Okay, I’ve been driving myself mad over the representation of Midgard’s solar system.
At this point, I believe that midgard’s solar system follows the geocentric model. To save a click, the geocentric model has earth at the center of the solar system with the following celestial bodies orbiting it: the moon, sun, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
I say this because, according to Bryce (ch. 17 HOFAS), Midgard recognizes 7 planets: Siph, Orestes, Oden, Lakos, Thurr, Farya, and Sol. In the center of the room is an 8-pointed star that represents Midgard (Earth).
This is interesting to me because the planetary names are mostly, seemingly Norse in origin. I say most because Orestes is Greek. Even more interestingly Orsestes’ name is the same in Greek and Roman mythology (which didn’t usually happen). I find this interesting because Azriel essentially says “we have an Oresetes too”.
Anyway, my best guess is:
Moon —> Lakos (Loki) - I’m unsure about this one. Loki doesn’t really have any direct Roman/Greek counterparts exactly. He is sometimes likened to Eris (who was also a trickster), but, essentially, Loki wasn’t so worshipped that the Romans brought him into the pantheon.
Sun —> Sol - pretty self explanatory
Venus —> Fayra - Freja was the goddess of wisdom and love, as was Venus. This seems like a pretty straightforward translation.
Mercury —> Oden - there are some who liken Mercury to Odin because Odin is a physcopomp, etc. admittedly, some of the things that made the Romans liken Odin to Mercury could also apply to Loki (trickery being one).
Mars —> Orestes - Orestes is known as the warrior. Mars is a god of war. Interestingly, the equivalent in Norse myth to Mars would be Tyr.
Jupiter —> Thurr - again, some things could tie Jupiter to Odin (chief of the Roman pantheon, etc) but, I think this is a mapping that is best explained in world for CC. Bryce, in book 2, describes thurr as a god who has a name of the week named after him and a planet. Both of these things apply to Jupiter (Jupiter being the god who Thursday irl is actually named after).
Saturn —> Siph - this one I really don’t have any basis on. Sif is often associated with DemeteCeres. And while there is a celestial body for Ceres (that lies in an asteroid belt near Jupiter) that wasn’t discovered until the 1800s. This could be a play on the geocentric model, tho, and SJM could just be ignoring Saturn (and Neptune, etc).
Anyway, I’d love to hear others thoughts on this. It’s been in my head for too long!

She went to the next, a similar mound with a grave male face. “Orestes.”Okay, so, I’ve tormented myself trying to make sense of how she laid out the planets, but I think, ultimately, we can’t really say anything about how the order of the planets because they seem to be depicted as orbiting around Midgard, so as Bryce approaches an orb on the ground… it doesn’t necessarily mean she’s calling them out in order.
Bryce indicated the next mound, the face of a bearded old man. “Oden.” The next, closer to the center of the room, was a young, laughing male. “Lakos.” Another mound rose on the other side of the star, massive and helmeted. “Thurr,” she said. Then she pointed to a mound with a female head. “Farya.” And beyond Farya, a large, raised mound with snaking tendrils. “Sol,” she whispered, indicating the sun-shaped thing.
She scanned the room again and turned to the eight-pointed star. Directly between Lakos and Thurr. “Midgard.”

And has a short temper. But also has her own sadistic side to her, starting wars for very stupid reasons. Just like she got bored and raided Athens with her soldiers. The streets of Athens were filled with corpses and blood splattered everywhere. Even children were not spared. On the temple, where the last remaining soldiers and citizens were hiding, Queens of the forces clashed. Athena VS Enyo. That battle took 12 minutes, and ended with Athena ripping Enyo's left eye out of socket. This raid also caused Zeus to finally snap at her daughter, and exiled her out of Greek Pantheon. Destined to wander plains of the world alone. From a piece of metal, she covered the wound on her face, and it gave rise to deep hatred for Athena. As she lived among mortals, she got bored of War. The moment guns exchanged bows with arrows and swords, it all stopped being entertaining for her. And it even grew on announcement. She lived in Poland, during World War II, and during Germany's attack, a little girl saved her. The girl did not know she is goddess and could not be hurt by mortal weapons, but still did so. In following days, when they started hunting for Jews, Enyo have hidden said girl and her family in her own house. And when they got discovered, Goddess of War and Bloodshed raised on surface, massacring all soldiers that came there, and sended their heads with message carved to their heads to Germany. Despised Goddess became symbol of hope for said small town. Symbol of Protection. And after war ended, Enyo embraced her Roman equivalent of Bellona. As symbol of her being new being. Even letting go of her deep hatred for Athena. But... as it's always the case. Nobody ever dies... not even our past selves. As it's the case with Bellona. Butcher of Athens... Enyo... is still deep within her. Waiting for the moment to come back on the surface once more. Though she has picked a habit of smoking cigarettes. |

While SMT protagonist are considered self-insert at best where you can just name them however you want, there are some “canon” names that were considered their “real” name:
SMT1 protagonist was sometimes known as “Kazuya”, “Adam” and “Futsuo”. But most commonly he was just known as “The Hero”.
SMT20XX protagonist is completely unknown, as that mobile game was never publicly released back then, therefore he never received a “canon” name, he was just known as “The Hero” just like SMT1 Protag.
SMT2 protag was known as “Aleph” or “Hawk” as his gladiator name.
SMT IF female protag was known as “Tamaki Uchida” (Who also made an appearance in Persona 1 and 2), while her male counterpart was known as “Nobu Akiyama”, (If anyone even remembers this game…)
SMT Strange Journey protag was known as “Tadano Hitonari” from the CD Drama, but most just calls him “Space Marine” or “Doom Guy”. (Another forgotten title…)

Gaullism is a French political stance based on the thought and action of World War II French Resistance leader General Charles de Gaulle, who would become the founding President of the Fifth French Republic.
Corporatism I do not know where the description for this is. Considering corporatism doesn't exactly fit within conservatism I believe this is a mistake, but I'm including it here anyway.

The Republican Party is one of the two major political parties in the United States, the other being its historic rival, the Democratic Party. Black Conservatism Black Conservatism is a type of conservative ideology popular among Africans in both hemispheres. Individuals which would promote black conservatism would likely be advocates of free market capitalism, promotion of traditional beliefs (generally in regards to Catholic and Protestant Christianity), and Patriotism or Jingoism. Black Conservatism generally is opposed to Pan-Africanism, Socialism, and Anti-Imperialism.
Conservative Liberalism Conservative liberalism is a variant of liberalism, combining liberal values and policies with conservative stances, or simply representing the right-wing of the liberal movement. It is a more positive and less radical variant of classical liberalism.

Labor Zionism (Mapai) Labor Zionism is the left-wing of the Zionist movement. For many years, it was the most significant tendency among Zionists and Zionist organizations. It saw itself as the Zionist sector of the historic Jewish labor movements of Eastern and Central Europe, eventually developing local units in most countries with sizable Jewish populations. Kemalism Kemalism is the founding ideology of the Republic of Turkey. Like many individuals on this page, we are fans of a wrestling company known as All Elite Wrestling. As a long-time lurker, this fandom comes within many shapes, sizes and sorts. From my time here, there were many highs, All Out 2021 or Wembley Stadium, to the lowest lows, Brawl Out, and whether there were people that have been here since day 1 or just joined recently, we come together due to one simple fact:
WE LOVE AEW.
My origin into this fandom wasn't at the every start, I didn't watch All Out 1 or watched when AEW started weekly TV in its first year.
I was a waning WWE fan and the only weekly stuff I watched was NXT Takeovers and NXT UK because being in a part of Europe where I couldn't watch weekly the main roster stuff so just kept up to date with podcasts or highlights.
(Shoutout OG Whatculture with Pacitti, Jack and King Ross).
Like many fans of the E, I came in as a fan throughout the early 2000's and dropped off and came in again every so often.
The height of my fandom will always be going to Youtube in the old days and watching the Shield vs The Wyatt Family in Elimination Chamber.
Even back then, Mox to me was the leader of the Shield and still salty that they made Roman the leader towards the end. (haha)
Man it was wild to think that the main reason the E gave so much shine to Black and Gold NXT at Survivor series was mostly due to AEW gaining momentum.
NXT Black and Gold/UK will always hold a special place in my heart for two main reasons
1) it was the place where I showed my partner her first proper wrestling match: Adam Cole (Bay Bay) vs Keith Lee Champ for both their belts.
She was sad she coudn't get me the shirt for that match cause it was only available in US
2) Ilja Dragunov vs Walter. NXT UK Pandemic Era
Still to this day, my favourite series of matches that made me realise "man I love professional wrestling".
If any of you still have the old network go out of your way to watch this and their Takeover match, I remember being part of that journey where Ilja basically had to break himself down and build himself up to get another shot at Walter had to be something special to get me to watch a weekly show where only piped in crowd noise was the only response to the action.
However, even though I say these things and had those memories I don't watch the product anymore since my Membership expired. I recently went to a live event a while ago in Germany with my sister to see WWE.
Standout moments were:
a) The Miz cut a promo, in German, about how big his balls are. He faced Cody Rhodes and not gonna lie. Favorite match of the night.
b) Introduction to Main event Jey Uso live and the Yeet chants. Tag match with Sami Zayn that spiraled from an NXT North American Title Match that ended when Dom and JD got the DQ on the FIRST MATCH to set up a tag match.
c) New Day are still great
d) Imperium vs Alpha Academy was great home town goodness.
e) Gunther vs Bronson was easily a slapper. Both figuratively and literally. I was in seats high up in the Arena. I have a feeling most of us would die if Gunther were to chop any of us. It was LOUD.
f) Seth Rollins vs Shinsuke for the World title in a Berlin Street Fight. Gunther should have main evented and that table spot SUCKED BALLS.
After the event, My sister and I chatted, she had a great time. Told her I did too, I still would not watch the product again.
Alright, the preamble is now out the way. I know alot of you guys would consider the above excessive but I feel like I had to paint a picture to get you into the frame of my mind as a fan of wrestling. I'm not coming from a WWE hater but as someone who did love the things they did but, unlike some who dropped out after a multitude of BS wrestling bollocks from E, for myself, I just could'nt find a way to enjoy a company that seemed so.....two-faced.
AEW will always be the company that proved to me that there is a company that would do right by wrestlers who felt they could've been more.
The moment that made me into an avid AEW fan.
Jon Moxley beating Chris Jericho to win the AEW title for the first time.
The guy whose last run involved a gas mask was able to be crowned a champion as HIMSELF in front of an adoring crowd.
Then the Elite/Hangman saga. Eddie Kingston. Darby. Orange. AEW Dark hangouts.
I went into the deep end of this new company and wanting to know more about these new characters and people I was introduced to.
It still feels nostalgic thinking about how the Elite created the BTE title or the Bucks asking Eddie to cut a promo on a pack of cookies.
God that was some good times.
Then the Punk stuff happened.
With the preamble being as long as it was, this section is going to be brief. In summary:
-Exciting when he came in. Loved his match with Darby.
-Brawl Out was a situation where if you go back and just tweak things a little, I have a feeling we would have a different timeline that what we have today.
-Regardless, everyone shoulders blame and things could have been handled better. That said, CM Punk is an entitled baby who realised that just because TK loved him, the rest of the locker room had different opinions.
-Him being fired was probably the best to occur and regardless of what you feel about the video, still not cool to lunge at your boss cause you feel slighted. Leave your "oh it wasnt even that bad, TK got thin skin" bs out the door.
The above point is why Youtube personality Just Alyx soured on me.
"Come on, CM Punk Tony. LIke look at him"
That was the phrase that just made me sad about one of the people I loved to get his views on with the product.
Also JDfromNY. Loved his WWE rants. They were hilarious. With Papa H pretty much running the show, he and Alyx, two dudes I could just listen to and just kinda vibe with became insufferable.
I think the line where one posted "With Triple H finally getting these backstage hands in order and the Rock being one of the board members, I can confidently say that I can just enjoy and not backseat" was the push I needed to get those two off my timeline.
AEW as a five year old company has made mistakes, jesus christ Wardlow I'm so sorry, but it has shown it can grow and it's still a place where wrestlers can call home.
The recent thread on SQ is over 1.5k comments about the low ratings and I didn't click onto it cause I enjoy my mental health but I feel people forgot that Sting had his retirement match two months ago and that was arguably one of AEW's best PPV's. Then Dynasty happened and so on and so on.
There are alot of things that AEW needs to fix but I'm confident that all of us can admit, they have made great strides compared to its start and they will continue to improve without, hopefully, resorting to childish BS in the future
I feel like this post was therapeutic in the sense that I needed to vent about the recent online discourse. So I leave you guy's a question:

Dear Atom, the way I despise most discussion I've seen about who to side with in the Pitt, because a lot of people either didn't pay attention, or learnt that Wehrner used to be Ashur's right hand and got instantly manipulated. Some points I've seen people make to excuse siding with Ashur;
• "He doesn't call or treat them like slaves, even calls them workers": Literally everyone apart from him knows they're slaves. Ashur only calls them workers to give himself a conscious, it doesn't excuse anything he or his employees do.
• "He's made lives for the slaves better.": No he fucking hasn't???? They can barely eat, and if their not dying from starvation, exhaustion, thirst, the raiders, the Wildmen or Trogs, it's from killing each other in the gladiator arena. In what way, shape or form are their lives better???
• "He promises to make their lives better after developing the cure": We've already established that he lives to himself to make himself feel better about what he's doing, even if the cure is made, I don't doubt he'd make some sort of condition for the slaves to get it. There's also the fact that, despite being a Brotherhood member and not usjng his expertise and knowledge to help people in the first place, he started a raider gang and enslaved people.
• "Wehrner will just betray the player.": Why do you think that? Because he lied about what the cure is? Because he used to be Ashur's right hand? He lied about a lot of things but we've had no evidence that he's going to betray the player
• "Wehrner wants to rule the Pitt.": Again, no evidence of that, and even if he does, there's literally a single dialogue option that let's you takeover and he doesn't even argue with you
• "Wehrner and his men would have just killed Marie no cure would have been found": What??? What men??? Last night my university appeared on the news.
As I watched the broadcast, listening to my old television set sputter and cough like a used car engine, I swore the temperature plummeted several degrees. The newscaster was still droning on in the background but it could’ve just been static. Meaningless.
It is always the same with this news broadcast. Burned and charred stone and concrete lying around in a pentagon in a way that could make any abstract artist proud. I try, whenever it comes up, to ignore everything scrolling on the screen. Or at the very least, skim through the programme. The less details I remember, the better.
But every time, my eyes are drawn to one tiny thing on the screen. It stands out screaming, a splash of red in an ocean of black. I can’t forget it no matter how hard I try, and it slips into my nightmares and I wake up screaming.

“This is our pride and joy,” he nodded, gesturing to a rune of a blood-stained sword. His sunflower name badge read James and he was cute. Tousled hair, playful freckles–the works.
I swear girls swooned when they saw him.
The year was 2004 and I wished fighting over James was the least of our problems. Even now, during orientation week, a great hush fell over our little tour group. Everyone shifted their feet nervously and tied their fingers into knots.
James laughed.
“The stories about Helena Sword? That’s just it. Stories.”
“All the stuff you heard about her before you came here, they’re simply not true. Just something stupid to scare the freshies, that’s all.”
He trailed off in the middle of his speech, staring off into the distance.
“It’s been a thousand years after all…”
He laughed again, but it was as empty as the wind blowing down the halls. He cracked a smile, but his face was pale like the rest of us.
“Anyway,” he said, “the library is just down this hallway too. When our founder, Sir Gallus, founded this place, he sought out books from all over the world…”
As the rest of the tour moved on, I couldn’t help but stay behind. I was no archeologist, but there was something about this rune that would not let me go. I stroked the rune, fascinated by how my fingers crossed tall ridges and tiny valleys. It was very simply carved, almost like a child’s drawing of a sword brought to life, but as I turned to catch up with everyone else, I realised I wasn’t alone.
She was pretty, a girl around my height and build, with striking red curls and a rather long neck, almost like a giraffe. A tattoo poked out behind long blue sleeves, dressed in red ink. The girl turned to me and grinned sheepishly.
“Are you lost?”
I frowned. “Sorry?”
“The tour group moved on without you,” she stated, pointing ahead. Indeed I could hear James’ voice in the distance, rambling on about the portraits in the halls. I looked back at her and she nodded grimly.
“My name is Ginny,” she said, extending her hand. I shook it. It was as cold as ice. In fact, when I looked at her, it was like gazing at an ice sculpture, with frosty eyes and dainty lips.
“It’s my first day here too. Except well…my parents brought me here yesterday. So I know this school inside out. Do you want me to show you around? You don’t need that tour group. Especially since they well…abandoned you.”
My head was suddenly foggy. “Yes, please,” I mumbled.
In spite of her offer, Ginny didn’t say much as we walked through the campus. Didn’t point out anything interesting landmarks or anything like that; didn’t talk much about herself either. Instead we wandered through the grounds, enjoying each other’s company. It was the beginning of autumn, and golden leaves were falling down and the trees looked like they were on fire. Overhead we could hear migrating birds singing. It was lovely.
Eventually we reached my dorm.
And hers.
Ginny was my roommate. I found it strange, since I didn’t recall having a roommate or asking for one; and even if I did, wouldn’t I be informed of it months ago? Someone that I would share my life with for the next three years? But then she looked at me and smiled and all my questions flew out of my head. I mumbled a yes to her offer of assistance and we spent the rest of the afternoon making our dorm look like home.
Then we went down for dinner and were joined in the mess hall by two other girls, Ivy and Cleo, who told us their room would be next door to us. We sat down with our mashed potatoes and roast chicken and they immediately drummed up conversation, talking about their lives before they came to university, what they hoped to achieve during their time here, and everything in between.
“So what are you guys studying?” Ivy asked.
“Psychology,” I said. Helping people has always been a lifelong dream.
“Computer Science,” Ivy and Cleo said at the same time.
We all looked at Ginny. She stared back, completely taken aback by the question.
“Um,” she said, “Computer Science too, I suppose. That’s getting popular, right?”
“Yup,” Ivy mumbled, her head bowed over her mashed potatoes like a broken flower. “Everyone is fighting to get their slice of the Internet these days…”
We continued our meal in silence, the conversation suddenly over. We walked up together, too, and it felt strangely uncomfortable. A dark cloth had fallen over our little group, leaving behind an itch we could never scratch.
Finally we reached our dorms and we looked at each other.
“Well, good night then,” Ivy said. Cleo was already inside and I could hear her brushing her teeth.
“See you at breakfast.”
“Good night,” I said. Ivy nodded and closed the door.
Ginny was already in her bunk, her nose in a book. There was already a stack next to her, as tall as a mountain, and by the glare in her eyes, passionate and intense as fire, it looked like she was going to be reading all night.
“Don't classes start next week?” I asked with a frown.
“Yeah,” Ginny said distractedly. Her eyes were glued to the pages and she was flipping through them so fast her hands were a blur. “Just wanted to get started so I’ll be well-prepared, that’s all.”
She peered down at me, her icy blue eyes fixated on my muddy brown ones. “Go to bed. We have a big day tomorrow.”
“Yeah, I guess,” I mumbled, and soon I slipped away from the real world for a world of restless dreams.
For some reason, I woke up in the middle of the night.
I got my torch from under the bed and checked the time on my alarm clock. 4am.
Great.
I lay down on my pillow with my eyes open. I strained my ears, listening out for the sounds of nature. Back home there were birds that sang no matter what time it was, porcupines and rats scavenging around our trash, and crickets that performed symphonies that lulled me into slumber.
But out here there was nothing.

I couldn’t even hear my roomie. I didn’t really peg Ginny as the type who snored, but her bunk felt…empty. I peered upwards and couldn’t make out her shapeless form huddled beneath her blankets. Books were strewn all over her bunk, their pages wide open like the wings of lost paper birds.
I yawned and squeezed my eyes shut. It was too early to do anything and as Ginny said, we had a lot of things to do tomorrow.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehh!!
It sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Or rather, that of a clawed hand scraping down someone’s flesh, their hooked nails peeling off their skin in strips.
I groaned and smashed my pillow against my ears, but even my fluffy shield did nothing to muffle the loud screeches that rattled from my ears down my spine and to my toes.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehh!!
I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I wobbled out of bed, clutching the bed frame as the world spun in front of my eyes. I breathed deep as another eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhh screamed in my eardrums, making my hair stand on end.
Then I heard someone scream.
Was that Ginny? An image tore through my mind of my roommate in the corner, slowly strangled by rusty iron chains that curled around her body like venomous snakes. I know I shouldn’t open the door–it is a critical mistake made by so many horror movie heroines–but the thought of Ginny, alone, made my heart shiver.
So I yanked open the door.
There was Ginny, frozen like a popsicle stick. The shadows gathered and morphed into a hooded figure that blanketed her bodice.
Something—someone—slithered towards her, dragging behind a long blade. Eeeeeeeeeeeh
Ginny opened her mouth. Was she screaming?
But no, the silhouette brushed up against her skin and whooshed right past her, disappearing into the dorms. Ginny looked over, saw me screaming, then ran over and knocked me back in the room, locking the door shut.
“Are you okay?” she asked urgently.
I nodded a yes. Everything I felt at that moment couldn’t be put into words. It was dammed somewhere in the back of my throat, fighting to get out.
But I just couldn’t.
“What did you see?”
Nothing. Just nothing. My mind was blank. Everything was a hazy mess zooming around through my neural pathways. I sat down and rubbed my head. The room was spinning out of focus.
I needed to sleep.
“Yeah, sleep tight,” Ginny said kindly, pushing my blanket up to my neck. I curled up like a cooked prawn and breathed in deep. It smelled like home.
“Good night, Ginny,” I mumbled.
“Good night.”
We woke up to a sea of noisy chatter. It sounded like a thousand parrots squawking at the same time.
Eyes closed, mine still hazy, I stretched—and immediately bumped my head against the wooden frame.
Ow.
People were talking—no, shouting. It rang in my ears like a bloodcurdling scream. I groaned and attempted to muffle it with my pillow above my ears. Why do people have to be so goddamn loud?
Finally I gave up and sat up straight, forcing my crusty eyes open. Ginny was already gone, and her nightgown was draped across the top bunk like a country flag. The door was creaking in the wind. It slammed against the wall and came back strong.
Ow
Ginny came back. Without a word she took me by the arm and dragged me out of the room. There was a crowd mulling outside Ivy and Cleo’s dorm and as we passed I could hear snippets of their conversation:
“Dead…”
Ginny marched past them and took me down the stairs and to the mess hall, her eyes staring straight ahead like the world had vanished around her. Then she sat me down on one of the benches, took a sip of water and stared at me, her face white and shaking.
“WHAT?”
Even in the foggy haze of sleep, the bizarreness of the morning and the crowds outside the dorms were getting to me. All I had was questions, and I hated having so many questions.
For the first time since I met her, Ginny’s eyes didn’t meet mine. “So uh, you know the guy leading you around yesterday? When we first met?”
The description scratched my memory, and then I remembered. Tall and lanky, with tousled brown hair, freckles and a charming smile. He had a sunflower lanyard pinned on a checkered shirt–and that badge contained a name.
“James?”
“He…”. Ginny took a deep breath.
“He is dead. They found his body this morning.”
Ginny was still talking but I was barely listening. I only met this boy yesterday but it felt like I knew him forever. I felt like I was being pulled under, my reality torn asunder, everything that I know just…shattering around me.
Dead?
My throat was dry. Closing up. I sounded like a strangled cat.
“Yes,” Ginny confirmed dryly.
I looked at the two empty seats opposite me and that momental wave of dizziness turned into nausea.
“Bathroom,” I said.
Ginny watched me go, unblinking.
I rushed to the first unlocked toilet I found, ignoring the glares of girls already in queue. I gagged and watched my dinner and what little of my breakfast I had eaten swirl down the bowl. Then I flushed and staggered out. Everything was lit up way too bright; the chattering of students heading to their classes was way too loud; and I sat down in the corridor and closed my eyes.
I wasn’t sure how long I was out, because the next thing I knew someone was shaking me awake and helping me on my feet
“Come on,” Ivy said.
Her voice was brittle, her face pale. She was as fragile as stained glass, and she could barely walk herself. We limped together, nearly tripping over each other as we went up the stairs, until we collapsed, tangled between each other in a rope of legs.
That was when I felt something sharp brush across my cheek, drawing blood.
I looked up to see a hooded figure standing above us, wearing black gloves and a cloak made out of human skin. Her eyes were glowing crimson as she raised the sword. Rust gleamed at its sides like dew.
The sword slammed down, nearly missing Ivy’s leg.
We looked at each other, barely breathing, barely a word said between us. Then as if on command we got up and hightailed it back to our dorms. Through the shadows as we ran I could see a girl my age watching.
Her red curls shone in the dark like fire.
Ivy slammed the door behind us and shoved chairs up the edge to boot. I wasn’t sure it could hold a sword slicing through a wooden door but it would have to do.
Ivy sat on the bed and closed her eyes, whispering prayers in her native language. I didn’t feel like talking either
Author's Notes
If I remember correctly, this one is about a student who haunts the university 300ish years after her death. She is a witch, immortal and summoned by touching ruins. Her main weapon is the titular sword and instead of wielding it herself she hypnotises other students to kill for her.
The next scene is Cleo framed for killing James, the first sinister look at her powers of hypnosis.
The ending reveals that Ginny (taken from Ginerva, a romanized version of Queen Guinevre, yes me and JK Rowling had the same line of thinking) and Helena Sword is the same person and hypnotising all the other students. She dies when the narrator burns the school to the ground accidentally while trying to get away, ending the curse and resulting in the ruins at the start of the flashback.

“Good night,” I said. Ivy nodded and closed the door.
Ginny was already in her bunk, her nose in a book. There was already a stack next to her, as tall as a mountain, and by the glare in her eyes, passionate and intense as fire, it looked like she was going to be reading all night.
“Don't classes start next week?” I asked with a frown.
“Yeah,” Ginny said distractedly. Her eyes were glued to the pages and she was flipping through them so fast her hands were a blur. “Just wanted to get started so I’ll be well-prepared, that’s all.”
She peered down at me, her icy blue eyes fixated on my muddy brown ones. “Go to bed. We have a big day tomorrow.”
“Yeah, I guess,” I mumbled, and soon I slipped away from the real world for a world of restless dreams.
I got my torch from under the bed and checked the time on my alarm clock. 4am.
Great.
I lay down on my pillow with my eyes open. I strained my ears, listening out for the sounds of nature. Back home there were birds that sang no matter what time it was, porcupines and rats scavenging around our trash, and crickets that performed symphonies that lulled me into slumber.
But out here there was nothing.
Great.
I couldn’t even hear my roomie. I didn’t really peg Ginny as the type who snored, but her bunk felt…empty. I peered upwards and couldn’t make out her shapeless form huddled beneath her blankets. Books were strewn all over her bunk, their pages wide open like the wings of lost paper birds.
I yawned and squeezed my eyes shut. It was too early to do anything and as Ginny said, we had a lot of things to do tomorrow.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehh!!
It sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Or rather, that of a clawed hand scraping down someone’s flesh, their hooked nails peeling off their skin in strips.
I groaned and smashed my pillow against my ears, but even my fluffy shield did nothing to muffle the loud screeches that rattled from my ears down my spine and to my toes.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehh!!
I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I wobbled out of bed, clutching the bed frame as the world spun in front of my eyes. I breathed deep as another eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhh screamed in my eardrums, making my hair stand on end.
Then I heard someone scream.
Was that Ginny? An image tore through my mind of my roommate in the corner, slowly strangled by rusty iron chains that curled around her body like venomous snakes. I know I shouldn’t open the door–it is a critical mistake made by so many horror movie heroines–but the thought of Ginny, alone, made my heart shiver.
So I yanked open the door.
There was Ginny, frozen like a popsicle stick. The shadows gathered and morphed into a hooded figure that blanketed her bodice.
Something—someone—slithered towards her, dragging behind a long blade. Eeeeeeeeeeeh
Ginny opened her mouth. Was she screaming?
But no, the silhouette brushed up against her skin and whooshed right past her, disappearing into the dorms. Ginny looked over, saw me screaming, then ran over and knocked me back in the room, locking the door shut.
“Are you okay?” she asked urgently.
I nodded a yes. Everything I felt at that moment couldn’t be put into words. It was dammed somewhere in the back of my throat, fighting to get out.
But I just couldn’t.
“What did you see?”
Nothing. Just nothing. My mind was blank. Everything was a hazy mess zooming around through my neural pathways. I sat down and rubbed my head. The room was spinning out of focus.
I needed to sleep.
“Yeah, sleep tight,” Ginny said kindly, pushing my blanket up to my neck. I curled up like a cooked prawn and breathed in deep. It smelled like home.
“Good night, Ginny,” I mumbled.
“Good night.”
Eyes closed, mine still hazy, I stretched—and immediately bumped my head against the wooden frame.
Ow.
People were talking—no, shouting. It rang in my ears like a bloodcurdling scream. I groaned and attempted to muffle it with my pillow above my ears. Why do people have to be so goddamn loud?
Finally I gave up and sat up straight, forcing my crusty eyes open. Ginny was already gone, and her nightgown was draped across the top bunk like a country flag. The door was creaking in the wind. It slammed against the wall and came back strong.
Ow
Ginny came back. Without a word she took me by the arm and dragged me out of the room. There was a crowd mulling outside Ivy and Cleo’s dorm and as we passed I could hear snippets of their conversation:
“Dead…”
Ginny marched past them and took me down the stairs and to the mess hall, her eyes staring straight ahead like the world had vanished around her. Then she sat me down on one of the benches, took a sip of water and stared at me, her face white and shaking.
“WHAT?”
Even in the foggy haze of sleep, the bizarreness of the morning and the crowds outside the dorms were getting to me. All I had was questions, and I hated having so many questions.
For the first time since I met her, Ginny’s eyes didn’t meet mine. “So uh, you know the guy leading you around yesterday? When we first met?”
The description scratched my memory, and then I remembered. Tall and lanky, with tousled brown hair, freckles and a charming smile. He had a sunflower lanyard pinned on a checkered shirt–and that badge contained a name.
“James?”
“He…”. Ginny took a deep breath.
“He is dead. They found his body this morning.”
Ginny was still talking but I was barely listening. I only met this boy yesterday but it felt like I knew him forever. I felt like I was being pulled under, my reality torn asunder, everything that I know just…shattering around me.
Dead?
My throat was dry. Closing up. I sounded like a strangled cat.
“Yes,” Ginny confirmed dryly.
I looked at the two empty seats opposite me and that momental wave of dizziness turned into nausea.
“Bathroom,” I said.
Ginny watched me go, unblinking.
I rushed to the first unlocked toilet I found, ignoring the glares of girls already in queue. I gagged and watched my dinner and what little of my breakfast I had eaten swirl down the bowl. Then I flushed and staggered out. Everything was lit up way too bright; the chattering of students heading to their classes was way too loud; and I sat down in the corridor and closed my eyes.
I wasn’t sure how long I was out, because the next thing I knew someone was shaking me awake and helping me on my feet
“Come on,” Ivy said.
Her voice was brittle, her face pale. She was as fragile as stained glass, and she could barely walk herself. We limped together, nearly tripping over each other as we went up the stairs, until we collapsed, tangled between each other in a rope of legs.
That was when I felt something sharp brush across my cheek, drawing blood.
I looked up to see a hooded figure standing above us, wearing black gloves and a cloak made out of human skin. Her eyes were glowing crimson as she raised the sword. Rust gleamed at its sides like dew.
The sword slammed down, nearly missing Ivy’s leg.
We looked at each other, barely breathing, barely a word said between us. Then as if on command we got up and hightailed it back to our dorms. Through the shadows as we ran I could see a girl my age watching.
Her red curls shone in the dark like fire.
Ivy sat on the bed and closed her eyes, whispering prayers in her native language. I didn’t feel like talking either
If I remember correctly, this one is about a student who haunts the university 300ish years after her death. She is a witch, immortal and summoned by touching ruins. Her main weapon is the titular sword and instead of wielding it herself she hypnotises other students to kill for her.
The next scene is Cleo framed for killing James, the first sinister look at her powers of hypnosis.
The ending reveals that Ginny (taken from Ginerva, a romanized version of Queen Guinevre, yes me and JK Rowling had the same line of thinking) and Helena Sword is the same person and hypnotising all the other students. She dies when the narrator burns the school to the ground accidentally while trying to get away, ending the curse and resulting in the ruins at the start of the flashback.

- Weiss and Sun role swap. (they have WS and SW as their initials, so it’s just a funny idea since you wouldn’t have to change the names of their teams.)
- Ruby and Blake role swap. Faunus Ruby ran away from home at 10 and joined the WF and Blake left at twelve and was adopted by Tai.
- Not a role swap but fusing two characters together. Ruby with Sun. Yang with Neptune. Jaune with Coco. Roman with Adam. Iila with Neo. Things like that (but I have to think through things.)
