Sorry this installment took so long to upload! Just a heads-up, I may take some time to deliver the last one too – these posts take forever to format on Reddit's finicky-ass editor, and my dumb real life is currently keeping me from precious Internet time. Thank you for your patience! Quick recap of where we left off. First, there were five to ten halcyon years of pleasant and meaningful interactions between EA and her blossoming fanbase, prominently by way of her official forum. Then, circa 2009-2010, EA's online presence shifted towards sudden anger outbursts, ban-hammering, and an increasingly top-down communication style.
This created a sort of primordial rift within the fanbase, between those who supported EA's right to speak her mind and regulate her own fan spaces however she pleased – and those who thought that her reactions were rude and inappropriate (at best), and that even fan spaces should allow for reasonable, non-abusive criticism of the artist.
Between a poorly-handled book release (see Part 3), the controversial (Part 2) or dubiously true (Part 4) contents of said book, and serious shade from various former collaborators (Part 5), more and more fans had pressing thoughts about EA's work ethic and choices. EA attempted damage control through drastic forum rules that made it virtually impossible to voice any “serious” critical opinion. It didn't work, of course: instead of squashing the mutiny, she created a schism.
Critical fans and active haters started congregating on unofficial platforms.

“WITH MUFFINS LIKE THIS, WHO NEEDS ENEMIES?”: TROLL LIKE A GIRL

So here we were, the early 2010s. The official forum (which had about 700 members in 2006, if you recall) was now thousands-strong, reaching just over 12,000 registered users in 2012 – not all of them active, but still. In terms of sheer numbers and content creation, the party was POPPIN'... but increasingly in parts of the Asylum that escaped EA's jurisdiction, such as Tumblr, where they could speak their mind freely.

In one wing of Asylum Tumblr, a smattering of call-out blogs emerged, which laid out EA's various lies, faux pas, shitty takes, and general deep-seated terribleness in detailed timelines and screenshots (or, short of that, long-winded bullet points). While many such blogs framed it as “serious” whistleblowing and did their best to remain as fact-based and neutral as they could, there was some genuine disgust, animosity and creepiness towards EA on that side of Tumblr; for some ex-fans, “exposing the truth” was mostly justify obsessive hatred, prying and verbal abuse. Some, for instance, felt the bizarre need to side with EA's mother in their estrangement. (One user, with the URL “emilyautumnfischkopf”, argued in a serious and down-to-earth tone - but with zero sources - that EA's upbringing had been nothing but peaceful and supportive until she ungratefully kicked her loving family to the curb for no reason at all. They were later revealed 🔍 to have an alternate handle as “eaisalyingcunt”.)
Either way, through these blogs, a number of potential drama bombs that had mostly flown under the radar were dredged up from over the years – some of which were hard to ignore, even for supportive fans. Where to begin?
There was that nonsense in-joke song, captured twice on camera during the 2009 tour (to very little outrage, at the time), crassly called “Manatee Retard”📺. Or EA's scathing response, in print, to a wheelchair user who found it insensitive that she used a bedazzled wheelchair as a prop to do sexy acrobatics on stage. (“Your offence taken at my hard-won self-acceptance proves that I indeed have something to fight against”, she wrote). Spoken word tracks where she made trivializing knock-knock jokes about serious mental illnesses she didn't have, like schizophrenia and OCD. Multiple instances of calling Britney Spears a “bimbo” and a “Hollywood fucked-up”, resentfully claiming that she only shaved her head because she was “hopped up on drugs” and certainly not because she was “bipolar”, a word the press liked to wield as an insult anyway. (“That's almost like calling someone a retard!” Yeah, heaven forbid.) The meanest, most distasteful paragraphs in the book. Basically everything problematic EA had ever said or written.📝 In retrospect, it had been a long time coming, but it was a lot to take in – and certainly more off-putting, even to less emotionally invested fans, than silly lies about her age and last name.
In another wing of Asylum Tumblr, some fans had had it up to here and just wanted to have fun. 🎵 If Plague Rats had learned one valuable lesson from EA, it was how to crack a joke in the face of absurd tragedy – and the general state of the EA fandom certainly warranted a few.
In 2012, Fight Like a Girl was released. After six long years, three of which had been peaceful, the Opheliac era was officially over. The new album and ensuing tour confirmed that the Asylum had entered a process of glamorous Broadway-style militarization. 🎵📺
The mood board was “Roman general meets Vegas showgirl meets Victorian street urchin”.🪞 The color palette was, to naysayers, “musty pink and rotten, stale piss yellow”. 🐀 The keyword was “REVENGE” (through the power of... self-expression! sorority! brutal assault with rusty medical implements!). The chorus of the title song had an intriguing run-on line about getting “revenge on the world, or at least 49% of the people in it” 🎵 – which seemed like an awful lot, and was widely interpreted (to cheers, boos, or uncomfortable sighs) as a misandrist jab at literally all men on Earth.
The show was essentially a demo version of the musical, in that the setlist vaguely reflected the order of events in the story – but prior reading was essential in order to get what the hell was going on on stage. This one Broadway reviewer had not perused the literature before seeing the show 🔍, and hated: the set, the choreography, the skits, the plot, the lyrics, the music, the concept. (Seriously, you should read the review. It's not even my show and I feel like quitting show business.)
Pre-show VIP encounters, now violin-free, were lorded over by EA's new manager🐀, whose official title was “Asylum Headmistress”. (Interesting choice – she sounds fun!) The swag bags were less substantial than before, and the “greet” part of the meet-and-greet was rarely more than a quick hug and photo op.
On Twitter, EA continued to embrace her “I am very badass” fronting attitude...

...and her taste for needlessly inflammatory statements. About an aisle sign in a supermarket:

(Again with the confounding crypto-ableism, EA! 🔍) She also went through a phase of raging against Lady Gaga 📝, who had stolen her idea of using a wheelchair on stage as an able-bodied woman. 🔍 That failed to convince anyone that she wasn't the histrionic diva that haters made her out to be.
Spurred on by EA's rallying cries and “us vs them” mentality, loyalists turned the white-knighting up to 11. On Twitter, some Plague Rats got into cat fights with Lady Gaga's Little Monsters (what a time to be alive). Others tried to balance out the Tumblr negativity with initiatives like “Spreading a Plague of Love” – a “positive-only” confession blog, whose extreme fangirling, comically drastic rules and hyper-defensive tone📝 did not debunk the increasingly popular notion that “true Plague Rats” were a bunch of authoritarian and hopelessly brainwashed fanatics.
EA truthers and other anti-fans started lashing out at anyone who dared express any positive opinion of EA, solidifying claims that the backlash against EA was just a conspiracy of bitter, hysterical bullies.
All this to say: every passing day brought new reasons for fans to get mad at EA and each other, and everyone in the Asylum was in need of a laugh. It's not easy having a good time.🦠
Leading up to Fight Like a Girl and in the years that followed, user-submission-based meme blogs took off, most notably “Spreading a Plague of Lulz / Troll Like a Girl”. A lot of the early submissions were absurdist humor and toothless, cheezburger-Impact memes (a style that was, oddly, already dated at the time). Those often originated in good fun, and from loyal fans, on the official forum. But there was also true snark, satirizing EA's questionable ethics, outrageous claims, and easily spoofed artistic gimmicks. A new slang of Asylumspeak emerged: Glittertits (slight NSFW), GAGA!!, EA Gusta and all its memeface variants, Get outta mah house!, Are You Suffering?, Fight Like A Goat, [Random celebrity] copied EA (a subgenre in its own right), ...
Most of the “trolling” was directed at unrepentant bootlickers and, to a lesser extent, red-in-the-face haters and creeps. Meme blogs would post joke comments under “serious” or gushing submissions on Wayward Victorian Confessions, and taunt loyalist accounts by tagging them in their posts. When a few people complained on WVC that almost all of the Bloody Crumpets to date had been thin white able-bodied women, and a few fans responded by sharing their dream-casts for a more diverse line-up, the blog was flooded for days with confessions that “X should be a Crumpet” (candidates included RuPaul, Mitt Romney, Nicki Minaj, EA's therapist, and the WVC admins). Farcical shenanigans like that.
Ah, but some people will always cross the line, won't they. EA threads popped up on merciless, bully-friendly snark platforms like Lolcow, Pretty Ugly Little Liar, and Encyclopedia Dramatica. Snarkers with a mean streak and obsessive haters mingled in some of the more aggressive, 4-chan-spirited retaliation against EA – which would be called “brigading” in modern parlance. This included flooding EA's Goodreads page with one-star reviews (see part 4), repeatedly editing her Wikipedia page to include her legal name and birth year, and ensuring that Googling said name would bring up current pictures of her.
All of this compounded agitation fragmented the once-united fandom beyond recognition.🦠 Through substantial disagreements among fans, personal bickerings, layers upon layers of inscrutable in-jokes, and cross-platform telephone games, the Asylum morphed into a booby-trapped Escher room.
Satire blogs were taken in earnest. Earnest fan blogs scanned as satire. Memes would get called out as abuse. Appreciation without attached criticism would get mocked as bootlicking. Obvious jokes made by EA would be taken at face value. One divisive confession could trigger days and days of debate, to the point that WVC eventually banned confessions in response to other confessions. New waves of infighting created a confusing web of rival sub-factions🐀, each accusing the others of being toxic, cliquish, and delusional.
The shared fantasy was broken, the collective vision had crumbled, no onez was speaking the same language anymore. Fans would jump down the throat of other fans who held almost identical views about EA, except for that one thing she said or did that one time. Everyone had differing thoughts on what should or shouldn't acceptable to discuss, question, excuse, make fun of.
War is hell.

SCORCHED EARTH SHENANIGANS: HONEY, I SHRUNK THE ASYLUM

Haters vs sycophants is not really the kind of conflict where one side can come out on top (if you're participating, you've already lost). But in the long tug-of-war between “grassroots” and “EA-sponsored” fan spaces, the ultimate winner is obvious – in that the former is gasping in agony, a shriveled husk of its former glory, while the latter... is non-existent. This is due in no small part to EA's tendency, like the Czars of old, to settle conflicts by setting Moscow on fire.🔍)
That's not entirely fair: unlike EA, the czar only did it that once.
By early 2013, as EA was gearing up for her third Fight Like a Girl tour at the end of the year, the official forum was... not as lively as it once had been. Not just because of the stifling rules and disgruntlement towards EA, or because EA herself hadn't really posted anything on there in years; the Internet was also changing, and forums in general were fast becoming passé.
This made it difficult for EA to create a safe space where she could talk to fans, and fans could talk to and about her, in a way she deemed suitable (ie, a space she could gate-keep and regulate enough to keep it completely free from negative criticism). Social media was a minefield; she still posted regularly, but didn't interact very much. So EA and the Headmistress came up with a way to filter out the unbelievers: an official fan club📝, aptly called the “Asylum Army”, with a $100 entry price.
Joining the AA came with a dog tag, a sew-on patch, and a lifetime membership certificate signed by EA and – for some reason – the Headmistress. (Unlike EA's best friend and sound engineer back in the forum's heyday, I don't think fans ever really embraced the FLAG-era manager as part of the Asylum in-group. She came across more as a coordinator / businessperson / adult chaperone, at best.🐀) So, slightly better goodies than you'd get by joining the other AA 🔍 ... but not by much. The main appeal was that members would have access to exclusive content, special merch, giveaways, early bird tickets for future shows, and regular video chats with EA.
The concept itself drew a fair amount of criticism, as you can imagine. Between the name🐀, the price, and the inherent gatekeeping of a pay-to-join fanclub, many balked at the monetizing of a concept that had once (like, three years back) been significantly more DIY, grassroots, and inclusive. 📝🐀
Then again, many also longed for a positive, drama-free space where fans could just be fans. And while the creation of the AA was generally recognized as a quick cashgrab, a lot of people were surprisingly cool with it. EA was trying to finance her dream musical, after all – although a number of fans wished she had gone about raising funds in a less sketchy way.
So around 400 fans shelled out (which, according to the Headmistress📝, “basically cover[ed] the cost of running the fanclub itself – keeping the database up, website, etc.”). Enough for a close-knit, but sizable community. But already, there was a conflict of interest: a high fanclub entry fee essentially demands that you pledge loyalty to the artist over loyalty to your fellow fans, who wish to join but can't afford to. Sharing, caring, and ensuring no one felt left out were some of the more positive values cultivated in the fandom... but leaking exclusive content would surely piss off other paying members🐀, and make EA feel betrayed all over again. (And she had barely just started to mellow out on social media!)
...But then again, this is the internet. After the first month of secret AA drops (lyric sheets, some photoshoot outtakes – nothing too juicy, really), there were, yes, some leaks. EA was predictably miffed, and retaliated by... ghosting the fanclub for weeks at a time in its first few months of existence (great look!). She eventually found the “solution” to her problem, by providing something you couldn't right-click-save (and which had been part of the promised perks to begin with): live interaction.
Over webcam, she was her usual in-person bubbly, charming, funny self. Everyone seemingly had a good time during the fanclub video chat, and this gave people faith and hope.
There were a few more events, giveaways, etc. As promised, ahead of the fall 2013 tour (the last one to date, it would turn out), AA members got priority access to show tickets and VIP bundles. The latter were much pricier than before, and only included soundcheck, a photo-op, and three goodies: a tin of loose-leaf tea, a signed printer-paper setlist, and a small flag that said “F.L.A.G.”.🔍 Some stuff continued to leak – but, as some of the outlaws pointed out (scroll down to the Disqus comments), they were mostly relaying information that was relevant to the entire fanbase, such as updates about ongoing projects (the dragged-out recording of the audiobook, for one).
In early 2014, lifetime memberships were closed, and replaced with monthly, quarterly and yearly subscription tiers. Bizarrely, you ended up paying $3 more per month if you bought a $99 yearly subscription📝 – but it did include the patch, dog tag, and piece of paper!

Sometimes I kind of want to be part of the cool kids and register to the Asylum Army. Then I remember how it came about, what you could get for the same price a couple years ago, how the whole thing was and is handled, and that I won’t support any of this bullshit. (And then I roll around naked in all the money I’m saving.) (🐀)

Still, a number of fans rejoiced at the affordable monthly option, and joined – if not for the exclusive content and merch (which were... okay, but not much to write home about), then for the friendly, drama-free exchanges with an artist they actually did love, in spite of all the frustration.
For the still-too-poor or still-undecided, there was always the forum! It wasn't as active as it used to be, but a few die-hards still managed to keep the lights on... until, inevitably, Someone Did Something and Ruined Everything. (Once again: EA's wrath is spectacular, but rarely completely unprovoked.) The incident features one notable figure in the Asylum community. Let's call him the Collector.
OK, so maybe you remember the meme I linked to in Part 4, with Christian Grey and the ginormous EA hoard. Well, that's the Collector's collection. The “Violin” promo that I called the "Holy Grail of the fandom" in the same paragraph? Also his. The handwritten lyrics that went for $940? Guess who won that auction. Over the years, the Collector had probably spent five figures on EA merch and shows, and although that fact was a little unsettling, he was a very active, easy-going, and generally well-liked fixture of the fandom.
One day in 2012, shortly after the Headmistress had replaced EA's old Chicago BFF as main forum admin, the Collector's account got banned or restricted over something dumb. When the ban wasn't lifted as quickly as he hoped, he took it... the way one takes things when one is unhealthily invested: he started spamming Headmistress and the mod team with increasingly rambling and abusive emails (lost to time, probably for the best). When that didn't work quickly enough, he tried a different route.
One of the many auctions that the Collector had won, some years prior, was EA's old iPod Touch📝 – which contained all of her favorite tunes and, buried somewhere in the data cache... a phone number. Which the Collector tried calling. And wouldn't you know it: EA picked up. She congratulated him on his sleuthing skills, listened patiently as he made his case, apologized for any distress caused by the unfair account restriction, and then they got married.
Kidding! She freaked the fuck out, hung up, and banned him for life from the forum and all EA shows and events.
After his ban, the Collector allegedly still tried to attend at least one VIP pre-show (one source in the comments says he was allowed to buy some merch, refunded for his ticket, and escorted out). He joined the Reform forum to bitch about EA and try to rally people to his cause, possibly made revenge posts about her on darker snark forums, and continued to hound the Asylum mod team. So in June 2014, EA came up with a radical and unexpected fix to the Collector problem.

The official Asylum Fan Forum has been shut down permanently. I have personally paid thousands of dollars each year to keep the forum safe and secure for you ... Unfortunately, the forum has not been kept safe and secure for me, a truth which disappoints me greatly, instead becoming a place where people who have physically threatened myself and my staff prey upon forum members, pressuring them to contact me and my staff on their behalf. If the gullible wish to humor my stalkers (who live in their parent’s basement at age 30 something) and thus put me in danger, they may do it on their own dime. They may also fuck off, because stupidity can kill, and I won’t be your victim. To those who enjoyed the forum, you know who to thank for its closure. (“On the closing of the Asylum Forum”)

Voilà! This is how a decade-long archive of shared history ends: not with a bang, but with a dirty delete and a sod-off communiqué.
The obliteration of the forum took everyone by surprise...

I was actually on the forum when it was taken down. I was navigating between posts and when I went to click on a different board, an error message came up. I honestly cried a little, I'm not ashamed to say. (WVC admin on Reddit, 2024)

Ex-mod: It turns out that if someone spends enough years actively “waging war” to destroy what they can’t have, eventually they’ll be successful. * eye roll * Not even mods got prior warning. Just all the sudden, poof, gone. BFF: Really? She did not let the moderators know?! This is sounding worse and worse. Uggh. I’m so sorry. Such a loss. (...) Ok, threats are serious, but why not just put it in archive mode so no one can post? (...) Sad. I shall light a candle in the forum's honor. (Facebook posts; scroll down for screenshots)

It was a gut punch, especially for people who had poured countless hours into the community, or could have used some prior warning to save years of their own writing from the role-playing threads. One last chance to take a look around the place that had meant so much to so many.

From the wording of the announcement of closing the forum and a number of other things, it sometimes seems like EA doesn't like her fans much. :/ (🐀)

Three months after the forum was nuked, Battered Rose (a venerable EA fansite, which had been around since the Enchant era and had one of the most complete EA galleries online) announced that it was shutting down too.📝 The admin, who had also been a long-time forum mod, cited a lack of “time, energy, passion, or money” to keep the website going... and being upset at the sudden disappearance of the forum. It was, truly, the end of an era for the Asylum.
...Well, no point in living in the past. For those who could afford it, and still wanted to talk to/about EA after that (not everyone did 🐀), there was always the Asylum Army fanclub!
Over the summer of 2014, EA held regular live chats and Q&A's, and... many attendees really enjoyed them, and thought the AA was well worth the money after all. She also quietly parted ways with the much poo-pooed Headmistress around that time.

Just spent over 4 hours giggling, drinking tea and playing guessing games in chat with EA and other Asylum Army members ... No griping, no downers, just lots of fun. I think I like the way the ‘new fandom’ is going and now I’m really glad I finally decided to join the Army. (September 4, 2014🐀; Battered Rose had closed the day before)

The forum was lost forever, but perhaps that was a chance for a fresh start. Could this fanclub thing really be the Asylum Renaissance that fans had been longing for?

Turns out the fanclub had been the Headmistress' idea all along. EA had been reluctant from the start, and although she really enjoyed the live chats with a safe community of people “who are there for the right reasons”, she couldn't overcome her fundamental discomfort with the concept. Lifetime and regular members would receive a bunch of digital downloads and a -35% coupon on the Asylum Emporium for their troubles. EA said she would definitely pop back once in a while for live chats, for free, just for fun, but to my knowledge, she never did.
And so the most devoted fans were left standing in the rain...

She is happy, she made it. She is fulfilling her dreams, found love and happiness after all the pain. I understand that she now doesn’t need “us” anymore ... That doesn’t change the fact she broke my heart with taking the Asylum Army and the forum from me. Yet, I am happy for her. (🐀)

I don’t feel sorry at all for the people that paid for the Asylum Army fan club. Most of them knew that EA is an atrocious business woman and has broken many promises before. In fact, I laugh at them. They seriously thought that EA would actually stay consistent with this? (🐀)

EA fans were left without an “official” home for about three years. This gave them plenty of time to be annoyed at EA for: not releasing the audiobook on time, not materializing any new project for a while... and the new sin of peddling random, ridiculously marked-up AliBaba jewelry as “merch” on her official store. Think faux-antique cameo pendants and $30 Big Ben rings (...because the Asylum story is set in London, get it?).

The whole accessories section looks like a tacky overpriced English souvenir shop. (🐀)

The fanbase lost a lost of steam in those in-between years, because there wasn't much to stick around for. As evidenced by the positive reception of the AA live chats, even in the midst of unresolved drama, out-loud interactions in a friendly environment have always been EA's saving grace. Considering the amount of online hate, there are shockingly few accounts of bad IRL encounters with EA: most people say that in live conversation, she comes across as a fun, warm, and genuinely sweet person. Some report that their negative opinion shifted after meeting her.
But there were no chats or live shows anymore. There was only social media, where she ignored questions and vague-posted about overdue projects – and the newsletter📝, which was all saccharine love-bombing to promote bland dropshipped trinkets. For fans who remembered the handcrafted merch (and two-way communication) of the early years, it was a bitter pill to swallow.

Hi everybody and thanks in advance for the answer, also forgive me for my bad english.
My computer is pretty old nowdays (ryz5 3600, 1060 6gb, 16gb(2x8), b450) and I think that my gpu is about to die. Now the problem is that in this period I am very busy and I got no time (and will tbh) to rebuild the whole system.
I know that is a very bad decision to just get a gpu because not only the 40xx series is not the best, but it would also be heavily crippled by the system (I couldn't use pci4 etc. etc.) but in a month or two I would just sell everything and assemble a decent one with 2-3k €.
Now that being said let's go to the point, I was about to buy a new 4060 for 350€ but I found this used rig for 680€.

So the question is: Is that worth 700€ nowdays? Will it run for at least 2-3 years on 1080?

DISCLAIMER: I am a homeowner and consider myself a very capable person, but I am no financial master who understands all the ins and outs of how equity, and selling homes, and profit, and closing costs, etc etc, so if I miscalculate something in my very rough numbers below, feel free to let me know, but be cool.
I (28) own a house independently of my girlfriend (25). We’re DINKs (double income, no kids) with two 2 dogs and two cats. We will not be having children. I purchased my home for $206,500 and currently have around $170,000 left on my mortgage. My home is valued between $280-300k, so I currently have between $110-130k in equity. My mortgage (with insurance and taxes included) is $1250 a month.
A little about me, my number one goal in life is to retire as soon as possible, and live a moderate, comfortable life. I don’t enjoy my job and only do it because they pay me better than anyone else would and it pays my bills. I’d also be happy to live right where I am, in this home I bought for $200k, for the rest of my life, and don’t feel the urge to upgrade my living situation in many ways.
Long story short, I’m toying with the idea of selling my house, and downgrading to a home in the $100-150k range to either completely eliminate my mortgage, or reduce it greatly to only a few hundred dollars. For the sake of this hypothetical, I’m going to be assuming that I will have no mortgage after this move, but also did not profit on the sale. An even swap from my current house to the downgrade house. Now I have an additional $1250 in disposable income per month. Realistically I would funnel that money into any debts I currently have (mostly renovations to the home I would have just sold to purchase this one). So theoretically, in under a year, I’d be pocketing that extra $1250 a month.
So question 1: would you downgrade your home to eliminate your mortgage?

Say, after a year of using the extra $1250 per month to pay down bills and rebuild our emergency fund, we start funneling that money directly into a savings we intend to use to purchase additional properties. My girlfriend and I have always considered the idea of purchasing rental properties to create some passive income, with the hopes that we could eventually replace our salaries with the money we’re brining in from the rentals every month. This would allow us to retire (hopefully significantly) early.
Within 15 months of beginning to save, we theoretically would have nearly $20,000 saved up for the down payment on a new $100k house in the area. In my area, the mortgage would be approximately $650 per month. Say we rent it for $1000 per month, for a profit $450 per month. Now we’re up to $1,700 a month in profit ($1250 disposable income from having no mortgage, and the $450 in rent we’re collecting) from selling my original home. Now if I funnel all of that money into the savings, it’s only going to take 12 months to save up enough for another down payment on a $100,000 house. Rinse and repeat until we’re profiting enough to retire in x amount of years.
So question 2: if you WOULD downgrade your home to eliminate your mortgage, would you consider investing in real estate like I described above to work towards an early retirement?

Wife's 2013 Toyota Prius C. About 160k miles on it.
The rear passenger wheel was at an angle with the top bent inward toward the body. No major noise and it drove smoothly, but a prominent angle.
Last Monday 5/13 my wife called this shop about it. They said to drop it by after hours and they would get us an estimate early the next morning.
Cue Tuesday and Wednesday, each with a "we haven't gotten to it, but promise we will soon" response when she called back.
Thursday they finally had a diagnoses and estimate for us. The rear axle was messed up. Simple weld job to refurbish it and they would have it ready by the end of the day. Great. They called 5 minutes before they closed saying it was ready, but because of that timing we couldn't actually get it. Oh well, we figured we would just get it the next day after work. (They said it'll be $700 plus tax.)
Yesterday she calls them a bit before 5 to let them know we're coming to get it. Now they tell us there's some other problem with it. Pretty vague. They've been working on it all day. It's not ready, but they're gonna stay late and get it ready for us that night whatever it takes. They said they're gonna stick with the original $700, though, the rest of this work is free, don't worry.
Today I call them. They're still working on it and I should call back in an hour. I called back. The guy who was working on it "went to lunch" and they didn't know where it was. But they promised they would get it ready today no matter what. I called back a couple more times and they just weren't answering anymore.
They're closed on Sundays, so no way we're getting our car back until Monday at the earliest now.
They said something about a part still being "0.59 degrees off" and that's why they're still working on it to get it perfect. That doesn't sound like a lot to me, but I wouldn't know. How bad is that?
They usually keep cars in the lot out front when they're not actively being worked on and we have a spare key. We just want our car back.

1. Can we just go tomorrow and take it with the plan to go back Monday and pay? Would there be a legal issue with that?
2. If we did just take it, should we be worried about it not being safe to drive?
3. Any general advice here about talking to them? I mean they told us the whole thing would be done Tuesday 5/14 and here we are. I'm normally pretty laid back and I'm livid right now.

I am looking to make an upgrade relatively soon and I’m torn between splurging for a mirrorless or sticking with my DSL longer by getting a new lens.
For context, I have been using a D300s for several years now after my mom had used it for many years and then gave to me. It has been a great camera, but it is getting old (released 14 years ago) and I just love learning new technology. I have the two kit lenses (18-200 and 70-300) as well as the good 70-200 f/2.8 which is what I primarily use. My main type of photography is wildlife/birds with some landscape on the side.
In an ideal world I would love to get the Z8, but I don’t know if I can justify the price right now. I think I would really like the mirrorless features, such as the EVF and the animal/bird AF tracking, especially after the Firmware 2.0 release. It is more than what I would like to spend, but if it is the right move, I might be able to make it work.
Another thing I would like to get, is more reach. I’ve researched the F-mount 200-500 which seems to fit my desires. On the other hand, I have seen the new Z-mount 180-600 which does not cost that much more, but it requires a mirrorless body.
After all that, I’m left with some questions that I know are a bit subjective, but I would like to hear some thoughts from other people:

1. Would it be more beneficial to stay with my 14 year old camera and get a new lens, or should I upgrade the body to prepare for the future of photography in the mirrorless system?
   
2. If I switch to mirrorless, is there a cheaper alternative to the Z8 that can still handle wildlife photography?
   
3. If the answer to 2 is yes, is the difference between it and the Z8 big enough to justify saving up for the Z8 anyway?
   
4. If I get the F-mount 200-500, is it worth getting a used one? I found one minimally used (the owner claims it’s been well taken care of) for $700 which seems like a good deal.
   

TL/DR: Should I stick with my old D300s and get the 200-500 lens or switch to a mirrorless, and if so which one for wildlife/birding?

I did some searching, but couldn't find any solid answers either here or via google. Friend of mine just recently picked up a gravel bike, which fits perfectly for my riding area (probably a solid 80/20 or 90/10 road/gravel & dirt), and it's gotten me to decide that I'd like to get a bike both for personal fitness and to ride with them. Commuting is non-viable in my area so it will just be paths and trails. Drop bars and disk brakes both are requirements for me.
I've spent a few days digging, and managed to narrow it down to a few options based on what I've been able to find. Both in general and to keep a budget for a helmet and such, I have a hard cap of $750, and would prefer to stay under as much as I can. I would've liked to be closer to $600 but by all I've found that's just non-viable for drop bars and disk brakes.

I have been looking at used bikes as well, but man is it hard to find anything that's not either asking $1k+ MSRP, a 10 year old mess, or somehow both. The only one I've found in my area is a Trek, but that is genuinely as much info as I have on it (pending a text back), so currently I'm primarily focusing on what new bikes fit my budget and goals.

Just wanted to update and thank this subreddit for helping me through the past year and a few months, and give an update to anyone who might be in a 1st DUI situation.
Arrested for DUI in February 2023 in PA(0.12, no accident, just simply pulled over). Completed ARD (12 HR Course, 30 Day suspension, $700 in fines, 6 months unsupervised probation). Started ARD in May 2023, completed class, fines, and all requirements by end of May 2023). Released early from ARD in August of 2023.
Due to the completion of ARD everything from this was supposed to be expunged, however come May 2024 everything is still flagging on a background check. I am currently still working with my legal council to get this expunged, however they basically make it impossible to get a straight answer on how to get everything done and make you jump through lots of hoops and red tape.
My biggest concern through all of this was by far was the criminal record side of things, as I am 23 years old and a young professional in my field. In January 2024, I started a new sales role with an extremely large and well known corporation in my industry and was absolutely terrified about the background check. I ended up coming clean to my hiring manager before the background check, and they were completely understanding as well as never brought the incident up again!
Fast forward to May now, I receive a call from a director at quite literally my dream company asking me if I’d be interested in a new role opening up since they were looking for someone who had past experience using certain systems that I had with my old job I was at when the DUI occurred. This job was a massive pay bump, I would get to move back to my hometown near family and friends, benefits were better, overall just a huge upgrade from what I am doing now.
Then comes the EXTREMELY rigorous background check. I was absolutely terrified I was going to lose this opportunity, as well as I didn’t want to mess up the job I was at currently by telling them I was leaving and having the new job not work out. I always have thought about background checks as a “only give information if asked” situation. However, with them wanting me to start at the end of the month, I simply just couldn’t take it anymore and I brought it up to my hiring manager again. Thank god I did as they were so happy that I was proactive and told them, and informed me it wouldn’t be an issue, and that it might be a different story if I hadn’t been upfront with them!
The charge showed bright as day on my background check, and all I had to do was provide documentation to HR that I had completed the diversion program, as they still hadn’t updated my docket yet saying I have.
Starting my dream job at the end of the month and I couldn’t be happier and more relieved I was able to take this opportunity!!
In my personal opinion when it comes to job hunting and background checks, if it is just a simple DUI no extentuiting circumstances, I would guage the rapport you have with the hiring manager and make that judgement call if you disclose to them or not. I knew mine was going to show up and in my specific situation wanted to control and own up to the situation so there were no surprises later.
The last year and couple months have been the most stressful of my life being a recent college graduate, and I would say forced me to grow up so incredibly fast.
For someone out there like me who was constantly reading this Reddit and having major anxiety, depression, and other issues due to being arrested and charged with a DUI, I promise it gets better with time and getting through it is a hard but good lesson! You will get past this and overcome this, and down the line with it will just be a blip in your timeline. However, always remember how this situation made you feel (I wear a wristband on my wrist every day that I had grabbed from the DMV when I was dealing with my license issues) and use that to make sure whenever you think about making the choice to drive even after a few drinks, YOU DONT!!
Post year and a couple months, I still drink socially, however if I ever have a single drink my car is staying where it is or I won’t have a sip if I know I have my car out with me and need to get it home. Buy that uber!

Yesterday I officially breached a milestone of €40,000 in my AIB account. Additionally I have €500 in my Revolut, €700 saved in my credit union account and €850 on Coinbase (I know I know should probably take that money out).
[TL;DR I've saved up €40K that isn't doing much. Looking for somewhere to invest some of that money now and let it do its thing until I'm in my 30s or 40s. Not sure how much I should move into a savings account vs investing. I'm fine with not touching that investment for 10+ years or just adding to it monthly. I have a medium risk tolerance. I'm unaware of how moving abroad might impact investments I make as an Irish person going to another EU country in future. If anyone has any experience with this, especially when it comes to Denmark, that'd be great to hear.]
I don't really know where to start when it comes to doing something good with my savings. Searching through the hot and top posts I didn't notice anyone in similar position really so I'm asking for myself. I'm not really financially literate yet but I'm getting a little bit better checking this sub and YouTube. I'd be really grateful to hear what you would do in my situation basically. Am I making too much of a big deal of it either?
Critically, I don't plan on staying in Ireland for more than a couple years, less hopefully. My partner lives in Denmark and I'll be moving over there to be with them and also enjoy the higher quality of life. That means I'll be getting a job over there, but probably only part-time at first as I will study when I'm there. There are decent grants for foreign students who are employed for a certain amount of time each week so I'm not too concerned about being able to survive Denmark but my savings each month will probably be hurt through the uni years. We plan on it being a long-term move and I'll be getting a full-time job there eventually all goes well. Currently have no degree.
I hope that by saving that €40K, I can use an initial amount to move (haven't worked out the cost of that yet) keep an emergency fund of about €5,000 (more?) and invest a sizeable portion of the rest.
Last year I made €32K. My wage fluctuates depending on whether I work late shifts/ weekends, but the baseline hourly wage I receive is €16.50 and on average after taxes I take home €577 a week/€2,310 a month/€27,720 a year which is going into my current account. I currently don't have any additional income sources, just my job.

Monthly income - Monthly expenses = €1792 saved each month.
Wouldn't be possible if I didn't work full-time and live with my parents who are generous enough.
I have no transport costs. I don't own a car and don't plan on buying one while living in Ireland. I can walk or bike anywhere I need to go.
New gym membership would be another €60 and considering it for the obvious physical and psychological benefits. It won't put too much of a dent in things.
I have followed the flowchart. I have no debts. Currently I'm not putting anything towards retirement (should I at 22 and what would be the best way for me to do that?). I won't be buying a home in Ireland.

So some back story. Ill try to keep it short but there's no way. I just need to vent.
About 5 years ago my wife of 25 years decided she wasn't in love with me any longer. I signed us up for couples therapy and she bailed after 3 sessions. Her reason was it was up to me to make her fall in love with me again. Over the next year it was decided that we were going to divorce. She also comes up with the an agreement where we sell the house after the last 3 kids graduate high school. The agreement is pretty one sided to her favor. She wants to have the house appraised at the time of divorce and I get 50 percent of its value at that point in time. Not when it sells which is a few years later. A few things about the house. Its in a very nice suburb for Seattle. I found it the late 90s for 75K. We bought it and a few years later we had our first child and she decided to be a stay at home mom. I was good with it. Over the next 5 or 6 years we had our other 3 kids and life was good. I worked full time and over that time I fixed up the house on my own. When to 2 youngest were in 7th grade I started pushing for her to get a job or maybe go to back to college or take some classes in some interests that she might develop into a career that she would enjoy. Hey /ipodclassic! I posted in the regular iPod sub, but didn't get an answer, so I thought I'd post here as well.
Sorry in advance if this has been asked before, but I looked around and I couldn't find anything on it. I recently got an iPod and I noticed that whenever I add a song to my iPod directly (not syncing with my iTunes library, just adding it by dragging and dropping directly to the iPod through iTunes), the album artwork does not show when I play the song that was just added. However, when I do sync my entire iTunes library, the artwork DOES work, which is really weird. Does anyone know any way to fix this?
iPod specs: Gen 5.5 30gb model on stock OS installed an iFlash quad with 256gb total and a new battery I have about 700 songs on it so far, so I doubt it's an issue with the RAM

I did the az-800 exam yesterday. There were 56 questions and 8 questions on a case study. Only a handful were yes/no or multiple choice. There were many questions on groups and file sync. I didn't have any time to check my answers. My score was terrible, 504.
I have az-104 and az-204. For those exams, measureUp really helped. Not for the az-800.
I did the az-800 because I wanted to learn more on-prem stuff and I am becoming cynical about the cloud, particularly the ai stuff. If you can run VMs and containers on your own machines, why use Azure? I did plenty of labs, so I have learned basic server admin.
I'm thinking of doing the az-700 in July or August as I have a 50% off voucher. Is the networking stuff in the learning path relevant to regular windows networking?
I also going to learn Linux admin, little reading but mostly labs. I prefer open source.
I use Entra and Power Platform regularly, and I have passed some of the applied skills, but I don't want to do the ms- or pl- exams as Microsoft keep on changing and retiring them.
Any advice? For context I am a school administrator who uses IT a lot and considering a job change to IT full time. Thanks.

Last year I was introduced to dropshipping for the first time as my brother had started running his own store selling jeans and a few clothing bits etc. I didn’t really ask him much besides the general idea of what it was, even at 23 I’d never even heard or thought of drop shipping!
My brother started earning quite abit of money and as someone who struggles to work full time due to a disability this obviously became appealing. I didn’t honestly do much research other than asking my brother what to do / how to start. I didn’t think it would work for me honestly, I’m a creative person and at the time Shopify had a free trial for 3 months so I thought why not.
Here’s the problem, I started a Sanrio/hello kitty store. I don’t know why I didn’t think that was stupid, I guess I didn’t give it that much thought? I thought I might earn £50 or so and that would be that, it was edging towards Christmas and I just wanted to buy my boyfriend Christmas gifts! Anyway it did start very slow; I only marketed through tiktok.
I would do this on and off, lucky if I got one sale a day. And then I started it again this month, I just thought abit of cash - whatever. Anyway somehow I’m now getting a lot more money, around £1,000 a day (maybe £600-700 in profit) which obviously in some ways is great. But as this took off I started to worry about it more, research more and it obviously dawned on me about copyright laws. I guess I knew it was copyrighted but thought I was so small it was so irrelevant at the time. But now with 16k followers on tiktok and getting so many sales I’m panicking.
The money is great, and for someone with a disability and limited money I’ve been able to stand on my own feet for the first time ever. I know the simple answer is to shut down my store…
I suppose my question is what are the chances of me getting fully sued and not just told to shut it down? Because if I am told to close it, obviously I would and that would be that. But if that’s the case partly I think maybe I should make the money and take it for what it is right now? But clearly if the chances are I’m going to get sued, go to prison pay some massive fine…I’d have to stop immediately?
I do know this sounds crazy, I suppose it just all happened quick and I was being naive but please also understand before this financially I was in deep “shit”

Backstory: I had been renting from my landlord for over a year (Jan 2023) for $700.00 a month. I signed a 6 month lease afterwards it would change month to month. I was fine paying the rent on time until I lost my job in October 2023. My landlord worked with me, he even lent me a personal loan of $800.00 to help pay for an attorney (his own) to assist getting my job back. Three months later I was nearly $3,000 in debt with him but as soon as I got payroll again I paid him down to $900.00. We had discussed increasing my rent to $900.00 a month to chip at the debt but it was hard to keep up unemployed. Finally, I started working again in January and paid him $1000.00 a month to help kill my debt. Once he knew I was working again everything changed. Towards the last month he snapped, serving me two ledgers but both times he had the same mistake. He had me at $900.00 a month (never put it in writing) in addition to the personal loan. It was adding on about $1200.00. I told him about the error and he was also illegally charging late fees (exceeding the maximum allowed in Colorado). The first time he admitted his error and backed off. I didn't pay rent as I awaited an update of the The second time he made the same error and when I brought it to his attention he responded via text "FUCK YOU , YOUR RENT IS $900.00. GET OUT! SEE YOU IN COURT." NOTES: *our lease agreement is made with his LLC, which is in delinquent status. *He refused to give receipts, up until October I had a paper trail with the checks so I didn't think about it. Afterwards it was cash and his ledgers had that accurate. *He has exercised 2 other lockouts which can be proven via saved text messages.
Then the disaster. I went to work on Monday at approximately 6:40 AM leaving the house . I returned at about 1:00 PM to discover the front door lock had been changed. My roommates son let me in and while I discovered my bedroom door locked my roommate began exclaiming: "that's him that's the guy. Call the cops, [landlord'e name] said he isn't supposee to be here. I had a bench warrant (which has been quashed) so I left. I called the county clerks office and verified there was no motion for eviction of file. I text my landlord several polite times that day and called: my attempts were met with radio silence. After I quashed the warrant the next morning I called sherrif who advised me to call the local police. They showed up and spoke with my roommate and after verifying with the county clerk they advised my roommates that I was legally entitled to be there. The landlord never answered their attempts either. I called a locksmith and was waiting for them when the landlord showed up. He comes in the house and tells me "GET THE FUCK OUT, THERE'S NOTHING IN YOUR ROOM!" While I was letting what he said sink in he grabbed me by the front collar and yanked me off the couch. I never caught my balance and he threw me into a wall before throwing me out the front door. The other tenant (who I believe is working with my landlord) was an eye witness to the whole thing. I called 911 to report the assault and was advised to wait in my vehicle until the police arrived. They showed up (different set of cops) and didn't approach me for almost half an hour because dispatch never told them I was waiting in my vehicle. When I got to my room EVERYTHING I EVER OWNED WAS GONE! FROM MY SISTER'S CREMATED REMAINS, BIRTH CERTIFICATE. SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, WORK EQUIPMENT, CLOTHING, REFRIGERATOR, FULL BED SET... I was left with the clothes on my back. I don't know what my land lord told them but they wrote me off. They wanted to know who of my friends had access to my room because when the landlord showed up the day before (to illegally lock out another tenant) he said he discovered my room that way and assumed I abandoned the property. That eye-witness tenant has a door adjacent to mine and said she never saw anyone going in and out. I do know he told them a friend of mine must have broke in and stole from me. He was seething when the cops made him make me a copy of the key to my room and then he added my fingerprint to the front door lock.
I have grabbed what I could salvage from the mess. I have also started canvassing the neighborhood to see if anyone saw anything, no luck so far but there's still a lot more houses. I'm preparing a statement and (an incredibly detailed) inventory of what was missing to present my case to the landlord as I have 5 judicial days to do it. What else can I / should I do? My landlord illegal took my world and although I've tried my best to play Mr. Nice Guy I want to fuck his world like has mine.

I need your advice and experiences regarding an issue I’ve been having with my former landlord. Here’s a detailed account of my situation:
Background:

• I moved out of a rental property in Destin, Florida on January 15th, 2024, even though my lease officially ended on January 18th. I paid rent through the 18th.
• My landlord promised to return my security deposit within 60 days.
• The deposit was delayed due to an address error (they initially left out my apartment number), causing the check to be returned and resent.
• I finally received the check around 75 days after moving out, which is beyond the 60-day promise.

Issues with the Deposit:

• The check I received was for $900 and some change, whereas I was expecting around $1500-$1600.
• Along with the check, I received an itemized paper that was completely blank—no details on deductions.
• I contacted the property manager about the missing funds. She initially claimed I was 11 days late in submitting my 60-day notice, which would justify the deduction for those 11 days.
• I had proof (a signed document by the main manager and myself) showing I was only 2 days late, not 11.

Current Situation:

• After several emails, the manager admitted their mistake and promised to send a new check with the correct amount, around $700 more.
• This promise was made over a month and a half ago, and I still haven’t received the new check.
