2024.05.17 00:26 Snoo58137 Tokyo & Hokkaido 14 day itinerary check: July-August 2024

Hi there we're a family of 3 (2 adults who've been to Japan before, one 10 year old who hasn't) and our main priorities with this trip are to enjoy delicious Japanese food, introduce our son to Japanese culture, see beautiful natural wonders (we especially love being near water), and to not completely melt in the heat (hence choosing Hokkaido). We also enjoy road trips and my husband is comfortable driving in novel places.
Here's our draft itinerary:
We’ve booked our flights to and from Japan and our hotel in Shibuya, but we haven’t booked our other accommodations, Hokaido-Tokyo flight or train as my central questions are:
  1. Does the arc of our Hokkaido flow make sense? Is there any pro and con of switching up the cities, for example going to Asahikawa / Otaru first prior to Sapporo, not just as an overall arc but also in terms of weekend versus weekday activities?
  2. At this time of year, is one of these areas better for fireworks?
  3. Any local festivals we should not miss?
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes time to respond!

2024.05.17 00:20 AgapeHand Success Story: The Transformation of the San Miguel Community.

Success Story: The Transformation of the San Miguel Community.
At Ágape Hands, we believe every donation can transform lives and communities. Here’s the inspiring story of San Miguel, a small village that has radically changed thanks to our donors' generosity and our volunteers' efforts.

The Challenge

San Miguel, a rural village, faced significant challenges: lack of clean water, food scarcity, and limited educational opportunities. The community, primarily composed of farming families, struggled with very limited resources.

Ágape Hands’ Intervention

In 2021, Ágape Hands launched a campaign to raise $50,000 to improve San Miguel's quality of life. Thanks to our donors, we initiated several transformative projects:
  1. Clean Water System: We installed a purification system that provides clean, safe water to over 500 people.
  2. Community Gardens: We established gardens that supply fresh, nutritious food and generate additional income for families.
  3. Educational Programs: We built a small school and provided educational materials, enabling over 100 children to access quality education.

Impactful Results

The health of San Miguel’s residents improved significantly due to clean water and fresh food from the gardens. The new school educates children and serves as a community center where adults learn new skills, such as farming techniques and business management.

Ana María, a mother of three, shares: "Before, my children often got sick from drinking contaminated water. Now, with clean water and fresh food, they are healthier and happier. The school has been a blessing; my children are learning, and I have attended farming classes that have helped us improve our plot."

A Promising Future

San Miguel's transformation demonstrates the power of solidarity and generosity. Our projects have improved current living conditions and laid the foundations for a sustainable future.
We remain committed to supporting communities like San Miguel and need your help to continue this important work. Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to achieving a more just and equitable world.

How You Can Help

Your support can make a difference. Join our mission and contribute to more success stories like San Miguel's. Donate Now and be part of the change.

2024.05.17 00:02 ThePepperAssassin Just spent 10 days in Milwaukee

I was familiar with the town about 15 years ago, but hadn't visited since then. Currently I live in San Francisco. My visit lasted for twelve days and I stayed at an AirBnb in the Bayview neighborhood.
Here is my unsolicited two cents:
On the list for the next visit is more live music, and a few more pizza places (Maria's, Ned's and Caradero).

2024.05.16 23:54 ReliableMykee Hotel Suggestions?

I'm having a hard time trying to find a place to stay for the weekend, doesn't seem to be anything close to the pier, everything is 15-20 mins away. Which is fine, but I'm looking for something that has a party/hangout vibe to it, and all I'm finding are posh modern style hotels. There are two that keep coming up - Phoenix Hotel, which is all booked up JUST for the Sunday night which is annoying, and W Hotel which looks REALLY nice but not sure if it's worth the $250 USD per night price tag.
Anyone got their finger on the pulse as far as cool/hip/unique/social hang out hotels go in San Fran?
Also, does San Fran have those e-scooters you can tap your card on to (Lyft, Bird, Lime etc)? I think that would be a fun way to get myself down to the Pier each day 😎

u/Costco is well-known for its bulk products and savings, along with its $1.50 hot dog and soda combo bargain, but did you know they also offer travel services? Costco Travel provides members with access to discounted vacation packages, car rentals, cruises, and more. This guide will help you understand how to use Costco Travel, the benefits, and how to get the most out of your Costco membership.

What Is Costco Travel?

Costco Travel is a division of Costco Wholesale that offers a variety of travel services to Costco members. These services include vacation packages, cruises, rental cars, and hotel bookings. By leveraging Costco’s buying power, Costco Travel is able to provide its members with exclusive deals and benefits that are often hard to beat.

Do You Need a Costco Membership to Use Costco Travel?

Yes, a Costco membership is required to book travel through Costco Travel. There are two personal membership levels: Gold Star ($60 per year) and Executive ($120 per year). Executive members receive additional benefits, including a 2% reward on all Costco (and Costco Travel) purchases, which can make the membership fee worthwhile.
https://preview.redd.it/qxm03rz8wu0d1.jpg?width=1193&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d7687ebf10b1e333c855dde82e77e7559feb830

How to Book Travel with Costco

Booking travel with Costco is straightforward. Simply visit the Costco Travel website, log in with your membership credentials, and browse the available travel options. You can search for vacation packages, rental cars, cruises, and more. Once you find a deal that suits your needs, you can book directly through the website or by calling Costco Travel customer service.

Can You Apply for a Costco Travel Credit Card?

While Costco Travel doesn’t have its own credit card, the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi is an excellent option for Costco members. This card offers 3% cash back on travel and restaurant purchases, making it a great choice for those who frequently book travel through Costco.

Benefits of Using Costco Travel

Do You Save Money Using Costco Travel?

Costco Travel often provides significant savings compared to booking directly through airlines, hotels, or other travel agencies. By bundling services such as flights, hotels, and car rentals into one package, Costco can offer competitive rates. Executive members also earn a 2% reward on all non-taxable travel purchases, adding to the savings.

Exclusive Perks and Benefits

Costco Travel packages often include exclusive perks such as resort credits, free breakfast, and room upgrades. Additionally, some packages come with a Costco Shop Card, which can be used in-store or online at Costco.

Time Savings and Convenience

Booking travel through Costco is convenient and saves time. Instead of searching multiple websites for deals, members can find everything they need in one place. The Costco Travel website is user-friendly and provides detailed information about each package, including what's included and any special offers.

Costco Travel Vacation Packages

Are Costco Vacation Packages a Good Deal?

‍Costco vacation packages can offer excellent value, especially for destinations like Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Packages often include flights, accommodations, and other extras like resort credits or meal plans. It's always a good idea to compare the total cost of a Costco package with booking each component separately to ensure you're getting the best deal.

Can You Negotiate with Costco Travel?

While you can't negotiate prices with Costco Travel, you can take advantage of their price match policy. If you find a lower price for the same package within 30 days of booking, Costco will match the price. This ensures that you're always getting the best deal available.

Costco Travel Packages

Costco Travel packages typically include lodging and may also include airfare, airport transfers, and car rental, as well as activities—depending on the trip.

Pricing

Costco Travel's package bundling can save hundreds of dollars on your vacation. For example, an eight-night package in a deluxe villa at Palms at Wailea on Maui, including round flights from Tampa, Florida, and a full-size rental car, costs $5,594.15. The package also includes a $116 digital Costco Shop Card and resort fees such as damage protection and cleaning fees. However, there was a cancellation fee of $200. By booking the same stay and rental car separately, the cost is $5,561.90, making the Costco package competitively priced when you factor in the included extras and the digital shop card.

Perks and Savings

Executive members earn a 2% reward on all non-taxable travel purchases, adding to the savings. Some packages come with a Costco Shop Card, which can be used in-store or online at Costco. Additional perks often include resort credits, free breakfast, and room upgrades, providing added value for your booking.

Inclusive Resorts

Costco Travel offers packages to inclusive resorts, which are ideal for families and couples looking for a hassle-free vacation. These packages often include meals, drinks, and various activities, providing excellent value for money. Popular destinations for inclusive resort packages include Mexico’s Riviera Maya and the Caribbean islands.

Do Costco Travel Prices Go Down?

Costco Travel prices are generally competitive and often lower than booking directly with airlines or hotels. However, prices can fluctuate based on demand and availability. Costco also offers price adjustments if you find a lower price for the same package within 30 days of booking.

Kirkland Signature Travel Packages

‍Kirkland Signature, Costco’s private label brand, extends its reputation for quality and value to travel packages as well. Kirkland Signature travel packages are curated to offer exceptional experiences at competitive prices, often including exclusive perks that enhance your vacation.

What Are Kirkland Signature Travel Packages?

Kirkland Signature travel packages are specially selected vacation deals that provide added value for Costco members. These packages can include a variety of destinations such as inclusive resorts, cruises, and theme park vacations. They often come with extras like resort credits, complimentary meals, and unique experiences exclusive to Costco members.‍

Benefits of Kirkland Signature Travel Packages

  1. Exclusive Perks: Kirkland Signature travel packages often include exclusive perks such as room upgrades, free breakfasts, and resort credits, enhancing the overall value of your trip.
  2. Competitive Pricing: These packages are priced competitively, leveraging Costco’s buying power to offer significant savings compared to booking each component separately.
  3. High-Quality Accommodations: The packages typically feature high-quality accommodations and services, ensuring a premium travel experience.

Examples of Kirkland Signature Travel Deals

Kirkland Signature deals might include a week-long stay at a luxury inclusive resort in the Caribbean with all meals and drinks included, plus a resort credit for spa services or activities. Another example could be a cruise package with an upgraded cabin, complimentary shore excursions, and a Costco Shop Card.
By choosing Kirkland Signature travel packages, Costco members can enjoy meticulously curated vacations that offer both value and luxury, making their travel experiences more memorable and cost-effective.

Costco Travel Car Rentals‍

Is Costco the Cheapest Way to Rent a Car?

Costco Travel often offers some of the lowest prices on rental cars. They work with top car rental companies like Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Enterprise. Benefits of booking through Costco Travel include additional driver fees waived and competitive pricing. However, it's always wise to compare prices with other rental car agencies to ensure you're getting the best deal.

Costco Travel Cruises

Why Book Cruises with Costco Travel?

Costco Travel works with 12 major cruise lines, including Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, and Royal Caribbean. Booking a cruise through Costco Travel can come with significant perks such as onboard credits, free upgrades, and Costco Shop Cards. Additionally, Executive members earn a 2% reward on non-taxable cruise costs.

Costco Travel Flights

Booking Flights with Costco Travel
Costco Travel does not sell standalone flights. Flights must be bundled with a lodging or travel package purchase. This approach can save time and reduce hassle, as you can book all travel needs in one place and receive one itinerary to keep track of everything.

How Costco Travel Compares to Other Booking Methods

Other Travel Websites

While Costco Travel can offer significant savings, it’s still a good idea to compare prices with other travel websites like Priceline, Expedia, and Orbitz. These sites may offer different airlines, hotels, rental car companies, and additional features not available through Costco Travel.
Before buying any travel online, make sure you use Kudos, a free browser extension and AI-powered wallet, to double your credit card rewards at over 15,000 participating stores like Trip.com.

‍Booking Directly with Travel Providers‍

Booking directly with airlines with the best airline cards, hotels, or rental car companies can sometimes provide benefits like loyalty program points and elite status benefits that may not be available when booking through third-party sites like Costco Travel. It’s essential to compare prices and benefits to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

Is Costco Travel Right for You?

Costco Travel offers a convenient and cost-effective way to book travel, with exclusive perks and benefits for members. Whether you're planning a family vacation, a romantic getaway, or a business trip, Costco Travel can help you save money and enjoy a hassle-free booking experience. By taking advantage of their travel packages, car rentals, and cruises, and using tools like Kudos to unlock your credit card rewards and benefits, you can maximize your savings and make the most of your travel budget.

2024.05.16 21:23 dreezypeeezy AITA for... well... it's a doozy

This happened a year or two ago, but I still feel weird about the whole situation. Hopefully Charlotte can provide some advice. A little backstory...
My friend and I went to NYC for her birthday. We went to this cocktail bar and everything was going well. My GI system can, let's just say, be kinda funky, so while I enjoy drinking with friends I just can't do it sometimes- my body won't let me. This night, after one cocktail, my body was telling me that I'd had enough alcohol, and I let my fiend know I was done drinking for the night. She wanted to go out to a club afterwards, and I agreed, but repeated that I didn't think I could drink any more while we were there. We got there, I bought her a drink, and we started scanning the scene. We ended up talking to these two guys, who insisted on buying us drinks. The one talking to me asked what I wanted, I lied and said I was already very drunk. He asked what I **would** drink, and I said, stupidly, that I like tequila. He bought a round of shots for all of us and the second it went down I knew it was going come back up, so I ran to the bathroom, threw up, (skipping over a mildly interesting story here), and went back out. I told her and these guys that I needed to go outside, and that I had just thrown up and was not feeling well. We kept hanging out for a few minutes, and I felt sick again and hit the bathroom a second time. My friend wanted to stay in the club, but I knew I needed air or I'd feel worse. So the guy and went outside and sat in his car for a while (he was parked right in front of the club). At this point it was about 1:30 AM. We chatted about life, food, etc while I regained my senses. I texted my friend that my stomach was upset and to let me know when she was ready to go. The guy I was with offered to drive me and her to the hotel at about 2:30 AM. My friend and I exchanged a couple of texts to the effect of me saying I wasn't feeling well and her insisting that I not leave her there alone. She insisted that I come back in and hang out and not drink, but I was done being out for the night. At 3AM I asked her if she was coming back with me or if she wanted me to pay for her Uber to the hotel. She said her guy was paying for the uber and that me going back to the room and waiting to let her in sounded good. I apologized multiple times that the night ended in a way that I hadn't as I'd intended it to. I felt really bad about leaving her there, and I believe I'm probably an AH for that. I got driven home, kicked the guy out of the room, and waited for her. She got back around 4AM, I let her in, and it was like nothing weird happened. I told my mom about this, and she was very weary about this friend, and was insistent that I shouldn't go out with her again. I wasn't sure, until later.
About a year after that, we're seniors in college. Now, my school was notoriously a huge party school. I'd been to a few of the frat parties when I was a freshman, and it honestly wasn't my vibe. But my friend wanted to come visit me and go to a frat party together. I tried to explain to her that frat parties were gross, and that I wasn't comfortable subjecting myself to being groped by 18-19 y/o'olds. There are a couple bars in town that offer a frat-party scene, just with adult men in their early 20's (ie our age). She really, really, wanted to go to a frat party, and said I was "robbing her of the *insert my college's nickname* experience. I ended up telling her that I didn't feel comfortable going out partying with her any more, and brought up what had happened the previous time. She said that she hadn't done anything wrong and that I shouldn't have left her alone that night. I said "I get that," or something along those lines, and we haven't spoken since. I know I should not have left her alone. I feel I do owe her an apology for that. However, I also would like to believe that if I was out with a friend who wasn't feeling well, even if it was my birthday, I would go back with her when she'd told me repeatedly over the course of hours that she wasn't feeling well and needed to go home.
So, was I TA for leaving her alone that night? Was I TA for not wanting to go to a frat party with her? I know I fucked up here, but I need some sort of peace of mind.

2024.05.16 21:06 hell0potato Legoland CA: First time visit trip report

Went on a Wednesday in Mid-May, after reading lots of tips and tricks here. 4y + 1y. The kids had so much fun, we ended up converting our single passes to annual passes at the end of the day. I found it to be so well thought out for little kids. Even the bathrooms had low sinks, and hand dryers for littles. And lots of family restrooms and the stalls in the regular bathrooms were wide so you could bring your toddler in with you and not be cramped. We had no issue whatsoever bringing in snacks and re-fillable water bottles from home. Note: when going through the gates, you have to empty your stroller of all bags, so don't spend time meticulously packing it in the parking lot, only to have to empty it and re-pack like we did.
We arrived around 9:30 to get into the gates before opening because we wanted to get coffees, buy some stuff at the big store and go to the bathroom, etc before getting into the main areas. Well, the coffee machine was broken, and the big store was closed until later, I think because it was such a slow morning. Not sure when it opened, but maybe 11ish? So our morning plan was a bust. We talked to an MC later and they said it was a slow day, only 3000 in the park, versus 10-15k on a busy summer day.
Once 10am hit, we went straight to the back area where the medieval themed area is to meet other people arriving through the back hotel gate. We were a few of maybe 15 people in the area. My 4yo was able to ride the medieval horse ride, 3x in a row without getting off because there were no other people waiting. As we made our way back towards the front, things started filling in, but we were still able to ride rides a few times in a row until about 11:30 or so. FYI, the medieval themed area is very shady compared to the rest of the park, so if it's a really hot day and you need a break, then maybe head back there. The wooden playground was very novel for my kids and they loved it. We slowly made our way around the circle to the front of the park, checking everything out along the way since it was everyone's first time.
We stopped for lunch at the pizza buffet. Had planned to do the BBQ place but we didn't want to double back. This was a good choice for little kids. Salad bar had lots of stuff for the 1yo - peas, corn, chickpeas, cheese, shredded carrots, etc. And pizza, pasta and mac n cheese. Pizza surprisingly good for a theme park. Drinks included, but only soda, no milk or juice for kids (that I saw). When we arrived it was empty (12:45), but by the time we left at 1:30 it was insanely busy with a huge line to get in/get to the buffet. So come early or come after lunch hour. After lunch we made our way through miniland, over to funtown and then through lego movie area and dino valley back to the entrance. We kind of had to blow through funtown (except duplo) and lego movie/dino valley due to lack of time.
Rides 4yo loved most: Medieval horse ride, little airplane ride, beetle bounce and lost kingdom in the adventure land area, bioncle blasteteacups and dino valley stuff, too. Technic coaster was too much for him.
Ride 1yo loved most: little airplane ride and carousel
Playgrounds: Duplo and the wooden one at the back were the fav of both 4 and 1 yos. 4yo also loved the one with the flying balls in adventure land. I personally thought the ninjago one was the coolest.
Other items of interest: 4yo was obsessed with going around miniland and pushing all of the buttons to make stuff happen. Dance party at the end of the day at the front stage near the entrance. The build your boat to race attraction was a big hit, too. The adults really enjoyed the SD part of miniland, especially the funny inside jokes, like the "Allbertos" taco shop, IYKNK :D
Thanks again to this sub for all the info and insight!

2024.05.16 21:00 Hmpx98 I accused my partner of cheating and I am upset, I don’t think he would do that to me but I have a strange email that says otherwise. What to do now?

My partner and I seemed to be really happy and communicating well, and seeing eachother a lot and being intimate and planning for the future together. We have been together for 2 and a half years and he seemed serious about saving up for a house and sticking together.
We don’t live together we both still live with our parents but we also have a couple of holidays booked that we’re looking forward to. He has always been a good and loyal man to me as far as I’m aware.
This weekend I’ve gone abroad alone to meet my friend whose working in Italy currently, as I was just looking at my emails I noticed two in the ‘junk’ folder from booking dot com, promoting a destination relatively near to my partners workplace and saying that it was searched for for 1 night for 2 adults this weekend, sunday to the Monday (when I’m back from my trip and we’ve already agreed to hang out). It could be a coincidence and my account has been compromised, or it could be him looking and not realising it’s logged into my account as I’ve looked up hotels on his computer before and left it logged in.
This situation sent me quite mad as I suffer badly with anxiety and ocd intrusive thoughts, so I tend to think worst case scenario (that he’s cheating) and I got so worked up I phoned him like 10 times while he was sleeping and I tried to log into his airbnb account to see if he’d made a reservation there. He woke up and phoned me back and I told him that I’d found this email and asked all around and it wasn’t anyone else, he said it wasn’t him and he has no idea about it, that my account must be compromised because it certainly wasn’t him that looked. I found this hard to believe as it felt too coincidental, I argued back to him and said I’d escalated to booking and they are going to tell me the location of who logged into look it up and he still stuck by saying it wasn’t him. He then got annoyed and hung up on me, and has since asked me to leave him alone for the evening because I shouldn’t have tried to wake him up as he’d had a long night shift, and that he was disappointed and embarrassed for me that I tried to hack his airbnb too.
I hope I have got the wrong end of the stick here but I suppose I won’t know, I am upset by how I’ve acted in this situation I just got so stressed and panicked I ended up shooting myself in the foot.

2024.05.16 20:57 Hmpx98 Am I wrong for accusing my partner of cheating, due to an email I received?

2024.05.16 20:19 MatthiasW Long, flat, uninterrupted running routes

I'm training up for the RnR half and am just looking for new and interesting training locations for 10-12 mile runs. I can always run a few more laps around Miramar or back-and-forth on Lake Murray. (Side note: why the ever living hell are cars allowed on the Miramar running path? I seriously hate that.) I've done Mission Bay and Morley Field more times than I can count. (I love running down around the south end of the golf course and then back up Pershing.) I've run throughout Rose, San Clemente, and Tecolote Canyons. Lots of street neighborhood runs in the mid-city, Clairemont and 4S areas. Every single trail in Mission Trails. The 56 bike path. Penasquitos Canyon. Rancho Mission and Navajo Canyons. Azalea, Hollywood, and Swan Canyons. I love running here and am just looking for new ideas for long, flat, uninterrupted routes, preferably with few traffic crossings. I'm considering adding the Del Dios-to-San Pasqual section of the Coast to Crest Trail to my repertoire if I can do it without getting smeared into paste by cyclists. What favorite long routes do you have fellow runners?

2024.05.16 20:15 Hmpx98 I received an email from booking dot com, inviting me to finish searching for a hotel room. It wasn’t me, I’m worried my partner is cheating. Help?

My partner and I seemed to be really happy and communicating well, and seeing eachother a lot and being intimate and planning for the future together. We have been together for 2 and a half years and he seemed serious about saving up for a house and sticking together.

I hope I have got the wrong end of the stick here but I suppose I won’t know as he denies searching this at all, it seems awfully specific for Booking to be sending a marketing campaign and it has been searched, but by who? I just don’t know. But i am upset by how I’ve acted in this situation I just got so stressed and panicked I ended up shooting in the foot. What now?

2024.05.16 20:03 ComfortableRound5891 Zhuhai neighborhood for family vacation

Hey redditors, hopefully this will be a good forum for Zhuhai questions, as I couldn’t find another one with many users.
We will be traveling to Zhuhai for 2-3 days (2 adults and 2 children under 6 yr old).
We will be staying in a hotel, but would like to ask which is a great neighborhood.
*ideally want a 4/5 stars hotel *restaurants walking distance near hotel *good place to take a walk after dinner
We considered hengqin island (hyatt regency/other options) but it looks a bit too resort style.
With limited Google information, we are considering Gongbei, Zhuhai City, Jida, but open to other recommendations, even Hengqin. Thanks.

2024.05.16 19:04 Shrek_2_Soundtrack Looking for short/feature poetic documentaries for my class

I'm teaching a community college course on documentaries, and when we covered poetic documentaries my class of mostly adult males were not impressed with the regular suspects - Koyaanisqatsi or Sans Soleil. Been digging for other examples to show them, but the popular ones are mostly similar to Koyaamisqatsi. Any thoughts? Bonus points if there are any sports related ones, my class loved Hoop Dreams.
