LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
INR 70000 ± 10000 (Haven't been able to decide on a strict budget due to some personal reasons)
- Are you open to refurbs/used?
No
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Build quality Performance Battery
- How important is weight and thinness to you?
I love laptops that look sleek like the Victus. I hate the look of gaming laptops like tuff which look too gimicky. Something thin and classy would be preferred.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
I'm coming from a desktop with a 24" screen so nothing below 15.6.
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Most AAA games, should be able to run new releases for atleast 4 years.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Most games at medium or high setting with atleast 75 FPS
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
n/a
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I am buying a laptop because I am unable to move my desktop from home to my city of education. I need a laptop that allows me to game comfortably on the most recent AAA games and new releases for at least the next 3-4 years. A good screen is important to me. I don't like the bulky appearance of gaming laptops, which look too tacky in my opinion. I prefer something sleek that I can carry around without looking bad. I will be using an external mouse and keyboard, so the built-in peripherals are not a concern. A fingerprint sensor would be nice but is not necessary.

Up to 5000 USD
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
2-in-1 MUST, no compromise.

Not at all
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Big, I like 15 inches or larger
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Nope, but I don't mind maxing out my machine's specs.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Nope
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Fingerprint reader would be nice, touch screen MUST. nice keyboard would be nice. I also MUST need a pen that comes with the laptop but fits in the laptop chassis. No lugging around a separate pen that I might forget, just stick in the laptop and forget it. Doesn't need to be a fancy pen or anything, just needs to work on the touchscreen. Good sound quality from the laptop would be nice too.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I have a Lenovo Yoga C940 15.6" and I LOVE it. If I could swap out these internals with a moden system I absolutely would. This is the perfect laptop other than the aging processor. If you guys could find something similar-ish that would be awesome.

2024.05.19 00:18 firefly_bluejay Recommendations Needed - Under $2k USA
Hello! I was previously using a 2017 razer blade stealth 13” intel and it gave out. I remember purchasing it over a Mac before since it was cheaper with more storage (at the time).
I’m now revisiting looking at Mac - specifically MacBook Pro M3 Pro. I love windows user face and prefer it for familiarity, but it won’t stop me from switching to Mac IF the laptop is worth it.
Thank you in advance for all the help!
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$2,000 max; lower better but willing to invest for higher productivity and reliability
Are you open to refurbs/used?
New preferred
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance / productivity Battery life Low fan / low heat
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Smallethinner preferred but definitely willing to comprise weight/thinness for higher productivity
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
15” or less
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I used a lot of web-based programs (Wix, Squarespace, slack, google workspace, Quickbooks, telegram, company-specific systems, Canva, etc)
I also use Adobe Creative Cloud and Zoom often.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
N/A
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Reliable build quality, touch screen optional
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I’m not too familiar with all the tech specs and language, so it’s harder to describe exact needs. I do use this laptop daily as my only computer, all remote work + travel, and I loved how reliable my razer stealth blade was up until the end (minus the absurdly loud fan).

Hey,
I've been looking at
this laptop (Gigabyte G5) for 899EUR. Seems like a great price considering the spec, doesn't come with Windows 11 but that's cheap in general so I can buy that after. I've read mixed reviews on Gigabyte in general and wondering if there is a better laptop for similar price, slightly more expensive or even slightly cheaper? 1200EUR being the max MAX budget. But if spending an extra 50EUR or 100EUR get's me something much much better, don't be afraid to recommend it. Thanks.

2024.05.18 08:31 Rat_Spinel_Cord Looking for a Lenovo Replacement $800-$900 USD United States of America
I'm looking for something to replace my current Lenovo Idea pad 3. I'd prefer another Lenovo just because I'm really comfortable with how solid and secure they feel. I like the feel, but the Idea pad 3 has abysmal color quality and battery life. While she has served me well I believe it is time for an upgrade.
I'll be using it primarily for schoolwork, but the secondary and equally important use is design work so good visuals are a must!
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $800-900
- Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I highly prioritize at least a moderate battery life(6-7 hours or more). I also strictly do not want a two in one, I prefer nice and sturdy and put together. I also would prefer to not have a touchscreen there will be no visible fingerprints on this device.
- How important is weight and thinness to you? It needs to be light enough to comfortably carry in a backpack.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14-15 inches
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Clip Studio Paint, blender, and games l believe are low to moderate "intensity". This will also be used for schoolwork.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?- Stardew Valley, Ace Attorney, Fear and Hunger come to mind. Most of the games I play are pretty simple, but I would like the option to play stuff at least a bit more powerful. I don't think I necessarily need a gaming laptop though.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?- One of my most important requirements is a bright screen with accurate colors. Also it's not required but bonus points if their are snap on protectors sold for the model, or carrying pouches to protect it form the harsh conditions of the backpack laptop pocket.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

2024.05.17 23:27 Youareyou64 Engineering/gaming laptop
Hi! Looking for a laptop for college next year. I currently have a pc I built with a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 3060ti, which I'm very happy with; I just need a laptop to bring to school.
Total budget: $2000 USD
- Are you open to refurbs/used? Probably not
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I don't need a 2 in 1, as I'm planning to use an ipad for note taking. I would like a laptop capable of playing games like Kerbal Space Program/Cities Skylines/Satisfactory. I'm thinking a 4060 would be a good choice.
- How important is weight and thinness to you? I will be carrying it around every day, so fairly important.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Probably 15", but flexible.
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some gaming as mentioned, I also tend to do casual photo/video editing, music production, and will need CAD for my major.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Cities Skylines, Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft, Satisfactory, maybe Overwatch. 60fps is enough for me at mid settings.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Build quality is important to me, including the keyboard/trackpad. 1tb of storage would be optimal but not a dealbreaker.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm looking at some of the Dell XPS options and the ROG Zephyrus G14 or G16 (on sale in my budget).

2024.05.17 21:51 Farrishnakov I was wrong about the fold...
I was a Fold preorderer. My inner screen worked flawlessly and I was always quick to tell people how great it was and not to worry.
Well, about a week after the last time I defended it, my inner screen went out. Started with a bright white light along a bottom edge and then darkness. Still responded to touch, but no image.
Luckily I was still under warranty by about 3 weeks. Called Google, explained what happened, they started a RMA, all was good. 15 minute task. Or so I thought.
3 days later, the replacement (refurb) device arrives. During setup, I noticed that swipes on the outer display were wonky. Started up the diagnostic test and confirmed that the external display has dead zones. Great. Flip it open, and find that the internal display is already delaminating. Super.
No problem, I thought. Minor annoyance. I call Google support, explain the situation, provide my IMEI, request a replacement device. They say that they've already sent a replacement... I explain, "Yes. The replacement device does not work. It arrived in a broken state. I need another replacement." They then seemed to understand... Said they'd start the replacement process and that I should receive an email and ended the call. No email arrived.
Called the next day. Went through the same process. Had to explain multiple times... Again. Received an email, ended the call. Great, I thought. I thought wrong. It was the RMA for the first device, which obviously wouldn't work.
Called a 3rd time. Explained multiple times. Again. This person didn't understand at all what was going on. Took over 1 hour to get through the process, was asked to use my phone to take pictures of my phone, etc. But, finally, I got a new replacement device request.
Now I have $4000 worth of holds on my card while the first device ships back and I wait to ship back the 2nd device. Super.
But yeah. Foldable screen not fully reliable. It will break at random. I was wrong. I'm sorry.

System will mostly be used for development (both native & web), doesn't need any amount of storage as I'll put in my own 4TB SSD regardless. Doesn't need any OS pre-installed, as I will do a fresh Windows install and dual-boot Linux.
I might occasionally do some light gaming, but I don't expect that I need a dedicated GPU. If any dGPU, AMD only.

2024.05.17 20:48 Proof_Big4234 Budget: ₹55,000 Country: India
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Total Budget: ₹55,000 Country of purchase: India
- Are you open to refurbs/used? No
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, adequate cooling, build quality, battery life.
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Unimportant
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Preferably >14". Willing to compromise.
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'd love to game. I will run Kdenlive, GIMP, Audacity and MuseScore Studio 4. I'll also need it for programming tasks related to my BCA coursework, which involves Java, C++, web development, mobile applications, and Python. I was told that I will need certain specs. I have listed them below.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Maybe GTA V at low to medium graphics and good FPS.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I was told I need these specs: Intel i5 12th, 13th or 14th Gen (I was told Intel is required. No AMD.) 16 GB RAM 512 GB SSD
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is what Linus Tech Tips said: "if performance is your top priority, you're probably going to want a gaming laptop. Generally speaking, they have the best cooling, they feature the fastest processors, and they're cheaper than equally powerful laptops that are marketed at professional creators."

2024.05.17 20:18 rickypiedra Upgrade help please, 1400-1700USD
Hey y'all
So, I currently have a 6 year old HP OMEN with an Intel Core i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz, 16GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. It started failing recently so its time to upgrade. I play at 1080p and am used to playing games at high settings. My budget is around 1400-1700 dollars give or take, so I wanted to know what you guys thought were the best options available for that and for a considerable upgrade quality wise. Extra question is I'm assuming I should upgrade to at least 1440p in general? Thanks! Any other questions in order to recommend something better please go ahead!

2024.05.17 20:13 durden156 Looking for a decent laptop for older parent
Hi folks, my dad is looking to get a new laptop and has not purchased one in about a decade. I have no real knowledge about what laptops are good or not so I am looking for some advice. He is 81 and pretty much only uses it for going online and checking email and just general surfing of the internet. He plugs it into a big monitor and has a wireless mouse and keyboard and rarely uses it outside of this way anymore. What is a decent laptop he can purchase for a reasonable price, or what are things I should look for when buying one? He used to always pay for high end ones but I dont see much of a point in that since he doesnt really use it for much anymore. Thanks for any advice!

2024.05.17 20:06 Unable-Ad2540 [US $1-1.2k] Work Laptop that Games
Thanks in advance for recommendations! I don't trust the lists coming from google searches.
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: USD $1200 maximum
- Are you open to refurbs/used? No
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance above all else
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. My eyes are getting old, so the bigger the better but not at the cost of performance.
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I would like to be able to run all of the following at once without things getting too choppy:
- Most of the Office suite (namely Word + PPT + Excel)
- Chrome with a couple dozen tabs
- Quickbooks
- Capcut or Photoshop but not both (I'm not a graphic designer but I'll run our website and might have to modify something the designer did on the fly).
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Call it a stretch goal, but I'd love to play GOW: Ragnarok, Helldivers, and/or Baldur's Gate 3 on highehighest settings if that's somehow also doable. I don't really have strong feelings (or even knowledge) about FPS so take that as you will. Minimum requirement on the gaming front would be to play Divinity: Original Sin 2 on normal settings.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Bonus points if it has both USB 3.0 and USB-C ports. Will not be using touchpad, but would like keyboard to be decent.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This will be used 99% of the time at a desk, plugged in, with headphones. Windows over Mac for preference.
