You are not recommended to try spells to bring a lover back if you are going through the following: You know that your relationship with your ex is toxic and the best painful option to take in this is to move on. It is not a good choice to be in a relationship that is un-natural, one that is built on witchcraft. The love spark as to be their at all times.
Even the most powerful love spell may not fulfill the things that are required for a real relationship to be in place. Love should be natural and if your partner looses interest in you, its better that you let them follow the heart. If one door closes, expect another open infront of you.
Therefore witchcraft or love spells should not be the ultimate solution to mending a broken heart in a relationship, one has to make love exist naturally by doing the right things to your partner, the things that will recapture the inner feelings of love and affection as you did in the start of the relationship.
Only if and when all has been tried and failed to work that one should order for my love spells that actually work, and indeed this will be the last nail in the coffin to fix your troubled relationship permanently.

2024.03.21 22:35 Saint-Mozambique [F] Solar Shock Chapter One Part Two
Daisy's house was in Grandview and during the late night explosions her house was affected by the blast that shattered every single window, debris was littered across the whole neighborhood. Branches were littered around the yard, Daisy and her brother Jake were cleaning up their backyard until they found a damaged kitchen refrigerator in the ground with shrapnel pinning the surface of the refrigerator. Daisy believes the refrigerator was launched from the blast after destroying someone's entire house in pieces, they couldn’t remove the damaged refrigerator because it was stuck in the ground, so they ignored it and continued to clean up their backyard removing the debris and throwing it in the nearby trash bag as a new helicopters was flying past their neighborhood. All trees in her neighborhood have lost their leaves from the previous blasts, Truman's Marketplace in Grandview was closed off to the public due to looting and vandalized after the devastation event from late night, the whole Interstate 49 was shut down due to major damages while worker and tow truck wrecker begin to removing debris and totals vehicles off the interstate. A donation site was set up at the church for the people who lost their houses in the two deadly explosions, but another church was nearly destroyed because the second explosion was close to the place. There were major wildfires and bushfires after the explosions, but quick responders made it to the area and easily put out the fire, the Cerner Innovation Campus buildings were completely destroyed by the third explosion that was in the center of the campus. All structures inside the campus area were in ruins after first responders made it to the scene and were shocked to see the aftermath. There was a major search for survivors on the remains of the campus, but everybody knew this search was going to be a recovery for bodies, no structure in the area didn’t survived the blast. The Fire Station Number 41 was nearly destroyed by the blast because the station was in the radius of the explosion, but some firefighters who didn’t leave the station miraculously survived the blast after noticing a bright light explosion from the campus. Many houses that were near the campus were demolished by the heavy blast wave, three bodies more were found in one of the destroyed houses, trees that surrounded the campus were flattened by the blast, a middle school and elementary school was nearly destroyed by the blast. The Bank Midwest lost all of its windows from the shockwave and Taco Bell was heavily damaged, the president of the United States and the governor of Missouri will travel to Kansas City to survey the damages from the three explosions. Some people believe the explosion was a meteor strike from outer space because of the multiple reports of bright or flashing light in the sky, but NASA couldn't confirm this report. But soon later videos begin to resurface on social media showing a comet burning out in the night sky before a bright explosion takes over the whole night sky. The death toll rises to three thousand deaths making it the second worst American disaster since Hurricane Katrina of 2004 and below the Galveston Hurricane of 1900, one of the worst disasters in American history, the search for survivors in the ruins and rubbles is still ongoing for the entire day. Max was at his aunt's house in Lea Manor, a neighborhood in South Kansas City for weeks because his house suffered major damages from the blast, but his uncle and father were beginning to work on the house trying to repair it for now, Max called Daisy on his cellphone to tell her the news about his house because he now far away from her house now, but they can still contact each other on a daily basis. Daisy told him her power came back on a minute ago after the line workers restored the electricity in her neighborhood, then Carlo sent them a message about him and his family staying at the hotel for the day because their house needs to be inspected before they move back in. Max and Daisy begin to change their conversation about something else over the event they experienced last night, their school district will be closed for the rest of the week until everything has been repaired. Patrick and Terry's houses were near their high school that was in the radius of the second explosion, but their houses weren't damaged. Max was in the guest bedroom laying on the bed while on his phone watching viral videos or clips on the internet until he received a message from his friend Terry “Guys! There are strange lights in the sky! Go outside and see it for yourself!” he said as he told them to go outside immediately and begin to send photos of something in the sky. Max got off the bed then he put on his crocs and began to speed walk through the hallway toward downstairs without getting his family's attention, he walked through the living room where his family was talking to each other about football and other things while watching a college football game. Max managed to go outside on the front yard to driveway, but his little brother Aiden and his cousin Noah noticed him going outside for no reason, so they both decided to follow him from inside to outside. Max was on the driveway looking around the area then he got on his cellphone to see the photos and messages “Terry is not lying, there is light in the sky that I can’t explain?” Patrick said with a confused emoji at the end of the sentence as he sent a photo of the sky with red light. Max looked up at the sky to see the full moon and many stars, but there was something else in the sky with the stars. There were multiple red straight line lights in the sky moving in different directions, Max was confused to see this strange event “Is this aurora borealis? The northern lights?” Max mumbled to himself the northern lights are in the north pole where Canada, state of Alaska, Greenland and other countries that are in the Arctic Circle, but this wasn’t any northern light, no colorful lights to it just candy red. It was moving toward the West slowly in a straight line, Max didn’t notice his little brother Aiden and cousin Noah was standing right next to him looking at the sky with him. There were seventeen red lines in the sky Max believes as he stood there with Aiden and Noah was standing there in silence for three minutes then they noticed something begin to happen strangely to the red lights. The lights were going in a straight line until it began to move into a zigzag “Alien?” Noah said to Aiden as he tried to find a rightful answer, Aiden shrugged his shoulders to Noah, he didn't know what to say to him, but just confusion and fascination. Max continued to stare at the red lights, ignoring anything that was trying to get his attention and not taking his eyes off it. Then out of nowhere another red light behind the rest of the lights was going forward for a while before it disappeared as others began to follow the one heading toward West before disappearing. Max, Noah, and Aiden were standing on the driveway saying nothing for a minute as the rest of the families were cheering and celebrating for a college basketball team then Noah began to walk toward Max and begin to speak to him “Uh, What was that! Max?” Noah asks Max "I don’t know? Noah! It may be a shooting star or the aurora lights” Max responded as he turned toward Noah and Aiden “Well that was a weird experience! We just witnessed for day” Max said to Noah and Aiden as they both nodded their heads in agreement with Max. Max, Noah, and Aiden went back inside the house because the sky was very dark after the sun disappeared above the horizon. Max was texting his friends about the red lights in the sky and began to chat with his friend trying to identify these strange lights in the sky, but none of them couldn’t not identity the red lights in the sky. Then everything went dark across the area of Lenexa electricity, transportation, and transformers were knocked out across the area of Lenexa and other cities that surround the city of Lenexa leaving the cities in the darkest. Residents were outside looking confused or answers for the power outage when out of nowhere a private jet began to fall out of the sky and crashed in Overland Park causing an explosion. A major blackout was reported in the East Kansas Metropolitan Area; three major cities were affected by the mystery explosion leaving the residents in darkness, commercial satellite took a photo of the blackout cities in Eastern Kansas, but Kansas City, Kansas was the only city that has not been affected by the explosion over Lenexa. After the explosion residents began to spot several aircrafts falling from the sky and crashing into the ground of Lenexa and Olathe, several of the aircrafts were came from New Century AirCenter Airport, Johnson County Executive Airport, and Kansas City International Airport, two of the aircrafts were passenger airlines that just left the international airport in Kansas City. One of the passenger airlines crashed down on the JCPenney Distribution Center warehouse, and the second passenger airline crashed right into an apartment complex killing all people on board and few people on ground, the Lenexa Fire Department was battling the blaze of several crash sites around the city. The mayor of Lenexa and other cities that are near the city of Lenexa declare a state of emergency over the huge situation that was occurring around the area. The mysterious explosion in the night sky begins to cause chaos in the suburbs, the mayor of cities has ordered a stay-at-home order in the cities that have been affected by the mysterious explosion due to looting and chaos, communication into the cities were knockout from the explosion, vehicles on the interstate and highway were left abandoned by their owner because the vehicle engine refused to started even transport trains were struck on the railway track from moving forward to their destination. The whole area was in pitch darkness until many spotted a small white light begin to come down through the cloud, but some later the light was immediately identified as a small meteor coming from outer space, the small meteor heading straight toward the Olathe East High School until it die out over the high school, the residents of Forest Hill and Villas of Forest Creek noticed the pale white light coming down until it die out in the black night. They didn’t hear any explosion or impact of the small meteor, but some people began to go outside to see the impact, but they noticed a white thick fog or smog like was covering the high school and other structures that were beginning to spread through the neighborhood and streets. The residents were evaluating their house over the fear that the unknown white fog could be contagious or harmful when being exposed to it. The Johnson County Sheriff Office and Fire District One arrived at the scene after getting phone calls from residents after they spotted a meteor impact at the high school of Olathe East, the first responders immediately closed down all roads and began to evacuate residents out of their homes as the strange thick fog is getting closer to the middle school of Pioneer Trail. But the white fog wasn’t hurting anyone for a while until something in the fog was triggered by flammable or a spark that lit up the whole neighborhood with a fireball spreading around consuming everything in its path then a loud explosion rocked the whole neighborhood of Olathe. The area of Northeastern Olathe began to shake for a few seconds before it abruptly stopped, residents that were far away from the blast spotted a rising mushroom over the intersection, the high school and the middle school before it dissipated by winds. Multiple law enforcement agencies from other cities and towns that weren't affected by the mystery explosion responded to the scene after Johnson County law enforcement requested assistance for the multiple location that was reported as a mass casualty event across the Lenexa and Olathe area. The Forest Hill neighborhood was wiped off of the face of the earth by the explosion, the Olathe East High School was totaled from the blast of the explosion as fire was raging on every structure around the neighborhood. Debris was littered over the street, torn down trees laying on damaged structures and vehicles. Firefighters, police officers, and paramedics who were dispatched to the scene described the whole area as a warzone like a bomb went off in the neighborhood. Burning corpses were discovered by first responders as they searched the whole area for survivors, but they found a totaled Olathe Fire Truck lying on its side with other totaled vehicles. Many houses that were affected by the explosion began to have a welfare check for injured victims or trapped victims, but the first responders kept discovering dead corpses inside houses one by one, but some of victims were killed instantly by fireball or being vaporized from the blast. But other victims were killed by the unknown effect during the explosion; the dead corpse didn’t have any injury on it from the explosion, but they died from asphyxiation because when the white fog exploded it began a subsequent vacuum that ruptured the human lung making them unable to breathe on their own. When the meteor neared the ground it turned into a white fog and began to spread around an area, investigators believed the explosion was similar to thermobaric munitions, but more differently than a munition. Max was sleeping happily on his new comfy bed that was in the bedroom attic and his sibling has their room, so he decided to take the attic bedroom because it was a quiet place. He wants to take the attic for himself because it is way quieter than other rooms where his siblings are in right now and he wants a room for himself, Max was moving around his bed to find a comfy spot until his cell phone receives a notification for a moment until the sound of alarm interrupts the whole attic causing Max to wakes up quickly and begins to look for his cell phone. Max finds his cell phone on the bedside table, Max grabs his cell phone and looks at the alarm clock to see the red big number of the time 11:45 am. “Who in the hell is activating the emergency alert at close to midnight?” Max said as he rubbed his eyes for a second before turning his cell phone to reveal a notification came from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. Max began to read the first words on the text that were in full capitalized “This is an emergency alert for Western Missouri! This is not a test!” It said then the rest of the words are warning. “Multiple unknown meteorites have been detected and spotted inbound toward Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri seeking immediate shelter! this is not a test!” Those words haunted Max, making him shocked for a while as he was reading the text one more time when the civil defense sirens began to activate around the neighborhood. Max got off the bed as he heard commotion below him then the attic door was being pulled open by his aunt, Aunt Elaine was calling him to go toward the basement immediately for safety where his siblings and relatives were at as there was a loud boom coming from outside. Max knew something was very wrong then he realized it was those comets he and friends witnessed yesterday, those red lights in the sky were the beginning of something that made him scared about it, Max walked down the stairs quickly into the living room to the kitchen where he met his dad and Uncle Eddie who was getting some food and supplies from the kitchen. Max made it to the basement where the whole room was not a small room, but a little big room, there was a bar area, living room area, bathroom and two rooms that could be guest rooms or supplies rooms. Max's little brother Aiden was lying on the small couch with his blanket, pillow and his favorite stuffed animal was trying to go back to sleep, but he was a little scared and confused because he didn't know what was going on. Cousin Noah and Marci were sitting on the large couch being comforted by Aunt Elaine, she was trying to calm them down because they were scared about this situation that's happening right now. Max sat on another couch, that is a sofa bed, Max’s mom came downstairs with the radio on WHB 810, a commercial radio station that was talking about a type of meteor that was extremely dangerous to human life. The areas affected is ;Leawood, Kansas, Olathe, Kansas, Lenexa, Kansas, Overland Park, Kansas, Prairie Village, Kansas and other places that are being affected by an unknown meteor strike, Max’s dad and Uncle Eddie finally came down after closing the basement door behind them then Uncle Eddie turned on the nearby lamp that was standing right next to the couch where Aiden was sleeping on before he sat down with Max's Dad on the fourth couch. They all were listening to the radio as the emergency alert system was telling the new reports about the strikes in Kansas, but they all were in the Lea Manor neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri, but they were close to the border of Kansas and the town of Leawood, the sound of a explosion was the closest to the area as another explosion that happens in minutes. Max’s dad decided to turn on television to watch a movie on Paramount Plus to remove the uneasiness and worriedness. Max picks one of the favorite movies that he and his siblings love to watch a lot. Max got another blanket and got off the sofa bed as his Uncle Eddie turned the couch into a bed for him, he shared the sofa bed with his cousins and began to drift off to sleep as the tornado siren began to wail down before going silent in the night.

2024.01.30 01:40 adventurepaul What's new in e-commerce? 🔥 Week of January 29th, 2024
Hi
ShopifyeCommerce - I'm Paul and I follow the e-commerce industry closely for my
Shopifreaks E-commerce Newsletter. Each week I post a summary recap of the week's top stories, which I cover in depth in the newsletter. Let's dive in...
1) STAT OF THE WEEK:
Temu’s traffic grew by 700% in 2023, according to Similarweb. The site reached an average of 92.2M monthly visits, coming in second in growth only to OpenAI, which saw its traffic grow by 2,690% in 2023.
2) In compliance of the upcoming Digital Markets Act,
Apple is being forced to make some big changes in the EU that could have a major impact on its app ecosystem.
➡️ Apple is finally opening the iPhone to third-party app stores in the European Union, but they aren’t making it easy or cheap to compete against their App Store. New third-party apps must provide a €1M “letter of credit” from an A-rated financial institution and pay a €0.50 “Core Technology Fee” for each first annual installation of their marketplace app.
➡️ Apple is now allowing developers to use their own payment service providers within their apps, but must pay that €0.50 per install fee beyond 1M installs.
➡️ Apple is now prompting Safari users to choose a default browser from a list of options.
3)
PayPal CEO Alex Chriss announced six new innovations the company is piloting and bringing to market this year during his First Look keynote last week including:
➡️ Redesigned Checkout (speeds up / adds passkeys)
➡️ Fastlane (one click guest checkout)
➡️ Smart Receipts (use AI to recommend more products)
➡️ Advanced Offer Platform (real time offers)
➡️ New PayPal Consumer App (more cashback options)
➡️ Venmo Enhanced Business Profiles (adds subscribe buttons, profile rankings, and promotions)
4) Not to be outdone by PayPal this week,
Bold Commerce also brought a new innovation to its platform. Its new biometric checkout offering, powered by Wink, lets customers make a purchase using only their face and voice to prefill the information needed to checkout. Now, instead of having to manually fill out details like login credentials, delivery details, loyalty accounts and payment preferences, retailers can enable shoppers to use their face and voice to pre-fill all the information necessary to complete a purchase on any mobile or desktop device or in-store.
5)
Temu, which since launching in Sep 2022 has only catered to Chinese sellers, is now opening its platform to US and EU sellers. US sellers will be welcomed to the platform in March, followed by European sellers soon after. The news was confirmed by a company spokesperson, who declined to provide additional details, only adding that, “many of the business details are still in the process of being finalized.”
6)
Instacart is attempting to gamify grocery shopping through its Caper smart carts, which can display games on its touch screens that encourage customers to buy more, such as spinning a wheel to earn a coupon. Instacart's VP of the connected stores division said, “Ultimately, where we want to take it is Pokémon GO.” McIntosh told Grocery Dive that customers spend around 30 minutes in front of the cart's screen during a visit, which he described as “an amazing opportunity” to show them ads, discounts, or other offers as they shop.
7) At the end of December,
MrBeast posted on
X that his newest video was out on YouTube, to which one user wrote, “Upload on this platform too,” and Elon Musk replied, “Yeah.” MrBeast hit Elon back with this reply, “My videos cost millions to make and even if they got a billion views on X it wouldn’t fund a fraction of it :/ I’m down though to test stuff once monetization is really cranking!” Flash forward a few weeks into January and MrBeast decided to experiment by uploading his content to X for the first time and pledging to publicly share details of how much revenue the platform pays out for the video. The catch being that he's not debuting his new content on X right away, but instead reuploading a video he first published on YouTube four months ago where he tests a $1 car versus a $100M car. A week later he followed through on his promise and revealed that the revenue created from the weeklong post on X was $263,655.
8) The
US Federal Trade Commission, which regulates competition, is investigating big tech's partnerships with AI companies. The agency is specifically looking at three separate multi-billion dollar investments including: Microsoft and OpenAI ($13B investment), Amazon and Anthropic ($4B investment), and Google and Anthropic ($2B investment). Lina Khan, the FTC chair, said in a statement, “History shows that new technologies can create new markets and healthy competition. As companies race to develop and monetize AI, we must guard against tactics that foreclose this opportunity. Our study will shed light on whether investments and partnerships pursued by dominant companies risk distorting innovation and undermining fair competition.”
9)
MailerLite confirmed that hackers gained access to accounts of large Web3 companies including Cointelegraph, Decrypt, WalletConnect, De.Fi, and Token Terminal to carry out phishing email scams that drained an estimated $3.3M from subscribers, according to the Blockchain analytics platform Nansen. The breach was caused by a hacker conducting a “social engineering attack” on one of Mailerlite’s support managers, ultimately gaining access to the internal admin panel. A total of 70 Mailerlite accounts were impacted by the breach, but the phishing campaign only targeted a handful of crypto-related lists.
10)
Klarna launched Klarna Plus, a subscription tool that offers users premium benefits and access to exclusive offers. For $7.99/month, users receive waived service fees on the company’s One Time Card, double rewards points, and exclusive discounts at select merchants.
11)
Etsy launched Gift Mode, an AI feature designed to match shoppers with tailored gift ideas based on their specific preferences. The feature is essentially an online quiz that asks who you're shopping for, the occasion, and the recipient's interests, and then generates a series of gift guides.
12)
JCPenney replaced its Sephora shops with JCPenney Beauty sections, a concept the company introduced in 2021 and rolled out to stores in 2023. The company is setting itself apart in the world of beauty with products from diverse founders, which is resonating with TikTokers, who are discovering JCP as an alternative to Sephora and Ulta.
13)
Microsoft is laying off 1,900 employees at Activision Blizzard, Xbox, and ZeniMax this week, accounting for roughly 8% of the overall Microsoft Gaming division. Alongside the layoffs, Blizzard's president Mike Ybarra and chief design officer Allen Adham decided to leave the company after 20 years at Microsoft.
14)
eBay laid off 1,000 employees, or about 9% of its full-time workforce, as part of its changes to position eBay for “long-term, sustainable growth.” In addition to the job cuts, eBay is scaling back the number of contracts it has with its alternate workforce in the coming months. The company filed an 8-K with the SEC revealing up to $110M in costs of restructuring, most of which is expected to be related to severance payments and post-employment benefits.
15)
Gen Z Americans are three times more likely to get caught up in an online scam than
boomers (16% and 5%, respectively), according to a Deloitte survey. Compared to older generations, younger generations have reported higher rates of victimization in phishing, identity theft, romance scams, and cyberbullying.
16)
Netflix is taking away its Basic subscription, its cheapest ad-free plan which costs $11.99/month. The company is retiring the plan in countries where ad-supported plans are available, starting with Canada and the UK in the second quarter of this year, leaving subscribers with their $15.49/month option as its cheapest ad-free plan, or the option of downgrading to its $6.99/month ad-supported plan.
17) Major brands that have no authorized retail relationships with
Shein are finding their products for sale on the marketplace anyway via Shein's “gray market,” which consists of name brand items sold by 3rd party sellers unaffiliated with the companies. Technically gray market goods are not illegal, and sellers can advertise the products as “100% authentic,” however, they can interfere with brand equity, reputation, and earnings, which is why many brands take action to curtail distributors who are part of the market.
18)
Flexport is about to lay off 20% of its workforce in the coming weeks, after last year having made 20% reductions in both January and October. (That seems to be their favorite reduction number.) Flexport, which just received a $260M capital infusion from Shopify last week, says that the layoffs will allow the company to regain profitability and build upon its $1B net-cash stockpile, as well as regain its foothold without raising prices for customers.
19)
Google took heat for allowing ads on its platform for keto gummies, which claim to be endorsed by Shark Tank famous entrepreneurs like Mark Cuban and Kevin O'Leary, but are actually not. Check My Ads, an adtech watchdog run by Nandini Jammi, found several different avenues in which Google played a role in perpetuating the scam including through its paid ads, organic search results, analtyics platform, and Adsense.
20)
X has limited searches for
“Taylor Swift” after revealing AI images of the celebrity were circulating the platform this week. X's safety account warned users of its zero-tolerance policy around fake nudes, and said that they were actively removing non-consensual nudity images, without mentioning Swift by name.
21) Speaking of nudes…
Meta is launching a new safety tool to block children from receiving and discourage them from sending nude images, including in encrypted chats later this year. It follows criticism from the government and police after Meta started to encrypt Messenger chats by default, which authorities say will make it harder to detect child abuse. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if the only way our government has to protect young citizens from danger is to invade our privacy, they’re doing it wrong!
22)
MacKenzie Scott is giving away another $10.4B of
Jeff Bezos' her money to charity, after trimming her stake in Amazon down to 1.9%. Since the split from Bezos, Scott has donated more than $16.5B to a wide range of charities, saying, “I have a disproportionate amount of money to share.” His money / her money jokes aside, keep it up MacKenzie! I support your endeavours. Alternatively it’d be hilarious if you used your Amazon money to beat Jeff in the space race.
23)
Binny Bansal, the Flipkart co-founder who previously reserved the rights to stay on the board for as long as he preferred when the company sold to Walmart, resigned from the group's board, citing a conflict of interest with his new venture as the reason for the move. Earlier this month I profiled Bansal's launch of OppDoor, a B2B startup that helps emerging e-commerce brands expand globally.
24)
Meta lost two lawsuits. The first loss was against Bright Data, which Meta claimed breached its terms of use by ingesting user data, but Bright Data successfully argued that it had only accessed publicly accessible information and had not breached any agreement. The second loss was against a small cafe owner in Somersworth, NH, who sued Meta (and represented himself) in small claims court for deleting his Instagram account six years ago without notice or reason. Despite Meta hiring several law firms to defend their case, the cafe owner successfully argued that the company committed a breach of contract and that they were not immune under the Communications Decency Act.
25) Now
Meta might lose another lawsuit. The company has been accused of automatically enrolling Europe-based Facebook users into the ad supported version of the service if they haven't yet chosen between the free and paid subscriptions options. A spokesperson explained that although users default to the ad supported version, Meta is not processing user data for EU-based accounts that have not yet explicitly chosen between the two options. However its uncertain how long this state of ad / ad-free limbo will persist.
26)
Newegg began selling refurbished electronics through a program called Newegg Refreshed, which promises to offer “top pre-owned products at competitive prices.” The service is live and available in multiple product categories including laptops, gaming desktops, monitors, smartphones, and tablets. Super smart idea, since the customers that buy electronics and computer parts from Newegg would be the same ones who want to sell their old setups. Now they can through the same platform.
27)
The Birthplace of Amazon, ie: the 1,540 bungalow in Bellevue, Washington where Jeff Bezos launched the company in 1994, is on sale for $2.28M, which surprisingly places it in the more “affordable” end of the street. The home last sold in 2019 for $1.5M, up from $620k ten years earlier.
28) Speaking of
Amazon, the company was fined in France for using “excessively intrusive” surveillance systems to keep track of workers. The French Data Protection Authority said that the systems employed by Amazon to keep an eye on workers for various reasons, including to enhance productivity, were a breach of the EU's new privacy rules under GDPR.
29)
Zilla, a Nigeria-based fintech, announced its decision to halt its BNPL services in order to focus on the development of cross-border payment solutions. So in other words, after deciding that the world doesn't need yet another BNPL service, the company has pivoted to developing yet another payment solution. I’m sure that’ll go well.
30)
X launched a new account called
u/XPayments in anticipation of Elon Musk's planned payment functions, but the account has yet to post anything. Regardless of its inactivity, the existence of the new account sent Dogecoin to the moon (okay, just up 12%) on Saturday, under speculation that Dogecoin could be incorporated into the service (which neither Musk or anyone at X have ever confirmed).
31)
Vroom, an online used car sales platform that was once the top competitor to Carvana, has hit the breaks on its e-commerce business and is winding down its used vehicle dealership to instead focus on operating its vehicle financing business and analytics service for automotive retail. The company said it was unable to raise the necessary capital to fund its e-commerce operations.
32)
Walmart is shuttering its Store No. 8, a flagship store created seven years ago to spur innovation. Walmart Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey said, “We’ve graduated capabilities from this operating approach that are now fully embedded in our organization. The responsibility to shape the future of retail is now shared by all segments.”
33)
ReturnLogic and
BigCommerce teamed up to introduce data-driven returns management for BigCommerce merchants. The integration provides merchants with features like automated return workflows and real-time analytics, allowing them to track return trends and identify common issues.
34) The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia filed a complaint alleging that
Google monopolizes key digital advertising technologies that website publishers and advertisers rely on to buy and sell ads. The lawsuit alleges that as a result of this monopoly, Google garners more than 30% of the advertising dollars flowing through its products.
35) Plus 9 seed rounds, IPOs, and acquisitions of interest including
Blueshift, a San Francisco-based startup that taps AI to help brands automate and personalize engagement across various channels, raising $40M in debt financing from RUnway Growth Capital.

2024.01.30 01:37 adventurepaul E-commerce Industry News Recap 🔥 Week of January 29th, 2024
Hi
ecommerce - I'm Paul and I follow the e-commerce industry pretty closely for my Shopifreaks E-commerce Newsletter. Each week I post a summary recap of the week's top stories, which I cover in depth (with sources) in the newsletter.

2023.12.28 00:12 7deadlycinderella [Doll collecting] The 90's are NOT all that- American Girl's 90's historical characters, nostalgia and AG fans
Short summary for folks who didn’t read my
previous write up: American Girl is a line of (rather pricey) 18 inch dolls, originally created by an educator and writer, which originally consisted of a line of historical characters with six book series and large clothing and accessory collections which were sold by the Pleasant Company. In 1999, the company was bought by Mattel, and the emphasis began to move away from both history and reading, much to fans distaste, but more historical characters are still being created to this day, even if they did not get the attention other parts of the line do.
A few years ago, it began being circulated that Mattel had trademarked the names Nicki and Isabel Cohen. A trademarked name is often the first sign of an eventually-to-be-released character doll (whether historical, contemporary Girl of the Year, or other), but sometimes leads no where. It was noted that both names had been used by AG before, for previous GOTY (girl of the year) characters
Nicki Fleming and
Isabelle Palmer. This led to people wondering why- nobody could find any sort of obvious reason for either name to be re-used, and led to many people accusing AG of laziness, but it was relatively quiet because we didn’t even know what the names were being used for at this point.
Late in 2022 and early in 2023,
more leaks on the characters popped up in various spots These leaks confirmed a few things- that their last name had been changed from Cohen to Hoffman, that they were intended to be twins. And that they were indeed historical characters, and their stories were being set in 1999. Yes, both a nominal year in AG’s history as a company and in the childhoods of many of their adult fans, was now far enough back to be considered for entry into the historical line. This of course, gave us a flurry of “but my childhood isn’t history!” and
“there’s nothing historical about the 90’s!” but that particular criticism is neither here nor there.
Then leaks of the dolls and their collections began. There were so many points of contention, it’s hard to cover all bases on them.
First off, the doll designs themselves. Isabel is a pretty basic blond haired-green eyed doll- not a bad design, but not an exceptional one either, and Nicki is similar, though she does have unique highlights- leading to questions on why AG chose these specific designs- most dolls that have names/stories have some sort of feature/style that is unique to them, both to make the doll worth it and to avoid them being able to be easily copied by Truly Me or Create your Own dupes. Both dolls do have unique face paint unlike most AG dolls- and it almost looks as though it was done to make it look like the nine year old characters wore makeup frequently enough that it was part of their base design (this is the part that I myself dislike most about both dolls), which brought up questions about age-appropriateness and era-appropriateness of the choice- as well as (to me and some other fans too) just looking bizarre on a vinyl doll face. Here is some discussion of a similar nature regarding
Nicki’s hair highlights.
Then their collections began to leak as well. The characters play into the tomboy-and-girly-girl dynamic popular with other twin pair characters from the era (though as an aside, they DID make the unusual decision to have Nicki, the tomboyish twin, be the shyer and more anxious of the two). They are from an interfaith family in Seattle. Additionally, their collections are heavily pop-culture focused: with flowers, alien faces, and other emblems popular in the 90’s and doll sized items of trendy items such as Tamagotchis, and the books frequently mention their favorite candy and TV shows.
They even have a Pizza Hut Bookit! playset.
Criticism was widespread. First off, there were those upset that the character’s story was based entirely around the very end of the 90’s (Y2K) rather than the rest of the decade. Then there were criticisms of the quality of the clothes and accessories (
Nicki’s overalls are much thinner and less detailed than similar items released for contemporary dolls in 99,
Isabel’s tennis outfit is a single joined piece of two different fabrics), especially the amount of plastic (though admittedly, this is very 99 accurate). In addition, there was quite a bit from fans who grew up in the era (myself included), that many items simply didn’t quite FEEL right to the era (for my own input- most of the accessories are spot on, it’s the clothes themselves that don’t feel quite right- individually, they may look fine, but together they do not). Isabelle’s collection in particular is heavily based on Cher from Clueless, but in a color palette that
catalogs,
including AG’s own, suggests is much more modern than their 90’s contemporaries.
However, their character’s stories took a lion’s share of the criticism. First off, the name change from Cohen to Hoffman. AG has had exactly
one Jewish historical character before (and one
Jewish Girl of the Year), and the name change made it feel to a number of fans that that AG was trying to erase the character’s planned Jewish-ness. This was continued when the “interfaith” portion of their character’s story was mostly rooted in them celebrating both winter holidays, and getting presents for both - even Lindsey’s (the previous Jewish GOTY) story involved her older brother’s Bar Mitzvah.
In addition, the only truly historical detail in their stories is discussion of Y2K (Nicki is very worried about it, and Isabel seems to think the whole thing is a joke) and most of their stories reads like a girl of the year story- about their relationship as twins, their friends and hobbies (skateboarding and pop music, both era accurate but not exactly unique- 60’s and 70’s characters Melody and Julie both had similar interests), and this is exacerbated by them being replaced in separate “journal” style books without too much prose, before receiving exactly one main book, whereas older character’s used to get six books at minimum. There’s actually a huge historical omission from their stories as well: both characters planned to attend the Seattle downtown Millennium celebration for the new year.
In reality, this event was canceled days before it was set to happen,
out of fears of terrorism. That could have actually been a really interesting way to end an otherwise optimistic late 90’s story.
This is a longtime complaint from adult AG fans, and one I tried to cover in a previous write up- that the historical aspect of the historical characters are being flattened in order to increase marketability, and specifically, marketing to nostalgia in adults. The dolls released in early 2023 to the above criticisms, but if anyone wanted more proof of the nostalgia marketing, a release later in the year gave them way more fuel for the fire.
In a fall update, both characters received the outfits they had been planning to wear to the Millennium celebration. These were the year 2000 outfit and the Red Vinyl Jumper, both outfits that had been made for dolls by AG in the late 90’s and sought after by collectors since- the vinyl jumper in particular is prone to cracking and is hard to find in good condition. Their released playsets also included dupes of the AG logo tee sold in the era (also available in adult sizes!) and items from a “sleepover kit” that were identical to ones available for purchase or pictured in AG magazine in the late 90’s. This released worked hook line and sinker to increase interest among adult collectors who were put off by various aspects of their initial release, though as we all know, it’s not out of a return to the original values behind the collection, it’s likely just a way of continuing to keep adult collectors engaged. It seems to be working- though specific sale numbers are not released to the public, the twins are still heavily advertised, and excluded from many discount sales, even though they aren't front of the website anymore. We'll see if the continued engagement from adult fans is enough to keep them going.
