A subreddit focused on the practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking. CBT starts with the assumption that changing maladaptive thinking leads to change in behavior and emotions. The treatment focuses on changing an individual's thoughts (cognitive patterns) in order to change his or her behavior and emotional state.

As a visual learner myself, I wanted to create a quick and easy way to share information on recovery in the form of charts and visual guides. These cover a variety of recovery and self-care topics. It also serves as a searchable database of worksheets I can use in my practice as a local outpatient therapist. If you have feedback on anything you see here, I would love to hear it as this is also how I beta test ideas before using them at my job. (WAS /selfcarecharts. Revamped and renewed.)

2024.02.13 04:06 NurseAid HESI A2: 93% First Try: Remotely Proctored Exam

Hello, I don't have much to add on top of everything that so many others have said, I took my HESI in 2024 remotely.
Quick background: I am a post-bach currently finishing courses to apply for nursing school and working part-time so I only had every other day to dedicate in terms of studying for the HESI for about 6 weeks. I used NurseHub, Quizlet, Khan Academy and the practice bank below. My school didn't require a physics portion.
Practice Question Bank: https://www.hesia2practicetest.com/hesi-a2-biology-practice-test/
NurseHub:
I signed up for a NurseHub subscription because I read a lot about others using the program and how it helped them on Reddit, so I decided to give it a try. I paid $19.99/month and used it for 2 months. I just used their advice and built a schedule based on my strengths and weaknesses. If I scored a 90% or higher on a particular subject, I gave that subject (i.e. Vocabulary) less priority than something like Biology (72%).
Pros:
I liked their program because it offered a study plan to keep up with the course work. Pre-/Post-assessments give you a general idea of what you would score if you were taking the exam without/with any preparation. Overall the subjects are explained well, and they have live assistance available as a pop-out chat if you had any questions over subjects. Works well on a budget!
Cons:
Physics portion had a lot of errors, so just make sure you double-check their work before thinking you made a mistake. Very monotonous so its tough to do long study sessions. Some sections are more detailed than others. Some of the post-assessment questions are a repeat of the quizzes completed.
HESI Exam Highlights: Remotely Proctored
I had to sign-up for the exam and looked specifically for remote testing because there were no availabilities for in-person testing. The company who was in charge of the proctoring were very thorough, definitely recommend an external web cam because they make you move the camera under the seat and under arm rests. However, the part that I hated about the remote proctoring was the fact that I had no timer for my exam or the ability to take a break from the exam.
Basic on-screen calculator provided.
I was only allowed to use a whiteboard (8x11 in), my dry-erase marker had an eraser on the top
I'm not sure if it were my nerves for the exam and just being blind or a glitch in the program but my exam didn't have a timer anywhere on the screen and when I asked the proctor about it, they said since they didn't have access to my screen they couldn't tell me anything.
I never took a break because I didn't have a timer. I was told that I had ONE 10-minute break for the whole exam but that it wasn't separate from the exam, so if I took a break it would be on exam time. I was too worried about not knowing the time and I was told that once I leave the room to use the restroom/eat/take a break you would have to go through the whole security check again on exam time!
You get to choose which section you want to take, there is no mandatory order. I just went down the list. I didn't know my school didn't require physics so I studied for it anyways but there wasn't a physics portion available.
A&P (100%): https://quizlet.com/680471316/hesi-a2-anatomy-physiology-v1v2-flash-cards/?i=9apjn&x=1jqt
This quizlet is a life-saver, memorize this everyday if you have to but this is your key to doing well on this section!!
I would do my best on the NurseHub post quiz for each body system, then copy and print the questions along with their explanations. I feel like NurseHub went way more into-depth than this exam required. I wish they were more descriptive about the skeletal system and bone healing.
Biology (100%): It has been a while since Bio 1&2 for me, so NurseHub really did great in emphasizing my weak points. I did the same thing for A&P in this section, copy and print the questions along with their explanations. I used the following Khan academy links to help me with Cellular Resp
  1. Cell: which organelle did what and where they were found in the cell.
  2. Reactants and products of photosynthesis and cellular respiration!!!! Know how much ATP, NADH, FADH2, H2) and total ATP produced. Know what happens in the Electron Transport Chain.
  3. Mitosis & Meiosis: know what happens at the division phases, the differences between them, how many cells (n) are left after each round of division.
  4. Genetics: Punnet square, homozygous vs heterozygous outcomes, pleiotropy
  5. DNA/RNA/Protein: functions of mRNA, tRNA, where do these process occur
Khan Academy:
https://www.khanacademy.org/science/ap-biology/cellular-energetics/cellular-respiration-ap/a/steps-of-cellular-respiration
https://www.khanacademy.org/science/ap-biology/cellular-energetics/cellular-respiration-ap/a/oxidative-phosphorylation-etc
Chemistry (84%):
NurseHub did a fair job in explaining the material
  1. Reaction Types: single, double, decomp
  2. pH: how do you know whats acidic and basic, who accepts H+ ions,
  3. Elements: how do you calculate atomic #, importance of isotopes, atomic mass, what is closer to the nucleus, difference between proton, neutron, and electron. What are alloys, metals, non-metals. Valence electrons, octets, affinity, polanon-polar compounds, hydrogen/intermoleculaintramolecular bonding
  4. Calculations: how to calculate moles, density, temperature conversions
Quizlet: https://quizlet.com/113532648/hesi-a2-chemistry-flash-cards/
Math (90%): I'm not the best at math, it's usually my weakest subject. I used NurseHub and it paid off in my opinion. The questions were very similar to those asked on NurseHub. The exam does try to trick you by saying how many numbers after the decimal are allowed, so watch out for the wording!!
  1. Mixed Numbers: multiply, divide, add, subtract
  2. Percentages: word-problems
  3. Military time conversions
  4. Conversions: I struggled with this, honestly do yourself the favor and just endure the torture of doing a lot of practice questions if you struggle with conversions. Know how to jump between conversions like from ounces to gallons. This unfortunately is just brute memorization.
  5. Some questions I had to solve and enter manually.
Khan Academy
https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-fifth-grade-math/imp-measurement-and-data-3/imp-unit-conversion/v/u-s-customary-and-metric-units
https://www.k5learning.com/free-math-worksheets/fifth-grade-5/measurement/converting-fluid-volume-units-all
Vocab 94%: I studied strictly from NurseHub and just practiced this over and over again, some of these words show up. The questions either directly asked what a word meant or made you read a passage to identify its meaning. There are medical terminology words on the exam and they are covered in NurseHub.
Grammar 95%: I used NurseHub for this section. A lot of this section in my opinion was based on, if I say it out loud does it sound right. But often that doesn't always work as English is not my first language. I definitely recommend struggling with NurseHub and watching their videos and doing ALL of their questions.
  1. Know the appropriate usage of: they're, their, there, its, it's
  2. Read the sentences carefully, they try to trick you by misspelling words!
  3. Subject predicate, adjective, noun
Reading (90%): I love reading but for pleasure and not for exams, I owe my score to NurseHub being very monotonous. Learn to pace yourself, some of the passages aren't very long but I feel like during an exam it sometimes gets hard to keep going. I personally had to close my eyes and rest for 30 seconds after every 5 questions so I didn't get burned out.
I know this post was long and most everything on here is a repetition as seen in other posts but I just wanted to share my experience. I'm a nervous tester and I know no matter how many posts I read I search for another to see if I missed anything. I hope this helps, I wish everyone taking this exam the best! You all are very smart and talented, don't doubt yourself!
Thank you to everyone that have posted their experiences and the materials they used!

2023.11.21 20:46 saltwatertaffy324 Resources as old as I am

Our storage room is a mess and hasn’t been cleaned in years. I’m slowly trying to go through it and throw out the trash and see what is usable and work keeping. I found an activity for mitosis/meiosis that uses beads to simulate the chromosomes that I’ve slowly been adapting. The boxes were unopened so I assumed they were semi new. Looking at the provided worksheet today I noticed the copyright date: 1999. Not sure what’s more shocking, that the boxes have sat unopened for that long in our storage room or that this activity is almost as old as I am. Though it has nothing on the book from the 70s I found while cleaning a room that was built 15 years ago.

2021.08.20 08:08 creamcheesecake1010 THE ONLY GENETICS TUTOR YOU WILL EVER NEED! HIT ME UP ON DISCORD SuperSonicHedgehog#1329 !

Hi y'all! I'm back on reddit after a long hiatus! :) I've been busy with life bc of health reasons so lately I've only been responding to students who message me on discord. I apologize to those I haven't responded to lately! I still get busy with work and my own research sometimes so I've included in this post the usual questions I get asked in the hopes of saving both of our times. So before messaging me, PLEASE READ TIL THE END :)
For those who haven't heard of me yet, I'm a molecular biology grad student who specializes in genetics, and molecular and cell biology. If you have difficulty understanding your biology courses, I'd be glad to help you with those! I also have a background on chemistry and biochemistry so I can help with those subjects depending on the topics. I can help with exams, quizzes, worksheets, and laboratory reports. I also do one-on-one tutoring via Discord or Zoom.
I've helped around 200+ students on reddit and discord for their bio or chem subjects and most vouches can be seen here. I can also send screenshots of my conversations with students upon request.
SUBJECTS
Here are the topics I've done on the following subjects. If the topics for your course are not listed below, message me and I'll see if I can handle it.
USUAL RATES
DM me so we can talk about it. But it usually depends on difficulty of subject matter, time due, level of difficulty, and type of questions. For example. last minute requests are usually charged additionally and written type or short answer exams are more expensive.
AVAILABILITY
I'm usually available 8AM-12NN and 8PM EST onwards (e.g. I'm usually not available 12NN to 8PM EST). If you ask for my time on hours I'm not available, I usually ask for an additional charge.
REFUND POLICY
I will be honest with you if I won't be able to offer a good grade. And I assure you that I will never intentionally fail your exams. However, unexpected things happen and sometimes, the prof will be an a$$ and really make the exam super hard. This is why I am offering a refund policy for my students: full refund for failure, partial refund for anything below 80%.
PAYMENT TERMS
Because of various times that I was scammed (i.e. here), I could not accept the 50/50 payment that I've been doing before. Upfront payment is my new policy since I believe I already built my reputation in this community. Refund is always an option if I ever do bad.
My Paypal recently got banned without any warning [they won't say why, they just did it suddenly]. So I would prefer receiving payment via crypto, moneygram, or remitly. If in any case that Paypal is the only option, I can ask my friend to receive the payment for me.
MESSAGING ME
I get a lot of requests so it would help if you give me all info right away so we won't be wasting both of our times. When messaging me please include the following:
That's it! I look forward to working with all of you!

2019.03.22 00:36 rollllllllll_ What happens when none of the homologous chromosomes present separate at anaphase of meiosis 1, but their sister chromatids separate normally at meiosis 2?

Ahh I'm so confused with this question. I'm currently working on a worksheet that my teacher's gonna grade that can boost my grade by 5 points. I understand the basics of meiosis 1 and 2 but this question is throwing me off.
