2024.05.18 13:48 getawaycuriosity I think gra-graduate akong Magna Cum Laude.... but I don't feel happy.

Actually, I'm still on my last sem of my sophomore year, pero I do think I'll graduate Magna.
For context, I am an Educ student na consistently pasok sa President's list every sem since freshman. And to tell you honestly, I have two older brothers' taking the same course as me, and even same major. Sunod-sunod yung birth order namin kaya pati sa college sunod-sunod kami. Graduating na yung panganay, cum laude sana pero may grade siyang 2.75 sa isa sa mga subjects niya nung freshman kaya 'di siya qualified. Yung pangalawa naman, Junior na ngayon and top of his class, expected na rin na cum laude base on his grades. Not that I assume na mataas na agad yung makukuha niyang grades sa senior year pero from what I experience sa school na 'to, they take care of potential Latin students and they do not give low grades sa mga graduating students.
Now back to me. It all started nang maging highest ako sa battery exam sa buong College of Education sa aming Univ(1st out of about 300 students). Since then, I've been hearing rumors na they have high hopes na magiging Magna ako. I brushed it off kasi I'm about to become sophomore pa lang thinking that there are a lot of things that can happen. Pero now, I do thinks it's actually possible and I am not happy about it.
Why? I don't like the pressure that comes with it. I have an avoidance behavior din kasi. I'd rather maging cum laude na lang with the others kaysa magstand-out as Magna. I don't believe in manifesting, napaka-pessimistic ko kayang tao. Kaya for me to think na magiging Magna ako is not that easy, backed with facts kaya to. (if I keep up my current academic performance)
I'm not saying na madali mag-educ kasi if you really don't like teaching, magagaya ka sa'kin na all I think about is "ayoko magturo, ayoko ng bata, ayoko na."
I like having high grades, being the top of the class, highest sa exams, at pinakapogi sa room (kakaunti lang kaming boys). Pero yung maging Magna, plss lang wag na.

2024.05.18 13:47 Beggingforbussy Lost on Career Path After Teaching Failed

Background: I am a 23 year old who graduated college last year in family science. Prior to this, I was a special ed major, but did not qualify to continue the program due to some weird circumstances. After I graduated, an opportunity to work as a special ed teacher in a high school (co-teaching) popped up (contractual), so I took it. I liked it, but admin seemed to not, and my contract was not renewed.
I’m at the point where I have no clue what I want to do with my life. Teaching failed, and I truly don’t know if I was ever even good at it. I think my anxiety got in the way of a lot of things. Now I need to find a new idea for a career. Any suggestions are appreciated. I would still like to do something that helps people, even if it is indirect.
Things I enjoyed as a special ed teacher: - developing IEPs - creating materials for classes - grading - paperwork - reading and analyzing psych and educational evaluations - small group/one-on-one work with students - building relationships with students
Things I struggled with: - teaching in front of the class - Speaking at IEP meetings. I had to make a script for every single meeting, and always froze up when things went wrong and a parent got upset

2024.05.18 13:46 Shyam_Lama Nietzsche's diatribes against the Church

Much of Nietzsche's polemics are directed at the Church's teaching that desires are to be eradicated. For example, from Twilight, chapter V, "Morality as Anti-Nature":
The church fights against passion with every kind of excision: its method, its ‘cure’, is castratism. It never asks ‘how does one spiritualize, beautify, deify a desire?’—in disciplining, it has put the emphasis throughout the ages on eradication (of sensuality, pride, the urge to rule, to possess, to avenge).—But attacking the passions at the root means attacking life at the root: the practice of the church is inimical to life...
I have two questions about this.
First, it seems to me that Nietzsche never asks why the Church is against desires. I've never read anything by Nietzsche that even raised this question (of why the church would teach against desires), let alone anything where Nietzsche actually debates the Church's reasons. Afaik Nietzsche simply finds the church's teaching distasteful without ever wondering whether the Church had a good reason for its teaching. (Which, btw, she did and does.) Have I missed something?
Second, it seems to me that Nietzsche does not distinguish between different kinds of desire. Why not? I think this is a mistake. Surely the desire to get involved with an attractive woman is rather different from the desire to enslave or otherwise oppress one's fellow man. Yet Nietzsche seems to think all desires are equal: he seems to believe all desires are expressions of the Will to Live, and are therefore equally legitimate. Again I wonder if I've missed something, or that indeed Nietzsche is simplistic in this regard.

2024.05.18 13:37 Fyraltari Chapter Eight: The Colovian Frontier (2024/05/18)

Colovia long been a vital component of the Empire, its mineral riches and hardy people, ideally suited to serve in the Legions, complementing the Niben's vast agricultural output and advanced wizardry. This is for these very reasons that, during the Second Great War, the Aldmeri focused their initial assault on the region. But the devastation brought on by the fierce fighting would pale in comparison to the ravages brought on by the Silver Plague, often carried there from far-off lands by unsuspecting human Legionnaire or Elven soldiers. As a result the region suffered the highest death toll of the epidemic, with estimates ranging from three fourths to five sixths of the population dying. Ghastly tales abound of cohorts coming to the defense of specific settlements only to find them inhabited only by corpses showing the infamous pale sheen that gave the disease its name. In order to survive, the people fled towns and cities to the relative isolation of the countryside. While some gathered to the ancient Wayshrines of the Divines whose blessings seem to offer some amount of protection (in particular those dedicated to Arkay near Skingrad and Kvatch), most turned to banditry with a crueltry born of desperation. This period of lawlessness, colloquially known as "The Days of Lean Wolves", crippled any attempt at centralized governments and even today, almost two hundred years later, the Colovian city-states can only reliably control their close surroundings.
The largest and most powerful city of Colovia is Chorrol. Of all the kingdoms of the region it is the one who has changed the least from the days of the Empire. Indeed, Chorrol fancies herself the leader of reborn "Colovian Estates" and a rival of Cheydinhal for the legacy of the Empire of Cyrodiil, to the point that her monarchs have eschewed the title of king in favor of that of Archduke of Colovia. The greatest pride of the Chorrolinas is the Great Chapel of Stendarr, which has been continously expanded in size to serve as fortress to the Knightly Order of the Crusaders of Stendarr, which has swelled to numbers not seen since the Interregnum of the Second Era. More academically-minded visitors will no doubt seek the College of Whispers, seated in the Great Oak Plaza and whose advances in enchanting, though religiously controversial, have done wonders for the economy of the city, which relies mainly on lumber, tin and copper.
The second most powerful city in the region, and Chorrol's main rival, is Skingrad, the City of Julianos. During the First Great War, the city's count was revealed by the invading Elves to have been an undying vampire, Janus Hassildor, who had ruled the county continously since the late Third Era through intermediaries and passing himself as his own descendants. While he was saved in extremis from death by sunlight exposure in public by faithful servants, the visible toll the punishment had taken on him had made his nature undeniable and following the White-Gold Concordate, Titus II saw fit to name General Jonna Countess of Skingrad, as reward for her service during the Great War. Unfortunately for the people of the City, their new Nordic Countess was a soldier through and through and her main concern was preparing for the coming second conflict with the Dominion, all other matters be damned, and she became widely unpopular. Nonetheless, when the city found herself to be among the first urban center hit by the Sivler Plague just as an Aldmeri army marched on, Conutess Jonna recognized the impossibility of holding under siege and ordered the entire city to be evacuated while she lead her troops into a sacrificial charge against the Elves. It is perhaps then unsurprising that when Janus Hassildor made himself known again, his former subjects flocked to the one who they associated with their former Golden age. King Janus now openly rules the City as a vampire, a condition shared by several of his courtiers, though he insists that they only feed on those criminals sentenced to death and willing donors (indeed it is rumored to be a way of quick advancement within the Vampire King's court). Despite the best efforts of "the wine capital of Cyrodiil", this state of affair casts a gloomy image on the city, something not helped by the persistent rumors that the ghosts of the Elven army, who allegedly all died of the plague less than a day after taking the city, haunt the streets at night.
While her leadership has traditionally belogned to the Crown party of Redguards, descended from the Totambu aristocracy of Yokuda, the common people of Elinhir have always mingled with their Cyrodiilic neighbors to the East and adopted many trappings of their culture, to the point the city is now considered a part of Colovia rather than Hammerfell by her people, something that the Yokedate to the South-West objects to in the strongest possible way. As such, it is perhaps unsuprising that when the city's nobility fell victim to the plague, the Elinhirri turned to the Blackcasters, the ancient order of wizards who gave the "City of Mages" its epithet. While their remedies where only mildly effective in combatting the Plague, their potent destruction magic proved invaluable in defending the city against its various enemies. As a result the Elinhirri are now ruled by a concil of six Archmagisters, each specializing in one of the Schools of Magic, who serve for life (after which their surviving colleagues pick their replacement from the order's most talented wizards). Should the council be tied, a, elected representative of the common people, the Speaker, whose role is otherwise purely advisory, is allowed a deciding vote.
During the Interwar Period, the ancient city of Sutch, which had become nothing more than a ruin occupied by bandits was re-fortified to defend against and invasion from Valenwood. The old Great Chapel of Kynareth was rebuilt and commoners moved from the Highlands to support the Garrison. While it was undeniably fought over fiercely, it is unknown which side (if any) came on top as the belligerants were decimated byt the plague and all corpses found inside were burned by the town's new masters. Indeed when the Plague had abated and people moved to re-settle the city, they found it already inhabited, by goblins. Several tribes had come under the leadership of a particularly cunning warlord and taken the fortress as their own. As the humans prepared to make war, to free their homeland, the Primate of Kynareth, Andreas Jarrol, brokered a peaceful solution to the conflict, allowing humans and goblin-ken to co-exist as he spread the the teachings of Kynareth to the primitives, today the city is still lead by Goddess' Primate. Sutch remains the smallest of city states of Colovia, but it profits immensely from trade with nearby Anvil and the Freehold Republic.
Kvatch was long a successful example of a city re-ermerging from the Days of the Lean Wolves as the ruling monarchs took advantage of Bsomeri refugees fleeing the chaos of Valenwood to bolster their economy and even found satellite cities. Unfortunately a fringe movement of Ayleid Revivalists successfully overthrew them and created a "New Ayeleid Imperium" which spread over Valenwood, leaving the city a client state of Silvenar. Furthermore the Chantry of Akatosh was made to incorporate ever more elements of Almderi/Ayleid religion, now even referring to the Time God as Auri-El and open worship of the Daedric Prince Meridia. Despite this state of affair, many Kvatchians have kept ties with Colovia and a small but growing Akatoshic movement gathers regularly at the Wayshrine of Akatosh near the City.
The final city of note to mention is Sancre Tor, the Craddle of Empires. The Golden Hill had been abandonned and considred cursed since the days of Tiber Septim but in 4E 266, the many minotaur tribes of Cyrodiil congregated towards Sancre Tor, at the behest of the Cow-Queen Ahrzum, who had received a vision of her distant ancestor Morihaus, and proceeeded to rebuild the city with amazing speed. This was initially witnessed with worry by the neigbouring towns and the city of Chorrol in particular who clashed several times with the Manbeasts as they foraged for supplies. But in 4E 320, the largest nomad horde yet seen moved through the region, and both cities allied together to repel them, this alliance was followed by a trade deal, and soon enough the Kingdom of Sancre Tor became a recognized polity of Cyrodiil. It has even become a major pilgrimage site as people come to pray on the spots where Alessia, Reman and Tiber were granted the Amulet of Kings. The Minotaurs have allowed this although they keep their own religion, whose major figures are the Heavenly Bull, Morihaus, his mother the Storm, his wife Alessia and her father Shezarr.
As explained above, these cities only control a fraction of the region and many villages and small towns are de facto independent, while large stretches of lands remain unclaimed, their mineral and agricultural wealths dormant. However this sorry state of affairs is soon to be a thing of the past as the East Empire Company has vastly invested in the revalorisation of the region by re-establishing ancient roads (made secure by Company security forces trained by Legion veterans), connecting isolated villages, and sponsoring indepedent settlers. Colovia shall soon enough once more be a beacon of civilization for the rest of Tamriel!
Yzmul gra-Maluk: by "connecting villages" and "sponsoring settlers" they mean using predatory loans to trap them in debt and use them as cheap labor, at least until they can get undead to do it for even less. They are entire tracks of lands where the EEC might as well be the government. Makes sense, the Potentate's got some restrictions about how bad you can treat your people and that's already too much for the EEC fatcats. Also, most people I've talked to in Kvatch don't seem to mind having Bosmer, sorry Ayleid, rulers instead of humans. And the goblins of Sutch are on equal footing with the Colovians there, hell, it's their connection with the goblins of the Freehold that made trade possible.

2024.05.18 13:10 Not-explaining eFootball wishlist to Konami (r/pesmobile)

eFootball gameplay seem to be going in a bad direction for the past months. To much AI defending/assistance/game balancing, game adding input lag, interceptions, poor passing, fouls not called for, hot potato football not rewarding any type of skillful play. The gameplay feels like its on rails, freedom is gone, players don't respond to your inputs and chances are created by either teams AI players mistakes or incredibly stupid runs. It's just not fun to play anymore. Neither online or vs AI.
eFootball could be fantastic if Konami would listen to ideas, criticism and improve. Here is my wishlist. Feedback based on me and the kids playing on PS4, PS5 and mobile. Offline and online.
  1. Reduce the heavy AI assistance / game-balancing / handholding / Auto defending / Dynamic Difficulty / momentum / whatchamacallit (scr...). I understand its for getting new players staying in the game, having a chance getting coins in the events and winning games. And perhaps make games more non-predictable "anything can happen, maybe". With the current AI handholding level its "anything will happen, constantly". So many chances are created by either teams AI players making mistakes or just making incredibly stupid runs, its like a badly scripted B-movie. The amount of goalpost hits and missed open goals is just silly currently, this goes on until the last few minutes of each match. Please reduce it, or even remove it from Co-op and other game modes where skill should be rewarded. I'd rather get smashed 15-0 and learn from a good player. Than having to play another game with: added input lag and your players turn, react with 0,5 sec delay / 1 team loses every header / 4 shots in goalpost / own goals / missed open goals from 2-3m consequently, instead you have to run the ball into goal!!! / hide n seek players with pass receiver running away from the ball positioning behind defender / every ball intercepted / misdirected passes / every pass straight to other team / passes goes through "invisible" player / player freezing or even running wrong direction vs your stick / opponent attacking with high punt or lofted pass but your defender running past the ball towards opposition goal / ball glued to opposite player in the box / every attempt clearing the ball goes short distance straight to other team, even goalie high punt / all stunning shots 3m over the goal before 85min + all the other crap that's in there. This gameplay on rails is so unrewarding. If I manage to do something skillfull the AI assistance just kills the opportunity with any means. When the AI assistance takes a break, I get an easy goal with no effort from a random through pass + tap in. Many times I can't tell if I am playing well or the game has decided I should win/lose, it kills the joy for me and it's just boring. If Konami could tone down all the weird punishments I'd be very grateful.
  2. Passing and interceptions. Currently worst ever IMO. Game just decides your pass from a player in balance is 90-180 degrees of straight to opponent. Even on Beginner AI and no matter PA1, 2 or 3😂 And the constant interceptions. No flow in the game. Please work on this Konami.
  3. Remove the artificial input-lag. (This is a controversial one, some players simply don't believe our experience it. For me it's obvious as it can be tested offline in several ways on PS5, on mobile I havent tried to confirm it) Stop punishing one side with artificial input lag which make the gameplay feel heavy, unresponsive and your players turn & react with 0,5 sec delay. This is not from server lag as it's there in AI matches and local Trial matches as well, just switch controller between team 1 & 2 and feel the difference. It might activate from beginning of game, or in 2nd half, usually when you are doing well. And vice versa it can dissapear in 2nd half. From my experience it can be reduced or removed by switching playstyle. When finding the right playstyle for that specific match, your players suddenly become responsive again, it can even happen after switching to lowest Manager profiency. I assume its part of the game balancing mechanics. For me this is one of the worst things in the current game, when it kicks in your players don't respond to inputs in time and gameplay just feels awful.
  4. Fix the player freezing. Example: after losing a header to last defender suddenly your attacker just freezes. What's going on here? Have Konami added to much AI handholding and broken the game? 😂😂😂
  5. Reward different playstyles like build up play. Currently most games seem to be high press, interception ping-pong, quick pass and no dribbles. Hot potato football. Holding the ball has become very difficult. Before the AI assistance and auto defending went berzerk, you could actually keep the ball for a second and do something creative. Without 3-5 guys surrounding your player with no options. Now the gameplay is boring with the lack of variety.
  6. Create a game mode free from AI assistance & artificial input lag. Just pure skill. It could be beta, division free or whatever just let us play without the heavy AI handholding. And maybe eFootball will be esports ready 😉. To be honest if another football game is released without momentum/game-balancing /added input-lag and with gameplay based on pure skill. I think eFootball will lose a lot of players.
  7. Add Dream team into Trial match. We have 2 kids who love the card collecting and building their team. But playing online is of no interest to them, and won't be in many years. They want to play local PvP or co-op but with their own Dream team. By now we are very tired of playing the same local play Trial match Argentina Vs PSG. The kids have almost stopped playing eFootball, since they cant play against each other with their own team. In addition this would be a great way to test out new players, builds and game mechanics together with a friend. Much more fun than training mode. This mode is what my family is missing most from this game. And if it would be a "pure" mode without any momentum/game-balancing things would be fantastic. Just pure skill, best player wins.
  8. Please add Dream team to Trial match local co-op Vs AI. Would be so much fun to test your Dream Team against the AI together with the kids or a friend on the couch beside you. Would love this mode if it would become available.
  9. Add local co-op in Events. Would be great if me and the kids could take on the events together. At least add it to the AI events. Then we would actually play them and not just sim them.
  10. Myleague local co-op. Add both local and online co-op into Myleague please. A reason to play it and win the league together with the kids 😀
  11. Make My League worth playing. 100.000GP for completing 38 matches and winning the league is very poor IMO. Add some skill trainers and raise the GP perhaps?
  12. Add all Goal Scorers, Assists and Passes made to Half Time and Full Time game stats. So we can quickly get the overview of which player cards performed well in both teams. That information would be highly appreciated.
  13. Contract renewal is way too expensive. Considering many players have paid plenty in real money to get the favourite players, and you only get to keep your player for 1 year. We are paying for this digital football Pokémon and we can't even use it as long as we would like. There should be more ways to get contract renewals, the periods should be longer, 3/6/9/12months and the price should be lower. Currently it's just irritating and another killing the fun factor.
  14. Make each playstyle worth using. And reward playing different type of formations. Instead of everyone using META 4 defenders and no wingers/LMF/RMF.
  15. Better & more expensive Point shop players. Can we please have some decent players? I'd gladly spend 50000-100000 pink points for a player if his stats are good. IMO there hasn't been an interesting player since Ferrer & Pires. Currently I don't see any use for points except contact renewal.
  16. Remove the GP cost for player reset. Having to wait for 2-3 months and then stressing for a few free weeks to retrain and test new builds doesn't make sense. GP is too valuable for me, I use it for Legacy Transfer and Contract renewal, and the few occasional GP buys for Events or hidden gems. I enjoy training players and trying out new builds, if free it would keep me logging in even when there is nothing else to do in the game.
  17. Reduce the cost for Legacy transfer. Getting your wanted skills and then transferring to your favourite player is one of the game aspects I really like. But 257,000 GP for one transfer is a lot and takes away much of the fun in Legacy transfer. You get 1 Mbappe for less than 2 Legacy transfer. I am always low on GP these days, and I think 100,000-150,000 GP would be reasonable for Legacy transfer for 1 skill.
  18. Legacy transfer of skills to POTW cards. If we could add 1-2 skills to the POTW the cards would be more interesting and I'd spend more coins spinning. We would get more varied and unpredictable squads instead of everybody using the same players. Most players know the good cards, what to expect from opponents cards and how to counter. Lets say you add some strong passing or shooting skills to a player usually weak in that aspect. The unpredicability would be awesome!
  19. Replace/delete added skills. Building players would be much more fun if I could replace a trained skill with another one using legacy transfer. Or just be able to delete an added skill. Perhaps my playstyle changes and I want Neymar to have Through passing instead of the previously added Long-range shooting.
  20. GP an option for pack spins. But it shouldn't be easy. Hard grind should be rewarded as it gives a reason to play the game. I am thinking 7,5M GP you get 75 spins in a 150 pack. That takes perhaps 6 months to grind. And perhaps the remaining 75 spins is coins only. Lower thresholds like 10 spins för 1M GP would be great but I understand its not gonna happen, as it would hurt the coin sales.
  21. Remove the 500 player cap or reduce cost of adding player slots. If you are grinding skill trainers with 0GP players and training players the 500 fills up quite easily. Or reduce the 500.000GP for an extra 50 players to maybe 100.000GP. This 500 player limit is very annoying and seems unnecessary.
  22. Add skill trainers and position trainers to each match pass. Would make the Match Pass way more interesting and I would spend coins.
  23. Make it worthwhile playing League / divisions. Currently I don't see much reason to play it. A few skill trainers and low GP reward can't motivate me spending the time.
  24. Find a way to prevent players from forfeiting games, at least events and co-op. Maybe if you are down a few goals sometimes add a random bonus like score with player X to receive 1 skill trainer, 10000 GP or something. Just to motivate players completing the match. Or create a non forfeit streak, like 10, 20 or 30 games without forfeit and you get an free extra POTW spin. (Credit: Part of this idea is from eFootball Universe Youtube)
  25. 1st celebration should also be skippable. It's just time consuming in online games. Not adding any value to except maybe noobs who scored their first goal ever.
  26. An option to make Sub tactic clearly visible in Game plan if activated. I played to many games now without knowing I had sub-tactic activated 😂
  27. Matchmaking. This was good for a while after the matchmaking update, but not anymore. There must be something seriously wrong here. When playing in Division 9 to 7, we constantly get division 1-2 opponents in the events. Had top 120 and top 200 in a row even. 750M downloads and nobody else playing. Really?
  28. The daily penalty needs an upgrade. Suggestion: More fun If I could choose player from my Dream Team. And add random Epic goalies to spice it up 😉
  29. Add statistics of headers, penalties and free kicks scored on each player card. This would add value and make it more interesting building squads. Konami you have the data, use it!
  30. More variety in Events. BBVA, Turkish, Brazilian Italian, English, Japan league. Over and over and over... Cmon Konami create something different so we can rotate our squads more. Suggestion: An event where only max 4 star players are allowed? Or higher GP rewards the weaker squad you use? (Credit: idea is partly from Rockchok Youtube)
  31. More Beat the Clock type of events. Both me and the kids enjoyed this one. Create something similar for skill moves. Example: Perform 5 Double touch + 5 Marseille turn across pitch with fixed dummies or defending players. Or a sequence where you have to perform skill move x and y before scoring.
  32. Objectives with extra bonuses. Add weekly objectives or similar. Score a hat-trick, win on penalties or score 5 times using skill move. And get some type of rewards, GP, Skill trainers, Position trainers, avatars, whatever just variety and something to play for.
  33. Co-op events. So much potential but the gameplay on rails, AI assistance and the constant random AI punishments kills the fun for me. You feel almost instantly if the AI assistance is on your side or against you. Either everything goes your way and it's too easy or Epics can't make a simple pass, the input lag kicks in and your player is even dragged out of position so the other team can score. Every game feels pre-decided with almost every touch being a mistake or fumble by the team who is supposed to concede a goal. Or its 1 goal back and forth with short sequences where the conceeding team can't touch the ball. In my experience the AI assistance is at its worst in the Co-op games. Quite easy to spot as players regularly just drop the controller. And game continues to auto defend like prime AC Milan, the non-active player is forcefielded holding the ball, every ball in the box is magically sucked to defenders feet and passes and clearings going 90-180 degrees off straight to opponent. Recent example which has happened in several co-op games: Goalie makes several stupid run outs to a perfect 4 man defending line, leaving the net wide open. Changing goalie doesn't help. Same thing with 2nd goalie until opponent gets his 2 goals. Sorry but when my player, gameplay and result is controlled by AI instead of me and my teammate I lose interest.
  34. Add 2nd local player to co-op events. Why can't 2 players join the co-op events together from one Playstation? Me and the kids would play co-op events a lot if this was possbile.
  35. Booster player forms. Wirtz card and several other are never on A-form. Whats the point of creating a booster card then? (credit: PES Pepe Youtube)
  36. Communication. Info on gameplay changes in each update would be appreciated. Like before. (credit: PES Pepe Youtube))
  37. Heavy first touch or fumble receiving the ball. +90 Ball control player cant receive a pass without starting to fumble or needing several seconds to gain control, then losing the ball, again and again and again. Does stats even matter when game balancing just decides anyway?
  38. Don't launch Crossplay with mobile. I suspect the recent braindead heavy assisted gameplay is needed for upcoming crossplay console & mobile update. This might be what we are getting. Gameplay on rails, autodefend, no skill, unrewarding, boring. I hope I am wrong and the previous fun gameplay on console is not gone forever 😢.
  39. Master League? Promised some years ago. I guess it does not generate enough coin sales?
  40. Edit mode. Create a custom crest and kits for our dream team.
  41. AI games are boring and inconsistent. Even on easier difficulties the dynamic game balancing makes you miss so many chances in 1st half, open goals whatever. Then in 2nd its just walk the ball into box and quick shot goal. But if you decide to pass the ball in the box then it's magnet to defender, why not reward passing in the box? The inconsistency in the AI is just bad. And the coding seems lazy. I watch our 11 year old play and do all the right things, but the game just kills all her self-created chances. On harder difficulties even if I read the play and position perfectly to intercept a pass, the pass goes straight through my defender. And adding to that the constant interceptions and not being able to hold ball more than 0.3sec. To my understanding the AI was better before without having to bypass game mechanics (cheat), instead it was actually playing smarter. For me playing the AI is either to easy once the early game "Thou shall not score" wears off or just boring on higher difficulties. How hard is it to develop AI gameplay which is both fun, rewarding and teaching how to play better?
  42. Player speed is broken. The slowest defender will catch up in 2-3 seconds with any attacker running with the ball. No matter stats of players. You make a great pass but this broken game mechanic ruins the opportunity. This is both unrealistic and highly unrewarding.
  43. Player switching. Another game mechanic which seems broken and with hidden punishments added. I have mostly been using semi-assist and player oriented switching, R stick to switch. Recently switched to ball-oriented. And in my experience. When the game is against you, it constantly punishes you with bad player switching and worst default player selection. Many times the game refuses to switch to player in front of ball when I am trying to defend. Instead I am flicking through the guys behind the attacking player, while I am trying to get control of my defender. When I have free kick against me, default player is always the worst possible option eg. my CF standing 10m behind the free kick taker. Why? I enjoy a challenge but having to fight with my controller is not one of them.
  44. Sort player list by team name. Would help when choosing team for events. And a nice feature when browsing all my players.
  45. Position trainers. This feature was a nice addition. But can be improved and made more interesting. (A) Remove the possibility of getting duplicates on full position slots. It's just stupid and annoying. (B) Add random playstyle rewards on the new position. So an AMF Hole Player could also be SS Deep Lying Forward after Position training. (Credit: efNuts YouTube)
Some of these are cosmetics and should be quite easy to implement, whereas others like new type of events takes more effort. Dream team in Trial mode and adding already existing local Co-op to more events/game modes shouldn't be that difficult. Gameplay affecting changes are likely hard and need to be tested so it doesn't affect game in a negative way.
I guess Konami calculates profits are better by pushing all players to online play. But at the same time they are neglecting the player group which prefers offline, and are willing to buy coins to get their favourite players cards. Hopefully Konami will reconsider, add a proper Master League and more offline modes with co-op and PvP.
All in all it should result in a more enjoyable experience for both ballers, casuals, squad-builders, card-collectors and those who just want offline couch co-op or PvP with their Dream team. More people having fun and spending time in the game usually results in praise, recommendations and growing user count = more coins spent. Konami keeps earning and customer base is happy. Everyone wins.
/ Cheers and thanks for reading

2024.05.18 13:08 2bubryan Whats wrong with my girlfriend?

Firstly, this isn’t about her being crazy or anything, and secondly, I dont even know if this is the right subreddit and i hope someone can direct me to the right one but here it goes:
Every single morning my girlfriend wakes up sick, like to the point where she has to rock herself back and forth to keep from throwing up (no, she’s not pregnant, this has gone on for the duration of our relationship and she’s still not pregnant AFAIK). The only thing that helps her is smoking weed, which, afterwards, she’s fine and goes about her day like normal, besides from headaches which i just attribute to her not drinking water, but rather mtn dew and red bull.
I personally don’t smoke but her ENTIRE family does, with the exception of her dad who only just stopped a month ago due to medical reasons, and she smokes with them during the day and also probably had to deal with weed smoke in the house while growing up, and she’s also told me she’s smoked daily since ~8th grade (we’re both 19)
Her mom said that her cousin’s mom (i think?) has a “flu virus that lasts your whole life” and that both my girlfriend and her mom and everyone else in the family has it, which i honestly think could just be a cop out to not get her tested for what she actually might have but thats just me. Also, if she doesn’t smoke in the morning, she’s sick all day and nothing can help her, and that sickness does involve actually throwing up and not just nausea. So, any guesses? Also, if not the right sub, please direct me to the right one

2024.05.18 12:49 Doctor_of_Puns Jacob Boehme and the Secret Doctrine - William Q. Judge

Jacob Boehme (or as some say Behmen) was a German mystic and spiritualist who began to write in the 17th century. In his works he inserted a picture of an angel blowing a trumpet, from which issued these words: "To all Christians, Jews, Turks and Heathens, to all the nations of the earth this Trumpet sounds for the last time." In truth it was a curious emblem, but he, the author, was a mystic, and as all experience shows, the path of the mystic is a strange one. It is, as Job says, a path which the "vulture knoweth not." Even as a bird cleaves the eternal ether, so the mystic advances on a path nor ordinarily manifest, a way which must be followed with care, because like the Great Light, which flashes forth and leaves only traces when it returns again to its centre, only indications are left for those who come after seeking the same spiritual wisdom. Yet by these "traces," for such they are called in the Kabbala, the way can be discerned, and the truth discovered.
Boehme was poor, of common birth, and totally devoid of ordinary education. He was only a shoemaker. Yet from the mind and out of the mouth of this unlettered man came mighty truths.
It would be idle to inquire into the complications of Karma which condemned him to such a life as his appeared to be. It must have been extremely curious, because though he had grasped the truth and was able to appreciate it, yet at the same time he could not give it out in its perfect form. But he performed his work, and there can be no manner of doubt about his succeeding incarnation. As Krishna says in the Bhagavad-Gita, he has been already or will shortly be "born into a family of wise devotees"; and thence "he will attain the highest walk."
His life and writings furnish another proof that the great wisdom-religion―the Secret Doctrine―has never been left without a witness. Born a Christian, he nevertheless saw the esoteric truth lying under the moss and crust of centuries, and from the Christian Bible extracted for his purblind fellows those pearls which they refused to accept. But he did not get his knowledge from the Christian Scriptures only. Before his internal eye the panorama of real knowledge passed. His interior vision being open he could see the things he had learned in a former life, and at first not knowing what they were was stimulated by them to construe his only spiritual books in the esoteric fashion. His brain took cognizance of the Book before him, but his spirit aided by his past, and perchance by the living guardians of the shining lamp of truth, could not but read them aright.
His work was called "The Dawning of the Eternal Day." In this he endeavors to outline the great philosophy. He narrates the circumstances and reasons for the angelic creation, the fall of its chief three hierarchies, and the awful effects which thereupon fell upon Eternal Nature. Mark this, not upon man―for he was not yet―but upon the eternal Nature, that is BRAHM. Then he says that these effects came about by reason of the unbalancing of the seven equipoised powers of forces of the Eternal Nature or Brahm. That is to say, that so long as the seven principles of Brahm were in perfect poise, there was no corporeal or manifested universe. So in the Bhagavad-Gita we find that Krishna tells Arjuna that "after the lapse of a thousand ages (or Night of Brahm) all objects of developed matter come forth from the non-developed principle. At the approach of that day they emanate spontaneously." (Bhagavad-Gita, Chap. 8. ) Such is the teaching of the Secret Doctrine.
And again Boehme shows the duality of the Supreme Soul. For he says in his work "Psychologia Vera cum Supplemento" that these two eternal principles of positive and negative, the yea and the nay of the outspeaking Supreme One, together constitute eternal nature,―not the dark world alone; which is termed the "root of nature,―" the two being as it were combined in perfect indissoluble union.
This is nothing else but Purush and Prakriti, or taken together, what is referred to in the Bhagavad-Gita where it is said: "But there is another invisible, eternal existence, superior to this visible one, which does not perish when all things perish. It is called invisible and indivisible. This is my Supreme Abode."
Clearly the Supreme Abode could never be in Purush alone, nor in Prakriti alone, but in both when indissolubly united.
This scheme is adhered to all through this great philosopher's works, no matter whether he is speaking of the great Universe or macrocosm, or of its antitype in man or microcosm. In "De Tribus Principiis" he treats of the three principles or worlds of Nature, describing its eternal birth, its seven properties, and the two co-eternal principles; and furthermore in "De Triplici Vita Hominis" he gives the three-fold life of man from which the seven is again deduced.
In "De Electione Gratia" he goes into a subject that often proves a stumbling block to many, and that is the inevitableness of evil as well as of good. From this it is easy to pass to a contemplation of one of the difficult points in occultism as shown in the Secret Doctrine, that nothing is evil, and that even if we admit evil or wickedness in man, it is of the nature of the quality or guna, which in the Bhagavad-Gita is denominated raja―foulness or bad action. Even this is better than the indifferent action that only leads to death. Even from wickedness may and does come forth spiritual life, but from indifferent action comes only darkness, and finally death.
Krishna says in Bhagavad-Gita, Chap. IV: "There are three kinds of action: first, that which is of the nature of Satyam, or true action; second, that which is of the nature of Raja, or bad action; third, that which is of the nature of Tamas, or indifferent action." He then says: "Although thou wert the greatest of all offenders, thou shalt be able to cross the gulf of sin in the bark of spiritual wisdom"; and a little farther on "The ignorant and man without faith, whose spirit is full of doubt, is lost and cannot enjoy either world." And in another chapter in describing Himself, he says that he is not only the Buddha, but also is the most evil of mankind or the Asura.
This is one of the most mystical parts of the whole secret doctrine. While Boehme has touched on it sufficiently to show that he had a memory of it, he did not go into the most occult details. It has to be remembered that the Bhagavad-Gita, and many other books treating on the Secret Doctrine, must be regarded from seven points of view; and that imperfect man is not able to look at it from the centre, which would give the whole seven points at once.
Boehme wrote about thirty different treatise, all of them devoted to great subjects, portions of the Secret Doctrine.
Curiously enough the first treated of the "Dawn of the Eternal Day," and the second was devoted to an elucidation of "The Three Principles of Man." In the latter is really to be found a sevenfold classification similar to that which Mr. Sinnett propounded in "Esoteric Buddhism."
He held that the greatest obstacle in the path of man is the astral or elementary power, which engenders and sustain this world.
Then he talks of "tinctures," which we may call principles. According to him there are two principles ones, the watery, and the igneous. These ought to be united in Man; and they ardently seek each other continually, in order to be identified with Sophia or Divine Wisdom. Many Theosophists will see in this a clue not only to the two principles―or tinctures―which ought to be united man, but also to a law which obtains in many of the phenomena of magic. But even if I were able, I should not speak on this more clearly.
For many inquirers the greatest interest in these works will be found in his hypothesis as to the birth of the material Universe. On the evolution of man from spirit into matter he has much more than I could hope to glance at. In nearly all of it he was outlining and illustrating the Secret Doctrine. The books indicated are well worthy of study not only by Western but also by Eastern metaphysicians.
Let us add a few sentences to support this hypothesis from Count Saint Martin, who was a devoted student of these works.
"Jacob Boehme took for granted the existence of an Universal Principle; he was persuaded that everything is connected in the immense chain of truths, and that the Eternal Nature reposed on seven principles or bases, which he sometimes calls powers, forms, spiritual wheels, sources, and fountains, and that those seven bases exist also in this disordered material nature, under constraint. His nomenclature, adopted for these fundamental relations, ran thus: The first astringency, the second gall or bitterness, the third anguish, the fourth fire, the fifth light, the sixth sound, and the seventh he called BEING or the thing itself."
The reader may have begun to think the author did not rightly comprehend the first six but his definition of the seventh shows he was right throughout, and we may conclude the real meanings are concealed under these names.
"The third principle, anguish, attenuates the astringent one, turns it into water, and allows a passage to fire, which was shut up in the astringent principle."
There are in this many suggestions and a pursuit of them will repay the student.
"Now the Divine Sophia caused a new order to take birth in the centre of our system, and there burned our sun; from that do come forth all kinds of qualities, forms and powers. This centre is the Separator." It is well known that from the sun was taken by the ancients all kinds of power; and if we mistake not, the Hindus claim that when the Fathers enter into Para-Nirvana, their accumulated goodness pours itself out on the world through the "Door of the Sun."
The Bhagavad-Gita says, that the Lord of all dwells in the region of the heart, and again that this Lord is also the Sun of the world.
"The earth is a condensation of the seven primordial principles, and by the withdrawal of eternal light this became a dark valley." It is taught in the East, that this world is a valley and that we are in it, our bodies reaching to the moon, being condensed to hardness at the point where we are on the earth thus becoming visible to the eye of man. There is a mystery in this statement, but not such an one as cannot be unravelled.
Boehme proceeds: "When the light mastered the fire at the place of the sun, the terrible shock of the battle engendered an igneous eruption by which there shot forth from the sun a stormy and frightful flash of fire―Mars. Taken captive by light it assumed a place, and there it struggles furiously, a pricking goad, whose office is to agitate all nature, producing reaction. It is the gall of nature. The gracious, amiable Light, having enchained unerupted Mars, proceeded by its own power to the bottom or end of the rigidity of Nature, when unable to proceed further it stopped, and became corporeal; remaining there it warms that place, and although a valet in Nature, it is the source of sweetness and the moderator of Mars.
"Saturn does not originate from the sun, but was produced from the severe astringent anguish of the whole body of this Universe. Above Jupiter the sun could not mitigate the horror, and out of that arose Saturn, who is the opposite of meekness, and who produces whatever of rigidity there is in creatures, including bones, and what in moral nature corresponds thereto." (This is all the highest astrology, from one who had no knowledge of it.) "As in the Sun is the heart of life, so by Saturn commenceth all corporeal nature. Thus in these two resides the power of the whole universal body, and without their power there could be no creation nor any corporification.
"Venus originates in effluvia from the Sun. She lights the unctuosity of the water of the Universe, penetrates hardness, and enkindles love."
"Mercury is the chief worker in the planetary wheel; he is sound, and wakes up the germs in everything. His origin, the triumph of Light over Astringency (in which sound was shut up silent), set free the sound by the attenuation of the astringent power."
It is certain that if this peculiar statement regarding Mercury is understood, the student will have gained a high point of knowledge. A seductive bait is here held out to those striving disciples who so earnestly desire to hold converse with the elemental world. But there is no danger, for all the avenues are very secret and only the pure can prevail in the preliminary steps.
Boehme says again: "The Mercury is impregnated and fed continually by the solar substance; that in it is found the knowledge of what was in the order above, before Light had penetrated to the solar centre."
As to the Moon, it is curious to note that he says, "she was produced from the sun itself, at the time of his becoming material, and that the moon is his spouse." Students of the story of Adam being made to sleep after his creation and before coats of skin were given, when Eve was produced from his side, will find in this a strong hint.
The above is not by any means a complete statement of Boehme's system. In order to do justice to it, a full analysis of all his works should be undertaken. However, it is sufficient if thoughtful minds who have not read Boehme, shall turn to him after reading this, or if but one earnest reader of his works, or seeker after wisdom, shall receive even a hint that may lead to a clearing up of doubts, or to the acquisition of one new idea. Count Saint Martin continually read him; and the merest glance at the "Theosophic Correspondence" or, "Man―His Nature, &.," of Saint Martin will show that from that study he learned much. How much more then will the Western mind be aided by the light shed on both by the lamp of Theosophical teachings.
"Let the desire of the pious be fulfilled."

Holding Fast to the Name of Christ. Revelation: Removing the Veil, Part 10.
Part 9 concluded with His Eminence saying: “We must remain faithful until the end of our lives and must be ready to suffer for our faith.”
***
We can’t neglect this point in the Gospel. Why? What, is God so strict that He doesn’t care that we’ll be burned, torn to pieces, tortured, and so on? It’s not that God is so cruel and wants us to be tortured. But if you love God, if you love someone or something, such love doesn’t waver, doesn’t diminish, doesn’t depend on circumstances. You love someone because you feel it and it gives meaning to your life. And the more you have the chance to express your life, the more you acquire fullness. But the expression of love isn’t when you receive or take, but when you give. Then love becomes complete and perfect. When you take, you feel bad, incomplete, because you take something from someone else—someone who either loves you or doesn’t. Someone who takes and feels satisfied doesn’t love. He loves himself, and says: “Look how wonderful it is: They give me things, they give me money, they give me what I need. It makes me very happy.” He’s unhealthy. We should like to give things. We should get joy from what we give away. Of course, if someone comes and brings you a gift, you might not need it, you might not want such a gift at all, but you accept the gift so as not to upset your friend, to bring him joy. When you receive it in order to please another, then you also rejoice. But if you accept it because it’s beneficial for you, then that’s greed. Holy Scripture says: It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). There’s much more grace and happiness when you give. When you give, then you truly find fullness in love. When we give our heart to God, our being, then we’re filled with love in God and we truly overcome death, the temporal, and all that is transient. Then man receives the crown of life from Christ.
Prophet David
The epistle to the Bishop of the Church of Smyrna concludes with the words: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the Churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death (Rev. 2:11). Christ often utters these words: He that hath an ear, let him hear. And that’s what He says here. We all have ears. Is there anyone among us without ears? We all have ears and we all hear. Even those who are hard of hearing and wear a hearing aid hear. But which of us hears? Do we truly hear? It’s a big question. I was horrified to see among Church people those who can be in church day and night, constantly listen to homilies and talks, trying not to miss a single feast, moleben, fast, vigil, and so on—but God forbid you should hear how they talk. God save us from such people. I say this with complete awareness. Such anger, such mental perversion (I don’t mean bodily or otherwise), such petrification and callousness can live inside a man. Why? Because egotism grows within him; he’s lacking in humility. But the Lord constantly repeats to us: He that hath an ear, let him hear. As the Prophet David says in Psalm 134, as we sing at the Polyeleos at Vigil: They have a mouth but shall not speak, eyes have they and shall not see. Ears have they and shall not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouth (vv. 16-17). Who is this about? About a man who has sensory organs but doesn’t hear, doesn’t speak, doesn’t see anything that’s happening around him. He’s trapped inside his greed and self-satisfaction. He’s satisfied with everything, he doesn’t care about his salvation, about his path to the Kingdom of God. He worries about nothing; everything is arranged for him. Of course, surprises await him.
And it concludes: He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death (Rev. 2:11). He who overcomes won’t be overcome by the second death. You see, there are two deaths. One death is the one we all pass through, the transition from this transitory life to eternity. We all pass through it—both the old and young, the great and small, the poor and rich, the important and insignificant. Whoever you are, you’ll pass through this gate. This has its own beauty, something kind and good. Death isn’t so terrible. The older I get, the more I understand what wisdom is concealed in death. Imagine if we lived here forever, what would become of us? Now we know that we’re going to die, but still, we try to devour others before they die. And if we thought we’d never die, what would we become? One death is the ordinary biological death, a physical phenomenon. It came to us after the fall of Adam, but nevertheless, death is in human nature. The second death is the separation of man from God. This is a terrible death—the separation of man from God, from Life itself. This second death is eternal hell, eternal punishment, suffering, pain, eternal torment. But those who overcome, who cope, who remain faithful unto death, will not suffer harm from the second death, spiritual death, although they will experience the first death.
This concludes what God wanted to say to the Bishop of the Church of Smyrna. A few years later came the fulfillment of what was said by the Holy Spirit—he received a martyr’s death. You see how beautifully it’s described here that God sees deeds, sorrows, and poverty. But the judgment of God is one thing, and the judgment of man another. One is the eyes of God, the other the eyes of man. For people, the Bishop of the Church of Smyrna was poor, unfortunate, and slandered, but in the eyes of God, he was rich, important, and recognized. Everyone around him rebelled against him, but God said to him: “Fear not,” because fear is not a manifestation of love. He who loves isn’t afraid, because the more people rebel against him and the more danger he faces, the more he can show his love, the more his love is perfected, the more he’s united with God. And whoever puts himself in the hands of God, trusting Him, doesn’t fear.
Often, people come who are going through very difficult times, and you tell them: “Put yourself in God’s hands.” They respond: “Yes, but, but, but…” Until you understand this, until you learn to put yourself in the hands of God, you will suffer from fear, from various fears. And you’ll be haunted by thousands of fears, you’ll be afraid of your own shadow; every day you’ll be afraid of what will come from here or what will come from there. You’ll run, take tests, undergo thousands of examinations, you’ll be afraid that all the diseases of this world are lying in wait for you, all the germs you’ve learned about or heard about somewhere will hunt you, and this fear will drive you crazy.

Put yourself in God’s hands. If you trust God then you’ll find peace. And no matter how much you resist and fuss, nothing will change. You won’t be able to calm down. Don’t be afraid, because you’re in God’s hands. That’s how you’ll learn to stay peaceful. That’s the secret. Those of us who are afraid, who are covered by these fears, must learn this secret, must learn this key—putting ourselves in God’s hands. Then our fears will go away and we’ll calm down. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have an easy life, that everything will be great for you, that you’ll wake up every morning with a smile. No. You’ll go through tribulations, but God will see your tribulations. And your tribulations will last “ten days,” not indefinitely. Perhaps you’ll die, God will let you die, He won’t save you from death; He’ll let you be torn into a thousand pieces. But we’re not looking for deliverance from this. In any case, the first death awaits everyone. If you escape this time, you’ll die another time. Those who rose from the dead died: Lazarus rose, but he died again; others were healed and then died; they all died. Fear the second death. Think about it, about separation from God, the true Life. This is a real problem.
The second lesson we learn from this, which is constantly being talked about, is whether we hear what God is talking about. Are our ears open? If our ears were open and we truly heard the word of God, would we really be who we are? Would we live the way we live? Would we think the way we think? Would we be deceitful, avaricious, merciless, cruel, inhuman, would we justify ourselves and our cruelty, our insensitivity and a thousand other things that we justify in ourselves just to avoid taking one step towards virtue? The truth is that people who have opened their ears and heard the word of God have made a leap in their lives, while the rest of us are treading water. We run, run, run, but we’re running in place. Actually, it would be good if we stayed in place, but it turns out that we’re rolling backwards. But we think we’re running.

Let’s move on to the next bishop. We said that we would read quickly to see the full picture, all the terrible things that are described in Revelations. We’re still at the beginning and making our way—the most terrifying thing is yet to begin. And to the angel of the Church in Pergamos write; These things saith He Which hath the sharp sword with two edges (Rev. 2:12). Pergamos is another city of Asia Minor. St. Antipas, a martyr, was the Bishop of Pergamos. He received a martyric end before Revelation was written, around the year 85. Revelation was written later. The sharp sword with two edges is the word of God. The sword cuts from both sides; it’s sharp—it’s not some knife that doesn’t cut. It penetrates into the depths of humanity. I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast My name, and hast not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth (Rev. 2:13). In Pergamos, idolatry was very prevalent—shameless idol worship and the terrible persecution of Christians. The Lord says to him: “I know your deeds, I know where you live and that the throne of Satan is there.” Imagine what it’s like to live where Satan has his throne, how hard it is. Christ says that Antipas holds fast His name.
Let’s focus on these words. We are the people of the Church, although I don’t really like this expression. But let’s say it so it’s clear—we carry this “label”—“Church people.” He’s a Christian, he goes to church, and we, the clergy, moreover, in our cassocks, immediately become a point of attraction: Someone comes to get a blessing, another spits at us, another kisses our hands, and another insults us. That’s how we are. It’s good. You see the theater of this world. One man sees you and runs to kiss your hand, and another sees and spits at you. To hold fast to the name of God is both a blessing and a confession. You have to be ready to give an answer for everything you do. I made a mistake, I said something that people didn’t like; something happened in the Church with the bishop, with the patriarch; you have to give an answer. Even children have to.
I was impressed that young children in elementary school are already fasting, and other children laugh at them: “Oh, you’re fasting!” Or a child finds himself somewhere where they don’t fast, and he tries to keep the fast. Or children from a Christian family don’t go to the carnival, and they become a victim, they’re mocked, provoked, and they, little children, hold fast to the name of God. It’s a blessing, but also a struggle. And we have to respect this. It’s a great honor for us to bear the name of Christ, but at the same time, it’s a martyrdom, because we have to be ready at any moment to go twenty feet, and everyone will say what they think of us. We can be insulted, covered in mud from head to toe. “You’re a Church person and you get irritated? Are you allowed to say such things?” Bearing the name of God is a blessing, it’s martyrdom, and it’s confession. To hold fast the name of God is a blessing; it’s martyrdom, and it’s a confession.
And hast not denied My faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. You see, the Lord is speaking here about Antipas, the Bishop of Pergamos, in whose honor we’re building a church in Pentakomo. He’s a great saint of our Church, one of the first saints. Christ calls him “my faithful martyr Antipas.” He was killed by people living where satan dwells. Satan killed him. You see, it seemed that satan won—he killed a bishop, although Antipas is alive with God, a faithful witness. But despite all this, the Lord also says something accusatory.
Do you see how clear the word of the Lord is? Despite the good that you have, which is very important and correct, I have a little against you—those things that defile you, your deeds that are not good. What was that? But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate (Rev. 2:14-15). There were Nicolaitanes, who followed the teachings of Balaam. I told you there was a heresy in the first years of Christianity that was introduced by Deacon Nicholas, one of the seven deacons of the Church, who became a heresiarch and wrought confusion in the Church with his perverted, heretical ideas.
Balaam is mentioned in the Old Testament. He was a magician, a false prophet, who was thought to have great power. He cursed some, and his curses befell those people, while he blessed others, and they triumphed. He was invited by one of the kings, who was from another family, to destroy the Israelites. Balaam started saying he couldn’t do anything with the Israelites because God was with them. And since God was with them, he couldn’t send a curse on them. And this magician, who knew the satanic arts, told the king, “I know what you should do with them. Since God is with them, no one will be able to defeat them, because God is covering them. To defeat them, they’d have to throw off the protection of God. What do you have to do to make this happen? Invite them to dinner and feed them with food sacrificed to idols; let them eat meat sacrificed to idols. Let them drink wine, eat well, and then leave them there to fall into carnal sins, and thus they will drive the grace of God from their souls, and you’ll be able to defeat them.” That’s what he did. They ate the food sacrificed to idols, fornicated, they drove God’s grace away, and they fell into subjection to foreigners.
Balaam and the Angel, Gustav Jaeger
Similarly, in Pergamos, amongst the flock of St. Antipas, there were adherents of the teachings of the Nicolaitanes, whom he accepted and didn’t condemn, didn’t separate from his flock, and they infected the rest of the people of the Church. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth (Rev. 2:16). “I will fight them with My word.” Often the Lord appears with a sword coming out of his mouth. It’s a double-edged sword—the word of God, absolutely clear and pure, penetrating to the very depths of human anatomy. “That’s how I will clean them. But if you, as a bishop, don’t repent and don’t do what you have to do, if you don’t divide them from the rest, don’t help them repent and come to their senses, if you leave them to defile other people, then I will come to you.”
And He concludes: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the Churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it (Rev. 2:17). The Lord again repeats: He that hath an ear, let him hear. Christ promises to give the hidden manna, that sweet, very nutritious food that the Lord gave the Jews in the desert. And this manna is from Christ Himself, manna from Heaven. He’ll also give a white stone with a new name written on it. “I’ll make him who overcomes a new man, I’ll give him a new name.” And this can only be perceived and felt by those who are worthy to receive both manna from Heaven and a new name, who will be clothed in the new name. Thus concludes the epistle to the Bishop of the Church of Pergamos.
To be continued…

2024.05.18 12:37 cryingmyselftostress is studying in ntu/nus really more stressful than studying abroad? is the difference that big?

I got offers from
king’s and edinburgh in the uk
NUS and NTU in sg
and also i can apply to study in usyd/unimelb/monash in australia.
i come from a top jc (COP 4 for my year) and im honestly done w the hypercompetiveness & the obsession w grades in sg. i thus want to branch out and study abroad??? im sick of sg’s education system. like everything people do is for the stupid portfolio, and if I want any opportunities (Eg an exchange programme), im gonna have to fight for it. and Im honestly sick of this.
but i do realise that these cities are pretty prejudiced against east asians (i’m singaporean-chinese) and i don’t want to pay so much to feel shitty about my own race and accent? also the last I visited these cities seemed v segregated (like I wouldn't really see East Asian people mingling w everyone else) & I've read reddit posts from the locals specifically wanting to avoid 'the asian international students'
so now i’m thinking whether the illusion that uni education will be easiemore holistic in these places
(like is the uni experience really much better in these places???)
is worth the potential racism, poorer social life & poorer self-esteem that may come w studying abroad.
and yes ik there are heaps of singaporeans and people from hongkong there but if i’m paying 40-50k to study abroad i’d want a more international experience + I wouldn't want to be treated like a second tier citizen all because im from south east Asia.
and i also know that brown people get it A LOT worse in singapore, so I shouldn't be complaining, but then again this is not a competition, and racism is unfortunately real and rife in every city including singapore.
ngl I think that the US would be a better option for me, but I missed the deadline and I don't want to take a gap year. so im now left w these options.
thanks

TL;DR: he considers me his perverted friend; is desperately in need of cash, but, thoughtful as he is, give me a whole 48-hour time limit - see, this is why we're friends. Very considerate of him. Enjoy what has to be the funniest reason for which I've ever overzealously popped an anti-stress pill in my life. Proudly sponsored by pEgA-susssssss

"Hello pervert (you always know just the right things to say, sweetie), I've sent this message from your iCloud mаil. I want to inform you about a very bad situation for you( \(oOo)/ oh nooooooooo). However, you can benefit from it, if you will act wisеly. (Show me the goods first, Lebowski, then we can talk business).
Have you heard of Pegasus? (Hype Train Hype Train Hype Train!) This is a spyware program that installs on computers and smartphones and allows hackers to monitor the activity of device owners. It provides access to your webcam, messengers, emails, call records, etc. It works well on Android, iOS, and Windows. I guess, you already figured out where I’m getting at (Reminds me of a stalker ex tbh)
It’s been a few months since I installed it on all your dеviсеs because you were not quite choosy about what links to click on the intеrnеt. During this period, I’ve learned about all aspects of your private life, but оnе is of special significance to me. (My proclivity to ordering food from restaurants so close by that I may as well pick them up? Fair play, fair play)
I’ve recorded many videos of you jerking off to highly controversial роrn videos (oh, so not the food thi- okay then we're fine forget what I wrote before). Given that the “questionable” genre is almost always the same, I can conclude that you have sick реrvеrsiоn (how dare he. I happen to think floss is a VERY versatile product capable of incredibly wondrous things!) I doubt you’d want your friends, family and co-workers to know about it (I wouldn't. This knowledge would cause floss demand to skyrocket, the new essential-grade item on shelves). However, I can do it in a few clicks. Every number in your contact Iist will suddenly receive these vidеоs – on WhatsApp, on Telegram, on Instagram, on Facebook, on email – everywhere. It is going to be a tsunami that will sweep away everything in its path, and first of all, your fоrmеr life. Don’t think of yourself as an innocent victim.
No one knows where your реrvеrsiоn might lead in the future, so consider this a kind of deserved рunishmеnt to stop you. I’m some kind of God who sees everything. However, don’t panic. As we know, God is merciful and forgiving, and so do[am] I. But my mеrсy is not free.

I love you so. and I want you to know, that I am gonna miss your love. the minute you walk out that door.)
You can be sure – my benefit is only money (This relationship was never meant to be ig). Otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing to you ( :( ), but destroy your life without a word in a second ('0'). I’ll be notified when you open my email, and from that moment you have exactly 48 hours to send the money.
If cryptocurrencies are unchartered waters for you, don’t worry, it’s very simple. Just google “crypto exchange” or "buy Litecoin" and then it will be no harder than buying some useless stuff on Amazon.
I strongly warn you against the following:
* Do not reply to this email. I've sent it from your iCloud mail. (arite bet)
* Do not contact the police. I have access to all your dеviсеs, and as soon as I find out you ran to the cops, videos will be published. (lel doesn't take a phone to walk to a police station, dumbo)
* Don’t try to reset or destroy your dеviсеs.
[*clause that I think would be better: Don't paste this email into Google to find the other 20 million copies posted on scam alerts. I'm watching, Wazowski, always watching]
As I mentioned above: I’m monitoring all your activity, so you either agree to my terms or the vidеоs are рublished. Also, don’t forget that cryptocurrencies are anonymous, so it’s impossible to identify me using the provided аddrеss. Good luck, my perverted friend. I hope this is the last time we hear from each other. And some friendly advice: from now on, don’t be so careless about your online security."
I have half a mind to trace this back myself. thought we were over these infantile sexploitation scams.

2024.05.18 11:51 throwaway183746289 finally feeling good

this reddit account is basically my diary and i can write longer posts than on my twitter so, even if this isn’t exactly the right subreddit, for once im making a slightly more positive post.
Ive never been the outgoing, cool, walk-into-a-room-and-everyone-says-hi kinda girl. Never been someone whose name is mentioned in the rooms they aren’t in. I’ve always been so anxious and kept to myself so much i could probably be clinically considered selectively mute.
In a class at the end my senior year, a girl i had sat next to all year and had been going to school with for 7 years (and i briefly sat with at lunch in 6th grade), asked me what my name was. A girl came up to me in a class once after a presentation and told me she “didn’t know i could speak that loud”. My supervisor came up to me after 3 months of employment and said “i don’t think i’ve ever heard you say a word”. In a meeting where we had to write strengths and weaknesses of our peers, every single one of them wrote i needed to speak up more.
People don’t realize the kind of struggle it is. It’s not that i’m quiet for fun! I’m quiet because I am thinking about everything all of the time. It’s just how my brain works. I need to collect all of the information. I need to process all of the information. I need to analyze every second of every day and if there’s nothing new then i’m thinking about every thing that has ever happened to me. And i think that’s how i ended up how i am.
I’ve struggled with depression since i can remember. I was a happy enough kid, but some sort of darkness consumed me. I was a chronic over-thinker (and still am). I’ve been suicidal for years. It comes in waves, but there’s a constant voice somewhere in there telling me there’s no other way out of this. To me, the worst part is that there is no single traumatic event i can link any of this to. It’s all just some sort of genetic mishap or some crossed wire. That part consumes me; no one to blame, nothing that could have been done different, no other way this could have turned out.
I turned 19 this past year. From 14 onward, i told myself i wouldn’t make it to adulthood. Then i made it to adulthood, and it turned to “i won’t make it to graduation”. Then i made it to graduation. And now it’s been another year. Every tomorrow has been a question of today.
Something changed recently. Once again, no single event to tie it to. Maybe it was getting hit in the head by a basketball by some kid at work, or swinging at the park with my childhood best friend, a pot of kraft mac and cheese made with a little extra love.
I started talking!
I started speaking up about things that i notice, and people actually appreciated it. i learned how to make small talk. (kinda). it was really had pushing through the extremely thick walls i had built. but i think it’s paying off!
Now i can think past tomorrow. I’ve been working towards a career, figuring out what’s going to work for me and what i can work towards. I’ve been doing interviews, and the people around me are truly supporting me in ways i never imagined.
I look at the past and pick it apart bit by bit and it feels like nothing has changed. But i stood back and took a good long look at the whole picture. And everything is different. I hope it keeps changing.

Fragments of chapter 2:
Naruto put on his usual orange jumpsuit he wore and Kichiro would wrap around hos neck like a little scarf. No one would notice as it was usually chilly this time of the year. Now Naruto made his way downstairs to head out the door. He passed his family along with Jiraya and Tsunade who was having breakfast, Kushina called out. "Naru-chan? Where are you going?". Naruto turned around to see the whole family look at him in confusion but Menma just glared at him. "Its your siblings birthday breakfast! You should be eating and spending time with them" Minato said with a smile which pissed Naruto off heavily.
"You do realize that it's not just their birthday, don't you? It's also my birthday as well...." Naruto said, clenching his teeth in anger. The whole family minus Naruko and Menma was shocked to the core. They forgot all about Naruto. They were so focused on the Naruko and Menma that Naruto wasn't even a thought. "S-Sure we did, Sochi! We planned of giving Naruko a birthday breakfast, Menma a birthday lunch and you a birthday dinner!" Kushina said with Minato going along with her. Naruto watched all of them in their faces and spoke. "I'm not a dumbass you know. You pulled that out of your ass so fast, you digested the alphabet and shat out that piece of fuckery you called an idea!" Naruto said, heading out the door while hearing Tsunade open her mouth.
"You brat! Apologize to your parents! That was uncalled for!" She yelled. Naruto just scoffed as he left, not opting to stay and hear his mother sniffles and sobbs. Just how bad did they mess this up? Meanwhile, Naruto quickly makes it to his favorite training grounds, the Forest of Death. Once they got their, Kichiro hopped off Naruto's shoulders and landed in front of him. "Okay Naruto! Whats up now?" Kichiro asked. Naruto smiled in glee as he but his finger. "Time to work on my Kenjutsu..... Summoning Jutsu!" He shouted out and slammed his hand on the ground to summon Takeo. The fox itself smiled evily at the
two. "Get ready for your daily tortue routine!" That caused Naruto to
cringe.
"Here! Take this!" Takeo unsealed a wooden sword from his scroll he pulled out and threw it at Naruto. "A bokken? Why not a real sword?". Takeo raised an eyebrow at him. "Are you stupid? When growing up. before knowing how to walk, did you start trying to run and ride bikes and climb trees?". After seeing the blonde shake his head, he spoke. "Then You will have to learn to fight with this before you even think if touching a real sword, kit. Now, let me teach you the katas!" Takeo said es Naruto started training with the bokken without second thought
while Kichiro watched for a few hours
Alter that though, Takeo stopped. "Someone is coming, Naruto. It was a short session so I'll make sure to double your training next we meet Takeo said as he disappeared, only getting Naruto to shake in uncomfortabile, Naruto sighed as Kichiro jumped on his shoulders and Naruto tied the bokken to his shoulders which was the time Two ANBLU came to him. One was a weasle and the other was a dog and the latter spoke "Namikaze-sama, Hokage-sama has requested your presence at the Uzumaki-Namikaze residence.... Naruto frowned. 'Whats this about? They never tried this before? I'm getting a bad feeling from this. Kurama, "Me too kit.....but go anyway! Your "father" has already called for you' Kurama growled.
Naruto sighed as he spoke. "I'll be there" he said as he began to move. "We'll take you there immediately Weasel said as he put a hand on Naruto's shoulder and the three Shunshin to make it in front of the Hokage's mansion which was full of villagers and clans members of Konoha. He sighed as the meade his way through the villagers but once he made his way to the front door to enter, a tipsy villagee stopped him. "Hey!! Y-You're that brat... the N-amikaze ghost c-child!" He said getting a few people attention. Naruto started to grit his teeth. "Yes, that is me What of it, are you going to stop me from entering my own home?" He
said in distain, having to call this place his home.
"Are Y-You threatening me?! You little shit" "Are threatening the
Hokage-sama's son? That is at least punishable by treason!" Weasle
said with an edge. "N-N-No sir 1-1-1 apologize the villagee said as he
drunkily moved aside to allow them to pass. Naruto frowned as he
made his way inside the house with Weasle and Dog following. "You did
not have to do that, ANBU-san. I had it under control". "Be that as
may, Namikaze-sama, I must assure your safety no mattee the cost he
said as they made it into the living area where mostly everyone was.
"Naruto! You little gremlin! Where have you been?!" Kushina said while
Naruko and Menma were behind her.
"I was out training. Thats why I was so late" he respond "Ha! You? Training? Oh please, idiot! You couldn't even throw a Kunai right yet you're training?! Leave it to the professionals, loser" Menma insulted causing the whole party to laugh. Naruto just watched him in an uncaring attitude. To hirn, Menma was a dumbass. Nothing more, nothing less. "Come one Nii-san! Let's open our presents!" Naruko said grabbing Naruto's hand to pull him but Naruto ripped it away. "What presents? You two have presents, /don't. Go ahead an open them, I don't care anymore...." He said looking to the side. The room went silent. They also had forgotten about Naruto but vowed to themselves they would buy or whip up something later, feeling utterly bad about the poor boy.
As Naruko and Menma moved to the table where a pile of presents were, Naruto was being harassed by the villagers and smaller clans that wish the boy a happy birthday and promises of presents from them soon. Naruto knew why they did that, it was to get in better graces with his parents so he just told them to stop with the promises and the leave him the hell alone. Menma and Naruko were just bursting their gifts with glee and obtained new awesome stuff like Kunai, shuriken, etc. Then The godparents came up next with big scrolls.
"Menma, I want you to sign the Toad sammoning scroll, you'll be training under them from here on out!" He said. Tsunade went to Naruko. "And You, Naruko-chan, you will sign the Stug contract and train under them!". The two grinned like idiots and signed the scroll with glee with Naruto watching them. "Heh! You know, if you hadn't given me the fox summoning contract, I'd be rather jealous, ya know he said to the fox, I know, you're welcome kit! Kurama said. "Umm...could. Nii-san sign it too?". Jiraya and Tsunade both widened their eyes in shock. Oh crap/forgot about Naruto! If he signs the Toad/Slug contract, I can hold this over Tsunade's/Jiraya's head for a while! They both thought.
"Yeah sure!" They both said as they raced to Naruto, who was just sitting in a chair in the far side of the room with his eyes closed, hoping that this'll all end soon. He opened one eye to see Jiraya and Tsunade standing in front of him with grins on their faces and scrolls in their hands. "What?" He asked, "Naruto, I present to you the privilege to sigال the Toad contract!" Jiraya smiled. "No way! Naruto! You should sign the Slug contract! Its a way better option for you!" She said with a beautiful smile. The crowd laughed at the actions of the two Sannin. Minato smiled. I hope Naruto picks the Toads, that was my contract when training with Jiraya-Sensei!" He thought
Sochi, please pick the slugs! If you do, me, you and your sister can work together and be closer Kushina thought. Since this morning, Kushina thought about all the times her family has ever done anything with her eldest and when she drew upon none, she ran to the family photos to barely see any pictures of Naruto. She broke down crying in the photo album, she couldn't believe they ignored her baby so much of his life. What is his favorite food? Colour? Hobby? Did he have friends? All these things she didn't know, she knew Menma's and Naruko's but nothing of Naruto. He was like a stranger to her and she hated it. She vowed from then that she would change. So she was hoping she could start with his contract summoning. But when Naruto said his next words, shocked not
only her But the entire party was shocked.
"No, I'd rather not sign either" he said. "W-What? What do you mean you'd rather not?!" Tsunade yelled. "Kid, you do realize that this type of thing comes around once in a blue moon, right?" Jiraya said, "I know but I would rather not, I already have a caple contract". That widened everyones eyes. "Oh yeah?! With who?" Menma said, calling his bluft. Naruto smiled as he but his finger and ran through the hand seals.
"Summoning Jutsul" He shouted as he slammed his hand down and sooner or later, Sonya appeared. "Naruto-kun! You called me? Is there anything could do for you?" She said with usual kindness in her voice.
Everyone around was shocked to their very core. Naruto had the fox contract. This is unbelievable. "No, Sony-chan, just probing a point. You can go now and tell Takeo-Sensei I'm sorry about the interrupted training and we'll continue soon!" He said. Sonya nodded and puffed. out of their plain. "N-N-Naruto? Where did you get that contract?"
Minato asked. "I found it off a deceased shinobi in the Forest Of Death! go there from time to time to train" he said. Menma frowned he marched in front of Naruto, "Give me the scroll, I wanna sign it!", Naruto chuckled and slapped Menma's cheek soft but firm, "Even if I wanted to, I can't it's not up to me! So.....sorry" he said as he passed. Menma and made his way upstairs. "Sochi, don't you want to stay for cake? Please, let's enjoy this time as a family!" Kushina said with a loving smile.
Naruto stayed silent. He felt his chakra flare but he couldn't suppress it in time or in simple words, he didn't try to. He turned to this 'family and guests and spoke. "Family? Family is a strange word to me, it even sounds funny when I say it. Family......Family. It sounds like it doesn't belong in my mouth concerning you guys. Family, thats the most terrifying thing to call this piece of shit group" Naruto said as he ran upstairs in a hurry to go to bed. Once the door slammed Kushina broke down in tears. "He hates us! I knew it!" She said as she ran upstairs to cry. Minato sighed. "Party's over everyone! Thank you for coming but I kindly ask that you All exit, please!" He said as the room cleared out. As soon as it did, Minato made it upstairs to comfort his wife while Merma
and Naruko stayed downstairs
Nii-san....why? Can't you see we love you and we're sorry? She thought
as tears streamed down her face as she cleaned up from the party.
Menma growled. Stupid idiot! Making mom cry! I'll show that worthless
loser he thought as he vowed to make Naruto pay, one way or another.

2024.05.18 11:39 For3verSoph RISING STAR: AGGIE BEEVER-JONES

The young striker started her first professional contract with the club in July 2021. Aggie Beever-Jones put pen-to-paper on a two year deal. A rising player of the Chelsea Academy, Beever-Jones made her senior debut for the Blues in a 4-0 away win against Aston Villa in the 2020/21 campaign. In the same season, Beever-Jones was handed her first start for Chelsea in a 5-0 victory over London City Lionesses in a Women’s FA Cup fourth-round tie.
The young 18 year old striker spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Championship side Bristol City, where she succour the team to a third-place finish in the second tier. Beever-Jones later then joined the Women's Super League team Everton, on a loan in August 2022. In which during that time there she made 21 appearances and scored one goal. With Everton placing 10th that season.
Beever-Jones scored her first senior Chelsea goal in the 2023/24 season coming on as a substitute in a home win over Brighton. The 20 year old star has scored a total of 11 goals for the Blues.
At the end of 2023 year, she signed a new contract with the Blues until the summer of 2026, with an option to extend and stay for a further year with Chelsea.
Aggie Beever-Jones has made 16 appearances for the blues with a total of 649 minute playing time. She has currently made 6 starts for the Blues. On the 31st January, Beever-Jones made her first debut start in the Champion League against Paris Football Club. Helping to secure an important 4-0 win.
The exciting announcement was made on the 14th May that Aggie Beaver-Jones ha gotten her first senior call up to be involved with the Lionesses. Emma Hayes the Chelsea Manager exclaimed in the press conference the night before playing in critical game against Tottenham saying: "I’m proud that a club like ours wants to develop players. She's been with us since she was eight, she been on a journey and gone on loan to different clubs. Now she has come back here and the effort she put in for the shirt in that Bristol game was unbelievable. She set the tone for the team from the front and it is no more than she deserves. She's in this position on merit. She's in the squad here at Chelsea with world-class players and she's competing week in week out. She's a really warm character, really likeable, but she's really resilient. She's always asking what she needs to do to get better but she has the goal threat. You can't teach that. She's got a goal threat anywhere around the box, whether she plays at the sides or down the middle. I spoke to her this morning and I don't think she can quite believe it. She's chuffed and so are we because there's nothing better than one of your own making it."
Beever Jones will be part of Sarina Wingman's senior squad for the upcoming Euro 2025 qualifying double header against France at Newcastle on the 31st May and once more at Saint-Etienne on the 4th June.

2024.05.18 11:19 Superfluouspedal My GF is currently residing at a mental hospital and I cant help bring resentful

So, this is a long one:
The story begins about 4 months ago, as me M33 and GF 32 were preparing the christening of our baby boy, of almost a year old(We'd postponed due to me being away working a military contract for 6 months).
In the weeks leading up to the event, my GF started hearing from her younger half brother, 15. Her parents divorced when my GF was young. Dad had another child with his new wife. Despite my GF being 18 years older, shes is very close to her brother.
Which was a bit out of the ordinary, as that family are basically recluses, and dont reach out for anything. My GF will almost have to force the issue of a visit whenever we travel down to their parts.
We could tell he was building up to something. but stopped each time before actually telling her whats up. The week before the christening his mother called my GF amd told her that her brother had expressed a sincere desire to end his own life, The following week, a whole bunch of family, including my GF's dad, his wife and my GF's half brother traveled to our part of the country to attend our sons event. and this is where things really kicked off.
The Dads wife, who I will refer to as NB from here on out had gone completely off the rails. She would pester my gf, me. and anyone who'd listen in the immediate vicinity about her son.
What's the issue with that? you may be thinking, shes distraught about her son? two issues:
  1. She'd do it while her son was in earshot.
  2. I always suspected her to be a narcissist, and not in the way bitter chicks describe everyone of their exes, I do mean a full blown narcissist. This was more or less confirmed in the WAY she was speaking about the issue.
She would only talk about how this affected HER, how good of a mom she had been, and it couldnt possibly be anything she'd done. This got worse over the next days and weeks. She started this days before they came up, over the phone to my GF.
During the days right before and after, we had little bro live with us at our apartment, so he could have a break from his parents, and talk to some other adults about what was going on. We had long talks with him, both together and me and him seperately(man to man). It turns out he's been bullied severely over quite some time, and there is something else that in addition happened to him which he refused to tell, and is stil l refusing to. He also had no friends remaining, and has been more or less isolated at school. Grades slipping, and at home he has a mother who refused to aknowledge that her son is struggling, let alone lift a finger to help him. His dad is just whipped into submission and cant or wont do or say anything.
Now, and important part of the story, is that my GF work for the government specifically dealing with childrens rights, specifically in the school system. Her org has the final say on whether or not any given school has allocated enough resources to a struggling child or not. They also have the power to force the issue if the school board/management is dragging their feet, or have exuses as she likes to put it.
This is the reason why NB contacted my GF on this issue, as she has considerable expertise in the area.
TLDR so far: GF's brother needs help, My GF can help due to her job, We decide to:
The day after our sons christening, we met with little bro's parents and extended family. Both me and my GF took leaves of absence from work, booked flights and traveled down to her mom and stayed there for weeks.
We had little bro stay with us there for the first week. During this my GF involved her self with the school, her brothers specialists and got the necessary balls and offices rolling. Basically taken over the entire process of getting her brother help with the school, getting more resources allocated to helo him. Had him see a team of psychologists that specializes on kids in his situation on a weekly basis. This was all necessary due to the fact that the parents had done nothing. I would take the kid out to the gym, hiking, climbing and talk to him. All in an effort to give him an arena of mastery and personal control.
The second week, we stayed at NB's house in order to be closer to his shcool as my GF where attending some meetings with both management and the bureaucratic level above(her colleges from that the country). I stayed at home, and really got a good look at the family dynamics that house. We've visited before for a day or two before on several occasions and witnessed some controlling and down right bizarre behavior from NB in the past, but always chaulked it up to her being a bit of an eccentric and about as smart as a boiled pea. However, what we witnessed this time was someone gone completely off the rails, shed scream at her husband in front of me and my son, hurl accusations of him being unfaithful and even him SAing his son, me and the GF supposedly plotting with family members on her side, who we've never actually met, tot ale her son from her, and a whole lot other nonsense. Dad being whipped into oblivion, stood there and took it, saying nothing.
We left the house, took little bro with us, and stayed with GFs mom the next 11 days. We drafted a message to childrens services in conjunction with other members of extended family who had witnessed NBs behavior during the christening.
During this entire process my GF was stressed out with concern with her brother, and having to talk to that sociopath dayly didn't help either, as she was subtly and gradually being eaten up NB. We talked many times about it. I reminded her time and time again not to take anything NB said at face value. My MIL did the same, every day. We reminded her that she'd done all she could for her brother and now she needed to drop it and let the experts sort it out. Shortly after we went back home,.but my GF was still trapped in her own head with thoughts about her brother,.NB and her brothers supposed SA. It got worse and worse, despite me, close friends and colleagues talking with her, she refused to listen and let the experts handle it. I talked to childrens services a few weeks later and confirmed that they'd started an investigation. I relayed this to GF and payed for another session with a shrink for her. She would come out of the session feeling better, more calm and accepting, only to dive head long into her brothers case as soon as she came home.
I finally told her that enough is enough, you are neglecting your own son. You have been told hundreds of times at this point to take a step back and let the professionals handle this. Your son is crying at your feet while you are on your computer or phone with this thing.
She looked down at her crying son, and I thought se finally realized what she was doing. We had a talk about it and things seemed to better for a week or so, then I had to leave for a military exercise for about 4 days. I thought she was good, and none of her friends or colleges gad reach olled out to me and told me anything about her involving herself again (as they and me had agreed to).
When I got home the following week, I came home to a house in a state of chaos, dishes overflowing, clothes everywhere, laundry hamper full and a son who hadn't bathed in 3 days.
I again sent her to a shrink, and a few close friends helped by talking to her about her priorities, reminding her about her son, and that the professionals where handling little bros situation. She seem to accept this again, except I found her several times sitting on her phone or computer in the middle of the night. The following days she stopped eating, she stopped sleeping, and started showing signs of manic behavior, such as staying in our bedroom in the middle of the day, masturbating 14 times(all in a bid to try to satisfy a growing need for control of just something)And the following Sunday I had no choice to have her admitted.
She is at the facility now, she's going to be there for a long time, and I can't visit her without her relapsing back into trying to talk about, or having me do something about her brother. She doesn't even notice her boy when she's like that.
Now here I am, alone in our apartment with my boy, having lost my security clearance over this thing, my contract is up for renewal, but without the clearance they pulled three offers. I am now unemployed, can't continue my side business due to the hours as a single father without daycare options at the moment. I am officially on sick leave due to this, Wich should keep us a float in the short term.
But I have essentially lost my family, two careers and almost my sanity over my significant others complete inability to just fucking listen for once. She was told hundreds of times to lay off, she was warnes hundreds of times to not let NB eat her up. She was told hundreds of times to remember her own family in this. She was warned dosuins of times of the likely consequences for both our careers, and our son's future if she let herself slip over the edge.
Despite this, she constructed a reality for herself in which her, and only her could save her brother. She neglected her own child, her own well being and her own career in this fantasy of hers, despite being warned to not do exactly that, by no less than 6 different people, and two professionals.
I'm devastated, my son doesent understand why mom isn't here, and is crying himself to sleep every other night. And I can't help but feel resentful towards my GF.
What the fuck do I do now?

2024.05.18 10:43 Infinite_Shopping468 My journey (NUSS)

Hey guys. First post in here and I thought I’d share my story with you. It’s a long one. And not so happy. So strap in.
My Pectus got very visible around 7th grade. And as probably many of you as well I went through it. Hard, bullying, low self esteem, anxiety and all the rest. But you get real good at hiding it. Around 2017 my dad noticed and we went to the doctor and started the procedure of getting it fixed through the NUSS surgery, which took place September 2018 at a hospital 4 hours from home.
From there followed 2.5 years of absolute misery. My right lung collapsed during the surgery. And I was unfortunate enough to have severe pain for the duration of the rod (2.5 years). I was on heavy painkillers for the entire duration. And at one point I was on 15+ pills a day. Every breath felt like a stabbing on the right side. And even though I was on all those pain meds (OxyContin, targiniq, palexia, etc, heavy opiates) I had to go shower a couple times a day due to the heat helping to relax the muscles for a while.
They decided to remove the rod 6 months early, on the 2.5 year mark due to the pain I was in. And after that the pains did stop. (I was of course sore and hurting for a while).
Then came the part about quitting all the pain meds. I would not put my worst enemy through that.
Where am I today? It was fine until about a year ago. I was starting to improve my mental health, started to show myself more without t-shirt and such. But I came home may of last year to find out it had started to sink in again. I went to the hospital, talked to 3 different hospitals. (The one they put it in, the one they removed it, and a 3rd for second opinion) to get the answer “accept it and live with it”. And they will not do anything about it. Now a year later it has sunk in a bit again. Not as much as before. But still noticeable. The middle is sunken but also the right side of the ribcage. The demons are back, mental health are crumbling from what started to become decent. And here we are. Feeling lost. Unheard and hurt.
This is my pectus story.

2024.05.18 10:21 lazingsesh How do I get out?

I’m almost done with my second semester, freshman year at Saint James school of medicine. I’m going to be completely honest, it’s so hellish. Right now I’m doing the online classes and am not on the island and I really don’t want to be. I was accepted into SJSM straight out of high school and joined mostly because of my parents.
I can’t handle this strange experience for lack of words and want to get out but I don’t know how. I’m currently taking courses through StraighterLine and my grades aren’t bad but I don’t want to attend SJSM anymore. Where do I go from here? Is it too late to transfer to in state schools? Will my credits even transfer? Would really appreciate it if someone could offer some advice.

In the realm of academia, success is not merely measured by the grades you receive but by the depth of knowledge you acquire, the skills you develop, and the growth you experience. Excelling in academia requires more than just attending classes and completing assignments; it demands a strategic approach, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge. Whether you're a freshman navigating the unfamiliar waters of higher education or a seasoned scholar aiming to reach new heights, this guide is crafted to equip you with the essential strategies for triumphing in your academic journey.
1. Set Clear Goals
Before embarking on any academic endeavor, it's crucial to establish clear and achievable goals. Whether your aim is to graduate with honors, pursue further studies, or secure your dream job, having a roadmap will provide you with direction and motivation. Break down your long-term goals into smaller, manageable tasks, and celebrate each milestone along the way.
2. Develop Effective Time Management Skills
Time is perhaps the most valuable resource in academia. Learning to manage your time efficiently will not only help you stay on top of deadlines but also allow you to balance academics with extracurricular activities and personal pursuits. Utilize tools such as planners, calendars, and task management apps to prioritize tasks and allocate time effectively.
3. Cultivate Strong Study Habits
Success in academia hinges on your ability to absorb, retain, and apply knowledge effectively. Cultivate strong study habits by finding a conducive learning environment, minimizing distractions, and employing active learning techniques such as summarizing, questioning, and teaching others. Experiment with different study methods until you find what works best for you.
4. Seek Support and Collaboration
Academic success is not a solitary pursuit; it thrives in an environment of support and collaboration. Don't hesitate to reach out to professors, classmates, or academic advisors for assistance when needed. Engage in study groups, join academic clubs, and participate in extracurricular activities that align with your interests and goals. Collaborative learning not only fosters deeper understanding but also cultivates valuable interpersonal skills.
5. Embrace Lifelong Learning
The pursuit of knowledge does not end with a diploma; it is a lifelong journey of discovery and growth. Stay curious, remain open-minded, and continuously seek opportunities to expand your intellectual horizons. Whether through formal education, online courses, or self-directed study, prioritize learning as a lifelong commitment.
In the quest for academic excellence, it's natural to encounter challenges that may seem insurmountable at times. During such moments, remember that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a testament to your determination to succeed. Assignment help services can be invaluable resources, providing guidance and support when faced with complex assignments or looming deadlines.
For instance, when tackling intricate topics in accounting, seeking assistance from International Accounting Assignment Help Online services can offer specialized expertise and insights tailored to your academic needs. Whether you're grappling with financial statements, cost analysis, or international accounting standards, these services can provide personalized assistance to help you navigate the complexities of the subject matter with confidence.
In conclusion, excelling in academia is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor; it requires a combination of strategic planning, diligence, and resilience. By setting clear goals, managing your time effectively, cultivating strong study habits, seeking support and collaboration, and embracing lifelong learning, you can pave the way for academic success. And when faced with challenges along the way, don't hesitate to leverage the resources available to you, including assignment help services, to overcome obstacles and thrive in your academic journey.

2024.05.18 10:07 spunchy M&B 2024 Lecture 1: The Four Prices of Money

M&B 2024 Lecture 1: The Four Prices of Money
For our schedule and links to other discussions, see the Money and Banking 2024 master post.
This is the discussion thread for Economics of Money and Banking Lecture 1: The Four Prices of Money.
This lecture provides context for the course and introduces us to Perry Mehrling's "Money View" framework. We practice using the balance sheet (T-account) as an analytical tool to help us understand the machinery of money, banking, and finance.
NOTE: The videos in this lecture have been arranged out of chronological order, so Mehrling sometimes refers back to something he hasn't talked about yet.

Part 1: The Big Picture

This course represents a challenge to Fischer Black's assertion we don't need a theory of money separate from the theory of finance. Black abstracts away from liquidity by assuming that perfect liquidity is free and happens automatically. By contrast, Mehrling insists that central banks have a role in managing the liquidity problems that financial markets naturally encounter.
Grounded in permanent, uncontroversial features of money, the Money View framework provides an ideologically neutral language and toolkit for discussing and analyzing money. Globalization, technology, and the forces of politics continually reshape the monetary landscape. But the underlying nature of money and banking remains constant.
We start with the question of financial globalization. In the decade-plus since he delivered these lectures, Mehrling has further integrated the international monetary system into his Money View. His 2022 book, Money and Empire: Charles P. Kindleberger and the Dollar System tells the story of how the US dollar found itself at the center of that system.
Global money has its own terminology. In particular, the term capital flow describes any cross-border flow of money not associated with the purchase or sale of goods and services. Whenever they happen to cross national borders, lending, borrowing, and the purchase and sale of financial assets, all represent capital flows. When I borrow abroad or sell financial assets, money flows toward me. That's a capital inflow. When I lend abroad or buy financial assets, that's a capital outflow.
In the lecture, Mehrling shares a list of his intellectual predecessors in the American and UK Banking traditions. Notably, he leaves off John Hicks, whose ideas, especially from his 1989 book "A Market Theory of Money," are central to the intellectual development of the Money View. We will discuss a few chapters from that book in the coming weeks.

Part 2: Prerequisites?

This course doesn't use much math. And you don't need an economics background to get something out of the material. If you're familiar with other ways of thinking about money and banking (and finance), these lectures will eventually connect up with those perspectives.
Instead of using conventional approaches for teaching Money and Banking by first applying theory, Mehrling builds out his Money View framework from an examination of banking practice. What model of the world do bankers need to have in their heads in order to stay in business?

Part 3: What is a Bank, a Shadow Bank, A Central Bank?

Here is the stylized balance sheet of a prototypical bank.
https://preview.redd.it/gt7d8qk8651d1.png?width=281&format=png&auto=webp&s=deadb0e839c3fe7d8617d8216071a21e64ffc1a1
Assets are always on the left side of the balance sheet, and liabilities are always on the right. The difference in value between assets and liabilities is net worth. Unlike other entries on the liability side of the balance sheet, net worth doesn't represent a commitment to pay a specific amount of money. Instead, we can think of net worth as an IOU to the bank owners for what's left over after all the bank's debts have been paid.
On the asset side of its balance sheet, the bank keeps a reserve of money available to settle immediate payment obligations. This reserve is monetary liquidity. As long as the bank has reserves it can spend down (0 < Reserves), it can meet its payment obligations. The bank is liquid. Without reserves, the bank would always have to receive money at the exact instant it needs to pay it out.
We will often use the terms money and cash to refer to the settlement instrument—that which can be spent directly to settle payment commitments. The settlement instrument will only ever appear on a balance sheet as an asset. The same instrument that serves as money for one entity may appear as a liability on the balance sheet of another entity, the issuer, but it is not money to the issuer. It is credit.
The term reserves refers to any reserve of money held as an asset. Above, I have emphasized the bank's reserves by italicizing and bolding the balance-sheet entry. I will follow the convention throughout the course of highlighting money as the settlement instrument.
Assets other than cash (money) represent promised or expected cash inflows. Liabilities represent commitments for future cash outflows. The balance-sheet structure alone does not describe the time pattern of these cash flows. Nor does it tell us about market liquidity, funding liquidity, or even the regulatory constraints on reserves. It is hard to see liquidity by looking at a balance sheet alone.
A balance sheet is solvent if its net worth—assets less liabilities—is greater than zero. However, there is no single correct way to determine the price of assets. Should we add up the total promised cash flows implied by the assets? Should we discount those cash flows based on how far into the future they occur? Should we weight them based on risk of default? When should we ignore all that and mark to market? That is, when does it make the most sense to value assets based on the price we could sell them for right now?
Solvency is often a matter of appearance, whereas liquidity imposes an actual constraint. If you can't make a payment, you're dead. Continued operation depends on liquidity, not solvency.
Let's look at two side-by-side balance sheets to see what happens when someone deposits cash in a bank.
https://preview.redd.it/nzakihfc651d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=430587d285c5bb0eeae1036e0b706bcc3455d353
On these balance sheets, "cash" refers to coins and notes—the physical currency you might keep in your wallet. For the depositor, both cash and bank deposits are money. For the bank, only the cash is money.
We can also show this transaction using payment arrows.
https://preview.redd.it/ybyopq6e651d1.png?width=338&format=png&auto=webp&s=c377ad6ccb9a8ec7c0bd897c4fd915dd220eafbd
Following Borja Clavero's color-coding convention, I've shaded the creation of deposits green to denote payment by issuance. I've shaded the transfer of cash yellow to denote payment by assignment.
In this transaction, the bank issues new deposits to buy cash from the depositor. The cash moves from the depositor to the bank. In terms of quadruple-entry accounting, we call it an asset intermediation because the depositor ends up holding an IOU for cash instead of the cash itself.
When the central bank issues new money, it expands its balance sheet on both sides, just like a private commercial bank.

The central bank is a bank. It's just not correct to say that the central bank is printing money. It's expanding both sides of the balance sheet at the same time. —Lecture
On these balance sheets, the word "reserves" refers to the deposit liabilities of the central bank. We call them reserves because the private banking sector uses these central bank deposits as its settlement reserve.
The term "reserves" can mean at least two different things:
  1. Monetary assets held to meet immediate payment obligations.
  2. The deposits a commercial bank has on account at the central bank.
The balance sheet mechanics here are identical to when a commercial bank takes a cash deposit. Just as the commercial bank issues deposits to buy cash, the central bank issues reserves to buy Treasuries.
But there are a few key differences not captured by the balance sheets:
  1. The central bank has replaced a non-monetary asset (Treasuries) with money (reserves).
  2. The price of Treasuries can move relative to reserves.
  3. The central bank is not passively standing ready to redeem reserves for Treasuries.
The central bank is, however, standing ready to redeem reserves for cash (and vice-versa). Just like reserves, cash is another liability of the central bank. Banks can decide which form of central-bank liabilities they want to hold as reserve assets. It can be any mix of cash and reserve deposits.
https://preview.redd.it/u710uojk651d1.png?width=822&format=png&auto=webp&s=87c659964567bcbdfaa22cabb7868bc678946749
The payment of cash to the central bank is shaded red to denote payment by set-off. The reserve issuance is, again, payment by issuance. These two payments, taken together as a transaction, constitute a refinance operation. The commercial bank shifts the form of its money reserve from one central-bank liability to another.

A shadow bank is like a bank, but its assets and liabilities are both market-based instruments. It borrows from the market and lends to the market.
Shadow banking is money-market funding of capital-market lending. —Perry Mehrling
The money market is the market for very short-term borrowing, often overnight. A borrower can use the money market in two different ways.
  1. To cover a temporary payments deficit.
  2. To fund a long-term position by continually rolling over (renewing) money-market borrowing.
Shadow banking uses the money market for the latter.
The capital market is the market for trading long-term securities such as stocks and bonds.

Notice that there is no money (cash reserve) on the balance sheet of this stylized shadow bank. In real life, shadow banking occurs on the balance sheets of entities that do have some kind of cash reserve. But for the shadow banking activity itself, liquidity is less about cash reserves and more about the ability to roll over short-term money-market funding. Traditional banking leans more on monetary liquidity (reserve assets), but both types of banking rely heavily on funding liquidity and market liquidity.

Part 4: Central Themes?

Two key ideas:
  1. Banking as a payment system
  2. Banking as market making
The payment system requires liquidity. If you're not liquid, you can't make payments. And liquidity comes from market-making dealers.
Mehrling has a 2015 blog post, Why is money difficult?, that describes some of the motivation for explaining money. It covers some of the same ground as Warsaw Lecture 1.
In my teaching, I have come to appreciate a variety of barriers that people bring with them to the study of money, and to appreciate the necessity of bringing these barriers up to consciousness as part of the process of learning. —Perry Mehrling, Why is money difficult?
We can summarize the "alchemy of banking" as:
All banking is a swap of IOUs. —Perry Mehrling
Depending on how we define "banking" and "swap of IOUs," the above statement might be true or not. For example, one might reasonably suggest that simply taking cash deposits is a "banking activity" that does not constitute a "swap of IOUs."
Nevertheless, "swap of IOUs" captures something important about banking. Banks predominately lend through a mutual obligation with borrowers.
https://preview.redd.it/f9ck1bmu651d1.png?width=338&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5184582513346893e3f243ac2c313f190899d42
Both the bank and the borrower expand their balance sheet on both sides.

Each party now owes the other something. And it holds the other's liabilities as assets. The deposit is the bank's debt to the borrower. The loan is the borrower's debt to the bank.
The bank's deposit liabilities are special because the borrower can spend them as money. The bank deposits are money to the borrower. The borrower generally can't spend its own debt directly. It must exchange its own liabilities for bank liabilities.
Imagine that I want to pay you money to buy some goods. If I have money, it just works.
https://preview.redd.it/9ofq8qq1751d1.png?width=338&format=png&auto=webp&s=aeaa2dcae347afa55d8634d8381c0462b5583750
I give you the money. You give me the goods in exchange. We've swapped assets.
https://preview.redd.it/b8ahjc83751d1.png?width=647&format=png&auto=webp&s=db34a3ff7a9706a51840fa1f100784217dee728f
If I don't have money, but you know me, then maybe you'll accept my IOU as payment.
https://preview.redd.it/ce118635751d1.png?width=338&format=png&auto=webp&s=fc8b101216ebc9da0ae64ed463901678955afb18
Here are the balance sheets.
https://preview.redd.it/udhhwm77751d1.png?width=714&format=png&auto=webp&s=0108f0215ca48df27dfb1e22dd207a6fea8dfafe
My IOU still isn't money, though. It can't be passed around as a general means of payment. Just because you accepted it as payment doesn't mean you can turn around and spend it again.
If you refuse my IOU as payment, I must find a way to transform it into something you will accept. A bank can help.
https://preview.redd.it/lvrafjaa751d1.png?width=1083&format=png&auto=webp&s=40b50f7cd6a60a6eb236afa00311bfc0abe55f49
Money now exists where none existed before. The bank has "monetized" my IOU.
It is perhaps easier to see what's happening with payment arrows.
https://preview.redd.it/muq5hc3d751d1.png?width=688&format=png&auto=webp&s=d411a8a5cfac0838cd2ca6261b15ef2dda286464
On the left, lending from the bank creates money for me (1). Then, I spend the money to pay you (2). On the right, you end up holding money, which is a liability of the bank. The bank ends up holding the loan, which is a liability of me—my IOU.
The four prices of money:
  • Par — the price of one money in terms of another money right now
  • Interest Rate — the price of money today in terms of money tomorrow
  • Exchange Rate — the price of domestic money in terms of foreign (international) money
  • Price Level — the price of money in terms of commodities/goods
Par
"One money in terms of another money" does not mean the relative price of two different currencies. That's the exchange rate. Instead, par is the relative price of instruments denominated in the same standard monetary unit. It is normally a fixed one-to-one relationship.
We expect a quantity of bank deposits to be redeemable for the same quantity of physical cash, or the same quantity of bank deposits in another bank. By allowing us to move freely between these different instruments, par facilitates the smooth functioning of the payment system. We only tend to notice par when it breaks.
A bank's balance sheet seemingly has money both as an asset (cash reserves) and as a liability (deposits). But only the cash reserves are money from the perspective of the bank. The bank is responsible for maintaining par between these two instruments.
Interest Rate
When two parties swap IOUs, the fact that one party pays the other a fee to enter into the mutual obligation gives us a clue as to which party wants access to the other's liabilities. We call that fee interest. And the interest rate is the price.
When I pay interest on a bank loan, I'm paying for a service. The bank's IOU (deposits) is worth something to me. Interest is what I pay to get it.
Exchange Rate
Today, the main international money is the US dollar. In the late 19th century, it was the pound sterling or gold. In any case, what matters is the relative price between the domestic monetary standard and the international monetary standard. For our purposes, the important feature of an international gold standard isn't the "gold" part so much as it is the "international standard" part.
A fixed exchange rate system is largely analogous to a single monetary standard with par relationships between instruments. Flexible exchange rates are more complicated. We will explore flexible exchange rates in the second half of the course.
Price Level
Notice that when Mehrling justified a role for the central bank, he said nothing about managing inflation. Mehrling emphasizes the price level the least of the four prices of money. This is partly because other economists tend to over-emphasize the price level. Nevertheless, money is meaningless unless it has some actual goods and services to buy. So we don't want to forget the price level entirely.
We also know that stabilizing the price level alone isn't enough to ensure stability of the financial system. By setting aside the price level—and assuming an unproblematic monetary standard—we can more easily explore certain features the system built on top of that standard, how they function, and why they break.

Part 5: Readings: Allyn Young

We will discuss this reading on Wednesday, May 22nd.
These four chapters represent only a tiny fraction of Young's 36 total encyclopedia articles for the 1924/1929 edition of The Book of Popular Science. You can read the rest—and more—in Money and Growth: Selected papers of Allyn Abbott Young Edited by Perry Mehrling and Roger Sandilands. I have not read the other chapters.
Please post any questions and comments below. We will have a one-hour live discussion of Lecture 1 and Lecture 2 on Monday, May 20th, at 2:00pm EDT.
