How are my stats for applying so far?

Greetings. I just wrapped up my undergrad in Biology. I am not looking to apply this cycle, but the next one (2 gap years), and I was looking at what actions I could take to improve my application. These are my stats so far, but I also included the projected stats by the time I apply. I am currently studying for the MCAT and plan on taking it this summer. During the course of the next year, I plan on continuing to work at my two clinical jobs, getting more volunteer experience, and getting more shadowing experience. My hours will only increase during the application cycle too, so it will actually be higher by the time I get into medical school. My main concern is my lower GPA

Clinical Volunteering - Hospice Volunteer: 53 hours (245+ hours projected by next cycle)

I 29F live with my mom, older brother by 6 yrs and 95yr old grandma. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety from about 20yrs old and have probably been living with it since I was a child but didn't know what it was. Since I was a child I have had a lot of responsibility placed on me as the "gifted kid" that would "save and protect" the family and hold it together. Now, I wasn't aware I was being put into that role until I got to live and work abroad and had some time to reflect and also talk to peers to realise that most people don't live their childhood, teens and twenties supporting their family of adults - especially not as the youngest member of the household.
That job abroad felt like it was the first time doing something for myself and by myself but quickly became supporting the family financially and at every beck and call from abroad. My mom would vent to me about whatever is daunting on her emotionally, stressing her financially etc and being so used to it - I always made it become my problem to fix it. This lead to a problem where, I have no savings, no property that isn't tied to/shared with someone else, and I am constantly mentally drained and emotionally exhausted till I just don't have the mental capacity to work on my own goals and aspirations. Further stressing me out is I actually have a lot of big goals and aspirations and expectations I set to myself. Being so far behind, esp when it seems like its mostly not my fault (apart from my enabling it etc) doesn't do wonders for my mental health.
The usual pattern in my life is as soon as the slightest good thing happens, or even just a shift in my mental health (say motivation comes from somewhere and I really start to put plans into action) - something much worse happens that forces me back into my abyss. Except, it gets deeper and deeper every time. I'll spare you several examples.
So upon my realisation that I was probably "parentified", that my mom is far too reliant on me as a second breadwinner and that I am functionally her husband - I wrote her a letter saying I was pulling the plug on all that, that they all needed to learn how to live without relying on me because I don't even want kids and don't see why I am supporting adults when I don't even live there at the moment. I was going to express that they are fundamentally holding me back and that it has to and would stop.
Unfortunately, before I could finish that letter, mom calls to say she was diagnosed with cancer. Now this too would be somehow my issue to fix cause my brother though working always made less than me and he was extremely unwilling to take care of mom. Even to just take her to doctors appointments he couldn't be bothered to do, preferring to just work instead. While I was abroad I had to ask my friends and mom had to ask her friends for that kind of support and I eventually hired a caregiver that I sent money back home (in addition to my usual financial aid). Eventually it would come to pass that mom would need chemo and the possibility she may not survive. I was afraid to come home lest all the burden of this naturally high stress situation fell on me - but at the same time what if she doesn't make it and I never saw her again?
I couldn't afford a roundtrip airfare and the arrangement with my job was if I terminated at the end of my contract without renewing I could go home at my employer's expense. I decided to quit and come home after a less than hopeful conversation with my mom's oncologist. This meant financially we'd be reliant on mom's regular burdened by debt income, her insurance and my brother's income (this never happened btw) to get by since I am now jobless.
What I feared happening happened exactly AND more! Not only did the caregiver I hired eventually walk off the job which made me mom's primary caregiver, her nurse, her chauffer, personal assistant and courier. I also became the housekeeper, the shot caller, the household manager, the cook, the plumber... you get the idea. On top of that, my brother would be a regular thorn in the side because he would throw tantrums when I needed the car to do things for mom (mom and I own the car but mom started to let him drive it while I was away since he recently got his license). He was highly uncooperative with handling his own personal responsibilities (eg taking care of his cats), as well as anything where I would need extra help with mom. My grandma also would complicate things ( she has always been a narcistic bitch and no one in the family likes her but mom insists she has to stay cause mom is a pushover - you see who I get it from yes. Grandma would actively compete with my mom for pity points, faking sickness, deliberately making herself sick, exerting herself unnecessarily to then feign weakness and guilt trip me - all because she wanted the same attention that I gave the cancer patient.
Mom too, would put me under emotional duress cause in all this she also wanted me to do everything and be happy about it even if I had to pretend. She would start to make demands, oddly specific meal requests of someone who does not cook at all, demand having access to me at all times of day, and if I were to take free time out of the house by myself, she would insist I need to do something for the house or for her while I was out esp if I was going to use her car (the car we both own, that when we bought she told me it was mine and the car that is officially willed to me - yes that one). We also had several arguments where I learned she always thought that cause I was the "smart one" she expected that I could be fully left to my devices and I'd turn out fine and she could rely on me to take care of my deadbeat, driven-less, lazy, lonely, woman-blaming incel and approaching sexually deviant brother after she eventually passes. Cause she is confident that he may never learn to fully adult. And she is likely right by her own fault was she coddles him and shields him from every form of consequence of his action or inaction and is very hesitant about any kind of tough love for him but when it comes to me - even with the slightest of things/benefits she will quickly withhold because "I am inherently more privileged" than he is.
In all of this, my friends when I reach out for support never want to show up. They don't want to deal with any of my problems. No one wants to let me stay even for a week to get a break from my household. Most of them anyway I can't even trust cause they see me as their scapegoat for female touch and affection and since I am no longer willing to pity their loneliness they have gone extremely cold and some try to skirt around touching me inappropriately when they're around me.
Now, I also live in a poor country where pay is always shit. I still only have a bachelors in something that pays extra shit at entry level esp in my country. Peers in my country have very different interests than me usually which is how I am still with the same circle of misfits I have from high school as friends. There's not really anything to do at home that interests me - career wise or entertainment wise. Which is why getting out was such a high priority. But as you can see that's always been and continues to be put on the back burner.
Now that mom is doing much better, its back to looking at exiting cause I will not ever feel better if I stay in this house or even in that country. And my family can thank themselves for finally pushing me to the point where I really don't care what happens to them once I am confidently gone.
So I have shit family, shit friends, no job, my family is actively trying to strip me of any kind of power or leverage with what I do own, changing the conversation as necessary if it means I stay trapped. All because I unfortunately expressed that I want out and that I am not of the opinion that family is everything or blood is thicker than water. Once I get a job, it probably won't pay well enough to rent and apparently the car I part own isn't really mine while I live in my mom's house (which is also legally, partially mine) by her logic. Public transit is very expensive, so if I rent without a car that's even more money I'd have to make. I'd also have to accept the risks that come with public transit in a murder-loving country esp a murder-against-women-loving country vs just brute forcing the mental trauma of staying at that pitiful excuse of a home.
This was a lot longer than planned and if you read all of that, thank you. Sincerely. If you have any tips on how to cope in a high stress, high pressure environment besides hobbies, meditation and exercise - enlighten me. If you skipped to the end, I am not doing a TLDR. I will just wish you blessings and I hope that your life is on a better trend than mine ever was.

There have been a lot of convos recently about VPR needing to break the fourth wall or that they've "finally broken the fourth wall" 🙄, but I think only Summer House is really breaking the fourth wall and I think that's because they all have actual jobs. In last season's reunion Paige was yelling at Carl and Lindsay about how they don't have jobs and everyone was up in arms that they do, the same job as Paige, influencers. But, and the merits of this can be argued but I'm not interested in arguing it, Paige really does have a job. She not only records an insanely popular podcast but she does social media content, has a sold out tour, merch and other influencer deals, and most importantly her podcast is NOT related to Summer House. All the VPR cast podcasts are about VPR. Giggly Squad is about everything BUT Summer House. West works for Complex. Jesse is in finance. Ciara is a model/nurse. Amanda and Kyle work at Loverboy which is a beverage manufacturing company. Danielle is a "CEO/Founder" (lmao) of an app. Carl and Lindsay truly are the only ones who just post content on Instagram for money. Which isn't the end of the world. So while being on a reality show lifts the cast's profiles and helps their careers move along, they have other things going on. And I believe that makes it easier for them to point out how the cameras are affecting their REAL lives, aka break the fourth wall, because they have real lives outside of being on a tv show. Carl being able to point out the cameras and how that forces conversations, or every time Kyle looks right at the camera when he's breaking down and goes ugh, when Carl and Lindsay wanted to leave the house early last summer and they showed the producer forcing them to stay and have a conversation. Summer House just benefits more from more truthful stories about how aware they are that they're on camera.
This is in comparison to the overproduced VPR, where everyone's livelihood is intrinsically tied to whether the show is renewed or people care about them talking about the show on a podcast. And it's so hard for them to break the fourth wall because then they would be pointing out they have NO incomes or prospects outside of filming a reality show. They can't talk about that the weird tension they're having is because they're all worried about their storylines because they think it will make the show feel weird.
ETA: I believe similar to the Office where they acknowledge the camera but it isn't their main focus, it adds a certain richness to the storytelling. Because yeah of course people will act differently when they know they're being filmed. Let's acknowledge that basic fact and move on to the actual action. What's not fun is like WWE, where you're very clearly watching someone perform for a camera and create a storyline, but you're supposed to pretend it's real life. that's what VPR and some of the housewives are doing now and it's not fun. Reality tv is supposed to be fun!

In March 2024, Reddit had an IPO (Initial Public Offering), and the founder and current CEO, as well as the COO have sold $500,000 of their shares. How does this effect you? Reddit may face pressure to increase revenues to attract investors. This could lead to more ads or new monetization features. There could also be changes to the platform to attract a wider user base, such as bans and censorship on certain topics or words and control over content to appease more conservative shareholders or users.

Advocating for Abortion Care in Canada:
- There is a serious lack of Abortion Care options in Canada, particularly in the rural areas, and for those living on reserves, they have almost no access to Abortion care. People may have to travel more than 100km and across provincial lines to access abortion. Some have to travel by plane from their rural community to one with an abortion clinic or hospital. This puts an unfair financial and logistical burden on those that need to access abortion care. Provincial Health Insurance Plans do not cover travel costs related to receiving medical care.
- Because many provinces have few facilities that provide Abortion care, this places an unreasonable load on the clinics that do exist, forcing clients to look elsewhere for facilities with capacity to help them. In Alberta, there is one clinic for every 209,077 people who can become pregnant (number of assigned-at-birth females between the ages of 15-29). PEI, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory each only have 1 Abortion care provider. Nunavut only has 2 abortion providers, and of those, only one offers medical abortion covered by the provincial health insurance plan. In fact, 9 (out of a total of 13) Canadian provinces and territories have five or fewer facililities offering abortion care in their entire province. And 10 Canadian provinces and territories have one or fewer (0) rural facililities offering abortion care.
- Some provinces, have more restrictive guidelines regarding abortion, limiting access to abortion care to those with a gestational period of less than 12 weeks (meaning, 12 weeks since the first day of your last period, not 12 weeks since you discovered you were pregnant or when you had sex). Many people who menstruate have irregular periods. Some people might only menstruate every 2 or 3 months, and might only discover that they are pregnant near the gestation limit of 12 weeks.
- Insurance coverage also limits access to abortions. Some provinces, like Nunavut, do not offer coverage for medical abortions unless they are prescribed and performed in a hospital. And being a rural province, there also happens to be only 1 hospital in Nunavut - Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqualuit. New Brunswick will only cover abortion services in a hospital setting, which means that abortion medical care provided in clinics are not covered by their Provincial Health Insurance Plan.
- Sexual and reproductive health services are among the services that physicians, pharmacists and nurse practitioners are most frequently unwilling to provide on moral or religious grounds. People who have been harassed and/or attacked while visiting an Abortion clinic may experience stigma and/or discrimination from their peers, especially in smaller, rural communities where everyone knows one another. People refused care by health care professionals because of personal beliefs may experience stigma and/or discrimination, forcing them to travel outside of their community to receive the care they need. This can all be particularly daunting for young people or those with limited resources.
- Everyone in Canada is supposed to have equal rights to access health care, regardless of race, age, class, immigration status, gender expression, sexuality and ability. Nevertheless, anyone's right to seek abortion care can be be impacted by discrimination and bigotry, both systemic and as a result of individual prejudice on the part of service providers. Racism, xenophobia, classism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and ageism in Canada are all direct and intersecting barriers to accessing abortion. It is much more difficult for a person who doesn\u2019t speak English to access abortion services, despite the presence of a translator. Transpeople also experience discrimination at higher rates in reproductive health care settings. Providers may also lack the knowledge or training to provide trans-affirming abortion care and abortion services are typically housed within *women\u2019s* health care departments.
- Further compounding the issue of inequitable abortion access are unregulated crisis pregnancy centres (CPCs), which are anti-choice pregnancy centres that advertise in hospitals, doctor's offices, churches, schools and community centre. They deceive people coming to them for options and advice by giving misinformation about abortion or by insisting on options that may delay or interfere with the clients ability to access the care they need. CPCs far outnumber abortion care providers in Canada. In Ontario alone, there are 77 active CPCs but only 38 abortion care providers. Overall, in Canada, there are 165 known CPCs compared to 147 abortion care providers (as of August 2022).
What can you do to improve access to abortion care in Canada?
- Listen, research and learn. This is always the first step to understand any problem.
- Send a letter to your MP and MPP. Tell them that access to abortion care is important and how difficult it can be to access it in your province. Urge them to prevent anti-choice groups and CPCs from receiving charitable status, and to revoke the charitable status from CPCs that already have it. Encourage them to include reasonable reimbursement for travel costs related to receiving medical care when it is not available in your community. And push them to pass Safe Access Zone Legislation to protect patients, practitioners and their staff from anti-choice harassment and intimidation.
- Give a donation to a pro-choice charitable organization of your choice. Remember, if you give a total of $201 CDN or more to Canadian charitable organizations, you'll get a credit of 29% of your total annual donations on your income taxes (for those that file Canadian Income Taxes, only).
- Sign up for the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada Newsletter. https://www.arcc-cdac.ca/
- Participate in local marches and rallys in support of access to abortion care.
- Spread the Word. Tell your friends and family. Encourage them to research, listen and learn. Encourage them to contact their MPP and MPs.
- If you work in a Doctor's office or as a family physician, consider incorporating Mifegymiso into your practice to ensure patients have timely access to this essential service. If you are a Doctor, or studying to be one, consider opening an Abortion Care practice when you are licensed and qualified to do so, especially in rural areas where there are a lack of options.
- If you work in politics, consider proposing legislation that will ensure safe access zones for abortion care providers and their clients and covering reasonable travel costs for constituents when medical care is not available in their community.
- If you are a journalist or work in media, consider preparing pieces sharing the difficulty Canadians can have accessing medical care such as abortions.
- If you work in the area of Not For Profit/Advocacy, consider partnering with a Pro-choice organization and helping them spread information and lobby for improving access to abortion care for Canadians.
- If you know someone who needs abortion care, consider giving them a ride to a clinic, helping them access the advice and care they need, and provide non-judgemental support.

Up until a few days ago I (39m) was dating/just establishing a relationship with a single mother (41f). We have been seeing each other for just over 2 months. Not a long time I know but the ease in which we connected really felt very unique and different than past relationships. A fact she acknowledged more than once. We share similar perspectives, find enjoyment in many of the same things, equally dorky and awkward. We really felt in sync.
I know the intensity of feelings I felt towards her were disproportionate, in a typical sense, to the amount of time we spent/knew each other. When speaking with friends I even said it was stupid I felt this strength of connection so quickly. I know it's easy to think I was naive or seeing things that weren't there, but I am confident that's not the case. There were real reciprocation of feelings and intensity in moments that we both identified. I think I communicate well, I am clear, and understanding, and a good listener. She really appreciated this quality and as such was very open and clear about her feelings towards me as well. Saying things like how she's never dated someone like me (I've been through some shit, did therapy, became pretty emotionally intelligent and self-reflective as a result), telling me how appreciative she is for me, gave me a card stating this on the day she started to pull back actually, how my touch gives her tingles. Straight up telling me a week before how she really likes me.
Yes we were intimate a few times. Intense and mutually satisfying, had improtu spicy chats during the day including the day before we last saw each other. On top of her words and discussions there were actions that also spoke to her really being serious about the connection we were developing. She happens to live right next to her parents and her sisters family. Now she could have kept me separate from all that, but she didn't. I met her sister pretty early on when having a date night at her house. Then a week later she invites me to her sister's house for a little BBQ, was an excellent night. And I ended up meeting her parents too. Not by happenstance either, but rather here come inside my parents house and say hello. And she was having conversations with her son about me and trying to get him comfortable with the idea of meeting me. I even helped her move appliances with her and her dad 3 days before the pull back and 1 week before she ended it. I even installed the washer and dryer for her, then encouraged her to go to an event for her son right after I got done, without me. I didn't do it for any other reason than I really liked her and acts of service are one of the ways I show how I care and it made me feel good to do it, to be there for her. This all has a certain connotation or level of seriousness in a relationship all in its own.
My emotions fed off of her words and actions, maybe my openness and honesty felt like a bit much at times, like I was oversharing. But it was honest and reciprocated every time. There were palpable moments of electricity between us.
Then came the pull back...she is a nurse who works 12 hour shifts and has shared custody of her son. I work a typical m-f schedule. So as we are building this whatever it was, spending time together was a challenge sometimes. I completely respect her keeping me separate from her son until the time was right, never pushed, always accepted that her role as a mother comes first.
So she asks me if I want to do dinner at my house for this past Tuesday. Tuesday is my golf night, but I made an effort to go to work early, leave early, get my match done early so we can have a nice evening. I even took the morning off in case we were up late, so we could maybe wake up next to each other and enjoy sometime together in the morning. She was really excited about this, or rather implied that she was. Even had the spicy talk the day before.
Then she arrives and I can tell something is off. Shes not as receptive to my touch, dynamic is off. After dinner we sit on the couch and she breaks down in tears. She's feeling like we are moving fast, she feels like our texting is taking away from time with her son, wants to dial it back. She has her son for a 5 day stint starting the next day, doesn't want to feel tethered to her phone, wants to feel present. Okay, I get it, respect it, no problem at all. She then tells me about how her divorce went down, kind of wild and not exactly how she made it seem at first. She definitely still is working through that stuff and the ex dynamic is poor and I think he bullies her and knows her buttons. I straight up told her that if I was her partner I would be there and defend her and not let his bullshit slide (maturely, I'm 40 and don't need to be physical). She did say a few times that she was always waiting for the other shoe to drop with us because of her past relationship trauma. But guys, I have no other shoe. I'm a god damn gentleman doing his best to operate in a time when women are more independent, and I support it and respect it.
I send her an email the following day apologizing if I came in to strong, I believe in what we are building, I respect boundaries and her and all her terrific attributes. She responds by saying it was beautiful and she looks forward to moving forward with me. I also suggest phone calls or Video chats in lieu of texting moving forward. And I assured her I didn't need to be in contact 24/7 and that I like my independence as well.
Over the next couple days I let her lead the conversation. If she texted I responded. Typically it wasn't immediately but within 15 minutes unless I myself was busy. I wouldn't try and engage in long discussions. Just little check ins it seemed like. Then her text style changed again, less frequent, no emoji, no real engagement from her in to my activities. I felt it coming.
She was ill over these past few days with bronchitis and was having her period, she felt cruddy and I felt bad I couldn't be there for her like I wanted to. I would ask how she was doing, if she needed anything. Her response was that I was sweet but she could manage. But she began to not ask me about what I was up to, or really engage much at all.
Saturday she ends it, says she hasn't really put all her focus on being a mom since her divorce (4 years ago), she made some relationship mistakes post divorce, still healing, really wants to be there for her son (kid sounds amazing btw). But okay, yeah I am bummed but I respect it. What else can I do right? Kid comes first, I get it.
But you know what really bothered me is that when asked about what we were felt for each other, if it was real, she denies we had this special connection and that she thinks she was forcing it....so my long winded question here is... After all that, does that sound like she was forcing it? She said she felt there was an incompatibility but couldn't identify what it was. She's sorry for leading me on, then tells me not to lose her number. Like wtf? I think she is either lying to herself to make herself feel better or there is something else going on. My hypothesis is that our potential scared her, she doesn't want to get big time hurt again and is anxious about it and somebody put the bug in her ear that the feelings she is having is because she is forcing it (she mentioned a comment a coworker made to this extent about it being forced because she wasnt as giddy as she had been, I think she was fearful and this person labeled it as force). I say this because it all doesn't make sense, I am probably wrong, help me make sense of this, please.
Tl;Dr built a wicked connection with a woman, have evidence it wasn't one sided, special connection, met her parents, installed her appliances, got dumped a week later and was told it wasn't real but forced.

Hello,
I posted here a while ago. I'm married (1 year) to my DW (together for 5 years). She has SS (12), who is severely disabled. No walking, talking, eating by himself, wears a diaper etc. He sits in a wheelchair but has to have support on his chest with a belt so he doesn't fall over.
When I got together with DW, he was with us every other weekend. BM decided a year ago it was to much for her and now he is with us every other week. I support DW with everything I can, finances, doing more housework, sometimes I feed or even wash him. I don't watch over him alone because he has severe epilepsy and his seizures are really heavy.
I feel bad a lot of times because I can't really care for him in a medical way (and, to be honest, I don't want this responsibility). DW is exhausted, she is working every other week full time and when he is here part time.
We have nurses who go to school with him and care for him after school till DW comes home. Recently it is hard to find new nurses because one got pregnant and the last few where not able to care for him properly.
BM still get's full child support, because here in my country child services help with calculating the amount of child support, but they are very slow. I told DW to go to a lawyer but she is kind of procrastinating on contacting one. I understand she is very stressed and has so much to organize, but because of that she struggles financially. I support the best I can, and she doesn't want me to support her more, but we can't do stuff we did before and it makes me sad.
In the past I tried to suggest solutions but often DW get's angry with that. I said maybe there are residental home who take him part time, and he is where at the weekend, but she said she doesn't want me to "plant this thought inside her head".
BM is only coping with the situation because she is living off child support and has every other week for herself,, she doesn't have a job.
It makes me angry but my suggestions always end in an argument.
So I read about nachoing and I recently began to just listen to DW and say something like "Oh, this sounds hard." or "Tell me if I can do anything for you". But I don't take action by myself. I still do most of the cooking, groceries, cleaning, organization etc. I also bought SS some clothes. But I'm not always there, "nagging" to find a lawyer. I just listen and then I kind of...push away the thought and do my thing.
I feel very bad because I see DW getting more exhausted every day and I think she will get a "caregiver burnout". We have a few couple moments and I enjoy them. But sometimes, when DW has to stay at home when SS condition is very bad, I visit another friend or my family or do something outside the house...I feel bad for letting her alone with him. Because, you can't really interact with him. Yes, he grabs your hand or a toy and he laughs sometimes. But beside that, he is just not able to really do...anything. You can interact, but his ability to respond is very limited and it makes you feel like talking to yourself.
I sound like a big *** but I just don't want my life to be miserable. I love DW and love couple time, but nachoing is the only approach with which I can cope with this situation.

BM still get's full child support, because here in my country child services help with calculating the amount of child support, but they are very slow. I told DW to go to a lawyer but she is kind of procrastinating on contacting one. I understand she is very stressed and has so much to organize, but because of that she struggles financially. I support the best I can, and she doesn't want me to support her more, but we can't do stuff we did before and it makes me sad.
In the past I tried to suggest solutions but often DW get's angry with that. I said maybe there are residental home who take him part time, and he is where at the weekend, but she said she doesn't want me to "plant this thought inside her head".
BM is only coping with the situation because she is living off child support and has every other week for herself,, she doesn't have a job.
It makes me angry but my suggestions always end in an argument.
So I read about nachoing and I recently began to just listen to DW and say something like "Oh, this sounds hard." or "Tell me if I can do anything for you". But I don't take action by myself. I still do most of the cooking, groceries, cleaning, organization etc. I also bought SS some clothes. But I'm not always there, "nagging" to find a lawyer. I just listen and then I kind of...push away the thought and do my thing.
I feel very bad because I see DW getting more exhausted every day and I think she will get a "caregiver burnout". We have a few couple moments and I enjoy them. But sometimes, when DW has to stay at home when SS condition is very bad, I visit another friend or my family or do something outside the house...I feel bad for letting her alone with him. Because, you can't really interact with him. Yes, he grabs your hand or a toy and he laughs sometimes. But beside that, he is just not able to really do...anything. You can interact, but his ability to respond is very limited and it makes you feel like talking to yourself.
I sound like a big *** but I just don't want my life to be miserable. I love DW and love couple time, but nachoing is the only approach with which I can cope with this situation.

So, my wife and I had a baby five months ago. This had been very demanding for my wife, with everything that comes with it. I do try to do my part, but my wife finds that I do not do enough. And I'll be honest, she wakes up most of the times during the night, mostly because I am a deep sleeper and it takes me longer to hear the baby. The result is that my wife is very very tired from sleep deprivation, breastfeeding, work and the ordinary chores that also have to be done. The unfortunate result is that we fight more than I feel is necessary. On top of this comes that last year I have been diagnosed with ASD, I have limited capacity for gauging her needs or emotions. This weekend we where having a couple of good days, working like a team and being in love. Come Saturday her mood shifted due to being very tired. She was breastfeeding and as I normally do I brought her a glas of water since hydrating is very important, especially when nursing a baby. I suppose I placed it where she could not reach it, because a short while later the glass came flying through the room towards the kitchen where I was tidying up and she yelled that it was 'so typically for me to place it out of reach'. I was quite shaken by this and I really had to take a breather not to get mad. I did get sad though and turned silent. When she finished breastfeeding we got in the car to visit my mother who was in the hospital for an infection (she is home now and on antibiotics and doing better). While driving I told her that her behaviour was very difficult for me and I asked her not to do it again. She did not reply. When we came tot the hospital I told her I could really use a hug, but she told me no and that she had not heard a kind word from me all day. That also hurt me quite bad. The fact that she would not react to me about throwing the glass, and what she said about me not saying anything nice made me emotional collapse inward. Ever since we have been in bad standing, and, admittedly, the rest of that day I have ignored her and been busy with a hobby of mine. Yesterday she went to see her grandmother and took the baby with her. So here we are, I am sad, she is, I presume, both sad and angry and gets more angry every time I try to talk to her because I bring up that her actions hurt me and she calls me selfish for that and says that I don't support her, which is is extra hard because she shuts me out.

I was left in handcuffs from the moment I was arrested ( Saturday night ) until Monday afternoon when I attended court. I have a drugs marker and I refused an intrusive search. I have done them multiple times in the past. But last time I got so annoyed that I googled my rights and found out they need a warrant for such a search. So I exercised my right for once. Only because pulling back your foreskin is degrading and humiliating. I had no problem squatting and spreading my cheeks. They left me in handcuffs for 34 hours and at some points I would wake up with my hand being fully numb. Thankfully there was no permanent nerve damage. Also read that the search will be done by a healthcare professional either a doctor or a nurse of the same gender. They have no male doctors or nurses that work at the station so even if I informed them that I know the law I would have been given the same treatment. I now know that this is the treatment I will receive anytime I am arrested and feel this is unjust I was very respectful to staff and showed no anger or aggression. How can I combat this treatment for future endeavours. I had Nothing to hide its principal and I will repeat my actions even if it’s a Friday and bank holiday Monday.

So, in May 2023, my friend (Em f23) and I (f28) had a conversation that started off friendly. Just chit-chat and funny anecdotes from the day. She brought up a situation with her coworker she enjoyed. It involved tourettes and one of her coworkers' specific tics.
I made a comment that I genuinely didn't think much of at the time. It was just some trivia I knew of and thought was interesting. Specifically that people with tourettes can 'catch' or involuntarily copy tics from other people with tourettes. It's something I learned from watching content made by people with tourettes. She made a comment like, "Maybe it's not like that, in this specific situation with my coworker."
Here's where I should have realised she was not interested in my trivia. What I definitely didn't realise was that it in fact made her mad, but I kept pushing anyways because I felt I was correct, that the coworker had picked up the tic from a well know streamer because it was literally identical. Em then stopped answering, after a couple hours of silence I asked her if she was actually mad about what I said and she responded with "Its fucking fine." Cue her not talking to me at all for 3 days. On the third day, she said we needed to have a sit-down conversation about boundaries because she "is having big feelings." her words, not mine.
I was so confused about what would have triggered her wanting to talk about boundaries when the conversation we had was a mild disagreement at worst. I would understand if I said something offensive, but I literally just said a fact and my opinion on her coworker, I didn't try to force her to agree, and there's proof of the streamer with that specific tic so it wasn't like I was lying to be able to one up her or something? I don't know, this whole part of the situation is incredibly confusing to me because she never talked about why that conversation triggered her to give me the silent treatment in the first place or how it led her to wanting to talk about boundaries. In the end, the boundaries she talked about much much later had nothing to do with this conversation even though it seemed to be what caused her to want boundaries. Idk, I'm still very confused about what actually caused her to want to have the discussion after the three days of silence and a minor disagreement.
At this point, still May 2023, I was in severe pain, but I did not know it was cancer yet. I was barely making it through each day with how much I was in pain. The tumor is in my leg, growing out of the top portion of my tibia in a way that has made the tibial platue hollow, or essentially a whisper thin shell of bone filled with slime, sorry but that's the best way to describe it. At any moment, my surgeon told me this later, I could have broken that thin bone and had a collapsed knee joint. I say this so you you know when I talk about pain here, I'm talking excruciating levels of pain.
So walking specifically and everything else was extremely painful, and that was taking a lot of energy and brain space. I told her I was in a ton of pain. I was exhausted and barely scraping by just to keep working while waiting for my doctors visits to hopefully figure out what was wrong. I said I would try to find a day to have "the talk," but things just kept getting worse. By the end of July I had seen four different doctors, three of which thought I was just trying to get drugs, the last one was an orthopedic doctor and she took two minutes of looking at an xray and another minute of looking at my leg to say I most likely had a tumor.
The official on paper diagnosis came in September because of the waiting time to meet with the surgeon, but we knew it was a tumor in August. I was put on essentially bed rest from august to the day I had surgery September 27th. I told Em about the tumor the day I got the MRI results which I had in mid August to prepare for the appointment with the surgeon. Her response was extremely upsetting to me.
Em: "That's a lot to deal with. The possibility of having a malignant tumor is scary and can make you really question life. When you're put into a situation like that, it forces you to look back on your life and reevaluate. You find out what you really want out of life and what you waisted too much time dealing with. That's really tough. I'm sorry I made you feel like you couldn't talk to me about your pain. Being more supportive of each other was something I wanted to talk about. Hopefully, you have a sweet and easy recovery."
That response hurt, it felt like she was saying I had a lot to regret in life and like I didn't have much time left to live to fix my regrets. But I thanked her for the empathy she tried to give and moved on. After that she never checked in on me, never asked how I was or what the plan of treatment was. My surgery was scheduled for the end of Spetember, the day after her birthday. I wished her a happy birthday. Then I let her know after the surgery that everything went well and that I was going to be in the hopsital for a few days. I was loopy on strong pain meds so i also told her that my nurse drew me a cute doodle on my white board, she said ".That's great! Hopefully you heal fast so you can go on a date with her. 😉" which was totally out of the blue. I havent dated anyone in the time Ive know or been friends with Em. Im asexual, and an extreme introvert, dating is not really my thing and she knows this. So that comment was very weird to me. After that she never even texted to check in on me or tried to visit me in the 5 days I stayed in the hospital after the surgery. Keep in mind, we are supposedly best friends.
I almost considered our friendship over by then, but I reached out to her when I was pretty much back on my feet to see what was going on and asked her what the conversation about boundaries was about. I apologized for being too chicken shit to ask about it earlier because I don't do well emotionally with getting criticism even when it's valid and I know I need to hear it. On top of that I was (and still am) dealing with fucking cancer. Not an excuse, it is an explanation though. So I apologized.

I will say, if we collectively choose to merge back together. I WON'T let it be the same. I don't want you to tell me every tiny dark secret. But I do want you to tell me that you want to stop at game stop and ask me to take you somewhere. Without fear of gas. I want you to tell me if it pisses you off that I take you to only crystal shops or that I talk about spiritually. Because I want to improve. I have no intention of continuing a relationship that doesn't inspire growth or bring me positivity."
So she stopped talking to me, because she had no self-control. She abandoned me during the worst medical crisis of my fucking life, because she doesn't know how to manage her time or her motivation. She punished me, for her problems. To be very specific the spontaneous hanging out was nearly 100% on her. I would ask to hang out rarely, because I never had the chance to because she would be asking to see me multiple times a week.
I'm not a social person, so other than work I don't have much going on and she was my best friend. I wasn't going to say no if I didn't have any other plans. She never brought up that she was procrastinating anything by hanging out with me. Never a peep. Never a hint. Nothing. I had no idea any of that was going on. If I did know I would have been 150,000% there to support her by asking how her goals were going, how her chores were going. Hell I would have helped her do chores as our hang out if she had asked. I did help her with some stuff. Painting her head board, rearranging and cleaning her room, working on crafts when she needed motivation to finish a piece for a friend, being a study buddy when she needed to focus on her mental health books, things like that.
Also in what world is learning to be accountable for your own actions and vacuuming regularly the same as going through cancer? I don't like comparing pain or life struggles usually, but this was a crossed line for me. For her to say her dealing with procrastination was an "equal threshold of hell" as my bone eating tumor and excruciating pain and the fear of it spreading to other parts of my body, it infuriates me still to think about that.
So I am now hurt and angry as hell, that she stopped talking to me over seemingly nothing that I did. I had no idea what was going on with the tourettes coworker conversation that ended in "its fucking fine" from her and then her next message was about her needing to set boundaries. And then she says her life is better without me in it.
Friendship effectively over. Or it should have been.
Here's where I'm a bit of an asshole.
I took her back. I said we could try again. That we both needed to improve but that we could do it better this time. At the time I genuinely believed it. For a couple weeks.
Then the more I thought about laying in that hospital bed, alone, wishing I had someone to distract me from the pain and fear, the more I started to realise her reasons for cutting contact was bullshit. Her wanting to have this big talk about boundaries and the boundaries she wanted were literally nothing I could do they were all her issues with her own decisions and there's was nothing I could change about myself to fix the problem she was putting 50/50 on my shoulders. Her saying her life was better without me when that whole time I was crying over missing her and trying to figure out what I did wrong where I fucked up, what I could do or say to fix it. It all just added up too much and so I sent her one last message.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking and going through my emotions and I think I'm going to step back from whatever this friendship has turned into. I'll be honest I feel betrayed that you didn't even try to support me going through cancer. I understand things were rocky when I got my diagnosis, however if our friendship was important to you on any level I can't understand why you didn't even text me to see how I was doing for months at a time when you knew I was going through one of, if not the most, difficult medical diagnosis humans can get. I felt completely abandoned, especially since the reason we even stopped talking and hanging out was because of your own procrastination issues which I had nothing to do with. If you had even just told me that you needed to get things done before we could hang out I would have supported you unconditionally. Instead you gave a vague "we need to talk about boundaries and being more supportive of each other." And then never supported me in the darkest time of my life so far. It's taken me a while to get to the root of why I feel the way I do, but I don't think I can just let this go like I wanted to. I loved being your friend and it always felt like you valued my friendship too, until you were cutting me off because of your poor time management. To clarify the gift thing, I have been very poor for a long time. I am neurodivergent and I struggle to hold down a job. But I hand made her gifts, or cooked for her. The last thing I made for her was a crochet mandala blanket, please look up Radiance Mandala Blanket to see how much effort I went to, she picked the colors and I made her a lap blanket version for christmas 2022. It took her less than a month to complain that she wished she could have picked the colors. SHE DID. I told her to pick a pallet of colors specifically for her blanket and did my best to match the colors she picked with yarn I already owned. It wasn't perfect but I got it as close as I could. I don't like to make a big deal out of things I do for people because giving to the ones I love is literally the easiest thing in the world for me. But to have her act like I didnt try to make it as perfect for her as I could hurt so much.
Anyways, back to me telling her I was done. Her reply back pissed me off, maybe because I was already angry. It felt so patronizing and dismissive. But that might just be because of all the emotions I was already feeling at the time I read it.

I understand things were rocky when I got my diagnosis, however if our friendship was important to you on any level I can't understand why you didn't even text me to see how I was doing for months at a time when you knew I was going through one of, if not the most, difficult medical diagnosis humans can get. I felt completely abandoned, especially since the reason we even stopped talking and hanging out was because of your own procrastination issues which I had nothing to do with. If you had even just told me that you needed to get things done before we could hang out I would have supported you unconditionally. Instead you gave a vague "we need to talk about boundaries and being more supportive of each other." And then never supported me in the darkest time of my life so far. It's taken me a while to get to the root of why I feel the way I do, but I don't think I can just let this go like I wanted to. I loved being your friend and it always felt like you valued my friendship too, until you were cutting me off because of your poor time management. To clarify the gift thing, I have been very poor for a long time. I am neurodivergent and I struggle to hold down a job. But I hand made her gifts, or cooked for her. They paid me more to take over this responsibility for them. About 6 months ago, the family hired a new caregiver. This caregiver is consistently 30 minutes late every shift. This caregiver has been caught on camera verbally mistreating the patient. This caregiver has also committed many actions and wrongdoings that are neglectful towards the patient. Any time I try to bring it up in our group chat (I don’t single her out) she gets defensive and snaps back at me. For example: When I first arrived to my shift last week, I noticed a blanket on the foot of the patient’s bed completely soaked in urine. This had to have happened during her shift which was right before mine. I brought this up in the group chat and she started saying that she would’ve never missed that insinuating that it must’ve happened when I was working (this is impossible because I had just brought the patient to their room from breakfast where I started my shift). I don’t have full power to just terminate this employee plus we don’t have someone to replace them right away. Starting Info:
I will be casting as few spells as possible throughout the game. This includes learned skills, spirit vision, source vampirism, scrolls and more obscure "spells" like using face-ripper or Fane's shapeshifting mask. The game describes these actions as "cast"-able as opposed to a shovel or teleporter pyramid which are "use"-able. So I will be allowing myself the use of teleporter pyramids, shovels, lockpicks, Magic Mirror, Waypoints, telekinesis, potions, grenades, special arrows, and most importantly the glowing Idol of rebirth. Resurrection scrolls are not allowed but crafting the idols at no point requires you to cast anything, allowing a nice loophole. Basically, I played as if my characters were permanently silenced.
I will be playing on Tactician, using lone wolf rangers Fane (MC) and Ifan, for their ingenious trait. Rangers are the obvious choice for this challenge, as they deal a great amount of damage even without spells, and still have access to cc and magical damage with special arrows.

Act 1:
For the most part Act 1 was pretty simple. Some of the very early fights were rough, as we have to rely on our very weak standard attack. Once I got lone wolf on our companion and a couple of decent crossbows, things went quite smoothly. Without access to teleportation, several chests were unable to be accessed. Additionally not being able to use bless, prevented us from saving the pigs, opening the decrepit ruins (the area under where you find Gareth), opening the cursed chest in Braccus' vault containing the first piece of the devourer set, and removing the curse on the skeletal Captain's crate on the beach. I did try to use water balloons to spread blessed water (created by defeating nearby voidwoken) onto the flaming pigs but apparently you need to cast bless specifically
on the pigs. The final hurdle of the act was to defeat the shriekers and "kill" Alexander. Unable to use purging wands, I had to kill Radeka, to free Slane, so the dragon could take care of the Shriekers for me. The battle with Alexander was surprisingly easy and anticlimactic. Our first real problem arises when we meet Malady. Our supposed ally demands that we cast the bless spell to prove our godwoken status. Does a spell cast solely through dialogue count as a spell? I don’t know. We leave Fort Joy, and soon The Lady Vengeance is under attack. A few knockdown arrows later and Malady teleports us to the Hall of Echoes. This is our second problem. To move on, we need to bless our patron god. Perhaps there is a way to bypass this but I couldn’t work it out.
Act 2:
Just like bless being our nemesis in Act 1, spirit vision was the villain of Act 2. After you save Meistr Siva and perform the ritual, your god forces you to cast spirit vision to continue. Luckily you never actually need to perform the ritual, and by refusing source from all the source masters, Malady can give you the location of the Council of the seven. Armed with 2 teleporter pyramids, the respec mirror and a glowing idol of rebirth (in hindsight I should have gotten 2 of these, but I forgot that Fane needs to shapeshift in order to receive the spider’s kiss), we began our quest of refusing source knowledge. Ironically the most difficult fight involved Peeper the voidwoken chick. As we couldn’t speak to Marge’s ghost, when we brought Peeper to the magicockerel, we didn’t have the option to kill Peeper in dialogue. This started a fight with an infinite swarm of void chickens. That’s fine right? No. For some reason this caused nearby Daeyena to become aggressive, spawning her plethora of violent plants, which were 4 levels higher than Fane and Ifan at the time. The only solution (aside from not doing the quest, there wasn’t a reward for it anyway) was to trigger dialogue with Daeyena first, and as she is walking to the magister, start the fight with the chickens. Then retreat from combat, and then continue the conversation with Daeyena. We would return later to finish off the chickens and kill the elf for her armour. The only other notable fight of Act 2 was with the Black Ring in the centre of Bloodmoon Island. The undead Black Ring Destroyer has an evasion aura. Therefore we could only damage it with grenades or by taking 10% chance shots. Luckily this fight could be cheesed. Run away with your higher initiative character, the destroyer takes its turn, then your lower initiative character takes a couple of shots at the destroyer. Meanwhile sneak back into range with your other character and attack the destroyer, putting the character in front of the destroyer in turn order. This can be repeated infinitely, without letting the destroyer have a turn. I don’t think this fight was even needed to be done, but it was fun. One of the magisters guarding Meistr Siva also had the evasion aura, but they could just be bribed to leave their post. Interestingly, there is a way to get spirit vision temporarily without casting the spell. After completing Ryker’s quest, he gives your party spirit vision for 5 turns when he starts the ritual. By quickly teleporting to another location you can use this spirit vision to complete a quest. I used it to open the Surrey family tomb, to get the Anathema part for Tarquin. After denying all the source masters, and completing all the quests that required no spirit vision (I also couldn’t figure out how to do The Trial for All Seasons, but it could be possible), we set sail to the Nameless Isle without another spell being cast.
Act 3:
Act 3 was quick and painless. Using telekinesis and teleporter pyramids, we could easily navigate the entire island. The Sallow Man was the only concern, with his deflection proving a challenge for our rangers. We could have switched to daggers, but the fight was won simply through brute force and abusing the rebirth idol. As we entered the academy Fane talked to the voidwoken and became Sworn to the God King. Did I realise that to break this pact I would have to cast a spell. No I did not. Fight. Dallis. God. Lava. Sexy Times. And on to the final chapter.
Act 4:
There were a few challenges in this act. Starting with Kemm’s vault. Being unable to cast source vampirism on the vault sentinels, I had to use (for the first time ever) the sneaking civil ability to avoid them. I worried that I would have to cast spirit vision to install the missing panel of the painting, but I placed the painting nearby, and it automatically slotted into place. The next problem was Arhu himself. Sadly we had to kill the cat-man, as saving him would have required spells. Next was Kemm himself. Like the Sallow Man, he had deflecting, and unlike the Sallow Man he dealt a considerable amount of damage and couldn’t be sniped from higher ground. Luckily his Black Ring allies could be killed in 2 or 3 shots, and by carefully setting up ornate chests, Kemm was unable to get in melee range. Then using a barrage of static cloud arrows, Kemm was stunlocked and dead. The next big boss to defeat was the Doctor. I started the fight in the side room with all the desks, by attacking one of the nurses, forcing the demons to come to us. By using the bow that sets erratic wisp on its target, anytime an enemy got too close we could teleport them away. Combined with knockdown arrows, and fire resistance potions the damage the Doctor could deal to our duo was negligible. The final boss to defeat before entering the cathedral was Isbeil (without spirit vision we couldn’t fight Sadha or the Devourer). The fight itself was quite easy, Isbeil did not get a turn. The problem came from the deathfog device. Fane could not bring himself to disappoint his lover Ifan, so destroyed the device, much to the dismay of the God King. As punishment, Fane was permanently cursed. We entered the cathedral with a mercenary buddy. He successfully walked the Path of Blood, and then was promptly dismissed. Next was the pipe puzzle. How do you get blessed blood without bless? It turns out you don’t actually need blessed blood. Using teleport pyramids and telekinesis, you can bypass the forcefield and teleport down to the pipes. Ifan bled into the pipe, and Fane chucked a blessed water balloon onto the now bloody bowl. Even though the bowl did not contain any blessed blood (just blessed water and blood), the tomb opened. Next was the puppet room, and then onto Lucian. Ifan decided to forgive Lucian (I needed the achievement) and then the duo planned to give up their source to save the world. Unfortunately, the God King had other plans and turned Fane to a pile of bones and Braccus did his thing. Lucian and Ifan finished off the source king quite easily, ending the campaign. Miraculously, dead Malady revived Ifan from his life as a silent monk., though Fane’s spirit did not even make an appearance on The Lady Vengeance with the other godwoken spirits.
Overall, this challenge was surprisingly easy. By the end of the game, both our characters were dealing around 2000 damage a hit, twice that if a critical hit (Fane had around 95% crit chance, and Ifan had around 70%), twice again with huntsman bonuses from attacking from high ground. With 4 attacks per turn per character (8 AP from lone wolf and executioner), we could theoretically deal around 64,000 damage a turn. Without having to worry about spells, the campaign was very quick, taking only 35 hours.
TLDR: You only need to cast a single spell (and a spell in dialogue) to finish the game.

Once I got lone wolf on our companion and a couple of decent crossbows, things went quite smoothly. Without access to teleportation, several chests were unable to be accessed. Additionally not being able to use bless, prevented us from saving the pigs, opening the decrepit ruins (the area under where you find Gareth), opening the cursed chest in Braccus' vault containing the first piece of the devourer set, and removing the curse on the skeletal Captain's crate on the beach. I did try to use water balloons to spread blessed water (created by defeating nearby voidwoken) onto the flaming pigs but apparently you need to cast bless specifically
on the pigs. The final hurdle of the act was to defeat the shriekers and "kill" Alexander. Unable to use purging wands, I had to kill Radeka, to free Slane, so the dragon could take care of the Shriekers for me. The battle with Alexander was surprisingly easy and anticlimactic. Our first real problem arises when we meet Malady. Our supposed ally demands that we cast the bless spell to prove our godwoken status. Does a spell cast solely through dialogue count as a spell? I don’t know. We leave Fort Joy, and soon The Lady Vengeance is under attack. A few knockdown arrows later and Malady teleports us to the Hall of Echoes. This is our second problem. To move on, we need to bless our patron god. Perhaps there is a way to bypass this but I couldn’t work it out.
Act 2:
Just like bless being our nemesis in Act 1, spirit vision was the villain of Act 2. After you save Meistr Siva and perform the ritual, your god forces you to cast spirit vision to continue. Luckily you never actually need to perform the ritual, and by refusing source from all the source masters, Malady can give you the location of the Council of the seven. Armed with 2 teleporter pyramids, the respec mirror and a glowing idol of rebirth (in hindsight I should have gotten 2 of these, but I forgot that Fane needs to shapeshift in order to receive the spider’s kiss), we began our quest of refusing source knowledge. Ironically the most difficult fight involved Peeper the voidwoken chick. As we couldn’t speak to Marge’s ghost, when we brought Peeper to the magicockerel, we didn’t have the option to kill Peeper in dialogue. This started a fight with an infinite swarm of void chickens. That’s fine right? No. For some reason this caused nearby Daeyena to become aggressive, spawning her plethora of violent plants, which were 4 levels higher than Fane and Ifan at the time. The only solution (aside from not doing the quest, there wasn’t a reward for it anyway) was to trigger dialogue with Daeyena first, and as she is walking to the magister, start the fight with the chickens. Then retreat from combat, and then continue the conversation with Daeyena. We would return later to finish off the chickens and kill the elf for her armour. The only other notable fight of Act 2 was with the Black Ring in the centre of Bloodmoon Island. The undead Black Ring Destroyer has an evasion aura. Therefore we could only damage it with grenades or by taking 10% chance shots. Luckily this fight could be cheesed. Run away with your higher initiative character, the destroyer takes its turn, then your lower initiative character takes a couple of shots at the destroyer. Meanwhile sneak back into range with your other character and attack the destroyer, putting the character in front of the destroyer in turn order. This can be repeated infinitely, without letting the destroyer have a turn. I don’t think this fight was even needed to be done, but it was fun. One of the magisters guarding Meistr Siva also had the evasion aura, but they could just be bribed to leave their post. Interestingly, there is a way to get spirit vision temporarily without casting the spell. After completing Ryker’s quest, he gives your party spirit vision for 5 turns when he starts the ritual. By quickly teleporting to another location you can use this spirit vision to complete a quest. I used it to open the Surrey family tomb, to get the Anathema part for Tarquin. After denying all the source masters, and completing all the quests that required no spirit vision (I also couldn’t figure out how to do The Trial for All Seasons, but it could be possible), we set sail to the Nameless Isle without another spell being cast.
Act 3:
Act 3 was quick and painless. Using telekinesis and teleporter pyramids, we could easily navigate the entire island. The Sallow Man was the only concern, with his deflection proving a challenge for our rangers. We could have switched to daggers, but the fight was won simply through brute force and abusing the rebirth idol. As we entered the academy Fane talked to the voidwoken and became Sworn to the God King. Did I realise that to break this pact I would have to cast a spell. No I did not. Fight. Dallis. God. Lava. Sexy Times. And on to the final chapter.
Act 4:
There were a few challenges in this act. Starting with Kemm’s vault. Being unable to cast source vampirism on the vault sentinels, I had to use (for the first time ever) the sneaking civil ability to avoid them. I worried that I would have to cast spirit vision to install the missing panel of the painting, but I placed the painting nearby, and it automatically slotted into place. The next problem was Arhu himself. Sadly we had to kill the cat-man, as saving him would have required spells. Next was Kemm himself. Like the Sallow Man, he had deflecting, and unlike the Sallow Man he dealt a considerable amount of damage and couldn’t be sniped from higher ground. Luckily his Black Ring allies could be killed in 2 or 3 shots, and by carefully setting up ornate chests, Kemm was unable to get in melee range. Then using a barrage of static cloud arrows, Kemm was stunlocked and dead. The next big boss to defeat was the Doctor. I started the fight in the side room with all the desks, by attacking one of the nurses, forcing the demons to come to us. By using the bow that sets erratic wisp on its target, anytime an enemy got too close we could teleport them away. Combined with knockdown arrows, and fire resistance potions the damage the Doctor could deal to our duo was negligible. The final boss to defeat before entering the cathedral was Isbeil (without spirit vision we couldn’t fight Sadha or the Devourer). The fight itself was quite easy, Isbeil did not get a turn. The problem came from the deathfog device. Fane could not bring himself to disappoint his lover Ifan, so destroyed the device, much to the dismay of the God King. As punishment, Fane was permanently cursed. We entered the cathedral with a mercenary buddy. He successfully walked the Path of Blood, and then was promptly dismissed. Next was the pipe puzzle. How do you get blessed blood without bless? It turns out you don’t actually need blessed blood. Using teleport pyramids and telekinesis, you can bypass the forcefield and teleport down to the pipes. Ifan bled into the pipe, and Fane chucked a blessed water balloon onto the now bloody bowl. Even though the bowl did not contain any blessed blood (just blessed water and blood), the tomb opened. Next was the puppet room, and then onto Lucian. Ifan decided to forgive Lucian (I needed the achievement) and then the duo planned to give up their source to save the world. Unfortunately, the God King had other plans and turned Fane to a pile of bones and Braccus did his thing. Lucian and Ifan finished off the source king quite easily, ending the campaign. Miraculously, dead Malady revived Ifan from his life as a silent monk., though Fane’s spirit did not even make an appearance on The Lady Vengeance with the other godwoken spirits.
Overall, this challenge was surprisingly easy. By the end of the game, both our characters were dealing around 2000 damage a hit, twice that if a critical hit (Fane had around 95% crit chance, and Ifan had around 70%), twice again with huntsman bonuses from attacking from high ground. With 4 attacks per turn per character (8 AP from lone wolf and executioner), we could theoretically deal around 64,000 damage a turn. Without having to worry about spells, the campaign was very quick, taking only 35 hours.
TLDR: You only need to cast a single spell (and a spell in dialogue) to finish the game.

I used to love being a nurse but now I hate it. The unit I work on isn’t diverse I’m constantly having to deal with things my other coworkers aren’t, and they tell me it’s because I’m young. I was also singled out today for begin on my phone mind you all my patients were good not a single call light going off. I even went around asking other if they need help before I checked my phone. I was told that I’m the reason doctors think nurses are lazy. And that family members don’t trust our care. This co worker who made this comment also goes on her phone and even takes phone calls. She has made this comment to me before, I decided to address it today. I told her that I can’t control anyone’s perception and it doesn’t fall on my should to be a poster board for nursing. My patient are well taken care of, I come to work and I do my job. Whatever negative perception people have of nurses isn’t because I was on my phone. She basically told me I was lucky that she talked to me and didn’t report me I told her I stand by actions. I also told her that she is on her phone as well so if she cares how nurses are perceived she should get off her phone as well. She kept going on and on about how I was making everyone look bad. Also side note there wasn’t any family members or doctors around when I was on my phone. After we had this conversation guess who I see at the nurses station on their phone along with all the other nurses. Also I had an easy assignment today and I had down time I was reading charts and sitting down. Why did someone make a comment about me sitting down. I promise you if you see me sitting down on my shift know all my cares ect are done. I even offer to help others ect I am not a lazy nurse. And today was one of the few shifts I wasn’t running around like crazy. But they get to sit and have downtime and be on their phone but I can’t. I genuinely felt like crying I’m tired of these double standards.

So I was a fan of the LN's from back when the first season released. The things I identified with then, and the things I love about it now are still largely what I love about it. And I was for a long time willing to turn a blind eye to ALOT of what I felt were unnessicary parts of the story, as, this series is the work of an author, not something made FOR me. However as time has gone on, the series has leaned more into it's less savory elements, and it does genuinely hamper my enjoyment of the series now, to the point that I'm hesitant about the series moving forward (I stopped right before reading the succession arc). I'm just curious about more broader perspectives on the series, as someone who's going to attempt to lay out more than just "ew incest gross" arguments. I'd be happy if people are willing to engage in a more genuine discussion, but if not, hope you can at least enjoy the read.
I'll try and start positive, because I want to put it out there, I was largely positive on the series as a whole, and have recommended it to multiple friends with some pretty major caveats. And I have rolled out good faith defenses of each problematic elements of the show with in universe examples and reasoning. So the things that I genuinely love about the series. At the time, as someone who dropped out of collage, while always thinking myself the smartest guy in the room, it was easy to identify with a story that highlighted a character who's society's measure of a man wasn't accurately taken. I've since grown a lot since then, but I still do love this aspect of the story. Hatori's line saying "so this is what happens when a test doesn't accurately measure someone's strength" is a line that sticks with me to this day. I also love how deep the political intrigue is thought out, not to be overly exaggerated in my analysis, but there are times where the levels of geopolitical implications of certain actions are thought about on a level that you would expect from traditional spy fiction/thrillers. The fact that the implications of magical weapons and the socioeconomic implications of things like a fusion generator are taken into account with such detail is amazing to me. It isn't given a one side interpretation but rather a very realistic look at how the powers in play would fight over the use, implementation, and restrictions that might have to be placed on such technology.
Also the magic system, i feel like I don't have to preach to anyone about how cool it is, but it's cool, straight up, it's just cool, as a tech guy, to see the fusion of technology and magic in this setting is awesome.
Lastly the imperfect nature of the main character was always interesting to me. While the anime only ever hints at Tastuya's insecurities with subtext, LN fans will know his though process is PLAGUED with indecision and caution that remove him soley from the OP MC archetype that never thinks about or suffers the consequences of his actions. Yes in practice he is an OP MC, but just like how society inaccurately measures his strength because they don't value the thing's he's good at, the really fantastic character work putting in the juxtaposition of his OWN values, not aligning with his own strength is really smart character writing. Tatsuya himself doesn't care about regrowth, or his crazy abilities and capacity for magic despite his apparent disabilities in the magic department. While many people see him and recognize how powerful he is, none of that is what HE values. He values more than anything are the technical skills required to change the world through magical engineering, and while he makes GREAT strides throughout the series, ultimately he isn't at the point (where I am in the series) to effect the real kind of change he would like to see, outside role as the Yotsuba's secret weapon. The kind of ambition he might have fostered normally as just a young man, is still evident with his passions outside of the crazy family situation he was forced under.
Which is something else I love about the series, but with a bit of a mixed bag of feelings. The world building is genuinely really cool from a near future sci-fantasy setting. The staging of the energy crisis that led to the 3rd world war, the emergence of Mages, and the united pact against nuclear arms, only to be replaced by the very checks that locked the nations from nuclear armageddon. The cleaver setup and world play between the 10 master clan's naming conventions and even to a lesser extent the 100 supporting families, gives such a rich texture and great opportunities to have ENDLESS but distinct characters coming from every facet of society. Characters like the Chiba get to be all one note swordsman, then build upon individual character traits to differentiate them. Even the side stories with Morisaki Shun give texture to what otherwise should have been just a one off character that was done with after the first arc (honestly I wish we saw more of him as the series went on, and the ramification of him protecting the heiress of the no head dragons, the series clearly doesn't mind chinese influence being a driving antagonistic force, it would have been interesting to see them explore more morally complex but not completely antagonizing forces).
And that lead some to some of the negatives. In the same vein that the world building is very well thought out, I cannot view this piece as a piece of fiction divorced from the real world. Can you explain the incest, the way he writes female fashion and women with in universe explanations? Yes absolutely and I have gone to bat for it in the past. Preserving genetic bloodlines to increase the magical powers of a generation of magicians, when such a small subsection of the population have any degree of magic talent to begin with, would be paramount in the national defense of a country. Having siblings marry each other is both not even the craziest thing I can imagine NOR is the least crazy thing the SERIES has done to justify this. The fashion sense was born the energy crisis that predated world war 3, caused clothing to become heavier out of necessity and it became fuax pas to show as much skin, both as a means of survival and as a way to signal you had enough resources to keep yourself clothed. While the climate has recovered people's sense of fashion hasn't caught up yet, which is a great IN universe explanation for the more conservative forms of dress that seem socially permissible in the series. And the way they treat women as ladies constantly saying "is would be improper for a lady to be out at night by herself" can be (and this one is LESS SUPPORTED by the text but I think could be explained and inferred) to be part of the need to preserve reproducing members of society after a great famine that predated WW3 and further more of the "nobility" class of magicians which this behavior clearly emulates.
The problem with all of these is, the text also clearly wants to have it both ways and it just betrays a clear taste the author has that I find distasteful in the REAL world. Sure you tell women to cover up, but then you take every opportunity to put them in summer dresses, or skimpy costumes for performances, and dress up scenes. While all of this makes sense IN universe, I can't help but feel this is just a pandering to real world markets that like these niches, or further points to the authors own thoughts on the matter, with a regressive social structure that see's women lacking less moral and societal agency, having to "cover up" as it were, and the whole incest thing. It would be one thing if the series SAID anything about this. An interesting exploration on how both the Yotsuba and society as a whole put such immense pressure on all of these teenagers regardless of how competent they are, and them breaking that cycle of generational expectation would be perfectly in line with the broader social change Tastsuya is trying to work towards with his engineering endeavors. Learning to actually heal from, learn from, and distance himself from the ultimately toxic relationship he's being forced into with his sister would earn MASSIVE points in my book for actually tackling an uncomfortable topic with some nuance.
I'm going to sidebar for a moment because I know a lot of people love Miyuki and Tastuya in both the fanbase as a whole but this sub in particular. I'm going to approach this, in good faith and say all of you are fans of the characters and I'm not going to, nor do I think a majority of fans are problematic in their liking of this relationship. While I personally feel like the devotion Miyuki shows is pandering, as I said in universe it can all be explained and people can enjoy fiction for any number of reasons, I don't think anyone is gross or whatever for enjoying a pairing when the text of the show so adamantly presents it in the most positive light possible. BUT WITH ALL THAT SAID, i would be doing the rest of the series, which is so well thought out, to not lend a critical eye to the absolute blindspot the series has for this relationship. Miyuki's devotion to Tatsuya is born of her realization after being saved by him in Okinawa, that her life belongs to him because he saved it, and she will be at his side against all the injustices that he has and will continue to face. But that kind of single hearted devotion, is by definition, toxic to her growth as a person. No one can LIVE for another person and be a fully fleshed individual, it just isn't healthy and it cheapens what could be such a more powerful character that by her own rights has every right to grow with ambitions that still can ABOSLUTELY grow in parallels with, and in support of her brother. But the story doesn't really explore that, every choice she ever makes is with the approval of her brother or his ultimate success in mind. You cannot seriously get me to buy that their engagement and eventual marriage is a healthy one under these conditions. I am a modern man, I like my wife to be as strong willed as I am so we can make joint decisions about our life that we can both agree on, so hell call me biased but I don't actually think there's anything wrong with traditional relationships, but that's the thing, EVEN in traditional relationships, women aren't the objects that they're commonly straw manned into. While not all traditional relationships were like this, the foundation of them is supposed to be founded upon the idea that while men could be out in the world, providing for the family, the women would be at home nursing children, and making sure the HOME was taken care of. In practice this meant a lot of women were actually empowered to make many of the purchasing decisions for the house, under ideal circumstances (again in actuality I acknowledges the more problematic aspects of these relationships in history and that isn't the point of this post).
I bring all of this up to say that Miyuki isn't given the agency to grow enough as her own person outside being sometimes selfish over her brothers attention of her. If I had to write an essay on Tatsuya's driving purpose in life, I could write at length on interesting aspects of his character and his own inaccuracies when judging his own value, when he's so uniquely capable of judging others. But there is no similar depth given to Miyuki and that's just sad because the GLIMCES we get of her character are ACTUALLY great. Her interactions with Lina, were highlights brining to her a character that is as close to being her peer as we had up until that point in the series, but still having her show compassion to her situation because of how much it mirrored Tatsuyas despite being "competition" and someone who ostensibly was opposed to her brother. Her interactions could have been so much better with Ichigo Masaki ( a criminally underused character as a whole) but they never amount to anything other then him getting lil'broed the entire series. And Kuduo Minoru is just underutilized in his debut appearance during the upcoming Ancient city insurrection arc that's about to be animated. Tatsuya is able to be measured up against these characters to further his growth and further exemplify what sets him apart as an interesting character and Miyuki doesn't get the same opportunity.
There is so much more I can say, but this is crazy long and I suspect few people will read it all anyways. Some of this might be ranty but I have been stewing on these thoughts for ages, and with no one in my circle who has stuck out the series as far as I have, my only recourse is the broader fanbase to discuss my thoughts on the matter.
TL;DR- Tatsuya, the world, and the magic systems, the consequences, and the complex web of motives within the narrative are all huge pluses for the series, that ultimately get dragged down by the inordinate amount of time spent on what I feel is either pandering to certain audiences, or betray the authors less than savory tastes, that more than just being morally outrageous (because I don't really care about that) serves to under cut the otherwise great writing of the series, and I think that's the real crime. The incest doesn't bother me because a fictional sister and brother get together, it bothers me because it robs me of the potential character growth both of them could have had, fighting back against another backwards system in this world born of political and social necessities that would have rhymed with all the other themes of the series.
EDIT: yes I know I can just drop the series, if it isn't for me, and I might I really don't know, I'm just frustrated at what could be something that has so much potential, be inordinately focused on the least interesting aspects of it.

But the story doesn't really explore that, every choice she ever makes is with the approval of her brother or his ultimate success in mind. You cannot seriously get me to buy that their engagement and eventual marriage is a healthy one under these conditions. I am a modern man, I like my wife to be as strong willed as I am so we can make joint decisions about our life that we can both agree on, so hell call me biased but I don't actually think there's anything wrong with traditional relationships, but that's the thing, EVEN in traditional relationships, women aren't the objects that they're commonly straw manned into. While not all traditional relationships were like this, the foundation of them is supposed to be founded upon the idea that while men could be out in the world, providing for the family, the women would be at home nursing children, and making sure the HOME was taken care of. In practice this meant a lot of women were actually empowered to make many of the purchasing decisions for the house, under ideal circumstances (again in actuality I acknowledges the more problematic aspects of these relationships in history and that isn't the point of this post).
I bring all of this up to say that Miyuki isn't given the agency to grow enough as her own person outside being sometimes selfish over her brothers attention of her. If I had to write an essay on Tatsuya's driving purpose in life, I could write at length on interesting aspects of his character and his own inaccuracies when judging his own value, when he's so uniquely capable of judging others. But there is no similar depth given to Miyuki and that's just sad because the GLIMCES we get of her character are ACTUALLY great. Her interactions with Lina, were highlights brining to her a character that is as close to being her peer as we had up until that point in the series, but still having her show compassion to her situation because of how much it mirrored Tatsuyas despite being "competition" and someone who ostensibly was opposed to her brother. Her interactions could have been so much better with Ichigo Masaki ( a criminally underused character as a whole) but they never amount to anything other then him getting lil'broed the entire series. And Kuduo Minoru is just underutilized in his debut appearance during the upcoming Ancient city insurrection arc that's about to be animated. Tatsuya is able to be measured up against these characters to further his growth and further exemplify what sets him apart as an interesting character and Miyuki doesn't get the same opportunity.
There is so much more I can say, but this is crazy long and I suspect few people will read it all anyways. Some of this might be ranty but I have been stewing on these thoughts for ages, and with no one in my circle who has stuck out the series as far as I have, my only recourse is the broader fanbase to discuss my thoughts on the matter.
TL;DR- Tatsuya, the world, and the magic systems, the consequences, and the complex web of motives within the narrative are all huge pluses for the series, that ultimately get dragged down by the inordinate amount of time spent on what I feel is either pandering to certain audiences, or betray the authors less than savory tastes, that more than just being morally outrageous (because I don't really care about that) serves to under cut the otherwise great writing of the series, and I think that's the real crime. The incest doesn't bother me because a fictional sister and brother get together, it bothers me because it robs me of the potential character growth both of them could have had, fighting back against another backwards system in this world born of political and social necessities that would have rhymed with all the other themes of the series.
EDIT: yes I know I can just drop the series, if it isn't for me, and I might I really don't know, I'm just frustrated at what could be something that has so much potential, be inordinately focused on the least interesting aspects of it.

My son will be 2yo in a couple of weeks. Nap and bedtime have become impossible and miserable. Every little bedtime transition takes enormous effort and energy and is extremely hard for my son (doesn’t want to get in bath, rips pajamas off), he desperately wants more books, more stories, more songs. I feel like he is desperate for more time with me. He will scream if my husband even walks into the room as if he is threatened that his presence = my absence. So big struggles with separation (during the day as well).
He cannot fall asleep with or without my help for a minimum of like an hour. My son is used to being supported to sleep (was nursed, more recently rocked/held) and none of that is working anymore yet he does not want to be put in his crib to fall asleep. (For what it’s worth we sleep trained at 7mo and that worked for a few months and then didn’t work anymore). Like idk what the heck to do? I’m happy to just sit and hold him in my lap but the ONLY thing he seems to want is from me is to walk and rock him back and forth back and forth (“mama walk!” when I try to sit down). But I’m exhausted physically and mentally and cannot walk my nearly 30 lb toddler around in the dark for 45 min+. It’s truly the only thing I can’t/don’t want to do.
More background- I work full time. We are still nursing but slowly weaning. He now only nurses 1x/day at the beginning of the bedtime routine. Hoping to be done in the next couple of weeks-month. It’s not lost on me that this is happening around the time we are weaning. We have a nanny during the week and he is refusing naps with her now. I feel like she wants me to give her a solution but I’m like - sorry he’s giving me hell too! Idk I’m just kind of confused and exhausted. I don’t want to leave the room to let him cry because I truly believe that will intensify the separation anxiety. And just feels wrong to me at that point. I have put him in the crib and let him cry while I am in the room.
I am not the mom I want to be during these maddening bedtime battles. I lose my cool and I feel awful after. Or hold a boundary and finally give in bc omg we all have to sleep. My son has never been a “great” independent sleeper and the vibes have mostly been - anything to get him to sleep. But he is older now, has great receptive/expressive language and I know I cannot pace and rock this kid forever. Looking for solidarity, actionable strategies, ideas for how to work on separation anxiety, favorite resources, annnnnythingggg. TIA!
