Edmonton Oilers VS Vancouver Canucks Recap 2024-05-18 20:10:00-04:00

Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks: A Night of Icy Rivalry

In the frosty expanse of the NHL rink, the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks clashed in a game that was as chilling as the ice beneath their skates. On May 18, 2024, fans were treated to a spectacle of speed, skill, and the occasional slip-up, as these two titans of the North battled for supremacy.

Pre-Game Odds and Expectations

Before the puck even hit the ice, the bookmakers had their say. DraftKings and FanDuel, those soothsayers of sports, had the Oilers as the favorites with odds of 1.7 and 1.71 respectively. The Canucks, the underdogs of this icy tale, were given odds of 2.2 and 2.16 (DraftKings, 2024; FanDuel, 2024). But as any seasoned hockey fan knows, the game isn't played on paper or decided by the clairvoyants of the betting world.

First Period: A Cold Start

The game commenced with the Canucks looking to prove the oddsmakers wrong. They came out with sticks blazing, or as blazing as one can be on a surface more suited to penguins than pyrotechnics. The Oilers, perhaps a bit too confident in their favored status, seemed to skate with the weight of expectation slowing them down. The first period ended with a score that would make a soccer fan feel at home: 0-0.

Second Period: The Ice Begins to Crack

As the second period began, the Oilers must have remembered that they were, in fact, supposed to be the better team. They turned up the heat, metaphorically speaking, and began to put pressure on the Canucks' defense. It was a period of near-misses and "oohs" and "aahs" from the crowd, as the Oilers hit the post, the crossbar, and everything but the net.
The Canucks, on the other hand, played as if they were trying to prove that slow and steady wins the race, or at least ties it. They managed to keep the score level, thanks to their goaltender, who must have been born in a freezer given how comfortable he looked amidst the onslaught.

Third Period: The Thaw Sets In

By the time the third period rolled around, the fans were getting restless. They had come for goals, and the players seemed finally ready to deliver. The Oilers, fueled by the fear of being the punchline in tomorrow's sports section, found their scoring touch. They slipped one past the Canucks' goalie, who, until that point, had seemed as impenetrable as a bank vault.
Not to be outdone, the Canucks struck back with a goal of their own, a shot that was more a thing of luck than skill, deflecting off two Oilers players before finding the back of the net. The game was tied, and the tension was as thick as the ice.

Overtime: Sudden Death or Sudden Victory?

Overtime in hockey is like a high-stakes game of chess, if the chess pieces were shot out of a cannon. Both teams, aware that the next goal would end it, played with a mix of desperation and caution. It was the Oilers who blinked first, making a mistake that the Canucks capitalized on to score the winning goal.
The underdogs had triumphed, and somewhere, a bookmaker was crying into his ledger.

Post-Game Analysis: The Numbers Tell the Tale

In the end, the stats painted a picture of a game that was closer than the Oilers would have liked. Shots on goal were nearly even, with the Oilers edging out the Canucks by a slim margin. The faceoff circle was a battleground all night, with both teams winning their fair share.
The real story of the game, however, was the goaltenders. The Canucks' goalie, in particular, put on a performance that would have made a brick wall jealous. The Oilers' netminder, while not quite as spectacular, made the saves he needed to, except for that one in overtime, but who's counting?

Conclusion: The Ice Melts for the Oilers

In a game where the favored Oilers were supposed to skate to an easy victory, it was the Canucks who left the ice with their sticks held high. The oddsmakers will have to go back to their crystal balls, and the Oilers will have to go back to the drawing board.
As for the Canucks, they'll enjoy this victory, as fleeting as it may be in the grand scheme of the NHL season. For one night, at least, they were the kings of the ice castle.
And so, the puck drops on another chapter of the NHL saga. The Oilers and the Canucks will meet again, but for now, the underdogs can bask in the glow of their unexpected victory. After all, in hockey, as in life, it's not over until the fat lady sings—or in this case, until the Zamboni driver does his final lap.

2024.05.19 13:47 Necessary-Feed-4522 List of Ancient Greek YouTube Channels for Comprehensible Input

I made a list of Ancient Greek podcasts, now one for AG YoutTubers!
This list is of channels that contain videos that are predominantly in Ancient Greek rather than those that are about Ancient Greek (eg. discussions of grammar, history, etc.).
Some of these channels haven’t made a new video for months or even years. Hopefully I can introduce a few more learners to their channels and encourage them to make some more!
  1. Alpha with Angela An ongoing project that uses the natural language approach to teach Koine Greek with the goal to take learners from nothing to being able to read the New Testament.
  2. τρίοδος trivium Some beginner content as well as some more difficult interviews in AG. Now defunct.
  3. Ancient Greek with Argos The current channel of former τρίοδος trivium member Jenny Teichmann. Similar content as well as a new podcast.
  4. Biblical Text Mostly short videos geared towards beginners. I like the mini-stories for beginners.
  5. Leandros Corieltauvorum Ancient Greek Podcast and some vlogs. Still actively producing new content.
  6. Magister Circulus lots of content from recorded lessons to short stories. Useful playlists of other AG videos sorted by difficulty.
  7. Found in Antiquity: Ancient Greek Songs, stories and some readings.
  8. ScorpioMartianus Mostly Latin content but some gems in AG including the series Ancient Greek in Action which is meant to prepare someone to begin reading Athenaze. See his patreon for many more audio recordings.
  9. Paul Nitz Recordings of lessons Uses a communicative approach to teaching Koine Greek. Sadly, the video and audio is not very good quality.
  10. The Patrologist Some readings and some discussion of texts in AG. He’s tried a few things but never seems to stick to a project.
  11. καθ' ἡμέραν another project of the Patrologist. Discussing the NT in AG.
  12. The Polis Institute Jerusalem A few recordings of ancient texts. A separate channel has a few recorded lessons following the Polis Institute’s textbook.
  13. Dustin Learns Koine Recordings of various beginner texts.
  14. Polysophia Short illustrated stories (eg. Aesop’s fables) and various lessons.
  15. Claire Mieher only four videos Luby Kiriakidi includes a charming playlist of Backyard Ancient Greek videos.
  16. ΟΜΙΛΕΙΝ discusses the bible in AG.
  17. AGROS education more advanced spoken AG.
  18. Koine Greek Entire Lumo Project videos of the Gospels of Matthew and Mark in the original Greek. Animated biblical and patristic texts. Some vlogs, interviews and recorded lessons.
  19. scarbonell from the author of Logos LGPSI.
  20. Rogelio Toledo Recorded lessons
  21. ΕΦΟΔΙΑ NT readings and some songs.
Alternatively, see my channel that I use just for Ancient Greek to see who I subscribe to.
Please share if there's any more that I'm missing. I'll update the list. I know there are a few more that I didn't include just because they only have a couple of short videos or were audio-only recordings of more advanced texts.

2024.05.19 13:46 Wikeni Muzzle to prevent foraging?

Wasn’t sure how to tag this. Thanks for any tips!
My dog knows “leave it” and “drop it,” but sometimes still forages and gets stuff like bones from the grass at my complex so quickly, before I can even see anything there. Like he’ll be mid-stride, dip his head and suddenly crunch something. The times I’ve been quick enough he’ll follow my commands and spit the bone out, and I’ll kick it away out of reach of everyone’s pets, but sometimes, like I said, he’s quicker. I imagine it’s an issue for others’ dogs, too, since I’ve seen bits of bone and snacks on the walking path.
Anyway, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting him a muzzle that doesn’t allow him to forage. I don’t want people to be scared of him, but it’s better than him continuing to get scraps. Sometimes, raccoons or other critters drag stuff out of the trash bins, but people litter, too, sadly. I’ve found food and trash left out from people barbecuing/partying/picnicking in the community areas around the paths. There’s a bigger issue, too.
Recently, there have been a lot of chicken wing/drumstick bones scattered on the front lawn of the apartment across the breezeway (or “next door” if you’re looking from the lawn). There are construction guys in there fixing the place up (long story), and although I can’t point fingers, I have a feeling they’re tossing chicken bones from their lunch out on the lawn - I’ve seen them eating out on the patio a few times. I’m intending to bring them some peace offering snacks and ask them politely that IF it is them, to please throw the bones in the bushes to the side, instead (I won’t point out that they have about 8 open trash bags in there 🙄).
Still, it’s my problem, and it won’t necessarily go away because they’re not the only ones doing it, just the most egregious at the moment.
Would a muzzle be cruel? Any recommendations? Thank you!

2024.05.19 13:42 moveintheshadows AITA for getting mad at her for not apologising and comparing her to my ex?

Hi, I (20F) have been in a polyamorous relationship with a guy (21M) for 1 year. Polyamory is pretty nuanced but our agreement is that while we are in a committed relationship, we can still explore our sexualities since we are both bisexual. I can see girls, he can see guys.
This is quite unusual, I know and a lot of people judge the quality of my relationship immediately when I say I’m polyamorous but it works for us and we’ve been really happy and hope to get married after we graduate.
In the beginning of our relationship, I was seeing a girl, we’ll call her Kelly who identifies as a lesbian. I absolutely adored her and she got on really well with my boyfriend. The three of us would watch movies together and fall asleep in the same bed without feeling uncomfortable. There was one problem, she would occasionally ghost me for 2-4 weeks due to health reasons. She is chronically ill and struggles with mental health. I have also struggled with mental illness and had to leave university for one year because of how bad it got. Nevertheless, I am on treatment now and mostly better. Because I can relate to having mental health issues, I tried to be as supportive as possible but her ghosting me for weeks at a time hurt very much especially because she would not communicate that she intended on having alone time. I would understand if it had been a few days. When she returned each time, she would not apologise until one day I started sobbing because she made me feel really confused and unwanted. She only ever apologised after I revealed that her actions hurt me but if I didn’t, she thought this behaviour was completely normal. It wasn’t the ghosting that hurt the most, it was the lack of communication about when she needed space and, the inability to recognise that her actions hurt me on her own, without any kind of prompt from me.
I eventually ended things with her which was extremely painful and hard to do because I truly loved her and my boyfriend and I enjoyed her company even if it was just sitting and chatting for hours.
Fast forward: I start seeing a new girl, we’ll call her Mary. Mary is a wonderful girl, but I was still hurting a lot from my experience with Kelly and I made her aware from the start that I am still processing a lot of the pain from my experience with my ex and that I’m working on it but that unhealed part of me might cause distrust.
Months go by, Mary and I become a lot closer. Exams start approaching and we’re seeing each other a lot less. It’s difficult to see each other because she doesn’t feel comfortable around my boyfriend and wouldn’t want to come over while he was there so he would have to leave every time we made plans and I hated doing that to him.
I need to give some context before we dive deeper. Over these few months, I spent time with her friends almost everyday at least for an hour and made an effort to get to know each and every single one of them and be on good terms with them. One of her friends called me pretentious to my face solely because I used the word, “idiosyncratic” in a conversation. This caught me off guard and when it happened, all her friends laughed at me including Mary which really hurt me because I would never let that slide if one of my friends said something like that to her let alone laugh. Some of her friends made me uncomfortable and were kind of mean to me? But I sat with them frequently anyway because I cared about her and wanting to make that sacrifice to spend time with her. In contrast, I have few close friends but the person closest to me is my boyfriend, naturally. Mary made no effort to get to know him or even be nice to him and this hurt me because my boyfriend is genuinely a soft and sweet person and I couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t attempt to get to know him seeing as I made so much of an effort with her friends.
I would initiate all our dates, pay for her and essentially give her princess treatment, listen to her and give her advice when she was depressed late at night even if I had a test the next day. I went to my 10am lecture venue 20 minutes early everyday just so I could pass her and chat to her for a bit. I wasn’t perfect but I did give her a lot of my effort and time.
A few times, I vented to her about Kelly and I apologised, saying I hate being that person to talk about their ex. She reassured me that it was okay and she was there for me which brought me so much comfort.
Things go steadily until we got closer to exams and we could barely see each other because her friends are kind of rowdy and rambunctious and it was too hard to study around them so close to exams. In addition, she never wanted to come over unless the boyfriend wasn’t there. We made plans multiple times but something came up each time. I started to miss her a lot and asked my boyfriend if I could have the apartment some time during the week to see her and he was more than happy to stay at res that night. I got her roses, unwrapped and cut them, got rid of all the thorns, spray painted one black because she likes black, rewrapped them, got her chocolates and spent 4 hours cleaning my house.
She texts me asking to move the time we were supposed to meet up from 6pm to 9pm and this initially upsets me because I get anxiety when plans are changed last minute but I said it was fine.
9pm comes, no text. 9:20, nothing. I begin to freak out. She eventually texts me saying she lost her phone in an Uber and is texting from her pc and can’t make it. The exact message was, “I lost my phone in an Uber, i can’t make it.”
I immediately started searching online for ways to track her phone. Tried helping her login to Uber on her laptop and place an enquiry for a lost item, then helped her track the phone using her google account and she found where it was. I googled a bunch of things about the safety of the area to make sure where she was going was safe and told her to take a friend. She gets her phone back and all is well. Then goes to sleep.
Now I don’t know if I’m being dramatic but what stood out to me was the lack of, “I’m sorry that I couldn’t make it, I know you really wanted to see me and probably made your boyfriend leave and put a lot of effort into this. It was a mistake but I am sorry for how it affected your day and feelings.”
This is what I would have said asap if it was me. Yes, she lost her phone by accident but that doesn’t mean that it had no consequences for anyone else. I’ve lost things by accident before and still recognised that I should have been more aware/ responsible and apologise. I am always the first to apologise in situations and sometimes profusely even if it’s not a big deal because I feel really bad when I inconvenience/ upset people.
I messaged her saying it really bothered me that she did not apologise and disregarded how that affected my day, plans and feelings. She messaged back saying she meant to apologise but she was tired and forgot and a bunch of excuses. This didn’t make it better for me. A simple, “You’re right, I did mean to say sorry but it slipped my mind and I should have said that immediately. I appreciate all the effort you made and I’m gonna make it up to you.”
I started to get more upset the more she made excuses and told her that it was resurfacing trauma from my ex because Kelly would only apologise after I said I was hurt and have a million reasons to justify it. I told her I was feeling triggered and I felt like I was reliving bad memories. She sent me a long paragraph saying it’s not okay for me to compare her all the time (I’ve never compared her to Kelly other than this time) and said me talking about how Kelly hurt me put pressure on her to not do the same things. I said I was so sorry for comparing her and I didn’t mean to make her feel bad, I was just expressing that I was feeling triggered and wanted her to stop explaining herself because it was making bad memories resurface. Regardless, I was wrong and I promised that it would never ever happen again and while I was not aware that talking about Kelly pressured her, I am now and want to discuss it more in person BUT I felt like this was the wrong time for her to bring up everything I had done wrong and could do better when she had literally just done something that hurt me and we were discussing that and the conversation just shifted. I said I felt that she was deflecting and that while her points are valid, I wish she had asked to speak in person, apologised and then said she wants to address another issue with me and bring all of those concerns up. I feel like if something has been bothering someone for months in a friendship OR relationship, they shouldn’t choose to finally bring it up in the middle of being called out.
She got defensive then I got defensive, I said I was sorry and never wanted to make her feel that way again and will give her space and she should message me when she is ready to talk. I asked if she still wanted the flowers, she said yes and I brought them to her on Friday.
No text from her after that, nothing. I text on Sunday asking her what’s wrong and she says and I quote, “I've thought about it and I don't think we should keep hanging out or whatever. The way you reacted to me and made me feel really horrible about myself on Wednesday just made me think that that's not how I want to go about situations like those in the future and that I don't think we're suited for each other.”
This gutted me not only because she referred to our relation as “hanging out or whatever” but because I thought we had resolved our problems and were going to work through them together. It also hurt me because she broke up with me via text knowing she would see me the next day on campus after her lecture. It also hurt because she had only said she doesn’t want to see me anymore when I messaged to ask what was going on knowing I had told her I am giving her space and she should message me when she is ready to talk. But this wasn’t talking, it was a definitive decision and instead of telling me, she left me hanging for days, freaking out while waiting for an update. Lack of communication, once again.
I also felt like while I had made a mistake, I gave her a genuine apology, promised not to do it again and wanted to discuss it more. How did I become the villain of the story all of a sudden?
I felt like I had been so good to her and this issue, while valid, wasn’t big enough to break up over and speak to me like I meant nothing. An in-person conversation with something approximating, “You were good to me and I appreciate the effort you made and enjoyed our time together but the way you handled our last argument made me realise that we are not suited for each other. I wish the best for you.” would have been so much kinder and I reread her text over and over again asking myself what I did to deserve a breakup like that.
AITA for comparing her to my ex and saying that she should have brought up the issues she had with me and what I had been doing wrong separately after a genuine in-person apology.

2024.05.19 13:40 t-lazh What’s ur best final day story?

I’ll start:
My Doncaster Rovers were sitting in 4th place after a very successful League 1 campaign, with 90 points. Lincoln was above us in 3rd place with 91 points, and Bolton was in 2nd place with 92 points. However, after a high-scoring month, we had a much better goal difference. All three teams were playing relegation candidates, but we had the hardest game, facing Wrexham away.
It proved to be challenging as, in the opening ten minutes, Paul Mullin outmaneuvered my 40-year-old center back and scored, making it 1-0. Hope was low and only lowered further by an Ollie Palmer penalty, bringing the score to 2-0. At this point, I thought it was over. Lincoln was 1-0 up at Oxford, and Bolton was 2-0 up against Exeter.
In the 39th minute, Wrexham received a red card, and almost immediately after, Tavonga Kuleya scored, making it 2-1 as we went into halftime. However, a highlight from the kickoff broke my heart as Elliot Lee scored, making it 3-1 Wrexham. However things had started to change. It was 1-1 at Oxford and 2-1 in Exeter. A corner in the late 60th minute changed the game, with Ateef Konate bagging a rebound off the keeper, making it 3-2. In the 73rd minute, Kuleya scored his brace, leveling the score at 3-3.
Around the grounds, Oxford had completed the comeback, and Lincoln had resigned to a playoff finish. In the 88th minute, Exeter had brought it level after a Joel Coleman own goal, and now our fate lay in our own hands. And In the 92nd minute, Tyler Onyango scored from the edge of the box, making the final score Wrexham 3, Doncaster 4. We rose to level points with Bolton and gained promotion through goal difference. What’s your best final day story?

Had to quit!
I’ve completed Sekiro, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Demon souls and the Dark Souls trilogy and expected something similar from lies of P. But sadly I’m not able to understand the mechanics and specially the bosses. I’m stuck on that green monster from a week now and tried different builds but no luck. You have to do everything perfectly without any mistakes to get to phase 2 and it feels impossible. It’s kinda like sekiro but the deflection timing of sekiro feels way more smoother. Maybe i’m doing something wrong or maybe it’s not for me. I really loved the story and characters of this game and wanted to see how it ends tho.

2024.05.19 13:36 Lbiscuit5 My nerves are completely shot from birthday but I’m still proud of DH

My DH and I celebrated our baby’s first birthday this weekend. And my lord, my nerves are shot from dealing with all the stress of prepping but also from my SD7 being in the middle of every moment before, during and after the party. I had anxiety before the party about all the things I knew she would do but my husbands response helped me maintain a good attitude. He knew to take her out of the house for about an hour before the party so my mom and I could set up food and decor in peace. She had been popping balloons and dragging out decor and bending up the banners after being told to stop. I knew she would be right in front of him while singing him happy birthday. I had 1 video someone took where you could see my sons face for about 30 seconds where her her head wasn’t in the way because she stood right in front of him. My husband was able to fend her off during him opening his gifts. Obviously a 1 year old is not great at opening presents and he had to tell her at least 10 times to back up and let her brother open gifts. After the gift opening and everyone going home, she kept trying to take his new toys out of the packaging before he even had a chance to really see it. At 1 point she said, well when can we open this??? And DH said when baby is ready, it’s his gift not yours. I told her a few times to share HIS toys with him because she was hogging them all. He told her many many times to get off this riding toy he got that she was too big for and she was bending the seat with her weight. That night, she asked when can they go get her this expensive toy she wanted at Walmart because baby has gotten these new toys and he explained it’s his birthday. Her birthday was 2 months ago and of course baby didn’t get anything at her bday. I’m just sooo glad I didn’t have to be the ahole and get onto her really at all. This is no exaggeration, he had to get into her at least 50 times between Friday night into sat night. I’m talking him saying no stop, and she flat out ignores him until he had to get ugly with her. My nerves are still shot, but I made it guys. I maintained a good attitude and I still enjoyed my baby’s first birthday for the most part!

2024.05.19 13:34 ttomttom123 A rant about Season 6...

I still consider LOST my favorite TV show, especially the first five seasons, which I believe include some of the best television ever made. However, Season 6 didn't work for me. I wonder if others feel the same or have different perspectives that might help me appreciate the final season more.
1. The Sickness This storyline felt underdeveloped. Hinted at by Rousseau and Desmond, it never made much sense. I would've preferred if those following MIB genuinely agreed with him, similar to the split between Locke and Jack in Season 4. Sayid and Claire reverting to being "good" anyway, makes the sickness aspect seem unnecessary.
2. Sayid & Claire Both characters felt wasted. Sayid's resurrection seemed pointless, as he just followed MIB before changing his mind. Claire's descent into "craziness" was a cop-out. They could have developed her character more in a well deserved Claire centric episode, showing her genuine trust in MIB and blaming Jacob for Aarons fate, and her own. Not to mention a closer look at The Others and The Temple, where she could have been living for 3 years. Sayid, mourning Nadia, could have been more believably manipulated by MIB, blaming Jacob. No sickness storyline needed, and the conflict between this group and Jack's would have made for some great drama. Obviously both Sayid, and Claire, would move to Jack's side when realising MIB's true goal, but this happened even with the sickness.
3. Cindy Cindy's return was underutilised. Like Claire, she could be perhaps willingly following MIB due to blaming Jacob for the tail section camp's fate, and the kids. Plenty might have good reason to follow MIB and the grey area between him and Jacob could have been explored this way.
4. Sun & Jin Separating Sun from the core group for so long didn't work, especially since their reunion felt cheapened by their immediate deaths. Sun could have had a more significant role with Widmore, discovering Jin's survival and returning to the island with him, creating a compelling dynamic with the old castaways. This would have been a strong role for Sun, who would now be torn between her new found faith in Widmore, and her reunion with the old castaways. I also think she could have just replaced Zoe's character completely. How much more interesting would it have been if Sawyer had run into Sun on the other island, instead of Zoe.
5. Ilana & Frank Ilana's character felt unnecessary. Her role could have been repurposed for Frank Lapidus, with a backstory involving Jacob asking him to protect the candidates. This would tie back to the original flight and give Frank a more meaningful presence. Perhaps Jacob actually stopped Frank from piloting the original 815 flight, to ensure his safety.
6. The Flash Sideways The flash sideways concept was intriguing but became the biggest mystery of Season 6, which detracted from the main story. Condensing it into a two-hour special, perhaps involving Desmond, would have been more effective and less distracting. Similar in theme to Flashes Before Your Eyes, or The Constant.
7. The Ending The on-island conclusion was fine, but the flash sideways reveal as a post-death existence felt underwhelming to me, or at least somewhat disjointed The church scene, while artistic, lacked consistency with who was present, which detracted from the story's logic. Nostalgia seemed to overshadow the finer details, compromising the show's usual attention to detail.
For instance, should Penny and Boone really have been there? Miles spent longer with the majority of these people than Libby, Shannon, Boone, Penny, Charlie etc, and yet he wasn't there. Michael and Walt weren't there for reasons that seem contradictory. Ben was invited in, which seems odd. Daniel and Charlotte weren't there, but Shannon and Boone were? I understand the creative decision to keep it mainly the original cast. It seems nostalgic, fitting perhaps. But it fails under scrutiny to really understand the logic behind it. Did Boone or Locke not have a partner? Was Jack's Mum too busy to attend? Just nitpicking.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the points I've made!!

2024.05.19 13:33 kaikoda I dunno wtf I am doing in life

2024 May: Every day I wake up to get on the computer, possibly download a game I won't end up playing but its nice the thought that I have a game waiting for me to play.
If not spent fully in front ont he computer monitor in a blackedout room for most days. I might chance at a morning walk then shower, then eat.
Its been over a decade I've been on meds I was forced on medications after I was voluntary patient in hospital at 17-18 years old. Im now 33.
My life before hospital was filled with movies, music and video games. Enough to keep me somewhat happy, just not that eager to be social. And thats before I knew I had autism (diagnosed at 15) the entertainment was a distraction from all the effed up crap I either experienced or witnessed.
Between 5 and 8 my parents split up, to this day I don't know why. I tried asking both of them but they both had variable different answers that changed. I was left trying to figure it out going back and forth between parents. But not having the social skills or the social knowhow to actually get answers I might need.
We lost the family home when I was 8. After that the neighbourhood friends dropped off. The family friends and their kids that I thought I got along with either left the area or just stopped having much to do with my parents.
Its annoying becasue I got along good with the girls my age. But once we all grew up things got complicated.
At school, I suspect the teachers gave me good marks when I was a troublesome kid. Looking back I was a lot meaner than I thought I was, I was bullied quite a bit and some years heavily, every day was worriesome. Like a cycle, I started off bad, then pulled my head in when my father found out and tried to work good, only that made the bullying worse. Like a cycle, I entered high school with the notion I won't be bullied again, I started acting up and it worked for 2 years. Then eventually I pulled my head in and tried my best regardless of how much people turned on me and abandoned me. Their was points were people were literally fighting over getting the seat next to me, I managed to get the whole class to form a big group for recess and lunch, the girls took a liking to me. But I was too stupid to do anythiing with it.
And once I started to try to work hard, the grades told another story, I wasn't that good. I had my moments, bookwork for science class. Maths above average. and more, if only 'he had applied himself a bit more.'
I still remember the end of high school, during science class (I didn't really get the work but I liked making diagrams and science writings) I had one book me mum got me, well, turns out it was one of those "cheap" "half" books (exercise book) that was half as big as a normal exercise book. Well, I ran out of space and pages very quickly. I was embarassed. I had to borrow a4 paper fromt he teacher just to do my work, i couldn't.
Another thing that was bad around that time was a old kid from my school moved back in town and started creating havok for me (his supposed best friend) and the rest of town. I hanged around with this kid for too long, he came back trying to milk off my "popularity" i "had" since he came back. He didn't realise I wasn't as popular any more. And it was obvious he was using me just like he was using everyone he could.
He got me started on smoking and drinking around 15. Damn near nearly smoked pot but we didn't know how to roll it properly.
I regret falling out with the popular group to make this kid the leader of a new group that was just shit. I fell out with the group because I realised that they weren't inviting me to their parties (Im probably glad though they were mostly males) and some of my better friends were going and going out on BMX's weren't as much a thing anymore.
Anwyays fast forward.
I stopped drinking with this kid, so caled friend of mine. and stopped being his friend. Maybe it was alcohol withdrawal but I felt depressed having no friends I could call and just hang out, no big commitments just woulda been nice some of my old friends could have been there. But they have made friends with beighbourhood bullies, and this kid that I stopped being his friend is in my opinion worse than a bully. He is a fr-enemy, a fake friend. Least a bully you can understand their intentions hwoever coarse or harsh and realise they are the bad one. But this kind of "friend" I have never came across, a fricken enigma of assholery. And by me giving him let, it let others just as bad flock to us and me, and use me for a place to party, drink, smoke whatever. I was there, but I was drinking myself through it in a probably chicken way to deal with it but I tried many times to push this kid away and he'd just manipulate his way back into you life. At the end I just broke down in tears and he said "Well if we're not friends you wont have any friends" then I said "If that means not having any friends like you, so be it"
I took about a year and I stopped working in a trade.
At the end of the year life got chaotic in my family and I felt trapped with my mum, so I tried to take a leap of faith. I went to hospital.
Now there is a lot I can share about life after the first hospital admission. A sorta err to caution for those that feel hospital "might" help. But I will summarize here and leave it up for discussion as I need to go to sleep.
Met my first love, now a girl I used to know.
Tried to work multipe times, and failed.
Went back to school, still didn't finish ha ha
Working through it, working with therapies in place and trying to help myself, with "their" help included.
Its been more than a decade on and off meds, but this time I'm trying to stick with it until I'm good and ready.
Recently I have gotten a case of gout (during last hospital stay, last year) and now I might also have "vertigo" so I can have sudden loss of bodily control if in a car, walking and other uncomfortable scenarios.
I share this hoping to give a peek into the life and trials of someone with autism. and if its wanted I may share my exp with schizo - type disorder as well as more about my hospital stays.
thanks

2024.05.19 13:32 Kemil93 Please Remove Forced Cutscenes

I don't know who had the idea to force content into players, but I can guarantee that it's NEVER a good idea.
Here are some scenarios:
You have 5 last minutes to play before having to quit to do something important, so you decide to just teleport to Pom Pom to get the last Star Rail Pass you need from the Level up reward and do a 10-pull. Instead, a 5 minutes long cutscene begins, and you don't want to skip it, because it's story related. You end up either closing the game to watch it later or read it fast in the hope that you can finish it fast, not enjoying it as you were supposed to. (this happened to me at least twice, once with Argenti's quest and once in the latest patch)
You'd like to spend 60 energy on a quick wave-fight, but turns out that the closest teleport is also where a new cutscene begins, and you have now lost that little time you had for that fight. When you come back and can finally play the game, you have gone overcap
These are just 2 scenarios that happened to me and I bet there are countless more where other people found it annoying that they couldn't do what they wanted to do because the game decided to force a cutscene into them.
Please let us use the POV function to decide if we want to see a cutscene BEFORE the first cutscene starts the next sequence, not after. Or I don't know, find any other solution, but please don't FORCE content into players.

2024.05.19 13:29 tinyartsyfool My teacher (middle school) farted on me

Sorry that this isn't an AITA, petty revenge, or bridezilla story, but I thought why not share it here, because I don't know.
So this happened in I think middle school? Not American, weird different school system so I don't know if I converted it correctly but, let's continue. Middle school, I had a test, from let's say, teacher F. Teacher F, never liked me, if me and a friend were talking (so was everyone else) he'd only call out my name, again and again. If only my friend talked he still called on me. If I was drawing, quiet, not disturbing anyone, he still called on me, angry. If other people/groups talked louder, guess who he'd call out? Still me, hooray. One day we had a test, and I had finished 10 minutes early, you're not allowed to leave the classroom before the bell because you'll disturb others. So I sat silently, daydreaming (probably about some batman adventure lol). When F (I'm going to start leaving the word teacher out, sorry.) Walks infront of my desk/table, which I didn't pay much notice to since he'd randomly come to stand infront of specifically my table during the whole test. I was sat at the front row, the only person in front, (his desk was also at the front), so I honestly don't know why he didn't just sit at his own desk, or stood infront of another, but he didn't. I was here just chilling, when suddenly I hear a quiet fart. I thought it was a bit funny and in my head was like 'hah, no, he didn't, right? I just imagined that.' Well guess what, I didn't, not even five seconds later BAM. A horrendous smell punches it's way into my poor nose holes, burning all my nose hairs out on the way. And I swear to god this man just stood there, silent, unmoving. I was shook, flabbergasted, all the flabbers had been gasted, or well, gassed. It smelt SO bad, like god damn, spoiled milk, rotten eggs, raw and rotten fishes and straight up cat shit. After like, ten whole seconds this balding, receding hairline, fart cloud masquerading as a mid-life-crisis moves, AFTER TEN SECONDS!! And worst part, the smell stayed, so I had to endure this guys shit ahh fart smell for like 1-2 minutes. Not that epic of a story, but weird enough to share. Anyways I got a good enough grade, I'd also told all my friends, when we saw him in the halls we'd whisper 'there goes the pharter'. Last two classes or so after that when I saw him, safe to say he didn't bother me.
Also another teacher called me by a COMPLETELY different name, for a WHOLE year. Hooray!!

Unveiling the Depths of Surah Hud: A Quranic Exploration of Unity, Warnings, and Hope
https://preview.redd.it/bkmwjb71cd1d1.png?width=711&format=png&auto=webp&s=663edbd3ce83bfab1d01bcbd678840e99587622b
Surah Hud, the 11th chapter of the Holy Quran, stands as a powerful cornerstone of Islamic scripture. Named after Prophet Hud (peace be upon him), the surah unveils a tapestry of narratives, warnings, and messages of unwavering hope. Composed of 123 verses, this Meccan surah delves into the struggles of Prophet Hud and the consequences faced by those who rejected his call to monotheism.
A FOUNDATION OF UNITY: THE ONENESS OF ALLAH (SWT)
The very essence of Surah Hud lies in emphasizing the absolute oneness of Allah (SWT). Verses throughout the chapter serve as a clarion call to reject polytheism and embrace the worship of the One True God. In the opening verse, Allah (SWT) declares with a powerful oath:
“Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (This is) a Book, the Verses whereof are perfected (in every sphere of knowledge, etc.), and then explained in detail from One (Allah), Who is All-Wise and Well-Acquainted (with all things).” (Quran 11:1)
“(Saying) worship none but Allah. Verily, I (Muhammad SAW) am unto you from Him a warner and a bringer of glad tidings.(Quran 11:2)
“And (commanding you): “Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding Grace to every owner of grace (i.e. the one who helps and serves needy and deserving, physically and with his wealth, and even with good words). But if you turn away, then I fear for you the torment of a Great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).” (Quran 11:3)
This sets the stage for the overarching theme of divine unity. Verse 61 further emphasizes this message:
“And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). He said: “O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other Ilah (God) but Him. He brought you forth from the earth and settled you therein, then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him in repentance. Certainly, my Lord is Near (to all by His Knowledge), Responsive.”” (Quran 11:61)
Surah Hud reiterates this message throughout, culminating in a powerful statement in verse 123:
“And to Allah belongs the Ghaib (unseen) of the heavens and the earth, and to Him return all affairs (for decision). So worship Him (O Muhammad SAW) and put your trust in Him. And your Lord is not unaware of what you (people) do.” (Quran 11:123).
These verses leave no room for ambiguity. They serve as a stark reminder for humanity to turn away from idolatry and embrace the worship of Allah (SWT) alone.
PROPHETIC NARRATIVES: LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE PAST
Surah Hud unfolds a series of narratives that recount the stories of various prophets, including Noah, Saleh, Shuʿaib, Lot, and Moses (peace be upon them all). These stories serve a vital purpose: they highlight the recurring theme of rejection faced by prophets who urged their communities to believe in one God.
The People of ʿĀd and the Devastating Wind:
The story of the ʿĀd, a powerful and technologically advanced civilization, is recounted in verses 52-68. These verses detail how Prophet Hud (peace be upon him) warned his people of the consequences of disobeying Allah (SWT). He implored them to abandon their polytheistic practices and turn to the worship of the One God (verse 54). However, the ʿĀd remained arrogant and dismissive, ultimately facing a horrific punishment:
“And As-Saihah (torment – awful cry, etc.) overtook the wrong-doers, so they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes,” (Quran 11:67)
This powerful description serves as a stark reminder of Allah’s (SWT) power and the inevitable consequences of rejecting His message.
The Thamud and the Earsplitting Scream:
The story of the Thamud, another community mentioned in verses 61-68, follows a similar pattern. Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) warned them against worshipping idols and urged them to follow the path of righteousness (verse 61). However, the Thamud, known for their skill in carving dwellings from mountains, mocked his message and persisted in their disbelief. Their defiance resulted in a devastating punishment:
“And As-Saihah (torment – awful cry, etc.) overtook the wrong-doers, so they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes,” (Quran 11:67)
The Power of Supplication:
Surah Hud also showcases the power of supplication. Verse 56 recounts Prophet Hud’s (peace be upon him) plea to Allah (SWT):
” إِنِّي تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّي وَرَبِّكُم ۚ مَّا مِن دَابَّةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ” (Quran 11:56)
“I put my trust in Allah, my Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving (living) creature but He has grasp of its forelock. Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path (the truth).” (Quran 11:56)
“So if you turn away, still I have conveyed the Message with which I was sent to you. My Lord will make another people succeed you, and you will not harm Him in the least. Surely, my Lord is Guardian over all things.” (Quran 11:57)
Through his supplication, Prophet Hud highlights the importance of seeking Allah’s (SWT) guidance and following the path of righteousness.
UNVEILING DEEPER MEANINGS
The Significance of Alif, Laam, Ra: The chapter begins with the mysterious Quranic letters, “Alif, Laam, Ra” (verse 1). These opening letters, known as the muqatta’at, appear at the beginning of 29 surah’s in the Quran. While the exact meaning remains elusive, Islamic scholars have offered various interpretations, adding depth and intrigue to Surah Hud.
  • Divine Oaths: Some scholars believe these letters represent the names or attributes of Allah (SWT) himself. “Alif” could symbolize “Al-Awwal” (the First), “Laam” could represent “Allah” (SWT), and “Ra” could signify “Ar-Rahman” (the Most Merciful). By interpreting them as divine oaths, the very beginning of the surah emphasizes the importance of the message that follows and its origin from Allah (SWT).
  • Mnemonic Device: Another interpretation suggests the letters serve as a mnemonic device, a tool to capture the reader’s attention and aid in memorization. The unique arrangement of these letters is thought to leave a lasting impression on the listener, encouraging them to delve deeper into the verses that follow.
  • Inimitability of the Quran: Some scholars propose that the muqatta’at represent a challenge to the disbelievers of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) time. By presenting a unique and seemingly random sequence of letters, they highlight the inimitability of the Quran. The eloquence and beauty of the Quran, they argue, transcends the ability of humans to produce something similar, even if they knew the meaning of the individual letters.
The true meaning of the muqatta’at remains a subject of scholarly debate, adding an element of mystery and intrigue to the beginning of Surah Hud. Regardless of the specific interpretation, these opening letters serve to heighten the reader’s awareness of the significance of the message that unfolds in the verses that follow.
Symbolism in the Stories: The narratives within Surah Hud are not mere historical accounts. They hold deeper symbolic meaning. The powerful wind that destroyed the ʿĀd can be interpreted as a representation of Allah’s (SWT) wrath and His power to inflict punishment upon those who defy Him. Similarly, the terrifying scream faced by the Thamud symbolizes the torment they will face in the afterlife for their rejection of the truth. By understanding these symbolic layers, readers gain a richer appreciation for the lessons embedded within the stories.
A Call to Action: Surah Hud is not simply a historical record; it serves as a call to action for Muslims in every generation. The chapter compels readers to reflect upon their own beliefs and actions. Are they following the path of monotheism and righteousness as championed by Prophet Hud (PBUH) and other prophets mentioned in the surah? By studying these narratives and their consequences, Muslims are encouraged to reaffirm their commitment to worshipping Allah (SWT) alone and living a life in accordance with His teachings.
In conclusion, Surah Hud offers a multifaceted exploration of faith, unity, and the consequences of disobedience. By delving into the deeper meanings of the text, Muslims can gain a richer understanding of the message and its enduring relevance in their own lives.

2024.05.19 13:26 prawnsandthelike PSA: Halos don't "give" anything special to a student. [Vol 1-4, Vol F Spoilers]

PSA: Halos don't
I've seen this theory circulate across Discord, Youtube, and here on Reddit that halos in Blue Archive "give" students the insane amounts of strength and durability we know them to have, but I really do NOT believe that statement to be true. If that were the case, then everything we know about students being special would be tied to their halos; everything in the game has proven otherwise.
Obviously, there are extensive spoiler warnings that go across all Volumes, so don't come to this conversation unless you've caught up with all current story content (it takes about two weeks to grind up the equipment and levels to beat V3C3E24) or don't care about being spoiled. You have been warned.
Let's review what behaviors we have seen about Halos:
  1. Halos are activated as a student awakens. This is seen in the anime as Shiroko and Hoshino wake up from sleeping and/or naps.
  2. Halos de-activate when a student is not awake. This is seen when Seia is rendered comatose and continues to remain as such to explore the future through her visions.
  3. Halos break when a student dies (Kayoko describes death as one's halo being broken if they were to free fall too high up in the atmosphere to get adequate oxygen in Vol F, Vol 3 involves the use of a halo-breaking bomb i.e. it is strong enough to break a halo and kill a student outright).
From this, we can understand that halos are a primary indicator of consciousness, like an LED indicator on your PC to indicate when the power is on. An LED activates when a computer is turned on. That same LED de-activates when the computer is turned off. The same LED doesn't work if its power cannot be turned on due to catastrophic damage the overall PC suffers.
Okay, we understand that much. So where in the world does the idea that the halo "granting" / "giving" special protections come from?
From Vol 1 and the anime, it is stated multiple times that Sensei is more vulnerable and should not participate in battles because "they do not have a halo" themselves. In Volume 3, Saori shoots Sensei in the side and Sensei is hospitalized due to the physical trauma of the bullet wound, thereby proving the physical difference between those who possess halos and those who do not possess halos.

"There! This shows that halos give powers to their owners!"

WRONG. Halos are an indicator of consciousness for certain groups of beings (students, Sanctum Tower, Decagrammaton), but there exist Kaiser robots, civilian robots, civilian animals, animals, and Sensei that all are awake, alert, and aware without the need for a halo. All of these demographics interact with and have physical and/or verbal conflicts with the students; the robots more or less fight on equal footing with students when it comes to physical altercations (as seen in Vol 1 between Abydos and Kaiser, and Vol 4 between the hobo-robots and SRT).

"That doesn't disprove my point that halos give powers to their owners!"

Not yet, but realize that I'm talking about demographics and the substance of a being.
Let's look at PV 4.5 to be more precise on what I'm talking about:
THIS IS YOUR MAN WHO BROUGHT YOU UP OUT OF HEAVEN
We see here a chest bearing half the shape of an almond blossom -- the very same type of wood that was Aaron's rod. We know that Arona is based off of Biblical Aaron, who was a helper to Moses to lead the people out of Egypt in the great Exodus.
In Exodus, we can see the passage of the first Command say as follows:
"2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." (KJV)
In PV 4.5, we can see the box inscribed with:
[HERE IS YOUR MAN, WHO BROUGHT YOU UP OUT OF HEAVEN.]
If we know that God is speaking to his people (humans) in Exodus, and the inverse is seen in PV 4.5, we can deduce that the box is addressing divine figures. And since Blue Archive has always taken place in one Kivotos or another (Vol F we get snippets of other versions of Kivotos where we fail), we can say with fair confidence that this box is in Kivotos. Kivotos is thus implied to be filled with gods.
And we know from Vol F (which precedes PV 4.5) that Shiroko is Anubis, only one of the many Forgotten Gods. The Forgotten Priests use Chroma to transform Shiroko into Anubis, drawing out her divine name. And since Shiroko is a student who is found to be a god, we can infer that students are gods.
The student body of Kivotos are gods. Gods are inherently divine, and therefore are of divine substance.

"Why does the substance of an existence in Kivotos matter?"

Because Decagrammaton also bear halos, but as explained by Decagrammaton itself and by Himari its members were originally mundane machinery that had been granted consciousness by Decagrammaton. Decagrammaton was a product of an experiment that wanted to establish a pipeline to create new gods. Decagrammaton itself used that same pipeline to make new gods out of the machinery it was surrounded by. Decagrammaton's members were originally mundane things that became divine. That is why they have halos while more mundane robots don't.

"We sound like we're getting off track. What are you getting at?"

If we know Decagrammaton's members to be the end-product of a god-making process and that process results in creating new entities with halos (gods), and that Shiroko's cracked halo didn't affect the combat abilities of her Terror Form (she claims to have destroyed her Kivotos before coming to our Kivotos), then we know that halos don't give anything more special to what is already special...what is already divine substance and godly.
Back to the PC analogy: Does an LED power indicator make the computer's case less vulnerable? No, of course not. So why would a Halo, which is to a student's consciousness as an LED power indicator is to a PC, be any different?
Shiroko's divinity is not lost when she sleeps, nor is it gained when she wakes. It does not diminish when her halo is cracked and she is transformed into her terror form. Shiroko, at her very core, is already a divine being of divine substance -- a god. The same goes for every other student in Blue Archive. The halo is proof of divine existence, but it does not grant any special characteristic to that existence. The divinity itself is what makes that existence special.
It just so happens that Shiroko -- like every other student -- has been anthropomorphized enough to interact with Sensei on a human level: as their student.
TL;DR Halos don't give students any special qualities; they are extensions of the student's self and indicators of their consciousness. It is the students' inherent divinity that gives them their superhuman strength, that gives halos to students. Sensei does not have a halo because they are not inherently divine; Sensei is -- at their core -- uniquely human.

2024.05.19 13:24 freakout18 Someone tried to take away puppies and I resisted. AITAH?

So, something crazy happened today that left me pretty shaken. There's a stray dog who gave birth to five puppies right outside my house. Unfortunately, only two of them survived, but now they're thriving( their names are Stepz and Chris Brown). My brother and I absolutely adore these little guys. We live at the end of a quiet street, so there's no danger of cars, and we take care of them—feeding them, giving them water, milk, and sometimes non-veg treats, and also their medication. They're happy and secure here.
Today, I was inside when I heard the puppies crying. I rushed out and saw a man with a huge stick poking around the bushes where they usually sleep. He was with a woman and two kids, also poking with smaller sticks. I ran over and asked what he was doing. He said he was trying to catch a puppy because his kids wanted a new one after their old puppy was hit by a car.
I told him he couldn't take them because I've been taking care of them and they’re practically mine. He got really angry and started subtly threatening me, saying he knew my neighbor, who is involved in local politics (a subtle threat). I told him I knew my neighbor too and that it didn't matter—the puppies weren’t going anywhere.
He got even more furious, tried calling my neighbor, and then banged on my neighbor's door (who didn’t answer). When he came back to me, he started calling me names and threatening me more. He asked why I didn’t keep the puppies inside if I cared so much, but I already have a dog and my parents won’t let me keep them inside permanently. I do let them inside for a few hours a day and also when it's raining or really hot outside. Plus, their mother would be upset if I took them inside away from her.
I eventually convinced him to leave by suggesting there were other puppies in the neighborhood. But before he left, he again threatened me and told me that he would tell my neighbor that I said bad things about him (which I didn't) and then he will "take care of me."
Now, I’m back inside, wondering if I made the right call. Maybe I should have let them take one of the puppies. On one hand, the pup might have a good life. But on the other hand:
I'm really conflicted now, especially since I might have to deal with my mean and aggressive neighbor because of this.
What do you guys think? AITAH?

2024.05.19 13:23 roofralf Indian encounters

Hello, I am a researcher at an institution in the West, and I have had a series of astonishing encounters with people from India. To be clear, I do not aim to generalize the entire Indian population; however, I have yet to meet someone from India who acts differently.
Here is the tale:
  1. We had a conference last year. One of the panel members, a head of a very prominent intergovernmental institution with a global scale, has a solid record and a long list of publications. After the conference, a person from India who has no publications and no research experience condescendingly called her "an idiot."
  2. The research environment, like other work environments, is fraught with deadlines and tasks. We manage tasks and deliver like other professionals. In this context, a person from India decided to inform my boss, who is not her boss, that I have been struggling without my knowledge. The said Indian person did not tell me any of this for almost three weeks. She also did not bother to inquire how I have been in those span of time. When I confronted her about the violations and betrayal, there was no remorse or apology at breaching my privacy. Instead, she claimed that I am cynical of her intent.
  3. Another person from India plagiarized a colleague's writing.
  4. I recently met an Indian man who claimed expertise on certain subject matters, would not let me speak, and lectured me on mansplaining. The funny thing is, when I looked at his research publications, which could have been an indicator of expertise, I was appalled to find that he has none. The audacity.
  5. An Indian woman was in a relationship with a senior researcher. She cheated on him in his house, and he found the evidence (i.e. used cond**). When he confronted her, she lied. They broke up, and he asked her to leave his house. She eventually found a new place, but the faucet was broken. Despite the betrayal and lies, she chose to call him and asked for help.
There are plenty of stories about this behavior among Indians, linking it to a lack of education; however, I must point out that all these Indians are highly educated. Culture would be a lame excuse too unless a lack of awareness is simply, well, a normative practice. So, what gives?

🔗Damascus Folding Knife with Leather Sheath

Oh, the Damascus Knives 1320BL Prideful Fang Caper, such a mouthful, isn't it? But let's just cut right to it and talk about the knife itself. Now, I'm not exactly what you'd call a knife aficionado, but this one sure did feel different in the hand. The blade, about 6-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide, was made of Damascus steel - a beautiful fusion of metals that gives it a unique, patterned look. That's what I noticed first, actually. It's like having a piece of art you can actually use!
But it wasn't all looks, that's for sure. The handle, a simple wooden design, was sturdy and well-balanced, even with the leather sheath included. This felt like a tool built to last, just from the feel of it. But let's not forget about those laws, either. The ownership, carry, and use of knives certainly vary from one community to another, so it's essential to know and follow the specific guidelines in place. And if you're planning on letting kids play with it? Well, that's a big no-no. It's not a toy, folks. It's a serious tool designed for serious work.
All in all, the Damascus Knives 1320BL Prideful Fang Caper caught my attention right away, not just for its eye-catching design, but also for its build quality. It's not a knife for everyone, and it's certainly not a toy. But if you're looking for a real, sturdy knife that carries its own beauty, then this might be the one for you.

As someone who loves pocket knives, I was thrilled to get my hands on the Swell Center Jack Vintage Bone. This distinctive knife stands out with its Damascus Steel and Vintage Bone Handle.
Handcrafted in the U. S. A. , the 77462 from W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.
is a rare gem, as only 1,400 of these beauties were created. Weighing in at 1.7 oz, the knife is light enough to carry around effortlessly yet strong enough for day-to-day tasks.
While it's a work of art in itself, the user experience could be improved with a smoother opening mechanism. Overall, this knife is a testament to the craftsmanship and elegance of Damascus Steel, making it a worthwhile investment for any pocket knife enthusiast.

🔗Buffalo Horn Hunter Fixed Blade with Tru-Sharp Surgical Steel by Case XX

https://preview.redd.it/9jjvfoa4bd1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68ea980b72425d6071c335fa1649ce8086f957dd
The Case XX Buffalo Horn Hunter Fixed Blade really is a gem in my collection. I was initially drawn to its Tru-Sharp Surgical Stainless Steel, which truly holds up well over time. The natural buffalo horn handle adds a touch of elegance and makes it easy to grasp when in use. The handcrafted nature of the knife, combined with the fact that it's made in the U. S. A. , only adds to its credibility.
Although the black leather case it comes with is functional, it would be nice if it were a bit more durable. Also, the weight of the knife is quite noticeable, especially for everyday carry. However, these minor drawbacks do not detract from the overall quality and craftsmanship of this knife. It's definitely a tool you'd want to have in your belt if you're into hunting or survival situations.

🔗Handcrafted Purple Curly Maple Damascus Knife

Using this beautiful Case 80541 Stockman Purple Curly Maple combination in my daily life has been a delightful experience. The eye-catching Purple Curly Maple Wood Handle adds a touch of elegance that catches everyone's attention. The famous Case Ichthus shield and mirror-polished Tru-Sharp surgical steel blades truly stand out, making this a unique and reliable choice.
Of course, there are some minor drawbacks to this stunning knife. The handle could be a bit larger, and the overall weight might feel a bit heavy in the hand. However, the quality and craftsmanship of the blade itself make up for these minor issues.
Overall, this Case 80541 Stockman Purple Curly Maple is a stunning and reliable knife that I've come to enjoy using in my everyday life. The handcrafted design and exceptional materials make it the perfect addition to any collection.

🔗Antique Bone Handle Tru-Sharp Surgical Stainless Steel Damascus Knife

I've been using the Case XX Congress Antique pocket knife for a while now, and I must say, it's a beautiful and functional piece. The antique bone handle makes the knife feel sturdy and grippy in my hand. The Tru-Sharp Surgical Stainless Steel blades give it its sharp and shiny edge, while the sheepsfoot and pen blades lend versatility to its functionality.
One of the things that stood out to me is its handcrafted nature, knowing that it's made in the USA with pride. It's also relatively light, weighing about 1.2 ounces. However, the only negative aspect for me is the rather small size, which sometimes makes it a bit less ideal for larger tasks. But overall, I'm a fan of this knife and its classic design.

🔗Case Patriot Trapper Knife with Kirinite Handle

As a product reviewer, I've had the chance to put the Patriot Kirinite Trapper Pocket Knife to the test in my daily life. The knife boasts mirror-polished Tru-Sharp surgical stainless steel blades that provide a reliable and long-lasting edge, perfect for a variety of tasks. The smooth Kirinite handles, with their striking red, white, and blue design, lend both style and substance to this compact yet versatile piece.
During my time with the knife, I was particularly impressed by its metal oval-shaped shield inlay which bears the prestigious Case logo, adding a touch of prestige to its already impressive design. As it is a product "made in the USA", I feel confident in its durability and craftsmanship.
However, just like any other product, it's not without its drawbacks. My only concern is the price point, which may seem a touch steep for some users. Despite this, I would still highly recommend the Patriot Kirinite Trapper Pocket Knife for those who seek quality, style, and versatility in a reliable blade.

The Case 17916 Hunter Knife, sporting a unique Buffalo Horn Handle, was my go-to companion during recent hunting trips. Its handcrafted design in the U. S. A. adds a touch of pride and authenticity. The Tru-Sharp Surgical Stainless Steel blade held an edge like a dream and offered exceptional strength and resistance to corrosion.
However, what stood out the most was the knife's compatibility with the leather belt sheath. It provided an easy carrying solution for my daily life. The only downside was the limited color options for the belt sheath, which might not suit everyone's personal style.
Overall, this fixed blade knife is a reliable and durable companion for hunting and outdoor adventures, and the buffalo horn handle adds a unique touch to its design.

2024.05.19 13:20 TollerThrowaway 2 weeks later, I still feel no bond, and I feel like I'm suddenly losing progress

I have a now 11 week old Toller that I picked up 2 weeks ago, and since I picked him up I still haven't felt any real bond or any spark of joy I always expected when I finally got my first puppy. I knew a puppy would be a ton of work, did all my research for years, got books and the minute I had the puppy I still felt completely unprepared. However by puppy standards he has been a gem and a very fast learner, at least up until 2 days ago.
After the first grueling nights, he went from I hating the crate with a passion to getting in on his own, not even crying at night and going straight to bed at bed time. He went from having tons of accidents inside, to learning how to go to the door for poops (pees I still take him out frequently to avoid too many inside accidents). We went from going out every 2 hours at night to just once a night, no accidents in the crate. Teething has been a problem but I got him to chew almost exclusively on his toys, though he still goes for furniture fabric and my toes and fingers. During the day I started being able to leave him in his crate for 45 minutes to an hour and leave the room, and he'd sleep.
In about a week and a half he made so much progress, but suddenly a couple nights ago it's like he hit reset and then some, almost like a new different puppy. He's crying in his crate, he's crying when we leave the house to go potty or even for a very short walk on the leash. He now cries even when I turn the corner and close the door to go to the bathroom.
With food and toys he's started getting suddenly possessive, even though I've been with him every day, doing hand feeding in the beginning and he wanted to play with toys with me or have me hold his chew ring.
He's gone on a teething storm, his teething bites on me have been strong enough to make me blees a few times even though I try to curb that behavior with large "ows!" or putting toys in his mouth when trying to chew on me.
Honestly I still haven't gotten a good night sleep in weeks which I know effects my feelings towards my pup, and honestly I feel even worse considering that up until this weekend he was a relatively chill puppy (as puppies go at least) and I still felt overwhelmed and no bond. However, this weekend just became a sudden rerun of the first couple nights as well as some new issues on top and I'm not sure why this happened and how to cope. I've already had him on a schedule the past week too, making sure he gets his sleep at the same time, I do my work at the same times and he's in his crate at the same times, but the enforced naps don't seem to help once he wakes back up. I am hoping next Saturday when his first puppy class starts that will help.

2024.05.19 13:19 Student-Leader Initiative Spotlight: Concerns about Youth Behaviour and Relationships

As I looked around my school and community, I became increasingly concerned about the behavior of our youth. The trends I observed were troubling: students prioritizing relationships over personal development and mimicking negative stereotypes from the past. This realization led me to create an initiative focused on addressing these issues head-on, aiming to foster a healthier, more supportive environment for our students.
Purpose and Vision
The initiative, "Concerns about Youth Behaviour and Relationships," has several key objectives:
  1. Empowering Students: We aim to empower students by providing them with valuable resources and insights. By focusing on academic excellence, wellness, leadership skills, and entrepreneurial ventures, we help students navigate their educational and personal development journeys.
  2. Education and Skill Development: Through a variety of content, including articles, tutorials, and guides, we educate students on crucial topics such as academic success, personal growth, leadership, finance, business, and game development. Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in all areas of life.
  3. Community Building: Engagement is at the heart of our initiative. By leveraging social media, newsletters, events, and school community collaborations, we aim to build a supportive and inclusive community. This environment encourages students to connect, share ideas, and support each other's growth and development.
  4. Partnership and Sponsorship: To expand our impact, we seek to establish partnerships and secure sponsorships. These collaborations provide opportunities for businesses and organizations to align with our mission and contribute to the betterment of our community.
The Impact of the Initiative
Imagine a school where students understand the importance of balancing relationships with personal development. Where open discussions about healthy relationships, respect, and personal boundaries are the norm. Our initiative aims to create this environment by encouraging open dialogues, offering workshops on communication skills, and providing mentorship programs. By promoting positive role models and celebrating respectful behavior, we can shift the culture towards one that values personal growth and mutual respect.
Why This Initiative Matters
The idea for this initiative came from observing the behavior of children in my school and community. It was clear that many teenagers were prioritizing relationships in ways that hindered their personal development. Without guidance, these behaviors could lead to long-term negative consequences. Therefore, it became essential to provide students with the tools and support they need to navigate these crucial aspects of their lives effectively.
A Short Story of Potential Impact
Consider the story of Alex, a high school sophomore struggling to balance his relationship with his studies. Without guidance, he found himself falling behind academically and feeling overwhelmed. Through our initiative, Alex attended a workshop on communication skills and participated in a mentorship program. He learned to set personal boundaries and prioritize his personal development. As a result, his academic performance improved, and he felt more confident in managing his relationship healthily.
The Consequences of Inaction
Without initiatives like ours, many students like Alex might continue to struggle. They could fall into patterns of behavior that mimic negative stereotypes, prioritizing relationships at the expense of their personal and academic growth. This could lead to a cycle of underachievement and missed opportunities, ultimately affecting their futures and the broader community.
Call to Action
Our initiative is more than just a project; it’s a call to action. By engaging the school community, securing sponsorships, and creating a consistent content strategy, we can make a tangible difference. Together, we can empower our students, foster a supportive community, and pave the way for a brighter future.
In conclusion, "Concerns about Youth Behaviour and Relationships" is a proactive response to the challenges facing our youth. It’s about creating an environment where students can thrive academically, personally, and socially. By addressing these issues now, we can ensure that our children are better equipped for the future, leading to a healthier, more prosperous community for all.
