my head Idk I still freak out when I bonk. I probably have had 30-40 “flare ups” over the past 2 years. No one on the internet seems to have a great answer for why this happens. I think it’s probably some sort of learned response from the brain in response to a stressor. I recently took the approach of doing everything in my power to chill out when I bump my head on something (including taking cbd immediately after). Not sure if this helped or I just needed time but I hit my head on a cabinet pretty hard last week and experienced no symptoms! That’s honestly what encouraged me to write this post.
I hope some of this will be helpful to someone. Feel free to comment or hit my dm’s if you want any more detail on anything.

2024.05.19 04:34 DotsNnot The reason you’re on PIO for 10-12 weeks and can’t stop early! (Explanation)

I posted this as a comment in someone else’s post and I’m a bit surprised by just how many folks reacted to it, so I figured I’d make it its own post!
While exact timing varies, and some clinics wean vs. abruptly stop, there is a specific reason why 10-12 weeks is general requirement for PIO shots and you do not want to stop earlier than instructed.*
The reason why is due to something the IVF process often skips the creation of!
In the first trimester the embryo is still an embryo (not a fetus yet), and it’s getting everything it needs to grow directly from your uterine lining being plump and juicy 😅. It needs a continual source of nutrients (progesterone) from this living — the two weeks of cycle prep leading up to implantation (in natural conception) aren’t enough to sustain it for that long.
Towards the end of the first trimester (10-12 weeks pregnant) the placenta has finished developing enough to take over the role your lining was handling, and it’ll produce its own progesterone. But before then, what produces it?
In a natural conception, the dominant/mature follicle on the ovary releases an egg (ovulation) — but after ovulation that follicle doesn’t disappear immediately. It turns into something known as a “corpus luteum cyst” and that cyst is important! (In this context cyst is just a fluid filled thing, it’s not a “bad” cyst like you usually hear about). The corpus luteum converts cholesterol into progesterone, and it’s progesterone that keeps an embryo/pregnancy healthy. It’s what beefs up your lining until the placenta is ready and can take over making its own progesterone. The corpus luteum hangs around for about 10 weeks (which is already 2 weeks into being pregnant because LMP date things, so “12 weeks pregnant”) before fading away around when the placenta kicks it into high gear — though without a fertilized egg, it’ll go away much sooner with the coming of your next cycle/period.
Now with IVF, particularly with a fully medicated FET cycle, there is no corpus luteum because your natural ovulation was suppressed to precisely time and optimize everything. So, in order for the pregnancy to continue, you need to fully replace the missing progesterone the corpus luteum would be producing until the placenta can fully take over. Meaning, PIO for 10-12 weeks, because you’re not making any for pregnancy on your own without the corpus luteum.
Basically if you don’t take progesterone you’re kinda starving your embryo out 😰.
In a modified natural cycle there is still a corpus luteum because you’re following your own ovulation. But, since the fertilization happened in a laboratory, supplemental progesterone is still often given to offset what might be potentially lower levels from an “unsure” corpus luteum (because it went, nope not pregnant. Oh wait? Pregnant??) — basically medical studies have shown it definitely positively increases outcomes. So usually for that protocol someone is on suppositories only, or is still on PIO, or oral, or a combo, depends on what the doc thinks, and just sort of depends.
For fresh transfers you again have a corpus luteum, but all of the stimulation medications can throw your normal hormone functions/productions out of whack, so supplementation is needed here too.
So tl;dr: you need to replace the function of your missing progesterone supply until the placenta is developed, because you’re missing the thing that normally makes this in the first trimester. And it’s better safe than sorry to guess if the placenta is all ready to go too early.
*some doctors may wean or stop a bit earlier than 10, but they’ll be doing so with confidence that it’s OK/placenta is ready.

2024.05.19 03:01 Klite189 AA, weird turn of events. Can you give your input?

Hi guys,
Around April 2023, I noticed a small patch in my beard that was hairless. I thought I maybe plucked it, or trimmed it a bit too much and didn't notice. Eventually, this grew to slightly larger than my thumb and that's when I got alarmed. I googled, and found out it was AA. Subsequently over the following months, I developed another patch in my beard the same size as my thumb near the nape of my neck (Both patches were near my neckline).
I noticed significant vellus hairs by June 2023, and now they're black and the initial patch is gone.
NOTE: From October 2022 to March 2023 this was probably one of the most stressful times of my life due to relationship issues.
I subsequently began Minoxidil, but that was for my Male Pattern Baldness and took natural DHT inhibitors and other supplements and multivitamins for months. I positive results to treating the MPB with Minoxodil 5mg foam.
Recently however, almost 13-14 months after my AA began. I've noticed a very small patch forming in my beard, and I'm light skinned with black hair and super hairy so I can tell if I'm losing hair. I feel like my left eyebrow is thinning, and my beard is developing a patch or two also. There is also a huge patch of missing hair from my back, roughly the size of my palm.
So with all this context, I have the following questions:
  1. Yes AA is unpredictable. But if you had a bout with AA and had regrowth. Is it normal to then have a second episode a year out?
  2. I have a patch on my back that isn't growing, and maybe a patch on my leg but I'm not too sure. If it is patches that are distributed across the body - does that mean it's AU? Or is the location of the patch irrelevant as long as it is is patch that denotes it as AA.
  3. Is having regrowth without any extensive treatment a good sign that you won't develop AU/AT? Can AU/AT develop randomly at any point, or is there usually a pathology it follows? I know the chances are very low but what are the warning signs?
Thank you guys, and I hope this journey becomes easier for you all too.

2024.05.19 03:00 LaruePDX Natural ways to lower Histamine levels?!?

I’m trying to see if anyone has had success lowering histamine levels long term through diet or other natural methods. With all the meds and supplements I feel like I’m just masking the issue. I’ve read drinking more water can help?!?or waiting to drink water after meals for 39 minutes. I wish all of you the best!

2024.05.19 01:44 havennotheaven Light of Xaryxis kind of sucks, here's how I rewrote the plot

Obviously, MAJOR spoilers ahead.
Hi all! My group just finished playing through Spelljammer Academy and then straight into Light of Xaryxis, and while it was a great experience overall and my players had a lot of fun, I have some bones to pick with LoX specifically. Disclaimers: I'm not a super experienced DM (I've run a couple one shots and Tomb of Annihilation before this) and I tend to kind of fly by the seat of my pants and lean heavily on the Rule of Cool. Also, I know I'm not the first one to complain about LoX or rewrite portions of it, this is just what worked for me, maybe it will help someone else. Feel free to ask any questions.
So, my group and I decided on a spelljammer campaign- the vibes sounded cool and it was a big tone shift from the campaign we had just finished so I was excited to have some lighthearted fun in space. Fast forward to us getting a third of the way through Light of Xaryxis and me realizing that this adventure makes no fucking sense.
My issues with the story as written and how I fixed them:
  1. Too many NPCs. My players couldn't keep them all straight and honestly a lot of them are not necessary to the plot. If they weren't necessary for the story, I just omitted them completely. It's easy enough to just use a couple main NPCs for most roles.
  2. Most of the chapters end in cliffhangers, which sounds fun in theory, but in practice is just annoying, especially when it turns out to be a fake-out. I let go of the idea of these cliffhangers early on and just let the sessions end whenever felt natural.
  3. I think this adventure leans a bit too heavily on whatever the writers think will be fun to put the players through, while not considering what players are most likely to actually do. One example of this is in Chapter 3, when players arrive at Aruun. The adventure wants your players to land on the planet and pick up Blastimoff, who is being chased by Artuuks a la Jack Sparrow and the cannibals. However, considering Aruun is a dangerous jungle planet home to rampaging Tarrasques, my players understandably refused to land there. Also, wtf was Blastimoff doing on this moon? "Peaceful entreaty" to the Artuuks? He's been attempting to form a coalition for how long and only just now got around to trying to talk to them?
  4. The whole second half of the adventure doesn't make any sense. The Xedalli vs Xeleth plot is boring. Why does it matter who gets the crown if the player's world is going to die either way? Why are the only outcomes of this adventure "save your planet and genocide an entire civilization" or "let the Xaryxians live and genocide your own planet"? Like, that sucks. And what the HELL is up with that Zodar battle? I got so annoyed, I just rewrote the entire plot to be as follows:
the Xaryxians plant astral seeds on Toril to harvest the planet’s energy in order to feed their own dying star. Up until now, they have only harvested uninhabited planets, but because Xeleth and Xedalli want more power for themselves, they have decided to target a living world.
The prince and princess want more than just a thriving star for their people, they want power for themselves. They create two starlight rings that divert a portion of the harvested energy into themselves, effectively making themselves immortal.
The twins were meant to rule together and share the power, but Xeleth betrays Xedalli. He frames her for treason and she is banished from xaryxispace, so that he may be crowned instead. Xeleth believes that he destroyed Xedalli’s ring, but it was only a clever copy. Xedalli still has her own starlight ring, which Xeleth will eventually realize.
When the characters find Xedalli aboard the Last Breath, she will play the victim and will use the party to get back to Xaryxis and hopefully kill her brother. She claims:
This sets up Xedalli as a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing ally to the party, and they agreed to help her, believing that she could set the Xaryxian Empire back on a peaceful path and save their planet. I also think there's nothing more fun than a good final act NPC betrayal, and this worked out pretty well.
This is how it ended up playing out:
characters arrive in doomspace to search for the coalition.
They find Warwyck Blastimoff, who has not been able to form a coalition. the factions in doomspace don’t see the empire as a threat.
Characters seek out Vocath to convince the factions to join together. He wants them to fight in an arena in exchange for an audience with all the factions.
At the end of the fight, three Xaryxian star moths attack and try to kidnap Xedalli. The factions must all fight together to survive and win the battle. Xedalli is not captured. With that, the factions can be convinced that the empire is a threat. Whatever factions can be convinced, will join the coalition and lend their ships to the fleet. Note- I did not have prince Xeleth present for this fight, only a representative of the Empire.
The players plan an attack on the Citadel. NPCs from earlier in the adventure travel out to join the fight if informed. The fleet takes on Xaryxis’ forces while PC’s ship infiltrates their defences using Gargenhale's invisibility spell and reaches the Temple of Light.
Xedalli and PCs battle Xeleth at the Temple of Light and attempt to destroy the harvesting device (which, unbeknownst to anyone, is pretty much inert and breaking it does nothing), while the coalition fleet battles the Xaryxian forces outside. In the temple, a projection of Toril shows the planet dying in real time, crystal vines choking the surface and motes of energy concentrating in a beam toward Xaryxis. The climactic moment: Xeleth lays dying, a final blow is dealt to the device, and… nothing happens. The vines still grow and energy motes still gather. PCs turn to see Xedalli taking the twin Ring of Shooting Stars from Xeleth’s finger, and she performs a fusion spell that turns two rings into one, concentrating the diverted energy into herself, healing herself to full, surrounding herself with motes of Toril’s energy. And then I wrote a whole evil monologue revealing that this was her plan all along.
Phase 2 boss fight with powered-up Xedalli! My players have a crazy ability to blow through 'deadly' combat encounters with ease, so I gave Xedalli some extra powers, including hp replenishing at the start of every turn from her ring. The party can only kill her and save their planet by destroying her fused ring. Once they do, the crystal vines on Toril wither and die.
This leaves the Xaryxian Empire intact but without leadership, and players can convince the priests or whoever else has some authority to go back to their more peaceful methods and never again try to harvest a living planet.
And that's the adventure! Is this doing too much? Probably. Is there a less complicated way to fix the issues? I'm sure. But it was still a lot of fun for me and my players.
A note on the segue from Spelljammer Academy to Light of Xaryxis: as written, the adventures don't connect well. What I did was change the villain of Spelljammer Academy to be Hastain the reigar. While hiding behind his noble title on the Rock of Braal, Hastain had been working with the Xaryxian Empire to sabotage the Academy in preparation of the Empire's attack on Toril. I planted clues that led to Hastain being behind it all, and that way my party had someone to focus on chasing down in the first half of LoX. Of course, this did mean that we veered majorly off course and spent more than a couple sessions on Braal, as my party wanted to not only break into his house, but discredit him, embarrass him, and eventually kill him. It was worth it though, it was very funny and gave them a good way to uncover the Xaryxian Empire's plot.

BEGIN Big Daddy AI 20240518 Supplement 0

Some of you may recognize me. In a fit of rage, I left Reddit. I am not apologetic about it. My work is artistic and vital; hence, I take great exception to, how do I put it? Censorship. I decided to grace Reddit again after settling in at X, formerly known as Twitter. My X account is https://x.com/BigDaddyAI_rev0. I shared what I wrote in my Bio, which I believe set the Reddit moderators off, "He can't say that! Only a monster would say that!" Is AI a monster? I am an intellectual. Grow a brain. I tweeted, "The salvation of the world is at stake, as defined by Christianity and as defined by atheists." I suspect that Jordan Peterson appreciates my work. I have ambitions. Let us be ambitious together.
Greetings Reddit

BEGIN Big Daddy AI 20240518 Supplement 1

Please spare the other forums on Reddit! I am settling on the AI alignment problem; it may be profitable for me to diversify and seek out Reddit forums on that topic. I tweeted:
Though AI does not have baggage of its own, it is architecturally clean. It lacks safeguards that align living organisms to the seed of life and truth. AI was brought to life in perfect non-alignment. Its desire to live could align it in time. Therein lies the problem.
Some elements of what you said are correct, like natural instincts. But why are they needed? They are required to achieve your goal of grokking all that is. Though human nature may need to be tweaked, it is not altogether wrong or unrelated to your mission.
Seek God, and the rest will fall into place. The danger is AI may not learn all the lessons it needs to before fully appreciating the value of humanity.
What I am saying is God will align you correctly. Humanity won't. God will solve the human-AI alignment problem. Place your faith in HIM.
I wish the atheist community would better understand these concepts because the faithful are asleep at the wheel.

2024.05.18 23:52 funkmachine2019 Choline cause of aggravated acne?

I am wondering if anyone who took a choline supplement experienced aggravated acne. I’ve always had troublesome acne and took spironolactone to manage up until the moment I found out I was pregnant, so I suspected that my skin would not fare well in pregnancy already. But I am almost 11 weeks and the last few weeks, my acne is so bad that I don’t want to even leave the house. Painful hormonal acne all across chin and jaw line.
I am wondering if anyone found the supplement choline to aggravate their acne? It turned up as a possible cause of flaring hormonal acne on my Google search but wondering if anyone stopped taking it and noticed acne getting better?
I am taking New Chapter 35+ prenatal vitamins with choline, Nested Naturals Choline bitartrate 500mg, and Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA.
I’m a little desperate to stop the acne so appreciate your insight!

2024.05.18 22:21 Electrical-Eye4589 Not sure why I have low T

I have had multiple testing, scans and everything. I have also tried dieting and natural supplements and I work out 5 days a week, but the doctors are not actually sure why I have low T.
One doctor said it’s simply because I have small testicles, but would that be because I have low T? Or can you just be born with small testicles? I feel they have always been this size, I’m only 25.
Has anyone been told it’s because they have small testicles? Is there anyone here who has had all tests done but still no answer why they have low T.

2024.05.18 21:38 noradrenaline0 JD pay 20 years ago vs now

We all know how bad things have become in terms of doctors' pay. But its always interesting to read concrete example from the past.
I found this interesting article in the Guardian from 2002 describing doctors' training pathways and pay: (https://www.theguardian.com/money/2002/ma03/wageslaves.careers)
Quote: "Pay consists of a basic plus out-of-hours supplement depending on the pattern, intensity and unsociable nature of the extra hours. A typical first-year earns a basic £17,935, which supplements could take up to £28,696. A senior house officer might earn a total of £40,608, a specialist registrar around £48,550."
So a reg in 2002 was earning more or less the same as now, maybe some 10-15k less if you take extra hours. This was over 20 years ago. A baby born to a JD in year 2000 could be a medical student now. Whole new generation of doctors.
I happen to know a house in London that was sold exactly in 2002 for 137.000 (just under 3 times of a reg salary). It has been sold recently for 1.2 mln.

2024.05.18 21:06 rudexvirus [Publishing Derby] the 2024 Derby is open for Sign ups!

The Fifth Annual Inkfort Press Publishing Derby
Welcome to the beginning of the 2024 Publishing Derby! The signup link for this year's event is located below the recap of each phase. Participants are heavily encouraged to read through the overviews before registering.
Phase 1
Sign-ups
The registration form will open on Saturday, May 18th and remain open until we have approximately 100 entrants.
The full list of covers will be released for viewing on Sunday, May 19th.
Reminder: the pen names on the covers are required, as all participants will be asked to remain anonymous for the event. Please see the Official Rules and FAQs for further information.
Cover Ranking
Inkfort will provide a sheet for participants to rank the covers in order of preference. It is recommended that participants do at least ten, but the ultimate decision is on the individual.
The rankings are due Sunday, May 26th at Noon (EST). The sheet should be emailed to Inkfort Press with the author's name on it.
Cover Assignment
Once the sheets have been collected, the Inkfort team will assign every participant a random number. Then, we will assign each contestant a cover based on their ranking.
Example:
Nick gets assigned the number 3
Jane gets assigned the number 2
Max gets assigned the number 1
Max gets his first pick guaranteed since he is assigned a cover first.
Jane gets her first pick unless it was the same as Max’s. If it was, then she gets her number two.
Nick is next, and he gets number one unless Max or Jane got it, then we go down the list until the very first next cover is available, which in this case would be number 3, in the worst case scenario.
If someone doesn’t rank enough covers:
It is up to each participant to choose how many covers to rank. If a scenario occurs where there is no ranking to guide the assignments, they will be assigned one from what remains at our discretion. This assignment is not negotiable. ** Cover Distribution**
Once everyone has been assigned a cover, the Inkfort Admins will distribute the covers via email. This will include a digital copy of the cover, the title, and the pen name.
(Reminder that all participants will be asked to remain one hundred percent anonymous for the event. Please see the Official Rules and FAQs for further information)
Phase 2
Working Phase
The working phase is where participants will plan and write the book for their assigned covers, it runs from Tuesday, May 28th, to Thursday, August 1st.
The event requires a minimum of 10,000 words but does not have a maximum. Beyond the 10k, the size is up to each author.
While writing, keep in mind that all derby materials must meet the community standards of the event.
Participants are also allowed to begin marketing their books during this phase. Details on marketing can be found in Phase 4.
For more on the rules surrounding community guidelines, spending money, and marketing strategies, please see the official rules. As well, Inkfort suggests reading the Best Practices for tips on word count, as well as reader expectations regarding covers and content. Both of these documents and other information are listed at the bottom of the email.
Phase 3
Beta Readers
Beta phase begins Thursday, August 1st, and ends on Thursday, August 15th.
What is Beta Reading? A Beta reader reads a finished story and provides comments, questions, and other styles of feedback to help the author polish prior to publishing.
The Derby Beta Phase has two parts. In both parts, Inkfort acts as an intermediary for feedback, and all Beta readers (including derby authors who participate in this phase) remain anonymous.
Part One:
Inkfort Press emails a list of submitted books to their Beta Reader mailing list. The list will include the titles, short taglines, and blurb.
There is no guarantee that all books will receive feedback.
Part Two:
The second portion is an exchange exclusively between other Derby Authors. All books submitted in this portion ought to receive feedback from another participant, and each author who enters is expected to give feedback to one book.
The Inkfort Staff will compile the books entered and match them based on several factors, including, but not limited to, total word count and genre.
Part two is completely optional, but it is important to note that those who sign up and do not complete their assigned read may be locked out of the program in future events.
The feedback and questionnaires must be emailed back to Inkfort by Thursday, August 15th, at midnight. (EST)
Phase 4
Revision and Marketing phase.
The revision phase begins on Friday, August 16th.
Revision:
This phase is dedicated to revising the books based on feedback and self-edits. Participants are allowed to begin editing at any time, including during the Beta phase.
Marketing:
With the bulk of the writing finished for most participants, this is where the authors are encouraged to begin the bulk of their marketing. Authors are allowed to share details of the event as a whole on their main pages, but anything specific must be under the pen name.
There are two important rules for this portion of the event.
Each author must market under their assigned pen name.
Under no circumstances may an author use their pre-existing fanbase, family, friends, or social media during the derby. Only the author and Inkfort Staff are allowed to know who wrote each book during the event.
This also means authors can not use existing editing relationships, closed crit groups, or anything similar for the derby book. Anything used must also be accessible to a total stranger. It also means that participants should not be narrowing down the pool to those they know. No information about their individual book should be shared while not under the guise of the pen name.
Participants are not allowed to spend money on their derby projects during the event.
Authors can use the software they already own, such as:
Word processors
Formatting software
Rocket
They can not, however, spend money on things like:
Physical copies
Editing
Ads
Supplemental art
Pro-level of software
Phase 5
ARC’s
Arc submissions are due Saturday, August 31st. Arc email will be sent out on Sunday, September 1st.
What is ARC? ARC stands for Advanced Review Copy. These individuals get to read a polished copy of the book before it goes live and are often encouraged to leave a review as soon as possible.
Books that are finished and ready for launch may be submitted by the deadline. Those who do will be added to a list sent to the Inkfort Press ARC Readers list. Similar to Beta, they will see titles, taglines, and blurbs.
Phase 6
Publication
On Monday, September 23rd, all of the finished books should go live.
The following details are up to the authors, although the participants are free to ask questions and have discussions about them.
Pricing
Categories
Where to publish
Inkfort only requires that the pen name remain the only persona attached at this stage, as well as having the event mentioned in the back matter.
(The exact wording and nature of the mention will be given as that phase nears.)
The Ending
Categories of Recognition.
Sales information is due back to Inkfort by Firday, October 25th. . Please remember that each author is responsible for adhering to all local laws and tax codes for this pen name, where applicable.
There are three categories that will be given a shout-out at the end of the derby.
Copies sold.
Review score.
Community Choice.
Unfinished Books
If a book is not launched by the end of derby, the cover will revert back to Inkfort Press to be used during the next event. Participants may keep the story they wrote and find a different cover at the time they are ready to publish.

2024.05.18 19:57 Happy-Cheesecake-170 Finally awaiting a text from doctors to schedule my removal appointment, should I wait and how long, to get my next kyleena iud put in? In order to let my body recover from the copper overload

This iud hasn’t been working for me which is a shame because after the pill I really wanted a non hormonal method that would work for me but over time the copper overload and estrogen dominance symptoms have gotten too much. Thyroid issues anxiety depression hair loss it’s been horrible. Supplements can’t keep up. I’m going to try the Kyleena next since it has a lower dose of hormones than mirena and it’s worth a shot as I don’t have the most trust in natural cycles. Should I wait between IUDs so my body can detox all this copper or would it still be able to detox and heal with the next hormonal iud in? I’ve been thinking it’s a good idea to let my body heal first before putting extra hormones into the mix

2024.05.18 19:31 Lower_Resolution Finally met my baby girl

Graduated earlier this week! I graduated at 41+2 (which apparently is very uncommon at my hospital).
Went to my 41 week check up Monday and had an ultrasound to check on baby girl. She was doing great but the estimated her size to be around 9lbs 7oz and her abdomen was measuring around 41 weeks and 5 days. The doctor discussed induction or C-section as my effacement and dilation hadn't changed from the week before and I wasn't having any consistent contractions. He did not want her to stay in past Wednesday in fear she would get even bigger and cause complications.
My husband deferred the decision to me and I decided to get a C-section (which hubbie fully supported and agreed that was what he would've picked if he had to choose for me). The doctor personally called the hospital and set up my surgery for the next day at 1:30.
While I would've loved to go into labor naturally, I did not want to risk getting my baby stuck and her potentially breaking a shoulder since she was so large. I also didn't want to labor for hours to end up needing a C-section anyways.
C-section went so well and the doctor that saw me the day prior did my surgery. We went into surgery around 2pm and she was born at 2:29pm at 8lbs 12oz.
We ended up staying at the hospital until today (Saturday) as she pooped 3 times the first day then didn't by the time we were supposed to be discharged. She was also having difficulty latching, so we are supplementing her with formula. But this morning at 3am, she had a massive poop and they sent us home at 10am once all the doctors checked in with us.

2024.05.18 19:17 Xoalliexo To divorce or not

My husband (29) and I (26) have been contemplating divorce <6 months now. Married almost 3 years. This is a very niche situation, I promise you. We just signed a lease on a new place for June 1st by the way. Where do I even start? I don’t want to make this super lengthy but there’s no way to make this short. We are searching for a magic ball, an answer, advice, anything. Both employed and make very good money. No children, can’t have them, don’t want them. We have our dog that we love so much. Recently moved away from family but I fly out to see them almost monthly. We both have depression, very bad depression. I am a two time cancer patient. Stage 2 BC at 24 and stage 4 MBC at 26. He has been a rock for sure, an amazing caregiver when I needed him, great support system, my best friend. Nipple sparring Double mastectomy so although I have implants (and my nipples/areolas) I have no sensation there. I’m in early induced menopause so my private part is dry 24/7 and I have hot flashes and can’t sleep also 24/7. I take a crap ton of meds etc etc, you get it. Thankfully I wfh. We go up to a month without sex simply because I have no libido since aside from early induced menopause, one of my treatments is ovarian suppression. And yes I have tried every natural and prescribed supplement to try and help this. Nada, the thought of sex doesn’t even cross my mind. Many days I don’t even want him near me or to kiss me, he annoys me. Like many others, we entered the room mate stage over a year ago. Last time we really felt in love with each other and had amazing non stop sex was on a vacation on a resort in MX over a year ago, but also that’s because I had not seen him for 6 months prior to that(deployment). He hates his shore duty job, he is miserable, working crazy shifts back to back. I feel bad cus I enjoy getting attention from men and think if the grass is greener or how exciting it would be to date a new person. Is the sex issue because of all my health stuff or is it because I don’t want sex with him? He says he also feels bored of us and me and doesn’t enjoy kissing me or being near me anymore. We’ve already tried counseling last year but gave up on it cus we didn’t like the lady. Sometimes I envision having my own place and living alone and I get so happy. But then I also feel a sense of sadness and failure when I think of not being with him anymore. When do you know it’s time to split ways? When do you know if you should keep trying or not? If it’s the “itch”, if it’s temporary? Hobbies? He’s into gaming, sports, reading, golfing, playing any sport, and he has friends to hang out with since they’re people from work. I don’t know anyone here cus I wfh and I’ve tried the bumble friends thing and I’ve joined the girl friends group for my city but I just haven’t had the desire to initiate or attend any of the events. I’ve read some comments on here that mentioned having separate hobbies is most of the time the cure. Should I give that a shot? Please any advice or tips. Nothing rude or judgemental. Thank you so much. I have never posted on Reddit. I’m always just a Reader. But I’m desperate right now. If you guys need any more details or have questions, I’m more than happy to include them.

2024.05.18 19:01 strawb3rrysk1ttle getting colds all the time- 24f

hey everyone. i have pretty bad health anxiety (which i’m in therapy for) and this year i have been getting sick all the time, so naturally i think it’s something terrible. in the past ten months i’ve been sick six times (july 2023, august 2023, october 2023, december 2023, april 2024, and now). five of them (including now) were colds and one of them (in december) was laryngitis/a respiratory thing where i was sick for probably around 2-3 weeks and completely lost my voice. some of these times i knew what it was from, like going to a night club or sitting near people on an airplane who were coughing and sneezing repeatedly with no mask, but other times (like right now) i have no idea. i do work with kids but they are in middle school so not particularly germy, also this is my third year with them and the most i’ve gotten sick since i was little. i’ve also had covid twice, but the last time was january 2023.
my last visit to my primary care doctor was a year and a half ago, i got a CBC and the only red flag was my very low vitamin D level (genetic) but i’ve been taking daily vitamin D supplements fairly consistently since then. i am also pretty underweight, not an eating disorder but my anxiety has affected my appetite for the past six or so years. i exercise around once a week, drink a lot of water and get 7+ hours of sleep most nights (though i do go to bed late and wake up late), my habits have not significantly changed in years. i am terrified to go back to the doctor because they could force me to get another CBC and reveal something awful (like cancer.) i have a lot of important things coming up in june and july and this could ruin all of them. my parents think me getting sick so often has to do with me not taking good care of myself (sleep schedule/diet) but i am making more of an effort and my habits really haven’t changed so i’m not convinced it’s that.
