Suitable polymers for makeup setting spray + my Vitamin C formula

2024.05.19 06:33 YourFelonEx Suitable polymers for makeup setting spray + my Vitamin C formula

I'm working on a Vitamin C (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate) makeup setting spray. I live in a very hot, humid area so staying power is important to me.
On her blog, our Queen and Savior, LabMuffin Beauty, recommends using makeup setting sprays with polymers in the first four ingredients. I don't know a lot about polymers, so I was hoping this sub could help out... I don't have PVP, but I do have:
and Aristoflex AVC but I know it's incompatible with Aloe Vera
Would any of these work as a polymer in a makeup setting spray? Here is my formula so far:

2024.05.19 05:12 Unfair_Finger5531 Ingredients to Avoid Layering With Retinoids

This list is very ymmv for tret veterans. But for those starting out on tret who are wondering which ingredients may not mesh well with it, here's a pretty specific list of skincare ingredients you may want to watch out for. (This just refers to ingredients in products you use at the same time as tretinoin).
Avoid the use of other retinoids, AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mandelic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), benzoyl peroxide, PHAs and LHAs, clindamycin, adapalene, chemical peels, balsam of Peru (myroxylon pereirae), cinnamic aldehyde, cinnamyl alcohol, hydroxycitronellal, isoeugenol, eugenol, oak moss absolute, oil of bergamot, alpha-amyl cinnamic aldehyde, geraniol, linalool, lavender, perfumes, toilet water (perfumed water), colognes, masking perfumes, unscented perfumes, aroma chemicals, essential oils, cassia oil, cinnamon, cloves, citronella, ethylene bassylate, sweet orange, sweet basil, citrus lemon peel, limonene, spearmint, and menthol at the same time when applying Tretinoin.
The person who made the list simply expanded on the warning in the tretinoin instructions. The instructions are:
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, it is especially important to avoid using the following skin products on the same area as tretinoin: Any other topical acne product or skin product containing a peeling agent(eg, benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, or sulfur).
Some of ingredients listed above fit into these categories. Others are common allergens or fragrant ingredients or astringents.
If you are trying to find a moisturizer to layer with tret or tazorac, perhaps it would be helpful to avoid these ingredients if possible.
That said, many people do just fine layering tret with acids and other ingredients on this list. If you do, no worries.
But the list works for me as a good guideline whenever I consider introducing any new products to layer with tret or tazorac.
If anything is missing, please let me know. The link: https://thewomensalley.com/tretinoin-for-skin-ultimate-guide/

2024.05.19 02:07 Razor1912 Hydration hacks besides the sauna?

33 male here and had dry skin and redness around my nose, eyebrows and forehead since my 20's. I tried many different things - showering less, with cold water, 10+ different moisturisers and other crèmes and nothing really worked, I had to pluck out dry skin out of my eyebrows manually every day.
A few months ago I came on this sub and discovered some drops that were miraculous. I did a 3 step face thingy with cleaning, then using alpha hydroxy acid and finishing with niacinamide. Within 48 hours the results were already astounding and a week later my dryness which bothered me for quite some time was almost all gone! Witchcraft!
I recently had dry skin again, including my arms and hands, and went to the sauna twice last week, somewhere I hadn't been in years.
Since my visit my entire skin is moisturized? I haven't used any crème or drop at all and have zero dry skin. In fact my skin just feels incredibly soft and hydrated all the time. I start to understand how rich people can look so healthy lol! So anyway are there any other easy tricks because this is really eye opening! Thanks.

2024.05.19 01:05 trekktrekk First beer; finished higher gravity than expected

Guinness Draught clone (mash in BIAB via sous vide immersion circulator) OG: 1.041 FG: 1.012
Recipe listed as OG = 1.038 FG = 1.006; IBU = 45 SRM = 36 ABV = 4.2%
I split a 5 gallon recipe into 2.5 gallons for my fermonster. I actually ended up with 3 gallons accidentally (I sparged a gallon and overestimated how much water I could use) and my starting gravity was higher (I think since I split the recipe and put aside what I weighed the leftover was actually ever so slightly more than half)
2.5 lbs. (2.3 kg) English 2-row pale ale malt {Believe there was slightly more} 1.25 lbs. (1.1 kg) flaked barley .5 lb. (0.45 kg) roasted barley (500 °L) {possibly slightly more} 12 AAU East Kent Goldings hops (60 min) (1.2 oz./34 g of 5% alpha acids) Wyeast 1084 (Irish Ale) or White Labs WLP004 (Irish Ale) yeast (1 qt./1 L yeast starter)
History of gravity: Date: Gravity 5/9/2024 1.014 5/10/2024 1.012 5/11/2024 1.008 5/13/2024 1.01 5/18/2024 1.012
Other activity: 5/11/2024 testing frozen yeast and canned starter, worked (24hrs) - pitched due to stall 5/13/2024 still seems stalled; added 1/2t fermax
Why? What could have happened?
Actionable now: I'm considering since I am a mead maker adding a bit of honey to bump the gravity to the expected 4.8 or so.
I went ahead and racked it over into two 1 gallon carboys.
I'm also seeing that a lot of people don't bother with a secondary for beer. What are your thoughts? Since I'm planning on kegging and using a bottle filler to carbonate this perhaps I should have just gone straight into a keg?
Once I've made the decision on if I will try to bump the gravity or not I will stabilize via pasteurization or potassium metabisulfide and potassium sorbate.

2024.05.18 17:12 7e7en87 Anybody taking OptimALA version of NA-RALA(most bioavailable R-lipoic acid)

My sixth bottle came yesterday from ND. Was taking 3 capsules daily for first 2months, now 2 capsules(2caps would be reccomended dosage and one month stash as it has 60 capsules).
This supplement did what lyrica()pregabalin never come close to do stopping nerve pain(pins and needles, burning sensations, cold sensations and like ants crawling through my whole body). I realize also my tinnitus dissapered completely and eye floaters especially on clear sky and white backgrounds is gradually depleted.
OptimALA is mix of NA-RALA which is most bioavailable natural R-isomer of lipoic acid with a highly specialized starch called Cyclodextrin. By loading R-ALA into these cyclic starches, R-ALA stability is drastically improved, as is the bioavailability. Also third component is sesame seed extract that is very high in two sesame lignans called sesamin and sesamolin. The combination of alpha lipoic acid and sesamin has been shown to enhance each other effects, especially when it comes to fat loss and the optimization of our metabolic process.
Taking NA-RALA deplete thiamine so taking also fat soluble B1 called Benfotiamine is smart move and B1 is most important B vitamin for nerve health and normal glucose levels.
As I realize and read from studies R-lipoic acid is only antioxidant soluble in fat and water that passes blood brain barrier and chelate mercury, iron etc.other heavy metals, toxins., slow brain atrophy in MS by regenerating glutathione, vit.C, vit.E and Coq10, also new studies confirm that R-lipoic acid increase NAD levels.
Suplements that also can boost glutathione like NAC and sulforaphane I never felt anything, maybe something from Curcumin bcm-95 version but nothing significant,
It is being tested for its ability to boost myelin repair in MS as it lowers several markers of inflammation and reduces the number of immune cells that migrate into the brain and spinal cord and damage the myelin coating of nerves.
Main problem is with short 3hour half life of lipoic acid and R-S plain ALA is highly unstable, that is improved by NA-RALA, but OptimALA improved that even further with other two compounds that blend perfectly with NA-RALA.
I was taking before ALA 600mg, ALA sustained 600mg, NA-RALA and only with NA-RALA like 500mg seeing some progress. OptimALA is on whole another level as it has best bioavailability by far and clearly it is doing something.
Best way to take it is 2hours before or after food.
I truly believe this supplement is a wonder for brain and nerves. Our body produce tiny amounts of lipoic acid and when we age(also like CoQ10) levels are dropper from around 35 years old age and toxins and heavy metals are gradually contributing to this even before.
Red meats, particularly organ meats are the highest food source of Alpha Lipoic Acid. With that, broccoli, spinach, beets are other great sources too.
When I buy supplements I want best quality(3party lab tested) and what is in the vein with research.(bioactive compounds and to get highest bioavailability).
This is only supplement that I would highly reccomend even in front of mushroom extracts and some peptides.

2024.05.18 15:56 nouranashrafak Do type 2 get hypos often in summer?

I'd appreciate any insights since I'm new to all of this. I'm type 2 (25 f) and was diagnosed four months ago as type 2 and since then I dont think I have ever gotten a hypo. The weather is starting to get hotter in my country and yesterday I was getting my dad's numbers (he's also type 2) and after it I also got my numbers and it was 66. I didn't feel anything except being lightheaded but I thought it's because I woke up from a nap or sth so i didnt bother to retest and only tested again after dinner and it was 122. Today I felt my hands shaking and kept sweating so i took my numbers and it showed 72. for some reason i thought there's sth wrong with the machine and took my readings again after 15 mins and it was 75. Thing is, I never had my numbers like this. Lowest I ever gotten is 92. I dont eat the healthiest yet and I have depression so I can't move much but I take my meds religiously and that has kept my numbers between 92 to 150 all these months. Could it just be the summer heat? and google says 72 or 75 is not that low, so am i just overthinking this? Meds I take are Metformin XR (500mg in the morning and 500mg at night) and empaglaflizon 25mg in the morning. I also take alpha lipoic acid for neuropathy

2024.05.18 14:28 JustJoyousForNothing TTC for ~3 years now, multiple FETs and fresh transfers - failure. Feeling totally lost. Need help/suggestions/advice.

Hi everyone,
Me (F, 33) and husband (M, 33) have been TTC for ~3 years now, 1.5 years with IVF treatment. Never conceived/got pregnant yet. I have been quietly lurking in the subs here and some of your posts/comments have been helpful in many ways. This is my first post here.
History/tests done and results for me so far: Normal TSH, DHEA-S 294.8 ug/dl, AMH 1.21 ng/mL (low for my age?!). Have PCOS. No abnormal gene carrier, normal karyotyping results, no Lupus, no Anticardiolipin Ab, no HBSAg, no autoimmune diseases. HyCosy/HSG/MRI revealed left fallopian tubes was blocked and had adhesions along with the left ovary. Also learnt through the IVF cycles that my left ovary doesn't do much - barely any eggs retrieved from the left ovary, most eggs are coming from my right ovary. I also had surgery to remove polyps and uterus septum before any IVF cycles. I also had low Vit D for ~3 years, at normal levels now with taking regular supplements. Now I am actively trying to lose some weight to see if it helps (??!!) - weight in March 2024 was 196 lbs., current weight is 182 lbs. (height is 5'3"). Trying to lose more weight - walking 10K steps a day, focusing more on protein intake, low carb, clean eating no junk.
History/tests done and results for husband so far: 1 out 3 tests showed slightly abnormal sperm morphology. Sperm DNA Fragmentation Assay (SDFA) score 19 (borderline between 'normal odds' and 'reduced odds' of success). No abnormal gene carrier. Normal karyotyping results. No autoimmune diseases.
Supplements/medications I am taking: Prenatal, Vit D, Vit C, CoQ10, Omega3, Alpha lipoleic acid, Seed probiotics, Metformin.
Supplements/medications husband is taking: Multi-vitamin, Vit D, CoQ10, Omega3
IVF retrieval and transfer history/timeline:
1st retrieval in May 2023: Used GonalF 375 IU, MenoPur 150 IU, Cetrotide 0.25 mg. Trigger with 10,000 IU HCG. Retrieved 10 eggs, only 1 of those could be frozen after PGT-A. Used ICSI for this cycle.
FET in July 2023: Used oral Medrol, oral and vaginal estradiol, crinone progesterone vaginal gel once a day and PIO every 3 days. Transferred 1 PGT-A tested Day 5 embryo (4BB) - ended in chemical pregnancy.
2nd retrieval in end of Sept 2023: Used Clomid flare, GonalF 450 IU, MenoPur 150 IU, Cetrotide 0.25 mg. Trigger with 10,000 IU HCG. Retrieved 10 eggs, only 3 of those could be frozen after PGT-A. Used ICSI, Zymot for this cycle.
Fresh transfer in Oct 2023: Used only Crinone progesterone vaginal gel once a day. Transferred 1 untested Day 5 embryo - No implantation.
FET again in Nov 2023: Used oral Medrol, oral and vaginal estradiol, crinone progesterone vaginal gel once a day and PIO every 3 days. Transferred the remaining 2 PGT-A tested Day 5 embryos (4AB and 5AA), also used embryo glue - No implantation.
Doc suggested removing my blocked left fallopian tube -- had laparoscopic salpingectomy surgery in Feb 2024. Took uterine tissue biopsy samples during surgery - normal results, Doc mentioned no endometriosis.
3rd retrieval in April 2024: Used Lupron 10 IU, GonalF 300 IU, MenoPur 300 IU. Trigger with 10,000 IU HCG. Retrieved 8 eggs, 2 of these made it to blasts, none frozen. Used PICSI for this cycle. I was also on Dexamethasone.
Fresh transfer in May 2024: Used only Crinone progesterone vaginal gel once a day. I was also on Medrol, baby Aspirin and Doxycycline. On top of this, I added Pepcid, Claritin, Benadryl. Transferred 2 untested Day 3 embryos - No implantation (got beta result yesterday, also got my periods right after the blood draw in the morning, was devastated).
I have also tried eating pineapple core, beet+pomogrenate juice, McD fries, sex the night before transfer - all of it.
I am at a loss, I do not know what to do now. I am sitting and sobbing here as I am writing this. Thankfully, my insurance covers most testing and procedures, except PGT-A and my medication has copays. But this process is so emotionally draining. My husband is super supportive and tries to keep a positive vibe all the time, but I feel bad for us. Also, it is so hard to keep a nice face at work - no one (family, friends, colleagues) knows we are TTC with IVF.
What are we missing here? I feel like I have implantation issues? Any more testing? What else can I do?
Please let me know what worked for you, what more can be done in my case to have a successful pregnancy. ANY help is appreciated. TIA.

Making the best pre-workout Indian has ever seen [UPDATE!]
First of all, a big thank you to this entire community for the support and knowledge they have given me!
This is an update to another post I had made in this group 2 months ago about launching my own supplement company and making the most potent formulas out there.
We have finally registered our brand and have made it official! We call ourselves Heresy®, backed by evidence, not empty hype.
After researching and a lot of back and forth with multiple manufacturers, we have reached a point where we are finalizing the formula and price. I'm here to ask y'all for input and advice.
India is one of, if not the most price-sensitive market, with that being said, I wanna understand which of the following formulas do you guys think is the most bang for the buck and if y'all would buy it? (The total includes other product costs, i.e. packaging, distribution, taxes, etc.)

2024.05.18 05:47 TheTomatoSlasher I want to add azelaic in my routine. Will it be too much- or just okay?

I want to add azelaic in my routine. Will it be too much- or just okay?
Morning Routine • Cosrx Salicylic face wash • Dermorepubliq Alpha Arbutin + tranexic tomer • BOJ Light on Serum • BOJ Rice + alpha arbutin • Sunscreen
Evening • Cosrx Salicylic face wash • BOJ BHA Toner • BOJ Propolis niacinamide toner • BOJ Dynasty Cream
This routine is said to be good for tiny bumps, marks. It’s my 2nd month of using these products and I see that my skin is getting healthier but marks and a few bumps are still visible. Any product review is appreciated.
I want to incorporate TO Azelaic acid in my regimen but I am not sure how to or where I should layer it in my routine.
Please help, thanks.

2024.05.17 21:52 liquidcat0822 [product request] PIH on body due to KP

Hey all, I (41F) have had keratosis pilaris almost all of my life, and for the most part it doesn’t bother me.
However, I became very physically active in my mid-30s, and all that sweating and friction has resulted in PIH on my bum due to the KP. It’s not true acne, I’ve seen various derms about it over the years.
I have tried seemingly everything topical so far. A combination of various alpha and beta hydroxy acids has kept new lesions mostly in check by softening the keratin plugs. But no amount of hydroquinone, retinol, TXA, kojic acid and even IPL have helped the dark brown marks left behind. Some reading has shown that most of these treatments act on the epidermis, and if the damage is deeper in the dermis, none of these treatments target it (IPL could at higher wavelengths, but I believed they used like 550 for me).
I’m considering fraxel to target the deeper dermis. Have any of you tried this for PIH on the body? Did it work? What was your experience? Do you have other recommendations?
Please help because my polka dotted booty has me feeling so self conscious 🥺

Hydraulic fluid and base stock options
Definition: Hydraulic fluid is the energy transfer medium in all hydraulic systems. However, the job of hydraulic fluid goes beyond the simple transmission of power. Although transmitting hydraulic energy is the core purpose of hydraulic fluid, it is useful in four secondary functions - heat transfer, contamination removal, sealing, and lubrication.

Hydraulic machines produce a lot of excess heat during routine operations, often caused by inefficiencies of the components, like pumps and motors. Without a way to carry heat away from these components, it could result in overheating issues with resulting damage of seals and internal components, especially as a result of low local viscosity. As oil returns to the reservoir, it often passes through a cooler to help maintain optimal temperature range before it is pumped back out to the system. Conversely, hydraulic fluid can carry heat into a system during cold starts, when needed.
Hydraulic oil is prepared by the addition of additives in the base stock according to usage, area of usage, ambient condition of usage, the criticality of machines. There can be a variety of base stocks such as mineral oils, synthetic oils, vegetable oils, water-based oils. These base oils can be also further segregated as follows:
  1. Mineral Oils: Group I, Group II, Group III. Mineral oils are used in a variety of industries in various forms such as laxative in biomedicines, veterinary, etc as common ingredients in cosmetics, lubricant, and coolant in mechanical & electrical industries.
  2. Synthetic Oils: Halogenated compounds, Polyglycols (PAG), Polyether, Poly- alpha-olefin(PAO), Polyether, Silicones, Esters, Phosphate Esters, Polyol & Dibasic acid esters. Synthetic oils can be used as a substitute for petroleum refined oils in extreme temperature operations. One of the major advantages of synthetic oil is its ability to resist chemical decomposition in the presence of water, it also separates from water easily and can operate at higher pressures.
  3. Vegetable Oils: Natural vegetable oils such as Canola Oil, Soyabean Oil, Sunflower Oil, Cornflower Oil. Vegetable oils are mainly used in the food industry, they are also used in personal care and cosmetic industries, paint industries. They are also used in electrical industries as insulators due to their non-toxic nature.
  4. Water-Based Oils: Water Glycols, Emulsions, Synthetic Solutions. Water-based oils such as water glycols, emulsions have excellent fire-resistant properties. Excellent fire-resistant properties along with good cost and performance make it the right choice for many industrial applications. They also have good operating pressure and temperature ranges.
Thus from the above illustrations, we can identify different types of base stocks and their segregations, and use of these segregations according to the customized needs.
