2024.05.18 21:04 pewtermug Thought y'all would enjoy this - kicked out two bridesmaidzillas 11 days before my wedding

(my post originally from CharlotteDobreYoutube)
I will try to keep as many relevant details in here as possible without going too far off track, since the history with us and with her is utterly a novel. This is long, but worth it, so here goes.
11 days before my wedding I kicked out two bridesmaids (A and M.) This meant I had two left (E and L.) It started with bridesmaid A who asked if her boyfriend could wear a cowboy hat to my wedding. Mind you, my wedding venues were a church for the ceremony and a beach front venue for the reception. I told her that I did not want a cowboy hat in my photos or in my wedding, that that was not the vibe my husband and I were going for, and it just didn’t fit either venue’s décor or environment.
A bit of a backstory – A is not in the best position financially. She was dating her boyfriend for like 2 months before she got pregnant. He promised her a better life closer to his family, she believed it, got fired from her $50k/year job, left her first child w/ her ex-husband (Child 1 was supposed to be my flower girl, whose dress we also bought,) they moved from State A to state B, they don’t make much money. They now have the newborn that they can barely afford while living in a camper.
Before A asked about the cowboy hat, she asked about jeans. I did not want denim at my wedding. Denim is not formal. She said he was going to wear the same outfit to the wedding as his grandmother’s funeral. Fine, not a big deal. I told her if they are black jeans that is fine since from a distance they will look like slacks. (I gave her an inch and she was definitely looking for that mile.) She kept going with it and I eventually said, “I did not want denim, but I made the exception for you two.” And she said “Yeah, it’s not like we could have afforded anything else anyway.” I felt the tension and left it alone for the night.
The next morning, she texted me that she was hurt, that I had an attitude basically and I’ve been acting some type of way, she again brought up the money situation. I tried to be understanding and that I know they are not in the best position financially, but a lot of my family is not, and I know a lot of people are spending quite a bit to get where we are for the wedding (about half our guests were coming from out of state.) I also said I wanted everyone to have a great time and I was sorry if I came off any type of way or insensitive. This was not good enough for her. She decided to say that a wedding was about celebrating our love and if I was focused so much on a cowboy hat my priorities were in the wrong place. I asked her what was going on because this was clearly not about a cowboy hat and she avoided answering. Also did not tell me anything else it might have been about.
She said ever since planning the wedding I have been micromanaging, acting proud, and some other accusations that made no sense. I had no idea what she was talking about because a lot of the decisions my husband and I needed to make were taken care of with both venues – food, DJ, set up, breakdown, clean up, etc. A also said she had been talking to M about the way I was behaving, and that the cowboy hat was the final straw. (What’s that even mean? If I was bothering you with things, why didn’t you tell me so I could fix it or change the way I was approaching things?)
Somewhere in the midst of this whole thing, she said her daughter (Child 1) would just be uncomfortable in her dress and wouldn’t sit still for more than 30 mins (A lie, I have been around her and she is well behaved,) and also said her boyfriend does not like to eat in front of people (Arms must be tired from all that reaching) and all around is just making excuses, trying to call my bluff about this; if the boyfriend can’t even wear the cowboy hat to the reception, then they probably just go fishing after the ceremony, and not even come to the reception. She also said we could have helped with her shoes. In many other words, I told her just because we make more than her does not mean we owe her anything and told her almost everything we were paying for. Then told me to chill and that I was probably emotional from the planning and everything going on. Basically, gaslit me when she was the one that literally threatened not to come because of a cowboy hat. She brought up money again like five more times and how they’re broke – so clearly this is about money.
Husband and I bought the dresses, fronted the Airbnb we needed to get ready in, we fronted hair & makeup without asking for anyone to pay for their portion, bought gifts, A’s plane ticket (she paid us back the next day,) and many other things for our wedding for the bride and grooms party so everyone had a good time, knew they were appreciated, and felt like the event was worth the traveling and time.
Throughout my wedding planning, I pretty much planned everything with my husband, and we asked for hardly any input from anyone since no one was really available, no one was close, and it was just easier. So the whole micromanaging comment made no sense to me. I was doing my best to be flexible and understanding of finances for A, not as much for bridesmaid 2, M, but a little. She was also in a state 3 time zones away from me, so her plane ticket was not cheap.
I have known this girl A for six years. I am crying at this point. It’s the afternoon, I have to get final headcount to the reception venue for catering THE NEXT MORNING. I am texting my mother, bridesmaid E, friend D, a group chat on messenger, and I have not told Husband yet. Every single one of them was on my side. E said, “If she is this way now before your wedding, imagine what she is going to be like on your wedding day.” And being the desperate person I was, I said to friend D “I know this is shitty and a horrible circumstance but if I needed you to be a bridesmaid, would you? The dress color and material are still available on [Vendor’s site.]” She said absolutely. I felt terrible for asking but I trusted her.
M now comes in. She was busy at work so she could not respond to the chat as much, but I was keeping a lot of the chat between A and I because I did not think M needed to be involved. A kept bringing the chat back to the group chat. She brought enough back to the group chat that M picked up on some stuff and basically agreed with A, she said I was being insensitive, and “At least she asked you before she did it.” I’m sorry, what?
Backstory for M – A few months earlier she said she was upset I did not officially ask her to be a bridesmaid and did not think it was worth it to come to my state for the wedding because it would be the second time she is here with her boyfriend but not for them; like not for their own reasons such as a vacation. We had a conversation when I started planning and I asked if she would be comfortable ordering a dress for me to see what it looked like. She said “Aww you want me to be a bridesmaid?” I said “I thought that was obvious!” So maybe it’s a thin line, but she went shopping with A and I, went to try on dresses with her, and LET US BUY HER DRESS. She could have said something beforehand that she did not want to, rather than just thinking she had to. She also was not going to be there for the rehearsal since there was a concert in her state rescheduled for two days before my wedding and she was not going to miss it. Understandable since she would have had to get up at 5 am or earlier the night after the concert to get to my state sometime Thursday evening or Friday afternoon. I did not like this, but I accepted it because she also said “I think I’ve been part of enough weddings to figure it out, -insert laughing crying emoji-
By this point husband also called me for something, I don’t remember what, but I eventually said to him “I don’t think I want either A or M to come.” He said “Okay, whatever you need to do. I’m fine at this point.” I summarized the events and he said “If you want to burn everything to the ground I don’t care, that’s fine with me.” I stewed on everything for a few hours but I knew what I had to do.
I let it sit, I said nothing else, I went to run an errand, I was on the way home, told D when the rehearsal and dinner was, asked if she could make it, she said yes. I told her to order her dress, called the florist, I told them I needed one less bouquet, and got home about 30 mins later. A few hours later I said to both A and M, basically, “You know what? Never mind. I don’t want either of you to come. This is my wedding, we are paying for everything, and I was not wrong. I do not deserve this treatment. It is not my fault A you made shitty decisions and can’t afford anything and M you planned a wedding before, how can you agree with her?” and quite a few other things. (Told them both to send back the dresses but ultimately did not end up caring and said they could do whatever they wanted with them later.) A then said I was attacking because I was frustrated. No, A. You made shit decisions and you’re taking it out on me now. M called me and I didn’t answer. (She was married before, divorced now. Whole other fucking story.)
The other kicker? A kept her flight to STILL COME SEE HER DAUGHTER and was going to need a CAR RENTAL ANYWAY, and A HOTEL ROOM with her boyfriend. So wait, was it NOT actually about money? I don’t even know anymore.
Anyway, D got her dress by Thursday or Friday the same week, we went shoe shopping a few days later, and she bought her own shoes, too.
My wedding party on my wedding day had three girls that were super supportive, loving, and made my day a whole lot easier. They were by my side, made me smile and laugh, and made the day so much more special. I have screenshots, by the way. If anyone wants them, I can attach them to a google doc and have you see them, haha. Just PM me!

Anatomy of sin: how adultery darkened David's mind
Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, “David's Repentance.”
Joab's trickery
When we read how Joab carried out David's orders, we realize: the commander disobeyed the king:
And it came to pass, when Jo´ab observed the city, that he assigned Uri´ah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were. And the men of the city went out, and fought with Jo´ab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uri´ah the Hittite died also. (2 Sam. 11:16-17)
Joab makes Uriah's death look like an accident rather than the result of betrayal: he simply puts a warrior in the hot seat. Along with Uriah, other warriors died.
Why does Joab do things his own way and not directly fulfill David's order? On the one hand, it is obvious: as an experienced military commander, he quickly noticed the king's blunder and corrected it accordingly. On the other hand, when we read about his command to notify David of the event, we realize that Joab is not as simple a man as it may seem at first glance. What did Joab want? Let's look at the text of the commander's command to notify the king of the event:
Then Jo´ab sent and told David all the things concerning the war; and charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king, and if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall? Who smote Abim´elech the son of Jerub´besheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uri´ah the Hittite is dead also. (2 Sam. 11:18-21)
1) It is striking that Joab is clearly not trying to avoid problems. Instead of telling the story of Uriah's death right away, the commander offers to recount the entire battle.
2) Joab thinks through David's future response in great detail. This suggests a commander who is portraying the king, expressively imitating the intonation and manner of speech of royalty in anger. It is beyond the scope of this article to go into the details of why Joab puts the story of Abimelech's death into David's mouth. Here we will only note that the commander anticipates the king's reaction (as we know from the subsequent story, David did not react in the way Joab portrayed). Why did Joab need all of this?
Joab versus David
It is paramount to note that the relationship between David and Joab was hardly a good one. The warlord had despicably murdered men who were dear to the king: Abenir (2 Samuel 3 ch.) and Absalom (4 Samuel 18 ch.). After the death of Abenir, David, realizing that he was dependent on Joab, nevertheless dared to openly voice his disagreement with the warlord:
And the king said unto his servants, Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel? And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeru-i´ah be too hard for me: the Lord shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness. (2 Sam. 3:38-39)
We can assume that Joab was the most experienced strategist of his day (it was not for nothing that David put him in charge of the whole army). It is noteworthy that among the other commanders of King David were very worthy men: “Isbosef the Ahamanite, the chief of the three; he lifted up his spear against eight hundred men, and smote them once” (2 Sam. 23:8). Another, “Eleazar the son of Dodo...The Israelites went out against them, and he stood and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary and stuck to his sword. And the Lord granted a great victory that day, and the people followed him only to pick up the slain.” (2 Sam 23:9-10). Joab was a ruler over such worthy men among others. It is quite possible that Joab saw a worthy rival in David. Realizing that he could not become king, the warlord was simply trying to show his superiority over David.
Returning to the story of Joab sending a messenger to notify David of Uriah's death, we can assume that he played David's reaction to show his superiority over David: "that my actions could so easily make David mad." We do not know with what intonation, facial expressions, and gestures Joab imitated David's reaction. But it is possible that he portrayed the king's helplessness, perhaps even hysteria.
It is also worth noting here that Joab, though not directly, still obeyed the king and, in fact, gave some of the soldiers (including Uriah) to be killed. Why did he do this? It can also be explained by his cold strategic mind as a military commander. He was willing to use such an occasion to demonstrate to David his superior strategic thinking - if he had followed David's plan, the soldiers would have realized that any one of them could be in Uriah's place. In any case, the fact that Joab gives some of the soldiers to the death, fulfilling the king's orders, hardly makes him look good from a Christian moral standpoint.
Three versions of Uriah's death
When we read how the messenger at Joab's command notified the king, we realize that he is not quite listening to the warlord and lays out his own version:
And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate. And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uri´ah the Hittite is dead also. (2 Sam. 11:23-24)
Thus we have three versions of the account of the battle in which Uriah was killed. The first is that of the author of Scripture himself (2 Kings 11:16-17); the second is that of Joab (2 Kings 11:18-21), and the third is that of his messenger (2 Kings 11:23-24). Comparing them, we find differences that deserve separate attention. In the messenger's account, the arrows killed Uriah as Joab's army (which included Uriah) pursued the enemy to the gates of the besieged city. In the Scripture author's account, the enemy came out of the city, fought Joab's army, and in the course of doing so, Uriah was killed. It can be assumed that the messenger seeks to make Uriah's death as accidental as possible (no one is safe from archers) and at the same time justifiable (the troops had taken the upper hand over the enemy and in their pursuit of victory had come very close to the city). The messenger does his best not to piss David off. He realizes that it is hardly worth it to anger the king (contrary to what Joab said).
David's derangement
As we read of King David's reaction to the messenger's news, we can hardly remain indifferent:
Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Jo´ab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him. (2 Sam. 11:25)
Here we can see the depth of David's confusion. On the one hand, he tries to convey his speech in such a way that the messenger does not understand what is going on between the king and the commander. But the king himself does not understand what is going on: he does not know that the commander has deliberately changed his plan in order to ridicule his reckless strategy. He was waiting for news that Joab had carried out his orders: to kill one Uriah. When he heard that the commander had “failed miserably” (instead of killing one Uriah, he allowed other soldiers to die), the king decided to encourage his commander.
It is noteworthy that the author of Scripture does not tell us how the events unfolded: how the messenger reacted to David's words, how he returned to Joab, how they captured the city... But we, the readers, who realize the darkness of the events, understand one thing: David, instead of surrendering to grief and sorrow over the death of his loyal soldiers (as he had done before and would do in the case of Absalom's death), wants to encourage Joab. Instead of surrendering to anger at the commander who “badly” carried out an order, David encourages the one who, in correcting a flaw in the king's order, gives up his soldiers to die.
Every sin darkens the mind. That is why we must not think: I will sin and then repent. We don't know what happens after we sin. It is likely that David too was justifying his desire to give himself over to lust. Perhaps he too thought that afterward he would repent and all would be well. He hardly thought about the fact that he would then kill Uriah and have his firstborn son by Bathsheba die. He did everything he could to make his sin known to as few people as possible. And that only led to everyone finding out about his sin.
Sin is never worth committing. To paraphrase the apostle Paul, one of the Christian's mottos can be summarized as follows: “I will die, but I will not sin!” (Hebrews 12:4) Let us not forget that today's “petty idleness” can lead to a breeding ground for countless and shameful passions. For example, today's idleness can become shameful slander and gossip. And when we sin, we will immediately confess our sin, being broken and if possible mourning for what we have done. For the sin we have committed darkens our mind and corrupts our soul. Only sincere confession, brokenness, rethinking and change can restore the health of mind and soul after sin. May the Lord help us never to justify consenting to sin, but to really fight against sin, even to the point of shedding blood! (Hebrews 12:4)

2024.05.18 19:27 Yurii_S_Kh Monotheism. Part 2: Judaism

Monotheism. Part 2: Judaism
Part 1
Judaism: a Retreat from Biblical Monotheism
The history of the Jewish people is clearly divided into two periods: before and after the expiatory death of Jesus Christ. As the Sacrifice for the sins of the world had not yet been carried out, Old Testament history continued, the entire meaning of which consisted in waiting and preparation to meet the coming Savior. Messianic expectations were particularly pronounced during the last decades before the arrival of the Savior into the world. People not only in Jerusalem, but also in other cities and villages of Palestine, waited for the Messiah foretold in the Holy Scripture.
Christ and the Pharisees
Time was fulfilled. The Messiah came, but Jewish leaders, Pharisees, and Sadducees condemned him to death. But why were the Pharisees, Sadducees, and scribes offended? Why was it enough for the Samaritan woman to reveal the secret side of her life for her to gladly believe that the traveler standing beside her, weary from the road and asking her for water, was Christ (see John 4:42)? Why did the Pharisees and scribes, who were witnesses to the magnificent miracles performed by Jesus and knew the Scriptures better than anyone else, stubbornly refuse to recognize Christ? Finally, one more question: why did they hate Him, despite the fact that he delivered many people from terrible disease and suffering?
The answer must be sought in the peculiarities and character of the spiritual life of the leaders of Israel. Religious life demands of a person self-attentiveness, moral sensitivity, humility, and pure intentions. Without this, the heart gradually hardens. A change inevitably occurs, the consequences of which are spiritual death.
Already before the beginning of our Savior’s Gospel of the Heavenly Kingdom, the Jews had begun to imagine the Messiah as a powerful earthly king, who would exalt them above all nations and make them wealthy and powerful. This concept of the Messiah corresponded to their spiritual and moral condition.
For a proper understanding of the prophecy inspired by the Holy Spirit, not doctrinal erudition, but pure, uncorrupted faith was necessary.
The consciousness of lawyers and scribes, corrupted by sin, did not notice the parts of the Old Testament in which the spiritual qualities of the promised Messiah are given: "behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass" (Zech. 9:9); " Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth" (Isa. 42:1-3; cf.: Matt. 12:20).
Despite all the seemingly multifaceted events preceding the trial of the Savior of the world, there is only one reason for such a grave sin to have been committed—the people were rooted in sin and loved it. They seethed with anger at He who had come to the world to conquer and destroy sin.
After Christ the Messiah, who came to save the world, was slandered, profaned, and put to death, the spiritual death of the chosen people began. The Lord Jesus Christ spoke to the Hebrews directly, "He that hateth me hateth my Father also" (John 15:23). This means that the monotheism of the Hebrew leaders became entirely formalistic.
In literature, Old Testament religion, which ends with the conclusion of the New Testament, and Judaism, are often confused. This association is completely wrong. The expectation of the Messiah, which permeated the centuries-long history of the religion of the descendants of the Prophet Moses, ended. The goals and aspirations of the Hebrews, led by the Pharisees and Sadducees, stayed on Earth. Earthly well-being, wealth, success, and power became core values. In keeping with these, they imagined the anticipated Messiah.
However, the prophets foretold the coming of another Messiah—the Suffering Messiah. The Prophet Isaiah, who is called the "Old Testament Evangelist" (see Saint Jerome, Letter to Paulinus) because of his many prophesies and the precision of their fulfillment in Jesus Christ, speaks about this with impressive clarity and precision.
What then is the true Messiah? "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth… for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand" (Isa. 53:7-10).
Were the Jews familiar with this chapter of the great prophet? Not all of them. Usually during weekly readings at the synagogue this chapter is omitted. Here is an excerpt from the memoirs of Rosa Price, who survived the horrors of several Nazi concentration camps and accepted Jesus Christ. Her daughter became a follower of the Savior Jesus, but she adhered to old misconceptions. "I ran to the rabbi. He would tell me different Scriptures with which to challenge my family. In response, they would give me five more. At the urging of my family, I asked the rabbi about Isaiah 53. He said, “No Jew reads that, especially not a Jewish woman.” So I couldn’t read it. The same for Psalm 22. There are 328 prophecies of the coming of the suffering servant Messiah. I asked the rabbi about almost all of them. Finally, the rabbi told me not to come to the synagogue anymore because I had read him Isaiah 53" (Rosa Price. The Survivor // Sid Roth. They Thought for Themselves. WWP, 2007).
How did the lawyers, who knew many parts of the Old Testament Bible by heart, explain the chapter? In the period of the Talmud's formation, the scribes recognized that the 53rd chapter was a prophecy of the Messiah's coming. However, beginning with the famed Hebrew exegete Rashi (Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki; 1040 - 1105), rabbis assert that the 53rd chapter speaks of the Jewish people. A simple reference to the text can refute this belief.
  • "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows" (Isa. 53:4). Whose grief did the Jewish people take on and whose sorrows did they carry?
  • "With his stripes we are healed" (Isa. 53:5). Who has been healed by the wounds of the Jewish people?
  • "For the transgression of my people was he stricken" (Isa. 53:8). If it is speaking of the Jewish people, then who suffered punishment for the transgressions of the Jewish people?
  • "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death" (Isa. 53:9). When and in which grave are the Jewish people buried?
In the holy Old Testament books there are signs of the appearance of Christ (the Messiah) and in it are described his chief characteristics. Of the prophecies on the coming of Christ into the world in the Old Testament, before all else it is necessary to note the vision of the prophet Daniel, foretelling even the year of the Savior's death. “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined" (Dan. 9:24-26). Week (seven) is understood as 7 years, and 70 sevens consists of 490 years. It is the timeframe for the "end of sin." Here, we are talking about Christ the Savior's atonement for people who have violated the will of God and fallen from grace. In the prophecy, the Messiah is directly indicated ("to anoint the most Holy"). To calculate the amount of time given here, one must turn to historical sources, noting the reconstruction of the city of Jerusalem, which fell as a result of the Babylonian destruction in 586. The count of seventy sevens begins from the date of the reconstruction of Jerusalem. The decree for the restoration was given by Artaxerxes Longimanus in the 20th year of his reign. He came to the throne between December 18, 465 and December 18, 464 BC. The seventh year of his reign, from which the countdown of weeks begins, comes in 458 or 457. From this time period to the time of the appearance of Christ our Lord, 69 weeks (483 years) should pass.
The Forerunner of the coming of the Messiah is also mentioned in the Old Testament. "Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts" (Mal. 3:1). Dwellers in Palestine knew the Holy Scripture and saw in John, who preached repentance, the Angel of the Covenant predicted by the prophets. Thus, people from all of Jerusalem and all the outskirts of the Jordan came to him (see Mark 1:5).
In the holy books of the Old Testament, there are prophecies of all of the main events in the life of Jesus the Messiah. The prophet Micah identified the place of birth: "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting" (Mic. 5:2).
The Word of God demonstrated the great spiritual gifts of the future Anointed One. "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord" (Isa. 11:1-2). All of this was fulfilled by Jesus: "... the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes" (Matt. 7:28-29).
Through the prophets, the Holy Spirit indicated a special distinguishing feature of the Messiah, the extraordinary power of wonderworking: "He will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert" (Isa. 35:4-6). When the two men came to Jesus from John the Baptist to ask, "Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?" (Luke 7:20), the Lord before all else points to the miracles he has performed: "The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me" (Luke 7:22-23). The people knew that the Messiah would be characterized by the miracles he performed. "Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?” (Matt. 12:22-23).
A mind corrupted by sin could not notice the parts of the Old Testament in which the spiritual qualities of the promised Messiah are given: "Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass" (Zech. 9:9).
  1. The Jews, having rejected the Messiah as the incarnate Son of God, could not remain in the scope of the Revelation given in the Old Testament. Gradually, to the Law given by God, the Pharisees and scribes added 613 commandments: 365 positive commandments and 248 negative commandments.
The Lord rebukes the Hebrew teachers of the law. "For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men" (Mark 7:8). Faith in God as a real, absolute Person—this is monotheism—is replaced by ritualism. In Judaism, the authority of the Talmud is greater than the Torah (Pentateuch). The famed rabbi Adin Steinsaltz writes, "If the Torah is the foundation of Judaism, then the Talmud is the central pillar supporting the entire spiritual and philosophical edifice. In many ways, the Talmud is the most important book in Jewish culture, the backbone of creativity and of national life. No other work has had a comparable influence on the theory and practice of Jewish life. The Jews always recognized that as a people, their preservation and development depends on the study of the Talmud" ("What is the Talmud?").
What is this "central pillar" of Judaism? I will introduce an excerpt from the Tract Sabbath, with commentary from Rabbi Pinchas Kehati: "The cripple may go out with his wooden leg; such is the decree of Rabbi Meir, but Rabbi Jose prohibits it. If the wooden leg has a receptacle for pads, it is subject to defilement. Crutches are subject to defilement by being sat or trodden upon; but one may go out with them on Sabbath and enter the outer court (of the Temple). The chair and crutches of a paralytic are subject to defilement, and one must not go out with them on the Sabbath nor enter the outer court (of the Temple). Stilts are not subject to defilement, but nevertheless one must not go out with them on Sabbath."
Commentary: "The cripple, a man with one amputated leg, may go out on the Sabbath on his wooden leg, an artificial leg, made according to the size of his shin. Such is the decree of Rabbi Meir, who believes that an artificial leg corresponds to footwear, while Rabbi Jose forbids the cripple from going out with his wooden leg on the Sabbath. According to him, it does not correspond to footwear because the cripple stands primarily with his hands on a cane, while the artificial leg is only for appearance's sake so that his physical handicap would go unnoticed. Thus, the artificial leg on Sabbath is seen as an unnecessary load, and it is prohibited to enter with it. According to the other point of view, Rabbi Jose agrees that the artificial leg equates to footwear, however he is afraid that the man will detach it and will carry over 4 cubits into the public domain, but Rabbi Meir does not have this fear.
I risk fatiguing the reader, but I will introduce one more place from the Talmud to fully portray the spiritual deadness of ritualism. “There are two acts constituting the transfer (of things which are prohibited) on the Sabbath, which are in turn subdivided into four for a man who finds himself inside a private domain (reshut hayachid). The two acts are, however, increased to four for a man who finds himself outside in the public domain (reshut harabim). How so? For example, a mendicant stands outside (in reshut harabim) and the master of a house inside (in reshut hayachid). The mendicant passes his hand into the house (through for example a window) and puts something into the hand of the master (let's say a basket, so that he might give him a piece of bread), or (another variation) the mendicant reaches out and takes something from the master's hand (a piece of bread). In these two cases, the mendicant is breaking the law of the Sabbath, but the host is not. Or, if the master of the house (being inside) passes his hand through a window and puts, say, a piece of bread, into the hand of the mendicant, or, having put out his hand, he takes an object (a basket) from the hands of the mendicant, who is standing outside on the street, and brings it into the house, the master of the house would have broken the law of the Sabbath, but not the mendicant. This is the first part of the Mishna, which has demonstrated to us what the “two acts” of transferring objects mean, from the position of one who is inside, and from the position of one who finds himself outside. Carrying out any of these acts on the Sabbath is prohibited" (Tract Sabbath).[1]
Instead of a living faith in a merciful God and love towards one’s fellow man, entire volumes of the Talmud are filled with the sophistic disputes of various rabbinical schools over what to do with an egg laid by a chicken on the Sabbath, or about a host giving bread to a beggar, so that he does not break the Sabbath.
What a huge spiritual distance there was between the prophets and the scribes! The first to shine in the faith were those who participated in the source of heavenly wisdom, while others directed their extraordinary erudition to "solving" questions irrelevant to life. The lawyers occasionally thrashed out whether one may move a ladder from one dovecote to another on feast days.
It is obvious that religious life, in which ritualism is the determining principle, will become formalistic. "Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men" (Isa. 29:13).
Falling away from the living source of Truth will inevitably lead to dissolution and barrenness. In medieval European church art, the contrast between Christianity and Judaism was allegorically represented in the form of two female figures: the Church and the Synagogue. The south portal of the transept (cross aisle) of the cathedral in Strasbourg (approx. 1230) is decorated with such sculptures. The woman representing the Church, clearly and confidently carries a cross in her right hand as if resting on it. The straight folds of her cloak, flowing down to the ground, make her figure solid and firm. Her head is crowned. Her gaze is cast into the distance. The figure of the synagogue holds to her body a spear broken in several places. The bend of the figure repeats the broken line. Scrolls fall out of her left hand. Her head is downcast. Her eyes are blindfolded, a symbol of spiritual darkness.
  1. The next phase of Judaism's retreat from Biblical monotheism was the rise and expansion among the Jews of Kabbalah (in Hebrew qabbalah means acceptance or tradition) of mystical teachings and practices. This esoteric theosophical teaching is in spirit and letter absolutely foreign to the Holy Scripture. Two books initiate an exposition of Kabbalah: Sefer Yetzirah (the Book of Creation) and Zohar (Splendor of Radiance). The former was likely written in the sixth and seventh centuries B.C. Confirmation by the Kabbalists themselves of the existence of Sefer Yetzirah already during the time of patriarch Abraham is absolutely mythical and has no evidence. On the contrary, the presence in these books of philosophical ideas of late antiquity, such as Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, and others, completely refutes this view. The author of Zohar is believed to be the Spanish Kabbalist Moshe (Moses) de Leon. It was written in approximately 1300 A.D. The desire of modern Kabbalists to make the author of Zohar the disciple of rabbi Akiva Shimon Bar Yochai (Laitman, M. The Book of Zohar. M., 2003. p. 185)[2] , who lived in the second century A.D., contradicts the view of experts. "The Aramaic language of all eighteen of these sections is throughout the same, and throughout it displays the same individual peculiarities. This is all the more important because it is not in any sense a living language which Simeon ben Yohai and his colleagues in the first half of the second century A.D. in Palestine might have conceivably spoken. The Aramaic of the Zohar is a purely artificial affair, a literary language employed by a writer who obviously knew no other Aramaic than that of certain Jewish literary documents, and who fashioned his own style in accordance with definite subjective criteria. The expectation expressed by some scholars that philological investigation would reveal the older strata of the Zohar has not been borne out by actual research. Throughout these writings, the spirit of mediaeval Hebrew, specifically the Hebrew of the thirteenth century, is transparent behind the Aramaic facade" (Scholem, G. (1954). Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism. p. 163).[3]
Kabbalah is divided into the contemplative (Kabbalah Iyunit) and practical (Kabbalah Maasit). The central aspect of the Kabbalah is Ein Sof (The Infinite). In contrast to the God of the Holy Scriptures, Ein Sof has no name because he is without person, unknowable, and incomprehensible. No attributes can be ascribed to him. Ein Sof makes himself known in his manifestations (not to all, but to Jewish mystics). Ein Sof's chief manifestation is the original man, Adam Kadmon. Through his emanations (flows) the ten sefirot come into being, which are the attributes of God. Ten sefirot represent the mystical body of Adam Kadmon (heavenly Adam). He appears as a result of emanation and has no image or form. The earthly Adam was created in the image of heavenly Adam. The tenth sefirot is called "the Kingdom" or Malkuth. It unites all ten sefirot. In Zohar, Malkuth—or Kingdom—denotes how the Knesset (assembly) of Israel is a mystical prototype of the House of Israel (Shekhinah). In The Dialectics of Myth (XIV. 3), Aleksei Losev writes, “As a very well-educated Jew and great expert of Kabbalistic and Talmudic literature (from which I, with the nasty habits of a European observer, sought to learn exclusively about the Neoplatonic influences in Kabbalah) told me, the essence of all Kabbalah does not at all consist in pantheism, as liberal scholars think, who compare the doctrine of Ein Sof and the Sephirot with Neo-Platonism, but rather with pan-Israelitism: the Kabbalistic God needs Israel for His own salvation, He was incarnated in Israel and became it. Therefore the myth of the world domination by a deified Israel, which is forever contained in God.”
Kabbalists have established a correspondence among the different sefirot with parts of the human body. Becoming familiar with this primitive mythological arrangement of the structure of the universe, it becomes difficult to ignore the question that Kabbalists themselves do not ask: What is the source of this "knowledge"? How does one manage to conclude that the sefirot of the Crown (Keter) is the brow, the Tiferet is the chest, Victory (Netzach) and Majesty (Hod) is man's hip?
The esoteric teachings of Sefer Yetzirah and the Zohar are fundamentally incompatible with the biblical teaching on God, the world, man, and humanity's path to salvation. Contemplative Kabbalah represents a combination of elements of Gnosticism of the second and third centuries A.D. and Neo-Platonism. From the Gnostics, it borrows the teaching of the 10 eons, which comprise the pleroma (universal fullness). Dualism is the link between Gnostics and Kabbalists; the idea of eternal enmity began with good (light) and evil (darkness). Kabbalah's dualistic world view finds a direct expression in Sefer Yetzirah: "Also Elohim made every object, one opposite the other: good opposite evil, evil opposite good, good from good, evil from evil, the good delineates the evil and the evil delineates the good, good is kept for the good and evil is kept for the evil.” It is evident that the teaching, which ascribes evil an ontological status, leads to the justification of evil. In contrast, according to the Holy Scripture, evil was not created by God, but arose as a result of the abuse of the gift of freedom given by God to his creatures, Angels and mankind.
Kabbalistic teaching is an obvious expression of pantheism, a complete retreat from monotheism. God and the world are understood as one complete whole. The world is only a manifestation of God. Pantheism is fraught with internal contradictions. Its logical consequence is inevitably first the derogation of God, and next, denial of him, because all of the world's imperfections are attributed to him.
Kabbalists divide the world into male and female elements. The right and left spheres are respectively male and female. The world is presented as a loving union, as the unification of male and female elements. The relationship between the spheres is interpreted with the help of gender symbolism.
Kabbalah presents itself as a fantastical mix of esoteric occultism, blended with pagan religious and philosophical ideas. It attests to a complete regression from the great and saving teachings of the Bible with its deep and sustained monotheism.

2024.05.18 19:23 SonorantPlosive Family trying to replace NP? Another covert narc?

I estranged from my parents almost 7 years ago. In that time, an aunt, who has also been estranged from my parents, has come back into my life. It started with convos on Messenger about 3 years ago to texts and emails, never phone calls. It helped to have someone else who had a different perspective explain why my parents were so weird, and that it hadn't been just me.
When I first told her I had estranged, she told me, "I will be your mom." I told her that wasn't what I wanted, I just wanted family I could talk with. She seemed to understand, but in the past 6 months, she has started being kind of creepy and pushy. Like around Thanksgiving, talking about it would be better when would all be together to celebrate. Same at Christmas. Didn't even text me at Easter except to ask if I had PTO to use. I have made it very clear that I don't want to go back there. She lives near my parents, and my brother actually moved not that far from her. I don't want to drive 9 hours to sit in a house I haven't been in for 20+ years, afraid to go outside or have it get back to my parents that I visited her and not them. I don't want to see them but I don't want to do things that will actively rub salt in the wound like that.
My SO seems to think my aunt is trying to use me as a replacement for her trans son. She never really has accepted his choices since he transitioned (cousin's words), and he's even told me how my aunt cried about not getting to do the "mother daughter wedding plans." SO and I are planning to get married and he wonders if that is tripping my aunt out.
Just today, I got a barrage of texts and then phone calls all before 8:30 AM. I had been sleeping, I have that awful stomach bug and I'm up half the night with it. The texts are just this panic "are you ok? I haven't heard from you. I'm worried. Please pick up." Type of dramatics. I put my phone on silent and went back to sleep until just about an hour ago (noon). 16 more messages and 8 missed calls. She's saying she's calling the cops if she doesn't hear from me today on a wellness check. SO was already outside working, I went out and showed him. He seems to think she is starting to show her narc side too. I last texted her at Easter. We don't text much at all since she started pushing about "being my mom" and us visiting. It has been a month. SO texted her that I'm fighting a bug and work has been extra busy, and we have been busy after work with the usual spring outdoors work. And that if anything was wrong with me, he would make sure to let her know.
She just texted me that she got a message from SO that I'm fine but she wants to hear it from me. I'm about to go off on her. Before I do, any insight? Is this a narc revealing herself or just a psychotic episode? Either way, a solid boundary is going up today.
Thanks.

2024.05.18 16:49 ahmd-sh Stuck in a loop between asking permissions and updating Google Map.

Hi,
I'm working on a simple one page app. The app has a scaffold with a map widget (GoogleMaps), and there are buttons for centering the map to the user's current location. I basically want the app to check if the user has location on (if not, it should show a snack bar with an option to go to the locations page), and then request location permission, and then update the map.
I've already implemented the above functionality. The problem I'm facing is how to order these actions. I have the following functions:
There is a floating action button that calls centerToUser on press.
Here's what I want the behaviour of the app to be:
I have the individual pieces working, but where I'm confused is where and when to call my functions.
I tried calling centerToUser in initState, but the snackbars need a BuildContext if I'm not wrong.
GoogleMap() has an onMapCreated property. I'm checking if userLocation variable is NULL or not and moving the map camera directly to either the user location, or the default location.
Really struggling with finding the best way to go about this. I don't use any state management packages in the app like Riverpod.
Here's some of the code in case it helps...
part of 'map_page.dart'; class MapPageState extends State { late GoogleMapController mapController; LatLng? userLocation; final LatLng _center = const LatLng( MapConstants.defaultLatitude, MapConstants.defaultLongitude, ); @override void initState() { super.initState(); // THE SNACKBARS NEED CONTEXT, BUT initState DOESN'T HAVE A PROPER CONTEXT IF I'M NOT WRONG... centerMapToUserLocation(context); } Future _determinePosition(BuildContext context) async { bool serviceEnabled; LocationPermission permission; // Test if location services are enabled. serviceEnabled = await Geolocator.isLocationServiceEnabled(); if (!serviceEnabled) { // I FELT LIKE THIS IS A GOOD PLACE TO HAVE THE SNACKBAR CODE, BUT IT WILL BE REPEATED WITH SLIGHT MODIFICATIONS A LOT ScaffoldMessenger.of(context).showSnackBar( SnackBar( content: const Text('Please enable location services.'), action: SnackBarAction( label: 'Undo', onPressed: () { Geolocator.openLocationSettings(); }, ) ) ); return Future.error('Location services are disabled.'); } permission = await Geolocator.checkPermission(); if (permission == LocationPermission.denied) { permission = await Geolocator.requestPermission(); if (permission == LocationPermission.denied) { // SHOW SNACKBAR WITHOUT ACTION return Future.error('Location permissions are denied'); } } if (permission == LocationPermission.deniedForever) { // SHOW SNACKBAR WITH ACTION return Future.error( 'Location permissions are permanently denied, we cannot request permissions.'); } // When we reach here, permissions are granted and we can // continue accessing the position of the device. return await Geolocator.getCurrentPosition( desiredAccuracy: LocationAccuracy.high); } Future centerMapToUserLocation(BuildContext context) async { try { Position currentLocation = await _determinePosition(context); userLocation = LatLng( currentLocation.latitude, currentLocation.longitude, ); animateToLocation(userLocation!); } catch (e) { debugPrint('Error getting user location: $e'); // OR SHOULD I BUILD SNACKBARS HERE DEPENDING ON THE ERROR? } } void animateToLocation(LatLng coordinates) { mapController.animateCamera( CameraUpdate.newCameraPosition( CameraPosition(target: coordinates, zoom: MapConstants.zoomLevel)), ); } void _onMapCreated(GoogleMapController controller) { mapController = controller; if (userLocation != null) { animateToLocation(userLocation!); } else { animateToLocation(_center); } } @override Widget build(BuildContext context) { return Scaffold( ..... body: buildMapBody(context), ); } Widget buildMap() { return ..... GoogleMap( onMapCreated: _onMapCreated, myLocationEnabled: true, myLocationButtonEnabled: false, initialCameraPosition: CameraPosition(target: _center, zoom: MapConstants.zoomLevel), ), ], ), ), ); } void handleChangeLocation(LatLng coordinates) { animateToLocation(coordinates); } Widget buildBottomBar(BuildContext context) { return ..... ..... FloatingActionButton( onPressed: () => centerMapToUserLocation(context), child: const Icon( TablerIcons.current_location, size: AppDimensions.iconSizeLg, ), ), ], ), ), ); } }

2024.05.18 13:16 OsrsAus Messenger has become unusable

I've moved over to Telegram and am trying to encourage more of my irl contacts to do the same because the App has quite literally become unusable. I'm in disbelief this comes from a multi billion dollar company, let alone they think this acceptable. Has become one of the worst IM apps on the market. I would quite literally rate it a 1.5/10 if I could.

2024.05.18 07:13 nxcl3 AITAH for not accepting my moms birthday offers of dinner with my incest loving brother or a couple items from dollar tree

i F21 have my birthday today May 18. this post is going to be a bit long im sorry but i feel like i have to give a lot of back context. i do not live with my mom and i havent since i was F18, i’ve been living with my bf M23 at the time M20 because she stole thousands (roughly 15K) from MY social security benefits after my dad passed. anyways my mom told me for my birthday i had two options of what she would do for me. i could either go on a family dinner or i could get a couple things from the dollar tree. my mom gets paid around 1200 every single week. also the family dinner isn’t a real family dinner because i have 14 siblings and she only claims 3-5 depending on what day you ask her, the “family” she’s considering in this situation is her, my younger brother 18M and her boyfriend which is his dad. my younger brother just got out of juvi/jail he’s been there for like 3-4 years for GTA. when we were younger M11 and me F13 and lived together with our abusive aunt (her sister) he ended up coming into my room one night and tried to get me to have sex with him and i refused and told him how i’m his sister and he tried to get me to give him head and i still refused. ever since then i’ve obviously been uncomfortable around him. while he was in jail/juvi he confessed what he did and under the eyes of the state i was considered a victim and he was no longer allowed to talk to me. i told my mom what happened as well and so did he but she never cared. the only person that cared was his dad which is quite literally a prodigy of incest and he told my brother that what he did was wrong which was why my brother came clean while locked up. however while he was locked up despite me not talking to him my mom was sending him pics of me without my consent and even sent pics of me in a bikini style top. my brother got released less than a month ago and has since made multiple facebook pages to try to friend me and has called and texted my messenger several times but i won’t answer. i told my mom i didn’t want to see him and especially not for my birthday and she told me fine you can get the couple things from dollar tree and i told her no thank you it’s okay we don’t have to do anything and now she’s saying i’m being rude and disrespectful

2024.05.18 05:46 BundivorousTheGreat 16 hours down

Fell into the trap of dating app>Instagram>WhatsApp>dirty vid chat. They threatened to send this video to people in what appears to be chats with family members Facebook friends list (linked to Instagram?) ready to send them the video.
I didn’t open the video or any of their photo attachments of people they would send it too, however I could see one photo preview of a Facebook messenger chat with a friend who has the same last name as me but not related. I’m assuming they gathered names of people in my friends list and assumed anyone with my last name must be a family member… which isn’t the case. Maybe 4/6 friends with the same last name after my family member. So it seems like they must be only threatening to send it to my assumed family members.
I’m waiting for a call from my Dad to see if he has received anything but honestly after stressing the fuck out in the last 16 hours I don’t give a crap anymore. After reading this sub it seems like these spam messages would be sent to “Message requests” on Facebook messenger and my friends/family likely will never even see the message, or just palm it off as spam anyway. If anyone receives it and asks me about it, I’m just gonna palm it off and blame in on AI and move on.
So thanks to this sub for making me feel better relieving my anxiety a bit. I’m keeping socials deactivated for a few days, have deactivated iMessage so they can only text with a number (which costs them money) if and if they do I will continue to block/report and not pay them a cent.

2024.05.18 02:22 Fabulous-Device-6909 FWB

I'm a single Mom of 2 teens and I've been at my job 3 years since February. Shortly after I started I was approached by a coworker who asked me my name and made small talk. It was pretty obvious to me he was flirting. I didn't really give it much thought. I later found out he's actually one of the supervisors. A short while after meeting him he asked me out and I said I had a boyfriend (a lie). Then about a year after that one day while he and I were working together we were having a nice conversation. Even though he'd pretty much ignored me up to that point. So he offered to buy my lunch and we took our lunch break together that day. He asked me out again this time he was more persistent. So against my better judgment I said yes to a date. On the date he tells me he has a g/f and he's not looking for a relationship. So I tell him ok I'm not looking for a relationship either. The way he was talking he wanted a fwb. So over the next 2 years we spent a lot of time together. Eventually he met my kids and we were always either on the phone with each other and spending time together. During the course of those 2 years there were so many red flags. I know now that he's a habitual liar & has a compulsion for flirting with women and asking them out. Even when they're not interested. A major red flag was his hygiene. I'm not exaggerating when I say that he will wear the same work uniform and personal clothes for days at a time without washing them. Even after they have stains and smell horrible. When I worked up the courage after a year to confront him about his body odor he told me "I know I stink!" It was as if he thinks he has no control over his own hygiene. I warned him on several different occasions and in great detail that I would not continue to be friends with him if he didn't work on some of these issues. Including his hygiene. So the final straw for me was I found out about another lie he told me. Even though he always insisted he never lied to me and didn't like being called a liar. This was when things got even weirder! He didn't take my decision well at all. I blocked him on FB messenger, IG, Cashapp, I blocked his number and the other number he text me from. He said that his Mom was sick and he needed to talk to me about it cause I could understand. My Mom died from epilepsy. He told me the Dr ran tests and found markers of Cancer in his testicles and his testosterone is low that's why he doesn't get erections anymore. He even showed up at my house uninvited. I told my manager about what happened since it was really getting out of control and I was scared. It's been about a month since I ended the friendship. We aren't scheduled together anymore so I don't have to see him or work with him and he hasn't tried to call or text me or come by my apt. I only posted this cause another coworker said I should cause this story is so incredibly weird. I left out alot of the smaller details to keep this from being too long. Basically I'm still in shock that this all happened. I've heard about people who are sociopaths or psychopaths or whatever and I've never known one as far as I know. The strangest part of this whole thing to me was he never showed any real emotion about anything. He was just apathetic. Also he really doesn't respect boundaries. He told me he was suspended for 2 weeks for inappropriate behavior with another coworker and someone complained. He even harassed a girl so bad she quit. I heard that he sent her money on cashapp and tried to go out with her and kept trying to start conversations with her at work. What makes me sad is he should be fired and he needs professional help because when he harasses women he doesn't think he's done anything wrong. He excuses his behavior when the woman clearly wasn't interested and he kept going. I hope that whoever reads this gets something out of it. Whether it's entertainment or maybe my situation sounds like someone you know and this encourages you to make the choice to cut ties. I honestly believe that there isn't enough talking for some people. They just don't care about boundaries and that is a very dangerous person.

2024.05.18 01:45 LifeOfVanityJ How I found out what "Gaslighting" was.

Being an adult now and looking back at my childhood till now realizing that I've been gasoline through my entire life mainly by my mother. The only thing that sucks is that I did not find out what gas lighting was until I was in my early twenties. I was single for a few years and decided to mingle. Upon mingling I stumbled across someone that I didn't think would give me the time of day. Which was funny because they were the one to reach out first. After talking for a while we decided to meet up and watch anime we both loved anime that's how we connected so easily. So I made some food and we watched anime and hung out. A little bit more. And they asked if they can come over again before leaving. I told them that that was perfectly fine, after them coming over for the second time this started to be a weekly thing they would come over every week maybe once a week or a few times a week. But they were on contract so they decided to go back home once their contract had ended which I understood we didn't even agree to make anything like serious or anything like that. So a good couple of months had passed but they ended up coming back for more contract work but this time before they came back they asked if they could stay with me for the duration of their contract. Which I told him this was fine and once arriving we went over for the details about the arrangements. I disclosed to them that they could have my living room because nobody really ever came over and we didn't use our living room and I had the means to turn it into another room. And we could just let bygones be bygones but I told them that if they were trying to sleep in my bed every day that wouldn't work out unless they were actually trying to be more than friends. They had disclosed to me that they actually wanted to be more than friends and that's why they had came over so much prior to the contract ending. Which I believed because of the kind of energy that was brought every time they were around. After discussing it further we came to an agreement and they decided to be in my room. I proceeded to do my daily routine and they implemented their own daily routine for themselves. I made sure the house was clean, breakfast, lunch, dinner was made because I'm the type of person that if anybody is in my house if I'm cooking for myself I'm going to cook for you as well. 2 months in they asked how I would feel if I came back home with them what's their contract ended, and asked me to start looking at places to price them and potentially even move in a month or so before their contract ended to get the house situated and whatnot. I had already met majority of this person's family the first time they came around with a contract. And throughout this time almost every other weekend we're going back to their home to visit their family. More relationships are being developed with these family members and memories are being made. I really thought I was going to marry this person and be with this person for the rest of my life. Once they got comfortable I started to see more red flags. They were drinking a lot, to the point where they were drinking on their way to work if not at work. Sometimes wouldn't even come home or would just pop up at home without even telling me that they left work early. The first incident they told me that their co-workers were having a birthday party in Atlanta which was less than 3 hours away from me at the time. I was very Confucius because this person had already told me they didn't have any friends at work. But I was just like whatever have fun I'll call you here and there to check on you okay. so they left and I called periodically or texted periodically to check on them while they were gone and they responded they were supposed to be back that sunday. Around the time that they were supposed to be back, and I realized that they weren't I kept calling. And I also was texting. I was really worried because they like to drive really fast. So I wasn't sure if they got into an accident or if there was some altercation with police or something. I was very worried. They called me that Monday morning and told me that they have spent the night in jail, when I asked to see the police report or the court order for their court date they didn't have any physical documentation. I asked them to tell me what was going on and they were like I told you I spent the night in jail. I don't like to argue so I just said okay and we proceeded to carry on as before. Then it got to the point where they wouldn't say hi to me when they came inside, they wouldn't even say bye to me when they left let alone I love you. And if I said I love you when they responded it sounded very forced. This person made me discover what a panic attack was. At the time I didn't know what panic attacks were. I had my very first panic attack I was in the bathroom which is literally connected to the bedroom in the bed is less than 50ft away from the bathroom, the building was insulated poorly so you could hear everything the walls were as then it's paper. As I was in that bathroom feeling like I could not breathe and that I was dying and I was gasping for air this person just laid on the bed on their phone. Now I know what you're thinking why don't you just tell them to get out, at the time I was so blinded by love and not the fact that I didn't have no income my car had got stolen I really needed this person's help with bills until I got situated. They told me not to worry about having to pay for any bills when they originally came. So I was trying to figure out a different outlet because it didn't feel right and I wanted them to leave I didn't feel like myself. Whenever I would express my concerns and or emotions they will automatically get offended and say the opposite of what I was accusing them of or blame me for what I was accusing them of and as soon as I reacted the way they wanted me to they would be like see I told you you were the crazy one or is he you thought I was tripping or stuff like that. This person really made me feel like I was losing my mind and I was slowly losing myself in the process. My sister decided once I had discussed with her everything that was going on to message them on messenger. Mind you, this person has never seen or met my sister let alone knew her name. Literally within the first not even 10 minutes of talking they tell her that they will fly her down and all kinds of craziness. She proceeded to ask them if they were in a relationship and they automatically said no that they were in the location that they were in for work. Upon seeing these I got frustrated. And I was really heartbroken and had another panic attack. I let him know that I needed to speak with him when they got home. They eventually responded and didn't even give me a chance to speak with them when they got home. Proceeding to tell me that they were not attracted to me anymore and that they were in love with someone else. The first thing I asked was so when you went to Atlanta you were with somebody else and lied to me about going to jail? And then I proceeded to show screenshots of the messages between them and my sister. They still denied everything and called me crazy. A couple days passed and they told me that they were sorry and that they were just dealing with some things immensely because something happened with the family member getting SA'd, which I am a victim of SA myself so I didn't even think twice about it. And proceeded to tell me to look for housing per usual. Even brought me gifts of things that I wanted and or needed for the house. I'm a victim of a domestic violence relationship. Which was mostly physical, I never understood or even knew that there could be emotional and mental violence controlling a relationship as well. And well this person was mentally and emotionally abusing me and I was completely unaware. One day we were laying in bed and they kept kind of turning their phone at an angle to where I couldn't see their phone and I didn't realize that they were doing that at first until actually watch them coming out of the bathroom and I thought it was weird. When they were getting ready to put their phone down and showed their lock screen it was a whole different person on the lock screen originally their lock screen had always been since I'd known them their car because they had purchased their dream car. So when I saw this and didn't recognize the person after meeting basically the entire family I was a bit confused. I waited and eventually brought it to their attention. Which caused another argument obviously. I was told I was overreacting and I didn't have anything to worry about but at the end of it they ended up leaving me. I was so confused because I couldn't understand what I did wrong. Because of that I ended up not being able to maintain my bills and having to go back home and stay with my parents for a bit. I wasn't even home for 2 weeks and they sent me a picture of their car totaled and I asked if they were okay, once they confirm that they were okay I proceeded to say karma's a b**** ain't it. After sharing my story and full detail with my best friend whom I didn't really speak with at the time, she explained to me that I was gasoline throughout the entire relationship it went into further detail explaining what gas lighting was. And after realizing that my primary parent is a narcissistic gaslighter it made me understand why I felt so comfortable around it and why I was confused all the time let alone even understanding what a gaslighter was.

2024.05.17 22:54 No-Departure-9317 AITAH for not letting my kids go to a family graduation/ get together.

Little back story.
The 3 kids that this has to do with are 8, 10, and 12 (they were 5, 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 when he died)
My kids biological dad passed away 7 years ago in May. We had been together for 6 1/2 years (off and on) at the point he died.
We did separate 2 times when he chose drugs over our family until he got clean, which he was gone for months both times.
But one morning I found him on the floor OD. I called his family, and his dad and sister came over and seemed super sympathetic at first.
I ended up moving in with his mom because she offered and said it would help not only her with grieving but that way the kids and I wouldn't have to be where their dad passed away.
Within 2 months she demanded that she needed to keep everything that had belong to him (even things that were mine because she considered it was his), the sister started calling and sending me texts that I killed him, the mom called CPS saying I attacked my daughter (2 years old at the time), I tried leaving state because it was too much to handle and they called the cops on me, and then the mom kicked us out without any warning and said we needed to leave.
I thankfully bought a house and was able to have a stable place for my kids within a month of her kicking us out. But I did remove his family from our lives for about 6 months. I was going through issues being a single mom, working full time, trying to help my kids through their dad's passing, and I decided having them verbally and mentally hurt me was not needed to I kept us away.
The mom did message me about coming over for the kids to get Christmas gifts that year and little by little in the past 7 years we have gotten a much better relationship. The kids have slept a couple times at her place and we have gone over for Thanksgiving dinners and have invited then over for BBQ or birthdays.
But she's the only one in the family that has anything to do with us.
They all know my number, they all have me on Facebook, and I even have them on the kids "kids messenger" so if they wanted to they can talk to them.
The only times anyone has seen them is when I invited the over for my son's birthday in 2018 and only the grandpa showed up (grandma did too but she she's then often), and in 2019 I brought them to their great grandma's birthday. At the party the sister came over, said hi, and took a picture with the kids and then instantly left.
There hasn't been any contact, asking how they are or how they are doing, no invites for birthdays or even get togethers. They live maybe 30 minutes away.
A couple days ago I got a message from the grandma asking me if she could take my 10 and 12 year old with her for another granddaughters graduation. The drive is about 5 hours long. She brought up how everyone in the family wants to see them and this will give a chance for the grandpa and the sister to see my kids (the same people who live 30 minutes from me).
I feel like they would talk bad about me in front of my kids, talk bad about my husband who has been there for almost 6 years now helping raise them, or even them not bringing them back (they tried taking them from me when the dad first died).
Maybe I need someone who can see it from another perspective but I don't think I am in the wrong for not wanting them to go.
AITAH for not wanting to let them go?

I Have 3 Duplicate Back Buttons?
I have a Galaxy Fold 3, I'm not even sure when this happened, but somehow my phone shows 2 overlaying back buttons with zero functionality to me, and I was wondering if anyone knows what it's about?
And this might be random and unrelated, but I got a notification from my friend in messenger that showed Arabic text in the notification bubble when he reacted to my text, which has never happened before, and won't happen again no matter how many times we try. I'm full of confusion 😩😅

2024.05.17 19:39 No-Bag-818 Yan ID Idea Because I'm Bored And I Think It'd Be Fun (LoR Spoilers)

And I'm not talking some normal ass Index Messenger either, cause that'd be boring as fuck for Yan.
I'm talking about attempting to bring over, in some way, Distorted Yan as a Limbus ID.
I've only ever done this kinda thing once, and that was with a Rat ID post I did forever ago and deleted nearly immediately. So if I cook so hard/horrifically that I burn down the kitchen and make us eat HamHamPangPang for the next week, you can thank me later.
So to get started...
How Should The ID Work?
I believe it should be a Negative Sanity version of Dawn Sinclair, where instead of wanting to stay at high Sanity while it constantly drains, you need to properly balance the naturally and constant Sanity loss to maintain that -30 to -40 range for good rolls but not hit -45 to fully distort (not Corrode. I'll get to that).
Your main method to maintain SP would be clashes and external SP Support, but I believe also adding in damage threshold conditionals on One-Sided attacks would make sense for when enemies are Staggered. Make clashes neutral for SP, while One-Sided are only slightly negative.
Natural SP Drain would be constant, and would get progressively worse after a few turns have passed. Maybe make it start at -5 at turn start, and go up to a cap of -7 or -8. I'm just spitballing numbers here, I'm not a game designer, they're just here to give an impression of what I'm going for. The idea is to have the drain always be a factor to keep in mind, but not have it be nearly uncontrollable in later stages like Dawn Sinclair's amped up drain in EGO form. Maybe also have any Sanity restoration effects from clashes/one-sides be negated while above -15 or -20 so as to avoid a dreadfully slow crawl to a decent Sanity range for somewhat consistent coin flips. This could be tied to the Passive as well.
The consequence (or benefit, depending on your view point) for not properly managing this IDs SP would be...
Unique Panic: Distortion
When you hit -45 SP, the ID will distort into the Distorted Yan form we know and love, with a hair swap depending on who has this ID (otherwise, how will we know who it is?).
This functions just like an EGO Corrosion, but with unique quirks. For one, it's independent of equipped EGOs, because I plan to have this ID replace an EGO slot (what rank, I don't know) with Distorted Blade that will always be the selected Corrosion target.
Corroded Distorted Blade will be a very high damaging AoE that also applies Erosion. When used, it has a higher chance of targeting allies than enemies, and damages the user as well. This is to prevent wanting to purposefully Distort constantly to cleave through encounters. When used this way, I believe it should also consume some amount of every EGO resource, to prevent just easily healing back the damage with a Fluid Sac or something.
The intent is that you do not want to Distort. It serves as a punishment for not properly managing your SP. While purposefully Distorting to drop a Distorted Blade should be a valid strategy, it should also come with a heavy cost to disincentivise constant use of it.
What Erosion will do, since Rupture basically is Ruina's Erosion, I believe should be a max health decrease. Since Distorted Blade is more likely to hit allies, the idea is that surviving a Distorted Blade and healing back up will make it harder to do so next time. That also means that Distorted Blade hitting an enemy is essentially you getting lucky, since not a lot of enemies heal to begin with.
Perhaps all that is a bit too costly, but again, I hope you see what I'm going for here.
Skills, Passives, and Distorted Blade outside of the Distorted Panic effect
This will be the most scuffed part, cause I'm not a game designer, nor an expert on balance. So I'll try to refrain from giving any hard numbers in an attempt to not look like a fucking idiot.
Firstly, Distorted Blade when used outside of the Distortion Panic effect will still be an AoE, but not nearly as high damaging, and with a different effect. I think mass Rupture count application would be a good idea here, as that's the Status I want this ID to fall under.
The Skills would be Rupture focused as well.
Skill 1 being a general average Skill 1, with nothing special about it. Maybe a 1 or 2 coin with a single count application to not eat into Rupture stacks too much.
Skill 2 would generate count based on a Sanity conditional. The lower your Sanity, the more count applied.
Skill 3 would be a Rupture detonate. One single big hit, that causes multiple hits worth of Rupture to proc, at the cost of only 1 count. Mathematically, this could also just be (Rupture Potency × Conditional = Extra Applied Damage). As just mentioned, this also has a Sanity Conditional, where the lower your Sanity the higher the damage. In this case, being at or under -35 SP would be 2, at or under -40 would be 3, and specially, at -45 would be 4, if we go down one of the routes of what the passive may do.
Defense skill would probably be Guard or something, that scales in shield strength dependant on Sanity. The idea would be you would only really use this if you wanted to avoid gaining SP from clashes or actually tank damage.
The Passives, I have multiple ideas for.
One version I thought of was a Res Passive for an uncommon Sin Affinity in Rupture teams that would prevent Panicking next turn, with a small additional effect. This is how you would get the last conditional on the S3. This would let you maintain maximum reliability on coin flips, but would require you to maintain constant uptime on the passive every turn, lest you risk a Distortion and drop a sword on everyone's head like your name is Damocles.
If that would be too powerful, a standard issue Rupture passive perhaps with Sanity conditionals would be fine.
Support Passive, I'm not sure of. Maybe SP Loss to support other Negative Sanity IDs, or even Erosion application to an ally to support low HP playstyles like Shi or Pequod Heathcliff.
Closing Thoughts
The idea of this ID was a high risk/high reward ID that plays with Negative Sanity and a unique Panic/Corrosion that acts as it's biggest risk.
Honestly, I just kinda wanted to theory craft a Distorted Yan ID because I've been enjoying (well... "enjoying") Ruina and really liked his pages (and Children of the City is a banger).
I'm not the most creative person in the world, so I defaulted to standard Status gimmicks with Negative Sanity and a unique Panic as my defining features. But someone who's much more creative than me can probably find a way to translate weirder parts of Distorted Yan's stuff into Limbus like Ominous Power and Sword of Volition for a more interesting ID, and I'd be welcome to hearing that!
Let me know if I cooked or cremated on this as well. I wasn't very confident in that aforementioned Rat ID post I deleted near instantly all those months ago, but I'd like to get some feedback on this one.
Thank you for reading this massive wall of text, if you did, as it's not something us PM fans tend to do very often.

The Biden administration asked Congress for $6.5 billion to fund a new biomedical research agency which would merge “national security” with “health security” in such a way as to use both physical and mental health “warning signs” to prevent outbreaks of disease or violence before they occur.
Such a system is a recipe for a technocratic “pre-crime” organization with the potential to criminalize both mental and physical illness as well as “wrongthink. This agency was to be largely guided by Biden’s confirmed top science adviser, ERIC LANDER. 2024.05.17 13:39 Rationale-Glum-Power Considering treating women much worse in general since I was blocked by a friend I had been friends with for 6 years

I need your advice. I was friends with a girl for 6 years and she blocked me after I asked her for a date. She only blocked me in one messenger so in theory I can still text her everywhere else but I don't think that makes sense. It really hurt me because she means a lot to me and we have a lot in common. We share a lot of traditions and values. We celebrate the same holidays, think the same about relationships and we both don't use bad words. I think I'm just too nice to women in general. That's why I have female friends but no girlfriend. I feel like they take me for granted. I consider treating all women much worse so they don't see me as a nice friend anymore but more as a masculine bad guy that is really mean but kinda hot. I heard girls talk on TikTok about it many times. Also many girls on TikTok say they are in toxic relationships with mean guys they chose to be with and they don't break up with them. Many even say they always end up with mean guys and they have more boyfriends in a year than I had girlfriends in my whole life. Did anyone here make the transition from a friendly and nice man do a really masculine bad guy that treats women really badly?

2024.05.17 13:36 DeepInside7thPlanet Alert! Teenage Scammers (Girls) in Brookvale, Runcorn!

This incident occurred on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. I recently moved to this area from the United States and work here as a software engineer. I am a man of color of Asian origin.
After work, I took a walk to familiarize myself with the neighborhood and visit the nearby Indian store. I sat on a bench opposite Brookvale Primary School, in front of a small playground. After about 15 minutes alone, two young girls approached (vaping, of course) and sat near me. They started a conversation by complimenting my hair and asking several personal questions about where I live, my family, my mother tongue, my work, how long I have been married, and whether my partner and I are together now. I responded politely to all their questions but did not divulge my address, only mentioning it was near the park and you could see a car branded Tesla.
They offered me a vape, which I declined, stating I don't smoke. They continued asking about smoking, drinking, and drug use, and whether I know someone who supplies weed, to which I also answered negatively.
During our interaction, these girls teased every man who passed by, but all were unresponsive to their remarks. Another passerby warned me that they were underage and trying to deceive me. I then ceased answering their questions. One of the girls called me 'Nigga,' and the other cautioned her, 'Don't be racist.' When I was about to leave, they asked about my social media accounts, which I refused to provide. One of the girls, who had made the racial comment, offered her mobile number in case I needed it in the future—I saved it to my phone with the intent of reporting the racial slur to the council or local police, and I haven't messaged or called that number even once. Then I left the area.
These girls then took a picture of me as I was leaving and convinced their mother to falsely claim on Facebook that I was pursuing young girls and had invited them to my home. This post included my picture.
For clarity, I live with six people, including my wife, child, mother-in-law, cousin, and his wife—our home is constantly occupied. I have never asked them to visit my home and would never invite a stranger home.
Upon returning home, I shared the ordeal with my wife. Later, a stranger informed me about the Facebook post, which had already been shared by 32 people, and threatened me and my family, demanding that we vacate our home and was giving death threats.
My wife and I contacted the lady who posted on Facebook via Messenger and explained the situation; she removed the post immediately but remained skeptical about the mobile number sharing. We explained that it was only to report her to the local council/police/her school about the racial remarks she made. My wife asked her , did my husband share any texts or images or calls or any body signs that is inappropriate ? the mother said no then My wife asked her how she came to the conclusion that a person is a threat to young girls and to the community without any evidence. She lives two blocks away from where I live and could have come to inquire about me and my family from the neighbors. My wife asked her to post a counter-message on Facebook about this misunderstanding, which she agreed to but has not done yet.
The mother kept insisting on why I got the number from the girl. We again tried to explain that I did not request the number; she came to my bench and gave me the number and I saved in my mobile because I wanted to report her for her racial remarks.
I still don't understand why they would reverse the entire story and make a Facebook post to assassinate my character. What are their intentions—money, racism, or other motives? I noticed they were teasing all the men passing by that area. I am sharing this to seek advice on handling such situations and to hear from others in Brookvale, Runcorn, near Brookvale Primary School who might have faced similar issues.
We tried to contact the nearby shop owner to obtain CCTV footage, but unfortunately, they didn't have a camera outside the perimeter.
This situation has been causing me significant mental distress over the past few days, impacting both my personal and professional life. Now, I feel anxious about going out and interacting with others. It's truly disheartening to deal with such inconsiderate behavior.Horrible people to be honest!
Thanks.
