Hello there! Come come, have a seat by the fire.
When was the last time you sat by a fire anyway? Last time I did was about a year ago when I helped a friend chop up an old shelf and we burnt it for fun in their fire pit.
But there really is something specific about sitting by a campfire in the right situation. As a big fan of the STALKER and Metro game series, sitting by a fire after a long and harrowing day can be something so sobering and relaxing. So tell me my friend, what brings you here? I'm here to maybe talk about games or music or videos we find worth a small chuckle or giggle session. Maybe you could tell me some interesting stories from your work or from your favorite thing you've done in a game. For me, one of my more interesting days at work was doing a run that took two hours (not normal), and I ended up seeing some of the process on how radiation therapy works! (I work as a patient transporter at a hospital) As for stories from games? In STALKER: Gamma, I once recruited some random rookie level stalker into my possee just because I could and it was funny. At one point during my run, he disappeared from my group and I didn't know where he went for a full IRL day, and eventually, he came right back to me out of fucking NOWHERE. I ended up giving him an RPG-7 just because, and he soon got more kills than the Legendary stalker in my group. Incredibly cool, and I got some hilarious images of him from my travels.
If none of that interests you, that's also fine! Maybe watching videos together or playing games (assuming I even have any multiplayer games installed rn), or just listening to stuff you wanna get off your chest! Sometimes just having a fire to sit by with someone to listen to your stories or worries is a great thing to have.
Although, there's just something very specific I'm mainly looking for. I'm looking for someone who wants to just listen. Someone who'd lie down and watch me play games while I geek out about the lore and explain stuff while feeling like I'm talking to someone who's interested in what I like too. It's a rare quality, I'm well aware of that. But just maybe I'll have someone to share what I love with. Someone to share the intricate stories of the Metro or that of The Zone. But, it's not an entire requirement. If you couldn't tell, I lost a really good friend recently that had that quality. And man was she great. I don't know when or if she'll be coming back, but there's definitely a lonely spot she's left behind in her absence. Perhaps it's selfish of me, but I just can't shake that quietness that lingers in the air throughout my day now.

My name is Maxx. I'm a 20 year old dude who's not all that special. I'm a gamer, which is one indicator of who I am I would suppose, as most of my free time if not pretty much all of it is... Gaming. It's what I use and hope for to distract myself from everyday worries. (God I LOVE suppressing emotions via distractions) My job also does keep me just as busy and decently as happy. I (m43) try to do my best to provide for my wife (f38) and 2 kids (3,5) as well as my MIL and would like to think I am doing a decent job. Over the years, I worked to improve our family’s living situation, not only did I complete another bachelors and recently masters in a STEM related degree, I at the same time worked 2 full time jobs (while completing my 2nd bachelors) and put my wife through school as well. She completed a degree where she could make good money (~60-70k/yr) in a healthcare field that always has jobs available. But with the birth of our 2 kids, she has since “gave up” on her career to be a SAHM for the time being. At first it was a struggle while I was finishing up my masters. Once I completed it, after our youngest turned 3 my career took a jump up and we are now able to afford our single income household in a more feasible manner. We’re far from rich but do ok for a single income family of 4 (a little north of 150k base+ bonuses). The past year life was overwhelming per my wife, so even though I now work 75% from home, I budgeted to hire a daytime nanny to help her around the house with 1 child while the other is in school now
My day starts everyday around 530-6am. I get the house ready for the day before the nanny comes at 8am, I get our oldest up and ready for school, breakfast made, and plan out my day, bring our oldest to drop off, and be home in time to let the nanny in. My most recent task at work has me grounded for the next 2 months meaning I am now 100% WFH, while this is nice, I am busy in meetings all day as my role manages teams on a global scale as I oversee projects from my industry. For the past 1 ½ months, I realized… my wife as much as she says her life is stressful at home… starts at 10am. I asked my MIL and nanny if this was always the case after a week or so of wfh, and they both responded more or less… sometimes earlier sometimes later. My wife literally wakes up and cooks and then scrolls through her phone or shops from home… which brings me to my gripe.
I am glad I am able to provide her that sort of life since we both grew up lacking in means. I get the possibility of postpartum depression, the stress of having kids, the feeling of being unfulfilled, the fact that I probably am a shitty husband… but for what it’s worth… everything is taken care of and then some.
I manage the houses finances (she claimed she was too busy to do so), pay all the household bills, I pay my own personal bills, I pay her bills, track and perform all the upkeep of our house appliances/cars/pets/etc., and I also “help” pay for my MIL’s medical bills and car note.
…but apparently my life is on easy street compared to hers. I can't decompress to her because it seems like she always feels the need to 1 up me. I had a bad day… but she had it worse cause I’m lucky I got to go away and work… My feet hurt from walking all day during work travel, which is nothing compared to her standing and cooking with a child clinging to her. For the past 2 or so years… I’ve been told I ruined her life, her opportunities, etc… but when I reminded her of what she says, she denies and dodges accountability. My MIL has brought me aside and stated she’s noticed a change in both myself and my wife. I have a greater attachment to my kids and hell… I’ve hugged the dogs and talked to them more about my life than to my wife. I honestly feel like I am in emotional survival mode as I’m one step from moving up the career ladder and one step away from finding love and comfort from the bottom of a whiskey bottle.
I’m sure I’ll be hearing from the manly men of reddit about how I’m simping… but I’m not a machine. I just want to know and feel that someone I prioritize aside from my kids appreciates and loves me for what I do… I’m sure I’ll hear from the stay at home moms of reddit… which is fine. I grew up in a single parent/mother household. It’s not easy… and honestly with the help of her mother and a nanny Mon-Fri, for one toddler while another child is at school… Can you honestly tell me she’s having the typical SAHM experience? Because neither my friends or colleagues who are single parents can say she is. I’m sure the masses of holier than thou redditors will consider this a poorly written fanfic, but it is what it is.
TL;DR Long story short, It feels as if my wife has checked out of our marriage… we’re only roommates where she can still reap the marriage benefits. I’m not asking for her to throw herself at me all the time and let me do whatever I want… I really just want to be told I’m doing good and just offer me some form of emotional comfort as simple as a hug, but I guess as the man who ruined her life, I deserve it.

  1. Never cheated. I do work in an industry that has a large female population, but I’m literally an open book with work, name colleagues and staff under me, she has access to my work agendas and correspondence if she really wanted to snoop, but on that note she still doesn’t know what exactly I do for a living at this time…
  2. We as whole family her parents and mine have tried to get her to go to therapy but she refuses or skirts around the issue.
  3. Aside from my coming from a single mother household perse, my biological dad was present in my life. She has had both parents in a reportedly monogamous marriage for over 40 years.
  4. I have tried to talk to her about everything and my own feelings but again… 1 upmanship tends to be the trend here.
  5. What I am getting out of the marriage was asked… now, aside from my 2 beautiful kids, I’ve been asking myself that same question. We have a near nonexistent sex life mainly since last year. I always figured maybe it’s part of depression or whatever she may be going through… maybe I’m just not attractive enough or just horrible in bed because of my health conditions… I’m not some super model husband but temptation and opportunity does knock and I can perform still but I never give in, because as cliche as it sounds I honestly do love my wife and want to only be with her.
  6. I’ll give credit where credit is due as I don’t want to sound biased: when I say she wakes up and cooks she cooks for everyone in the house. Myself, kids, MIL, and even nanny. Aside from breakfast she cooks all meals and snacks. I typically fast until lunch time and our oldest tends to eat a small simple breakfast incase they don’t like what school serves that morning. She does load both the kids and her laundry… but seldomly folds and puts them up. I typically do my own and the rest of my clothes I dry clean because they’re work clothes. She does keep track of our pantry and fridge? But after she makes the list I’m the one who goes out and buys everything if not delivered. She does clean our bathrooms and house 50% of the time, the other 50 is done by either MIL or myself or sometime nanny if she feels like being extra helpful.
  7. Prior to nanny, my MIL was the main help for my wife up until she had unexpected medical needs. So I opted to hire a nanny to help them both, more so when MIL is having treatments and recovering.

UPDATE 06May2024. Not sure if anyone would read this, but thank you for those who have reached out and chit chatted. While I know I’ve kept my newfound friends here updated, I figured I just update my post and keep it short.
I showed my wife my post the following weekend and she read it and all the comments. Long story short, argument, she left our house to stay with her sister, and I’ve been a “single parent” since.
It’s sad to say, aside from the goodnights to our kids it’s all pretty much the same routine.
Nothing much else to say other than thank you for all the kind words of encouragement.
***just need to add, this post got bigger than I expected from a venting post but I’ve responded to a few comments. Nonetheless, thank you for the comments and DMs… and more so for the offers to let me ruin your life ha. It’s been the highlight of my day/night as I sit here drinking with my dog while everyone else is asleep.
It feels depressingly sad that I feel that I have to turn to random internet strangers for some sort of validation in my rant. My apologies in advance as I try to keep this as vague as possible.

**First off, thank you for all the comments and DMs. Some context and clarification since admittingly my post was emotionally charged since I typed it up after another argument. **
Post birth, our kids pediatrician’s office gave my wife those PostPartum Depression screening forms and during the time of both she scored pretty high and was suggested to see a therapist. With our second child she scored significantly higher and we or I should say I made an effort to get her the help she needs. She refused, so entered mother-in-law and nanny for support… I know what people will say/think, but this is one of the reasons I am not 100% ready to just give up and file our life together away.
Also, I know silently suffering in the near and long run of our kids' future will not add to a healthy atmosphere, but neither would a bitter and hate filled divorce. I know some have compared it to the ripping off a bandage, saying it’ll hurt at first but that pain goes away but I’d rather try to spare my kids thinking that their parents ended up hating each other because of them or something along those lines.
I’ve told a few ppl I talk to in DM since my last post, a little more insight on my personal life, prior to my promotion I was a PM managing teams and budgets so out of habit I plan for a lot of “what ifs.”. That being said, I made a number of contingency plans if sadly things went south. So, yes I:
Have talked to a lawyer, 3 actually. Know our rights and what each of us are entitled to. Have a draft settlement created and on hold until I feel I need to use it. I know what I want and am willing to offer more than what is fair for our kids' well being, but also have a plan if we end up going to court.
It’s 100% on me that I’m suffering in silence, but I’m too stubborn to just give up so while I am venting, I don't expect anyone to “feel sorry for me”. I endure it to keep the norm our kids know, ensure my MIL’s treatments go uninterrupted, and of course the hope my wife would finally be open to give therapy a shot and climb together to a better place.

I just wanted to update those who have been kind enough to check up via DM and comments. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post. It’s a bit of irony and coincidence that I made a follow up from the update on 06May2024 I made on my original post during men’s mental health awareness month but I could really use another outlet outside of my therapist. My apologies if this isn’t the story book ending/destroying of a relationship people were hoping for…
To save you a read. Wife left. Came back like nothing happened. She made it about her. Nothings changed. I’m continuing to be suffering mentally knowing nothing will change while trying to keep it together for our kids. Lots of take out.
The day after she packed up and left, my wife attempted to come back and take the kids with her to her sister’s. Naturally I was against this and thankfully so was her whole family including said sister. Not only was it not fair to our kids for her to sweep them away into a home that’s not theirs but to put that financial and housing stress on the rest of her family since she doesn’t work and her sister and her family (husband and 3 kids) stays with their dad in the house they grew up in.
After a little over a week of being away, I guess she cooled off so she just decided that it would be fine if she walked in the door with her bags as if she just came back from Target. She came into my office while I was working and angrily stared at me while I sat on a conference call meeting with my team and I couldn't just jump off as this is a busy time of the quarter for us. I guess that didn’t sit well with her because once I took off my headset and closed my laptop she started yelling at me about how much I really don’t care about her and her well being overall. At that moment I couldn't do anything more than look at her and just shake my head. Mother in law came in after hearing my wife yelling and pulled her away, telling her to not bother me, while our nanny kept our youngest away from it all on the other side of the house.
That night after the kids were put to bed, I sat in my office by myself with a drink as I have been doing for the past nights and my wife came in. We talked. We argued. We cried. We drank. One thing led to another and we were in bed. I wish I could say that was our making up but the next sobering morning as we laid there, she went on about how hard it was for her the time she was gone. Literally… it was about her struggles staying at her family house in her old room with her dad and sister’s family. How lucky I am to be able to stay here and do this and that and buy this or do that and not stress as much as they did.
How easy MY and everyone else's in our family lives are compared to hers even though we had similar upbringings…
My mind and heart broke that morning. I’ve been spiraling down since then and this last week I made another attempt to reconcile and talk things out, but I was met with a shouting match while trying to express my current stress and anxieties with life and work in general:
Wife: ”... well do you know how hard this is all for me? You’re supposed to help me be happy.” Me: “So when it comes to my happiness, stress, needs, and overall well being… fk me get over it right? ” Wife: “ We all have our own problems, you need to figure it out and get over them.”
I don't know who the woman I am at home with is but that wasn’t the woman I married and vowed to spend my life with and raise our kids together. Since that conversation, I’ve been noticeably distant with her. I’ve been sleeping in my office or on the couch or with my kids in their bed after putting either one of them to sleep. Still doesn't change her starting her day at 10am… and sitting on her phone talking to her mom groups between cooking meals with the kids in both mother in law and nanny’s care.
Nothing has changed and I doubt that anything will change. Sadly, I think even if we got a divorce, nothing would change or feel different anyway since during my wife’s leaving the days seemed like any other day except with a little more take out than usual. My main fear there isn’t that I wouldn’t just lose my wife, I’d lose my kids in the process.
So I guess it’s sad to say the grand finale to my story with like alot of men and some women I’ve talked to here, I’ll just continue to smile and suffer in silence.

2024.06.09 06:14 snarejunkie I made a custom macropad for Solidworks for $39, and uploaded all the files so you can too!

Ok so, I've been getting older, and more and more noticing that long CAD sessions will give me a bit of a tingle in my fingers, and I'm doing all the exercise and stretching and getting up and walking, but it's a lot to manage, so I thought I should do something I feel like I've always wanted to do, which is build a custom CAD control attachment for my chair, so I cut out all the leaning forward, or at least I can still CAD without pain when I need the back support/rest.
Anyway so I started looking into how to do it, and I was surprised to find a pretty simple way, that required a bit of work on my part. And as I was doing this, I realised that all the work I'd done would make it pretty easy for someone to replicate this, so here's how I did it:
DISCLAIMER: To get everything to work, I had to do some not-so-secure stuff like enabling depreciated software functionality, and allowing this open source software to operate without uBlock and other security and control extensions. I don't know what the risk is of doing this, but I'm willing to take the risk because it's really valuable to me, and super cool)
Step 1: buy cheap QMK enabled macro Pad
Step 2: Get Macro Pad working with Via
This step was probably the hardest so I'm listing out detailed instructions here:

Step 4: Printing icon labels This is also something I wanted to have be real nice, so I went the extra mile to get all the icons (I got them by enabling the largest icons in Solidworks, and also by scaling the display of my apps up to 225, so I could get crisp screencaps of the icons. The ones I grabbed and cleaned up for my layout can be found here. I cleaned the icons all in Powerpoint btw. super quick n dirty.
I used glue-on-a-strip but you can use double sided tape or whatever you want I guess.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone else because I was overjoyed to know that a completely custom macro pad for Solidworks was only $39 and a day's worth of work away!

Kompot

Majestic Kompot.
Who doesn't love fruit??? Okay, well maybe someone is resistant to the wonders of nature, and it is their right. But Kompot - the light, sweet and natural fruit drink popular in Ukraine, Poland and other countries - cannot have enemies, or at least this is what I want to believe. Kompot does have its natural predators, though… those with a sweet tooth and a love for refreshing drinks. Well, I do have a sweet tooth and I remember drinking Kompot all year round as a kid, freshly made in the summer and “canned” for the winter.
The word Kompot comes to us from Latin (compositus, which means “mixture”) all the way through French. Despite its decidedly international name, fruit beverages like Kompot have been made in Ukraine for a very long time; you may remember our post on the very traditional Uzvar way back when. Well, Uzvar is actually a variation of Kompot that is made from dried fruit instead of fresh. Ukrainians love their food preservation techniques, after all.
Nowadays Kompot is still a staple of holidays and hot summer evenings… as we are now entering the peak of fruit season, I hope you can taste it soon too!

Low-Hanging Fruit

Kompot is very easy to make and next to impossible to mess up (so it’s a great opportunity to press your kids into kitchen service!).
You can select just about any fruit that strike your fancy (or combinations of a few)… even when they are about to become a little “too ripe”. The most popular flavor in my neck of the woods is the cherry one (you may have noticed from our recipe posts in the past that we are a little cherry-crazy). But apples, pears and plums are not far behind and are also fantastic.

How to Make Cherry Kompot

Sometimes it's best to just make a LOT of it to save for those moments in winter when you'd like to be reminded of summer.
Ingredients
  • Water: 3 liters
  • Cherries: 800 grams
  • Sugar: 300 grams
    • (more or less, depending how sour the cherries are, and your taste)
Recipe
  1. Bring the water to boil and dissolve the sugar in it.
  2. Carefully add the cherries and boil them for about 5 minutes.
  3. Then take the pot off the heat, close it with the lid and allow it to cool.
  4. It is preferable to let it fully cool naturally.
  5. Serve in glasses, and it's always a nice touch to include a few cherries in each glass! Be nice and don't play favorites with the cherries. ;)
Tips and Variations
  • There are slightly different Kompot philosophies depending on which fruit you are using.
  • If you want to make Kompot from strawberries, you might consider adding a bit of mint. The ratio of ingredients otherwise stays the same.
  • The recipe for the apple version calls for 1 kilogram of apples, 400 grams per 3 liters of water. You need to peel and cut the apples before putting them in the hot water, and boil it for a longer - maybe about 10 minutes.
  • Kompot preserves very well in jars long-term (and this is very common to do in Ukraine for the winter months), but if you're not familiar with the principles of canning/jarring, please familiarize yourself with the fundamentals first as it can be dangerous!
  • Try garnishing your Kompot with a little lemon or lime and enjoy it in the sun with friends. Have fun, my fellow Kompotvores!

I (21f) Have an older sister "Eve" (29f) who had her first child, "Lori" (1f) and while this should be a time of joy an excitement there's actually a lot of tension and brewing resentment between her, our mom, and her husband "Jack" (29m). Despite it being unplanned Eve's pregnancy was wanted and Jack was an involved partner. He went to most of Eve's appointments, took the birthing classes, and supported Eve's decision to just have our mom in the room while he wanted outside when she gave birth.
The plan was for our mom to be by Eve's side in the room and to help stay for a week after Lori was born. Everyone was cool with this but unfortunately our aunt got into some drama with her husband in another state and our mom rushed over to be at her sister's side. Eve was already in her 3rd trimester so Jack didn't like the idea of our mom going and voiced it. Our mom tore Jack a new one and Eve even got on his case about it so he apologized. However, Eve ended up going into labor and Jack ultimately was the one in the room while our mom was away.
When she called, our mom expressed being sad over not being there for the birth of her first grandchild and she and Eve decided that no one else in the family would see Lori until she got back. Without discussing it with Jack. He was understandably not happy as his mom lived about 45 minutes away and was looking forward to meeting Lori too as she was the first grandchild on both sides. Eve pulled the "I just gave birth" card and Jack reluctantly allowed it. On the day that our mom was supposed to come back she missed her flight and couldn't get a new one until the following morning. Our mom could've just rented a car but she didn't want to spend the money since the airline wouldn't refund the money.
Jack was brought up allowing his mom to come again, but Eve refused citing that he already agreed. Unfortunately, Jack's mom was in a car accident and passed before ever getting to meet Lori since Eve wouldn't even allow a video chat. Jack was distraught, he moved to the guest bedroom, went to the funeral alone and refuses to engage with Eve at all.
Jack's side of the family keeps calling and messaging Eve to tell her what a selfish and awful person she is and Jack refuses to defend. Eventually, Eve got sick of it and packed up and left to our mom's house to "teach Jack a lesson" but he hasn't texted or called. Our mom thinks that he just needs some space and that he'll call soon but I just laughed at that. Didn't mean to though.
My mom and Eve asked me why I laughed and I tried to brush it off or even leave but they couldn't let me and pressed for answer. Eventually, I told her that while the accident wasn't her fault she did keep Lori away from Jack's mom meeting her for a week and now she never will. There's no way Jack is going to ever love you enough to forgive that and that you should prepare for the worst. Eve started to bawl her eyes out while mom berated me so I left. AITA?
Edit: Just to clarify because I keep seeing this when the accident first happened Eve has apologized three separate times (Jack has admitted to this) and Eve intended to go to the funeral with him but he drove off without her. Jack does interact with Lori it's Eve that he's icing out and my niece is the only thing he's willing to talk to Eve about. Jack had been living in the guest room for 5 months before Eve left. She's offered to go to couple's counseling but Jack has refused.

OOP: To be fair it wasn't a small thing. My aunt's husband was revealed to be cheating and used her personal information to take out credit cards in her name to pay for his side piece. Plus the potential danger of her own health.

Why would you say something like that? It was incredibly vindictive and nasty. She is a new mother going through ish, and you could have been compassionate. Even civil. You laughing at someone's misfortunes, much less your sister, says a lot about your character.
Her husband may never forgive her, but that's not on her. To be honest, it would be hard to forgive you for kicking her when she was down, so there's that.

And please read the post again. Lori is now a year old and Jack's mom died when she was less than three weeks old. This has been an ongoing issue with months and I TRIED to not say anything and even walk away in order to be civil but my mom and sister kept pressing me for an answer.

OOP: From what she told me it was a "I'm sorry I did x" the first time and then "I'm sorry but I didn't know that y would happen" and then "I'm sorry but we can..."
OOP: My mom did reach out to give her condolences for Jack's mom's passing but I don't know if she apologized for insisting on being the first grandparent to see the baby. Also I know that Eve apologized at least three separate times but it could've been more. I honestly don't know.

It's been a couple of weeks and due to people still occasionally asking I thought I'd give a people some quick updates to the situation. Here are the basic bullet points:
This is all I know for right now and my mom is NOT happy with any of this and is calling Jack a controlling AH but my sister is holding firm in an effort to save her marriage. She claims that BIL and her are making progress in counseling and I hope for her sake that it's true. It's gonna suck not being able to see my niece as much as I wanted for the next possible few years but compared to never being able to see her at all (like Jack's mom) it is what it is. I know a lot of you may not be happy with this update but it is what it is for now.

I won't deny that Jack is taking full advantage of Eve's willingness to do whatever it takes to save the marriage, but Jack has never come off as a controlling person in the past (I mean he didn't put up any opposition to Eve's requests/demands since finding out she was pregnant) but Eve has a support system if she feels like it's getting to be too much.
I'm not going to get involved until I suspect violence.

Yes, your sister was wrong in the original post. Of course she was. But not ONE things on this list can change what happened. Not one. And this parts of this list sound like they could lead to some DV situations in the future on Jack's part. Isolation from support systems is one of those factors.
OOP: Jack's mom suddenly passed away, and she was a loving and sweet person. I wouldn't exactly call it a "win."
Also from what Eve has told me it's not "isolation" so much as strict boundaries. Eve said that these restrictions were only for the baby and that she's able to still have regular contact with whoever she chooses.

i can't imagine them ever getting back on the right footing again after this. eve will lose herself with guilt and trying to keep the family together and jack will lose himself in trying to forgive but also punish eve for what he lost. at that point it's not two people in love, it's just two people filled with resentment and "trying to make it work".

(in response to someone asking if she really has it): No, it's real and I do believe her because her personality did change the further she got into her pregnancy. It's just the way my sister is using her diagnosis that made me word it the way that I did. She's very "he can't stay angry with me I have PPD" and "he has to forgive me I'm not mentally well."

Hey there gentlemen! Name's Sky, and I want the level of passion of the relationship mentioned in the title. Before anyone says anything, yes I know it's an awful relationship as a relationship. Yes, I know that the Phantom is a psycho stalker. Yes I know Christine had at least some level of brainwashing to be worked out. Do I care? No, though I'm realizing now that I could've used Morticia and Gomez for the same effect.
As you may have guessed, I'm an avid horror enjoyer. My favourite movie ever is The Black Cauldron, followed rather closely by Tarot, Sinister, and Barbie's Fairytopia. No, I'm not joking, Fairytopia is one of my favourite films. My comfort TV series isn't necessarily horror, though. It's Dr. Who (Followed by tbh any sort of Scooby-Doo show). My favourite series is Grimm.
I'm an Autistic ADHD voice actress with Dissociative Identity Disorder, just to get that out of the way. If you're not interested in the possibility of being in a relationship with everyone in my skull (in some form, though there are other genders bashing round up here) or you probably having to be the one to text first, then we will not work.
I also DM (and play) Dungeons and Dragons. I enjoy a lot of other games too, to the point of planning a Redfall themed tattoo to go on the arm with the Wizard101 one, so please just ask if you have an idea for something to play together. Chances are, I probably have it and am willing to play it.
Hobbies of course vary from alter to alter (we call them shards because it's easier to envision it as a broken mirror for some people.... Plus it sounds cool.) but in theory there's a solid baseline of enjoyed things somewhere. Some kinda common ground.
One of the shards designs games as a hobby, and he also likes examining things that may be overlooked. That said, he's very comfortably uncomfy in his bubble so it may take time to get to know him. Beware, as I'll flirt with musical/play/film references, he will do the same... But Doctor Who themed or Supernatural themed. I have read some of the things he's typed, and I have cringed.
I'm rather trash at introductions, so I guess I'll just list off some hobbies below
Swimming, archery, going to theme parks, playing guitar, gaming, cosplaying, acting, listening to music, researching things/learning new things.... Going to haunted houses, looking at snakes, etc.
My favourite colour is the barely-tacky red/brownish colour that blood dries to when it's almost dry. I'm not too sure how to describe it, but it isn't crimson. It's not brown either, it's like an in between. Favourite holiday is Halloween, my favoured song right now is honestly the whole of Epic The Musical. If I had to choose one, I'd probably go with The Music of the Night from The Phantom of the Opera. If we get together on VRChat or watch it as a movie somehow, I will sing along. No buts. The quietest I'll be is humming during the ending of the titular song since I haven't hit that note in forever. If we go to the theatre, though, I won't make a peep except for claps (especially for the technical team because they need all the love for that show) at appropriate times. My favourite movie genre is, of course, horror.
My favourite food is hard to choose, and my favourite play isn't Phantom. It's Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe. My favourite musical stage show is Phantom.
My ideal date would probably include the following, in no particular order. A stage show or movie, some time in some sort of interactive entertainment experience (think a theme park, haunted house, or interactive performance such as the Peaky Blinders interactive experience), and we'd likely squeeze in food somewhere along the way. Oh yeah, course you'd be there too. That was just a given so I thought about leaving it out.
I want someone who can match my energy, but isn't dead-set on a specific thing. Course, when all's said n done I'm a bit of a people pleaser so I'll bend over backwards to try to make things work. I live in North America, but my sleep schedule is very wonky.

2024.06.09 05:52 RadsterWarrior Need help deciding on homebrew lore.

Hey all, this one’s gonna be a bit of a read, so apologies in advance. I’ve posted here once or twice about my custom loyalist Iron Warriors chapter of Space Marines, which I’ve named them the Wardens of Deimos previously. Then I went back to my original idea as the Sons of Dantioch. But now, again, I’m at an impasse - I can’t decide on the name and origins of my loyalist Iron Warriors.
I know the whole ‘Do what you think is cool’ rule, and I always try to uphold that. Hell, it’s why I’m doing a loyalist chapter in the first place. The problem here is I simply just can’t decide.
In addition, I have another rule that I usually set for myself - I want whatever I create to feel ‘natural’ to the setting, and make sense. Sure, it’s freaking Warhammer, but I’m not out here to write “Oh, they’ve never lost a battle! And they’re unbeatable!” I want something that’s believable.
All that being said, the two main points of origin I can’t decide between is which Warsmith to make my Marines the descendants of. Firstly, there’s of course Barabas Dantioch. Second, there is the more obscure Kyr Vhalen.
For Dantioch The pros to this are that he’s already got a lot written on him. I’ve got the most framework to write around, and in addition almost everyone already knows him. Also, as this was my original idea, I’ve already got a decent amount of backstory written out for my chapter, so there’s not much that needs to be done on this front.
The cons, however, are that everyone who does loyalist Iron Warriors already does this idea. I’d like to do something as original as I can, so I can say that ‘it’s mine,’ if that makes any sense. There’s also the little bit that the canon chapter, the Silver Skulls, may or may not already fill this role, as it’s heavily alluded to the notion that these marines were created from the gene-seed of Dantioch’s garrison in the aftermath of the fatal Night Lord’s attack. Finally, there’s just that aforementioned fact - that Dantioch’s garrison probably didn’t even survive at all (or, at least, there would have been so few of them left to form a proper chapter, let alone a full squad); Due to the fact that I want my chapter to be the descendants of a full group of loyalist Iron Warriors that banded together during the Heresy to fight for the Imperium, and not just some weird gene-seed experiment by the AdMech, that poses a bit of a problem.
For Kyr Vhalen, The pros in this situation is that, although there is barely anything written on him and the 77th Grand Battalion, that means I have a lot more creative freedom over the origins of my loyalists. After the Alpha Legion’s attack against Vhalen and his battalion, it’s written specifically that although Vhalen was gravely wounded, he was saved by his apothecaries, and that the Alpha Legion specifically didn’t search for any survivors. So, it’s not too hard to come up with an origin using that framework, and achieve my desire of being full descendants of Iron Warriors loyalists. There’s also the fact that Kyr Vhalen has an epic - Shatterblade - and an awesome rememberancer sketch.
The cons, mainly, are that I lose on a Chapter name. A lot of the base origins of the Sons of Dantioch I could probably transfer over with some minor tweaking, but I’d have absolutely no idea what to call my chapter. I could probably harken to Vhalen’s epithet and name my marines the Shatterblades, but that doesn’t come across as powerful or noble of a name if that makes any sense.
To those of you who’ve read this far, thank you. What do y’all think I should do? I’m personally leaning more towards Kyr Vhalen now, but I don’t know. Should I make the switch? Or should I stick with the Sons of Dantioch? If I make the switch, what should my new chapter name be?

2024.06.09 05:43 GenX2XADHD How to Write a Paper When You Have ADHD

Getting organized to sit down and write a major term paper is such a daunting task for us folks with ADHD. As a student I would have vague ideas of what I want to write, but lacked the executive function to get to the job done. I would stare at a blank Word doc, type a sentence, delete a sentence, repeat. Unexpected for a writing major, I know. Are you looking for a way to break out of this cycle?
May I present: the Index Card Method.
As a high school student in the 1990s, I was forced to use this method to write a ten page senior thesis. Nearly all senior level English classes in my school used this method. Prior to that year, I had seen students carrying around fat stacks of index cards, protecting them like their ability to graduate depended on them. It did. I begrudgingly followed this methodical approach even though it wasn't "the way I write." Ironically, I found it so helpful I continued using this method throughout college, and admittedly even in grad school 25 years later.
What is it?
It's a low-tech system of organizing your sources, topics, details, citations, and anything else that goes into your paper.
Why low-tech?
It is a hands-on process loaded with sensory actions. Physically handling and arranging the index cards helps me focus on a task. Filling out an index card and setting it aside and then picking up another FEELS productive. Seeing a growing pile of index cards as you move through the project LOOKS like productivity. These sensory activities boost my momentum.
The best part of this method is how it breaks down a mountain of a project into smaller tasks without requiring me to create a big plan before I can start working on it. The size of each task is literally the size of an index card. Plus, it is an opportunity to use those cool pens you bought the last time you said you would start journaling.
The Index Card Method cannot be done the night before a paper is due, at least I wouldn't try it anyway. If you don't like writing outlines or drafts, give this method a try - but if you're cramming, do give yourself a week to get it done.
How does it work?

Step 1: Cards

Get some 3x5 index cards. For a 10-page, double spaced paper, you will need around 300 cards.
Do not get 150 4x6 cards. They must be 3x5.
For this post, I will assume anyone following this method is using lined index cards. It does not matter if the cards are lined, but know that when I say "On the top line write..." I mean where the actual top line of the card would be. This also means you will be writing across width of the cards in landscape orientation, meaning a full line of text on a 3x5 card runs 5 inches, not 3 inches.
There are two simple, but vital rules to remember when creating cards.
  1. Only write on one side of the card. Leave the other side blank. You will need to see all of a card's contents at a quick glance.
  2. If you make a mistake on a card, immediately tear it in half so it doesn't get mixed up with the ones you want to keep.

Step 2: Thesis card

You will only have a thesis card if you are writing a thesis (argument) paper.
In the center of the top line of your thesis card, write "Thesis Statement."
Now write your thesis statement below that.

Step 3: Topic cards

In the center of the top line write "Topic." Below that, write the name of a topic related to your thesis statement.
Topics should be broad, written as one or two words. Create as many topic cards as you think you will need. You can always create more later, so don't get stuck on this part.
Example: topics related to a thesis on the healthcare industry may include: Insurance, Costs, Medicare, Medicaid, Prevention, Prescription Drugs, Hospitals, etc.

Step 4: First Layout

Spread out your topic cards on a table. Select the broadest topics and line them up in a row in the order in which you would like them in your paper. Now arrange the narrower topics in columns below the broad topics in the order that makes sense to you. Using the example of the healthcare industry in the previous step, "Costs" may be a broad topic with "Insurance" and "Prescription Drugs" listed beneath it.
Split a topic if you need to. "Costs" could also be split into "Consumer Costs" and "National Costs", then "Insurance" and "Prescription Drugs".
Don't expect to have a lot of topic cards at this point. You may only have one or two subtopics for each broad topic. This is fine. You can always add more as you go along.
Take a picture of your topic cards in this arrangement.
Congratulations, you just made an outline!
Now type it out. Title it "Preliminary Outline."

Step 5: Sources

Go find sources you would like to use for your paper. When you find a source you would like to use, create a bibliography card.

Step 6: Bibliography cards

In the center of the top line write "Bibliography".
In the upper left hand corner of the card on the top line, write the number "1", as it is your first Bibliography card. This is your source ID.
Now write the complete and proper reference of your source, formatted according to your citation style. Include doi links, if applicable. Where italic font is used in a citation, underline it on your card.
Open a new document file. Title it "References", "Works Cited", etc., depending on your citation style. Type out your bibliography cards in the order appropriate to your citation style. Most likely they will be alphabetical by author. As you find more sources and write out bibliography cards, add them to this document.
About citation styles:
A citation style is a way to reference your sources, specifically how you list them out and how you identify where you found a fact or quote.
If you are in highschool, your teacher will tell you how to write write and format sources and citations. If they don't, ask.
If you are an undergrad, most professors don't care which style you choose, but they want it consistent. If this is the case, I recommend using APA or MLA because they use simple, in-line citations.
If you are a graduate student, use the appropriate style for your field. If your reference style uses foot notes or end notes, please be aware you may need to create citation IDs later to help you stay organized.

Step 7: Read and Highlight

As you read through your sources, highlight anything that stands out to you that you may want to use in your paper.
This is where I would normally say it does not matter if your sources are printed or digital, but for many of us it does matter. Stepping away from technology is one the reasons I find this method so effective. I encourage you to print articles or photocopy sources when possible.
Your school likely has access to full-text articles online that can be downloaded as PDFs and printed later.
If your source is text from a website, right click on in the body of the text and select Print. When the print window pops up, select PDF (or Adobe PDF) as your printer. In the next pop up, select where you would like to store your file. Your source is now saved as a PDF. By the way, printing to a PDF is the easiest way to save a file while maintaining its formatting. Try it from any program. Now when you print it to paper, it will look like the PDF.

STEP 8: Detail cards

In the center of the top line write the topic related to the highlighted text. If you do not have a related topic card, make one.
In the upper left corner on the top line, write the source ID that matches the one on its respective bibliography card.
In the upper right corner on the top line of each card write the page number(s) from your source as "p 87" or "pp 87-88". If your source does not have page numbers, write your source's equivalent as it applies (act/scene numbers, time stamp, etc.). Look up a style reference guide for requirements.
Now in your own words, write about an area you highlighted. If you want to directly quote the article, make sure you use quotation marks. Otherwise, simply paraphrase it. Use complete sentences.
If you are copying a long quote and run out of room on a card, write the topic, source ID, and page number on another new card and continue writing your quote. In the bottom right corners write "1 of 2" and "2 of 2" respectively.
Create bibliography and detail cards for all your sources. Find more sources as needed. For a 10-page double spaced paper, expect to have around 150-200 detail cards.

Step 9: Second Layout

Lay out all of your topic cards in the same order as your preliminary outline, only this time line them all up in one row.
By this time you may also want to combine or eliminate topics because your project took a different direction from when you first wrote them. This is fine.
When you think you have enough detail cards, sort them into piles by topic. Now arrange your detail cards in columns under their topics in a way that makes sense to you.
Take a picture of all your cards in this arrangement.
Congratulations, you just layed out your final outline!

Step 10: Type Your Outline

Save a copy of your preliminary outline and title it "Final Outline." Fill in the text from the detail cards. Each detail card should be a separate bullet point on your outline. After typing out a detail card, add the citation at the end. You already know the source because you wrote the source number in the upper left hand corner of each card.
You should not have anything in your final outline that is not written down on an index card.

Step 11: First Draft

Save a copy of your final outline and name it "First Draft." Now arrange your bullet points into paragraphs. This is your draft.
Now print it . Proofread it. Ask a friend to proofread it. Mark it up and make any necessary changes on paper. Don't change any quoted text because quotes are ...well ...quotes.

Step 12: Final Copy

Save a copy of your First draft and name the file "Final Copy." Type the edits you handwrote on paper. I realize with today's technology a lot of proofreading and peer editing is done electronically. This is fine. If you're using Google Docs, be sure to use Suggestion Mode. If using Word, turn on Track Changes.
Your paper is done.
High school students, if your teacher doesn't think you've made enough changes between your draft and your final copy, hand over your stack of index cards, both outlines, and your highlighted sources. They will know you didn't use ChatGPT or copy someone else's work because you can't fake what you've just handed to them.

So I'm a single dad looking to meet a new friend but today is my Sunday and I have work in the morning. Yay! (I do enjoy my job and Sundays are the calmest there but working on the weekend makes my little rebel eyes bleed.)
I'm doing the obligatory folding of the Irish spring and flower scented laundry but I don't want to set my phone down. Something in me is telling me to procrastinate so here I am. That or it's a freak allergic reaction to the new dryer sheet. Either way, my new friend and I can both be amazed at how quickly my throat closes and we'll have something to talk about!
For hobbies I do everything. I mean everything. You name it, ive tried it or still do it or gave it up when it stopped being cool. Or made it cool. Or did it when it wasn't cool. Or it never was cool. We can hash out the timeline of cool later though.
Snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, falling down and making it look cool, off-roading, shoe tieing, camping, cold cooking spaghetti noodles, outdoors stuff, shrimp naming, some sports, rock collecting then immediately abd violently uncollecting, guns, demoralizing birds, motorcycles, neighbor spying, painting, drawing, guitar, quitting guitar when I listen to music, good music, bad music, games when I'm good on my PS5... What else?
Oh I like to add stuff to my Amazon cart and then save it for later and never buy it. I just like looking at the collection I have so when I die, someone can say "damn he would have good taste if he bought all this stuff"

This is a long post. Would you please read it? I really need some advice.
I met a man very briefly last year. I won't go into too much detail, but let’s say it was a networking event. We were surrounded by many others, but it seemed like we had a very special connection despite all the noise surrounding us.
I always talk the talk about being bold and ballsy, but never actually do anything about it. That day, I walked the walk. I was in the bathroom, fixing my hair. I saw him as soon as I walked out. I decided to move in his direction, despite having no clue who he was or what I was going to say to him once I got there. It was like my body was drawn to him. Some people from my group were already talking to him (I had not noticed them prior to moving closer).
I extended my hand and introduced myself. From the moment I met his eyes, I knew I was in love. I could feel blood rushing to my ears and temples. We proceeded to talk for 20-ish minutes. Just the two of us for the most part. Oblivious to everyone around us. All that time, I could feel that our bodies were drawn to each other. It was very bizarre. Part of my brain could register that even as it was happening. At some point, I let go. I pushed that thought away and just went with it. It was the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me.
It was so easy to talk to him. I don’t remember where our conversation began and where it ended. I remember topics and how I felt like an open book. I can hold down a conversation, but I am a reserved person, even more so after just meeting someone.
He was clearly older than me. I made sure that he was not wearing a ring.
I called my best friend once I got into my car, still high from that rush. It was the most glorious hour of my life. Everything seemed possible. I’ve been in love before, but never like this. It just made sense. It was like we were cut from the same cloth. Something about us clicked. It sounds silly now, but I was so in love. It was beautiful.
At the end of my commute, my friend called back and sent me screenshots of his social media. Nothing shocking or scandalous. Just him and his young kids from a year ago. No wife. No other public activity. We gathered some more details that made it clear we were in very different stages of our lives and the age gap was rather significant (around 15 years).
I was devastated. It all had happened so fast but the heartbreak cut deep. To make it all worse, not one but two people from work commented about “that guy” the next day. I was friends with a few of my coworkers at the time. One particularly knew that I was struggling with dating. She said, and I quote “you just need a tall man like ____.” Another asked if I knew “that guy” beforehand because we seemed to hit off immediately. I was not imagining the connection. Other people had noticed it too.
I think about his eyes all the time. How I felt in those 20 minutes.
I haven’t felt anything remotely similar in the past 8-9 months since. As it happens, work has brought me even closer to him. I’ve heard his names a few times after that. Good things always. I’m aware that I am idolizing him to some extent, but I also know that our chances of being something together are slim. But it’s possible that we will cross paths again.
I have not been able to avoid thinking about him. No amount of journaling or meditation seems to help. I lead a fulfilling life. Hobbies, friends, grad school, a career in the works. I have become utterly uninterested in any form of dating. What is the point if I can’t feel like that? Will I ever feel so pulled towards someone?
His eyes.
He isn’t even my type. I would have swiped left if I’d seen him on a dating app. We are not compatible by standard criteria. I have never been married. I am not even 24. He has young children. The chances are, this man hasn’t thought about me at all beyond a “cool chick huh” the day of. Despite all this, I can’t move on.
I feel so lost. I grew up in a dysfunctional family with emotionally unavailable parents. As an adult, I am fine for the most part. I occasionally go through stressful phases, but no major mental issues. I’ve been in therapy before, but it was for imposter syndrome. I still struggle with some insecurities, both physical and worth-wise, but I don’t think they’re any more serious than an average person’s.
Am I experiencing limerence? I fantasize about him, almost exclusively in non-sexual ways. I imagine the everyday conversations we would have. I think of him in the middle of doing something, trying to imagine what it would be like to have him around in that moment. I wonder if he ever thinks of me. I know he does not.
I don’t feel bad about this at all. He was not wearing a ring. I did nothing wrong. I’d like to get to the root of my problem, whatever it might be, and fix it.

…Drum Kingdom, right?
It seems a little obvious to me now, but when you think about it, One Piece was originally supposed to be a much shorter story, and when we get to the scenes were Professor Clover is about to reveal the name of the Ancient Kingdom, we all seem to agree it makes sense that it would be something that we would recognize. Otherwise, they would’ve just said the name of the kingdom.
I think that the entire backstory of Chopper and Dr. Hiriluk is actually foreshadowing for what happened in the Void Century between Joyboy, the 20 allied nations, and Imu. I feel like it all just clicked in my head recently, and feel free to add to this, but I think that Wapol is supposed to be a representation of Imu, the 20 doctors are supposed to represent the 20 nations that comprise the world government, Dr. Hiriluk is supposed to represent Joyboy, Chopper is Zunesha, and Dalton is Queen Lily. Save a few details that change between the two events, I think the parallels hold up.
With the revelations in the latest chapters, it seems pretty clear that Joyboy was attempting to solve the energy problem that caused conflict throughout their world, similar to how Dr. Hiriluk was trying to find a cure to mans sickness. Stick with me; in the same way that Dr. Hiriluk’s desire to cure mankind’s illness threatens Wapol’s power, and, indeed, would threaten to put the 20 doctors out of business, Joyboy’s desire to create infinite energy threatened the power of the 20 kingdoms and of Imu. Put another way, Dr. Hiriluk’s dream to cure the world of its fatal illness, which later becomes Choppers dream to be the panacea that cures the world of all its illnesses, is a direct metaphor for Joyboy trying to solve world conflict by creating infinite energy. A panacea would reduce if not eliminate the need for doctors, who Wapol monopolized to force the citizens of Drum to submit to his will, lest they be denied access to medical care. Similarly, an infinite source of energy would remove all justification for resource based conflict between nations, removing the dependency of citizens on their nations to access energy.
If this is true, then the scene where Dr. Hiriluk dies, where Wapol tricks Dr. Hiriluk into believing the kingdom was in danger because the doctors were sick, foreshadows Imu and the 20 allied nations deceiving Joyboy into fearing for the safety of the world, tricking him into the circumstances that would ultimately lead to his death. It would be at this moment, similar to Dalton, that Queen Lily realizes that she has pledged her loyalty to the wrong side, which is why she ultimately betrays Imu. However, devastated by the loss of Joyboy, Zunesha attacks Drum Kingdom, which I believe is the ancestral home of the Minks. This mirrors the way Chopper attacked Wapol and his men, only to be stopped by Dalton. Anyway, back to Zunesha; holding Drum Kingdom and the Minks collectively responsible for the death of Joyboy, Zunesha commits an act of genocide by destroying their home, which was at one time the giant trees we know today as the Drum Rockies. In this parallel, we also get something of an explanation for Chopper’s name; Zunesha, his parallel, chopped down the trees of Drum. Queen Lily, wracked with guilt over her decision to betray Joyboy, but otherwise of a sound mind, punishes Zunesha for his act of genocide, charging him with caring for the displaced Minks who survived the attack until the day he can restore them to their homeland.
I think this is a crime worth the punishment of several centuries and also why the Minks currently live on his back. He awaits the day that he can arrive at “that place” to finally rest and I think that that place is one where the Minks can find a new home, one that was similar to Drum Kingdom; Elbaf. The reason why I think it’s Elbaf is because we pretty much know that there is a, if not several, giant trees on the island already, and I think the reason we haven’t seen Elbaf yet, even from a distance, is because it’s an exact mirror of Drum Kingdom, but without the trees cut down. In any case, I believe Elbaf was able to be protected over the centuries because of the strength of the Giants, whereas Drum Kingdom fell to the powers that be. Furthermore, I think the reason that Elbaf is ‘Fable’ spelled backwards is because it’s supposed to become the new ancient kingdom, or the new promised land of liberation; a multiracial land of equality open to all, and free from the illnesses of the world caused by competition over resources due to it’s access to great technology, something many would regard as an impossible dream, or, a ‘Fable’ if you will. Think about it; we know that the sky islands are accessible via Elbaf, right? I think that similarly, Skypeia used to be accessible through Drum Kingdom as well. If Drum is the Ancient Kingdom, it would almost have to be; a great nation with advanced technology that was home to all the races. When Zunesha chops down the trees of Drum, he affects more than just the Minks; he cuts off the Skypieans from Vearth, which is why the Skypeians end up fighting a centuries long war with the Shandians once Jaya is shot into the sky, but I digress. I also think that explains why the Giants have been waiting for the return of the Sun God Nika, because they have been acting as the protectors of his new kingdom over the centuries, believing that he would once again return.
This brings up some interesting questions I think we might consider; why Drum? Simply put I think that Drum Kingdom used to be the original home of the devil fruit trees, trees that would eventually grow the devil fruits that would allow the world to stop fighting for resources. You know that saying that money doesn’t grow on trees? Imagine if the solution to all of mankind’s problems did. Something else to consider here as well is that I think the commonly held belief that there can only be one of each type of devil fruit is a lie. I think that this is something that Dr. Vegapunk sort of proves, even if imperfectly, when he re-create Kaido’s fruit. The reason why I think this is important is in regards to the infinite energy source that Vegapunk was attempting to re-create, but couldn’t. I think the reason why he couldn’t re-create the energy source was because it wasn’t a standalone invention like the Mother Flame. I think, quite literally, the infinite energy source is the Mera-Mera no mi, once held by Ace and now possessed by Sabo. If the Mera-Mera no mi is the infinite energy source, and if multiple copies of the same devil fruit can exist at the same time, then you would simply need o grow the fruit as many times as necessary to provide energy to all who needed it. I think this fits even symbolically when we can think back to the fight between Ace and Blackbeard, where darkness, or the Void Century, consumed the Sun, or the infinite energy source meant to end all wars. Now, with Sabo in control of that power and the revolutionary spirit to use it, we may see him use the ancient weapons in attempt to defeat Imu and the world government. Whether or not, this is a good thing remains to be seen, as he could very well be repeating the mistakes of the past. Something else to consider regarding the Mera-Mera no mi, if it truly is the infinite energy source, is Ace’s execution; the stated reason for his execution was the fear of his potentially as Roger’s son, and the loose association between his fire ability and the possible reincarnation of the Sun God, but what if it was actually an attempt to recapture the devil fruit capable of powering the Ancient Weapons? We don’t really have a clear explanation of how the fruit ended up in Doflamingo’s possession, but between him being the broker of the underworld, a Warlord with access to the World Government, and knowing about the ‘national treasure’ of Mariejois, it wouldn’t surprise me if using the Ancient Weapons, in addition to body-sapping with Imu, was a part of his scheme for world domination.
Another sort of interesting take I have is that I believe that Imu was acting, not necessarily in self-defense, but with an interest that’s less evil than we would think; I think that with the rapid development of technology in the ancient kingdom, Imu saw the harm that was being done to the earth, and wanted to prevent that harm from progressing and so, in a manner of speaking, cut off the head of the snake of that progress, who was Joyboy. This is why we always see Imu in the flower room, as he has a great respect for nature and will protect it at all costs. I think that Imu might have been trying to protect the world from the negative consequences of the ancient weapons, specifically that were being developed, which were causing the sea levels to rise, and maybe in the service of that protection, became corrupted, deciding that he could use that same power to rid the world of all those he considered sinners. If the infinite energy source is supposed to be a metaphor for nuclear energy, I think it makes even more sense. Anyways, I think Imu used the eternal youth surgery in order to watch over the world to ensure that no one would ever discover or use the infinite energy source again. As far as Imu is concerned, preventing the proliferation of infinite energy is a cause noble enough to justify genocide, hence the Gorosei asking him which lights need to be extinguished to protect the world order. In taking on this role, Imu prevented the ‘evils’ of infinite energy, by becoming a different evil than the one he sought to prevent; in Imu’s mind, I’m sure he constitutes the lesser evil. Like Dr. Vegapunk says it’s difficult to say which of the competing ideologies was correct and which one was wrong, if one was evil and if one was not, or if they were both maybe partially correct and partially wrong.
Anyways! That’s my hypothesis. Thoughts, comments, concerns?

I wanted to play Crash of The Titans, which I had played years ago, but the DVD vanished somewhere. Researching how to run a burnt up DVD, I was kind of startled with all the soft modding wizardry people do. I have gotten the game to work in a pretty uncomplicated way that I would like to share!
This is a relatively new development and has only become possible in the last 4 years. A cool person (CTurt) found a way to exploit the PS2's DVD movie playing capabilities to execute arbitrary code. On the technical details page for the exploit, CTurt says:
There already exists a tool (ESR patcher) which patches games to appear like DVD videos so that they'll be accepted by the 'mechacon' (security processor), and an associated loader program (ESR) that boots these patched "video discs". Chaining together this new exploit with that ESR loader would allow you to patch your backups so that they could just be burned and run on your console from boot as though they were official discs.
Such a chaining of tools is what another cool person going by "Jabu" decided to publish! Here is how you can take advantage of this tool:

You need:
  • A DVD - it must be a DVD and not a CD. Strong preference should be given to DVD-R, but you may get it to work with formats like DVD+RW. A random DVD from the store worked perfectly for me - this may not be the case for you depending on the condition of your PS2, in which case you might want to buy from a more fancy brand. ImJecht needed a Taiyo Yuden DVD.
  • A computer with a DVD burner.
  • Image burning software - ImgBurn worked for me, but if you have issues the FreeDVDBoot Github page mentions that trying a different tool like CDBurnerXP may fix them.
  • FreeDVDBoot ESR Patcher by Jabu.
  • If your game is CD-based, you will get UltraISO.
Step-by-step:
  1. Get the image file for your game - either download it from a trustworthy source like the ones listed in this subreddit's megathread or back it up from a CD/DVD you already have.
  2. Download your image burning software.
  3. Download the FreeDVDBoot ESR Patcher.
  4. If your game is CD-based, you will need to use UltraISO to convert whatever format your image file is using (for example, BIN/CUE) into an ISO. Open up the program, open your file, and go to File -> Properties. You will now do the following changes: First, change the media type to 4.7(3.7)GB. Second, on the "CD File System" pane, you will click the "UDF" box. You will then unclick anything else except for ISO 9660. Finally, on the "ISO 9660 FileName Format" pane, you will choose Windows/Unix(3.1). Click OK, go to File -> Save As and save it somewhere. This entire process is described by MrMario2011.
  5. Whether you did step 4 or not, by now you have a working ISO. Simply use the FreeDVDBoot ESR Patcher to modify your ISO - it's instantaneous.
  6. Use your image burning software to burn that into your DVD. If you want to be on the safer side, you may choose the slowest Write Speed possible - 1x in both ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP. It seems to be controversial whether this actually achieves more safety.
  7. Play your game!

For context me and this guy match on tinder and hit it off for the first week. We were talking everyday and we talked about meeting and even FaceTimed (once). Then he got spotty with responses and I said if he wasnt interested in still getting to know each other that was cool and he assured me he still wanted to. Then again goes a week without messaging but I accidentally end up messaging him cause he has the same name as a coworker in my phone. I tell him it was the wrong person and he got weird. We go another week or so of not talking and I assume he ghosted but to be sure I send a message and he eagerly responds and we continue to convo as if nothing happened. He said when I messaged him that I messaged the wrong person he “felt a little something.” So I guess that’s why he never reached out. We’re back to talking and all but one night he asks if we can watch a movie on call when I get off work. I get off at ten and he works early. He ends up falling asleep. The next morning he apologized for not answering me back. I follow up with “it’s fine” after like 8 hours cause as stupid as it is I was a little disappointed. I have not gotten a response since. I’m new to this whole talking thing and overthink a lot. My friend says I should not message him but it’s hard understand what happened. Cause y’all if you had seen the way this man interacted with me😭 you would understand. At this point with his whole not responding for a week thing happening before I’m scared to message him cause I don’t want him to think I’m desperate especially since I already expressed feeling his uninterest. I’m confused and don’t understand any of this. So please someone tell me what you get from this and what I should do now? Hi y’all! I’m the new owner of a juvenile leopard gecko. Thoughts on the enclosure so far?
Specs: • I plan to size up the tank once she’s a little bigger, but she’s in a 24x12x12 right now. • Because I saw mixed opinions on using substrate for juvenile geckos, I’ve lined the floor with paper towels. I’ll eventually switch to use loose substrate (70% organic topsoil, 30% play sand) • I have a matching temp and humidity gauge for the cool side that wasn’t set up when these pics were taken. • I’m using the a Zilla lamp fixture with their 50 watt mini halogen bulb. Warm side doesn’t seem to go above 85° Fahrenheit. • I’ve been feeding her 5-6 meal worms daily (that’s what I saw recommended for juveniles) which I coat in calcium without D3. I keep a dish of it in her enclosure. • I haven’t held her yet—I’m giving her time to acclimate—so SHE actually may be a HE. But I’ve already named her Lola… 🤷🏽‍♀️
Specific Questions: • Do I need a UV lamp? Or could I switch to calcium w/ D3? • What’s the ideal temp/humidity? (Cool & warm side) • What should I feed her? And how often?
Seems like there’s a lot of bad recommendations and mixed opinions online. What’s a reliable source?
