2024.05.19 00:01 Horror_Hand_2414 19m (rant) looking for friends/friend bro, read if you want

why is it so hard to make friends?
m19 here from (still in) maryland, and lately i've realized how lonely I am, lmao. I have my hobbies and stuff but yet, I'm so lonely, i have one friend, who's been my friend since middle school, he's my bro. but i realized i legit have no friends..or a friend like me, here's some points I've seen/made 👇🏾
° fake people: there's too many fake people in the world today, worried about “worldly” bull crap or something stupid, wanting to be in drama, coming to you, then completely ignoring you or ghosting, I find it fake, sorta bummy and immature. people don't know the definition of a “friendship” or a “very close bond” like i'm gonna stick beside you no matter what, people don't seem to get that, then play victim when you call them out. people will use you, talk poorly of you, do all things wrong, i can't stand that. which is why i enjoy being more of a loner..i hate fake friends and i am not no fake friend, im sorta clingy
° people have weird interests/and are boring: this is, i guess controversial, tough one? but people have their interests but i've met some people (school/outside) that's into some weird crap, pronouns for one, i dislike folk whose interests are gender crap, not much into anime honestly, i do love harry potter though. i find a lot of people boring and never knowing how to have a conversation, never wanna be like “come over and chill, or let's watch a horror film” or anything like that, i've always wanted a male friend to explore stuff with, let's ride our skateboards around and learn tricks/let's ride through the night, i'd love to explore abandoned places honestly, guess i'm more of an that “emo boy that's always up to something”. i also love a childish person, stupid jokes/pranks are always the best, where's the trustworthy people who'd wanna skate all night and go to a pizza joint and chill at each other places all night watching horror films, (and i love horror. anyone seen the movie terrifer? the conjuring? house of 1000 corpses? lords of salem!!) talking about whatever, even deep conversations all night with pizza. play video games with me if you'd want, im a console player, i enjoy my xbox, we can facetime and play stupid stuff or id come to you and chill. who still plays minecraft lmao, im a huge lover of the grunge, skateboard theme, nighttime themed things, yeah i'm a slytherin 🐍. i can't find people like that. also, any other song writers out there? i love making my own music, rock is dope but it depends on the rock..
° bad places and everyone is untrustworthy/ghetto: i grew up in the hood, not to be prideful but it's sorta easy to see through people and know when stupid crap is going down. it's hard finding friends like you in the area you live in. this goes along with fake friends cause people are fake, users, and ghetto af. like what the hell? i mean like dude, if I'm your friend, i mean that, im not gonna use you for money or betray you for some chick or whoever. people don't seem to get that. i also find it stupid how guys, other males are such simps for women and will completely throw you under the bus for a woman, women do the same with men, it's fake af.
° i hate people/large crowds/groups: this i feel like a lot of people can relate to. i absolutely hate people and not on a “woke” level, but on a “people do too much” level, yes people do too much and they always deny that they're doing too much. i hate big groups, because they always fall, which is a heartbreaker dude..it can be 4 of us, then 3, then 2, then none. i've always prefered a group of 3 or just one guy and myself. this gonna sound weird but i've always wanted a male friend, a guys guy really. i don't really go to skate parks, cause it's usually to many people, doing the most per usual, like there's one by the baltimore harbor, i'd rather go at night due to the amount of people there during the day. it sounds cheesy but i hate people. i really do.
° no one has my interest: this is the same as people having weird interests, but this is true. no one has the same interest as me, and i hear that people with the same interest are the ones that argue a lot, fall apart quickly, or just can't get along, i don't know how true that is entirely. but that's where the communication falls in, talk to me man. if there's an issue, open your mouth! don't be a pussy and keep it to yourself and talk poorly of me and hate me. that's not right, it's wack and lame af. people who do that really need to get themselves in check. like again, i love horror, i love the hell out of horror, its all I watch, anyone here watch mr.nightmare ? on youtube, also people enjoy stupid stuff and stay indoors to much. i get it, being in your space in your smelly room is cool and all, it's america, we hate it here, but personally i think there so much more, like I said I love night time stuff, abandoned houses/churches/stores, etc, i'm always down for it all, guess it's my emo horror obsession haha. anyone want to work and save up money together? where's the people like that who wouldn't steal your money, and dip off, like we save and use it for stuff like pizza, new skateboards, deep woods campfires and outings man. spending the night at each other's place, sneaking into spots! and one thing, building each other up, im the type to help you out, if you feel bad or something, let me know and id help, I know depression runs through a lot of people, and if I had that friend that in looking for in gonna be there, no matter what. that's just the kinda person I am, not satanic lol, just..emo? or grunge? i don't know..
° no one is loyal/have bad families/too sensitive: this is a tough one but im just gonna say it. people aways hated that I have no filter, not that I have a nasty mouth and I always have to put my opinion in stuff, i'm more so very quiet. i also have a dark sense of humor, im black, so i definitely do say racial jokes, not as a insult, but a little humor or whatever. dark humor is always the best. but i have no filter, i'm gonna tell you the truth of what it is, what I enjoy, what I hate, just point blank period, and people hate that, i'm nor gonna sugar coat anything! a true friendship circles and stays strong through truth and open words, if you can't handle that, something is honestly wrong with you fr. families, now. i won't judge you for having a bad home, but what i mean is, completely putting all that, that's not your responsibility in the way. i did that once, as an older sibling, i believe younger siblings aren't no one's responsibility, i once canceled plans to “watch and take care” of siblings when their old enough to watch themselves, which i regret. if you're having a bad time, you always got me there. which falls into loyal, people aren't loyal. which is basically people are fake. im a longterm friendship kinda dude. you're my homie, just like that.
° finally, judging and redflags: i don't judge at all, ask ill tell, but I don't judge at all. I don't see a point? none of us is perfect, so I don't see a point, saying what you feel is different than judging fr. same with redflags, guess mines would be im clingy 😂 i love clingy people as well, im not sure. but red flags falls into the same with, people do too much, people are fake, and users. and it amazes me completely how someone will use you, for however long, then completely ditch you in the end, or when you're caught, times get rough, or something like that. I really really hate that and that's what destroys friendships. don't really care if someone is clingy.
guess that's all, i think friendships in 2018-2024 are absolutely awful, and I hate that so much. there's no one else around really, like what the hell 😂 and still today, no friends. i be hoping i can find someone like me, like if you'll be there forever man mean that and stand on it. i think the future of friendships will die out honestly. no one can trust each other, no one can spend nights no more, go out, or anything..im not into politics, I don't care about presidents or anything, nor money, I need it, I know, which is why I'm still job searching, I just think there's more to a friendship besides money, arguing, drama, stupid stuff. that's it from me i guess 😂 just a lil rant since I joined this group. show me your skateboard, songs and favorite bands! mines is behemoth and a few grunge ones.. hopefully id find a friend ..

SYNOPSIS: Walking your OP monster girlfriend home is easy. No one messes with you. Getting back to your house on your own? That's the tricky part.
What's worse than an eldritch building? How 'bout a bigger one?

Chapter Cover Art (From Mood Writing Sample)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Norman took one look at the towering building to his left. Then he took off.
.
.
“̷̵̵̷̶̷̶̶̸̶̶̸̴̡̛̮͉̹̪̼̙̤̲̤͔̗̮̥̣̜͓̟̞̃̔̈́̑̈̍͌̂̂̐̋͛̉̓G̵̶̸̷̴̸̵̵̴̶̸̷̸̴̶̨̢̧̞͈̠̜̳̪͎̬̜̱̫͚̝̩̑̒͐́͆̃̿̉̆̉̃̓̀̎̐͂̎̒̕̕͘͝͝Ǵ̷̷̷̴̸̸̷̷̷̷̵̨̢̞̥͓̰͖͙̰̝͖̩̺͍͎͉͌̽̂́͐̓̀͒̐͗́M̴̷̶̵̴̷̵̶̵̴̷̷̢̡̧̢̛̫̲͕͇̗̯͚̥͙͓͓̀̒͑͒̂̊̅̐͛̂̄͌̈̚͝M̴̷̶̵̴̷̷̶̷̬̼̭̗͍̺̳̩̱͍̂̄̾͂̔̽̇̀͝͝͝͠M̶̯̙̥͕̞̰̗̗͐̔!̸̞̞̬̼̖̩̈́̇͊͐̾͑͋̉!̷̧͈̘̬̆͑͝!̶̤̜̔̓̆̅̔͆͘͝”̸̨̧̼̭̫̒͜
.
The new hunting cry boomed through his body. It was much louder than the first building’s, albeit shorter, like a tap on the shoulder from a titan proclaiming its presence to the world.
Of course, the tap of a titan could flatten a man.
Norman fell. His legs had simply stopped working. Jaws clenched, he forced his will into wobbly muscles. His palms slammed into the waterlogged street, stopping the fall. With a sharp push, he sprang back to his feet and ran on.
Norman yanked out the remaining two flash grenades on the go, strung them together, armed and drew back for a throw.
.
.
“̷̬̳̙̍̎̆G̴̥͇̥͔͕̫̈̀M̵̛͇̜͙͇̫͔̭̩̝̜̓̈̏̓̓̀͛̚͜͝͝M̷̩͈͉̘͙̿͌̃̽͂̃̏̏̓̾̈́͌̈́̉̅̄̉͘!̷̢̧̢̤͓̭̖̝̏̏̄̓̾̉̆͋͘͝!̵͍̱̼̮̯̺̲͙̖̮̗͓̻̓̊͂̒̔͐̎͘͘̚!̵̙͍̟̌͒̃͂̎͠”̶̡̛̠̱̭̞̹̟͉̒̎̎̂͂̐̈́̓̄̚̕
.
.
That quick boom pounded through him. His fingers faltered. The flash grenades slipped from his grip and fell. He was still recovering from the sound when they went off at his feet. The nightsight filtered the flash, so he didn’t go blind. He’d gutted the flash grenade’s speakers, so he didn’t go deaf. The peeping building could deafen him all on its own … no, this wasn’t a peeping building. He’d slew a peeping building. They were small fries by comparison.
This was an eyescraper.
Tentacles the width of busses unsheathed from its sides. Even if he’d managed to launch the grenades and bathe it in smitelight, he suspected that wouldn’t be enough.
Norman sliced at its eyes with a focused beam. It barely flinched. Maybe if it got close enough, he could affect it a bit. By then, it would be too late.
Throbbing chuffs thundered from the monster. It sounded like a laugh.
Norman shot it a defiant glare. He bolted. Not fast enough. He could feel the giant closing in. So, he moved faster. Then faster, and still faster. His muscles blared their warnings. Rain lashed his face. He felt the air begin to resist his movements as he reached a speed at which it mattered. It was in his way, so he pushed through it too. No one was there to tell him he was moving far faster than any human known to history. All he cared about was hearing that thing fall behind him, and so it did. The tremours of its tremendous movements grew fainter.
At the end of the street, an apartment building came into view. Norman threw himself against it, climbing with the reckless abandon of a madman. He was halfway to the top.
Something was yapping in the background, but it wasn’t important. He felt fine. Everything was fine. Why not rest? Why was he even-?
What? No he didn’t! Promises weren’t for trolls! Why would he leave Amy anyway?
Oh, right. There was a skyscraper running him down. To think he lived in a world where that made any sense. He rubbed his throbbing head. It was hard to think, though.
_CHAT
Brain fog would have to wait.
In two twos he jumped onto the side of the building and kept going up and up without breaking the momentum of the leap. Adrenaline had challenged gravity. Gravity lost. There was no pause to assess handholds. There was no rain stinging his face. In his mind, there was only ‘CLIMB, CLIMB, CLIMB!’ Crest the rooftop. ‘RUN, RUN, RUN!’ Descend the other side ‘JUMP!’ Gravity greedily reclaimed Norman, dragging him 4 storeys down at breakneck speed. He hit the ground in a parkour roll. Bruised a bone. Nearly fractured a shoulder. Wrenched his spine. Joints, muscle, ligaments almost popped. They didn’t.
He was running again.
Norman had never heard a building shred like paper. He’d never thought to wonder what it sounded like.
*( ( BMMM! ) ) ( ( BMM! ) ) ( ( BOOM! ) ) \*
SHHHHHRRRRRRMMMM!
Now he knew.
Those booms … was it the eyescraper’s tentacles breaking the sound barrier, or punching holes through the apartment building? Maybe both. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that it was tearing the building in two with the ease of one parting curtains. Buildings were not designed to be parted. Two became legions as the sundered building collapsed.
Norman rushed for an abandoned truck, slid beneath the trailer. Not quite fast enough. Most of the rubble didn’t reach him directly, but upon hitting the ground? It pulverised into a blast of cloud like a sandstorm. Hissing beneath the trailer, the dust stung at his ankles. He ignored it, racing for the truck’s cabin at the front. Perched on the step beneath the door, he braced as the dust raced beneath, around and above him. The cabin was his shield. He flinched to a duck when its windows shattered as the dust cloud blasted straight through them. The truck rocked and slid slightly, bombarded by wind and dust. It lurched as a chunk of debris finally reached it, crumpling the trailer like cheap foil.
Time to move.
Particles prickled Norman’s eyes, finding their way through the nightsight. He took a fresh glimpse of the path ahead before clouds of grey engulfed it all.
Memorised.
He dashed on. A split second later, the cabin was levelled under a larger slab of concrete. More sporadically thundered down around him. His eyes were squeezed shut, denying entry to any more particles. He scrambled through the street, dodging obstacles from memory. As for the concrete rainfall that couldn’t be seen? He had some prayers about that, but it probably came out like half-baked gibberish.
Norman chanced opening his eyes. They watered like crazy. At least most of the dust was gone. Behind him, the eyescraper’s menacing silhouette was picking through the rubble. Finally, an unblocked street was in sight. He rounded the corner.
.
“̵̨̢̮͕̻̲̺́͠G̵̣̒́̓̽̅̊͘͝Ọ̷̝̣͓͙͔̀ͅͅǪ̷̜̺͚̲̯̭̈́̍͂͑̋̋̅͂̅́M̷̨̤̭͈̯̤͋̾̏̈̅̉̀̏͘M̵̡̢̙̱͌̊̓͒́͌Ḿ̸̳͗̀̀͐͒͗́͠ͅ!̷͍͉̣̪̫͙̳̲̤̎̀̾̅̈́̔̎̑͘͜͝͝!̴̨͈͖̘̖̅͛̋̽͠!̸͎̩͓̫̥̼̫̊”̵̫̗̞̣̝̃̅̕͘͜͜͝ͅ
.
Another peeping building, rumbling in from the new street. Alright. Straight it was.
.
“̷̢̧̻̹͚͔̾G̵̳̭̾̃̎̍̌̂̈́̂͛͘M̶̧̠͇͔͚͉̮͈̰͒͊́̏̔̄̾̊͐̒͂͜M̸̳͓̋͋̔͑̔̔̕͝Ő̷͓̟̱̮͓̍̂̾̽̇͘͠Ô̸̧̫͉̮͚̥̥̯̈̾͋̅͂͘̚M̶̢̫̥̰̮̪͙̬̙̗̺̽͒͐͌̋̈̄͆͝M̴̢̧̧̛̗͔͓̫̭̳̱͑̉!̵̡̛̛͍̲̓̅̑̈́̿̏͘̕͠!̸̧̖͔̣̩̏́͋̀͛͂̏̀̇̑͐!̴̧͕̝̮̤̱͈̬͋”̸͓̉̈́̑̎͊̌
.
Maybe not. A third building emerged from the rainfall ahead. All streets blocked. He glanced about. All alleys still blocked. This really was a hunting net, but this much energy for a tiny human? Predators weren’t usually like this.
He ran for the nearest building that wasn’t occupied by eldritch calamari.
( ( BOOMM! ) )
The eyescraper’s tentacle crossed his path. Its supersonic shockwave sent him flying.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Norman came to. Rain poured against his face as he lay on his back. How long was he out? Why was it so cold? The atmosphere didn’t quite feel right. It didn’t look right either. Something about the colours, or subtle lack thereof. Everything seemed a bit desaturated. Norman sat up and coughed his lungs out, evicting a mix of dust and rain water collected in his slackly gaping mouth. Buildings towered above him on every side, a bit too close for comfort.
.
“̸̮̼͍̻̯̲̹͓̬̻̓̍G̷̛̖̙̰̰̟̓Ḿ̸̧̨͊̊̔͒͌̆͆͘͠͝M̷̧̺̏̿̆͑͆͋̅͌̕͝G̵̰̺͇̺̯̲͇̠͖͂͜M̸̡̨͕̹̗̥̎͑́̾!̸͇͙͚̝̩͕̙̒!̵͙̬̮̪̏̍!̶͔̪͉̙̘̃̐̄͝”̶̡̡̥̫̻̝̜̫͙̩͛ͅ
.
Oh, right, those weren’t just buildings.
Norman raised a finger, gesturing to wait. “Could you *kaff!* quit subwoofin’ at me for, like, ten seconds!”
“Plucky.̵͚͐͝ for all seasons I .̵̦̺͐̅see,” came a skin-crawling voice from behind him.
Norman swung back his smitelight. It barely moved half a foot, then it stopped. Rather, something stopped it. That ‘something’ was cold. So cold. His wrist felt the chill without even touching it.
Norman turned, slowly, so as not to trigger further attacks. He found himself looking up.
Eight feet tall. Dark grey skin. A grin that went a little too wide. Dagger teeth. An open-chested jacket, revealing sinewy muscles with luminous markings like tattoos. His ebony eyes bore penetrating white pupils. Of all his traits, the dreadlocks stood out most. They belonged in a nightmare, dancing through the air with a life of their own. Somehow, they looked blacker than black, absorbing every ray of light or heat that came their way. That icy chill in the air shifted with the movements of his dreadlocks. They seemed to drink life from the air itself. Norman almost found it hard to breathe. One dreadlock clutched Norman’s smitelight, only by the tip, but its grip was iron.
Norman stared the tall man down.
The nyctal’s grin grew by a smidgeon.
Taking a calculated risk, Norman released the smitelight. Perhaps a peace offering would do good.
“Good.̷̧͋͌̎̿ boy,” the tall man nodded, admiring the smitelight as the dreadlock rotated it. “Clever.̴̧̤̩͈͓̖͂ͅ toy.”
Norman noted an understated Jamaican accent in his voice.
More dreadlocks slithered across the smitelight, as if tasting its every nook and cranny.
Norman did his best to look casual as he scanned for an escape route. The eyescraper’s tentacles had wrapped around the street, fencing him in.
_CHAT
Norman looked at the tall nyctal again.
_CHAT
The nyctal’s eyes shifted to Norman inquisitively. He frowned, raising an eyebrow as the comments piled up. Finally, he smirked mischievously.
“Your fanbase has peculiar tastes,” purred the tall man.
_CHAT
The tall man handed Norman his smitelight.
Norman’s suspicious gaze flicked between the nyctal and the weapon. Finally, he reached out and took hold of the smitelight.
It crumbled in his fingers like ice-cold ashes. If not for the insulation gloves, he might have gotten frostbite.
The nyctal laughed.
Norman didn’t find it particularly amusing.
The tall man sauntered towards the eyescraper. Beyond it was a darkness even the nightsight had difficulty piercing. He beckoned Norman as if it were an afterthought.
“Please come in, .̵̭̻͌̓̂Norman.̶̲͕͇̅̑̚,” the nyctal instructed.
Norman stared stubbornly, hands in his pockets as he rocked on his heels. He felt for his smartphone. It wasn’t there. When had he lost it?
Without looking back, the nyctal held up Norman’s phone. It disintegrated between his fingers as he rubbed them together.
Norman glared. At least the guy hadn’t pickpocketed deeply enough to find other things.
“Hey. To whom do I owe the … pleasure?” Norman almost had to push the last word through his teeth.
The nyctal stopped in the eyescraper’s doorframe. Shrouded in shadow, little could be seen of him, save the piercing white pupils peering out. Then the glint of his Cheshire grin.
“.̴̜͓̭̻̤̍̈́̆͑͑John Crow.̸̻̮̓̈́̏̓͘,” he answered, before receding into the darkness.
The eyescraper’s tentacles dragged in across the street, corralling Norman towards the building. With an exasperated groan, he trudged towards the main entrance.
“I want my bed,” grumbled Norman.
2024.05.18 23:21 Cold-Cut-9760 Anyone learning SQL with ChatGPT ? If so, maybe you could help me !
Hi everyone, recently, I have been using GPT-4 a lot to improve my level in SQL, more precisely in terms of querying an existent database, not in creating database from scratch or architecturing it.
Indeed, this gem is very good for generating exercises to push my limits and improve my querying level.
However, recently I haven't been able to find the perfect prompt to encourage GPT to provide me with exercises related to what I'm asking for.
It's mind blowing how he struggles to deliver exactly what I want and he seems to be missing the point.
What I want ChatGPT to do is give me an exercise every time I ask for it. This exercise should push me to use the different functions, clauses, joins, mathematical operations, that is to say everything that is possible to query using SQL. To put it simply, I must be able to provide a complete report, around a single theme, where each step or instruction leads naturally to a next one and this for each exercise with a completely different situation from the previous one.
Obviously, I don't want it to force me to use all the principles at the same time in a single query to answer the exercise. I prefer that he pushes me to use a few at the same time.
Here is examples of typical exercise that I would like to solve and which I thought about 30 minutes ago :
Example 1 :
1.Calculate the turnover of companies for each region. 2.Identify regions that generated over 2 million in revenue. 3.List the top-revenue-generating company within each region that generated over 2 million in revenue. 4.Highlight the highest revenue-generating sale for each of the top company by region that generated over 2 million in revenue.
Example 2 :
1.Gather all book sales that occurred in the last 3 months. 2.Calculate the number of sales for each book within this 3-month period and sort the results by the highest sales count. 3.Determine the total revenue generated by each book from the sales made in the last 3 months. 4.Filter out books that contributed less than 20% of the total revenue. 5.Identify the book with the highest sales count in the last 3 months. Identify the book that generated the most revenue in the last 3 months. Identify the book with the least sale count in the last three months.
Example 3 :
1.Return the unique IDs and addresses for all stores controlled by our video game company. 2. Return the quantity of each video game in stock for each store. 3. Calculate the actual stock for each video game based on the sales that occurred in each store. 4.Identify videogames with stocks below the safety stock (threshold). 5.Identify stores that have more than three items below the safety stock. 6.Identify stores that have between 3 and 5 items below the threshold as "Not a priority", between 6 and 9 items as "Priority", between 10 and 13 as "Critic", and more than 14 as "Maximum priority"
As you can see, these types of exercises would push me to use as many SQL functions and clauses as possible while at the same time practicing with joins and CTE. When I ask ChatGPT to do these kind of exercices, it goes insane and send me the same exercice with one or two minor differences and keep giving the same type of exercices with a slightly different situation.
I don't wanna give up but it's almost as if I won't find the good prompt that would allow ChatGPT to give me these kind of exercices around a unique theme, a unique situation that would push me to generate a large report based on logical and linked instructions. Because when I ask GPT to give me exercises to train, here is how it looks :
Example of SQL exercise gave by ChatGPT
What it does is separate the instructions, and there is little link between them. It feels strange, and I can't see how it will help me train CTE and have a better grasp of JOINS. This is not the type of exercise and directions I am looking for. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm hoping someone would understand. I am confident that if I could create an appropriate prompt, it would provide me with the activities I am looking for.
1.Gather all book sales that occurred in the last 3 months. 2.Calculate the number of sales for each book within this 3-month period and sort the results by the highest sales count. 3.Determine the total revenue generated by each book from the sales made in the last 3 months. 4.Filter out books that contributed less than 20% of the total revenue. 5.Identify the book with the highest sales count in the last 3 months. Identify the book that generated the most revenue in the last 3 months. Identify the book with the least sale count in the last three months.
Example 3 :
1.Return the unique IDs and addresses for all stores controlled by our video game company. 2. Return the quantity of each video game in stock for each store. 3. Calculate the actual stock for each video game based on the sales that occurred in each store. 4.Identify videogames with stocks below the safety stock (threshold). 5.Identify stores that have more than three items below the safety stock. 6.Identify stores that have between 3 and 5 items below the threshold as "Not a priority", between 6 and 9 items as "Priority", between 10 and 13 as "Critic", and more than 14 as "Maximum priority"
As you can see, these types of exercises would push me to use as many SQL functions and clauses as possible while at the same time practicing with joins and CTE. When I ask ChatGPT to do these kind of exercices, it goes insane and send me the same exercice with one or two minor differences and keep giving the same type of exercices with a slightly different situation.
I don't wanna give up but it's almost as if I won't find the good prompt that would allow ChatGPT to give me these kind of exercices around a unique theme, a unique situation that would push me to generate a large report based on logical and linked instructions. Because when I ask GPT to give me exercises to train, here is how it looks :
Example of SQL exercise gave by ChatGPT
What it does is separate the instructions, and there is little link between them. It feels strange, and I can't see how it will help me train CTE and have a better grasp of JOINS. This is not the type of exercise and directions I am looking for. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm hoping someone would understand. I am confident that if I could create an appropriate prompt, it would provide me with the activities I am looking for.
2024.05.18 23:17 Cold-Cut-9760 Anyone trying to learn SQL with ChatGPT ? Prompt geniuses... MAYDAY !
Hi everyone, recently, I have been using GPT-4 a lot to improve my level in SQL, more precisely in terms of querying an existent database, not in creating database from scratch or architecturing it.
Indeed, this gem is very good for generating exercises to push my limits and improve my querying level.
However, recently I haven't been able to find the perfect prompt to encourage GPT to provide me with exercises related to what I'm asking for.
It's mind blowing how he struggles to deliver exactly what I want and he seems to be missing the point.
What I want ChatGPT to do is give me an exercise every time I ask for it. This exercise should push me to use the different functions, clauses, joins, mathematical operations, that is to say everything that is possible to query using SQL. To put it simply, I must be able to provide a complete report, around a single theme, where each step or instruction leads naturally to a next one and this for each exercise with a completely different situation from the previous one.
Obviously, I don't want it to force me to use all the principles at the same time in a single query to answer the exercise. I prefer that he pushes me to use a few at the same time.
Here is examples of typical exercise that I would like to solve and which I thought about 30 minutes ago :
Example 1 :
1.Calculate the turnover of companies for each region. 2.Identify regions that generated over 2 million in revenue. 3.List the top-revenue-generating company within each region that generated over 2 million in revenue. 4.Highlight the highest revenue-generating sale for each of the top company by region that generated over 2 million in revenue.
2024.05.18 22:31 Horror_Hand_2414 19m (rant/looking for friend/friends)
why is it so hard to make friends?
m19 here from (still in) maryland, and lately i've realized how lonely I am, lmao. I have my hobbies and stuff but yet, I'm so lonely, i have one friend, who's been my friend since middle school, he's my bro. but i realized i legit have no friends..or a friend like me, here's some points I've seen/made 👇🏾
° fake people: there's too many fake people in the world today, worried about “worldly” bull crap or something stupid, wanting to be in drama, coming to you, then completely ignoring you or ghosting, I find it fake, sorta bummy and immature. people don't know the definition of a “friendship” or a “very close bond” like i'm gonna stick beside you no matter what, people don't seem to get that, then play victim when you call them out. people will use you, talk poorly of you, do all things wrong, i can't stand that. which is why i enjoy being more of a loner..i hate fake friends and i am not no fake friend, im sorta clingy
° people have weird interests/and are boring: this is, i guess controversial, tough one? but people have their interests but i've met some people (school/outside) that's into some weird crap, pronouns for one, i dislike folk whose interests are gender crap, not much into anime honestly, i do love harry potter though. i find a lot of people boring and never knowing how to have a conversation, never wanna be like “come over and chill, or let's watch a horror film” or anything like that, i've always wanted a male friend to explore stuff with, let's ride our skateboards around and learn tricks/let's ride through the night, i'd love to explore abandoned places honestly, guess i'm more of an that “emo boy that's always up to something”. i also love a childish person, stupid jokes/pranks are always the best, where's the trustworthy people who'd wanna skate all night and go to a pizza joint and chill at each other places all night watching horror films, (and i love horror. anyone seen the movie terrifer? the conjuring? house of 1000 corpses? lords of salem!!) talking about whatever, even deep conversations all night with pizza. play video games with me if you'd want, im a console player, i enjoy my xbox, we can facetime and play stupid stuff or id come to you and chill. who still plays minecraft lmao, im a huge lover of the grunge, skateboard theme, nighttime themed things, yeah i'm a slytherin 🐍. i can't find people like that. also, any other song writers out there? i love making my own music, rock is dope but it depends on the rock..
° bad places and everyone is untrustworthy/ghetto: i grew up in the hood, not to be prideful but it's sorta easy to see through people and know when stupid crap is going down. it's hard finding friends like you in the area you live in. this goes along with fake friends cause people are fake, users, and ghetto af. like what the hell? i mean like dude, if I'm your friend, i mean that, im not gonna use you for money or betray you for some chick or whoever. people don't seem to get that. i also find it stupid how guys, other males are such simps for women and will completely throw you under the bus for a woman, women do the same with men, it's fake af.
° i hate people/large crowds/groups: this i feel like a lot of people can relate to. i absolutely hate people and not on a “woke" level, but on a “people do too much” level, yes people do too much and they always deny that they're doing too much. i hate big groups, because they always fall, which is a heartbreaker dude..it can be 4 of us, then 3, then 2, then none. i've always prefered a group of 3 or just one guy and myself. this gonna sound weird but i've always wanted a male friend, a guys guy really. i don't really go to skate parks, cause it's usually to many people, doing the most per usual, like there's one by the baltimore harbor, i'd rather go at night due to the amount of people there during the day. it sounds cheesy but i hate people. i really do.
° no one has my interest: this is the same as people having weird interests, but this is true. no one has the same interest as me, and i hear that people with the same interest are the ones that argue a lot, fall apart quickly, or just can't get along, i don't know how true that is entirely. but that's where the communication falls in, talk to me man. if there's an issue, open your mouth! don't be a pussy and keep it to yourself and talk poorly of me and hate me. that's not right, it's wack and lame af. people who do that really need to get themselves in check. like again, i love horror, i love the hell out of horror, its all I watch, anyone here watch mr.nightmare ? on youtube, also people enjoy stupid stuff and stay indoors to much. i get it, being in your space in your smelly room is cool and all, it's america, we hate it here, but personally i think there so much more, like I said I love night time stuff, abandoned houses/churches/stores, etc, i'm always down for it all, guess it's my emo horror obsession haha. anyone want to work and save up money together? where's the people like that who wouldn't steal your money, and dip off, like we save and use it for stuff like pizza, new skateboards, deep woods campfires and outings man. spending the night at each other's place, sneaking into spots! and one thing, building each other up, im the type to help you out, if you feel bad or something, let me know and id help, I know depression runs through a lot of people, and if I had that friend that in looking for in gonna be there, no matter what. that's just the kinda person I am, not satanic lol, just..emo? or grunge? i don't know..
° no one is loyal/have bad families/too sensitive: this is a tough one but im just gonna say it. people aways hated that I have no filter, not that I have a nasty mouth and I always have to put my opinion in stuff, i'm more so very quiet. i also have a dark sense of humor, im black, so i definitely do say racial jokes, not as a insult, but a little humor or whatever. dark humor is always the best. but i have no filter, i'm gonna tell you the truth of what it is, what I enjoy, what I hate, just point blank period, and people hate that, i'm nor gonna sugar coat anything! a true friendship circles and stays strong through truth and open words, if you can't handle that, something is honestly wrong with you fr. families, now. i won't judge you for having a bad home, but what i mean is, completely putting all that, that's not your responsibility in the way. i did that once, as an older sibling, i believe younger siblings aren't no one's responsibility, i once canceled plans to “watch and take care” of siblings when their old enough to watch themselves, which i regret. if you're having a bad time, you always got me there. which falls into loyal, people aren't loyal. which is basically people are fake. im a longterm friendship kinda dude. you're my homie, just like that.
° finally, judging and redflags: i don't judge at all, ask ill tell, but I don't judge at all. I don't see a point? none of us is perfect, so I don't see a point, saying what you feel is different than judging fr. same with redflags, guess mines would be im clingy 😂 i love clingy people as well, im not sure. but red flags falls into the same with, people do too much, people are fake, and users. and it amazes me completely how someone will use you, for however long, then completely ditch you in the end, or when you're caught, times get rough, or something like that. I really really hate that and that's what destroys friendships. don't really care if someone is clingy.
guess that's all, i think friendships in 2018-2024 are absolutely awful, and I hate that so much. there's no one else around really, like what the hell 😂 and still today, no friends. i be hoping i can find someone like me, like if you'll be there forever man mean that and stand on it. i think the future of friendships will die out honestly. no one can trust each other, no one can spend nights no more, go out, or anything..im not into politics, I don't care about presidents or anything, nor money, I need it, I know, which is why I'm still job searching, I just think there's more to a friendship besides money, arguing, drama, stupid stuff. that's it from me i guess 😂 just a lil rant since I joined this group. show me your skateboard, songs and favorite bands! mines is behemoth and a few grunge ones.. hopefully id find a friend ..
2024.05.18 21:35 SylArdens [SP] Die With Your Mustache On
He got stuck there for a while, waiting for them to cut his last tether to the world.
While waiting in the aether, he laughed, because he always did in the face of drama and tragedy. He’d gone and done it for the last time, hurtling along for that one extra grasp of goodness, and all the karmic bills came due at once. There wasn’t much he could do but laugh, getting a glimpse of his unresponsive body with the swollen face and the umpteen tubes sticking out of him. He couldn’t quite hear what his wife was saying, he saw his daughter on a screen briefly, and he had a feeling his sister got involved, but that was it.
He kicked a random rock in the space between, and it crumbled to dust on impact. He couldn’t stop grinning as the remains dispersed, vanishing as they returned to the aether that formed them. Somehow, just this once, everyone else had been right. He had his money, his freedom, his support, his “family” (and the daughter he left behind), and in the end, he was left with nothing more than himself in the void. He’d destroyed the rock that could have kept him company.
Days passed, or that was what he gathered from vague flashes of the material world. Though he had nothing to do but wait and his sense of time was gone, he’d begun looking for other forms of substance in this space. There had to be more than one rock, unlikely though it was. After all, it still solidified against all odds, even before he shattered it. There were no directions or landmarks in this liminal space, but also no boundaries. He could wander as much as he liked until they took his body off life support.
Assorted whispers and sentiments brushed by him as he walked. Warm jokes, indignant expressions, comments of approval and complaints all flowed past. There was no priority or pattern to them. All of these memories and emotions were equal in the void. Even if he was still smiling, he might have grit his teeth a little. At least he had his teeth in these final moments of existence; they were the definition of pearly white and a source of pride, even to his daughter who inherited his dental advantage.
She had also inherited his mouth, his feet, his eyes, his body chemistry and the rampaging neurochemical disasters attached to it, his ability to nod off anywhere, and some of his turns of phrase and gestures.
At some point, he finally found a clump of dust. This dust had gathered around something that kept it from blowing away, a tumbleweed anchored by treasure. He picked it up and began to tease apart the outside to get to whatever was shimmering within. When it was exposed, it dissipated into shining sparks in the space around him, and visions of his history assailed him.
Memories flowed and rushed past him, a rapid river of time and experiences. He was born in a large city. His sister made trouble for everyone from the moment she was born. He met, loved, and married a charming woman with a funky leg. He held his daughter and was told he couldn’t name her Jeleanor. He played video games with her, fell asleep during some of her IEP meetings, gave warm and sturdy hugs.
He betrayed all of them at one point. He laughed as his daughter sobbed and slapped him for what he was doing to his family. Even the dog looked him dead in the eye as she pooped on the floor next to him. He broke free of it all and flung himself halfway across the world.
He chose a new family, did important and high-paying work, and he was free of all influences for a while. The daughter he’d left behind was the only exception.
Things got better at some point, maybe.
Somehow, all of these events ended with him here, waiting to be free from the mortal coil, holding a now-empty clump of dust in his hands. New words filtered in from elsewhere.
“Brain test is negative. Dad’s gone.”
“So that’s it, then?”
That was it. His body was allowed to die.
With the tether released, his form shimmered into a common perception. When he touched his face, the mustache he’d shaved for over a decade had returned. His hair remained sparse, but that was an adequate compromise. A memory resurfaced of a little girl bawling when he first shaved his mustache lifetimes ago.
When he was done chuckling at the world that gave him his final justice, he turned around and walked towards the light that had appeared. Upon arriving on the other side, he was promptly mobbed by a small bearded dog, his mother who got the action star railgun of her dreams, his befuddled father, and his ex-wife’s mother completely ready to rub in how he died first after all that.
All of it ended in a cartoonish cloud of comedic violence.
2024.05.18 21:25 Horror_Hand_2414 mini rant/looking for emo/grunge friend/friends 19m(read if you want)
why is it so hard to make friends?
m19 here from (still in) maryland, and lately i've realized how lonely I am, lmao. I have my hobbies and stuff but yet, I'm so lonely, i have one friend, who's been my friend since middle school, he's my bro. but i realized i legit have no friends..or a friend like me, here's some points I've seen/made 👇🏾
° fake people: there's too many fake people in the world today, worried about “worldly” bull crap or something stupid, wanting to be in drama, coming to you, then completely ignoring you or ghosting, I find it fake, sorta bummy and immature. people don't know the definition of a “friendship” or a “very close bond” like i'm gonna stick beside you no matter what, people don't seem to get that, then play victim when you call them out. people will use you, talk poorly of you, do all things wrong, i can't stand that. which is why i enjoy being more of a loner..i hate fake friends and i am not no fake friend, im sorta clingy
° people have weird interests/and are boring: this is, i guess controversial, tough one? but people have their interests but i've met some people (school/outside) that's into some weird crap, pronouns for one, i dislike folk whose interests are gender crap, not much into anime honestly, i do love harry potter though. i find a lot of people boring and never knowing how to have a conversation, never wanna be like “come over and chill, or let's watch a horror film” or anything like that, i've always wanted a male friend to explore stuff with, let's ride our skateboards around and learn tricks/let's ride through the night, i'd love to explore abandoned places honestly, guess i'm more of an that “emo boy that's always up to something”. i also love a childish person, stupid jokes/pranks are always the best, where's the trustworthy people who'd wanna skate all night and go to a pizza joint and chill at each other places all night watching horror films, (and i love horror. anyone seen the movie terrifer? the conjuring? house of 1000 corpses? lords of salem!!) talking about whatever, even deep conversations all night with pizza. play video games with me if you'd want, im a console player, i enjoy my xbox, we can facetime and play stupid stuff or id come to you and chill. who still plays minecraft lmao, im a huge lover of the grunge, skateboard theme, nighttime themed things, yeah i'm a slytherin 🐍. i can't find people like that. also, any other song writers out there? i love making my own music, rock is dope but it depends on the rock..
° bad places and everyone is untrustworthy/ghetto: i grew up in the hood, not to be prideful but it's sorta easy to see through people and know when stupid crap is going down. it's hard finding friends like you in the area you live in. this goes along with fake friends cause people are fake, users, and ghetto af. like what the hell? i mean like dude, if I'm your friend, i mean that, im not gonna use you for money or betray you for some chick or whoever. people don't seem to get that. i also find it stupid how guys, other males are such simps for women and will completely throw you under the bus for a woman, women do the same with men, it's fake af.
° i hate people/large crowds/groups: this i feel like a lot of people can relate to. i absolutely hate people and not on a “woke gen z” area, but on a “people do too much” level, yes people do too much and they always deny that they're doing too much. i hate big groups, because they always fall, which is a heartbreaker dude..it can be 4 of us, then 3, then 2, then none. i've always prefered a group of 3 or just one guy and myself. this gonna sound weird but i've always wanted a male friend, a guys guy really. i don't really go to skate parks, cause it's usually to many people, doing the most per usual, like there's one by the baltimore harbor, i'd rather go at night due to the amount of people there during the day. it sounds cheesy but i hate people. i really do.
° no one has my interest: this is the same as people having weird interests, but this is true. no one has the same interest as me, and i hear that people with the same interest are the ones that argue a lot, fall apart quickly, or just can't get along, i don't know how true that is entirely. but that's where the communication falls in, talk to me man. if there's an issue, open your mouth! don't be a pussy and keep it to yourself and talk poorly of me and hate me. that's not right, it's wack and lame af. people who do that really need to get themselves in check. like again, i love horror, i love the hell out of horror, its all I watch, anyone here watch mr.nightmare ? on youtube, also people enjoy stupid stuff and stay indoors to much. i get it, being in your space in your smelly room is cool and all, it's america, we hate it here, but personally i think there so much more, like I said I love night time stuff, abandoned houses/churches/stores, etc, i'm always down for it all, guess it's my emo horror obsession haha. anyone want to work and save up money together? where's the people like that who wouldn't steal your money, and dip off, like we save and use it for stuff like pizza, new skateboards, deep woods campfires and outings man. spending the night at each other's place, sneaking into spots! and one thing, building each other up, im the type to help you out, if you feel bad or something, let me know and id help, I know depression runs through a lot of people, and if I had that friend that in looking for in gonna be there, no matter what. that's just the kinda person I am, not satanic lol, just..emo? or grunge? i don't know..
° no one is loyal/have bad families/too sensitive: this is a tough one but im just gonna say it. people aways hated that I have no filter, not that I have a nasty mouth and I always have to put my opinion in stuff, i'm more so very quiet. i also have a dark sense of humor, im black, so i definitely do say racial jokes, not as a insult, but a little humor or whatever. dark humor is always the best. but i have no filter, i'm gonna tell you the truth of what it is, what I enjoy, what I hate, just point blank period, and people hate that, i'm nor gonna sugar coat anything! a true friendship circles and stays strong through truth and open words, if you can't handle that, something is honestly wrong with you fr. families, now. i won't judge you for having a bad home, but what i mean is, completely putting all that, that's not your responsibility in the way. i did that once, as an older sibling, i believe younger siblings aren't no one's responsibility, i once canceled plans to “watch and take care” of siblings when their old enough to watch themselves, which i regret. if you're having a bad time, you always got me there. which falls into loyal, people aren't loyal. which is basically people are fake. im a longterm friendship kinda dude. you're my homie, just like that.
° finally, judging and redflags: i don't judge at all, ask ill tell, but I don't judge at all. I don't see a point? none of us is perfect, so I don't see a point, saying what you feel is different than judging fr. same with redflags, guess mines would be im clingy 😂 i love clingy people as well, im not sure. but red flags falls into the same with, people do too much, people are fake, and users. and it amazes me completely how someone will use you, for however long, then completely ditch you in the end, or when you're caught, times get rough, or something like that. I really really hate that and that's what destroys friendships. don't really care if someone is clingy.
guess that's all, i think friendships in 2018-2024 are absolutely awful, and I hate that so much. there's no one else around really, like what the hell 😂 and still today, no friends. i be hoping i can find someone like me, like if you'll be there forever man mean that and stand on it. i think the future of friendships will die out honestly. no one can trust each other, no one can spend nights no more, go out, or anything..im not into politics, I don't care about presidents or anything, nor money, I need it, I know, which is why I'm still job searching, I just think there's more to a friendship besides money, arguing, drama, stupid stuff. that's it from me i guess 😂 just a lil rant since I joined this group. show me your skateboard, songs and favorite bands! mines is behemoth and a few grunge ones.. hopefully id find a friend ..
2024.05.18 19:56 abibofile Pixel grid on openFPGA
Hello - I recently got an Analogue Pocket and am a bit confused about the filters available for GB cartridges versus the GB core in openFPGA. I prefer a pixel grid on the screen, which is no problem when playing a cartridge - it’s one of the four available screen options. However, if I’m playing the same game through openFPGA, I can only access the screen options available on carts without the pixel grid.
I’ve sort of found a workaround for this by using a GB flashcart since that does allow me to use the pixel filter on ROMs, the same as I would see with a normal cartridge. However, it seems silly to need an extra step and extra equipment to play the same file on a flashcart that’s also on my Analogue’s SD card.
(I should note that I also used a third party tool to make all of the screen filters available for all of the cores, no matter the system — but that still didn’t make the pixel grids show up as an option.)
Can anyone explain why the pixel grid is not available in the openFPGA core but is available on a cartridge — even if it is a flashcart? Is this normal or do I need to fix some setting? Thanks!
2024.05.18 18:29 kozmikvpn My love-hate relationship with Microsoft
I like Windows OS for daily usage, gaming etc. but I somehow also hate it. I have a similar relationship with other Microsoft products.
I hate it that Windows tries to shove down things down my throat. Such as their new Outlook app. I was quite happy with the simple and fast "Mail" app but Windows won't let me use it in peace.
Last week an emergency happened with my HP server and I had to install a special software to my brand new Windows PC to rescue the server. You'd expect the software to appear on your start menu when you type "HP" right? Surely not! Windows start menu is filled to the brim with all kinds of stupid web results, offers and whatnot but there's not a sign of the HP sofware you installed seconds ago.
Trying to install Windows, I say no to Office 365. Microsoft insists, ARE YOU SURE?... I AM FKING SURE, Microsoft! And nowadays, I started to see random popups appear out of the blue, offering me great Microsoft software. Surely they are great, all popups always offer great things.
And their spam filter seems to be engineered to do the exact opposite of what a spam filter is supposed to do. When I expect to receive an important e-mail, I check my spam folder first, because 99% of the time that's where I'll find it.
World-known, famous company sent you an e-mail? Microsoft will definitely treat it as spam. But half the spam will find their ways right into your mailbox. The amount of stupidity that has been engineered into Microsoft Outlook simply amazes me.
These are just from the top of my head. I can come up with more astonishingly stupid shit specifically designed by Microsoft to get on my nerves.
One of these days I'll leave Microsoft for good, and won't even pass a hundred meters close to its products.
Have a nice day, people!
2024.05.18 17:47 BFreeCoaching How to Get Motivated & Disciplined — Why Forcing Yourself to “Just Do It” Ironically Doesn’t Work
TL;DR: You don't feel motivated because you judge yourself. Your expectations are too high. “All-or-nothing” mentality typically leads to nothing. So, apply a small-and-satisfying mentality; which prioritizes the most important qualities: fun and simplicity.
Don’t judge yourself for what you think you should do, just adjust the time and/or intensity until it accommodates your emotional needs for the day.
When you discipline yourself to focus on feeling better and caring more about how you feel (i.e. judging yourself and others less, and accepting and appreciating more), then you naturally feel motivated.
_____
Let’s discuss tips for being a perfectionist, procrastinating, self-sabotage, discipline and how to create motivation (yes, you can control it):
“Just do it” ironically doesn’t work because it’s short-sighted, not sustainable, makes things harder in the short-term, and creates more work in the long-term due to unintentional unwanted consequences. When people focus on discipline, they typically mean behavior, but not emotion. But when you discipline your emotions, then you don’t need to discipline your behavior; because you’ll naturally want to act.
.
“Discipline > Motivation. When your mind says, ‘I don't want to do this,’ that’s the cue to do it.”
Motivation is an emotion, and emotions come from your thoughts. You don’t have to discipline what you do, when you discipline what you give your attention to. Use it as a cue to self-reflect, “I don’t want to do this because my expectations are too high. What if I made it easier? And only did half as much time or intensity? Yeah, I can do that.”
.
“If I waited to be motivated, nothing would get done. You need discipline, and then motivation comes later.”
Thankfully, your options aren’t limited to wait or just do it. There’s a third option: Use your power of focus to allow momentum to build (which can be done in a few minutes), and then you’ll create motivation. You’re not sitting around doing nothing; you’re actively engaging your focus to get your mind and emotions on board with your desired behavior. Then, you don’t need to rely on brute force, but instead gentle guidance; which is healthier and far more empowering in the short & long-term.
And yes, motivation can come afterwards, but that’s passive. Proactive motivation is disciplining your thoughts and emotions, so then the behavior feels a lot easier. You discipline yourself to practice how to cultivate the feeling of motivation, without needing to take physical action, first. And then, the action you take will be easier, more productive, and satisfying.
.
“Sometimes, you gotta work when you don't feel like it.”
Yes, you have to follow through on things. However, you always have the freedom to discipline yourself to feel better.
.
Here's How Motivation Works
So to create motivation, you want to care about how you feel. And to do that, you want to understand the value of negative emotions.
Negative emotions are positive guidance (although it might not feel that way) letting you know you are focusing on, and pushing against, what you don't want. Negative emotions are just messengers of the limiting beliefs you're practicing. They're a necessary part of your emotional guidance, like GPS in your car. But the more you fight them, you keep yourself stuck.
Believing negative emotions get in the way of productivity is the equivalent of believing your GPS gets in the way of driving, and so you want to mute your guidance system from telling you when you're going the wrong way.
All emotions are equal and worthy. But most people unknowingly create a hierarchy for their emotions (i.e. positive = good; negative = bad), but then you make it harder to feel better. So the solution is to build a friendship and harmonious relationship with the "negative" side of you. So when you focus more on what you want and care more about how you feel, then you will start to feel more motivated to take small, practical steps towards the life you want.
.
To Create Motivation, Modify Expectation: Don’t Judge Yourself — Adjust Yourself
Your expectations are too high. Don’t judge yourself for what you can’t do, or think you should do; just adjust the time and/or intensity until it accommodates your emotional needs for the day.
Not having motivation is a symptom of a bigger issue: You judge yourself. Work together with your negative emotions as a team to get you motivated.
By respecting your negative emotions and limiting beliefs, you are respecting yourself. And that will naturally lead to being more motivated, and building self-trust in your ability to follow through.
.
Perfectionism Causes Procrastination. “All-or-Nothing” Typically Leads to Nothing
People get really ambitious for things they've never done. “All-or-nothing” typically leads to nothing. So, apply a small-and-satisfying (that’s what she said) mentality; which prioritizes the most important qualities: fun and simplicity. And, instead of trying to change 100%, simply change by 1%.
When you were a baby, if you expected yourself to run a half marathon before you took your first step, then you would’ve given up and never learned how to walk.
.
"I want to do things in the most efficient way."
The most efficient way is the better-feeling way. The easier and more fun it is, it’s more sustainable, and so you stay consistent with it.
You're not lazy, you're just a perfectionist. You self-sabotage by setting your expectations too high. That’s not sustainable, thus setting yourself up to fail. And then you judge yourself for being lazy (which is a false conclusion based on your unrealistic expectations and impatience for change). But judging yourself for self-sabotage causes more self-sabotage, and then you feel stuck.
You’re sabotaging your future right now by beating up on yourself for a past you can’t change. Your power is now, and you can allow new opportunities that are just as good, if not better.
Also, you’re making the habits you don’t want to do too easy (e.g. store-bought sweets); and the habits you want to do too difficult (e.g. uncooked, dirt-flavored vegetables). So the solution is to make what you want to do easier, more fun, and thus, more appealing.
Gradually build up to become the person you want to be (because you gradually built up to become the person you don’t want to be). What’s more important to you: Being perfect? Or being productive?
.
Starting Is Easy. Stopping Is Hard
.
“Starting is half the battle. The hardest part is starting a new habit.”
Starting is actually the easiest part! Ironically, you don't have an issue with starting; you have an issue with stopping. If you have a perfectionist mentality, then if you're not going to do all of it, then why bother starting? So because you don't want to stop sooner, you don't start at all.
.
“How do I start, when I don’t know the first step?”
Since you don't know the whole journey, you're stopping yourself from even starting. But look at your options of what you can do, and pick the one that feels better than the rest. And after you take that step, the next step will be more obvious. The inspiration of what to do next will come; just don't be in a rush.
When you’re indecisive of what to do, it’s because you’re not decisive of how you want to feel. You may not know what path to take specifically, but you always know what you want in general. So, what do you want to feel?
As you allow those general better-feelings to be enough (and don't demand specific answers from yourself right now), it will empower you to be ready and open for new opportunities that align with what you want.
.
Why “Just Do It” Is Short-Sighted & Not Sustainable
1. It’s Well-Meaning, Just Misguided.
The intention can be supportive, but filtered through limiting beliefs, it lacks an understanding of the detrimental effects of being emotionally dismissive. It’s like a parent judging you for being fat. They want you to be healthy, but don’t know how to practically support you. And that will probably leave the child with trauma, regardless if they change and lose weight.
.
2. Ulterior motives.
An ulterior motive is: “I believe my emotions come from my circumstances and other people. So if I can control them, then I can feel better.”
If people feel powerless, then judging you to change your behavior can make them feel reassured that their needs will be met (this can be your parents, partner, friends, boss, etc.). Trying to control you is their understandably misguided solution for controlling their emotions.
Continuing the example from #1, the parent’s intention could be, “I feel uncomfortable, worried and powerless for your health. So, I need you to change, so I can feel better.” Typically when someone dismissively says, “Just do it,” they care more about their own needs.
.
3. “Just Do It” Works! … Temporarily.
People can be compartmentalized and short-sighted, so temporary solutions seem effective. But when you take a step back, you notice the pitfalls in sustainability. It can be great for a quick fix, but it’s not a sustainable solution. For ex:
Your relationship with motivation and discipline is similar to being addicted to a drug to give you a temporary fix, or an abusive relationship cycle.
You keep going back to the same old advice again, force yourself to change, and it works!… temporarily. But over time, it leaves you feeling exhausted, depressed, resentful, and ultimately powerless to not only make lasting changes, but powerless to understanding your emotions, which justifies self-judgment, because you assume something’s wrong with you. But the issue is you’re not investing in caring about how you feel for long-term sustainability.
.
Accept That You Won’t Do It
You’re judging yourself to either force yourself to do it, or make excuses to justify why you’re not doing it. But in either case, it’s still not getting done. So if it won’t get done regardless (like cleaning), then you might as well accept that and feel better about it. And then ironically, when you give yourself permission to accept that you won’t do it… that can motivate you to do it.
.
Planned Procrastination
Sometimes, I intentionally plan to procrastinate. If I have several weeks to do a project, then I plan to do it the night before. Because realistically, that would’ve happened anyway. The difference is, I don’t worry or judge myself as the deadline approaches, because I planned to have it done at the last minute. So it still gets done, but without the stress (or shame afterwards; making false promises that, “I’ll never do it again. This time I’ll change.”).
.
Procrastination Can Be a Wise Decision That Saves Time & Effort
Caring about how you feel maximizes everything you do beyond what other people would consider normal, or possible, because they’re running off of a limited tank of energy, appreciation, and clarity of ideas. But when you feel better, then more time in your schedule opens up, you have more desire and opportunities to capitalize on those activities you want to do, and you get more results out of the same amount of (or even less) action than you did before (i.e. work smarter, not harder).
2024.05.18 17:32 Mystoc The teachable perks UI could really use an makeover.
The teachable perks UI could really use an makeover.
playing chaos shuffle has inspired me get to every teachable perk unlocked on survivor. I mainly play killer so first I wanted to make sure what survivor perks I do and don't have tier 1 yet before I go getting tier 3 perks I want them all tier 1 first.
its just this UI doesn't update for shrine of secrets for perks I know that I have..
the locked sign should go away for the perk if it was gotten from the shrine of secrets but it doesn't?
my level 0 Quentin never touched has janes perks but UI says locked.
I also have some characters from way back when where you unlocked all 3 teachable perks to appear on other character bloodwebs by getting to level 40 instead now a days you prestige once get each those 3 perks at tier 1 globally right away.
when they did this change they grandfathered the perks that were unlocked already by the old method to carry over to be teachable but the game thinks I don't have empathy and botany?
what confuses me is the game knows what tier I have the perks as teachables but not if they are unlocked or not? You can see self care is tier 2, so why does it just look at survivor prestige to determine if the locked symbol should show this its confusing and non sensical, Am I missing something?
do I really need to type all 42 survivors names in the perk search filter there are and take notes which of 3 expected perks don't show up on some level 0 survivor I have? I shudder to think how people kept track of this stuff before they added in that search filter feature there's 126 teachable perks now.. this is so clunky.
TLDR: the Teachable perks area doesn't correctly track which perks you have unlocked yet or not this is bad and should be updated.
2024.05.18 17:16 Flammabubble Filter function over multiple columns
So I've got a spreadsheet for my football team which shows stats for the players over the season. I've recently started noting what positions people play, and I want to be able to filter the stats by the position. The challenge is that some people play multiple positions over the course of a match, so I've ended up with several columns for the position played.
The first picture is some test data which I've simplified, and I've also attached the output sheet where you're able to see the grouped stats and the formula I'm using for filtering by individual columns (which is stupidly long, but it does work). As you can see, if I put "Primary" and "LB", it correctly pulls 6 matches for Alex and 0 for Tim. What I want is to also be able to select "Any" and LM, and it to return results for the 3 games Alex played at LM which are across the Primary/Secondary/Tertiary columns.
I was messing around trying to vstack the columns together but it didn't seem to like it, so I wonder whether this isn't something the filter function can acually do.
