2024.05.18 21:35 Carlangas-010 I broke the m2 stand in my motherboard

https://imgur.com/a/cwRvxGq
so I tried to unscrew that stand but the thread is so little that it broke off now its stuck inside, what I do? I have a heatsink with mi m2 but it's not heavy enough to keep it complete flat, should I resign my self and use the back m2 slot? its PCI 3 so I don't know if I can put a PCI4 m2, will it actually heat up that much that it need a heat sink?

2024.05.18 16:28 MolaMolaMania Do I need to check my vanilla video settings or just use AMD Adrenaline for performance tweaking?

I have not started the game through the vanilla launcher in a LONG time until very recently, which was a mistake since I had to go through the laborious process of reverting the recent update as I clicked to far and mistakenly applied the update.
In preparation for starting a new game soon, I've been trying to use the latest version of AMD's Adrenaline program, 24.5.1, to improve my frame rate. I've seen some sites that show the vanilla game settings for Low, Medium, et cetera, and I'm wondering if I need to bother with them at all?
I have a pretty robust system, (at least for Fallout 4, see specs below), and I'm just trying to tweak a few things in Adrenaline to maximize my hardware and software for a smooth, high frame rate.
I had a very useful page on SlothyTech bookmarked, but now it seems it's been deleted. How well are the suggestions on this page going to work for me?

2024.05.18 13:52 daywalkerr7 GPU running at x8 instead of the supported x16 speed

I've an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super supporting PCI-E 3.0 x16
My motherboard is a Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite supporting PCI-E 4.0 x16
My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 3600
I've connected said GPU to said motherboard top most slot, the one that supports PCI-E 4.0 x16 and have no more PCI-E slots in use nor any M2 storage connected (I'm only using SATA drives).
The problem is that GPU-Z where it says 'Bus Interface' reports: ''PCIe x16 3.0 @ x8 3.0'' even when I click the test to make the graphic card run at full load.
Why isn't GPU-Z reporting @ x16 3.0 ?
I've tried all PCIE BIOS settings but nothing seems to get me past x8 speed into x16.
Perhaps having a PCI-E 3.0 x16 card connected to a PCI-E 4.0 x16 slot is supposed to make it run at x8 ? I dunno..

2024.05.18 12:44 sphericalhors Is it make sense to upgrade Palit KalmX 1650 to 3050 6GB?

Hi all!
I have fanless PC build and currently I'm using Palit KalmX 1650 graphics card which is fine I think.
However there was a release of a newer graphics card in KalmX series: 3050 6GB.
Tech specs doesn't seem to be very different, however I'm considering upgrading it, but I have my concerns.
Pros
Cons
Here is a tech spec comparison:
1650 3050 6GB
Memory Amount 4G 6 GB
Memory Interface 128bit 96 bit
DRAM Type GDDR5 GDDR6
Graphics Clock 1485MHz 1042 MHz
Boost Clock 1665 MHz 1470 MHz
Memory Clock 8 Gbps 14 Gbps
CUDA Cores 896 2304
Memory Bandwidth GB/sec) 128 168
Microsoft DirectX 12 API with feature level 12_1 Microsoft DirectX® 12 Ultimate
OpenGL 4.6 4.6
Bus Support PCI-E 3.0 x 16 PCI-E 4.0
DVI - Dual-Link DVI
HDMI HDMI 2.0b HDMI 2.1
DisplayPort DP1.4a x 2 DP1.4a x 1 (this is also worse in my opinion)
Maximum Digital Resolution 7680x4320@60Hz 7680x4320
Height 2 Slot 2 Slot
Board Size 178x138x38 mm 166.3 x 137 x 38.3 mm
Graphics Card Power 75 W 70 W
Recommended System Power 300 W 300 W
I have one 2560x1440 60 Hz display and one 1920x1080 60 Hz, and I'm not playing graphically demanding games. Typically I play Dota and sometimes Minecraft, Liftoff or CS, and rarely I play other games (like previous year I've played Death Stranding).
I'll be fine to upgrade it if I get like 15% performance boost in games, but I'm afraid that the performance would be the same because of lower graphics clock in 3050 and it also seems like it has worse memory interface (whatever that means).
Here is a comparison of those cards on videocardbenchmark (which I typically use to get at least some understanding how one GPU compares to another): https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/5069vs4078/GeForce-RTX-3050-6GB-vs-GeForce-GTX-1650
Seems like 3060 has 28% higher score.
UPD: I'm happy with FPS in the games that I'm playing, but I'm playing on medium graphic settings and I'd be happy to be able to use high settings more often.

2024.05.18 10:33 Cylin20 Need advice

Hi, I made this build so far and I’d like your opinion on it, if I’m missing anything (I’m not missing an ssd, I have the Nextorage 1TB ssd with heat sink in my PS5 I’ll just pluck it out and slap it in the pc) if there’s something I’m not taking the full potential of (case), if I can downgrade and get same performance/upgrade same price or a little bit more.
I’m also aiming for the Gold + black theme in the case I’m getting, But I know nothing about pc parts and how they look so I don’t know if the parts I added would achieve a similar look.
Country is Kuwait and I’m looking on Newegg.
Thanks!

2024.05.18 10:28 Ok_Mess2997 My bad I guess LoL

So I basically made 2 Posts about the game crashing on me cause of low VRAM, well I couldn’t stop searching for fixes, turns out I’m dumb af I bought a 4070 Super well yes I had it in a PCI-E 3.0 slot and my M.2 shared the connections so I had a RTX 4070 super in an PCI-E 3.0 x4 slot. Maybe other should check this aswell cause yea man don’t read manuals. Sorry.
EDIT: I have no more lags on the chopper and get like 40fps more lol

2024.05.18 08:50 lurkalotter Frankenrig with 4 GPUs on 1x risers - what can I do to speed up PCIe

The GPUs are on those "USB3" risers, each fed from a PCIe Gen 3x 1 slot (the mobo has 8, I am using 4)
This is a Ubuntu 22.04 server setup, with Docker OpenWebUI and Ollama
I am running `nvtop` and watching the usage, specifically the PCIs Tx and Rx speeds, and from the request for a new model to the completion the PCIs speed never goes above 214kB/s, and even that for a split second - I was lucky to grab that screenshot just in time. usually it's in single(!) digit kB/s
I realise that the risers severely degrade the slots, so they are no longer Gen3, but Gen1, as nvtop shows, but even then, Gen1 x 1 PCIe should be in 250Mb/s range, not single digits kB/s
I have ran Nvidia's bandwidth test and it shows 800Mb/s for some reason, still way way higher than what nvtop shows. And loading a model and running inference is quite slow unless the model is already loaded, so I tend to trust the nvtop numbers more than nvidia PCI bandwidth test:
~/cuda-samples/Samples/1_Utilities/bandwidthTest/bandwidthTest -device=all [CUDA Bandwidth Test] - Starting... !!!!!Cumulative Bandwidth to be computed from all the devices !!!!!! Running on... Device 0: NVIDIA P106-100 Device 1: NVIDIA P106-100 Device 2: NVIDIA P106-100 Device 3: NVIDIA P106-100 Quick Mode Host to Device Bandwidth, 4 Device(s) PINNED Memory Transfers Transfer Size (Bytes)Bandwidth(GB/s) 320000000.8 Device to Host Bandwidth, 4 Device(s) PINNED Memory Transfers Transfer Size (Bytes)Bandwidth(GB/s) 320000000.8 Device to Device Bandwidth, 4 Device(s) PINNED Memory Transfers Transfer Size (Bytes)Bandwidth(GB/s) 32000000615.4 Result = PASS
So, I know that the risers suck at transfer speed, but perhaps I can squeeze a little more towards what nvidia's utility shows ? Anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the bus transfer in a system like this? (which was never designed for fast bus, lol - it's a mining mobo)
Also, is there a different way to hookup GPUs without those riser cards. Passive cables? Are they any better? Anything else perhaps?
Thanks for all your inputs, guys!

2024.05.17 22:55 b0r3d0mh00d Did I just kill my RX6700XT?

So, yesterday I had a "new" PC build: - GPU: XFX RX6700XT QICK (used) - CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F - MB: Asrock B650M Pro RS - PSU: Corsair RM750x
So, I set it up and everything boot up fine. I install windows 11, and everything is still fine. Then I decide to do a quick gaming test by installing CS2. It's installing 98% and I exit the room to do some work on my laptop. After 5 mins I hear my PC making some big noises. I come to the room and see all the fans are at full speed, and the monitor is not displaying anything. I panic and shutdown the PC by holding power button(i think). So, I'm guessing while I was in the other room, the game completed install and started, and somehow GPU or another component got under heavy load and then the PC started freaking out.
So I boot my pc again, and monitor still not displaying anything. The OS boots fine, I can hear windows startup sound, keyboard and mouse works(I can hear with narrator enabled)
Troubleshooting steps I have taken so far: - reseating RAMs - changing cables - switching from HDMI to DP - switching monitors - CMOS reset - BIOS update (via flashback) - using the 2nd PCiE slot - DDU (via RDP) - manual driver reinstall (via Device Manager, using RDP) - reseting Windows 11 - trying a different GPU: So, this once is also mysterious to me. I had a very old NVIDIA driver at home, so I decided to check my setup with it. At first boot, the monitor didn't display anything. Then I connected to PC with RDP and saw that Microsoft Defender "Core Isolation" is preventing the drivers from being loaded. So, I disabled the "Core Isolation" and rebooted. This time I got display on my monitor, I could see the windows login screen. Seeing that I thought I "solved" the problem(by disabling the core isolation), so I rushed and did DDU(to make sure nvidia drivers won't mess up with my amd card), then replaced the nvidia gpu with my rx6700xt, hoping that it will finally work. But, it didn't.. After that, with a hope of fixing the issue via BIOS, I reinserted the nvidia gpu, just to get display and start messing with bios settings. But this time it isn't displaying either.. Now I try to troubleshoot this nvidia card. I redo all my previous troubleshooting steps, and even try to run both graphics cards at the same time to see if it will somehow display something on the monitor. But it didn't..
I don't have another PC to test the GPUs, I only have a laptop. So, now I have just repacked my pc, and put it aside. Idk what to do next. And I'm afraid of buying another GPU just to get it bricked an hour later.
Any insights into what's happening would be very appreciated.
EDİT: Today I turned my PC on and the display SHOWED for the first time. However, after 5 minutes the display went blank again, and still not able to fix it. I'm thinking it's faulty psu, motherboard or display. Because the same thing happened with 2 different gpus.

2024.05.17 19:14 __Maro__ Questions about HPE ProLiant Gen10+

Questions about HPE ProLiant Gen10+
Hi!
Q1. I have all the bays occupied and an gpu in the pcie x16 slot. I was using the internal usb for the boot drive (usb to sata ssd). I ran it like this for 3 years now but when I migrated to truenas scale today it threw a report that the boot pool is on usb. So idk is this a problem nowadays?
Q2. Is the port for iLO enablement kit only for it or is it just standard x1 pcie? I know the port is closer to the back then standard but I would like to use a vertical pcie to nvme adapter. If booting from a ssd connected to the internal usb is not good anymore for truenas this is my only empty slot left! 😭
Q3. Friend offerd me a I5 - 7500T what are the odds it would work in the ProLiant? I have the stock pentium in it currently and the I5 has 4 cores and mainly 35w tdp that’s why i was considering it or similar 8/9 gen cpus with the T suffix. (I know they are not officially supported that’s why I am asking if someone tried them)
Thx for taking the time to read/respond!

2024.05.17 16:49 cesko21 Doubt with vodoo and gt6800

Im building a pc with a pentium 4 on a industrial motherboard with isa, and i want to build a very fast computer out of It. I bought an gt6800 that hasnt arrived yet. The isa on the motherboard interest me because i want to have sound in windows98 ms dos mode, but i was researching the gt6800 and i found out that there were BIOS rutines or something that disable the compatibility with ms dos. I was thinking about putting the 6800 ok the agp, and a vodoo banshee on the pci so i can have compatibility with ms dos. But how can i manage what GPU will initialize with the system each time? It would be even posible? Or i will need something like a vodoo 2?

I'm okay creating one that's compact from scratch but I would really appreciate some help on how I can go about something like this.

2024.05.17 12:12 schroboschrobo What mainboard to choose for ryzen

Hi all,
I thought I’d ask your help on a decision to take regarding my new pc, thx to this great community I decided to go for AMD Ryzen 77880x3d.
I’m not sure on what motherboard to buy, I have no preference on the brand nor colour or whatever.
The point where I can’t decide is, should I go for this: X670 with a Samsung 990 Pro or this: B650 with Samsung 980 Pro.
Will the speed be affected that much, or are there any other important point that would be important to consider?
I don’t need many slots, 2x M2, the 4080 rtx, a pci soundcard, and 2x 16 DDr5 6000.
All I want is a reliable system to play, without bluescreens (which AMD had tons like 15 years ago).
Thank you all for your answers/opinions in advance

2024.05.17 06:30 Ramned Red Lights on New Build CPU and DRAM

Hello yesterday I was building a cousin pc. I'm not the super expert but I did assembly mine and some friends of mine in the past.
The Specs are the next
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FWTsN6
I want to ask what the issue of my problem can be. As soon as I did connect everything (well in my mind) two red Leds were turned on static on my MoBo watching the manual it was for CPU and DRAM.
I did reconnect all wires based on what I read yesterday and turned on again and same issue.
Have few questions here.
As a first sight I thought it was a connection (power) issue so here is my question.
Well after that my computer didn't turn on well and multiple messages, i did disassembly reassembly with no success, and again I disassembly but this time I looked for RAM, CPU and Motherboard CPU Socket.
CPU and RAM looked good, all in shape. But on mother board there was some pins bended, so i end up returning the motherboard and I'm already waiting on the other one. I hope bent pins was the issue otherwise is there something I'm missing on the connections.
I already read and saw a video about the flashback upgrade I will do it on the other motherboard.
Thanks

2024.05.17 05:21 Rusikitrysiki Pc won’t post with gpu but will without it

I’ll start by saying this isn’t my first time building a pc, i’ve done a few. Pc won’t post when I have my gpu installed and my hdmi plugged into my gpu, but it will post if i unplug my gpu and plug the hdmi in the mobo. Both times the pc powers on and just no display on the first situation. Also my ez dubug vga light doesn’t light up or anything. Could it be a bad PCI slot or something else?
Should have enough power i have a 1300w psu gold plus and a 3090.
Edit: I should mention that the gpu and psu I brought over from my old build so I know they both work already.
