Cyber threats are evolving at an unprecedented pace, and businesses must find cybersecurity solutions that can keep the rhythm, increase their cyber resilience, and ensure business continuity. One solution is using Artificial intelligence (AI) to improve security systems. Machine learning (ML) can also be crucial in bolstering cybersecurity defenses.
By leveraging advanced algorithms and statistical models, ML enables security systems to continuously analyze vast amounts of data, identify patterns, and detect anomalies indicative of potential security breaches.
This proactive approach to cybersecurity empowers organizations to stay ahead of emerging threats, mitigate risks, and safeguard sensitive information and assets from malicious actors.

What is machine learning

Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that teaches computers to learn from data and improve their performance over time without being explicitly programmed for specific tasks.
It enables systems to automatically identify patterns, classify information, make predictions, and uncover insights from data without human intervention.
There are several types of ML approaches, each with its own characteristics and applications.
Supervised learning
In supervised learning, the algorithm is trained on a labeled dataset, where each input is associated with a corresponding output.
The goal is to learn a mapping function from input to output, enabling the algorithm to make predictions or classify new data accurately.
Unsupervised learning
Unsupervised learning involves training the algorithm on an unlabeled dataset, where the objective is to identify patterns or structures within the data without explicit guidance.
The algorithm learns to group similar data points or identify anomalies in the dataset.
Semi-supervised learning
Semi-supervised learning combines elements of supervised and unsupervised learning. It leverages a small amount of labeled data along with a larger pool of unlabeled data to improve model performance.
This approach is useful when labeling data is expensive or time-consuming, allowing the algorithm to generalize better from limited labeled examples.

How machine learning is used in cyber security

Machine learning is crucial in enhancing cybersecurity by enabling organizations to detect and respond to threats more effectively and efficiently.
Examples of ML techniques used for cybersecurity include:
  • Supervised learning algorithms such as support vector machines (SVMs) and neural networks for threat detection
  • Unsupervised learning algorithms like clustering and principal component analysis (PCA) for anomaly detection
  • Hybrid approaches, combining multiple machine learning techniques, are often employed to enhance the accuracy and robustness of cybersecurity systems in detecting and mitigating evolving threats.
Threat detection
Machine learning can identify and mitigate threats from external sources, such as malicious actors attempting to infiltrate an organization’s network or systems.
Techniques like supervised learning can analyze network traffic patterns and classify them as normal or suspicious based on known threat signatures. Additionally, unsupervised learning algorithms can detect anomalies in network behavior that may indicate a potential breach.
Machine learning is equally important in detecting insider threats posed by employees or authorized users with malicious intent. By monitoring user behavior and analyzing access patterns, the algorithms can identify abnormal activities such as unauthorized access attempts, data exfiltration, or unusual usage patterns that may indicate insider threats.
Techniques like user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) leverage machine learning to establish baseline behavior profiles and identify deviations that may signal insider threats.
Anomaly detection
Anomaly detection is another important task that machine learning can perform for cybersecurity improvement. Supervised learning algorithms can be trained on historical data to recognize normal behavior and flag any deviations as anomalies.
Unsupervised learning techniques, such as clustering and principal component analysis (PCA), can also identify anomalies by detecting data points that do not conform to expected patterns.
Malware protection
ML-based malware and ransomware protection solutions offer real-time threat detection and response capabilities, allowing organizations to defend against evolving cyber threats proactively.
Supervised learning algorithms can be trained on labeled datasets containing examples of both benign and malicious files to develop models capable of classifying unknown files based on their attributes and behavior.
Unsupervised learning techniques can identify previously unseen malware variants by analyzing behavioral patterns and identifying anomalies indicative of malicious activity.
Network security
Machine learning-powered network security solutions provide organizations with enhanced visibility into their network traffic and enable proactive threat detection and response capabilities to safeguard against cyber threats.
Unsupervised learning techniques, such as clustering and anomaly detection, can identify unusual network behavior indicative of potential security threats, including DDoS attacks, malware infections, and unauthorized access attempts.
Endpoint security
By continuously learning from new threat data and evolving attack techniques, ML-powered endpoint security solutions provide organizations with proactive threat detection and response capabilities to defend against a wide range of cyber threats.
Supervised learning algorithms can analyze file attributes and behavior patterns to detect and block known malware variants in real-time. Its behavioral analysis techniques can identify suspicious activities at the endpoint level, such as unauthorized access attempts, file modifications, and system resource usage anomalies.

Techniques and algorithms used in ML for cybersecurity

To apply ML in cybersecurity, it’s indispensable to understand its multiple types, applications, and algorithms. This helps users choose the best approach for their cybersecurity and data loss prevention plan.
Here are three ML algorithms that can improve your system’s security:
Decision trees
Decision trees are hierarchical structures that recursively split data into smaller subsets based on the most significant attributes.
In cybersecurity, decision trees are used for intrusion detection, malware classification, and risk assessment tasks. They offer transparency and interpretability, making them suitable for generating rules to detect security threats.
Neural networks
Neural networks are computational models inspired by the human brain’s structure and function.
For cybersecurity purposes, neural networks are employed in tasks such as malware detection, network intrusion detection, and anomaly detection. Deep learning architectures, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs), are particularly effective in processing complex data structures like images and sequences.
Support Vector Machines (SVM)
SVM is a supervised learning algorithm that separates data points by finding the hyperplane that maximally separates different classes in the feature space.
It’s possible to apply SVM in cybersecurity for tasks such as malware detection, intrusion detection, and spam filtering.

What are the benefits of machine learning in cybersecurity

Machine learning (ML) emerges as a powerful ally, offering a range of benefits that significantly enhance cybersecurity defenses. However, it’s important to remember that ML effectiveness heavily relies on the quality of training data and the expertise of security teams in interpreting its results.
Automation
Repetitive tasks like log analysis, anomaly detection, and incident response can drain valuable security resources. ML automates these processes, freeing up analysts to focus on complex threats and strategic planning.
Rapid threat detection
ML algorithms can analyze massive amounts of data in real time, identifying subtle anomalies and suspicious patterns that might escape human attention. This enables faster detection and response to emerging threats, minimizing potential damage.
Minimizing human errors
Manual security processes are prone to human fatigue, distraction, and errors in judgment. ML algorithms, however, are objective and consistent, eliminating these human vulnerabilities and ensuring accurate threat detection.
Scalability
As your network and data volume grow, traditional security solutions might become overwhelmed. ML scales effortlessly, efficiently handling large datasets and complex environments, ensuring consistent protection even for expanding organizations.
Cost-effectiveness
While initial setup might involve some investment, the long-term benefits of reduced downtime, minimized breaches, and improved efficiency translate to significant cost savings for organizations.

Why machine learning in cybersecurity is still limited

While machine learning offers immense potential in cybersecurity, its implementation presents several challenges and limitations that require careful consideration.
Understanding these limitations is crucial for ensuring the effective and responsible use of ML in your security strategy.
Interpretability and explainability
The complex nature of ML algorithms can make it difficult to understand how they arrive at decisions. This lack of transparency can hinder trust and make it challenging to explain and justify security decisions.
Limited scope
ML excels at detecting known threats based on historical data. However, it can struggle to identify novel or zero-day attacks that deviate from established patterns. This necessitates a layered security approach combining ML with other detection methods.
Privacy and ethical concerns
The use of personal data for training ML models raises privacy concerns. Additionally, biases in data can lead to discriminatory outcomes, requiring careful ethical considerations and responsible data governance practices.
Resource requirements
Implementing and maintaining ML solutions can require significant computational resources and skilled personnel, which can be a barrier for smaller organizations.

2024.05.06 15:08 Winston_Oreceal What would you change

So since I've been on this sub, I've seen a lot of people express various reasons for disliking the shows gradual decline. At the very least, I've not seen anyone place S8 near the top of a list, even if some feel it's not as bad as other's have stated.
This got me thinking though. Most everyone generally agrees that S5/S6 is where the writing really started to feel off, or not at the same lvl as S1-S4.
So my question is, if you could personally rewrite or reshape Dexter from the start of S5 to S8, what would you change?
Personally, I'd refocus Dexter's character goals entirely and rework certain antagonist. I won't go into side characters because I'd basically be writing a book if I accounted for every single character lol
In S5, I'd remove Harry for a much more significant amount of time. Because to me, Dexter's reactions to Rita's death for those first two episodes felt super raw and emotional and showcased a side of Dex that hadn't really been in the spotlight before and it ended too abruptly imo. I'd have Dex actually go through a semi- villain arc. Have him become furious with the world (perhaps throw Brian in instead wasting his intrigue in a single S6 episode). I'd have Dexter's pursuit of Jordan Chase be filled with Vengeance and bloodlust, giving Dex more selfish incentives rather than being 100% for Lumin. I'd also keep him and Lumin platonic with maybe a few what if moments spread throughout. S5 would see Dex genuinely losing control (which I think makes the most sense coming off of S4). Except I'd also have the consequences be enough to slowly pull him back and then the breaking point would be Lumin's departure at the end of S5. This is where Harry finally returns. Then at Harrison's birthday, Dexter starts to see how his actions could effect his son.
S6: Okay so from what I gather, S6 is kind of the black sheep that gets lopped in with S8. So the obvious change is removing Deb's nonsense sudden romantic feelings for Dex. I would also simplify Travis and remove the very half assed D.I.D aspect of his character and instead just double down on true religious indoctrination. I'd also pull back on the extravagant tableau's because I don't buy for one second that Travis managed to string together these incredibly elaborate kills without getting caught on a full college campus. I'd also make Travis the Evangelical professor. So, for Dex's personal character growth arc, I'd have S6 double down like crazy with Dex commiting himself to being a better father. I understand that it might be boring from an entertainment standpoint in a show about murders, but I also think Dex of all people would have every reason to fully commit to his son. I'd also have Brother Sam become much more present and I'd also have Harry actually open up about how not to be a shit parent instead of his generic ' it be hard daddin, son ngl '. I'd also have Dex actually explore religion beyond surface arguments from either side, and have that be a potential foil for his dark passenger. (I really hate how S6 treated the atheist v religion debate on both sides. It was pretty generic imo.) Dex struggles but ultimately manages to find a balance for himself and his DP through Brother Sam and Harry and also dealing with Travis. S6 still ends as cannon aside from the romantic nonsense.
S7: I've already made a comment explaining how I'd reshape Hannah. So here, I'll go about it as if she never existed. I actually think S7 had more than enough going on that there's not many changes that need to be made without Hannah. Really, all I'd do is add more time to flesh out the existing arcs with all characters. More Isaak. More Deb and Dexter working through their issues. More Maria. And honestly, I think I might add more Mathews. I think he could've been a lot more involved and fleshed out considering his relationship to Harry. And so, I'd play with that and explore his character. I might even have him know that Dex is the BhB and somewhat sabatage Maria on Dexter's behalf. But yeah, S7 just without Hannah.
S8: boy. Oh boy. First things first. No Hannah obviously. But. Also. No Vogel or dipshit Oliver. They're both erased.
This being the final season, I'd go absolutely all in on Dexter's character growth with Deb. And instead of Oliver and his nonsense, I'd actually have Angel legitimately start investigating Dexter. In this version, the death of Maria actually effects Angel enough to make him start questioning everything. And so that would be Dexter's adversary of the season instead of Oliver. It'd be similar to S2 but not exactly a retread. This doesn't involve the FBI. But instead Angel slowly starts to steadily flip everyone against Dex during his quiet investigation, and it becomes a genuine team effort. Eventually headed by Musuka, Quinn, and Angel. But here's the kicker to even the playing field. Matthew's involvement. In this version he knows what happened to Maria. And now, he's influencing the department on his end. But, I'd also replace Vogel with him. Basically, Matthew's is the one who helps Dex pull Deb from the dark. It just fits better imo. He's been around longer, has a much more personal relationship to the pair, and actually knew Harry.
So to keep things interesting, and still have the kills, I'd keep Zach and double down on him. I'd have both Deb and Dex come to the same conclusion of a new start somewhere else, while still keeping Dex committed to Harrison. This time, Zach would also help the investigation against Dex via infiltrating Miami metro underneath the guise of an understudy for Masuka. So now we have all the pieces to keep the kills, keep the tension, and keep the character growth from pretty much every angle.
Throughout the cat and mouse game, Dex finally finally learns to let go of his dark passenger due to Zach's influence. It's both a passing of the touch and a self release to the shackles that Harry chained to Dex from the moment they met.
However, because Angel and everyone else are in fact competent, they manage to quietly pin Dexter. But. Because Dex and Zach and Matthew's are also actually competent, Deb is never found out for her involvement. (Basically, I'd find a way that Dex realizes he is going down, but he makes sure Deb doesn't.).
In the final episodes, Dexter knows what's coming. But, finally being free from the dark passenger, he gives in. He knows Harrison will always be taken care of with Deb. And he knows Zach will always adhear to the code and use it for good (as far as killing for the good others can go).
Dexter manages to get Deb, Harrison and Zach out of Miami the night before everything would go down. This episode would be the super emotional cutting of the strings. (Sidenote. Deb also finally learns to base her self worth off of herself and not Dexter thanks to the help of Mathews throughout the season.).
The next day, Angel personally arrests Dexter Morgan. Now, we get the actual ending that the original show runner had wanted. Dex being escorted to the electric chair, facing his past victims. Dexter dies. And Deb finds a new life with Harrison and Zach.
New Blood: Zach is now the main protagonist. His dark passenger is now Dexter. Deb and Zach and Harrison end up in iron lake new York. This time, it's Zach vs Mr. Krabs (lol I cannot for the life of me remember his characters name).
And throughout all of this, Zach and Deb are now trying to guide Harrison through life. In this version, I don't believe Zach or Deb would want Harrison to inherit the code. And so this time, it's more character focused with Harrison learning the truth about Trinity and his father and how the isolation somewhat drives him towards Mr. Krabs like in cannon. I'd also keep some of his darkness like in cannon i.e stabbing the kid in school ect.
However, the difference here is that Zach and Deb together are much much better equipt to keep anything from going too far.
I think I would have Harrison be more of a standby (caught in the crossfire) while Zach and Mr. Krabs go at each other. All the while, Deb is doing her absolute best to navigate iron lake and it's various characters.
In this version, Zach wins without getting caught like Dex. However, the major difference is that Zach is able to get through to Harrison and get him to understand the code through a different lens than Dex. Zach would be more suited to showcase the cons of the code and the danger and even the addiction it can bring. Something that Dex could never explain in cannon. Zach would show the death of Mr. Krabs to Harrison like the cannon, but he doesn't do it to try and hype how great being a killer is. This time, Harrison is brought to the light through genuine means. Deb is also finally able to let go of Dex completely (her character arc mirroring Dex's guilt in cannon).
I would end the season with a time skip and have Harrison enroll in police academy after the events of New Blood. His goal is to follow the steps of aunt Deb but with the understanding of killers and how they function due to Zach's influence. Harrison now has his own personal code , and the code is that nothing is black and white.
Alrighty. Ik this post was ungodly long. So I thank u so much if u read this far. Most of this was off the top of my head and ik it's not perfect it all. I definitely overlooked a few things lol
So yeah, what would u change? What's ur rewrite of Dexter?

2024.05.06 02:00 0dy5 Can't make my mind on dreads/anti-tank for my list

I'm working on my list for a 1k league that will be stuffed with people running multiple dreads, tanks and the like, so I'm set on using ~300 pts of anti-tank. I'll run marines with the firestorm detachment. Given the models and bits I have around, I can run any of the following combinations:
I have crunched all of these models vs standard dreads profiles and they kiiinda seem equivalent (with knights slightly on the lower end since they don't benefit from oath/detachment/strats). From my analysis the differences are minimal so I can't decide what to run.
Please keep in mind that the rest of the army is infantry (infernus, jump packs, infiltrators, termis) and I'm limited to the options I mentioned earlier. Can't buy a gladiator or other stuff at the moment.

2024.05.06 00:34 Trolling4Togo I am seeking help with a story I am writing, its a bit of a long post, so i apologize.

The premises is that Kushina is kidnapped midway through her pregnancy by a group of Rogue Ninja wanting revenge on Minato. These Ninja have no clue she is pregnant or a jinchuriki. They manage to infiltrate konoha and catch kushina off guard. They drug and kidnap her, and then they dissappear without a trace.
Several months passed before konoha found her due to the release of the kyuubi during childbirth. However, by the time konoha reaches her, she is found to be dead, along with the entirety of the group that took her. The kyuubi is long gone. Medics conclude that she had, in fact, given birth prior to her death. The seal holding the kyuubi broke some time during the birthing process. The baby was nowhere to be found. They didn't know if the baby had even survived. No trace of the kyuubi or the baby could be found. They searched for hours, days, weeks, and months.
Important note: Obito is involved. He takes kyuubi, made easy by the fact he doesn't have to deal with Minato, but he does not take Naruto. The kidnappers that took kushina were going to kill her, but realized she was a jinchuriki after the fact, and planned to sell her to the highest bidding village other than konoha. Her pregnancy put a holt on their plans. Naruto is born prematurely under kushinas stress. Her chakra was heavily suppressed to keep her from escaping, this leaves her very weak. The seal breaks, and the kyuubi escapes on his own. Obito just beats Konoha to the scene and is able to take the kyuubi.
One mistake. One oversight. Konoha lost its jinchuriki. Minato lost his wife Kushina lost her life And they both lost their son.
Faith in Minato plummeted, especially once news of the lost kyuubi reached the other villages. Tensions grew. Minato dealing with the loss of his wife, his child, and the faith of the village became little more than a figurehead. His anger against kumo, as well as the actions he takes in searching for information, almost leads to war. Danzo, using the tragedy to his advantage, was able to orchestrate the ultimatetake over. Danzon single handedly took control, while Minato was occupied searching for any news on the kyuubi and his child. Danzo managed to save the village from war. Konoha, in its fragile state, hailed him a hero, and Root came out of the woodwork to set up the ultimate defense of the village. Minato fought hard against it, but he was otherwise preoccupied and the epitome of a truly broken man. He would do what he could for the village, but the village no longer believed in him. The lack of trust in him left him in a very difficult position, Minato would remain Hokage and fight for the village as best as he could, but Danzo and the council held most of the power.
This is where I need some help. What happened to Naruto? I have a vague plan. Naruto will be similar to cannon Naruto. However, there will be major changes due to environmental and nuture changes. Nature vs. Nurture will play a fine line here.
This Naruto will never have experienced random hatred for reasons unknown to him. This Naruto will not grow up shunned and called monster. However, like cannon, he will still grow up without knowing love. This Naruto will also grow up without a village, or a permanent home, or any form of safety.
He is a lot more mature and, as such, smarter because he HAS to be. Not like he magically was born a book worm, he just had to grow up really fast in a different way than cannon Naruto. It's kind of similar to Haku. However, he will still share similar characteristics to the Naruto we know and love, but he will have a more realistic viewpoint. He won't shy away from things like death because this Naruto grew up seeing, hearing, and experiencing all the worst things life has to offer. He has seen murder, death, destruction, war, poverty, torture, rape. You name it, He hasn't been shielded at all. He doesn't know safety. His ultimate goal is to be the strongest ninja in the world so he can rid the world of evil and bring about peace.
I am struggling with how to get him from point A to point B. That's where i need help. I am all about the details. Obviously, infants don't just get up and walk away. They don't just survive by themselves. Someone had to intervene and not out of any kind of care. My plan is for Naruto to grow up, but not under the care of any one person. I need to hash out the details, and i am coming up with blocks.
Following the openings we will have a 13 year old Team 10 and Asuma have a run in with Naruto on their first C rank mission.(escorting a girl home to her family from visiting her aunt in konoha). This is Naruto's first encounter with Leaf Shinobi. No one puts 2 and 2 together. The story will follow Narutos' life and his long trip home to where he belongs.

2024.05.05 18:02 thhhorne [GM4A] [DND 5E] [18+] [Online] Seeking 1x1 Dark Fantasy Longterm, Tangled Inspired Sheltered Mage x Fallen War Hero

Hiiiiii, I’m hoping to find a longterm RP partner for a dark, high DND style fantasy plot, vaguely mimicking Tangled, with the option to double in a reversed plot for your pairing, or a new one entirely. I am looking for a FXM Jaskie Geralt and Rapunzel/Flynn dynamic.
Tropes I’m hoping to hit are…
– grumpy repressed trauma x soft who’s secretly also as fucked up and uses being happy to avoid emotions
– mage/sorcerer x paladin/fighter
– enemies to lovers / forced proximity / more in common than previously imagined
– classic fantasy-style racism and sexism (dragons vs elves vs humans)
– cross-country travel and adventure, perhaps a tug-of-war end-destination argument, with some give either way occasionally
– military personnel (hopefully a semi-disgraced folk hero, but a deserter or bounty hunter works well) / sheltered shrine keeper mage-templar
– fated mates & marks
– pining slowburn, “going against every taboo they’ve been taught” and will they won’t they, maybe some blurry lines
– long-term cultural, social and racial miscommunication / misunderstandings and knowledge gaps being bridged by both sides
– raid bride / arranged marriage / marriage of convenience
– obligatory at least once “there is only one bed + nightmare wake up, soothed back to sleep”
I am hoping to make character sheets using 5E in the loosest terms, extremely homebrew character creation mish-mashing class features and such, that will serve as more baseline for our abilities than actual rules. The stats will also serve as a way to give more randomization of what may happen, with a little wriggle room should we not like the outcome or come up with something better. I can discuss my ideas for this in more detail if you’re interested.
This Might Suit:
A forever DM, not ready to throw an entire party into a full campaign but still really want to show it off to *someone* to appreciate – this might really suit.
A player (especially one who may want to DM), who prefers RP and exploration, can’t make discord calls, and is sick of overbearing min-maxer players commandeering the plot.
A long-term online RP’er who hasn’t played D&D yet, and would like to. Maybe you tried but found it hard to learn in a call environment, or at a large table. I’ve played for 8 years and have taught multiple beginners.
I have a homebrew world we can use as a backdrop, and if you have one of your own, with similar themes, we can blend them or switch between with a pairing in each. We can double or dual RP, taking the rein as the narrative bricklayer for one, and a backseat in the other.
I have a plot in mind for my female character paired with yours, which we can easily flip gender-wise and tweak for your pairing, or completely do a new one for yours! I can play a male character if you’d like, but prefer a woman. I’d prefer we run two FXM relationships but I can do any gender romance mix if it’s really desirable. If we do a same-sex romance, my smut may be lacking, but am willing to write it and learn.
I am 20 looking for someone 18 to 25, and am uncomfortable with both higher and lower than described, thanks! Because I do enjoy contextually appropriate erotic scenes and moments, this has the potential to end up with some smut elements and the occasional lewd emotional struggle or thoughts of a character.
My timezone is AEST. I don’t mind messaging people several hours apart from me, and keep waking hours that seem to suit most folk from CST, but you might find that doesn’t work for you! I’m only looking to RP via Discord.
I am what the kids call “chronically online” and glued to my phone, so replies will atleast be a good few a day, minimum few minutes between or a few hours (6~) apart, and if I catch you at a good time for us both, we can really get a rapidfire set going.
I write at a level I believe is called lit or semi-lit, and if we click and connect to each other’s bluetooth, novella-style is even in the cards. 1-5 paragraphs is my general preference, and I would expect the same, although I understand that some simple actions and feelings don’t require you to write that much, and some things are so specific they *do* require multiple posts.
I love aesthetics and visuals – a picture tells a thousand words, so if you like to send those, all the better, as so do I. Not to say my description is lazy, but I find it bridges a gap in explanation and visualization – supplement not replacement.
As I write, I get more excited, causing more grammatical errors than normal, but I am fluent in english and do my best to be correct and punctual. For POV, I fluctuate between first and third, but can *attempt* to stick to one if you *want*, but it’s a really hard habit to lose – I have no preference on which one you stick to.
Be ready for me to become obsessed with your character(s), and gush about them. You can be certain I’ll send you things I think might suit them on Pintrest, Tiktoks that apply to them and songs for their Spotify playlist.
Talking OOC is just as important to me as the RP, and I would hope it is for you too.
Setting Inspirations include.....
Media – Game of Thrones & House of the Dragon
Games – The Witcher, Assassin’s Creed, Dragon Age, Skyrim, Genshin, Outward
Books – LOTR, Six of Crows, ACOTAR
Below is a small blurb about Belgrieve, and the general plot I’d like to take with her and your male character.
= =
Belgrieve Omenyra
Belgrieve Omenyra, not her true name but one she identifies with, was born to the elvish king Silvio Tellura and queen Vyneon Tellura of Tresluna, but soon after birth, was taken by an elvish septa / priestess and raised in a far away hidden temple. Her mother had a difficult birth and was given an experimental magical tonic, as well as being blessed by elvish god Reielle in the form of a unicorn. She was born a Brightmaid, a elf with equine – alicorn – features and a horse form she could take at will. The court priestess believed this would make her the most magically adept child of the century, and the ultimate weapon against the empire. Stolen under the guise of “being for the greater elvish good in the long run”, she remained missing to her family, instead brought up a shrine servant beingh taught magic under the guise of religion and a generouslly adopted orphan.
She at first proved a prodigy, incredibly smart and adept, but an accident with a too handsy male septon turned him to stone, and her magic began to twist in chaotic and dangerous ways. Able to manipulate blood, and lightning, and the weather, she proved too unruly and blessed for the septa’s to handle. They bound her magic inside her, making her powerless and useless – this also turned her into a blightmaid. They sealed most of her form away. Unable to give her back to the king and queen, with nothing to atleast show for their strife, they had no choice but to keep Bel around. They managed to wipe most of her memories, and kept her as a shrine keeper. But although the magic was trapped, it came out in other ways – it gave her an eerie, disturbing aura that made people uncomfortable around her. A series of terrible incidents, misfortune and bad luck began to follow Bel around as she grew up, which isolated her from her peers more than she already was, in the small and small community.
A century or so, when she was old enough to fend for herself and manage most temple duties, her peers packed up and left under the pretense of leaving her to care for it in their absence. They were supposed to come back, but couldn’t give her a concrete time frame for when this might be. They left with her a few human caretakers, who would eventually grow old while taking care of her that last bit. These caretakers, aged and died, leaving her entirely and truely alone. Belgrieve was diligent and dedicated to her temple duties, but was also obsessed with the world below.
She read everything the temple contained and stored, yearning and fantasising about travelling the world once her peers came back from fighting the war with the empire. She was also enchanted with the many moon-lantern flowers that would float on the winds to her on her birthday, and wished to find the source of them. As time went on, Bel’s seal began to weaken and one day broke entirely, allowing her to turn into her horse form. This freaked her out, and made her quite afraid of herself and magic. She researched heavily in the library of the sept for answers, and come up mostly empty. She believes this is why people didn’t like her, and why her magic is hectic. She calles herself a bad luck charm, or an omen of evil, and understands she was kept here under divine protection for her own and other’s safety.
She never dared leave, only getting to the bottom steps and looking out at the forest surrounding the mountain. She remained on task, keeping the shrines clean and the temple tidy, but would often get distracted in her hobbies. She took up learning more magic, from books left behind by her less than dutiful and rule abiding peers, and for that she was thankful. Her learning was not always straight forward, or safe, often causing small disasters and accidents.
She continued this, getting into a routine, but growing ever more worried and suspicious that her peers had gotten into trouble and she should leave – they could need help. But she remained faithful to her promise, and stayed. Occasionally, a adventurer would stumble up, and seek refuge. She would host them and badger them for news of the empire, and if they knew her peers. Rarely did they have the answers she wanted to hear, but she listened anyway. They often saw her form, a creature that is hunted to extinction in many places, and this would prompt them to attempt to murder or capture her and end up with these adventurers perishing at her hand, usually unintentionally.
Sometimes, thieves would try their best to infiltrate the temple and find themselves earning a one way ticket off the mountainside with a magical boot to the arsecheeks. But not before she took some of their things, normally rations or information such as books and magical supplies.

General Plot
You are from a noble house that was once the hand to the empire, but recent misfortune has befallen your and your kin. It places you, a very loyal, desperate imperial who came from nothing, and now have everything to lose (and also someone who had hopes of making the emperor’s main guard, the Prime Daeturion) in the sights of the court and authorites. Your loyalty has been called into question. You managed to plead and claim your devotion is still true, and have been given a lenient second chance. The chance to bring honour back to your house, and gain the emperors eye and all the money you could ever want in this life if you agree to a task.
You agree, eagerly, desperate to prove yourself. You are to bring back to the citadel a religious, social or cultural artifact or a person of great importance from the elvish realms, as a raid bride, to be reduced to being a surrogate broodmare for more empire-born murderers. A trophy, or trophy bride, once boiled down to its roots.
Although you stand for the empire and all it’s values, the raid brides are something that even seems to you as needless cruelty. You opt for the artifact, also not ready to settle down, and not fond of having heirs perhaps stemming from your own family trauma and love for your own raid bride mother. You are given time to research and come across tales of an important scroll in distant elvish lands. This scroll, when translated, and arranged correctly, resembles an ancient song that calls elves together, like a musical sleeper agent. The use of such a thing in empire hands is unfathomably great. You look no further and set out for this item.
Lugging yourself across the lands, following threads of information back to it’s source, you locate the last known location of the scroll, on the edge of nearly abandoned elvish lands, for newer more resource rich areas. You travel to this dilapidated temple, after a treacherous journey up it’s path, clearly unused for centuries – which speaks well to your chances of having an easy search in an empty temple, but bad for the likelihood of the scroll remaining here. But perhaps a clue will remain, and you are too tired to head back down the stairs, so you continue up.
You make it to the top, and begin your search, still on guard. You run into many set up traps, home alone style, and things that imply someone lives here or did, recently. Classic goldilocks style, you help yourself to their things, and keep inspecting – only to open the same cupboard this temple’s last remaining shrine maiden was hiding in, with a weapon in hand.
She threatens you and demands you answer her what you are doing here, and asks if you are you from her clergy, come to tell her the war is over and they are coming back. You realise, from what you’ve gleamed around the buildings, and the trek up – elvish messages warning people to turn back, talking of a monster inside – she was left to “guard” the temple alone, years ago, by her people, under the pretense they were coming back. Presumably for some dark curse upon her, or monstrous entity within her.
You lie, taking advantage of this sheltered woman’s naivety, and claim you were sent by her people, with news of the elves' cooperation under empire rule. You have been sent to retrieve the scroll and would like to know where it is, so you may take it home. Having not seen another living soul for so long, never any one of your kind – only read about you in her books – she is both all-too-trusting and suspicious, but allows you to see it.
However, when you go to take it, she refuses to let it go alone. You must take her with you. You argue, and find out that she has never once left the temple save for when she was born and sent here. This has made her extremely desperate to experience the real world, and thus will not let the scroll leave without her. You begrudgingly agree to take her on, although entirely disgusted by her being, hoping to take it from her in her sleep, or overpower her, although you are wary of trying such a thing, given how legendary the training of her kind was touted to be before they stopped appearing on battlefields.
You leave, and take rest not far from the temple, when you are ambushed in the now almost neutral territory, no longer well patrolled by elvish forces in its abandonment. You put up a fight, but make the rare mistake and are subdued, as well as Bel. While they rifle in your things, they tear up your citizenship documents, take your weapons, destroy the items used to contact your empire, and unknowingly tear up and destroy the all-important information you came seeking from Belgrieve’s temple.
Belgrieve is forced to use old and disturbing magics to free yourselves and scare the attackers, who flee with most of the things you had. You both reel from the attack, and you are now distraught about your current predicament, and mildly terrified of your companion for her magic. The scroll is ruined, and try as you do to salvage it, the information is beyond mendable. Carefully, and quietly, Belgrieve offers you a olive branch and attempts to bring light to the moment, and brings up a long sleeve to show inky dark tattoos of arcane text wrap up her arm and disappear under her clothes.
Lucky for her, and eh, perhaps, frustratingly inconvenient for you - in her years of solitude, Bel accidentally destroyed the scroll, but managed to copy it and has painstakingly painted the text on her body. However, it is in her native and almost dead language, and refuses to translate it, seeing this as an opportunity to guarantee her safety and to see the world outside her home all in one neat ribbon of mild coercion.
Now a living scroll, she is the valuable ticket to your retirement, and repairing your house’s honor. No longer having the choice of artifact, but instead a raid-bride in the loosest sense, you bind yourself to her through the magical bond your kind does to captis qouya – telling yourself it’s only to keep her from wandering out of sight and getting damaged. Only until you get home and get the thread cut. You’ll have all the money you could want when you bring her back - maybe your brother or uncle can keep her. The empire wouldn’t let her go free, atleast.
Either way, you have no option but to work more cooperatively, as this turn of events has placed you in more equal standing - priceless artifact and handler rather than captive and captor. And stress is mounting, as you must return in a timely fashion – for you left your family as collateral in the capital court’s hands. The longer you take, the more chance there is you will be declared a deserter and your family punished in your name.
You and Belgrieve trek through both elvish lands, neutral and empire territory, all coming with their own vices and issues, as well as bonding moments – learning to coexist and get over the difficulties of the situation. Eventually, a tentative relationship slowly grows between you, as closeness breeds familiarity…. and your mission gets more complicated as your your beliefs waver and heart grows fond of your companion.

2024.05.04 10:19 HarmonyinSilence Infiltrators vs Incursors?

Hello! New to Kill Team. I recently got a box of Space Marine Primaries Infiltrators. I don't run Space Marines in 40k so my experience is very limited. (Necron main, but wanting to branch out)
Do I have everything to build a decent Kill Team with this box? Should I build them as Infiltrators or as Incursors? Should I just use them to practice painting and buy a better box?
I read up on them on Wahapedia and it seems the main difference is Infiltrators have Lethal 5+ and Helix Gauntlet while Incursors have No cover and Haywire mine. Which do you think is the better option?

THE OPENING TIP
Knicks' special chemistry helped them turn back the 76ers
(AP Photo/Matt Slocum)
BY JAKE FISCHER
PHILADELPHIA — Josh Hart’s magnetic palms secured the basketball one last time against the 76ers on Thursday night. A last-ditch heave from Buddy Hield clanked off the backboard like a missile seeking Hart’s possession, his 14th and final rebound as the buzzer sounded on New York’s Game 6 victory over Joel Embiid and Co. The Knicks’ scrappy swingman — the 6-foot-4 giant on the glass who’s averaged 12.3 boards per game these playoffs — then waved the crowd goodbye, his 3-pointer with 24.4 seconds to play proving to be the decisive dagger in New York’s 118-115 survival and 4-2 series win. Hart would keep that game ball close, cradled to his hip, strutting around the court through postgame pleasantries with Philadelphia players and personnel.
Jalen Brunson found Hart amid the sea of cameras and half hugs, slinking his arm around his former college teammate, his former college roommate, who helped New York draw sixth-seeded Indiana in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs — which begins Monday night at Madison Square Garden. Brunson was magical once again on this South Philly floor, where he and Hart and fellow Villanova product Donte DiVincenzo once played Big East home games. And so, after Brunson hung another 41 points and 12 assists on the Sixers — to become just the seventh player in NBA history to record 40-plus in three straight postseason games — he corralled Hart’s sinewy shoulders, and Brunson pointed up at the two navy banners hanging from the rafters denoting their pair of NCAA championships for the Wildcats from 2016 and 2018.
Brunson would continue to the sideline from there, a headset from TNT waiting to beam his interview back to Studio J in Atlanta. Through the questions from Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal, Brunson’s eyes kept locking onto those blue banners, including the third that honors Villanova’s title from 1985. All while Knicks president Leon Rose kept his emotional gaze trained onto the sensational point guard who’s uplifting this New York franchise Rose was tasked with steering back to relevance.
His black low tops positioned in front of the visitors’ bench, Rose fought back tears as he scanned across the hardwood. They’ve all frequented this stadium. Rose once walked this arena’s back corridors as Allen Iverson’s agent. Rose played high school ball just over the Ben Franklin Bridge. The gymnasium where his name's written on the school's Hall of Fame wall lies just down the road from the very JCC where, decades later, Brunson would hoist shots with friends after school. Now shaking his head, fighting back tears, Rose’s face brightened as Brunson wrapped up his responsibilities, and then Rose wrapped the 27-year-old superstar with a huge embrace. They turned before a roaring cohort of Knicks fans who infiltrated enemy territory and marched down to the locker room, toward New York’s second consecutive postseason with at least one series to their name — the franchise’s first stretch of such success since 2000.

2024.05.04 00:40 FoxyBlaster1 Quad Repulsors

Not just regular Repulsors. Executioners!
X4
I've been guilty of running cheap to buy lists. Then meta lists. Both wrong. 40k should be played with the most fun lists. And what you find fun is different to others.
But fun tends to be themed lists. All jump packs is a good example, if you like rolling 50melee dice.
All terminators..... Well, losing hard vs anyone good isn't exactly fun. Your fun list gotta make a good game of it.
I like tanks. Coz they are tanks. And dreads. Coz they are dreads. Now Knights therefore seem like a great army for me, except big Knights are so over priced, when you compare to say, an Repulsor ex.
T12, 16w, for 220pts. It's really quite good. Ex guns are also great, but it does need ironstorm detachment to push it from meh to reliable.
So when considering Knights and comparing them unfavourably to Repulsor ex I've ended up with a 4x Repulsor ex list instead.
Black templar obviously, so you can take 3 x BT versions and 1 x regular. (only a lunatic would consider (for long) x6)
Dense terrain isn't a bother, GW layouts, UKTC, they're both fine. I hate player based terrain and don't play on it.
I am however drawn to the transport options: it is an option so I feel it must be used, and as 3 of my 4 can take an eradicator unit, I kinda love that idea. A Repulsor ex carrying 3 eradicators now has its uber lazer, a tonne of melta, and shed loads of lighter guns.
As I'm black templars I think for the 4th ex I'll carry sword breathren and the emperor's champion.
Round out the list with scouts, home holding unit, probably still a callidus even going up as she did, and tech marines.
It's actually 15 units, with 4 x Repulsor ex.
Good that for marines.
I think I'd play it two columns of two tanks.
Another option is to dump a lot of the eradicators, emperor's champ, sword breathren, callidus, and slam in even more vehicles. But that might be going more min maxing, in a list designed to be what I think is fun (and still a pain in the ass for my opponent).
Eradicators out of tanks the fun core.
Anyway, list is below. Please savage and tell me what you think.

2024.05.03 22:13 Only_Educator9338 Short session ahead. Which lair to hit - Xanathar or Kolat Towers? (Alexandrian remix)

I'm in the middle of running the "meaty part" of the Alexandrian remix - the party has recovered the Stone, stormed Yellowspire, scouted out Grinda Garloth at Mistshore, and repelled a Zhentarim attack on Trollskull Manor. The next session has to be relatively short at two hours, for scheduling reasons. JB is about to pay them a visit, as Laeral Silverhand, and point them to the next lair. They're level 4, and have spent most of their time working for the Gray Hands and the "good" Zhentarim (Doom Raiders), so they're pretty tight with Vajra Safahr and Davil Starsong.
For larger RL scheduling reasons (among other things, summer is coming and free time will get spotty), I'd like them to hit one of the locations holding an Eye this session.
Story-wise, I'm thinking of pointing them at Kolat Towers (makes sense, given that Vajra Safahr et al. know about Manshoon now, and Meloon Wardragon is itching to go kill Zhentarim), or at Xanathar's hideout (which is where JB would probably rather nudge them, since he's got an "inside man", and there's a fighting tournament scheduled for that night). But both of these lairs look intimidatingly large and time-consuming, both to prep and to explore. My party is pretty cautious, so I'd expect them not to go after the big boss of either lair. And thanks to the nuttiness of the Remix, I'd expect to have to run multiple other teams in either lair - Davil + City Watch + Meloon Wardragon + Gorath & other duergar + Vajra and/or Laeral vs. Manshoon, or drow gunslingers + Davil + random gladiators vs. Xanathar.
So my question, for those of you who have run this part of the Remix: Which lair is more likely to fit into a two-hour session, Xanathar's lair or Kolat Towers? Or should I lower my goals and prep something else? (Terasse Estate, Brindul Alley house, etc.?)
Further information about the way this game's been paced: there are four players, three of whom are kids (2 of them are my kids). They tend to "look for the railroad tracks", which can be a problem. Large parts of the last two sessions dragged because they were unsure which clue to follow, or where to go next. But the action goes pretty fast - I was able to run the Gralhund Villa fight in 1 1/2 hours, and they also infiltrated the Heartbreaker and stole Captain Zord's chest containing his crystal ball in about an hour. I'm also not afraid of drastically cutting out or simplifying the lairs for time purposes. So for this session, I'm thinking of telling everyone ahead of time that we've got to play fast, and pushing them hard (through "Laeral", or Vajra or Davil), right at the beginning.

Since its introduction, the casino has become a central hub for players looking to experience the excitement of gambling, complete intricate heists, and enjoy new content through regular updates.
The Casino Heist One of the most thrilling features introduced in GTA V is the Casino Heist, which tasks players with planning and executing a robbery at the luxurious Diamond Casino. This heist is complex, requiring meticulous preparation and a choice of multiple strategies:
  1. Silent & Sneaky: Infiltrate the casino using stealth to avoid detection and keep the situation under control.
  2. The Big Con: Utilize disguises and subterfuge to walk in and out with the loot undetected.
  3. Aggressive: Take a more direct approach, fighting your way in and out with brute force.
Each approach requires gathering specific gear, hiring a crew, and choosing the right tactics, making it a dynamic challenge that can be replayed with different strategies.
Game Updates Rockstar Games continuously updates GTA Online, enhancing the casino experience with new content, vehicles, and more. Updates have included new missions, casino-themed vehicles, and additional gambling activities. These updates keep the gameplay fresh and exciting, offering new challenges and rewards for the player base.
Betting Strategies While gambling in GTA V's casino doesn't involve real money, players use in-game currency that can be earned or purchased with real money. Here are some betting strategies to help maximize your winnings:
  1. Know the Odds: Each game in the casino has different odds. Games like Blackjack and Poker allow for a degree of skill, whereas slots are purely luck-based.
  2. Manage Your Bankroll: Set a limit for how much you're willing to gamble and stick to it. This helps prevent significant in-game currency losses.
  3. Take Advantage of Bonuses: The casino periodically offers bonuses and promotions. Participating during these times can increase your chances of winning without additional risk.

[Review] Mizuki vs. Maki Itoh (TJPW • 8th Tokyo Princess Cup day 6 - Semi final • August 14, 2021)

https://preview.redd.it/i0jkqtvqs6yc1.png?width=670&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa2b713c996d0db9e9cfe9d489b26e9c3c518e57
[ Show Original review ]
Maki "Can't-wrestle" Itoh from TJ"Idol-promotion-without-an-ounce-of-athleticism"PW closes out the 8th Tokyo Princess Cup with a bang: two matches that, in my opinion, top anything many big names of the current scene and from the past have ever produced. While I could see an argument against the final, I believe the semi final, in a league of its own, is clearly out of reach.
Wrestling is a scripted art where the result is decided way before the performers step inside the squared circle. Therefore, based on how I enjoy the medium, the best matches shape their outcome between the bells. The winner doesn't win because the booking said so; the winner wins because of what happens between the ropes. That's exactly what this match is all about...
... on top of being TJPW under its quintessential form. The place emphasizes storytelling, emotion and gimmicks. If you don't connect with the characters, the product won't connect with you because it asks the viewer to invest in arcs, relationships and to root for their favorites to succeed. Sure, it's less flashy than flipz, divez and bombz. Sure, it can be labeled as poor, weak idol wrestling on average. But the house style trades style for substance, sacrifices the "what / how" for the "why". When the company is on its best behavior and hits, it usually hits differently. Mainly because unlike any other product, this one generally manufactures the emotion(s) regardless of the decision. The energy and the money are in the journey more than the destination. It's about the road to get there, not being there. The struggle lies more upstream in the set up and the intrigue around if a move can be applied, than downstream in the nearfall and if one can survive said move. Don't expect to be blown away by highspots (spoiler alert: you might still be here by the Superplex!), up-tempo offense, technical prowess... Instead, let the characters take you by the hand and enjoy the ride. It builds and builds, until suddenly, everything pays off in a huge way.
Mizuki racks up big wins during the tournament thanks to her lethal and sudden Cuty Special. She bridges on the cover so logically, Itoh goes after her back. It pays huge dividends throughout and especially in the end, bailing her out when the dreaded finisher connects. Mizuki can't maintain the pin because of the pain. Moments later, she doesn't have enough juice left to lift Itoh, who can seize her leg and buy time to recover.
A terrific layer propels this gem to the next level: aggressiveness. Not necessarily as in "mean"; more like "bold", "gutsy". Early on, Itoh uncovers a parcel of the floor and is able to powerslam Mizuki on the concrete to inflict critical damage. Despite her legit orbital eye injury, she uses her head to pound the back; for extra insight on her psyche and the weight behind the action, make sure to read this fantastic comment from u/thedrbooty. The first time provides additional depth. She crashes on the canvas and grabs her face immediately. She sells it so well that she creates genuine worry. I love when reality infiltrates fiction! Mizuki blitzes in the breach and targets the area nastily the next couple of minutes. However, she quickly moves away and never comes back to it. One can view it as a mean to fill some space; I prefer to view it as the reason why she loses ultimately: she lacks sustained aggressiveness, drive whereas Itoh keeps hurting herself using her head in order to hurt Mizuki even more. It becomes a gigantic struggle for position and a battle of will where Itoh's better approach gives her the edge. Targeting the back is a defensive game plan since it weakens Mizuki's finisher, as well as an offensive one since it plays directly into her submission finisher. When her traditional Itoh Special can't do the job, she uses a new disgusting variation to finally put away her fighting opponent. Itoh earns the success. Aggressiveness in the service of creativity. It connects all the dots to turn the affair into an ultra-cohesive package where everything counts from beginning to end.
Mizuki is reactive instead of proactive. First rope break, Itoh clocks her. Second rope break, Mizuki returns the favor. Itoh goes after the back as soon as she can and somehow paves the way. When she comes back, Mizuki goes after the back even if it hardly plays into any of her playbook. She only targets Itoh's broken face when the latter hurts it on a headbutt dive. Itoh creates her own opportunities by being active; Mizuki is one step behind from the onset, mostly passive and takes too long to flip the switch.
Yuka's cheers on the outside add a lot to the struggles down the stretch. The year before, she is the one who stands between Mizuki and the gold. On January 4, she is the one on the wrong end of a devastating submission that costs her the Princess of Princess championship, in the Korakuen Hall. She is invested because she cares for Mizuki. She knows what she is going through and feels for her. I like how that kind of details link multiple arcs together.
The outcome manages to be both uplifting and crushing, depending on what side you are on. Itoh is the protagonist in the grand scheme of things since the Cup tells her story. However, even though Mizuki is a situational antagonist in this context, she remains the protagonist writing her own story, one of prolonged failure to reach the Promised Land. Therefore, and it's the cherry on the cake, the arc of both participants moves forward. Itoh, perennial lovable loser, enjoyed some nice wins lately; this is the biggest one yet and arguably to this day because of what it represents, over the back-to-back Princess Cup winner. It triggers her road to the top as the first step of her gauntlet through the top names of the company: Shoko in the final, Miyu at Wrestle Princess II. No more a delusional kid obsessed with ghosts, her growth includes focusing on realistic goals and putting in the work to attain them. By defeating Mizuki for the first time thanks to a sound strategy, she beats the woman she chased forever, with whom she used to form Itoh Respect-gun, inseparable tag team before an abrupt and bitter separation, and who just defeated someone she is also winless against: the Ace, against whom she will hit her glass ceiling in October. Despite her win over said Ace in the previous round, Mizuki is once again denied on her way to the elusive PoP title, once again by someone she has a history with. It will take her another 581 days to get there. It's only fitting that after the 2020 Wrestle Princess classic against Yuka, as the primary emoter, she is one crucial half of another canonical match in the lore of ToJo.
Gripping, emotional, exhausting, layered. This is consequential wrestling at its finest. The likes you see in the legendary classics from peak AJPW, NOAH or NJPW. Hold on, bear with me... During 18 minutes and 39 seconds, not a single action, interaction, sequence, chain of events... can't be explained by the context, the characters, their qualities and defaults / strengths and weaknesses, their motivations, their goals, their relationship. There is nothing out of place, nothing that doesn't make sense from a style or substance standpoint. Airtight psychology without a single bomb, stiff blow, flip, counter, reversal or, more importantly, second of dead air. The kind of out-of-the-body experience that rewards the fans for paying attention for so long. The perfect example of what investment, character-driven approach and storytelling pushed to the paroxysm can produce. Entering the tournament, Itoh has one goal: beating Mizuki. Not hoisting the Cup, not using it as a springboard to the Princess of Princess championship held by the other half of 121000000. Beating Mizuki. Her first friend, ally, rival when it all begins in 2017. The obstacle she has yet to overcome. The measuring stick that prompted her to push her limits. The measuring stick that, on this occasion particularly, forces her to push her limits. On a day where Itoh wants it more, on a day where being stopped especially by this opponent isn't an option, no matter the cost, fractured cheekbone and all, she finally leaps the hurdle she couldn't until then to close a major chapter of her journey. During the moving post-match, she aknowledges Mizuki: "Thank you for making me stronger". This is pro-wrestling! The kind of career culmination, multi-year arc payoff nailed by timeless classics such as Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Genichiro Tenryu (6/5/1989), Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Kenta Kobashi (3/1/2003), Kazuchika Okada vs. Tetsuya Naito (1/5/2020)...
Sure, the scope isn't as large; I doubt Joshi could feel that big again anytime soon. But it's only held back by suspect execution here and there, as expected from a promotion like TJPW and their choices as far as house style goes. When something downright appealing to me is coming, I can sense it during the entrances and the first few minutes. The really special matches feel different; there is something in the air. Afterwards, they usually stay with me a couple of days. Mizuki vs. Maki Itoh is one of them. It has that all-time greatness sensation to it, even if, once again, it falls just short of that territory because of some shaky mechanics. I know: these two aren't supposed to have THAT great of a match, TJPW isn't a company supposed to put on THAT great of a match, 20s Joshi isn't supposed to offer THAT great of a match, this style of match isn't supposed to be THAT great. Trust me, even I struggled for a long time to wrap my head around this concept. I know I'm definitely the high man here. But I also know how I love my wrestling and how, through the years, I learned to appreciate things regardless of the environment: mainstream appeal, buzz, size of the venue, crowd temperature, length, highlight friendly style... At the end of the day, a match that connects so deeply with me on first watch, that have me rewatching it with teary eyes from start to finish the second and third and fourth time isn't a fluke. Nothing scientific but matches that hit certain notes and do the most important things right bring tears to my eyes; not that I cry, am sad or anything. It's just how my body reacts organically when I feel positively overwhelmed, and I don't feel positively overwhelmed easily. One heck of a ride!
Besides execution, the other downside would be Itoh's new attire, giving away the endgame from the get-go; one usually doesn't debut a new gear in a semi big spot to put over the opponent. Still, it doesn't detract from the countless qualites of the entire package. If you ask me, second best match in TJPW history and serious contender for women's match of the 20s; I can't think of 30 Joshi matches ever I would take over this one. An EXCEPTIONAL piece of business!

Im still newer to Christianity so correct me or inform me of any info you have but honestly the whole all knowing thing has confused me a little bit. Does God turn off this all knowing power when he wants or something? Bc if he were 100% of the time all knowing wouldn’t this imply he knew what would happen to humans when they were made. He knew Satan would be made. He knew satan would infiltrate the garden of eden. Im sure theres an answer to this so feel free. I am naive and I just find asking actual people vs google is always more helpful. God bless. 😁

2024.05.01 15:13 HenryOrlando2021 Meibomian Gland Probing Dilemma: Making an Informed Choice…Part 2

Probing is often reported as not being USA FDA approved while IPL and LipiFlow are FDA approved:
This statement could be driven by a desire of probing critics to present the assertions of probing as inferior given it is not FDA approved while the other two devices are superior since they are approved. Then it could also be driven by a fundamental misconception of how the FDA operates.
The tools used by the doctor when doing MGP are in FDA Class I (assessed by the FDA as lower risk to patients thus less regulation required) and are approved for use by physicians by the USA FDA. The assumption of Class I is that in the hands of a physician the tools are low risk.
LipiFlow and IPL is in FDA Class II of medical devices (more risk to patients, not always administered by a physician, thus needing a more robust approval process in the FDA’s opinion) that must go through a more thorough process to get approval from the FDA. Additionally, probing cannot go through a FDA Class II approval process unless the FDA changed their rules. Thus evaluation by the FDA as a Class II treatment is not possible for probing.
Does approval in Class II mean a device is safer or riskier than a tool that is in Class I procedure? Not necessarily since items used in medicine as tools in Class I are considered low risk by the FDA but they do not and will not evaluate procedures that are done using Class I tools. In practice is LipiFlow, IPL and probing equally as safe? Well, that is again a judgment call most likely.
In this writer’s non-expert opinion, probably LipiFlow is the safest since it has few contraindications for use, is the least invasive, does the same process each time since it is a mechanical device and requires little or no judgment on the part of the person administering the treatment.
IPL probably is the next safest as it also uses a machine, however it has more contraindications for use, is more invasive as the intense pulsed light penetrates into the body tissues of face/eye, requires the person doing the treatment to make a judgment about how much power to use with the device, how many passes with the device to make, what parts of the face/eyes to shield, apply gel to the area to protect the body parts treated, whether to do eyelid expression afterward or not as well as how much pressure to use if doing expression afterward.
Probing is likely the least safe of the three since it does involve pain medication via injection before doing the procedure, entering an interior part of the body with a probe (blunt and not pointed), it is not mechanical thus depends on the skills of the physician to the largest degree, the physician has to make judgments while doing the procedure on how to proceed with the procedure, and one has to be more careful with not creating infections before, during and after the procedure as well compared to the device treatments.
The bottom line to this writer is one needs to make a decision on probing based on the risks/benefits for themselves and discount the FDA approval issue as something of a diversion since it is sort of an “apples and oranges” comparison. Then others would say this point of view is simply ridiculous and evidence of this writer’s bias as seeing a place for probing at all in DED/MGD.
If you want a more detailed understanding of this FDA element go here:
FDA Approval Misconceptions: Meibomian Gland Probing vs. LipiFlow and IPL Treatments
To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail critique:
Critics use this old saying sometimes to criticize probing. In short probing is the hammer so every patient is the nail. The doctor is just running a probing factory if you will. Critics often say this about Dr. Maskin in particular who uses probing as early as possible when a diagnosis of MGD is made. I will go deeper into why he advocates for earlier probing in the “when” section later in this article. Probing early is not the case with all doctors who probe. Probably most doctors who probe will only do probing after most other treatment options have failed.
The counter argument made by the pro-probing people sounds as follows. The pro-probing person would point out that if one asserts the hammenail saying to probing can one not say the same from someone with an IPL machine or other medical device has their hammer and their nails as well?
Probing is all about making money from the exorbitant fees for doing probing critique:
The assertion is made that probing doctors and Dr. Maskin (who developed probing) in particular, are motivated by money since the probing procedure, (needed annually for most) commonly will cost $2,000 to $5,000 depending on what market one lives in, what protocol is used by the doctor and the doctor set price point. Doctors in demand with long experience often charge the most for the probing procedure. Also doctors who don’t do therapeutic lavage, which is in the Maskin protocol, usually charge less for the probing since they are doing less and have less costs from not doing the steroid lavage.
Pro probing people will assert that probing, comparatively usually to IPL and/or LipiFlow but it can also apply to other device treatments, is not lucrative to the doctor compared to IPL treatment and other devices. Probing takes a lot of doctor time compared to the device treatments that in most cases do not require any doctor time since they can be delivered by medical assistants. Time is money to a doctor much like it is to say a car mechanic, electrician or plumber. With IPL, that does require some doctor time in most cases, is much shorter than the doctor time for probing. Also most of the device treatments, while less cost each time (usually in the $300 to $500 range each time) than probing, also must be done monthly for several months (or in some devices weekly for a few weeks) and then after the initial treatments anywhere from every 3 or 6 months it needs to be repeated for a recharge if you will. Some have to be done even more often than every 3 months to keep the symptoms at bay.
Pro probing people will also often point out that isn’t probing a “competitor” to those medical devices and that is why these doctors don’t recommend probing as it cuts into their lucrative device treatment business?
Also pro probing people will sometimes point out the amounts of money going to some highly visible doctors often from device makers and/or “Big Pharma” companies compared to what goes to Dr. Maskin pales in comparison. Then does that large amount of money bias those doctors? This money is tracked by the USA government so you can look up any doctor’s name and get the amounts they are paid each year and their history of payments here…the next data update is scheduled for June of 2024:
https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/search?searchType=Provider&FirstName=&LastName=Parbhu&Country=&State=&City=&Zip=&Specialty=&Type=&NPI=
Here are the most common doctors it seems to me that pro probing people are referring to with this “big money going to them” as follows:
Rolando Toyos, MD is here with $197,012.49 in 2022: https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/physician/315303
Steven L. Maskin, MD is here with $10,281.69 in 2022: https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/physician/537569
Laura M Periman, MD is here with $285,736.64 in 2022 https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/physician/335201
The “Why don’t more doctors do probing?” Question:
If probing was so good why aren’t more doctors doing it? That is what is generating this question used as a critique of probing.
Here are the reasons I have run across on why more doctors are not doing probing:
  1. IPL is done by a machine. The machine sales, while costly (up to $125,000), provide the machine company with a large marketing budget so it can market directly to doctors on the advantages to patients from IPL and the financial benefits to the doctor of offering IPL. In some states the doctor may not have to do the procedure themselves so it takes no doctor time. In states where they do have to actually do the procedure their part of it can be done in 5 or 10 minutes. Time is money to a doctor.
To a business owner profits are directly related to how the management/owners can profit off the machines and worker. A medical practice is a business in the USA. IPL and Lipiflow machines can be a very lucrative addition to a practice. Having IPL also gives the doctor an edge over their doctor competition in their market thus growing their practice faster and larger if they have a mind.
  1. LipiFlow has a machine and thus a similar process (business wise anyway) as IPL but it only costs up to $75,000. Also, the doctor does not have to do the procedure at all anywhere as far as I know.
  2. Most ophthalmologists and optometrists have established and busy practices. Doing Meibomian gland probing requires them to spend time learning more about DED and learning the protocol for probing. Also, probing must be done by the doctor. Probing takes a lot of doctor time compared to usually none or little of the doctor's time with the other two. Thus lower demand from doctors to learn the probing procedure.
  3. The company that is providing tools and the protocol on probing is here: https://mgdi.com/mg-probing-overview-physicians They don't have a large marketing budget I figure since the tools are a minor cost (Dr. Maskin has a 5% interest in this tools firm). They rely on doctors who already are fairly deep into DED/MGD treatment, may already do IPL or LipiFlow and want to provide the probing procedure to their patients who they think need it. Thus lower demand from doctors to do the procedure and lower demand from patients.
  4. Patients who are looking at probing are concerned with the fee charged for probing and/or just don't have the money. It almost always involves at least $2,000 to $5,000 and sometime even more due to travel costs. Thus lower demand.
  5. Patients who are looking at probing are fearful of having the procedure. They are concerned that it will be painful. Thus lower demand.
  6. Patients just don't know it is available unless they dig into DED/MGD treatments deeper than most. Non probing doctors (most of whom are general practitioners) do not really understand the “why” of doing probing and/or often don’t take the time to really sort it out. Of course the scientific evidence may not be sufficient enough yet to convince many or even most doctors that probing is an appropriate treatment. Thus they do not tell their patients about the probing option and/or don't believe in it and/or offer IPL or LipiFlow and/or iLux thus want to try that first with the patient. There are also some doctors who actively and publically assert that they do not recommend probing who use the other approaches. Thus lower demand.
Other Considerations to Address in Coming to A Yes or No Decision:
Current/Future Condition:
The patient considering probing may have exhausted the treatment options available. Some patients have been using the treatment options listed above and more, usually with at least some success, for years, up to a decade or even more. Yet, they have continued to get worse and fear things will continue to get worse with MGP being the only one treatment they have not tried.
That type of history adds an element of what one might describe as “desperation” in making the decision. The thinking might be something like, given my condition, given my history of treatments, given MGD is a progressive disease thus the prospects for my symptoms to become even worse, what have I to lose in taking the risk? Sort of as the old sayings goes like: “A rock and a hard place.” Or “The Devil or the deep blue sea.” Or “Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.”
This situation often bring into play a person’s “risk tolerance”. Think of risk tolerance as being on a continuum of from 1 to 10. Some people being risk seeking with 10 being the highest level of risk seeking, versus 1 being the lowest level. This factor can influence how people view a decision like should one do probing or not given the information available. Not that there is anything wrong with saying no to probing for any reason. It is a very personal decision seems to me.
The Case for Doing Probing When Unresponsive to More Conservative Treatments Options:
Introduction:
Here is my non-doctor, layperson researched, and “patient who learned from the school of hard knocks” thoughts on the subject. After 13 years with Dry Eye Disease (DED) and with doing a ton of all the “right” things. I ultimately got probed via Dr. Maskin (not that probing is the Holy Grail and I am cured now). Do remember just because I had a good outcome with probing does not mean you will. Especially if you do not have a doctor who has good to great depth to diagnose and treat all of the comorbidities that led to the Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) in the first place.
Meibomian gland dysfunction is commonly managed by doctors (and commonly people on their own) initially with conservative treatments such as warm compresses, eyelid hygiene, eyelid massages, and omega-3 supplements, etc. If you have been diligently following these measures but continue to experience MGD-related symptoms, your eye care professional may consider other options like prescription medications such as Restasis, Xiidra or Cequa as the next steps.
In my case just these early treatments alone kept my symptoms at bay for a good 5 years. In that time frame I did not know the disease was progressive so it probably would get worse in time. If you are at this point relatively early in your disease process you could begin to consider MGP while using those treatments. You likely need to get more robust testing done that at least includes a Meibography. That is probably prudent to see how bad it is getting in the background. To learn more about what testing is useful see this information that has links to the writings of Edward Jaccoma, MD see here:
How is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Diagnosed? Did Your Doctor Do These Tests?
Meibomian Gland Expression Insufficient: In many cases, eye care professionals may next try manual Meibomian gland expression to clear gland blockages. However, if the expression yields minimal improvement or is ineffective, probing may be arguably a more direct and effective way to address the underlying gland obstruction. The risk with expression is that the manual expression or mechanical expression (like iLux, LipiFlow) approach may make things worse in the long run, since the periductal fibrosis problem continues to grow in the background, while the treatments used, possibly giving you some relief in the short term, are making things worse for the long term.
Chronic Blepharitis: Chronic inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis) can contribute to MGD. If you have blepharitis that is not adequately controlled with eyelid hygiene and other treatments, your doctor might suggest BlephEx or other methods of Lid Margin Debridement Lid margin debridement is not without risk. Lid margin debridement may cause a loss of gap junctions of the lid margin epithelial cells allowing infiltration of toxic, allergic, and other molecules into the periglandular zones, causing increased inflammation. Trauma to the lid margin with repeated debridement may also lead to scarring of the Meibomian gland orifices, and obstruction of the openings. It might be better to not do these procedures at all and instead proceed with MGP some would argue.
Persistent Symptoms…enter the medical device treatments: If you have been experiencing persistent dry eye symptoms, such as dryness, grittiness, burning, itching, or fluctuating vision, despite using artificial tears and other standard conservative treatments for dry eye, your doctor will likely recommend more advanced interventions like IPL, LipiFlow, TearCare, iLux, Radio Frequency, Low Level Light Therapy, etc. That said, one still may need to be concerned that the periductal fibrosis is continuing to grow as one considers options and/or does some of these device oriented treatments. Here again these types of treatments might give short term (weeks, months, or maybe years) relief but could further damage the Meibomian glands and thus result in more severe long term problems. Some people have had dozens of these types of treatments over years or now some up to a decade just to keep their symptoms at bay while periductal fibrosis continued to get worse in the background.
Now, that was my personal experience over 11 years of these types of approaches (and more) before I learned of and considered probing. If one has obstructive MGD, which is the most common type of MGD, stopping or reversing periductal fibrosis is a major concern. To the time of this writing probing is the only way to significantly impact the periductal fibrosis.
Significant Meibomian Gland Dysfunction: An eye examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist can help assess the severity of your Meibomian gland dysfunction. A Meibography could be useful as well in assessing the glands although there are concerns about this method being totally accurate. The classification of Meibomian gland atrophy stages are often defined as follows:
Stage 0: No loss of Meibomian glands.
Stage 1: Up to 25% loss of glandular tissue.
Stage 2: Between 26% and 50% loss of glandular tissue.
Stage 3: Between 51% and 75% loss of glandular tissue.
Stage 4: More than 75% loss of glandular tissue.
This classification system focuses primarily on the percentage of gland loss, which is visible through Meibography.
If the glands show significant dysfunction, probing may be beneficial to help restore their function and improve tear film stability. That is where the issue of “when” to do probing rears its head.
If you asked Dr. Maskin, he would probably say, do Meibomian gland probing first and you might not need device treatments like IPL, LipiFlow etc. at all. He would also probably say, do the probing first, because you want to create in the glands the conditions of being open, expanded and unobstructed before you do anything to the glands, like heating them (via IPL, TearCare, iLux or LipiFlow) or squeezing them (lid expression done with medical instruments immediately after IPL and/or with TearCare, iLux and LipiFlow) which could provoke more inflammation and damage without probing first.
Unresponsive to Advanced Treatments: More advanced interventions like BlephEx, IPL, LipiFlow, TearCare, iLux, Autologous Serum Tears, Scleral Lenses, FAB, etc. have little to no evidence that they will address the issue of periductal fibrosis if present. Some patients will get years or even some people a decade of these types of treatments and continue to get worse. Others get declining symptom relief from these approaches. It is at this point many decide they will look seriously into Meibomian gland probing often seeing it as a “last resort” treatment or just do it out of desperation.
Then comes the question of why go this route? If you know that is where things are headed maybe so. Let’s nip this thing in the bud if you will. Not so fast…let’s look at that closer.
The Case for When First Diagnosed with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) do probing ASAP:
In my time reading what people write online about probing I figure many, if not most, people are highly opposed to probing early but can see how someone would do probing given they have tried everything else with no success. Here is my thoughts on the probing early option:
  1. Assuming the evidence is correct about that scar tissue (periductal fibrosis) inside the glands that surrounds, constricts, squeezes and invades the glands plays an important role in causing them to become blocked.
  2. Assuming the evidence is correct about this dysfunction can lead to partial or complete atrophy of the gland as well as this process is a major cause of how poor quality and quantity of oil (meibum) results over time.
  3. Assuming the evidence in #1 and #2 above is correct this leads to a chicken and the egg problem of MGD contributes to inflammation and inflammation contributes to MGD making things worse over time.
  4. Assuming the assertion is correct that any treatment that involves heat and Meibomian gland expression makes things worse over time.
  5. Assuming if one had any other treatment done like iLux, IPL, TearCare, LipiFlow, office lid expression, etc. then they would yield better results from them if MGP had been completed before them or you may not need them at all.
  6. Then when first diagnosed with MGD it could or would make sense as the best time to do probing. Preserve the Meibomian glands right out of the gate since up to 85% of all DED patients have MGD issues at the core with obstructive MGD being the largest reason for MGD and we know the disease is progressive and will get worse. Thus waiting is likely to lead to more pain, more serious damage like corneal neuralgia (the nerves of the cornea become hypersensitive causing pain with no observable signs of cornea damage) as well as what doctors would diagnose as neuropathic pain or “pain without stain” along with more difficulty in getting the glands working again if one waits to do probing.
Clearly to me the case for early probing rests on how directly it addresses periductal fibrosis, might effectively restore gland functioning more quickly than other more conservative treatments, might provide immediate relief of symptoms, might reduce or eliminate the need for other more conservative therapies, might avoid becoming dependent on these more conservative therapies and most importantly might prevent gland atrophy.
Indeed this is a lot of use of the words “assuming” and “might”. Now that gets us back to what is your risk tolerance and do you think there is enough evidence at this point to take the risk to get the benefits.
Note on the “pain without stain” term and what that means in terms of progression of DED/MGD:
The term "pain without stain" in the context of eye health refers to a situation where a patient experiences eye pain, but when the eye is examined using diagnostic dyes like fluorescein (a staining technique), no abnormalities or damage are visible on the surface of the eye. Fluorescein dye helps to highlight abrasions, erosions, or foreign bodies on the cornea by staining the affected areas, which can then be seen under a special light.
When an eye doctor says or writes "pain without stain," it suggests that the patient's pain is real, but the typical causes of eye pain that would be visible under staining—like scratches, ulcers, or infections—are not present. This can be challenging because the absence of staining may initially limit the diagnostic options. Possible conditions that might cause this scenario include:
Dry eye syndrome - Can cause significant discomfort or pain without always showing clear signs of corneal staining.
Neuropathic pain - Pain that originates from the nerves themselves; in this case, the ocular surface might look normal, but the nerves could be malfunctioning or damaged.
Referred pain - Pain that originates from another area but is felt in the eye.
Other less common causes - Such as inflammation inside the eye (iritis, uveitis) or increased eye pressure (glaucoma) that may not show surface staining but can cause pain.
Conclusion:
If you are reading this you are in a tough spot most likely. Remember, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and benefits associated with any treatment option. Also always keep in mind just because a treatment option worked or did not work for one person it does not mean the same will occur for you. There are even doctors who would say there is no need for doing MGP at all…ever. There will be doctors and people who are enthusiastic and passionate in their support or opposition to probing.
Personally, I would not presume to tell someone to go one way or the other or when to do probing. Like any human being, I have blind spots and biases so I almost certainly did an imperfect job on this piece. Review the research. Consider the risks/benefits. Consider your risk tolerance. Consider what doctors and people are saying. Consider your current level of functioning. Consider where you could progress to if probing is done or not done. Then come to an informed decision is my patient perspective recommendation. It is a tough decision.
Improve, Rebut, Point Out Bias, Make Points I Missed Etc.
Reminder: Since this is published on a Reddit Sub help make the purpose of this piece better by commenting on things (pro or con) that make it better as a tool for helping someone come to a decision on if and when Meibomian Gland Probing is for them. We are all in this together and nobody is the enemy I figure even though as humans we sometimes forget that element.

You played as a black haired white girl who I think was training to be a assassin who had infiltrated a party for a king. I remember she got caught by some random person who just wanted to talk.
final fantasy six style in how the characters looked but the characters might have been slightly more detailed. I remember the sprites being pretty large for an RPG Maker title.
there was combat where the good guys would stand on one side of the screen against the enemies. (Left vs right)
There was a scene where the main girl gets injured or something and the entire cast was standing around her worried.
At one point you play as two characters on these floating islands in space. My memory makes it look like Toejam & Earl but a more dark aesthetic.
Sorry I don't have a lot for y'all to work with but any help is appreciated. If you don't have an answer but know any good resources for me to search through that would also be greatly appreciated!

Additionally this tournament was my first ever experience on player placed terrain... Which came up in my later games
Game 1: I matched against a Blood Angels list with lots of jump pack units. I had more shooting than him so I set the terrain with big line of site gaps. Turn 2 he lost 2/3 of his army and I provided to win 100-29. He told me it was his first game in 6 months and with a brand new army. He proceeded to win his next 4 games with scores in the 90s and came in 7th or so. I guess I was just a warm-up game for him.
Round 2: vs orks. I made a massive misplay on my round 2 letting a 20 boy unit with 2 characters engage Bjorn my thundercav and my Hellblasters tying them up and wiping them out. From there everything spiraled out of control and I lost everything else. Had a fun moment where my last surviving model a lonely inceptor scored overwhelming force, capture enemy outpost, and 5 primary at the end of turn 5 bringing the score to 58-93
Round 3: vs chaos knights. Determined to get a second win day 1 I picked up 2 war dogs turn 1, 4 more turn 2, and 3 more turn 3. He ended the game with 1 last war dog and some plaguebearers. It took me several turns to stage and take control of the points vs those oc8 dogs so the final score was 78-63.
Round 4: doing pretty well day 1 put me in the big leagues as I was #12 on rankings after 3 matches. I was placed against tau on chosen battlefield. This in combo with player placed terrain ended with a massive shooting gallery. I knew I had to risk it and deployed aggressively hoping to get first turn. I rolled a 5, my opponent a 6. This set the tempo for the game as there were many instances of him rolling 10 dice needing 4+ and getting 8. And then me rolling 8 saved and getting 2. I was tabled top of turn 4. Score 41-97
Round 5: chaos space Marines. Abaddon castle with a helbrute 4 obliterators 2 predators 2 vindicators and some chaff/scoring units. This matchup felt unplayable. I lost all my cavalry to turn 1 obliterator indirect with their 4 damage lethal/sustained 5+ rerolling all hits shooting. Lost my repulsor to tanks and Hellblasters to advance and charge raptors. By bottom of turn 3 I had my lieutenant and infiltrators left. I'm genuinely not sure if I could have made a difference with how that game went just felt like a complete counter to my game plan. My melee was screened out. My eradicators killed in overwatch by a predator and my ranged couldn't stand up to his. Final score 39-100
I feel like I learned a lot but not sure how relevant it is. This was the last tournament doing player placed terrain. I'm not sure how I would change my list. In this tournament the thundercav brick was very hit or miss either carrying my melee damage or just never getting into melee with his dense some of the maps were. I think I need more secondary scoring but also better melee or tougher ranged? The army felt too jack of all trades master of none. I couldn't put melee melee armies and definitely couldn't outshoot ranged ones. My wins were out shooting a melee army and out shooting a melee one. I'd love to hear some feedback!

The anti-nazi tradition of Hardcore Techno
The Hardcore Techno community has a long tradition of opposing, resisting, and fighting fascism, nazism, and similar right-wing tendencies.
It is noteworthy that, in that regard, there has been an alliance made up of a huge variety of different social groups within the Hardcore scene:
otherwise "unpolitical" people, working class kids with a dislike against nazis, migrants, LGBTQIA+ folk, middle class anti right wing activists, squatters and free party people, "gabberpunks", street fighters, full-blooded communists and anarchists; all united in their hate against the atrocious monster that is fascism.
It's nice to see that these people, who would often disagree and argue with each other on a lot of topics, do all agree that fascism is a political horror and not a mere "opinion", a horror that needs to be fought, chased, circled in, and destroyed.
Slogan and logo originated by Mokum
Of course, at the same time, the extreme right always tried to infiltrate and corrupt the Hardcore scene; like they always try with any "youth culture". This was a problem in the past, and might be a growing problem in the future.
But for this feature, we want to look at the history of the resistance against fascism within Hardcore Techno culture.
There were campaigns, and slogans such as Mokum's "United Gabbers against Racism & Fascism"; anti-racist messages were included in vinyl cover art, booklets, or even etched into the run-outs of the record; anti fascist symbols and imagery was a common sight on flyers for hardcore, speedcore and breakcore parties of all types. And many notorious nazis who insisted in showing up to an actual gabber party were "shown the door" in a "very physical way", or to put it another way: many fights were won.
Now, let's turn the focus to the actual music: tracks that showcase this very topic in their sonic content.
1. Party Animals - Die Nazi Scum (feat. Rob Gee) (Whiplash Mix)
Mokum ran the campaign "United Gabber against Racism & Fascism" in the 90s (as mentioned above); this track, which was released on the label, too, is a good example of that mindset.
The Party Animals team up with Hardcore Legend Rob Gee to deliver a strong messages to the nazis.

2. PCP Project - N.R.N.F.O. (Nazi Rednecks Fuck Off)
"This song is not againt skinheads. It's against people who are stupid in the head. [...] Nazi Rednecks Fuck Off".
This track by PCP says it like it is.
It also addresses the "defense" by many right wing Gabbers: that those who confront the fascist thread would confuse "harmless, unpolitical skinheads" with real nazis. No, skinheads are not the problem at all. The problem are the actual nazis.
With a release date of 1991, it's one of the earliest signs of hardcore opposition against fascists.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxJckv8uOZ8
3. DJ Freak Vs. Noize Creator - The Anti Nazi Pack A2
The extreme Hardcore / Speedcore scene was even more outspoken against the right wing, and this is a good proof of that.
DJ Freak and Noize Creator stir up a symphony of speed, noise, and distortion against the nazi menace.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VaRJrZNie4
4. Chosen Few - Chosen Anthem (Against Racism)
Mokum once more. An early hardcore anthem against racism (released in 1993). and a very good one at that!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9WnOZzA9w8
5. Micropoint - Anti Nazi Vendetta (Part 1)
La Résistance fought bravely against the real world nazis in world war II, and modern France has a strong opposition against them too.
and in the teknival and free party adjacent french hardcore / noisecore scene, this stance is even more prominent.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dndHLHTJNdE
6. Alec Empire - Hetzjagd auf Nazis
One of the classic anti nazi anthems, isn't it? An early breakcore outing, sporting breakneck beats and hoover madness - an onslaught on the senses, and on the conscience too, i hope!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5dJuIAUzoQ
7. Bazooka - Waz Gibtz Noyze ? (FukDaNazisMix)
another example of the anti nazi current within the then emerging hardcore / speedcore scene.
a strong statement, wrapped within a high quality (and quite noisy) track on shockwave recordings.
this track samples Paul Celan's "Todesfuge", one of the most important german-language poems about the very real horrors of fascism.
