Phish, Saturday 05/28/2022 (2 years ago) The Wharf, Orange Beach, AL, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 2022 Spring Tour
Set 1 : Sigma Oasis , Possum , AC/DC Bag > Reba , Roggae , My Mind's Got a Mind of its Own > The Final Hurrah > Free
Set 2 : A Wave of Hope > Mr. Completely > Walk Away , Golden Age > What's the Use? > The Moma Dance , If I Could > Run Like an Antelope
Encore : I Am in Miami , Izabella
Jamchart Notes:
Sigma Oasis - In a string of strong openers, Sigma Oasis gets the extended treatment for the second time. Soaring play from Trey kicks the jam off, which gives way to a breakdown jam. Mike is inventive and creative throughout.
Free - Some dirty chord work from Trey nudges the jam out of the usual bass-guitar duel into a into a full-on barrage of synths and effects creating a killer atmospheric groove. Filthy, filthy version.
Golden Age - Takes a little bit of time to get going, but then resolves into a funky and bouncy jam not far away from "YPC", grows in power slowly and steadily, and nicely peaks before heading home. As with the 8/11/21 "BOAF" or 11/23/97 "Gin", finds its pocket and stays in it to very nice effect.
Show Notes:
My Mind's Got a Mind of its Own was performed for the first time since October 25, 2013 (285 shows). Page teased Frankenstein in The Final Hurrah. Fish teased Mr. Completely in Walk Away.

Phish, Saturday 05/28/2011 (13 years ago) Bethel Woods, Bethel, NY, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 2011 Early Summer Tour
Set 1 : Theme From the Bottom , NICU , Cities , Halley's Comet > Runaway Jim , Gumbo > Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn) > Limb By Limb , Horn , Bathtub Gin -> Manteca > Bathtub Gin
Set 2 : Down with Disease 1 > Free > Backwards Down the Number Line > Makisupa Policeman 2 > Harry Hood > Cavern > David Bowie
Encore : A Day in the Life
1 Unfinished. 2 With lyrics referencing several band members' houses (and Trey's favorite show, House).
Jamchart Notes:
Cities - Nice little extended outro with a good Trey-led peak.
Halley's Comet - Percussion driven, exploratory version that manages to cover a lot of ground in a relatively short time.
Bathtub Gin - "Gin" -> "Manteca" > "Gin." The "Gin" sections, although largely straightforward, include improvisational playing by Trey. "Manteca" includes "Golden Age" jamming, with fans thus dubbing this version the "GoldenGinTeca."
Manteca - -> in from "Gin." The jamming just before and during this "Manteca" includes teases of "Golden Age," causing fans to dub this version the "GoldenGinTeca." > back to "Gin."
Bathtub Gin - > in from "Manteca" to end this fine version.
Backwards Down the Number Line - The band incorporates a lot of "DEG" teasing/jamming into the standard format. The mood shifts back and forth from bright to dark several times, with "DEG"-like playing at various times throughout, before returning to "BDTNL." A very cool version.
Makisupa Policeman - An energetic, funky jam emerges at around 5:30 after some chanting on "House." This is a fun, well-played version.
Harry Hood - This "Hood" has a really nice jam that sounds similar to "Faht" at times. Returns to "Hood" to close.
Show Notes:
Gin included a mash-up jam of Golden Age and Manteca and later closed with a Manteca quote from Trey. Disease was unfinished. BDTNL featured a DEG tease from Mike. Makisupa included lyrics referencing several band members' houses (and Trey's favorite show, House ).

Set 2 : Axilla (Part II) > It's Ice > Tweezer > Lifeboy > Reba 1 , Fee 2 > Llama , You Enjoy Myself 3
Encore : Poor Heart
1 No whistling. 2 Trey sang verses through megaphone. 3 Les Claypool on bass and Fish on vacuum; no vocal jam.
Jamchart Notes:
It's Ice - Wild, electro-rock jam!
Reba - Super version. Trey drives a great, dark, direct yet swinging groove, with Page providing really colorful fills. Mike is on-point, his play incredible, and, with Fish, inciting a sort of charge from Trey who creates an electric solo through an incredible conclusion.
Show Notes:
This performance was part of the Laguna Seca Daze Festival that also included Sausage, Gin Blossoms and Freddy Jones Band. Trey teased Sailor's Hornpipe in Tweezer. Reba did not have the whistling ending. Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone. YEM featured Les Claypool playing on a second bass guitar and Fish on vacuum, and included a band-accompanied bass duel between Mike and Les and a Gimme Some Lovin' tease from Page, Dueling Banjos teases in the jam segment, and a Yankee Doodle tease. Phish, Sunday 05/28/1989 (35 years ago) Ian McLean's Party, Connie Condon's Farm, Hebron, NY, USA
Gap Chart, Tour: 1989 Tour
Set 1 : Divided Sky , Run Like an Antelope , Colonel Forbin's Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird , Fee -> Slave to the Traffic Light , Esther , Suzy Greenberg , You Enjoy Myself 1
Set 2 : Fire , Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove , Bathtub Gin , Sanity 2 , Ride Captain Ride , Peaches en Regalia , Take the 'A' Train 3 , Possum , Contact 4 , Funky (Breakdown) 5 -> The Price of Love 6 , Funky Bitch , Split Open and Melt 7 , The Mango Song , Harry Hood
Set 3 : Jam -> La Grange Jam , The Sloth , Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley > Ya Mar 8 , Jesus Just Left Chicago
1 Poop Vocal Jam. 2 Fast version. 3 Unknown saxophone player named "Paul." 4 Trey wished the crowd "Merry Christmas" several times. 5 First known Phish performance; Ninja Mike on vocals and Magoo on guitar. 6 Ninja Mike on vocals, Magoo on guitar and Fish on vacuum and trombone. [7] Fish drum solo. [8] Lyrics referenced wild pigs and Paul.
Jamchart Notes:
Slave to the Traffic Light - Although this version begins with spacey elements similar to 5/6/89, it also peaks in a more customary and shredding manner, reestablishing a more conventional approach to the jam.
Esther - > from "Slave to the Traffic Light," this too is slow, patient, and well-played. Trey is particularly on point, deploying a series of "jazzy" chords before offering up a great solo.
You Enjoy Myself - Very good early version with hilarious "POOP" VJ!
Jam - A somewhat dark, low-key jam opens Set III at Ian McLean's Party, builds intensity, and -> to a brief "La Grange" jam.
Jesus Just Left Chicago - Machine Gun Trey in combat action in the latter half of this jam.
Show Notes:
Trey dedicated the Divided Sky opener to "the spirit of the pig." Trey briefly teased TMWSIY before Antelope. This YEM featured the infamous "Poop Vocal Jam," followed by a set-stopping keg run. Mike's Song included a tease of the HBO theme song. Sanity was the fast version and dedicated to Eric Larson. 'A' Train featured "Paul," an unknown audience member, on saxophone and included a Dixie tease from Trey. During Contact, Trey wished the crowd "Merry Christmas" several times, quoted Blue Bayou (with slightly altered lyrics) in a falsetto voice and teased Auld Lang Syne at the end of the song. This show featured the first known Phish performance of Funky (Breakdown). Funky (Breakdown) and Price of Love featured guest appearances by Ninja Mike (vocals) and Magoo (guitar). Fish intermittently played trombone and vacuum during the latter. Melt featured a Fish drum solo. 2024.05.28 07:08 ferventmellow Jazz instrumentalists turned singer-songwriters?

Hey all. I’ve been studying jazz as an instrumentalist/soloist for sometime. But In the last few years I’ve felt called to songwriting and I’m fairly intimidated by it, to my surprise.
To alleviate some of the nerves I have toward this new venture, I’ve found it really helpful to read about others who’ve done what I’m trying to do.
So, I’m curious. - aside from maybe Chet Baker, George Benson, Norah Jones, or Esperanza Spalding - who are some other dedicated jazz players that eventually made their way into singing-songwriting? I’d love to find more.

2024.05.27 15:53 Ok_Progress5565 Sugar addiction increases sexual drive

High sexual drive is one of the pathways that leads to homosexuality according to the diet-stress-diathesis model of homosexuality. While a normal calorie diet is needed to be sexually active, chronic consumption of high glycemic index foods, like sugar, may send sexuality into overdrive.
Sugar acts on the reward circuit of the brain similarly to psychoactive substances (drugs) and sex. It has been proposed to be considered a drug with similarities to stimulant substances as well as opiates. It releases dopamine in the brain upon consumption. Sugar use has been found to cross-sensitize with alcohol, amphetamine and cocaine use. Children who consume a lot of sugar are more prone to consume alcohol as adults. Alcoholics prefer drinks with the highest concentration of sugar.
Psychoactive drugs increase sexual drive and in the laboratory cause rats to become homosexual. Sugar (similarly to psychoactive substances) may increase sexual drive several hours after its consumption. Jones et al. have done a study on sugar with healthy children aged from eight to 16. Children had a twofold increase of epinephrine (adrenaline) compared to adults several hours after sugar consumption on an empty stomach. Increased epinephrine levels cause increased physiological arousal and individuals in an increased physiological arousal may misattribute the arousal to sexual feelings toward the person present.
Studies show that the stimulating effect of dopaminergic drugs on sexual arousal is dependent on testosterone, hence the effect of sugar on sexual drive may begin with adrenarche (from 6 to 10 year old), when there is an increase of production of androgens by the adrenal glands. This is the age when many children report first having sexual attractions. Even if sugar directly does not cause abnormally high sexual drive, through years of consumption it cross-sensitizes to alcohol and drug use, which have a more pronounced effect on sexual drive. There is also another dietary pathway to high sexual drive: food intolerances/allergy like reactions to proteins. This pathway was elaborated in a previous post.

2024.05.25 18:43 Artistic-Hunter-6038 [TOMT] [online game]

In 2011/2012 era I played this online game with a similar concept to moshi monsters/ club penguin/ poptropica.
It was definitely “girl coded” with lots of focus on hair, makeup, and outfits.
The biggest thing I remember is that the hairstyles were flat at the top.
Does anyone know the name???

2024.05.25 16:17 Udzu 100 UF series. How many have you read?

Inspired by someone claiming to have read "almost all" UF series, I decided to try and gather the "top" 100 UF series from GoodReads, for some arbitrary definition of top. 2024.05.25 08:25 Localvcfdxc Watch Jon Jones choke out Lyoto Machida in his second UFC title defense

Take a look back at Jon Jones' second light heavyweight title defense against former titleholder Lyoto Machida.
In 2011, Jon Jones won the light heavyweight title and defended it twice. He had captured the title in March of that year by stopping Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and defended it against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson six months later in September. In December, he was paired against former champion Lyoto Machida.
The event took place at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Jones defeated Machida late in the second round via guillotine choke.

2024.05.25 04:21 Mr_Password_Username AVGN Ranking Part 3

PART 2
A tier
These episodes make me go "damn that's quite the enjoyable internet video" also I'm short on time (HA) so we're gonna do this turbo turds style.
  1. Indiana Jones Trilogy (E48, 2008)
The reason why I'm so harsh on the 2023 sequel episode is that this one came out 15 years before and is 15 times better.
  1. X-Men (E69, 2009)
Do I have to explain why a standard good episode from the golden years is good? I'm not a scientist after all.
  1. Game Glitches (E92, 2010)
I'm so glad they didn't have the glitch gremlin throughout the entire episode otherwise he wouldn't gotten really fucking annoying, and also the nerd's glitch showcases are the best part anyway.
  1. Pepsiman (E168, 2019)
To quote James's more... enthusiastic fans, "this feels just like a classic nerd episode!" The review is good, both the TV game guy and pepsiman are quite funny, I know I ragged on the poorly lit ending before but honestly who cares, it's not like I'm gonna be talking about the other episode that parodies that terminat- oh fuck this you get the idea.
88-87. Terminator 1 and 2 (E70-71, 2009)
Wow look it's the punchline to what I said there now. More great golden age stuff, nothing much else. I'm a zoomer who's never seen the terminator so... I'm stupid.
  1. Godzilla (E77, 2009)
Another classic one, ya get the idea.
Man I should watch that godzillathon James did back in 08, I should actually watch all of monster madness and rank it, I'm sure that'll go over well, especially if I give up towards the end and hire a plagiarist like I'm gonna do now, I'll let newt take it from here.
  1. The Wizard of Oz (E43, 2008)
Another classic one, ya get the idea resulting in destructive results.
Man I should watch that godzillathon James did back in 08, I should actually watch all of monster madness and rank it, I'm sure that'll go over well, especially if I give up towards the end and hire a plagiarist like I'm gonna do now, I'll let newt take it from here.
Oh god, somebody fucked up. Ok I'll fire him. Anyway this is another great one but the lion is probably too manic for some, I don't mind though.
  1. Superman (E50, 2008)
The funniest thing in this pretty funny episode is "stocccckkkks???" and I don't even know why.
83-82. An Angry Nerd Christmas Carol (E38-39, 2007)
I like me some holiday specials, especially a Christmas Carol parody where the parody doesn't actually start until part 2.
  1. The Immortal (E173, 2019)
Oh boy a segment with actual substance, because we're in some more unpopular opinions. I honestly really like this episode, I get why others don't, it's a gimmick episode after all. To me the strength is in the writing, the use of old timey English really stands out to me, I love the set too and they barely used green screen at all until the end. Even if you don't like this one you can at least respect its ambition right? Maybe not I don't know you.
80-79. Wish List (E116-117, 2013)
I was drawn to this episode as a kid because the nerd reviews sonic games, and yet he barely played any of them for more than 3 minutes. But I still like this one a lot, the look at the wish books are a lot of fun and there's some good reviews here too.
  1. Virtual Boy (E42, 2008)
Every time I see the bonus clip of James pulling the taped virtual boy off his head it hurts me mainly because I have a lot of hair and I can imagine taking that off and how painful that must be.
But yeah anyway good console review, certainly a solid addition to James's 500 film catalog.
  1. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (E93, 2010)
I think at one point I called this episode "Mike's passion project" because he played a lot of the game and wrote a pretty substantial review for the time, I was wrong though mike's passion project was clearly Elmo in Grouchland, sorry for that bad take.
  1. Street Fighter 2010 (E85, 2010)
Great episode but the random diversions into other street fighter stuff is really what makes this one, I would've have liked it as much otherwise.
  1. Bible Games 2 (E62, 2008)
One day we'll find out why this episode is in HD, if you can dig deep enough for the answer then congratulations you're more autistic than me, or James for that matter. Bible Games 1 is still better.
  1. Back to the Future Re-Revisited (E94, 2010)
Since this episode redid good episodes and made them even better, maybe he should do the same for the bad ones, but given current avgn he'll probably just make it worse.
  1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (E13, 2006)
A Halloween classic for me personally but I prefer its prequel.
  1. Atari Porn (E32, 2007)
Man what a funny, classic episode, let's hope they don't make any terrible edits of it, that would just be horrible.
  1. Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (E118, 2014)
Man that fake big rigs commercial was funny, let's hope they don't bring him back, that would ruin the joke, they better not name a band after him either.
  1. Commodore 64 (E199, 2021)
To me, this is one of 2 true gems of the screenwave era, 2 out of 68 episodes actually being great isn't the worst right? it could've been 0 after all. This episode has some funny reviews, a cool nostalgic tone like the old ones, some actual passion for once, if only every screenwave era episode could be this good.
  1. Star Wars Games (E99, 2011)
That beer droid has some impressive practical effects and stop motion, if this was made today they would get some screenwave intern to do some awful animation, different times.
  1. Fester's Quest (E34, 2007)
Look at all that effort, James went ahead and dressed as the entire Adams family, that wouldn't happen now. I love that most of the A tier writings are just me bitching instead of being positive.
67-65. Ghostbusters (E21-23, 2007)
Classic episodes but personally I only really rewatch part 1, no review, I refuse.
  1. The Power Glove (E14, 2006)
I think at one point this was the most popular episode in terms of views, I'd say it's deserved, another classic for the pile.
  1. Chronologically Confused About Sequel Titles (E15, 2006)
Remember when James could make a topic as boring as sequel titles and make it entertaining through fun writing alone?
  1. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (E112, 2013)
The ending rant is peak. Also meme zoomers such as myself will rejoice as this episode is the source of the "hey, wanna listen to some tunes" meme from like 2019.
  1. Game Boy Accessories (E147, 2017)
The fact that I find "I WANNA BE SEDATED BY THE GAME BOY" funny is evidence that I'm not even a real human.
  1. Nintendo Power (E33, 2007)
I love the chill atmosphere of this one and all, but for some reason the clip of the nerd saying "wow what an asshole" is the thing that sticks with me when remembering this episode.
59-57. CD-i (E59-61, 2008)
Great console review. James blew $700 on cdi stuff but couldn't afford to do anything cool for the 200th and 20th anniversary episodes.
  1. Schwarzenegger Games (E107, 2012)
Sort of a soft reboot of the series, and a real good one. Not much to it just solid reviews and jokes.
  1. Little Red Hood (E83, 2009)
Yet another really funny golden age episode, thank you for your reading this far.
54-53. Atari Jaguar (E65-66, 2009)
Man what a great set of episodes I hope they don't bring back that where did you learn to fly thing ever again.
  1. Spawn Games (E174, 2019)
This episode has no right being as solid as it is. Really I think it has everything; good reviews, good jokes, a funny guest character played by crustin justin, faithful to the source material. This is the best screenwave episode in my opinion but it seems most have forgotten about it, I recommend rewatching it, I think it holds up well and I don't even know shit about spawn.
51-40. 12 Days of Shitsmas (E122-133, 2014)
This is the true avgn movie, it's an hour of actually entertaining reviews, the standout parts here are with Porky's, the hyperscan and the absolute masterpiece that is crazybus.
  1. Sega 32X (E26, 2007)
Every time I hear the nerd say "we live in the year 2007" I age rapidly. I like this one a lot more than the sega CD episode, it's funnier... yeah that's it it's just funnier.
  1. Halloween (E36, 2007)
"I like this one even more than the last [Texas Chainsaw Massacre], the review is funnier, the storyline is enjoyable and the Michael Myers jumpscare actually got me the first time I saw it. Also those kids are in their 20s now I think, time is crazy. Oh and this line is one of my favourites:
"How about Frankenstein's monster?"
"It's alive! It's alive! How about It's ass! It's ASSSS!"

I laugh at the dumbest shit.
Yeah I still laugh at that, I have what my generation calls "brainrot".
  1. R.O.B. the Robot (E100, 2011)
This is James's favourite episode, I still like it a lot but I think there's episodes that do what this one does better, like nes accessories for the review part, mario 3 for the fight at the end, how the nerd stole xmas for the ending, and also mega man for the whole nerd giving up thing. We'll talk about those in a bit.
  1. Dark Castle (E105, 2011)
Just a really funny and solid episode. I need to sleep it's 4am.
S tier
These are my absolute favourite episodes, most of these are considered the best by many, others, like my number 1 favourite, are not.
  1. Berenatain Bears (E142, 2016)
Yeah maybe it's a little contrived towards the end, but I think this is one of the best of the "conspiracy episodes". There's some alright if light reviews here too but the main attraction here is the rabbit hole and I love that it starts off simple with the nerd saying "I think they made a typo" as a throwaway line only for it to go deeper and deeper.
  1. How the Nerd Stole Christmas (E97, 2011)
Yep another gimmick episode, but a really fun one. The rhyming is well done, mike's art is at its best, the song parody is great. I know some people don't like this one or any gimmick episode, I don't have a counter argument to that you're entitled to your opinion.
  1. Swordquest (E88, 2010)
It's not a nerd episode really, but I don't care it's great. I said before that I really like the pre-nes gaming history videos and this one is amongst the best, shame they don't do them at all anymore. The story is fascinating and the nerd tells it in a great way, but like the last one it's not really for everyone.
  1. Ninja Gaiden (E87, 2010)
One of the best guest episodes, the ninja is funny, the tributes to karate kid and other movies are great, we got a good review here too, everything checks out.
  1. Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout (E31, 2007)
Listen, when you're 12, the visual of a man shitting all over Bugs Bunny's face while he goes "nyahhh oh shit oh shit nyahhh" is the funniest shit ever. This is arguably the most iconic episode of the series and while I still love it, I do think it's funniest on its first viewing when you're not expecting it, still it's filled with great moments, how about bugs bunny's birthday BEATING!?
  1. Superman 64 (E51, 2008)
The fact that this is in S tier while the sequel no one asked for is in F tier is just funny to me, they're like night and day in terms of quality, this one is super well paced, really funny, shows the problems with the game efficiently and all in like half the length, if you can compare any 2 episodes to show the dip in quality this series had, I think this episode and it's sequel shows it best.
  1. Friday the 13th (E12, 2006)
A Halloween classic for me personally, I don't know why this one resonates with me so much, maybe it's because of how weirdly quaint it is? Something about it is just nostalgic in how basic it is but still having some well done sketches, the episode is also one of the funniest of the first season with all the sarcastic praise.
28-27. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (E18-19)
The only episode to not be about video games, but it still manages to be one of my favourites. What I love about this one is the passion, like you can tell James wanted to rip into this movie like this ever since he saw it as a kid, and it shows with some great writing and analysis of the turtles movies. And of course the tape destruction at the end is one of the all time classic scenes.
  1. NES Accessories (E47, 2008)
The most viewed episode on the YouTube channel, and it's deserved, could you imagine if like pac man 2 or something was the most viewed episode? that'd be stupid. Anyway this one's a classic, there's not too much to say about it, rolling rock on the roll n rocker, there that's something.
  1. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (E144, 2017)
Alright I'm biased because this was the first new episode I remember coming out back in 2017, yeah I was just in time to witness the last like 3-4 pre-screenwave episodes. That aside I still think this is an excellent episode, multiple great reviews, some great jokes, actual nerd rage that feels like the older seasons, it's everything I want in an avgn episode. Also spoilers this is the most recent episode in S tier and it's over 7 years old now, yikes.
  1. The Wizard and Super Mario Bros. 3 (E46, 2008)
This is one case where I actually prefer the later cut down versions, the wizard review is honestly kinda boring and not needed. But the rest of it... hell yeah, super funny, super memorable, a great fight scene at the end. One of the all time classics.
  1. Ikari Warriors (E110, 2013)
The third of the "Kyle trilogy", this one isn't as good as the other 2 but still excellent, the main thing that makes their episodes are the chemistry between the two, it's always entertaining and brings out the best in both of them.
  1. Pong Consoles (E89, 2010)
I think this or tiger games was first episode I ever saw, and I was won over fast. Another great pre-nes episode with so much enjoyable moments, "did pong consoles have a deal with the battery companies to sell more fucking batteries!?"
21-19. Silver Surfer, Transformers & Dick Tracy (E27, 72 & 56 2007-09)
It may be odd to group these 3 together, but I think they all have the same qualities. In terms of traditional nerd episodes (reviewing 1 or 2 bad nes games with little sketches) these are the absolute best, the writing, the reviews and the pure raw anger in these are unmatched. There are too many amazing moments to list all of them, such as "I can't touch that red pot!?!?" in silver surfer, "oh, it's mechagodzilla, of course I should have known" in transformers and the "one guy? no continues" rant at the end of dick tracy.
  1. Atari 5200 (E20, 2007)
Probably the most relatable episode if you're someone like me with a big crt TV with consoles, there was a time when James could make a great game review and not even play a single game in it, just great visual humour and relatable frustration.
  1. Plumbers Don't Wear Ties (E74, 2009)
Yet another all time classic, this is one that speaks for itself with a thousand memorable moments, "take your damn clothes off!".
16-13. Castlevania Retrospective (E79-82)
Let's just forget about the recent Castlevania episode and remember how amazing these ones are, this is such a sweet, passionate and funny look at a series James really cared about. I know this is a lot of people's favourite and yeah I can see why it's popular.
  1. Tiger Electronic Games (E113, 2013)
Ok we've basically entered the top 10 now if you condense 2 parters into 1. This was another one of the first episodes I saw and another one that's hard to even talk about how great it is, the rants are some of the best, the review is entertaining and covers a lot of stuff, basically what I've said a thousand times already
  1. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Revisited (E95, 2010)
One of the best written episodes in my opinion, so many great lines, jokes, everything. The 2023 attempt at a follow-up only wishes it could be as great as this.
  1. Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle (E75, 2009)
'And here we have another one of my favourite episodes. The fight choreography is actually really good, especially for 2009 internet videos. The jokes and references to classic looney tunes are a great touch too, oh and Kyle's here let's fuckin gooo. It's weird that birthday blowout used to be my favourite episode when this one in retrospect is so much better. Watching this one also reminded me how important the nerd room is to the series, having that one room with distinct areas like the nes shelf, commodore desk, the old tv with the pong consoles and the main console setup really helps make the series feel more memorable than other review shows, like you're in the nerd room with the nerd as lame as that sounds. Also the bugs woody woodpecker hybrid thing is fucking terrifying."
Oh I forgot to mention that I said in 2022 that I'm glad they didn't bring back bugs bunny after the mega man episode, well they didn't, that Garfield episode is just a dream, you're in a coma buddy.
  1. Battletoads (E55, 2008)
The second Kyle episode and an absolute classic. I think this one resonates with us so much because of how much it captures frustrating 2 player experiences in games, constantly arguing and failing to progress in anything. Not much else to say as it's one everyone remembers.
8-7. Double Vision (E44-45, 2008)
Yay more pre-nes shit! Kyle's double vision cover is great, the reviews are funny, it's quite informative on the consoles, it's pretty much a perfect nerd episode.
  1. Atari Sports (E109, 2012)
I only found out recently that a lot of people don't like this episode, well personally for me I think it's one of the funniest of the series. The football rant, the comparisons of the graphics to other things, the nerd's reactions to the games, it all cracks me up every time.
  1. Bible Games (E17, 2006)
Like Friday the 13th I don't know exactly why this one resonates with me so much, but I think it's the quaint nostalgic tone it has, it's one I watch every Christmas and it always brings me back. I'm probably nostalgia biased here but the rest of the episode is still fantastic with some great jokes and reviews, just with a little calmer tone.
  1. Spiderman (E24, 2007)
Something about this video just makes it peak comedy to me, I think it's because it's 2 bros playing games very casually but one happens to be dressed as Spiderman. This one scores so high for me because it contains one of the funniest exchanges I've ever heard:
"That's the super bomb!" "The super bomb?" "The super bomb!" "Well there's bombs in the game, why can't that bomb look like a bomb?" "It's fucking Spiderman!"
The way he sorta interrupts the nerd and says it with such enthusiasm just kills me each time. All time classic here, nothing but good memories.
3-2. Batman (E52-53, 2008)
Ok, so in my opinion, this is the best avgn episode of all time. It has everything, funny reviews, great rants with the legendary batman forever controls rant, some great sketches with mike's funniest character performance of them all. Everything in this episode is the nerd at his absolute peak and I can rewatch it a million times. So even though I think this is the best episode, it's not my personal favourite, that happens to be... yeah you guessed it I think:
  1. Mega Man Games (E139, 2016)
Now... let me be clear, this is not the best avgn episode, probably not even top 10 if we're talking "objective quality". But it is my favourite and I'll do my best to explain why.
I think this is the most important episode of the entire series from a certain perspective. The whole theme of the nerd giving up and wanting to prevent the past decade of avgn I think is a reflection of James's own thoughts after doing the show for a decade, I mean he barely plays video games, he wanted to make short films but instead he got popular being a guy who yells at nes games and then pretends to dump his ass on them, I'm not saying I think he regrets avgn being popular but I think he would've preferred if he got recognition doing short horror movies or stuff like board games and monster madness, but the nerd will always more popular than any of those.
The scene of the nerd talking to his 2004 self is my favourite in the entire series as he tries to convince him to quit while he's ahead instead of risking running this endeavour into the ground using the oversaturation of mega man as an allegory, but eventually the 2016 nerd learns that he should continue for the time being, but he has to relearn why he does all this in the first place that being the fans while finding ways to be passionate about doing it himself, because if he wasn't passionate, the videos would be much worse, which sadly is what happened in the years after this episode.
Despite the whole themes of finding purpose again in what people want you to do, if this was the last episode, I would've been satisfied.
This review has been sappy enough now, look I know this is not a popular choice, the reviews in this one aren't even that great, it's not the funniest episode, but for the significance of its story and it's sweet reflection of pre-bimmy James's own burnout and overcoming of it, it'll always be my personal favourite episode, it's pretty much a short film and what the avgn movie should've been, instead of James circlejerking himself he could've used the nerd for an allegory of his own struggles as a creator like he does here.
Conclusion
Ok I'm very tired so I'll try and keep this all brief.
20 years man, I know those past few haven't been all too great to put it lightly but I think it's still a very impressive run for such a niche series with a dumb sounding premise.
This is where people say "here's to 20 more!" but... please no. 2024 has been so far the worst year for avgn yet, I mean the 2 most recent episodes I consider the worst ones so far, if this is the quality of avgn from here on then I think I speak for all of us when I say I think it's time for James to consider throwing in the towel for the nerd.
I know that sounds harsh but, how long can he do this for? how long can you beat the "80s gamer nostalgia" shtick until it's been drained of everything it's worth? Now, I know it's a job for him so if it keeps him and his family afloat then that's all that really matters. I mean this in an integrity sorta way, what once was a fun project for James and his friends and fans is now just a paycheck for him, and that's just kinda sad for everyone else, except there are people who eat this shit up and acts like it saved their life so... good for them I guess?
Honestly I think that's all I want to say, I'm so exhausted. Happy 20 years I don't know how to end this I just want to sleep now.

2024.05.25 04:05 Mr_Password_Username 20 Years of AVGN: My personal long ass ranking (PART 1)

(Spilt into parts because Reddit had a stroke trying to upload the whole thing at once, sorry to the mods if it looks like spam)
also currently fixing the broken formatting, that was on me sorry
2 Years ago, I did a ranking and retrospective on every avgn episode at that time, now that the show (I think) turned 20 today (at least in my time zone) it's time for a redo. That old ranking was very rough and filled with bad takes (though this new one has a lot too) but if you want to read it then here and here's my old season 16 review.
This one is a little different this time, it's a lot more streamlined in format so it's less time wasting for both you and me hopefully.
One last thing, if you see reviews in quotes it means it's taken from my original reviews because in those cases I feel I actually nailed it the first time, which is not the case for many of the other reviews, I do still try to add something new to the quoted reviews though so... woo.
Anyway enough stalling, let's start. I'll save the actual anniversary discussion until the end.
F tier
These episodes make me want to have a buffalo do something to my ear I think.
215: My Horse Prince (E214, 2024)
"personally I don't mind this if it's only done once like here but if the nerd starts doing more and more modern mobile shovelware garbage like this, it might be a problem" - Me in 2022, yikes...
This episode is truly a sight to behold, never did anyone expect them to top 200 as the ultimate shit king, but here we are.
Everything about this episode is the worst; the writing, the comedy, the review, the choice of game. I was really hoping for this to be so bad it's good but it's just sad, it's maybe the saddest video I think I've ever seen, like I wonder if I went back in time and showed my young self this episode, how would he react to seeing his favourite youtuber making cringeworthy borderline reaction video tier shit to some mobile game? This is (I think) the most disliked avgn episode on YouTube and it deserves every dislike it got, just... what were they thinking?
214: What Is the Best Castlevania? (E215, 2024)
Yes, somehow 200 isn't even the second worst in my eyes.
I already wasn't a fan of the 10th anniversary episode desert bus but this is a whole new level of laziness. Many have theorised that this episode was rushed out after the poor reception of the horse prince episode both in views and viewers, and given that it came out on the 8th while the anniversary is on the 25th I think I believe it.
There's no camera shots of the nerd, apparently it's to "pay tribute to the first episode" yeah right, it's not a nerd episode, it's a boring forgettable review of rondo of blood and a pointless comparison of Castlevania 4.
I think James has a fetish for whipping 8 ways, like if Castlevania 4 is his favourite then that's fine I mean I never played the series so don't listen to me but I swear every other minute he brings up whipping 8 ways as the be all end all of a castlevania game's quality, again opinions are opinions but even besides that this video is a lazy waste of time and a complete joke of an anniversary special.
213: AVGN 200: Every LJN Game (E200, 2021)
Ah yes, my original pick for worst episode, if only I knew how worse it would get.
There's just so much wrong here, of course the most infamous thing about this episode is that 20% of it just a clip show of past LJN reviews, but on top of that the new reviews are so boring that nobody remembers anything about them other than surfin' nerd (and not for good reason), almost all the games the nerd reviews are just game boy and snes versions of games he's already done or games that clearly aren't that bad so he has to stretch for material. This is what happens when you force yourself to review a list of things that you wouldn't have reviewed otherwise, you end up having to talk about things that have nothing to say about them... wait isn't that what I'm doing now? fuck.
Oh and I didn't forget the terrible skit segments with the nerd sliding down the LJN rainbow in the most embarrassing way possible. While it's no longer the worst episode in my eyes it's still a worthless waste of time with some of the series's worst attempts at comedy. These reviews so far have already been way longer than I originally thought, shit.
212: Shrek: Fairy Tale Freakdown (E188, 2021)
This is one that I think I hit the nail on the head the first time so I'll let past me do the talking, is it hypocritical to criticise 200 for recycling reviews only for me to do it myself? Yes.
"Now this, is probably the most baffling episode of the entire series. So we begin this "game review" with a long 5 minute tangit where the nerd tries to watch shrek but all of his options fail and it goes on forever, what other episode has ever done something like this where the nerd stalls this long about a movie he hasn't seen in a while?
And then the game review finally starts and it's a game boy color game with barely anything to it. There were way better choices for shrek games, like the weird ass xbox game that has almost nothing to do with shrek, oh wait an xbox game could take a while to beat while a gbc game could be beaten in like 15 minutes yeah fuck putting effort into the game reviews now.
Then the nerd gets mad and says how he hates shrek and thinks it's overrated, by the way I've never heard James talk about shrek outside this episode so I don't know if this is actually true.
Because of him not liking shrek he gets captured by a shrek cult led by Grant Duffin, the guy who hosts shrekfest and shrek retold (where about 200 people came together to remake shrek, oh and did I mention Justin was a producer on shrek retold? I wonder if there's any connection hmmm…) and to be fair he's easily the best thing in this episode, him saying "this is the part where you get sacrificed" instead of "this is the part where you run away" actually got a laugh out of me)
So anyway the nerd gets burned in a shrek statue which is of course a parody of The Wicker Man and I shit you not it's worse than the Nicholas Cage version. James' acting in the burning statue is so bad and maybe the worst of the whole series. This episode is yet another "weird but not in a funny way" and is a bizarre nonsensical mess that fails as a game review and a parody, what else can I say but, there goes the onion…"
By the way on this rewatch I tried to look at it from the perspective of a comedy sketch and not a game review and even then it's terrible, might as well be a Smosh skit but without that early YouTube charm to it.
211: Sega Game Gear VHS Tapes (E193, 2021)
The ending of this episode commits the comedy sin of "parodying an annoying thing by making it even more annoying" to be honest I don't find those game gear VHS tapes annoying at all but the nerd with the wig and the voice at the end irritates me so much. And like I said before this episode had potential behind it, there's so much weird video game promotional tapes from the 90s and for some reason they choose this boring one that nobody even remembers and the nerd for most of this episode sounds more bored than the viewers watching.
210: Ecco the Dolphin (E183, 2020)
I was going to use my original review but looking at it now, it's too "ranty" for my taste if that makes any sense. Anyway yeah this episode is shit, it's unfunny, it's forgettable, it's gimmicky with that unnecessary underwater shot, they barely make any progress in the game completely ignoring the insane endgame, the anger feels forced. Just a textbook bad screenwave era episode.
209: The Simpsons: Bartman Meets Radioactive Man (E187, 2020)
This episode might have the most "why?" decisions out of any episode; why did they choose a nothing nes game instead of a more interesting game like Simpsons wrestling, skateboarding, barts nightmare, itchy and scratchy game etc.? why did they waste animation a sponsor that most viewers skip? why did they waste Brock Baker's talent by having him read the sponsor and nothing else? why is this a Christmas episode? why did they do that cow shitting part at the end? As a Simpsons fan, this episode does nothing for me and as an avgn episode, it's still bad.
208: A Boy and His Blob (E210, 2023)
Do you remember anything about this episode? yeah me neither.
207: Superman 64 Returns!! (E169, 2019)
"This episode made me wonder who the fuck asked for a sequel to the superman 64 episode? There really isn't much material to the game that wasn't shown in the original episode because this one is unfunny and uninteresting. Also why did they bring back the "where did you learn to fly?" bitch? It's like when The Simpsons or Family Guy brings back a joke from an old episode thinking it will be as fresh and funny as it was before, but it's not, it's just lazy and again, unfunny"
I wish I mentioned just how annoying the "where did you learn to fly" thing is, it wasn't even that funny in the Jaguar episode so I have no idea why they thought repeating it over and over again would be a good idea.
206: The Goonies 1 & 2 (E213, 2024) I would've been kinder to this episode but the nerd constantly saying "this is Goonies 2" got so annoying that it found a place in the bottom 10. And yes that means all season 18 episodes so far are in the bottom 10, it goes without saying that I think it's the worst season yet, yeah I'd take season 15 over it.
205: Greendog: The Beached Surfer Dude! (E197, 2021)
More pointless gimmick stuff with burning the game in lava, more forced anger, more boredom. nothing else to say.
204: Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (E195, 2021)
There's nothing wrong with an episode being short, but there's avgn episodes from 2006 with more substance than this. There's actually nothing here, it's an empty shell of an episode, there's no jokes, the review is the bare minimum effort possible to pass as a video. I think they shat out filler episodes like this so they could end the year on the 200th, so these 190s episodes are just pointless quota-meeting junk.
203: Super and Virtual Hydlide (E161, 2018)
The only funny thing in this episode is the nerd saying "asssss" for the 400th time. I really don't have anything to say here, did anyone ask for more Hydlide games? maybe I don't know but I hope whoever asked for it is happy with this, because I'm not.
202: E.T. (E120, 2014)
I didn't bother rewatching the movie for this because it's the avgn movie, but in short it's one of the worst movies that I have ever seen and the nadir of the series if I counted it in the ranking, there's a lot of reviews of it out there that tear into it better than I can so I'll leave it at that. The actual E.T. review is still a boring waste of time besides the movie, 8 years of buildup for this?
201: Bad Final Fight Games (E181, 2020)
I like how James/screenwave just gave up towards the end of this episode and threw it to matt mcmuscles to finish it for them. Just like how I'm gonna give up talking about this episode that nobody remembers.
200: Darkman (E189, 2021)
I still will never get over that they were too lazy to film a ball flinging across the room so they just had a png of the ball flying across, genius.
199: Corpse Killer (E192, 2021)
This episode is a copse and is a killer of my brain cells because there's nothing to say about it.
198: Carmageddon 64 (E194, 2021)
"Lame, forgettable… y'know I think I've said those words like 20 times each at this point. The main thing here is that Mr. Rigs seems to have got some body morph issues or something he looks like shit, how did they let this happen? probably because James was too lazy to actually dress up as him and instead only did the head which was edited on a pre-existing image of his body, I think that's how they did it. Professional curator of film at his finest folks."
Please never bring Mr. Rigs back again.
197: Earthworm Jim Trilogy (E208, 2023)
This episode was almost passable at the start, then they ruined it with the "Brain!" thing in the Earthworm Jim 3 review, you can tell they were desperately trying to make that into a meme but it's been over a year now and no one remembers it.
196: Hudson Hawk (E204, 2022)
Did you ever want to hear shit pickle's origin story? Do you like boring reviews on obscure NES games? Do you like clips of the movie being used for comedy for like the 4th time in the series? I didn't think so.
195: Chronologically Confused about Kingdom Hearts (E165, 2019)
Here's an episode I was too generous on the first time. I mean yeah it's a fine summery of kingdom hearts as far as I know, but it's not a nerd episode but it's not entertaining on top of that, it was made just to capitalise on kingdom hearts 3's release, now that it served it's purpose there's no reason to go back to it, there's probably way better videos on the same subject. Do you think James ever actually played kingdom hearts after saying he was "interested" in it in this video? no.
194: Jurassic Park: Trespasser (E172, 2019)
Even as a kid I remember not liking this one at all. It's way too long, the Seamus Blackley interview goes on forever, the live action segments should be funny but they're not, the review is boring and forgettable. I said this before but the only funny thing here is the final boss killing himself.
193: Dennis the Menace (E179, 2020)
"The original thumbnail looked like it had a giant cock in it lol. I love how the nerd complains how hard the game is while not releasing that the difficulty in the settings says hard, now to be fair it really shouldn't have been set to hard by default and the game probably still sucks even on easy but that was the unintentionally funniest part about the episode, that and the cock thumbnail unfortunately makes me only laugh at the episode and not with it."
I remember this being one of those COVID era episodes that I originally excused being bad because of the circumstances of the time, but COVID or not this episode would've probably turned out the same way.
192: The Legend of Kage (E185, 2020)
If I didn't include this episode not a single person would say "you forgot the legend of Kage!". Like, do you even remember this episode? Does anyone?
191: Garfield (E206, 2022)
Would've probably been in D tier if it wasn't for bugs bunny going "nyeahhhh" for like 30 seconds, what is it with current era avgn and being really annoying for no reason?
190: Beating Jekyll and Hyde (E210, 2023)
Again, would've been D tier if it wasn't for the broken audio, I know it's not the end of the world but this is 19 years into avgn and they fucked up what 2006 episodes did right. Other than that it's an uninspired exorcist parody which was done better in mario 3 and a review of a game that was done infinitely better by the nerd back in 2010.
D tier
These are episodes that I don't find much to enjoy in them but are not terrible and maybe have a redeeming quality or two.
189: Day Dreamin' Davey (E98, 2011)
Uh oh. This is the first of a few unpopular opinion reviews. I'll try to convey my opinions on this episode better this time, I think this is the weakest episode of the original 100, and when I said that a lot of people were shocked because they really liked it, and honestly that surprised me, I thought that I had the popular opinion but I was wrong.
What I dislike about this episode is the writing, in the second half of the review the nerd basically starts doing a walkthrough of the game instead, as in he says stuff like "you go here, you do this, you fight this boss, you go here, you collect this" etc. Now someone actually pointed out that this episode is similar to the very early episodes, which I guess explains why many like it but as for me, I never liked this one, even as a kid I found it boring and always dreaded it on a series rewatch, this episode really should've been cut down shorter, instead it meanders about kinda like the game itself. But hey, the decapitated teacher head joke spares it from being F tier in my eyes.
188: The Town with No Name (E163, 2018)
Don't you just love the nerd freaking out over an obvious joke game? I wish I had more to say about this one but... I don't. Well the console destruction at the end was kinda cool, again the only reason why this one was spared from F tier.
187: 3DO Interactive Multiplayer (E191, 2021)
Very, very mediocre. This one does have more substance to it then other season 15 episodes but said substance is still bland and forgettable as hell. I think the discussion about the 3DO in the plumbers dont wear ties episode was enough, we didn't need a full episode, at least not one as dull as this.
186: Kid Kool (E103, 2011)
"The only amusing thing about this episode is this line: "He needs 7 different herbs to cure him, I bet the game designers were smoking 7 different herbs".
Yeah this one isn't great. Weirdly enough It's a lot like the barbie demo review from the making of episode so I wonder if that was intentional to show the basic formula of a nerd episode that the making of established, but that's what the barbie review was for so why do this one like that too? Maybe that's not the case, maybe the nerd formula is just running dry (with it even including a very forced feeling simon's quest comparison).
Though this episode also has a sort of gimmick: the nerd gives names to the 7 problems with the game and calls it the 7 deadly sins, it's not very interesting. I mean the bin throw shot was at least something… I think. The jokes are weak, the review is short and the game is just not interesting. It feels like an episode from early 2006 that was put on the shelf for a couple of years. I'd put this one over day dreamin' davey but not by much."
Kid Kool? more like Mid Kool. This is the part where the reviewer apologies for making a bad pun but fuck it I'm not apologising.
185: Toxic Crusaders (E111, 2013)
Lloyd is sometimes funny and sometimes not, it's a weird recurring theme with guest episodes where the guests' comedy is a mixed bag. Would've been C tier but the shitting and barfing at the end is so gross that I usually leave before it happens, I don't usually mind gross out humour but this was too far even for me.
184: Mission Impossible (E182, 2020)
The Not Tom Cruise thing at the end is kinda amusing (emphasis on "kinda") but that's it, well the exploding playstation was a neat effect, I don't remember anything else about it.
183: Charlie's Angels (E153, 2017)
Would've put it in F tier had it not been for Tony (from some show) as Charlie, his delivery I actually think is pretty amusing (can't bring myself to call it funny though) and the best part of an otherwise dull episode. It's much better than his role as Aladdin in the deck enhancer episode, really hope I don't have to talk about that one soon.
182: Aladdin Deck Enhancer (E167, 2019)
Fuck. Well... let's hear it from past me:
"A really weird one. Tony (from hacfjajbdkdiud) is pretty annoying as aladdin and the cg dancing genie is just fucking weird, it's like something out of Chowder but not in any sort of funny way. I said like 8 times now that I really enjoy the hardware/accessory reviews but this one is kind of boring and not all that funny. Also there's the random cameos of a bunch of youtubers, some of them like the gaming historian I like but most of them I haven't even heard of. Pretty mediocre, which is a shame because I remember it being much better."
I think the YouTubers at the end are all members of screenwave's MCM and this was their way of signal boosting their clients, that's just a hunch though. Given the amount of "literally who" most of these YouTubers are I'd say it's probably the case.
181: Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsai (E154, 2017)
"Fun fact: James only made this episode because he wanted to point out jhizz in the star wars encyclopedia. Anyway this might be one of the most forgettable episodes of the whole series, I genuinely forgot about its existence. Now the actual episode is whatever, like some of the other ones here it's short so it's pretty harmless but still weak. Oh and I'm sure those special edition jokes will be just as fresh and original in 2017 as it was in 2004."
I actually have nothing to add to that. Congrats old me, you didn't fuck it up for once.
180: DOOM (E205, 2022)
I love me some wasted potential, not really in what the nerd didn't review here just in how he went about it. I really don't know why this episode is boring, I mean it's doom right so why does this one put me to sleep? I know a lot of people really hate the acapella at the start and the shit gun but honestly as lame as it is I don't find it cringeworthy myself. Just a mediocre Halloween episode.
179: Kid Icarus (E207, 2023)
Now this...this is peak mediocrity. I think this is the most slightly below average episode ever, like a 49/100 score. Nothing really wrong with it per say, it's just kinda boring, but also kinda watchable, would not recommend it to anyone. Oh wait yeah there's nerd farms, I choose not to remember that though.
178: Mortal Kombat Rip-Offs (E178, 2020)
"Pretty boring honestly. Even with all of these bad games the nerd seemed to have nothing to say about it and I've already forgotten the whole thing. Bleh."
I have trouble adding anything else to this, this episode gives me nothing to work with at all, like everytime I watch it I get a men in black style memory wipe and forget all of it.
177: McKids (E7, 2006)
Oh boy, another controversial take. I heard people say that this is one of their favourite episodes and I just can't agree. It's not horrible but I just find it pretty weak even for season 1 standards. It's not really funny, the nerds sounds bored while reading the script, it has that walkthrough style writing like in day dreamin davey but it's much shorter so it's more tolerable. But it does deserve credit for debuting the theme song, so points for that.
176: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (E1, 2004)
"For how important this episode is to the history of online game reviews, it's also clearly not the nerd at his best but at the same time it was made as a joke that wasn't supposed to lead to a series… Well anyway, joke or not I'm not too big on this episode. It does have some classic moments really only because it's the first episode but most of it is just low mic rambling about nitpicks in a game James actually likes, if I had to compare it to anything it would be the really early Simpsons shorts on the Tracey Ullman Show; Obviously I respect it for what it led to but I don't think I will ever watch it again."
This is like the 4th time I've done a Simpsons comparison, I think a better comparison would actually be the first south park episode; very rough, not very funny, was made for a very niche audience before the series blew up unexpectedly, would easily been seen as bad if it was anything but the first episode, but you kinda have to respect it for what it led to.
175: Wayne's World (E78, 2009)
In my opinion one of the more forgettable original run episodes. Not bad but just kinda there, and the overuse of movie clips sorta gets annoying while the version without clips is pretty boring. But hey I'm sure many of you like this one so good for you, not! ...is that how it goes? I never saw the movie.
174: Chronologically Confused About the Legend of Zelda Timeline (E40, 2008) "This was a previously unreleased episode made back in 2006, and honestly I see why. Yeah I wasn't feeling this one, it's not bad but the anger feels forced and it's a very forgettable early episode. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm not a big Zelda fan, but I've enjoyed many avgn episodes about franchises I'm not that into."
It's cool that we got to see this lost episode but personally I don't think we were missing much. That was 4 episodes in a row from the original 100, that's not gonna cause any controversy right?
173: Beetlejuice (E121, 2014)
It's a very meh Halloween special, I think this one's lesser quality stands out more in the 2012-2016 era, if this was in 2020 it would probably be seen as better. I think what sours this episode for me is the fact that the nerd acts like there's no good LJN games completely ignoring that he found a good one a few episodes earlier, if the review was funnier I wouldn't care about that but it's not.
172: Desert Bus (E119, 2014)
"I don't know how exactly to describe it but this episode to me feels kind of… "jumped the shark"-ish. I find this episode to honestly be pretty lame the way the nerd gets so mad at a joke game that wasn't even released. The only line I laughed at was "did Penn and Teller make this game? or did Andy Warhol rise from the grave?". Oh and the whole "I quit!" but then for some reason playing an improved hack of simon's quest brings him back just to have the 2nd lead up to the movie is pretty dumb but hey at least the movie actually came out afterwards this time."
Don't question why my favourite episode has 2 major things in common with this episode I put all way in D tier, just don't.
171: Resident Evil Survivor (E160, 2018)
I remember not liking this one as a kid and even 2 years ago on my original ranking. But honestly it's not as bad as I remember, the main highlight being the nerd in re1's cutscenes, the review itself is still pretty boring but again, not as boring as I remember.
170: Taito Legends (E186, 2020)
Imagine the Action 52 episode, but not as funny, or as memorable, basically just everything that episode is but worse. The only entertaining part is violence fight but you have to endure 30 minutes of mediocrity to get there, well actually not you just skip to it but I went ahead and watched the whole damn thing.
169: Countdown Vampires (E184, 2020)
It's... fine, it's another Halloween one, and another one that wasn't as bad as I remember, but still pretty bleh.
168: The Rocketeer (E196, 2021)
By season 15 review standers, holy shit they didn't fuck it up for once! but it's still mediocre, and there's that awful leprechaun so it still has that 2021 smell to it. But it's leagues above most of season 15 besides 3 episodes I'll get to later.
167: Indiana Jones: Crystal Skull + More (E209, 2023)
Hey remember when this one came out and people were like "wow a good episode?" and now a year later nobody even remembers it. Yeah ok it is actually competent compared to the other episodes of this new era, it actually feels like an avgn episode, but it's still kinda boring in my opinion and a far cry from the original Indiana Jones episode. But hey... it's a step in the right direction, only for them to turn around and take the wrong steps again, welp.
166: Final Fantasy 6 (E212, 2023)
For how long this episode is, nothing about it sticks in my mind. The best way I can describe it is that it's like hearing your friend talk in depth about how much they love something that you personally don't really care about, you sense that they're passionate, it's kind of sweet to hear them talk like this but you can't help but zone out because you're just not very interested. That might be a me thing because I'm not a final fantasy person but yeah this one doesn't do anything for me at all and it seems most are in agreement, I think. Harmless, but weak.
165: Treasure Master (E148, 2017)
For the screenwave crew's first attempt to emulate avgn writing, I think they did a... competent job. I get keeping it simple for the first episode with a new staff but it doesn't prevent it from being easily forgotten.
