2024.05.29 03:29 DifferentWafer7237 Perfectionist rescue

I have chased the “world dream” of a man and I am now a happy husband and happy father. However my perfectionism has been punching at me and I am not satisfied by the mortal affairs and I’m blaming myself for the” imperfect” future we (my wife and I) are planning. I keep finding flaws in how I have been behaving and how the future is oncoming. Now my “perfectionism” has brought on a Great Depression to “why doesn’t it work” reality and I can’t cooperate (mentality)
Please share Experiances in hope I will find motivation…
Thank you

2024.05.29 03:08 AutomaticRead3217 AITAH For saying that my ex husband was just like his father because he cancelled on our daughter yet again?

I’m making this fairly quick, I feel like I went a tad bit far with my comment, so half and half on if I’m the AH at the moment.
So me (36F) and my ex husband (38M) were together for 6 years, married for 2 before he left me, at the time our daughter was a year old old (she’s now 5). There was no warning signs, I left to go do a grocery shop, came home to him and his clothes/things gone, left a note saying he was in love with a new woman and wanted a divorce, just like that.
I got absolutely no closure from that, any calls or messages were dodged, even when they were about our daughter, literally nothing.
During our divorce he tried to fight for full custody (despite at this point not having seen her for 6 months) which was denied because he was in the military and at times constantly moving.
I got full custody, he got supervision with holidays if he’s not deployed. Shortly after our divorce, he married his now wife and they settled down in the city we live in. He’s still in the military but now he’s on a specific base.
I asked if he wanted to revise the custody since he was no longer travelling? He said no need, and he wants to take things slow.
Since our divorce, he has maybe seen her 11 times? Over what, 4 years? And mind you, he literally lives in the same city, travel isn’t a problem.
My daughter is in therapy for this, just to process the absence/broken promises from her father (typical ‘I’ll pick you up this weekend’ only to bail last second)
Anyway, on to the issue. I got a call from him Friday night (he was supposed to pick our daughter up at 8 am Saturday, I got a call at 1am because I was up working.) and he basically says that he can’t take our daughter to his this weekend.
After some back and forth, he says it’s because his wife is upset with him spending time with her, and that’s she gets jealous. Yes, jealous of a 5 year old. Absolute pisstake.
I’ve been fairly cooperative this entire time, but Jesus, I was just so upset, like a build up of emotions I just started yelling at him, calling him a sack of shit and a disgrace. I mentioned our daughter being in therapy, how upset she was seeing some of the other kids with dads. In he preschool there was this dad day where the kids brought their dads in to do activities with them (they had a mom day the previous week) and he promised to show but pulled out last minute. I had to give her a sick day because she was so upset.
So I really started going in on him, he gets angry and starts yelling and cussing back. Eventually he got quiet, and I ended up saying “you know what’s really fucking funny? Our entire relationship you made a big show about how much you hated your dad, how horrible he was to your mum and siblings, how your biggest fear was becoming like him. But honesty? The apple doesn’t fall far from the fucking tree, because you are just like him.” (This was said in anger, he isn’t exactly like his father, but there’s were similarities, which was why I said it. His father cheated on his mother, abused them and eventually left and abandoned them for another woman. Take out the abuse part in my opinion they’re the same)
He didn’t say anything for a couple of seconds, said ‘Jesus Christ’ and then he just ended the call.
I haven’t had contact with him since then. I absolutely did not feel bad at the time, I felt like my words were justified, but the longer it waits the more I feel like I went too far, I ended up telling my parents what I said to get some feedback and they said it was cruel and unnecessary. So, AITAH?

2024.05.29 02:40 MyBallsBern4Bernie Was D.A. Bragg Right to Bring the New York Charges Against Trump?

Was D.A. Bragg Right to Bring the New York Charges Against Trump?
Though we don’t know how Bragg weighed his charging decisions, we do know something about how his predecessor did. In February 2021, then-District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. placed the Trump probe in the hands of Mark Pomerantz, whom he appointed as a special assistant district attorney. Pomerantz, then about 70, was a veteran defense lawyer who had also served two stints as a prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including one as the chief of its criminal division. In February 2023, Pomerantz published a book about his experience, “People v. Trump: An Inside Account,” which is my source for his perspective on the case.
Soon after surveying the evidentiary landscape, Pomerantz concluded that he had “predication”—a good-faith basis—for investigating a charge of “enterprise corruption.” That statute, which carries a theoretical maximum 25-year prison term and a mandatory minimum one-year term, is New York’s equivalent of the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. It permits prosecution of those who operate a business through a pattern of criminal activity over an extended period of time. Pomerantz considered that statute to be the “ideal vehicle” for pursuing Trump because
we had evidence that Trump had grown the business, and augmented his wealth, reputation, and power, through a pattern of criminal activity. The potential “pattern” crimes included defrauding persons and entities about his net worth and the value of his assets, underpaying his federal and state income taxes and property taxes, falsifying business records in order to conceal his agreement to pay hush money to women who claimed to have had extramarital affairs with him, operating Trump university as a consumer fraud, setting up a charitable foundation that was actually used as a personal slush fund, submitting fraudulent insurance claims, and other potential crimes.
Some of the conduct Pomerantz was describing above had already been adjudicated or litigated in civil proceedings. In 2018, Trump had settled three consolidated consumer fraud class actions relating to Trump University, including one brought by the New York State Attorney General’s Office, paying $25 million, which was about 90 percent of what the plaintiffs sought. In December 2018, Trump also agreed to dissolve Trump Foundation to resolve the state attorney general’s charges of a pattern of persistent illegal conduct, occurring over a decade, that includes extensive unlawful political coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing transactions that benefit Trump’s personal and business interests, and violations of basic legal obligations for nonprofit foundations.”
In November 2019, a state supreme court justice had also ordered Trump to pay $2 million in damages stemming from his foundation’s abuses.
snip
Soon Pomerantz brought a criminal case for tax fraud against Trump’s closely held Trump Organization and its longtime chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. Pomerantz hoped Weisselberg would cooperate against Trump. Later, in August 2022, after Pomerantz left the office, Weisselberg did plead guilty to a 15-year scheme to defraud federal and state tax authorities. Specifically, he admitted all 15 felony charges against him, including grand larceny in the second degree—which carries a maximum 15-year penalty—as well as criminal tax fraud, scheme to defraud, conspiracy, offering a false instrument for filing, and falsifying business records. But Weisselberg, who had worked for Trump for decades and, before that, for his father, never did implicate Trump. Also later, in December 2022, a jury convicted two Trump Organization entities, Trump Corp. and Trump Payroll Corp., of 17 felony counts, including criminal tax fraud, scheme to defraud, falsifying business records, and conspiracy.
The prosecutions of Weisselberg and the Trump corporate entities, which were defended by skilled teams of lawyers, proved to be time- and resource-draining affairs for the district attorney’s office. By the summer of 2021, Pomerantz later wrote, he realized that an enterprise corruption charge “was not going to happen.” It was “too ambitious for the human and investigative bandwidth” of “a local prosecutor’s office.” Pomerantz began to focus on Trump’s provable role in propagating his brazenly false financial statements over about a decade—statements that Trump showed to lenders to qualify for lower interest rates. Pomerantz worked on this probe in conjunction with the Office of the New York State Attorney General, which had already been investigating these allegations before he arrived.

2024.05.29 01:12 kaleviko [All] That stuff kicked

In P4, Cole had a quick sit-down with Denise. He defended his decision to involve Agent Tammy Preston in the investigation.
Cole: "Agent Tammy Preston has the stuff, Denise."
As usual, this didn't sound like that important to think about. Later in P13, Bobby went to get dinner in RR Diner. He told Ed and Norma they got some stuff, too.
Ed: "What's new, Deputy?" Bobby: "Oh, well, we, uh, found some stuff that my dad left today."
Earlier in P9, the deputies opened a small metal tube left behind by Bobby's father, Major Briggs, revealing cryptic instructions. Ed suggested we needed to give this a good thought.
Ed: "What kind of stuff?"
A kind of stuff is private property. Another word for that is possession. Another kind of possession is a supernatural event when an intrusive spirit dominates another being, something that Twin Peaks has been all about. Going forward, let's keep this in mind.
If it was necessary to figure out the "stuff" to make sense of the plot, Tammy would have had something which was equal to what the Major had left for the deputies. The most personal scene of her otherwise detached character was in P5. She was sitting by herself in her cubicle, going through some stuff. Maybe the stuff we needed to find was somewhere there. Among other stuff.
Connecting to what the deputies found from inside the metal tube was Tammy holding two pictures of Cooper. Left, she had a picture of the young agent in his fancy FBI suit. Right, she had the picture of Cooper's aged doppelganger.
We had seen the same doppelganger picture already an episode earlier when the FBI visited Yankton Federal Prison. Inspector Randy Hollister displayed the picture on a large screen, along with all sort of chaotic information about Cooper.
Two Coopers, one with 66.
The scale next to Mr C's head gave his height as 75 inches, 6"3, which could not possibly have been correct. The inconsistency may have suggested there was something in that scale we needed to notice. In the middle of his head, there was a black line pointing to number 66. That was also included in a closeup of the mugshot that was shown when the FBI went to interview the detained man.
Another kind of two Coopers were on the second slip of paper that the deputies recovered from the tube. Written in the middle of it, there was the text, "COOPECOOPER". So as not to miss the idea here, Hawk spelled it out for us.
Hawk: "Two Coopers!"
Next to the right-side COOPER, there was number 66, connecting it to the doppelganger's picture both on the prison's screen and in Tammy's right hand.
All doppelgangers that we saw in the Black Lodge appeared as a kind of one-trick ponies that clearly were not capable of any meaningful operation on their own. This also applied to Cooper's doppelganger. When he made an entry in the season 2 finale, he struggled to even get the curtains open. But all of a sudden, the doppelganger turned into a completely controlled being with a clear plan and a purpose.
Earle got the stuff first.
As BOB had moments before taken Windom Earle's soul from his old body, we probably needed to put these things together so that what happened was BOB possessing the mindless doppelganger with Earle's spirit. Without the possession, the doppelganger would have been useless, but now its plan was likely the Earle's plan. Another kind of possession being stuff, like discussed, we'd start to get an understanding what having this specific stuff would have been all about.
This then takes us to P6 when Richard Horne had an early morning meeting with a nameless newcomer credited as the color Red. When the scene at the sawmill started, Richard was consuming something, off screen. We assumed he had taken some kind of drug, but whatever it was, a moment later it started to have an impact on him.
Richard: "Shit. Oh, tha ... this stuff kicks!"
As the scene progressed, Richard had increasing troubles with reality, as if he was moving towards some kind of climactic moment. Even if the scene cut before that happened, some magic was already dripping through to the world when Red's coin stopped respecting the laws of nature.
Richard got kicked by the stuff.
Much later in P15, Richard held Mr C at gunpoint in front of the Convenience Store. Effortlessly, the doppelganger took the gun from his hand, hit him in the face and then gave him a nasty kicking as he was lying on the ground.
This stuff kicks. Richard also got a kicking from Cooper's doppelganger. What was really happening to him in that warehouse?
Before Richard got beaten, he talked about his mother.
Richard: "You're FBI." Mr C: "How do you figure that?" Richard: "'Cause I seen your picture in your fancy FBI suit."
Going back to Red, just as Richard felt the "stuff" kicking him, Red gave him one of his confusing remarks.
Red: "Have you ever studied your hand?"
Study the hands.
These lines would find their purpose in P5 when Tammy Preston was watching the old photograph of Cooper in his fancy FBI suit. The scene started with a closeup of her holding the picture. Something was wrong, though, as the hands clearly were not her hands that we got a good close-up of later in P7. They might have been Richard's hands, with a suggestion this was the very photograph he was talking about.
That this was the intended approach was further implied by Tammy keenly studying doppelganger's fingerprints - that is, his hands. This way, Richard and his "stuff" would also lead to two Coopers.
These observations would now give their own kind of wild explanation to an earlier baffling idea that the scene between Red and Richard actually continued in P2, with Red now as Jack the garageman and Richard having turned into Mr C, ready to get going with the black Lincoln Town Car and apparently about to kill Jack next.
Richard's abrupt change would have been possible because the "stuff" that he had taken was Cooper's doppelganger, literally transforming him into Mr C. While Richard and Red talked, the younger man would have gradually disconnected from his present reality and drifted to another world where he would possess the doppelganger. Everything else would have changed as well, with Red turning into Jack and his expensive Rolex into the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S 550 Coupé he had in the garage, the apparent counterpart for the sawmill warehouse.
If this was figured out as intended, at certain points in the story, both Tammy and Sheriff Truman had the doppelganger in their possession, respectively, she as a photograph and him as a name on a piece of paper, with Lynch's storytelling again abstracting characters and concepts to the extreme. This would align with an earlier conclusion that both Red and the Sheriff were the same character - ultimately none other than Phillip Jeffries - explaining how Red got the doppelganger he seems to have then given to Richard for a ride, for whatever hidden reason that then was. At that point, it would naturally have been vacated of Windom Earle, this or that way.
How about Tammy and her "stuff" then? She would also have had Cooper's doppelganger right there with her in the cubicle, suggesting her character was more than an FBI agent. Perhaps she got a taste of him as well, implied by the scene ending with her lifting her right hand to her mouth that after a cut inconsistently changed to her left hand.
Or, perhaps she suddenly started to feel a bit carsick and would soon need both of her hands over her mouth.

2024.05.28 22:00 Correct_Web_4870 Second and third script for Bob Audio Drama (wip)

Narrator: It was an early September morning. The sun was starting to rise, and the townsfolk were starting to wake up and do their usual routines. One of these townsfolk just happened to be a police officer. They were called into the station, and came as soon as they could. They stepped out of their parked car and walked over to the entrance. Before they entered, they would quickly fix their hat and tie.
Once inside, they would pass the lobby and go to the counte reception area. On the other side, stood a deputy with black, short hair and black eyes. They wore a blue button up with a police vest, blue jeans, and black shoes. A walkie talkie was attached to their vest. This deputy’s name was Jack. When he saw the police officer before him, he smiled.
Jack: Hello Sofia. Glad you could come.” (Happily)
Sofia: “Of course. From what I could tell by John’s tone during the call, it’s something very important.”
Narrator: The officer’s name was Sofia Asturias. Sometimes, she was called, officer Asturias. She had black eyes and medium blonde deep red hair. She wore a blue collared uniform, a cap with a black rim and a badge in the center of it. A black tie, pants, and shoes. She carried a glock firearm, a taser, a radio, and handcuffs at all times. She has been a part of the force for some time now.
Jack’s demeanor changed when he heard what Sofia had inferred.
Jack: It is, Sofia. Let me take you to the evidence room where John is currently. He’ll explain more about what’s happened. (urgently)
Narrator: Sofia nodded and entered the reception area. Together, she and Jack went over to the evidence room. Jack softly knocked on the door, and heard
John: Come in (lost in thought)
Narrator: Jack opened the door and entered with Sofia.
Jack: Officer Asturias is here, John. (presenting)
Narrator: John turned around to face the two. He had brown curly hair and a mustache, his eyes were black. He wore a black shirt and dark blue jacket. A black belt for his brown jeans, and had on black shoes. He currently has a cigar in his mouth. He took it out to talk.
John: Officer Asturias, I know that we just recently talked on the phone, before you came. Though now that you’re here, I’ll be giving you the bigger picture. (serious) Sofia: I understand. What’s the bigger picture then? (curiously)
Narrator: John motioned her to come to his side, before he pointed to a picture on the investigation thread they were producing.
John: Last night, a mutilated body was found in an alleyway. One of the victim’s arms and legs were missing. They also had a stab wound on their back. (Explanatory) Right now, we don’t have any leads, whoever did this left no trace. (frustrated)
Narrator: Sofia looked at the gruesome picture, and listened to what the sheriff had to say. Focusing on the important details.
Sofia: This is the first case of mutilation, correct? (Questioningly)
John: Correct (confirming)
Sofia: How can I help with the case? So we can make sure that this doesn’t happen again. (interested)
John: For now, be vigilant. Especially on your night shift. Hopefully we can gather more clues in the time being before this perpetrator strikes again. (Serious and urgent, with a sense of caution and concern.)
Sofia: Alright, I’ll make sure that nothing slips by me, specifically anything suspicious. I’ll leave you and Jack to it then. (cooperative)
Narrator: Sofia would turn around and leave John, and was facing Jack.
Sofia: I’ll see you later.
Jack: See you, Sofia (friendly)
Narrator: Sofia would exit the evidence room, after giving Jack a smile back, after he gave a smile to her. She left the way she came and entered her police cruiser. She was lost in thought for a bit. She needed to ensure this didn’t spiral out of control. She had a family to think of. A whole town she needed to ensure stayed safe. She now had a clear objective, as she left the parking lot and onto the streets.
It was still morning. In one of the houses of the town, the Rosendale family dweled. Sofia knew them well, because they were her family. Her niece was Evelyn Rosendale, a female teenager. She had green eyes and black hair. She wore a high neck lantern sleeve sweater, flap cargo pants and wedge boots. She was the youngest, two years younger than her older brother. Sofia’s nephew was Toby Rosendale, a young adult male. He had hazel eyes, and rich auburn hair. He wore a plaid drawstring hooded shirt, navy blue jeans, and blue sneakers. Sofia’s brother in law and the father of both Evelyn and Toby, was Andrew Rosendale. He had brown eyes and brown sable hair. He wore a plain color lapel part zipper shirt, with pants and shoes.
At the moment in the household, Evelyn was getting ready for school, while Toby was getting ready to head to his college classes. Their dad was cooking breakfast for them.
Toby: Sis, hurry up. You still have to eat breakfast before going to school! (calling out)
Eveyln: Speak for yourself, you have to eat breakfast too. I’m not the only one at risk of coming late to school! (calling back)
Andrew: Breakfast is ready! (announce)
Narrator: Soon the two siblings raced down the stairs and to the dining room. Where their dad had placed the two plates full of food on the table.
Evelyn: Looks delicious, dad. Thanks. (grateful)
Toby: Thanks, dad. (grateful)
Andrew: Of course. (happily) Now eat up, I don’t want any of you to be late for your classes. (sternly)
Both: Yes dad (in acknowledgement)
Narrator: After the two were done, they stood up with their plates and utensils and placed the items in the sink. Before grabbing their bags.
Toby: Bye dad. (in a rush)
Andrew: Bye son (warmly)
Narrator: Evelyn hadn’t left yet. She wanted to tell her dad where she planned to go after school. She came up to him.
Evelyn: Hey dad? Would it be ok, if after school, I went to the candy club? I just want to get some candy. (Polite and slightly tentative)
Narrator: Andrew thought for a moment. He saw no harm in Evelyn doing so.
Andrew: Yes, you can go. As long as you have the money buy some candy and don’t come late. (granting permission)
Evelyn: I do and I won’t. See you. (happily)
Narrator: Evelyn left with a smile on her face, she was on her way to school. Andrew would clean up the plates and utensils and get himself ready for work. He put on his suit, ready for another day at the bank.
Script 3:
Narrator: It was late afternoon, close to evening. Evelyn had left school and was on her way to the candy club. She had her backpack on her. One of the arm straps was on her shoulder. At the entrance of the store, there were giant lollipop displays, a display of donuts, and cookie bars. A glowing sign above in pink with white letters, that read: -Candy Club-
Evelyn smiled and walked in. The store was filled with candy and sweet treats. The aroma was one of sugar and baked goods. The music was soft, yet cheerful. Behind the counter, was a young man with black hair. He wore a white button-up shirt with a single pink stripe on both sleeves, a pink bowtie that resembles a taffy wrapper with a white swirl on it, a white employee cap, light blue pants, and black shoes. His name was Kevin.
He saw her walk in and greeted her with a friendly smile.
Kevin: Hey Evelyn. Nice to see you again. (Friendly)
Evelyn: Hi Kevin. Yeah, it's been a while. How are you? (Friendly and warm)
Kevin: I'm doing well. As well as I can anyway with this job. You know how some kids are. (Slightly resigned, with a hint of humor)
Evelyn: Mhm. That's good to hear, and just think of it this way. You're bringing delight to everyone with these sweets. Even though you don't make them, people still have to buy it from you. (Encouraging)
Kevin: True. Though sometimes dealing with certain customers can be a pain. (conversational and mildly frustrated.)
Evelyn: I can sort of relate. I worked in retail last summer. There were so many times where I just wished to disappear or just tell the customers off. (Empathic and reflective)
Kevin: (chuckled) I can definitely imagine what you might've told those customers if you had the chance. (lighthearted and slightly teasing.)
Evelyn: (laughed softly) Yeah, I would've left them stunned. Anyway, I'm going to see what candy I'll get. (Confident, then casual)
Kevin: May I give you a suggestion? (Politely)
Evelyn: What's your suggestion? (Intrigued)
Kevin: I suggest you get Zoots. They're sweet at first, but then turn sour quickly with some tiny pops. (Informative, and enthusiastic)
Narrator: Evelyn was shocked, but grinned. She playfully slapped one of his hands. Which was on the counter.
Evelyn: Kevin (shocked)
Kevin: (Laughed) Ow (playfully) Or you can get another candy. (Open-ended)
Evelyn: (gigled) I'll think about it.
Narrator: Kevin smiled, as he shook his hand after getting it off the counter. Evelyn would look around and would pick out the candy. She got a chocolate bar, a pack of bubblegum, a bag of gummy bears, and a small bag of Zoots. She placed them all on the counter.
Kevin: So you did pick out Zoots after all. (Smugly)
Narrator: Evelyn playful rolled her eyes, before taking out the cash to pay for the candy.
Evelyn: I did. I just had to, after hearing the description of the candy. Here you go. (Slightly playful)
Narrator: Kevin took the money and placed it in the cash register.
Kevin: I know you'll enjoy them. Would you like a bag for the candies? Or are you going to place them in your backpack? (Considerate and curious)
Evelyn: I'll place them in my backpack. Thanks. (Appreciative)
Narrator: Evelyn would grab the candy she bought and place them all in her backpack. Once her backpack was zipped up, she put it on her back again.
Evelyn: I gotta go now. It was nice talking to you Kevin. Thanks for the candy. (Friendly and appreciative, with a casual undertone)
Kevin: It was nice talking to you too. You're welcome, hope to see you soon. (Friendly/warm, with a hint of anticipation)
Narrator: After they exchanged goodbyes. Evelyn walked out of the store with her candy. Now heading straight home.
What the police would find the next morning, would be another body.
Bob/Devil: (Evil laughter) echo sound effect

Session 1 "The Apartment" (May 24th, 2024)
New York: Tuesday, August 8th, 1995
1:45pm - 3:32pm, EST
Entering the lobby of the Macallistar building in Kips Bay, NYC, the Agents first make a sweep of Abigail's mailbox. Agent MARCUS (M-Cell Case Officer) provided them with a complete set of keys, not to be copied. The mailbox is stuffed full with bills, junk mail, catalogues and offers; mail still being delivered by people who have no idea Abigail is missing. MAVERICK gathers it in a bag and they make their way to Abigail's apartment (Ground floor).
The Macallistar echoes an earlier age. Faded purple carpeting and design from the turn of the century. Opposite Abigail's front door is an old-fashioned telephone nook, complete with bench and curtain for comfort and privacy when phone-lines in individual apartment was an expense few could afford.
M-Cell enters the apartment, finding it somewhere between a hoarder's dream and crime-scene technician's nightmare. The small hallway leads to a living-room (the apartment's largest space), an adjoining bedroom and a kitchen and bathroom opposite each other. Aside from the hallway, on first inspection the only other uncluttered space is the kitchen, which doesn't really look as if it's been used much. MAVERICK ear-marks that as something he wants to check himself as the team begin taking stock.
The NYPD has left a box with copies of their files, including a list of tenants they interviewed, many, many evidence collection bags and a box of latex gloves.
The apartment is filled with various items, with almost no floor visible beneath the collection. CDs and CD cases are stuck or glued to the wall, along with mannequin parts, sketches and assorted pieces that might be ceramic or plastic arranged in odd patterns without reason or rhyme. Stacks of phone books, stretches of dyed fabrics stitched together, an antique claw-footed lamp. Bags, bundles of pictures (drawings and photographs) of seeming nonsense. No furniture is immediately visible in the chaotic mess.
MAIN finds the same result in the bedroom as the first Search rolls are called for. Something catches his eye in the anarchy of the bedroom.
MALATESTA begins sorting through the pile of mail. MILHOUSE at first begins helping, but seeing the scale of the cataloguing, volunteers to make a coffee and food run. MIRANDA begins photographing, while MAVERICK gloves up and asks for things to be passed to him such as brushes, anything with a handle really or something more likely to have fingerprints on it. He wants to see if he can grab a set of Abigail's prints, if that's possible.
It doesn't take MALATESTA long to work out Abigail stopped paying her rent and bills in or around March before disappearing in June. Money was coming in up to a certain point, apparently from a showing Abigail had at the Mercury Gallery in Greenwich Village in November the previous year. There's even a letter from the gallery owner asking about another possible showing; from the way it's written, it might not have been the first time he spoke to Abigail before she vanished. Then, the only money coming in appears to be from her father, though she doesn't appear to have used it to cover the rent. He also gets the building management company, Art Life and their address.
As the Agents work, with MAIN carefully picking his way through the bedroom towards whatever caught his eye and MAVERICK uncovers a battery-powered hi-fi under all the trash, MILHOUSE returns from his coffee run and bumps into someone else entering the Macallistar at the same time he is. After an awkward hesitation on the threshold, MILHOUSE spends a little chatting to Lewis Post, one of Abigail's neighbours. MILHOUSE passes a HUMINT roll and I ruled that having spent most of his time in academics and his fellow PhDs, he can spot signs of some kind of social anxiety. I felt that was a fair get for a good success.
Lewis is hesitant but forthcoming as MILHOUSE works that high charisma score, knowing what to say to diffuse any potential tension. As far as Lewis knows, he is FBI of some kind after all.
MILHOUSE: "Did she ever mention a boyfriend? Girlfriend?"
Lewis: "Our relationship wasn't really like that. We had coffee sometimes. Talked about art. The process." He thinks. "She might have mentioned someone, but not a name, only what they did. A salesman, but I couldn't tell you what they sold."
MILHOUSE: "Talk about anything else?"
Lewis begins heading upstairs "She mentioned moving, but not before she was ready."
Back in the apartment, MAIN voices what others were thinking. "Where was she staying?" No bed, no signs of habitation except for the assorted hoard of crap. MAIN finds a hand grenade nestled in some papers and art supplies near the bedroom's walk-in closet.
In the living room, MAVERICK finds a single cassette tape in the uncovered hi-fi and flips it on, finding the batteries still live. Everyone hears MAVERICK's conversation with his significant other, Natalie from the previous evening. MAVERICK realises it's cut up and out of order, rewinds it and then flips it over. He thinks the entire conversation has been split between A & B sides of the tape.
MALATESTA and MAVERICK both consider phone-tapping, but MAIN, grenade temporarily forgotten, asks how it ended up here?
SAN check for MAVERICK. Pocketing the cassette tape, MAVERICK closes down a bit and prepares to go over the kitchen with a fine tooth comb; perhaps this is how he copes?
Before MAIN can mention the grenade he's worried about, MIRANDA, MALATESTA, MILHOUSE & MAVERICK notice something on the wall behind where the hi-fi was previously buried under junk. Fixed to the wall, maybe with some kind of glue is a piece of brown packing-paper with some kind of symbol drawn on it. Everyone focuses on it.

3:41pm to 5:22pm, EST
MALATESTA: "That certainly looks like what we're supposed to be worried about."
MIRANDA snaps a polaroid. MILHOUSE tries to examine it, but his Occult check can only give him the vague thought it's connected to demonology, but little else beyond that. MAVERICK is cautious, but more concerned about getting to work on the unusually spotless kitchen.
Carefully, MIRANDA removes it and a blaring sounds like something between a horn blast and explosion almost deafens the Agents. It seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, from right next to them and outside at the same time.
Everyone passes a CONx5 check and the subsequent SAN check. Through the living room's window, MIRANDA, MILHOUSE and MAIN see a yellow-cab in the street outside. The cabbie appears to have leaned on the horn as someone crosses the street. They appear heavily dressed for summer, possibly homeless.
Is that a snake draped across their shoulders?
MIRANDA takes a polaroid while MILHOUSE and MAIN head outside to investigate. The picture reveals in sharp clarity, the cabbie staring down the barrel as she snapped the shot directly at her. MAVERICK gets to work in the kitchen and MALATESTA picks over things in the living room and bedroom respectively.
Search rolls for those in the apartment.
Outside, the cab has turned the corner and the pedestrian has carried on, though MAIN and MILHOUSE are able to work out where they went. MILHOUSE heads to cut off the other side of the alley, while MAIN approaches from behind, getting the pedestrian's attention. It's the height of summer in NYC, the air reeks of gasoline, rotting garbage and baking, soiled concrete and asphalt.
MAIN finds a nondescript, seemingly homeless man by the state of his clothes, but with a python draped over his shoulders. MAIN strikes up conversation, lighting a Gitane cigarette and pointing to the snake. From the other end of the alley, MILHOUSE makes his way towards the pair.
MAIN fails an alertness check.
Is this guy sweating? It's hot and he's bundled up like it's winter. Is he sweating? Why isn't he sweating?
Back in the apartment, MAVERICK tests the kitchen for blood and body fluids, breaking out the spray bottle and UV light. There's no cutlery, glassware or dishware anywhere in the room, but as he's lifting what could be a print, finds a mechanical diagram drawn on a napkin taped above the inside of an otherwise empty drawer. MALATESTA & MIRANDA continue their search of the living and bedroom, with MALATESTA finding a card printed with the following:
"For a good time Call D - 999-202-9989"
On the reverse are a series of what appear to be street corner addresses in Brooklyn. Could be a sex-line, could be a way to see Red Band underground film screenings, could be something online related. MALATESTA drifts between a few circles and he pockets it out of curiosity. When MIRANDA locates the grenade in the bedroom, she is careful to give it a wide berth and locates what MAIN missed: a backpack radio in the bedroom's walk-in closet. She calls MALATESTA over.
Back in the alleyway, MILHOUSE rolls under 10% and passes his disguise check. Dressed casually and a college athlete to boot, he fits the general chad look in his New York Knicks shirt despite his academic leanings. Being loud and obnoxious like he's drunk, he barrels into the homeless guy with the snake who stonewalled MAIN.
Instead he hits MAIN as the man with the snake is there and gone in the space between blinks. One moment MAIN is looking at him and then MILHOUSE knocks him flat on his ass. Like a film edit. Just gone. MAIN crit fails his SAN check and takes 4 SAN loss without projecting. Instead, as he scrambles up begins kicking over trash cans and searching the alley while MILHOUSE tries to calm him down and get a handle on things.
As MILHOUSE is talking MAIN out of tearing the alley apart, MIRANDA and MALATESTA check out the radio. As it comes to life, they listen and hear the following:
"Exeter. India. One. Thirteen. Sierra. Twenty. Twenty. Forty-nine."
MAVERICK meanwhile, finding the kitchen bare oddly finds the refrigerator stocked. There isn't much inside, some milk unopened and a pack of cheese and deli meat. Expiration is months ago, but through the plastic and glass of the bottle it looks fresh. Curious, he opens the milk and finds it smells as fresh as the day it was bought. Months ago.
Passes his SAN check. Given what he heard on the tape, it's not the strangest thing today.
MAIN and MILHOUSE detour to grab some more coffees, more to calm MAIN down and give him a (successful CHAx5 check) to flirt with the coffeeshop waitress. On their return, MAIN heads into the bedroom, pulls the pin on the grenade and activates the firing lever.
Nothing happens. His "hunch" was correct. Despite failing to properly identify it, something about the shape of it didn't match modern ordnance. Like the radio, it's vintage and either deactivated or else rendered inert by time and age.
I gave MAIN a SAN point back, because why not?
As things begin winding down, MILHOUSE and MAVERICK puzzle over the weird fridge, with MILHOUSE sacrificing his green tea and MAVERICK a donut to see how "fresh" they are come morning between the fridge and not.

After 6pm, EST
Between them, M-Cell take the rest of the evening to take care of home-scenes or any unfinished business they can get done with their resources at hand. They also divide the Operational evidence from the Case evidence, with MIRANDA taking the symbol, MALATESTA the backpack radio & phone number, MAVERICK the cassette tape (for obvious reasons) and MAIN the mechanical sketch on the napkin.
MIRANDA and MILHOUSE, using the former's academic credentials both stay on the case, with MIRANDA leaving her photos from the park to develop in her bathroom. While she fails her roll, she does help MILHOUSE identify the demon the symbol refers to and book-related lead. She hits up a criminal contact named Hugo to put out feelers for weird items she may be interested in. He agrees for a fee, which she negotiates in her favour.
Returning to her apartment, MIRANDA finds her photos of the dancing clown and watching crowd have developed. In every photograph, the clown is turned away from her, but the faces in the crowd are looking at her. That's not how she remembers it. Fails a SAN check. Projects on to her editor, knowing she's going to be taking a "personal day" tomorrow, and this after she agreed to go to the grill.
This will have consequences.
MAIN, unnerved by the day's events, not the least of which was being knocked on his ass by a fitter, younger man, heads out. He returns to the coffeeshop he and MILHOUSE visited and takes the waitress he hit on out on a date. After a romantic interlude, MAIN has a new bond. Her name's Marsha, she's 27 and very nice.
Breaking Operational Security, MAVERICK asks MALATESTA to come back to his apartment and check for possible surveillance. Despite suffering comparatively little SAN loss overall, MAVERICK is letting the day's events impact his behaviour.
It's trivially easy for MALATESTA to confirm there are no bugs in place, which really does narrow the options for how the conversation could have been recorded. Thankful, he asks MALATESTA to keep this to himself for now, to which the grunge-kid agrees. MAVERICK drops MALATESTA near his home and leaves, putting the tape in the player of his car as he pulls away.
MALATESTA lives near the Village and diverts to check out the Mercury Gallery. Though closed, it seems legit and he makes a note of it for later. Back at home, he breaks open the backpack radio and examines it. The battery is not connected to the radio itself, the wires having been stripped out, yet he and MIRANDA both heard a voice on the end of its phone-mic. He passes his SAN check and finds in place of one of the transistors a small, black stone which does not feel like stone at all and feels like it's body temperature. MALATESTA leaves it on his desk, covered in a cloth.
Alone in his apartment, MAVERICK watches his phone. The time comes and he does not call Natalie. A moment later, his phone rings.
Alone in the apartment, MAVERICK does not answer.

Post-Mortem
We ended up playing for a touch longer than I intended, but I knew that would happen by the time the cab sounded its horn. Despite some tiredness and some drinking, we ended up with a really strong session in retrospect, which has set the overall tone of the campaign for me as GM going forward. Between the five players, two have been through one Delta Green campaign, one has experience with Pulp Cthulhu and two have varying levels of exposure. They all roleplayed the f##k out of their characters and while I was worried about just how weird I wanted things to get out the gate, it feels like the balance is correct and I've given enough avenues for further investigation they may want to pursue.
I got a far better sense, as did the players, as to what drives and motivates their characters and how they cope or don't cope with Delta Green work.
MILHOUSE is definitely setting himself up as the curious academic, Iain playing his interest as forever drawn towards what's there "to discover," he said in character. Perhaps a fool and his sanity are easily parted?
MAVERICK is the "all-American", Agent Cooper adjacent FBI Agent who butts up against the para-natural and is seemingly rocked by it, revealing a complicated and perhaps conflicted depth. In his previous operation with MIRANDA, MAVERICK killed one person, but something about this has gotten under his skin. I wonder what Natalie thinks about their missed call?
A hacker by trade, MALATESTA likes a puzzle as much as he does not like the "weird shit." He talks a good talk when it's about something he knows, but is much too shy to chat up his co-worker. He and MAVERICK had some friction in Session 0 when MAVERICK wanted to call him Mal, to which the younger man pushed back against. Yet, he now knows where MAVERICK lives. Maybe he can learn more? What will he do with that? Does he even want to?
As much as MILHOUSE, MIRANDA is likewise driven by curiosity and a need to know, but first and foremost to keep herself safe. She and him are not the same. There's a scar above her hip from a knife, and it still twinges from time to time. She's also the first to directly or indirectly involve a Bond in the investigation. I wonder what Hugo will or won't find? I wonder what those photos mean. MIRANDA wondered aloud whether the crowd or the clown was the "entity." What does that mean?
Despite being built like Jack Reacher (albeit in a sailor suit), MAIN projects a tough air but is clearly a man at the crossroads. He turns 40 before 1995 ends; middle age. When hit with a problem or something he can't otherwise work out, his behaviour swings from one extreme to the other. To date, he's coped with the case by: lashing out at trash cans in an alley. Chatting up a waitress and forming a romantic bond with her. Pulling the pin on a grenade he "thought" could be fake. It's day one. I'm here for it.
Our next session is scheduled for June 7th, 2024.
Until then, be seeing you.

2024.05.28 19:43 AbolishHumanArchism Democracy is original sin.

Democracy is original sin.
'The concepts of "Right Reason" are said to have come from the ideas born out of the Age of Reason. But this idea has been common throughout the history of all man kind but known by many names; The Law of Nature, Natural law, Right Reason, Divine Will, the Will of God, the Word of God or even the Logos of Christ.
Natural Law Definition: ... "There is, in fact, a true law - namely right reason - which is in accordance with nature, applies to all men, and is unchangeable and eternal. By its commands, this law summons men to the performance of their duties. By its prohibitions, it restrains them from doing wrong."
“[A]ll existing things are subject to decay and change is a truth that scarcely needs proof; for the course of nature is sufficient to force this conviction on us.” Polybius and Aristotle believed in the political doctrine of anacyclosis which is that the theory of political evolution is cyclical.
Concerning the "rule by the one, the few, and the many" Democracy is not the rule by the many but rather rule by the majority whereas a true Republic is the rule of the many individuals by the each individual in voluntary cooperation with each other through "Right Reason" or "Divine Will" which is according to the law of Nature. This is because the leaders of a true Republic are titular and they may only rule over things public that are freely given to them.
It is not "Right Reason" to think you are a product of your own "self-creation". You cannot be a part of society today without due humble recognition of the generations that have gone before. This begins with honoring your Father and Mother but continues from our forgotten ancestral beginnings to the unseen progeny of the eternal future which all reside in the heuristics of a timeless God.
In Socialism, there is no need for God, for the collective is god and its leaders are the "gods many" of its society. This is why they need no god and imagine themselves content with atheism.'

2024.05.28 18:54 Spark_-_ Episode 2 - The boy living alone

(First of all, happy birthday Bored. Second, Reddit told me the view count.) (TL:DR: The girl is sad but optimistic about her podcast. She is then ordered to torture a man, accidentally steals his memories. She tries to not let it show. The podcast talks about a boy and a mysterious mirror.)
No comments. No likes. 265 views. That is sad. But also good? People know it… People don’t like it? Why? No answer. That is sad. But also not?
No time for thoughts. Father opened the door. Again. But no guests or food? Oh. Right. Probably one of those awful days. He didn’t say a thing. She just left her room. It was scary the usual.
Two people. No shared features. A man, held down by them. Stuff in his mouth. Anger in his eyes. Soon to be replaced by fear cooperation. She did pity him. But father said it had to be. A blessing to make the good happy. A blessing to make her the bad suffer.
The two people ignored the gold dust. The man was amazed. They all were. Until it hurt them, or they forgot their actual age. She got instructions. Stop after aging up five years. Let them ask. Thumbs down, again. Thumbs up, normal age. If dead, to dust.
Her father had his iron grip on her shoulder. No sign of weakness. He had this not under control. Even if he was not the one with the ability. But he owned her. Everyone owned their child, and the child obeyed always. That’s what she knew from her own memories. She never wanted to know about that aspects from others.
A ride took five minutes, always. 300 seconds. 3000 milliseconds. A twelfth of an hour. Soon his hair baldened, teeth fell out. He even started to have cancer. But no answer. He was too stubborn.
At the start of a ride, her father left for a quick call. Now, she could steal his memories. But there was nothing worthwhile. Still, habit struck.
These memories burned. Pain. Bad childhood but not worse than hers. But also recent things. A murder. A mansion? Diamonds…? She didn’t want to steal this. She couldn’t give it back. He would die. Oh. She could die.
She held back her emotions when he came back in. No hesitation when she stopped the ride. No hesitation when she knew the next ride would kill him. No hesitation when she aged his corpse up by a number even she couldn’t fathom.
She didn’t deserve want to live. He did. But she also couldn’t die yet. He could not. She was selfish like him. She was freaked out used to it.
When she walked back in, her father gave her a few words.
„Don’t call the cops. You still are my good girl. Don’t make trouble.“
She nodded. Naturally. He was a good father. She would never give her good father with his bad daughter trouble. Still. Inside, she didn’t know why she cried like days before. She was weak disgusting waste of his love herself.
Hello everyone to the second episode! Today’s episode has a story that, while not in my favorites, is definitely worth listening to, especially since it makes you say „wait a minute-” out loud!
There once was a boy who lived in his house all alone. At school, he couldn’t say who his parents were. He didn’t know it. Nobody did. And nobody bothered.
His classmates talked about things he couldn’t understand. Magic, monsters, mysteries. Foreign words. Foreign world. But his teachers did their best. And while he didn’t know how to use it all, he knew every word, every book, every spell by heart.
But at night, when he laid his head on his old ragged up pillow, his dreams ran berserk. Strapped down, unknown environment, torturing questions. A new body. A new him.
He questioned the high mage of his school. They only gave him a few words and the advice to just keep his eyes and ears open. And that he did. He memorized the questions and searched for answers during the day. He did small talk, and made friends with the weird people.
And one day, he learned it all. He, his whole body and consciousness, was a trick. He was just an agent send to possess this poor boy, get information and help conquer this world. Naturally he told the high mage about this. They then decided to defend their world.
The boy naturally helped. He told them where they would attack, what spells were best, how to kill as many as possible. It was the quickest global cooperation ever seen in this world. And one day before the attack, he went back to his house again.
The old rug in the living room, the unsteady table in the kitchen, the broken mirror in the attic… Not traditionally broken, that is. Anyways. He said goodbye to it all. Who knew what would survive? Who would survive?
And with a heavy heart, he entered the attic. Taking an old blanket off the mirror, it didn’t show him. Instead, only his army, waiting to attack all the weak spots he created…
Caught you off guard, didn’t it? Me too, like so often. I hope you liked it! If so, leave a like and comment! See y’all!

FNM: "Good day everyone. I'm Emily Jong, and I am here with Princess Qing Ciutric of the Ciutric Hegemony, your highness thank you for speaking with me."
Q: "We are honored to speak to the public."
E: "Details have been sparse, what has been decided?"
Q: "A lot has been discussed, but rest assured, peace is the only option, and we all agree on this."
E: "Do you think there will be secession?"
Q: "It will be in the New Republic's response that determines it."
E: "So something will be presented to the New Republic?"
Q: "Yes. The Jedi Ovee, she will be making a speech in the Senate soon and presenting our request."
E: "What is your opinion on the situation?"
Q: "We have lived through so much, my father, died by the hand of Zsinj after years of being forced to serve the Empire and endure their punishment and humiliations after our support for the CIS, which we supported because of the generations of abuse and neglect from the Old Republic. We have learned we must make sure our people are able to defended ourselves, we cannot expect others to do so. History shows this."
E: "What about an overwhelming enemy force?"
Q: "We support cooperation against such a thing, but we cannot allow our sovereignty to be so undermined by outsiders."
E: "Do you support independence?"
Q: "We support peace, and friendship. We hope we can stay in the New Republic. but, there is a saying. Democracy can be two Barghests and a Nerf deciding what is for dinner. For it to work, there must safeguards and limitations to balance the power and prevent oppression."
E: "Sounds like you're not a fan of Democracy?"
Q: "Recognizing the limitations of a system is essential to ensuring it functions correctly. We can recognize the limitations and flaws of our monarchy, and with that ensure the limitations and flaws are accounted for. We can also recognize the limitations and flaws of Democracy, and with that ensure the limitations and flaws are accounted for."
E: "Thank you your highness."
Q: "We wish upon you good health, the blessing of the Ashla, and good fortune."

2024.05.28 17:29 Peacock-Shah-III The New Order of Cincinnatus National Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

The New Order of Cincinnatus National Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections
“We must all hang together or we shall all hang separately.”
Thus quipped Benjamin Franklin as the American colonies joined against the tyranny of George III, the phrase hangs heavy in the imaginations of today’s political opposition. Laden with fears of violence, Chairman Osro Cobb of the Progressive-Federalist National Committee announced the cancellation of the party’s presidential primaries and the formal acquiescence of the party to the Committee for the Preservation of the Republic’s call for a joint presidential nominating convention with the American Liberty League. Yet, with the organization’s President Thomas Schall, once seen as the nearly prohibitive favorite for the nomination, dying in an unforeseen car accident and populist contender Eduardo Chibas taking his own life on live radio, the attempt to unite the opposition must find a candidate able to carry both banners in the face of Philip La Follette’s campaign for a third term.

Clare Boothe Luce waves to her supporters.
Major Candidates:
The following candidates are seen as frontrunners for the nomination.
Clare Boothe Luce: 49 year old Clare Boothe Luce of Connecticut rose to prominence as Henry Luce’s scandal-ridden yet massively popular First Lady, whose charisma would lead to a popular joke that every Luce voter wished they had voted for Clare despite widely known allegations of mutual marital infidelity. Marrying Henry after divorcing her first husband and entering high society as the author of an all-female play, Luce would become First Lady at the young age of 38 and soon emerge as a face of the American home front amidst the Third Pacific War. Describing the nation as having become a “dictatorial bumbledom,” Luce has echoed the anti-New State ethos of the party and is seen as the candidate of establishment conservatives. Criticizing the very slogan of President La Follette, she has argued that the United States cannot “win the peace” as it has not truly won the war until the defeat of international communism. Clare has supported the Zionist project in Alaska, a unified military command to replace the Department of Peace, and the creation of a defense pact among American allies in the Pacific as the centerpiece of an aggressively interventionist foreign policy declaring “if we are no longer willing to fight for it, our Christian democracy is finished." Yet, Luce has also opposed the creation of a stronger international United Nations to replace the powerless Parliament of Nations.
Driven to Catholicism in 1946 following the death of her daughter, even as her ex-president husband gallivanted about with a girlfriend a thousand miles from his wife’s baptism, Luce has emerged as a changed woman, reportedly abandoning her affairs and entering a career in electoral politics with her 1946 election to the Senate. Though Aaron Burr Houston maintained a private devotion to the Church of Rome, Clare has taken her faith with a zeal heretofore unseen in American politics, using the Senate as a pulpit to preach against “materialism” and a spiritual decline as the root of both communism and fascism, slyly suggesting that the rise of the Pentecostal, Immannuelite, and Mormon faiths has come hand-in-hand with the nation’s fascist surge as she has publicly wished that “the whole world would be Catholic.” Despite defenses from Presbyterian former President Luce, Clare’s faith has weakened her amongst convention delegates fearing the alienation of firmly Protestant voters. Yet her charm, wealth, and ability to attract millions in funding from backers such as Henry Ford II while winning key endorsements such as that of Richard Nixon has catapulted her to the front of the field.
W. Lee O’Daniel: 62 year old Senator W. Lee O’Daniel, better known as Pappy, rose to prominence in his late 20s as an architect of domestic policy during Aaron Burr Houston’s third term, being largely credited with the introduction of an old age pension system funded by a consumption tax. After making his way to the fore of Texas politics on his own through the integration of musical numbers and a widely popular radio show with his political antics, O’Daniel would turn from an upset gubernatorial defeat in the 1938 midterms to organizing Aaron Burr Houston’s campaign for a fourth term in the White House as the nation’s last hope against Charles Lindbergh. Accused by critics of puppeteering a dementia ridden 86 year old out of his own lust for power, O’Daniel would serve as Secretary of the Treasury for a year before being unceremoniously removed from the cabinet by Henry Luce for his critique of the American attack on Pearl Harbor and opposition to the draft, leaving him in political isolation as the Texan distinguished himself by demanding the execution of striking laborers as crucial to the war effort over his radio show.
A steadfast isolationist, O’Daniel’s foreign policy views have made him a favorite among Liberty League libertarians. Depicting himself as nearly as conservative as Luce on domestic issues with an isolationist foreign policy able to appeal to the Midwest, O’Daniel has emphasized ties to the legendary ABH and anti-alcohol views he claims can over the rural South. O’Daniel has also sought to use Luce’s Catholicism into an issue, seeking the support of Ben Gitlow through their shared membership in the Evangelical Christian Right. Yet, O’Daniel has been seen as the least committed among the candidates to the Committee’s pro-democracy ideals, while others question his fitness for office based on his eccentric manners as a cabinet Secretary and Senator, with Eleanor B. Roosevelt’s 1936 running mate Dan Moody remarking that “Pappy is as lost at the Treasury as I would be in a circus trapeze.
Lucius D. Clay: A distant relative of former President Henry Clay, 54 year old General of the Army turned banker Lucius D. Clay of Georgia has been the subject of a draft movement seeking to secure a candidate with the allure of a war hero after an attack on right wing generals such as Harold George, “some of whom are my own classmates,” accusing them of leading the party astray with the nomination of the ultra-conservative Benjamin Gitlow. Clay has portrayed himself as the candidate of order, supporting, as the others do, the prosecution of Blackshirts and the freeing of prosecuted opposition politicians. However, Clay, a former administrator of Lindbergh-era public works programs, is the only candidate to stop short of supporting the abolition of the New State, with backers instead focusing on the renowned administrative talent that led Douglas MacArthur to quip that Clay “could run General Motors or General Bradley’s army.” Despite his reticence to campaign at the convention, Clay’s moderation, vague platform, connections, and war hero status have won over a significant segment of delegates.
John Sampson Cooper: Named for martyred Admiral William T. Sampson not long after the First Pacific War dramatically ended with the Second Battle of Hawai’i, 50 year old Kentucky Senator John Sampson Cooper has led an underdog campaign of moderate liberals led by young activists Mark Hatfield and Chuck Mathias and Tannenbaum territorial delegate Jacob Javits. Returning home from Yale to find his father on his deathbed and his beloved Pulaski County burned to the ground amidst the Revolution, Cooper would be elected to county leadership at age 24, famously responding to a legal requirement that he evict the impoverished by personally paying their debts, earning the moniker “the poor man’s judge” as he emerged as a major figure in post-Revolutionary reconciliation in Kentucky. Returning home once more from service as a military attache in the Third Pacific War, Cooper would oust incumbent Farmer-Laborite Jerry Spencer in a 1944 upset, delaying taking his seat to serve as a legal advisor to hundreds of thousands of displaced Indonesians before emerging as a Senate leader in bringing the United States closer to India and other nations newly liberated from colonialism.
While eschewing the isolationism of O’Daniel, Cooper has demonstrated a far more relaxed stand on foreign policy than Luce, opposing aggressive anti-communism abroad while depicting the United States as a great mediator of peace in situations such as the violence in Palestine or partition of India. The reported favorite of Fulgencio Batista despite Cooper’s criticism of Batista as insufficiently committed to democracy, the Kentuckian has managed to maintain a widespread popularity with labor that has led many to speculate that Cooper would be the only candidate able to win the endorsement of organized labor and an imprisoned John L. Lewis. Lacking the celebrity draw of Senator Luce, Cooper has countered with a far more detailed platform, calling for the opening of American borders to the world’s refugees, massively increased federal aid to education, and, in stances that have left him anathema to many party conservatives, support for universal health insurance, coal subsidies, and public housing. A self admitted “truly terrible public speaker," Cooper’s political independence has won him the support of Will Rogers Jr. and made him a favorite of the modern liberal wing of the Liberty League.

Roy Acuff strikes up the band.
Minor Candidates:
The following have significant support, but lag behind the frontrunner candidates.
Luis A. Ferre: Among the most grim results of the 1948 elections emerged from the Caribbean, where states once considered the most loyally anti-Farmer-Labor in America crossed the aisle for the first time in history. With strategists seeing the path to the presidency running through the island states, many among the electorally minded have flocked to 48 year old Puerto Rico Senator Luis A. Ferre, publisher of the nation’s largest Spanish language newspaper, El Nuevo Dia. A classically trained pianist who has focused his senatorial career on securing funding for the arts, Ferre has referred to the United States as the “moral summit of the world,” while aligning himself in the middle on economic policy, calling for “addressing the inequalities of society” by selling off public land at a low price and supporting federal public housing with an emphasis on rural revitalization, in addition to a call for a 4% Christmas bonus on the grounds of the Jesus Amendment.
James A. Rhodes: "Every time I take a position on an issue, I lose two percent of the people. If I do that 50 times, I have everybody mad at me," the quip encapsulates the philosophy of 43 year old Ohio Governor James A. “Jim” Rhodes and his backers. Emerging as the favorite of many convention delegates who have argued that the best path forward for a united campaign is a steadfast focus on bread and butter issues, Rhodes has remarked that “there are only three issues in this campaign: jobs, jobs, and jobs,” and has argued that any anti-La Follette campaign must focus on people’s lives and the economy, not vague notions of democracy and American ideals. Born in the hills of Appalachia, Rhodes would be forced out of college after failing every class, only to work his way into the Mayoralty of Columbus, before unexpectedly catapulting himself to the Ohio Governorship before the age of 40, where he has governed with a moderate conservatism focused on local issues such as water rights and a program to "put a college education within 25 miles of every boy and girl” that has been praised as a national model.
Roy Acuff: 49 year old Roy Acuff of Tennessee was christened “The King of Country Music” for smash hits such as Wabash Cannonball, leading fellow musician Hank Williams to quip “book him and you don’t worry about crowds…for drawing power in the South, it’s Roy Acuff, then God.” Yet, after a rumor that Governor Buford Elington had labeled his music “disgraceful,” Acuff would embrace the label “king of the Hillbillies” in the 1948 election cycle to trade his acoustic throne for the Governor’s chair. Declaring that “any business must be put on a business plan, and so must a state government,” Acuff has cut the budget while requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in government buildings, increasing state pensions, instituting a free school textbook program, cooperating with the La Follette Administration on the hydroelectric Tennessee Valley Authority, and has controversially called for additional restrictions on firearm ownership. Widely considered a possible frontrunner for his celebrity status if a primary were to have been held, Acuff has supported O’Daniel at the convention, yet has evasively refused to disavow a draft movement arising from his pro-union sympathies that many suspect could bring Fulgencio Batista into the fold alongside John L. Lewis, Jimmy Hoffa, and the opposition Farmer-Laborites.
Henry S. Breckinridge: The only member of the Liberty League at the fore of presidential consideration, 66 year old New York Congressman Henry Skillman Breckinridge ran alongside Al Capone in 1936 in the campaign that doomed the Commonwealth alliance, but has reinvented his career since by working to ally Federalist and Liberty League causes against La Follette and serving as the organization’s House leader. Advocating a heavily internationalist vision in line somewhere between that of Cooper and Luce, Breckinridge’s commitment to small government classical liberalism and a strict construction of the constitution has made him the favorite of Liberty League loyalists and some party conservatives. However, it is considered unlikely for a Liberty League member to win outright due to Progressive-Federalists comprising a majority of convention delegates.
Eleanor Butler Roosevelt: 63 year old former President Eleanor Butler Roosevelt was promoted for the nomination for months by her former counsel turned the “voice of impeachment,” Richard Nixon, who has noted that her re-election would have stopped the rise of fascism in its tracks. However, content with retirement, the writing of her memoirs, and the promotion of Nixon’s career, Roosevelt has categorically refused to seek the presidency. Nonetheless, she is expected to receive votes on the convention’s opening ballot from admirers.

Richard Nixon with the California delegation.
The Convention:
District of Columbia police scattered the Immanuelites, holding fliers declaring that their savior had prophesied nuclear armageddon on October 3rd of 1952, but they did not touch the Blackshirts. Ominously, they milled about in the blocks surrounding the convention, brandishing small arms and chants for Phil, as, within, the national convention of the Committee for the Preservation of the Republic proceeded without the pomp and circumstance conventions thrive in, a veil of despair lying over the nearly two thousand delegates in the plaza as they longed from their windows for days past. Further, a rule requiring two thirds of the convention for nomination, instituted by Liberty Leaguers fearful of a tyranny of the majority, would practically guarantee balloting periods stretching long into the night.
The first ballot would open with a surprise, as Roy Acuff rose to rebuff the acolytes of Fulgencio Batista. Pointing to the imprisoned Cuba Governor’s permissive policies towards gambling and prostitution, Acuff would draw a firm line between his pro-labor Christian conservatism and the “moral and political corruption” of Governor Batista. With the vociferousness of the singer’s vituperations and an unexpected willingness to attack Batista personally where other candidates stood largely silent, Acuff would find himself winning extensive support. With the rise of Roy Acuff splintering Pappy O’Daniel’s support, the former Secretary of the Treasury would find himself performing unexpectedly weakly, the beginning of a hemorrhage that would see his support move to Acuff in the first several rounds of balloting. Meanwhile, Clare Boothe Luce would take a lead out of the gate, but soon find that the collapse of Pappy O'Daniel's campaign following a wholesale defection to Acuff would lead other O'Daniel backers to rally behind Clay as an electable alternative. With Luce's lead dwindling, Cooper would swiftly capture her momentum, driving her to second place as a draft movement for Eleanor Butler Roosevelt peeled off dozens more Luce votes.

Ballot 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Lucius D. Clay 512 513 549 601 632 637 656
Clare Boothe Luce 646 641 619 599 529 515 514
John Sampson Cooper 277 282 308 310 366 368 369
Roy Acuff 46 101 112 165 187 188 170

Eleanor B. Roosevelt 1 1 1 19 31 38 38
Henry Skillman Breckinri-dge 21 21 21 21 19 17 15
With 1,310 delegates necessary to win the nomination, another half dozen rounds of balloting would bring no candidate anywhere near the necessary supermajority. Luce delegates would fiercely resist the rise of Lucius D. Clay, with Luce's manager Walter Judd and friend Anna Chennault illicitly spreading pamphlets accusing the General of being a plant of the regime to take control of the opposition. Yet, with his eyes on leading a reformed State Department, Pappy O'Daniel would stand back as his collapsing campaign gave its strength to Lucius D. Clay. Flatlining after several ballots with delegates consternated at the unwillingness of their chieftain to actively rally them, Roy Acuff's support would soon begin to bolt to Cooper and Clay, leaving Cooper to peak on the 11th ballot. However, a core of loyalist Acuff delegates would hold back the Kentuckian's momentum, as Lucius D. Clay covered ever closer to a majority. Yet, Clay would find himself having exhausted every avenue, with Acuff delegates reluctant to switch, and the block of Cooper and Luceites unwilling to come to the table. Further, a movement would begin to circumvent the squabbles of the major candidates and nominate General Curtis LeMay, the young face of the Pacific War. Yet, LeMay's role in the atomic bombings of millions of Japanese civilians would leave Senator Will Rogers Jr. to implore the convention not to proceed with the General as a compromise.

Ballot 8 9 10 11 12 13 14
Lucius D. Clay 659 661 692 712 739 744 744
Clare Boothe Luce 514 513 512 512 513 516 516

Henry Skillman Breckinri-dge 10 9 7 6 5 4 2
Curtis LeMay 1 2 12 13 13 13 13
The Convention would lock itself in deadlock as three ballots passed. The night as black as the shirts of the threatening bystanders, it would become clear that, with neither's supporters willing to concede to the other, neither Clay nor Luce would prevail. From Haitian Senator Elie Lescot to Convention Chair S.I. Hayakawa and General Claire Chennault, delegates would attempt to draft a compromise. On friendly terms with Luce and Clay alike, Chennault would nearly prevail, yet his dogged loyalty to the Liberalism of his youth would hold back his chances. The Liberals could veto a candidate, but they could never nominate one. Yet, Chennault would telegraph his wife Anna with a suggestion, a protege of his whose famed dogfights over the Pacific and haughty demeanor had bought him fame. A protege drummed out of his beloved Air Force for opposing the "Bomber Mafia" consensus of Curtis LeMay only to purchase a baseball team. A protege who survived eight airplaine crashes. A protege who had once been an aid to Hugh S. Johnson and who counts Charles Lindbergh among his friends, but who donated to the re-election campaign of "the voice of impeachment," Representative Nixon. A protege married to the heir to the Pulitzer fortune and media empire. A protege by the name of Elwood R. Quesada, but better known to friend and foe alike as "Pete." Bankers Fred Akers and George Garrett, friends of the dashing commander, would throw themselves in pre-organizing on his behalf, hiring demonstrators to spark what seemed an almost spontaneous movement.
Kate Quesada, once the young Kate Pulitzer who had defied high society to marry a hot tempered Major League Baseball player turned fighter pilot, would awake her husband before dawn to inform him that Professor Chennault from his Academy days had entered his name to be nominated for President of the United States, with delegate Milton Eisenhower casting the first vote. In the Convention's recess between the 16th and 17th ballots, Anna would go about printing hundreds of "Can't Beat Pete!" buttons, while working behind the scenes among those such as the Ohio delegation, long loyal to Jim Rhodes, winning second choice. Most importantly, she would win over Richard Nixon among the Luce delegates and Jimmie Davis among the supporters of Clay, portraying Quesada as capturing the party platform while holding the war hero's mystique. Taking things a step further, Chennault would pitch the ex-General as a moderate, a liberal, and a conservative at variance, refusing to let policy distract her from her central argument: the 48-year-old Quesada could win, Clay and Luce had proven they couldn't. The 18th ballot would see the deadlock broken as hundreds of supporters abandoned Luce and Clay alike for Quesada, by the 19th, Clay and Luce themselves would step back from their campaigns. With Luce admiring tales of Quesada's pre-flight rosaries and Clay on friendly terms, both would accept the compromise as supporters of the minor candidates such as Ferre and Rhodes rallied behind him. On the 20th ballot, with other candidates excepting Cooper falling behind Quesada, he would win the nomination, narrowly surpassing the 2/3 requirement before a motion to declare his nomination unanimous on the 21st ballot.
Ballot 15 16 17 18 19 20 21
Pete Quesada 0 0 1 368 734 1,379 1,954
Lucius D. Clay 744 744 743 503 402 98 0
Clare Boothe Luce 519 517 513 489 365 101 0
John Sampson Cooper 430 427 407 387 354 355 0
Roy Acuff 57 57 56 49 49 11 0
Pappy O'Daniel 3 3 3 3 3 3 0
James A. Rhodes 58 58 58 58 0 0 0
Luis A. Ferre 65 69 86 46 46 0 0
Eleanor B. Roosevelt 47 46 49 48 3 0 0
Henry Skillman Breckinri-dge 2 2 3 3 3 1 0
Curtis LeMay 13 12 12 1 0 0 0
Claire Chenault 2 3 3 1 0 0 0
S.I. Hayakawa 1 1 3 3 1 1 0
Elie Lescot 1 1 1 1 0 0 0
Louisiana Governor and former country musician Jimmie Davis, famous for "You Are My Sunshine," would come in third to S.I. Hayakawa, with California Senator Will Rogers a narrow second. Yet, many would worry that Hayakawa's Japanese ancestry would risk racist attacks so soon after the Third Pacific War, even as Americans reconciled with the now fallen sun across the ocean. Hayakawa's chances would be further weakened with the remark that “I would encourage insurrection in those poor crushed countries that have been under tyranny all these years.” Further, the death of Rogers' father by a fascist bomb and his military service would be contrasted with Davis's lack of either to paint Rogers as more compatible with the theme of a heroic ticket to rescue the nation from fascism. With the eccentric linguist's support set back, Hayakawa would endorse Rogers in the name of party unity, securing the Senator a third ballot victory despite significant support for Jimmie Davis across the South. Thus, at four o'clock in the morning on August 14th of 1952, the Committee for the Preservation of the Republic would adjourn its first national convention.
Senator Will Rogers Jr. of California, Cincinnatus nominee for the Vice Presidency.
Ballot 1 2 3
Will Rogers Jr. 838 947 1,329
S.I. Hayakawa 906 801 4
Jimmie Davis 209 208 523
Happy Chandler 1 1 1

A DC native, Pete Quesada would be in the convention hall at ten as it convened anew, meeting kingmakers and strutting through mobs of delegates as the party considered a series of resolutions on names. With a breakaway group led by legal Chairman Frank Chodorov suing the merger faction of the Liberty League, affiliated delegates would vote near unanimously to drop the title in favor of christening themselves anew with the old moniker of Liberal. Further, in an attempt to stress the status of the Preservationist nominee as a military hero, the convention would vote to adopt for its presidential ticket, and presidential ticket only, the partisan line of "Cincinnatus," after the New Order of Cincinnatus operating among oppositionists in Washington state and Alabama, and, of course, the Roman statesman who transformed his swords into plowshares after a brief tenure as leader of his republic in a time of crisis. With every delegate declared a member, the New Order of Cincinnatus would go national as the campaign vehicle of the Quesada and Rogers ticket.
A narrower vote would approve the use of the name "Law Preservation Party" for those candidates running without Progressive or Liberal affiliation.
Further, the party would approve a short platform, rejecting a suggestion from Quesada to enshrine an age limit for holding office while vowing:
  • First and foremost, to recognize no political principle other than the Constitution of the country, the Union of the states, and the enforcement of the law.
    • To bring about a renaissance in politics and to promote a Spartan-like devotion to honesty, cleanliness, efficiency, and economy in government.
    • To clean out graft, corruption, and hypocrisy in our public offices.
    • To modernize state, county, and local government and to eliminate all duplicating phases thereof.
    • To eliminate waste in governmental machinery and to work for a substantial reduction in the tax burden the average taxpayer is forced to bear.

Elwood R. \"Pete\" Quesada in flight gear after a demonstration of his aeronautical prowess to eager delegates.
With the end of procedural matters, Pete Quesada would rise to the stage for the first time, a handful of cheers greeting him. Omar Bradley once wrote that the dashing young Air Force General "could have passed for a prototype of the hot pilot, with his shiny green trousers, broad easy smile, and crumpled yet jaunty hat, but he was a brilliant, hard, and daring air-support commander on the ground," and his youthful smile upheld that characterization today, yet his face would soon turn grave as he began.
I think a military officer, regardless of what service he’s in, is improved if he handles unusual assignments...I look forward to being assigned by the American people to the White House! I believe every person has been put on this Earth for just one purpose—to serve his fellow man. It doesn’t matter how he does this. He can build a bridge, paint a picture, invent a labor-saving gadget, or run a gas station. The point is, he should try to leave the Earth a better place than he found it. If he does, his life will have been worthwhile. If he doesn’t do what he can within his own limitations, he is destined to be unhappy.” Comparing himself to his longtime friend Lindbergh, Quesada would continue with a chuckle, saying that “I'll have something to bounce off Lindy whenever he boasts too much about that little term he served.”
Promising without elaboration to defend “integrity, Americanism, fiscal responsibility, and courage,” Quesada would speak on foreign policy, declaring that the United States had won a war on tyranny, and that “Korea remembers. Indonesia remembers. The Philippines remember..to abandon them is to tell the Free World that they cannot depend on the United States.” Further, he would note that while "“I abhor war," he stands firm in a belief that "we can maintain peace only through strength.
Moving to domestic matters, Quesada would claim that “a government is the servant, not the master,” declaring that “Fascism has been wasted effort...middle class, sincere decent people, need to regain the influence they’ve lost over the past decades," while arguing that “there are too many intellectuals in government who have no experience in management in which the majority’s will is to be followed.” Quesada would accuse the government of being led by “men of limited imagination" and “those who postponed making decisions," promising to “weed out the incapable and inefficient." Then, in a tacit move of comparison between the man the convention styled as a latter day Cincinnatus and the incumbent dynamo who had energized so many Blackshirts, Quesada would declare that "the more I see the more I realize there is a difference between men.
Quesada would turn to the party's past failures and shock many delegates by placing them directly at the feet of the opposition itself, claiming that "an examination of these failures reveals contributory negligence on the part of ourselves, discord and a lack of confidence in our forces.” The convention looked on with bated breath as Pete Quesada, infuriated by the fear among the delegates assembled, raised his voice for the shouted words that have entered immortality as the most famous words of his campaign, screaming from his microphone into millions of American homes and newspaper headlines that:
"Our whole country is stopped by a tinpot dictator that tossed a few dozen of us into jail! Follow the light which leads to truth and we will prevail, history will show we saved the day...
THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO FEAR IS FEAR ITSELF!"

2024.05.28 10:41 ResolutionOk3169 Poor Behaviour by Will Executors

Hi all, I [34M] am looking for clarification of my understanding or perhaps advice should anyone have been through a similar experience. (Edit: Location - England).
My paternal grandmother passed away in January 2023. My father and his brother are the executors of the will; they have disagreed upon almost everything in relation to the management of the estate despite the fact there is will in place and the estate isn't complex. It is their inability to cooperate which has meant the process has not moved along as it should. This is as much as I know, because neither are being particularly forthcoming with information despite them both placing me 'in the middle' and my subsequent attempts to mediate.
Disappointingly, last month my uncle told another family member that I am a beneficiary of the will, which made its way back to me. I have not been told this at any point by either my father or uncle, and to note, they have both independently told me they themselves are the only beneficiaries.
My understanding is, as only a beneficary myself:
  1. I am not legally required to be notified of being a beneficary until probate has been officially settled, and,
  2. I have no legal right to input into how the executors are managing the estate (i.e. put the pressure via my solicitor) - I simply have to let them 'get on with it' for want of a better term.
Unfortunately, their collective behaviour is driving a wedge through our family which I already believe will not survive, so I am not concerned about managing their emotions at this stage. My goodwill to assist them both has now been exhausted, especially given the recent revelation.

2024.05.28 06:42 AverageGatsby91 A look at the TUF 32: Grasso vs Shevchenko Featherweight Roster

TUF 32 begins airing next week on June 4th and I wanted to take some time to research the announced roster. This will be a short breakdown of all the fighters touching on their backgrounds, who they train with and a first glance impression of their fighting styles. I will include a link to a fight for each fighter that in my opinion illustrates their fighting style. If this gets good feedback I will put together a similar post for the Middleweight roster. Lets get into it!
Edwin Cooper Jr (6-1)
Training out of Jackson Wink MMA, Cooper has a decent level of competition under his belt already with several fights in LFA and an appearance on the PFL Challenger Series with a combined opponent record of 23-6-1. A graduate of the University of Iowa where he competed in wrestling and was regularly a top competitor, Cooper relies mostly on a ground and pound style, prioritizing position over submission. He is well rounded with his striking and uses it effectively to get to the takedown.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqsGEuDXKiU
Nathan Fletcher (8-1)
Training out of Next Generation MMA with the likes of Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann, Fletcher has spent the entirety of his career in Cage Warriors, with a combined opponent record of 49-10, competing at Bantamweight where he also spent most of his Amateur career at 18 years old where he went 6-1. Fletcher has excellent BJJ, is incredibly slick with his transitions and is not afraid to throw elbows from top position. Fletcher was undoubtedly on his way to the UFC but unfortunately was sidelined with a medical issue in late 2023 preventing him from competing for the CW Bantamweight Title delaying a UFC debut. Fletcher should be the favorite to win the 145 lb bracket.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNAODlB0b84
Zygimantas Ramaska (9-2)
Training out of Ukmerge Judo Club and a World Combat Sambo champion at 71kgs, winning gold in 2021, Ramaska has competed in local Lithuania organizations since 2016 from the age of 18 with a combined opponent record of 85-29-5. Ramaska shows a well rounded game with several wins by both KO and Submission but is a brawler at heart in contrast to his Sambo background. He uses all his weapons well throwing powerful strikes with his hands, legs and knees. Ramaska is relentless when he has his opponent hurt but also has a tendency to brawl while chasing the finish and may also lack cardio with no wins on his record by decision.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6uDqrvafK4
Roedie Roets (7-1)
Training out of Guts and Glory MMA in South Africa, Roets became an IMMAF World Champion at 155 lbs in 2016 before competing professionally for the premier South African organization EFC with a combined opponent record of 30-23-1. Roets began his amateur career winning with a wide variation of submissions including armbars, key locks and heel hooks but has won the majority of his professional bouts via KO/TKO. Roets lacks competition against experienced opponents which is common for South African fighters. Regardless, Roets is an exciting fighter and has one of the most interesting submissions I've seen in a long time in which he submitted Serge Kasanda by rear naked choke from the north/south position.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzQ9WoF6Ut0&t
Bekhzod Usmonov (11-4)
Our second fighter training out of Jackson Wink MMA, Usmonov is the first fighter in TUF history to directly come from competing in Bare Knuckle Boxing where he has a record of 1-1 with the loss being to Jimmie Rivera. If he were to join the UFC I’m fairly sure he would also be the first fighter on the roster to have experience in that organization. Usmonov is likely the most pure striker on the TUF roster having also competed in Muay Thai with a record of 37-5-1 and lacks competition against experienced MMA fighters with a combined opponent record of 49-31. Usmonov is also one of the smaller fighters this season to compete at 145, having competed as low as Flyweight during his MMA career but as of recently competed in bare knuckle at 150lbs. Usmonov should be an interesting addition to the roster with a different skill set than the UFC is usually looking to add to the TUF rosters.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Ve_hpLUdM
Guillermo Torres (7-1)
Fighting out of Mexico, Torres is a wrestler turned KO artist and the oldest fighter on the TUF roster at 37 years old. Guillermo Torres achieved Silver in Freestyle Wrestling at the Pan American Games all the way back in 2011 and has since transitioned to MMA making his debut at CBF MMA on an episode of Dana Whites Lookin’ For a Fight in 2018. He currently trains under the tutelage of Henry Cejudo where he was his primary training partner for his fight with Aljamain Sterling at UFC 288. Torres has clearly adapted some of Cejudos fighting style into his own. He can fight from both southpaw and orthodox and has a well rounded striking style with most of his wins coming by KO/TKO including one by body kick.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6mxYjoYoio
Kaan Ofli (11-2-1)
Training out of Absolute MMA and Conditioning in Australia and the child of Turkish Immigrants, Ofli has spent most of his career competing in local organizations like Eternal and Hex where he became their 145lb champion. Ofli is a patient and well rounded fighter but still relies mostly on his wrestling to get the job done. Ofli defense leaves a lot to be desired. He takes a lot of damage in his fights but has never been finished and has mostly been able to stay in the fight against more experienced strikers due to his iron chin. Back in 2018 Ofli was featured on an episode of Rich Franklins ONE Warrior Series in which he speaks in great detail about financial and family hardship. Ofli lost his father who had just come back into his life, was hospitalized due to a car accident and was fired from his job because of it, all within the space of a month. Ofli will definitely be featured as one of the bigger sob stories of the season.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjg35hOawAc&t
Mairon Santos (13-1)
Training out of Parana Vale Tudo in Brasil, Santos is a powerful striker that does not lack BJJ or grappling experience. Santos has been competing in Brasil since he was 18 years old and is the youngest fighter on the roster at 23. Santos fights with an upright Muay Thai style similar to fighters coming out of Chute Box. With a 54% finish rate, all by KO, Santos’s sole loss came from another TUF alumni, Daniel Arguetta under the LFA banner. As the youngest fighter on the roster it is expected Santos would lack experience against top opponents with a combined opponent record of (67-56) but as of recently has taken on greater challenges while competing for LFA and Shoot Brasil.

Edit: Thanks for the wonderful feedback everyone! I really just did this for fun and as an excuse for myself to learn a little about all the fighters this season. I will definitely have a version of this coming out for the Middleweights in the next couple of days!

2024.05.28 06:28 Av1oth1cGuy What is the reason behind Imam of Mahdi's remaining in occultation despite there are Shiite governments in the world?

Source: islamquest.net

Concise answer:

The occultation of the Imam of Time (atf) does not mean that the Imam is living a paranormal or different life. For example, he is not living in a cave and the likes of such places. In fact, according to some traditions the Imam is living among the people in a way such that he is not recognized. The only difference between the Imam and the ordinary people is in the longevity of the former's life which is with the will and power of God, the Exalted. There are reasons behind occultation of the Imam (atf) some of which have been explained and some have remained unknown and unheard of. Also, there are certain conditions and requirements for the Imam's reappearance which have not yet been met. One of those conditions is that the Imam (atf) is in need of 313 special friends or companions in addition to the ordinary followers. Finally, considering the narrations and that the present Iranian government enjoys jurisprudential and narrative legitimacy, the present government can be considered as favorable and conducive to the global government of the Imam of Time, may Allah hasten his reappearance.

Detailed Answer:

To clarify the answer, we must make mention of the following points:
  1. What the Shiites believe concerning the Imam of Time (atf), and which the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and also the infallible Imams (a.s.)[1] have pointed out is all the Imam's occultation, not hiding in a cave or a cellar. Some say only out of mockery that Shiites believe that the Promised Mahdi (pbuh) hid, after his birth in a cellar (the underground of Imam Hasan's house in Samarra) wherefrom he started his occultation and he is living in that cellar. However, if we examine the reported traditions in this regard, we will come to know that such allegations are baseless and unwarranted.[2]
The concept of the occultation of the Imam of Time (atf) can never be in the sense that the Imam shall be invisible and illusory during the period of occultation. In fact, he lives an objective and natural life but his life is long and he lives amongst the people in the society. If there is an exception in his life, it is because he has a lived long life.[3]
It has been said in our ahadith that the Imam of Time (a.s.) is living among the people in a way such that he is not recognized. He attends public gatherings and the hajj ceremony and he also helps people solve some of their problems.[4]
  1. The reasons behind the occultation of the Imam of Time (atf): There are reason for the Imam's occultation some of which have not been made clear for us and some others remain unknown and hidden to us. Some of the reasons for the occultation of the Imam of Time can the following: 1. Test and examination of God's servants;[5] 2. Avoidance from giving allegiance to the tyrants;[6] 3. Protecting the faithful children of the unbelievers. It has been narrated from Imam Sadiq (a.s.) that he said that God has placed in the unbelievers' loin[7] the sperm of faithful individuals. It is for the same reason that Imam Ali (a.s.) refrained from killing the disbelieving fathers so that faithful children might be born to them. Thereafter, if he got a hand on them, he would kill them. Also, the Rising of our Ahlul-Bayt will not reappear until the divine deposit comes out of the loins of the unbelievers and then he will reappear and kill the unbelievers.[8]
As was said earlier, the entire reasons behind of the occultation of the Imam are not known to us. It has also been said that the infallible Imams are well aware of the reason behind the occultation but they have not been commanded to reveal it. For this reason, they have mentioned the wisdom and reasons behind the Imam's occultation in a general way. Shaykh Saduq in his book 'Elalush - Sharayeh' has narrated from Abdullah-ibn-Fazl Hashami as saying: I heard Sadeq Aal-e-Muhammad saying: 'For the 'Saheb-e-Amr (Master of the Affairs) there shall occur an occultation during which every men of vanity will fall into doubt and skepticism.'
I said: May I be sacrificed for you. For what reason?
He replied: For a reason which we are not at liberty to divulge.
I asked: What is the reason for Hazrat's Occultation?
He replied: The reason for Hazrat's Occultation is similar to the reason for concealment of the past Divine Proofs.
The reason behind Mahdi's occultation will not be disclosed but after his emergence just as the reason of Hazrat Khizr's actions (meaning the drilling of a hole in the boat, the killing of a lad and the repairing of the wall) was not divulged until Musa and Khizr decided to part company. O son of Fazl, this affair is a divine affair, this secret is a divine secret and this concealment is a divine concealment. We must accept that all His actions are based on Wisdom, even if the reason for them is not known to us.[9]
  1. Conditions of Reappearance of the Imam of Time: In order to create a global community based on peace and harmony through implementation of justice and fairness, the Mahdi will have to correct the situation from its origins so that all kinds of conflicts that have marred human society should be resolved. Such a task, even today with the creation of a world body like the United Nations, has not been easy to achieve. Such an international movement would have to do a tremendous amount of work to prepare people in every way to respond adequately to ensure its success. The religious nature of the revolution demands that it should arise from the depths of the people's souls. Consequently, the promised Mahdi will not appear so long as human beings have not attained the level of perfection that is necessary to accept the government of truth.[10]
Hisham bin Sālim narrates that Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Hazrat Mahdi (atf) will not appear until all sections of the people have assumed power." Thus nobody will say "If we were in power and had formed a government we would have behaved justly. [11]

Four kinds of preparations are necessary in order for the world to accept such government:

A) Intellectual and Cultural Preparation: It means that the level of the thoughts of the people of the world develops in a way such that they understand the issue “race” and “different geographical regions” are not notable issues in human life; the difference in the colors, languages and lands cannot separate humans from each other.
B) Social preparation: The people of the world should become tired of oppression and injustice and available systems and feel the bitterness of this material and one-dimensional life, and even become disappointed of solving current problems by continuing this one-dimensional way.
C) Technological and communicational preparation: Contrary to what some persons assume that reaching the level of social perfection and a world full of peace and justice will certainly be possible by way of the destruction of modern technology, existence of these developed industries does not disturb a fair universal government and even, it may not be possible to achieve such goal without that. Miracle is a logical exception in the current system of the nature, for proving the legitimacy of a divine religion, not for governing the society forever. This act should be performed based on natural laws.[12]
D) Individual preparation: The universal government of Mahdi needs ready and human-valued individuals, before anything else, who can bear the heavy weight of such expanded corrections; and firstly, it needs the increment of intellectual, awareness and spiritual and mental readiness level for cooperation in execution of this great program. The important point is that the one who is really waiting for such an important program cannot be the spectator, and should stand in the row of real reformists.[13]
Also, the Imam needs 313 companions who bear special conditions. Imam Jawad (a.s.) has been reported to have said to Abdul Azim Hasani: “When 313 sincere people gather for him, God will reveal his matter.”[14]
It becomes clear from the above as to why the Imam of Time (a.s) did not appear despite the presence of Shiite governments like Buwaihids and Safavids’.
Additionally, we should say that according to the Shiite point of view, authority belongs to God and those who have been appointed by Him. During the time of the occultation of the Imam of Age (atf), only a qualified jurist can take the leadership of the Ummah (nation) not tyrant rulers and sultans, even though they may be Shiites. That is because such a government is the government of taghut (tyranny or devil).[15] It is for the same reason that the Shiite scholars and jurists have never endorsed these governments in a complete way. Of course, they preferred these governments over non-Shiite governments for promotion and consolidation of Shi'ism, Shiites[16] and their protection from any harms. For example, Shaykh Saduq (r.a) despite having relations with the Buwaihids and attending in their scientific gatherings did not consider cooperation with the tyrant governments as permissible.[17]
Allamah Majlisi who lived in the Safavid period enumerates three conditions for the permissibility of associating with the rulers: Firstly the intention should be to do Taqiyah (dissimulation), secondly, the aim should be to avert harm from an oppressed person or to do favor to a Momeen (Shiite Muslim) in which case it will become obligatory also. Thirdly, the association should aim at guiding the tyrant and oppressive rulers.[18] Muslim scholars did not cooperate with the tyrants to the extent that they would hold E’tekaf (Worshipping in Seclusion) in the mosque which had been built by King Abbas.[19] Having said this, it becomes clear that although these were Shiite governments, they did not deserve to be endorsed and supported by Shiite scholars. In addition, they did not have the necessary power.
What has to be said about Iranians and the present government of Iran is that according the sayings of the Infallibles, the Iranians have considerable contribution in helping the Imam of Time and in his reappearance. There are relevant narrations about the people of Qom and Taliqan and the Persian tribe in general. For example it has been narrated in Behar al-Anwar that Imam Sadiq (a.s.) recited the Quranic verse “We dispatched servants of Ours to inflict server violence upon you (all)”. The narrator says, I enquired the Imam as to who they are. The Imam then said thrice: “By Allah, they are the people of Qom.”[20]
In addition, according to narrations reported by Shiite and Sunni reporters, Imam Mahdi (atf) will reappear after a preliminary movement (which is applicable to the Islamic revolution) and there will be Persian men in his army who pave the way for his government and leadership. There is an all out agreement in the narrations that the two promised figures e.g. Sayyid Khurasani or Hashemi Khurasani and his friend Shu’aib bin Saleh are Persians (Iranians).[21]
Considering the narrations and that the present Iranian government enjoys jurisprudential and narrative legitimacy, the present government can be considered as favorable and conducive to the global government of the Imam of Time, may Allah hasten his reappearance because fear of the tyrants (which is desirable for protection of the religion not for fear of one’s life) is only one of the causes of the occultation. As we mentioned, there are also other reasons for the Imam’s occultation.

2024.05.28 01:53 TheBeeSharps88 I think I'm losing the war on tech

Son is 6 with Audhd and of course youtube/Netflix and Disney + were a thing thruout preK and Kinder with covid keeping us in so much. He does enjoy nature but the catch is - I work in special education as an EA, It's my 6th year but first perm full time, and I'm tired all the time or just trying to be sensible in not over scheduling us. Plus I'm single so all house work and paperwork that goes with him lands on me and I have an elder father in long term so theres that, painting the picture...
He won't stop with nintendo switch , he can't be torn off from home time to bedtime.. he's happy and cooperative and no major meltdowns when I finally pry it from him, (agh I sound weak) . I cant get the lingo down to get him to cooperate. I want harmony and responsibility in our home. Am I corrupted by gentle parenting here? I know both the conflict and the over use of gaming are stressor.. but I can't find the line. 1 hour? Half? Earn it? Tech detox?! Run away into the woods?
but I also can't personally entertain him and direct all his questions and concerns constantly. I cant figure out how to get him back to playing stationary toys again. Whats something your kids are into? He's still somewhat delayed to be playing games with rules or complicated building, I guess burnout and etc, I don't know where to start. How to structure the game time better or reinstall childhood wonder to over ride the dopamine deficit that is quenched only by Tech!!

2024.05.28 00:30 Mikasa_Audrey Insurance cancelled over not finishing child support against deserted bio dad

I filed for child support against my sons father who deserted a little over two years ago. I filed back in February, I’ve changed addresses and moved and have been really busy so I wasn’t keeping up with it much, I just got my address mostly updated on everything. My ex was in jail anyways so I didn’t think much of it and nothing much would be done until he got out.
I just recently found out my partner and I are pregnant, I’m about be going to have a confirmation test done and was gonna schedule an appointment with a local OBGYN. Until I found out that my insurance got canceled because I “failed to cooperate with child support services”. How is this a thing that can happen? What do I do? I don’t know what to do as I need to get in for prenatal care but now my insurance is canceled and I’m not even the one who deserted. What’s going on? Can someone help give some insight?

2024.05.27 23:31 InfluenceEvening5122 I don't know what to do anymore

Throwaway and TW abuse, self harm, SA. I'm gonna just get into everything.
I'm a 27yo M and I feel like my life isn't going to get any better. I know that's a common sentiment but truly I have tried to look at how things could improve from every angle and it looks bleak.
Believe me, there is this spirit in me that wants to keep fighting and wants to figure it out and try to stay positive. The more I look at it, the more it feels like the best option is to just end it in a way my family doesn't have to know about. I want to go back to school and get my degree since I'm only one semester away, but due to a disagreement between my mother (my parents are split) and I, she reversed my student loans leaving me with an active balance of about ~$7k with the university. I barely even make enough for rent so coming up with that was already daunting. Because it's an active balance, I can't try and negotiate a payment plan or look into forgiveness. I need $7k in hard cash before I can even get my transcript again. It's been 5 years now. It's not like I don't have valuable skills - I work in IT and have several certifications and experience. A lot of times I will figure things out more quickly than other coworkers (I don't think this makes me better than them but after working so many jobs that I struggled with like food service I am seeing that I have strengths in this field comparatively). I just always self sabotage.
This past month I've been in a horrible depressive episode mostly just laying in bed. I stopped going to my job because I didn't feel welcome anymore. I worked at a very female-centric university for about 2 years which I really did enjoy. I felt welcomed at first and it did help me address my fear of women a little bit I'm really nervous about making people uncomfortable with unwanted advances. It took me a long time to work up the courage to get my first kiss and even then it was forced and I guess that fucked me up a bit. Now I can't tell what's appropriate when so I just don't engage usually, which really sucks because I see people that I want to tell them how I feel but I'm like what's the point I'm just going to bother them. It's crazy because I have been with a good amount of people but it was mostly online dating. Maybe that speaks to my character further having been with so many people that didn't stick around.
Growing up, my dad didn't have a lot of friends or really go out since he was an addict. We never really had dances or social things like that at home and my dad was devout Catholic so I went to private school for a while. I can see now how that affects my social skills and of course I want to overcome it. I try not to be angry at the hand I've been dealt so I try to go out and learn and grow. It's so fucking hard. I know getting out of your comfort zone is never going to be easy. But I seriously feel like I need help navigating these spaces and I don't know how to ask without everybody writing me off even more than they already do. I don't want to bother anyone either. I hate asking for help but I really do want to get better. I danced with one girl I didn't know a while ago at some 80s themed thing and I actually really enjoyed it even though I was terrified. Since then though, I haven't been able to work up the courage to ask anyone else.
I've found the raving community to be very helpful and welcoming but idk. I DJ but it feels like maybe I just don't know the vibes or something. Maybe I'm just not good. It's never been successful. It still feels like there's a barrier between me and other people and where I want to be. I try to be as kind and friendly as possible but again I don't want to bother people. I don't know what it is about me but I feel like I just linger and I hate it. I would hate talking to me so I get why people don't. I feel like I'm too far gone to reprogram that. It's an issue with my core personality. It gets even worse when I'm attracted to someone because I tell myself you don't even like yourself, why would they like you? I can't help how I feel though. Of course I want to act on my feelings and be involved. I love being affectionate. It feels like there's just no way people would ever know unless they gave me a chance. I don't like being on that end. I just want to be looked at how they look at other dudes. I don't think I'm ugly. I've been told I'm not. I guess I just don't have anything to offer. So I just end up acting awkward. I've had a thought that maybe girls do want me to talk to them and I don't and they think I'm rude for that. I try to make my compliments genuine and not like stupid (I hate pickup lines). I like to go up to a girl and tell her she looks gorgeous and see her light up. I just feel wrong for it.
The only girl I've ever truly felt at home with (we'll call her M) was my middle school crush. I remember seeing her walk through the halls at the school I just transferred to and I noticed her instantly. I never thought a girl like that would go for me. Turns out, her sister had a crush on me. When she told me, I told her. She ended up being my best friend for almost 13 years. We lost our virginities together in high school and throughout the years would float into each other's lives. It never did work out, though. Either one of us would move or I would do something stupid. When we did hook up that first time, I bragged to my football team that it happened. I told her about it thinking she would love that I was so elated. Stupid shit like that. Well, fast forward to my dad passing away in 2019. I was living with my gf at the time since my mom messing with my loans left me homeless. I hadn't talked to M in maybe 3-4 years when she messaged me out of the blue. I didn't know what to do but I fucked up. We ended up seeing each other and she wanted to be with me. Ultimately, I chose to stay with my gf since I felt that she was less likely to walk out on me. It was a hard decision. I don't think it was fair to anyone. I tried not to look back but I would look up her socials every once in a while and saw that she was engaged. Ship sailed. Tried to be appy she was happy. Didn't really like the guy but maybe he was better than me.
Until she called me one night. 3 years later, out of the blue. She was bawling her eyes out saying she needed her oldest friend. He had assaulted and violated her multiple times, even put her in the hospital. It wasn't the first time. I'd confronted some of her previous abusive ex's. This was the first time she was engaged though, with the whole family pressuring her. That same family that was so emotionally abusive towards her, that I had helped keep her safe from. She felt trapped. For the first time in my life maybe, I felt like I was exactly where I was meant to be. I had finally stabilized over the last year after my gf and I split and I was left with our house. I was actually about to leave to be with my mom in CA when I landed the university job and stayed. I had been getting out more and getting into raving. Her calling felt like fate. Even more so, I didn't want my best friend to suffer like that. I'd seen my mom go through it enough. I told her that even if nothing works out with us, she shouldn't marry this asshole. During that call, he pulled up as she had left the house because she didn't feel safe. I knew it was serious. Throughout the next few months, I helped her come up with a plan to get out (shout out to abuse victim resources, seriously). She was able to tell her friends and they even helped her find a new place to stay. I offered but she was understandably hesitant.
I can't lie, I was really happy. I felt awful that she'd gone through what she did but I was glad that she called and I could at least do something. And I was glad that maybe I had a chance to make things work. It felt like fate. I would think about her all the time. She was the one I wished was with me at every festival or concert. When we finally did meet again, she was honestly even more beautiful than when I'd last seen her. She would tell me about all the things that she wished she could do but her fiancé wouldn't let her anymore and they were all things I loved. We started dating again soon like we'd never left off. We'd do everything together and always have a great time. I remember one night we went to a concert and it was lame so we left early and got stuck in traffic but the whole time we were talking and that was enough to make it so fun. We were one of those rave couple that watched out for others and introduced new people to their first time. We made so many friends and they called us lightning in a bottle. I wanted it to be for real this time.
I can't really say when it started to fall apart. I think right from the beginning I was so worried about her that it made me obsessive. Sometimes she would go out with her friends (which I wanted for her) but I wouldn't hear from her and I would get worried...and a little jealous. I still wasn't feeling confident in the normal bar scene so I didn't go out with them much. I did want to but I was afraid of embarrassing myself. Still hadn't even really danced with anyone at this point. I also blamed myself for her fiancé. If I had just treated her right she wouldn't have met him and gone through that. So what if I fuck it up again? I think this started a cycle of me panicking, making rash decisions, then trying to fix those with more poor decisions. A common theme was me drunk texting other girls when I didn't hear from her. I was scared of what would happen if she left. Where would I be? Of course I know how this comes off. I loved her. Fear is just that powerful of a motivator for me. I thought the hurt would be devastating.
Around the 4 month mark is where it really started to turn. Her father passed in a very horrible way. M had told me a lot over the years. Their relationship was estranged but she always wanted the best for him. He didn't even leave a note. It hit her hard, especially being the oldest on that side of the family. Again, it was like I was put there for a reason. I felt I could really understand how she felt. Probably the only couple in the world that could pull off fire dead dad jokes...at the funeral. That's how we tried to approach everything bad - holding each other and laughing at how bizarre this world can be. I still miss her sense of humor. The trip to see her father, a man I knew so much about and yet only met at his funeral, was probably the last happy moment for us.
I'd never really liked M's family for how they treated her. They reminded me a lot of how my dad and stepmom treated me and I didn't like that. But I wasn't going to get in the way of their relationship, I always considered myself on M's side no matter what. It was difficult to be around them - her grandfather was abrasive and racist, her grandmother was manipulative, and I had been through too much shit not to call it out when I saw it. They didn't like that I wasn't a pushover like her fiancé. So going to a weekend cookout at their house for M's birthday was daunting. M wasn't crazy about it but wanted to humor them and I was up for it. I ended up getting really overwhelmed and drunk. I tried to sleep it off but I couldn't get away from all the negative thoughts so I just started walking toward the highway. M tried to chase me in her car and I didn't want her to so I chucked a bottle in her direction. Her family saw it. Doesn't really make it better but I hadn't been trying to hit her. I just wanted to get away. That made things worse so I ended up running into some woods nearby. Got really lost and wouldn't cooperate. Eventually as the sun set I started to sober and realized it was serious and somehow made it out.
We broke up after that but kept talking. I got back on my meds and started going to therapy a lot more intensively. Things started to look better around a month or so later. She wanted to do something for our 6-month mark, try to fix it. I don't know why I thought this was a good idea but I wanted to invite one of our other friend couples for like a double date/party at my house. Mostly because I was out of drugs and thought it'd be nice to have some. Well, I ended up getting too zoinked on x and trying to start a 3-way. Still don't really know what I was thinking. M found out and was devastated. The comedown was so harsh I went crazy and ended up taking her car saying I was just gonna leave forever and trying to slit my wrists in the bathroom tub. Easily the worst night of my life. She had even made me a little painting saying she loved me forever. It was the thing from her I hung onto the longest.
We somehow kept talking and met up a few weeks later. I didn't want her to leave. I was grasping at straws at this point. She stayed a few days but finally had to. After that, she started to get overwhelmed and said she didn't know if she wanted to do it anymore. I kinda went crazy and texted her a lot trying to get her to respond so we could talk. She didn't for a couple days. In one of those texts, I asked if I needed to come up to her job. I wasn't serious (I didn't have a car and was trying to prove a point) but I guess that was the one that really made her panic. She reported it to her work's security and it turned into a whole thing. Nothing happened to me and I don't know how true this is but she told me a few months later that it got her fired. I really didn't mean for that to happen.
Over the next few months, I tried everything I could to fix it. I transferred to a campus closer to her and gave up everything in the small little hope that it might show her I was serious. Ended up living with my grandma and tried to work on myself. I tried talking to her family and friends. When M did talk to me it was nothing but disdain. She would tell me about how she was happier and meeting better people. That she figured I only saved her so I could trap her myself. I remember she called me a convenience that wasn't very convenient and straight up evil. It's never fun to be on the sharp end of wit like that I guess. It fucked me up pretty good. No one has ever been able to get through to me like she does. I feel like I deserved it.
After a while, missing her turned into something else. I got transportation and started rebuilding my life. The more I thought about it though, the more angry I would get. Not just at what had happened recently, but all of it. I felt as though she had just lied about loving me and used me as a backup all those years. I remember her friend saying "Not all of us have a [my name] to call". On top of that, we ended up in some of the same scenes and her friends got me banned. So I started to bite back with some fucked up things. She blocked me on everything after I kept drunk calling her so I contacted her through temporary numbers. Even faked my own death. It wasn't about getting her back anymore. It was mutual destruction.
Eventually, she found a boyfriend and I moved on. Got my own place again. Still reeling from all this, I ended up developing a crush on a coworker. I have a principle not to get involved with people from my job but I really felt like I had found potential. It took a lot of work to win her over. I basically did everything I had been too scared to do in relationships before. I actually got out of my comfort zone. I tried to do things right. We got involved but I don't think she ever really had feelings for me. She was just really mean. Maybe I deserved that too.
The coworker wouldn't leave me alone after we broke up for good. I told her that once I was moving on I couldn't go back. Not after M. She kept asking about me and somehow kept seeing me on campus. I knew she what she was doing and I was fed up and I didn't want to go to work. I couldn't transfer again due to some internal politics. I figured hey might as well shoot for unemployment.
So that's where I'm at. As of right now, it doesn't look like my plan is going to work. I didn't think it would. I can't find employment due to a court case I'm stuck in right now. I know M will never come back after everything that's happened. I don't think I'll be able to find anyone I feel the same way about, or that feels that way about me. I guess my only options right now are to pour everything I have into my music or just fade away. I don't see the music thing working out though. I've been doing it for almost a decade and it never does.
I'm not proud of anything I wrote here. I would like to make that clear. I expect a lot of judgement and honestly feel that I deserve it. Maybe that's why I'm writing this. I don't know. Thanks for reading.

2024.05.27 21:58 InGenNateKenny Big Walder Frey and the Trojan Horse of Winterfell

This is a pureasoiaf version of a theory I posted in asoiaf earlier today!
Most are familiar with Cantuse’s Night Lamp theory about the battle in the ice in TWOW; Stannis defeats the Frey army by luring them into the ice lakes at the crofter’s village. The core idea is popular and accepted. What happens next is not as widely accepted. Stannis winning the battle in the ice still leaves Roose Bolton and his army occupying Winterfell. What is Stannis and his army to do to capture the castle and win the north?
There are a few ideas, but the "theory” lacks a universal name like Night Lamp. BryndenBFish may be the source of the original idea and I know u/The_Coconut_God, u/BaelBard, and u/bewildered_baratheon have written variations. I will dub these theories as the “Trojan Horse of Winterfell” for reference’s sake. The Trojan Horse of Winterfell is not only a corollary/sequel to the Night Lamp theory, but it is also a Pink Letter theory. Allow me to offer my explanation and take on it.

The Trojan Horse of Winterfell: A Little Summary

Per the Theon TWOW sample chapter, at the crofter’s village before the battle in the ice, Stannis orders Justin Massey to escort Tycho Nestoris and (F)Arya off to Castle Black; Stannis warns of potential false reports of his death. The same morning, for their planned treachery, Stannis arrests Arnolf Karstark and his family and disarms their army; Stannis plans to give the army, innocent of the plot, a chance to prove themselves. Stannis also arrests Tybald, the Dreadfort maester brought by Arnolf, but not before Tybald sends a raven with a map of the crofter’s village to Winterfell. Stannis seizes Tybald’s two remaining ravens, which fly to Winterfell. The battle in the ice happens as stipulated by the Night Lamp theory. The nominal Bolton vassals Manderlys will turncloak and join Stannis, and the secret Bolton vassals Karstarks will remain with him. Stannis will likely have Frey clothes and supplies seized from their baggage train.
Stannis has everything for the Trojan Horse of Winterfell: he will send Tybald’s ravens to the Boltons Winterfell to claim that the Frey-Manderly-Karstark host defeated Stannis. The Boltons will believe it and send ravens to King’s Landing announcing the defeat. Then, the Karstarks and Manderlys and possibly southron knights in Frey clothes will march to Winterfell. In some variations (such as mine) Asha Greyjoy will be a “prisoner” of this host, which will also carry frozen heads of Freys (passed as the heads of Stannis’s men) and the sword Lightbringer. They will not have “Arya” or Theon (some theories have Theon disguised as Arnolf, but let’s keep it simple).
This “friendly” army will be welcomed to Winterfell. Its leaders will present Lightbringer and heads to the Boltons, but inform them that Theon and “Arya” were not found. Roose will order a feast to celebrate, but Ramsay will be furious. Likely without Roose’s leave (hence no signatures; no skin because the “friendly” army did not bring any), Ramsay will write the Pink Letter to Jon Snow boasting of Stannis’s [false] defeat. As he finishes the letter, Ramsay will hear a noise downstairs, and half-ass the smear and send the raven before investigating. There he will find the “friendly army” massacring the Boltons, possibly joined by Whoresbane’s Umbers. Stannis seizes the castle, wins the day.
TL;DR Per the Night Lamp theory, Stannis wins the battle in the ice against the Freys. He then sends fake news of his death to the Boltons; Ramsay writes the Pink Letter based on this false information. Stannis sends his men posing as allies to the Boltons to Winterfell, where they are welcomed only to massacre the Boltons, capturing Winterfell for the Mannis. That’s the popular conception of the Trojan Horse of Winterfell as I interpret it.

Big Walder in Little Winter Town

Now, I would like to contribute a new aspect of the Trojan Horse of Winterfell not part of the popular conception: Big Walder Frey. He is Lord Walder’s grandson by his son Jammos via his fourth wife, Alyssa Blackwood. Lame Lothar is his full uncle. Big Walder is clever boy, and, unlike his cousin Little Walder, is not cruel (and is even disturbed by his cousin’s behavior). He is also ambitious, somehow thinking he will inherit the Twins despite being behind dozens of people. Big Walder is very familiar with the line of succession and does not especially care about the deaths of his kin:
"We're cousins, not brothers," added Big Walder, the little one. "I'm Walder son of Jammos. My father was Lord Walder's son by his fourth wife. He's Walder son of Merrett. His grandmother was Lord Walder's third wife, the Crakehall. He's ahead of me in the line of succession even though I'm older."
"Only by fifty-two days," Little Walder objected. "And neither of us will ever hold the Twins, stupid."
"I will," Big Walder declared. "We're not the only Walders either. Ser Stevron has a grandson, Black Walder, he's fourth in line of succession, and there's Red Walder, Ser Emmon's son, and Bastard Walder, who isn't in the line at all. He's called Walder Rivers not Walder Frey. Plus there's girls named Walda." (Bran I, ACOK)
"My lords, your uncle Ser Stevron Frey was among those who lost their lives at Oxcross. He took a wound in the battle, Robb writes. It was not thought to be serious, but three days later he died in his tent, asleep."
Big Walder shrugged. He was very old. Five-and-sixty, I think. Too old for battles. He was always saying he was tired.” (Bran V, ACOK)
Big Walder was last seen on-page describing how he found his cousin Little Walder dead, who was seeking coin from White Harbor men. Big Walder was covered in his cousin’s blood; many readers believe he was the murderer.

Big Walder at the Big Battle in the Ice

Big Walder’s presence at the battle in the ice is plausible. He is a squire, and squires fight; he has nice armor and a shield and surcoat to use. Now, he is Ramsay’s squire, so one might think he will fight alongside Ramsay. However, squires being separated from their masters in the series is not unusual. Furthermore, we see the Freys leave the hall together after the fight with the Manderlys, and considering Big Walder went in with Hosteen, it makes sense that he left with him:
As he began to play—a sad, soft song that Theon Greyjoy did not recognize—Ser Hosteen, Ser Aenys, and their fellow Freys turned away to lead their horses from the hall. (Theon I, ADWD)
Hosteen may want to keep his half-nephew close given the murder of Little Walder. Hosteen may name Big Walder as his squire or perhaps a banner-bearer for the battle; even though squires can fight, being with Hosteen will minimize danger for the 9-year-old.
An aside: the Asha Fragment, includes the leader of the Frey army, with two banner-bearers and one man holding a head on a spear. Some people theorized that Big Walder is the leader of the Frey army, based on his armor being similar. This doesn’t make sense; someone that young would never be in charge (Daeron the Daring was 15 and a dragonrider and yet not the official leader of the green army after First Tumbleton). The man in the Asha Fragment is almost certainly Hosteen Frey, though Big Walder may also be present as one of the banner-bearers.

Big Walder’s Big Winterfell Betrayal

Though the Night Lamp will decisively defeat the Frey army, Big Walder will survive, possibly by staying on the edge of the battle. It seems unlikely that Stannis’s knights would kill him; he’s a child squire, more useful as a hostage and presumably easy to capture. Big Walder may be clever enough to yield to Stannis’s men when it goes bad. In any case, Big Walder will be captured and brought to Stannis, a valuable hostage and source of intelligence.
Now, let’s pause on Big Walder for a second. On principle, the Trojan Horse of Winterfell — Manderlys and Karstarks and possibly southron knights dressed as Freys, bearing Lightbringer and some frozen heads, with messages from Tybald confirming the story — seems doable, but there are some specifics that would make it more convincing: someone recognizable besides the Manderlys writing the letter to Winterfell and showing up at the gates.
Throughout the northern plotline of ADWD, we are reminded of the importance of seals and signatures on letters. The signatures of northern lords on Ramsay’s letters are an endorsement of the trustworthiness of their contents:
"Ramsay Bolton, Lord of Winterfell, he signs himself. But there are other names as well." Lady Dustin, Lady Cerwyn, and four Ryswells had appended their own signatures beneath his. Beside them was drawn a crude giant, the mark of some Umber. (The Wayward Bride, ADWD)
Someone like Roose Bolton would get suspicious if the letter announcing Stannis’s defeat and the death of all the Freys was signed by Manderlys alone. Stannis and the Manderlys (specifically their likely leader, Wyman’s cousin Ser Marlon Manderly) should be clever enough to realize this. They will need more signatures from the Boltons’ allies to make the letter credible. Hosteen Frey will likely be killed, so no good there. Arnolf Karstark and his brood could sign it, as a condition of not being executed by fire; as a secret ally to the Boltons, Arnolf’s seal and signature would lend credibility to the letter.
But just signing the letter is not enough, because for the ruse to be credible, the signers will also have to appear leading the army back to Winterfell. This is where Arnolf or his brood being involved could be problematic; if these men led an army back to Winterfell, they could rat out the entire ruse. Stannis could strongarm them — keeping the grandsons as hostages — but given that the Karstarks already played Stannis false, I doubt he risks it. [Note: this is a reason why Stannis would glamor Theon as Arnolf, so that theory could be onto something]. So, who else can Stannis turn to ensure his Trojan Horse is successful?
Enter Big Walder Frey, the linchpin of Stannis’s capture of Winterfell. Consider these three points that Big Walder uniquely offers as a tool of deception:
  • As a Frey, one of the few houses legitimately allied to the Boltons, Ramsay’s squire, and a helper in the cover-up of the Bolton sack of Winterfell, Big Walder’s credibility will not be in doubt.
  • If the Frey leadership died in battle, it would not be shocking that Big Walder, the only trueborn Frey left in the host, to write announcing the battle’s outcome and the deaths of his kin, especially if he was squiring for Hosteen.
  • Arnolf Karstark’s planned treachery is not well-known by the northern lords like the Manderlys or even Hosteen Frey. However Big Walder was present when Ramsay feasted Karstark at the Dreadfort. It would seem that someone as clever as him would be aware of the plot. Thus, Big Walder could accurately describe it happening in a way the Manderlys or even Stannis could not, detailing how Arnolf and family were killed, but the Karstarks filled their role.
Big Walder will write a letter to Winterfell describing Stannis’s defeat and the death of much of the leadership of the Boltons’ allies (Hosteen, Arnolf) which the Manderlys will sign. Roose Bolton will receive a message via the Dreadfort maester brought by the Karstarks, written by a Frey, and signed by a Manderly; the makings of a perfectly cromulent and credible letter. Then, when the army returns to Winterfell, it will bear the banners of Tommen and the Manderlys, Freys, and Karstarks, carry heads, and Lightbringer (maybe carried by Big Walder). Stannis’s “defeat” will be confirmed, and the army will be welcomed inside to massacre the Boltons. Big Walder, the little man with a big shadow, almost singlehandedly wins Winterfell for Stannis.

Why would Big Walder Cooperate with Stannis?

Good question. There are two scenarios: coercion or cooperation. Let’s consider coercion first. Big Walder is a child, already easily intimidated, who may have been coerced to write a false letter in the past.
My nephews are young, I grant you, but they were there. Big Walder wrote the letter, though his cousin signed as well. It was a bloody bit of business, by their account. (Catelyn IV, ASOS)
That letter, written by Big Walder, blames the sack of Winterfell on Theon and paints Ramsay as a savior. We know this letter is false, but it is not actually clear how much Big and Little Walder witnessed when the Boltons sacked Winterfell; they may have not seen the Bolton army betray the Stark one, but it is hard to believe they did not realize that the Boltons set Winterfell aflame and certainly that the Boltons “saved” the women and children, taking them back to the Dreadfort. Big Walder coerced to write the Winterfell letter? Was he convinced? Unknown, but given that Big and Little Walder should be aware that “Reek” was Ramsay, they knew what they were writing was at least partially false. Scary Ramsay coercing a pair of 9-year-olds into writing a letter seems reasonable. If Ramsay coerced Big Walder, so can Stannis via his torturer knight, Ser Clayton Suggs.
But even if Big Walder is coerced to a write a letter, he still needs to go to Winterfell and present himself. That’s a risk, Stannis would no doubt know; Big Walder could give away the ruse, just as Arnolf could. However, unlike Arnolf, Big Walder is a child, so the odds of him resisting intimidation or figuring out a way to let the ruse slip to Ramsay would be lower. Big Walder could try something clever, like slipping in “mayhaps” like in the game Lord of the crossing, but I doubt anyone except readers would notice. I also find it likely that Stannis will dress his men as Freys escorting Big Walder, with orders to kill him if he screws up. If the choice for his messenger is either a greybeard Karstark who tried to betray him and a Frey child, Big Walder will do.
What if Big Walder was cooperative with the Boltons and their false letter? If he was (and even if he wasn’t), Big Walder could prove cooperative again with Stannis. Walder wants to live, and Stannis can protect him. As a Frey, a persona non grata in the north, he is a likely target of northmen seeking revenge for the Red Wedding. Another reason: Big Walder wants to be lord of the Twins, but there are dozens of people ahead of him. How can he jump the line? Bending the knee to Stannis. Stannis does say that "we will make new lords." (Davos IV, ASOS), why not Big Walder?
Would Big Walder betray his kin? For some, the answer is yes: he killed Little Walder. But even if he did not, it is clear he cares little about them. He does not mourn for Ser Stevron and is largely dismissive of his fellow Freys. Moreover, amongst the Freys “only full blood siblings could be trusted” (Epilogue, ASOS); Big Walder is the only Blackwood-Frey in the north. Hosteen and Fat Walda are Crakehall-Freys, ahead of him in succession. Plus, Ramsay’s behavior was disturbing him. I do not believe it is that large of a jump for Big Walder to betray the people he hardly cares about.
Now, Stannis might be skeptical of Big Walder, for good reason. But there are some ways Big Walder could tell Stannis to earn his trust: the truth of the Bolton sack of Winterfell, for one, and (if he did it) his murder of Little Walder. Theon could support the veracity of these claims. Moreover, it could be Big Walder, based on his previous false letter, who suggests that he write the letter to Winterfell.
Personally, I believe that Big Walder will willingly swear fealty to Stannis and partake in the Trojan Horse in exchange for his support of his claim to the Twins. However, as detailed earlier, Big Walder being coerced into the plot is plausible. In any case, Big Walder should play a big role in Winterfell’s capture.

Big Walder’s Big Rhyme

Let’s examine some “rhyming” (parallelism) associated with Big Walder and the Trojan Horse of Winterfell. The Trojan Horse already has rich parallelism, and Big Walder further enhances it. First, Big Walder already wrote a letter incorrectly stating the events of a battle at Winterfell:
My nephews are young, I grant you, but they were there. Big Walder wrote the letter, though his cousin signed as well. It was a bloody bit of business, by their account.
"I cannot speak to that. There is much confusion in any war. Many false reports. All I can tell you is that my nephews claim it was this bastard son of Bolton's who saved the women of Winterfell, and the little ones. They are safe at the Dreadfort now, all those who remain." (Catelyn IV, ASOS)
In both cases, Big Walder writes about a bloody nigh-on-implausible affair, but his authorship gives a false report credibility. The trick the Boltons played on the Starks via Big Walder will be inflicted upon the Boltons via Big Walder.
Another fun one. In AFFC/ADWD, Wyman Manderly faked Davos’s death, using the Freys as unwitting pawns to “confirm” it:
"Wyman Manderly has done as you commanded, and beheaded Lord Stannis's onion knight."
"We know this for a certainty?"
"The man's head and hands have been mounted above the walls of White Harbor. Lord Wyman avows this, and the Freys confirm. They have seen the head there, with an onion in its mouth. And the hands, one marked by his shortened fingers." (Cersei V, AFFC)
So shall the Manderlys fake Stannis’s death — but this time, with a Frey as a willing accomplice. It is worthwhile to mention that Manderly’s deception allowed his son Wylis to be released from captivity. The only reason Whoresbane Umber is fighting for the Boltons is because he worries for his nephew, the Greatjon. But because of Big Walder’s deception, King’s Landing, which will have the Greatjon captive (Jaime ordered the transfer of the Freys captives to Tommen), may believe the Umbers are loyal and release the Greatjon (the same may happen with Harrion Karstark).

Epilogue: Big Walder, Little Squire

Stannis takes Winterfell, thanks to Big Walder. What’s next for the big little man? There will be no sideplot of him leading an attack on the Twins; at best, GRRM will pocket Big Walder taking the Twins until the story’s dénouement. What is the point of this character, who happens to be descended from one of GRRM’s favorite houses?
There is a position that Big Walder can fill. Stannis left his squire Devan Seaworth with Melisandre, and his other squire Bryen Farring perished from exposure. A king must needs have a squire. What better way for Big Walder to remain in the story and serve Stannis than as his squire? It seems very GRRM-like for the same kid to squire for both Ramsay Bolton and Stannis Baratheon. Also, incidentally, because his grandmother is a Blackwood, Big Walder is (likely) a third cousin, once removed of Stannis, so Stannis may take pity on a kinsman.
TL;DR Just as Big Walder was instrumental in concealing the Bolton’s sack of Winterfell, so will he prove instrumental in fomenting misinformation allowing Stannis capture of Winterfell, by writing the letter to Winterfell announcing Stannis’s defeat and then marching to the castle with a host of Manderlys, Karstarks, and Stannermen dressed as Freys as a Trojan Horse for Stannis’s army.

Wedding family advice
Needing some wedding advice. For our wedding, this June, the groomsmen and groom are wearing navy suits, white shirt, and a burgundy tie. Bridesmaids will be wearing burgundy. My dad (father of the bride), was given the option to rent a suit like the groomsmen, but opted out and said he would get his own. I told him the colors, and I know that he doesn’t have to match perfectly, but as long as the colors don’t clash or look funny in pictures, then it’s fine. He waited last minute, and 2 weeks before the wedding started looking. I get a call from my step mom, saying that they need to choose colors that favor him, which hurt my feelings because it’s just one day that I’m asking him to cooperate. So I would prefer he chose colors that look nice in our family pictures as a group. I’ll attach what he chose, I think it clashes, but maybe I’m overthinking it. I attached a picture of a sample of what the groomsmen will wear and an image of what my step mom and father chose. Any advice would be appreciated 😵‍💫

2024.05.27 18:50 BunBuntPass Contempt, custody, and CPS

I apologize if this ends up as a block of text, I’m writing this on my phone.
This past January, the father of my two kids (F13, M12) and I entered into a legal custody arrangement sharing the kids 50/50, a default arrangement in KY, USA. Up until January, the kids have been in my custody full time with occasional visitation from Dad. Once the agreement was official, I’ve cooperated fully with the scheduling. There have been occasions where the kids have asked to come home early before the week was up or he’s dropped them off early because he became overwhelmed with the kids.
The situation became complicated last week, both of the kids asked to come home a day after they’d gone to their dad’s. The kids tell me they’re scared of him, they don’t want to go back. He’s not been physically violent, however, does rage over small things or all things depending on his mood. The kids say he’s been making jokes about rape, took off the kids’ doors, won’t allow them to talk/play with friends and demands them to stay in the living room with him from the moment they get home from school until bedtime. He is a bigot and says horrible things about black people, LGBTQ, women. There’s more, but I don’t want to flood this post with them. What’s important is I took them to my house and haven’t given them back.
I was contacted by my lawyer that’d I’d retained in Dec/Jan and was informed that he’s taking me to court for contempt. My lawyer advised me to file a CPS report, which I then did. They interviewed the kids and then told me that they can’t be forced to go because of their ages. They will offer recommendations to the court.
I don’t have much law experience, but was told I have the option to act in pro se (did I say that right?) or I could retain my lawyer to fight this for me. He does have a lawyer, whom I feel is quite good, considering how the first round went. The price to retain a lawyer is quite a hit to my finances. I’ll have to take out a loan.
My question is this: should I retain a lawyer since he has one or should I do this pro se? My boss thinks that I have enough of an argument that it would be a waste of money to retain a lawyer, but I’m scared that the judge will not see my concerns and then my children will not be safe from him and his untreated mental health. Any and all advice is appreciated, thank you.

The Midterms of 1950 A House Divided Alternate Elections
After nine long months of service during one of the most tumultuous periods of world history, Secretary of State Joseph C. Grew announced his intention to retire at the end of President Charles Edward Merriam’s first term. To replace him, Merriam nominated John Foster Dulles, a successful lawyer and frequent consultant for government agencies well known in foreign policy circles as an expert in international affairs. However, this selection would serve to inflame a brewing conflict within the Federalist Reform Party over what to make of the international new world order as Dulles was a known proponent of the formation of the Atlantic Union — an international federation of Western democracies to ensure global peace and control of atomic power. Two dozen furious Federalist Reform Senators immediately mobilized to block Dulles’s nomination and demand that a non-Atlancist be appointed instead, yet their efforts would be frustrated by the opposition joining with a coalition of Atlanticist Federalist Reformists to allow Dulles to take office. With the issue now thrust into the forefront of the American national consciousness, debate over the Atlantic Union would come to dominate Congress over the next two years with resolution after resolution passed to press President Merriam into action. Taking a cautious approach to a proposal he remained skeptical of fully embracing, Merriam appointed several committees to study the issue in depth and provide their recommendations on its adoption but stopped short of formally calling for an international convention. Yet with the President suffering a minor stroke in early 1950, the opponents of the proposal would be reminded that Vice President and committed Atlanticist Edward J. Meeman remained just a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Beyond the swirling debate surrounding the Atlantic Union, the world remained in motion throughout the first two years of Merriam’s second term. After two years of abnormally low temperatures believed by the scientific community to have been a direct result of President Alvin York’s nuclear strike, the cold finally began to abate in the summer of 1950 allowing international food production to more comfortably stave off the specter of famine. Nonetheless, the utter devastation of the decade-long Second World War necessitated continued efforts to restore Europe and Asia to its pre-war levels of industrial production and multi-partisan consensus in Congress supported continued allocations to support international reconstruction. A curious dividend of this reconstruction work arose when an American engineering crew recovered a trove of documents from a ruined Imperial German military archives building in Freiburg. Among them was a set of invasion plans drawn up by then-Lieutenant Hubert von Rebeur-Paschwitz to attack the United States with a landing at Manomet Point — now infamous as the site of the mysterious Cape Cod Invasion launched by Ulysses S. Grant III to restore the military dictatorship once led by his father. The suspicious similarities between the plan and the course of the Cape Cod Invasion reignited debate surrounding the culprit of the attacks with former President Alvin York emerging from his ailing solitude to declare this the vindication of his vision that the German Empire was the devil’s instrument against America.
Though foreign affairs remain at the epicenter of the midterm campaign, the shocking swing of Associate Justice Samuel Seabury to rule the National Labor Arbitration Act unconstitutional in United Steel Workers of America v. Taylor ignited its own set of domestic political debates. With a corporatist system of government-led negotiations between the forces of labor and capital at the center of the Federalist Reform economic program, the ruling reinvigorated efforts at the codification of the Swope Plan and various other proposals to reorganize the national economy along this vision. However, time after time legislation on the matter would turn up several votes short in the House of Representatives as the disparate opposition united to block its passage. Despite this gridlock, Congress would still succeed in passing substantial legislation including a new series of civil service reform acts, a continued reduction in war-related government spending and taxation, and the formation of a Special Committee on Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce in response to a bombshell arms trafficking scandal revealed by Attorney General Earl Warren. Yet none would be as seminal as the National Service Act of 1949 passed by a bare majority in the House of Representatives and instituting the version of universal military training first envisioned by former Chief of Staff John McAuley Palmer II with all able-bodied men between the age of seventeen and twenty completing one year of military training followed by six years of service in the National Guard.
Federalist Reform Party

Holding unprecedented control over the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Council of Censors, the Federalist Reform Party has firmly entrenched itself as the governing party of the United States. While successful in securing a key piece of its agenda with the passage of the National Service Act, much of the Federalist Reform platform remains unrealized. Chief among its priorities is the implementation of a corporatist scheme of labor relations where labor unions and employer associations would be federally regulated and incorporated and negotiations between the two would be mandatorily arbitrated by the federal government to balance societal and economic needs. The party has also supported the transfer of many of the pension and insurance obligations of the federal government to these employer associations as part of its wider drive to balance the federal budget and lower tax burdens on the average American. To complement this corporatist system, President Merriam has also championed the creation of federal planning agencies to identify opportunities for strategic economic investments and partner with private industry to secure their implementation. As strict opponents of communism and syndicalism, the party has supported a criminal syndicalism law to outlaw the advocacy of violence for changing the economic system of the country and broadly supported the efforts of Secretary of State John Foster Dulles to contain the Marxist-Hansenist revolutionary state of Haiti and build a network of allies for an intervention into the country. The party also retains a reputation as the firmest opponent of governmental corruption and organized crime among the major parties, supporting the elimination of waste and graft from the federal government, stricter civil service requirements, and the devotion of new legislation and resources to combatting racketeering. To assist with the implementation of their platform, the party has also endorsed an overhaul of the executive branch including an Executive Office for the President, a reorganization of the executive branch at the discretion of the President, an expansion of the Supreme Court, and the power of the line item veto.
However, not all is well in the Federalist Reform Party as a bitter factional struggle has come to consume it. On one side of the battle are the Atlanticists, with Senators Brooks Hays and Estes Kefauver as well as Speaker of the House Wright Patman emerging as their primary champions, who support the creation of an Atlantic Union federating the western-style democracies ringing the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlanticists argue that such a federation is necessary to prevent the outbreak of another devastating world war, with their concerns particularly heightened by the terrible power of atomic weapons as demonstrated by former President Alvin York’s atomic bombing of the German Empire. Most Atlanticists support the delegation of only a limited set of powers to such an Atlantic government with the central focus being the provision of peace between the member countries, a common defense between them, free trade between them, and the regulation of atomic weapons and power. Though their other views vary considerably, the Atlanticists are more closely identified with the liberal members of the party supporting a larger role for the federal government in the planning and direction of the national economy. Their opponents have come to be collectively known as the Nationalists, led by former Secretary of the Treasury Dean Acheson as well as Senators John Henry Stelle and Robert S. Kerr. Strictly opposing all forms of world government that would infringe upon the national sovereignty of the United States, they argue that an Atlantic Union would compromise the American national identity and bind it to countries that are culturally dissimilar and could threaten to impose their will upon the United States with no recourse. Moreover, they argue that such a Union would be a disservice to the veterans who fought to preserve the independence of the United States during the Second World War and question whether the world federalism movement has been compromised by communist agents. The Nationalists are broadly identified with more conservative members of the party and tend to support heavier investments into veteran’s benefits, national defense, and patriotic education.
Popular Front

While the power of the American left was shattered by its disastrous split into multiple parties during the Second World War, the surviving Social Democratic and Socialist Workers Parties have once again coalesced into the Popular Front alliance to present a united front against the power of the Federalist Reform Party. On foreign affairs, the members of the Popular Front are unified in their support for the creation of a world federation to guarantee world peace, economic cooperation, and global disarmament. Moreover, the Popular Front has harshly condemned European colonial powers and demanded American pressure to be applied to secure their immediate decolonization. Sounding the clarion call for the socialization of industry, the Popular Front also broadly supports the nationalization of wide stretches of the American economy to place them under the control of workers with a principal focus on monopolistic industries such as banking, shipping, electric power, mining, gas, and oil. Additionally, the Popular Front has endorsed the maintenance of a strong social safety net including a national healthcare system, public housing infrastructure, a pension for mothers caring for children at home, and generous social insurance benefits. To fund this ambitious domestic program, the Popular Front supports heavy taxation targeting the wealthiest Americans through capital gains, excess profits, land value, and estate taxes and suggesting the continued use of price controls to combat inflation that they blame corporate greed for instigating. The Popular Front also remains strongly committed to federal civil rights protections, attacking the Hughes and Merriam administrations as overseeing a backslide into discriminatory practices.
As an alliance of two distinct political parties, the Popular Front has woven together two ideological threads that in many ways still remain distinct. The Social Democratic Party represents the broadly more moderate tradition of the American left and remains more willing to tolerate the preservation of a mixed economy with both private and public sectors competing against one another. Furthermore, the Social Democrats are strongly committed to the maintenance of the existing political institutions of the United States and remain reticent to directly attack the Senate or Supreme Court as their Socialist Workers colleagues do. Extending this gradualist approach to foreign affairs, the Social Democrats are also generally more sympathetic to the Atlantic Union approach of the steady expansion of world democracy. While generally committed to global disarmament and national demilitarization, the Social Democrats are also host to an idiosyncratic faction of the party led by California Governor Robert A. Heinlein which supported the passage of the National Service Act and envisions a wider ethos around public service for the common good. Meanwhile, the Socialist Workers Party represents the more radical tradition of the American left. Much more doctrinaire in their economic philosophy, the Socialist Workers support the extensive socialization of virtually the whole American economy to hand control of the means of production over to the workers. The Socialist Workers have also roundly attacked the Senate and Supreme Court as reactionary institutions and supported their abolition with sole law-making authority remaining in the hands of the House of Representatives. Almost universally considered pacifists, the Socialist Workers are also the strongest voices in support of the demilitarization of the country and an expansive world federation as the only means to guarantee world peace.
Solidarity

Though Solidarity has struggled electorally for much of the past two decades during the apogee of both the Social Democratic and Federalist Reform Parties, a series of near-victories during that same time has kept alive the belief that the party may yet enter its renaissance. While a libertarian commitment to the maintenance of free enterprise as the engine of economic growth remains at the core of the party’s economic platform, the Solidarists remain broadly receptive to a role for the federal government in providing a reasonable social safety net, promoting the viability of small business and credit unions, and regulating the market against monopolistic trusts and other anti-competitive practices. Moreover, Solidarity has called for an overall reduction in government spending and taxation to levels not seen since the passage of the Great Community while paving the way for the stimulation of international trade through the lowering of tariffs and other trade barriers. Holding a traditionally close relationship with Southern blacks, Solidarity has also strongly endorsed the extension of stronger civil rights protections as well as global efforts to secure international decolonization. Deeply influenced by the Pan-Americanism of former Secretary of State John Barrett and the one-worldism of their previous candidates Wendell Willkie and Harold Stassen, the vast majority of Solidarity has also strongly endorsed the formation of some type of world government.
However, debate remains prevalent within the party on the exact form that such a world government should take. Led by figures such as Arkansas Representative J. William Fulbright and Vermont Senator Ralph Flanders, the Atlanticists form one side of the debate with their support for the gradualist and multi-partisan proposal of the Atlantic Union which would begin the process of world federation by uniting the world’s western-style democracies. They argue that with its wider popularity and more limited scope, the Atlantic Union is far more feasible to accomplish. Moreover, the Atlanticists prefer a more limited scope of a world federal government with only limited powers to enforce world peace and regulate atomic power and weaponry. On other issues, the Atlanticists cut across many ideological boundaries but broadly lean towards the more conservative end of the party. However, the disciples of Minnesota Governor Harold Stassen and the radicals surrounding University of Chicago President Robert Maynard Hutchins have come to be collectively known as the Maximalists. While willing to accept an Atlantic Union if necessary, the Maximalists have endorsed the immediate formation of a truly global world federation incorporating all of the extant countries in the world under its banner as the only true solution to secure world peace. Furthermore, the Maximalists have endorsed the delegation of a wider range of powers to the world federation to govern the world economy and education system. However, there remain a small section of party leaders such as Florida Representative Zora Neale Hurston and Arizona Senator Clarence Budington Kelland who remain skeptical of a world federation entirely. Note: the following are minor parties with limited reach. To vote for these parties, please refrain from voting in the poll and instead write a comment declaring support for one of them.
Atlantic Union Party
Since the party’s victory in lobbying for the independence of Newfoundland and its subsequent annexation into the United States, the Atlantic Union Party has become the dominant party in America’s newest state under the leadership of Governor Cheslie Crosbie. While holding to domestic politics echoing the one-nation conservatism popular among the Tories of the British Commonwealth countries, the Atlantic Union Party has become most notable for its strident advocacy of the Atlantic Union of western democracies. To this end, a group of key leaders of the movement such as Clarence K. Streit and Will L. Clayton Jr. have promoted the party’s transformation into a national single-issue party to build a presence in the House of Representatives and bolster the campaigns of Atlanticist candidates in the Senate in order to increase public pressure for its support and ensure ratification of an eventual treaty by the Senate.
American Party
Feeling left behind by the increasingly liberal direction of the major parties and perturbed by the rise of globalist thought in the major parties, a group of activists led by Harding College President George S. Benson, Chicago Tribune editor Robert R. McCormick, and newspaper mogul Thomas J. Anderson have formed the American Party to revitalize American conservatism. Promising to relieve the weighty tax burdens levied on the American people by repealing programs ranging from President John Dewey’s Great Community to President Merriam’s foreign aid initiatives, the American Party has sought a return to limited government outside of what is necessary for national security against threats both foreign and domestic. Notably, the American Party has remained strictly isolationist and attacked not just the Atlantic Union but any supranational organization as violating the sovereignty of the United States and subjecting it to the will of a globalist elite.
