2024.05.18 16:57 indyman_123 'BRZRKR: Bloodlines' (Volume #1) by Keanu Reeves - Graphic Novel Review

Originally posted at my blog.
Description
Discover the brutal hidden history of Keanu Reeves’ record-shattering immortal warrior’s saga, soon to be adapted for Netflix!
Renowned filmmaker and record-shattering comic creator Keanu Reeves is joined by writeartist Steve Skroce (The Matrix, Post Americana), screenwriter and director Mattson Tomlin (A Vicious Circle, The Batman Part II), and artist Rebekah Isaacs (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Money Shot) for a pair of self-contained stories set within the 80,000 year history of BRZRKR! In Poetry of Madness, a sea of gore and devastation awaits as B., through a fateful chance encounter, safeguards the advanced and ancient realm of Atlantis as its unstoppable protector. But a sickly monarch serves as a symbol for the rot inside, as the security and bliss created through B.’s violence is shallow...the cracks created by a secret cult might spell a monstrous end for the legendary city, one beyond even B.’s ability to save. In Dead Empire, a former kingdom eradicated by the BRZRKR has a single living survivor. She and her people knew B. as the God King. In this tragic story of death and cataclysm, the survivor recounts a fable in which lost love, manipulation, and warring empires brought out the very worst of Unute... but is the fable’s narrator reliable? What might the survivor be hiding? Collects BRZRKR: Poetry of Madness #1 and BRZRKR: Fallen Empire #1.

NO Spoilers
Let's start with a simple enough question - What would you do when you found out that 'John Wick', aka Keanu Reeves, has written a comic/graphic novel series featuring himself as an immortal warrior who loves carnage? Me personally, I would want to grab a copy instantly! I mean, it sure sounds super fun, right? So when I got my eyes on 'BRZRKR: Bloodlines' over at NetGalley, I beat the heck out of the 'Read Now' button until I got the digital copy. And for that, I would like to thank the authors, the publishers - BOOM! Studios, and NetGalley for making it readily available. Oh, and how can I forget? My deepest of thanks to 'Mr. John Wick' himself!
So then, what really is 'BRZRKR' all about?
'BRZRKR: Bloodlines' is the first volume of the series which collects two stories - 'Poetry of Madness' and 'Fallen Empire'. Both of these stories shed a light on the life and times of the immortal, carnage-loving warrior known as the Berserker (portrayed by Keanu Reeves himself). Here's a quick summary, along with the pros and cons for each:
Welcome to Atlantis! A kingdom like no other, Atlantis is full of wealth and prosperity under the rule of King Azaes the Kind. But naturally, enemies want to take over the rich kingdom and have it all for themselves. But Atlantis and its people have nothing to worry or fear about. The King's Guard is there to protect them. And oh, if you didn't already know, the Guard is not consisted of "they", but just one person, and one person only...
For Atlantis’s true legend isn’t in its spires or its riches… but in the demi-god who protects them.
Behold!! Poseidon’s pet demon! The tip of the trident! The hope slayer! Unute, the Berserker!!!
Yep, it's the one and only 'John Wick' aka Keanu Reeves himself as Unute, the Berserker!
The opening sequence sets the tone for what this series is going to be about (at least for most parts in my opinion anyways) - blood, gore, and total CARNAGE! The present attacking enemy forces don't even stand a chance against the Berserker as he makes light work of them all, slashing and cutting them down to pieces one by one (almost quite literally!). And just like that, Atlantis is unharmed yet again, thanks to 'John Wi...', uh, I meant the Berserker. Unute, who is physically messed up himself and covered in gore, is paraded through the city as a hero. Not to worry one bit though, as he is an immortal demi-god (if you hadn't figured it out already) … who also has healing powers (not surprised to be honest, no?).
The story is narrated in the first person POV of Zubatai, a loyal servant to the beloved monarch of Atlantis, King Azaes the Kind. Not only that, she is also the honored chronicler and squire to the King’s personal guard, the royal protector of Atlantis - Unute himself. Her master, the Berserker, has only one true need that must forever be met… CARNAGE. Oh, and he absolutely LOVES carnage. And as Zubatai mentions -
The people want their gore.
And they all, including us fellow readers, are gonna get plenty of it right here!
The king is behaving a bit strange lately, and Vizane, the wizard priest, has something nasty and evil up his sleeves... And suddenly, one fine day, Atlantis is thrown into total chaos, destruction, and death when an unspeakable and equally unimaginable horror is unleashed. Can Zubatai and her master, Unute the Berserker, save the city and its people before it's too late?
This time, we start off "many centuries ago" (presumably in the context to the events of 'Poetry of Madness') at a desert kingdom named Olos. The king is anything but kind (unlike the one from the first story). He is ruthless and hungry for power, with a sense of madness about him, and will do anything to crush his enemies. But onto his land, one day, steps foot a person who is not human...
The Berserker is here, and Olos is thrown into turmoil as the immortal's thirst for carnage seems to be never-ending. The queen, who is hiding secrets including her own dark past, sets out to carry on with a plan that will set in motion nothing but death and destruction of the highest of orders for Olos and beyond.
Narrated by the first person POV of a mysterious woman who has been the witness of the Berserker's journey and carnage firsthand, this tale depicts a range of emotions with an underlying aspect of sadness and grief... and what ultimately happens when the "rage for carnage" takes over...
What was great about it?
What didn't hit the mark?
Other info.
Final thoughts
Overall, if you are looking for a fun and enjoyable start to a series featuring an immortal being who loves carnage, then this just might be what you are looking for. With no shortage of blood, gore, action, drama, and a decent amount of "steamy" stuff throughout, 'BRZRKR: Bloodlines' (Volume #1) pulls no punches in delivering the aforementioned elements. The plot aspect could have been done better in my opinion, but nonetheless, this was a pretty good enough read altogether.
Rating: - 7/10 (A fun read)

Biography

At the outset of Aegon’s Conquest, House Fell of the Felwood was at its peak in size, strength, and renown - mostly a result of the diligent efforts of Lord Erich Fell and his two eldest sons, both of them renowned knights and skilled warriors who had made names for themselves across the Stormlands. Theomore was Erich’s third son, and as a young man he seemed destined to be forgotten - but Theomore always knew his purpose.
Theomore was born a decade after his elder brothers, and while they squired and trained with their father, Theomore was taken care of by his mother. Lady Fell was a pious woman, she spoke every day with the Felwood Septon and she wished to raise young Theomore to one day take up that role. The importance of faith was imprinted on him from a young age, and like his mother, he too learned to love the Seven. His mother’s plans, however, did not come to fruition, at eight Lord Fell began instructing Theomore at arms, much to his mother’s dismay. As a young boy, he was plump, and he struggled to take to the art, Ser Felton, he was a brutal man but with him, Theomore learned discipline, and his fat turned to muscle. At thirteen he returned home, and by then his brothers were known across the Stormlands as chivalrous knights, instead of placing Theomore on the same course, Erich intended to groom the strong boy to be the keeps next Master-at-arms, instead of a tournament knight like he’d trained his two eldest sons. For the next four years, he trained with a greatsword and learned to master foot combat. Quickly, he learned that his strength meant an aggressive and violent style of fighting that resulted in more favourable results, his father encouraged this style of vicious fighting and very soon his brothers, as well as the other soldiers and garrison who trained with him, could no longer match Theomore in a duel on foot.
Despite exceeding his father’s expectations for him, Theomore would feel unfulfilled by his life of meaningless combat. As he stood to inherit no land, Theo was unbound by the land and was free to travel anywhere he wished - something he became keenly aware of. He expressed his discontent with staying in Felwood to both his parents, who both had very different solutions for his discontent. Lord Fell suggested Theomore travel to Essos and join a sellsword band, assuring Theo that any band would be as eager to reward Theo handsomely on account of his prowess as they would be to take someone trained to be a Westerosi Knight. His mother on the other hand vehemently opposed the life of a godless sellsword for Theo and instead suggested he either lay down the sword and join the faith, or join the Faith Militant if he wished to continue fighting. Theomore, still valuing the Seven above all else would heed his mother’s advice, travelling to Oldtown.
In those times, travelling between kingdoms was dangerous. Nobles of the Stormlands were not protected in the Reach, and the son of a landed lord would surely be worth a hefty ransom for any lord, knight, or brigand who could capture one. Theomore travelled incognito with a group of begging brothers. They were preaching in the Stormlands but agreed to travel to Oldtown with him. In the Stormlands the small group had little worry, they were afforded protection wherever they travelled within the kingdom, but that would change when they crossed into the lands of the Mander.
Although begging brothers were protected by most knights and lords, Theomore still had to worry if anyone found out his identity while he traversed across. This meant the group had to take more out-of-the-way paths through the region, avoiding castles and keeps whenever possible. They usually slept in tents, though sometimes inns would offer to house the group for free, sometimes the innkeepers would refuse them though, as begging brothers had no little means to pay them. Despite this, the group was able to make quick progress and avoid most danger, that is until they ran into a small band of broken men.
The brigands had only six men, but given how gaunt they all were it seemed they likely had more men before. Theomore faced the deserters alone, it was his first real combat but the long years of training and dedication allowed him to quickly pick apart the small group of starving and desperate bandits. Though not the most impressive feat, the begging brothers Theomore travelled with were eternally grateful, as despite the weakness of the broken men the brothers would have surely been killed had Theomore not travelled with them. Each of the brothers he travelled with were eternally grateful, and would later speak highly of him wherever their travels took them.
After reaching Oldtown and recounting the journey he took, the Faith was eager to adopt Theomore into their ranks. He was appointed as a squire of Ser Daven, a Captain of the Warrior’s Sons. Immediately, Theomore fell in love with the order, eagerly learning the history of the order and dedicating himself wholly to their mission. In training he immediately distinguished himself among the initiates and hopefuls, his strength and skill were unmatched by most other squires, and even other knights of the order struggled when facing the young Theomore. It took only eighteen months before Theomore was knighted by the Grand Captain and fully inducted into the order.
Theomore remained amongst the Oldtown chapter for some time, providing service and charity for the poor and escorting begging brothers as they travelled through the region. His first few years in the Warrior’s Sons coincided with Aegon’s Conquest. At the beginning of the war the High Septon declared the Faith would not involve themself in the conflict, Theomore’s family, however, did not have that choice. Theomore heard news of the fall of Storm King Argilac, and his two elder brothers who had joined Lord Errol’s host in attempting to ambush Aegon’s army in the Kingswood. His brothers were killed by the vicious beast Meraxes, and their deaths would shatter Theomore’s father, the once ambitious lord became a shadow of his former self, secluding himself in Felwood.
When Aegon moved to attack the Gardners in the Reach, Theomore was among the most vocal advocates for joining the greater host. He brought concerns about the strange gods they brought and feared they might send their dragons to destroy the Starry Sept. Despite this, the High Septon and Lord Hightower kept their forces in Oldtown, and at the Field of Fire, the Reachman host was destroyed as well as House Gardner. Following this Aegon was crowned in Oldtown, and Theomore and the rest of the realm were forced to kneel for the Conqueror.
For the first six years of Aegon’s reign, Theomore became heavily involved in the silent faction of the Faith opposed to the Targaryens. His once unwavering idealism is no longer as clear, as he quickly learned how to act to support his and his allies' motivations. Still a very active member of the Warrior’s Sons, his political allies support his quick rise through the order’s ranks.
Five years after Aegon was crowned, a brotherhood of robber knights in the Reach begins assaulting and stealing from members of the Faith, seizing donations from the faithful and in some cases murdering septons who refuse to part with the wealth. Two options arise, firstly, allowing Lord Hightower to hunt down the robber knights himself (as he had been doing, somewhat successfully) or attack the bandits themselves. Theomore becomes the most vocal advocate for ‘righteous self-defence’ as he calls it, claiming that regardless of Lord Hightower’s success those who wish to prey on the faith must understand that the Faith Militant will not allow such actions to permiss. In turn, despite his relative youth compared to some of the veteran captains of the order, Theomore was given command of one hundred and fifty knights to hunt down these robber knights.
Theomore and his men would first lay an ambush on a road that the bandits had attacked multiple times prior. They would capture several of the outlaws and under interrogation, the location of several outlaw encampments and hideouts would be uncovered. Lord Hightower’s men would also provide Theomore with several other hideouts they had discovered, and with this information, the knights of the Warrior’s Sons would make their assaults.
In a two-moon campaign, five outlaw hideouts were attacked, with every outlaw the Warrior’s Sons captured being put to the sword. The attacks were vicious and especially violent, and through them, Theomore earned the name ‘Fist of the Faithful,’ as his rousing call for self-defence had inspired many, and as a longtime friend of begging brothers and a feared enemy of outlaws, the name spread rapidly. Following the fifth hideout's defeat, the next three the Warrior’s Sons went to attack had been abandoned, ending the robber knight’s short reign of terror. During those two moons Theomore distinguished himself, he was a young man but he inspired his men and his skill in combat distinguished him as one of the order’s finest blades. The dedication he demonstrated in systematically and brutally eradicating the outlaws also marked him out as a man of action within the Warrior’s Sons.
Though a relatively insignificant event in the history of the order, Theomore had made a name for himself within the Faith Militant, he had many allies in the Faith as a whole and he had proven himself as a leader. He had become an influential member of the Oldtown chapter and remained that for some time, but ten years after Aegon was crowned, he was put in charge of another mission.
King’s Landing had grown rapidly since Aegon established the Aegonfort as his capital. People flocked to make the city their home and the number of faithful grew every year. Septs had been constructed and begging brothers preached regularly. The High Septon and Grand-Captain convened to discuss what measures should be taken to shepherd the new capital, foreseeing further growth the Faith elected to set up a new chapter in King’s Landing to help protect the interests of the Faith in the city. Theomore, a respected, highly skilled, and influential knight of the order, was given command of this new chapter.
Theomore initially only took forty men, his most trusted friends who had aided him in taking down the outlaw band that terrorized the Faith several years prior. It was intended to be a minor base for the Faith Militant, as they had no desire to spread their forces too thin given the growing influence of godless men from Essos whom Aegon and his brood supped with. It was meant more as a means for the High Septon to have eyes in King’s Landing. Still, Theomore was grateful for the opportunity.
Theomore brought with him Ser Colin Lybber and Ser Erwin Sloane, who served as his closest advisors. Together, the three ran the small and dedicated King’s Landing outpost, protecting the roads for begging brothers and all matters of smallfolk and providing charity within the city. Four years later, however, Septon Karron, like many in the Faith, had become increasingly worried about the religious issues brought on by the Targaryen Conquest. When Aegon was killed, things became unsettled, no one was safe and many in the Faith knew action had to be taken to protect themselves and the worship of the Seven. The Faith Militant began taking in more and more numbers, drastically increasing their effort to arm themselves. Theomore did as well, taking in more knights and expanding their efforts in the kingdom’s capital. One of those men was a young man named Morton Waters, who Theomore took as a squire, an unacknowledged bastard from a lord who had taken Morton’s mother by right of first night. Morton wished to be a knight, and Theomore saw in Morton the diligence and resolve that allowed him to become a great defender of the Faith. Over the next several years Morton earned his knighthood, establishing himself as a skilled warrior and the finest rider in the chapter.
Over the next ten years, Theomore increased the King’s Landing chapter to four hundred men. In all his years serving the order his foresight and dedication could never be questioned, despite his hatred for dragons, for Targaryens, for the ‘holy’ order of the kingsguard commanded by a worshipper of the Old Gods, he never strayed from his mission and maintained a good relationship with the Hand who had slaughtered his father’s men. Looking forward, Theomore intends to stay the course and will do anything the Faith, the High Septon, and the Grand-Captain ask of him.

Biography

A son was born in the year before the Conqueror’s arrival to the Lord of Riverrun’s younger brother, who served as a household knight and steward of the keep. Known by all as a proud and shrewd man, he worked diligently in his efforts to maintain the finances and prestige of their house. Not long afterwards, a sister made her appearance, and the riverlords rejoiced for their many blessings. Taken on by his uncle as a page and cupbearer at the age of six, the boy began the long journey towards knighthood. He served Lord Tully’s food, cleaned his armor, fed his hounds, and held a sword for the first time, albeit a training weapon. Whenever his services were not needed, he learned heraldry and horseback riding, attending his father and the other men on hunts within the Whispering Wood.
One of the boy’s earliest glimpses of memory was fire and blood. Buildings crumbling, dust choking, fire scorching, and the heavy, beating wings and terrible roar of a furious beast. When the septons arrived to bless the remains of the deceased, they found him tucked in a corner of the ruined stables, clutching at the corpse of his nameday gift, an orange tabby kitten. The hair had been singed from his small head, his skin was blistered and weeping, and the fingers of his left hand were fused together by the heat. Taken to Stoney Sept by his saviors, he spent many long, terrible weeks in a milk of the poppy-induced sleep at the hands of the healers, who fought tirelessly to keep the Stranger away. When he woke, he blessedly remembered nothing of the ordeal.
The kindly Septon Ambrose oversaw the boy’s continued education – reading, writing, numbers and history, all with a focus on the workings of the Faith. Amory, as they called him, was a quick and attentive learner. He made many friends amongst the wandering septons, sitting rapt at attention whenever they told stories of the realms beyond the borders of their humble home. His true identity was kept as a closely guarded secret by those who found him, for fear of bringing dragonfire down upon their heads. At five and ten, Amory set aside his brown cowl for robes of white, the youngest ever ordained septon (to anyone’s knowledge). He took to wearing a carved wooden mask to hide his scars from the world, though he’d long forgotten where they even came from. Traveling the riverlands from village to village, he held sermons on the goodness and grace of the Seven and healed the smallfolk of their spiritual ailments, performed marriages, blessing infants and forgiving sins. As a wandering minister, he became immensely popular, garnering much fame and attention and often being asked to visit various towns and villages.
While delivering sermons south of the Trident, Amory was called back to Stoney Sept where Ambrose lay upon his deathbed. The truth was revealed in the dying gasp of the old man; he was really Tristram Tully, the last of a fallen house. Utterly shaken by the news, he spent seven days and seven nights struggling with his beliefs while holding vigil within the sept for all that he’d lost – his family, his adopted father, and his name. He tore his robes and his hair, scourged his back bloody and raw, and prostrated himself before the gods. By the end of it, his faith had not fled but grown even deeper, for though he could no longer stand against the Targaryens in the name of House Tully, he firmly believed that the Seven would guide him on the path to retribution. On the morning of the eighth day, he emerged from the sept and made preparations to leave the village of his youth behind. He would travel to the Westerlands, where rumors told of a new militant order of the Faith on the rise.
There, he made the acquaintance of knights such as Ser Morden ‘Morningstar’, who became his traveling companion, and Ser Alesander, an aspiring captain within the Warrior’s Sons. Just two years after arriving at the temple, his popularity in the West had grown to heights rivaling the riverlands. While wandering with his constant shadow, he spoke out against the treatment of the smallfolk by the upper class during times of war: the fires set in their villages, the looting of their homes and the rape of their women. How, during times of peace, they were forced to hand over their hard-earned food for the lord’s granary and their coin for the king’s taxes. The rich in their castles lived in great excess and benefitted from the suffering of those who worked the land and lived simple, honest, godly lives. He paid for any provisions requisitioned from families out of his own pocket, and such was the fame and magnanimity of Amory that eventually the folk came running out to meet him whenever he arrived to give a sermon, acclaiming his name and offering gifts.
Whenever Septon Amory left the Westerlands behind, he was accompanied by a sizable flock of supporters, Warrior’s Sons, Poor Fellows and peasants alike. His teachings prove to be substantiated when the lords of the Reach answer with violence against the crowd. As the ground ran red with the blood of the martyrs, the High Septon himself was pressured to denounce the slaughter of the septons and their followers. Mercenary companies were unleashed by various lords to quell the unrest, which only served to harden the hearts of the smallfolk and the Faith Militant against them. Continuing on toward Oldtown, Amory was granted refuge at Holyhall for a time, where he befriended the bastard grandson of Lord Graceford. The two remained in touch even after the septon’s departure, and exchanged many letters.
Upon arriving at the city, a meeting was arranged with the High Septon himself, along with members of his council, and representatives from various lords. They offered to build Amory his own sept, tempted him with mountains of gold, and even promised a position within the Most Devout if he would control his fanatical followers and stop railing against the nobility, all to no avail. He could not be bribed, claiming to see the Faith as it truly was at that time – corrupt beyond redemption, and maintained that he had been chosen by the Seven as its savior. In his own words, the ‘wicked would fall before the righteous, and all creation would tremble before the standards of the faithful.’ Able to do very little against his growing influence, the High Septon was forced to concede, granting the Warrior’s Sons a portion of the land held by the Faith within Oldtown to build a chapterhouse.
Remarkably, things seemed to settle after that in spite of Septon Amory’s words. He busied himself with overseeing the building of the chapterhouse, and took to wandering the Reach as he had previously. The smallfolk were found to be as malleable as any he’d encountered thus far, and it wasn’t long before he had become a figure of great eminence among them. A year passed, and then another, and still a third, after which the uprisings all but seemed a thing of the past. The Warrior’s Sons kept themselves busy with expanding their holdings and influence, and Amory’s decree became little more than an afterthought. All was truly well, until the High Septon suddenly became ill after a meeting attended by septons of various orders. Although a robust and healthy man, he began to waste away over the course of days, with the maesters of the Citadel and numerous septons doing what they could to treat a perceived stomach illness. Eventually, his speech became too slurred to comprehend, and he died on the seventh day.
After a period of mourning and funerary rites, the Most Devout began the selection process to determine which of them would become the new High Septon. Before the voting could conclude, the Warrior’s Sons arrived at the steps of the Starry Sept with a figure both familiar and altogether new at their head. Septon Amory had shed his humble appearance as an adder sheds its skin, exchanging his wooden mask for one of silver and his plain linen robes for richly embroidered vestments. He was thusly appointed as the new High Septon by the Most Devout out of fear of his power and influence. His first act was to renounce the false gods of the East and to affirm that, as decreed by the laws laid down within the holy texts by the Seven, incest was an abomination. An excess of wealth was then transferred to the Westerlands for the upkeep of the temple garrison there. Many more drastic changes would take place after the new High Septon’s rise to power.
The first of these was the formation of the Knights Inquisitor, tasked with rooting out and punishing heretics within ecclesiastical courts. With the Faith Militant spreading to other kingdoms, the order was desperately in need of cohesive leadership. Ser Alesander, now Warden of the Temple, was anointed a third and final time and raised to the position of Grand Captain of the Warrior’s Sons. The Exemplary Soldiers of the Holy Brotherhood of the Sword were chartered, with seven of the greatest champions of the Faith chosen to serve as pillars of authority and shining examples of virtue. They pledged their swords not to the will of man, but to the gods themselves. Members of the Most Devout found embezzling money or otherwise participating in corrupt practices were ousted from their positions, which were then filled by the High Septon’s loyal followers. A lengthy meeting with Lord Hightower soothed any tensions that remained between the Reachlords and the faithful, and established much favor between them.

2024.05.17 16:19 Low-Entropy We asked ChatGPT to conceive ideas for more movies in the vein of "Hardcore Never Dies" - and we loved the results!

The Dutch movie "Hardcore Never Dies" rocked the Hardcore Techno world (and probably part of the movie world, too), because it did something no movie did before: it featured Gabbers as part of a *narrative* movie - a movie with story-line, plot, actors. With action, drama, drugs, sex, fights...
Until now, all features about Gabbers and their history were in the realm of documentaries and biographies instead... with people getting interviewed, then we see shots of their homes, their record collection, the place inside the cupboard where they hid their drug stash from both their overly zealous parents and overly eager siblings... maybe a cut to an empty former rave location, or live footage from the golden days. You get it. Documentaries, not narratives.
Of course, many people ended up hating the very "Hardcore Never Dies" movie because of this. They didn't want to see a psycho drama about socially troubled gabbers, they wanted... "man just give us the music.... the muuusic... and the parties... and the memories... and the drugs! That's what we want."
But not us. No-no! We like this idea of Gabber narratives. We see the potential. We need more plot-driven Gabber movies! But who can write a good script for these movies? We aren't exactly screenwriters...
But we know someone who's got talent for that! And of course it's ChatGPT. We asked the friendly AI about ideas for more Gabber movies. And to write a short draft script for each. And it did! And we enjoyed the results. And we hope you do, too. So here they are.
And we dearly hope that a fat cat Hollywood producer, or a small indie producer, will turn one, or more, of these scripts into a fully-fleshed movie release one day.
So... let's ride!
Beginning of transcript:
User Hello chatgpt how are you today? let's work on a new project!
ChatGPT Hey there! I'm doing great, thanks for asking! Working on a new project sounds exciting. What do you have in mind? Let's dive into it!
User as you know, i help with running an e-zine called the hardcore overdogs. we published a little feature on a new dutch hardcore techno movie called "hardcore never dies". i want to follow up on it, ChatGPT.
the follow up i envision is: let us explore the ideas about "fictional gabber movies" further, and you write a little draft for them, would that be okay?
ChatGPT Absolutely, that sounds like a blast! I'm totally down for fleshing out those fictional Gabber movie ideas. Here's a little draft to get us started:
Title: Hardcore Warfare
Synopsis: In the concrete jungle of Rotterdam, where the streets are ruled by violence and chaos, two rival gangs clash in a battle for supremacy. On one side, you have the ruthless Syndicate, a criminal empire that deals in drugs, extortion, and murder. And on the other side, there's the Bass Brigade, a tight-knit crew of hardcore ravers who refuse to back down in the face of adversity.
As tensions escalate between the two factions, the city becomes a war zone where blood is spilled and lives are lost on a daily basis. Caught in the crossfire is Alex, a young Gabber recruit who finds himself thrust into the heart of the conflict when his best friend is killed in a drive-by shooting.
Determined to seek revenge and protect his community, Alex joins forces with the Bass Brigade as they prepare for the ultimate showdown against the Syndicate. With adrenaline-pumping beats fueling their every move, they must navigate treacherous alliances, deadly betrayals, and the ever-present threat of annihilation.
But as the battle reaches its climax, Alex begins to question whether violence is truly the answer or if there's another way to bring peace to the streets. With the fate of Rotterdam hanging in the balance, he must make a choice that will define not only his own destiny but the future of the Bass Brigade as well.
With pulse-pounding action, heart-stopping suspense, and a killer soundtrack that'll leave you wanting more, Hardcore Warfare is a gang war movie like no other that proves sometimes the loudest voices are the ones that refuse to be silenced.
User Love it! and now please go to the next story idea:
ChatGPT I'm thrilled to tackle this one! Here's a draft for a romantic comedy:
Title: Gabber Love
Synopsis: In the bustling streets of Amsterdam, where the beat of hardcore techno pulses through the air, two worlds collide in the most unexpected way. Meet Emily, a sophisticated socialite with a penchant for designer labels and champagne brunches. And then there's Mike, a rough-around-the-edges Gabber with a heart of gold and a passion for the underground rave scene.
When Emily's world and Mike's collide at a Gabber party in an abandoned warehouse, sparks fly in the most unlikely of places. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, Emily and Mike find themselves drawn to each other in ways they never thought possible.
As they navigate the highs and lows of their budding romance, Emily must confront the judgmental stares of her upper-class friends and family, while Mike struggles to break free from the constraints of his working-class upbringing. But through it all, they discover that love knows no boundaries and that sometimes, the most unexpected connections are the ones that end up meaning the most.
With plenty of laughs, heartwarming moments, and of course, hardcore techno beats, Gabber Love is a romantic comedy for the ages that proves that true love can conquer all, even in the underground world of Gabber.
Let me know what you think or if you're ready for the next story idea!
User great! next one.

Title: Gabber Uprising
Synopsis: In a future where authoritarian rule has plunged society into darkness, a rebellion is brewing in the underground. Enter the world of Gabber Uprising, where the pounding beats of hardcore techno serve as the soundtrack to revolution.
Amidst the dystopian landscape of a city consumed by corruption and inequality, a group of rebels known as the Gabber Underground rise up to challenge the oppressive regime. Led by a fearless DJ known only as "The Messiah," they use their underground parties as a platform to spread a message of unity, defiance, and resistance.
As the Gabber Underground gains momentum, they attract the attention of the government's ruthless enforcers, led by the sinister General Hammer. With his iron fist and his army of techno-phobic soldiers, General Hammer will stop at nothing to crush the rebellion and maintain his grip on power.
But the Gabber Underground refuses to back down, rallying supporters from all walks of life to join their cause. From DJs and producers to dancers and activists, they come together to fight for a future where freedom and creativity reign supreme.
As the battle between the Gabber Underground and the forces of oppression reaches its climax, the fate of the city hangs in the balance. With adrenaline-pumping beats and pulse-pounding action, Gabber Uprising is a thrilling tale of resistance, redemption, and the power of music to ignite change in even the darkest of times.
Let me know if you'd like any adjustments or if there's anything else I can add!
User now a 4th draft, please.

2024.05.17 15:40 PineapplesOnFire Music in the show

What are some of your favorite uses of music to help the scene? I love “I Go To the Barn Because I Like” in Mr. Yin Presents. “Space Age Love Song” when Shawn & Jules roller skate is precious. “More Human Than Human” in ‘Gus Walks Into A Bank’. I think the music overall is perfect, with the glaring exception of that wretched Steve Perry song in ‘A Very Juliet Episode”. It’s so out of place and doesn’t fit the tone of the scene / series at all.

The Guacamole Incident, 1978.
The original story from Van Halen tour manager Noel Monk claimed that Steve Perry walked into Van Halen’s dressing room and was accidently caught in the crossfire of Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth’s food fight.
"From the top of his luxurious mane of silky black hair to the middle of his shimmering new sateen Journey jacket, (Steve Perry) was completely covered in guacamole.
“'I was going to wear this onstage tonight,' he told me, tapping the chest of his jacket, his lower lip quivering. 'Look at it now – it's f---ing ruined.'
“Words failed him, and for a moment I thought he was about to erupt – to start screaming, to demand that we pay for damages and leave the tour immediately, have our heads mounted on spikes and set outside the front doors of our next gig, but instead he simply began crying, a soft, sad little whimper, and I felt bad for him."

In an interview with Rolling Stone published this week, Steve Perry has now given his version of the guacamole incident:
“One night, I decided I had to go tell him, ‘I just love you guys.’ I open the door and was about to say, ‘Hey, guys…’ Now, back in these days, guacamole came in a cottage-cheese–like container. The band was having a food fight,” Steve explained.
“Just as I was opening the door, a container of guacamole bumped off the mirror to my left and splashed against my most prized possession, being a small-town kid from Fresno. It was my satin tour jacket that had “Journey” on the back of it. Wearing that, I felt like I was finally somebody.
“The guacamole went on my left shoulder and my left arm. I looked down on it and I looked up at them and they sheepishly laughed like, “Oh s---.” I just looked at them and I closed the door and left because I was pissed. I went into the bathroom and I was just pissed. That was my prized jacket. I still loved them, but I couldn’t give them props anymore after that. I wiped my guacamole off my satin jacket.
He added: “I wouldn’t cry over guacamole. laughs It becomes folklore at some point. It becomes silly.”
Tears or no tears, both admired each others musicianship greatly. Steve enjoyed watching Van Halen perform from the side of the stage during their tour together, and Eddie even invited Steve to have a jam with the band in 1985.
“We were really blessed to be around that kind of musicality because it changed my life. It changed what I wanted out of myself. It changed what I wanted out of my songwriting. It changed what I appreciated. People should really know that not only did Van Halen truly make Journey a better band, they made a lot of bands a better band.” - Steve Perry

Biography

Lord Damon Manderly was born in 9 BC, the eldest born son of Lord Medgar Manderly and Iolande Ashford, the widow of Ser Torgen Tallheart and the mother of two small sons. At some point after her husband’s death Iolande returned to her parents’ home in Ashford, a rather impoverished widow and berefit of financial support for her two young sons. Iolande petitioned Medgar’s friend Lord Torrhen Stark of Winterfell for help in working out her financial plight. Lord Stark sent his friend Medgar the Lord of White Harnbor to investigate and the two fell in love and married in 10 BC, a year before Damon was born.
The birth of Damon was followed by that his younger brother Daron two years later in 7 BC during which his mother died in childbirth. In 2 BC when Damon was seven years old, he was sent to be fostered in Winterfell while his brother Deron was sent to the family of their grandmother - the Ashfords.
Damon was raised in the court of Lord Torrhen becoming familiar with the culture, education, and institutions of his host and making friends with the grandsons of Torrhen Stark who was of age. One of those was his cousin Rickard Snow, the son of Eddard Snow, one of the bastards of Lord Torrhen who had married his father’s younger sister Margaery Manderly.
In 5 AC when Damon was fourteen and still a squire, Torrhen Stark bent the knee to Aegon the Conqueror. The resulting rebellion called The Son’s War - a rebellion in the North against the surrender of Torrhen Stark. Led by the Heir to House Bolton, thousands of angry Northmen are crushed in battle by Torrhen Stark. Several of the defeated members flee east to form the Company of the Rose, including Eddard Snow and his son Rickard.
In 9 AC Damon was knighted by Torrhen Stark, as per his father Lord Medgar’s request, but despite this Damon, as his father’s heir, remained at Winterfell. His father, who had remarried to Myranda Hornwood, by then had many more sons, and hence made no overtures for his oldest two sons to return. Instead, Eddard, the eldest paternal half-brother of Damon, egged on by the support of his father’s second wife Myrcella, had been designated by Lord Medgar as heir to White Harbor, in his absence. Despite Lord Medgar’s violating of the laws of inheritance, Lord Torrhen chose not pursue the matter for the moment.
Damon notably chose to stay with his foster family, partly due to the influence of his raising at the court of Torrhen Stark and partly for the opportunity it would present to advance his career, though he may always have had in mind that one day he would become White Harbor’s lord, like his father and grandfather. To that end he developed an interest in architecture. Lord Torrhen assigned him to his team of engineers who were responsible for maintain Winterfell’s fortifications and other structures. (Architect). At the same time Damon’s work in this area developed his aptitude for driving a hard bargain (Avaricious) in negotiation.
In 14 AC, when Damon was 23 years old, Lord Torrhen Stark was overthrown and assassinated, after he informed his children of his intent to back one of the Dragon Queens. Damon’s father Lord Medgar, suspecting foul play from one or more of the Stark siblings loudly called for justice for the late lord, a close personal friend of his, prompting Damon to fear that he was no longer welcome in Winterfell.
The next year, Lord Regent Orys Baratheon called a grand hunt in the Kingswood. For the first time in many years Damon met his father Lord Medgar, his full brother Daron and his younger half-brothers and sisters when the Mandely family accompanied the new Lord Alaric south. The grand hunt would end in disaster as bandits would descend upon the hunting parties and kill or carry off many nobles. One of the victims was Damon’s brother Daron. The disaster in the Kingswood would eventually lead to most of the Starks returning to Winterfell but Lord Alaric remained along with Damon himself in order to exact revenge on the bandits.
As a youngster, Damon had always had an aptitude for the sea, something he had missed with his time in inland Winterfell. (Mariner) Now with his journey south first to White Harbor and then travelling by sea to Kings Landing he rediscovered his youthful passion. He began spending his time down at the docks in Kings Landing and much of his time on some of the warships of the royal fleet. He found that he had a natural aptitude for naval manoeuvres and over the next few years he commanded a small contingent of royal ships, refining and improving these skills (Admiral).
In 23 AC, Lord Medgar and his eldest son by his second wife and designated heir Eddard Manderly, a young man of 23 years old, were ambushed by crannogmen when they went to investigate the ruins of Moat Cailin. Medgar was killed and Eddard was mortally wounded in the same fight and died some days later. Medgar’s other sons 22 year old Emmon and 19 year old Edgar managed to escape the crannogmen and with the help of retainers and Lord Medgar’s brother Desmond returned safely to White Harbor.
A power struggle for the control of White Harbor now ensued. Lord Medgar’s younger brother Desmond Manderly took the opportunity to seize White Harbor attempting with Lord Medgar’s widow Lady Myranda to make young Emmon Manderly the new lord of White Harbor with himself and his sister-by-law as regents and ruler. His father’s death allowed Damon, as Lord Medgar’s eldest son to lay claim to White Harbor attempting to depose his uncle. Concerned about the growing power of White Harbor Lord Alaric, now serving as the realm’s Master of Laws in exchange for an oath of fealty to his person, Lord Alaric publicly invested Damon Manderly as Lord of White Harbor. Lord Stark placed Damon in charge of a force with the task of securing his claim. Defeating his uncle in a pitched battle, Damon deposed and imprisoned his half-brother Emmon, his uncle Desmond and his sister-by-law. Not wishing to kill his younger brother and uncle, Damon kept Desmond in close but comfortable confinement at White Harbor, while Emmon, (now effectively his heir) was exiled, so as not to be tempted to make another attempt on ruling White Harbor. Emmon went to King Landing south where he was stabbed to death in a brawl in Flea Bottom by a Westerlands knight of House Clifton. Shortly after the Lady Myranda died of illness, but some say of grief and despair at the loss of her husband and two eldest sons.
Since his elevation to the Lord of White Harbor, two years ago, Damon has made concerted efforts to further develop White Harbor’s trade links. A trade fleet has been constructed and Damon has sent out feelers to some of the city states of Essos (Merchantman), in particular Braavos. Seeking further links Damon has now travelled south to Kings Landing for the princes’ 18th name day celebrations.

2024.05.17 08:31 CorruptedKappa How to tell my ex I’m now in a Polly relationship (it’s complicated)

So here’s some backstory about 2 years ago I started a longish distance situationship with an ex coworker who we’ll call Steve. I had just decided that I needed to take some time for myself and stop dating for a bit but things quickly got serious between the two of us and we became official. We dated for about a year when I was offered a job opportunity which would require me to end my relationship with Steve. So I sat him down at dinner and ended things in person. Unfortunately the job opportunity fell through but I realized in the time we were separated that I wasn’t ready for a super serious relationship so when he asked me out again I told him I needed time for myself but I was fine still being friends. (Something to note is that our friendship always came before our romantic relationship so even though we weren’t dating we still cared about eachother a lot and are part of the same found family.) So after the decision to remain just friends I spent the following year on a bit of a self discovery journey. I learned that I’m poly and aromantic. I always thought that I was a bit less lovey dovey than all my romantic partners but I came to the conclusion that I honestly just don’t understand romantic love. I can still love people and form meaningful relationships I just don’t understand the romantic side of it which can be a bit confusing considering I’m also poly. If I could explain it better I would. Ok now with the backstory out of the way here is my current issue. I started dating two of my roommates recently Dee and Jake. We’ve gotten really close since we moved in together and they understand the whole aro thing and are super supportive and we just click really well. The problem is that my ex who is also one of my closest friends doesn’t know and I’m really scared to tell him because he still has feelings for me and I’m scared that if I tell him it might break him. He has been in a bit of an unstable state since we ended things and I’m worried that any positive progress he’s made mentally will be erased if I tell him. On the other hand it’s killing me keeping it a secret from him because it feels like I’m lying to his face every time we talk. I wouldn’t be opposed to restarting our relationship because he is an extremely good person who I really care about but I’m not going to end the ones that I’m currently in and I’m not sure how he would react to a poly lifestyle and I don’t think I am suited for a monogamous one. So how should I go about telling him about my current relationship and the fact that I’m aro? I just want to put it out there now that I am very much aware that poly relationships aren’t for everyone and my being in one doesn’t mean that I’m unfaithful or just wanting to sleep around with the benefits of a relationship. I truly care about and respect my partners and their opinions.
