But I was contacted through email by the recruiter directly to schedule interviews with the team managers for role A (got to skip the phone screening I guess for being an ex intern). I am scheduled to interview next week for role A but I would really like to be considered for role B as well.
Should I apply directly for role B through the website? Should I email the recruiter and let them know about my interest in role B?

Alright, so we will start from the top.
When first dating my husband there were comments from his family herd secondhand from others that knew his family.
Comments like, "You know she's dated A LOT of guys before you."- my father in law. And "You guys should just try long distance"- Sister in law. There was the incident where his Mom came to my husband crying and begging for his sister's to be in the wedding as my brides maids even though I didn't know them very well and his one sister thinking we were moving too fast.
There's the awkward me having to tell my father in law my weight in front of multiple family members on a family reunion trip. Making me feel really uncomfortable because I had gained weight and I knew it..
The overall feeling invisible and out of place in the room at most reunions. Not really having the same option or challenging beliefs of others. Most of the time I want to have deep conversations and not just surface level conversations. That and his family is really into sports, which good for them, but I am definitely more of a lets garden and read a good book kinda gal.
Basically, I am the married in black sheep and to be honest that's okay with me. What's not okay is this tale I am about to tell. Sit down and get comfortable.
At the recent family reunion it seemed to start off awful my kids get MAJOR carsick (I have 4) and my daughter throws up on the way to said event. Leaving us to realize we left our bathroom bag at home. Which no big deal, till I have no glasses with me and if your blind like me you know when contacts come out and no glasses are on might as well be completely blind.
We make it to said reunion and we are paired with another family with young kids my husband is 1 of 6. All the young children are supposed to share a room next to ours upstairs. I told my husband I was nervous about this and he tells me his usual, "It'll be fine"
Naturally it wasn't. We kept our youngest in with us who kept me up all night since I was brest feeding and my husband's nipples are useless. So when I say I was up all night, it was literally just me up all night. Not to mention my kids aren't the kind that sleep anywhere and they have internal alarm clocks of 630-7am there's no sleeping in for them unless they are ill. It was frustrating because I would go to put my kids to sleep and 30 minutes later their kids would come in and be super loud and wake my kids up. I'm sleep deprived they are sleep deprived and not to mention I probably live in burn out 90% of the time due to not having any community or family support.
On day 3 of trip I am then tasked with watching additional children without my consent. Like one parent was out exercising another left to go with pretty much everyone else to play basketball. My MIL was at breakfast with some of her friends. So, it's me and 6 kids at a random air bnb somewhere cold and I am exhausted. (Don't worry, I had that beef out with my husband later)
Did I mention that some of the family came with covid?
The next day the whole family was supposed to go on a hike but it would have been an hour and a half drive to the hike and an hour and a half back. We were to leave the day after and our drive to the reunion was the longest. So, we told them no not happening my MIL wasn't happy.
That night my youngest was having a hard time sleeping and started to develop a cough I thought greeeeeat is this covid? I LOUDLY announce my kids are going to sleep before heading over to our house that we are sharing. As my husband and I are trying to get our kids to sleep. My SIL decided it was the perfect time and place to bathe her kids loudly in the bathroom that is IN the kids room. Despite there being 2 additional bathrooms. My husband popped his head in and asked them to be quiet that their cousins were trying to go to bed. Ignored by the SIL.
When all kids were finally asleep I went down to grab some medicine. For my youngest and my MIL asks for probably the 3rd time if we could change our mind about going on the hike. I said no not happening. She asked if there was anything else wrong. To which I looked at my sister in law and said "Hey could you use a different bathroom next time? Or tell us when you're putting your kids to bed tomorrow night. It was kindof inconsiderate when I was putting my kids down to wake them up and be that loud.." her response, "I didn't know" I said "okay, tomorrow night can you use a different bathroom?" She said okay and halfway up the stairs I hear it..
"I have been so freaking nice to her can you believe that?!.. " and goes on to trash talk me more with her husband and my 2 in laws. I walked back down and said if you have something to say then say it to my face.
To which my MIL gets involved and said, "You should have said something in the moment." And told her that she was being too loud (not knowing at this point my husband DID). You should have told her to move. To which she chimes in and says, "It's their bathroom too!" To which I then say "There are 3 bathrooms in this house I am exhausted, my kids are exhausted, and now I am being told I am wrong for asking you to use a different bathroom?" My MIL dismissed me and told me to go to bed.
I was livid. I was dismissed and treated like a child. My in laws let her talk shit about me and didn't even defend me and apparently people are doing me a favor by being nice to me? I was DONE.
I told my husband what happened and that I wanted to leave that I was over this and treated with disrespect. He said that's fine I get it. I packed up and we were going to leave. My MIL saw this the next morning and cried told me I was being selfish gaslit me and told me I attacked my SIL that didn't I see her crying? I was like nope because when my contacts are out I can't see.
My husband let her and my father in law rip into me. (He said he didn't want to be involved big betrayal to me that we have had to work through) I tried to talk to my SIL and apologize if it came off as me :attacking her" as my MIL put it. And she walked away from me and wouldn't even let me talk to her. It was awful. If you, "Love" someone and want them to feel like family idk about you, but this ain't the family for me.
I have since distanced myself there was back in forward emails with my MIL about what I "should" have done. Lots of I'm sorry, but's.. and I wasn't about to deal. I told her we can disagree and give our relationship space. She tried sending a letter asking to start over, but never truly apologizing. My SIL too. Nothing.
I can take a lot of crap in my life truly. And I have. But this. This was just too much. I decided boundaries are the best way to go. I'd be cordial, but I am NEVER going to a family reunion again. And to be honest, I don't want to have a relationship with any of them because to me it's toxic and manipulative. I apologized for using a tone, but I never yelled as my MIL claimed. And as far as asking someone to be more mindful of my kids I am not going to say that I am sorry for it.
Months later after me no contact with my MIL she calls me to, "hash it out". She starts off with that "she's sorry, but that there seems to be something else going on with me.. I have been a part of the family for so long to act out with such "anger" (because she's still claiming that I was or am angry) I have to have something else wrong." I told her there have been instances over the years and interactions with family members that don't make me feel like I belong. I was candid and volunerable with her. Wrong. Move.
"Wow it sounds like you have a lot of insecurities that you may need to work through have you thought about seeing a therapist for your mental health?" -MIL
I am ALL about mental health, therapy is for EVERYONE. But WTF. I set a boundary she doesn't like it now I need therapy, because I don't want to play nice and be manipulated? Then halfway through the conversation of me defending myself and reliving the trauma I already experienced she says, "well, maybe I have nothing to be sorry for.." there it is folks. Can we say narcissist?

Hello, I used to cast CS:GO a few years back. Casted for CEVO, GameFace, N3rdstreetgamers LAN, Challengermode and more. I've casted for a few things in Valorant but again this was a few years back now. Lately I've been wanting to get back into it as I've returned to playing the game again. In Valorant I was ASC3-IMMO and played in teams as well as IGL'd at IMMO3 Level so I add that level of personal experience to my casts as I understand the game a decent amount at this point.
I'm 25, UK, use an Audio Technica AT2020 + Scarlet 2i2 for mic quality. I have experience working in production as well as hosting and interviewing players. I'm able to create overlays and animations for things I cast for that also add another element to the broadcasts.
I'm looking for an event/tournament interested in having someone cast their matches. As well as if a team that's playing in an event wouldn't mind having their games casted too. I'm mainly a play by play caster but as said before I've got some experience with hosting etc too.

Background: 19F, 5’6, 120lbs
I live in the Southern US, no trips out of the country, I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hypermobility) Family history of gallbladder disease (mom, grandma, and great grandma all had to have their gallbladders removed) Currently waiting on appointment with gastroenterologist- end of August was the soonest they could get me in I ALWAYS take medicine after eating to prevent issues, I space my medicines out, and do not take any within 2 hours of going to bed/laying down.
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, constipation, severe stomach cramping, inability to eat a normal amount of food in one sitting, diarrhea, mucus in stool, bloating, weight loss, reflux, hot flashes
Meds: Birth control pill, 30mg Adderall ER, 20mg paroxetine, daily antihistamine (usually xyzal or allegra), albuteral inhaler x2 daily, fluticasone inhaler 2x daily, stool softener as needed, ondansetron as needed.
As long as I can remember, I’ve had sudden and unexplained bouts of nausea, stomach pain, cramping, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea. I did end up with C. diff at 15 after being on clindamycin soon after being on doxycycline. I was treated for it and did see a gastroenterologist who also gave me omeprazole for my reflux but I discontinued it after I found it was making my reflux worse.
After I recovered from C. Diff, I went back to my normal symptoms of constipation and early fullness. Over the past 2 years I’d say it has gotten a lot worse. I’ve worked with my GP to wean off my medications one at a time to see if that changed my symptoms, but there was no improvement. I drink a lot of water every day, I try to eat as well as I can with fruits, veggies, protein, fiber, etc. I am not able to eat much in one sitting. As an example, I was starving and when I got my food I was only able to eat 1/4 of a normal sized waffle. I tend to snack throughout the day instead of having fewer large meals.
I have terrible, debilitating stomach pain and cramps after I eat which soon devolves into nausea. I carry Emetrol and extra strength ginger candies with me everywhere I go for when it “flares up” which has kind of become a running joke with my friends. I tried taking pepto bismol for a while but it didn’t seem to help much.
The nausea comes on fast and most of the time I do not actually throw up, but sometimes I do. I really try not to take the Zofran or stool softener unless I have to. If I’ve been trying to poop for 2+ days with no luck/I can tell that I’m not emptying my bowels, then I will. I’ve thrown up in a store’s trash can (while on a date!) that my date had to grab from behind an employee counter, I’ve thrown up in a large cup while driving, etc.
I do feel hungry and I can tell when my stomach is empty, but I feel like my intestines are full at the same time if that makes any sense. I get pretty bloated in my lower abdomen and sometimes have lots of gas when I try to poop. It seems to come and go, and sometimes I can go a few days without feeling too sick and other times I can’t eat anything other than plain applesauce. I was raised being told that probiotics can only help your tummy, so I did try to start eating/drinking pre/probiotics. I think it made my stomach hurt more so I no longer go out of my way for probiotics.

I get progressively more bloated the longer it’s been since I’ve pooped, which makes sense. Sometimes I am able to poop but it’s more like a rabbit poop and I can tell that I haven’t gotten it all out. I would say that I have 2-3 normal sized poops a week, with 2-3 small, round poops. The normal poops have a much more normal shape/texture (at least for me) but I’m beginning to question this.
I thought it was 100% normal to have mucus in your stool until I mentioned it to my friend and she raised some concerns. This prompted me to ask my GP to refer me to gastro. (warning for graphic descriptions)
When I wipe, there are globs of thick mucus on the toilet paper. Most of the time it’s very sticky, yellow, or clear-ish. It’s translucent. The edges of my poop also appear to have the same mucus. I notice that there is a lot more of it if I’m having worse symptoms that day.
Lately, I have been losing weight. It probably has to do with not being able to eat as much, but it is concerning me. I’ve always weighed around 120LBs, and during a really bad episode, I dropped to 113 in the span of a few days. My family and friends have noticed the weight loss and say I do not look healthy. I’ve been trying really hard to put on more weight while keeping my symptoms at bay and as of right now I am at 115lbs. After one of my “normal” poops I lose about 3 pounds, but I am only counting my once a week weight checks to avoid that.
I was unable to pick up my birth control for about 2 weeks, and normally if I forget for even a day I will have intense period cramping and my period will start that day or the next. However, in that entire 2+ week span, I did not start. There was no period cramping, I was not ovulating, I am not pregnant, and there was no spotting or anything. I know hormones are fickle but I am concerned that I’m either not getting enough nutrients from the food that I am eating or that my weight loss has caused my body to decide it’s not worth it.
Do you have any advice for me going forward? Or any ideas as to what it could be? I am not trying to self-diagnose but I do wonder if there are any diets or remedies that someone would recommend in the meantime before I am able to see the gastroenterologist.

Hey, I’ve created a small script for making backups on a BTRFS filesystem, using snapshots, and I name them something like this: snapshotName="regular-$(date +%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S)" So, for example, "2024-05-27T07:02:29"

`` As you can see, I usedate -d` here. And everything works, but someone scared me saying that file names with colons are the embodiment of evil, armageddon, and the end of the world. It wasn’t just about Windows systems (which I’m not interested in here at all), but he also mentioned potential problems with cloud solutions (Google Drive, AWS) - because these are often built to support various operating systems (including Windows, which: doesn’t like colons in file names).
I don’t know how true this is, but I decided to change the format to one with hyphens everywhere, e.g., "2024-05-27T07-02-29", but it turns out date -d doesn’t like that: $ date -d '2024-05-27T07-02-29' date: invalid date ‘2024-05-27T07-02-29’ Similarly, it doesn’t like dots, spaces, or actually… well, that’s my question: what does date -d accept that doesn’t contain colons or other strange things, but is still human-readable? I know I could use the EPOCH format, but I’m looking for something easily readable by humans.

During my mom’s celebration of life, her family sent me awful messages. I didn’t have my phone on me, and I was kicked out of the group before I could defend myself. We followed my mom’s final wishes and spread her ashes in her gardens around her home. Her family was not there for her until the very end. In fact, there were many times during her chemo when they did not talk to her, nor did they know when she was originally rediagnosed.
I was not perfect—no 15-20 year old is, especially one watching their mother die—but I was there every single day. I drove her to chemo and adjusted my work schedule around her and my dad’s doctor appointments to be able to bring them back and forth. If she wanted to go somewhere at night and didn’t feel comfortable driving, I drove her. When she got sick and couldn’t eat, I made her food that was easy for her to eat and encouraged her that it would get better. I worked out with her when she was better so she could regain strength. I got her clothes when she needed them and picked up whatever she asked for.
There are so many parts of the messages that are NOT true. It is not illegal to scatter ashes on your private property, and you do not have to add it to your deed. In fact, what they wanted to do with her ashes (dump them in the lake) was illegal. At no point did they express concerns over what we were doing being illegal. They did express that they didn’t like it and offered the illegal alternative, but we held firm that final wishes should be followed as they are a person's last request.
Now, every year around the time of her death, I think about what was said in those messages, and they make me question the most basic thing: did my mother love me? If she did, why did her family feel the need to blame me? Despite some of them seemingly coming to my defense in the messages, I do not doubt that they said the same things behind my back. My mom and I did get into a fight the week she died. Emotions and tensions within the house were running high, and you could feel the end was coming. Neither of us handled it well, but it was not a fight that made me deserve this.
Will I ever be able to let go of this? My therapist encouraged me to share, but I’m worried everyone will agree that they are right.

Cousin 1: Hi me (OP). I have just found out that you and your family are intending on burying your Mom in the backyard today. As far as I can see, you and your family (with the exception of your brother) have not felt bad at all that your Mom has suffered with cancer for all of these years. Your posts about your Mom dying have been cold, to say the least. Anyone who leaves a hospital because she told you to get the hell out, you have serious issues. You could have sat in the waiting room. The cancer spread throughout her body, she's going to say things that she really didn't mean. Thank God Aunt 2 & Cousin 2 were able to get up there and she was not alone when she died. From what I understand during the last few days when she couldn't do anything, you were very nasty to her. You are her daughter. You should have been helping her, that's part of being a adult. You told her to get off her ass and get her own drink and refused to do laundry or help her in any way, shape or form. You young lady should be disgusted in yourself in how you treated your mother. Your brother has been the only one to help her. She took all that time off of chemo when she shouldn't have to care for your father during his heart surgery and this is how you all treat her? If she kept going with the chemo during that time, maybe she would be with us. Where is your respect for your mother? YOU DO NOT BURYING YOUR MOTHER IN THE BACKYARD. I have contacted the State Police, Local Police Department, the funeral home and tomorrow I will be contacting the Town Hall. The state law says that you cannot bury someone in an urn on your property without having a permit from the town and it has to be on the deed and plot plan. If you sell the house, you have to take the urn with you. Use your head. Put the urn on the fireplace and honor your mother. Your mother would not want this and this makes me sick that you would do this to your mother and that your father is going along with it. You are burying her like a dead animal. I hope your proud of yourself for what your doing to your mother. The woman who raised you and did everything for you does not deserve this. And this is how you thank her by burying her in the backyard. It doesn't cost a whole lot to get a cemetery plot and have her buried in a proper location. You do have a life insurance which can be used to bury her properly. I am positive that your mother is completely appalled as to what you are doing to her remains. I'm just telling you upfront what I have done. I don't care if you like it or not, but my Aunt does not deserve to be buried in the backyard, it is not something she would want. BTW, there are very serious fines for doing this, up to $10,000.
Uncle 3: Who made you the judge? Is it because of all the time that you spent visiting and talking with my sister that you know what her final wishes were? Did she tell you that she was stopping chemo to care for her husband because me (OP) made her do it? Having visited - and talked with my sister- before her husband went in for surgery, I know that stopping the chemo was her decision. She very much appreciated all that her husband had done for her in these final months. Me (OP) was left with the task of dealing with what needed to be done once she died. Leave the OP’s family alone. If you will not help, go away.
PS Facebook and email are not the way to deal with issues like this. Look the person in the eye and talk to them!

Cousin 1: It amazes me that everyone was so upset about this yesterday when this was found out and now your not and think this is ok. Not one of her sisters or brother were even invited to this cook-out, that should at the very least upset you. She would not want to be buried in the backyard, she's not an animal. Believe me, if I had enough time to call them I certainly would have, unfortunately I had to get ready for work. And for your information Uncle, I talked to her numerous times. OP’s dad is the husband and he should be doing what needs to be done, not a 20yo girl who doesn't know what to do since she hasn't ever been exposed to something like this.
Cousin 2: First off, Cousin 1, I asked OP’s Dad who said he was going to bury her in the back yard NOT TO. I discussed the legalities involved. I spoke directly to all three of them about her faith and ways to allow people to pay their respects to her. I was kind and forthcoming. It's THEIR decision as to what to do. Am I happy that my Auntie is being buried in the back yard? NO. But it's not my place or my decision. You've handled this situation as a full on attack with all sorts of misinformation. For the record, we WERE invited by OP’s Family today. I appreciated that and decided not to attend. I'm honored to have held my Auntie's hand in her last moments. In fact, I believe she waited for both me and Aunt 2. THAT was supposed to happen and I feel blessed and honored to be loved and cherished by her enough to be given that trust. I understand you're grieving and it hurts like hell but please just take a step back and honor the wishes of Auntie's husband and children. It's not our say ... not our place to judge her final resting place. Auntie's siblings decided to honor their decision yesterday and I stand by them. Please STOP and leave me (OP) and OP’s Family alone.
Cousin 1: Well I guess if you all think this is ok then I guess it's ok. Because once again, when I voice an opinion I'm the bad person but everyone else can say and do whatever they want and it seems to be ok. It's kind of like when Nana was dying and everyone got mad at me because I had a priest give Nana last rights. That's what Nana would have wanted. Then we have the lies that the cemetery wouldn't bury her. That was a bunch of crap. The cemetery buries all year round, I called them and asked. 40 year old female, 5'3, weight unknown. No major health issues or chronic conditions other than GERD. Smoker, non-drinker, no drug use.
Hi everyone. Sorry in advance for the length of this post. So roughly 2 weeks ago I was walking my 35 Ibs reactive dog. Unfortunately we ran into a pair of dogs who trigger him and he had one of his "freakouts". While I was pulling him away, he pushed (HARD) against the back of one of my thighs with his feet/claws in his panic. The wounds/scratches themselves were not that deep or bad (I had pants on when it happened), but I developed a massive bruise (or what I was later told was a hematoma) across my back thigh that same day. It honestly didn't hurt that badly in the first few days despite how awful it looked, so I didn't go to the doctor. Just cleaned the scratches with soap and water, put polysporin on them etc. I didn't ice the bruise after it happened, which I regret now.
About a week later, the brusing is looking a lot better, the scratches are scabbing over and look to be healing normally. However, the area of injury is starting to hurt a lot more internally. I heat it with a heating pad a few times a day, but it isn't helping much. I then notice multiple hard (not spongy) lumps under the skin that hurt really badly when touched/pressed. They vary in size and shape, some are smaller and round, one in particular is thick and long. I decide to go to a walk-in clinic at this point.
The doctor there examined it and said it was a hematoma and the hard lumps might be pooled blood. I asked if I needed to worry about blood clots and he said no. He explained I probably should have gotten antibiotics for it initially since it was a wound from an animal's claws, but he didn't think they were needed at this point. He told me it might take a really long time to fully heal, to keep an eye on it, and keep using heat compresses. Cool, I do what he says.
About 5 days later it's looking pretty good, but feeling a lot worse. The best I can describe it is like an alternating aching and burning pain inside my leg around where the hematoma was. The one hard lump in my leg (the huge, long, thick one) is especially hurting. So I go back to the same clinic, different doctor. He again examines my leg, also says I don't need to worry about blood clots, but can't tell me for sure what the hard lumps under my skin are (btw, they aren't visible at all when looking at my leg, you can only tell they're there when touching it). He said they might be damaged tissue, but he can't say for sure. This doctor, however, decides to prescribe me antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication, because he's concerned that it's hurting more at this point than it was before.
That doctor's visit was 2 days ago. I started the antibiotics yesterday (I'm supposed to take one in the morning and one 12 hours later for 7 days). About midday yesterday (after taking my first pill) my leg started to hurt really bad and was looking redder than it was the previous day. The redness has gotten better today, but it isn't feeling any better, and that large/long/thick lump is particularly aching. (Just want to point out as well, there was never a red line going up my leg or anything).
I guess I'm feeling worried and frustrated at this point. I know these things take time to heal and I'm also only on my second day of antibiotics, but I'm really concerned about that lump inside my leg in particular and the fact that it is still really painful at this point and almost seems to be worsening (over 2 weeks after the initial injury). And that nobody can seem to tell me what the hell it actually is. Does anyone have any insights on this or how concerned I should be? I can provide pictures in the comments of my leg a couple days after the initial injury as well as how it looked yesterday, if needed. Thank you!
Medications:
Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid: 875/125mg (one pill twice a day) -- 7 days worth
Naproxen/Esomeprazole magnesium: 500/20mg (one pill twice a day) -- 7 days worth
Pantoprazole 40mg once/day (for GERD)

So I bought a new phone through Cricket's website and went forward with setting it up so I would transfer from my previous carrier (Xfinity) to Cricket. Purchase went through fine including shipping and payment, no issues there. After an hour or so I received and email from Cricket saying: "We need more information for one or more of your lines to complete your number transfer(s)" So I clicked the link and gave them my account number from Xfinity and summited it. Then minutes later I received another email from Cricket saying the same thing as above. My tracking on the order says I have 72 hours to submit the account number before the order is cancelled and it has left me completely confused since I have sent it 3 or 4 times and get the same email every time. I apologize for how much I am yapping but I do not know what to do at this point. Today is memorial day as well where I live, so I do not know if it could just be as simple as that or something. Would like to hear any advice. Thank you.

DAY 9: LEN GOODMAN

This is my first update. Bear with me here. I wanted to write this at 300, but now I'm at 450 somehow.
Intro - Why CI Works and Feels Good
On the drive back from a beautiful botanical garden in Mexico, I was the only person able to speak Spanish amongst my white family, and our driver was a very talkative fellow who knew basically zero English. There was no internet out there, so no google translate. I had learned Spanish only from high school classes, and it was a disaster. I think I said "tenga miedo?" at one point. At the end of the drive I apologized for my bad Spanish, but he encouraged me to keep learning since he would try to do the same with English. We bonded through our terrible levels of each other's languages, and I honestly think that conversation motivated to learn Spanish more than anything.
The methods I tried in my journey prior to CI did not work. Do I really need to go into detail? Language transfer? Nope. Flashcards? Nope. Talking to the taqueria cashier in Spanish? Hell no. Watching casa de los flores with Spanish subtitles? Nope. Nothing felt like it was really working.
In hindsight, the dreaming spanish/comprehensible input method makes so much sense you can't believe you ever felt differently. We learn through actively acquiring and being immersed in our native languages. In a class for my education minor, we learned about how exploring a topic on your own is a great way to actually remember what you're learning. The CI method is exactly that: exploring. Like our prepubescent selves, we are actively filing out our mental maps of the language. Each new word, phrase, and structure, adds to this map, clearing the gray areas from our heads.
Part of the effectiveness of the exploration process are the "A-ha" moments that feel so rewarding. I remember listening to Learn Spanish and Go while waiting for the bus and they used the word "sobresalir" and its meaning just clicked perfectly into place. It was a very gratifying moment, and I've remembered the word ever since. Brute forcing a word through looking it up can potentially work, but internalizing it through multiple contexts of immersion cements it better than anything.
It seems like language learning is figuring out which way to make as much vocabulary stick in your head as possible, and CI does that the best for me. Traditional grammar studying and looking up/translating words weren't really working for me. I would just forget everything constantly. And most importantly, that method was BORING. Without some excitement and tangible progress, what's the point?
What works best for me is a mix of very understandable and just barely understandable content. Both help me learn and remember in different ways. Knowing almost every word singles out those words I don't know and helps me get closer to getting them through context. Harder content challenges me, has usually been much more interesting than other stuff along the journey, and acclimates me to the sound of faster Spanish. This is what I do personally, and it might not be the most efficient way, but it keeps me motivated. The content I used along the way follows.
The Content
Dreaming Spanish - Usage
I found the first 50-150 hours of the journey to be quite difficult. You have to make listening a habit, power through some sort of boring content, and generally feel a bit confused a lot. I watched a lot of DS and a tiny bit of cuentame.
I watch DS more now than ever honestly. I really enjoy videos like Pablo's personal stories in that idyllic little park in Thailand. Conversational content is overall still my favorite though. I just feel like listening to a convo is much easier to pay attention to and not space out than solo stuff.
DS - The Guides
Pablo: Not much to say about the goat. Would love to see him play other games (especially dark souls but more on this later).
Andres: He's just hilarious all around. I love how bad he is at spyfall and other games. He also apparently has an insane life. Was a military firefighter who once dated two gals at once (if he wasn't joking about that). His content is super accessible, and I recommend his advanced series on his military experience to everyone level 4 on beyond, since it's actually pretty easy to understand, and it's super interesting. His videos are always a must watch for me.
Shelcin: Everyone needs to be nicer to Shelcin because she's never done anything wrong ever and when they make fun of her my heart turns a little more blackened
Natalia: She rocks so much. I really hope she continues to do videos with the other teachers since she has fantastic vibes and speaks so very clearly.
Sandra: At first I wasn't a fan of solo talking to camera videos, but as I got more input, her videos really started to click. She's a genuine person, probably would be a cool friend. It's a shame she doesn't interact with other guides, but I assume she's off doing other stuff now and we're just watching backlog stuff.
The Rest: Everyone else is great, but I just don't have much to add about them.
Podcasts:
Spanish for False Beginners: This is premium intermediate CI. It's conversational, at a pretty solid but not too fast pace, the topics are interesting, and there are NO ADS. I really really hate when podcasts have like 2 minutes of ads at the start and end like No Hay Tos since I listen to podcasts at work sometimes where I can't easily skip forward. The podcasts is Oscar from Intermediate Spanish Podcast and his boyfriend (not native speaker fyi) riffing on various topics. They're super cute. Big recommend for this level.
Español Con Juan: I started this podcast at around 200 hours. It was very challenging. It's easier to space out when you find content a little too hard, so I definitely missed some of the middle episodes where he talked about kings and stuff. But when I go back to listen to new episodes it's just insane how clear he is for me now. I can understand basically everything he says at 450 hours. So give him a chance. You really just gotta get used to his speaking style, and then it's not as hard as it seems. And of course, the content itself is amazing, but you all already know that. I hope to live to see the day he tells the story about the dog.
Intermediate Spanish Podcast with Oscar: Starts out kind of slow, and is a little harder than ECJ, but it's just such good input. He gets into some great, even very personal topics later on and speaks very clearly. I've grown to really enjoy this one, even though it's a bit dryer than ECJ.
No Hay Tos: Too hard! And I will never pay for Rosetta stone. I'll give them a chance again soon though. I like the conversational style a lot and they seem funny.
LenguaTalk: Pretty short but great lower Intermediate conversational Spanish between a married couple from Spain. Very cute!
Other Content:
Hajime No Ippo The Spanish dub for this incredible anime is on YouTube for free. I've seen this before, so while it was incredibly difficult to watch at around 300 hours, I did get used to the pace and understood the vast majority of episodes by the end. You'll learn a lot of boxing terms if you're ever wondering how to say HE FELL TO THE CANVAS!!! A DEVASTATING RIGHT HOOK!! In Spanish. But really, this show is so good. The characters are excellent and the boxing is just so fun and tense. Big recommend.
Songs: This is a fairly controversial topic on this sub it seems. I've listened to a ton of songs in Spanish. I don't count this as input, but I genuinely think it can be helpful sometimes to remember vocabulary, especially if you find the song good and catchy. Some genres, like hip hop and reggaeton, are much harder to understand on average than others. I recommend folk and rock to start.

How to Survive the Long March - Things I've Learned Along the Way

1. Watch content you enjoy. If you can't find that at your level, which I definitely experienced at the beginner stage, watch content solely for the purpose of finding new vocab. It's not ideal, but coming at it from an "exploration" mindset can make mundane content much more tolerable.
2. Be realistic about your capabilities. I was shooting for 2 hours a day months ago. I barely hit that goal. Lowering it to 90 minutes helped a ton. Now I'm at 100, and pretty consistent about it too.
3. Find out what helps you keep going. What content works for you? How do you stay motivated? I personally listen to a ton of Spanish at the gym. Even though it's sometimes distracting, making learning Spanish synonymous with improving myself physically has been incredibly motivating. What's your goal for learning Spanish? I want to be able to communicate better with my Spanish speaking students when I'm a teacher. Being able to actually talk in Spanish would be incredibly helpful for me, so I kind of keep that fire under my feet to keep me motivated and consistent.

I will give you 20 dollars personally if this happens. I will venmo you. imagine the DS team playing mario kart or mario party together. 8 player smash bros with every guide. ok that's too far. but gaming content could be really good. how often do we get CI of Spanish speakers getting mad as hell at a game?
This method is going to absolutely blow up one day. People are going to be min maxing the best ways to get input in. They'll be watching 54 level difficulty videos at 1.17 times speed for maximum input. There will be official CI speedruns. This method is so ingenious I kind of can't believe a big corporation hasn't made it as soulless and profitable as possible yet. Get in on the CI train while it's still cool!!
DS has made me think a lot about how little content guys watch that is made from women in general. I didn't watch very many female Youtubers at all when I was in high school, and I think this was true of many friends of mine. I never would have watched something like Michelle's skincare or astrology series in English, so I really appreciate the wide variety of content and diversity one gets exposes to while going through this process.
Future
I'm going to start reading soon, but to avoid the pronunciation thing I'm going to listen to an audiobook as I read along. I have no idea if this will work. That's fine. I'm not a scientist I'm just a guy. I'm doing my best.

Conclusion
Comprehensible input is very rewarding and motivating. It's the method that has worked best for me. I can genuinely say I've improved a ton at listening already. Progress is slow, but man it's so worth it. Learning Spanish gives you the ability to talk to so many more people, and that's a beautiful thing.

After defeating Samoa Joe at AEW: Dynasty, Swerve Strickland is finally the AEW World Champion, and looks to establish himself as the top man in All Elite Wrestling with a dominant and hopefully lengthy title reign. However, now that Swerve finally has the top title, with it comes a target on his back, and now every man in the locker room will have their eyes set on him. Let’s see if he can rise to the occasion and prove himself worthy of being champion, or find out if his time on top ends up being short lived.
Road to Dynamite
On the first edition of AEW Dynamite following Swerve’s win as champion, Strickland kicks off the show by cutting a promo, promising to bring the company into a new era which he will lead by example. He criticizes several other world champions, name dropping Samoa Joe and MJF, and mentioning the “Head of the Table” as paper champions who rarely wrestled and were more than happy sitting in catering while the rest of the roster broke their necks performing on TV. Swerve says he plans on being a fighting champion and promises to wrestle on TV each week before his opponent, Kyle Fletcher, comes out to face him in an AEW Championship Eliminator match, which Swerve wins inside of 10 minutes.
The following Saturday, Swerve holds an open challenge for the AEW Championship on AEW: Collision, which is answered by Claudio Castagnoli. The two go on to wrestle in the main event of the show for over 20 minutes, which once again, ends with Swerve picking up the victory and retaining his title. Following the match, the two shake hands, but after Swerve is left in the ring alone by Claudio to celebrate his win. Swerve is attacked from behind by the former AEW Champion Samoa Joe. Joe brutally attack’s an exhausted Swerve, who is left unable to defend himself. Joe lays the champion out with a muscle buster before locking him in the Conquina Clutch, choking him out in the center of the ring. As Swerve reaches out gasping for air, Prince Nana runs out of the ring with Brian Cage and the Gate of Agony to chase off Joe, who escapes through the crowd as Collision comes to a close.
Following the attack, Samoa Joe is interview backstage in an AEW exclusive by Lexy Nair, who asks Joe why he attacked Swerve the way he did. Joe takes the microphone and says:
“Well Lexy, it's very simple, I was at home on Wednesday recovering from my match at Dynasty, watching Dynamite when I heard Swerve come out on national television and call me a paper champion. Let’s get one thing straight, I am a lot of things, but a fraud isn’t one of them. And I am not a man that takes disrespect like that lightly. So Swerve, take tonight’s beating as a lesson that your actions have consequences. Now as for your other declaration that you’re a fighting champion, how about we put that to the test too? This Wednesday, you versus me in a steel cage match for the AEW Championship. No Prince Nana. No Mogul Embassy. Just you and me man to man. Let’s see who the real fighting champion is. Accept the challenge if you think you got the balls for it, Swerve. I’ll be waiting.”
AEW: Dynamite - 5/1/2024
Despite pleas from Prince Nana and the rest of the Mogul Embassy not to accept the challenge, Swerve Strickland agrees to defend his AEW Championship against the former Champion Samoa Joe in a Steel Cage match, just 4 days removed after a brutal title defense against Claudio Castagnoli, after which, Joe attacked Swerve and choked him out in the center of the ring. Not wanting to wait for the main event, the two men decide to kick off the show with the title bout, and make their entrances to the rings alone before squaring off in the center of the ring as the cage door is locked and the referee calls for the bell.

The two men lock up to begin the match, with Swerve trying to nail Joe with punches to start off the bout, but Joe quickly overpowers him, backing Swerve up against the turnbuckle pads. Joe nails the champion with repeated chops across the chest before irish whipping him across the ring into the adjacent turnbuckle pads. Joe rushes at Swerve, hoping to squash him against the ring pads, but the champion bounces off the pads and nails Joe with a running knee to the chest, dropping the challenger down to a knee. Seeing an opening, Swerve runs the ropes and tries to hit Joe with a running cross body, but Joe catches him in mid air and hits Swerve with a snap scoop powerslam. The champion tries to get up to his feet quickly, but Joe grabs him by the hair and hurls him face first into the sides of the steel cage. Swerve tries to pull himself up quickly with the ropes, but Joe charges towards him and slams the champion against the cage walls.
Staying on offense, Joe drags Swerve back to the center of the ring before lifting him up onto his shoulders and nailing him with a knee crossed gutbuster. As Swerve lays down on the mat squirming as he tries to regain his composure, Joe hits him with a running senton, and as his massive weight crashes down on the champion, Joe goes for the first cover of the match, but Swerve kicks out at 2. Frustrated, Joe pulls Swerve up by the hair and irish whips him into the turnbuckle pads again. He charges towards him and slams him against the pads before climbing the ropes to gain leverage and starts nailing him in the head with jabs. Joe gets to the count of 9 with punches before Swerve gets a second wind, grabs Joe by his trunks and runs forwards to nail him with a running powerbomb. Swerve goes for the cover, but Joe kicks out and the match continues.
Now on offense, Swerve gets up to his feet and nails Joe with a chop across the chest before drilling him with a roundhouse kick right to his jaw, dropping Joe down to a knee. Seeing an opening, Swerve leaps onto the ropes before diving back towards Joe and nailing him with a cutter. Swerve goes for the cover again, but Joe kicks out at 2 once more. Looking to put him away for good, Strickland climbs up to the top ropes and leaps off of them to hit Joe with a House Call but at the last second, Joe rolls out of the way. Swerve rolls through the move ,regains his footing and charges at Joe, but Joe pulls himself against the ropes, catches Swerve and nails him with an ST Joe, dropping the champion to the ground. After taking a second to regain his composure, an exhausted Joe lifts up Swerve onto his shoulders and nails him with a muscle buster, hoping to finally but the champ away, but Swerve once again kicks out.
Furious, Joe quickly transitions into the Coquina Clutch and tries to incapacitate Swerve to win the match. The champion looks like he’s beginning to fade, but manages to power out of Joe’s submission and nails him with a spinning back kick as the two pop up to their feet, dropping Joe down to a knee. Swerve summons all the strength he has left and bounces off the ropes before nailing Joe with a running knee to the back of the head before going for the cover 1-2-NOOO!! Somehow Samoa Joe kicks out again and Swerve is in disbelief. Desperate to win, Swerve looks towards the sky and decides to climb to the top of the cage as Joe slowly makes his way back up to his feet. As Swerve reaches the top of the cage and turns back around, Joe finally stands back up and faces him with a daze. The champion takes a leap of faith and dive off the top of the cage, nailing Samoa Joe with a cross body before going for the cover and pinning him 1-2-3 to finally win the match.

Following the match, the cage is raised and Joe rolls outside the ring to be treated by the AEW medical team while Prince Nana and the rest of the Mogul Embassy come out to the ring to celebrate with Swerve. Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony lift the AEW Champion high onto their shoulders in victory as Strickland’s music plays through the arena, as for the time being, Swerve’s reign will continue.
Road to Double or Nothing
The following week on Dynamite, a 4-Way match pits Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, Wardlow and Dustin Rhodes against each other with the winner being named no. 1 contender for the AEW World Championship, set to face Swerve Strickland at Double or Nothing. Swerve joins the commentary team for the match and Christian Cage manages to pick up the win after pinning Dustin Rhodes. Following the match, Swerve gets up from the commentary desk, and he and Christian have a stare down in the center of the ring. In the lead up to Double or Nothing, Swerve teams up with the Gates of Agony to face off against Cage, Nick Wayne and Killswitch in a 6 man tag team match, which the Mogul Embassy lose after Bishop Kaun gets taken out by Killswitch and then pinned by Christian Cage. On the final edition of Dynamite before Double or Nothing, Swerve defeats Nick Wayne in a singles match and picks up momentum heading into his title defense against Christian.
AEW: Double or Nothing - 5/26/2024
In the semi-main event, the AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends his title against Christian Cage. Earlier in the evening, Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony are attacked backstage by the Patriarchy, meaning they will be unavailable for the evening’s main event. Cage makes his entrance first, escorted out to the ring by the entirety of the Patriarchy, while Swerve comes out only with Prince Nana in his corner. After a brief stare down prior to the start, the referee calls for the bell and the match begins.

The pair lock up and Swerve quickly gets the upper hand on Cage, backing him up against the turnbuckle pads and nailing him with chops across the chest. Swerve then takes a step back and bounces off the adjacent pads before rushing at Cage to hit him with a big boot against the post, but Christian rolls out of the ring to evade the attack and recover with his stable. Cage calls for a water bottle to rehydrate himself before rolling back into the ring at the count of 8, but quickly rolls back out again to regroup. Frustrated by the challenger's antics, Swerve jumps up onto the top turnbuckle and leaps towards the outside, taking out the entirety of the Patriarchy with a diving crossbody, however, Christian escapes at the last moment. As Swerve tries to get up to his feet quickly, Christian charges towards him and nails him with a spear on the outside of the ring. With the champion down, Cage clears off one of the announcers tables and loads Swerve onto it before nailing him with a killswitch on top of the table. The champion rolls onto the ground in pain, and Cage grabs him by the hair, rolls him back into the ring to go for a quick cover, but Swerve kicks out at 2 and the match continues.
Christian tries to stay on offense, nailing Swerve with punches to the forehead before setting him up for another killswitch. Swerve fights out of Cage’s finisher, grabs him by the waist and nails him with a german suplex as a reversal. Cage tries to pull himself up with the ropes, but Swerve stays on the attack and nails him with a running knee against the turnbuckle pads before dragging him back towards the center of the ring and going for a pin, but Cage kicks out at 2. Seeing a chance to put Cage away for good, Swerve climbs up to the top ropes and sets up to nail Cage with a House Call, however, Nick Wayne jumps up on the ring apron and tries to stop him. Swerve kicks Wayne off the apron, but the distraction allows Cage enough time to recover, and he runs up the turnbuckle pads, grabs hold of Swerve and nails him with a german suplex off the top ropes. Both men are down and slowly start to get up to their feet as the referee starts to count them out.
They both manage to beat the count and start trading punches in the center of the ring. Swerve gets the upper hand and manages to take down Christian. He climbs back up to the top ropes, finally nails Cage with the House Call and the referee goes to count the pin 1-2- Killswitch pulls the referee out of the ring and throws him into the ringside barricade to break the count. As Swerve stares down Killswitch in disbelief, Nick Wayne slides into the ring behind Swerve and nails him in the back of the head with the AEW Championship belt. The champion goes down and Wayne and Killswitch take turns beating him down. Killswitch nails him with a chokeslam before he and Wayne pull Swerve up to his feet and Cage picks up the AEW Championship belt. He sets up to nail Swerve in the face with it, but before he can, Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony rush out to the ring to make the save. The two stables end up in a massive brawl into the crowd, leaving Cage and Swerve alone in the ring. Cage goes to hit Swerve with the belt but the champion evades it, bounces off the ropes and nails him with a running knee. With Cage down, Swerve climbs up to the top ropes one last time and leaps off of them to nail the House Call on Christian as the referee rolls back into the ring to count the pin 1-2-3.

Following the match, an exhausted Swerve is joined back in the ring with the rest of his stable, and together the 5 of them walk towards the top of the entrance ramp and pose with the AEW World Championship. On the 5th anniversary show, it appears that Swerve Strickland has solidified himself as the top champion in AEW...or has he?
Road to Forbidden Door
Following Double or Nothing, Swerve Strickland continues his streak of dominance, picking up singles victories against the likes of Daniel Garcia and Rey Fenix in Championship Eliminator matches on Dynamite and Collision. Following these victories, Swerve is interviewed in the ring by Renee Paquette regarding who he plans on defending his title against at the upcoming AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door PPV. Swerve says that he is the most dominant champion not just in AEW, but in professional wrestling today, and it doesn’t matter who he is matched up against, because he 100% plans on bringing home a “the dub.” Just as he finishes speaking, microphone static begins to sound through the arena as Wild Thing by X begins to play and the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley, fresh off of his victory against EVIL at NJPW Dominion, makes his way to the ring. After a brief stare down, Moxley takes the microphone out of his wife Renee’s hand before asking her to leave the ring while he and Swerve talk “man to man.”
“Swerve, listen man. You’re on a nice little run right now. I’m not gonna say you’re not. I mean you’ve got the belt. The crowd likes you. You have that short guy with the funny hat doing that dance when you make your entrance. It’s all good stuff. There’s only one problem. You don’t get to call yourself the best until you beat me. I don’t care that you’re the world champion. Right now, so am I. In fact, that belt on your shoulder, I’ve held more times than anyone. As of today, I am the only man to hold the AEW, IWGP and WWE World Championships. You think just because you had a few good months that you get to call yourself the best? I’ve been in the main event for 10 straight years. I am the ace of this company. Every conversation about who’s number 1 begins and ends with me. But don’t worry, I’m going to give you the chance to prove yourself. You see, you need an opponent at Forbidden Door and so do I. So I say, let’s settle the who’s the real world champion debate to bed and put both belts on the line. AEW Championship vs IWGP Championship. Are you man enough for it?”
After a moment of contemplation, Swerve takes the microphone from Moxley’s hand before simply responding, “You’re on!”
In the lead up to Forbidden Door, Swerve Strickland and the Mogul Embassy enter into a feud with Moxley’s Blackpool Combat Club. Swerve picks up a singles win against Wheeler Yuta on Dynamite while Moxley defeats Brian Cage on Collision. On the final edition of Dynamite before Forbidden Door, in the main event, Moxley teams with Claudio Castagnoli and Shota Umino to face off against Swerve and the Gates of Agony, in which Moxley picks up the win for his team after forcing Toa Liona to submit to a rear naked choke, putting the AEW Champion at a disadvantage heading into their title vs title clash at Forbidden Door.
AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door - 6/30/2024
After weeks of build up, for the first time ever, the AEW and IWGP Championships will be defended in a title vs title match, with the winner walking out with two of the top prizes in all of professional wrestling. Strickland comes out to the ring flanked by the entirety of the Mogul Embassy, while Moxley is walked out by his BCC stablemates. However, before the match begins, by order of AEW CEO Tony Khan and NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi, all of them will be barred from ringside to keep the match fair. Once all are clear, the referee calls for the bell and the main event is underway.
Swerve Strickland vs Jon Moxley: AEW Championship & IWGP World Championship Match
The two circle each other around the ring before locking up, and Moxley quickly gets the upper hand, overpowering Swerve and putting him into a headlock. AEW Champion manages to fight off Moxley and pushes him into the ring ropes. Moxley bounces off of them and goes to hit Swerve with a clothesline, but he ducks under it and as Moxley stops himself on the ropes, Strickland rushes at him and clotheslines him over the top and to the outside. Moxley quickly tries to get back up to his feet, but Swerve takes advantage and bounces off the ropes before nailing Jon with a suicide dive to the outside of the ring. Swerve stays on offense and grabs the IWGP Champion’s arm before irish whipping him into the ring post, dropping him down to the ground.
With his opponent down on the outside of the ring, Swerve walks over to the time keeper’s area and picks up both championship belts and holds them up over his head, cockily taunting Jon Moxley. Swerve then pulls up Moxley by the head and rolls him back into the ring before climbing up to the top ropes. The AEW Champion leaps off of them and goes to hit Jon with a diving elbow, but Moxley spins his body around at the last second and catches Swerve, locking him in a headlock. As Moxley tries to choke Swerve out, Strickland flails his arms around trying to escape Jon’s hold before flipping his body over, turning Moxley’s submission into a pinfall and forcing him to break the hold. The two both pop up to their feet and Moxley rushes at Swerve, taking him down with a clothesline. Strickland tries to rush up to his feet, but Moxley grabs him from behind and nails him with a suplex, dropping Swerve on his head. Swerve tries to crawl over to the ropes to pull himself up, but Moxley rushes at him, nailing the AEW Champion with a running knee to the back of the head. Swerve falls backwards onto the mat and Moxley goes for the cover, however, Swerve kicks out and the match continues.
Moxley sits Swerve up and begins nailing him with elbow strikes to the head repeatedly before he falls backwards onto the mat. Moxley stands him up and goes to nail Swerve with the Deathrider DDT, but Strickland plants his feet and fights out of Moxley’s hold, grabbing him from under his legs and lifts him up over his shoulders, nailing Jon with a vertical suplex and taking the IWGP Champion down. With Moxley down, Swerve pops up to his feet and bounces off the ropes before nailing Moxley with a running knee. Moxley drops down to a knee but doesn’t go down, so Swerve sets up for a second running knee. As he charges forwards, Moxley evades his attack and grabs onto Swerve’s right arm, dragging him down to the mat and locking him in an arm bar submission. Strickland tries to fight out of it but Moxley has it locked in tight, and as Jon looks to force his opponent to tap out, Swerve manages to swing his body around and get one of his feet on the ropes, forcing Moxley to break the hold.
Frustrated, Moxley pulls Swerve up to his feet and irish whips him across the ring into the ring post. Moxley rushes at him and nails Swerve with a clothesline against the pads before climbing up the ropes to gain leverage on Swerve, and he begins nailing him with punches. Moxley hits Strickland with punch after punch, until he snaps out of his daze, grabs Jon by the pants, lifts him up onto his shoulders and rushes forwards, nailing him with a powerbomb. The AEW Champion goes for the cover, but Moxley quickly kicks out of it. Swerve stays on offense and locks Jon into a crossface submission, trying to force him to submit, but Moxley refuses to, and instead fights out of Swerve’s hold. The two men make it back up to their feet in the center of the ring and go back and forth exchanging punches.
Swerve nails the IWGP Champion with a punch, but Jon follows it back with one more in return. Shot after shot. Each blow gets harder and harder before finally, Swerve gets off a few consecutive strikes, sending Moxley falling backwards into the ropes, but Moxley explodes off of the ropes and nails Swerve with a clothesline. Both men slowly get up to their feet, but Moxley manages to stand up first. He sets up to hit Swerve with another thunderous clothesline but as Moxley charges forwards, Swerve pulls the referee in front of him and Moxley takes him out by mistake. As Moxley looks on in horror as the referee rolls out of the ring in pain, Swerve takes advantage and nails Moxley with a low blow. As Moxley drops down to the mat, Swerve climbs up to the top ropes, jumps off of them and nails the IWGP Champion with the House Call and goes for the cover but there is no referee to make the count.
As Swerve lays across Moxley exhausted, Brian Cage rushes out from backstage and grabs the AEW Championship belt from ringside. He slides into the ring and tells Swerve to hold Moxley up so he can hit him with it, but as Cage charges forwards, he double crosses Swerve and nails him in the head instead. As Swerve collapses on the mat unconscious, Cage looks on in disgust as he throws the title to the side and heads backstage as the crowd is in disbelief. Moxley slowly drags himself up to his feet, pulls up Strickland and nails him with the Deathrider DDT before the referee rolls back into the ring and counts the pinfall 1-2-3!!!
Jon Moxley def. Swerve Strickland to retain the IWGP World Championship and win the AEW Championship for a record setting 4th time.
Following the match, the rest of the BCC came out to celebrate the victory with an exhausted Jon Moxley, who has now made history, becoming the first man to hold the IWGP and AEW World Championships Simultaneously. However, on the losing side, Swerve Strickland is in disbelief his own stablemate Brian Cage cost him the match and the top title in the company, and will surely want an explanation from him come Wednesday. Forbidden Door ended up being one of the most unpredictable of PPV’s AEW had ever seen and the landscape of the championship picture in All Elite Wrestling has now shifted. But one thing is for certain, as crazy as 2024 has been for AEW, plenty more twists are likely still to come.

I have a question for recruiters or anyone familiar with the current recruiting process.
What's a good cutoff for resumes in job applications these days? Do recruiters really care about quantifying achievements in job descriptions? I'm also looking for tips on clearing ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) to get that crucial interview.
Additionally, how do you effectively reach out to recruiters? Cold messaging on LinkedIn doesn't seem to be working for me. Any advice, tips, or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I started to post this under my regular user account but found myself having to be vague to conceal everyone involved. This is the first time I've used a throwaway account. I'm a regular reader and contributor here, so I already know I'm setting myself up to get roasted. I am looking for feedback and I'm also sharing this as a cautionary tale.
55M married to 51F for 27 years, 3 teens. Not in California. MHCOL.
I grew a company in the online space over the course of 20 years. Built it up to 125 employees, mostly subscription-based, $12M in EBITDA. We had an exit to PE in 2020. $140M valuation, and at the time of the exit, I owned the majority of the company. We got half the cash up front ($70M), rolled 30% of the equity and then had a $10M seller note and $12M in escrow. It was a year-long process with an investment banker, and we took 4 years to get the company ready to sell. It was a crazy and fun experience, and our team was fantastic. We didn't have any outside investors, so with the sale, everyone with equity received a nice payout, with a few team members getting over $1M. All of the non-equity team members got bonuses of 10K a year. Many had been there for 10 years and got 100K bonuses.
My rollover equity, seller note and escrow amounted to $60M. The business was growing, and I figured that I would, at a minimum, get half that amount in 3 to 5 years. Ideally, the company would grow, and it would be more. Possibly much more. We set up all of the trusts and estate planning and were well prepared at the closing.
Heading into closing, we grew an average of 26 percent year over year for 4 years. Shortly after closing, the PE firm decided they needed to bring in professionals. They brought in a new CMO, CFO and a few others. They didn't know the industry and suddenly the team was spending 75% of their time trying to prevent the new team from making horrible mistakes. The PE firm got annoyed with our CEO pushing back, and found a replacement. (By the time of the transaction, I was no longer CEO and was off in the corner working as a creator, which I continued post-transaction).
The new replacement has been trying their best, but they have never run a business before. They did great as an executive in a large company in a similar space to ours. But being a cog in a large company is a lot different than understanding the levers to pull to grow a smaller company. Sales continued to drop as our marketing efforts got watered down (our marketing team was let go and outsourced), and we started losing the A players in the company. We all still keep in touch—we had an amazing time together growing the business.
Fast forward to today, and the company is down to 40% of its team size, half the revenue, and is doing only 20% of the EBITDA at the time of the transaction. The big issue, of course, is the debt the PE firm threw on the company. They used 3.5X leverage at the time, which is a reasonable number. But that was at $12M in EBITDA and near zero interest rates. That doesn't work when EBITDA falls by 80% and interest rates explode higher. I rolled the seller note and escrow back into the company, getting the same preferred stock as the PE firm. (When I did this, I could see the writing on the wall; it was either that or eventually get wiped out by the senior debt, so I might as well go down fighting). We used this to help pay down the debt, but the company is still way over-leveraged with the much lower EBITDA, and the interest rate payments which have adjusted higher are now a monster. The PE firm has decided to sell the company, which is now worth about the same as the outstanding senior debt. I've thought of buying it back, but at this point the whole plan was to bring on "the professionals" so we could continue to grow the business and I would wind down my work life. Plus - do I really want to take on that much high interest debt? The team is unaware that the company is being shopped. In the slide deck, they suggested that the new buyer could get an immediate EBITDA multiplier by firing half the team the day after closing.
Obviously, this has been an upsetting experience, but I have a lot of entrepreneur friends via my networks, and I have heard their PE horror stories. I went into this with eyes wide open. This will be different and all that and we will continue to grow the company and create value . . . all the things. While this has been frustrating, I also have a lot of gratitude for the experience, my marriage is solid and I have hobbies. I'd be fine walking on the beach, learning to kite surf for the next 5 years. It would be fun to start a business with my kids.
This isn't the ending I was envisioning, and it's taken me some time to accept that. I'm not fully there yet but I'm close. Therapy helped. Yoga helps. I probably need to meditate more. I quit drinking so I wouldn't just numb out through this process. The best bio hack ever, unfortunately (or fortunately).
At the time of the transaction, I received $60M in cash. What I did: Put $10M in a CLAT, this is something that will go to our kids in 18 years. Put $20M into real estate. This was all before the Covid run up. This is a combination of a beach home, adding to a ranch we had already owned, half a dozen airbnbs, a commercial space. Most of these purchases were in cash. We did some renovations and updated the furniture and the art on the walls. Invested in 3 businesses and bought some rare collectibles in an actively traded market (portable hard assets). And of course there was a large tax payment.
My general plan was that we'd then use the "second bite at the apple" to make more liquid investments.
What I should have done: Put the remaining original payment into index funds ala Bogle style and live a simple life with one house.
Reality Check - there will not be a second bite, we have a lot of assets that do not generate a positive revenue stream, with the ranch and the business investments acting as alligators that need to be fed cash. We've been slowing digging into savings to make up the difference between expenses and income. While we are not in a precarious situation, I feel like we need to start taking some massive action before we are forced to. For example, I think the real estate market will start to get tougher in 2026-2027. I think I'll be funding these business investments for a long time before they show a profit. We need to cut expenses and get to a situation where we have positive passive income.
In terms of expenses, most of them are for debt payments ($3M in real estate debt, mostly owner financing, 10 year note), maintaining the properties (horses are expensive), and funding the businesses. We spend money on health and fitness with trainers and healthy chef meals. We drive Suburbans, mostly eat at home and fly commercial. We tried private a few times and it was fun but ultimately didn't think it was worth the cost.
We recently went from about $180K a month to $90K a month by selling most of the horses and ranch animals, which cut back on feed and maintenance, stopped all renovation projects (they never end), paid off a few million in mezz-style 10% debt, and cancelled and cut back on a lot of services we weren't really using or didn't need. I think we need to continue to cut, sell off some assets and alligators, and get to a positive passive cash flow situation. (I've seen business friends of mine in a similar situation where they sell, and then they are stressed because they need to work hard to generate cash flow to fund their life style.)
Goals: Keep what you love, let go of decision and cash drains, cut your overhead, move toward a simple life.
These are my questions for the community.

1. The three businesses I invested in require about $300K a year to keep them going. One needs to be shut down and I'm starting that process. It isn't a money suck but I'm reaching decision fatigue. One has the potential to turn into a $10M to $20M sale in 3-5 years with effort and funds. But it would need a lot of effort and a lot of funds. The last is a business serving a community need that will at best generate a positive cash flow in about a year.
   
2. Real estate. Our home in the city is in a very desirable location. We purchased for $2.8M in 2019 and comparables are going for $5M. We have a beach house that we love, lots of renovations; it's great. We don't rent it out. We use it about 4 weeks each year and have thought about moving there - but the schools are crap and we'd likely need to wait until the kids are all graduated high school. (In 4 years). We have a ranch with a few hundred acres and we love it and have lived there off an on. It's near a thriving small town. It's worth around $8M, bought for $3M and is a cash eating machine. With a ranch hand, animal feed, utilities, repairs, etc it is 30K to 40K a month. We could convert this to wildlife exempt and that would cut down on a lot of expenses. I think it would make sense to sell the city house and get something lower maintenance like a condo. Neither one of us wants to sell the ranch and we are thinking of moving back there. This could be a place where our kids would want to live when they are older.
   
3. Collectibles. The market is strong for them. I always considered these a safe and portable "hard asset" but had I put all of those funds into NVDA, or an Index (Bogle style) we'd be much better off today. $15M worth.
   
4. PE business that I own 35% of. I've given up hope here. Or do I step back into the CEO role and do what I know needs to be done and grow it? I could do it - part of me is excited by the challenge and part of me is "don't be an idiot, hang out with your kids." The current CEO has to do zoom meetings multiple times a day with the PE firm to update them on their every move and board meeting prep takes a week and require travel. While I like running a business, I would rather stick a fork in my eye than have to report my every move constantly. That's why I became an entrepreneur - to be left alone to create something.
   

Sorry for the long ramble. It is helpful just laying it out there. Obviously we will be fine financially, so no tears shed. I was thinking we'd end up with a net worth of $150M when all is said and done after the 2nd bite, and realistically we are looking at $40M + give or take. I feel like I need to start taking massive action vs. just sitting around waiting for something to happen while experiencing a negative cash flow life style. i.e., if the market crashes for real estate or gold next week that will make things tougher.
What I think I should do:

1. Sell the $5M city house. Use the proceeds to retire the rest of the real estate debt. If we still want a place in the city we could get a condo.
   
2. Move to the ranch. It's close to the same city and is a 10 minute drive from a thriving small town. We like country life and city life. I'm not sure if there is a point in keeping the ranch if we aren't living there at least most of the time?
   
3. Consider selling the airbnbs or turn them into long term rentals. Any proceeds here could be put into index funds. The main idea here is to simplify our lives.
   
4. Keep the beach house. It's paid off and its a great house.
   
5. Continue working at the company and ride out the process and see what happens. My job is something where I get to focus on things I enjoy and it does create revenue for the company. Maybe something interesting will happen? I've thought of retiring but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that yet. I like what I do. I just wish it was a better environment in which to do it.
   
6. Sell the distribution business that has potential but would require a lot of work and a lot of money. This business does about $4M in revenue but margins are tight. I wouldn't get much for it but it would eliminate an expense.
   
7. Keep the community business. This serves a need in the community and we use it as well. It operates out of a commercial space I purchased and it can't afford the rent. We are close to getting to positive cash flow. If it could pay the rent on the commercial space and get me around $10K a month I'd be fine with that.
