2024.05.21 10:37 adr826 The Book of Shadows

The last memory I had of my grandfather was hearing him scream as the the shadows in the field began to surround him with thin, web like fibers. Then my mother picked me up and ran with me in her arms back into our old farm house.
My last memory, that is until last night, when I awakened to a tinkling bell in an unknown vault so immense I couldn't see the walls or the ceiling. Far away I saw a dull light and heard the faint tinkling of a bell, incessantly ringing. I followed the sound till I could see him on a throne, which seemed to have merged with his body, leaving only his fingers free.
The acrid scent of burning wax and a lurking fear clung to the borders of the dream, if a dream it was. There, in the dim candle glow, sat my grandfather, his weathered face, a thousand years older than when I'd last seen him, etched with a desperate urgency. The same face I'd last seen contorted in a scream as he was swallowed by the shadows that had consumed him years ago.
"Elias," his voice, as dry as the dust that blanketed his entire body, said "You must listen. The darkness… it returns. Stronger this time." Terror struck my heart like a dagger, the memory of that horrifying night vivid even after all these years.
He pointed to a small table, on top of which lay an ancient leather book. "The Book of Repelling Shadows," he whispered. "Hidden all these years in my library… find the spell. You'll know it by the seven ravens on the preceding page. Recite it, Elias. It's the only way to banish the darkness and save yourself from my terrible fate. Go!!"
The dream dissolved, I awoke in a cold sweat, back in my bed. My heart pounded, like a drum, a rhythm of dread mixed with a sliver of desperate hope. I knew I must find the book or suffer the same choking embrace of eldritch shadows that had cursed our family for generations. Had my grandfather finally learned the secret to banish them forever? I had to find that book before they returned to claim me.
The book was, as He'd said it would be, in the family library. Written in an strange tongue, I frantically turned page after page till I discovered a page, on which were drawn seven ravens. On the opposite page there was written a single spell. The script was a simple gothic alphabet which I could recite, even though the language was unfamiliar.
Days bled into nights as I poured over the archaic script, the cryptic letters writhing like snakes before my sleep-deprived eyes. The passage was an incantation which seemed to promise the banishment of shadows. Relief washed over me, freedom from the ancient curse within my grasp. Tomorrow, I would face the darkness, armed with my grandfather's book.
The next night, I stood in the field behind the farmhouse. The moon was casting long, menacing shadows across the grass. Clutching the book, my voice trembled as I began the chant. The shadows seemed to peer into me, responding to the power of the words. Then, a flicker in the corner of my eye. A single tendril of darkness began to creep back from me, melting into the others.
Suddenly, I felt powerful even joyous as I recited the passages. I'd done it. I'd outwitted the very essence of darkness, using the power of the grimoire in my grandfathers library to turn it back. But as I closed the book , a flicker of unease sparked in my mind.
The symbols on the cover seemed different somehow. The incantation I'd recited sounded wrong as it paused, seeming to hang in the air . Anxiety began to overtake me, I felt a cold fear creeping down my spine. The shadows, weren't retreating as I believed but were surging forward with a malevolent hunger.
Frantic, I flipped through the pages, searching for the passage, the one that had repelled the darkness. But there were no ravens to be found, only a chilling emptiness where the spell had been moments ago. In my desperation, a horrifying realization dawned. This wasn't the Book of Banishing Shadows. It had never been.
The reality crashed over me like a tidal wave. My grandfather had been dead long ago. That old man on the throne wasnt him. All along, I'd been an unwitting pawn, duped by the darkness itself into unleashing the very thing I feared the most. The shadows I'd "banished" were now dancing joyously, in the pale moonlight.
My scream, lost in the encroaching darkness, was the last sound the world would ever hear from me. I was slowly being enveloped by the very shadows I so naively believed I'd repelled. The book, now fallen at my feet, in a cruel mockery of hope, lay closed. Its true title now plain to see in the last rays of the setting moon - The Book of Summoning Shadows.

2024.05.21 08:45 Nook-Incs-Pet Would you wait for the update before starting a new farm?

Newbie switch player here. I’m in Y3 Summer and unlocked Ginger Island, reached Lvl 100 of the skull cavern and just working my way to getting those golden walnuts. I’m loving the game but I stupidly started my farm on Riverland and I hate it. My farm looks like a dump and so fractured rather than unified. I spend most of my time on Ginger Island because I can actually make it look cute. Back on my OG farm, my chickens are neglected, my cows hate me and I want my horse!!
I want to start again with a better farm layout but I also want to wait for the update. However, it’s making me not want to play the game right now because if I start a new farm now and get through the initial grind (I’m looking at you prismatic shard and ancient seed 😒) if the update comes out in say 3 months time, I’ll potentially have to start AGAIN. Or I can just stick with Riverlands and waste my time knowing I’m going to desert this farm as soon as I can?
What would you do?

2024.05.21 04:40 Vegetable-Property76 What does the treatment and nature of Hephaestus tell us about disability in Ancient Greece?

As a person with a (mild) disability that causes me to ocassionally limp, I was obviously intrigued to see that Hephaestus was a Greek god with a similar issue.
I am aware there are many different explanations for Hephaestus being disabled, from him being disabled from birth to being injured as he was cast out of Mt Olympus, as well as one where he is injured when Zeus sexually assaults Hera, his mother.
Focusing on the Iliad, it’s clear Hephaestus limps/shuffles, even to the point of amusing the other gods - they laugh at him as he shuffles around the room serving wine. This does not stop Hephaestus from being incredibly useful - forging Achilles armour and even saving him in battle. When Hephaestus fights he is highly effective, so too when he speaks.
Hephaestus’ skill in the forge allows him to trap and bind multiple gods, including his Mother, the queen of the gods Hera. He makes all the gods famous equipment from Helios’ chariot to Zeus’ thunderbolts. He is arguably the most useful god on Mt Olympus (not that gods have to be useful). Yet despite all this he seems to be consistently mistreated, fostering in him a resigned bitterness to his appearance and position.
In a society dependant on farm labour you could understand (though obviously not condone) why stories and culture may have animosity to disabled people who cannot do manual work. Or perhaps see it as some divine punishment/curse on their family for past sins. Hephaestus though seems much more powerful, skilful and effective than many of the gods, despite having a limp.
Is this contradiction deliberate or is it a modern projection onto the story? Would the audience have understood this contradiction or was his disability “enough” to find his treatment normal? What can we infer about the attitudes towards disability in the Ancient Greek audience through the stories of Hephaestus?

2024.05.21 01:16 Kaenu_Reeves Empty Continents: The Tenten Tribe

This is a loosely connected set of stories that are mostly to enhance the early periods of Empty Continents, specifically right after the Vanishing.
You see the full forum here: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/empty-continents.553057/
Or a more easy-to-read version here: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/empty-continents.553057/reade
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome onboard American Airlines Flight 1010 with service from London Heathrow to Los Angeles. We are currently second in line for take-off and are expected to be in the air in approximately three minutes time.”
Linda Trellis recited the same speech heard on every flight as the plane started to move on the tarmac. It was a remarkably clear day in London; in fact, the weather forecast had sunny days for the entire week. Meanwhile, the US was swamped by rainstorms.
However, this flight would not land in Los Angeles- in fact, it would be forced to land on an ancient world, far removed from any trace of human life.
Captain Lukas Schmidt and First Mate Aiden Sharma were piloting the plane that late night. Lukas yawned, waiting for the other plane to take off. When it did, Aiden would give the all-clear, moving the plane to the runway.
“We ask that you please fasten your seatbelts at this time and secure all baggage underneath your seat or in the overhead compartments. We also ask that your seats and table trays are in the upright position for take-off.” Linda continued her routine speech.
“Please turn off all personal electronic devices, including laptops and cell phones. Smoking is prohibited for the duration of the flight, and tampering with bathroom smoke detectors is strictly prohibited. Thank you for choosing American Airlines, and enjoy your flight!”
The plane swiftly took off, departing the unusually clear skies of London. The airport seemed to work in perfect motion, with synchronized planes landing and taking off. The expansion was incredibly beneficial to the airport.
Linda was surprised to see barely any children on board. The youngest of the passengers seemed to be a teenage girl listening to music on their phone. It made for a quiet flight.
“Good afternoon, passengers. This is your captain Lukas Schmidt speaking. I'd like to welcome everyone on American Airlines Flight 1010. We are currently at our cruising altitude. The time is 1:25 pm, and the weather looks quite rough, so expect some turbulence on the latter part of the flight. The cabin crew will be coming around in about twenty minutes time to offer you light snacks and beverages that can be viewed from the in-flight menu. Sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of the flight.”
A few hours had passed without any incidents; the plane was now above Colorado. Immediately, the Vanishing happened. It was silent, but its screams would be clearly noticed soon enough.
At first, Lukas Schmidt and Aiden Sharma didn’t notice anything too wrong. However, when they called air traffic control to give some routine information, there was no response.
“What’s happening with air traffic control?” Aiden wondered.
Lukas used the ACARS, a messaging system between planes, to find out what was going on. He was messaging a plane that was coming from Los Angeles.
“This plane’s saying some crazy stuff,” Lukas said, reading the ACARS messages. “It sounds like something has happened to the Los Angeles Airport?”
“Hmm, what about the rest of California?” Aiden asked.
Lukas exchanged a few rounds of messages, then shook his head. “It sounds like something happened to the entire West Coast. The way they’re describing it is crazy. All air traffic infrastructure and airports have just… vanished?”
Aiden checked the fuel gauges. They were past the Point of No Return, a fuel level that determines whether they could return back to Britain or not. “We don’t have much fuel, Lukas. We have to land somewhere in North America.”
They tried calling air traffic controls many times, but there was no response.
Over the next few hours, the crew would be slowly revealed to the truth. They headed back East, entering a new airspace and giving a turbulence warning to the passengers. Lukas contacted air traffic control again, expecting more nothingness.
“Apparently, the East Coast had been damaged by a hurricane a few days prior,” Lukas chimed.
“That won’t help us,” Amir responded, checking the aircraft to make sure everything was right.
Because the airline industry loves redundancy, Lukas and Aiden called a third, fourth, fifth, sixth time.
But there was nothing.
The few Midwest natives noticed something was wrong as they encroached upon the Great Plains. There were no farms, no charming little towns- only the raw, expansive wilderness. For these natives, a strange feeling of confusion, desperation, and fear slowly filled up in their stomachs. It was only felt for them by now, but soon, the entire plane would be swept away by this horrible panic.
Meanwhile, the cockpit was tense. Lukas tried every communication method possible, while Aiden checked the manuals to make sure everything was working properly. The plane itself was perfectly fine, but the first officer wouldn’t take any chances.
The in-flight map showed them flying right over a city , but the passengers saw only wilderness. The flight attendants noticed as well, with Linda noticing that there wasn’t any place to land. Still, she comforted the worried passengers, saying that they would land quickly and safely.
But there was nothing.
The plane still had some fuel left, but there was a frenzied atmosphere inside the cockpit. They continually checked the manuals over and over to make sure their mapping and communications systems were working. Even when they were perfectly fine, they checked again. Finally, Lukas realized the desperation of their situation. They didn’t know what had truly happened, but they still needed to land the plane.
Finally, Lukas realized what had to be done. They would have to make an emergency landing on the Great Plains of America.
The calm and charismatic First Officer made the announcement.
“Hello, passengers, this is your First Officer Aiden Sharma speaking. Due to strange and unforeseen circumstances, we will make an emergency landing on the grass. The ground seems relatively hard, which means it should be similar to landing on a runway. The flight attendants will inform you on the procedures after that.”
Finding a suitable spot to make a landing would be tough. They would have to land in a place without rivers, hills, or any form of rough terrain. They would also have to avoid the massive herds of bison that seemed to roam the plains.
To Lukas and Aiden, this was just a stereotypical image of rural America. But Linda Trellis knew that something was terribly wrong. She had grown up near these plains, and she knew that bison were nearly hunted to extinction. What had caused so much of them to appear?
Lukas reluctantly lowered the landing gear as Aiden made the final preparations for an emergency landing. They would be landing on a vast, expansive field with bison surrounding it. There would be no room for error, as the airplane was running out of fuel. Slowly but surely, the airplane circled around itself as it descended. It had slowed down to a reasonable speed, but they were still unsure of what was going to happen.
As the airplane’s wheels collided with the grass below, Lukas and Aiden worked desperately to land safely. Massive rumbles scared the passengers, as some of them turned to prayer. Finally, the aircraft slowed down, creaking and groaning as everyone onboard breathed a sigh of relief. Aiden looked in confusion at a bison who collided with the airplane, as hundreds more roamed the plains around them.
There would be no cheering or applause, though, as the people onboard would be the only humans around for hundreds of miles. In the far islands on the other side of the world, people would suffer in ways never thought imaginable in a twenty-first-century world.
The Age of the Vanishing had begun.

2024.05.21 00:50 TheTantrical The interesting story of How I came across Skyrim for first time and what it did for me!

So most of you guys have either been a gamer or played maybe oblivion or Morrowind etc
I was never a gamer really even though I enjoyed them.
I used to have a terrible PC when I was a kid and only had to play games at low graphics, old games or minigames (box10 .com anyone??)
My favorite game was ofc Half Life 3 my PC could run it and if you think about it it has a lot of ragdoll and interactivity just like Skyrim.
This was when I was in 13 years old now let's fast-forward 10 years later!
I borrow a friend laptop a high end laptop like crazy 4gb vram etc etc could run any game at that moment in time with full graphics yet I was just using it to watch movies.
I always loved those archery minigames you just aim and shoot so I thought hey let me search for a minigame with bows and arrows.
I couldn't find anything!!!!
Let me find one then !!!
So I searched " best games for bow and arrow" and the results came up, now it has many suggestions but man I don't know why when I read Skyrim it intrigued me !
I decided to play it then I notice it was a huge game 😏 anyhow I went with it.
The moment it started I was like jaw dropped.
I couldn't believe I found a game with farms, off-grid king of life, explore everywhere, with books and mysticism which I love since I'm spiritual and mediate a lot, like to live as ancients did, and oh man once I tried the bow shooting style it's just amazing I think no game can compete.
So long story short I played it everyday for 1 year and a half, I had to give back the laptop I decided to then buy a PS4 just for Skyrim, sold the free games which comes with the console for Skyrim and I played it for 3 more years.
All I can say is thank God for that Google search 😂

2024.05.20 23:20 AnxiousSeason Our future.

Our future.
As the weather slowly turns, my mind once again embraces the idea of starting. Winter is so easy to go inside your shell and forget everything. Summer comes around and suddenly begins to pop up.
I think our chief concerned right now is going to be our Internet presence. Getting the website, email, getting podcasts, getting YouTube videos, even TikTok’s, and really just getting the message out, being a little controversial while still remaining authentic to who we are, and going our own way. Bhagwan had his style, and we love his style, but his style came from the era he lived in. His style was of the 50s and the 60s and the 70s and the 80s and the 90s, whereas our style needs to be true to our generation, and the generations that come after us.
I myself am in my early 40s, soon mid 40s, and no doubt eventually 50s and so on so forth. So this movement, this international resurgence, it’s not even so much for me. I have a good life. My life is almost over. I can very easily continue to live my life right now without any change and I would be perfectly happy. I am happy to walk the farm and think of Bhagwan and meditate by myself. I have attained enlightenment. True enlightenment means not being so bothered by the fact that no one else knows you are enlightened. If you are so concerned by the fact that other people know that you are enlightened, then that by itself is assigned that you are not yet fully there. that is ego. And to become fully enlightened means ego death. Absolutely and completely. So as I walk the farm now, and I look upon the freshly cut grass and the green trees and the blue sky and the large volume is white clouds, I could die alone and I would be quite happy and fulfilled. Perhaps not alone, the cats keep me company.
So this resurgence is not for me. It is I who am doing it, but it’s not for me. I don’t need it. I would like it, I would want it, but I don’t need it. And I have wondered in my days why me? I’m not special. I’m no one. I could continue to do what I do for the rest of my life and I would be just fine if nothing were to come of this. My life would not fundamentally or materially change. I would continue to watch the deer in the grass. I would continue to watch the birds at the birdfeeder. I would continue to hear the owl at night. I would continue to walk in the back 10 acres among the rainforest and be constantly and consistently in awe the natural beauty of it. I would watch the seasons come and go, the green at first, a bright new fresh spring green, slowly giveaway to a more standard green and eventually as it warmed up, dryer green, and then a brown and as it got colder it would be gone. And then it would be cold for a while and then eventually that same new fresh vibrant green would come back again and over and over. And then one day I would be part of that cycle and my cycle in this life would be complete and I move through the grass, the tall grass move with the wind, revealing a very presence, as if I could not feel it upon my skin, I’m just reminded how lucky I am to be here and how I am content, I have it all and I am part of this and this is part of me. And one of these days when I lay down for my last time, I will come back to this.
So this is not for me. I don’t need anything. I am absolutely content.
This revival is for you, my beloved sanyassins. it is for you, the ones who were born too late to sit at the masters feet. In that, you join me. I was born early enough to be around when the masters energy was alive, but not so early enough to have been any kind of adult to really partake in such a thing. I was barely 4 years old when the master was in Oregon. I can’t imagine that he would want a four year-old sitting at his feet, and I imagine as a four-year-old I probably would not have appreciated such a thing anyway.
But now i would. And you’ll have to forgive me because this voice to text on the phone is not always perfect. I have attached a picture of what I am beholding as I speak on this topic today..
I want you to see the picture, I want you to understand my position. I don’t need a single thing. But I look around the world and I see the pain, I see the misery, I see the suffering and the lies, and I understand how it was when I was young and growing up. I understand the lies That they told me. I join the military when I was a young man because I believed the lies. I believed that this was the greatest country ever, and I believed in the so-called goodness that they said that this country stood for. Obviously I don’t believe that anymore. But there are countless scores of young men and young women who are growing up in this country who are thinking exactly the thing I thought. They are signing up for the military, they are volunteering to sacrifice their very lives for this nation. And if the nation was a good nation, if it was a good place, I would say that would be a noble thing. But it’s not. For so many reasons it’s not. But I did my time, I’ve succeeded in my own way and I am happy and I’m pleased with what I have now. I know beauty, I know it in my soul but I fear many of you don’t.
I fear many of you know only what they tell you. I grew up in a time before the Internet, but I was also young enough to adopt the Internet quickly when it came out. But my identity was formed before the Internet. I remember the Internet as the wild West. Before it was controlled by Google and other mega corporations. Remember the Internet before it became the thought control mechanism that it is now. You used to be able to look on the Internet and find exactly what you wanted to find. Now you find only what Google has decided that you will see. You find what Google wants you to know, you find what Google wants you to read, And when I say Google I of course mean the people who own Google. The elites, the state, so anymore I question whether or not the youth of today and tomorrow will even know what truth is or will they simply know the truth they are told.
I myself know the truth, I’ve seen it, I’ve lived it, and I know who the liar is. But anymore, there’s confusion on that front. The young are confused. They don’t know who to listen to. Truth has been claimed by every side out there. And I wish I could say there were only two sides, that would be easy. There are numerous sides. Countless sides. There is an armada of sides, each of them claiming truth, and in a way I suppose I am no different. Of course I believe I am different, but to an individual who otherwise doesn’t know, how would they see that I am different? Why would they not think that I am just like everyone else? That’s a good question, I wish I knew the answer. But again this is not for me. I’ve made it. I’m good. This is for you. This is for my children. This is for their children. This is for the young men and women Who otherwise don’t know. This is for those who were born to late to learn from the master himself.
And because it’s based on truth, there is an element of fear that I have, perhaps why we have been so delayed in doing anything on this front. When people speak from a place of absolute truth Those people have a way of running into problems. Whether it’s legal problems, or some kind of other nonsense, the state does not mind another grifter. The state is a grifter and does not begrudge another. But the one thing that grifters, conmen, and charlatans alike cannot stand, is someone who tells the absolute truth. To them, we are the most dangerous thing there is. And not because I’m necessarily trying to be dangerous to them, but because once someone sees the real truth, they can never be fooled again. We are the ultimate antidote and it is far easier to frame us or set us up or put false charges on us And get us out the way it is to leave us alone slowly lose ground to us. I’ve seen it with numerous people and numerous groups before. If you stand against the charlatans, if you stand against the elites, then they will come for you. And they will murder you. They might claim that it’s some kind of legal thing or they might claim that it’s some kind of accusation, but they can just make things up, and whatever they say, their sheep will simply accept. Their sheep are not about to ask questions, because if they ask questions then that would fundamentally make them not a sheep.
So as the weather turns my mind once again considers what we set out to do from the very beginning. Create a new place for this old idea. Idea that sadly enough was supposed to have been done by the very people who took over the masters movement after his passing. His very suspicious passing. They were supposed to use his money and continue his vision but instead they took his money and they ran. And that was in the 90s. So here we are 30 years later and now it falls upon us to do something. And if we don’t do something, it doesn’t happen.
And that precisely has me wondering about the nature of things. Where do ideas come from. If I do not do the thing, then who will do the thing? If I do not create such a movement, who will? Where did the idea in my mind come from to start this? Did it just randomly pop into my head for no good reason? Where did this inspiration, where did this come from? I think it’s an interesting question, because when I talk to other people, and I talk to other followers of the master who are on different forums and such, None of them have told me that they are interested or have ever even considered starting up such a thing. So I guess my question is why am I? Did this inclination, this idea, this inspiration come from? Why did I think about doing this? And why have I not been able to get rid of the idea? Why have I not been able to be rid myself of this idea that I have had for more than a decade?
In 2012 I had a small group and we were doing things that I suppose would be best described as school of mystery type things. For example, we were looking at and using tarot cards. We were meditating, we had been reading and discussing some of Bhagwan’s books. We looked at and studied Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Zen, even Zoroastrianism as well as some of the more ancient Babylonian religions discussed in the dead sea scrolls. We had all manner of esoteric conversation and it was very enjoyable. But it was clear to me that many of them were just about talking and we’re not very interested in something more serious. the group slowly turned more and more into reading Bhagwan’s books and discussing his concepts and we did lose some people from the group because they did not like that. But that was my intention for the group group the whole time, and so it was an unfortunate but understandable change. A lot of the people that we lost were simply people I call seekers. they are there to talk about interesting things and have friends to talk about interesting things with, but otherwise they were not interested in any kind of serious discourse, they were not serious about any kind of personal growth or personal mastery, they did not like to meditate, they were mostly there because, in my opinion, they felt that they could potentially have relations with girls who were also interested in the same thing. So when they left we were not totally upset to see them go. And then the small core group of us studied more and more about Bhagwan and then came time for me to move. And although I have had attempted to set the group up since then, I never had success and I was too busy moving around. When the time finally came for me to purchase my own place and stop moving, I did so with a keen eye on looking at a future property for the start of the commune. I ended up settling on this 20 acres that we are on currently.
Unfortunately getting 20 acres in a location is often not the same location that you’re going to find the same people who are interested in mystery school type studies, let alone Bhagwan.
The people here are generally friendly, mostly stick to themselves, but are your typical mix of city/rural person. They’re not too interested in anything outside of the norm. So any kind of attempt to start anything here would almost certainly be a waste of time and could turn violent because the people here are probably not too dissimilar from the people in antelope although given that it is nearly 40 years later, certainly attitudes have lightened up a little bit. There is also enough of a mixture of city people living here that it tends to be a little more live and let live type of a place which I think is nice.
but all that to simply say that this place is not the kind of place that you can go and just create some kind of an esoteric mystery school type group and expect to have a lot of success. Which is fine because we have the Internet now,…
But still I wonder why has this idea stuck in my head this whole time? when I talk to people they themselves are not necessarily interested in doing something like this themselves. They have not looked to create some kind of commune or even community or even some kind of just social get together type group. The idea has never crossed their mind. And yet I can’t get it out of mind. so I just wonder where ideas come from, is it just an idea that we ourselves had, is it some kind of inspiration, and if it’s some kind of inspiration where does it come from? Back in 2012 when we were doing that initial mystery school, certainly I would not say that I was any kind of enlightened. I was still learning myself. As Bhagwan said, being enlightened does not mean that we walk on water or that we know that our room is bugged, it simply means that we know ourselves beyond all things. that we have no ego that is holding us back, we have no expectations that manipulate us or mold us to a certain way. We are completely free first and foremost, and then within that freedom, we know ourselves. And knowing ourselves in such a way, it opens up the energy in our bodies, flowing for through the chakras resulting in absolute clarity. And this clarity is the thing that all enlighten Masters have talked about.
And let me be clear, I am not some Eastern Mystic guru expert. I do not know every single word for every single phenomenon that the Hindus and the Buddhist use. and the reason I have never made the attempt at doing so for you. Because I don’t want you to feel that you have no place in this human evolution because you do not know the words that it is often referred to.
This is not a Hindu thing. This is not a Buddhist thing. This is not an Indian thing. This is a human thing. and before I said chakras and I use the word because I think that most people understand what I’m talking about. But if I said another word, and there are many to choose from, you would probably not know what I was talking about, and maybe some of you would, but the absolutely new person would not know what I was talking about. And this is a human thing. This is not an Indian thing. This is not a Hindu thing. So I don’t like to use those words and as I myself was going through this process and I myself was learning the thing under the masters teaching, I did my best to understand these things from a human perspective, not an eastern mysticism perspective. I did my best to learn about the very core fundamentals of the thing, rather than simply call it by the name that the Indians call it by, or the Hindu use or the Buddhist use. and I realize that doing that, Hindu and Buddhist might see what I am doing or what I’m saying as somehow shallow, or perhaps fake. Because if I am not calling it by the name that they understand it by, they get very defensive because they feel that this is their thing. And so I should be using their words for the thing. But this is not just an Eastern thing. This is a thing. And so I don’t want to use their words because I fear that it will scare some of you away. So when I talk about these concepts and these ideas, I do my best to put them in the most common of terms, I do my best to put them in the most layman language possible because that is precisely who I am doing this for. You, the layman. the common person. I don’t want to use specific words or phrases that will confuse you. Instead of calling in a chakra, I would rather call it an energy Nexus. It’s the same thing. It’s the same concept. But calling it a chakra is specific to one culture, calling an energy Nexus in the body, expands the concept and makes it more accessible to all humans.
Ultimately we will see what happens. Many summers have come and go with me feeling the urge to begin. Many summers have come and go with me creating countless hours of discourses that perhaps no one will ever hear. Being enlightened does not mean being fearless. Being enlightened does not mean that you act rationally. Being enlightened does not mean that you go looking for trouble. It means that you have a tame a level, it means that you have attained a certain kind of self-mastery it means that when you die, you will have the choice whether or not you will come back to this life as a master and a helper, or whether you will be done and you will rejoin once and for all with the creator. i’m not certain if I can be so honest. I am a very old soul and I’m tired. That’s why part of me struggles perhaps at starting this even though I’ve done so much already. In a way I have started it, but in another way, I have not yet done the most important step of all. i’m tired. I value my peace and my quiet. And I fear that if I do what is in me to do, then I will give up my peace and my quiet. I love you all, I love you so much that it angers me to see how the world treats you. It does not surprise me however, because I understand how the world is and I understand who runs the world. but it still angers me I want so much for you all to be able to live the lives that you were meant to live. I want so much for you to be able to embrace your absolute individuality and reach that mastery level and eventually have that breakthrough of pure consciousness and that pure connection of collective subconsciousness… Bhagwan speaks a bit on it and I credit that collective subconscious connection for helping me to break through a spiritual block that I was having for a while. Having gotten over that, I believe that is what allowed me to later on get to where I needed to get to so that I had a total ego death and so doing achieved and enlightenment. so I understand the criticality of the commune. It is a shared space, with shared intention, which can be fostered up overtime, which eventually leads to the kind of collective subconscious connections that you need to really propel your spiritual advancement far beyond anything that you could do by yourself. in Buddhism they call it a buddhafield. But the concept is not completely understood correctly by them. They say that a Buddha field is a field of energy that is coming off of the Buddha. That is absolutely false. Well, sort of. Of course the Buddha is putting off their own energy, but everyone puts off their energy. The Buddha serves as the magnet. Many people of like mines and like paths and like energies are attracted to the Buddha. And then when they are there with the Buddha, all of their energies sync up and this is what becomes the buddha field. This is what allows the rapid spiritual transformation. It has everything to do with the collective unconscious. And sometimes you will hear me say subconscious sometimes you will hear me say unconscious, it’s the same thing. It’s the absolute same thing. There’s no difference at all. we are not very dogmatic when it comes to the terms that we use we just want you to understand the fundamental concepts that we’re talking about. And I do this by using different language for the same thing. And if there’s confusion I will clarify. But this is why the Comun is so key critical, because I understood what it did for me and I understand why it’s so important. Bhagwan said that in the new society, of course the new society living on the commune, in a Buddha field, that the young children would become enlightened beings like Jesus and like Krishna and like Buddha in their early teenage years. I find it interesting that no one has ever question such a comment. No one has ever been intellectually curious to ask why. Why would that be the case. And the answer is probably not surprising given what I’ve just said to you. Because if you have hundreds of people all walking along a similar spiritual path, all putting out similar spiritual energy, all aligning their energy and their intention the same direction, at the same time, this energy is amplified and it is absolutely magnified, and if you are in this energy field, and you are also focusing in the same direction on the same path, then you will have monumental speed, you will have unprecedented progress. It has been said before
It has been said before that we all walk a different path. Well, that’s sort of true but it’s also not true at all. we are all human being, and there is only one path. The path from being asleep to being awake. From consciousness to enlightenment. The difference is that we walk the path differently. Some of us walk it very quickly some of us walk it slower, some of us walk it more methodically, some of us walk it intuitively. Some of us walk it alone some of us walk it together
And you have also heard the saying that if you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together. And this is absolutely true also in the spiritual path. And that is precisely what the communist for. If you want to go far on your spiritual path and you want to achieve enlightenment in this lifetime, then you absolutely have to live and spend a large portion of your time in a Buddharfield. Or perhaps we should say Bhagwan field. But you understand my point.
But again anywhere that light and goodness pop up, darkness will seek to crush it. And seeing what they did to Bhagwan and his commune in Oregon, understanding the power dynamics that were going on there, understanding how they completely sabotage Sheila and turned Bhagwan against her When she was his number one advocate, his number one supporter, the most loyal person, and that is exactly why they had to get her out of the way. She had to get out of the way because once she was out of the way then Bhagwan was easy for the vultures.
And so I absolutely see this and I absolutely understand it. And it worries me because I know that if we try to start something, those same powers will come at us, and even though I am aware and even though I will make my people aware, being aware does not necessarily mean that you are safe. Because it has been 40 years and the enemy has had 40 years to improve the tactics. And again if they can’t take you out fairly, then they will take you out unfairly. The law is nothing to them. They will kill you and not even think twice.
And every morning I wake up my mind is on my master. Every morning I wake up I think about Bhagwan, I think about the mission I think about the commune I think if today will be the day that I start to do something.
And I suppose I have to wonder why I am putting this in such a post here when I am the only person on this group. Loyal Savita is of course supporting me and behind me and she loves Bhagwan. But when it comes to management, Savita is out of her league. When it comes to setting an organization up, Savita is out of her league. Savita would make an excellent group leader or service leader, She would make an excellent advisor, but when it comes to the logistics of setting up such a movement, sweet Savita simply would really have no idea where to begin. So if I really wanted to do something like setting up the website and setting up the social media and starting the podcast, if I didn’t want it to be some kind of very amateur production, which ideally I would not like it to be amateurish, then I would need to find some other help. Or I will have to simply settle on something being amateurish to begin with and if we saw some success, perhaps some additional people to the movement would have the skills needed to help us step everything up. But to me, that is kind of secondary to the reality that if we did such a thing, would that we would have a target on our backs. and right now our lives here are very simple and peaceful and quiet and not very dramatic at all.
And yet there is still this urging in me to do it. And I don’t quite know where that comes from.

2024.05.20 23:08 zoycitek When tomb rework?

I really do not like reworks, but since the entirety of the rest of the game has been reworked... when is Tomb of the Ancients going to get a rework? Why is it immune to rework?
The boss fight is pretty much good; I think few people would debate that, but the dungeon is just absolute dog water at this point to run due to length and better or same rewards available elsewhere for much less effort/risk. No one wants to go in because taking out 5 sarcs takes way too long. In the time it takes to run a tomb with decent rushing, you can get almost as much life from a Nest in half the time with a full skip.
On top of that now I can just go farm the right biome and get life pots. The rings are in solid c+ to b- tier now. So the loot isn't attracting anyone either.
If the dungeon were shorter, perhaps its popularity would increase. Tomb just has not aged well. Hopefully something can be done to make it better.

Archaeologists in China have found over 2 million copper coins with square holes in a 2000 year old ancient tomb
10 Tons of Copper Coins unearthed in 2,000 years old Ancient Tomb
https://sciinsider.com/2024/05/19/10-tons-of-copper-coins-unearthed-in-2000-years-old-ancient-tomb/
Could it be that I am going to need a bigger top pocket?
Archaeologists have unearthed more than two million copper coins from an ancient complex of tombs in the Xinjian District of China.
The 2,000-year-old money, which bears Chinese symbols, characters, and a square hole in the centre, was found at a dig site in the city of Nanchang.
The value of the coins is said to be around £104,000 ($157,340) and experts believe the main tomb is that of Liu He – the grandson of Emperor Wu, the greatest ruler of Han Dynasty.
...
Chinese people started using coins as currency around 1,200 BC, where instead of trading small farming implements and knives, they would melt them down into small round objects and then turn them back into knives and farm implements when needed.
It meant early coins were known as ‘knife money’ or ‘tool money’, and as people began to rely on them more for commerce they were replaced by copper coins which were of very low value and often had holes in the middle.
The hole meant the coins could be strung together to create larger denominations, with typically around 1,000 coins on a single string being worth one tael [37.7994 grams = 1 1/3 oz.] of pure silver.
...
At face value, they would be valued at around £104,060 ($157,340), but because of their age and history are believed to be worth far more.
A single coin can, in fact, sell for thousands of pounds [currently 1 Pound = $1.27 US], although at the time copper coins had a very low value.

2024.05.20 16:17 theananthak Malayalam literature for beginners

So my last post asking why Indians don't read Indian books anymore had me surprised with the number of people genuinely interested to know more about Malayalam literature. A lot of them asked me for recommendations, so I thought I'd make a post. Now this won't be just a simple list of books to read. The reading list at kerala is probably better for a complete list of Malayalam books to read than a random internet post, but I hope with my post you will understand and appreciate Malayalam literature and Kerala better.
Malayalam evolved from Tamil. It branched off from Tamil in those parts of Tamilakam (a collective name given to the ancient Tamil kingdoms) which were most influenced by Sanskrit. The earliest literature that is distinctly Malayalam are from the 1100s, but the true beginning of Modern Malayalam starts from the 15th century with Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, master poet and father of Malayalam. Now Ezhuthachan (whose name literally means 'teacher of writing') was a lower caste Ezhava man who dared to study the Vedas and even began to write and teach others to write in an age where literacy was gatekept by Brahmins. His seminal work is the Adhyathma Ramayana, a retelling of the Ramayana from the lens of the Advaita or nondual philosophy. Here is an excerpt from the same work, translated by me. This verse is an opening verse where Ezhuthachan asks Brahmins for permission to retell the Ramayana. Sounds very serious and solemn, yes? Now watch Ezhuthachan mock the hell out of the entire class system of medieval Kerala.
For who can speak of the greatness of that lofty creed, owners of the earth, commanders of the Vedas, whose ceaseless boons and curses, drive even Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to their wit's end. But pray, may I, born out of the feet of Brahma, number one among the unknowledgeable dare tell Rama's tale for the unconscious ones.
By the 1800s Malayalam literature had modernized very much. It was the first Indian language to start translating the works of Shakespeare, Milton etc. and the 19th century brought with it a fascination for Russian literature in Kerala that still has not ceased. Most big Malayalam bookstores have whole sections devoted to Russian literature translated from the original to Malayalam.
We get our first Malayalam novel in 1889 with O. Chandu Menon's Indulekha. Indulekha is about a young Nair lady of the same name, well educated in English and Sanskrit, in love with Madhavan, a western educated young man torn between modern culture and the culture he grew up in. Later, modernity and the past clash again when old Brahmin men try to marry Indulekha according to the old system. A saddened Madhavan runs away to Bengal in haste, leaving Indulekha to make her decision. The novel shows Indulekha as a modern, unwavering woman, willing to challenge her patriarchs, and shows how the society of Kerala had changed by the 1880s, when the decision of a woman could no longer be overruled. Must read for fans of Victorian fiction like those of Jane Austen, or even PG Wodehouse. (Spoilers - Madhavan realizes his mistake and returns for Indulekha.)
CV Raman Pillai's Marthanda Varma is another behemoth from the 1800s. Based on the life of the 18th century king Marthanda Varma, known as the maker of modern Travancore. Marthanda Varma was born in the royal family of Venad in a Travancore where the ruling family had lost all power to a group of eight Nair families known as the Ettuveettil Pillamar or the Pillas of the Eight Houses. The treasury of the kingdom was almost zero and real power and wealth were in the hands of the Pillas who had even started charging taxes and tarrifs. What follows is a brutal and bloody game between Marthanda Varma, a young prince who just won't give in, and the Eight Houses conspiring to kill him, told from the point of view of a love story involving a chivalric knight and an upper class girl. I've always noticed how Indian books and movies like portraying historical figures like superhuman gods perfect in every way. This book is for those who want to see the real nastiness of history. I recommend Marthanda Varma to fans of books like Shogun or even Game of Thrones.
With the 20th century we have writers like Thakazhi, a towering figure in Indian literature, whose Randidangazhi tells the story of a peasant uprising against landowners during the formative years of modern Kerala. Set in the paddy fields of Kerala, it shows how the poor, after having lived in a state of blissful ignorance starts to slowly come out of their coccoon and realise the horror of their slaving lives. Randidangazhi is a glimpse to how Marxism and Socialism began to get imported to Kerala and how it influenced the culture of Kerala. The less critically acclaimed but more popular novel of Thakazhi, is Chemmeen or Prawn, later made into one of the most succesful Malayalam movies ever. Chemmeen is set in the fishing landscape of Kerala in the shores of the Arabian sea, where fishermen believe that if a woman cheats on her husband while he is at sea, the Sea-Mother would swallow her up. Presented in this socio-cultural context is the story of Parikutty, a muslim fisherman in love with Karuthamma, the daughter of a Hindu fisherman. Their story is a more realistic and tragic version of Romeo and Juliet, with Karuthamma having to marry another man. But her love for Parikutty never dies, and they end up dead in the shores of the ocean.
Vaikom Muhammad Basheer - probably my favourite Malayalam writer. Basheer was a well educated Muslim man who grew up in the rural Muslim dominated areas of Kerala. He wrote in simple colloquial Malayalam and was looked down upon by the literary giants of his day, but today he’s seen as one of the masters of Malayalam fiction. He was once called by an English writer as the Chekhov of India to which a Malayalam writer responded saying that Chekhov was the Basheer of Russia. Basheer wrote about very ordinary people from the most ordinary places. The most famous and finest book of his I have read is called (and this sounds hilarious in Malayalam cause it’s basically a sentence squished into a word in a thick Muslim accent) Ntuppuppaakkoraanendaarnnu! which means My grandpa had an elephant! or more accurately Mygrandpahadanelephent! It’s a coming of age story about a little girl named Kunjupaathumma or little Pathu, who grows up in a family that once used to be rich but is growing poorer by the day. Little pathu gets consoled by her mom on almost a daily basis telling her ‘your grandpa had an elephant!’ clinging on to old pride while doing nothing to solve their present crisis. The English translation is actually called Me Grandad 'ad an Elephant, which kinda captures the original vibe.
MT Vasudevan Nair - the greatest writer to have ever written in Malayalam. Award winning novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and director. His first foray into fiction begins with winning a prize in a short story writing contest held by the New York Herald Tribune in 1953. What proceeded is one of the most impressive literary careers in history. His novels Naalukettu and Asuravithu show the shifting economic landscape of Kerala's Nair households. In Kaalam, the protagonist living in the city begins exploring the nostalgia of his past in feudal Kerala, having to face his crippling loneliness.
MT's most celebrated work and the second (you'll hear of the first very soon) most read Malayalam novel ever is Randamoozham or The Second Turn (translation is weirdly titled Bhima: The Lone Warrior, but English readers swear its very good). Let me begin talking about this novel by simply showing you the opening lines.
The sea was black in colour. Even after having swallowed a palace and an entire city, as if it's hunger hadn't died, the wave beat her head on the shore and screamed in agony.
You just read MT describe the sinking of Dwaraka. Randamoozham is about the Mahabharata, specifically about Bhima, the second of the Pandava brothers, well... dealing with being the second. He reinterprets the events of the Mahabharata with such skill that he makes you empathize with even the cruelest characters. Modern retellings of Indian epics like Asura or Jaya basically rewrite the story and change major events and add plot twists. MT changes nothing, and I mean nothing from the Mahabharata. He simply points out things you never thought about, and explores what might have been the deeper emotional reasons behind the actions of each character. MT being the most empathetic writer I've read has this incredible talent of seeing through people and making characters feel real and tangible. In Randamoozham he explores so many emotions, Bhima's feeling of being inferior to Arjuna, his feeling of emasculation and sexual helplessness, his intense love for Draupadi never repaid as she always prefers Arjuna over him.
Khasakkinte Ithihasam or the Legends of Khasak by OV Vijayan is usually considered the best Malayalam novel ever written. If you google 'greatest Malayalam novel' either this or Randamoozham comes up (google switches them up now and then). The novel is basically magical realism, the same genre of 100 years of solitude of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. But Vijayan's magical realism is a very different beast from that of Marquez. The distinction is subtle. Unlike the novels of Marquez, whether the magical parts of the book are real or not is left ambiguous. Let me explain, the protagonist is Ravi, a stoic man separated from his girlfriend, arriving at a muslim village called Khasak in the middle of nowhere to work as a school teacher. At first its a weird disjointed series of sketches of life in this strange village filled with strange characters who attribute every event and occurence to the workings of magical beings, spirits, or even long dead Muslim warriors. But the novel slowly reveals itself to be the story of a man learning to disconnect from reality and start seeing the magic buried within life. There's a scene where the mc recollects a memory as a child of looking up at the suns and seeing the weird wiggly things that move around in your eyes. His mother explains to him that they are actually Devas or tiny gods in sky, shying away when you look at them. This scene perfectly encapsulates the genre of this novel. I'll also share the fantastic opening para:
When the bus came to its final halt in Koomankavu, the place did not seem unfamiliar to Ravi. He had never been there before, but he had seen himself coming to this forlorn outpost beneath the immense canopy of trees, with its dozen shops and shacks raised on piles; he had seen it all in recurrent premonitions—the benign age of the trees, their riven bark and roots arched above the earth. The other passengers had got off earlier and Ravi sat alone in the bus, contemplating the next part of the journey as one does an ominous transit in one’s horoscope.
Mayyazhipuzhayude Theerangalil or On the banks of the Mayyazhi river by M. Mukundan - This is a novel spanning generations of French Indians in the French colony of Mahe in Kerala. It just wonderfully rolls out history like a scroll and shows you the glacial shifts of history from the reverent attitude of the locals towards the French in the beginning of the novel to complete rebellion by the end. And all of this is interspersed with a love story and magical realism concerning an island where dead people go to and turn into dragonflies. It really opens up a new world unknown to even most Malayalis, where French words are sprinkled in between Malayalam sentences to sound cool the way we use English today and where French aristocrats have to use Malayalam to get their kids to wake up. Some of it sounds jarring and outright weird to Malayali ears.
Mon petite! Mon petite! Ezhunekkoo! Samayam vaiki! Mon petite! Translation - Mon petite! Mon petite! Wake up! It's late already! Mon petite!
Aadujeevitham or Goat Days by Benyamin - as promised, here is the most famous and most sold book in Malayalam. I really really hope at least some of you recognize this from the recent movie Aadujeevitham or Goat Life starring Prithviraj. If not, see the trailer and get an idea of what this book is like. It's fairly recent, from 2008, and is single handedly responsible for rejuvinating Malayalam literature after almost a decade of hibernation. Benyamin became an overnight sensation and a household name with this novel, and It's probably the most read Indian novel in any language. So Aadujeevitham which literally means Goat Life is based on the true story of a man named Najeeb who travelled to Saudi Arabia after he was promised a job by a friend. But at the airport he is basically tricked by an smelly fat Arab into a truck and taken to a goat farm in the middle of the desert. What follows is a tale of survival spanning 4 years of animal-like living herding goats in the middle of nowhere. Najeeb has no access to actual food, and has to dip Khuboos in water pretending it's curry, has no access to toilets and must clean himself after excretion using sand, and has no access to new clothes or shaving. The novel explores the slow devolution of a man into a barely recognizable beastlike figure, living among goats, losing his status as a human and becoming synonymous with a goat. Now how does a human go from that to running across the desert for 4 days to escape? Read the novel and find out. Every Indian must read this honestly, it's quite horrible when it really sinks into you that this shit happened. With the movie recently we got quite a lot of interviews with the original man, and it blew away so many Malayalis that some of the most horrible stuff that happens in the novel wasn't made up, that it actually happened.
The next is the last novel I'll recommend. It's from 2009 but I didn't keep it till the end because of its recency. I kept it at the end because this novel created shockwaves in the Malayalam literary community, became a very controversial book, and ended up as a sensation among the youth. This novel is credited with bringing back or introducing so many young Malayalis (including me, this is the first Malayalam novel I read) into Malayalam literature. But fair warning, this really may not be for you.
Francis Itty Cora by T.D. Ramakrishnan - Possibly the most fascinating novel I have ever read in my life. You will either love this, or hate this. I'll tell you the premise in simple words:
There are 18 secret families, whose members are some of the wealthiest people in the world, spread all over the globe who are tied to ancient rituals and satanic sex cults, protecting secret texts and scriptures, They basically control the world. All of this is interspersed with a clusterfuck of a historical mystery involving the Indian origins of calculus, Cleopatra, Florence, Fibonacci and Hypatia, and how there’s nothing in common with any of these except for the fact that all of these elements are mysteriously connected to a single 15th century pepper trader from Kerala named Francis Itty Cora. Read that again.
Still interested? The novel opens with a young American man named Xavier Itty Cora, a war veteran, who has been having erectile dysfunction ever since he sexually assaulted a girl in Iraq. He seeks help to regain his sexual health from three college girls in Kerala running a makeshift sex resort, who begin suspecting his real intentions for contacting them out of anyone else in the world. It is revealed that Xavier Itty Cora had gotten to know that his family descends from a 15th century Christian pepper trader from Kerala named Francis Itty Cora who travelled around the world and started 18 families. The three college girls set out on a hunt to find the real truth about this man all the while being chased by a secret family that still worships him as his god. Now if that does not excite you, you probably won't like it. But personally, this novel ruined Da Vinci Code for me, as every Dan Brown novel I read after this just felt stupid and dumb compared to the sheer breadth and scope of this novel. T.D. Ramakrishnan uses history to not just give you a kick, but every mystery, every detail he adds is there to support his basic thesis that violence and lust is the driving force behind human civilisation.
I hope this post was helpful in showing you the insane diversity of Malayalam literature there is. It's not a monolith, Indian languages are whole literary traditions of themselves and not just niches or small genres compared. I wrote this hoping to start a chain reaction in this subreddit, and I expect more such posts on every other Indian language from you fellow readers. Happy reading!

Weekly palette: Roman Empire
How often do you think about the Roman Empire?
This trend went a bit out of hand between me and my friend who is a historian... Of the Roman Empire. So, just when I thought about this weeks theme, he did send me a roman meme and yeah, the theme was set.
Blood - PMGL "Blitz Flame" Blood and the sand of the arena, blood of the people of conquered lands, blood of the Caesars who were murdered, blood of the slaves...
Olives - Lethal Cosmetics "Habitat" Olives, what is more roman? Also this green stands for the prosperity of the roman empire.
Bronze Statues - PMGL "Bronze Rose 005" Roman bronze survived in all forms and shapes, the statues still inspire us to image how their life was, the coins show the faces of the Emperors.
Earth - PMG "Nocturne" Fertile Roman earth, farming, grain fields and the hunger for more land. Agriculture was of primary importance to the ancient Romans. They also improved agricultural methods and spread these improvements to Roman settlements in the provinces.
Caesar - Clionadh "Corrosion" Representing the greed and power hunger, but also the multifacetted positives. In the end it's not all gold that sparkles and corrosion from the inside is what ended their reign.
Please bear with me for crappy swatch pictures! I couldn't really capture the sparkle or the shifting of "Corrosion".

2024.05.20 14:17 nashashmi "The Palestinians have more Jewish DNA than today’s Jews" as per David Ben Gurion

In 1918, a Yiddish book by David Ben Gurion and Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, Eretz Yisrael in the Past and Present, was published in New York by the Poale Zion Palestine Committee. Ben Gurion writes about Palestine and its people and its ancient History.
Contrary to the myth of the ancient expulsion of Jews from Palestine:
The Jewish farmer, like any other farmer, was not easily torn from his soil, which had been watered with his sweat and the sweat of his forebears … Despite the repression and suffering, the rural population remained unchanged. (Link)
Contrary to the myth of Palestinians being Arabs:
Historical reason indicates that the population [Palestinians] that survived since the seventh century had originated from the Judean farming class that the Muslim conquerors had found when they reached the country. (Link)
Palestinians being more Jewish is supported by an Israeli writer (Ber Borochov):
The local population in Palestine is racially more closely related to the Jews than to any other people, even among the Semitic ones. It is quite probable that the fellahin in Palestine are direct descendants of the Jewish and Canaanite rural population, with a slight admixture of Arab blood (Link)
Contrary to the myth of malice of Arab Conquerors, David Ben Gurion also writes:
“The fellahin are not descendants of the Arab conquerors, who captured Eretz Israel and Syria in the seventh century CE. The Arab conquerors did not destroy the agricultural population they found in the country. They expelled only the alien Byzantine rulers and did not touch the local population. Nor did the Arabs go in for settlement. Even in their former habitations, the Arabians did not engage in farming … They did not seek new lands on which to settle their peasantry, which hardly existed. Their whole interest in the new countries was political, religious and material to rule, to propagate Islam and to collect taxes”. (Link)
Sources: Eretz Yisrael in the Past and Present (ameinu.net); Blood is Thicker Than Water … ‘Welcome Home’! (linkedin.com)
So now I ask all of you here, what is the reason for the propagation of myths that the land was empty before the Jews came over, or the Arabs came after the Jews came, or the Palestinians are really Arab conquerors, or that there is no such thing as Palestinian? What is the reason for the spread of lies here on this forum? Why do we argue for how illegitimate is the title of the Palestinians to the land?
