2024.05.19 09:32 RedditAwesome2 ACL reconstruction (+MCL/LAT Meniscus injury)- Do NOT Skip Pre-hab. No pain, no brace, one crutch DAY 1 Post-Op. WTF.

I just wanted to share my experience here and as I had never seen something like this and I actually had an OVERWHEMINGLY positive experience with this surgery. I realise there is luck + age(29) involved but pre-hab really paid off.
There will be a tl;dr + my final PREHAB exercises.
On march 3rd I tore my MCL (2nd degree) + ACL (full tear) + Lateral meniscus (2nd degree leision) from my MRI. I couldn’t bear any weight and upon ER visit I was given a brace.
First 30 days I wore the brace (because of the torn MCL which requires it to heal on its own) and could only put a very minimal amount of weight on my injured leg. Did that, then started PT on day 30.
Day 30 after injury - had no muscle on my leg, couldn’t bend my knee at all. Had my first PT session where they removed my brace. I started PT 3 times a week at a sports centre where they also worked with the best surgeons in my city. PT was kind of painful and started out slow but it was getting better each day. On week 2 of PT I started doing all the exercises at home on rest days, so basically I did PT 7 times per week.
Day 60 after injury - was supposed to have my surgery here but my Physio suggested to my surgeon to delay. I still went for a check up where my surgeon said he could have done the surgery that week and it was good enough but I/We declined and opted in to wait another 2 weeks of PT. At this point in time my leg was still a bit stiff but after warming up I could bend it properly. My extension was also pretty good / flat but couldn’t match my hyperextension.
Day 60 - 74 after injury - I kept going hard at PT for the last two weeks before surgery, sometimes I did PT at home twice, even went for stationary bike at the gym. At this point for the extra added two weeks, my leg actually started feeling like my own leg again. The progress, as suggested by my PT, was INSANE. Day and night difference. Some days still felt a bit stiff but I was able to lower the bicycle seat a lot, gained a bunch of muscle back, swelling in the mornings was VERY minimal. I could sleep on my side etc. I felt like a normal person again. Sure I could only walk slowly but I didn’t have ANY limp anymore, so much that car drivers would get annoyed at me at crossroads for walking slowly.
Day 75 after injury - SURGERY DAY. I went in pretty nervous but I talked to my PT who as I mentioned also worked at the clinic and was there right before my surgery. He gave me encouraging words but I was still in panic mode. My turn for surgery came, went in, had the ?partial anasthesia where you stop feeling your legs which felt super weird to me. I was still pretty nervous and kind of shivering so they asked if I wanted full anasthesia or just some sort of drugs added to my systems to relax. I said I wanted the funny thing (LOL) and sure enough, the nurse puts in the funny thing and within what felt like 30 seconds, I started laughing in my head and hearing my own voice saying funny shit like “lol finally getting surgery this shits cool haha”. It felt super weird as my anxiety disappeared within seconds. That’s when the surgeon popped in my view and told me the good news - my meniscus had healed properly (as well as the MCL) since I wore the brace for 30 days after injury and did prehab. The guys at my prehab place did tell me most times with the brace and prehab the meniscus can fix itself but I didn’t think that would be my case. So when surgeon told me I did a big thumbsup, laughed a bit and said some dumb shit like “awesome” lol. My entire 2 hour ACL surgery felt like 5 minutes after they had put in the “relax” drug. I loved it, I barely remember any of it other than seeing my leg being thrown around a bit. DEFINITELY ASK FOR THE FUNNY DRUG IT MADE ME SO CALM AND HAPPY (I never do any other drugs, rarely drink etc but this felt like getting verrrryyy tipsy right before going black out drunk usually lol). Surgery’s done, it’s a success, they send me back to my room. This place also uses drainage for 48hr so you stay in the clinic. I kept waiting for the pain to arrive but I was so buzzed up with the funny things and kept telling each nurse how good the stuff they put in me was LOL. I probably still looked worried as they kept making jokes about me being very worried and how they’d take care. They kept asking me if I had any pain and that’s when I used my REDDIT KNOWLEDGE and told them my pain was 1/10 but I heard you wanna take meds preemptively as if you feel any pain - meds not gonna work. Some time passed and they gave me the hardcore painkillers in my veins. They had some “program” where they give you stuff each 4 hours. I felt NO PAIN AT ALL. My accident felt WORSE than laying in the hospital bed post op. I kept waiting for the pain to arrive but it never did.
ONE DAY POST OP - I was playing on my switch when at about 9 AM my PT storms into the room and starts telling me to quit playing lmao. He asked me if I could do a leg raise, and sure enough I could. I knew I could because while laying down I kind of kept checking my mind muscle connection and even after surgery I could still feel my muscles. He tells me to do 25 and he’ll be back later. Mind you, 25 leg raises with a drainage and a heavy-ish brace, under painkillers that were given me an hour earlier as part of the 1 per 4 hour things. But I was able to do them.
Fast forward one hour and my PT is back. He’s telling me that we’re gonna start walking. I’m happy and get up. Immedietely a bit lightheaded so I took some water and was standing up on two crutches. They had previously shown me how to use crutches at PT, so I tried to walk as fast and normal looking as possible. To my shock, 3 steps in, my PT literally laughed and KICKED THE BACK OF MY OPERATED LEG and said “go faster nothing to worry about, I don’t gave much time here lol”. The kick kinda hurt but it made me more confident walking. I did about 10-15 steps on two crutches, he told me to not lean on them but just use for balance. Did some more steps and he literally grabbed one of my crutches and ran away laughing. Told me that I only need one and sure enough - I could walk with one crutch (and the basic support brace). He then taught me how to go up and down stairs and gave me 6 exercises to do in my hospital bed. I did them and that was it. He said “no limit on walking and bear as much weight as you can”. I literally couldn’t believe it. Day ONE post op, one crutch. I had NEVER even read a story like that on this sub. Felt crazy good to know that doing the 6 weeks PT with him saved me so much trouble. As a side note, the other patients in my room, some of which with the same doctor felt TRAMENDOUS amount of pain, couldn’t sleep, kept hearing them do little screams from the pain etc. etc. etc. I was the only one who did extreme PT before surgery from my room.
Day 2 post op - had drainage AND BRACE removed and was told to only rest up to not have any more swelling (drainage is used to remove swelling basically). So I laid around in the hospital bed, got up to the toilet a few times and could only walk with one crutch no brace and that was day 2.
Day 3 post op - I went home, managed to fit in car front seat, did the exercises I was told to do and could sort of walk one crutch only to get around even tho it was not easy and felt a bit sus.
——
My FINAL PRE-OP list of PT EXERCISES in the correct order: 1. 12-15 minutes of stationary bike on the lowest possible seat where I felt no pain or light in my knee. 2. 3x15 or climbing up a stair, as high as I could. You put your injured leg on the stair, you climb up with your other leg and then put the other leg back on the ground. At this time I could do a pretty good height on this exercise and do slow negatives. The height was about 3 standart staircase steps or 3x a regular stepper. 3. 3x20 slowly walking down a stair, from as high as possible. Walking down was harder for me, so my maximum was about 2 steps high (66% of climbing). You step on the top step and use your healthy leg to touch the ground and then “jump” back up on your injured leg which never leaves the higher step. 4. 4x20 Squatting on a very low bench. Basically slowly sitting down to something as low as you can while making sure to bend your knees equally. I could do this at two steps heigh where my knees would bend quite a bit more than 90 degrees. Still felt a bit of pain here 5. Walk around for 30-60 sec instead of rest between all of these. If I had energy left, I would add in a few mins at the bike at a lower seat.
That’s it, do all of them as slowly as possible. I did these sometimes twice a day if I had the willpower and my knee felt good. Also used ice after doing them sometimes and made sure to have mind muscle connection and use my injured leg as much as possible. ——-
Tldr; DO PRE-HAB. Managed to walk one crutch only DAY ONE after ACL reconstruction with a temporary brace that was removed day two and went out of the hospital on just one crutch. Only minor pain after surgery 2/10. A bit painful to walk around and bear weight but that’s as expected. Do your prehab because others in my room couldn’t walk at all and were in agonizing pain for 3 days after surgery.
Thanks for reading, I hope this post is helpful for fellow sports lovers. I am 29 years old / 6’1 / 180 lbs, did mostly bodybuilding at the gym and bicycle.

I recently got my hands on the upra Ultimate Car Duster Kit, and I must say, this is the best car duster set I've ever used. Not only does it have a sturdy build that won't fall apart or unravel over time, but it also features a special design and tight joint that prevents snagging things on or in my car.
One of the things that stood out to me the most was the set's large car duster with a minimum length of 22.8 inches and a maximum length of 32.6 inches. Along with the circular one measuring 11.8 inches in diameter and 4.33 inches in length, and a mini car air vent duster with a dimension of 6.3 inches, this kit has got me covered for all my car cleaning needs.
The fine material applied, high-class microfiber, makes sure I leave no lint or wax behind – something I appreciate when I want my car to look as good as new both indoors and outdoors. With its powerful dust or dirt removing performance, this car duster has saved me a significant amount of time and money and works for all vehicle types, from trucks to SUVs and even motorcycles.
Now, I must say, it does require some maintenance, but it's worth the investment considering how efficient and easy to operate it is. Upra really knows how to create a top-notch product, and their Ultimate Car Duster Kit is the perfect proof of that.

The California Mini Duster has been a game-changer in my daily life. I've been using it for dusting both at home and in my car, and let me tell you, it's made a huge difference in the cleanliness of my interiors.
One of the standout features of this product is the baked-in wax treatment. It's not just a cleaner, but also a protector for my vehicle's interior. I've noticed that after using the Mini Duster, the surfaces seem to have a nice shine, which is thanks to that special wax treatment.
However, one downside I've found is that while it's great for dusting, it does tend to leave a bit of lint behind. Not a lot, but enough to notice. I've had to shake it out a few times, and I've even ended up using a small brush to get rid of the excess lint.
The Mini Duster's compact size is another plus, making it perfect for on-the-go use. It fits in the palm of my hand and doesn't take up much space in my car, which is super handy.
Using the Mini Duster has made me appreciate just how much dust I didn't realize was lying around. Now, I find myself using it all the time, and I can definitely say that it's been a great addition to my cleaning arsenal.

The Original California Car Duster Platinum Mini Dash Duster has been a game-changer in my life. The special paraffin wax-treated cotton strands make it super easy to lift dust off without leaving any marks behind.
The attractive wood handle is not only visually appealing but also sturdy and comfortable to hold. While I enjoy using it for auto purposes, its versatility has proven to be beneficial in my home as well. However, I must mention a minor inconvenience - there was no vinyl storage bag included as mentioned.
Nonetheless, it's a fantastic product worth considering for anyone seeking an effortless solution to dust removal.

🔗Soft Microfiber Car Duster for Scratch-Free Cleaning

As someone who's always on the lookout for a car duster that leaves no trace, I gave the bzczh Soft Microfiber Car Duster a try. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer.
This duster is incredibly soft, making it perfect for gently removing dust from the exterior of your car without causing any damage. I'm impressed by how well it picks up even the tiniest particles, leaving my car's surface spotless.
The extendable handle is really convenient, allowing me to reach those hard-to-reach spots without straining my back. And the best part? No pesky lint, pollen, or swirl marks to worry about.
However, one downside I noticed is that the duster seems to lose some of its softness after a few washes. But it's not a deal-breaker, as the results are still noticeably better than what I've experienced with other dusters.
In conclusion, the bzczh Soft Microfiber Car Duster definitely lives up to its name, providing a gentle yet effective solution for keeping your car's exterior dust-free. Despite the minor downside, its pros outweigh the cons, making it a great choice for anyone looking for a car duster that truly delivers.

I recently discovered the TAKAVU Interior Car Detail Duster and couldn't be happier with the result. As a car enthusiast, I've been searching for a dusting solution that not only leaves my vehicle looking incredible but also doesn't require constant maintenance.
This car duster truly exceeded my expectations. Its electrostatic microfiber chenille is a game-changer, as it captures and locks away dust and debris without leaving traces of lint or residue behind. I appreciated how effortlessly it tackles various surfaces, from my car's interior to other items around the house.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with the design. The duster occasionally needed some repositioning to ensure complete coverage, but it was a small price to pay for the overall results.
Despite this minor inconvenience, I still highly recommend the TAKAVU Interior Car Detail Duster. Its ability to leave my car's interior spotless has saved me countless trips to the car wash, and it has become a staple in my detailing toolkit. Plus, it's an excellent gift for car lovers in your life!

🔗Car Duster with Solid Wood Handle and Soft Dusting Fibers

I recently received the Classic Car Duster with a solid wood handle for my daily car maintenance. The long and narrow design of the duster allows me to easily access those tight and hard-to-reach areas, making it a fantastic tool for those who are particular about their car's appearance.
One of the most significant features that stood out to me was the 3-inch long threads, which attract and lift dust from the vehicle's surface. I've noticed a marked improvement in the overall cleanliness and shine of my car thanks to this duster.
However, it is essential to note that due to the 100% cotton construction, there may be some lint and wax residue during the initial use. But once this product breaks in, it becomes even softer and continues to perform exceptionally well for years to come. Frequent shaking before, during, and after use helps to prevent this issue.
Lastly, I appreciate the durable storage cover included in the package, which ensures the duster remains in pristine condition when not in use. Overall, I highly recommend this Classic Car Duster for anyone looking to achieve that showroom finish every time.

🔗Extendable Car Duster Set with Anti-Rust Stainless Steel Brush

Riding around in a dusty car is never fun, but with the Ride Kings Car Duster Set, it's become easier to keep your vehicle clean. This clever car duster set comes with an extendable handle, perfect for reaching areas like the roof, windshield, and hood of large vehicles. The ergonomic handle is soft and comfortable to grip, even during long cleaning sessions.
One of the standout features of this car duster set is its dual-brush head. The large brush head covers a larger area and quickly removes dust, while the smaller brush is perfect for tackling those hard-to-reach spots. The set also comes with a stainless steel brush rod that's light yet strong, with a non-slip, soft foam handle for even more convenience.
What's especially cool about this car duster set is its portability. The brush set can be carried in the trunk of your car for easy use during road trips. With its removable brush head, you can easily fold it and store it for optimal travel convenience.
Not only is this car duster set functional, but it's also eco-friendly. Its paraffin-treated cotton thread can effectively remove dust and pollen without using water, making it ideal for those living in desert or coastal areas.
One minor drawback is that the Ride Kings Car Duster Set is not suitable for wet use. But overall, with its retractable handle, flexible brush head, and gentle touch, this set is the perfect addition to any car care routine.

🔗Universal Car Duster with Extension and Rotation Features

https://preview.redd.it/egfr6fw3pb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2fcae20c7622a79fa25057293f5f5285612ce2af
A few weeks ago, I decided to try out the Triple Threat Extending and Rotating Truck and RV Duster from California Car Duster. As someone who's always on the go, I needed a versatile duster that could handle my busy lifestyle. I was curious to see if it could live up to the hype and clean my dusty SUV with ease.
Right out of the box, I was impressed with the duster's aluminum handle. The extension feature made it simple to adjust the length, reaching high areas like the roof of my vehicle. The larger duster head was perfect for getting into tight spaces and hard-to-reach corners in my SUV and garage.
However, I did notice a small issue with the rotating feature - it didn't spin as freely as I would have liked. And at times, the brush seemed to move dust around instead of lifting it efficiently. Still, I could see the wax-treated 100% cotton mop working its magic on lighter dust.
The best part was the convenient storage bag that came with it. I could easily slip it in the back of my SUV when I needed to use it, and keeping the duster in a safe place ensured it would always be clean and ready to use when I needed it.
Overall, the Triple Threat Extending and Rotating Truck and RV Duster from California Car Duster was a helpful addition to my car care routine. It made cleaning my SUV quicker and more efficient, and the extension feature and storage bag were thoughtful touches. While there were some minor drawbacks, I would still recommend this duster to anyone looking for an easy and effective way to keep their SUV or RV clean.

The OCM Premium Extra Large Car Duster has been a game-changer in my daily life. Its robust design, combined with its lightweight nature, makes it effortless to use. The marine varnished solid wood handle adds a touch of sophistication, while the duster's head is crafted from superb 100% cotton threads.
These cotton threads are infused with a unique wax formula, which makes them gentle and perfect for cleaning delicate surfaces. However, it's essential to note that the duster may initially leave some lint and wax residue as you use it for the first few times. This is completely normal, and the residue will gradually diminish as the duster breaks in and gets softer.
The duster boasts an extra-large head which significantly reduces cleaning time and ensures that your car or truck always has a shiny, showroom finish. Its durability is unmatched, and its storage cover, made of heavy gauge vinyl, ensures the duster head is protected while not in use.
Overall, this OCM Premium Extra Large Car Duster is a worthwhile investment for anyone who wants a top-quality car detailing product that saves time and money. The duster's excellent performance, combined with its ease of use, makes it a no-brainer for professional detailers and enthusiasts alike.

I've been using the California Duster for months now, and it's been a game-changer for keeping my car's interior clean and free of dust. The paraffin wax-treated cotton mop is perfect for its intended purpose, providing an effortless and gentle dust-lifting experience without damaging my car's surfaces.
One of the most notable features of the California Duster is its clever design, with a rounded shape that makes reaching even the trickiest corners and tight spaces a breeze. Not only does this help keep my dashboard looking pristine, but it also works wonders on various household surfaces, from mini blinds and shutters to appliances.
However, there is one downside to the California Duster: its relatively short length. I've found myself needing to contort my arm in some positions to reach certain areas, which can be a bit uncomfortable after a while.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend the California Duster for anyone looking to keep their car or home interior in tip-top shape without causing any damage. It might be a bit short for some users, but it's a small price to pay for an effective and eco-friendly product.

🔗Unique Ostrich Feather Duster for Car Cleaning

For the past couple of weeks, I've been using the Aldwin Ostrich Feather Duster as part of my daily house cleaning routine. Let me tell you, it's like having a little army of soft, fluffy soldiers fighting against dust and grime. Each feather feels like a million tiny cleaning superheroes, gently gliding through the air, tackling every smudge and speck in their path.
One of the things I love about this duster is its eco-friendliness. The feathers are sourced from farmed ostrich, ensuring no harm is done to the environment or endangered species. And the fact that the feathers are washed, deodorized, deinsectized, and fumigated before use? That's just an extra bonus.
The wooden handle is a great addition, providing a sturdy connection between the feathers and the handle. It's just one of those things that makes this duster feel solid and reliable in your hand. And speaking of handling, the ostrich feathers are static-free, which means they don't leave any annoying little particles on your clothes or furniture.
The best part is that this duster is reusable and washable. You can simply wash it in warm water and let it dry, and it's as good as new. It's like having a little cleaning companion that you can take anywhere, from your home to your car.
However, I will say that the duster does require a bit of care when it comes to storing it. Since the feathers are delicate, it's important to hang it or place it in a vase where it won't be crushed or bent. But all in all, it's a fantastic product that's made a significant difference in my cleaning routine.

I've been using the Original California Car Duster Black Mini Duster in my car for a few weeks now, and I must say, it's a game-changer. What stands out the most is its ability to lift dust from even the toughest to reach spots, both inside and out. The baked-on wax-treated cotton strands are soft yet effective, making the cleaning process effortless.
One downside I've noticed is that it can be a bit bulky for smaller vehicles, but its compact size is perfect for most cars. I also appreciate that it's lightweight and easy to use. The mini duster comes with a convenient storage bag, making it a great addition to any vehicle owner's cleaning toolkit.
All in all, the Original California Car Duster Black Mini Duster has made a positive impact on my daily life. It's easy to use, effective, and best of all, it's durable and doesn't require any maintenance or replacements. Highly recommended for anyone looking to keep their car clean and dust-free.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to maintaining the cleanliness of your car's interior, a car duster is an essential tool. It helps remove dust, dirt, and debris from your car's surfaces without causing any scratches. However, with so many different car dusters on the market, it can be challenging to know which one is right for you. Here are some important features, considerations, and advice to help you make the best choice.

Material

https://preview.redd.it/45261a48pb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bb60155d2d64389b39dcb6343228374d08ab0e0
The material of the car duster is crucial. It should be made of soft, non-abrasive, and durable material that won't damage your car's interior. Common materials include microfiber, cotton, and polyester. Microfiber is a popular choice because it's soft, gentle, and effective at picking up dirt and dust. However, it may be more expensive than other materials. Cotton and polyester are also good options, but they might not be as effective at picking up fine dust as microfiber.

Size and Shape

The size and shape of the car duster can impact its effectiveness and ease of use. Look for a duster with a head that's large enough to cover a significant area but not so large that it's difficult to maneuver. The shape should be designed to cover a wide range of surfaces, such as dashboard, console, and seats. Some car dusters come with different attachments for specific tasks, like cleaning vents or tight spaces.

Handle Length

The length of the handle can make a big difference in your comfort and reach. Consider the height of your car's interior and ensure the handle is long enough to reach all areas easily. If you have a low-slung car or need to clean high areas, look for a car duster with an adjustable handle.

Maintenance

A car duster should be easy to clean and maintain. Look for a duster with a removable and washable head to make cleaning simpler. Some car dusters also come with a storage bag or pouch to keep them organized when not in use.

Price

Price is always an important factor when considering a product. Car dusters can range in price from budget options to high-end models. Consider how much you're willing to spend and what features are most important to you when deciding on a car duster. Remember that a higher price doesn't always guarantee better quality.

Reader Reviews and Ratings

https://preview.redd.it/4fxm55l9pb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c50b823120cc07622f381f7e6eb282f1d0bf0791
Reading reviews and ratings from other buyers can help you make a more informed decision. Look for car dusters with high ratings and positive reviews. Pay attention to feedback on ease of use, durability, and effectiveness.
When it comes to choosing the right car duster, it's essential to consider factors like material, size, shape, and maintenance. By doing your research and finding the best car duster for your needs, you'll be able to keep your car's interior clean and beautiful.

FAQ

What is a Car Duster?

A Car Duster is a tool commonly used by car enthusiasts and professionals to quickly and easily remove dust, dirt, and debris from cars. It is designed to avoid the scratches and swirls that can be caused by regular wiping or cleaning methods.

https://preview.redd.it/3oqpq5t9pb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abefd10fcbf64ae101739735bd1ee0fc4103d462

How does a Car Duster work?

A Car Duster typically consists of a soft, microfiber cloth that is loosely attached to a handle. When the user lightly runs the duster across the car's surface, the static electricity built up in the microfiber cloth attracts and picks up dust and dirt particles. This method helps to prevent scratching, as the cloth does not have to physically rub against the car's surface.

What types of Car Dusters are available?

There are several types of Car Dusters available in the market, such as: * Flat Car Dusters
  • Rectangular Car Dusters
  • Half-Round Car Dusters
  • Fiber Wand Car Dusters
Different types of Car Dusters cater to varying needs and preferences, and it's essential to choose the one that works best for you based on your requirements.

Can a Car Duster be used on all car surfaces?

Yes, a Car Duster can be used on most surfaces of a car, including exterior paint, windows, mirrors, and even the interior. However, it is crucial to avoid using it on delicate areas such as rubber trim or plastic parts that can get damaged by static. Always read the product instructions and test it on a small, inconspicuous area before use on any specific part of the car.

How often should I use a Car Duster?

The frequency of using a Car Duster depends on your personal preference and the level of dust and debris your car accumulates. However, it is generally recommended to clean your car regularly to prevent dirt buildup, protect the paint, and maintain its overall appearance. A weekly or bi-weekly maintenance routine can ensure your car stays clean and well-maintained.

How do I clean and maintain my Car Duster?

To clean your Car Duster, you can simply wipe it thoroughly with a damp cloth, or use a mild detergent and water solution if it's severely dirty. After cleaning, allow the duster to air dry completely to prevent any mold or mildew growth. To maintain the effectiveness of the duster, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prolong its lifespan.

2024.05.19 07:16 twitchingguy Shimano GRX for flat bar updates

I’m looking to buy a flat bar gravel bike and the one I’m looking at the FX Sport has the old GRX 600. I read that the new 8 and 6 series are much improved but are for drop bar only. Is it possible Trek will get a flat bar version for their bikes or does Shimano need to release it first? I’m not quite sure how that all works.
Also I’ve read the new 6 series incorporates old 8 series technology but couldn’t find specifics. I know it’s 12 vs 11 speed but wondered what other improvements were made.
I greatly prefer no front derailleur.

2024.05.19 06:49 twitchingguy Questions about FX Sport and components

I’m shopping for a new bike and have more or less settled on an FX Sport. I test rode a 6 today but I didn’t like the loud clicking. From what I’ve read this is from the free hubs of the Aeolus 35 wheels. And that hubs aren’t easy to replace. So that made me wonder if the FX 5 hubs also click. And wondered if any of the carbon wheel options from Trek had silent hubs and would work for the FX Sport series.
I’m also interested in the new Shimano GRX group set. It only comes with drop bar shifters afaik but can these components work on the FX Sport? I’ve read the new 8 series GRX group set is a huge step up in quality and design from the older 6 series the FX Sport currently uses.
Am I so in the weeds with wanting custom components that I need to try and figure out a custom build or can I somehow get most of what I want from an FX Sport 5 and some light customization?
I really loved how light the bike was and it was buttery smooth over rough terrain compared to my current giant escape on 32c road tires.

2024.05.19 06:23 derEinsameWolf My first ever solo ride.

My first ever solo ride.
Recently, I decided to go on a road trip with my Dominar D250. It was a ride from Pune to Bangalore about 920 kms from door to door. Started at 5AM and had about 5 breaks in the whole route because of the heat as it was summer time and temperatures were reaching 40 degrees so had to stop for water breaks to avoid dehydration. I did not have any food other than some energy bars and drank plenty of water to avoid fatigue. I reached Bangalore at 8 PM. It would have been an hour earlier but got delayed because of unforeseen rains about 70 kms ahead of Bangalore. I was following the general route for the trip which was Pune-Satara-Kolhapur-Hubballi- then ahead. About the bike now, I have got it fitted with cushioned seats, handle bar risers, top box with racks, knuckle guards, tank bang.(Crash guards and aux lights coming soon!!). The bike performed like a charm! The main reason I went in summers was to test the bike’s capabilities in heat. People said it would blow some fuses for cooling system here and there but literally nothing happened. Before this ride, the bike was ridden around 23k kms in normal city and short stretch highway routes only since the last 2 years. There was a patch after Hubballi where I rode it at 115 kmph non-stop for about 1 hour 30 minutes without any troubles. Even with a top box on, the manoeuver ability of the bike was really phenomenal. Power of the bike is enough for Indian highways really. After travelling 900kms the Bangalore traffic was at peak as the office time was going on, but even in traffic it was very easy to manoeuvre out through small gaps like a charm. I am preparing for more rides in future mostly solos because I am not able to match schedules of other groups since my work nature is very unpredictable at times. But honestly, I have made a different connection with the bike now and the trust has been increased massively. I have always loved the Dominar since its launch and went for a D250 coz I really never planned for long rides but after trying it, the hobby is never going to get lost. Such long rides makes you a better version of yourself every-time specially when doing solo rides. I would love to hear you guys about what suggestions you have and some experience sharing as well. Thanks for reading this guys! Love the community.

2024.05.19 04:56 copirate01 Best Hybrid Bike for My Situation

I’m looking for recommendations for my next bike. I previously had a Diamondback mountain bike, but that was about 8 years ago.
Now I’m wanting to get back into cycling, but now I have a toddler (2y/o) who would love to join me. I’ll need a bike to which I can mount a child seat on the back (either the trailer style or mounted behind my seat, open to opinions on that). Riding with the kid would be on almost exclusively asphalt paved bike/walking trails. Solo riding would be on a combination of that and some light dirt/gravel trails in the woods. No jumps, rocks, or anything aggressive.
Would a gravel bike be the most appropriate category I should look in? I’m really out of the loop on brands and models, so specific recommendations are appreciated. I’m in the US, so North American availability is a must.

2024.05.19 04:48 DefiantFlamingo8940 Traveling with a cardboard bike box, Montreal Airport - Air Canada

I recently traveled with a cardboard bike box through Montreal Airport (YUL) with Air Canada. It was my first time doing so and I had a few doubts beforehand. So I thought I'd share my experience here in case it could help others looking for information, as I've seen people discussing this subject here.
Where to get the box?
Any bike shop:
-possibly the cheapest but also the most unreliable and time consuming
-might need to call multiple shops, sometimes inconveniently located
CL Cycle (35$)
-two bike shops in the Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood, both about 1km away from a metro station
-apparently sell cardboard bike boxes for 35$, sometimes show as out of stock online
Gare d’autocars de Montréal (17.25$)
-Montreal’s bus station, situated downtown at Berri-UQAM metro station (easily reached by bike from central neighborhoods or by metro which accepts bikes outside of weekdays peak hours)
-the option I went for as it's both affordable and convenient
-sells bike boxes for 17.25$ through Expedibus shipping service
-just ask for a bike box at the main bus ticket counter, no need to reserve in advance, they should pretty much always have them in stock, they also provide tape
-I couldn't measure the box but it was not super long, I removed the front wheel and handlebar of my rigid 29er MTB (with an admittedly long wheelbase) and it just barely fit, some people may need to remove both wheels
-there is one hole on each side to use as handle, but they're fragile, using them to lift the bike caused as significant tear in the cardboard that I had to patch
-there’s usually plenty of space inside the bus station to work on your bike and pack it
-while there are often interesting characters hanging around the bus station, Montreal is a safe place, but still keep an eye on your valuables
-from the bus station there are regular city buses going to the airport (STM 747 line) which accept bikes and cost 11$
Montreal Airport - Safe Bag (70$)
-two kiosks at the airport, opening hours from early morning to evening
-over the phone they told me they sold cardboard bike boxes for 70$ each (which seems outrageous), and that they always have some available (no surprise)
-while the airport is easily reachable by bike, it's a much longer bike ride than to the Gare d’autocars for people staying or living closer to downtown, a long bike ride that you might want to avoid before a long flight if the weather is rainy or super hot
How to get to the airport?
747 bus from the Gare d’autocars to the airport (11$)
-costs 11$ which you can buy in person at the bus station counter when you buy your bike box, can also be bought anywhere else that sells STM tickets including the apps Chrono and Transit, can buy it as L’Occasionnelle which works as 24h day pass for public transit on Montreal Island including the airport bus
-can pay cash in the bus with coins only and the bus driver does not provide change
-the bus line runs 24h/7, multiple times per hour during the day and at least every hour at night
-leaves directly from gate 15 inside the Gare d’autocars, and then makes a few stops downtown before taking the highway to the airport
-should take 50min to an hour to get to the airport depending on traffic, construction, and, more importantly, confused passengers not knowing how to pay their ticket
-the bus accepts boxed bikes as explicitly cited by their website, but the racks are too small, you'll have to keep your box upright along the folding seats of the area reserved for handicapped people :(
-see STM website for more up-to-date info
How to fly with a bike with Air Canada?
Fixed 50$ fee no matter the destination
-you do NOT need to have a checked baggage included in your fare (for example, you can buy the cheapest economy fare type without any checked baggage, you will only have to pay 50$ for the bike, and not 50$ + whatever is the price for one checked baggage)
-before buying your flight you can call this number to see if there is room available for your bike box on a specific flight: 18882472262
-after buying your ticket, call the same number to tell them to reserve a place for your bike, if by bad luck there's no room you can always get a refund within 24h of buying your ticket -do your online check-in, available the day before your flight, indicate that you will be traveling with one bike and pay the 50$ fee
-once at the airport go to an Air Canada self check-in kiosk, click on the baggage options (I think it was called “modify baggage” even if you won't be modifying it), it should show you’re traveling with a bike, click to continue and it’ll print stickers for your bike box
-go to the oversized luggage area, they’ll ask you to open the box for them to check it and then they'll give you tape to close it
Open to hearing your experiences.
*All prices in Canadian dollars
TLDR:
Simplest reliable and affordable way to travel with a cardboard bike box to YUL is imo:
-bike/metro to Gare d’autocars
-buy 17.25$ bike box there
-take 11$ 747 bus to YUL
-pay airline-specific bike fee (50$ with Air Canada, no extra fee)

2024.05.19 04:01 LazySCV87 Trek Warranty prope

I’ve had my Trek FX Sport 5 for roughly a year and a half and I took it in last week for some minor maintenance before Summer riding. I get a call the next day and it’s one of the bike mechanics saying that they found a crack in the frame and that they’ll have to do a warranty claim — and that depending on the results, they’ll replace it or give me a loyalty discount on a new frame.
I was ticked off, anxious, disappointed, and confused altogether because as far as I’m aware I’ve done nothing to cause the crack: no wrecks, no tip overs, and I’ve always used a torque wrench to avoid issues with over tightening (crack was found on the seat tube, so they thought possibly over tightening).
But! by the end of the day they called back and said that Trek is honoring the warranty and they didn’t have any frames in or that color and size, so they’re sending a new whole bike. Crazy. They asked if that was good and obviously I was hyped for it and actually was like, really, so I won’t have to pay anything? Even to transfer all my accessories to the new bike? Nada.
It was ready yesterday for pick up, only 9 days after finding the crack, but I didn’t get to it until today. I’m still thrilled but now I’m anxious about carbon frames, as this was my first one and first frame to ever crack, and I’m curious if it also has to do with my current weight (between my BW, bike accessories, clothing, and the bike itself I’m probably 10~20lbs from the max weight limit).
So despite having this brand new beauty, I’ll be waiting a bit for my weight to drop to make sure that my weight isn’t a factor and I’ll likely be buying a new torque wrench, name brand, to make sure that wasn’t the issue too. Props to Trek and LBS though! I’ll definitely be getting a Trek for whenever I finally upgrade from my old Santa Cruz hardtail to a full suspension. Likely not carbon though!

2024.05.19 02:21 rlmalisz Di2 GRX adding EW-WU111...which extra wire do I need?

What the title says. Have a brand-new OBED Boundary Di2 GRX. Other bike has 105-Di2, which has BLE/ANT built-in. Ideal place to install this would be in the seat tube under the battery. But this is an inline thing, and while I have ordered one, the product descriptions don't seem to show the added wire it would take to put it there. The videos I have watched of installations do. The unit is already spendy, and it looks like the wires are 1) not cheap; 2) ludicrously long for what I need; 3) come in two flavors, 1st gen and 2nd gen. The shortest I see on most sites is 150mm...and I'd be fine with 20mm. Has anyone here been down this rathole, and found a source for short Di2 wires, and know which gen I'd need?

2024.05.19 01:49 RevolutionaryHat7444 DIDNT SUE LANDLORD FOR FALLING DOWN THE STAIRS WHEN THEY WERE NOT UP TO CODE, MONTHS LATER REPAIRS EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE STAIRS.

Hello everyone, I am have been renting a room for 2 years now. The trouble started long before I fell down the stairs and broke my shoulder. About 5 months ago the landlord (lets name him dink), dink decided to to re due the floors in the basement due to water damage in one of the rooms. Dink went with a cheap shoddy repair man, lets call him steve. Steve re-did the whole basement floor and bathroom. I had to move all my stuff out of my room into another room. Only a few months go by and the tiles in my basement room where I live are all seperated. I had to show dink and he didnt understand why the tiles in my room were bascially falling apart. A few weeks later Dink comes by and tells me that (lets call him sam) sam a legit repair man with workers and a company are coming to re due the floor, and do other repairs on the house. Dink tells me not to tell sam that steve did the work. Sam and steve are from the same community and hate eachother. One day Dink comes into my room with sam and shows him the messed up floor. Sam asked who did the floor and why are the tiles separated. Dink tells sam that he did the floor but does not understand why the tiles are like that, my jaw dropped open. Dink lied right to sams face in front of me. A few days ago the repair men show up. They were like animals to say the least. The spray painted the house outside and got spray paint all over the grass as well. They didnt warn me or my roomates that the kitchen was about to be covered in plastic for days so I could not access it. I got up one morning and the kitchen had been like sealed off by plastic. I was really broke at the time but still and had to eat out. Sam's workers also re did the floor in the dining room and living room. They put the whole house into chaos and moved everything around. They were not careful about how they moved are things and damaged my bike and my table in my room. Me and the roommates had to move everything back by ourselves afterwards. They would not flush the toliets after the used them and would not put the seat down either. I had to ask the workers to do this and they still didnt comply. The workers had to re due the whole basement floor again. They woke me up ealry in the morning one day to get started on my room, they made a huge mess of my room. I was put out a second time with my room becasue Dink went with steve who didnt know what he was doing. My mental health was not good at this point and it kept declining. I could not stand that the workers were in my sacred place, my room. So heres the kicker on march tenth I fell down ten steps (the basment steps) and broke my shoulder. I was taken to hospital in the ambulance. I had to take work off for two months, till may tenth for my shoulder to heal. So I lost a lot of wages. The steps were not up to code and there was only one wobbly railing at the time I fell. I was in a lot of pain for weeks and had to use T3s and also have my arm in a sling. Till this day I dont have full range of motion with my right arm and have to go to physio. I confroted Dink the landlord about the stairs and he said it would take hundrends of thousands of dollars to fix the stairs. So i asked the landlord to put up more railings and to buffer the steps with non slip matting. Railings were put up but sams repair men painted all of them so I couldnt use them for a day anyway and risked further injury. The slip matts have been brought to the house but have been laying in the kitchen for two weeks with nothing happening to them. So Dink repaired everything except the stairs. I have also asked the landlord twice if I could have an animal to help with my mental health they have refused twice even though I could have sued them for the stairs. All the other roomates are on board with having a cat. So Im in the process of getting documents for an support animal. Legally they cant refuse me under our provinces law and they cant charge me a damamge depoist. I will be informing Dink soon when I get the proper documents lined up. I have mental health problems and do qualify for this. We will see what happens in the future, thanks for listening!

2024.05.19 01:46 titaniumbob e-MTB for kid hauling

Does anyone here have an e-MTB combined with a shotgun/Mac ride style toddler seat? What are your feelings about that setup? I’ve been using a Mac ride with my Orbea Oiz for a while now and my kids love it but it wears me out and the kids get hot on uphill sections in warmer weather. An e-MTB seems like a good solution but I’m hesitant to drop so much money on a bike I’ll likely only use to haul kids since I love my analog bikes for solo riding.

2024.05.19 01:46 xSaturnityx Picked up a 1986 Yamaha yx600 for like $900, is it even worth it to keep trying to fix it?

Sorry for the long post, there's a TLDR at the bottom, just thought i'd put all the details out there.
The bike is a 1986 Yamaha YX600, a slightly odd 'mutt' bike. Bought it a bit ago. It ran when stored, but it was stored for a good while. The dude was super cool so I trusted it, and hey it was $900 for basically a complete bike+helmet+original owners manual+$150 motorcycle ramp, and just a random box of extra small parts.
I bought an original ECU to just keep it simple, I bought original gauge cluster (unfortunately don't remember entirely since it's been a while, but a modern aftermarket gauge cluster would not work, so I had to go with OEM.) Thankfully Ebay was a savior, there were not many parts for this bike and I should have done more research, but fortunately I found one seller that exclusively sells a bunch of parts for it.
After all was said and done it ran, just not very well. Then one day I noticed it was kinda running hot, I somewhat chocked it up to just being super hot outisde, but then noticed some smoke coming out of the crankcase after parking somewhere to check. It was definitely having trouble. Then it just simply wouldn't start up. Got super worried but after letting it cool down for an hour it was alright to start, and just got home quickly.
I went out after a bit and started it to check what was going on, I had a temp gun and noticed cylinder 3 was sitting at a cool 600-700 degrees, while the others were like 300-350. Go figure, it's a 4 cylinder bike with a 4-carb rack. One for each cylinder because... Dunno. The entire thing is such a PITA to take apart but I was determined.
Rebuilt it and cleaned the entire thing 3-4 times, but for some reason Cylinder 3 was running completely lean and I could not figure it out for so long. Then one time when taking it apart again, I noticed that the brass float valve would not seat properly in carb 3, it was like a mm or two high, causing the float needle to have ever so less clearance, jamming the needle up into the float valve when fuel would flow in, sealing the fuel hole entirely until it sucked whatever fuel it could from the bowl. No matter how I bent the prongs of the float, I couldn't get it to seat correctly.
I never understood this, I took it apart and every single time would switch the brass float valve, I had like 3 different kits to grab from, they were all the exact same size and float valve. Look down into the hole that the valve seats in, across all 4 carbs it was the exact same with zero difference, the hole was clean and smooth, so there was no visual reason it wouldn't fit! It irritated me so much that after the fourth time putting it back together and testing it, watching it either dump fuel out or get zero fuel to the bowl after a second, I just put the bike in storage.
I wanted to fix it, but could not figure out how, and nowhere had any information since getting info on the bike in the first place was super rough. I could either try to sand and polish the hole, or even sand down the valve and risk ruining something, or try to buy a whole new carb rack. The issue was that nobody was selling the carb set anywhere, I saw it once on Ebay but it was gone within like a day and was like $500 and didn't see another at any point.
And now time has gotten away from me quite a bit. Don't really have the time or space to work on it, and at this point I am contemplating even attempting to sell a broken bike, or just storing it until I can get to it someday and just try to figure out if any other aftermarket carbs will work for it.
TLDR: Don't have much time anymore, but i've been told the bike is rare in the sense of not too many people really owning one since it's a mutt bike, and the carb is a PITA with one of the four carbs running dangerously lean with a simple surface level issue that I can't solve after rebuilding it 4 times (Brass float valve wont seat all the way for some reason, causing the needle to get stuck in the hole and not allow fuel to flow in until the bowl empties and it gets a brief burst of fuel), and at this point it seems like my only option would be to buy a new carb rack or the specific carb and hope it's in okay condition if I could ever find one that's oem and doesn't cost half what I paid for the bike or isn't destroyed, find an aftermarket one that actually works, try to even attempt to sell it again later on (tried, no luck) or when I finally get time try to fix it and just continue to keep it in storage.

2024.05.19 01:17 Rouge_Architect Orbea Terra OC XP10 Seatpost seat angle adjustment

Hello all, I just got a new Orbea Terra 31m X1 2023 and I'm not quite sure how to adjust the seat angle. I have the standard seat carbon seat post that ships with it, oc xp10, and the blue paper instructions are confusing me a bit and I was hoping somebody here might have some experience with this.
According to the instructions you first release the bolt perpendicular to the bike frame and then you twist the seat angle bolt counterclockwise to bring the nose down and clockwise to bring the nose up. When I adjust the seat angle bolt slightly and then tighten the perpendicular bolt again, there is still some play in the seat angle. I've only been able to get the seat angle fully locked in at the furthest nose up and for the nows down settings.
Anybody have experience with this? Thank you!
