I'm a 30-year-old introvert who enjoys the quieter moments, but I also have a sense of adventure. I'm into traveling abroad, hiking through beautiful landscapes, and exploring new places. I have a short social battery, so I tend to recharge with some downtime, but with the right person, I can be a great companion. Ultimately, I'm looking for something serious and long-term. I would like to have kids someday and dream of building a home in a remote mountainous area where I can enjoy nature and peace.
I'm 5'11" with an average build, and I hit the gym regularly to stay in shape. I work full-time and also study part-time and recently have setup a business so I keep pretty busy. When I do find some free time, I like playing video games, especially puzzle-solving ones, and I also enjoy coding. I’m a big fan of Christopher Nolan, and my favorite movie is Memento, which I've wached so many times.
One of my favorite things to do is engage in deep conversations. I love thinking about big questions and discussing them with someone who’s equally intrigued. If you’re into that, I think we’d get along great.
I'm not into social media like Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc. If that's a big part of your life which you're also looking for in a potential partenr, I might not be the right person for you. I prefer to spend my time with people in person or through meaningful conversations over the phone or via messages.
I'm looking for someone who also enjoys deep discussions, likes adventures, and is either introverted or extroverted—it doesn't matter as long as you respect my need for occasional alone time. Ideally, you don't have kids, you don't smoke, and religion isn't a deal-breaker for you, as it's not a significant part of my life (I don't believe in God).
I'm open to a long-distance relationship but I'd like to meet in person regularly once we're both comfortable. To set expectations, I may not share a picture of myself with you until I'm comfortable with who you are.

This is more of a rant/vent than anything but feel free to give any opinions or advice on the matter!
So this is my first year breeding my own goats and selling kids. I am selling them once weaned and I have dairy and meat breeds. They haven’t been weaned yet so I haven’t been advertising them too much but the tire kickers and low ballers are out in full force!
I have only posted my dairy goats so far since I need better photos of the meat kids. I believe I have them very reasonably priced for the market in my area, cheaper than I have purchased any of my stock for. My main concern is making sure they go to good experienced homes to the best of my ability.
As of right now I have only had one person ask me a bunch of questions and then left me on read when they asked for pricing (after I already told them I didn’t have exactly what they were looking for, moon spotted bucks, but they asked about the ones I do have). Then I had a person ask me for info, and responded “thanks” never to be heard from again. Now, one person just messaged me asking if I would give her two goats for the price of one (which at my asking price is insanely cheap). This isn’t to mention the countless comments on posts asking for location from mostly scam accounts.
I’m starting to get worried that I’ll never find homes for these babies! I want them to go to the best homes possible. I know I’m probably just being dramatic but it’s my first time so I’m trying not to panic 😅

2024.05.22 00:25 bulbasauric Was anyone else wildly frustrated by this movie?

Just out of The Strangers: Chapter 1, and I either need validation/vindication, or to be convinced that I'm wrong (and I'm open to that, by all means).

I'd avoided delving too deep into any backstory of this film. Initially I'd thought this was going to be a prequel-series of films, given how Prey at Night ended (two killers dead, one almost certainly dead). So I went in with my back up, as you always should with a horror prequel, or indeed series - what's the actual risk to the villains if they'll allegedly appear in the future (be that the in-universe future, or a future film)?
Within the first few minutes, our lead lady is using a smartphone/Google Maps, and shortly thereafter an AirBNB is mentioned. So we're in present-day, and it's not a prequel - that's fine.
Once we meet The Strangers, The Man in the Mask showed no burns or signs of injury from the previous film, and is wearing significantly different clothing than he usually would. Pin Up Girl and Dollface were hella dead by the end of that film. With all of this said, I'm to believe we have a new trio of killers donning the masks, right? Great.
And yet, it all felt wasted. Nothing new, nothing interesting happened.
Our lead characters were not especially likeable. The dialogue in the car was pretty forced and expository, and they just felt very generic. They looked great and I've no problem with the actors, but feel they weren't given much to do.
In fact, nobody is very likeable in this film. The okayest-character was the girl in the diner who gave them a lift to the house, and even that was probably part of the killers' setup.
Everyone in town... was just downright awful, for no apparent reason. Sneering because the central couple come from the city. Literally making multiple "Huh, she's a VEGETARIAN?" jokes - seriously, was this film written in 2002 and mildly modernized, or something? What the hell are we doing here?!
Our lead characters were also just not smart. Examples:

Maya is alone in the house. A stranger has come knocking (twice), refusing to elaborate on their intentions. She smokes a joint and takes a shower to relax, while still alone. The power is cut, she meets an unknown individual in the hallway, and runs upstairs to hide in a closet. Then, because she smoked the joint, Ryan convinces her she may have imagined it. She also leaves her phone down (I honestly don't remember what became of it after she asks "Where the fuck is mine?").
Ryan shoots the goddamn owner of the house, not caring that he wasn't wearing a mask - pointless callback to the first film where the lead man accidentally shoots his friend, btw - and then doesn't shoot Pin-Up girl in the forest when he has her at point-blank range. Why do people never shoot people in the feet/knees? They (probably) won't die, and they'll know you're not fucking around. But no, plenty of time for a dude to come knock you out with the butt of an axe.
The truck-ramming scene was incredibly forced, and annoyingly danced around dad-truck-murder scene in Prey at Night. Both characters sucked here (he checked the front and back seats, but not the very back of the jeep - I was surprised they didn't have one of the killers climb over the seats).

As I watched, I thought "Okay, chill - it's not as if they know they're in a horror movie. People get jittery and make mistakes when under duress". But I think nowadays, horror movies in general have just surpassed this kinda stuff. They don't - shouldn't - get a free pass for characters being outright stupid, just to make plot happen. Especially when they're the ONLY characters we're following for the whole film. If you wanna introduce a dopey hyuck friend for some death fodder, go right ahead. But it's asking a bit too much nowadays to root for a character who makes stupid choices for just no good reason.
I'm no expert, but I do love my horror movies, and after the direction Prey at Night took, I just expected... more. This was very much a paint-by-numbers horror movie, and it really did come off as a weak copy of the first film. The fact that Maya survives was.. something different. But now it means we'll be following her through the next film. I find this more worrying than interesting, because it may mean there's going to be some contrived revenge plot, when really I want to see more of the killers, and I want to see them get killed.
There are just few things more frustrating than a film series providing more questions and no answers, all in the name of cranking out more of them. All we know - all we can suppose - is that there are three new people wearing these masks. That's all. And for the third film in a franchise - whether it's starting its own story arc or not - that's not good enough for me.

i tend to attract only bisexual women and i don’t judge women based on their sexuality or anyone for that matter. my question is, why are they so hard to keep interested?? i am trying to put in effort with one right now because it seems like an expectation, but she’s doing this weird indirect talking thing that just doesn’t work for me. this includes me posting a song i like to my instagram notes and her posting a thirst trap to it the next day. on top of that, it’s her sending me a song or a text and telling me it reminds her of me and then falling off the face of the earth for a week. the other day, she was really targeting a bunch of spam posts to me and i wasn’t a fan of that. i wanted her to just tell me she was free and i would’ve planned something. i am not going to act on an assumption that someone is trying to get my attention because i’m pretty direct. most girls know this ahead of time because i literally sit there like an idiot until they look me in the eye and say “hey, i like you”. i just don’t get it. i’ll admit, i’ve been non committal because men have traumatized me, but i’m trying to show interest in her. if i match her energy, she suddenly shows less interest. i know this relationship is not going to work out and at this point, i’m losing any feelings i’ve had for her because there has been no clear definition of what she wants.
this has been a consistent issue with my dating life and that’s the part that gets me. i find a girl, i like her, suddenly we are talking, and right away she drops off the earth. either getting a boyfriend or just quits showing interest. i’ve been told before that it’s because i have so much going on, or i’m too ambitious and put to much effort into school and work. i will admit, i am a driver and i don’t slow down and making time for anyone is hard. i do wonder if me saying i have finals or things due that i can’t put off has driven her away. i just don’t see the point in brushing off school to go out with someone who is unsure about me. if you aren’t going to be in my life forever, you don’t come over my education.
i just don’t know if this is a me problem or not. i’m going through the post situationship grief right now of thinking i’ll never find a girlfriend, but i know it will pass soon enough too. am i just looking at the wrong girls? my roommates say i should wait until i find someone who is also in college and honestly, i couldn’t agree more. i just want to know if i’m doing something wrong. maybe i’m not prioritizing things properly? idk

Apparently, I have a rather unique situation and TurboTax is making it quite confusing.
My community college tuition is paid for by federal Pell Grant money. For both 2022 and 2023, I got awarded more than was needed for tuition, so I was "refunded" the difference which dispersed via direct deposit to my checking account. For both 2022 and 2023, I did not know that this "difference" was supposed to be reported as taxable income on my taxes. I wish to amend both of those years.
I've tried using TurboTax which is what I used to submit my taxes in the first place, but from the beginning they were never clear about situations involving educational expenses and scholarships.
For my 2022 return, I had to explicitly download TurboTax 2022 software. Under the "education credits" section, I was able to first enter education expenses for the year ($1905), and then amount of scholarships/grants that I "received" ($4086). TurboTax calculated that I would owe $258 Federal tax and $122 state tax... okay, cool. Only thing that is unclear is - does it mean the total aid award amount before covering expenses, or does it mean the total amount I received in my checking account after expenses were covered? If it's the amount I received, I would instead enter $2181 in that field, but then the amounts I owe drop drastically - $30 Fed and $14 state. Why are they far less than half of the original numbers?
Even more confusing - the next question is "Did Your Aid Include Amounts Not Awarded for 2022 Expenses?" and I interpret that as "was there leftover money which did not cover tuition that you received?" But after answering "yes" to the question and filling out how much I received as a refund ($2181), considering $4086 in grant money, the amount of tax I would owe dropped down to $0 all around. However, if I answer no to that question and I say that I used grant money to pay for room and board (which is what the TurboTax website says to do from the get-go when filing a 1040) and I enter the same amount of $2181 in that field, Fed and state stay at $258 and $122 respectively. Which is it?!
The 2023 return amendment with TurboTax won't even let me continue without upgrading to a paid subscription! Apparently the free edition won't let me "access all the forms I need." So I haven't even gotten this far with 2023.
Should I give up on TurboTax for this and just fill out 1040-X forms on my own? And if so, how do I enter this information? What line does it go on? Do I even need to designate that it's grant money?

Hey Reddit community,
I'm in a bit of a financial dilemma and could use some advice. Here's the situation:
My father purchased a home in cash that I have been living in and intend to own. Currently, I'm paying him what I'd like towards the "mortgage" since interest rates are bad, and he doesn't want me to get a loan through the banks until they improve. Essentially, he is acting as the bank and I am paying him directly, interest-free. Once rates come down, I'll take out a mortgage through the bank and pay him off, minus the money I've already given him.
My question is: What should I do with my money in the meantime while we're waiting for rates to come down?

**Pay Him as Much as Possible**: Should I be giving him as much money as I can to reduce the future loan amount, considering that I currently have no interest rate?
**Invest Elsewhere**: Should I pay him a moderate amount while investing my money elsewhere?

Campaign summary:
You are a tasked by the Emperor (for one reason or another) to serve as part of a secretive special group of soldiers who journey throughout the Empire hunting threats ranging from monsters to the supernatural. With the backing of the Empire in Roman territory (though you may not always be in Roman territory) you can usually find food, shelter and other basic requirements provided with ease. You will do your best to gather information about the creature (weaknesses, location, amount, etc.) before confronting it. Due to the secretive nature of your group, and the unpredictable state of the land you're travelling through sometimes you will also be confronted with Humanoid enemies (bandits, rebels, enemy empires) from time to time, as well as some threats that dont fall within your duty (goblins, orcs, etc), its up to you to decide how to handle those threats. From time to time the party will be gifted powerful artifacts in the form of magic items to aid them in their journey.
Session information:
Voice chat over discord, Battle maps on Owlbear Rodeo, Weekly on Sunday evenings (start time can be changed if it works better for players) 3-5 hour sessions with a 10 minute break somewhere.

Pierce-28M, Been playing/ DMing dnd for 2-3 years consistently, just finished running a year long campaign for some LFG peeps, I make most of the maps i use and generally homebrew monsters to fight, while using the monster manual to supplement them. Hi all, I’m going to do my best to make a long story short. We have a happy and healthy relationship.
My boyfriend’s family has been in town visiting and they dropped some pretty tough (family related) news that my boyfriend has been processing, all while trying to host and entertain them. After dropping the news, my boyfriend was a bit distant for about a week - he had never acted like this with me before and I tried to not read too much into it and just be supportive as I know he was overwhelmed and dealing with a lot. It should be noted that they were out of the state on a family trip at this time.
During the week that he was distant, it was pretty out of character for me but I did take a look at his Instagram following and noticed that he followed a girl I didn’t recognize. She followed him back the next day. I didn’t read too much into this as I’m a secure person and more so was just curious about who this girl was. My boyfriend typically only follows people he knows/has met and I know this because we’ve have conversations before about our boundaries with social media.
The weekend comes and things are back to normal with us once we we’re reconnected and able to finally see each other. He tells me he went to take his mom to get a facial at a spa that’s connected to his gym (he won a free spa day during a gym raffle) and later at dinner his mom mentioned that the esthetician that gave her a facial kept asking questions about my boyfriend (I.e. does he have a girlfriend) and also told his mom to tell him to come in anytime for a free facial. His mom encouraged him to go get the free facial. My boyfriend’s response was that he has noticed this girl looking at him various times in passing at the gym, she is clearly interested in him so 1. Why would he put himself in that position and 2. He doesn’t get facials. Mom said she understood.
For his mom to suggest my boyfriend to go entertain this girl and get the free facial, it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. So I was a bit bothered about this, asked my boyfriend if he knows this girl (obviously other than the fact that she works at the gym spa) and he told me no, doesn’t know her or her name.
I shrugged it off, a couple days later my mind brought me back to this situation and felt that it was my intuition. I looked at the spa’s Instagram page and saw that the girl my boyfriend randomly followed during the week he was being distant with me was the esthetician that is also interested in him. I brought it up to him that I see he follows her, I mention that it seems odd since he told me he didn’t know who she was or her name but he went out of his way to find and follow her on Instagram. He told me that she followed him first and he just followed her back, it wasn’t deeper than that.
But I knew he was lying here since I originally noticed when he first followed this girl, and that she followed him back a day or so later. I didn’t tell him that I knew he was lying because I didn’t want to admit that I had checked his Instagram following because it’s quite embarrassing and out of character, I don’t want him to get the wrong idea. Things have been good between us since this conversation but a part of me is really upset to know that he would lie to me. I’ve had full trust in him and this seems like something so insignificant to lie about but I’m sure it was because he wouldn’t want to admit that he followed this girl first and went out of his way to do so. Simply because I know for a fact if I did this, my boyfriend would also find it strange.
I’m really curious if there seems like a bigger issue here or if I’m thinking too deeply into this.

I had a very informative phone call with the Vitreous Macula Retina (VMR) Institute in Huntington Beach, CA. As many of you are aware, VMR Institute and Dr. Sebag have been at the forefront of floater treatments for over a decade. I reached out to them because I'm trying to decide if pursuing a vitrectomy is right for me. I wanted to share the points from my conversation in case it helps anyone else who is also considering a vitrectomy for their floaters.

Dr. Sebag is no longer performing vitrectomies, neither is anyone else at VMR. Dr. Sebag and his colleagues still perform comprehensive exams for floater sufferers and then refer patients to one of two local surgeons for vitrectomy: Dr. Hani Salehi or Dr. Eugene Chang.
VMR offers vitreolysis for suitable candidates as part of a clinical trial (first few sessions are free)
How often did Dr. Sebag operate on out-of-state patients?
- When Dr. Sebag was still operating, about 1/3 of patients were from out-of-state.
Post-op appointments
- If traveling from out-of-state for vitrectomy, will need to remain in town for about 1 week for post-op appointments (barring any complications). Subsequent follow-up appointments are usually scheduled for 3-6 months post-op, then 1 year post-op.
What type of anesthesia is used?
- 99% of surgeons use local anesthesia (injected near the eye), often in combination with twilight anesthesia. The local anesthetic will typically leave half your face numb for a few hours.
How do surgeons avoid frill?
- The best way to avoid frill (leftover vitreous skirt appearing post-op) is to induce PVD (i.e., full vitrectomy). The decision to perform core vs. full vitrectomy is made on a case-by-case basis.
- In a cohort of 230 patients that Dr. Sebag performed FOV on, 14% reported frill post-op. This 14% consisted entirely of myopic males (I found that quite interesting).
How many patients under the age of 30 has Dr. Sebag operated on?
- In the same cohort mentioned above, 40/230 were under 30 years old. The remainder were 50+
It's not necessary to find "the best" surgeon for FOV because vitrectomy is the most common procedure that every vitreo-retinal surgeon must be able to perform. What's more important is finding a surgeon you feel comfortable with and asking them the right questions, such as what gauge instrument they use, how many vitrectomies they've performed, etc.

I'll admit that I'm disappointed to hear Sebag is no longer operating, but it's reassuring to hear that VMR is still dedicated to helping patients who suffer from floaters. I'm not 100% set on vitrectomy yet, but I feel that speaking with surgeons (rather than merely reading anecdotes online) helps me feel less anxious about making a decision. Knowledge is power!

I got BG3 for Christmas and it really absorbed me, however the last semester of undergrad hit hard so I last played on January 21st. I know a lot of updates have happened since then, but I was busy so I couldn't keep up with what they changed, just that there was a lot and there were some odd story changes. My question now is basically: can/should I finish my original run, or should I just move on to the second one I had in mind?
To give a bit more information, I was a little over 70hrs into the game. By my estimates I was about halfway through Act 3, Gortash is dead, but Orin is not, and finishing Shadowheart's questline was next on the docket. I had romanced her and was doing a good playthrough.
Having loaded the save, it looks like everything works (although Shadowheart did get some random pop-ups about getting the Selunite spear and inspiration for freeing the Nightsong even though that happened quite a bit back in the save) so I'm inclined to believe that everything's kosher. I'm mostly worried that when moving forward there might be some weirdness with story flags, and minorly worried that there will be the odd story change that doesn't make sense to me. Are these worries founded, or do you all think I'm good?
