2024.06.02 07:12 pk2708 How do I know if I actually added body fat from a cheat meal or if it is water weight?

So, I’ve lost about 16 pounds this month and since it was May 31 yesterday , I had my monthly cheat day (Chicken Tikka Masala 2 servings + 1 butter naan and full plate of rice , 7 rice cakes as evening snack compared to my usual 1-2 rice cakes and a milk shake from Starbucks which is about 1k calories ). I stepped on the scale and it has risen by 3 pounds. Now , while I did have a good amount of food, I really don’t think that I ate like 10k calories over my maintenance. But I’m feeling weird and kinda feel like maybe it’s better to avoid cheat days since this 3 pound increase is really messing with me as I almost never slip up even once and I’ve had a monthly cheat meal every 3-4 weeks and I used to have it like weekly (not the whole thing, just chicken tikka masala plus rice) and it never did this. But now, I feel like I only made 12 pounds progress instead of 16 because that’s what I logged in as my “total weight lost in May”. But did I really gain 3 pounds from one cheat day?

2024.06.02 06:02 generic_human97 Burdock & Co (*) - Vancouver, Canada

Went here for a fabulous dinner. It was their resin-themed menu. Ambiance was relaxed and cozy. We added the fried chicken as well as the regular wine pairing.
Chicken - absolutely fantastic. Juicy, crispy, and tender. The sauce was citrusy, creamy, and refreshing.
Liver profiteroles - crispy and airy choux pastry. Liver was creamy and the elderberries added a nice pop of sweetness.
Stuffed morels - one of my favourites. Very delicate earthy flavour with a hint of sweetness from the pine syrup. Morel was crispy and tender, the fermented pine nut sauce was creamy and tangy. Lichen was more of a textural element than anything else.
Scallop ceviche - very citrusy and refreshing. The fir sorbet was interesting, kind of salty and intensely herbal. I’m not sure if I like it or not. I don’t think adding the caviar was worth it, it didn’t add that much to the dish. I made the mistake of trying some of the white stuff under the shell, thinking it was ice—turns out it was salt 😅
Ravioli - in my opinion the weakest dish this dinner. The pickled spring onions overpowered the rest of the flavours and the ravioli wrappers were too thick. Great nettles and sauces though.
Cod - glazed with a spruce tip sauce, radish cake, and caramelized onion nori “pineapple bun”. The cod was buttery and delicious but OH MY GOD THE PINEAPPLE BUNS. They were amazing: crunchy and sweet and richly umami and buttery and deeply caramelized and everything else a bun should be and more. I would do anything for those buns. The paired wine was a Greek retsina, very intense flavour. Interesting but I don’t know if I liked it or not.
Beeswax cake - This one was interesting. The beeswax tuile was chewy but I kind of liked it. Pear sorbet was fabulous and the cake had a nice buttery texture. Paired with a local mead-based vermouth that was quite nice.
Caramels - great way to end. Rich, bittersweet, chewy, sticky, deeply flavoured. Hint of cedar from the pine cones.
Overall this was a great meal. There were a few misses, but it was very enjoyable. Service was friendly but professional as well.

Pt 16 the Hills & mocktail night. I love how Heidi throws shade at Spencer by not toasting to him. 🤣🤣
Recipe: pineapple juice, orange juice, orange sparkling water. But honestly, her shade was perfect and no one wanted him eating with the family. I am also trying out this new bundt cake. Hopefully it's good.

2024.06.02 01:25 sageeatsworld Type 1 has rapidly aged me

I’m only a few months shy of it being 3 years since diagnosis. And I can’t believe how much I (f, 28) have aged since diagnosis.
To start, just a few months after diagnosis I gained over 50 pounds and have had the hardest time losing it. Even just trying to get back to and maintain the weight I had for most of my life is an impossibility now. It is almost near impossible not to gain weight, let alone maintain it. Heaven forbid I even dare try to go down in weight and be in a deficit which doesn’t work anyways. As opposed to before I didn’t even try to be skinny and I maintained 110 pounds easily with very little effort. I feel like I can’t even help it, I’m SO HUNGRY all the time. Literally I can eat a full meal and feel like I ate nothing. At least right before I got diagnosed that was the case but at least I didn’t gain anything and was even rapidly losing (not recommended obvz I was dying) how the fuck am I not supposed to eat all the time? Im so hungry.
Also, about a year into diagnosis I developed high blood pressure and have since been on lisinopril. I was fucking 27 years old at this point even my doctor was in denial about it at first cuz how could I possibly have high blood pressure at 27? Now when I try to recreationally do drugs at a festival idk once every 6 months (ya ya go ahead and judge me) it’s all of a sudden much more complicated because of the high blood pressure thing. High blood pressure in general creates so many issues and my doctor almost won’t even let me have my oral birth control because of it I had to beg her basically because it’s the only thing that’s worked for me all these years.
Also, I can’t even FUNCTION past 9pm without taking a nap earlier in the day and even then with a nap I’m EXHAUSTED if I try to go out and even have a social life. Im so so so tired and can barely work 8 hours a day and manage to go to the gym. I have no strength or energy left to pursue any hobbies or things I previously loved so now I’m just a depressed sack of potatoes that gets grumpy if I’m not in bed by 9pm exactly.
My hair is even thinning out now more so than before and trying to gain any amount of muscle seems impossible even though I’m in the gym literally 5-7 days a week. I eat SO fucking healthy like I’m some grannie because of this disease and still even then have mediocre time in range (typically 60% or less) despite eating only like Turkey, eggs, veggies chicken and maybe a rice cake once in awhile. And that’s WITH A PUMP.
My memory is shit, I forget everything all the time and I can feel how the lows are making me dumb as fuck. It takes so much more now for me to think or problem solve or remember things. I know lows kill brain cells or whatever but I feel so damn stupid now all the time.
For fucks sake it shouldn’t be this hard and now at 28 years old I feel like I’m fucking 50. This stupid disease robbed me of what is supposed to be some of the “best years of my life.” Like yeah right. At this rate hope I don’t make it to 50, yknow? By then I’ll probably feel like I’m fucking 80.

2024.06.02 00:44 PM_ME_CORGI_PUPPERS Clone House Review #3: Lattafa

Lattafa is a mixed bag. It has strong hits that are among my favorite budget scents, but its misses are among my least favorite scents I’ve tried. The quality seems boringly, middlingly consistent. Winter scents will last all day with medium projection, whether or not you want them to; summer scents last longer than expected due to synthetic ingredients. Lattafa is a good starting point for fragrance clones if you care about getting the most juice for your dollar, but their ability to replicate scents varies fragrance to fragrance.

Ameer Al Oudh Intense Oud (Replica By The Fireplace)

Sweet and oudy, transported me to sitting by a crackling fireplace on a cold winter’s day. Unfortunately, there was a sickly sweet note I couldn’t get past. I can’t tell what it is, but it made me go from appreciating the sweet, woody, and slightly spicy scent to scrubbing it off after less than 30 minutes.

Asad (Dior Sauvage Elixir)

I’m almost sad that this doesn’t live up to the hype. This fragrance can be summed up in three words: spicy woody vanilla. It’s perfectly middle of the road in almost every aspect, a jack of all trades and master of none. How spicy is it? Spicy, but not as spicy as similarly priced clones like Tobacco Touch. How woody is it? Woody, but not as woody as similarly priced clones like Rochas Moustache. How vanilla is it? Vanilla, but not as vanilla as similarly priced Lattafa clones like Nasheet. Opens with a strong Middle Eastern peppery spice that never truly goes away. Sweetness evokes spicy Coca-Cola. Pretty good projection and longevity.

Eternal Oud (Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir)

The amber is so strong that the opening feels slightly scratchy. After few minutes, it settles into a rich, warm amber with vanilla and a hint of fruitiness from the plum. It doesn’t have the depth of Grand Soir, but is closer than expected for 1/8 of the price. It smells a bit like Grand Soir got slightly diluted with an added drop of cranberry juice concentrate; still a nice, elegant fragrance but less formal than MFK. Unless you smell them side by side, it would take either a very trained nose or a terminally online cologne lover to tell the difference. This is the best Middle Eastern clone of Grand Soir, but I haven’t tried the American clone house versions. It has great longevity at 10+ hours with decent projection the entire time.

Honor & Glory

The pineapple crème brulee with a hint of vanilla drew me in, and the turmeric-forward spice and JPG-esque sweet note drew me away. Opens like a pineapple crème brulee and keeps adding vanilla as time goes on. Stays gourmand without being cloyingly sweet, but introduces a sweet note that reminds me of what made me put Ramz Silver in the “for sale” pile. The spice adds a nice balance; I just wish it were blended better to be more cohesive with the rest of the fragrance. Cinnamon, turmeric, and cashmeran give it a definite but subtle Middle Eastern twist, which I wasn’t expecting but enjoy.

Ishq al Shuyukh Gold (YSL Babycat)

From the moment I put it on to the moment I scrubbed it off three hours later, Ishq al Shuyukh smelled like heavy suede and leather. I could pick up very subtle notes of vanilla if I really tried. I’ve never smelled Babycat and, frankly, I no longer want to.

Maahir Legacy (Parfums de Marly Sedley)

I’m a big fan of Sedley and the mint and lime combination in Maahir Legacy is incredible. Better projection than most citrus-based scents – it lasts a full day without needing to reapply. Reminds me of a body wash in the upscale section of Target in both a good and bad way. On the plus side, it has an enticing combination of green and citrus notes that I enjoy; however, it smells synthetic and sits heavy, like most body washes I’ve used. I wish it were lighter.

Masa (Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede)

Opens with strong cumin and saffron with a hint of bitter mango; if I weren’t so interested in the drydown, I would’ve washed it off. As it dries down, the cumin goes away, highlighting the Ganymede-esque saffron and mineral notes with mango layered over top. Smells far more mature and premium than I expected from Lattafa. Ridiculous performance; almost 24 hours later, I can still smell the two sprays I put on my hand directly after taking it out of the box. The mango adds a nice touch, but I still smell like the spice section of a Middle Eastern grocery store for the first few hours. If this scent started at the 2-3 hour mark, it’d be among my favorites.

Nasheet (Nishane Ani)

Despite not listing notes of lemon or vanilla, this fragrance delivers a beautiful spiced lemon vanilla. The spice is mostly nutmeg, though I can pick up a bit of woody and peppery feel from the frankincense. Despite the strong spice, it still feels smooth and sweet and creamy in the drydown. Not quite gourmand, but I can see a spiced lemon cake smelling like this straight out of the oven. Nasheet is perfect for fall or winter as well as the colder part of spring; I wouldn’t wear this once I can comfortably wear t shirts. Lasts 5-6 hours before becoming a skin scent, and can still smell after 10. I haven’t compared this to Ani directly, but it’s apparently very close. One of Lattafa’s better offerings.

Ramz Silver (Jean Paul Gaultier Ultra Male)

The second fragrance I’ve had that I truly don’t understand the hype for. Starts off strong with vanilla and pear and a touch of herbal spice underneath. A decently well-made, balanced fragrance. Then a synthetic bubblegum drowns it all out. Up to six inches away, all I can smell is synthetic bubblegum. Someone on Parfumo described it as “chewing gum spit out by an alien from Planet Pear Mint” with sage added, and that’s unfortunately better than anything I could come up with. Bubblegum note lasts even as the opening fades. Would work well on a younger man (<25) or at a club, but too synthetic and loud for daily wear or around the office.

Ta’Weel (Louis Vuitton L’Immensite)

A lovely light citrus with strong ginger and hints of amber. I discovered I like my citrus a bit woodier. Even for a freshie, a bit too light of a scent – doesn’t bring the aromatic green notes found in L’Immensite or the Montagne clone. Not very strong performance and needs re-application, but the longevity is likely due to being a freshie with a weak-ish base rather than a statement about Lattafa quality.

2024.06.02 00:22 Ok-Seaweed-5611 Compound chocolate vs real chocolate

Compound chocolate is everywhere now from major brands like mio amore , monginis and also 99 percent of bakeries use compound chocolate to make there delicious confectioners heck even I make them. But the catch is compound chocolate are sugar first hydrogenated oils second and chocolate third followed by few emulsifies, stabilizer and artificial flavouring and colour mimicking itself to be chocolate. Real chocolate on the other hand is made up of only 4 ingredients cocoa mass , cocoa butter , sugar and few stabilizers. In short compound chocolates are a health risk and even worse not even chocolate. Few places in Kolkata sell real chocolate cake kookie jar being one of them but heck it's expensive 1000 above for a pound of chocolate cake. I operate my bakery in behala and my customer base is pretty price sensitive I sell a pound of cake for 300 and after doing some costing I can sell real chocolate cake for 500 keeping my original profit without anyextra. I would like to educated my customers and people all around what we know and love as chocolate is actually a slow poison at best. I would also like to know would people actually buy a pound of cake for 500.

2024.06.01 22:41 MoonyAndTea Just got my haul

I picked up a Tahiti island dream ffm, fresh amalfi lemon ffm and cream, peach bellini ffm, cherry blossom ffm, sweetheart cherry shower gel, endless sea hair wave spray, iced lemon pound cake three wick candle, and a greenhouse fern three wick candle!
I love the candles, I'm super excited for the hair wave spray, I adore the peach bellini ffm and the sweetheart cherry shower gel. Cherry blossom to me was lovely (I'm giving it to my sister though lol).
I regret buying the fresh amalfi lemon products just cause I already have sun washed citrus ffm and cream at home so I'm going to return those. I was so excited for the Tahiti island dream mist cause the scent notes were nice and I love the packaging but I think I'm going to return that one too, the smell just doesn't seem like what I was expecting. It was definitely too fast of a purchase for some of the items LOL.
All of the block party smells imo were not very good. I was excited to smell strawberry soda but I thought it was meh when I actually got the opportunity to see it in person. Same goes for cloud nine, confetti daydreams, etc. They smelt the same and were lacking fragrance.
I was so excited for today cause I work at bbw and I love smelling new stuff but honestly it was pretty disappointing 😔 it wasn't even that busy. I swear at my location it's busier on regular Saturdays than for SAS today 💀
