2024.05.18 13:46 Repulsive_Spite_4992 Banned bird, this is how your report should have been.

Banned bird......This is a report (Elphaba)
To whom this concerns,
On the evening's 30/4/24- 1/5/24, I was absolutely horrified and left in disgust at the behaviour of one of your creators on tiktok live. Elphaba Orion Doherty, who also uses other accounts to side step account bans, displayed extremely horrifying behaviour that should never be witnessed on the app.
Thousands of people, potentially even many more thousands after the initial incident, were subjected to dangerous suicide baiting behaviour and violent content by Elphaba Orion Doherty. She held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill herself to thousands upon thousands of viewers, whilst appearing to be very unstable after an incident the previous evening of claiming she had self harmed. On the day of the 1/5/24, she was even showing her viewers, who again were in the thousands her self harm "injuries" on her wrist and arm, saying that she would "show them" to her viewers so she could manipulate her audience for more gifts.
Elphaba Orion Doherty was allowed, despite thousands and thousands and thousands of reports for online safety due to the content of brandishing a knife to her own throat, threatening harm to herself and saying she "wants to die" These reports were all received with no violations and the live was allowed to continue for over twenty minutes.
Children under the age of sixteen years of age have self harmed as a result of this. Adults who experience mental health battles have harmed themselves as a result of this. Families and friends of those who have committed suicide have been affected by this.
This creator has a track record of inflammatory behaviour on the app, which again has been reported on numerous occasions because of the very real risk to children who do have access to the app. Not only just children and impressionable young people, but also the vupnerable adults and everhone else who is subjected to this behaviour. The content of this creator suicide baiting, threatening to kill themselves, actively abusing alcohol and narcotics whilst on live is completely unacceptable. If she isn't displaying the above-mentioned behaviour, then she is demanding gifts and money from her viewers, literally demanding.
Due to Elphaba being a trans creator and also young (20 years of age) She is very attractive to the younger generations, the target audience being children as a large percentage of her gifters and viewers are children. She already has an extremely negative influence on these children, with her regular intoxicated ramblings, narcotic induced tantrums, and now suicide baiting and self harming while on live, is a psychological and emotional minefield for children. Elphaba needs IP bans and enforced bans from making other accounts for the safety and well-being of so many people who use the app and platform for welcomed, creative purposes.
On a daily basis, Elphaba breaks the platforms own policies. Please see below. And I am using general terms in referring to youths 13+ who are legally allowed to have accounts and access to the platform.
TIKTOK POLICY BREACHES
•"Youth safety is our priority. We do not allow content that may put young people at risk of exploitation, or psychological, physical, or developmental harm. This includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), youth abuse, bullying, dangerous activities and challenges, exposure to overtly mature themes, and consumption of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or regulated substances. If we become aware of youth exploitation on our platform, we will ban the account, as well as any other accounts belonging to the person."
As we are aware that Elphaba Orion Doherty has regularly exploited 13+ youths to emotional and psychological harm by displaying the above mentioned behaviour of suicide baiting, self harm, narcotic and alcohol abuse on a regular basis. Elphaba regularly discusses sexual exhibitionism and sexual assault incidents that have allegedly happened to her, and she routinely sexualises comments and innuendos that are inappropriate entirely. Not to mention how Elphaba regularly manipulates her young viewers for gifts.
•"We are committed to bringing people together in a way that does not lead to physical conflict. We recognize that online content related to violence can cause real-world harm. We do not allow any violent threats, incitement to violence, or promotion of criminal activities that may harm people, animals, or property. If there is a specific, credible, and imminent threat to human life or serious physical injury, we report it to relevant law enforcement authorities."
The platform does have many qualities and content that is perfect for what is described, however Elphaba has threatened to physically harm other creators on a regular basis, has been active in criminal activities such as using narcotics, encouraging underage drinking of alcohol and encouraging dangerous behaviour.
• "TikTok is enriched by the various backgrounds of our community members. Our differences should be respected, rather than a cause for division. We do not allow any hateful behavior, hate speech, or promotion of hateful ideologies. This includes content that attacks a person or group because of protected attributes, including: Caste, Ethnicity, National Origin, Race, Religion, Tribe, immigration status, Gender, Gender Identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, serious diseases."
Elphaba has repeatedly broken these guidelines which have been reported, again thousands of thousands of times in her lives. She has been transphobic, racist remarks, direct racism to other content creators, discriminatory towards other genders. She has also made sexualised remarks regarding other's sexual identity and violent sexual exhibitionism regarding others of the opposite sex.
• "TikTok is a place where people can come to discuss or learn about sexuality, sex or reproductive health. We are mindful that certain content may not be appropriate for young people, may be considered offensive by some, or may create the potential for exploitation. We do not allow sexual activity or services. This includes sex, sexual arousal, fetish and kink behavior, and seeking or offering sexual services. However, it does not include reproductive health and sex education content."
Elphaba does not host informative content such as sex education or reproductive health discussions. She regularly broadcasts that she wants to find a "man" and how he needs to have particular attributes. She often discusses what she would do to these men, quite graphically which again, is not appropriately for her target audience.
• "We celebrate all shapes and sizes and want people to feel comfortable in how they present themselves and their bodies. We understand societies approach body exposure and clothing differently, so we seek to reflect prevailing cultural norms about nudity. We do not allow nudity, including uncovered genitals and buttocks, as well as nipples and areolas of women and girls. Sheer and partially see-through clothing is not considered covered. We allow regional exceptions for showing nipples and areolas in limited situations, such as medical treatment, educational purposes, or as a part of culturally accepted practices. Not all young people have the developmental maturity to respond to unwanted physical attention and uninvited sexualization, which may lead to psychological or physical harm. We do not allow significant body exposure of young people. Content is age-restricted if it shows significant body exposure of an adult. Content is ineligible for the FYF if it shows moderate body exposure of a young person, or significant body exposure of an adult. We allow regional exceptions for body exposure in limited situations, such as common cultural practices."
Elphaba on more than one occasion has exposed their genitals, full genitals while dancing provocatively in a dress at a club and this video has circulated. She has also exposed herself on her own lives while wearing a different dress on a separate occasion. She has also exposed her chest and cleavage in provocative dresses, including adding make up to accentuate herself to be more visually appealing.
•" TikTok is a place where people can come to discuss or learn about sexuality, sex or reproductive health.
Elphaba regularly discusses her sexual preferences and discusses her kinks and broadcasts her sexual desires whilst on live stream. She routinely discusses her slime fetish, venom fetish, vore, human bodily fluids and often discusses masturbation.
• "In a global community, it is natural for people to have different opinions, but we seek to operate on a shared set of facts and reality. We do not allow inaccurate, misleading, or false content that may cause significant harm to individuals or society, regardless of intent. Significant harm includes physical, psychological, or societal harm, and property damage. It does not extend to commercial and reputational harm, nor does it cover simply inaccurate information and myths. We rely on independent fact-checking partners and our database of previously fact-checked claims to help assess the accuracy of content. Content is ineligible for the FYF if it contains general conspiracy theories or unverified information related to emergencies. To be cautious, content that warrants fact-checking is also temporarily ineligible for the FYF while it is undergoing review. To help you manage your TikTok experience, we add warning labels to content related to unfolding or emergency events which have been assessed by our fact-checkers but cannot be verified as accurate, and we prompt people to reconsider sharing such content."
Elphaba regularly discusses dark conspiracies such as governmental conspiracy, wars and conflicts and repeatedly spreads misinformation medically, politically and in general day to day life and has consistently preached anti governmental propaganda.
• "Content shared online may be seen by anyone, and has a wide reach. We are committed to making sure that any personal information shared intentionally or accidentally on TikTok does not lead to harm. We do not allow content that includes personal information that may create a risk of stalking, violence, phishing, fraud, identity theft, or financial exploitation. This includes content that someone has posted themselves or that they consented to being shared by others."
Personal information has been broadcasted by Elphaba where she has, on numerous occasions attempted to "expose" other tiktok creator's who have spoken out against her behaviour. She has actively put out personal information in terms of photos, names, addresses and incited hatred from her own viewers and supporters on these people she believes is against her when these people simply want to make the app safer for everyone involved. Essentially, Elphaba has "doxxed" also known as, leaking private information in the belief to cause malicious harm. She has also financially exploited vulnerable viewers who have sent ridiculously large amounts of gifts in (monetary value) under the agreement or promise of personal interaction on a one to one basis, or to join the live, or her usual speech is "Send a big gift for a follow"
UK LAW BREACHES

• Blackmailing or threatening particular actions or behaviour that is to force someone to do a specific thing - This is prosecuted under The criminal offence of blackmail under the section 21 of the Theft Act 1968.
There are so many more things that could be added to this report.
Also, please see the attached online safety bill, which Elphaba is in direct breach of in regards to her content and live streaming behaviour ;

2024.05.18 05:31 JpElNeko My Bilateral Tarsal Coalition Story.

Hi everyone,
I found this community years ago and have been silently following the advice everyone has posted here. I've had my condition start showing up when I was in Baseball, and we couldn't figure out why I had so much ankle pain after games. It subsided by alot after I got into college and contiued to do weightlifting and sparring. One day when I was 25 I had slid on my foot and felt a pop. It didn't hurt immediately, but I started experiencing alot more extreme arch pain in my feet like before. Doctor thought it was a sprain, after 4 days off of work I had started experiencing it again. 2 otrhos claimed it was flat feet, one doctor said I had gout. It wasn't until about 2 years in after switching insurances that I was told I had Bilateral Tarsal Coalition. I was told everything that was high impact or combat sports had to stop immediately. I also work in the restaurant industry, and all they said I could really do was quit the industry or look for shoes that may help. They told me the surgery was a no go because I was too young, they did suggest weight loss. Now at 33 they have told me that I'm not qualified for the surgery anymore because I'm too old. My current ortho has said the same thing everyone has said for the last few years, and now I've developed an inflamed nerve pain underneath my upper left part of my foot which he has on to say "Yeah that happens". I've gone through braces, different shoes, orthotics, castings, and steroids. All of it being very temporary for pain, and as the years go on I feel like it's gotten worse. I've lost weight, have the right shoes, and I've had to increase my pain killer intake to almost 2000mg during my work days.
I should also mention I do suffer from Psoriasis which has been factored into my coalition symptoms, but all thats come from it is it may cause my bone spurs but nothing related to my condition just yet. I also smoke weed and take edibles to help with my pain and not have to depend on painkillers so much.
Are my doctors giving me a run around? I'm currently apart of Kaiser and I used to have a PPO program, it feels like I'm just a number to Kaiser with how they've handled my case. Or am I going to be dealing with this for the rest of my time. The idea of changing careers is in the air, but its very difficult to make that change with the pay I need while trying to raise my kid.
This whole post is mostly a way for me to get this off my chest, but I am open to ideas and any tips y'all have.

2024.05.18 03:35 Moocao123 Medicare Advantage - Capitation model, prior authorization, and care coordination in a not vertically integrated model

Medicare Advantage - Capitation model, prior authorization, and care coordination in a not vertically integrated model
Good evening Healthcare_anon members
After the debacle that is the 2024 meme rally, we are finally back to normal operating schedule. For this weekend and possibly even longer, I would like to focus on Medicare Advantage and its model effects. I would like to thank Fabulous-airport-273 and his submission, which is available:
(5) Your thoughts on this April 2024 policy paper - “Medicare Advantage & Vertical Consolidation in Healthcare” : Healthcare_Anon (reddit.com) -> Medicare-Advantage-AELP.pdf (economicliberties.us)
This is a very very dense position paper, and it was a lot to read through. Rainy went through some of the discussion here:
(5) Vertical consolidation of healthcare: the goods, the bads, and the might not work out. bahaha! : Healthcare_Anon (reddit.com)
I thought it would be a good idea to discuss the model of Medicare Advantage, the purpose of capitation, the reason why vertical integration is even happening (think UNH comprising of Optum and UHG), why there is a risk of monopoly and the chance of a company taking more than the mandated MLR threshold, why the DOJ is considering targeting UNH, and what are some of the barriers to achieving the intended final outcome (think why BHG failed, and why CVS/Aetna is having a hard time). That being said, this is a multiple part DD that will link through one another. Their titles will be different, as it speaks to different aspects of the healthcare landscape. If there are any members who are part of the landscape, please speak up and discuss the ideas and or conjectures. We are only a SMALL cog within a much bigger machine, and sometimes our understanding may not be as complete. Your input is welcome!
That being said, let us get started on this extremely dense topic. I thought we may need to start with the background first, therefore this current post.
Medicare advantage and its history: I will not go through so much of this as I have already went through the history quite a bit. Please see the following link for the history lesson of MA:
(5) CMS Finalizes Payment Updates for 2025 Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D Programs - Moocao read it so you hopefully shouldn't have to, part 1: an introduction to Medicare Advantage : Healthcare_Anon (reddit.com)
Capitation model:
Payment Model primer - capitated payments. Policy brief September 2022, available: CEbP_PaymentModelPrimer_CapitatedPayments.pdf (centerforevidencebasedpolicy.org), accessed 05/17/24
How is it supposed to work: capitation payments are adjusted for risk, based on population acuity to ensure adequate payment. To ensure the entity receiving the capitated payment does not withhold care, plans and providers receiving capitated payments often report on quality and utilization measures, which can be linked to performance bonuses or publicly reported to increase transparency. Capitated payments are generally made prior to care delivery and are based on the spectrum of services and utilization of services.
What is the goal: The goal of capitated payments is to reduce, or slow the rate of growth of health care expenditures and to improve quality of care by encouraging greater management and coordination of care.1,5 Capitation payments can be appealing to both public payers and commercial payers, as they shift the locus of care oversight to another entity, whether that be a managed care organization (MCO), physician group, or health system.5 This allows the payer to focus on tasks that are more limited in scope, such as enrollment, claims processing, risk analysis, reinsurance, and customer service.
What are the strengths and pitfalls:
https://preview.redd.it/n7jdj8xw131d1.png?width=904&format=png&auto=webp&s=2179782e8a41e6f0147105a344dbd84208572a1a
So, as an insurance company, the integration of care will create the most cost-effective solution to the care process. This includes reducing utilization, risk management, readmission reduction, risk adjustment documentation, and finally, a whole vertical integration structure to encapsulate the entire medical care process if sufficient capital is raised to allow this process to occur. There is a whole host of processes to discuss, but first let us talk about what happens if that capital isn't available yet.
Prior authorization
What is prior authorization? Lets take Cigna's definition, as they are a big player within the healthcare insurance space:
What is Prior Authorization? Cigna Healthcare
Under medical and prescription drug plans, some treatments and medications may need approval from your health insurance carrier before you receive care.
Prior authorization is usually required if you need a complex treatment or prescription. Coverage will not happen without it. That’s why beginning the prior authorization process early is important.
Or another way of saying it: Insurance companies are playing doctor without a medical license, under the pretext of cost savings.
The above is a very simplification of the complex discussion with prior authorizations, and PA does have a role in many discussions. I do get a little pissed off knowing patients being denied getting an MRI scan at a location that is first available (like at the place where they are first seen), and instead being told they have to wait at another location or else it won't get paid. If you have brain cancer, driving to another location isn't exactly great, worse if you are told you have to wait a month.
Insurance denied MRI claim, saying the location wasn't approved. Hospital now wants me to pay $7000. What should I do? : personalfinance (reddit.com)
In addition, in the medicare advantage space, there is an explosion of prior authorization denials, and CMS has looked into the practice:
https://www.kff.org/medicare/issue-brief/over-35-million-prior-authorization-requests-were-submitted-to-medicare-advantage-plans-in-2021/
And has given their answer to PA's scandalous process:
https://www.cms.gov/newsroom/press-releases/cms-finalizes-rule-expand-access-health-information-and-improve-prior-authorization-process
I could dive into each link to discuss the findings within each report, but I decided that our readership must be educated well enough within the space to be able to achieve the necessary function to understand either their investments, or their ability to navigate the complex systems to which our subreddit is dedicated to. I have too much to go through to delve into details.
The overall discussion I would like to say with regards to insufficient capital to achieve vertical integration: prior authorizations can allow an insurance company to deny needed medical services on the basis on many reasons, which can range as innocuous as incorrect procedure for the diagnosis (yes, ultrasound on a leg is worthless when it was meant for the liver) all the way to completely egregious and almost malpractice (a PET Scan should be considered to find metastasis https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK573059/, but try talking to Aetna (now CVS): https://csn.cancer.org/discussion/315527/pet-scan-denied-by-insurance).
Personally I favor using prior authorizations as a way to triage care, but that isn't what insurance is doing:
https://preview.redd.it/fnm74y20531d1.png?width=859&format=png&auto=webp&s=09b6b8670bdd8d6ca31471f53a84b1940635cf26
https://preview.redd.it/qpkzrlo2531d1.png?width=857&format=png&auto=webp&s=194d7b2bfd83e5fa6cf6a8c9ed5066f8e8a78ca7
Ever tried appealing a prior authorization denial? If you didn't have the pleasure either as a clinician or as a patient, I would never wish that misfortune onto you, even if your appeal is accepted, which can be months down the road and may have cost you very precious time you no longer have. Onto our next topic.
Care coordination
Let us go through care coordination via CMS's definition:
https://www.cms.gov/priorities/innovation/key-concepts/care-coordination
Why Care Coordination is Important: when doctors and other health care providers work together and share information, patient's needs and preferences are known and communicated at the right time to the right people, and the information is used to provide safe, appropriate, and effective care. This can help to keep patients healthier longer, better manage chronic conditions and experience care that is consistent with their goals.
Within the hospital this is achieved by a multidisciplinary team. If you were ever admitted to an inpatient unit and you see a bunch of white coats huddling in front of the patient's room, its basically a mini huddle of all the different people trying to give you the best care possible.
When Care Needs to Be Coordinated:
Follow up care after an emergency hospital visit.
  • Care between a patient’s primary care provider and multiple specialists for a chronic health condition.
  • A temporary stay in a skilled nursing facility.
  • Health care providers coordinating with social services to help a patient with social determinants of health, such as housing, transportation or food.
This sounds wonderful Moocao, why this sounds like a great thing! Why are you telling me this?
Because sometimes the story ends there, and the prior authorization horror story comes around. Remember insurance company pays for your care! What if you needed a rehab facility, and your doctors within the hospital thinks that is the best thing for you, but Humana/UNH MA AI bots decide that you don't need that service?
https://www.lpm.org/news/2023-12-14/lawsuit-claims-humana-uses-ai-to-deny-necessary-health-care-services-to-medicare-advantage-patients
https://www.statnews.com/2023/11/14/unitedhealth-class-action-lawsuit-algorithm-medicare-advantage/
Remember that Health insurers are supposed to coordinate care as part of their patient responsibility? What if they betray that part of their mandate, ration the care you are supposed to receive, just so their stock price looks better in the next quarter?
Eventually this model would create a system where sick people don't get the care they need, and this will show up on the modeling from CMS. Which is why CMS V28 is a horror story to quite a lot of insurance companies. That being said, what if the health insurance companies DID get enough capital for vertical integration?
We shall visit that topic next, and the meat of u/Fabulous-airport-273 Reddit post.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this. I hope this provides you with a better perspective on Medicare Advantage plans and a glimpse of the landscape that I am personally aware. Please submit your comments below on your thoughts
Sincerely
Moocao

2024.05.17 16:19 Kat1836 Maryland Kaiser

Sorry about the rant. Please be kind. I have qualified for and went through the program for weight loss surgery. My surgery was scheduled to take place but covid prevented it. When these drugs came out, I was thrilled because injections sound much better than surgery
I went to doctor yesterday and asked for Zepbound. The doctor gave me the run around and said oh Kaiser might cover 50% but that would leave $3,000 for me to pay. All these hoops to jump through. I am still pursuing it because I need to lose the weight and need the help. I am 51 and my weight keeps creeping up.
I was thinking about doing the compounded meds but doctor was very against it. Anyone have success with compounded meds?

2024.05.17 09:55 Nikki360PDX Top Surgery tomorrow :)

I'm getting top surgery tomorrow and I'm so excited 😊 For reference, I'm located in Washington using Kaiser Permanente insurance for DI with nipple grafts, so if anyone has questions that I may be able to answer because of location or insurance then please ask! I've been soooo lucky...started the process in February, so it's been super quick. Thsnkfully my grandma offered to help me while I recover for as long as I need someone to help me with things. I may be brave enough to post progress pictures, but I'm not sure yet.

2024.05.17 08:14 Mrkittypants1 After years of being denied from insurance, I finally have a consultation with a surgeon!

After years of being denied from insurance, I finally have a consultation with a surgeon!
I’m very hopeful this time around that I’ll be approved! I have my consultation with Dr. Pham with Kaiser in two months.
I’ve been recommended djs from 4 different orthodontists for 4 years now, my first time ever seeing an orthodontist was in 2020. My insurance has denied it 4 times (including my appeals) for being “cosmetic” and non-essential. I was denied twice by kaiser from the years 2020-2023. Then in 2023, Dr. Pham approved me for fixing my underbite! I don’t believe he approved me for djs but I can’t quite remember. Then I switched jobs and therefore switched insurances. I had blue shield and tried to go through the whole process again. This time I saw Dr. Rivera in channel islands maxillofacial surgery center. He was seriously amazing and so thorough with my consultation. He described everything in such detail and was very patient and answered all of my questions. I so badly wanted him to do my surgery! When it came time to move forward, blue shield denied the surgery once more :( My appeals were denied two times as well for the surgery being deemed as cosmetic. It’s been a grueling process and I wanted to give up so many times, but ultimately I’ve realized that advocating for myself is completely worthwhile and I wouldn’t give up.
Now I’m at a different job, with kaiser again. I was a little wary but optimistic. So I collected all of my referrals once more, booked the appointment and waited the 6 months. I had this intake appointment with kaiser on sunset earlier this week, and was told I was a good candidate, and received a consultation appointment with Dr. Pham in a couple months from now. I’ve read good things about Dr. Pham so I have complete confidence he will be great too!
I have Invisalign currently and plan to get braces in 2 months. I have never had braces so I’m probably looking at another 6 months until the surgery, but I’m so excited to get the ball rolling!
Reading this sub I am a little nervous for the recovery, but ultimately want a better quality of life. I don’t think my breathing is as good as it could be (although I don’t know any better!) I don’t have sleep apnea which is a plus. But I’ve suffered from GI issues from having issues chewing. I also get frequent pain behind my left ear.
I’ve included pics from 2017-2018. I underwent rhinoplasty, buccal fat removal and had a chin implant in 2018. There’s also a recent picture of me. I am happy with my nose and chin but you can see my jaw is still quite recessed. I love my nose and am a little worried how it will look after djs… I will be sure to bring up these concerns with Dr. Pham when I see him. I am hopeful that the surgery will be covered. Wish me luck! 🤞

2024.05.16 19:17 sleepythey So overwhelmed by name change process :(

I really just need to vent, I know it will all get done eventually but I'm so overwhelmed right now! I added a content warning just in case, since one of the things I'm venting about is how frustrating it is to have to say my deadname over and over and get misgendered on the phone even after explaining why I need to change my name. This is super long, I don't really expect anyone to read it but just needed to get it out.
My partner and I are both trans and we changed our names at the same time (last names too, since we have been married for over a year and wanted to have the same last name). We got through the legal process. Yay! Our state makes it pretty easy and I was so excited to have it done, finally! But now...
We got our names updated on our Social Security cards a few weeks after changing our names, it took a while because the name change hearings were over the phone and we were told the court would mail the certified name change orders but they just never came so we had to go in person to get copies. They are appointment only now but we also finally got appointments and went to the DMV to update our driver's licenses. Still waiting to get the real licenses in the mail, which is annoying since so many places want to see your new ID and we just have the paper ones right now, still, after about 2 weeks (I know, I know, it takes a while but I'm impatient). We could probably bring those in to banks along with the court order, but we also only have one day off together though to do everything we need to do for normal life along with name change stuff. And some things like PayPal make you upload pictures of front and back of ID. Which won't work with these stupid paper ones since they are literally just on regular printer paper.
I've been working on updating my own stuff (and some of my partner's) as much as I can on my other day off when they are at work, but it's just. So much. I feel like I'm getting a lot done and then I look at the list of what we have left to do and get so discouraged. My partner has tried to help a couple times but they get stressed out immediately and can't figure out what to do so I told them I would take care of it since, ya know, we are married and I love them.
I am very confused by the paperwork from the credit union where I have a car loan to update my name on the title, but at least they had an online portal to update the account name. I'm going to try to go in and ask for help with the papers for the title. And the DMV said I should update the title before I update the registration. It feels even more complicated because my dad is also on the title and registration, as he cosigned on the loan for me, but not only does he live in another state already but he is also moving next week to a different state. And he isn't very happy about me changing my name, but idk at least he's sort of trying (at least just so I won't stop talking to him and my mom). I'm really hoping this won't cause any other issues with the title update.
My other two banks (checking account for regular use and checking account I use for bills) gave a number to call but the customer support people (after asking "oh did you get married? congratulations ms. xyz" like yes but you're still incorrect stop it) said to go in person to show the new ID and name change documents. And the two credit cards my partner and I have (one in my name and they are an authorized user, the other vice versa) are stressing me out. One of them (Capital One) made me fax them information (who even faxes anymore???), no clue if they got it or not, or when that will be updated. The other, Synchrony Car Care, I need to call and figure out but I've been putting it off because I'm so so sick of being misgendered and deadnamed immediately as soon as they look up my account. Why can't they just have online portals to upload this stuff??
We have appointments for updating our birth certificates (another one where you either have to mail it in and just hope they get it or else go in person) but they just changed both our appointments to a different day when we have to work without asking if the new time would work. So I will have to cancel and reschedule those and they are so hard to get, and apparently they're still working on applications from February. I also want us to get passports, because we are going on a vacation in October that is easy driving distance to Canada and my partner has never been out of the U.S. and I haven't in a long time. So I thought that would be cool. But a) they are so expensive! even for the cards and b) we will need birth certificates for that. So I figured we can just apply for the passports with our uncorrected birth certificates and the name change orders, but I have no clue where my birth certificate is since we moved. So I will have to go get a copy of that before applying to correct it, apply for the passport, then try to correct the birth certificate.
Oh, and I found out once all the banks and credit cards are finally updated I will need to contact all three credit bureaus to make sure my record is updated correctly or I could lose all my credit history.
I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff too, I've done a lot but it just seems like it is never ending and all the major stuff is a pain to change. And so much of it has fees. Fees for new Driver Licenses, fees for correcting the birth certificates, fees for the car title thing (they want a check for $7.50, I don't even have a checkbook), lots and lots of fees for passports.
I need to do other things too, I'm supposed to call to schedule an appointment to talk about potentially getting ADHD meds (yeah gotta say that untreated ADHD is not helping this situation) and call the same place to schedule a different appointment to see a therapist about top surgery (since Kaiser Permanente requires a letter) and I haven't done either thing. I need to work on this apprenticeship thing I'm doing through work, because once it's done I'll get a kitchen manager certification which will be cool and it has been completely free, but I haven't worked on it in weeks. I want to play Zelda BOTW but haven't done that in weeks. I need to start cooking at home more because my partner and I are spending way too much on food but that means planning out meals and going grocery shopping or we end up leaving the store with just snacks. Every spare moment is spent on the name change stuff and/or having minor breakdowns about it and/or taking a nap to avoid dealing with it.
I know it'll be okay in a few more months, I know it will feel so good once everything is finally updated. But right now? I feel like I'm drowning in name change forms.

2024.05.14 18:03 ReportsStack Hair Restoration Market Size, Industry Trends & Growth Analysis from 2024 to 2030

The global hair restoration market is anticipated to exhibit a noteworthy compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 15% from 2021 to 2027, having been valued at USD 4.3 billion in 2020. One of the primary drivers of this growth is the rising prevalence of androgenetic alopecia worldwide. Additionally, the increasing consumption of tobacco and alcohol is projected to further propel market expansion. According to the most recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 14% of adults aged 18 and above reported smoking cigarettes in 2019.

Market Trends:
Technological Advancements: Over the years, there has been a remarkable evolution in the field of hair restoration technologies. Innovations such as robotic hair transplantation systems, which offer precision and efficiency in graft extraction and implantation, have revolutionized surgical procedures. Stem cell therapy and PRP treatments have also gained prominence for their potential to stimulate hair growth and improve overall hair health.
Increasing Demand for Non-Invasive Procedures: As people seek less invasive alternatives to traditional surgical methods, non-invasive procedures like PRP therapy and LLLT have become increasingly popular. These treatments offer advantages such as minimal downtime, reduced discomfort, and lower risk of complications, making them appealing options for individuals looking to address hair loss without undergoing surgery.
Rising Popularity of Hair Transplants: Hair transplant procedures have seen a surge in demand worldwide. This growth can be attributed to advancements in transplant techniques, such as follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT), which result in more natural-looking outcomes. Moreover, the increasing societal acceptance of aesthetic procedures has encouraged more people to consider hair transplants as a viable solution for hair loss.
Expanding Target Demographics: While hair restoration was traditionally associated with older individuals, there's a notable shift as younger demographics, including millennials, become increasingly interested in preventative treatments and cosmetic enhancements. Factors such as heightened social media presence and a desire for aesthetic improvement drive this trend, with younger individuals seeking to maintain or enhance their hair density at an earlier age.
Growing Awareness and Acceptance: With greater awareness about the available treatment options and a reduced stigma surrounding hair loss, more individuals are seeking professional help for their hair restoration concerns. This shift in attitude reflects a broader societal acceptance of cosmetic interventions to address aesthetic issues, contributing to the overall growth of the market.
Market Opportunities:
The hair restoration market presents several compelling opportunities for growth and innovation. With technological advancements driving the development of more effective and minimally invasive procedures, there is a significant opportunity to meet the growing demand for non-surgical solutions. Additionally, expanding target demographics, including younger individuals seeking preventative treatments and cosmetic enhancements, open avenues for market expansion. The rising acceptance of hair restoration treatments, fueled by increased awareness and reduced stigma surrounding hair loss, further contributes to market growth potential. Moreover, emerging markets offer untapped opportunities, driven by factors such as rising disposable incomes, improving healthcare infrastructure, and evolving beauty standards.

2024.05.14 13:53 Comprehensive-Seat67 Onederland!

Began Zepbound in mid-January. In mid-December my highest weight was 257. Following a brief illness I was 247 when I began the meds.
For the first month, I took 2.5, and lost 19 pounds, then moved to 5mg at week 5, and am still on it at week 15. My weight loss which I measure every two weeks began to slow the last 6 weeks. I am stretching out my 5mg awaiting my first 7.5 box.
I have stage 4 cancer for almost 5 years now. I have had chemo every two weeks the past few years in addition to occasional radiation. Four years ago I had emergency brain surgery to remove necrotic tissue left by radiation months earlier. My recovery included weeks/months of steroid use to get better. My weight range, normally 205-220 ballooned up to 257 over time. My fingers, toes, and feet are affected by chemo, making it difficult to exercise in earnest, and it has destroyed my stamina.
In addition to the shots, I have significantly changed my eating habits. I eat approximately 1500 calories a day, no (or very few) carbs, no added sugars, high protein and fruits and vegetables. On Zepbound it has not been a struggle but late in a cycle I do start craving food more.
This morning at my oncologist I weighed 199, which I haven’t seen in 25-30 years. It’s symbolic really, but it made me really happy to see and to accomplish. I have had old clothes of mine boxed up that fit me when I was 210-220 but now fit great again. I am far less winded doing tasks that used to be a struggle, like putting on socks and shoes. I feel great and I know that the weight loss has had positive impacts on my heart, lungs, and overall health, and some of these significant improvements are reflected in my biweekly blood labs.
In short, it has given me back a confidence and a life I had thought would never return, and removed health risks that surely would have affected my cancer and shortened my life.
This medicine, to me, after years of struggling and failing using every diet and strategy I could find, has helped tremendously in many ways that will hopefully keep me alive longer.
I have a second level outside appeal of my insurance to get it covered as I’ve been paying 550/month. For now I will try to get down to 180 before titrating slowly down off the medicine doses and spreading how often I use it (weekly>biweekly>monthly) as recommended by my nutritionist at the hospital.
257 to 199 in 4 months is a godsend and I have felt great throughout with minimal side effects. I figure when I stop the meds I will likely put maybe 20 pounds back on in the 6 months that follow, but hope the changes in eating habits hold (with a weekly cheat day thrown in to keep me honest).
And my cancer is good and controlled currently for anyone who was wondering. 5 years ago I was given a prognosis of 2-5 years. This accounted for 97 percent of similar patients with my cancer. August will be 5 years and I’m still going strong and now enjoying my time more because of the miracle of this drug and its effects.
Good luck to everyone out there working hard to do the same and thanks for reading!

2024.05.13 23:31 bonniebeez First consultation rant

Long time lurker! Like many of you, I’ve been dreaming of a breast reduction since they first came in! My chest has always been a source of insecurity and unwanted attention since I was in middle school. I’m now 31 and sick of having the extra weight on my chest. I’m tired of the neck pain, spending $$$ on bras and swimwear, searching high and low for dresses/clothing to fit my bust…I think im measuring at a 36I but I truly don’t know, I probably haven’t worn a real bra in two years.
I’m at a good place in life where opting for a reduction is tangible. I don’t want kids. I have a decent job with health insurance —Kaiser SoCal . I finally decided to discuss surgery with my PCP and she referred me to plastic surgery. I attended the seminar, and a week later the scheduling office called to schedule a phone consultation. Had the consult today and the surgeon is pushing for weight loss first. I’m 5’4 and weigh 193lbs. I’m technically just under the 34 bmi requirement. But dr said it would be ideal to lose 20lbs.
My weight has gone up in the last 5 years due to a thyroid issue that is now under control. But damn!! I feel like I got my hopes up and now a reduction could be a while away. I still requested to have an in person consultation with the surgeon and will attempt to state my case. Even when I did weigh 170lbs I was still a 34j. I feel so desperate to have these things sized down and it’s a bummer to hear I might have to wait even longer.
Also thinking I will schedule another consultation with a different surgeon for a second opinion.
If anyone has any advice or is feeling just as disillusioned as myself and wants to commiserate 😭

2024.05.11 17:23 BillyGoat1964 DAE feel like they're a black cloud.

I feel like my life is a crappy miniseries. I don't want to go woe is me, but I just want to know how insane my life is or isn't to get perspective.
*My father was abusive until my mom got us away when I was four.
*My 10 year old brother killed himself when I was 9.
*I was in the military for fourteen years. (And all that crap involved.
*I was at the Fort Hood shooting in 2009.
*I was almost court-martialed for refusing an unlawful order.
*I gained TBI, Epilepsy, Mental Health issues, sleep apnea, chronic nerve and muscle pain, multiple (only recently found) broken bones, tinnitus, hearing loss, and I expect fybromyalgia.
*These aggravated a very rare neuromuscular disorder I wound up having inherited.
*So I'm in constant pain, constantly tired, and have high-pitcheded whine that never goes away.
*I and my family are almost entirely immune to painkillers and local anasthetics.
*I've fallen through every benefit crack and don't get fair compensation (please message your congressperson to support the Major Richard Star Act)
*Every financial fall back (5) has failed.
*I reported a suspected child molester in a school I was subbing at and got fired (5/5 textbook signs situation).
*I'm a single father because my autistic 9 year old's mother wants nothing to do with him. Calls maybe once a quarter (only 8 hours away).
Since February,
*A friend was arrested on bull because it's illegal to be black in West Texas and was being set up to be murdered in jail. (Bailed him out, finances fucked)
*I chanced upon a mugging and got involved. A lot of blood. Enough said.
*I was denied all of my applications for medical compensation entitlements. One to two years for appeals to VA and SSDI
*I can't work because I can't guarantee I can make a shift and I can't work full time without burning myself into seizures.
*I pricked my finger on some glass which got infected and required emergency surgery (Saved the finger!)
*I've been hospitalized three times for epilepsy.
*I had appendicitis and emergency surgery about a week ago.
*My landlord is hesitant to renew my lease after deciding to sell despite a verbal agreement six months ago that I was going to renew for a second year. So now I have to hope I can find a new place so my son can stay in school with the first friends he's ever made. After all the college students signed leases for next year. (Before graduation there were plenty of options)
*And I'm getting a CT next week to find out whether the mass in my lungs is cancer or pulmonary hypertension (surgery probably)
I know I'm not the worst off person in the world. I've got great family that love and support me (limited means, so no financial support. I was the one who helped them through rough spots through the years.) My son is amazing. I'll make it work no matter what (figuring out how right now). I just want to know if the sheer number and frequency of my problems are what everyone experiences, or just me. Where do I lie on the spectrum?
Edit: The landlord won't extend the lease. SMH

2024.05.11 04:47 OShaunesssy Book report guy back with the Bryan Danielson 2014 book. Its got some solid dirt and backstage stories on his time in WWE and other companies.

Book report guy back, with the Bryan Danielson book from 2014 and it has some fun backstage stories from his time in WWE!
Solid wrestling book, though not super memorable in my opinion. Some solid detail and dirt like you expect, but honestly it felt like he was holding back.
As always, it's in chronological order as best as I could do that. Hope y'all enjoy!
Bryan is a weird dude, while describing his adolescence, he casually says that he has a lot of weird hypothesis on various subjects, and we should ask Nigel McGuinness about Bryan's theory on how a penis grows. He doesn't expand on this more. He just says that and moves back to talking about his childhood.
Bryan rants a bit about how modern medicine has stunted human evolution because kids who would have died off got to live and reproduce and pass their "defects" onto the next generation. He says that he is one of those defects, sick all his childhood and sick a lot as an adult. He says that his wife Brie is also a "defect" but says she can share the details in her own book if she ever writes one.
When Bryan was 16 years old, he contacted Dean Melanko's wrestling school and was told it would cost him $2,500, but he needed a $500 deposit to secure his spot. Bryan was scared that there were hundreds of people on the waiting list and worked extra shifts at McDonald's in order to get the cash together asap. He put $500 deposit down for a wrestling school he couldn't go to for 2 more years.
Three months before Bryan graduated high school, the Melanko Wrestling School contacted to inform Bryan that the school was shutting down permanently. When Bryan asked for his $500 back, he was told that they no longer had it and that he was SOL.
While watching Monday Night RAW, an ad flashed advertising a 900 number (an old pay-per-minute phone concept that was always a money drain on the caller), and it advertised Shawn Michaels opening up a wrestling school. After an expensive phone call, Bryan was told to pay $20 more for a package to be mailed to him with more info. He did, and when he got the package, it detailed how Michaels wrestling school would cost $3,900 dollars, and it had another 900 number to call if you're interested. Bryan was demoralized and almost didn't call. When he did, though, he was speaking to Shawm Michaels mom, who was helping Shawn run it. Bryan's mom ended up doing all the talking, and the two mothers helped Bryan get set up with a place in San Antonio where the school was. They agreed to let Bryan pay monthly to help him with the finances.
Bryan's first day of wrestling school went exactly like everyone else's first day of wrestling school, with 90% of the students gassed and vomiting. Bryan said out of the 10 guys there, only he and Lance Cade didn't end up vomiting.
Bryan remembers how much Shawn Michaels prioritized his training to Lance Cade. One of the first days, Lance did a basic jump and got so much air that Michaels loudly proclaimed, "I smell money!"
Even though it was Shawn's school, the primary instructor was Rudy Boy Gonzales, a pretty insignificant wrestler from the 80s and 90s. Bryan puts over Rudy as a passionate trainer who motivated him to try harder. Bryan said Rudy would show Bryan anything Bryan saw on a tape and wanted to try.
Bryan says that he and "The" Brian Kendrick became friends immediately as they were both around the same size in the training and had the same level of passion for wrestling.
I always heard that Shawn Michaels wasn't very present for this school, but Bryan tells a different tale, putting Shawn over as someone who was always around and always showing them how to be better.
Bryan does remember some days that Shawn would come in with his sunglasses on, sit at the back of the class, and then dip out early. Bryan didn't realize then that Shawn was in deep with a bad painkiller addiction, and so some days he wasn't as present. Since Bryan grew up with his dad's addiction issues, Bryan says seeing Shawn actually kick the addiction fully put Shawn on a pedestal in Bryan's eyes.
After a couple of months, Shawn was telling the students to start thinking of ring names, and when Bryan couldn't come up with one, he asked Shawn about using his real name. Shawn thought about it for a second before adding "The American Dragon" to it. When Bryan asked why that name, Shawn said it's because Bryan wrestled like a Japanese guy. Bryan took that as a massive compliment.
Bryan didn't tell Shawn, but Bryan initially hated "The American Dragon" name.
Bryan had trouble being expressive and emoting in the ring, so Shawn had him wrestle under a mask.
On October 4th, 1999, Bryan wrestled his first ever match for Shawn Michaels' small promotion, Texas Wrestling Alliance. His opponent was Brian Kendrick (then known as Spanky), and Bryan says as rotton as it was, everyone in the back was super excited for their performance, including Shawn.
Bryan confirms that Kendrick called himself "Spanky" as a masturbation reference.
Shawn arranged for Bryan and Lance Cade to head over to Japan and wrestle for Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling, a bit of a "mudshow" wrestling promotion. Shawn got Bryan and Lance a spot on their card by agreeing to referee a match for the company.
Bryan remembers seeing one guy shove a bottle rocket up his opponents butt and light it off at that FMW show. So yeah, some pretty outlaw stuff.
Bryan describes attempting a moonsalt to the outside of the ring during this Japan tour, but he slipped and cracked his head on the cement. Bryan says, "When I came to, I didn't even know where I was" before describing how he stumbled his way through the match. He notes how concussions have always been a problem for him.
Lance Cade was invited back to FMW later for a 2nd tour, but they didn't ask for Bryan back. That's when Bryan realized that at his size, he needs to get much, much better.
In February 2000, HBK got Bryan, Lance Cade, Brian Kendrick, and another student named Shooter Shultz, a dark match on an episode of Smackdown. He says they planned for a 15-minute tag match before being told last minute that it's been cut down to 6 minutes. Bryan says HBK went and yelled at some people about "his guys" until he got it bumped up to 10 minutes.
Bryan says he got his first documented concussion that match, because they weren't used to a literal ramp, and Bryan cracked his skull on it, doing a pointless dive. He says the WWE doctor backstage told him to just make sure he doesn't fall asleep.
Bryan says when they got backstage after their match, HBK was excited and pumping them up, telling everyone backstage that they should sign all 4 guys immediately. This was on Tuesday, and by Thursday, when WWE still hadn't contacted them, Shawn called them up and threatened to take the 4 to WCW where Kevin Nash would make sure they were signed. Bryan says WWE quickly offered all 4 guys developmental contracts for $500 per week. Bryan says HBK was a great guy to have in your corner.
Shortly after getting the developmental contract, Bryan and Kendrick wrestled a main event ladder match for Shawn's TWA promotion. At the time, Bryan believed that in order to stand out, he would need to wrestle a more daredevil style, so he did some dumb stuff in this match. He did some ridiculous spot that ended with Bryan separating his shoulder. After the match, he took a table bump that legitimately knocked him unconscious for a full minute.
A week or 2 later, the teams had a rematch in a steel cage where all 4 agreed to blade for the first time. Why is he doing this dumb shit right after being offered a WWE contract?
Bryan says those ladder and cage matches made him realize he needed to change his style up and become more mat based. He wouldn't have had a long career if he kept getting hurt. At this point, Bryan has only been wrestling for 6 or 8 months and already suffered maybe 3 concussions. At least 2 for sure.
Bryan Danielson, Lance Cade, Brian Kendrick, and Shooter Shultz all moved to Memphis, where WWE's development primarily opperated out of at the time. William Regal was also a developmental system at the time, trying to show he had kicked his addiction issues.
Memphis Championship Wrestling was the territory they wrestled for, and Bryan remembers wrestling in all sorts of crazy locations like a WalMart parking lot once.
Although Shawn eventually took the mask off Bryan in TWA, the guys at MCW immediately put the mask back on Bryan.
The only time Bryan thought he might get called up to the main roster was in January 2001, when he heard rumors that WWE wanted to start up a cruiserweight division and use Danielson and Kendrick That didn't happen, though, and Bryan never heard another rumor or wiff of him being called up.
In June 2001, someone from WWE talent relations came down to evaluate talent. Brian was let go and told that despite his talent, they just had no plans for him.
In October 2001, Bryan was offered a spot in California based All Pro Wrestling's annual King Of The Indies tournament. Danielson would beat Kendrick in the first round, and after the show, Nick Bockwinkle, who was there watching, loudly told promoter Roland Alexander, "If you don't put that guy over." Bockwinkle said while pointing directly at Bryan, "You're crazy!"
APW head trainer Donovan Morgan was scheduled to beat Bryan in the second round and go on to win the tournament, but promoter Roland made the call to have Bryan win instead.
Bryan says this that while this really pissed Donovan off, what really upset the guy was when Roland offered Danielson and Kendrick trainer positions alongside Donovan.
Kendrick turned the offer down, but Bryan took it and moved to California in January 2002, where he became the head trainer. Though Bryan says he was a lousy trainer and no good at motivating anyone.
On February 2002, Bryan sat down with Gabe Sapolsky, who, after being inspired by the Super 8 tournament Bryan won, wanted Bryan part of his new promotion, Ring of Honor.
Bryan remembers both William Regal and John Laurinaitis said they would try to get Bryan an in to Japan, but both came up short, and both eventually stopped returning Bryan's calls.
In March 2002, Bryan Danielson, Christopher Daniels, and Brian Kendrick got a tryout with New Japan in Santa Monica. Antonio Inoki was actually there to oversee, but he literally had his back turned to the ring while Danielson and Kendrick wrestled. Inoki never bothered to turn around and watch them, instead watching someone stretch, Bryan says. Bryan later heard that New Japan never intended to hire anyone. They just wanted their dojo to look full for press.
After the "tryout," Bryan says that Inoki fell and had to be helped up by a bunch of people. Only the three of them didn't get up to help, with Kendrick saying loudly, "serves the motherfucker right."
Bryan kept making trips to the Santa Monica dojo every couple of weeks until Shinya "Togi" Makabe told him that if Bryan really wanted to be taken seriously, he had to be at the dojo every single day. Bryan took the advice seriously, quit his training job and moved to Santa Monica.
Bryan says he was offered to come tour with New Japan after only training at the dojo full time a few weeks. It was on this tour where Bryan first wrestled in the Tokyo Dome.
In May 2003, Bryan wrestled another Tokyo Dome show, where Bryan, Rocky Romero and TJ Perkins were all pulled aside in the hotel after the show, by Justin Cully. Cully literally slapped each man across the face, saying the slaps are from Inoki, who was disappointed in their proformances that night. Apparently Inoki expected them to wrestle more of a shoot style fight and was very upset.
In March 2004, Bryan won his first title with New Japan, the IWGP Junior Tag titles with Christopher Daniels, and Bryan would spend the majority of the year with New Japan where he wrestled 8 different tours.
Bryan pitched a 3 hour long match to Gabe Sapolsky for a ROH show and is disappointed they didn't go the full 3 hours.
Going into 2005, Bryan expected to wrestle his whole career in New Japan, but was startled when New Japan didn't get his visa renewed for the January tour like they always do. He was told it was a mistake and he would be back for March tour, but again he was told last minute they didn't have a visa for him. In May they contacted him last minute inviting him for a tour, but at a ridiculous pay cut down to $500 per week. Bryan turned the offer down and never went back to that Santa Monica dojo or work for New Japan again. He later heard that he was used as a pawn in a power struggle with the Dojo and New Japan.
In mid-2005 Bryan got an email from CM-Punk about a rumor suggesting that both WWE and TNA were interested in Bryan, Punk and Samoa Joe. Joe would quickly sign with TNA after this and Punk took a developmental deal with WWE. Bryan never heard from either company, and a few months later Gabe Sapolsky told Bryan he wanted to build ROH around Bryan but wanted a promise that Bryan wouldn't just leave to WWE or TNA. Great timing Gabe, because Bryan immediately said yes.
After winning the ROH World title in September 2005, Bryan says his title reign was falling flat until he started being cocky and cutting those "best in the world" promos. Bryan even shades Jericho and Punk a little by saying at the time no one else was saying it and that's why it worked so well for him.
Bryan puts over his matches with Nigel McGuinness in summer of 2006, but points out one in particular he regrets. Nigel had the idea for Bryan to pull Nigel's face into the steel ring post 3 times to get real blood. After 3 attempts and no blood, Nigel yelled, "One more time!" They got blood on the 4th time, and gave Nigel a severe concussion.
Five minutes into an hour long match with Colt Cabana in August 2006, Bryan landed bad on the outside of the ring, where he separated that same right shoulder as before and tore two tendons.
Three weeks later, Bryan defended his ROH title against KENTA of all people, who legitimately targeted his hurt shoulder all match. Then Bryan went to tour Japan with Pro Wrestling Noah where he and KENTA had a rematch.
Bryan would finally drop the ROH title in December 2006 and then take nearly 4 months off. This is the first time he took off since he started wrestling in 1999.
After doing a tour of Japan with Pro Wrestling Noah in April 2007, Bryan was excited to come back to ROH and signed a 2 year contract.
In June 2007, Bryan and Nigel wrestled an extremely physical match that featured a spot where the two traded headbutts. The match didn't air until September that year and in the mean time, the Chris Benoit double murdesuicide happened and the talk of concussions and safety concerns changed completely. The match was not recieved well and Gabe later told Bryan that they shouldn't have aired it at all.
ROH struggled after the Benoit incident and most everyone had to adapt and tone down their styles. Bryan wasn't one of those people, and actually refused to tone down his style. Later in 2007 he would rupture his ear drum exchanging open palm strikes with KENTA and he would suffer a detached retina in a match with Takeshi Morishima. To this day, he has trouble hearing from his left ear and has trouble with vision.
Bryan remembers being super late for a show and not even being able to meet his opponent beforehand. To Bryan's suprise, his opponent, who despite being green, was great to work with and the two had good chemistry. That was a young Jon Moxley.
In Summer of 2008, Shawn Michaels was fueding with Chris Jericho and they incorporated Lamce Cade on Jericho's side, since Shawn trained Lance. Shawn actually reached out to Bryan about also joining the WWE and being involved in the story.
Bryan met with Vince McMahon and remembers how taken back Vince seemed when they first met, and thinks it was because of Bryan's size and how plain he looked. Bryan also didn't sell himself well in the meeting, saying he is "just okay." Head of talent relations John Laurinaitis told Bryan that they would call him, but he never did.
When Bryan returned from a Japan tour in October 2008, he was shocked to find Gabe Sapolsky had been fired by ROH and replaced by Adam Pearce. Bryan details that while Gabe liked to book long shows with everyone on the card trying their hardest to steal the show, Pearce booked shorter shows and had the lower card guys preform well, but not to try everything under the sun to outshine the main event. You can see why Jim Cornette and Adam Pearce get along so well.
Bryan notes how he was fueding with Claudio Castignoli when Gabe was fired, but Pearce immediately ended that program to which Bryan says he and Claudio were disappointed.
After another failed attempt to get into WWE I'm early 2009, Bryan refocused his energies by moving to Las Vegas where he started training in kick boxing and other forms of mixed martial arts.
Bryan trained religiously for months under a former MMA fighter Neil Melanson. Neil is the one who taught Bryan the LaBell Lock.
When Bryan's ROH contract expired in May 2009, he called John Laurinaitis and left a message, but never heard back.
Bryan says in mid-2009, he was talking to Gabe Sapolsky about starting up a new promotion that would become Evolve. Bryan says that Paul Heyman was even involved with these talks.
Brian Kendrick called Danielson up to pitch Danielson coming to WWE as Kendrick's tag partner. Danielson even went and filmed a bunch of promos with Kendrick and fel optimistic. Unfortunately, Kendrick was fired just a few weeks later before any of those vignets aired and that opportunity was gone as well.
Bryan had given up ever going to WWE when John Laurinaitis called him in September 2009 offering him a main roster contract. Bryan was so excited he didn't have to go to developmental, that he would be right on the main roster immediately. Or so he thought, I guess they didn't bother telling Brilyan about NXT at that time, even though it sounds like he was signed with that in mind.
Nigel was also signed at the same time (probably also meant for NXT) but before either man could start, they had to pass WWE medical tests. They asked them both about past injuries, and Bryan just lied, saying he never had anything wrong and was fine. Didn't mention his shoulder being separated twice, or the detached retina, or any concussion. Nigel on the other hand, was very honest about his injuries, including a torn bicep that he didn't get worked on, he just rehabbed it. Nigel figured he was a lock and didn't see the need to lie.
WWE was concerned about Bryan's elevated liver enzymes, and wanted Nigel to get surgery on his bicep before they would sign him. Both guys were wrestling a farewell tour with ROH and both genuinely concerned they wouldn't actually be leaving. In their last match for ROH, Bryan accidentally gave Nigel a concussion, because apparently these guys only know how to wrestle at one speed!
Nigel couldn't afford the bicep surgery and his own doctor was telling him he is fine, so Nigel went to TNA instead. Nigel would only wrestle for another year before his body would break down too far on him and he would retire.
Bryan signed his WWE contract on October 2nd, 2009, nearly 10 years to the day of his debut match. William Regal actually told Bryan, "Your wrestling career came before this and is over now. Anything else that happens now is a bonus."
William Regal came up with the name "Daniel Bryan" for Bryan to use in WWE. Brian tried arguing to Laurinaitis to use his real name and citing John Cena as an example, Laurinaitis simply told Bryan, "We don't do that anymore."
In early 2010, Bryan and seven other guys were told one day about the NXT concept and how they would be used. Bryan found out who his NXT "pro" would be just like everyone else, when WWE posted it on their website. Bryan initially legit wanted Regal as his "pro" but soon realized being paired with Miz gives him a story immediately.
Bryan describes his time in NXT as the most unusual of his career. The "rookies" all legitimately didn't know what was going to happen on any show and everything they did was 100% unscripted and improvised.
The first night in NXT, all the "rookies" were told 15 minutes before the show, that their "pro" would cut a promo on them and they needed to react accordingly. Bryan had no idea that his pro, the Miz was going to tell him to head to the ring and cut a promo on himself, literally telling him on live TV to make the fans care about him. Bryan had no idea what to say, no real direction he was given to go in, and no tome to plan or rehearse. Miz also told him to come up with a catchphrase, and Bryan said he always hated catch phrases.
In the ring, Bryan cut a generic promo where he said he lost his train of thought and was super greatful when The Miz came out to finish the promo off. Bryan didn't know that would happen and Bryan definitely didn't know Miz was going to slap him at the end. Bryan says that later, The Miz confided to Bryan that he was worried Bryan would try to fight him over the slap.
Bryan credits Chris Jericho for getting him over in his first WWE match, and says that neither he, nor Miz knew that Miz was to beat up Brian after the match. Apparently, Miz was informed during the Jericho/Bryan match that he was to attack Bryan after the finish. Wild how much "flying by the seat of their pants" that WWE did with early NXT.
After the show, Jericho told Bryan that Vince was impressed, though he noted how Vince said, "Ugh, but he doesn't even eat meat!"
Bryan describes promo class with Vince as kinda insane to be honest. One time Bryan accidentally spilled a water bottle, and Vince asked everyone how that made them feel about Bryan. Stuff like that.
Bryan says the NXT rookies weren't allowed to use the regular dressing room and had to use some tarped off part of the backstage area.
Bryan notes how most of the NXT season, the NXT rookies never really knew what was going to happen. The 2nd week Bryan lost to Wade Barret and wasn't told that Chris Jericho would be attacking him after the match.
Bryan says his initial storyline with The Miz wasn't a losing streak idea, but something where each loss had meaning and was being built with purpose. Miz was very hands on with each show and helped to put over Bryan and the storyline, but when Miz missed 2 weeks in a row, the producers left in charge basically just turned it into a losing streak storyline, which Bryan says, "never works."
One time on a plane, Ezekiel Jackson asked "which rookie has an isle seat?" Bryan raised his had and Ezekiel said, "Not anymore." Bryan stood his ground and refused, offering his seat to anyone but Ezekiel. Ezekiel got pissed but William Regal came over and chastised Jackson, saying Bryan is like a son to him and how Bryan has more talent in his pinky ginger than Jackson has in his whole body.
Bryan says the NXT "Pros Polls" were legitimate voting done by the pros. That's why Bryan ended up in first place, despite losing every match.
A week after Wrestlemania in 2010, NXT's direction and purpose shifted away from being serious to silly, and Bryan says they were suddenly doing dumb game show competitions and putting over how demoralizing it was.
Bryan says Skip Shepfield (Ryback) was the only rookie taking the competitions seriously and trying to win each game. Sounds on brand for the big guy.
Bryan says he was trying to be humble when asked who should be eliminated and he said himself. He figured since he lost to everyone he didn't have a right to say any of them. Backstage Miz told him he made a mistake and shouldn't have put that perception out there.
A week later they liked the rookies up on TV (an hour before it goes live) and informed Bryan and fellow rookie Michael Tarver that they are both eliminated, without telling them beforehand. Bryan felt this validated all the warnings guys like Colt Cabana and other gave him about WWE.
Right after Matt Striker interviewed him backstage and when asked an insulting question, Bryan snapped and started talking down about "Daniel Bryan" and started to put over "Bryan Danielson!" Bryan says he could hear Vince screaming into Striker's ear piece and apparently Vince threw his headset when Bryan said his real name.
They made Bryan retape the interview without saying that, but still aired his original interview.
Bryan was surprisingly called back to NXT the following week to start a rivalry with Micheal Cole, who had been verbally obliterating Bryan on commentary since Bryan debuted. Bryan seems to be greatful for that program since it kept him on tv and made him confident that he would keep his job.
The RAW after NXT season 1 ended, all the rookies were pulled into Vince's office and told about Nexus and the attack in the main event. They were told not to tell anyone or else they will be fired. Bryan says he even lied to William Regal, when asked why he was dressed to wrestle.
They were supposed to attack John Cena and Rey Mysterio in the main event, because WWE let the fans vote on Cena's opponent and they assumed Rey would get it. Surprisingly it was CM Punk, and Bryan isn't sure how much Punk was told about the angle.
Bryan legit choked Justin Roberts during the melee, leaving red marks on his skin with his tie. Bryan said he doesn't trust non-wrestlers to sell good so he did it for real, with Justin going purple on Tv. Later during the brawl, Bryan was grabbing a cable to choke someone else when a cameraman told him "no choking!" Bryan does note that he thinks Justin Roberts found it pretty cool to be involved. And later Heath Slater grabbed the dismantled ring ropes to choke Cena, but Cena told him as well, "No choking."
Cena told Bryan before the angle, "It's not the hit you do that's important, it's what you do before the hit that matters." This is why Bryan spit in Cena's face before kicking him in the head.
Backstage, Bryan was reprimanded twice, for choking and spitting. Two days later Vince McMahon personally called Bryan to tell him he was let go and apologized to Bryan for it. Bryan, arrogant as all hell, responded with, "Don't apologize, I'll make more money this year on the independents than I would have working for you."
Bryan called John Laurinaitis to clear up details and Laurinaitis was shocked to hear Bryan was fired. Apparently Vince didn't tell anyone, just called Laurinaitis up and asked for Bryan's number. The comment Bryan made about money seemed to get to Vince since Laurinaitis called Bryan back and asked about it. Laurinaitis actually told Bryan that he can start working independent dates immediately if he wasn't on TV.
After working several shows and making good money off merchandise for several weeks, Bryan was shocked when John Laurinaitis called him in August and asked him to come back for a big angle leading into SummerSlam. Bryan sheepishly asked for a raise and made sure he could make all his already planned independent bookings.
Bryan says Nexas should have won at SummerSlam, noting how they went from dangerous to jobbers in one night.
Bryan remembers a taped RAW after SummerSlam where he did an angle with The Miz. When he got backstage Vince was so mad at how it came off that he made Bryan and others go back out there and do it again. It was the first time Bryan ever had to redo something like that and he said he felt humiliated.
Bryan didnt seem to see much value in being US Champion outside of how it would keep him on tv and maybe monthly ppv matches.
At Hell in a Cell 2010 ppv, Bryan had a good match with Miz and John Morrison, but was scolded after that match for a spot where Bryan threw Miz's stoog Alex Riley off the stage where he landed on cameraman. They showed the two guys the footage and accused them of doing it on purpose to get themselves over. Bryan started regretting coming back and really hating his time in WWE.
Bryan was paired with the Bella Twins in a storyline he hated, that was based on the Twins confusing the word "vegan" for "virgin" and competing to sleep with Bryan. Despite how bad that storyline was, Bryan and Brie would develop a relationship and would start dating in February 2011.
Sheamus was given a choice of Wrestlemania opponents that year between Rey Mysterio and Daniel Bryan, and Sheamus chose Bryan. Bryan was greatful but concerned Sheamus chose wrong and their match would be cut but Sheamus wasn't worried at all. A week before Mania they were informed their match was on the pre-show at a meeting with literally every other wrestler. Bryan says Sheamus buried his face in his hands and remembers how Rey Mysterio got on the card in a match with Cody Rhodes. Bryan says Sheamus picked the wrong guy.
Bryan got some details in his book messed up where he talks about Miz winning the WWE title off Cena at Wrestlemania 27 and he talks about how Miz was WWE Champion going into Over The Limit ppv 2011, but Miz lost the title by then. It's notable because he says he pitched hard for a "Rocky style" storyline where he would challenge Miz for the WWE title at the Over The Limit ppv.
Bryan says the 2011 Smackdown Money in the Bank winner wasn't decided until the day of the show but it was always between Wade Barret, Cody Rhodes and Bryan. He says despite winning the briefcase, his tv time tricked down and eventually he was spending weeks off tv, until he was randomly inserted into the World title program between Mark Henry and Big Show in late 2011.
Bryan was being left at home and off shows, even watching Survivor Series 2011 from home and was suprised when WWE had him come to the December TLC ppv show, last minute. The day of the show he was told he was cashing in and winning the title and the only direction Vince McMahon gave him was to act like he won the superbowl, so that's where Bryan's over the top celebration came from. He didn't even tell his girlfriend Brie Bella about the plan and says she was shocked when he came backstage afterwards.
The only direction Vince gave Bryan as champion is to celebrate every appearance like he won the lottery, saying, "there is no too over the top here."
Bryan said he adapted his "Yes" chants from MMA fighter Diego Sanchez who was celebrating in a similar way at the time.
Bryan's favorite moment from that first world title run was the closing sequence in the 2012 Elimination Chamber match with him and Santino Marella.
Bryan originally expected he and Sheamus to get 15 minutes or so at Wrestlemania for their match, but was shocked when Chris Jericho told him he heard it would be 8 minutes, including the pre & post match stuff. A week later Arn Anderson confirmed to Bryan that he would lose a 1-move match, dropping the world title to Sheamus at Wrestlemania that year. Bryan and Sheamus were both pissed, to say the least.
Sheamus expressed concern that the short match would turn fans against him as a new champion. Smart man.
Bryan says a bunch of guys came up to him after his Mania loss and were pissed at what they did to Bryan out there. Great Khali even came up and told Bryan that it was bullshit in his broken English.
Originally Sheamus was planned to move into a fued with Alberto Del-rio right after Mania, but the crazy crowd support for Bryan forced them to extend they story another month. Bryan says his Extreme Rules ppv match with Sheamus in 2012 is one of his favorites. Mine too!
Bryan acknowledged the weird booking of Punk as champion in 2012, noting how heels would face John Cena, lose, then be sent to face Punk with no momentum. Interesting take on the situation.
Bryan mentions how when he and Punk fueded in 2012, they never got main event spots outside of non-televised events. One time at a house show, Bryan and Punk veered too far into comedy and after the match John Cena chastised Bryan by pointing out that they didn't wrestle a "main event style" match. Apparently the next house show, Cena was moved into the main event spot with Punk/Bryan being before the intermission. An enraged Punk went and yelled at people until he got his main event spot back. This time, no comedy spots were done and they stayed the main event for the circuit.
Bryan had brand new, edgier gear made up prior to Money in the Bank 2012 and didn't tell anyone backstage. He wore shorts over his trunk and hid the jacket until he had to go out. When he got to the ring, the ref told him to lose the jacket, because I guess Vince was in gorilla position freaking out over how Bryan looked. Dean Melanko was the producer for the match, and Bryan felt bad when Vince blamed him for allowing Bryan to wear it.
Bryan was originally planned to wrestle Charlie Sheen at SummerSlam 2012 in a celebrity match, but Charlie "bailed" as Bryan put it.
Bryan was trying to be "Mr Small Package" by winning matches with Small Package and then boasting about how he has an "inescapable small package!" It didn't get over.
Bryan thought his anger management vignets with Kane and Dr Shelby were going to be terrible.
The only reason they stopped using Dr Shelby is because he had limited days off from his regular teaching job.
Bryan and Kane really wanted their team name to be "Team Friendship" and they even had shirt ideas but Vince let the fans vote and he always kept those votes legit, so their team name was "Team Hell No" which Bryan brings up a good point about. He said as a team primarily appealing to kids, a name with "Hell" in it would be hard to sell merchandise to those kids.
The plan was to break up their team so they could have a good heated fued together, but they were so popular that they kept teaming for 9 months.
Bryan says his first good Wrestlemania experience was in 2013 when he teamed with Kane.
One night after Mania in 2013, when Bryan tagged with Kane and Undertaker to face The Shield, Vince McMahon told Bryan that he would pay him several thousand dollars if he could get Undertaker to hug Bryan in the ring. After the show Bryan got on the mic and tried his hardest to get the hug but couldn't quite do it.
Bryan says that both he and Kane agree that teaming together was some of the most fun in either man's career.
Bryan was scheduled to win the biggest match of his career up to that point, he would be beating Randy Orton clean on RAW. Bryan would botch a dive that left both arms nunb and him unable to stand. He got feeling back in one arm but eventually the doctor called the match off. Backstage Bryan started screaming at Triple H for calling the match and called him a hypocrite for doing so, citing his own injuries in matches. At one point Orton tried to calm Bryan down, but Bryan snapped at him and Orton started yelling too. Brie got Bryan away to calm down, but when Vince came to talk to Bryan, the shouting started again. Much later, William Regal advised Bryan to apologize to both Vince and Triple H, to which Bryan took his advice. The next week, Bryan would get his win over Orton and he says that that drama over everything made that win matter more.
An MRI showed that one of Bryan's disks was pushing into his nerves and eventually he would need surgery. With his momentum starting to rise, Bryan opted to put surgery off.
John Cena pitched facing Daniel Bryan at Money in the Bank 2013 ppv. When Vince asked why, Cena said because it's the biggest match they could do at that time. Vince ended up agreeing, but deciding that it belongs at SummerSlam that year instead!
As proud as Bryan is of the build to and match with Cena at SummerSlam, he acknowledges that the ppv didn't do good numbers, nor did the house show business the following 2 months when Bryan was the main protagonist. He thinks a lot the the Authority promos on him stemmed from some truth.
Bryan isn't satisfied with the quality of matches he was putting out in the latter half of 2013 amd he specifically calls out the series of bad finishes he had with Randy Orton in ppv main events. From the fast counting crooked ref, to that terrible one with Big Show knocking everyone out, and then to Shawn Michaels betraying Bryan at Hell in a Cell ppv.
Bryan initially thought he was getting a Wrestlemania match with Shawn Michaels after that Hell in a Cell finish, but after talking with HBK, it was clear that was never in the cards.
Bryan feels he failed as a main eventer in the 2nd half of 2013, regardless of match quality. He didn't move business and that's all that matters.
The Slammy's were fan votes and Vince didn't think Bryan would win and almost laughed when Bryan asked him what he should say if he does win. Vince said, "whatever you want." I wish I could have seen Vince's face when Bryan won later that night.
When Bryan started fueding with Wyatt Family in late-2013, Bryan was pitching for him to be "brainwashed" and join the group. He suspects that his rising popularity in early 2014 is what convinced WWE to have Bryan turn on Bray and leave the group. At the time, Bryan was hoping to stay with the group and be involved in the planned Cena/Wyatt Wrestlemania program since Bryan had no plans for Mania at that time.
Bryan says he was disappointed when Vince told him he would be facing Sheamus again at Wrestlemania 2014. No disrespect to Sheamus, but Bryan felt he belonged in a higher spot.
Bryan felt bad for the way Rey Mysterio was boo'd at the 2014 Royal Rumble.
When Punk quit WWE after Rumble that year, Bryan remembers how plans didn't change too much for a few weeks, and he assumes Vince expected Punk to come back and for Batista to win the crowds over, and neither happened.
Triple H was being vocal about wanting to face Bryan at Mania that year, but Bryan was trying to not get his hopes up since he had seen Triple H try and fail to get his ideas on screen.
Bryan and Brie only agreed to let Total Divas shoot their wedding, because Total Divas agreed to pay for the whole wedding! Hard to say no to that!
Bryan is very satisfied with his matches at Wrestlemania 30 and says he was so focused between matches that he missed Undertaker losing to Lesnar. He heard the ring bell and looked up at the monitor in shock. He says they cameras should have filmed the guys and girls in the back because their reactions were wild, apparently.
Five days after Wrestlemania 30, Bryan and Brie got married, but 2 days after their honeymoon ended, Bryan's dad unexpectedly passed away at the age of 57. Bryan was devastated and described how he was crying still as he was writing about it.
The book ends on a complete downer, very unlike most other wrestling books. Bryan says that as long as he wrestled when asked if everything he was missing or sacrificing was worth it, Bryan always said yes. He assumed he would have more time when he was done and could catch up on what he missed, but his dad is gone and Bryan openly admits that it wasn't worth it. If he could, Bryan would change a lot of his decisions if it meant more time with his dad.
He says he is still wrestling though because he literally doesn't know what else to do or what comes after. This is especially depressing 10 years later, when Bryan is still wrestling despite having started a family of his own. I hope he doesn't regret any time missed with his daughter.
He ends the book by describing the last time he saw his dad, on Christmas in 2013, where his dad dressed up as Santa. Fuck. I'm sad now.

2024.05.11 04:45 OShaunesssy Book report guy back, with the Bryan Danielson book from 2014 and it has some fun backstage stories from his time in WWE!

2024.05.10 00:08 Corduroytigershark Anyone gone through bariatric surgery?

I am currently going through the orientation to potentially get weight-loss surgery, but I am concerned about how ARFID will affect me after the surgery.
Currently, I don't have an appetite much at all. I get hungry, but I don't have any cravings (at least not for healthy foods, all I want is sugar and chocolate) and a lot of foods I normally like don't look appealing.
Has anyone with ARFID gone through this type of surgery?

2024.05.08 20:34 LittleDragonQueen 36F SB seeking SD in Cincinnati, OH

About me:
I love to read, swim, cook, play video games, and travel. love learning new things. I am submissive and love to please the one I'm with, showering them with affection. Touch and acts of love are my love languages both giving and receiving.
My big dream is to travel and see things, to have that freedom some day. I really want to see Ireland, Italy, and the Caribbean specifically. But traveling to anywhere and learning about a new culture is always amazing no matter the destination.
I am down over 220 lbs in 4 years with stubborn fat and lose skin left over afterwards. Anyone willing to help towards removal surgery would be a godsend.
I work part time for a cable provider as a sales consultant. The other two days a week I go to the flea market and sell soap that I make homemade as a side business. I do the business with my sister and truly enjoy it, I could totally see myself doing it full time if it were ever to take off or if I could find an investor. I find it really relaxing and fun to make the stuff.
Fun facts: I have a tongue ring, 11 tattoos, I love animals, I get tipsy 5x faster then your average person so I avoid drinking for the most part, and I absolutely adore squishmallows. Also I have a shopping addiction so if shopping was included in an arrangement I'd pretty much be over the moon happy with it.
About my match:
Something real with a spark and passion. Ideally I am submissive, and old fashioned, so I do enjoy a dominant successful provider. I am wanting something that is actually real, not just business or a trade off. I want someone who genuinely craves me, my time, and my attention. I want to have someone who has me eager to see them, dying to get to be near them, and longing for that touch. I can't do anything without some kind of feelings being involved it's just not how I operate.
I am wanting to have cosmetic changes so anyone that is okay with that kind of stuff would be someone I'd vibe with as I have issues from extreme weight loss and I don't want to be judged for wanting to fix them. I am into the curvy bimbo look, maybe not to the extremes but I definitely like the proportions of some of the pics I've seen. I also see the appeal of the headspace and of knowing a guy wants to ravage you and I kinda want to be able to have that power over people if I am truly honest.
Someone who doesn't mind that I'm in an open relationship and can work with my schedule.
I am very open to someone if they would like to consider sponsoring my soap business as an investor alongside an arrangement or as part of it. I definitely need assistance so I can get out from under debt, improve my credit, and eventually I hope have a real store front down the road.
Features I look for: average to tall height, nice eyes, good sense of humor, powerful aura, ability to change my life.

2024.05.08 01:49 ethiofreak Why is my insurance rejecting a surgery claim they already paid for?

My wife was suffering with severe acid reflux for over two years. It affected her quality of life, her job, and her ability to speak for a long time. It hurt to see her suffering so much. Every morning & night she couldn't sleep, eat, or talk because the pain was so bad. So, after meeting with several dr's they confirmed the root cause of the problem. She had a severe hiatal hernia that created a large gap in her esophagus. She had the surgery in January and we paid the bill in February, it was well over 100k for the surgery. Insurance paid like 99% of it, we paid 3.5k. My wife's been back to her normal self, eating food she enjoys, back to her standard quality of life, and she's not experiencing any more pain! We got a letter in the mail saying they rejected our claim because "there is no proof or not enough proof that it improves health". It was reviewed by a pediatric dr which boggles my mind that that's allowed.. What do I even do? We already paid our portion of the bill! I'm at a loss, I'm anxious, worried because we've been trying to get a house this year and this may screw it up.. I don't know what to do and where to go from here. How can they reject a claim 4 months after the fact and after they already paid it?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: First off, thank you all for your help and advice. This is definitely a scary letter! I called both the hospital and physician’s office about this. The hospital received both insurance and our payment, all good there. Her surgeon, unbeknownst to us, already filed the appeal yesterday claiming it is in fact medically necessary and it does improve health. They’re telling me I can disregard this letter and any associated EOB’s for the time being. I still don’t know if we’ll end up paying anything but I’m thankful he’s fighting for us too!

2024.05.06 19:46 vdavila83 Pre-Surgery Curiosities

Hey guys!!! I recently expressed to my doctor that I’m interested in the gastric sleeve. Naturally, she is trying to talk me out of it by losing naturally. I’ve tried diets several times, and it just never seems to work out. I am scheduled for my orientation class on 5/21. Does anyone with Kaiser know approximately how long it takes to get a surgery date once you take the class. I know there will be a weight loss requirement before I get it, but I’m just trying to get an idea.
Also, if anybody can think of any questions that I should ask during my class, please let me know.
Thanks in advance! I’m sorry extremely nervous, but looking forward to this. :)

"It's still under construction, see?" She pointed at the construction equipment, and now that Morsh squinted she could see that the far corner was still unfinished. She grunted unhappily and started to approach the small rooftop landing pad.
"Fleet car 117, please go to visitor parking," traffic control spoke through the fleet car's speakers, and the heads' up display highlighted the part where another officer car was already headed toward. Probably Amilita.
"This is Nataliska of house Rakten, we have business with the occupant of that patient. We will be setting down on the roof."
"Helipad is not for visitors," the accented trade shil repeated herself. "Please do not go."
Nataliska leaned forward and flicked off the comms, and Morsh guided the fleet car to the 'Helipad' and set down next to the already-empty ambulance.
She hopped from the car and sprinted to the main door. "Come on." The door from the roof was locked, however, and when Morsh gave it a more firm tug, it popped the handle clean off.
"Now what?" Nataliska asked, but before Morsh could even think to answer the girl was already in motion, thin and dexterous fingers finding a part of steel in the ripped apart internals to peel back, the latch opening with a click.
"Nice work," she complimented her ward for her persistence.
She may have celebrated too early, because they now found themselves lost in the bowels of the alien building. Nataliska seemed to move with a purpose, though, pressing a button, and a lift opened.
Going down a couple floors in a box that felt entirely too shaky for Morsh's liking opened, only to find themselves immediately lost as the doors opened. The staff milling about wore various colored uniforms, probably meant to indicate something about their speciality, though Morsh saw no bloodstains or helpful lettering to guide the unfamiliar.
"Where to?" Nataliska asked, uncertainly.
Morsh was increasingly sure that hospitals served a secret universal purpose: To hide away anyone suffering in a maze that only employees could solve. Whether on-board the depths of a warship, a space station, planetside on an embattled world, or even in an alien-constructed, retrofitted building, she always got lost whenever she found herself in one.
"Hey, I can't read this stuff," Morsh waved a hand at the alien lettering and raised her omni-pad, letting it translate what text it saw. It took a couple times of double-checking, counting the third one from the top. "This one says 'child-medicine.' Is Elias still considered a child?"
"Pediatrics?" Nataliska sounded the human word out.
Morsh squinted at her omni-pad, and then back at the sign. "I think so?"
The bodyguard loathed the insurgency for the delays they'd caused. Had it not been for them, then she wouldn't be stuck navigating these hallways, and the new hospital next door would be finished already. At least something about this place would be familiar.
"I think we follow these colored lines on the wall. It's the same color as the sign."
"Alright," it was as good an idea as any, and they went around the corner to find a waiting room.
"Let's try one of the attendants?" Nataliska suggested, striding forward before Morsh could ask her to wait. The woman behind the desk had the sagging skin of someone from a high-gravity world, though at least they had the tendency to be stocky, but strong. Yet she seemed almost too round for her chair, bloated underneath the strange mottling that ran up her exposed arms and lower neck. She frowned from behind her thick-framed glasses at the pair of approaching shil'vati. Morsh sensed some vague hostility, but the woman certainly also seemed utterly impotent, so she filed it away as a triviality and instead took the room's surroundings, gauging the others in it. No one in the waiting room seemed particularly dangerous, though they were all keeping their distance.
Nataliska leaned forward. "Hi," she used the human greeting, though Morsh realized she'd forgotten to activate her translator and missed the next bunch of words. By the time she'd gotten it online, she'd missed everything except "Elias Sampson."
The blank stare returned showed no more understanding than Morsh had of what Nataliska had just said.
"I need to see Elias Sampson," Nataliska tried again. "He was taken here. He was hurt badly. He's my friend, and I need to check in on him." She tapped hurriedly on her omni-pad, and then smiled, pointing at a photo of him she'd taken. The woman glanced at the screen with disinterest, and then huffed.
"Try the Emergency Ward, or maybe surgery," was the only answer they got before the strangely-shaped woman started to rise from her desk.
"Where's that?" Nataliska's patience was obviously running thin.
"East wing. * " The woman finished standing from her desk and waddled away from the glass partition before either of them could ask where the 'East Wing*' was.
"Thank you!" Natalie said, always polite.
"Now what?"
"We find the East Wing." Natalie glanced at the window. "It's...uh...evening, so, away from there. That means..." she pointed, and started down the hallways.
Morsh shook her head. This felt like it was getting them nowhere. Worse, they quickly found dead-ends where they couldn't proceed through without a pass of some sort- and no one seemed to come along the particular hall that they'd gone down so they could follow them inside to get further east. Nataliska had insisted Morsh not put a shoulder to the locked door- avoiding incidents seemed to be a priority.
Eventually a nurse wearing blue scrubs rounded the corner, and started to double-back when Morsh decided she'd had enough of being made to wander aimlessly and flanked the human, cutting off her retreat.
Nataliska brought her omni-pad back up again, pointing at the picture. "Elias Sampson- sorry, I should start over. Do you know where surgery is, or perhaps the emergency room? East Wing?"
The nurse studied the picture for a few seconds longer than the secretary had, and then looked at Nataliska for a couple more, as if thinking about what to say in response. "Ask her to guide us," Morsh suggested, the translator speaking her own words back out for her before she shut off its speaker. "That way if she's thinking of misdirecting us, at least she's wasting her time, too," she added.
"Why would she do that?" Nataliska asked.
*"I'm sorry, are you next of kin or family?" *The nurse asked dutifully.
"Well, no, but I'm a noblewoman, and he was hurt badly. I ask that you aid us. It's very important that I'm there when he wakes up."
The corners of her mouth dipped slightly lower. "I see. Are you listed as his emergency contact?"
"Please. It's important."
"Of course it is. I'm going to have to ask your name."
"Nataliska of house Rakten. I'm right here-" she began scrolling through the photos, until she found one of the two of them side-by-side. "See?" This time the nurse didn't even bother looking.
"Sampson...tell you what, wait here, and I'll go check the emergency contact list-"
The nurse's indirect refusals to give any straight answers only ended when their demands were joined by the huffing arrival of the Lieutenant Colonel.
"Sorry. I was just setting up a place to work from when I saw you walk by," she said, panting the words out, and gauging the situation.
Morsh was tired of hearing the girl repeat herself in asking, and decided to speak the inevitable question for her. "Where's Elias? We've been trying to find him."
Amilita turned to the nurse they'd cornered, and activated her translator. "Please show them to the patient's room. I'm General Amilita, Acting commander of the Delaware Garrison." The woman paled slightly, and Morsh switched off her translator halfway through repeating Amilita's translator's English back into Shil'vati.
"Of course, ma'am," the woman said in trade shil'. And just like that, the three of them were off with a guide, though Amilita peeled off the group after only a few dozen steps.
What a strange inversion it was when a combined noblewoman's title and presence of a bodyguard couldn't get the respect a military uniform apparently commanded here.
"This is the room," Nataliska relayed for the Nurse, who immediately scampered off. The door opened, revealing a nurse who was as startled to see them as the first nurse had been, and Nataliska started drilling her with rapid-fire questions. The new Nurse was surprised that the shil'vati girl was fluent in English, and answered each question quickly, if shortly. Morsh switched back on her translator, but it was already too late to catch most of it.
When Nataliska had apparently finished her questions, Morsh let the nurse slip past and leaned in. "So? What'd you learn?"
"He's 'stable,' whatever that means, and has been sedated for his own good." She sighed. "I guess I'll go into the room, and talk with the doctors attending. Maybe they know when he can be woken up." She took a second to think. "I wonder what machines they used to use to bring people out of comas." Then she smiled a little bit- the first one she'd had in a while. "I wonder if they just slapped or shook their patients? Or was it a really loud noise? Do you think there's a prescribed one that they'd always use?"
She tried the handle, the question clearly on the tip of her tusk.
Except there was no one to ask. The room had been left empty, with just Elias laying there unconscious. The boy had filled out since the early days, when the newly-minted 'Natalie' had confessed she'd found a boy to finally talk and sit alone with, then proudly showing off a photo she'd snuck. He'd looked almost malnourished, waifish then. Now, laying still in the cot, despite all the lean muscle he'd put on through maturing, he looked no less vulnerable. The various faces he wore with such an intense focus and force of will were gone, leaving a vacant expression she'd never thought she'd see him wear. The planet could think what it wanted about boys and what they were supposed to be- the reality was they were still boys. No amount of arguing would ever make her feel anything other than a twist in the gut, and a feeling that something had gone horribly wrong.
The staff hadn't even a doc bot left in the room to keep an eye. There were distant squeaks of shoes on the shiny surface that humans loved to floor their interiors with, muted conversations drifting down the hallways, but only a few people milling about. Whatever the doctors had done, they felt they'd finished their work and cleared out.
"So, what now?" Morsh asked.
"We could wait?" Nataliska suggested, trying to hide how nervous she was. "I mean, maybe he'll wake up on his own? Or they're getting one of those machines I saw on TV."
"What machine?" Morsh asked.
"Well, when the person's asleep, then someone gets a machine that makes a whining noise." Suddenly, Natalie got quiet.
"And then what?"
"...then they rip open the guy's shirt, and uh, it's not what you think! They put their hands on it- his chest- the part where his heart is, I mean. And they put these metal pads on him, and someone says 'clear' and then he wakes up with a jolt."
"Uh-huh. And they just put this on TV, for anyone to see?"
"It's not like that! It's a legitimate medical procedure!"
"The nurse didn't say anything at all about that? Like, not even a rough idea on if that's what they're going to do, or when they're going to be back?"
Nataliska shrugged helplessly. "No, not really. I could wait with him? Or at least keep an eye over him, and ask anyone that comes by."
"Might be smart," Morsh agreed. "I'll stand guard. Want me to close the door? I know he doesn't like me all that much ever since the, well, you know. Everything."
"Thanks," she said. "I'm just worried about being seen alone with a boy behind a closed door."
"Come on, it's you two. Whatever went on, no one else knows about you crying in your room for days on end. I'll leave the two of you to chat alone and sort things out."
"Thanks, Morsh. You're the best. It's fine though, you can leave the door open for now, and I want to stay here, just in case." She walked in and pulled the chair up alongside the bed and gave the bodyguard a slight smile.
The bodyguard felt the minutes tick by. It bothered her that he'd been dumped there without so much as an attendant, with all manner of wires and human machines watching him in their stead. Pathetic. At least the room had an actual door and glass windows, curtained for privacy. It seemed they were very short-staffed, but that did keep her job of watching for threats simpler, and having to defend just the one point of entry made life easy. She idly tapped her pocket to make sure she still had that crucial object before an idea worked its way into her head.
She knocked on the doorframe, and Nataliska raised her head from her omni-pad.
"Kid, you're okay to take over guarding him for a bit?" Morsh asked.
"Huh?" She asked, standing and coming up to the door.
Morsh handed Nataliska her pistol. "I've gotta take a leak." The eyes of a nurse who wandered by were as large as saucers at the sight of the weapon, and she hurried her footsteps away from the pair.
"Uh...yeah," Nataliska answered, fumbling the grip for a moment. She started to stare at it and look down the barrel before Morsh pushed the tip down at the floor, making eye contact.
"That part faces whatever you want to kill," Morsh reminded her young ward, feeling a sudden sense of unease about leaving the same girl she'd just chewed out over acting before thinking alone with a pistol. One that Morsh clearly needed to actually teach her to use, too.
"How do I...?" Nataliska asked nervously, almost fumbling the pistol as she tried to hold it out for her bodyguard to inspect.
"The safety's on. This button here. Actually, you know what? Here. Take the knife. Don't use it unless you have to." The swap was quick, and Morsh felt the reassuring feel of her custom laspistol on her thigh once it had settled back into its quickdraw holster.
"Um..." the girl hesitated. Morsh prayed she didn't need to tell her which end to stick a threat with. Then again, common sense with nobles was like oxygen. The higher up someone went, the rarer it was to find.
"Just for a second. If you need me, press the panic button on your omni-pad, and hold them off with the knife until then. You understand?"
"I understand," she echoed, inching closer to the door, as if already imagining someone trying to sneak past her.
Morsh felt the unfamiliar bulge shift in her pocket as she made her way down the hall. The old human hospital with alien writing on the wall still threatened to misdirect her from the point where she'd seen a particular sign. It took only a couple turns she'd committed to remembering before she came across it again. She pushed open the double-doors and took in the enormous room, pleased with herself that it was almost certainly what she'd hoped it would be.
The small technician lady stood from behind her desk, itself separated with its own wall. Morsh let out a low whistle from between her tusks. "Whew, that is a big machine you have in there." She squinted exaggeratedly. "Not a lot of wiggle room for a patient, though," she muttered as if in contemplation. "Gotta have some courage to crawl in there and be treated here, I gotta admit. Say, Doc, you know I left my knife behind. And this thing here- well, let's just pretend it's not here at all," she tapped her holster, before fishing out and tossing the omni-pad she'd pickpocketed off Amilita into the center hole, watching in fascination how its course changed before sticking fast to one of the inner walls, defying gravity. "So, why don't you turn on that machine for me? It's that magnetic...uh...thing."
She glanced down at the workstation the woman was at, and noted the various pieces of metal arrayed on the desk. Her laspistol should be safe here- or at least better here than in Nataliska's shaky hands.
"Magnetic Resonance Imager, and I think that would be a very bad idea. It would-" she eyed Morsh with increasing alarm as the bodyguard strode closer until she leaned over the woman, leering.
"I didn't ask what you thought."
Swallowing nervously, the much smaller woman started trying to explain what it was in the crudest trade shil, stumbling over her words.
"Didn't ask what it was, either, I said turn it on." The little woman's babbling ceased, and she quaked where she stood. "Do it, or trust me, you'll need more than whatever it can do for you."
The woman finally did as she was told, and the omni-pad began to promptly bang around the inside, until with a final, terrifying crack it went silent, and a warning chime sounded.
The woman let out a wail of distress and then stared balefully up at Morsh in a very: See? I told you so! gaze, as if missing the entire point. Morsh only let out a low whistle after she pulled open the door. Some people just could not be shown a good time or anything neat. The omni-pad was now stuck fast to the inner wall of the circular device, having punched a hole right through the plastic. "Do you have any idea how much that cost? This hospital has one of those, and parts for it- I don't even know where-"
Morsh pried the omni-pad loose, having to brace herself against it and pull with all her strength and then tested to see if it would switch on, noting with some satisfaction that it was certainly wiped of whatever it contained. She'd held corpses of comrades with more life left in them.
"Bill us."
Besides, how useful could the machine still be in this day and age? Morsh shook her head. Humans could keep their sentimentality and attachment to outdated tools. She'd prefer a doc bot any day to the confinement chamber.
She came back to find the situation outside Elias's room more or less as she'd left it and patted her ward on the shoulder after retaking possession of the knife with a genuinely relieved sigh.
"Sorry about that, I've been holding it in since I broke orbit. No visitors?"
Nataliska shook her head. Morsh sighed. "Then we're probably going to be here a while. But you know who isn't, and I suggest you go settle things with? Amilita."
"But, what if he-"
"I'll message you immediately," she promised. "Now, go, before he does wake up and you're still not back."
That got the girl moving, Morsh noted with some satisfaction.

Settlement

The hospital smelled. None of the scents were familiar to her, some of them were even superficially pleasant, and she imagined she might even enjoy the cleansers or aerosol sprays used to disinfect if she shut her eyes to relieve them from the long, harsh blue lights and imagine a breeze or spring. Oh, to close one's eyes and pretend the world isn't what it is.
Natalie was reluctant to leave Elias's side but Morsh was right. She had to talk with Amilita.
It took a few tries, but she eventually was directed to the same hallway she'd been in before. She stopped at the open doorway to see that the giantess had taken over an empty storeroom and made it into a temporary office headquarters, resignedly signing off orders from her wrist-pad in rapid-fire motions. The rings under the old family friend's eyes were visible even through the semi-transparent image of her wrist-pad. When she shifted her focus and noticed the young noblewoman snooping at the threshold, Amilita stood to greet her before then ducking her head in a sign of respect and submission to the authority Natalie wielded, something Amilita had only done for her mother.
"I hear Morsh has been busy protecting the boy's privacy." The words were offered plainly and left for Natalie to determine how they were meant. She'd had enough of assuming the better of people after today.
"That's right, I stationed Morsh there. I hope that isn't going to be a problem."
Amilita put her hands up, showing off the white bandages taped around her knuckles as fresh flesh grew back underneath, "No, not at all. I've even requested the boy's medical files not be updated to reflect his recent visit here." With her other hand, she tapped a small stack of printed out papers.
Natalie blinked at the news. "Why?"
"His death would have been framed by Goshen as a suicide," she muttered.
"What? How? That's ridiculous. He was kidnapped!"
"I know," Amilita poked a finger at the gauze to again emphasize what she'd done at the sight. "Perhaps I ought to explain how I found him. He was hanging by his belt, dangling from a pipe. When I carried him out, he was barely breathing from asphyxiation and with marks on his neck. From what I can tell, they used the doc bot to check the airway and noted no spinal fractures. What matters is that these notes only include injuries, not their context." Natalie already knew from his treatment at school that he'd have a history of bruising, swelling, and cuts. Injuries she now understood why he'd wanted to treat on his own, rather than potentially hand information over. As she considered the implications, Amilita cleared her throat, lowering her hand. "What have you heard about when boys attempt suicide, Nataliska?"
"Uh, well..." she didn't want to appear ignorant, but she knew it wasn't exactly common. "I hear they choose quiet methods? I guess it's so wives won't try and stop them?"
"Usually it's described as a cry for help. When a boy threatens it, it's as a desperate gambit to force his terrible wives to release him. The women either lose him and are forever known and outed as husband-killers and neglectful. Or they take him to the hospital and at least avoid the 'boy-killer' charges. Threatening suicide is the final move of the truly desperate."
"Wasn't he desperate, though?" She felt she was missing something.
"What do those women who were in his life say in their defense, though? And remember, the medical records will leave Goshen out. It's just his injuries that are left in."
Natalie blinked. "Well, I guess they don't just confess?"
The officer's tone turned weary and she seemed to deflate some at Natalie's lack of answer. "I don't know if it's because I've been spending too much time around the wrong people, or if I'm suddenly sensitive to it after having a son. People always say about boys who attempt suicide: 'He couldn't handle it.' That he couldn't take the prospect of a life of housework and the pressures of fatherhood, which is always said to be easy. That, or he felt he couldn't compete with the pressures of acting like and being treated as a woman if he had a job." Amilita bit her lip. "I don't want that said about Elias- they won't know about the circumstances of the kidnapping, or anything else."
The young noble bristled, some heat entering her voice, "The trial should be easy enough to point back to. It doesn't matter if they dig it up."
"You can't appeal decisions on admittance or acceptance to a future job if they never even tell you they dug so deep into your past in the first place. I worry that if I step in and demand the circumstances be included, it'll be so unusual that people will still doubt him. They'll think I pulled strings. If you do it, they'll think you're doing the same, all to protect him. See the problem? We can't add it. So it is for the best that this stays off his record completely. We made sure we're not burying him physically, and now I'm making sure we're not burying his future." She inhaled, and then looked Natalie in the eyes. "I'm fine with the only record being in your hands, holding it in trust for him to decide if he wants to re-enter it into his medical history or not." She broke her eye contact and tapped the small stack of papers meaningfully. "I'm asking that you respect his privacy, because I have a duty to enter these into his record. But if they happen to go wandering, well, it's for the better then. I just ask that you...not share these to the datanet." She added the last part quietly.
Natalie nodded mutely. Her mouth opened, but no noise escaped at first. It took several moments to process that he possibly had been willing to kill himself to keep her family secret buried. Elias, You helped me when I told you my family's secret and Myrrah came to us. I ran and wasn't there to help when someone came to you over yours. There's still at least one more thing I can do.
"If the record is left out, would that help Goshen's case? I mean...what if she isn't punished for this?"
"My personal testimony could condemn her by itself, and you still retain the physical medical record. Not to mention you could weigh in, and so could he, and it would remain out of any record or background check. Besides, Goshen's cuffed to a bed in the commoner ward, and I doubt she'll live much longer."
"You almost killed her?"
"Well, I wasn't gentle," Amilita admitted, not at all bothered by the admission. "But, no, she is seen as the one responsible for the loss of the noblewomen. The fleet and Nobles don't want to pin the loss of three system lady matriarchs on a martyr. Especially when one of them's a scioness of the Maudalenti family- you wouldn't know them but they're renowned for their brave military service."
Natalie's head spun. She'd actually heard of that family. "Why was he able to take so many of such high stature?"
"It takes considerable power or favor to bully one's way onto this world, past all the secrecy and safety demands, and even more to get to enjoy a pleasant time in a green zone. So naturally, almost all of them had it in spades. Enough to where their families could afford to chase Goshen to the ends of the Galaxy to make an example of her if they wanted, and I suspect greatly that they do. Even in the Delaware barracks, they're furious at Goshen for losing the Marine hostages, and ordering repeated long charges over open terrain against railguns. There's no state I can transfer her to, thanks to all the borrowed troops. There's hardly any that I can think of that didn't lose at least a pod or two. The sad reality is Galatea Goshen hasn't a friend left in the galaxy, let alone one here who can stand up to all that. Normally when this many interested parties want someone in uniform to be hung up by her ears the officers are able to close ranks and stop them, but for the life of me I can't imagine why anyone would. Azraea is thought to have died because Goshen couldn't get the job done." Then she sighed and looked skyward. "Even the Goddesses would abandon her now. The warrior Goddess Krek was bloodthirsty and loyal, but she would have hated the senseless casualties Goshen pushed for. And now, even I'm abandoning her over what she did to Elias." Her eyes drifted back down to meet Natalie's. "Do you understand what I'm saying? She's unlikely to live to see a trial."
She was laying Goshen out on a line.
"'Justice will be done'," Natalie promised, quoting an ancient tome carved into stone, weathered away by sea spray in the millennia since. Amilita hung her head ever so slightly deeper. Natalie shouldn't tip her hand, she knew, but then again Amilita also dared not interfere.
"Do you know when he'll wake up?"
"No," she said. "They sedated him on the flight over, apparently for his own protection, and it won't last. I'm told this may be a polite way of saying that he attacked them."
She blinked and started to stand up, "Then if you'll excuse me, I need to watch over him."
"Of course," Amilita almost whispered. "I'm sorry," so quiet and tender the words could hardly be said to have come from someone of Amilita's rank and physical stature.

Living Dead Boy

Natalie returned to find that an unknown Marine had joined Morsh near Elias's door, the former staying a respectful distance across the hallway. She wore a darker blue patch, indicating she wasn't here from Delaware's garrison. She strode right past Morsh, who made a point of shutting the door behind her.
Natalie stared at the stack of papers on the small table next to the chair she waited in, her gaze wandering about the room listlessly, coming once more to fall on its sole occupant
His chest rose and fell steadily, with an annoying 'beep' repeating at a constant interval indicating he was being monitored in at least some sense. His clothing was disheveled, like when she'd first met him.
She turned on her omni-pad, and sent a panoramic photo of the room to her mom, not even managing a smile. Just giving you an update. I don't know much. Watching the doctors, when they come in. Don't show anyone, obviously. It felt strange to even have to ask such a courtesy.
The message back was immediate: How much would I need to pay to have one here, just to answer my questions and look over Elias, and not just disappear somewhere else at random times?
The medical staff had wielded immense power, even in the face of a noble name. It reminded her more of a cult than a proper medical institution. Still, on Earth, most services seemed to have a price, even things that were held sacred. Thanks to the exchange rate the price was often rather pitiably small, surely, one doctor wouldn't take too much.
She was about to respond with a rough estimate when she thought she saw him stir, though it might have just been the sheet settling.
"Elias?" She asked, leaning over and placing her hand gently on his forearm, only for him to jerk awake and slap her hand off.
He had been stirring slowly, then more quickly and feverishly until he began kicking his legs, yanking the carefully tucked bed sheets out of where they were pressed and tangling them around his feet. The beeping had grown to a frantic and erratic pace, and a tone began to blare as he ripped something off his finger.
"Elias, calm down!"
Instead, he swung his legs out from the hospital bed and tried to push himself off of the bed and to the door, instead going down in a heap as the little white sheet slid on the slick floor. He let out a slight cry of pained alarm that would wrench at any woman's heart. Bright eyes wide and wild, he lay there for a second or two, and Natalie hesitated. She couldn't help but feel responsible in some way for the pain he was in, and so she backed off, and instead crouched down, showing her empty palms.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Natalie tried to soothe him, though he glanced over her shoulder at the exit, then around the room as her words sank in and he met her eyes- just for a moment, before he paused and gave her a second glance. "Natalie?" He rubbed at his eyes. "Sorry, everything was a bit blurry for a second there..."
The momentary expression of relief that settled over her was shattered when the door was suddenly shoved open, knocking Natalie forward and toward Elias, and then everyone began screaming at each other, all at the same time.
The poor Nurse let out a shriek of terror as Morsh pulled the hapless woman sprawling back out of the doorway by her fabric collar, legs and hands in the air as she slid.
Natalie tried to shield Elias's crouched form while finally cutting through everyone else's screaming with a simple command: 'Get out!' Elias was trying to push past her, but she couldn't let him run, she'd just found him! Then Morsh tried to step through the door, saying something about how an alert had gone off. Elias had half blocked her off with his body and gotten into some semblance of a fighting stance, and was now trying to protect Natalie from her own bodyguard. Each of them was blundering through trying to protect each other, but the chaos of the situation ensured that none succeeded at anything but getting in each other's way.
"Get OUT!" Natalie roared again. Morsh knew when to pick her battles, and when to follow orders, and slammed the door shut so hard it hurt her ears. Angry voices on the other side went back and forth, but Natalie pushed herself against the frame, even as the newly-conscious Elias gathered himself up and met her eyes.
