*Sounds of swimming then a questioning hum when they hear the listener\* “What? Who is that I hear? There shouldn’t be any other sirens this close to inland at this time. This was supposed to be my secret spot” *Frustratedly\* “I’m going to tell them to find their own spot. I’m not letting anyone ruin this place for me” {Thoughts} “They do sound quite lovely though. I’m not sure I’ve heard a fellow siren with a voice this enticing and yet... not. Hold on a moment” *Swimming sounds as the speaker moves closer to the sound\* {Thoughts} “If I’m not mistaken... this beautifully melancholic voice is coming from the dock. It- it's impossible, this voice cannot be coming from a human. Could it?" {Thoughts} “Oh great deities it is. How is it a mere human could have a voice the sounds so enticing I nearly mistook it for one of my own. And how... *Sigh\* how can they sing with such sorrow.” {Thoughts} “I want nothing more than to soothe their pain *Pause\* Wait, hold on, am I certain this is a human. Why would I care if they are in pain? this must be a spell, there must be something at work here making me feel so... yearnful.” *Frustratedly\* “To hell with this. *Quietly\* I’m taking a closer look, there’s no harm in at least checking in on the *Doubtful\* Human just to make sure they really are one... and since I’m going to be going towards them anyway, I might as well make sure they’re okay.” *Slow swimming sounds and the sound of waves crashing against the shore.* “There they are- *Sharp Breath\* look at them, they are just as... hmm, no no, nearly as stunning as their voice. One thing for certain, they are human. I’ve never heard a human sound so full of such raw emotion.” “If I could *Dreamy Sigh\* I would listen to this forever. I do wonder what they would sound like filled with happiness, however. Their sadness is beautiful, and despite not understanding why, *Angrily\* I am filled with rage at those who have managed to make them feel so terrible.” *Angrily\* “Who could possibly want to make this moderately attractive human feel so awful anyway.... I know talking to myself isn’t going to answer any of these questions. I really should just introduce myself.” *Sigh\* “I’ll just... listen a little longer” *Possible fade of the last couple words and the waves as time skips a bit perhaps\* “Damn it... they’ve finished singing... and, I think I hear them crying. *Angrily\* I swear I’ll find those who have done this and pull them down to the deepest depths of despair.” “Alright, get it together. It’s now or never” *Speaker swims out a bit from the dock and knocks on it to get the listeners attention.\ “Uh, hello human, if you would be so kind as to look down. I would greatly appreciate to have a conversation with you... perhaps... well you see- maybe I could- what I’m trying to say is I would like to find out what has filled you with so much sorrow and... offer my shoulder to cry on... metaphorically... if you wished it. Also you have a pretty voice.” *{Thoughts}** “Seeing the tears up close hurts more than I would ever care to admit out loud to anyone.” *Slight pause and cough\* “That’s correct human, I said I would like to try to raise your spirits. I’m unsure why you are so upset, but I would like to remedy it if I am able.... and yes... I did say your voice is pretty. I do not tell lies, your voice is comparable to that of gentle waves crashing upon the shore on a summer night.” *Confused\* “Why are you blushing. All I did was state an obvious fact” “Anyway human, could you please tell me what has made you feel so upset. As much as I do enjoy listening to you sing, I think I would like to hear you sing something a bit more uplifting if I had the option to choose.” *Mournful\* “I see, you’ve lost someone very dear to you. I can understand that pain human, and I do deeply apologize that you are having to go through this. Truly.” {Thoughts} “I am slightly annoyed there is no one I can take vengeance against” “Yes human, I know there is no reason for me to apologize, I was not at fault. I have heard giving condolences is considered respectful, however. Here human, take my hand, it is not much but I hope the contact helps ease some of the pain I still see swimming in your eyes.” “Why was I here you ask. I like this dock; it is usually empty and sometimes it is nice to find a quiet place to simply listen to the waves.” “No no, you are welcome here whenever you wish to come human. I have found your company, and your voice even better than the sound of the sea.” *Nervously\* “H- human, I would actually like to make a request of you. Could you... come by more often. I would like to get to know you better. And perhaps, once you’re able. I would cherish the opportunity to hear you sing with a more positive disposition.” *Nervously\* “Perhaps... w- we could sing together?”
*Excitedly\* "We can? that's wonderful. I look forward to our next meeting human. I hope we can become very close."

This trip hasn’t been any fun at all and I want to go home already but unfortunately I am here for another 2-3 days. I wanted to go on vacay to get away from MY mom bc she's such a narcissist and i wanted to relax.I’ve tried to make light of the situation until it got worse yesterday.
I Yesterday, we went to a resort in Mexico because the family had a one day pass. At the end of it, Dalia (my friend's 30 yr old half sister) was too drunk and she took a taxi with her 6 year old daughter and Shayla (the sister's friend). We were originally supposed to go shopping at the mall after the resort and eat at an Italian restaurant within the resort but that did not go to plan which was okay at the time. After those 3 leave, it was just me, my friend May and her parents. I thought we were going to go shopping like they said we would because that is something everyone, especially me lol also wanted to do. We didn't even do that and the only reason they even took us to the shopping strip in the first place was because they wanted to buy weed. They didn't even say that initially and I only found that out because they kept getting agitated bc they couldn't find the McDonald's they were trying to use as a land marker. But I knew where the McDonalds was and I was very confused as to why they weren't listening to me when I was telling them where it was. I just assumed they wanted McDonald's since the food at the resort wasn't the best.
My friend told me that they wouldn't directly say they were getting weed because "they still need to be somewhat of a good influence" or something like that, like what?? They haven't been that this WHOLE trip and nobody is fucking dumb. They've been smoking and talking about weed this whole time in front of us/me. So why does THAT matter now ? Why tf would I care you're adults?? I literally have wanted weed this whole time anyway and already bought alcohol.
This is the worst part. After we come back from the whole McDonalds shit, the four of us get into a taxi to go back to the Airbnb. When we arrive in front of our residence, the dad pulls out his card but the driver says he only takes cash. The dad flips his shit, says he's scamming him or whatever. The ride was 200 pesos, which is 10 USD. He says the driver is scamming him because he has been paying with his card the whole time in other taxis. Fhe mom thinks they're being scammed too. The dad was about to punch the driver in the face over ten fucking dollars??? The mom and my friend had to convince him to fucking stop and he kept getting mad at the daughter telling her to get tf inside. I had to end up paying (again) the ten dollars because I had cash. I say again because at the start of the trip, I had to pay 80 dollars for the cab to the Airbnb bc the dad didn't have service to pay so I used the cash I had. I did get the money back but still. wtf. Also they were not being scammed and if they were it wasn't even THAT bad because all of the taxis are 10 to 17 dollars from the mall to where we live. Theiithink it's a scam because he wanted cash. I had a taxi driver when I snuck out once because there wasn't any food and I was STARVING, I asked him if he takes cash or card and he said cash, but it was still all the same price. They don't know I snuck out and I'm glad I didn't tell my friend that I did because she would have told them. probably.
The next day, which is today, I wake up and everybody is just fucking gone besides my friend and her sisters daughter. This pisses me off because they have left us, to baby sit the little girl AGAIN for idek how many times they've done that. It's extremely fucking annoying I haven't even been able to enjoy the trip and my friend damn sure has not either. she said she was really embarrassed yesterday to the dad and wouldn't have invited me if the parents were gonna act like they do at home with/around me. The dad "apologizes" today saying "Im sorry for being so embarrassing" like what?
They told us to go shop and have fun. To not let any of the shit that happened ruin the fun. Idk how that's possible but whatever I might as well. My friend didn't want to go shopping because she was crying and upset today. I was getting dressed because I said I am just going then because I was so sick of not being able to do ONE thing I wanted to. She then ended up coming with but then her phone not charging ruined her mood again and she wasn't going anymore. I was given money to use from home and was determined to just use it.I just wanted to do something fun for fucking once. I told my narc mom I was going to go out with or without my friend because it would have been BAD at home for me had I not enforced that. She kept pleading me not to go alone but I was persisting and wasn't asking. She just ended up telling me she's worried and to just be safe. Wasn't mad.
I walked out and paid for the taxi. I only went because it was only a 3-5 minute taxi ride to the public mall to shop. My friend then calls me asking if I left and why'd I go without her?? She literally didn't even want to go anymore and I said that. She tells me she insists I come back and she said it wasn't smart to leave and that "I'll get snatched up". Her parents and everyone were angry with me she said. First of all, her parents and everyone else kept fucking walking away from us without saying a word as to where they were heading. could have been fucking kidnapped multiple times because of them since that's the damn problem. I didn't even want to go alone initially, but it was bright as day outside, I am sick of this family and I'd rather be alone and do what I want to do, since that's clearly never gonna happen with them. Plus I shouldn't have to rely on company or anyone to have fun, especially at this point. Her mom gets on the phone and just tells me to come back bc she's responsible for me but then is like "because if you don't come back Im going to have to call your mom". I can never get a break away from my mom no matter the damn situation it seems. That was literally not needed at all. She called her anyway regardless of me saying I was coming back.
Also now im being accused of stealing their fucking weed they leave out on the counter. I don't need ur fucking weed if I WANTED weed (which I have this whole time but that was only between me and my friend) I can BUY my own weed with the money I have. The first time my friend asked me I didn't care because it was just a question out of concern. Today she asked me a second time and now I am feeling accused. She said her dad thinks I took it because my laptop was there. EVERYBODYS STUFF HAS BEEN DOWNSTAIRS. How is that even a good accusation and you're asking me the second time. There was no way it was not Shayla because she kept walking away to ask strangers for fucking cigarettes day 1 of the trip. then walked away AGAIN that day to try and buy some. She was also downstairs at like 5am one time bc I went downstairs to go outside rq and I saw her doing god knows what in the dark. I don't even think they even tried to question her about it, since she's been smoking with them but instead have only been accusing me.
I have tried to be very respectful to my friend's family because I don't want to be rude or say anything bad since that's her family. I don't know how long I'm going to be able to deal with it though and if I'm accused a third time I am going to fucking snap and probably cuss someone out. I am also trying not to get into any trouble at home because whether it's reasonable or not my mom is going to say I was being disrespectful and take their side on that regard.
TL;DR: I am on vacation in Mexico with my friends family and my patience has been tested this whole entire time. i've been accused of stealing weed twice which I have NOT done at all and it doesn't seem like they've asked anyone else. The dad threatened to punch the taxi driver over ten dollars bc he thought the taxi driver was scamming him when he wasn't. I had to pay for the ten dollars in cash and I also paid 80 initially at the start of trip for the taxi because the dad didn't have service on his phone.

I (24M) is working as a chief audit officer in a small company, the salary is not too-big but enough to pay our electricity and water bills.
I came from a big family, all in all I have 5 siblings one being a step-brother. I have two older sisters, two older brothers, and one younger step-brother. To give more visual on it, the order is; older brother, older sister, older sister, older brother, me, and younger step-brother.
Despite my parents being annuled they still live in the same neighborhood, I live under our mother's (46) roof while the two older brothers had long moved away from the state we live in. Along with me are my older sister and her girlfriend. So basically, Me, my mother, older sister and her girlfriend is living in the same roof. Recently my second older sister got married and decided to live with her husband on her in-laws city two years ago.
In the second house where my father (58) and his second wife lives is my younger step-brother. Although the age-gap between me and my baby brother is huge we are really close, often time he would sleep with me in my room.
However, recently my sister who got married two years ago had just given birth. She decided to move back to my mother's house, hearing that news I immediately offered her my room. Few weeks passed and it's going well, the baby is receiving a lot of attention, plus my younger brother loves her he can spend his time with the baby when I'm still at work. This until my brother in-law decided to stay with my sister. At first I had no issue, literally none.
One Sunday morning my mother's neighbor friends came to visit, no work during weekends. They are chatting in the living room while I do work stuff in my laptop, despite being busy I can still listen to their conversations and would crack up when they throw jokes. Then one of them asked if my sister's husband is here, which my mother replied 'yes'. The same woman pointed out that they never actually saw his face, which made me realize something.
My older sister (29) have always been introverted, before even her marriage she often just stay still on her bedroom (my father's house). She also found her husband through Facebook, after a year of chatting she started going to HIS house! And after a year of dating they decided to get married because... she got pregnant. Just like her, my brother in-law had stayed in my room since he arrived. He would only get out when meal is prepared, yk what, sometimes my sister would even bring the foods inside my room so they can eat their meals there.
This realization made me believe that it shouldn't be this way, her husband should at least help to wash their daughter's clothes because they keep letting my mother do ALL of it. I tried as much as possible to understand them and their situation, but it was too much. I finally decided to step-up when I heard that he (brother-in-law) actually quit his job so he can HELP my sister get through the first-time-mother-experience. And I actually heard this during the time my sister's having conversation with my mother asking for money to buy diapers and formula. It got me enraged.
Before I could confront my older sister, I first, decided to talk to my mom. My mother is unemployed (I told her to just sit home and relax since me and my other older sister with her girlfriend can support her daily needs and we often bring her to restaurants to let her enjoy at least. Which we stopped doing after my sister moved in.) I told my mom to knock some-sense on my brother-in-law and of course my sister. I get it, my sister is caring for her daughter but her husband in not doing much — he should've just stayed where he was and should've never quit his job. My mother said she couldn't, it's too hard to do. And I don't want to her to feel this kind of feelings anymore so I said I should be the one to do it. (I can right? Since I'm the one paying for the electricity and water bills I think the right to)
Which then I did, over dinner we invited everyone to be on the dining area to eat. My older sister along with her girlfriend are the ones that cooked and prepared the dining table, I carefully knocked on my room's door to invite the two to eat dinner. Thankfully their daughter had already fallen asleep, without waiting for them to open the door I walk back to the dining area. I once again, only saw my sister walked out of the room carrying the dishes they used early that morning for their breakfast. I waited for her to see what she will do next, I was waiting whether she will eat with us or would bring her meal with her husband's in the room. She did the latter. I had enough. Before she could even walked out of the dining area I stopped her and softly told her to eat with us, and for her to invite her husband out.
She said that her husband is SHY!? I let out the most bravest words I could ever say. I told her that if they continue acting like this I would personally kicked them out of the house and they stay with my father's. It was a long night but I'd rather not discuss all of it, all I knew was that she got really mad and locked the door of my very own room.

I've been working on this story for... 3 months? 4? who knows, with my ability to keep track of time I could have started this yesterday, anyway, this is a story that has sci-fi elements, and some fantasy, although the fantasy stuff is mainly dragons so lets say adventure for now, (cause I don't know shit about genres, I just wrote the story) , Keep in mind, this has been written in free time, of which I don't have a lot, so if you don't like the story it is probably my fault, here is a look at:

Dragons wing

I slowly drift from my sleep and think to myself, ow, why is everything warm? I check the thermostat and see that it is at a temperature as cool as Canada and when I turn back to go back to bed so that I can sleep in, I see that my stuff has been knocked over? Oh sorry, where are my manners? I'm James O’Maley, I put everything back into place, and lay down on my bed but nothing is comfortable! I just decide, you know what, whatever, I’m just gonna get ready for work, and with that i get dressed, everything feels harder to put on, but it really hits me when I go to brush my teeth, when I looked into the mirror, I saw that their were, wings on my back, and a tail, growing out my butt like a lizard, I obviously spend several minutes having an existential crisis about this shocking revelation, and I decide to look at what these wings can do, I open a window, crawl out, with some difficulty and some slamming the window on my tail. I go to the edge of the fire escape railing, hop on, and jump, and I flew, higher and higher, until i nearly flew into a mountain but that's when I suddenly breathed fire, from my mouth, and bore a hole straight through the cliffside, I could spend all day flying, breathing fire, and fiddling with my tail, but I began to feel as tired as if I’d just gotten back from lifting weights with tigers, I landed on a cliffside and fell asleep. When I woke up I wasn’t on the cliffside anymore, there were monitors and scientists all around me. I tried to show some sign that I was awake, but I was chained up! I spent several moments struggling to get free, I must be free, I am not something they can chain down! I struggle, I roar, I attempt to move my head enough to burn the surrounding area, but I can’t, until someone finally talks to me,
“Hello there, James, please forgive us for our caution, but with your kind we can never be too careful.” I can see the scientist, I read his name tag, Dr. Crane William, I roar out
“My kind!? Get me out of these chains!” I breathe fire, claw, kick and swing my tail, trying to free myself, until I see two other people watching, one with weird whiskers, a long tail and a smug look on his face, and the other with a similar appearance to me but her wings are her arms. The next few days go by, until the two finally decide to talk to me, and in those days, My face becomes a snout like a komodo dragon’s, the one with the whiskers opens his mouth first and I already hate him
“Would you look at that, he’s even uglier up close!” I glare at him with absolute hatred, that seems to anger him more,
“What are you mute or something? Speak before I tear you apart!” he takes one step closer and that's all I need, I Bite his shoulder and use his head to break the chains on my right arm, I continue to break the rest of them with ease, and tell whiskers
“You want to fight? Let’s fight!” I leap on top of him, clawing at his face, he tries to slash me with a blade on his tail but I grab it and stab the wall with it, until I feel a burning sensation in my veins, The girl had bitten me! She looks at me with sadness,
“Sorry about this,” I look at her and drift into unconsciousness, when I wake up next I’m in some kind of, medical wing, ha, wing, as I look around I feel that my mouth is bound shut, but other than that, I can move my body, I get up off the gurney and just when I think it looks nice, whiskers shows his face,
“Well thanks a lot freak, now I’m on probation with Dr. Crane.” I motion to my mouth and he seems to have enough brain cells to understand what I mean
“Ha! You got the boot, Lily had that on her when she wouldn’t stop biting staff, I’m Ryan Mist.” I just walk away and try getting this muzzle off, That's when Crane walks in,
“Well, I must say it has been a while since we’ve had to use the boot, Ryan, your behavior was unacceptable!” I can tell that Crane is annoyed, and right as he finishes his sentence, click, the boot falls off my face and clatters to the ground. I don’t bother trying to fight Ryan again, I’m just happy to be able to talk!
“Well that’s a lot better, now, talk, I want answers.” I growl, Crane and Ryan seem surprised that I got the boot off but they talk, turns out, I’m what’s called a dragonkin a Human who has dragon genes in their genome, Lily and Ryan are also dragonkin, although they can’t breath fire, Lily has fangs and a venomous bite, turns out she’s the girl that bit me, and Ryan just looks weird, apparently we are the only dragonkin who evaded the organization that Crane works for, Called ‘Kadmus,’ into adulthood, Lily being found at 22, ryan at 20, and me at 24, on top of that, we are the only dragonkin who have survived that long, it’s at that moment that I notice Lily looking at us from behind some glass, I decide that I’ve heard enough and open the door, and I leave the room.
As I leave the room I can tell that Lily was not expecting me from the look on her face, I start a conversation with her, trying desperately to be friendly and not notice all the scientists glancing at me nervously.
“Hey, Lily, Right?” I say in the friendliest tone I can, “I’m James.” Lily looks at me with a calculating look before answering
“Hello, yeah my name is Lily, Lily Megan.” she clearly is wary of me, but I can tell a few things about her, making herself look small, clearly smarter than she lets on, seems shy,
“How did you get it off?” Lily breaks into my train of thought with the question,
“What?” I ask her, confused,
“The Boot, how did you get it off?” She gestures to the room where Crane and Ryan were having an argument, but more specifically to The Boot, laying on the ground
“Oh that? I once took a lockpicking class when I was younger.” I explain
“Huh, you mind teaching me that sometime?” She catches me off guard with that one, I can tell that she is being genuine so I agree, And we begin working out what time works best.

The next few weeks go by in a flash, but I’ll summarize it for you, I ended up getting my own room like Ryan and Lily, I start teaching Lily how to pick locks, and we end up having a few game nights where we played games like charades, poker, even monopoly, lets just say that we will never play monopoly again. However, the most important thing of all, we ended up finding another dragonkin! We aren’t sure what dragon ancestor he has, but we think he’s another eastern long tail, like Ryan, the new guy’s name is Dillian, He’s great, absolute goofball, he’s from Australia, and according to him, his family has never been anywhere but the land down under, weird, but the guy’s like a little brother to me, so it’s cool, and that catches you up. “Hey Dillian!” I lean my head into his room, “Wanna come hang out with the rest of us? It’s movie night!” Dillian just looks at me, unreadable, 

“Okay, your loss.” I try to hide how unnerving that look felt, but something doesn’t feel right. I go back to the lounge, where Ryan, Lily, and Crane are all waiting for me,
“Sorry guys, Dillian, isn’t up for it.” Lily looks at me disappointed,
“Aw man, and we're even watching Dune!” I just look at her with a sad look, but Ryan manages to lift the mood a little bit,
“Last time we let Crane pick the movie!” Crane just glares at Ryan, I can tell he’s about to lecture him so I just start the movie, around one hour in, boom, everything is blurry, and there is dust swirling, everything hurts. I see Lily and Ryan helping evacuate the scientists, I don’t see Crane anywhere! But that's when I see it, Cranes lab coat, soaked red and underneath a piece of rubble, I try to run towards it, but I can't stay on my legs, I call out,
“CRANE!” My friends hear me, they rush towards me and they see the lab coat, Lily tears up, Ryan is too stunned to speak, then we hear it, we hear him. Dillian, he’s laughing, laughing at the lab coat, laughing at us, My head snaps toward him, I feel the rage burning, my wings flare out, fire rises in my throat, I grab Dillian by the collar, and I roar,
“Do you think this is funny?!” Dillian just keeps laughing, “Crane is deadI!” Dillian looks at me, and he finally stops laughing, he pushes me off and spikes erupt from his skin, his tail wraps around my throat, and he growls,
“Don’t touch me you cretin, my ancestors were nearly wiped out by yours, I’m just returning the favor.” I look at him confused, Ryan seems to have been just as confused as me because he asked,
“What do you mean? The Eastern long tails have never had an issue with the Flying flame drakes.” Dillian just flicked his wrist and one of the spines shot out and nearly sliced Ryan’s head off!
“Do not compare the Wyrms to those foolish sky beasts! They have ruled the land for centuries!” Dillian roars, at this point I finally manage to choke out,
“Wyrm? Like the dragon inside the mountain Wyrm?” I struggle against his tail, I finally get a claw hooked under it and pull, it takes all of my strength to get my head loose and retreat, and then I see Dillian fully for the first time, pale skin covered in red spines and a long tail that could probably crush a normal humans windpipe, if I wasn’t a dragonkin I’d be dead.
“So, you do have a brain. Indeed, my ancestors were the Wyrms, Masters of the land, and the only dragons to be nearly forgotten by time, if it weren’t for the colony under Australia, I would not be a dragonkin.” Dillian snorts, and after saying his piece he leaped up, dived down, and bore through the earth, I try to go after him, but Lily holds me back,
“James you're hurt, and you would not stand a chance against him in your current state!” I hate to admit it, but it’s true, I would not stand a chance against Dillian, oh man, my leg hurts, I look at my left leg and I see that it has a shard of metal sticking out of it, and then everything feels heavy, I hear Lily yell out my name, but she sounds so far away, I don’t try and fight it, I just let the darkness envelope me, at least in the dark I can’t hurt, when I wake up I’m in the medical wing ha, it’s still funny, I have a bandage around my leg and then it all rushes back to me, Crane’s lab coat, Dillian laughing, the rage, everything, replaying over and over in my mind, I immediately try and stand up and I find a lot of difficulty in that, but I manage to stumble off the bed, I avoid putting weight on my leg, and I use my wings when necessary,
‘Well it’s about time you woke up, and here I was thinking that we had wasted time and resources.” I spin around to see a lady in a suit and glasses looking at me with a look of disdain,
“Hello, I am Dr. Leanne Vern, but you can call me Leanne. I am your new head researcher, I hope you are ready for your next few tests, Dr. Crane wasted a lot of time ‘bonding’ with you.” It’s right as she finishes that sentence when I feel the urge to make it her last, I feel rage burning under my skin and I glare at her with every last ounce of anger possible,
“What.” Either she didn’t get the memo or she is just a jerk, because she did not care, but either way I continued,
“Do you think that now is a good time to either ridicule Crane, or tell me that you need to run tests on me? I am not your lab rat” I grab her collar “I am not something you just get to boss around, If you say something like that again I will send you straight to the underworld where you belong.” I shove her back and go look for Lily and Ryan, I find them in the cafeteria, I get some food and sit down across from them,

However, the transmission speed started to go down. There were all sorts of possibilities for this, considering that the cable ran for 2000 miles along the ocean floor. Maybe the seawater combined with electricity caused gradual damage to the cable.
Another consultant was a former doctor who had become interested in electricity. His big idea was to simply put in greater voltage (Kelvin had developed a very sensitive device called the Mirror Galvanometer and he argued against bumping up the voltage.) The doctor was listened to despite Kelvin's arguments and he got them to put 2000 volts through -- this rendered the cable permanently useless and another had to be laid using two separate ships which met somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic to make splice.
Kelvin of course had experimented to derive his theories about signal transmission and prior to putting all this juice through, why did not the company experiment, even on land, and determine whether "bigger was better"?
I don't know, maybe the ex-doctor talked loud or had influential friends -- but that did not make him right.
We need to listen to people who know what they are talking about, not some dope who comes up with a theory that made ND Tyson tell Terrence Howard not to contact him further with his "theories."
Science is built on a rigorous process and is validated by experiment -- a theory is important if it can make predictions.
Just what prediction have a single one of the "theories" or whatever Howard calls them made? Not a single one. He has no educational qualifications, no scientist takes him seriously. I hope the transatlantic cable story illustrates the dangers of listening to silly (and lazy) people.
Another genius was James Clerk Maxwell whose equations formed the basis for relativity as I understand it. I chuckle thinking of his response to Terrence Howard. And note that even nearly two hundred years ago, real scientists already were far ahead of where Howard is -- or maybe I am wrong and Howard really mastered contemporary mathematics before spouting his revolutionary ideas that were supposed to overturn all modern science and math.

Our muslim girls are marrying non-Muslim men and nobody seems to care!
This is happening left and right...in families that are practicing muslims and in families that are not so practicing.
Is that really allowed?
What does Islaam say about that?
Let's take a look.
🍃Allaah says:
وَلَا تُنكِحُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنُوا
"And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikoon till they believe (in Allaah Alone)" (Surah al-Baqarah :221)
Here Allaah is telling us directly...clear and straight.
"Do not give your daughters to non Muslim men."
Simple as that. The Order couldn't be more straightforward or clearer.
🍃In the tafseer of this aayah, at-Tabari said:
"What Allaah, Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala means in this verse is that He has forbidden believing women to marry a mushrik (polytheist) of any type. So do not, O Muslim men, give them (Muslim women) in marriage to them (mushrikeen), for that is forbidden to you."
(Tafseer at-Tabari, 4/370)
🍃And Al-Qurtubi said:
"And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikoon" means do not give a Muslim woman in marriage to a mushrik. The ummah is unanimously agreed that a mushrik should not marry a believing woman under any circumstances, because that undermines Islam." (Tafseer al-Qurtubi (3/72)
🍃Al-Baghawi said:
"And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikoon till they believe (in Allah Alone)" - there is consensus on this point: it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to marry a mushrik man."
🍃In another aayah, Allaah says:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا جَاءَكُمُ الْمُؤْمِنَاتُ مُهَاجِرَاتٍ فَامْتَحِنُوهُنَّ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَانِهِنَّ فَإِنْ عَلِمْتُمُوهُنَّ مُؤْمِنَاتٍ فَلَا تَرْجِعُوهُنَّ إِلَى الْكُفَّارِ لَا هُنَّ حِلٌّ لَّهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحِلُّونَ لَهُنَّ وَآتُوهُم مَّا أَنفَقُوا
"O you who believe! When believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them, Allaah knows best as to their Faith. Then if you ascertain that they are true believers, send them not back to the disbelievers, they are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them." (Surah al-Mumtahinah :10)
Here Allaah is directly addressing us as believers.

Isn't that you and me?
Yes, it is.
WE claim to believe.

Our Rabb is calling out to you and me and telling us straight up that disbelieving men are NOT LAWFUL for believing women.
🍃Regarding this aayah, Ibn Katheer said:
"Allaah says: "they are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them". This verse is the one which prohibited Muslim women to mushrik men."
(Tafseer al-Qur'an al-'Azeem, 13/521)
It's as simple as that. No ifs and buts about it.
🔴 Such a marriage is NOT valid!
That's because one of the conditions of a valid Islaamic marriage is that the man should be Muslim.
If a muslim woman marries a non-Muslim man, this marriage is NOT A marriage in the eyes of the Shari'ah.
This woman is making a grave error and is guilty of committing zina!

🍃Statement of the Islamic Fiqh Council regarding this matter:
"Marriage of a kaafir to a Muslim woman is haraam and is not permissible, according to scholarly consensus, and there is no doubt about that because of what is stated in the shar'i texts." (Fataawa Islamiyyah (3/231)
🍃Just look at the rulings on such a woman!
"If a Muslim woman marries a non-Muslim man, knowing the ruling thereon, then she is a zaaniyah and is subject to the hadd punishment for zina.(Ya Allaah!!!)
If she was unaware of the ruling, then she is excused, but they must be separated, with no need for talaaq (divorce), because the marriage is invalid in the first place."

🛑 Should I go to such a wedding if I'm invited?
NO we should not be going to such a wedding that's not valid in the sight of Allaah.
If we take part in something that's haraam, then we're indirectly condoning that haraam.
In fact this is cooperating in sin and transgression, which itself is a sin.

"And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression" (Surah al-Maa'idah :2)
🛑 What should I do?
Part of our being a Muslim is to enjoin the good and forbid the evil.
So here's what we can do depending on the situation.

1. If it's possible, go talk to the parties involved and help the man to understand and accept Islaam and say the Shahadah. That is the best scenario.
   
2. If he does not want to become Muslim, then explain to them how this marriage would not be valid and try to talk them out of it.
   
3. If they don't listen and still want to carry on with this adulterous relationship then simply DO NOT attend this so-called 'wedding' and be devastated about it in your heart. But at least you did your job.

"Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; and if he cannot, then with his heart [by at least hating it and believing that it is wrong], and that is the weakest of faith." (Muslim)

Many sisters 'think' they 'love' the non-Muslim man and they can't live without them.
Dear sister, this just a trick of the Shaytaan.

🛑 But then, why are Muslim MEN allowed to marry a woman of the People of the Book?
First of all, when Allaah and His Messenger have ordered us something there's no arguing about it or any other way around it.
We have to listen and obey.

"It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error" (Surah al-Ahzaab :36)
So if we are believers, we obey.
That's what BELIEVERS do.
....even if they don't understand it.
Just obey.
No questions asked.
THAT is true submission to Allaah.
THAT is Islaam.

"The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allaah (His Words, His Orders) and His Messenger to judge between them, is that they say: 'We hear and we obey.' And such are the prosperous ones (who will live forever in Paradise).
And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger, fears Allaah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful ones"
(Surah an-Noor :51-52)
Even if there were no other reasons, and no other explanations except this one, that would be ENOUGH for us as Muslims to obey Allaah's Command.
But for those who want further explanation:
As Muslims we believe Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aalaa is al-Hakeem, al-'Aleem, the Most-Wise, the Most-Knowledgable.
There is a reason for everything He does. And He knows better.
Allaah has allowed the Muslim man to marry a woman who's a Christian or a Jew and NOT ALLOWED a Muslim woman to marry a nom-Muslim man because of several reasons:
A) The man is in a position of leadership over the woman, and it is not allowed for a non-Muslim to be in a position of leadership over a Muslim woman.
🍃The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
"Islam prevails and is not prevailed over." (al-Daaraqutni and others -hasan by al-Albaani)
B) Allaah tells us in the Qur'aan that men are 'qawwaam' over their wives, meaning they're in charge.
The husband is the leader or head of the household and his status within the family is higher than that of his wife.
Because of this higher position, if a muslim woman were to marry a non-Muslim man, the husband would influence his wife in a negative way and make her leave her Deen or at least be very lax about it.
He would not be helping her to obey Allaah and in fact he would be an impediment in doing that. And would be an obstruction between her and Jannah.
C) The higher status of the husband will also influence the children to follow their father's religion, which would be nothing short of a DISASTER for the family, if these children grow up to be non-Muslim.
🛑Conclusion
Faith is not just words, my sister, unless it's accompanied by ACTIONS.
If Allaah has prohibited Muslim women from marrying non-Muslim men, even if they're from the People of the Book, then we have to submit to that order and accept it without any qualms about it.
Allaah's Guidance is the best guidance and His Way is the best way.

I was listening to a recent podcast that interviewed Titans GM Ran Carthon.
In the interview they asked him what he thought about the Falcons taking Penix. He claimed that they weren’t that surprised by it because of how certain teams (Falcons are one of them) draft a position a year or so before the need is there.
This made me think of the Cardinals drafting a RB 1 year before Conner’s contract is up and other teams that have done something similar.
If we knew certain teams typically do this we could get ahead of the curve if we were able to anticipate certain moves… like a team drafting your players replacement.

Only just recently got a family sub and invited my family with email addy's. My youngest uses mine to listen to music but I really dont want his music influencing my song suggestions. Is there a way to set up something like "profiles" - one for my best music of all time and one for his.

Hello, this is a short situation but I just have to know if I’m the A-hole. My friend (let’s call him Mk) has another friend (let’s call him Creepy) who I’m very uncomfortable around. In the past Creep hit on, leaned on, and followed me around during our parties in the community room of our dorms while heavily intoxicated, not to mention every time without fail tried to ask fotake my vape even though I’ve told him no time and time again. He was never invited just showed up and we couldn’t kick him since it was the community room. Lately I’ve become decent friends with Mk and about three times he’s invited creep to join us in card games in my room, which I’ve caught creep staring at my ass and more. When I told Mk he was not welcomed to our events if I am the host and relaid the things he’s done he said “I don’t think any of that’s happened but ok” but then two nights later he invited him and had him apologize for the things he’s done and said “I don’t remember doing any of that and I’m not sure it actually happened but I apologize” which I did not take because it truly felt like he did not care about how I felt in that moment.
Flash forward to tonight. I spent hours prepping drinks and baking a ton of food for a Harry Potter themed party for our group. Mk asked if he could invite creep since he “apologized” and I said “I’d rather you not.” And he shrugged. An hour later he calls someone on the phone and walked out of the community room. Moments later he walked in saying “Look who I found!” And creep walks in behind him. Mk then says “Listen Op I know you don’t like him so if you wanna tell him to leave you can” I didn’t want to seem like a jerk because Mk was the only one tracking what creeps done and I didn’t like being put on the spot so I just said “fine”.
Not even ten minutes later after everything has passed on Mk says to everyone but looking at me “I don’t know why you hate him so much it’s a little ridiculous” and all I could say was “I don’t hate him just, can you drop it? It’s over let’s just have fun” and Mk says “I’m just saying you’re being silly and it’s not that big a deal”. I again asked if he could drop it and just stop continuing the conversation in which he proclaimed he wasn’t continuing anything and repeated him self once again ask why and I just got so frustrated that after hours of cooking and prepping this was the treatment I was getting, forced to hang with a creepy guy and being morally interrogated in front of all my friends. I decided to just get up and leave saying “I’m done, I can’t even have fun at my own party”

Hi all, future bride here in a few months. My future MIL is driving me and my fiancé crazy. She wants her way with everything and is very immature if we don’t listen. I’ve been very nice to her and invited her to meet with vendors and she gets pissed when they don’t include her and talk to me and a few of them even say “my focus is on the bride” Any type of thought or opinion I have she absolutely loses her mind. I told my fiancé you need to shut this type of behavior down right now because this is foreshadowing to how she’s going to behave when we have kids or do anything. Am I wrong? Any advice? Does anyone have any insight to their MIL during the wedding process vs children? Was the behavior similar?

So I've been a happy user of x2200w for 8 years but I think it's high time for a change, mostly to use eARC, 4k120hz and perhaps improve room correction. I don't listen to music much it's more about movies, TV series and gaming. Media are either streamed or used with Sony Blu-ray player, gaming via HDMI connected windows PC.
All my speakers are Dali in 5.1.2 setup: 2x zensor 7, 2x zensor 1, vokal, e-12f sub and 2x Alteco c-1. TV is 77" LG C2.
What would you recommend? I think the highest I'd be willing to spend would be the price point of x3800h although I simply like a good price/quality ratio. I was also looking at x2800h, Onkyo 6100/7100, Sony ta-an1000 and Yamaha V6A.

Last night, at about 2.30am, my soundtouch 10 in my bedroom started randomly playing music. I didn't recognise the music at all. None of the 3 other identical speakers in the house started playing music.
I'm trying to work out what the possible reasons are.

1. My Spotify or my wife's Spotify account is compromised. However we both checked our Spotify apps and nothing was shown as playing as you'd expect to see.
   
2. My Bose Soundtouch account is compromised. I didn't think to check if the music was playing from the Soundtouch app so I guess this is a possibility?
   
3. There was an automatic firmware update and the speaker restarted, and then automatically started playing whatever radio station I'd recently played through the app in error. This seems most likely to me, but I don't even know if these devices get updated anymore.
   
4. Someone outside the house found the Bluetooth device and connected to it. It was the middle of the night, but I did hear a car pull away not long after, so this might be a possibility. But I think to pair a new device via Bluetooth you have to physically press buttons on the speaker?
   
5. Anything else? I can't think of any other reason. I think the only steps I can take are to make sure Spotify and Soundtouch accounts are both secure, and otherwise chalk it up to a bug.
   

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Does the Bluetooth protocol mean its possible someone's device connected accidentally?
Edit: the plot thickens. My wife does know what the song was and it's on a playlist on Spotify she's listened to recently. I'm just guessing it was a big of some sort.
