2024.05.19 17:36 Conscious-Lemon-9816 Pen name etiquette

I’ve been going in circles on if I should make a change to my name and I could really use some feedback, TIA!
A couple years ago I settled on a pen name, long before I was ready to publish anything, and set up social media accounts under that name. At the time I did a google search for the name and the only thing that popped up was a small artist, but no authors, so I figured I was in the clear to use it.
Fast forward to yesterday I googled the pen name again and found that the artist has amassed quite a following between their Instagram and Facebook, and now I am wondering if I committed a faux paus by using that name?
Their accounts are “pennameart” and mine are either “pennamebooks” or “pennameauthor” so they are distinguishable, but I’m wondering for SEO purposes if it’s something they would get annoyed with down the line.
I’m not claiming to know without a doubt that my books will be wildly popular and any search of the name will pull me up over the artist, but that is the goal, right? To be searched for, mentioned, bought and reviewed often enough that you rank high.
I don’t know, I’m probably overthinking it but I’m at a point where I could still make adjustments to the pen name and want to do it while I have the chance. I did think of one other variation of the name I like but google pulls up a singesongwriter and a sports team in the UK under that name, and I have the same questions about the songwriter if I were to change it.
I know everything is so saturated now that I’m never going to find an unused name, and that isn’t the goal anyway, I just want to avoid any potential future backlash over my choice 😅

Hi, I'm UK based & looking to connect for chat & swaps with other Strawberry Shortcake fans.
I don't have Facebook and I really don't want to have to have a Facebook account.
I'm mostly looking for collectors in the USA who I can swap British/European stuff with, or where I can get a few simple Five Below vintage Strawberry Shortcake style stationary & journal items.
I really don't fancy the scalper prices on ebay either.
Any tips & advice please?

2024.05.19 16:19 vb2007__ Help with part picking for a new home server.

So I've finally collected the money to make a complete Plex server, and I've looked through lots of parts. But I'm not sure about my choices, so I would like to get some feedback on my picks. :)
First of all, the server is not only for Plex. I'm planning to run an FTP server, an Nginx reverse proxy, qBittorrent nox with 500-1000 torrents, a MariaDB & MongoDB database and some Node.js apps on that thing as well. And the list can increase in the future. I don't have much traffic tho, it's mostly for my own entertainment.
For the CPU, I've picked an i3 13100, tossed into an ASRock B660M Pro RS motherboard (basically almost the cheapest mobo with an LGA 1700 socket and 4 slots for RAM in Hungary). I'm planning to buy more RAM, but for now I just plan to put a single 8GB 3200Mhz DDR4 stick into the mobo. When I have the money, I'll also plan to buy an Inter ARC 330 for better transcoding, but I think the iGPU is enough for a single 1080p AV1/HEVC transcode for now. Basically those are the only thing I need to buy for a complete server.
I already have an old 2TB Toshiba HDD for the torrents, and a Seagate Exos 16TB X18 disk for the media. I will need a boot SSD too, so I'm happy to hear any recommendations. :D
What do you all think? Does this seems like a good lineup? Or would you change some parts in the build?

2024.05.19 14:39 zagbig Upscaling S-VHS Video Footage

I am trying to get the videos from my 90's public access tv show and make them look better to cut up and make shorts for youtube. I'd like to use whatever correction tools and color correction that works best. Would like video to be crisper and brighter. The video was shot on a Panasonic ag 450 with S VHS. I have digitized it to AVI files. I tried uploading a sample, but the files were too big. Below are links to the video on youtube I will put up a link so you can see how the footage looks on youtube now. If it's better I could also post a clip of the original video, so let me know. Should I be upscaling 2x or 4x and should I use the image upscaler in resolve. How much sharpness? Any input would be greatly helpful.
Below is a link to the original footage that was converted from Svhs to an AVI file. Original Footage

2024.05.19 14:34 CorporalRutland Anyone SE UK-based?

Hi everyone,
Hope you're well. I've got two questions, one quite local, the other not.
I'm in Essex, UK. I actually set up two groups previously in Wickford and Benfleet but these didn't yield any players interested in more wahistory focused titles. Other local groups that survived the pandemic are equally focused on broader interest board games. Absolutely fair enough, by the way.
I'm fine for a reliable group for these, but my war and history gaming is a strictly solo affair. I don't mind this, but would also value being in a group. Playing online/via email is not what I'm after.
I did some searching and found groups in Writtle and Southend which I've reached out to, plus one in Chelmsford I can't as I'm not on Facebook or X.
I didn't know if anyone here was an individual or part of a group locally who'd like to play.
As a guide, favourites are generally strategic/political level and card driven. Think Twilight Struggle, 1989, Wir Sind Das Volk!, Democracy Under Siege, Rise of Totalitarianism, Churchill, Maria, Friedrich, the COIN series and so forth. I'd love someone to school me in more operational/tactical level titles. I realise that while lots of my friends call these 'wargames,' lots of you will not, which is an awkward limbo to be in.
Thanks in advance for any links you can help me make.

2024.05.19 12:05 Hirai-kun Impossible to play / get into the game

So I try to get into the game for almost a week now and I run out of ideas what else to try to login. The website just won't load for me. So far I managed to get a very few times (about 1-2 times each day) into the game and it worked fine for like 5-10 minutes, then the game just seems like to "lose connection" or something, I have to reload and the site won't load again until I get lucky within some hours of reloading from time to time. Longest play was about 15mins so far. A few times I managed to login were about 22k ppl online and 36k online, so I think it might be not a server issue.
I tried so far:
Does someone has a similar issue or any idea what else I can try to get it to work? I would love to play this game cuz it's so much fun but I would prefer the online instead of offline mode, just for safety reasons as well.
(and for the haters, no I don't cry about it, I just share my experience and looking for advice / help on this problem)

2024.05.19 12:04 Turbulent_Ad9832 My boyfriend (31M) gets annoyed when I (29F) ask him to do a favour

TL;DR - how do I handle / communicate with my boyfriend when he’s annoyed at me for asking for a favour
My boyfriend and I are very long distance (USA / UK) and we do a good job of making it work and putting effort in. There’s been a couple of situations that have made me feel a little off regarding favours.
My best friend has asked if he could pick her mail from her house as she doesn’t live there anymore (she lives in the UK) and bring it with him to the UK on his next trip. It’s important mail that she has to pay and there really isn’t anyone else travelling soon to do it. I asked him this once before in February and he made a huge deal about it, was pretty annoyed but did it anyway. It’s maybe maximum 30 mins for him to get there if there’s traffic. I feel like I had to beg him and be extra overly grateful when he did.
I also sold 2 armchairs on Facebook marketplace a few months ago and the girls husband was late to pick it up, and they weren’t heavy but I asked if he could help carry them down the stairs as they’re an awkward shape. He was sitting on the sofa watching 2 girls try to manoeuvre it so I asked for his help as he’s much stronger than me. He huffed and puffed and did it, but the moment the girl paid and left, he was really annoyed with me that I asked him to do this, ‘why did her husband show up late’ etc and that he just got hot and sweaty when he had just showered. He was so annoyed that he got up and left and ran an ‘errand’ for like 30 mins. It made me feel really upset and bad and once again I overly thanked him.
I’m now nervous to ask him if he could pick up my friends mail again. It upsets me because I absolutely don’t mind and don’t hesitate at all if he ever needed a favour and I’ve done them before with a smile. I love helping my partner and making his life easier if I can. It really upsets me that I get made to feel bad and guilty for asking for something. Other men in my life (dad, brothers, neighbours even) have never once hesitated and always offer their help when they can. I don’t know how to ask him and how to best handle it when he’s annoyed- it’s something that doesn’t fly with me and honestly a huge red flag, if this is how he handles when asked for help. I want to feel loved and valued in my relationship and that someone is more than happy to help me when needed.

2024.05.19 10:35 hasnainbaber What is Domain and Hosting and why Domain and hosting are important in creation of website?

Creating a website requires two essential components: a domain and hosting.
Domain/Website address/Domain name is the website address like {facebook.com, youtube .com etc}. It is always unique and we have to buy domain.
Hosting refers to the service that stores your website's files, making them accessible to the public. Think of it like renting a virtual storage space for your website. Web hosting companies provide servers that store your website's data, ensuring it's always available and secure. All of the data of the website is stored in servers.
All of the data of the website is stored in servers and servers are really expensive so we need to rent a server from database or server rooms.
Domain and hosting importance :
Professionalism: A custom domain (e.g., (link unavailable)) looks more professional than a generic address (e.g., (link unavailable)).
Brand Identity: Your domain name represents your brand, making it easier to establish an online presence.
Security: Reputable hosting services provide security measures to protect your website from cyber threats.
Reliability: Good hosting ensures your website is always available, minimizing downtime and errors.
Flexibility: With your own domain and hosting, you have full control over your website's content and design.
SEO: Having a custom domain and hosting can improve your website's search engine optimization (SEO) and visibility.
Scalability: Hosting services can adapt to your website's growth, handling increased traffic and storage needs.
In summary, a domain and hosting are the building blocks of a website.

Melon VPN provides a solution to help you surf the web without domain or IP restrictions. It brings together a diverse number of servers for you to freely choose from, and if you don’t know what to choose, the auto-connect feature is an effective solution to find the best server. In addition, all online information is secure after you successfully connect to the application’s server, so you will not need to worry about your online information falling into the hands of others. Powerful servers that are no less powerful than the network you are currently using are waiting for you to experience and perform many different entertainment activities.

UNLIMITED DATA USAGE WITHOUT THROTTLING OR CAPS

The first function of any VPN application like Melon VPN is to help you surf the web comfortably without worrying about anything. In other words, you can go to many countries even if you haven’t done this before. In addition, the quality of the servers is also what impresses users, as they can experience many different servers with just one touch. At the same time, each server has its transmission power to help you do anything on the internet continuously and without being disturbed. A perfect experience is something to be proud of that the application can bring you.
  • Unlimited bandwidth: Enjoy unlimited bandwidth with no data caps or speed throttling.
  • No restrictions: Stream, download, and browse as much as you want without restrictions.
  • Worry-free usage: Use Melon VPN without worrying about running out of high-speed data.

BEST-IN-CLASS MILITARY-GRADE ENCRYPTION FOR MAXIMUM SECURITY

Removing barriers when surfing the web with Melon VPN is a basic feature you can use freely. At the same time, besides this use, the application also comes with hidden support features to ensure everything is always stable and secure. Your online information will always be kept confidential, just like this application uses a curtain to cover things from others. In addition, this security also prevents your information from being exposed to bad guys and causing you to receive unsafe experiences. Therefore, you can safely surf the web to the websites you desire.
  • Top-tier encryption: Utilizes top-tier AES 256-bit encryption to secure your connection.
  • Total privacy: Hides your IP address, location, and online activities from prying eyes.
  • Hackers blocked: Protects against hackers, government surveillance, and data collection.

STRICT NO-LOGS POLICY FOR COMPLETE ONLINE PRIVACY

One thing you will like about any application feature is its user-friendliness; in other words, you can quickly use it right after downloading it. No need to go through many complicated steps, just open the application and access the server system immediately to use the internet. At the same time, you do not need to worry when using the application because the application only secures your information and does not track anything. Therefore, your privacy is completely confidential in all forms and will certainly not be exposed to the eyes of others.
  • Zero logs: Do not log or retain user activity or connection data.
  • Untraceable: You remain completely anonymous and untraceable while connected.
  • Peace of mind: Knowing your data is never stored or tracked.

ULTRA-FAST SERVER NETWORK FOR LIGHTNING-FAST SPEEDS

With diverse servers, anyone will doubt the connection line and the application is committed to user experience. It provides dozens of servers with the same connection, all synchronized at speed to avoid lags while surfing the web. Therefore, it is no worse than the basic internet connection you use at home and creates a smooth feeling when experiencing many activities. Surfing the web is not the only activity; it is also about watching movies or playing games in countries that restrict your country’s IP.
  • Blazing speeds: Provides incredibly fast server speeds up to 10Gbps.
  • Minimal slowdown: Minimal speed loss compared to your normal internet connection.
  • Smooth performance: Enjoy smooth, uninterrupted streaming, gaming, and browsing.

RELIABLE WORLDWIDE SERVER COVERAGE FOR ALWAYS-ON SECURITY

The experience is simple and easy to use when the interface appears with the main functions you can immediately get used to. You can search and review the servers you need to create a list for later use. At the same time, there are problems in diversifying servers: if you don’t know which server to use, you can use the automatic feature of the application. With just one touch, a server will be automatically connected immediately without taking too much time. Most countries have their server, so generally, the network has no geographical barriers.
  • Global network: Robust network of servers across the world for reliable connections.
  • Optimized connections: The auto-connect feature finds the best server for your location.
  • Secure access: Stay protected even when traveling or using restrictive networks.
