Runny nose, headache, tiredness

DAE get absolutely disabling headaches when you sleep less than 7 hours?

2024.05.19 15:16 Trevixle DAE get absolutely disabling headaches when you sleep less than 7 hours?

I cannot afford to sleep less because I get a horrible headache whenever I sleep less than 7hrs. The headache is usually towards one side of my forehead. It causes me to completely lose my appetite. It's also difficult to try and sleep with this headache.
Any sort of movement hurts and I'm just sitting still with my eyes squinted, wanting to die. Today it was so bad I felt it behind my nose too and there was numbness in my mouth!
If I manage to fall asleep with this headache then it goes away. Feels incredible. When it gets bad my mom often comes to the rescue and gives me a head massage that greatly eases the pain šŸ„°
I'm 16 btw

2024.05.19 15:08 AlexHoneyBee Question for med students

Does a 9 month old baby need medical attention even if no fever?
My daughter was very sick with cough and runny nose, and the grad program Iā€™m in refused to postpone the PhD candidacy exam. One of the committee members compared me asking for an extension due to my sick daughter to her getting a flat tire and being able to deal with it. Iā€™m not going to name the professor or committee but this is not what I expected coming here, being told to defer medical attention for my daughter in order to proceed with a requirement that doesnā€™t need to be fulfilled for another four months.

2024.05.19 15:03 donutsandbolts I have bipolar disorder and would like a septorhinoplasty eventually. I take lithium and have been advised to only take low dose aspirine for pain. Would this disqualify me from being able to have the procedure?

I broke my nose playing basketball a few years ago so it's crooked and I have a deviated septum. I'm allowed to take baby aspirine for pain and headaches, but I've heard the septorhinoplasty recovery can be quite painful so baby aspirine might not help much. Would the recovery be too difficult to handle without maximum strength NSAIDs or are there alternatives that are less harsh on livekidneys/stomach? I understand if I'm not a good candidate, figured it was worth asking about.

2024.05.19 14:27 Exciting-Cherry3679 Why are my toddlers poops so mushy and smelly?!

Iā€™ve found a few other similar posts but canā€™t seem to find an answer that aligns exactly. My toddler (13m) has the following symptoms: mushy poop ā€”not runny or diarrhea, but definitely not fully solid. They often seem to have undigested food in them and are very very smelly. Strangely, when he first started solids he seemed to have more solid poops, but they have been consistently mushy for quite a while now most of the time.
Other symptoms, which Iā€™m not sure if are related, are a constant runny nose and not sleeping well.
He still breastfeeds 1-4 times/day, mostly at night before bed and when he wakes at night. He generally eats well but fluctuates in his appetite. He has ways gained weight normally and is on the bigger size for his age.
We did try eliminating dairy from both his and my diet for 2 weeks and didnā€™t notice a significant change. However, he hasnā€™t been having dairy for about 2 weeks to see if that helps, although I still have been having it.
I am not sure if it is a food intolerance or what. He has beeb teated for mold, dog abs dust allergies for the congestion but those were all negative.
his pediatrician never seems allarmed but i am concerned, especially if there is something that is making him feel unwell obviously.

2024.05.19 13:38 Witty_Cantaloupe8720 Why doesn't medication work on my nose?

TLDR: Suffering from a chronic stuffy nose and medications like azelastine hydrochloride, fluticasone propionate, betamethasone, oxymetazoline hydrochloride, desloratidine and psuedoephedrine don't work on me.
I (19M) have been having trouble with a chronic clogged nose for about 3 years and it has either gotten worse, or I'm noticing it more due to being more physically active.
During the day it feels like I can get in very little air from my nose and my sense of smell is impaired. Normally it's dry, not runny. It can differ from day to day, sometimes feeling a bit better, but even then it's not adequate. I notice it most when doing any sort of physical activity that raises my heart rate like lifting weights, going on hikes, running, etc. Of course everyone finds it harder to breath during exercise, but since my normal ability to breath through my nose is worsened, raising my heart rate makes it impossible.
Other symptoms: - Dry throat when waking up due to mouth breathing. - Unbearable clogged nose when sick. - Worse with colder weather: as my nose gets runny, I feel like the mucus blocks the already small hole I'm getting air from. - Only able to smell strong odors.
After seeing my x-ray, my doctor told me that I had an inflamed nasal mucosa and a slightly deviated septum, which wasn't deviated enough to be the cause. He prescribed me a nasal spray with active ingredients: azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate. Used the spray as per his instructions for about 2 weeks, but it had no effect.
Next he prescribed me another nasal spray containing oxymetazoline hydrochloride for 5 days, 10 tablets of desloratadine and a betamethasone muscular injection. None of them produced even a slight change in my condition. Reading some good reviews on the Internet made me want to try taking a psuedoephedrine tablet before a long hike, but again no effect.
Up until now I have never abused nasal sprays, using them rarely with particularly bad colds. And also haven't used oral medication for my nose before.
So my question is, why don't anyone of these medications decongest my nose at all when they work well for most other people?

2024.05.19 10:43 nucleorojo Recently acquired coffee intolerance

Hi biohackers.
What can you tell me on the acquired caffeine (or coffee) intolerance?. I have read here conflicted takes.
I was previously drinking 1 Expresso shot in the morning, for almost 3 years. Then, in the latest months, I had to stop because a few minutes after ingestion, I began developing palpitations, face flushing, headache and general tiredness that lasts for about 4-5 hours.
What could be the reason behind this? I really miss the taste, I didn't even drink it because of its psychoactive properties nor I miss the kick.

2024.05.19 09:31 krolowas 25F cold or sinus infection?

25F, had the flu ~ 3-4 weeks ago and was on antibiotics + Sudafed pseudoephedrine
Hello! Would appreciate any guidance here. So a few weeks ago I was struck down by a horrible flu which resulted in antibiotics for a week. On Wednesday I started to become congested horribly and had body aches. The body aches have passed now (lasted 1 day) and my congestion has cleared up by using decongestants (pseudoephedrine) where I can now breathe through my nose, though Iā€™m finding my ears to be muffled and thereā€™s slight pain in my left ear. I donā€™t have any swelling, and not a lot of pressure in my face/nose headache, No green mucus or anything like that. Iā€™m wondering if this will pass on its own? Or if I require antibiotics again šŸ¤„šŸ˜„ I just hate the feeling of my ears not being clear especially after battling a flu for 2-3 weeks already!!!
Thank you

2024.05.19 08:07 SilverNight290 Elderly cat care preparation questions

Elderly cat care preparation questions
My cat, Lily, will be eleven years old in September! I want to make sure I give her the best care I can so she can be as comfortable as possible as sheā€™s getting older.
She isnā€™t very active at all. Iā€™m scheduling a vet appointment so she can get really checked out, but she has some mobility issues already. She was hit by a car as a young kitten, maybe around 2 months, so she had some facial reconstruction done and what looks like shoulder injuries from the way she walks. Iā€™m going to see what medications I can get for her, as she has a constant runny nose and sneezes a lot. I personally suspect thereā€™s something structurally wrong in her sinuses or nasal cavity, as sheā€™s been on medication for this before, but the problem comes back in 3-4 weeks. Iā€™m not a vet though, so thatā€™s just my shot in the dark.
For food, Iā€™ve switched her to the Tikicat elder wet food. She was previously eating FancyFeast(I felt horrible but it was affordable), but this past week I found live maggots in her fresh food, so no more of that garbage! She has 6 teeth left that I can see and seems to have an easier time eating the wet food than dry. What kind of supplements have you guys had good experiences with? Iā€™d be looking for joint health and immune support. Iā€™m not sure if this is something to ask a vet about instead.
Is there anything else you guys would recommend I get for her? Maybe a ramp to get up on the bed so she doesnā€™t have to jump, even though she doesnā€™t seem to have problems with it? Sheā€™s been my rock and shield through some very rough years and I need to make sure I do this right. Sheā€™s so important to me.

2024.05.19 06:28 Adorable_Compote_164 advice please ? anxiety

hey everyone, please help me. im so convinced i have a brain tumor. okay so a week ago, i noticed this head pressure. mainly when i get up, bend down, it's like a squeezing for a few seconds..and then i get headaches on my right side, does that mean that mean there's a tumor there ?! if it was big enough to be causing headaches on one side wouldn't there be more symptoms? the headache is mostly when i get up to do things. and head just feels weird when i stand up, like weird. lightheaded, fuzzy, pressure , and idk it feels tight by my nose. please reassure me this isn't a brain tumor. im making a appointment tomorrow and if it's to far im just gonna go to the ER but I'm terrified to sleep because I'm like what if I die in my sleep? how would I know if it's a brain tumor ??? I'm only 21. i have bad anxiety. this is so scary if it's not a brain tumor my anxiety is saying what if it's a vitamin deficiency and it stops my heart it won't right?.. also the spot below my eyebrow is twitching non stop my head mainly hurts when I get up and do things UPDATE: was at the ER today. told him about this. he said he didn't feel like a CT scan was needed plus I was already having a stomach ultra sound so he said he didn't want to use to much radiation. he checked my pupils, had me follow his fingers with my eyes, walk in lines and do more stuff with my hands and I passed. does that mean I'm okay? I'll def go back if I feel worse .

2024.05.19 04:47 Cat_Psychology Stories where relaxation brought on labour?

TL:DR: 3 days past due date, been very stressed for the past month. Birth doula suggested my stress hormones may be the reason, blocking labour from starting. Looking for stories where by re having a day of relaxing potentially brought on your on labour?
ā€”
I am 40+2 with my second baby. I also have a toddler and needless to say, life is busy. My first w as a week late and I had to be induced as my body did nothing on its own to go into labour. This time around, Iā€™ve been 1 cm dilated with a soft but high cervix since 39 weeks. It seems like history is bound to repeat itself and I desperately want to avoid being induced (I developed high BP at 40+3 with my first and my induction took three days but I did ultimately deliver naturally and everyone was healthy.)
This pregnancy has been more stressful than my first. Just taking the last month as an example, baby was breech and I tried ALL the things to flip her. I spent almost a thousand dollars (and a lot of time and energy) on various massage, physiotherapy, chiro and acupuncture treatments (thank god for my husbands amazing work benefits I got it all back), and between 34-37 weeks I basically was entirely focused on flipping her. I am especially motivated for a vaginal birth because due to health issues, I am not allowed to get a spinal or epidural so if I need a c-section it will need to be done under general anesthesia and that would mean both me and my husband would miss my daughter being born which breaks my heart. So, for over a month I was stressing constantly about her position. Somewhere in there I started my maternity leave a bit early too because with my husband and I both working full time, I had done barely anything to prepare for having this baby around the house, so between everything, I was working my butt off at home to prep for baby. Basically the plan was for an ECV at 37 weeks exactly if nothing else worked (spoiler: nothing worked). Just before the ECV, my toddler brought home a nasty daycare virus which I caught and the ECV was postponed until 37+5 when I was feeling (temporarily) better. Fortunately baby flipped easily however in the process she must have landed in a bad spot for my pelvis, because as I was walking out of the hospital with my newly flipped baby, my left SI joint went ā€œoutā€ and I could hardly walk. Cue me needing to use a cane and limping around the next 3+ weeks (I can still just barely weight-bear on that side and Iā€™m just generally in constant pain, sleeping in a bed is torture). Then I woke up the day after my ECV to find that my cold had turned into a bad sinus infection and bronchitis, but because I only swabbed positive for rhinovirus in L&D, no one would give me an antibiotic despite me having a history of sinus infections. I could barely breathe, wheezed constantly, could not lay flat without massive coughing fits (so was sleeping maybe 2-3 hours a night sitting up) and strained all my abdominal muscles. This went on for 5 days until finally my GP agreed to give me an antibiotic and puffer. It took a full week on that for my symptoms to completely resolve. Over those 5 days before I got the antibiotic I also made 4 more trips to L&D, one for high BP which came down on its own, one for thinking my water broke (turns out I just peed from coughing) and two for reduced fetal movement related to dehydration (they gave me fluids and babyā€™s HR came back down to normal). Overlying that has been the constant worry that baby will somehow flip back to being breech or transverse (fortunately she has stayed head down). The past two weeks Iā€™ve primarily spent cleaning/nesting and going to various appointments to try and fix my pelvic pain to no avail. Then on my due date this past Thursday, my toddler comes home yet again with green runny nose and I am just terrified now of getting sick yet again.
SO. Needless to say, I have been under a lot of stress. I completely online birthing classes and decided to reach out to the instructor to ask for suggestions on how to get my labour going to hopefully avoid an induction. After hearing just a fraction of what Iā€™ve been through, she suggested that. I will not be able to walk myself into labour (despite my hip pain I have remained active for the sake of keeping baby head down and getting labour going). She said that potentially it is a mental block preventing my labour from progressing, noting that stress hormones work against labour hormones. Honestly, it makes sense to me since I still feel stressed and exhausted, I keep thinking ā€œok baby donā€™t come tonight, just let me get one good nights sleep firstā€ā€¦only for me to sleep like shit yet again.
So Iā€™m going to focus on trying to relax tomorrow (Sunday). I would love to read some stories from people who think that relaxing was the key to getting their labour going. I feel like I see all the stories about how walking or nesting induced labour but nothing about how just chilling might have been what was needed.

2024.05.19 04:02 Metalarmor616 Cat is acting off, worried that the stress of the vet visit made her worse

A week or so ago my cat started hiding in her little house all the time. This isn't the first time she started acting strange. A few months ago she went upstairs and stayed for a month. A vet visit for that led to the vet believing she might be developing arthritis in her back legs (she's 11 and a tripod, he said sometimes they'll develop mild arthritis once they hit 10 or so).
So I thought maybe she's just not feeling great. Then I noticed she was going two or three days between litter box visits, and having difficulty passing stool. Normally she goes at minimum once a day. Another vet trip last Friday. They couldn't find anything physically wrong, blood work was fine. I asked about a bowel obstruction but they said because she was eating her normal amount and not throwing up it was probably just constipation and older cats often have trouble with it. I came home with some medicine for both arthritis and constipation.
She's still hiding in her house, but now she's sneezing a whole lot. This started last night. Runny nose but no coughing and no eye gunk. I wonder if she picked up something from the vet, or if the stress of two vet visits coupled with joint pain is causing her to hide in her little house and sneeze. She's an only cat and 100% indoors. She doesn't go outside for any amount of time.
She's still not using the litter box as often as before. Everything coming out of her body is normal. No blood, no mucus, and stools are no longer dry. She still has a good appetite, but this morning she threw up everything she ate after scarfing her food down. She hasn't thrown up again, and has been slowly eating her food all day. I made her catnip tea last night and wonder if that has anything to do with her throwing up this morning.
She normally follows us around and screams for attention until someone picks her up to carry her like a baby, or sleeps on top of the couch or her cat tower. She's been in her little house for over two weeks, except to eat and do a slow lap around the house.
When I call the vet Monday, what should I say? Should I take her, or do you think I can get what I need stopping by the office? I'm so afraid of putting more stress on her. She only leaves the house to go to the vet, and her little body shakes so hard with fear. I can get her some antibiotics without having to take her, but should I push for x-rays? Or is the vet right and it's stress from aging?

2024.05.19 02:18 _kuhnn Facial pain and loss of smell, sinusitis?

Iā€™m a male, 22 years old. The past couple days Iā€™ve been congested with a runny nose and pretty bad facial pain around the cheek/upper jaw area of the left side of my face. This morning my congestion went away but I noticed I canā€™t smell anymore! So I panicked and tested for Covid but itā€™s negative. I still have some facial pain in the forehead and side of my face area but the congestion is gone, could this be a sinus infection? 2024.05.19 02:01 matth-eewww Only gave me side effects.

First time taking it and it's only been two days. And I've never been this depressed in my life. Everything feels like a chore the moment I digest the pill. I'm so irritable, everything is pissing me off. I've been laying on the floor staring into the void for who knows how long. It's not my first rodeo with antidepressants but it's the first one hit me that hard. I'm only taking it to see if it could help with my chronic back pain and it hadn't got rid of the pain at all but gave me more things to feel depressed about. Can't cum. It drained all my energy. I have a headache that won't away. My entire mouths feel dry, lips, nose, despite the humidity in my home being good. I've been drinking water but even that feels like a chore. I know two days is too short to consider stopping but man I barely feel alive right now.

2024.05.19 01:04 SchrodingersMinou Rabies FAQ - Please read before posting!

Before you post a question to this subreddit, please read the following points. I know, it's a lot to read, but 99% of you will get answers to your questions here. These points contain verified, accurate FACTS as verified through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO).
1. Is this a bat bite?
Bat bites cannot be identified from a photo. No one, not even a doctor or a bat biologist, can identify a bat bite from a photo. If you think you might have bat bite, ask yourself: Have you seen a bat in your home? Did you sleep outdoors where a bat might have bitten you? Did you pick up a bat in your hand? If you answer no, it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY you were bitten by a bat. Again, bat bites cannot be identified from a photo.
2. Can I get rabies from interacting with an animal? Can I get rabies from touching something? What about if a drop of liquid falls on me? Can I get rabies from contaminated food or water? Can I get rabies from a person?
No. YOU CAN ONLY GET RABIES VIA DIRECT CONTACT WITH A RABID ANIMAL. This means being bitten or scratched by a rabid animal. Rabies is transmitted via the saliva of an infected animal in the late stages of the disease, when the virus is being shed in the saliva by the host animal. The rabies virus dies almost immediately once itā€™s outside the body. You canā€™t get rabies from touching something a rabid animal touched. You canā€™t get rabies from your pet meeting a rabid animal and then bringing it home to you. You canā€™t get rabies from touching roadkill. You canā€™t get rabies from something falling on you. You canā€™t get rabies from touching or kissing someone who has been vaccinated. You canā€™t get rabies from touching something wet. You canā€™t get rabies from touching any surface whatsoever, even if you have a cut on your body or you touch your eye/nose/mouth afterwards. Getting rabies from touching an animal and then touching your eye/nose/mouth is theoretically possible, but this has never happened to anyone in recorded history.
3. I found a suspicious mark on my body but I didnā€™t find a bat in my house. Did a bat sneak into my house and bite me without me noticing, and then sneak back out?
Bats are NOT invisible or ninjas. If you wake up in the morning with a mark on your body, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be a bat bite unless you find a bat in your house. If a bat gets in your house, you will see it. They are not good at finding their way out on their own. Itā€™s very unlikely that a sober, alert, adult human would not notice being bitten by a bat. Finding little marks on your body is not unusual and that is no reason to assume an invisible bat attacked you.
4. I saw a bat near me. Or I heard a bat. Or I saw something that might have been a bat, but it didnā€™t touch me. Did a bat bite me without me noticing?
Bats cannot fly past you and bite you in mid-flight. That is physically impossible. A bat must LAND on you, hold on to you with their tiny fingers, and then bite you. After biting you, they must then push off of you to take flight again. Bats can be small, but they're not invisible or imperceptible. If you would notice a big bug landing on you and biting you, then you would notice a bat doing it too. If a bat crashes into you and makes physical contact with you, there is a possibility that it may have scratched you, and rabies shots are recommended unless you are in a country free of bat rabies. If you find a bat in your house and you are not in a country free of bat rabies, you should catch it and submit it for rabies testing; if you canā€™t do that, you should get rabies shots; if you have small children, they should get rabies shots.
5. An animal touched me, licked me, or sneezed on me. Could I get rabies from this?
You cannot get rabies from a wound that doesnā€™t break the skin. Rabies can only get into your body through an opening in your body: a scratch or bite. If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, you should wash the area with soap and water for 5 minutes. If it does not bleed at all, you may not have broken the skin and could be in the clear. You can test this by putting alcohol on the abrasion to see if it stings.
6. Can I get rabies from an animal that has current rabies vaccinations? Can my pet get rabies if it has current rabies vaccinations?
No. You cannot get rabies from an animal that has current rabies shots. If you are bitten or scratched by someoneā€™s pet, ask the owner for proof of rabies vaccination, like a rabies tag on the collar. Take a photo or copy of these records and call their vet to verify them. If the shots are current, you're not at risk of rabies infection. If the pet owner cannot provide this proof of vaccination, contact your animal control department or rabies management / health department to file a "Bite Report". If you are in the USA, you can find a list of those agencies here: https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/resources/contacts.html
7. Can I get rabies from my pet, or from a friend or neighborā€™s pet?
You may not need to get rabies shots if you can observe the animal that attacked you for two weeks. If you are bitten or scratched by a pet that is not vaccinated for rabies, the standard protocol is to quarantine the animal in an animal shelter or veterinarian's office for 10-14 days. If you were attacked by someone elseā€™s pet and that is not possible, you can observe the animal for 14 days. If it doesnā€™t get sick and/or die of rabies, then you are not at risk of rabies and do not need rabies shots. If the animal is healthy in 14 days, IT DOES NOT HAVE RABIES and neither do you. Since most animals in the late stages of rabies typically die in about 48 hours, this is a very cautious timeframe to observe.
8. Can I get rabies from a bug, bird, lizard, or frog? Can I get rabies from a possum, or a rat or mouse?
No. Only mammals (furry animals) can carry rabies. Reptiles, amphibians, insects, and birds canā€™t carry rabies. Bats are one of the most common rabies carriers in the US, although less than half of 1% of all bats will ever get rabies. In the USA, the next most common species are raccoons, skunks, and foxes. Outside of the USA, dogs, cats, and other animals have been known to spread the rabies virus. The least common mammals include Virginia opossums, rodents (rats and mice), rabbits or hares, and squirrels. Globally, the #1 risk of rabies is dog bites.
9. Is there a risk of rabies in my area? Can I get rabies in India, or the UK?
To learn about rabies statistics for your area, Google your state or country's name and the phrase 'current rabies statistics'. These websites will tell you how many rabid animals have been found in your area and what species. They should also tell you who to call to report a bite. Some parts of the world are rabies-free and there is no rabies or risk of rabies infection. The UK (and most of western Europe) is free of rabies in most animals except for bats, which is rare. India has a high rabies risk from dogs and other mammals, but rabies is very rare in bats in India and has only been found in bats in a couple areas in Nagaland.
10. I was vaccinated for rabies. Does that mean I am protected for life and will never need booster shots? Or will I need to get booster shots every single time I get bitten by an animal?
No. Previously vaccinated people still get boosters if they are re-exposed to rabies. Your rabies titer can be high for a few months or for many years, but it is assumed that you are protected for at least three months after getting your initial shots. If you are bitten by animal and it has been LESS than 90 days since your last shot, you donā€™t need to do anything. If it has been MORE than 90 days since your last shot, you would still need post-exposure booster shots IF you are directly exposed to an animal that could be rabid. You do not need to go through the entire series of shots again; you only need booster shots.
Ā· For more information about rabies and rabies shots, see the CDC website here: https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/index.html
Ā· If you are in the USA here is a link to the state and local rabies contacts. USA State & Local Rabies Contacts
11. I was vaccinated for rabies but I did not receive HRIG (Human Rabies Immunogloblin). Why? Is that OK?
HRIG is sometimes not given if there is no visible wound or if you were bitten/scratched in a location that is hard to inject. For instance, it would be hard to inject HRIG into your ear. If you have no visible wound, then there is no way to tell where HRIG should be injected. If you have more questions about this, ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
12. I got rabies shots but I have questions about the specific medical care I received. Why did the doctor give me the care I received? Iā€™m immunocompromised; do I need extra shots? Will my medication interact with the vaccine?
Ask your doctor questions about the specific medical care you received. People on the internet cannot answer those questions. A doctorā€™s job is to treat patients and explain their care to them so it is OK to ask follow-up questions even after you leave the office.
13. I waited a long time before I got rabies shots. Or I drank a beer after I got vaccinated, or I took an aspirin. Or a doctor gave me tetanus shots at the same time. Will the rabies shots still work?
Yes. Rabies vaccines are 100% effective if you get them before the virus reaches your brain and symptoms start, which usually takes 3 weeks to one year. For more info about symptoms, see FAQ #17. If you have more questions about your medical treatment, ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
14. I am in a country that is not the US, or I am traveling. Why did doctors in my country give me a different schedule of shots than the ones recommended by the CDC or the WHO? Why did doctors in two different countries tell me two different shot schedules? Will the shots work?
Yes. Rabies protocols vary by country. The CDC guidance is specific to the USA, and the WHO guidance is a recommendation for all countries. Some countries give different numbers of shots on different days. That is OK. The schedules all work as long as you stick to them and finish the series. To find more information about a countryā€™s rabies shot schedule, google the name of the country + rabies vaccination + regimen or protocol or schedule.
16. I was attacked by an animal a long time ago but I never got rabies shots. Could I get rabies from that? How long does it take to develop symptoms?
The incubation period for rabies is typically 2ā€“3 months but may vary from 1 week to 1 year. Bites on the hands or feet have longer incubation periods than bites on the neck or face, and bites from a scratch have longer incubation periods than deep bites. Extremely rare cases of longer incubation periods of up to 7 years have been documented. That is rare, and it's generally hard to prove that someone didn't have a more recent exposure to rabies.
17. I think I have health anxiety and I canā€™t stop thinking about rabies all the time. How can I get help for this?
See this link. The automod can be summoned to share this information with a comment that includes the word ā€œhelpbot."
18. Someone is asking questions in the sub that I think are super dumb. Should I tell them that?
No. Please do not be rude or impatient. There is a real difference between a legitimate rabies scare and Persistent Health Anxiety (PHA), a subset of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD and anxiety are real diseases that can have physical symptoms, and there are treatments for them that many people donā€™t know how to access. Both conditions are terrifying and life-altering, and both conditions deserve support. In this group, we support people who ask for help and we applaud them for finding the courage to do so. We will be kind, patient, respectful, and do our best to provide emotional support to anyone who seeks help here. All posts and/or replies that are in any way unkind, impatient, or rude will be immediately removed and the author may be temporarily or permanently banned from this group. Be nice!!
19. I feel sick. Do I have rabies?
If you feel sick, see a doctor. You may have another disease, including anxiety, which can have physical symptoms. We cannot diagnose you over the internet. See a doctor.
The incubation period for rabies is typically 2ā€“3 months but may vary from 1 week to 1 year, depending on factors such as the location of virus entry and the viral load. If you believe you are experiencing symptoms before 1 week after exposure, that is not rabies. If you think you are experiencing symptoms more than 1 year after exposure, it is almost certainly not rabies. if you have not been exposed to a rabid animal and you believe you are experiencing rabies symptoms, you are not infected and are most likely experiencing anxiety. the prodromal stage lasts for a few days to a month and the acute neurologic stage lasts for a few days to a week; if you have symptoms that last longer than this, you do not have rabies.
Rabies symptoms only begin when the virus reaches the brain. It MUST reach the brain and produce SEVERE NEUROLOGICAL symptoms before it reaches the throat and salivary glands. This means that your sore throat is NOT caused by rabies unless you also have a severe fever, are experiencing loss of consciousness, paralysis, and seizures.
Also, rabies symptoms do not go away until death. You don't have a fever and then the fever goes away for the next symptoms. Every symptom stacks on top of the other symptoms. If you are experiencing 1 out 10 symptoms, it's NOT RABIES. Rabies is not mild. It's SEVERE in every way. If you are experiencing rabies symptoms you will need to be hospitalized within the first 8 hours of symptoms.
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO GET VACCINATED UNTIL SYMPTOMS START, but only get vaccinated if you were attacked by a rabid animal. Waking up with a mystery scratch is not a rabies exposure.
Rabies symptoms are as follows, IN THIS ORDER:
Prodromal Stage:
ā€¢ Extreme Fever
ā€¢ Extreme Headache
Acute neurologic phase:
ā€¢ Visual Disturbances, Hallucinations
ā€¢ Delirium, Confusion
ā€¢ Tremors, Seizures, Repetitive Uncontrollable Movements
ā€¢ Fading In and Out of Consciousness
ā€¢ Light Sensitivity, Sensitivity to Wind / Moving Air
ā€¢ Partial Paralysis of Extremities, Paralysis of One or Both Legs or Arms
ā€¢ Excessive Salivation, combined with the inability to swallow AT ALL, not even your own saliva which causes excessive drooling
ā€¢ Inability to Swallow - NOT SORE THROAT - Inability to eat or drink, or swallow your own saliva production
ā€¢ Extreme Aversion to sight or sound of water, food, or drink, AKA hydrophobia
ā€¢ Coma
Without extreme medical intervention, which usually is an induced coma, these symptoms will progress to death very rapidly. Most patients who reach the point of excessive salivation and hydrophobia die within 12-24 hours without intervention.
IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THESE SYMPTOMS, CALL 911 AND GET TO A HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU CAN REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE, YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCING RABIES SYMPTOMS. PEOPLE WITH ACTIVE RABIES INFECTIONS CANNOT TYPE, TALK, OR DEBATE WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE SICK. IF YOU CAN READ THIS AND REPLY, IT'S NOT RABIES.

2024.05.19 00:09 Broad-Hunter-5044 Seasonal allergies (pollen)- not manifesting like usual. Is it something else?

Usually my seasonal allergies to pollen, ragweed, mold etc. manifest in the usual sneezy, runny nose, itchy throat and eyes, etc.
One day I woke up and felt like I couldnā€™t get a full breath in. I happened to check the pollen count and it was extremely elevated, and itā€™s been extremely elevated ever since that day. Itā€™s been going on for a little over a week.
Iā€™m not congested or sneezy in my nose whatsoever, my eyes arenā€™t itchy. I just feel like im not inhaling all the way. Itā€™s been making me dizzy and lightheaded. Iā€™m also experiencing extreme fatigue to the point it interferes with my daily functioning, and headaches almost every single day. The headaches border on migraines, and itā€™s a full head headache if that makes sense. It hurts my entire head, itā€™s not concentrated to just one part of my head. Iā€™m also experiencing almost daily nausea. Iā€™ve been taking Zofran and Ibuprofen daily.
Could this be allergies? Or should I get this checked out?

Should I bring our stray into the shelter?
Heya all,
turning towards the reddit community for some experiences and tips/guidance.
A week ago, our place where we store waste bags for pickup and plastic etc. Got raided by an unknown being.
Long story short, turns out it's a little cat. Can't be too old, we estimate barely a year looking at its paws and head. It's a intact male, very scared of everything, thin like a sheet of paper.
I went ahead and fed him once a day with two portions of cat food so he would leave our bins alone and maybe get closer to him.
Today was the day where he started trusting me, I could pet him and pick him up and everything, so I used my chance and examined him. Eyes and ears clear, no runny nose, fur is for a supposed stray very nice, a bit rough. But oh boy is he thin. His waist is half of my index finger. I can see every little bone on this guy.
He is the sweetest stray I ever met, so gentle that I start to believe that he either lost his family, ran away or got put on the streets on purpose. Bcs the way he let's me handle him is exceptionally gentle and kind for a cat that supposedly never had human interaction before.
Now me and my bf are wondering if we should bring him to the shelter. It's run by a animal rescue organisation so it has very good standards and he will probably stay outside as he is used to being outside all day.
But here comes my heart saying, that little man just started trusting you, gets happy everytime he sees you and you gonna stuff him into a scary box, bring him to a totally unknown place and force him to let strange people (vet) touch him. I can only imagine the panic and everything he would go through.
We cannot keep him, as we live on the 4th floor, I couldn't provide him with the time outside that he needs if we took him in (even if i want to so badly but he would go ramapge i think). We already have a cat(indoor) and a dog, my bf would never allow me a third pet haha.
Do you see any other solution? We have one friend that has a house with some property that we gonna ask tomorrow, but he already has a cat (Indoor as well)and is planning to get a second one. So I'm not sure if he will take in a third.
I'm so heartbroken, I want to love him and give him all the things he deserve, but forcing him to stay inside all day is just cruel.
Any help would be highly appreciated
