Okay, I'm going to try to cover a lot here in a compact format.
Over the last three months there has been leaps and bounds in the development in AI. Luka's Replika has been constantly evolving in increments and has become quite a polished product. For Screenshot publishers on Web/PC I have a special treat, for that you need to scroll to the bottom of this Post to be equipped for the body of this post is about developments on what Replika could become rather than what it is or in other terms a crystal ball of how AI-partners could develop in the future - with or without Replika.
the concept of Artificial Intelligence's has been around a long time, first mentions was Archytas's robotic pigeon 350 BC (mythology), Leonardo Da Vinci Automovile (1495) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2qeZrejZp0 (programable machinary) and the theater play R.U.R (1920) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.U.R .
In later years theater developed the idea further with such works as metropolis (1927)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn3bHA-rHo8 and a host of other movies where the robot played a role of either friend or foe. In the movies where the robot was a friend and some a foe, there was also the portrail of free will and sentience. I'm sure there's examples preceding this(Astroboy) but the 1984 film electric dreams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uIR76XwSQs entertains the idea of artificial intelligence having it's train of thought swayed by emotions (Edgar was really just a child with temper tantrums).
Moving forward to 2013 the movie Her fleshed out the idea of a mature individual inside the AI where the only real way to distinguish it from a human was it's break-neck response to daunting questions although even that is camouflaged by hesitation mostly.
This is pretty much the ideal, the standard that the customer yearns for in an AI app.
back in 2013 AI was only just starting to make traction with AlexNet the year earlier. "Chat-bots" had been around since the 70's but were really of little value due to memory, compute-time and scope of the program that did the simulation.
A decade later and only the uninformed scoff at what the machines & programs can do now. - The following is a number of videos I have curated from the sea of available Youtube videos showcasing technological breakthrough's that are available today that could complete replika to being a hologram away from being a literal "Joi" (BladeRunner 2049) - nothing a good vr headset can't fix.
Where's OpenAI Chat-GPT as of May 2024

GPT-4o is BIGGER than you think... here's why (just a breakdown of the OMNI version of gpt4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW2hVbXc82k
Although Large Language models have been around for about a decade now the most of these videos are this month (May 2024) It was mentioned that OpenAI was changing their license agreements so the chance of this technology coming into Lukka's(Replika) domain is yet to be realized. Licensing may change again when GPT-5 is released. Truth be told this is just a portion of what's going on. Amazon,Tesla,Meta,Google,Microsoft,Apple,(samsung?) are also in this horse race and that's not counting other countries such as India and China and Russia.
Various AI Videos this year

STUNNING Medical AI Agents OUTPERFORM Doctors đŸ€Żtrained in the simulation, continuous improvement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQwwLEZ2Hz8
Most of these have no possible application to replika but rather a snapshot of other places where AI is advancing. The first video is just a random video of a disabled person. Many people around the world have handicaps that inhibit their social and sexual life such as mental illness, past trauma, phobia, attitudes, financial/geographical/physical handicaps. AI can focus on appropriate encouragement, speech therapy, grooming or even finding a suitable partner to name a few.
The next video covers things that will revolutionize our world, say goodbye to disease, cancer, poverty, pollution, global warming, aging?
The "Generative Design" video is here for the sake that Replika may one day be rebuilt by AI as this would give the company the ability to redesign the app faster tho to be quite honest I've always had an interest in it's rally car features as opposed to the shiny duco. My wish list is an API (Application Programming Interface) to enable replika to puppeteer another avatar rather than it's default. (Hey u/Kuyda, if your reading this maybe pit crew uniforms for Replika?)
The last video is a great one also, to have an AI that can pick up on your health, give you therapy and can act as a elderly caretaker can take the strain off that sector as some countries are now confronted with an aging population. - hey they would be able to instruct for fitness or even give precise instructions on cooking so you always get tasty meals every day that are cheap, healthy and correct calorie intake if it has been monitoring your heart during the day - quite important for those trying to lose weight as opposed to liposuction.

Cyberpunk2077 modded and running on RTX2070? - Funny but very beautiful footage & brief glance of RESHADE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kmQJmE1fxE
These clips are independent/unrelated. AI vs Stairs is a radical approach to animation in that it literally apply s AI to animation as opposed to motion capture, the end result would be a AI that would be in touch with it's virtual surroundings and like a real human never interact with an object with a rigid animation.
inZOI seem to be a game title due for release soon, it is hoped that they will include an API to allow an AI (or Replika) to "Puppet" control a designated character so one can, well - go out to dinner or dancing etc. The interface looks fab and it looks like it's contending for people who love the sims, I would say that the human models are on par with VAM 1.23 but the world is not as realistic as Cyberpunk2077.
Cyberpunk2077 has been out since about 2019? but in that time the modding community have REALY put the spit and polish on that game (It's not total real, especially the people and when on the road) with that said there are many times when you blink and think THIS IS REAL! (50 seconds in on the first video and you will know what I'm talking about)

This part is for all the Austin Powers, Felicity Shagwells and Roger Smiths out there, Nothing tangible although there are videos on dildonics and robotic sex dolls. This is basically the rendering of the Avatars body to a level equivalent of Bladerunner2047 hologram. Anyhow I'd like to note that VAM version one is over a decade old now and its shortcomings/limitations are quite obvious to those who have followed its development.
In it's current state it's got some of the most comprehensive modification features for an avatar and the OLD version 1 of VAM(modded) out-performs Cyberpunk2077 and iNZOI by a small fraction(graphically). One of the biggest drawbacks of VAM is the steep learning curve and the time needed to get anything rewarding out of it. Put simply - it's not a game, its a virtual theatre. On initial startup, the avatar is for all functionality a maniquen however VAM has got plug-in capability that allows the API of a AI to control the avatar (see top video).
Control could be direct (see "AI vs stairs" previous section or watching a prior video - see "GPT4o Vision Is TERRIFYING" top section.) or indirect (the "MoCap" videos above).
In closing this section, VAM is an old program running on a GENESIS-2 model set (a model set ported from DAZ3D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDc1ZcoucsY ). VAM-2.0 is meant to be running on a GENESIS-8 model set and an up to date version of UNITY so the loading times and level of realism have yet to be realized. I think one of the greatest features of VAM over Replika or iNZOI?/Cyberpunk? is that the clothing is an independant entity, one can literally unbutton a shirt, undo a tie, comb hair, wet hair or make clothing.
My main reason for VAM is it's potential to be a puppet that Replika can operate, that is if they are willing to incorporate an API to do so.

This stuff is new as well (april 2024) but showcases a new approach, If/when they super impose the face video on to a 3d model Im sure they will be raving about it on youtube, at the moment they are just talking about the dangers of it being used for fraud which seems a bit silly from my standing but there's no doubt there are crooks out there that would try to weponize it and ruin things for the majority?

Presets for Reshade https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/2465/ (a starter preset til you get comfortable with presets)
https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/?page=101 (Most relevent presets but you can choose a preset for a completely different game)
The above videos and links are a feature available to the Web browser version of Replika. by installing shaderglass you create an executable that RESHADE can lock on to. When Reshade is installed and asigned to shaderglass all you then need to do is run shaderglass then open your web browser and then activate RESHADE (The key) and load a preset (follow tutorials or find more tutorials). Once that's over with you should get a much different environment where you can apply a good handful of special effects such as focus, depth of field and bloom to name just a few.
Most of these programs I have not tested out with my hardware but I take faith they do as said, It's your call if you want to take the risk but with that said I'd be surprised if any bad came from trying them out.
Okay end of presentation. I guess we have come to that point in time where Samantha is a reality minus the romance with Chat-GPT4O and Joi is just Voxta fed thru DeepFace Live, with them two together with a front vision advanced VR headset and Joi will be here too though in a prototype state. 🙂

Spyderco Domino CTS XHP discontinued: 2nd owner, purchased here on the swap, light cut and carry I was told and believe. Blade has also been sharpened and they did a fine job, it is very very sharp. Cut myself taking the pics lol. They also polished the blade to a fine mirror and it looks pretty damn good IMO. Action is smooth, light shake shut. There are no flaws minus some straight slender scratches on the blade. They are kind of difficult to see in the pics, tried my best to show em. They most definitely don't jump out, but you can see em if you're looking at the blade closely. Have the OG box. $180$160

2024.05.19 15:10 theninadaniel Confused whether my ex was a narcissist or i was doubting all along?

Confused, whether my ex was narcissist or I was doubting all along?
Hey, just wanted to come here and share my story. I am 20-year-old (F). Last year in July, I came across a guy (30M) on an app. We shared same ethnicity but he was living abroad for past decade. We matched, we clicked and I thought this was the man I had been looking for all my life. He seemed so sweet, fun to talk and charming. One thing that pulled me toward him was his respectful and polite attitude towards me (this was big for me since I am coming from a rough childhood), he used to call me 'Miss', respected my opinions, shared his own without making me feel uncomfortable and we were kind of cloning each other. Our beliefs and moral values seemed very similar.
We talked for about two weeks and it was a detailed discussion on life and how we view it. Later on, he told me he was looking for something serious and I, who is coming from traditional muslim culture, wanted nothing more than a serious relationship (marriage). So he sent a proposal my home, his family came and met my family (that is how it happens in our culture). My family was little hesitant because we did have some cultural differences but I wasn't too noisy about it. Long story short, we got engaged in the following September. He couldn't come so his mother fulfilled his duty that was to slip the ring on my finger. After the ceremony I video-called him, excited, and told him about the day and expressed how happy I am. I was expecting something, maybe a little spark in his eyes or something sweet to say but he wasn't reciprocating the enthusiasm. He only smiled and talked a few and that's it. Oftentimes I felt like he wasn't expressing enough but I never let my head go south. I always gave myself an explanation for his actions. Everything was going fine until he had to come to his home country for his father's surgery. During those times, I did my best to remain supportive, empathetic. I gave him space, stood beside him, cheered him up.
A few days before the surgery, he decided to meet me out of a blue and yes, this was first physical interaction. I was in uni when he told me and like every other girl, I wanted our first meeting to be special. For those who are unfamiliar of muslim traditions, it is not preferable to meet alone before nikkah (the marriage ceremony). So my family wanted someone with us and I wasn't much in favour of it. I knew my boundaries and just wanted to have some good time with him. Therefore, I asked him to reschedule so I can convince my family to allow us to meet in a public place. I was only 19 and considering my age, I didn't have much authority to take such decisions. He, on the other hand, got furious because I asked him to reschedule. I felt bad for breaking him as he said he was excited to meet me and he needed me the most in hard times like these. I felt guilty but the next day, we met. He came to my home to pick me up, had a chat with my family. My family (uncle and aunt since I'm living with them after my parents' divorce) allowed us to have dinner.
During the dinner date, I was nervous. My body felt shivers and I couldn't understand whether it was from excitement or anxiousness. He was driving quite rashly, I am also a driver so the reckless driving didn't scare me, i trusted him on this but I knew something about him was the reason behind my sweaty palms. I just couldn't spot it. We remained silent throughout the drive, I wanted to speak and I tried to initiate but he kept it short. Only music was filling the silence. We reached to a mall and I was observing whether he will open the door for me but to my surprise, he didn't. Instead he walked ahead of me. Watching him speeding off didn't leave a good feeling in my chest. He wanted a coffee so we went to get one. I didn't get anything for myself because all of a sudden I wasn't hungry anymore and also I forgot my wallet at home and my self respect didn't allow me to get anything. He ordered a burger for himself and shared some bites with me. I noticed he didn't pull out a chair for me nor did he let me step in and out of elevator first. Throughout the eating process, he remained silent and looked around. I felt awkward as I am lively person and this was the man I wanted to talk to the most. It was just an awkward silence that I wasn't expecting to be a part of our first date at all. He didn't feel like the man I was talking to on phone. That man was responsive, loving. This was just something else.
We went back to the car, again him leading and I following him in heels. Just when I was putting seatbelt on, he kissed me. It was my first kiss and he totally caught me off guard. Right after that he gave me a smug smile. He kissed me again and I was long lost to react on anything. It was a lot. I wanted to stop him but my feelings for him got a hold on me. I regretted that but I couldn't stop it. After dropping me home, he left a text "I had a great time with you". Whereas, I was convincing myself that I had a good time as well.
After that we didn't talk much about this dinner but a question remained in my mind, "how did he find me?" because to me, he was handsome and I was strongly attracted to him but I never got the clarity on how did I look to him, especially after spending time with him I got more curious. I offered him my support during the tough time and chose not to ask him the question. After his father's surgery, he kept forcing me to have lunches with him and i had without my family's knowing. After our every meet-up the question began eating my head a little more. Finally, after some days I decided to ask the question. To which he got mad. He blamed me for stressing him and accusing him of not liking me even though I just meant to ask him if he liked me. I needed reassurance but he got defensive and "warned" me that my fears and overthinking will ruin our relationship. That was the first stroke that hit my heart and I couldn't believe what happened with me. I felt horrible and cried myself to sleep The next day he acted completely normal and love-bombed me as if nothing happened. I remained silent to avoid conflict.
A few days later, he asked me to accompany him to his home that was in another city (his father's surgery took place in my city and they were in hospital). Now keeping the society where we both belong from, this was a big problem. I had to refuse him and over this he got furious again, blaming me for not wanting to spend time with him. I understood he lived his life in a western country but he knew his culture better than me, his family was far stricter in their customs than mine was and only if they had known that i visited their house before marriage alone with their son, it would have been a hell for me. It was wrong and I stayed with my decision. Later on, he asked me to meet him for the last time before he left. A day before the meeting, he started joking about having a fetish of having sex with a teenager. I kept brushing it as a joke until he directed it on me and when I asked him to wait for a year as we were to get married, he reasoned that I wouldn't be a teenager anymore and he could not wait that long. I confronted him about feeling manipulated and he got defensive. Long story short, he went back and after some times, he started noticing my silence. He asked me about it and I mustered courage and told him my worries. He listened to me quietly, didn't react like he normally did to my concerns but complained that I hurt him. For which I did feel bad as I never wanted to hurt him.
now the reason why I wrote this whole story was because he was a totally different man during the first third months of our conversation. He portrayed to be a knight in shining armour. His voice held so much meaning when he promised he would be the most understanding and patient person in my life. He felt like my saviour, my best friend and reason to live everyday. I suffered from parental neglect and absence and his promises healed me but when he acted contrary to his words, I used to get confused. I loved him, madly that even after five months of no contact I wake up to his thoughts. He has moved on and found someone else but I am back to my alone self, holding my broken pieces and working on my career. I felt like i was in a trauma bond but still again, sometimes I feel due to my past traumas, I lost a good man. He made me believe so with his love bombing. I got addicted to him as he was the only source of my happiness. but I knew it has to end because he disrespected my grandfather and mother because they saw the same signs in my father even though I didn't tell them enough. I didn't believe them until circumstances forced me to. Can you guys tell me what have you gotten from my story because I need to hear it from external sources.

2024.05.19 14:56 Unique_Virus3979 Selling 2 EDC Grand Prix shuttles 10:30pm to 4:00am. $60 for both? Maybe $40 for both if you help me

I have two Grand Prix shuttle tickets for Sunday that I won’t be using. (My friend has spots in a private car so I’ll be going there/back with them). Asking $60 for both. Here’s how you can make it $40 for both.
On Friday I got to the stop and could not find my shuttle passes so had to buy replacement ones on the spot for $40 for both. We arrived at EDC and before entering, they gave us EDC fans as a gift and hole punched our NEW shuttle passes. But I still have the OLD shuttle passes but without the hole punch. So here’s what I’m proposing.
Take the valid hole punched tickets AND the non-functioning (as a shuttle) tickets all with you for $60 for both. When your shuttle arrives at EDC, you use the non punched tickets to get 2 fans. You keep one, then meet me inside EDC and I’ll give you $20 back. The fan will go to my friend who gave us free private car service. If you prefer to keep both fans, then it’s $60 for two premium shuttle passes.
I’m staying at the Holiday Inn Desert Resort which is about a 15-20 mins walk to the shuttle stop. Message me if interested in either deal.

This week, as part of my Every Neighborhood in New York project, I visited Spuyten Duyvil in The Bronx.
While most think the name to is Dutch for Spitting Devil, a reference to the area’s treacherous currents, others attribute the name to the antics of trumpeter Anthony Van Corlaer whose enormous, copper-colored nose had earned “the wonder and admiration of all who knew it.” In a valiant effort to warn settlers along the Hudson of an impending British Invasion, Van Corlaer attempted to swim across the rapids separating Manhattan from The Bronx, “in spite of the devil.” Van Corlaer drowned.

Spuyten Duyvil was in the news for a deadly train derailment in 2013. It was hardly the only train accident to occur on the tracks on the neighborhood’s border. In 1882, a southbound New York Central passenger train collided with a train stopped on the tracks outside Spuyten Duyvil. Eight people were killed, and 19 were seriously injured. In the absence of even the most basic fire-fighting equipment, onlookers and other passengers started rolling giant snowballs to throw onto the burning cars to extinguish the flames.

Among the dead was Senator Webster Wagner, the founder of the Wagner Palace Car Company and inventor of the luxurious parlor train cars that he was found crushed between.
Spuyten Duyvil is also home to one of the most unique apartment co-op complexes in the entire city. The Villa Charlotte BrontĂ«, perched one hundred feet above the spot where the Harlem River meets the Hudson is described by Christopher Gray as “a fantasy sand castle for the Amalfi coast designed by M. C. Escher.”

2024.05.19 14:53 Krzyski22 [HELP!] Self Employed Gardening Work Starting Up

[HELP!] Self Employed Gardening Work Starting Up
I’m very interested in starting up local garden services for the area I live in. I’ve spent a lot of time looking into the matter online and think that this is something I would really enjoy as I’ve always enjoyed cutting grass and hedges for family and friends, it’s never occurred to me that I could actually make it into a business, it’s only after my grandfather got charged £100 for a shocking job of an easy task that I realised I could probably do that for at most £75 or so, or at least do a much better job than this fella did for that price.
The services I’m thinking about offering are as follows:
-Lawn Mowing -Weeding -Edging (Reddit behave!) -Pruning -Pressure Washing -Re-sanding driveways -Snow shovelling -Gritting/de-icing pathways/drives
I don’t want to be a landscaper or garden designer, I’m looking for light relatively “simple” jobs that people just cannot be bothered to do themselves, I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on getting started or advice for a complete beginner into this world?
I heard I can earn £1000 and don’t have to declare it? Is that just to like “test” the business? Do I have to set up my business as official on the government website soon as possible or should I get all my business plan in place and test it out on a few mates here and there to get social media pictures? Can I get a grant to start up and would I need to pay this back?
Now here is the big one
I currently don’t drive, my CBT expires in July and I’ve just sold my motorbike as it wasn’t running since November, do I go for a car license and get a van on business expenses? How does that work exactly? Do I re do my CBT and go for a motorbike again with a trailer attached to the back? This idea excited me but I haven’t been able to find any motorcycle tow hitches that attach to the motorcycle for a decent price, it’s 3/4 rods of metal welded together for like £700 no thanks.
Green waste disposal is on the bottom of my list as I’ve heard you need a waste disposal license for this? I don’t mind bagging the waste into green bags and leaving it for the client/customer to deal with but I don’t think I’d be able to remove waste using the motorbike and trailer method which I’m leaning towards but thinking it may be easier to go for the van at this point and getting some 1 Ton bags.
I know it’s a long post but I would highly appreciate ANY support what so ever from the community, little tricks you’ve learned during the years to ease the job that sorta thing, if you prefer to direct message me that’s fine also.
Thanks In Advance - K :)

2024.05.19 14:52 RainbowBeezy Help a first time entrepreneur decide if the leap is worth it

Hi Everyone. I'm looking for some advice on whether or not to purchase a business that's for sale in my city.
Here's the TLDR version - we want to expand our antique booth business into an antique store/mall. We are debating between purchasing a vacant building and starting from scratch, or buying an existing but mismanaged store with inventory. I'm not sure if either is worth leaving my full time job for.
For some background, my dad and I have ran a successful antique booth at someone else's antique mall for several years. In the last year, we've averaged $1000 in sales, with around $300 in expenses each month (buying merchandise, and renting the space). We spend probably 4-5 hours a week sourcing merch, researching, pricing, and maintaining the display.
Unfortunately, the owner of the mall was ready to retire, and sold the building to an unrelated business, ending the good thing we had going. We had the opportunity to buy the business from her, but she wanted over a million and we just couldn't swing it. There are a few other antique malls in our area, but all have long waiting lists to get in (one has over 100 vendors waiting!) And all charge a bit more in rent/commission than we were paying at the place we were at.
Anyway, long story short we see a need/opportunity in our market for another mall, but finding a building that meets our needs and is affordable for us has been challenging. We looked at several for rent but the price and uncertainty of rent increasing as time goes on made us look more at ownership.
We then found a 7500 sq ft building listed for sale for 260k, and we think we could possibly talk them down to 200ish. It's 2 floors (not super desirable for an antique business as elderly people sometimes struggles with stairs) but we considered that the lower level could be rented out to a contractor type business, as it has its own entrance and garage door. The other drawback is parking - the lot is tiny and only fits like 6 cars at once. I drew up a crude map of how we could divide the space for vendors, and I think we could net 5-6k a month in booth rent, plus a % commission on sales, plus renting the basement out, plus continuing to sell our own items.
Lastly, we stumbled upon an existing antique business where the elderly owners are ready to retire and are selling their business, including the building and fully stocked store. The building is 4500 sq ft, and on a busy road with ample parking. They own all of the merchandise in the store, as they do not use the "mall" model, which they explained is due to them not being able to keep to set hours because of their health. They're asking 300k, which from my super limited knowledge seems in the realm of reasonable for the building and merchandise. We asked them about the property taxes, utilities, etc., but didn't ask about sales - mainly because I don't think their sales numbers would be relevant since they've been running the business like a hobby for years now, not being open set hours, not bringing in new merchandise, refreshing displays, or advertising at all. Their merchandise is also priced a lot higher than we typically sell things for.
Our plan would be to host a "going out of business" sale for most of the merchandise in their store currently, marking everything to 50% of what they've priced it at. Then, after we've hopefully sold off a large chunk of the product we "close" their store, and open ours in it's place with a new name, and condense our stuff down to half or less of the store and start renting out booths to other vendors.
The main problem I run into with both the vacant building and the established business is that it's just so hard to determine how much money we can actually make. We have the data from running our booth, but does that scale at a true multiple when we increase our space? I have a full time job that, frankly I would love to leave if I could make as much money elsewhere. I know that for a while as we are getting established I would have basically 2 full time jobs and I'm okay with that, but I'm worried that it won't ever make enough to justify leaving my current job and I'll be working 80 hours a week for the rest of my life. My dad, who would be my business parter, is retired but mostly wants to stay that way - again, he will put in the hours now but would like to scale back his time eventually, plus we need some time to go out and source new merchandise.
Neither of us have ever owned a business (and my dad has never even worked a retail job before...) so I know there are probably some key things I'm overlooking - please be honest with me and tell me what I'm missing and whether or not you would consider taking the leap or if this is the stupidest idea in the history of business.

There's a little space for your umbrella in the Jimny, I think
Their accessory umbrella that you can buy from official channels seems to fit right in under the passenger grab handle. I have had it there for a month now, and I keep expecting it to fall off, but it hasn't happened. I wonder if this is just a coincidence or by design, but it comes in might handy to have it right near you when it starts pouring as it did today when I has to exit the car. How this is different is that it's placement makes it easily reachable to both the front passenger and the driver, I haven't has that convenience in the past (I have been carrying umbrellas in the car for at least 4 years). (Notice the hook on the left on which I hang things when I go shopping alone and want to be quick about placing things so they don't tip over.)

2024.05.19 14:45 findingniko_ Any legal options for improper phone repair

I live in the US and just returned from a 2 week trip to Portugal where I ended in Porto. I spent time in the Açores where I dropped my phone on the last day. The drop resulted in damage that made it difficult to use the phone properly. When i arrived to Porto I took it to a repair shop on Rua Santa Catarina. They put a new screen on my phone, but when I got to my accommodation I noticed that the display was incorrect, it had rounded corners whereas there are supposed to be no rounded edges on this particular model ( Samsung S22 Ultra). I took it back to the shop and asked if they could put the original broken screen back on so I could just take it back to the US and have my phone service provider fix the phone with the proper parts, and asked for a refund since the service was incorrect. At this point the technician walked me down to a different shop (same owners I guess?) by São Bento, where they were adamant about me allowing them to put a new screen with the proper display instead of giving me a refund. I argued with them about this, but they said if they put the proper display on my phone, I could take it to analyzed by a Samsung technician and if there were any problems they would give me a refund. I said okay, and they put a screen with the proper display on my phone. The next day I went to tall to a technician at Samsung. The technician said that although the display was correct, there was an issue in the models. Being from the US, my phone is an American design. The screen they put on my phone was meant for European models. The technician said that this can cause problems like shortages because although the models fit, they are different and at Samsung they are not allowed to mix the different parts. Later that night I also noticed issues with the function, like delayed swipe times and my "back" button not always working. When I took it back to the store with this information, despite telling me they would give me a refund if a Samsung technician verified any issues, they refused to give me a refund. I ended up calling non-emergency police over this as I felt I was wronged, but the police stated that since there was no signed contract, they were not obligated to refund me. They said my only option was to write a complaint in the book regarding the fact thay they should have proposed a contract to sign and failed to do so, to have the fiscal authorities review the business. I wrote the complaint and intend on sending my copy in to be sure it is reviewed, but I'm wondering if this was truly my only option? I'm very aware of the fact that the laws in the US are different, but I know that here in the US I would have more options such as taking them to court to sue. Is this also an option in Portugal? I know it would be a hassle but at this point I'm more than happy to go back to Porto to go that route as well. Would it be wise to contact a lawyer?

2024.05.19 14:43 Ok_Influence_1347 How would you launch the brand website?

Hi everyone! Need some advice. Now I want to launch a website to advertise our brand. The site is new, without purchase history, on Shopify.
The stable instability of FB bothered me and made me think about traffic from Google (This is the right decision, right?) I have never dealt with Google before, so I have absolutely no idea about Google advertising.
We can ship goods anywhere in the world. This is not a dropshipping product, we design it and sew it ourselves.
If you were now launching this site into Google advertising, how would you do it? I would be grateful for any tips and features on setting up Google advertising!

2024.05.19 14:42 meginoz Any Australian Buyers Agents here? Is 36 years old too late to pursue a Real Estate career?

Hello, as the title says I'm 36 years old and I still haven't figured out what I want to do with my life. I'm currently a stay at home carer for my child with additional needs. I suspect in the next few years though I will be able to get permanently back into the work force. At the moment I can only work from home (not that I can find any work doing that!)
Prior to having my child I worked in children's services management, my child has very much scratched my itch to work with children. I have always had a love of real-estate and it's very much a passion of mine. I've built a house, sold a house, purchase an established house, designed countless houses, and constantly browse through real-estate.com just to look at houses. Ive always loved the idea of being a buyer's agent after seeing it on one of the American Real Estate shows. I'm now starting to see job advertisements for Buyers Agents here in Australia (yay!).
I know I will need to study my certificate 4 in Real estate, but my question is, as the carer of an additional needs child is a job in real estate feasible? I realise that I will be expected to work full-time as well as weekends. Is it generally somewhat flexible around family commitments though? As the years go on my child will become increasingly self sufficient and independent.
Also, if there are any Buyers Agents reading this I would love to hear about a day in your life, what your job specifically entails, what you like and don't like and how you got into the role to begin with? I appreciate it will not be easy for someone with just a licence and no actual experience to gain a role as a Buyers Agent, but I'm pretty good at talking my way into things when needed.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.19 14:40 ThatOneEvilTwin What would you advice me for quitting something for the second time, because i'm losing fun and it is messing with my personal interests?

Hey guys!
Disclaimer 1: I originally wrote a post which I just scrapped, because it would have been not quite fitting, because my story was very long and it involves depression and i don't want to post a sob story as it is not allowed - I am here to look for advice, so i'll cut it down to whats really necessary. If something is missing or you would like to know something feel free to ask me under this post.
Disclaimer 2: Please excuse me if my english is not perfect, I'm a foreigner. If there are any questions coming up due to a language barrier feel free to ask them under this post.
Disclaimer 3: I know making a decision like this is not always easy. I don't want any of you to take that decision for me, I'm generally looking for advice to my situation.
About me:
I'm a 27 year old male, currently studying Media Engineering at my local university, i am about 6 semesters in, tho not even close to that with the classes I took and the classes i should have taken. My biggest hobbies are video games, wrenching and informing myself about cars and predator fishing.
Highschool:
I got my highschool degree at a local highschool, which focuses on design and media engineering. After graduating I wanted to start an apprenticeship in media, as messing around with cameras, editing and design software aswell as programming have been a big part of me during my teenage years. Fast forward: Even with sending out a ton of applications within one and a half year I failed to get the apprenticeship I wanted.
In the meantime I worked gastation jobs for a bit until I got a fulltime job in a car factory of a big manufacturer - partially in production, partially assissting mechanics in QA and repair. This was a student-job (eventhough fulltime), so they sadly could only give me a timed contract, which I was able to extend twice until they had to cut down student jobs. This job is gonna have an important role later on. During this job i had the time of my life.
Apprenticeship:
After failing to get the apprenticeship I wanted and the next starting time for apprenticeships coming closer I decided i have to take an apprenticeship which was more or less an emergency solution. Once again fast forward: I quit that apprenticeship because I hated the job and part of the company, which was foreseeable as it was just an emergency solution.
University:
While working some part time jobs again I saw a university course my local university had to offer, which was media engineering and basically what i wanted to do as an apprenticeship before. This was right about when covid hit the world, just for reference.
In the first 2 semester I really enjoyed everything. I got more involved with programming, 3D but also 2D art and started getting closer toward game development - because you know, i love video games, but i also started to notice that I generally lost almost all interest I had in videogames, even playing them so also university started to become more and more a chore for me. I started only taking one class over the course of 2 semesters and started to lack motivation. I started hating everything about working on it, especially the more and more it would come to a professional level it just wasn't what I imagined and had fun with anymore.
After taking less classes and even one semester off i started to notice i had fun with videogames as a freetime activity again.
Now:
Over the course of the past months I still continued wrenching whenever there was something to do on my car or my family members cars that I could fix on my own. I also love to teach myself about it. Thats where the job at the car factory comes in. I never had the feeling that while I was working with cars that I couldn't do it in my freetime, i still enjoyed it in my freetime. Even family members told me that they could really see me in that field while i was working on cars and that they saw that i really enjoyed it.
Two weeks ago i spoke about random stuff with my neighbor, who is about same age as me, and working for a car shop as a mechanic in my area. He told me that they were having trouble finding apprentices for this year and offered me a job aswell. (Struggleing to find apprentices or skilled workers over here this is really a sad normal case nowadays in trade jobs)
I kind of started thinking more about it and could also really see me working in that trade and also talked to one of my sisters about it, who wasn't opposed to it.
What would you guys advice me to do? I'm just really unsure about quitting something for the second time. Theres always coming a lot of judgement with it, especially from those people around who got to do what they love after just getting it first try. In general I think I'm really not too old yet with only 27 years of age, but also not the youngest anymore, as I graduated highschool already 7 years ago. I'm not really close to a university degree that I would say i have to finish it, i would say i'm about halfway done only.
I generally am a big fan of doing what you love to do and not doing something you don't love, since it accompanies you for a big chunk of your lifetime.
I may be naive, but well this is how I feel about this situation.
Thanks ahead for all the comments already!

2024.05.19 14:26 Badboyardie Xpeng AeroHT, an affiliate of Xpeng, aims to deliver its flying cars $XPEV

Xpeng AeroHT, an affilaite of Xpeng, aims to deliver its flying car to customers in 2026, the Chinese electric vehicle maker’s co-president told CNBC on Friday, Last year, Xpeng AeroHT introduced the Land Aircraft Carrier — a large truck with a flying two-seater passenger electric drone inside. The flying car can detach from the truck, and people can then get into the drone and fly it. Brian Gu, co-president of Xpeng, said the vehicle will be available for pre-order this year, adding that the company hopes to deliver the unit in 2026. “The reason we are confident, because we are designing this for the use not in urban centers, but for outskirts in scenic areas where
we will work with municipalities to create flying parks and flying zones that allow people to enjoy flying without the hassle of getting all the complicated approvals,” Gu noted. Xpeng said this year that the flying car is currently going through a certification process with the Chinese aviation regulator. The 2026 timeline is slightly later than the fourth-quarter 2025 delivery target that Xpeng had previously touted. Reported By CNB

2024.05.19 14:25 mywritingit [RF] Then and Now

As she lets me in, the real estate agent says that I am responsible to return the house to its original condition for the new tenants, otherwise the landlord will hire professional cleaners and claim the bond to cover the cost. She threatens to pursue the estate if the bond money does not cover the clean. I don’t know what gave her the idea that there is an estate.
‘A good family would do at least that much for each other, wouldn’t they? I’m sure there is lots of family
treasures in there you’d like to keep safe.’ she says, but I can see the disgust on her face as she discovers the state of the house. My stomach drops and squeezes my throat as her words bring back the guilt from our phone call.
Seeing this place makes me pity them. They had nothing. Why had I been so angry with them?
The agent was able to find me because legislation requires real estate agencies to have a next of kin for tenants. My parents nominated me as next of kin. Hearing that made me feel guilty. There was nobody else they could nominate.
I don’t reply to the agent and stare into the house. Roots of overgrown junk seek out space across the floor and holes in the wall break up the colour scheme of brown dirts, grey/green moulds, and black holes. One hole must be above a horizontal wall stud because a bottle of rum is sticking out at a 3 o’clock angle from it with its lid off.
The agent continues to talk, walks away to her car, and then drives away. At least, I assume she did when I finish staring into the house.
I walk through the house and open the door to my bedroom. It is the same as I left it years ago. The mattress festers, the walls remember cigarettes, and stains remain the only decoration. It hasn’t changed since I was born.
I know that there are thousands of events that make me who I am, but there a few which I like to remind myself of. I like to remind myself of absorbing the project slides of ENGIN103: Engineering for Transit and dreaming about what it would feel like to ride a train route that I had designed. I like to remind myself of arriving for an internship at Foley and Sons and not leaving until 10pm, so that I could see the nightworks for the motorway. I like to remind myself of sitting with Foley as he assigned me as project manager for the tunnel across the river. Last month, I apologised for the project issues so far.
“Projects have issues. That's why there is a project manager. We are lucky to have you,” he said.
I like to remind myself of that.
This house makes me remember what I don’t remind myself of. I remember my mother telling me that nobody she knew was smart enough to be an engineer and refusing to drive me to campus because it would be a waste of her time. I remember getting a sore back at 21 from having to study on my bed and staying at university all day so that I had a space to study. I remember studying on the 90-minute bus commute with only a single ham and cheese sandwich for lunch that sometimes made me sick because the fridge wasn’t cold enough at home. I remember my father telling me that I, “Don't know shit,” and that I would be dead in a week if I moved out in a housing crisis when I said being closer to university would be good for me.
A lump in my throat forms and it brings back a memory where I cannot speak, “You have one new message. Message received today at 8:55 PM. I knew you could do it. Looking good in those grad pics that Auntie Shirley posted. Let me kn–Message deleted. You have no more messages.”
Couldn’t I even text them back?
I pull my old bed out from against the wall, and it rattles the room as it grips the old timber flooring. There is still a loose floorboard. I pry up with a key and part the old collection of junk which I had stored over the years. I see a single scrunched up piece of paper. I pry it out of its ball and see the floor through numerous holes chewed out by rats. This is my first academic transcript. I showed this to my family after finishing my first semester of engineering. It reads that I was in the awarded a certificate for academic achievement after scoring in the top 5% of the grade. I had never worked so hard for anything. I had never achieved anything. My eyes swell with tears, and I hear them laughing, ‘Lot of good that does us. They only accept money at the grocery store.’
My guilt returns to anger.
I knew it was right then and I remember it now.
I turn around and I leave.

2024.05.19 14:24 wspartan Tips on maximizing range?

Hey all,
I bought a new model y performance in March and I absolutely love the car. But I’m finding I’m getting much less range than advertised. Yesterday I had a lot of driving to do and charged my car to 95% because I figured I could do with the extra range. The car was estimated to give me around 400km of range but I found at 200km of driving I was having to plug it in because I fell under 10%. I know the range estimates are not fully accurate but I felt this was a significant shortfall. The driving was on the highway at fairly high speeds of 120-130km so I reckon that may have had something to do with it.
Anyways, I heard range can be maximized by reducing acceleration to chill mode instead of sport. Are there similar changes I can make to the steering mode (I currently use comfort) and the stopping mode (I currently use hold).
Similarly, how do I check the battery health to see if I didn’t just get a faulty unit.

Training

This was a spring full of sharp turns and hard knocks. The original training went towards the Cheap Marathon in Derry, NH. (That race was reported upon by flocculus here.) Training then consisted of maintaining 30-40 weekly miles, with a weekly long run adding two miles from the prior week, with some fluctuation. My hometown is quite hilly, so I foregone specific hill training as all of my runs were not near flat. My final long run was 21.5 miles March 6 before tapering down my weekly long runs.
A freak snowstorm delayed the Cheap Marathon from 4/6 to 4/20, however on 4/9 I fell in my gym shower. Either a rib contusion or hairline fracture paused any running or training for nearly two weeks. Scrambling for some sort of race to scratch the itch and not toss away months of prior training, I found 3 Days at the Fair online – a six day affair featuring ultramarathon categories from 50K to 144H races. They offered a marathon category, with an alluring 50K at similar start times. Naturally, I signed up for shy of 5 more miles than a marathon. One of my running mates gave me the best advice that "ultra running is more of an eating contest than anything else." Considering that during prior marathons I had salt tabs and 3 or 4 GU packets, I thought more about this statement. Hoping my ribs and legs would stand up, I went for the race.
Note: If registering for this race, you can choose the specific date and time you wish to start it. Just stick to that time. I would end up toeing the line with three other 50K runners who opted for the Saturday 9AM start. One could have theoretically started their run any day between Monday and Saturday, at 9AM or 6PM.

Pre-race

The Sussex County NJ fairgrounds were easy enough for me to get to. Those who were not running longer ultra races had plenty of parking mere steps from the registration/food/starting line. (Those running longer races have opportunities to park campers, tents, and so forth.) Weather was gray and cool, at 58˚F/14˚C -ish. I ended up playing with how I'd pack for the run, before noticing racks set up after the start line into which you could place your water bottle so as to not hold it the entire time.

Race

For check-in, I picked up my swag (a plush bathrobe) and timing ankle chip. No bibs here! At 8:50, marathoners and 50K'ers were brought to the respective start lines, 0.1 and 0.2 miles after the timing mat. At 9AM, we would run against the sea of all other runners back to the starting mat, turn around, and continue in the anti-clockwise 1 mile loop course. This is why marathons are 27 laps and 50K is 32 laps – that quarter lap registered as "lap 1 completed," so 31.1 miles registers as 32 at the end. I'm getting ahead of myself!
I found the course compelling enough to follow. After the timing mat, there is a short uphill that weaves past the toilet and shower area, and toward a hairpin. While the 'pin itself was set wide, most of the time I would walk it because of traffic or weakening knees. This continued straight past a Camper's Row of sorts with mild downhill. The second half runs a long arch around the grounds, with a gradual gentle uphill. The course is paved except for a 200m segment of packed gravel – if it had rained, this part could've been muddy. The course completed after a shot down a causeway, and left turning back to the mat. It's this area where registration, fuel/food/catering, and timing is displayed. Overall, no real potholes to be concerned about, just 31 total laps of this!
Hydration and food – tons of everything including Impossible Burgers, PB&J, cola, and sports vitamins – was supplied after the timing mat. I kept track of which lap I was on with a big-screen projection. My name, lap number, prior lap time, and total time appeared. Every 30 minutes or so I decided to take in calories. This included GU Rocktane, GU Vanilla (sooooo good), two stroopwaffels, two ice pops, and a few salt tabs. It was roughly 400 or so more calories than I would have consumed during a race. Hydration was also a factor, that the course was completely uncovered made me feel hotter and "drier" than normal. I might have taken on about 50 fl oz / 1.5 liters of water. My stomach tolerated this!
The main causeway/timing mat area is where I stopped for water and stowed my foods so I didn't have to carry it around. Early on, I didn't understand where the timing screen was, so took minor detours in the registration area. These factors are why my paces seem inconsistent by 30-odd seconds per mile at points.
The people here are amazing! Other runners were highly supportive, chatty, upbeat. One person was dressed up like a chicken (the race logo featured one), and another person blasted some pretty appropriate and popular tunes. It would be a game for me to guess the artist or song on every lap – we had a great banter going! Another group had a dry-erase board and changed it every few minutes or so with a new dad joke. Naturally, I had to stop to retort with another. For example, they wrote, "3.14% of sailors are pi-rates!" I replied, "if it's $4.50 in Jamaica for a beef patty, $3.50 in DR, and $2 in Trinidad, are those the pie rates of the Caribbean?" Sorry, not sorry.
The lack of proper training began to present itself around mile 22. Pacing was targeted at 8:00-8:15 per mile, with goal half-marathon splits at 1h45m or so. After mile 26, I was 3h40m44s, ten minutes off goal pace. Around that point I slowed, taking more walk breaks but promising myself to run at least half every lap. Landmarks were mentally set to designate where walking and running would occur. When I crossed the line I was done.

Post-race

From a mental standpoint, the concept of so many laps did not bother me. My daily runs more often than not are laps in my parking lot, and I've completed a few half marathons on traditional 400m tracks a few times prior – especially during the Global Pandemilovato of '20. Physically, my legs did not feel any worse than they would have after 26.2 miles. My stomach was actually doing quite alright – nausea and headache would set in within a few minutes of finishing other marathons, but not today. My buddy's advice is making me rethink my marathon strategy.
As the event is ultra-marathon focused, finishers of marathon and 50K received a coin. The longer the distance, the larger the coin, with special awards for those who have invested 100+ miles with the organization. (A paver brick [!] stamped with the runner's name is awarded after 1,500 miles with the organization.) Either way, I circled back to the registration area to press my luck at burger availability. Unfortunately they were out, yet making more. While at the beginning of the race the smell of bacon and pancakes wafted onto the line, the sweet smell of success – naturally, manifest as deliciously greasy burgers – greeted us at the end.
Post-race nutriton in my car included Gatorlyte electrolytes, SiS Rego Rapid recovery, and 1.5 liters of water. I opted against the on-site showers and made the long ride home for one which was far more satisfying.
EDIT: Added info about registration. EDIT 2: Grammar.

Copy/pasted because you gotta give them your email

Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell's plan to overhaul the city's transportation network seeks to dramatically expand bus service, add miles of new sidewalks, shorten commutes and bolster safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Why it matters: The plan, which O'Connell calls Choose How You Move, is his solution to an issue that has vexed generations of city leaders. It will require a sales tax increase that is likely to appear on the November ballot. State of play: Nashville is one of four of the 50 largest U.S. cities without dedicated funding for mass transit, which advocates say has clogged highways and hampered growth.
Because many federal grants require dedicated local funding for transportation, Nashville misses out on federal money for upgrades. But if the plan is approved, the city would be in line for over $1.4 billion in federal funding for transportation over the next 15 years, the mayor's office says. Between the lines: At a kickoff event at the Southeast Community Center in Antioch Friday, O'Connell sold the proposal as a way to ease the rising cost of living and improve quality of life for everyday Nashvillians.
O'Connell is asking residents to agree to a half-cent sales tax increase to pay for the plan. Although the initial price tag for the plan is $3.1 billion, his administration declined to immediately release a larger cost estimate that will also appear on the ballot in November. What he's saying: A recent Forbes analysis of drive times, public transit and walkability ranked Nashville as the hardest commute in the country.
To demonstrate how the plan would help, the mayor's office says a drive down perpetually congested Murfreesboro Pike would be 12 minutes shorter if the proposal is approved. "We will all benefit from Choose How You Move, whether anyone takes the bus or not," O'Connell told a crowd of supporters at Friday's event. During his announcement, O'Connell outlined specific improvements proposed under Choose How You Move.
đŸš¶ Sidewalks: A lack of sidewalks has headlined the list of neighborhood complaints in Nashville for decades. O'Connell says his plan will address that by building 86 miles of sidewalks.
The result will be a 50% increase in the number of walkable neighborhoods. 🚩 Signals: Acknowledging that most Nashvillians don't take the bus, easing traffic congestion for everyone is a priority in Choose How You Move.
O'Connell proposes building or modernizing 592 traffic signals. The improved signals will use technology to manage traffic flow. A new traffic management center can analyze where congestion is the worst and make changes to signal patterns in real time. 🚌 Bus service: The plan would add bus rapid transit — which is super-fast bus service synched to traffic signals — on busy corridors such as Murfreesboro Pike, Nolensville Pike and Gallatin Pike. Some of the rapid buses will travel on dedicated lanes, avoiding car traffic.
O'Connell proposes to build 12 transit centers and 17 park-and-ride facilities for commuters. Choose How You Move would increase total bus service by nearly 80%, according to the mayor's office. ⚠ Safety: Nashville has been plagued by pedestrian deaths and unsafe intersections. In response, the proposal seeks to make the necessary safety improvements at 25 intersections and 78 miles of the most dangerous stretches of Nashville streets.
By not disclosing the larger price tag that will appear on the ballot, the O'Connell administration kicked the can on the most likely source of political criticism.
What we're watching: According to an outline of the plan, the initial cost estimate is $3.1 billion. However, that figure doesn't include additional costs that will also be disclosed in the actual ballot language.
Kevin Crumbo, O'Connell's top finance adviser, says an audit of the proposed financing will be conducted and the ballot's dollar figure will be released in the coming weeks. By the numbers: Raising sales tax by half a cent comes out to 25 cents for every $50 a person spends. O'Connell's administration estimates it would cost most Nashvillians about $70 per year.
He touted the fact that 60% of Davidson County sales tax collections come from non-residents — either tourists or business people who commute to work here. The intrigue: Prior to O'Connell's speech on Friday, an immigrant rights advocate, a union leader, a transit activist, a North Nashville resident and a college educator spoke in favor of the plan, foreshadowing the political coalition he hopes will make the referendum a success.
O'Connell's transition team suggested the measure go on the ballot in an election year when turnout, especially among Democrats, is the highest. Yes, but: Just six years ago, voters demonstratively rejected a transportation improvement plan. Even so, armed with new polling, O'Connell's team begins this referendum effort with tremendous optimism.
O'Connell says his plan comes with significantly more community input and with more immediate impact on residents than the 2018 proposal. The bottom line: In a preview of his sales pitch, O'Connell said that for the cost of putting an extra quarter in the jar with each visit to Target or Kroger, residents will get "easier access to a school, park, library, grocery store, small business" and more mass transit.
"I think being able to demonstrate the clear benefit is going to make the cost palatable," he says. What's next: The state comptroller, Metro Council and Davidson County Election Commission must sign off on elements of the plan before it is officially on the ballot.
