2024.05.21 15:56 WeakWatercress5479 What score is ideal for a student in this situation? (admins read P.S. pls)

If I wait around for someone who actually has knowledge about this topic, I'll prob get a reply by the time I'm graduating from uni so don't hesitate to answer my question after you read and get a general picture of the situation I'm in, whoever you are.
Unlike pretty much everyone else, I'm not taking the SAT for applying to a Uni/College in the US. I'm gonna use it to apply to a school in Istanbul, Turkey.
I'm Turkish, I live in Turkey and in our country we have a national university exam. It's the kinda exam that consumes students' joy of life throughout 12th grade and in terms of level of difficulty, SAT is nothing compared to it. It's the product of a corrupt system anyway; on average, turkish students who take the test are able to answer only 7 questions of math out of 40. It's literally designed for failure; the questions are meant to be unperceived. And if you wanna study in Turkey (which I do) or if you, financially, don't have a chance to study abroad, you gotta study hard and take it. But I learned that those of us who have another citizenship, other than the Turkish one, have alternatives. I was born in the US therefore have a USA citizenship. I'm a dual citizen. The alternative way for me is renouncing my Turkish citizenship, becoming American only, taking the SAT and applying with the score I get from it, as if I'm a foreigner who wishes to study here. Anyone who has such chance would jump on it and that's what I'm doing. But since this is a procedure that's done so rarely, what I must achieve to guarantee acceptance isn't so clear. This kinda leaves me in an uncertainty. I was able to find the minimum scores some universities I'm considering, require for applying: A uni requires min. 1200 (min. 650 from Maths), another one requires min. 1100 (min. 550 from Maths), another requires min. 1300 (min. 680 from Maths). The reason why they also have requirements specifically for the Math section of the SAT is bcuz the major I want to study is Architecture, that's why. Anyway, a college I'm also considering requires 1000 (min. 600 from the Maths) for application. I have two other colleges in mind but I just can't find the base points they necessitate. I know that my worries probably seem unnecessary when you look at these numbers cuz they're not too exaggerated but there are some important points that must be taken into consideration, as well: The Turkish Ministry of Education has established a certain quota for studying Architecture as a foreign student. And as if that quota isn't limitating enough, schools themselves are given the freedom to reduce that quota as they wish, so they do! Consequently, the quotas of the Architecture programs of these schools I'm looking into, range from 3 to 40, in a country with a population of 85 million lol (One of these published quotas is 3 students, another is 4, another's 15, another's 30 and another one's 40). But that's not all; also, they're not obligated to fill that quota they determine, to the brim, so they don't! Additionally, there's the fact that these are only the D-SAT scores that are required for applying (u need a score higher than the established minimums so that they don't immediately throw ur application in the trash can). It's not like u can start packing once your SAT score exceeds those published min.s. The way I see it, there's no guarantee of anything unless you get a score as high as 1400, 1500 or a perfect 1600. But obvi I'm not sure if "the way I see it" is accurate. So I wanted to ask you redditors about your thoughts. What do you think??
Approx. what score would be ideal in ur opinion?
Thank you in advance :)
(P.S. this doesn't count as a question that's asking smth like "is my score good?". Look, ik that this is a very rare situation but it's not technically 'personal'. Therefore, it obeys the no. 5 rule of this community and shouldn't be getting taken down.)
(P.P.S. This is a question from which's answers, any Turkish student planning to apply to uni/college through the foreigners quota with their SAT score, can benefit from. That's because all of the aforementioned problems, such as the quotas of schools being too small, apply to all the other majors that aren't Archi., as well.)

2024.05.21 15:56 com6491 Should High School Change Cirriculum to Boost State Test Pass Rates?

I am a science teacher at a small high school in Virginia where all students are supposed to take Biology 1 by the end of 10th grade. Currently we teach Earth Science in 9th grade and Environmental Science as an elective. It seems like most schools in Virginia have made Environmental Science (half biology, half earth science) their mandatory 9th grade class (no state standardized testing for it) and Earth Science as an elective.
Bio 1 and Earth Science both have standardized tests and my school asked for my opinion about make the same change. The logic is that our accreditation is based on the pass rate percentages for these state tests and by teaching Envi Sci in 9th we are helping prepare them for biology. Also, if we don't make everyone take Earth Science, more students will pass that test too and our pass percentage will be higher.
My problem with this (and what I'm looking for opinions on) is that it's changing what students will learn. It seems like our state has decided that biology matters and all other science classes are secondary. Making this change will take the number of students who take Earth Science from 100% to probably closer to 30%-40%. It just feels wrong to me to play their numbers game at the expense of our children's education. Am I being foolish?

2024.05.21 15:50 PrisBatty Gynaecological question please

Hello, please could any of you help me. I’m 46F, 152lbs non smoker, asthmatic.
I had the mirena coil put in on the 2nd October 2022. After one week of very mild cramps I suddenly had horrific pain, reminiscent of being in labour (I have two children) except without breaks in between contractions. It was so bad I had to get my TENS machine out and was breathless with pain.
I returned to the clinic where they said the coil had pushed a polyp through my cervix. They removed the coil and the polyp and biopsies the polyp (all clear). My pain levels improved to the point where I could now stand up and speak and appear ok, but they remained really quite severe.
Over the months additional issues have occurred which my doctor believes is fibromyalgia and IBS due to the stress of the pain and chronic migraines. My eyesight has dimmed and my hands have become clumsy, dropping pots and pans and knives while cooking and chopping.
It’s now roughly 19 months later and I’m still in severe pain. Every test so far has been clear. I have had an ultrasound and a transvaginal ultrasound, an x-ray, a CT scan of my abdomen, an MRI of my head, blood tests for everything including autoimmune, a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, plus a hysteroscopy and an endometrial pipelle sample taken.
Nobody can see any reason why I’m in such pain, although they’ve all been very nice. They’re talking about a laparoscopy next which I don’t really want. I have a kid with disabilities to take care of. This all started with the coil and I feel it has to have something to do with that.
My pain is all encompassing, it feels like permanently being in labour, with that same sense of urgency. It is hard to find any joy or interest in life and I’m literally just enduring every day. I’ve been given amytripaline which helped the pain for the first two months but now isn’t doing very much to help.
Thank you for any insight or suggestions you might have. I’m quite desperate at this point.

2024.05.21 15:43 kingadrenaline Recent Grad starting a New Job

Starting a Job after college with a lot of travel. I recently graduated college as a Civil Engineer. I've accepted a job offer as a Geotechnical Engineer. The job requires me too drive to different construction sites within the Philadelphia/NJ area from King Of Prussia doing inspections and testing.
I would also need a car capable enough to drive around on this construction sites. I will also be transporting testing equipment and samples and need good cargo space.
I'm looking for a car with good mileage because of the extra travel, we recently got a electric car charger installed at the house and was thinking about getting a PHEV.
The job pays higher range in the 60 thousands and I have about 28k in debt, l'm striving to pay that off in a year and half. I'm living at home with the parents until I do and don't have any other payments.
What car would be feasible for me capabilities and budget wise.
Additional information, I will be reimbursed 0.68 a mile and might drive around 500 miles a week I'm not totally sure. I'm trading in my 2016 Nissan Rogue.

2024.05.21 15:29 The_Better_Devil Moderation Update: Thank you and goodbye

Hey ya'll, it's Devil, your friendly neighborhood mod man again... though I won't be called that for much longer here.
Thank you
First of all, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you. The past few months have been incredibly troubling for us all, but you guys have made it easier to find my way through it. The community and the podcast will always hold a special place in my heart. For three and a half years I have worked as a mod of FUCKFACEPOD to build a thriving community of comment leavers. In that time we have done incredible things together.
We left our mark on Place in 2022, we held meetups at RTX, the mod team even tried streaming for Extra Life one year. And when the company was closing down around us, and we moved to a new subreddit, we quickly built a brand new space full of the same joy and humor that defined the old subreddit. However... this will unfortunately be my last stop.
It is with deep sorrow that I tell you all that I have been removed from the moderation team of this subreddit. After three and a half years, I will no longer be a moderator here for subreddit. I am so incredibly proud of this community and how far we have come. I will be forever grateful to the podcast, and to all of you for the memories and the laughter you guys gave to me.
But this isn't goodbye forever. I'll still be hanging around the subreddit as a regular ol comment leaver. I also will continue to moderate for SoAlrightPod so go check out that place. I will also continue modding for roosterteeth at least for now, though I do plan on leaving that one soon.
Goodbye
To ANEGGG I say thank you. I cannot overstate the impact Rooster Teeth has had in my life. From my very first Achievement Hunter video in 8th grade, to the final episode of the Rooster Teeth Podcast. You guys are what ignited my passion for creating things, and you're what pushed me to pursue a degree in Film. Seeing you guys pop up in the subreddit has always been a joy (Eric's comments are always fucking hilarious) and I was overjoyed when I got to meet some of you at RTX 22/23. Thank you.
To the OG mods of FUCKFACEPOD I say thank you. Some of you have only been mods for a months before we had to switch subreddits and you all adapted to the change wonderfully. The rest of you have been in the game almost as long as I have. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to have worked with, nor better friends to accompany me. Thank you.
And finally, to the community I say thank you. I've had some pretty dark moments over the past few years, but being able to come to this subreddit and laugh at whatever random bullshit was happening has always managed to pull back into the light. I say this of not just the F**k Face/Regulation Pod community but for the wider Rooster Teeth community as well. Thank you.
I leave you now with this Spotify playlist I made.
Reminiscing
Now if you'll forgive me, I'd like to do some reminiscing about my time here:
Goodbye

I got a score of 1260 out of 1600, in May D-SAT (640 from the Reading and Writing Section and 620 from the Math Section). I'm taking it again in the 1st of July. 2024.05.21 15:23 mmm123124 Help understanding requirements

Help understanding requirements
Hi! I live in Indiana and recently posted trying to understand the requirements to become a school counselor here. I’m trying to find the most affordable option, and I know that the easiest option would be to find a cacrep approved school counselor or social work masters degree here locally but those are looking like they will cost near 40,000.
If i pursued a Masters of Arts in elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education, would I be able to do remaining coursework to meet these Indiana requirements? What would that look like? Additionally, i could pursue WGU and get a masters of science in education in curriculum and instruction and then finish remaining coursework later on. These options would be considerably cheaper, but im confused on if that would work in the long run. Please tell me if im misunderstanding!

She tells me that it’s my fault she’s overweight. She tells me that my friends don’t care about me and that they’re not really my friends. She tells me my family don’t love me and i’ll never be good enough for them. She tells me that nobody will love me like she does. She tells me that it’s my fault my dad cries every night. She tells me to just get over my anxiety like she did. She tells me that i make her life hard. I heard her yell at my dad that she hated us both. She compares me to my friends , looks and grades. She tells me that if my dad dies it’ll be my fault and she’ll never speak to me again. She always “reminds” me to wear an arm cover that she bought me to cover up my scars , even though i didn’t want it. She tells me i’m not good enough and could do better , every time i get a good score on a test. She tells me that I need to be the best to succeed in life. She tells me i’m a disappointment. I didn’t get a good enough grade to get into latin classes at school, she felt the need to rub it in by sending me messages in Latin. I’m not allowed to be upset about things she has said because according to her she never said any of these things and that i’m accusing her of being a bad mum. But then other times she’s really nice to me. I don’t know what to believe anymore, i always have to be cautious around her that i just avoid her at this point. I miss a lot of school because i’m scared to go, and she acts caring but also judgmental . I can’t talk to teachers because i don’t trust them from past experiences and i don’t go to school anyway. I can’t talk to my friends because i don’t trust them, i can’t tell them anything about me or my life because when i do they twist the information and tell teachers things that aren’t true. I can’t talk to my family either because they don’t care. I feel so trapped.

2024.05.21 15:16 brainykid Animo, Benilde!

Hi!👋🏽 I am an incoming frosh at De La Salle College of Saint Benilde in the BSBA-HRM program. I live in the province and I am new to Manila.
If any fellow senior Benildeans see this post, I have a few questions about what to expect at Benilde and what not to expect.
▫️As a freshman student in the BSBA-HRM program (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Human Resource Management), where will my campus be located? Is it in the SDA building? ↘️ (follow-up question): ➖ If my campus is located in the SDA building (if ever), is it required to always enter the main building instead of going straight to the specific school building?
◽️Are there different designs for the school ID lanyards?
◽️As a freshman, what things are suggested to bring on the first day of class?
◽️What are the unique attributes of Benilde that make the school stand out?
◽️As an incoming 1st-year college freshman, what is the estimated class schedule?
◽️How is the grading system; is it five being the highest and one being the lowest or vice versa?
any additional comments, tips, and suggestions are welcome. 💚

2024.05.21 15:16 Cute-Solid-5636 You're probably wrong about crop rotation harvest

So the popular notion is that it's best to reduce yellow crops as much as possible, so that there is 1 huge crop, well, here I am to challenge that view, hear me out.
Obviously I'm not going to argue that having as much yellow as possible is the way, instead, we want perfect balance, from what I've observed, the best thing to happen is to have around 3-4 yellow crops, and the rest of different colours, now I loosely observed, that boosting a single crop of colour works rather underwhelmingly, it seems that the more you upgrade it the less later upgrades impact the overall outcome (as I've said it's a loose observation, don't have any concrete data to back that up). Furthermore, if you happen to stumble across any video of like 20/30k+ juice harvest, it's bound to have more than 1 yellow crop (since the most you can get on a single crop is probably around 20 tier 3s and 5 tier 4s*, which in itself with 200%+ quant would be around 15k juice).
*that still requires a lot of luck not only with the crops not wilting but with the upgrades themselves
So I firmly believe that every upgrade of 1 colour is best utilised by multiple crops of said colour (probably 3-4 for the most efficient combo) since the upgrading potential of multiple crops is superior to single crop (due to aforementioned reverse snowball effect ((although not entirely confirmed))) even if it means less upgrades overall.
So I don't have any specific data in which I could isolate the factors and confirm that more yellow crops = better, since it's still heavily rng based, but from what I've run the best combination on atlas tree seems to be 3x purple reduced (reducing purple cause it's cheaper than blue) and 1x reduced yellow - I averaged 6,6k yellow juice in 100 maps, whereas with 3x reduced yellow I averaged 6,1k (it really could be due to pure rng, but I believe sample size of 100 maps should be enough)
So let me know what do you think about it, maybe someone did some more rigorous testing and observations.
