  1. Assess Your Vehicle's Value: The first step in earning top cash for your car is to accurately assess its value. Factors such as make, model, year, mileage, and condition all play a role in determining the price you can expect to receive. Utilize online valuation tools or consult with professionals like Wreckery to get an accurate estimate.
  2. Prepare Your Car for Sale: Before putting your car on the market, take the time to clean it thoroughly and make any necessary repairs or improvements. A well-maintained vehicle is more likely to fetch a higher price and attract potential buyers.
  3. Gather Documentation: Collect all relevant paperwork for your car, including the title, service records, and any warranties or receipts for recent repairs. Having these documents readily available can streamline the selling process and instill confidence in potential buyers.
  4. Choose the Right Selling Method: When it comes to selling your car in Brisbane, you have several options, including private sales, dealerships, and car buying services like Wreckery. Consider the pros and cons of each method and choose the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

  7. Be Transparent: Honesty is the best policy when selling your car. Be upfront about any issues or flaws with your vehicle, as trying to conceal them can backfire and damage your reputation as a seller.
  8. Timing is Key: Keep in mind that market conditions can affect the price you can expect to receive for your car. Consider factors such as seasonality, economic conditions, and demand for your specific make and model when timing your sale for maximum profit.
  9. Consider Additional Services: Some car buying services, like Wreckery, offer additional services such as free towing, same-day payment, and assistance with paperwork. Taking advantage of these services can save you time and hassle and ensure a smooth selling experience.
  10. Follow Through: Once you've agreed on a price and finalized the sale, be sure to follow through on your end of the deal. Transfer the title and ownership of the vehicle promptly, and ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed correctly.

2024.05.21 10:40 peachbaba Toronto to El Paso

Just wanted to share that the last few days have been absolutely wonderful! A big thank you to everyone who helped me plan my trip from Toronto to El Paso with the final leg in Las Vegas. Your city was fantastic—beautiful sights, friendly people, and amazing food. I still have lots to explore and had to revise our schedule so I hope to be back soon.
A special shoutout to the incredible hospitality I experienced everywhere I went. I wasn’t expecting that!
Cheers!

2024.05.21 10:40 black_dog1979 Engine Oil in Vacuum System C220D

My brakes have been playing up recently. Need to apply mega pressure to brake, can feel the ABS kicking in randomly. Took it to a garage who identified it as a known problem of engine oil getting into the vacuum system. Showed me the vacuum pipe full of oil.
There's a Mercedes bulletin about it and to fix it there are several parts to be replaced, all of which sit within the engine so the transmission needs to be dismantled and the engine needs to be removed. It's a huge job which will cost thousands.
The car is just over 4 years old and I've been told I should go to the dealership I bought it from and kick up a right stink. Tell them I wouldn't expect such a huge repair on a relatively new car, especially when it looks like an underlying and known problem, one that should probably have been subject to a recall. Some forums have loads of complaints about the same issue.
Would you guys try the same tactic of complaining to Mercedes? I'm not sure if they'll cover the cost but perhaps a contribution? I'm absolutely gutted. My first ever Merc and until now I've lived it. I was definitely a convert after driving BMWs and my future cars would all have been Mercs.
Anything advice would be amazing. Anything I could add to my argument to lay it on thick?
Thanks in advance

2024.05.21 10:30 Quiet-raptor-96 AITA for saying no to letting my brother in law drive my car when they visit

We are flying home for a wedding on my side of the family in July for about a week. It just so happens that the same week of the wedding is the week that they had booked their flights to come out. We’d discussed them staying at the house while we were actually going to be there and then a day later found out the date of the wedding happened to be in the middle of the week they had scheduled to come out. I have no issue with them staying at the house while we are gone because we live in Hawaii and hotels out here aren’t cheap but my brother in law is now asking if they can use my car while they are here and we are gone.
Here’s the issue. I got here about 9 months ago and bought a cheaper older car trying to save some money and I’ve had issues with it since two weeks after buying it. I’ve driven it less than 30 times in the last 9 months, it having spent 3 months at an auto repair shop while they tried to figure out what was wrong with it. After so long, we decided to purchase a newer, 2021, vehicle with a loan so that I would have a reliable car to get to work as I had a distance to drive. With all the trouble I’ve had when it comes to cars over the last 9 months, I’m uneasy about letting anyone else drive my car especially when we will be nowhere near home. If anything happens, that’s a dock on my insurance which will raise my rates, I’m out of a vehicle again and have to buy another vehicle and finding cars out here is not as easy as it may seem.
My husband is irritated because he thinks I’d do it with my side of the family but that would have been with the older crappy car that if it got hit, it wasn’t a huge loss. And realistically, they wouldn’t have been driving it anyway because I would have been off work and taking them everywhere. Even with my newer car, I wouldn’t full super comfortable letting my family drive it because of the horrible luck with cars I’ve had.
AITA and overthinking this or it reasonable to decline since we are already helping them out by letting them stay at the house and saving some money?

2024.05.21 10:24 guitarmanjb Missing the couch tour!

I just want to preface this by saying I never saw the Sphere shows as a cynical cash grab or anything like that. I saw fourteen shows between 2015-23, and was at all three of the SF finale shows, and we got tickets for a Sphere show the minute they went on sale. Nothing but love for the band, and love for the entire Deadhead community.
But with the lack of official streams, I'm feeling a little disconnected from the band. Even just having a first-song Nugs preview was nice, and having Lambert & Gans debrief on Dead Air between sets and chat with the band was a great way to feel connected with the band onstage and off, and helped feel like the whole world was watching the shows. Heck, even having the setlist photo on instagram after the show was nice.
I understand that these shows are designed to be pretty explicitly visual experiences, and no video will do justice to the experience of being there. But the audience footage alone has clearly been a major selling point to many people, and I feel like having pro-shot footage (some that actually features the band) and commentary from the band's official camp would go a long way to making this a community experience, not just one that you have to travel to Las Vegas for. Maybe it's the new management, maybe it's just trying something wholly new for this residency, but I'm looking forward to being in Vegas so I can feel a little more of that community feeling again. Until then, I'll be keeping my ears peeled for some less-official sources of audio...

2024.05.21 10:08 snoah13 Car Damaged By Shop - North Carolina

I took my car into my local Toyota dealer for loose steering on May 6th. The Issue had been persisting for about a 2 weeks but no major issues or concerns.
The dealer diagnosed play in the tie rods. Rather than replacing just the tie rods they suggested replacing the entire steering rack as it was only $70 more.
Fast forward 4 days to May 10th my car is ready after paying roughly $2,000.
I drive off the lot and my steering completely seizes nearly causing me to crash into oncoming traffic in the turn lane I am in.
After completing stopping, turning my car off and on, and playing with the steering for about 15 minutes I manage to get it back to the dealership unharmed.
The next day my service advisor texts me and apologizes “for what is happening to my car” and “not catching it after the rack repair”. According to them my power steering pump was going bad and they pushed a ton of metal shavings into the steering system when they put in new fluids after the repair. Not realizing, which caused my steering to seize.
Dealer parts warrantied the new rack for another rack as it was unsalvageable and covered the cost for a new power steering pump and all labor.
Fast forward 6 days to May 17th I receive a message saying my car is all ready to go. I drive off the lot and the same exact scenario plays out. My steering seizes and I have no control over the vehicle no matter how hard I turn the wheel.
Now 4 days later, May 21st, I have heard no new information from the dealer or service department other than the technicians do not have any idea what is happening and they aren’t working Monday or Tuesday.
I do not know the legal standing on this situation at all. My main questions are:
a.) Is the dealer for sure 100% responsible for new unrelated damages seemingly caused by their own negligence with the vehicle in their possession.
b.) What compensation should I be seeking? They are currently honoring the repair costs and labor, however, after 2 attempts I do not trust their word, work, or car anymore. I do not want to keep waiting weeks for potential fixes and continually put myself in harms way.
However, my car is nearly impossible to trade in / replicate it is a limited edition color with over $20,000 of aftermarket modifications on it. The market value or trade in would not allow me to obtain a similar vehicle.
The only compensation I would really be satisfied with would be a check for the car’s market value and the current cost of adding the exact same modifications to a new vehicle.
Is that a reasonable expectation for the dealer without even taking legal action? or will this require an attorney

2024.05.21 09:36 fredochan Engine Accelerates slow and engine sound deeper (HELP)

Hey guys I have a 98 manual base. I took it out for a joy ride at night. Hitting nothing higher than 95mph. After 12 minutes out driving on the highway I noticed out of nowhere a change in speed. The engine felt less aggressive, almost like I went into a higher gear suddenly (I was in 5th). I exited immediately to check out what could have the issue.
As I was exiting and shifting gear I noticed when I accelerated the engine didn't feel as aggressive and the tone also changed to a more deeper sound. The car shakes way more and sounds way deeper (it almost sounds like a Harley bike). When I drive pullout from park the car struggles to take off. I really have to rev it into 4k-5k rpm to move it.
Some thoughts: I did some research of similar but not precises issues and it could be the flywheel an or clutch needs replacements. My transmission did detached at one point because all the bolts feel off. So this sounded like a possible issue.
This just happened a few hours ago. Any ideas before I decided to execute any purchases and repairs?
Thank you in advance.

The Importance of Regular AC Maintenance

An automotive air conditioning system is a complex assembly of components that work together to provide cool air. Over time, these components can wear out, leading to decreased performance or complete failure. Regular maintenance is essential to keep the system running smoothly. Here’s why:
  1. Preventative Care: Regular check-ups can identify potential issues before they become major problems. This can save you from costly repairs and the inconvenience of a malfunctioning AC system during peak summer.
  2. Improved Air Quality: The AC system also plays a role in filtering the air that enters your vehicle. Regular maintenance ensures that filters are clean and free from pollutants, providing better air quality inside your car.
  3. Efficiency and Performance: A well-maintained AC system operates more efficiently, cooling your vehicle faster and using less energy. This not only improves comfort but can also positively impact your fuel efficiency.
  4. Prolonged Lifespan: Like any other mechanical system, the lifespan of your AC unit is directly related to how well it is maintained. Regular servicing can extend the life of your AC system, providing better value for your investment.

Common AC Problems and Their Causes

Understanding the common issues that can affect your vehicle’s air conditioning system can help you recognize when it’s time to seek professional repair services. Here are some typical AC problems:
  1. Refrigerant Leaks: One of the most common issues is a refrigerant leak. Low refrigerant levels can significantly reduce the cooling capability of your AC system. Leaks can occur due to worn-out seals or hoses.
  2. Faulty Compressor: The compressor is the heart of the AC system, responsible for circulating refrigerant. If the compressor fails, the entire system will cease to function. Issues can arise from electrical faults, wear and tear, or contamination.
  3. Clogged Filters: Air filters can become clogged with dust and debris over time, restricting airflow and reducing cooling efficiency. Regular replacement of filters is necessary to maintain optimal performance.
  4. Electrical Issues: The AC system relies on a network of electrical components, including switches, relays, and fuses. Any malfunction in these components can disrupt the operation of the AC system.
  5. Faulty Condenser or Evaporator: The condenser and evaporator are critical for heat exchange. If these components become blocked or damaged, they can significantly impact the performance of the AC system.

  6. System Recharge and Test: After repairs are completed, the AC system is recharged with refrigerant and tested to ensure it is operating efficiently.

2024.05.21 09:30 njc3317 Guest Insurance

Turo host here. I have never rented a car from Turo so maybe I’m ignorant here, but I have read a lot of the documentation just because I’m a host.
Had a guest three months ago that damaged my vehicle. Got it repaired and reimbursed without issue. I paid my $250 deductible and the guest had the $500 deductible plan for Turo insurance which he paid.
The guest contacts me today and was very unhappy. Said that Turo reached out to his insurance company (Progressive) and filed a claim. I assume Turo is able to find out who his personal insurance was but they definitely did not ask him. He was livid. I tried to explain the host has nothing to do with this.
I was unaware that if you rent from Turo, and even if you pay for Turo insurance per day of your trip, Turo will STILL reach out to the guests personal insurance first if they have insurance, file a claim, and cause havoc even if the guest paid for additional insurance on their trip.
I guess I’m just wondering how this is even legal? I mean what is a guest paying for if Turo is just going to go straight to your personal insurance? I assume this covers the guest if their personal insurance won’t pay out, but this just seems to be a bit of double dipping and misrepresentation.
Looking for some commentary on this just to be better informed in case guests ask me in the future about this……

2024.05.21 09:13 Ok-Comedian-4571 What can we learn from Mexico?

I should preface this by saying I’m just starting my prepping journey so am not telling people what to do, just interested in hearing your thoughts!
For the past month or so I’ve been travelling to two or three Mexican cities and am very impressed how self-sufficient the locals seem to be.
Most homes have 750 liter tanks on the roof, capable of collecting rainwater. Naturally these work via gravity so no need for elaborate pumping systems. This is usually coupled with solar water heaters, meaning you can always take a hot shower!
The last two places I stayed in had gas coolers piped in to a large bottle outside. Every morning a truck came by (announcing itself with loud music!) to let people switch out empties for full ones.
It’s clear from the cars and buildings here that people take good care of what they have and prefer to repair than replace whenever possible.
The local open air food markets also sell staples like rice in bulk relatively cheaply, though I see just as many people in the more expensive air-conditioned stores.
Of course I know the primary reason why many Mexicans live this way is to save money but I can’t help but admire their tenacity in doing it.

2024.05.21 09:06 HaalinaXO Tips for looking for a car under $2K?

I'm a senior in college. I had a car in high school that my parents got for me, but it was a piece of garbage and I ended up pouring nearly $4k into it in repairs. I haven't had a car since we sold it in 2020.
I'm now about to go into grad school and am in search of a car. My budget is $2,000, but I don't know if that is too low and if I should save up more. I do not know literally anything about cars, aside from the difference between FWD and AWD. I'm not picky about what the car model or year is, as long as it's reliable and won't have too many issues down the road. I've been looking on Facebook Marketplace for a minute for any cars under 100k miles and in my price range, but am not sure where to even start with what I'm finding.
I'm a girl with no guy friends that are into cars, other than my older brother who's 8 hours away. Not sure if that's relevant, but I don't want to get scammed because ultimately I am naive and dumb when it comes to these things.

2024.05.21 09:00 One-Measurement4599 Pipe Burst, Landlord Delaying Repair For Two Weeks

I (20y/o) live in a house in SoCal with four other roommates currently, renting ofc. On May 8th we got a call from the gas company notifying us that there had been a nonstop gas usage for the past few days. We were able to identify that the water heater was involved in this issue, and reached out to a plumber by the landlord’s suggestion, as he himself was out of the country.
The day the plumber came, May 19th, the floor of our downstairs bathroom and two of the downstairs bedrooms had become completely soaked. The plumber said it was likely a slab leak (Meaning a water pipe burst beneath the concrete foundation, apparently so common in California that it’s no longer legal to run pipes underneath a house) and that this was going to be the landlord’s responsibility. We informed the landlord of the plumber’s concern, prompting him to send his own friend in construction to verify what the plumber had already found, who said the same thing.
The repairs are supposed to be pretty invasive, as the house will need large bits of completely new plumbing. We shut off the water on the 19th to avoid any further water damage to the downstairs bedrooms and bathroom. This is obviously a disturbance to our daily lives, as the five of us all need to use the toilet, shower, brush teeth, wash dishes, wash clothes, and we aren’t able to. I’ve been going to the store every time I have to pee and I don’t have a car, which has been a real treat.
Our landlord is scheduled to come back from his trip on May 31st, eleven days from now. The repairs can only start once he’s back, as he wants to see the situation for himself before finalizing the repair contract, despite the fact that he already sent his own guy who verified the problem to him.
I doubt he’ll get things started the day he lands, so we will be living with this burst pipe situation for a minimum of twelve days. He instructed us, the tenants, to tear up the carpeting in the affected downstairs bedrooms and point a blower (???) that he left at the house towards the floor to see if it’ll dry out.
He authorized us to turn the water back on on a use-by-use basis, meaning, by his explanation: Turn on the shower, go outside and turn on the main water valve, come back inside and shower, do not turn off the shower, go outside and turn off the water valve, come back inside and turn off the shower.
In addition to the base chaos of this situation, we also have a new tenant who is supposed to be moving into one of the downstairs bedrooms at the start of June. Since this won’t be possible until the repairs are completed, the landlord offered to reduce our rent by the cost of the uninhabited room for one month. This seems like a no-brainer, as a house full of people under 25, half of whom are students, aren’t going to be able to pay a few hundred dollars extra with no notice.
Is there anything we can do about this? At this point the house feels borderline uninhabitable for a minimum of two weeks, and that’s without even getting into the black mold that the landlord has already refused to investigate or treat. I’m actively looking for a new place to live, but it feels incredibly wrong to allow him to continue charging rent for the house in this condition. Is there any legal action we can take? Any advice in any way would be greatly appreciated.
tldr; Our landlord is delaying a massive repair on our plumbing for two weeks and it’s making our lives miserable, help??
