What to do in my kitchen?
The kitchen in my new house is lovely. However, there’s this odd front-of-the-house-facing space that I’m not yet sure what to do with yet. I was thinking maybe a bar cart or wine storage… but I’m not sure how that would work here with the window. Looking for a way to make it seem intentional… I would love ideas! Thank you in advance!

2024.06.02 08:15 Sickofit02 Chinese American-Visiting my estranged family

Hello, I am a biracial Chinese American (22, F) -like very americanized- and visiting my mom and grandma for the first time in a while and bringing my Caucasian boyfriend so he can meet them. I haven’t spoken to my mom since I moved out at 18 and haven’t seen my grandma since I was a kid, but that’s not what I need help with, I’m going to seek advice from my therapist.
What I was wondering is what should my bf or me bring? I’m good at art so I was thinking of making a charm or something wishing good health (my grandmas health has been declining) or just some tea. She’s diabetic too so snacks are probably out of the question.
I also don’t know what my bf should call my grandma. I speak elementary level mandarin and call her Hao Po. I just don’t know if there is something more fitting for him to call her.
Any customs (dos or don’ts) for introducing my partner or ways he can earn their respect is also appreciated, I’ve never done this before!!!
Thank you for the advice!

2024.06.02 08:14 AkumaZ Dojo Guide to Higher Scores

Aka your roadmap to the leaderboard!
Who am I? A dojo obsessed masochist who is nearing the end of mirroring every dojo fight (beating enemies with their weapon and style)
I’ve gotten on the leaderboard a few times in the process and it’s gotten me more interested in how it all works and figured sharing what I’ve learned can help others
Alright let’s start by breaking down the scoring, which will lead into some more detailed breakdown of things
You’re score is based on 3 things
Time
Damage
Technique
First off, Time. This is really your DPS score, the faster you kill the enemy the higher the score, I’ve seen upwards of around 4600 I think and I’m not sure you can get much higher than that, but this is truly a measure of how well you kill things.
Next: Damage. This is actually scored based on how much damage YOU take, with a max score of 4200. Now if you take even a single hit, that drops down 1-200 points depending on the severity of it and can quickly drain your score if you keep getting hit
Now if you’re only worried about the master rank of 7k, you can kinda see how just no hitting and killing fast regardless of anything else gets you there
So here’s where it gets more interesting
Tech. This is scored on 3 different things. How many crits you get, how many countersparks you get, and how many martial arts you land
The martial arts part I think has a quality and quantity score, aka landing a few big ass hits scores just as well landing a bunch of weaker ones, which is why you’ll still see good tech scores from Greatswords and Odachis despite less total MAs used
Now prior to the most recent update, it was just Crits and Countersparks, and typically the ceiling for that score was around 1600 or so. Now though, you can get tech scores 2000-2500+ if you’re landing martial arts all over. Sometimes then it’s actually worth it to drag a fight out a bit longer in order to get more Countersparks and MAs landed. You might lose 2-400 points on the time, but potentially gain 800+ on tech in the process
Again for the 7k threshold, this is easy as hell to reach with the change, but if you’re going for something higher like the leaderboard, you more or less have to do damage exclusively with Martial arts. After all any regular hit done doesn’t get you any points in itself (but if it helps you kill faster then it helps your time score)
So it serves you well to figure out what combination of MAs work for you and your favorite styles. Violent Gale and Flash attacks are also pretty crucial to this, not because they score points by themselves but they allow you to more quickly transition from skill to skill so you can land more scoring Martial Arts. PLUS they help your Ki management and recovery.
So how do you get in the leaderboard? Simple really
Don’t get hit, counterspark damn near everything thrown at you, deal damage almost exclusively with Martial arts, and get at LEAST one critical hit in the process. 2 is better but not always possible
Pre 1.05 9000 pts was sorta the threshold for “great”, didn’t take a perfect no hit run but overall excellent play. 10k+ was the realm of absolute perfection (or pre nerf Unearthly Flame)
Post 1.05, 9k isn’t such a hard thing to achieve, I’d say 9700ish is the new equivalent of that, with 10k+ being the next step, and likely puts you on the leaderboard. Absolute perfection with a meta strategy puts you in the 11k range
And not all fights are created equally, as an example I think Genzui first dojo fight actually has a higher scoring potential than the fierce version because of the mock vs actual combat, allowing you to get an extra crit and more countersparks
Let’s also compare the 2 different types of dojo fights. Mock combat and Actual Combat
Mock combat is with wooden weapons, damage is much lower and fights tend to be longer because of it. For your gear you’re only benefiting from your 4 armor pieces and 4 accessories so builds are more limited. In these fights, you’re often able to get 2 crits and sometimes 3 if you play well
Oh and if you like running 6 katana styles you need to enter into the dojo with 2 equipped, once you’re in the menu only gives you access to one of each weapon (except bayonet because its rifle and shotgun bullets)
This has made some of my sequential mirror fights a pain because I try to double up on weapons to flash attack between the same style
Actual combat is basically toned down real shit. You have access to your normal weapons, though they’re downtuned for base damage which means your bond transferred skills and set bonuses also apply. The base damage is higher compared to wooden weapons, on top of having more of your build available, leads to shorter, bloodier fights. If you use hard hitting big weapons sometimes a second crit is hard to come by because of the sheer DPS. Oh you also get your grapple hook! That can be a big deal if you’re running the Dragon set to make use of its grapple max ki damage
And now we get into some more details about MAs I’ve found work EXTREMELY well for dojo scoring, my MVP list
Remember the tech score includes critical hits and MA landing? Well there are some skills that do BOTH, so you get a double count on your score for using them. I highly recommend having one in your arsenal, and several veiled arts are included so there’s some flexibility
Now the downside of these arts is your Ki recovery is slower to start up after use compared to a regular triangle crit so be aware. Also the actual critical blow portion tends to come at the end of the move, so there’s a bit of lead time with it. The slower ones you’ll maybe consider using to actually be part of the final depletion process, but if you’re committed to a big combo that ends up fully depleting an enemy, there may not be enough time to do the entire art with the crit at the end, in those instances just take the regular crit
I apologize if the names are off, I’m doing this off memory at the moment
The number one art? Nozuchi Drop on Odachi (Mumyo). This is a triple threat. It’s a skill, it does a crit on a Ki depleted enemy, and on a panicked enemy it suplexes them. Plus it’s FAST and useful even if you’re not in a scenario to use the extra functions. Even when it takes the crit it’s a very fast and short animation which can save you precious time for your score. Plus the crit happens almost immediately so you run less of a risk of missing the crit compared to other moves. Works great in combos too because of its speed and as a standalone for the panic grab after deflecting attacks
Next I like Roaring Blade on Tennen Rishin Latana. It does a big ki pulse that can do a good deal of Ki damage and the downward slash can take the critical hit, good at the end of a combo when an enemy is near depletion.
Night raven(Mumyo) and Spring Storm (Jigen) on Katana. These are triple threats in a different way, and are especially useful in Mock Combat because they count as grapple attacks, so they can trigger the Dragon grapple ki without having your grapple! Oh and they also can take critical hits, so excellent choices all around
Twin Dragons (Mumyo) on paired swords. This is a GREAT art, it is fast, does a bunch of hits, does great Ki damage especially when blocked, and can take the crit
Bone Shatterer on bayonet. This is another solid one, does a great deal of Ki damage, does a BIG crit hit on Ki depleted, and overall just fun to use
Demon Bear on Greatswords. Decent, animation for the crit is a little long but you do start regenerating Ki sooner when you use it compared to others
There are others, every style (except unarmed) I think has at least one Veiled Art that can also crit but these are my favs
A couple non criticals worth mentioning
Autumn Current (Hokushin Itto) is a solid choice, does great damage, even better Ki damage (especially if they’re blocking) and you can run it as long as you have Ki. Be wary of overcommitting with it though, its easy to do
Shadow Double, a bit slow overall but can strip Ki very well. Gives you a somewhat long range option too. Not sure it’s worth using as a VA on another katana style but Gikei is a solid shinobi style so it’s there for you
Mugai-ryu Firecracker. Not a veiled art, has a tricky range, and a long recovery after using it. But it does a FUCK ton of Ki damage, if you use it after a violent gale so that you’re very close to an enemy that helps ensure it hits. I’m planning to experiment more with this one after I finish my mirror challenges
And if you haven’t checked out the write up on Panic, I’d recommend giving it a read, as learning to understand, plan, and manage panic is really the key to getting those low to no-hit high score runs
https://reddit.com/riseoftheronin/comments/1d5d23l/panic_is_maybe_the_most_important_mechanic_in/
That’s all I can think of at the moment, so get out there and start scoring some points!

2024.06.02 08:08 YumetoHikari Any advice/success stories for considering a career break at 28 to pursue my passion in Art/become SWE from Automotive engineering?

TL;DR: A 28-year-old engineer with 4 years of experience in the automotive industry in Japan is unhappy with his job and is considering a 6-12 month career break to transition into software engineering (SWE). Need advice regarding this career break.
I have a degree in mechanical engineering and have been working in automotive R&D in Japan for 4 years. During this time, I've held three different positions: project management, design/development, and testing. Unfortunately, none of these roles have been satisfying.
Although the pay is reasonable, the work environment is very slow and draining, especially when launching new products or services. I initially believed that working in this industry would allow me to make a significant impact and develop exciting projects. However, in reality, most products and services are developed by suppliers, with OEMs merely setting the requirements and occasionally handling testing and packaging.
I am considering taking a 6-12 month career break (I have enough savings to sustain myself for 1 year) to learn programming and transition into software engineering, specifically in application and game development. I plan to focus on learning C++ and Unreal Engine. I have some basic programming knowledge but have heard that the job market is currently unstable. Many people say that taking a career break can be seen as a red flag by future employers, especially since I have only 4 years of work experience.
At 28, I am very afraid of continuing to work in a job that I hate, which drains me both mentally and physically. I don't want to give up on pursuing what I truly want, whether it's in software engineering or art. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to study while working at my current job due to the lack of work-life balance.

2024.06.02 08:07 Accurate_Context3661 Rethinking my typing again

I’m overthinking this again. Perhaps my mental state is way too erratic, but now I suddenly am thinking I’ve been too inaccurate beforehand, so now I think my typing may be wrong (again). It’s not easy to be as truthful as I can. Honestly, my view of myself is very strange. I have always been very unsure. So I wonder if I’ll get the same or a possible different answer. I apologize if I wrote way too much here or got off topic to the question.
• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
I’m a minor (15), so perhaps accuracy could be affected by that. I’m a female. I think I’m very quiet and blend into the surroundings most of the time (and it’s not easy for me to be otherwise if I, for some reason, ever attempt to be that way). I either talk way too much, or talk too little. This is because if I don’t talk that means I really don’t know what to say, and when I end up wanting to say something it’s a lot of built up things. Also I think I end up adding random things to what I say for some reason. When I’m having a conversation, I usually spend most of the time while they’re talking thinking of how to properly respond, because I DO have an idea for what I want to say, I just don’t know how to formulate or back it up properly that quickly. For this reason, I realize I might miss out most of the details they’re saying, so I try to do both now. This is why I find texting much easier. From what I hear from others, perhaps I’m a little too reserved that it could be seen as rude. However, I myself think I talk just well enough. I’m actually somewhat hyper and energetic most of the time, but not verbally. This is because I think it would be too exhausting to express that in such ways. I think a lot about what some things mean. I’m unfortunately very quick to anger, especially if I believe someone is being way too idiotic or if I’m told I’m incorrect in how I think. Perhaps this may be normal to get annoyed about? But I know I get very irrationally angry about these. I don’t think anybody in real life would notice I have anger issues unless we’re close. I’m very neurotic. Actually, I’m going to mention that generalizing myself is difficult simply because it’s strangely difficult for myself to describe or identify my own traits. Also, it’s a bit difficult to not start explaining too much and focusing on small things (but I think I already did that).
• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
No diagnosis.
• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
Religious influence? Perhaps not strongly, although my family is Christian, they are not very strict on it nor have they forced it upon me. Actually, it was very interesting and I did believe in it at first, but due to my curiosity I think I ended up asking so many questions that eventually it somehow led me to stop believing in any sort of theistic way.
• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I don’t have any, but I want to answer this with what I used to aspire to be. Very early on, I really wanted to be a scientist and kept insisting to be, but then lost interest, I don’t remember why, but right now I’m thinking it’s because something about it is slightly terrifying. Very recently I wanted to become a writer because I think I was very passionate about stories in general, but I have realized how unsuccessful I might be if I chase for that with the amount of motivation and skill I have for it right now, so recently I’ve been thinking I’ll do something math-related, since I am good at it.
• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
Refreshing for most of the time, but I think I would get lonely a few times. This is assuming I have nothing else to do and can do what I want.
• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
I don’t really know what activities I prefer, maybe more of ones that are having to do with dexterity. I am TERRIBLE at sports, I am too wary during ball games (but this is because I’ve been hurt a lot playing with other people too many times). Badminton is the sport I am best at. I can play with quite average skill there. I actually enjoy it too, but I’m not sure how to explain why, perhaps due to liking the feeling of light movements (if that sounds correct). I like to walk, it helps me think when I imagine things. I don’t like walking if I have to do anything else with it, it’s much harder to focus.
• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I think I’m pretty curious. I’m not sure though. I have more ideas than I can execute ONLY BECAUSE I don’t have the required skills to execute those ideas. My curiosities are about whatever another person brings up, perhaps. Or I’m curious about people’s analysis. My ideas are very conceptual, I suppose. My ideas are more like creating a story, or combining two stories together. Or I take one small thing from a story I know of and imagine things focusing on that. I think I’m imagining too much about media I consume, but I don’t normally do otherwise.
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
I would enjoy it for the sake of a false sense of responsibility, either that or for the sake of trying something new that I’m not good at. However, I know I am not responsible enough to be good at it. As long as there is time for our team to do the task, I think I could possibly be able to do it. But I’m a terrible leader since I would end up being unable to think of anything. I would rather lead by being a participative leader, because that’s the only way I can lead properly.
• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
Perhaps I am coordinated, but I don’t understand this question at all. I may enjoy working with my hands. I don’t understand what this question means by “describe your activity”.
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
Perhaps I am artistic, I do draw sometimes, especially if I’m bored. My art is likely just drawing humans, and nothing unordinary, just normality, I don’t know why I prefer doing so. However if I was able to draw something that was quite surreal, then I would like to do that a few times. I just wouldn’t do it all the time because I don’t think I would have that many ideas.
• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
The past is just gone. You apparently can’t change the past, though it would be interesting if we could go to the past. But it’s not easy for me to think so much about the past voluntarily. Sometimes I do connect the past with the future, but it’s not because I actually think hard of it, it just happens. But usually if I think about the past too much, or actually try to think of the past, the first things I start focusing on are bad memories. I did mention in previous times that I answered this sort of question that I did not like the past, but of course as long as it’s not because I’m focused on one terrible thing that happened to me or one terrible thing I did, it’s not bad. The present is just a moment and then gone. So what? Also, we’re not really in the present, are we? I don’t even know what’s going to happen in my future, so I think I can only form an opinion on the idea. I mostly have a bit of an optimistic thought that it will go well since it always isn’t as bad as I think, but at the same time there’s a feeling of dread.
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
I don’t think I would react that strongly unless it is bothering me when I’m trying to do something and I’m focused on doing it. Otherwise I would try to help without feeling any bother, but I may wonder why they need my help even if it’s incredibly obvious why. If I decide to help them I’ll just do so because otherwise they’ll likely bother me with it. Either that or just because I can.
• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
I don’t think this is a good question, do some people really think they don’t need it? If there are such people, I wonder what their thought process is with that. Basically, why wouldn’t I?
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
I don’t think I’m efficient or have good productivity, but I do think I stress out over it. Low efficiency annoys me which is probably hypocritical. Although, I mostly do get annoyed about those when it comes to group work, because personally in those I would try my best to be efficient and productive.
• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
I don’t think I do, but I might have done it without noticing. I think I would likely do it if I had the incredible need to change the topic of the conversation. Otherwise I don’t think I would bother doing it, why should I care enough to control others, especially since that takes too much effort?
• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
I draw sometimes, to pass the time when I’m bored and to just picture things I want to picture. Also to show people. I just mostly like drawing to see the results. Strangely with painting it’s different, I just like the act of doing so, but I don’t really care about results, so it ends up very messy. I like to write sometimes but only because I get overwhelmed and end up wanting to write what has been stuck in my head for so long onto something. So I guess that’s a hobby, but it’s somewhat tiring so I don’t write for long periods of time. I do photography as a hobby, but I only picked it up because other people in my family I have noticed are incredibly terrible at taking photos, so out of annoyance I end up volunteering to do so. I end up liking it just because I like to look at how it looks on camera, I suppose. Especially with lights, because I recently noticed how it looks on photo.
• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
A few years ago I took a test for this kind of thing during secondary/middle school. I suppose it said auditory. Though that’s likely inaccurate now since I prefer reading the instructions and everything else, because it’s easier to figure out where to go from there and I can focus on it better. I don’t know what learning environment I struggle in most, though I do struggle slightly if I have to do exact memorization, but as long as I can attach it to something and I put effort in it perhaps it’s alright. I prefer classes with logic.
• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
I usually improvise but have a slight idea of what I’m doing. As in, I have a slight idea on the topic but I’d rather not be rigid on it because otherwise I would be focusing too much on one thing and likely miss something that would be good to add, rather than just having an idea then adding onto it if I thought of something. I’m not sure if that counts as winging it and improvisation though. I’m not good at strategizing but I can certainly try if I have a certain goal.
• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
Improve myself in general, because what else can I do? Just be successful and become someone that has a lot of capability. That first, then I perhaps could focus on something else. My reasoning is, I don’t improve myself first, how can I actually end up being able to do any other aspirations that I have?
• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
I fear the idea of losing thought of everything. Or losing all rationale. I don’t know what makes me uncomfortable. I hate it when I’m dragged into something when I made it clear I would rather not be, especially when they never even told me about it until a second before dragging me into it. I hate it when people bring up something, and when I finally decide to express my thoughts about it, they talk over me or interrupt me. Either that, or they just tell me to not think so much. This is incredibly annoying to me, but I suppose it would annoy anyone.
• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
I think I would be very calm and focused. I think I would feel very lucid.
• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
I think my lows would be feeling an incredible amount of dread. Or I would be very anxious and slightly more impulsive. Though, I think nobody would notice much in real life.
• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
I think I do pay attention sometimes but it’s inconsistent when I do or don’t. I pay attention if I have to. I like to daydream sometimes. I’m not sure if I pay attention more or daydream more. How would I be aware of my surroundings if I do daydream though? Obviously not.
• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
First of all, do I know why I'm there? If I don’t I would wonder about that. Also is it that I suddenly got there, or was I brought there? I think I wasn’t sure of any of these, especially why I’m there, then I would think I was kidnapped and just try to get out of that room. Ignoring all that, I would probably walk around a lot and think of the same things I always daydream about or imagine about. But wait, how long am I supposed to be staying there? Is there an obvious part of this room where I can just leave or is it basically just nothing? Really this is a bit too unspecific.
• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I usually try to think a lot before making an important decision, after all, there is always the chance my first idea could go wrong if I don’t think it over first. I usually doubt myself once I made that decision even though I thought it through a lot. I rarely end up regretting it and changing my mind though. However, I sometimes end up doing things on impulse either if I’m tired or for some reason I don’t even know. In which case I 100% change my mind.
• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
It takes a while. I do know how I feel towards certain things but it takes time to understand or explain why, otherwise it’s difficult to express. I usually process this myself. Emotions are important, I guess. Aren’t they motivators though? It’s the entire reason why I’m actually doing anything, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be.
• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
I end up doing this sometimes, just not directly saying I agree or not directly saying they are right, because most of the times I do this I do know I disagree, I just don’t have a coherent argument that is enough to be convincing, or one that is enough that my view seems rational, because most of the times I notice the other person would see the opposing viewpoint as incredibly irrational and stupid. I am working on not doing this though, because it’s likely better to make them think about it than doing nothing and keep them thinking something that they could change their mind on or I could change my mind on. Another reason why I’m working on this because I realize agreeing without actually agreeing would end up nagging me in the head.
• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
No, I don't break rules often. I’m either afraid of being punished, or because I see the rules are pretty rational and I understand them, even if I wouldn’t personally impose those rules myself. It’s not too difficult for me to try and adapt to those rules if different places have different rules. I do find myself re-checking the rules a lot though. I only don’t give any mind about rules if I really hate the community or place in which these rules have been imposed on. But if I hated it in the first place, why would I even be there? Anyways, challenged or not challenged, it’s not one or the other, it really depends on how the authority does things. Consider what they’re like first and what they do in their role then judge if they should be challenged or not challenged.

2024.06.02 08:06 GOONSKWAAAD Antis don't hate AI image generation actually, but they are fighting the wrong enemy.

I genuinely think image generation on itself isn't bad other than people being a bum themselves with it, which let's be real has already been happening without the introduction of AI.
Job losses? Forced to do soul-crushing labour like making SpongeBob plushies in a Chinese factory? That's not even the generator tool's fault. If anything that shows the corruption of corporations and companies.
Content oversaturation? Slop? Have you looked at most short form content creation? They're made "humanly" without any AI intervention. Antis and pro-AIs can agree are all mindless content.
The value of conventional art going down because of it being impossible to differentiate from AI-generation? Who cares! There's plenty of digital artists trying to mimick traditional pieces! However, you shouldn't lie either way though (especially in commissions). Whether or not you made something with AI, you should be upfront about it. Scamming and lying is a different topic by itself, is completely unrelated to AI.
Generating misinformation to defame people? Making nasty stuff of people? You don't even need AI to do that. That's a crime by itself already.
Nearly all arguments against image generation fears the gun and not the shooter. While I'm aware since AI's introduction, some flaws are more noticeable today; I wish antis would see more about the bigger picture.

You'd probably still drink beer and wine because it just tastes so damn good. Right?
If cannabis didn't get you high, you'd probably still be smoking because you're a connoisseur of all of the great flavors of smoke?
If sex didn't feel good and wasn't involved in procreation you'd probably still want to exchange fluids because that's th lmk e adult thought to do, right?
Are your behaviors reactions or responses?
What do you hold sacred?
What is holding you?
Looking back on your life,
Looking back on your choices, your acts your chasing.
Did you choose not to dig deeper?
because it's to complicated, frustrating, difficult, annoying, uncomfortable, scary, embarrassing, exhausting or hard?
You can only make the best decision with the knowledge you have.
Therefore with more knowledge your decisions will be better.
Pay mind to your thoughts, analyze before you speak. Be careful what words you say after you say I.

2024.06.02 08:04 DrownedInDogma My friend has become gross and insufferable.

So I’ve (M,31) known my friend (M,32) since elementary school. Thinking back on it, even as kids, he had somewhat of an insufferable attitude; but it was easier to ignore. We would just go back to playing video games or Yu-Gi-Oh! like we always did. And at the end of the day, everything would be fine. But now, as adults with lives and responsibilities, it just seems…harder.
And I feel bad because I know he’s just been through a lot. His mom passed just before Christmas of last year, and that was a devastating roller coaster of emotion for everyone. He was still living with her and she was his best friend. He told her everything, shared all his interests and hobbies with her, etc. And outside of the money he gave her from his job to cover half the expenses, she handled everything (he didn’t drive, never paid bills, and he’s now getting an intense crash course on stuff). Even earlier today, he mentioned how it was like screaming into the void now that she was gone; and so I’ve been sort of hesitant to call him out on some of his behavior as of late.
The first thing is him acting like “Of course we’re going to hang out if I call or text him about it.” No. I have my job that is stressing me out; especially after layoffs just happened, and I’m trying to step up even more to make sure I’m not next. I also take care of my father, who is sick in a nursing home and losing his balance and mobility. I got three calls last week saying that he’d fallen. I’m in a relationship, and my partner and I are already struggling to figure out the future so we can consider things like marriage and so forth, but neither one of us has enough money. I get dragged into so many things on my days off that I stress out cause I’m not at home as much as I want to be; safe, at peace, able to catch up on chores. I’m already doing weekly therapy cause of the stress.
When we do talk on the phone, he treats it like we’re a podcast or talk show, and I just need to stop what I’m doing to give him the next 30 minutes or an hour of my time. I’ve had to try and politely explain that I was occupied a few times. He’d call me at work and I’d quickly text him back that I couldn’t talk. And on top of that, the conversation always stems back to what edibles he’s trying lately. He’s been going online and buying up every CBD/THC/Shroom gummy he can find. He once asked me to stay on the phone with him for 30 minutes so I can observe the side effects of a gummy with him, and I told him I was busy. He tried again and asked for 10 minutes and I caved.
And when we hang out in person…he just does some stuff I seriously have questions about. Several times, I’ve seen him reach down and scratch his nuts while sitting next to me; sometimes he’s just sitting there and holding them. I get it: we’re guys, so whatever, right? But it never fails that he sniffs his hand after. He’s always in shorts and reaches through the leg to scratch, but he always straight up sniffs his fingers after. And he does this SO MANY times, and each time I pretend not to notice, cause I know he’ll just deny it if I call him out. It’s weird when there’s food involved. He’s started treating me like I’m a lackey and he’s the brains, and will more or less ramble off commands like to grab him a drink or a snack when he’s over at my apartment. And he acts like he needs to dictate how the time is spent, and always asks me to watch some creepy pasta type stuff. He’s more or less tried to declare when he wants to leave (usually midnight, which is a fuck no cause I wake up at 4am for work), and will try to get me watch hours long videos on murder mysteries, photos taken before tragedies, reviews over gory movies, etc. Today I just about snapped at him when he asked if we could watch a video over disturbing 911 calls; he’d just nagged me to watch a video about a lady finding dead children in an 18 wheeler in Mexico. And when I suggest we watch an anime or play a game or something, he acts like it’s a hassle to fit it into the schedule. Tonight, he was so excited to show me a video about a South Korean couple in the 80’s that got kidnapped and forced to direct movies in North Korea, and I was mentally begging for his Uber to come get him. And he can’t just shut up and let it play. He HAS to talk and show off how he’s some sort of YouTube rabbit hole savant. He acts like I just NEED to hear how well researched and well read he is about whatever video. We watched the Netflix One Piece, and it was just him listing every difference between the show and source material, or talking to the TV and characters, acting like he needed to coach the Straw Hat Pirates about the fights, and this was my first time seeing it. This was his 2nd or 3rd time (then later, he just outright said “We’re going to start watching the anime together. We’re going to watch it every time we meet up, and it’ll be 10 episodes each time.” Not, “Do you want to watch One Piece?” Just that we WERE, no input from me at all, just a damn command). This happens EVERY time we watch something. If he makes a mistake when saying something, he’ll get snippy if I correct him, and he acts like there was no mistake and he said it flawlessly. And then there’s the porn. Every time, he shows me his art he drew for his comic he wants to make and it’s really just an excuse to look up porn. Nothing but nude drawings in risqué poses. I’ve seen him scrolling through his tablet, and it’s nothing but porn images he’s saved. I glanced and saw him straight up looking at a hentai butthole shot while we watched some weird video he wanted to show me. And there are so many other things…
I know he’s hurting. His mom was his only parent, since he never knew his dad who abandoned him. I still have my parents, so I can only imagine. But his behavior is getting to be a bit too much. And I don’t know how to gently tell him he’s being a major dick. I don’t know if I’m just suddenly a punching bag now (he lives with his aunts and cousins, and they were all raised old school, no nonsense, “no, we don’t need no damn phone to turn off the lights, get your ass up and do it yourself” type, so I KNOW they wouldn’t let that shit behavior fly there), but it’s gotta stop.

2024.06.02 08:01 Fit-Chair2792 Information on the dolls used to symbolize the participants in the Decision game!

Copy and pasted from what I sent in a discord server on the topic.
ZTD and possibly 999 Spoilers ahead
Carlos (Action Figure)- a type of doll that is meant to be posed at all main joints (head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, sometimes the waist) and be able to hold the pose, doesn't have any interchangeable parts and typically depicts more masculine figures (commonly superheros and other rigid designs such as mech suits are used as a basis as skin tight suits and armor are easier to model around posable joints than loose clothing)
Akane (Nendoroid)- Nendoroids are a type of collectable figure produced by Good Smile that are smaller than a standard figure often depicting characters in a "chibi" style. Most models also come with multiple replaceable parts including face plates for different poses and expressions. Good Smile did also release a general accessories pack to add extra little pieces to put on the Nendoroids which does include different color cat ears
Junpei (Voodoo Doll) - I'm sure most people already know what this is, I haven't done a lot of research on voodoo dolls or the cultures that may have used them so I don't want to say anything incorrect so imma say Google it in your own time if you wanna go in depth. This being used for Junpei is more than definitely a reference to the "For you" June doll in 999
Sean (Matryoshka)- also called a variety of names including Russian Nesting dolls, stacking dolls, and tea dolls. They were created with the intention of helping kids learn to count. Symbolically is used to represent a number of things including fertility, continuation of life, and less often; someone who is "two-faced" or has secrets.
Mira (dress up doll)- the image used in game most closely resembles a Bratz doll. Dress up dolls usually also have posable joints but the range of points of articulation varies greatly between specific models. The different outfits you can buy with them can be made from cloth and closed with velcro or be made from rubber with an open seam to slip on and off. Definitely made to be played with in a ton of scenarios that kids may come up with
Eric (baby doll)- this one doesn't require much explanation. Baby dolls were initially designed in the 1800s with ceramic heads and limbs attached to stuffed cloth torsos to be a part of "imaginative play" to give kids a more cuddly doll to use as a pretend baby instead of other common dolls that were completely made from hard material with no articulation. Modern baby dolls use soft plastic or rubber as an alternative to ceramic but still represents a baby to be taken care of. Not to be confused with "Reborn dolls" that are highly intricate pieces of art designed to look exactly like newborn babies.
Diana (Porcelain Doll)- Porcelain, while being a type of ceramic, is made from higher grade clays and fired at much hotter temperatures than normal ceramics. Dolls made from porcelain are made to be display pieces and not played with in the way a dress up doll or a baby doll would be. Antique porcelain dolls can sell for upwards of thousands of dollars (Diana's doll in mentioned to be made of bisque porcelain, which is what the most expensive porcelain doll, made in 1916 and sold for $300,000, was made of) and are rare due to porcelain being extremely susceptible to significant damage from minor trauma. They are the most used example of "Creepy dolls" used in media due to their glass eyes and typically blank expression.
Phi (Posable Paper doll)- most popular from the 1930s-1950s due to paper being a cheap and accessible resource during the depression era and world war 2. They were easy to mass produce using a printing press and were often found in old newspapers. Theyre used mostly nowadays as the easiest diy dress up doll as all you need is to just draw and cut out the clothes on another piece of paper and place it on top. For this reason they are also popular for fashion designers to work out how they want something to look like on a person (example: how long a skirt on a dress should be). Also used as puppets occasionally for indie animation due to their ease of use, small storage space required, and again, price. As mentioned by someone else, very very flammable.
Sigma (Nutcracker)- a number of jokes could be made here but I will refrain. Typically associated with the Christmas season and can be used to open nuts with harder shells but using their jaws. Original german Nutcrackers were designed off of people of power to give the common folk enjoyment of the idea of making the powerful work for them by "making them crack their 'hard nuts of life.'" Nutcrackers did not become associated with the Christmas season until they were used in the ballet "The Nutcracker" that opened the week before Christmas in 1892 and became massively popular in the 1940s when it started to be performed outside Russia. Nutcrackers are also used to represent good luck and frightening away evil spirits.
Zero II's doll found on a piece of paper in the Pod room looks to basically be a cloth or rag doll which can be used to symbolize a limp person who is unable to do anything (example: being paralyzed or in a vegetative state) which could be a little itty bitty hind sight nod to Delta spending all of Dcom and the decision game in the wheelchair believed to be incommunicable with before being outed as Zero II.

Share your Lather Games shave of the day!

Today's Theme: Ahoy, Lather Games!

Product must be a Bay Rum, Old Spice or Old Spice dupe, or something with nautically-themed branding / marketing.
Note: this means the soap brand or soap concept must be nautically themed in some way. It does not mean "scent must be from the Aquatic fragrance family."

Today's Challenge: Paleontology Day

Priusaurus won last year. Honour him in some way in your shave.

Sponsor Spotlight

Noble Otter Soap Co.
Established in 2017, Noble Otter started off as a team of two with one goal in mind; to make men's grooming products the way they should be. Noble Otter started many years ago in their own home making bath soaps that they felt were better than what was available on the market. One year for Christmas, Cody got a wetshaving starters kit from his wife and fell in love with wetshaving. Cody loved the nostalgia, the quality of the shave, and of course the many different scents. Of course, as a hobbyist soapmaker Cody decided to start making his own. And after many test batches and feedback from numerous people, Cody decided it was time to start his own small business. So why Noble Otter? When they started thinking of a name for our business, they wanted to be different and unique. They started with the idea of telling the story of their scents through art and olfactory experience. Each scent has a unique otter that helps you picture what the experience might be like while using one of our products. It's fun, unique, and engaging at the same time. All Noble Otter soaps and splashes are handmade in Houston, Texas.

Tomorrow's Theme: Where's the Beef?

Product must contain a non-beef tallow - e.g., sheep, bison, deer, duck, bear, cat, etc. Caveat: we acknowledge that there are usually a few vegan players who object to being required to use a non-vegan product to be on-theme; therefore, players may use a vegan soap for today's theme, provided that all the other software and hardware they use this month is also vegan.

Tomorrow's Challenge: OnionMiOsma Day

If you have Osma, use it. If you have some other alum, use it and tell us how much you wish it was Osma. If you don't have any alum, tell us why you don't put salt on your skin after you shave.

🔗Alaïa Black Oval Full Rim Sunglasses with Grey Lenses

https://preview.redd.it/d145lfdql34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a64ab86ba71f057e152c59e8e6534c7135e96a5c
As someone who loves a good pair of sunglasses, especially when they come with the allure of Azzedine Alaïa's designs, I was intrigued by the Alaïa Black Round Sunglasses. Featuring a stunning shiny black acetate-metal frame and solid grey lenses, these sunglasses were a unique combination of vintage and modern styles that fit perfectly with my summer wardrobe.
What stood out to me the most was the brand's signature timeless legacy, which was showcased through the delicate sculptural shapes and edgy cuts. The acetate material was smooth but sturdy, perfectly complementing the lenses' high-quality UV protection. Additionally, the sunglasses were versatile as they fitted both indoor and outdoor activities, and their progressive lenses made adjusting to different light conditions a breeze.
Despite the stunning design, there were a few drawbacks. The sunglasses are slightly heavier than some of my other pairs, which might be an issue for those with sensitive noses. However, this didn't detract too much from the overall experience, especially considering the brand's rich history in creating couture-inspired eyewear.
All in all, I found my experience with the Alaïa Black Sunglasses to be an exciting blend of luxury and practicality. With the brand's signature style, they stand out as a unique addition to anyone's sunglasses collection, and I will definitely be recommending them to friends and family.

🔗Stylish Aaliyah Sunglasses with Polarized Lenses

https://preview.redd.it/b8kaywlql34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=073cfbb48d2f913a05a4de4bd9e72fe03b19e315
Take a walk on the chic side with these Aaliyah sunglasses. As a daily eyewear wearer, I've been blown away by the comfort and durability these Polarized beauties bring to the table. Adjustable nosepads ensure a secure and cozy fit, while high-quality metal arms and stainless steel hinges add to the sturdiness.
Not only do the lenses protect against 100% UVA/UVB and harmful blue light, but their scratch-resistant feature has me confident in their longevity. A splash of peach tortoise and black adds a pop of fun to any outfit. The multi-layer TAC Polarized lenses promise crystal-clear vision, and the full-rim, cat-eye frame shape is both stylish and practical.
The only thing better than these sunglasses is the warm feeling of sun on my skin! .

🔗Shiny Transparent Pink Sunglasses by Azzedine Alaïa AA0055S 003

https://preview.redd.it/8cub826rl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16e4ef17386fcc3982908a5487058f5b398eac5a
I've been sporting these Aazzedine Alaïa sunglasses (AA0055S 003) for a few weeks now, and I must say, they are a stylish addition to my look. Their pink frames with a transparent finish catch everyone's attention, and the solid ink blue lenses complement the overall chic style. The Cat Eye frame shape adds a unique touch to this full-rim design.
The sunglasses come with a Bridge length of 23 mm, and the Lens height is 44.30 mm, providing the perfect fit. Their Diagonal of 50 is ideal for a more comfortable wear. While they are made with Acetate, they still feel lightweight and comfortable.
However, one downside I did notice was that the pink frame is a bit more of a highlighter shade than expected, which might be overpowering for some outfit combinations. Nonetheless, the blue lenses make up for it and provide a stylish contrast. Overall, I would recommend these sunglasses to those who enjoy a bold yet feminine design.

🔗Aaliyah Transparent Light Orange Sunglasses with Petal Studs

https://preview.redd.it/zbgdipbrl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c72cc920891ca62e3fc732ce2d0dab9739695b3e
These orange Aaliyah sunglasses have been a staple in my everyday life lately, providing both style and functionality. I've found the soft squared shape to be incredibly comfortable, making it easy to wear daily. The Pètal studs on the frame add a unique and distinctive signature to the design.
One of my favorite features is the beveled acetate — it not only adds a bold and voluminous touch to the frame, but it also ensures that the sunglasses remain comfortable even after extended wear. And let's not forget the Category 3 UV protection, which keeps my eyes safe from the sun. The solid brown lenses not only look great, but they also provide excellent clarity, making these sunglasses suitable for progressive prescription wear too.
However, there have been some minor issues with these sunglasses – the transparent light orange frame may not be the best choice for those seeking a more opaque color. Additionally, the silver Pètal studs can sometimes catch on fabric or other surfaces, so be cautious when wearing them. Nonetheless, the overall experience with these Aaliyah sunglasses has been quite enjoyable.

🔗Sophisticated Acetate Aazzedine Alaia Gradient Sunglasses

https://preview.redd.it/xxb9hzrrl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01f26c6bae23ce2ab1144668f5daf744f914d107
When I first tried on the Azzedine Alaïa AA0062S 001 Black Grey Sunglasses, I was immediately drawn to their oversized, edgy square shape. The modern and contemporary look they provided really stood out to me. The micro studs embellishments added a touch of elegance, with their striking precision in decorating the spoiler and temples.
While trying them on, I noticed the beveled acetate, which offered great volume and boldness, without compromising the comfort. I appreciated the option for progressive lenses, which ensured a clear and seamless vision. The dark gradient lenses not only looked stylish but also provided excellent UV protection with Category 3.
However, I did find that the sunglasses were slightly more expensive than similar products on the market. I had to consider the quality and unique design before making the purchase. Overall, I'm happy with my decision, as these sunglasses have been both comfortable and stylish while providing the necessary protection against UV rays.

🔗Aazzedine Alaia AA0059S 002 White Grey Sunglasses - Modern Rimless Frames with Grey Lenses

https://preview.redd.it/mnypyk9sl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98e4ed15fdf65bdaee53e45149c5ba46a8731d88
I recently had the pleasure of trying out the Azzedine Alaïa AA0059S 002 White Grey sunglasses. These shades are the epitome of sophistication and style, blending a timeless aesthetic with modern elegance. The shiny solid ivory acetate frame and solid grey lenses provide both visual appeal and exceptional UV protection.
The meticulous craftsmanship of Azzedine Alaïa really shines through in these sunglasses, as the sculptural approach and couture-inspired embellishments exude a sensuality that's difficult to ignore. I found the smooth acetates and edgy cuts to be quite unique and eye-catching, making these shades stand out in a crowd.
However, it's important to note that these sunglasses are not suitable for all face shapes, as they are designed to flatter heart, oval, round, and square faces. Additionally, the full-rim frame style might not be the most comfortable for everyone.
Overall, the Azzedine Alaïa AA0059S 002 White Grey sunglasses are a beautiful and stylish accessory that perfectly captures Aaliyah's timeless legacy. They're definitely worth a try for those who appreciate both fashion and functional design.

🔗Stylish Black Oversized Round Sunglasses by Azzedine Alaïa

I've been rocking these Azzedine Alaïa sunglasses for a while now, and let me tell you, they're a game-changer. The oversized round frames are not only stylish but also great at shielding my eyes from the sun. And speaking of sun, these bad boys come with 100% UV protection, so you don't have to worry about those pesky rays.
The case and cleaning cloth that come with the package are a nice touch, too. They keep your glasses safe and clean when you're not wearing them. The only downside? They can be a bit heavy on the nose, but I guess that's the price you pay for style and protection. All in all, these Aaliyah sunglasses are a fantastic addition to any wardrobe.

🔗Azzedine Alaïa AA0034S Sunglasses - UV Protection, Grey Lenses

https://preview.redd.it/a2e2qw4tl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c816e5508685ede16e8bf135a6056e572125709
I've had the pleasure of wearing these Azzedine Alaïa AA0034S sunglasses, and let me tell you, they're a real treat. The shiny black frame and solid grey lens make for a sleek and chic look, perfect for my everyday style. One of the standout features is the 100% UV protection, keeping my eyes shielded from the sun's harsh rays. The tinted lenses are a welcome addition, making them even more practical for outdoor activities.
I also appreciate the option to replace the lenses, adding an extra layer of convenience. The cloth and case included are a thoughtful touch, ensuring my sunglasses stay in pristine condition. Made in Italy, these glasses exude a refined and sophisticated quality, perfectly embodying the Azzedine Alaïa brand. All in all, I'm thoroughly impressed with these sunglasses and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a stylish and functional pair.

As someone who recently tried on the Azzedine Alaïa AA0058S 003 53 - Red Sunglasses, I must admit, they left quite the impression. The sleek oval frame shape, combined with the studded accents at the temple, gave them a chic, sophisticated vibe. However, the size might be a bit too large for those with smaller faces, although they're comfortable once you find the right fit.
What really stood out was the 100% UV protection and solid lenses, which kept my eyes safe from harmful rays and the glare. As a bonus, the case and cleaning cloth included ensure easy care and storage. This designer piece brings elegance and functionality together in one pair of sunglasses.

🔗Luxury Grey Azzedine Alaïa AA0065S Sunglasses

https://preview.redd.it/agmp70ttl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0da58f780a14f71cfd8b0aa0ec87679f440e16c0
I recently had the chance to try on a pair of Azzedine Alaïa AA0065S 001 Grey Sunglasses, and let me tell you, the experience was a mix of elegance and comfort. The shining light grey frame, combined with the shiny silver studs, gave a sophisticated yet edgy look, making it perfect for a day out or a night on the town. The recycled acetate frame felt smooth and sturdy in my hands, and the gradient grey lenses provided excellent UV protection and a clear view of my surroundings.
However, I also noticed a slightly more minor issue: the shape was a bit square for my face, and I had to adjust the fit several times to find one that suited me best. Nevertheless, the sunglasses' craftsmanship, modern aesthetic, and feminine vibe made it a worthwhile addition to my collection.
In conclusion, these Azzedine Alaïa sunglasses embody the perfect blend of luxury and practicality, making them a standout choice for any fashion-forward individual.

Last week, I decided to give the Azzedine Alaïa AA0067S 001 Silver Grey Sunglasses a shot. These stylish sunglasses feature a shiny silver metal frame and black leather cover-bridge with a petal cut-out design. The gradient grey lenses provide excellent clarity, making them a perfect addition to my daily wardrobe. On a brisk afternoon, I paired them with a sundress and strappy heels, feeling both chic and comfortable in my new accessory.
The frame is a full rim style, which I appreciated for the added durability and snug fit. The aviator shape and 62-11-140 size were ideal for my head, but the sunglasses may not be the best fit for those with larger or smaller heads. One of the standout features of the sunglasses was the meticulous craftsmanship, showcasing Alaïa's renowned timeless legacy. The smooth acetates and couture-inspired embellishments truly make these sunglasses a work of art.
While I can't deny the quality and sophistication of these sunglasses, I must admit that the AA0067S 001 Silver Grey Sunglasses do come with a slightly higher price tag. This may deter some potential buyers, who would be better suited for a more budget-friendly option. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed wearing these sunglasses, and their stylish yet timeless design has certainly earned a place in my collection.

I recently tried the Alaïa Women's Alaia 61mm Round Sunglasses in the Ruthenium color, and I must say, they are a true fashion statement. The round lenses, combined with the dotted pattern detail, give off an air of sophistication and elegance. One of the standout features is the lightweight nature of the sunglasses, which made them comfortable and hassle-free to wear throughout the day.

The Pètal, an iconic code, added a unique and distinctive signature to these sunglasses. I appreciate the four silver petal studs carefully applied on the front. Beveled acetate provided volume and boldness without compromising comfort.
While I enjoyed the stylish features of these sunglasses, I did notice that they didn't have any mirrored or polarized lenses, which might be a downside for some users under bright sunlight or driving conditions. What stood out to me, though, is the solid brown lens that filters out 100% of harmful UV rays, protecting my eyes from the sun's harsh glare.
The sunglasses feature a square full rim shape that fits comfortably on my face, while also making a statement about my style. The Azzedine Alaïa brand is known for its originality and quality, and these sunglasses definitely carry that reputation forward.

The oversized frame adds a touch of elegance, while the solid lenses offer great 100% UV protection. Buyer's Guide

Welcome to our Aaliyah Sunglasses Buyer's Guide! Here, we will discuss important features to consider, general advice, and helpful tips when choosing your perfect pair of Aaliyah Sunglasses. Whether you're a fan of the late artist or simply appreciate her style, these sunglasses offer a unique blend of fashion and function.

1. Style and Design

Aaliyah was known for her edgy and chic style, so it's important to choose sunglasses that reflect this. Some popular designs include the Aaliyah Duckboot Sunglasses and the Aaliyah Butterfly Sunglasses. The style and design of the sunglasses will also play a role in how well they fit your face shape and complement your features. Consider factors like frame shape, lens shape, and color when making your selection.

2. Fit and Comfort

Aaliyah Sunglasses should not only look great but also feel comfortable on your face. Narrow frames, for example, may not be comfortable for those with wide faces, while wider frames could be too bulky for narrow faces. Pay attention to the materials used in the sunglasses, as well, as some may be more breathable and lightweight than others. In general, well-fitted sunglasses should not slide or pinch when worn.

3. UV Protection

Sunglasses must offer adequate UV protection to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Look for sunglasses that have a UV rating of at least 400, which covers the full spectrum of UV rays. This will help maintain eye health and prevent age-related eye damage such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

4. Polarization

Polarized lenses can be a great feature for those who spend time outdoors or in environments with glare. These lenses reduce glare and reflective light, improving your comfort and safety. They can also enhance visual clarity and make it easier to see in bright sunlight or around water.

https://preview.redd.it/bopv0nwxl34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c37a0f09393bd6c6968c4b0162c65d6ceb7a81b4

5. Frame Material

Aaliyah Sunglasses come in a variety of materials, including plastic, metal, and acetate. Each has its pros and cons. Plastic frames are typically lightweight and affordable, but some may not be as durable as metal frames. Metal frames offer a more sophisticated look but can be heavier and more expensive. Acetate frames are known for their durability and elegant appearance but can be heavier and more expensive as well.

6. Lens Options

Different lenses offer varied benefits depending on your needs. For example, sunglasses with mirrored or gradient lenses can help reduce glare and protect your eyes from additional light during outdoor activities. Polarized lenses are ideal for driving or sports, as they reduce glare and provide better contrast. Transition lenses change automatically from clear indoors to dark outdoors, offering a convenient option for those who prefer not to switch between multiple pairs of sunglasses.

7. Accessories and Maintenance

To ensure your Aaliyah Sunglasses stay in optimal condition, consider purchasing a protective case and cleaning cloth. These accessories will protect the sunglasses from damage and maintain their appearance over time. In terms of maintenance, clean your sunglasses regularly using a gentle solution designed for eyewear. Avoid using abrasive materials or cleaning solutions that may cause damage.

8. Budget and Shopping Considerations

While Aaliyah Sunglasses can be purchased at various price points, it's essential to consider the balance between quality, style, and cost. Higher-priced sunglasses generally offer better materials, construction, and features, although this may not always be the case. Be sure to read customer reviews and compare different options to ensure you're making an informed decision. You may also consider purchasing from authorized retailers to ensure authenticity.

9. Customer Support and Policies

Before making a purchase, be sure to review the retailer's customer support policies and return or exchange options. A reliable retailer should offer straightforward and helpful policies that put the customer's needs first.

2024.06.02 07:57 tiredturtle231 Using art to process trauma, is it helpful or am I simply retraumatizing myself?

Over the past year I have been diagnosed with complex PTSD and working on my mental health related to that. I am also an artist and an animator and find a lot of inspiration from my experiences, and find myself drawn to exploring those moment through art making. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into whether making art that is inspired by the darkest moments of your life is a net good or a net bad.
From my perspective I believe it's good in moderation, like if I need to paint something in a moment it can really help process an event. Animation takes longer than a moment though and can take months or even years to complete. I am at a crossroads where I am considering using a monologue I wrote during a dissociative episode and animating it. I believe it really eloquently captures the feeling of being out-of-body and the existentialism I felt at that time. However, I fear that having to animate an experience like that and having to work on it, thinking of how to capture that moment and analyzing it may cause more pain than it's worth.
I'm curious to know if anyone has any insight into this or any advice on this. I believe that a lot of the art I have made that has sprung from moments like these have been beautiful and thought provoking pieces but I am concerned this may be going too far because of how long it will take to complete.

2024.06.02 07:55 mishpye AITA for refusing to pay for my sister’s boyfriend’s travel money to visit her?

I (20F) study full time and work part-time. This month, for the first time in a long time, I made a decent income and managed to spend quite a bit to help my mom out financially. She's a single mom and works on a commission-based income, and has two dependants (myself and my sister who's 17) so things are a bit tough sometimes. I didn't think twice about spending this money to help my mom out because she works her a** off for us. My sister recently started dating a guy (let's call him Ed) who lives about 2hrs away from us. Ed is four years older than my sister, pays his own rent and works a full time job as a wine sommelier. I heavily dislike this man for multiple reasons and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that I disprove of their relationship. Ed acts like a typical 22 year old man-child. He's always boasting about all this money he makes, he buys stuff for my sister all the time and he's recently just gone on a tangent about the new bachelor pad he moved into. Fast forward to this week, he crashed his motorbike and now he's stuck because he put in leave at work to come visit my sister for a couple days (he'd be staying with us for those few days) but he cant't drive himself here. Besides for the obvious red flags (if you're making all that money, why don't you have insurance??), he asked my sister to ask me to pay for his Uber from the place where his friend will drop him off in our city to our house (22km apart). He claims that because of the move to his new digs, he doesn't have the money to pay for his own Uber. I was astounded that my sister would even consider asking this of me. But I fell on my back when I heard that she went on to ask my mom to DRIVE him BACK to the town he lives in over the weekend. My sister's been through a lot and technically speaking, she's still a child so her judgement is far from sound. Basically, all I'm wondering is AITA for saying no to paying for his Uber to our house and reinforcing that it's not my mom's job to cart him back home, two hours away?

2024.06.02 07:52 Zealousideal-Week-91 Lightbringer Of Destiny

Lightbringer Of Destiny
I have recently been wondering why AE never made a version of the Ashbringer from W.O.W. We have about 3 versions of Frostmourne in game but not the iconic Ashbringer. I thought why dont i make one. So i give you... The Lightbringer Of Destiny, lol.
FRONT
TOP
BRIGHTER
So i did this in 3D because i don't know anything about adobe animate, but i do know how to use Solid works and other CAD programs. Maybe someone can take inspiration and make one using AQW art style.
To make this i took elements from Ashbringer and parts of the BLoD. Since Ashbringers blade is its main part i took that as my base to work on. The handle is from the BLoD axe. The guard is based off the markings on most BloD items or paladin gear. I did that because if anyone doesn't know, Ashbringers L shaped guard is to represent Lordaeron, the kingdom that it defends against the undead scourge from wrath of the lich king. Also if anyone wonders why i didn't make it all gold, it came out kinda ugly and the color shades i cant really match right.
I hope someone appreciates the idea here o/

2024.06.02 07:51 BlitheCynic Significance of Art History to [Character's] Story Line

So I just finally finished LF a few days ago (after rotting on the library waitlist for months!), and I was really pleasantly surprised by the way Tanaka was written. Now part of that is just that I'm a big sucker - as both a reader and a writer - for taking apart characters who are irredeemable bastards and seeing what makes them tick. I was really curious to see other fans' takes on her, and it looks like she was pretty polarizing as a POV characters - some of you guys, like me, really loved to hate her (and maybe even dip a tentative toe into feeling sorry for her), and some of you just plain hated her (and that's fine - some people prefer being able to like their POV characters. I'm not one of those people). However, I haven't seen anyone really say much about the significance of her interest in (love of, really) art and art history. So I wanna talk a little about that.
The takes I've seen have largely come down to either, "It didn't fit with her character and felt really random," which I'm about to disagree with HARD, or "It served as a device to show that there was more to her that meets the eye, and that she could have gone down a completely different path." This one, I agree with, but I also think there's a lot more to it.
(1) So let's talk about why art history specifically. Why not something else seemingly 180 degrees away from being a Marine, like gardening or culinary science? As an artist who takes myself unapologetically seriously, I have had a lot of conversations with an artist friend of mine lately about the intimacy of art. Art is both an expression of individuality and a vehicle of profound, often terrifying, connection. The former is what Tanaka regards as the core of her being, while the latter is anathema to her. She is drawn to art precisely because it exists in a space of tension between her comfort zone and her deepest fears. It is the razor edge that she loves to walk.
I've said before that I think of art as a form of telepathy - you are trying to capture something inside your own mind and externalize it in a way that it is transmitted into the mind of another person. When Tanaka begins experiencing this very literally in a manner she can't control, it's her worst nightmare. But she loves art because it is a version of this that she can control. It's an outlet for her to fulfill the fundamentally human need for connection when it's never been safe (both literally and psychologically) for her to do so through any other means. She learned that as a child when she sought a hug and got a slap in the face instead.
A number of the art pieces she contemplates are emotionally intense. The Third Miko in particularly is memorable because it is a heavy piece, full of vulnerability and grief and dread. These are the kinds of pieces that not only did the artist have to rip themselves open and pour their soul into in order to produce, but the audience is required to do the same to some extent in order to fully experience them. Turning soul-crushing sadness into usable rage isn't alchemy - it's more like a refinement process; it takes a lot of energy, and there is a lot of waste runoff that still has to go somewhere. For Tanaka, that's where it goes. That's the safe place to put it. Inside of someone else's pain, where no one will ever know it's yours.
(2) The other thing I wanted to talk about hinges on a "blink and you miss it" detail that, for me at least, completely reframed the whole picture regarding the "two roads diverged" aspect of Tanaka's life, and that's the casually dropped revelation that she never actually had a choice in the first place. The way this was written, I'm absolutely certain it was a very deliberate choice by JSAC to undermine the assumptions we as readers had been previously led to make.
The "two roads" framing comes up explicitly three times in the book. The first time is in Chapter 24: "Tanaka hadn’t thought about that painting in decades, or about what a very different life she would have lived if she’d made a few different decisions at the start." The next mention is in Chapter 31, when Dr. Ahmadi is reviewing Tanaka's file. She says, "You refused an advanced scholarship in order to enlist." Both of these references frame it very explicitly as a choice. But then, a few pages later, it's revealed that it actually wasn't: "If Aunt Akari had let her study art history instead of enlisting in active service, where would she be right now? And who would be tracking down the high consul? What else—how many thousands of other things—would be different?" (emphasis mine).
This detail and the way it was just slipped in there actually made me feel terribly sad for her because it reveals that this was, in fact, never where she wanted to be at all. This is more a matter of interpretation, but my takeaway was that the whole thing about her preferring a repressive society might be less the truth and more of a narrative she tells herself because she has spent her entire life deprived of any kind of real agency. It's true that someone who has never experienced life outside a pressure cooker environment might rapidly decompress like a blobfish upon being removed from it (I'm reminded of the memoir The Girl With Seven Names, where the author's mother and brother can't adapt to life outside of North Korea and want to go back), but that's less about being naturally well-suited to it and more about being deeply and maybe irreversibly maladapted.
When Tanaka tells herself she loves life under the boot because it gives her something to push back against, she's making the best of a bad situation by pretending her lack of agency is actually just a really sophisticated form of agency. It's because the only love she has ever known is the threat of consequences, with the only realistic alternative being complete apathy. It's the same mentality that makes abuse victims blame themselves - because, in some ways, the version of events where you were totally helpless and at the mercy of other people and a cold, uncaring universe is more distressing than the version where you brought it upon yourself through your own choices and actions. Wanting (and presumably asking her aunt's permission) to study art history, only to be forced to enlist in the marines instead is just another variation of her reaching for a hug and getting a slap. But if someone cares enough to slap you in the face, at least that means they care, right? "Laconia would put two in the back of my head because they care about what I think and do" is still a nicer story than "Laconia would put two in the back of my head because I'm nobody and nothing and completely disposable to them." It also made me wonder what was meant earlier by "if she’d made a few different decisions at the start." What does she tell herself she could have done differently to change a fate that was never in her hands to begin with?
TL;DR Tanaka loves art because it's the only way she can safely experience human connection, and it's implied she actually would have chosen to study art history if her aunt hadn't forced her to enlist.

2024.06.02 07:48 Substantial_Towel980 How many of you would date Someone with no future

So I’ve been struggling with how to really word this question, but I guess my thought process is, how hard/ how long would/is it for a girl with nothing be to get into a relationship. Like if ur in your late 20s as a female, make less than 20k a year, still live with your parents, have no ambitions or plans for the future, are extremely religious but also gay????? And aren’t attractive in any traditional sense. (Looks)
So I know this girl (let’s call her Linda) who dated another girl (let’s call her Maddie). Linda 20F, Maddie 29F. They dated for two years, most of which was online. They met in person while Maddie was on vacation in Linda’s home town and got together shortly after. But it turned into long distance since Maddie lived on the other side of the country. Maddie is an artist who makes Pennies off commissions and Linda is a college student working on getting her degree. Maddie doesn’t plan on doing much more with her art career except maybe some contract work here and there but nothing that’ll make her enough to live on her own. The relationship ended because of the biggest issue being distance, but that distance would never be closed considering Linda is too busy with schooling, and Maddie doesn’t make any money with her job and doesn’t plan on doing anything that actually pays.
Basically, I just don’t understand why anyone would get into a relationship with someone who is at an age where they should have their shit together, but someone such as Maddie has nothing going for them and yet they think they’re ready for a relationship.

2024.06.02 07:45 ApocalypseMoon23 AITAH for being upset with my alcoholic mother stealing my beer?

For context, I'm 26 but still live at home. Not by choice. My circumstances do not allow me to move out on my own. Pay isn't good enough, nobody to split the rent with, high cost of living in my country, etc....
My mother has been drinking every single night since some point in the year 2000, before I was old enough to remember. A few months ago, her doctor gave her bad news about her health, and that if she continues to exceed one drink a day, she will most likely die.
She took that news seriously at first. She stayed off alcohol for a few weeks, only having a cheat night here and there which was fine, but she has relapsed. Now she is drinking as soon as she gets out of bed, and not stopping until she blacks out.
She even came to me for help to stop, and I gave her the best advice I could, and she ignored it. I told her to talk to an addiction counsellor, maybe even go to rehab et cetera, but nothing came from this conversation. Of course she was drunk when we had it, so no surprise.
I'm not great with booze either. I have more than my fair share and I am actively trying to fight the habit. But my mother uses this as a reason to rely on me when she's all out. I had roughly, 30-40 beers in the fridge just last night (I only have one to three a night. Rest is just cheap wine) and this morning I found myself with only ten. (And later, when I confronted her about it, she went on to take two more.)
So I tried calling her and she didn't answer. I texted asking how many she had, even though I knew the answer, and she didn't reply. When she came home (Blind drunk) I asked again, how many did she have and she drunkenly said "Don't worry about it" and I said that I am worried about it because I have always replaced anything of hers that I have, but she deflected, saying that she and her husband were fighting.
I admit, I was losing my patience at this point because she was not listening to me or taking me serious and I got worked up. Not because I was upset over beer, although it is expensive here. I was upset over the principle of it all, in addition to worrying about her declining health. As I said, I have always replaced anything that I take. I even tell her before she finds out by herself. And then once I returned to my room, her husband stomped over to the door and punched it, and yelled something I could not make out.
So when I looked in the fridge earlier and saw I had ten beers left, I was mad. Again, not because I didn't have so much beer to drink, but because she took it without asking, tried to hide it from me and then later, wouldn't even talk to me about it. And of course, also because she is drinking herself to death at this point. I was angry because her doctor gave her fair warning the damage she is doing to her body and I have tried to help but she does not listen. Not only that, if I take something of hers, I have to replace it otherwise there will be hell to pay, but she can take from me and I can't even ask about it.
I know I need to move out. I have been trying. I would if I could.
So, tell me, Reddit, AITAH?
TL;DR: Mum is a drunk who got bad news from the doctor but continues to drink heavily. Demands I replace anything I drink of hers but will steal many beers from me and brush me off when I ask her about it.
