2024.05.19 05:07 workinhardplayharder Standalone GFCI upstream of a dimmer switch for outdoor lights?

Like the title says. Planning outdoor lights and want to be able to turn them on/off and dim them because I think my wife's vision is slightly overkill (something's are just easier to comply then disagree, happy wife, happy life). Read a lot of unhappy reviews about plug in controllers. So I was thinking of running a home run from the breaker box through the attic and drop down into our screen room off the back of the house in plastic conduit. Put a double box in with a standalone GFCI then go to a dimmer switch. Back up into the attic and out to 2 soffit receptacles. I've read a lot of people saying no to dimmers upstream of GFI's but not finding anything about the other way around.

2024.05.19 05:05 eclectic_mom [spoilers all]Theory about Varric and Female Hawke

So, some of you know I write fanfiction and other...things. While working on some ideas I had a thought occur to me. It's come up a bit before, but I want to hear some of your takes on it. Keep in mind the theory is loosely based on the missing scenes/cut scenes that were discussed by the game writers about 2-ish years ago regarding Varric and FemHawke.
Theory: We all know Varric exaggerates his writing a bit, but he also takes from real life events. Now imagine that DA2 is us playing Varric's published work about the Champion. What if he put in another romance so that no one knew about him and femHawke to protect her? Now connect that theory and look at how they react to each other in Inquisition.
I know the first thing that will probably be mentioned is Bianca. Okay, I hear you on that BUT hear me out. We finally meet Bianca in Inquisition. We know through dialogue that Bianca basically had a long standing relationship with Varric only to basically leave him at the alter for her current husband. A husband she chose based on caste and nothing really other than that. When we meet her in Inquisition there is some tension there, but not the tension of lovers still having an affair. Tension of Varric being basically over it and now he is having to deal with her again, only this time it could have gotten Hawke and everyone else killed. So, with the theory in mind, I tend to take Bianca out of the equation as she already seems to be.
He is also the only one that knew were to find Hawke to bring to the Inquistor. He hid her from everyone including Leliana and Cassandra. Think about that he hid her from Leliana the spymaster. Now, when we see Hawk appear in Inquisition he hangs around and jumps in the conversation just like always. When they speak in the hall outside of the war room, it's clear that this was planned to a degree. How do you know? Hawke says "you've done well Varric." Keeping in mind her personality from the second game, this was planned. He was meant to be captured by Cassandra to keep Hawke safe and get her and whoever else out of Kirkwall after Anders actions.
So, is it far fetched to go with the "deleted scene" of Varric and Hawke walking away at the end of 2 and the conversation alluding to the big reveal that it was their romance the whole time and he kept it quiet so Cassandra and the others wouldn't find out and Hawke would remain hidden and safe for as long as she needed to.
(Yeah that was a run on sentence...sue me).
So, yes I'm working on my own fanfiction for this (because of course I am), but I want some feedback too.
What do you guys think and why?

Hidetsugu and Kairi Upgrade Tips $25 Budget
Hello again everyone,
I wanted to build a low budget but powerful deck. I think I've done just that, but I wanted to get the communities advice before finalizing the deck.
[[Hidetsugu and Kairi]] - Main gameplan is abusing the legendary rule by cloning my commander to abuse the ETB and Death trigger it has. I can then stack the top of my deck to burn my opponents while also casting free powerful sorceries / instants. As I'm running a lot of Clones the backup win is just copying the best of my opponents stuff.
Scryfall.com has my deck priced at $23.98. So only a little wiggle room in the budget.
I tried categorizing every card the best I could on archidekt to make the deck easier to understand.

Aura of Radiance (Su) The light of Lathander shines perpetually. No matter how dark it is, the Morninglord sees as though the conditions were identical to the outdoors at sunrise. This ability functions like darkvision out to 60 feet, except that he sees in color. Lathander also has a +2 sacred bonus on saving throws against spells with the darkness descriptor and a +2 sacred bonus to Armor Class against attacks from undead creatures.
Beam of Sunlight (Sp) Lathander can evoke a dazzling beam of intense light (the equivalent of a beam from the sunbeam spell) once per round as a full-round action as long as his radiant aura is active as a 56th level caster.
Blessing of Dawn (Su) The sight of the morning sun is an inspirational vision for the Morninglord. Lathander gains a +2 morale bonus on Will saves from sunrise until noon. This ability is in effect only while he can see the sun; the effect is suppressed any time he is deprived of the sight of it during this period.
Celestial Fortitude (Su) Lathander’s endurance and fortitude are enhanced against fiendish attacks. He has a +2 sacred bonus to all Fortitude saving throws against effects from evil outsiders and evil spells. Additionally, if he makes a successful Fortitude saving throw against an effect from an evil spell or evil outsider that normally deals half damage or partial effects on a successful save, he instead takes no damage and suffers no partial effects.
Celestial Minion (Sp) Lathander may summon a Medium or smaller size celestial animal (with the celestial creature template) as a standard action usable once a day. This celestial minion carries the same responsibilities as a paladin's special mount and gains the same bonuses to its HD, natural armor, Strength, Intelligence, and other special abilities that a paladin's special mount has, but only remains for 20 hours before returning to the outer plane from whence it came.
Creative Fire (Ex) The Morninglord is a creative, expressive deity. He has a bonus equal to his morninglord level on all Craft and Perform checks.
Divinity Lathander is an embodiment of ancient divine power. As such, reality is his to shape as he sees fit.
Alter Reality: Lathander may alter reality within the bounds of his portfolio. This functions as a wish spell that requires no XP or material cost. The limits of this ability are fully described in Deities and Demigods. He can additionally alter his size from Fine to Colossal and may additionally alter up to 100 pounds of objects in the same manner.
Avatar: Lathander can have up to 20 avatars at any given time. The Morninglord appears as a golden-skinned athletic male of exceeding beauty who has just fully entered early manhood. He wears noble robes constructed in the colors of the dawn, carries himself proudly, and dresses in the finest golden plate armor if attending to matters that might turn violent.
Divine Blast: Lathander can create a ray of divine power that extends for up to 17 miles, dealing up to 444 points of damage, as a ranged touch attack with no saving throw. Lathander can unleash a divine blast 23 times per day, and alter the visual, auditory and sensation-based qualities of his divine blast as he desires. Lathander’s divine blasts generally take the form of rays of fiery sunlight.
Divine Shield: As a free action 23 times per day, Lathander can create a shield that lasts 10 minutes and stops 170 points of damage from attacks. Once the shield stops that much damage, it collapses. Any damage Lathander is naturally immune to does not count towards the shield’s limits.
Earthmother’s Boon (unique salient divine ability) Chauntea is Lathander’s lover and has bestowed a degree of protection over her consort. By her grace, the Lord of the Dawn cannot be harmed by any nonmagical plant or any creature with less than 33 Hit Dice with the plant subtype. Epic creatures and creatures with equal or more than 33 Hit Dice must succeed at a Will save (DC 79) to harm the Morninglord.
Greater Turning (Su) Six times per day, Lathander may use greater turning as the granted power of the Sun domain. This is superseded by his Lord of the Dawn salient divine ability.
Lathander's Light (Su) Whenever Lathander casts a spell with the light descriptor, its area is doubled.
Lord of the Dawn (unique salient divine ability) Lathander is the sun. He is the light that drives back the darkness, the brilliant spark that lights the way out of night and the creative brilliance within every artist. His dominion over light and the sun, both physical and metaphysical, grants him a variety of powers as listed below:
Fires of the Sun: The light of the sun shields Lathander’s body. This protection renders Lathander immune to all forms of magical and nonmagical fire, with searing effects only dealing half damage. In addition, spells and spell-like abilities cast by Lathander from the Sun domain, or with the [fire] and [light] descriptors, are similarly enhanced and are always intensified.
Radiance of the Dawn: Lathander can shed light equal to full sunlight in a 17-mile emanation from his body that counters and dispels all Darkness effects unless created by a higher ranked deity. Undead and evil outsiders caught within the radius must succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 79) or be destroyed and turned into dust. Creatures vulnerable to sunlight suffer a -17 penalty to the saving throw. A successful saving throw still deals 17d8 points of damage, while creatures vulnerable to sunlight suffer 17d12 points of damage.
Spark of Creativity: Lathander is the commander of creativity, the inspiration and muse for craftsmen and artists throughout the Realms. 17 times per day, Lathander may bestow a +17 divine bonus to any Craft or Performance check, or the Efficient Item Creation feat, to up to 17 creatures for the next 24 hours. Performances and non-magical items crafted beneath the aegis of this ability always earn three times the normal gold amount and have three times the listed market price in cost. Magical items crafted with the benefit of this ability add +17,000 gp to the listed market price and increase any numeric benefit (enhancement bonuses for the purpose of attack and damage rolls, armor and save bonuses and so forth) by +4.
Spurn the Profane: Lathander uses the totality of his character level to determine the effectiveness of his ability to smite evil, turn outsiders and undead as well as any of his feats that affect the undead. His turn attempts resolve as greater turnings (as the granted power of the Sun domain). In addition, Lathander adds his paladin spells to his clerical spell list, using the sum of both lists to determine his caster level.
Wrath of the Dawn: As a standard action Lathander can generate a ray of scorching light that extends for up to 17 miles and inflicts 17d6 points of damage, half fire and half divine. As a full attack option, he can generate up to four rays, and undead and evil outsiders suffer 17d12 points of damage. In addition, Lathander can duplicate the effects of any spell with the [light] descriptor as a standard action. (CL 65th, DC 50 plus spell level).
Maximize Turning (Su) Once per day, Lathander can automatically achieve the maximum possible result on a turning damage roll. This is superseded by his natural divine powers.
Radiant Aura (Su) Three times per day, Lathander can emanate an aura of brilliant light that weakens undead creatures for one minute. The aura provides bright illumination in a 30-foot radius around him, and shadowy illumination for an additional 30 feet beyond that. Creatures that take penalties in bright light also take them while within the radius of the bright aura. In addition, undead creatures within the radius of bright light take a —2 penalty on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws. Activating the radiant aura is a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. While his radiant aura is active, Lathander casts spells with the light descriptor at +2 caster level. The radiant aura is the equivalent of a 5th-level spell with the light descriptor for the purpose of interacting with spells and effects with the darkness descriptor.
Rejuvenation of the Morn (Su) Dawn is a powerful symbol of rebirth and renewal. Once per tenday, Lathander may spend one uninterrupted hour before dawn in prayer. As soon as the sun rises after this prayer ritual, he gains one benefit of his choice from the following list.
· Healing up to full normal hit points (self only).
· Removal of any poisons or diseases (self only). This effect does not restore ability damage or ability drain caused by poison or disease.
· Full restoration of ability damage due to one poison or disease.
If his prayers are interrupted for even a single round, the attempt is ruined, and he must wait a full tenday to try again.
Resist Fiendish Lure (Su) Lathander has a +4 sacred bonus to all saving throws against mind-affecting attacks of evil outsiders.
Possessions
Dawnspeaker, Lathander’s gold-and-ivory mace, is a +10 fiery blast ghost strike mighty disruption heavy mace of holy power and evil outsider and undead dread. When held by the Morninglord, it also functions as a holy devastator. The DC of the weapon’s disruption and dread abilities is 79, and creatures vulnerable to sunlight suffer a -17 penalty to saving throws made to resist Dawnspeaker’s abilities. Lathander is known to loan out Dawnspeaker to questors and warriors he deems worthy and can call it back to his hand from anywhere in the cosmos.
The Morninglord also occasionally wears a set of golden +8 full plate with the powers of an armor of the celestial battalion. The bonuses are not reflected in the above statistics.
Other Divine Powers As a greater deity, Lathander automatically receives the best possible result on any die roll he makes (including attack rolls, damage, checks, and saves). He treats a 1 on an attack roll or saving throw normally and not as an automatic failure. He is immortal. Senses Lathander can see (using normal vision or darkvision), hear, touch, and smell at a distance of 17 miles. As a standard action, he can perceive anything within 17 miles of his worshippers, holy sites, objects, or any location where one of his titles or name was spoken in the last hour. He can extend his senses to up to 20 locations at once. He can block the sensing power of deities of his rank or lower at up to two remote locations at once for 17 hours. Portfolio Sense Lathander is aware of any event under the light of the sun, competition or act of artistry of the number of people involved up to 17 weeks in the past and 17 weeks in the future. Automatic Actions Lathander can use any skill related to his portfolio as a free action if the DC for the task is 30 or lower. He can perform up to twenty such free actions each round. Create Magic Items Lathander can craft any magical item that associated with heat and light, aids in self-empowerment, preserves or restores vitality or harms the undead, including artifacts.

Eternal Rest [Ravenloft: Legacy of Blood 71]
Necromancy
Level: Cleric 6
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: Ray (see text)
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will partial (see text)
Spell Resistance: Yes
This spell creates a ray of golden light that destroys one undead creature’s material body (if it has one), causing it to crumble to dust, which is then wafted away in a swirling breeze. This spell affects incorporeal undead without the usual incorporeal miss chance, and such a creature merely winks out of existence if it fails its save. If the target makes a successful save, it still takes 6d6 points of damage. If the creature has a special quality that allows it to return after destruction (such as a vampire’s fast healing power or a ghost’s rejuvenation power), the creature gains a bonus equal to its Charisma modifier on its saving throw. If such a creature fails its saving throw against this spell, it must make a successful Will save at the same DC (also with its Charisma modifier as a bonus) to return. If the creature’s method of return normally requires a saving throw (as a ghost’s rejuvenation power does), the creature must first make that saving throw, then make the Will saving throw against this spell.
You can improve your chance of success by presenting at least one object or substance that the target hates, fears, or otherwise finds repulsive or painful (such as a mirror and bud of garlic for a vampire). For each such object or substance, you gain a +1 bonus on your caster level check to overcome the target’s spell resistance (if any), and the spell’s saving throw DC increases by +1. A particular creature’s history might suggest additional objects or substances that would make the spell more effective.
This spell can also be cast when an undead creature has been physically destroyed and its remains are not present. In this case, the spell must be aimed at the spot where the creature was destroyed, and it must be used within 1 minute of the undead creature’s destruction. No attack roll is required for this use of the spell.
This spell can destroy an undead darklord’s physical form, but it cannot prevent the darklord from returning.
Rainbow [Dragon Magazine 321 68]
Conjuration (Creation)
Level: Cleric 6, Radiance 6
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Effect: Rainbow bow, quiver, and arrows
Duration: 1 hour / level
Saving Throw: No
Spell Resistance: Yes
A rainbow-hued longbow appears in your hand, along with a full quiver of arrows fletched with different colors. The longbow is considered a +1 longbow that the caster is proficient with. The quiver holds an endless supply of seven different colored arrows, each being made of a different material and having the following effects:
Red: +1 elemental-bane adamantine arrows.
Orange: +1 construct-bane silver arrows.
Yellow: +1 plant-bane evil-aligned arrows.
Green: +1 magical beast-bane good-aligned arrows.
Blue: +1 undead-bane lawful-aligned arrows.
Indigo: +1 aberration-bane chaotic-aligned arrows.
Violet: +1 dragon-bane cold iron arrows.
Only the caster is able to use the bow, quiver, and arrows. They appear immediately back in the caster’s possession if dropped or given away, though the caster may drop the bow and quiver to use another item, but can rematerialize them at will, as a free action. The bow, quiver, and arrows have no weight and cannot be disarmed or sundered.
Know True Name [Kalamar: Player’s Guide 3.0 177]
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Cleric 8
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 action
Ranged: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft. / 2 levels)
Target: One fiend
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes
You force a fiend to tell you its true name. Once you know a fiend’s true name, all spells that you cast at that creature have their save DCs increase by +4. You also gain a +4 on all checks to penetrate the creature’s spell resistance.

2024.05.19 04:41 ampscraze When should I go all in?

TLDR at bottom.
Mobile format yadda yadda yadda.
I’m new to the hobby. I’ve gotten really into birding over the last few years and am starting to get into bird photography. Picked up a used nikon p950 and have really enjoyed taking photos with it and learning to use it better. I do have a parent who was a photographer growing up, but almost exclusively photographed people. They do still have their old equipment—pertinent later.
I knew when I bought the p950 if I really enjoyed photography the camera would become frustrating, but I also knew that it was perfect for what I bought it for: taking good enough pictures of far away birds to identify later.
Predictably, I’m now really starting to enjoy the taking pictures aspect of birding. Would it be crazy to go all in?
My thoughts:
Pros:
If I get a nice mirrorless body, I can use an adapter and use my families lenses allowing me to fiddle with stuff before going all in on glass.
A really nice camera lense combo will hurt the wallet really bad, but only once. I would hate to slowly creep my way up the scale of cameras as I got more and more into this. I’ve done that with hobbies before, and often regretted not just going for it from the start.
I know what I want and why I want it and where I would use it.
My partner also is interested and likes taking photos, so it would be a fun, shared hobby.
A nice setup would give me room to grow and not be limited by equipment.
I have lots of outdoor hobbies and this slots in nicely with other things I love to do.
I think it would be fun.
Cons:
The setup I want is very expensive and probably (definitely) way too much camera for the photographer I am now.
My partner mostly wants to take landscapes, fairly different equipment wise from birds. Would require multiple lenses. Partially offset by borrowing family glass, at least temporarily.
Having a much nicer camera does not mean my photos will be any good.
Sticking to the brand my family uses limits options slightly, but the camera I have my eye on is in that brand.
Open to all thoughts and opinions.
TLDR: should I, shitty photographer that I am, get a really nice camera setup just because I think taking photos is fun.

2024.05.19 04:35 Flimsy-Use7311 Salvage and Survival

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the desolate prison yard. The air was thick with tension as Rick Grimes gathered the group around the fire. The Governor's first attack had left them battered but not broken. The Woodbury militia had retreated, but in their haste, they'd left behind something of great value – an M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun mounted on an abandoned HMMWV.
Rick's gaze shifted to the distant wreckage. "We need that gun operational," he said, his voice steady. "It could be the edge we need."
Daryl Dixon, ever the practical one, nodded. "I'll take a look at it, see what we can salvage."
The group dispersed, each member falling into their roles. Daryl and Glenn Rhee headed towards the HMMWV, while Maggie Greene, Michonne, and Tyreese scouted the perimeter for any signs of danger. Hershel Greene and Carol Peletier tended to the wounded and kept an eye on the children.
The HMMWV stood like a silent sentinel amidst the ruins of the recent battle. The M2 was still mounted, but it had taken some damage. Daryl inspected the gun, his keen eyes assessing the repairs needed.
"Glenn, we’re gonna need parts to fix this," Daryl muttered. "Think we can find what we need at that National Guard post nearby?"
Glenn nodded, determination in his eyes. "It's worth a shot. We should head out at first light."
The next morning, a small team set out: Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Michonne, and Maggie. They moved swiftly and silently through the overgrown back roads, avoiding main routes where walkers and human threats were more likely to linger. The National Guard post loomed in the distance, a grim reminder of the world that once was.
The post was eerily quiet. Vehicles were abandoned, and the gates hung open, swaying gently in the breeze. The group approached cautiously, weapons ready. Inside, they found the remnants of a fierce battle – shell casings, spent ammunition, and the decaying remains of soldiers and walkers alike.
"Stay sharp," Rick whispered. "We don’t know what’s waiting for us in there."
The team split up, each member searching for anything useful. Glenn and Maggie located a storage room with several boxes of .50 caliber ammunition belts. They loaded them into their packs, their hearts racing with every creak and groan of the building.
In another section, Michonne found spare parts that might be useful for repairing the M2. She carefully examined each piece, selecting only what they needed. As they worked, the tension in the air grew thicker.
Suddenly, the moans of walkers filled the air. The noise had drawn a small horde, and they were closing in fast.
"Time to go!" Daryl shouted, firing his crossbow at the nearest walker.
The team regrouped, their path to the exit blocked by the undead. They fought their way through, each member displaying the skill and determination that had kept them alive this long. Rick's revolver roared, Michonne's katana sliced through the air, and Daryl's crossbow thudded with deadly accuracy.
They broke through the horde, making a mad dash for the exit. As they neared the gate, a new threat emerged – a group of armed survivors, eyes glinting with desperation.
"Drop your weapons and hand over the supplies," the leader demanded, his gun trained on Rick.
Rick’s eyes narrowed. "We’re not looking for trouble, but we’re not giving up what we found."
The standoff was tense, both sides ready to fight. But before it could escalate, the sound of an approaching walker horde distracted their adversaries. Rick seized the opportunity, signaling his team to move. They fought their way past the human threats, using the chaos to their advantage.
The journey back to the prison was fraught with tension, but they made it, battered and exhausted but triumphant. They quickly set to work, repairing the M2 with the parts Michonne had found. Hershel supervised as Glenn and Daryl loaded the belts of .50 caliber ammunition.
As night fell, the M2 stood ready, a powerful symbol of their resilience and determination. Rick looked at his weary but resolute group, pride swelling in his chest.
"We’ve got a fighting chance now," he said quietly. "We’ll keep fighting, for each other, for tomorrow."
The group nodded, united by the hardships they had faced and the hope that flickered in the darkness. They had salvaged more than just a weapon; they had salvaged their spirit and their will to survive.

2024.05.19 04:07 Accurate_Context3661 What’s my MBTI?

I perceived myself as an INFP for a while, however I am recently unsure and I do think that my own perception of myself may not be enough, I would like to see how other people think about it.
• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
I prefer not to specify my age, however I am a teenager (so perhaps some things could be a product of just being a teenager, but I would still like to see what I could be typed as). I am a female. I typically do not speak to others often, partially due to how difficult it is to do so (it is difficult because although I do like conversing I do not formulate my thoughts well in one go) and furthermore I am very shy (I do not usually admit this first however, because I don’t like it when people assume shyness is the only reason why people, or I, don’t talk). I particularly enjoy answering questions in a conversation because there’s a lot of things in my mind and it’s nice to share them. People who aren’t close to me describe me as too quiet and don't talk at all. However if they were closer, I would likely end up talking too much in an undignified manner. Furthermore, typically I’m surrounded with people who talk a lot, but if I’m surrounded by people who don’t talk at all, I may end up being the one who speaks. I am concerned with the accuracy of my statements when it comes to discussing ideas, but only due to fear of judgements, so sometimes I go back and forth to check things a lot. I especially do this when texting. Despite that, I seem to act recklessly sometimes, especially due to random bursts of excitement. I end up regretting this later. I unfortunately do not know where I get these bursts of excitement. It’s strange to me, but people think I’m mysterious and calm, even though I’m the complete opposite. I’m pretty sure not many people know I have anger issues. I like to think of philosophical things and I often look over my values.
• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
I never had a medical diagnosis related to my mental state. However it might be relevant to say I do have a risk for depression.
• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I’ve learned a lot of my values from one parent. Or at least, I’m influenced by it. This particular parent always thinks that it’s better to explain the benefits of a particular choice, and give them the choice to do it or not based on that, rather than forcing them to do so. Perhaps I learned something from that because I agree with that line of thinking. However I am not sure if it is common. My family is entirely Christian but they are not strict. Therefore I am not sure if this influenced me (I am not religious at all), but I did go to church in the past. I’m not sure how telling this could be, but I used to be very loud, however, for reasons I don't even know, I suddenly became extremely quiet.
• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
It would be refreshing since my weekends are typically more stressful-sounding than spending it entirely alone. I don’t like my typical weekends because I have to do too many things when I just want to physically calm down.
• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
I enjoy sports a lot. However I am terrible at sports, I am physically weak and am not able to aim very well in most sports. I am particularly good at badminton however, because I am just able to comprehend how it works very well. I enjoy walking and running a lot, because it feels much easier to imagine things that were inside my thoughts during then, and therefore it is very fun.
• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I am not sure how curious I am, but if I am interested in something I will definitely start researching it online a lot. Sometimes it is much too tiring for me to do this though. I do have a lot more ideas than I can execute, but this is mostly since I am not skilled enough in the particular areas that are required to execute these ideas (adding onto this, in the past I’ve been described as “brain running faster than can keep up” by others, but I am not very sure if this still applies today). I am sadly unsure about what my curiosities and ideas are about. I think it is mostly conceptual because there is no way it can be applied to the environment at all. Actually, I just mostly, and very obviously, mix whatever stories I read and whatever I learned from anything I consume and make something that entertains me, but outside my head it would very likely be seen as “cringe”.
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
I would enjoy it just to try it, however I don’t have enough experience to be accurate about this. I definitely would not be good at it because I am not very good at directing people actively, I am very unsure of myself. I am also too slow to lead people. If I try to lead people without being told I’m supposed to be by the group (this is unlikely), I’d just keep them focused on the goal. I’d also help them with understanding how to get there if I do know. However I think if I was given this role by the group I would be very confused and end up overthinking, so it would probably be the worst to make me a leader.
• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
I don’t understand this question very well so I apologize if I answered it incorrectly. I do not particularly think I am well coordinated or not coordinated at all because it varies a lot. I do enjoy working with my hands, particularly if I’m fidgeting with something, but I do not know how to specify this.
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
I mostly draw people and not anything else when it comes to drawings. I draw with an attempt for it to look realistic. Typically I don’t draw anything abstract because I don’t know how to, but if I could, I would on occasion. If this counts, I also enjoy writing fantasy themes, however I sadly can not muster enough motivation to write.
• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
I am not fond of the past at all. I tend to not think too much about the past, but when I am talking about the past, I am mostly thinking of my past actions rather than experiences. It is difficult for me to talk about my opinion of past experiences detached from my own actions. Also, most are too bland for me to write my opinion about. I do not think about the present much, it is usually other people that bring me to the present. Then again, I don’t really know how to see the present since it passes by quickly. I often think about the future, but not the distant future. I’m thinking of the future as in the future in relation to other people. It is difficult for me to think of the future in relation to myself.
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
If I’m not focusing on doing something else I would gladly help. I would help because, why not? It’s just a feeling of inclination. I do not know why else I would help.
• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
I don’t understand this well, but from what I assume, I suppose so, but I never thought about this. I assume that it would confuse me otherwise. What even is anything if it is logically inconsistent?
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
Efficiency is a very good quality, so it must be important, is what I think. If you could be efficient if you tried, yet you don’t try to be, it’s a bit irking, but I suppose that is hypocritical. I stress about productivity a lot despite not being productive myself, at least, from what I see. My thought process is that if I’m not productive myself, then I am not smart. I don’t know where I got this idea, because I don’t apply this to others.
• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
I don’t control others. It seems too tiring to order people around. Even indirectly, I don’t notice myself doing so.
• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
Photography because I like the scenery that comes with it. It’s interesting how lighting can affect things. However I am not that experienced and don’t know much information about this so I can’t describe why I like it much. I enjoy drawing because I enjoy looking at the results and seeing how I improve. I find art interesting in general because it’s like you can create almost anything with it, so most artistic hobbies I would like for that reason.
• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
I don’t know, other than that I often find myself relying on using logic for classes and not at all memorization. I do not apply creativity and physical senses to classes nowadays, so I think I wouldn’t prefer classes like that.
• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
I improvise a lot. I think I don’t like to strategize because it’s too tiring and I don’t have a goal I am going for so I can not strategize at all (if I do have a very specific goal I would try to strategize). I don’t think I strategize enough to answer how good I am at it, but when it comes to strategy in relation to other people, I am bad with it.
• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
I simply just want to improve myself both professionally and personally, with my personality, morals, and behavior. I don’t think I will find an end to that, because I’m constantly trying to think of what’s good and what’s bad. I would really like to improve my skills with a lot of things too, such as things related to writing.
• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
I don’t want to talk about what I fear or what makes me uncomfortable. I hate being dragged into things without being told about them because I would be fine with it if I was told beforehand. I don’t know why though.
• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
I think my highs are more grounded in reality. I notice whenever I’m at my best I feel more connected to reality for some reason, and I am very reasonable.
• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
Generally I think I would be more easily distracted but otherwise I don’t think it is noticeable by others when I’m in my low because I keep most of it in my head.
• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
I think I do daydream often, but I am not sure. I think I can easily attach to reality if I focus on it, however otherwise I think I focus on imagining things. I am definitely not aware of my surroundings if I daydream, how can I be?
• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
“Why am I in a blank, empty room?” I would definitely think that, but ignoring that, I would just think about the same things I do before, like thinking a lot about stuff I’ve read or I am very into.
• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I’m indecisive so usually when I make an important decision I think about it a lot so it might take a long time. I do doubt my decision but not enough to change my mind. I will worry about it but I will not change my mind just then. Sometimes I get tired of thinking about it and decide to just choose whatever option I feel is best, and I will definitely regret that because I end up realizing in the long term how terrible it is.
• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
I understand how I feel about things but sometimes it takes a while. I am not sure of a specific circumstance, but sometimes I don’t understand why I am feeling this emotion and take a few minutes to think about it before I understand it. But emotions are definitely important to me as my own emotions help me make decisions.
• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
I do this most of the time because I don’t want to argue and find it tiring, also I don’t like seeming rude. If it’s an idea that has nothing personal related to it I can most definitely disagree though, for example something that has to do with facts and logic, but if it’s connected to them and their values I definitely would just agree because it feels rude for me not to.
• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
I don’t break rules at all. I try to check too much that I’m not breaking rules if I’m not used to where I am because it scares me to accidentally do so. I don’t want to get in trouble for not doing so. However I don’t think authority should be automatically challenged or they automatically know better, I think it depends on who the authority is. Mostly I think that the actions and rules they make should be considered first and why they added that rule. Therefore I don’t think you can just simply challenge all of them or think all of them know better.

2024.05.19 03:36 thiccst0ner advice for negotiations

We are currently negotiating an offer on a house. We originally really liked it but since our inspection, receiving well water test results and sitting with the decision, we were ready to terminate the contract and move on. The well water came back with high levels of arsenic requiring installing a whole filtration system. We felt it would all be too much work as first time homeowners, but now the seller wants to negotiate with us.
They have offered to hook the house up to city water (which is available on the road) and take $10,000 off for the roof as well as “any other credits”.
Some things we would be looking for credits on, based on the inspection, include: - Electrical: breaker panel needs some switches replaced, total of 7 outlets need to be swapped up for gfci - Plumbing: small inside and outside leaks on faucets, one wobbly toilet - Skylight seal broken and may need replacing - New hot water heater - Trimming branches near power lines - Deck installed without permit (not up to code but stable for the time being) - New garage door and motor - New handrails on 2 indoor, 1 outdoor staircases - New smoke detectors - New window screens - Siding is in overall okay shape but some are loose, and the trim was clearly DIY’d
We tried to estimate everything to the best of our ability (without getting actual quotes) and came up to about $30k in additional credits. Not to mention the house is a bit of a fixer upper and we’d be doing basically a whole kitchen renovation, replacing the flooring in one room and the hardwood on the staircase. (We do have a bit of savings to cover the cost of this kitchen & flooring.)
To summarize, asking price was $335k, we originally offered $385k contingent on inspection. Now they are offering to hook us up to city water, take $10k off the roof and “any other credits” which we are roughly estimating to be $30k. We would like to ask them to pay closing costs too. Final offer after all credits including roof would be $345k, which is still $10k above asking.
We are worried our counter offer will be too “sharky”especially in this market. We really like the area and location but it does need quite a bit of work so we want to get the best deal we can, obviously. This is a super competitive market and want to make the best decision. Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

2024.05.19 03:32 qwerty11111122 Paper Paladin: The Demon Seed's Brother in Light in its Shadow

While [[Mass Production]] is having its day in the sun (in a warehouse), I've decided to see if the new Holy synergy giant can pull its weight, and what better deck to accommodate it than Libram Paladin! This is also a 40 card version, hence I call it paper paladin!
Abstract: Using the tutors in the deck, play a number of small minions and Librams of Wisdom to control the board in the early game. On the power turn, drop a number of reduced-cost, high stat minions along either a loatheb or Rebuke. On the next turn, drop a Liadrin or another instant damage card such as Holy glowstick to the face.
Strengths: Good into spell-heavy decks, Super fun to play
Weaknesses: Early aggression without Broom or Glowsticks, Silence, Shaman (devolve)

Early game: You're looking for draw. Small-Time Recruits, Crystology, Knight of Anointment, Hi Ho Silverwing. Sort of in that order. You need to drop both Aldor Attendants to have the best chance in the midgame. There are times you might need to tempo out a broom just to kill off a dangerous minion.
Midgame: You should have a libram of wisdom that ideally costs (1) or less. It's not time to push yet. Play Librams to trade well and up your cast spell count. Your first push in the game will likely be either plopping a lightray, Devout Pupil or the first half flickering lightbot (and maybe second). These pushes should give you room to throw down cards like The Voraxx and Kotori Lightblade to copy your wisdoms and increase your lead, or if behind, make neat rushing turns that might require some thought to navigate.
I think this is the key to this deck is the midgame. The power of this deck comes from many small buffs on your minions and a lot of mana manipulation, which means that there are a lot of decisions to optimize and that those decisions aren't usually easy to optimize either. A value trade that preserves a low health minion might not be as good as a a full trade that lets you play another libram that lets you eek out a giant or two. Or preserving the Glowstick vs killing a Toy Boat. Spending all your Librams on a single Hi Ho to make your opponent kill it and give you draw, or give your other minions the buffs so that Hi Ho isn't the target of a silence or other no-DR removal.
Late Game: Kinda boring. Big minions, Loatheb or Rebuke, smack them in the face next turn. If that didn't work, play a myrmidon to draw 5 cards and try it again.
ETC: Dance floor for more rushing turns, since this is a board deck. Lynessa for libram generation redundancy. Small-Time Recruits because having two of these in the deck is backbreaking when you draw both crystologies too.
Zilliax 3000: I don't think I've seen this form of zilliax featured prominently, it's "Costs (1) less per minion and doubles attack at the start of the turn." Power and Ticking module. My thought is that the power turn involves playing big minions, maybe rushing them into another full board and then waiting until next turn. So the plan would be to play a cheap Zilliax with some librams and be able to double the buffs when it's time to go face. I've only had it happen twice so far lol

2024.05.19 03:18 prisonbison San Diego wedding budget for 100 guests

We are getting married in San Diego next year, and I am hoping to learn more about what to expect in terms of planning and costs. I will admit that I know practically nothing about the wedding industry. I am hoping that those who have recently held weddings in Southern California (ideally in San Diego) can let me know if the prices I am estimating are currently accurate. I have reached out to several vendors in each category, and have a total cost estimate of $65,900.
We are planning to invite about 100 guests, mostly adults with perhaps a few children attending.
The venue will be Darlington House in La Jolla, San Diego. Darlington House only allows catering from an approved list of vendors, so that limits our options.
But if there are any tips/tricks/areas where we could save that stand out, please let me know!
Name Cost Description
Venue $8000 8 hour total, reception and ceremony, and $800 extra fee to take photos in certain areas
Valet Parking $2000 The venue does not include guest parking

Flowers $5200 Bud vases at each table, bridal boquet, bridesmaid flowers, ground flowers for ceremony
Food $12500 Plated catering for 100 guests. BYOB alcohol and 2 bartenders.
Alcohol $2500 Caterer provides BYOB service and bartender, we provide beewine/spirits for signature cocktails. Estimating that guests will drink roughly 7 drinks per person so 700 total drinks

2024.05.19 02:47 JBuchan1988 Shrek 2024 tour review ***SPOILERS***

Quick summary: yes, it's cheap but heart and talent seemingly come cheap. My full review v
I've heard plenty about this non-equity Shrek tour, albeit AFTER I bought tickets because I saw the advertisement in my theater. I thought about getting a refund in the weeks before the show but in every review, I heard praise for the cast. Also, I've loved this musical for a while so I decided to take a risk and went today.
It was WELL worth it :D
To address the dragon in the room, yes, it's clear the budget wasn't high. If nothing else I say will convince you to try this show at the prices they're asking, you won't hurt my feelings finding another thread. I'll be clear that I hate that the cast and crew don't get pay much in a non-equity performance.
That said, the art direction was nice. I consider it akin to the 1st Toy Story, where the CGI is dated but the art direction still makes it nice to look at (not to mention the story and acting ;) ). There wasn't much in sets but what was there were nice, storybook-like structures and hangings. Nothing like Broadway's but the designers did what they could and succeeded.
I won't defend the Shrek make-up. I could see the edge of the bald cap from my seat (row P, orchestra section) while I can barely see the mesh ear holes in the proshot. That said, I do like the tour Shrek's proportions better; while it looked cool, I thought Broadway covered Brian d'Arcy James in too much padding and latex to make him look like the animated Shrek. You just need a bald head and the ears; Shrek's pretty distinctive :)
On that note, if you're not going with puppetry, it's hard to depict a lot of the characters in Shrek. The Broadway costumes DO look a lost better but the tour costumes did a good job to suggest their characters. Not exactly Tony-winning or Broadway caliber but serviceable (if I had unlimited power for a Shrek revival, comparisons to The Lion King would be apt; not a complete copy of LK's style but certainly puppet heavy like it).
Really, the only bad thing I can say about the tour is that there were a few moments where a cast member's mic isn't turned on in time for a lyric/line. That was annoying, especially during adult Fiona's big intro in "I Know It's Today." Otherwise, there were only a few moments where the mixing was off but it was overall good (and I don't think my theater has the best acoustics).
Now for the unabashedly good :D
The cast was phenomenal. If they agreed with this subreddit that the production was cheap, they didn't let that affect their performance (or it did and they worked harder to compensate). In particular, Nicholas Hambruch, Cecily Dionne Davis, and Naphtali Yaakov Curry as the main trio (Shrek, Fiona, & Donkey respectively) were excellent and up there with both their Broadway and animated counterparts (and the 1st tour that came years ago to the same theater, even if I don't remember their names). Everyone else was excellent. They sang, danced, and acted to the T and deserved every applause and laugh they got. I can't say enough.
Music was good. The six-person band did the show good (not sure if there were prerecorded tracks to make the music fuller). I didn't re-listen to the cast album as I like going to shows as fresh as I can so I can't judge between Broadway and tour arrangements but the tour did the score good.
It's also fun to see how the show evolved from the original version and proshot.
To those use "woke" the same way most people use "f", "s", or "autotune", the changes would drive them crazy. Quite frankly, the changes fit the show and does not hurt it. Heck, you'd only notice them if you're familiar with the proshot and cast album.
The most noticeable is that Farquaad is no longer short and the short jokes are gone. Turns out, Farquaad is still a campy, prima donna that's a hilarious parody of a typical dashing, brave prince. We lose his second song in favor of a brief reprise of "What's Up, Duloc" and his back story that's revealed there. I do miss it and the depth it gave him (even if it turned out to be bull-squirt at the end) but the show isn't really hurt by it.
Also, some songs have preludes with the ensemble acting as narrators/Greek chorus (I enjoy the fact that Shrek is the type of franchise where I have to clarify that I don't mean LITERALLY a Greek chorus :D). Doesn't really add much to the show but not bad changes. Them holding scenic elements does make some moments funnier, particularly the forest animals in "Morning Person" and flowers in "I Think I Got You Beat." The puppets used for the kid versions of Shrek and Fiona were pretty good too (and understandable if they're keeping costs down).
There's 2 lyric changes that I noticed (might be more but I'm not remembering) that were just as good as the original and only stood out because I've heard the cast album so many times. One is that the wolf is not called a hot & tranny mess but now mocked for his fashion sense dressing like a grandma. The other (I remember) is Shrek no longer calls Fiona fat during "When Words Fail" but gets flustered mentioning love. Like I said, more inclusive yet still keeping in spirit with the show.
A major change that I ADORE, and I'm not ashamed to admit it, is Shrek's participation in the "Freak Flag." Broadway's Shrek-less version isn't bad and I do miss "Build A Wall" but Shrek being a part of it means he gets to share in the fairytale creatures' epiphany of accepting yourself. Granted, the subtle approach of the film and Broadway production worked just as well but, if you're gonna make a big showstopper song out of the moral, it works really well including the main character.
We do lose "Don't Let Me Go" and "This Is How A Dream Comes True." It IS a little disappointing but, in fairness, I didn't realize until writing this review that "Don't Let Me Go" was missing and the reprise of "I Know It's Today" isn't a bad replacement (although I do wish "This Is How A Dream Comes True" was kept).
Also no "I'm A Believer" but, again, the tour's budget likely precluded it (being a song not written for the show and only ever used after the curtain call).
In summary, no, I can't defend paying normal tour prices for the less than Broadway/high school production value. However, if you can afford it, you get a production that keeps the Broadway production's heart and humor with updates that doesn't fundamentally change the show's DNA. I know it's disappointing Shrek isn't getting the budget it deserves but this tour proves Shrek is a strong enough show to survive a low budget with good actors/singers.
That said, at least the Broadway version exists as a proshot if my review wasn't persuasive :)
(Added some pics. Im not always comfortable posting my face online so please excuse the edits to my selfies. I think they improvements :P ;). The last 2 pics are of my souvenirs; I like magnets and the pen, a floating pen starring Donkey is cute :D)

2024.05.19 02:47 JuggernautPast2744 bathtub drain repair

Had a leak in our bathtub drain. Bath is on 2nd floor. cut a hole for access from the next room and almost succeeded in removal. The drain and overflow is all brass, and I bought a replacement kit that appears to have all needed parts. I am stuck at the point in this photo. The exposed pipe end has what appears to be a short section of brass (could be copper) that is sleeved into a just larger section of copper, that is soldered? inside a heavy copper s-trap. The trap connects behind the stud on the left to that 3" drain line that crosses back under the tub to the main stack on the right. The pipe is 8 " inside the hole, and the hole is only about 8" wide. I can't go wider due to the stud on one side and a cast iron plumbing stack on the other
The kit i have includes a brass section that is exactly the same size as that broken off piece so it would slip into that short copper section if I could remove the old piece. I don't understand how it was put together, it seems like it would be a slip joint with a compression fitting, but there's no nut or ferrule. the corrosion makes it hard to see details of the joint. I hit it with some heat and did not see any solder and still couldn't move it, but you can see the water is right there, so that may have interfered.
I have been unable to remove it due to corrosion and limited access. I can only just get a wrench on it, or grab the protruding edge with some pliers, but movement is limited. Further access requires a demo of our bathroom (removal of the cast iron tub) or cutting through a lath and plaster ceiling in our foyer. That ceiling might also be plaster over metal lathe over plaster over wooden lathe. (that is how it is in the dining room). Bathroom demo woudl probably be a better option. What should I try next?
Continue to try to remove that corroded section? How? This exact issue already came up with the short section from the tub drain, it broke off in the vertical section from the overflow, which prevented replacing just that drain piece. I had to pull the whole kit out and that got me here with another broken off piece.
Desolder the short copper section from the copper trap? I think it's copper anyway, I really don't know. I worry if I remove another piece, the next one will be broken too... I know that's how it is sometimes, but damn...
Any other suggestions?

2024.05.19 01:45 Nayruna Really need advice on cat behavior - resident cat still bullying new kitten

I had my resident cat Ivy for 6 months, she was a sweet affectionate very happy girl, she was previously a backyard breeders queen (fuck that) and has had at least two litters of kittens that I know of before I got her.
I wanted her to have some company for when we are out/busy and generally just for her wellbeing, contacted the shelter I got her from and asked if they had any cats that matched her personality - all adults (male, as I was advised a younger, smaller male would be better, don't know how much I believe this as all accounts I can find online are pretty evenly split between gender does matter, and doesn't) but anyway, they told me that one of their kittens would be a good match as all the older males were already being rehomed.
So we brought home a little boy, we followed everything correctly, separated in rooms behind a bug screen, fed them together and played, ivy seemed interested even though she grumbled and hissed, understandable since her territory was being invaded.
After two weeks we let them mix, seemed fine, she was unhappy with it and would hiss but nothing worrying.
After a routine vet check up for the kitten we found out they were actually female and thus un-spayed (spay appt incoming)
After a month, the kitten is displaying food aggression, probably from being in the shelter, she swats at Ivy as I am preparing meals for them, I have started to feed them separately, they previouly ate next to each other totally fine though, I just want to avoid the aggression prior to it as it probably won't help Ivys attitude.
Ivy however now has started to really bully her (Willow) especially around a scratching board bed I got them, she will chase Willow and get her on her back if she sits on it, I bought a second one and it still does nothing.
Sometimes she goes for Willow when she's not looking, when willow is just cleaning herself, she chases her under the TV unit and poor Willow just stays there. There have been no actual fights yet that I am aware of? But at night Ivy is especially horrible to her, if I am not present in the evening then she will keep her locked under that unit.
It's making me very very depressed as ivy is getting told off by me every evening, I clap to try break her out of her black eyes wiggling butt I'm gonna charge at this tiny cat and fuck them up when she doesn't stop I do the raised voice ah ah ah ah ah, and a firm IVY NO when she ignores that. She slinks away unhappy and it's physically hurting me thinking I've made her unhappy or scared of me, she's definitely not as affectionate with me as she was.
I play with them both, they have supervised outdoor time in our safe back garden (ivy still chases her around) and I'm just at a loss.
I know it's only been a month, and it takes time to adjust, it are there any tips people can give me to calm aggression and bullying
  1. I have Feliway diffusers
  2. They play and eat together, puzzles balls and puzzle boards with treats.
  3. I leave bird TV on for them when I leave for work before my partner wakes up and at night
  4. Willow isn't really very affectionate, only when she wants it and never any other time, she just always wants to play and run around
  5. They sleep together downstairs instead of upstairs with us, before Willow, ivy would sleep on our bed every night, SOMETIMES I wake up and they are both there but mostly they choose to sleep in the same room away from us which I find so odd, like why does Willow choose to sleep with Ivy and not us when Ivy is horrible to her lol.
Do I let this happen? Is intervening bad? On one hand I know a pecking order must be established, but on the other does not letting a ivy know the bullying is bad mean she will never stop and Willow will always be unhappy?

2024.05.19 01:35 Mindless-Coffee541 2 People (22M & 22F) Looking for 2 Rooms to Rent Starting July Near the UCSF Campuses

Hi all, both of us are looking for a month-to-month (at least with some flexibility with leasing options) living situation near either of the UCSF campuses. I'll (22M) be moving into the city the first week of July (originally a San Diego resident) and the other (22F) will be finishing her other lease the same time (we're looking to move within the first week of July). I will be attending a trade school and doing part-time work while the other works all day on campus. We're clean, tidy, communicative, respectful, and always make our end of all payments. Preferably having furnished rooms, access to laundry, a kitchen, and a budget <$1,300 per person maximum. Access to a backyard, good lighting, and having awesome roommates to hang out with are absolute pluses.
Seeing how difficult of a request this is, if you can only take one person at a time (especially with the qualities mentioned above), let me know and one of us can move in. Personally, I am open to options in the Sunset District/Outer Sunset and Chinatown areas. I at least need a place to stay until March but I'll have the opportunity to stay much longer, and the other roommate will need at least a year there.
We mainly want to explore the area and outdoors, meet people, and experience the thrill of the city. A place where we can eat, exist, and sleep safely are our ultimate basic needs. PM me and I can share more information as needed (even for sharing advice too)!

2024.05.19 01:13 kqsk3t AITAH for wanting to go no contact with my dad and by extension my mom because of their toxic relationship?

I (18F) have always known my dad (53M) wasn’t the most healthy person in the world. For some context on my family and to make sure it’s a whole picture i’m basically going to trauma dump, so TW for sexual assault i guess? When i was two he and my mom(48F) got a divorce because he was using drugs and alcohol to cope with some of his past traumas, while never putting in any work to get past them. After the divorce he ended up being put in prison after receiving multiple DUI’s (im not entirely sure how it happened exactly, i was two or three when he was locked up) and it got him locked up till I was six. My mom, despite having every reason to speak badly of my father, never said anything negative about him. She would take me to visit him, let me read the letters he sent me (when i actually could read, and she would write my replies down for me), and always let me talk to him when he called. We lived with my grandparents while he was locked up. After he got out he spent a long time working to get past his unhealthy coping mechanisms. He lives with his parents for two years and i would visit often. When i was eight he finally had a stable enough job to have both me and my mother move back in with him. I was young, and stupid, and when they asked me if i was okay with it I said yes. We moved into a single wide mobile home in my dad’s home town. My entire life was uprooted and replanted. I began classes in my new school and was bullied for most of my time there. I was told to “suck it up, bullies aren’t that bad.” even though in middle school i was pushed down a very steep flight of stairs and almost broke my arm. My grades began slipping and i went from a gifted child to a burn out really quick. My dad would yell at me and my mom for my grades, then get mad when i couldn’t understand how explained something to me. By thirteen i was suicidal and it was “an attempt to get attention” according to my dad. He had begun to pick fights with my mom over the littlest things. The house wasn’t clean enough, she didn’t make dinner fast enough, my room was a mess. (it was the size of a medium sized walk in closet.) And then my older (half) brother moved in with us. He (32M, let’s call him Michael) had never had a stable life and my dad coddled him because he felt like he had failed him. He had, but Michael was always a screwed up dude, so it only added into it. Anyways, over the course of the next three years my older brother would come to sexually assault me about five times over the next three years. We ended up moving into a larger house when i was about fifteen and i ended up going into counseling and learning that i had been groomed and conditioned to be basically unaware of the trauma inflicted on my by my brother since i was a kid. My dad, when i was seven and my brother a teenager, would turn a blind eye to Michael basically bashing my head into the island counter whenever he would steal something like food from me. My grandparents would always intervene and he would call me a whiner. At night he would tell me all sorts of things and make it seem like he was my only friend in the world. He kept doing it my entire life. My father, who had stopped drinking, had begun again because my grandfather was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and has been fighting for him life since, it’s been about eight years i think since they had to pull him out of remission because the cancer came back. This is when he really became a nightmare. Depending on what type of alchohol he drinks his mood goes a few ways. Whiskey and he gets angry. Tequila and he gets all sappy and lovey dovey(this makes me very uncomfortable because he hasn’t ever been very openly affectionate), beer and he’s just a happy drunk, and wine and he gets sad. Sometimes it switches up but normally this is how it goes. After i finally told my parents about my brother and what he had done and him getting kicked out, he began to bury himself in alcohol. I had to get over it fast because he was blaming anyone within pissing distance. Eventually he would cry to me about how he had failed him son, to the daughter that his son had raped. it was really fucked up, and he only ever said that when he was drunk. (I want to say that my dad isn’t an inherently terrible person, he didn’t have a good life growing up and generational trauma hits hard.)He has been using drinking as a way to escape reality for a long time. It’s caused a great deal of arguments and both of my parents asking “what they do to deserve this” while my dad accuses me of treating him like garbage (he says the same thing to my mom). We’ve had to leave the house and spend a few days with other people before because i was scared he was going to hit us instead of the walls next time, multiple times. The most recent bought of fighting has been happening over the last three days. (for more context i moved out right after i turned eighteen, i became a manager at my workplace and was able to live with friends) I’ve been visiting my family and spending time with them since i haven’t really had time the past few months. I guess my mom found out that he had been receiving nudes from other women on messenger and wanted AT LEAST an apology. My dad blamed it on a married friend who was using his phone. it was a lie because he’s been receiving them almost every day. and commenting on them. it makes me sick to think about. he has begun blaming my mom for it. saying she ruined our old house, that she has to one up him, and saying “do you really wanna go there?” while he was the one who fucked up. After screaming at each other for nearly an hour he said he wanted to break up. My mom spiraled and wanted to kill herself. Her psychiatrist that she had a tele-health call with that day, asked me to basically watch my mom to make sure she doesn’t kill herself. I took her pills and asked my dad to lock up his guns. he took this as her “one -upping him”. Yesterday while i was back at my apartment i got a call from my mom explaining that he had gotten drunk and had told her to kill herself. She had left and was at a bridge to watch the water. I drove back in a panic since i live a town over. Today, my father was drunk again and asked me to go spend time alone so he could screw my mom. I didn’t want to be there so i showered and got ready to leave. Turns out their conversation had shifted and he was berating her for “not letting him discipline me”. I guess that after years of pent up anger never being touched on, i finally snapped and began yelling at him. I called him a hypocrite and he called me a bitch. And basically i left as he began to destroy things around the house. That was after i told him if he kept going this way i would cut contact. I’m currently sitting at our outdoor sports complex writing this because everyone i know is busy and i don’t want to bother them. I just needed to get it out. I don’t know if cutting contact is the right thing to do. Of if it makes me an asshole. I’m only eighteen. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Crack Addict
From the day I brought Autumn Love home she's shown her addict tendencies with catnip. She jumped in the cat carrier that had a catnip toy in it from my outdoor cat bobtail cat at my mom's. Then a few weeks later I bought a homemade catnip toy with the intention of storing it for Valentine's Day. While I'm in the bathroom she found it and was rolling around the living room licking it. I've become this cat's drug mule, always carrying her new catnip toys in my purse when I buy them because she sniffs them out.

2024.05.19 00:48 R_burns I believe this is the longest joke that exists; if anyone knows of a longer joke feel free to correct me. You have been warned, I hope you enjoy!

The Note.
One day there was a boy walking to school who found a note on the ground. But the boy was young and had not yet learned how to read, so he picked it up and took it to school. The boy showed the note to his teacher and asked "Teacher teacher I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read, what does it say?" The boy hands the teacher the note, and the teacher reads it. The teacher yells at the boy "HOW DARE YOU SHOW THIS TO ME, TAKE THIS NOTE TO THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE!"
So the boy takes the note and goes to the principal's office and meets the principal there. The principal asks the boy "Why are you here?" The boy tells him "Well Mr. Principal I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read! So I brought the note to school and I showed it to my teacher and asked her to read it! When she read it she yelled at me to go straight to the principal's office so here I am!" The principal says "Well this must be some note, let me see it. The boy hands the principal the note, and the principal reads it. The principal yells at the boy "HOW DARE YOU, GET OUT OF MY OFFICE. YOU'RE EXPELLED, GO HOME AND DO NOT COME BACK TO THIS SCHOOL."
So the boy takes the note and walks back home. Once he walks inside his mother is there cleaning up a bit. Mother is of course surprised to see the boy in the middle of a school day! The boy's mother asks him "Why are you home so early?" The boy tells her "Well mother I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read! So I brought the note to school and I showed it to my teacher and asked her to read it! When she read it she yelled at me to go straight to the principal's office! So I went to the principal's office and showed him the note! When he read it he told me I was expelled and to go straight home so here I am!" Mother is shocked to hear such a tale, and tells the boy to hand her the note. The boy hands his mother the note, and his mother reads it. The boy's mother yells at him "I CANNOT BELIEVE AFTER ALL WE HAVE TRIED TO TEACH YOU. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO YOU. YOU ARE GROUNDED, YOU GO TO YOUR ROOM AND WAIT FOR YOUR FATHER TO GET HOME FROM WORK."
So the boy takes the note and goes to his room, and waits for his father to get home from work. The boy's father goes into his room, and asks him why he has been grounded. The boy tells him "Well father I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read! So I brought the note to school and I showed it to my teacher and asked her to read it! When she read it she yelled at me to go straight to the principal's office! So I went to the principal's office and showed him the note! When he read it he told me I was expelled and to go straight home! So I went home and showed the note to mother! When she read it she told me I was grounded and to wait in my room for you to get home from work so here I am!" The boy's father begins laughing at such a tale. "What a ridiculous story son. Let me see this note so we can laugh at it together." The boy hands his father the note, and he reads it. The boy's father stops laughing, and disgust and anger takes hold of him. The boy's father yells at him "YOU ARE NO SON OF MINE. WHAT YOU HAVE DONE HERE IS UNACCEPTABLE AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN FOR THIS. YOU ARE GROUNDED BUT NOT HERE IN YOUR ROOM, GO INTO THE BASEMENT AND DON'T COME OUT!"
So the boy takes the note and goes into the basement.
25 years go by...
The boy emerges from the basement to find his family has long since left. A man and woman he does not recognize are sitting at the table, and are quite surprised to see the boy emerge from their basement! The man stands up and demands to know why the boy is in his home. The boy says "Well sir I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read! So I brought the note to school and I showed it to my teacher and asked her to read it! When she read it she yelled at me to go straight to the principal's office! So I went to the principal's office and showed him the note! When he read it he told me I was expelled and to go straight home! So I went home and showed the note to mother! When she read it she told me I was grounded and to wait in my room for my father to get home from work! So I went to my room and when my father came home from work, I showed him the note! When he read it he told me I was no son of his, and to go into the basement! And now 25 years have gone by and I finally have come out, so here I am!"
The man and woman look at each other and then back to the boy, hardly believing such a story. The woman's interest has been piqued however, and she tells the boy "If such a note were to exist, whatever would it say I wonder." The boy replies "I was young, I never learned to read and still don't know how! Here, read it!" The boy retrieves the yellowed, worn note and hands it to the woman, and she reads it. The woman pauses for a moment, looks to the man and then to the boy, and walks into the kitchen. The boy looks around confused, and watches as the woman returns from the kitchen. The woman yells at the boy "THIS IS YOUR FAULT. YOU DID THIS." The woman reveals a large kitchen knife and stabs the man, killing him. The woman then lunges at the boy, stabbing him in the chest. The boy falls down and watches as the woman yells at him "HOW COULD YOU EVER DO SUCH A THING" before stabbing herself, and dying. The boy crawls over to the woman, and clutches the note, as he breathes his last breath and dies.
Time passes, who can say how long...
The boy opens his eyes and begins looking around. He sees white, pearly gates, and a tall angelic figure before him. The figure speaks "Hello boy, I am St. Peter. Welcome to the Gates of Heaven. Tell me, what do you remember? You are rather young, why are you here so soon?" The boy is in disbelief, but he tells St. Peter "Well St. Peter I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read! And then 25 years went by and I finally came out, and I found a strange man and woman inside my home! When I tried to explain what had happened, the woman asked me to read the note so I gave it to her! The woman read the note and then she killed the man, me, and then herself! So here I am!" St. Peter's eyes are wide, but he approaches the boy and embraces him. "Alas, such a story and yet here you are. Allow me to read this note and free you from its burden, and you may enter the Pearly Gates." The boy hands St. Peter the note, and he reads it. Suddenly, the Pearly Gates begin to fade, and the bright angelic glow behind St. Peter changes to a shade of deep crimson. The imposing voice of St. Peter bellows out "DEFILER. SACRILEGE. YOU ARE DAMNED AND YOU SHALL LINGER IN THE HEAVENS NO LONGER. I CAST YOU OUT!"
The boy begins falling, and falling, and falling...
The boy awakens in a deep, deep pit of fire and pain. A million anguished screams pierce his eardrums, and then a million more. The boy understands, he is in Hell. A figure approaches him but before it can speak, the boy cries out "SATAN! THIS ISN'T FAIR!" Satan only laughs at him, and says "Fair? Nothing is fair. Tell me, why is it do you think you are here, and not above with St. Peter?" So the boy tells him "Well Satan I was walking to school and found this note on the ground but I don't know how to read! And then 25 years went by and I finally came out, and I found a strange man and woman inside my home! When I tried to explain what had happened, the woman asked me to read the note so I gave it to her! The woman read the note and then she killed the man, me, and then herself! Then I woke up in Heaven and St. Peter was before me! I showed St. Peter the note and he cast me out of Heaven, so here I am!" Satan laughs again. "Stupid boy, whatever could be written on a note to cause such series of events? Perhaps I myself authored this note. Give it to me so that I may read it."
The boy reaches into his pocket and retrieves the note: at this moment ancient, torn, yellowed, blackened, tattered. The boy holds the note gingerly in his hands, cradling it like a newborn butterfly, and he extends it towards Satan.
The boy is in Hell, and the heat there is so great that the note bursts into flames and is lost forever.
