2024.05.21 17:39 Electronic_Lecture43 (NY, USA) Tuition Reimbursement from employer changed the day before graduation- required to pay back tuition in full.

Hi all,
I work part time in a large hospital system in NY. I have also been going to school part time with the understanding that my employer would help cover the tuition if I worked for them for two years after graduation. Employees are allowed to choose per diem and part time status for repayment. This has been true for the entire time I’ve taken tuition.
The day before we graduated, the hospital sent an email that states all employees who took tuition must now work full time in order for the reimbursement to count. My employer does not have positions open and thus unable to provide opportunities. There are likely hundreds of us on the same boat.
What are my next steps? Do we have a case to seek counsel?

2024.05.21 17:37 Silly-Brush-6162 regrading TTP quant

Hi Everyone
I started couple of weeks ago to read through the quant section of GRE. As I am targeting for a score of 161 in quant, I went for the advanced track. I took two mock tests and I scored a 150 in quant. So I can tell from the practice questions of TTP offered in chapter tests, even the advanced track level seems to be more difficult than the actual exam.
However, I read some threads from students mentioning that they could only score 163 or 160+ after going through the expert track of the course. So, I am wondering if I should switch to expert based on these members reviews? although I can tell that the course even in advanced level is so thorough and I am already learning tons with it. Not sure though if the amount of knowledge I am learning is enough to take my score from 150 to 161 (following purely the advanced level).
I would like to hear from members who went through the ttp quant, if they followed the advanced or expert track and how much they scored and how much improvement they saw following each track. The expert level seems to add more 2 weeks or 3 to the prep time, and I am really short in time and I really don't have any extra day .. especially that I didn't touch the quant official material yet. Also, it's really not necessary for the school I am applying for to go beyond 161, as I understood that an average score like 161 will be accepted for someone with my profile.
would like to hear from your experiences!!
thanks

2024.05.21 17:37 RedPlayz01 MicroSD Card Reader only works at an angle (Nintendo Switch)

On my nintendo switch my sd card hasn't been reading for a few days and I recently checked if it was the card but it's fine so I bought a new card reader but that didn't fix it and when I tried to pull the cable out the sd card reader suddenly started working but only when at a 90 degree angle and I have tried both sd card readers and it happens on both. Any ideas?

2024.05.21 17:37 eyeloveyoureyes My crew lead got a blind pitbull that can't control its bowels. The fucking thing ate my lunch while we were working then shit all over the ground by the work truck. I'm quitting my job!

My crew lead is in the dog cult "dog nutter," and recently "adopted" an extraordinary ugly blind pitbull that has to wear a dog diaper because the disgusting creature can't control its bowels. He talked about it for days before bringing this beast into the work parking lot and expected everyone to kiss his ass because he had adopted this demonic creature. It's albino with a pink nose, has big warts and looks an overgrown demon pig. For some reason he and other people think it's okay to bring their mutts to work. They sit there and bark while we landscape and build fences. The smell of dog shit fills the air and they beg at lunchtime. I got the pleasure of finding the blind shitbull got into my backpack and ate my lunch and then shit out it's dog diaper all over the ground where we sit at lunch. He and another self-worshiping entitled dog owner bringing their mutts to work just cost them a dedicated employee.

2024.05.21 17:35 Jazzlike-Letter9897 Job interviews can be exhausting

Just had an uncomfortable job interview. Had to listen to how irresponsible and bad the low income personel and their trainees are.
I did not talk bad about them too so that might not land me the low income job I was looking for there to get my feet back into the job market slowly. Nor was I playing the therapist. Actually also lied that I totally got my bachelor instead of dropping out while working here and there with my high frequency to chronic condition.
But I was glad once it was over. It is not my business how many low income employees there are and how bad their job mentality might be.
Also screwed up the quiz question who is more irresponsible and taking the most sick days, full-time and securely established employees or those looking for part work or being a trainee there. Not playing this game, I am sick myself, I am not going to downgrade myself to make an employer feel heard and better for an instant.
Tldr: employer ranted about employees taking sick time and being irresponsible. Was glad once it was over.

2024.05.21 17:33 dsadams52 Is AS Yet Another Example of Curve Fitting?

I have been an annual subscriber to AS since April 2018. I have a lot of respect for the integrity and expertise of the individuals who run the service. That said, I am concerned that it is another exercise in curve fitting. AS has great back testing capabilities but there is very little real time performance history, and the proof is in real time performance.
I am now retired and have spent many decades trying to beat the market. I started with charting services in the in the 70s, was an early adopter of trade station developing my own models, and have paid for many trading services. I have day traded, swing traded, traded options and commodities, individual stocks and etfs, and for the past five years have used AS. I have always been adverse to buy and hold, BUT I would be much better off today If I had maintained a 60/40 portfolio during my wealth building and retirement years.
Here are my actual AS results from my primary taxable account vs benchmark:
Year Actual 60/40 2019 11.1% 21.8% 2020 18.7 16.0 2021 5.0 15.1 2022 -7.4 -16.7 2023 7.4 16.8 YTD 0.7 6.0 Ave 5 yrs 7.0 10.6
I started with a 3 strategy model with GPM as primary strategy and later moved to 5 strategy models with several “upgrades” as new strategies became available. Latest model has HAA-Bal and BAA-Agg as primaries. I put upgrades in parens as they are more robust on a back tested basis. My 2 primaries have been subject to wipsaws this year and both in negative territory, which gets me back to the curve fitting concern.
In my experience, back tested models don’t do as well going forward and often blow up. There is also an incentive to continue curve fitting as new strategies are introduced. Additionally, the portfolio optimizer is a useful tool but a form of curve fitting which can give a false sense of security regarding Max DD etc. I have heard over the years you should plan for 2X your back tested Max DD on any model.
Now that cash has a meaningful yield, I am looking at making reductions to my risk profile and perhaps a significant allocation to an efficient buy and hold portfolio tailored to my situation. Lately, I have been looking at updated arguments for not trying to beat the market. Two good authorss are Larry Swedroe and William Bernstein.
To conclude, I plan to continue using AS but am hoping to get others’ feedback and have a conversation on the difficulty of outperforming the market on a risk adjusted basis.
I should also add to their credit the AS blog and strategy reviews don’t ignore curve fitting concerns and also recommend an allocation to buy and hold, but we tend to forget these things.

2024.05.21 17:31 point03108099708slug [Serious] What are other realistic, plausible/possible scenarios that are going on, or could happen that could lead to the SHF avoiding MOASS from happening? I don’t see many people discussing anything other than the MOASS happening.

I’m not here to spread FUD or anything like that. I’m just genuinely curious what else could happen, or what else could be going on.
For example, those that saw Peruvian bull’s X post the other day where the initial number that was calculated for how much GME was being shorted was something like $300 billion. If this were true, it meant that MOASS was an absolute inevitability with undisputed proof and it was literally only a matter of time.
Either PB recalculated or someone else pointed out his error, and the figure was actually about $250 million. Still a large amount and I believe from just a small sample, not all short positions. But this was a pretty large error and gave many people the very wrong impression.
I’m just curious what else might be important pieces of information people are misinterpreting which is then being spread and either giving people incorrect assumptions for different scenarios of what will/could happen. Or what other realistic possibilities there are that people are avoiding discussing?
For example, as far as I understand it, we do not know the exact short percent in total. Is this correct? I’ve seen numbers mentioned as low and conservative as 250%, but it could well be 9,000%, or more?
I’ve also seen others claim that SHF might be able to continually kick the can down the road like they possibly just did from 2021 to now and this could drag out for another 15 years.
So I’m just looking for some even handed alternate explanations that should be discussed.
I’ve read through some of the DD and am still trying to make it through more, but it’s a lot of information and I only have so much time to dedicate to it. Plus we all make mistakes, so I would imagine it’s possible, just like with PB’s X post, that a detail or two here or there could be wrong, or might have been misinterpreted.
Or are the SHF truly fucked no matter what?

2024.05.21 17:31 to0busyf0ry0u Will never purchase from them again.

I received my laptop 2 weeks ago and with every day, my laptop gets worse and worse. I tried contacting support and instead of offering to fix it, they wanted me to jump through a bunch of hoops to fix it myself, but it's multiple things and I've done everything. Nothing has worked! I leave a review with video of the issues and they deleted it lol. A refund costs $100+ and a repair via my warranty costs $5. I have a strong feeling when I send it for repair, it will come back with the same problems. Another thing to note, when they tested it prior to shipping, they tested the system on windows 10 not the windows 11 that was installed upon receiving it?

2024.05.21 17:29 Rakxit_shetty Feels like, I'm not in the IT Team and I'm the IT Team

I didn't get to sit for college placements as I didn't have the cutoff 60% + in my PU and hence got an intership on my own in a small scale regional SaaS startup in my home town with other 3 more classmates.
when I started the company had a team of 4 developer, the day I joined i got to know that we don't maintain docs and 2 of them are on notice period and after 4 month of me joining as an intern the remaining 2 developer left as all of them got great offers.
Now the company's dev team is run by interns, me and and 3 others classmates of mine.
After the intership me and 3 other classmates got a job offer from the company and as we didn't had any other offers at hand we accept it, (role was Jr FullStack developer [MERN]).
Everyone had a in-hand salary of 23k but I was giving 26k, (I never exposed my salary to my classmates) as I had performed well as an intern.
But things got crazier with time :
I'm responsible for building the database structure for any new projects, PWA's, socket Servers, react fkups, Rest APIs, FTP Servers.
I'm responsible for answering any bugs that our clients face in the production. (We have no Testers 🤡, we test on prod)
I'm responsible for adding any new features for existing projects.
I'm responsible for code reviewing my classmates code (if they write something).
I'm responsible for understanding and unf**k the merge conflicts that my classmates have and merge their branches.
I'm responsible for deploying S3 and and E2 instance.
Recently, I was responsible for taking interview and hire new interns to the team. ( Company doesn't want to hire any experienced candidates )
After my senior left, if any change or urgent work needed, I used to do it quickly, and felt like if I handed the work to this guys it will take time so let me make room and handel it myself.
I was proactive when I started and It was noted by my classmates and the management, now I feel like they leave everything to me to handel and they only work with minnor stuff and any static page client we receive.
Even tho, I had no experience with WordPress recently I have written a custom WordPress tamplate from scratch with bootstrap within a week and deployed for one of the client, and after the deployment of the project it's moved to my classmates to change some background colours 🤡.
My classmates/ colleagues are highly demotivated on their field and I don't find any connection with them.
It's been 8 months of me joining as a FullStack dev after the intership, I feel like I'm not in the IT Team and I'm the IT Team. 🤡
In the new FY everyone got hike and the new revised salary is 26k for them and 30k for me. (No EPF or insurance is provided by the company)
I was doing DSA and leetcode everyday but recently I have stopped it because, what is the use of DSA grinding where I sent my resume everyday and get no reply. Unless I have 2+ YOE 🤝😐
I have seen my other classmates, who didn't even know what's the difference between Compilers and Interpreters have been placed in college placements in good MNCs and doing well.

2024.05.21 17:29 Warm-Raccoon-5530 Struggling with respect from supervisors and fellow CSM’s

I’ve been working as a CSM at a relatively new company. When I started out I was really excited and the team seemed great.
A few months in this all changed. I became the only CSM taking clients for months. There was a short period, when we had a ton of new contracts, where I gained over 50+ new clients while all of my coworkers were maintaining the clients they had, while not being at their “client cap”. I am also the only employee that has totally new clients vs inheriting half a client load that have been with the company for 1+ years.
This all caught up to me when I became very sick unexpectedly and had to miss several days of work. I was in the hospital. With so many new clients, the unexpected time away made me fall a little behind. Luckily I was able to get back on track in under two weeks. No clients lost, no campaigns affected.
Since then, I have been treated so poorly and honestly like I’m stupid. I was denied a raise a few months back for having questions about the new processes they implemented after I was trained with the old practices (they hadn’t updated our process docs so there was nothing to reference, so asking was the only solution). I have more credentials and experience than my coworkers and supervisors. It seems like they don’t like me at a personal level— very condescending or catty remarks made towards me all the time.
My supervisor made a comment recently that I’m finally able to work solo….which is so far from the truth. This comment was also made after getting the company multiple great reviews & training new team members. I have not experienced this with other companies and it’s causing major burnout. I have started looking for a new job, but with the intense competition, I’m assuming I will have to deal with this for a while.
Is this common in the CSM world? I just want basic respect from my coworkers and superiors.

2024.05.21 17:28 dirtynaders420 Crush on my coworker ’F30’, did I ‘M 32’ miss my opportunity or was a missing reading signs?

A little background on everything. I work at a bank so there’s only 12 employees. This new woman transferred about 3 months ago and I wasn’t interested in her at first. After a week she started coming over to my desk a few times a day with little questions or just to sit and chit chat. The chit chat quickly turned into the flirty teasing and banter between coworkers. Every time I’d walk to the printer or copier she would make eye contact and give a big smiles or a little cute look. We related being close in age while all of our other coworkers are +/- 10 years from us, her birthday is 3 days before mine both being in May. The more we talked the more I liked her but I was told by others that she did have a boyfriend. So about 2 months ago I helped her open a new account and as I’m opening the account we’re talking, I tell her this I am diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, I have a son that’s 2 and half, and that me and his mother broke up a few years ago. Fast forward about a week later she tells me she’s going to a walk that benefits my disease and asked if I would want to attend or if I think any of our coworkers would be interested as a group. I told her I wouldn’t expect people to go to a walk for me but I may be interested and I would let her know. A week later she ask about my plans for the weekend to which I tell her I’m with my son this weekend, and he’s always my #1 priority. About two weeks later she’s telling me about new shelves she’s getting and installing over the weekend and that she’s probably going to be doing it herself, while just looking at me. At this point I’m thinking she’s hinting that she wants me to help her but I’m also saying that if she has a boyfriend will this be awkward, so I didn’t say anything. The following Monday I asked how were the shelves and as she’s showing me pictures she’s says she got her boyfriend to help. Now I’m thinking ok she has a boyfriend she’s probably just very nice, so I started to suppress any feelings at had. So I chose not to go the benefit walk because it would’ve felt weird with her having a boyfriend. We still had a little banter and flirting but tried to keep it professional, especially if she has a boyfriend. Since then she will still lock eyes with me as I go to the printer and give me smiles and the cute look, but when I try to talk to her there’s something wrong or she’ll look at her phone. After all this another coworker told me that she is single. This weekend was her birthday and I texted her and wished a happy birthday and we joked about her only turning 22. We’re both off for our birthdays, with mine be this week I felt like asking her to hangout but I’m not sure if it’s smart. Was there anything there or was a miss reading signs, and if there was did I miss my opportunity?
