One of the women in my guild made me a portable design tray a couple months ago. It is truly one of my favorite quilting tools now.
She duct taped a piece of cotton batting to a piece of cardboard, then taped a piece of ruler tape along the bottom.
This thing is so incredibly handy! I assemble all my blocks on it so I can easily see what they’re going to look like and keep them in order while sewing.
Whether the dogs put their paws on my table or just knock it while scratching, the pieces no longer go flying in every direction, they stay stuck to the board. #winwin
So whether you’ve got four-legged “helpers” or you just need pieces to stay put because there’s a breeze, making yourself one of these could make your piecing so much more enjoyable.

This sub was such help when I made my first quilt (a rainbow bargello for my older kid) that I thought I'd share my second quilt, made for my baby's first birthday. I used the "Dapper Aiden" pattern from Camille Roskelley. Definitely struggled to make the blocks and sashing square up... You can see one side is wonky due to my inconsistent stitching.
Yet, I'm quite pleased to have finished this. Learned a ton along the way (most importantly: don't buy cheap fabric from Bezos).

The coat's 7.75-ounce nylon fabric is treated with Rain Defender durable water-repellent finish, ensuring that I stay dry even in heavy rain. Additionally, the Wind Fighter technology effectively blocks the wind, keeping me cozy and comfortable.
One of my favorite features of this coat is the quilt-lined insulation with 100g of 3M Thinsulate, providing excellent warmth. The secure hook-and-loop right chest pocket and zipper left chest pocket are perfect for storing my essentials, while the two snap front lower pockets with side entry hand warmers keep my hands toasty. The interior hook-and-look pocket on the wearer's left side offers additional storage space.

I’ll be going on a quilt retreat in a couple of weeks. Any tips to get the most out of it? I’m a novice quilter and I’ll be going with my sister in law who is an avid quilter. Pictured is my favorite block I’ve made so far.

These shorts are only my second time sewing something self-drafted. They are a test run for some techniques and fitting for a pair of pants I want to make. I figured if I messed up with quilting cotton, I can still use the scraps in quilts! These are very scrappy, even more than they need to be for the design since I messed up some things and was working with limited fabric. I wanted a pair of long shorts and these turned out wearable so I am happy. Learned a lot, and see some adjustments to be made, so hopefully my future pants will turn out better because of these. For a while my mom did quilt classes. She designed this quilt to show how color and value will change the way the quilt looks. In it she made 1 block in 2 ways She changed the values of the fabric. It is fascinating to see just how the block changes. You will have to zoom in to see the number of the block on the bottom. The first photo is the quilt, the second photo shows the “key”

After more hours than I care to admit trying to figure out how big of a quilt I could make with the amount of fabric I have available, I finally have 21 blocks waiting to be squared and sashed (is that a word?). I need to create 3 more blocks to finish the row but I'm feeling really good about how things are going. Thank you all for your ideas and help! I'll annoy you with more photos as it gets further along. I do have a question: what batting do y'all recommend for baby quilts? I've used cotton previously but I'm not sure it's the softest batting out there.
(Also this isn't the final layout, I'm still trying to figure that out)
