Hi team, hoping to get some guidance on my visa situation as it has been quite stressful and my BRP ends soon so need to action my decision ASAP.
I'm a New Zealand citizen and currently on the YMV (BRP valid until 06/06/2024). My aim is to get ILR and my current employer has offered to sponsor me (3 years). They are in the process of applying for additional sponsor license allocations (please correct me of the proper term for this?) at the moment to sponsor me. They are going to pay for their sponsorship fees (roughly 1k or equivalent to paying for the YMV 1 year extension) but I will have to pay the additional costs of the SWV (roughly 4k pounds is what has been said).
I have a British partner so have also looked at the spousal visa option but would prefer to go the sponsorship route if possible.
My employer has advised me to extend my YMV for another year (at their expense) and then I would have been with my partner for 2 years and eligible for the spousal visa - which is the cheaper and good option, however I would still prefer to get on the SWV.
My main concern is the cost associated with the SWV and how that will impact me if I want to change employers as I understand this cost needs to be paid upfront. For example, if I pay the 4k pounds and get the sponsorship visa with my current employer and then get a job offer from a future employer - what cost will the future employer incur and will this hinder my chances of getting a job offer? I assume once I pay the 4k for 3 years IHS and application costs, this will carry over to my future employers sponsorship and they won't need to pay this again? If so, which costs will I or they incur for applying for new SWV with them?
Would be very grateful if I could get some advice ASAP on this as it is difficult to find online. I am wondering what your thoughts are on whether I should just go down the year YMV extension route and then spousal visa after that to save the hassle.
Essentially wanting to know if I go through with the SWV with current employer (and pay 4k of it), how financially tied down am I with them and what the process would be if I were to switch SWV to another employer with cost breakdown.

Im having an ongoing issue with data/graphics populating on a FT ME application when our machine is power cycled. Strangely, a few data points/graphics are visible when power is restored, but the majority of the application is blank or has question marks. I’ve checked the communication paths and everything was good. I checked the PLC for faults and it was good. The only way I’ve been able to recover from this is to go online with PLC and then download the program back into it. Any ideas on what the issue could potentially be? I’m lost and I don’t know what I should even be investigating at this point.

After finally finding a job, I wanted to offer some advice to people stuck in the same situation as me. The job market is so screwed these days, it’s even hard to land a basic fast food job. If you have any friends/family that can help you get a job, be thankful. If not, here’s what I did:
I started applying in March/April before my courses wrapped up. Though I preferred the restaurant industry, I was willing to do any basic entry-level job. Though, I did avoid trades work as that is not my forte. I began applying to everything on mass online. Once I got off school, I began to go in person.
I received 2 interviews (host at cactus club, crew member at chipotle) from my online applications and 1 interview from my in person applications (local, family owned convenience store). Chipotle hired me on the spot, the other two ghosted me. But now I have a job at least!
It was taking a serious toll on my mental health. Watching some of my friends land crazy intern jobs due to lucky connections while I couldn’t even get a job at McDonald’s if I tried. But, that’s just how life works sometimes. Keep mass applying online, go in person(!!!), and smile and be friendly as possible. Even though it’s super un-motivating. You got this!

Then in January, I received an email saying I passed and I got invited to do an interview with them. It is now May and I have received no word from them since then! Hello Reddit,
I just wanted to know if I got a decent deal or not on the new car I just bought since I really don't know and the car sales people do a good job of confusing me.
I bought a brand new 2024 Mazda CX30 Select Sport. The MSRP was $26,500 plus $1,375 destination and $195 for all weather floor mats and $595 for Machine Gray Metallic paint charge bringing total MSRP to $28,660 on the window sticker.
They had an online deal listing this car at $24,589 with dealer discounts. I just had to make a print out from the website and show it to the finance manager which I did. They had a bunch of select sports with this same internet price.
When I got there I asked for an extra $500 off because their doc fee was $999 which I thought was crazy. Eventually they gave it to me but they kept wanting to talk about my monthly car payment budget.
I know you are only supposed to ask about the out the door price which I was doing but they kept confusing me and circling back to the monthly payment.
I told them I wanted to put $5,000 down and wanted a 72 month term. They said do I have financing? I said yes but didn't want to tell them who. They kept saying we need to know. I kept saying no. But they kept badgering. I eventually gave in and told them Capital One.
They said what's the rate. I said what rate you can get me first. They said we need to know. I told them 8.9% but I felt I should get something more like 7%. If they could do that I would go with Mazda financing.
They ran my credit application. They said Mazda could only do 10.36%. I was like nope. I got pre-approved at 8.9% with Cap One but I think 7% is possible. They said no way.
My credit score is 640 and I have a bankruptcy from 6 years ago. I have taken out no credit in that 6 years. They mentioned this to me. I said I still think I can get 7% (I had no idea but I was trying not to be a sucker)
Eventually they came back with 8.8% beating Cap One by 0.1% which didn't surprise me.
They kept wanting to talk about the monthly payment and I kept getting confused. They started me at 490 per month for 72 months with my 5k down. I said no way.
By the end of the negotiating I got it down to 400 even. So 90 dollars per month less. Is that okay?
My final rate it says on my contract is actually 8.45 percent.
Charges breakdown are as follows:
Cash price of motor vehicle $24,079.83. (MSRP on the sticker was $28,660 which I mentioned before)
Sales tax in Arizona: $1915.63.
Total Cash Price: $25,995.46.
Down Payment: $5,000
Other rebates: $1,000

Unpaid Balance of Cash Price: $19,995.46
License and Registration: $507.48
Doc Fee: $999
WEST COAST ASSURANCE for Maintenance Plan: $1,000

Total amount financed $22,506.84
I don't understand the last 2 charges. I told them I wanted no extras on my contract. No Gap. No extended warranties. No maintenance plans. Nothing. Only Tax, title, registration and doc fee. What is the "West Coast Assurance plan" and the "total other charges..."
The finance manager tried initially for $490. I said $400 from the get go. Then he tried for $450. Then at $429 with 3 years of free oil changes but I stuck to $400 and he said how about we meet in the middle at $415. I still said no and he eventually agreed to the $400.
I did not see other charges or west coast assurance when i was signing my documents. Did I get scammed?
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Thank you.
P.S. I bought the car on Saturday, May 11. I noticed on their website that all the Select Sports are now between $1,500 and $2,500 above the $24,079.63 that I got on their internet deal but I have those additional things added on so I don't know if I got scammed.
TLDR: Please look at the charges and let me know if I got a decent deal or I got took by the car lot. Thank you so much.

Edit: I meant benefit, not maintenance. England. The guidance online states in the case of 50/50 custody only 1 parent can claim child benefit. It categorically cannot be shared. Parents must agree between them which claims and the other, well, doesn’t. In the case of 2 applications for the same child it cancels each other out and neither gets the payment (we believe).
So, my wife has received child benefit for her child from previous for 11 years. Father has recently won 50/50 in court and immediately applied for payments. My wife warned that it could cancel her payments but he went ahead anyway.
My wife received her full payment as normal but Father claims he has also received full payment. This is contradictory to the guidance online and we are worried that when they cotton on, the payments will be stopped.
From what we can gather, she has a choice of actions.
1.). She stays quiet and hope they don’t notice so we keep receiving the much needed payment.
Risk: They eventually realise and order the money is repaid.
2.) She contacts them to advise of the situation, asks Father to be removed because she should be the beneficiary.
Risk: They say neither of you are getting it then.
Can anyone please shed some insight in to this scenario and the best action to take?

I’m still in the process of finalizing my double consolidated Parent Plus Loans to SAVE. I sent in my paper SAVE application to EdFinancial through certified mail and it was delivered by end of March. I haven’t gotten any communication yet from EdFinancial and when I call, the representative mentioned there is no indication of it being processed. They said that doing it online would be faster.
Am I able to submit the SAVE application on the EdFinancial website? I initially did a paper consolidation for my loans to two services, then did another consolidation through the StudentAid website to EdFinancial. Does anyone know if I can apply to SAVE through the EdFinancial website at this point?

2024.05.16 20:28 Loving2care TLDR: Why can't I land a job in NYC? Do I need to dumb down?

F42/ 18 years work experience, undergraduate certificate-management, post grad certificate-finance and master degree-international relations.
I live in NYC and after my divorce, I moved and took a job in the neighborhood as an Executive Assistant with a small company, to be near home and school until my kids were old enough. I loved being an EA, the work load was hectic and demanding but I really thrived doing it and so did my Executive. ( I am also an EA, remotely and part time with an out of state organization- they love me so much and are offering me a full time but I am not ready to move to GA.) Youngest turned 7, so now it was time to find a bigger network and more challenging job and fast pace environment. I had my resume revamped by two separate resume writing entities, one of which was recommended through the NYC Dept of Labor (DOL). Sent it out and barely heard back anything and when I did, it was to shut me down.
I applied to no less than 300 jobs, via Indeed, Zip Recruiter and directly to companies via their careers page, keeping records of it all.
For instance, after 43 applications for Senior Exec Asst at a major bank (there were multiple departments requiring SEA and some Executives need 4 EA's) I had been sent rejection emails right away for 42 of those but I landed ONE interview, and they interviewed me to death (something like 5-7 rounds) I always interview very well, as I am very articulate with excellent communication skills and my personality is always a hit with interviewers. I met the entire team, the Hiring Manager was super excited to have me join the team, as were the other EA's and her last step (another interview) was to introduce me to the Executive himself but he was out of the country. I would meet him 'next week.' The leaving SEA said I had the right personality and accolades for the job and I would be perfect. Then, bam! Ghosted. Followed up and here comes the rejection email. I cried, honestly.
My job coach, whom I was working along with via DOL suggested my resume was too strong and I needed to 'dumb down' because I was already more qualified than the managers of most companies and this would be intimidating. I did not agree. I wanted to be compensated for my qualifications and experience. You can't punish me for not going to school and still punish me for going to school. I last did a Leadership Ethics and Corporate Accountability Completion Certificate with Harvard Business School Online, one of those things you do just for knowledge. She wants me to take that off too...It was 6 weeks and ONLINE!!!!!
I finally landed an EA job through an agency with a major transportation company. I am on payroll of the agency, and not the transportation company. The contract would renew annually on a need basis. Not secure but it was about $40k more than last job. This of course has no benefits whatsoever, except 5 sick days per year as mandated by NYC Laws, so high insurance costs are all borne by me. I have applied for in house jobs, and have had amazing interviews with transportation company but here comes rejection emails after the interviews and rejection emails without inviting me to interview. You would think it would be easier to hire me because you don't have to train me. Sigh. 22 applications, rejected straight off the bat.
This week, I applied for EA and Chief of Staff jobs, with pay ranges $120-$180k, I do not have high hopes. I am such a good worker though. Talk about organized, analytical, reliable and creative in thinking...my two current Executives are so pleased with me, as was the last. I had a sick day recently, and my Executive was telling someone, when I am not here, everything falls down.
I decided to seek a part time retail job, for evenings and weekends, (yes, Fidelis health insurance is killing me $650 per month, no vision, no dental and FYI the kids are not included on this plan, did I mention a $4,800 deductible?) I digress. Anyway, they have all rejected me, not one has invited me to interview! Not Target, not Burlington, not Marshalls, not TJ Maxx, etc! Not one interview! My friend at another retail company, where I was about to apply told me I needed to remove everything and leave it at High School Diploma.

I'm currently a sophomore in high school, soon to be a junior as this school year comes to an end. I've attended traditional public school up until my sophomore year, when I decided to switch to an online public school. I’ve been considering returning to in-person school for my senior year because I’m afraid of missing out on social experiences like prom and senior homecoming, and I've heard there's more guidance for college applications in person. I switched to online learning initially because I believed it suited me better. I did very well in traditional public school, but I’d always end up finishing assignments quickly and having to be forced to sit there and do absolutely nothing the remainder of class. Additionally, there’s lots of fake people and I’d always be relied upon to do all the work in group projects. But overall, the environment was extremely draining, and online school resolved all these issues. I definitely prefer it over a traditional school setting, I'm just torn about whether it's worth sacrificing once-in-a-lifetime experiences during senior year. Then again, maybe it's not such a big deal to miss them.

My name is Kate, I am offering tutoring for some of MRU’s Academic Upgrading courses. These include:
*I have not taken Math 0132 myself, but I’m open to chatting about it. *I took CHEM 181, which is SAIT’s equivalent course to CHEM 0115.
Rate: $25/hour for both session hours and prep hours. However long your session time is, I spend an equal amount of hours preparing material (similar to a lesson plan) for us to cover during the session itself. So for a 1 hour session, I spend a 1 hour doing prep - making the total cost $50.
Payment is per session, delivered via e-transfer on the same day that the session takes place. There is no cancellation fee for a missed session.
Format: Regular sessions take place online via Google Meet, with an option of scheduling an additional, occasional in-person session. Such as an in-person exam review session prior to an exam.

About Me
I dropped out of high school when I was in grade 11, but decided to finally come back to finish my schooling via Academic Upgrading at MRU almost a decade later! I completed my own upgrading this past Winter semester and will be applying to UofC for Engineering when applications open in the fall.
So I understand from personal experience how daunting it can be to overcome various academic challenges: whether they are from the perspective of being a mature student returning to school after many years away, a student with a learning disability and/or struggles with mental health, or just generally overcoming previous negative experiences with school. Due to this, I am incredibly passionate about helping other students “learn how to learn” and fall in love with learning, like I have!
Experience
My tutoring journey began when I was taking Chem 181 online at SAIT last summer. I started an online study group for some classmates and I to meet up weekly, which organically turned into informal tutoring sessions. I loved doing them - I really fell in love with it! I gained so much personal fulfilment from feeling like I was doing something to make a tangible difference for my fellow student’s academic success.
This inspired me to sign up as a Learning Peer in the PLP program when I returned to MRU in the fall, where I received formal training and valuable experience.
As an LP for MATH 0115 my first semester, I received excellent feedback in both my peer evaluation and from my learners themselves, along with a Learning Peer Award. I learned so much - I do my best to follow researched learning practices in my sessions, such as Varied Practice and Spaced Practice. I try to have my learners guide sessions as much as possible in terms of content and learning activities. I am passionate about receiving earner feedback regarding how I can improve. It is important to me that my learners to feel like our sessions are a productive use of their time.
In my second semester, I tutored groups in CHEM 0130 and MATH 0131 - along with taking some additional training through the PLP program. I improved as a tutor and received extremely positive feedback from my learners and in my 20-hour staff evaluation. I was awarded both a Learning Peer Award and an Outstanding Contribution award.
I have completed almost 50 session hours as an LP over the course of the 2 semesters, with nearly 70 total volunteer hours - which includes hours spent in training.
