2024.05.21 12:05 Much-Grapefruit-3613 I have a stray kitten and my cats don’t like her

I have two cats from the same litter and they get along great. They’re 3 years old now.
My husband got a stray kitten from the golf course he works at. Got her checked out at the vet she’s about 6 weeks now.
She was terrified for about a week but is coming around now and we keep her in the guest bedroom.
I’ve brought my cats in just holding them and when they look at the cat they hiss and don’t seem happy. I just let them look and they hiss and then put them back outside the door. I also tried to give them wet food in the room to make them like the kitten.
Could it be that they will just never like the kitten and I should find someone to adopt the kitten??
What can I do to facilitate them getting along?

2024.05.21 10:12 Hennesey10 Boomer got political out of no where

I worked at an all golf course and we get a lot of boomers there. One day I’m picking up a golf cart to wash and it’s next to these guys talking. As I’m jumping in the golf cart the younger guys leave and the boomer says something like “how’s it going young man?” We have that respectful small talk conversation everyone has when being nice. He asked me about school and he happened to have a logo for one school on his car. I asked him is that where he went and he says that’s where his grandkids play baseball. This took a weird turn. He says his grandsons worked hard to get there and it’s not fair people with student loans want their loans discharged when he and his family had to work hard for everything blah blah blah. Then he goes on to say something like it’s also not fair how people are getting hired because of their race and ethnicity. He asked me my name and I have a South American name and I am white but my family is from Brasil. So when he asked me about my background I told him I’m a white Brasilian and he took as if white pride was what I was signaling. He winked and said he knew where I was getting at and then started bringing up politics. He said we need more young people in office. He told me Trump is a son of b!tch but Biden Is worse and the devil. Then explains to me saying how during Trump’s term in office he was making way more in his investment. Then goes on to say we need Trump one last time before we young people start taking over because Biden is ruining the country. It gets crazier because he went on to say “I think the blacks are getting smarter and the Hispanics are getting smarter” stating that they are realizing Trump is what the country needs. He then tips his hat to me and says people my age are making an effort to change this country for the better. I was confused at the whole interaction. I maybe said 25 words in the 20 minute conversation we had.

2024.05.21 09:09 caseygolf2604 After 46 days, here is what I have learned from going nearly sugar free (low sugar).

As a slightly obese college student who was (and still is) looking to lose weight, and improve the skin on my face, going to a low sugar diet was relatively easy to start. It is about having motivation and committing to starting. I had a problem where I would be eating large quantities of ice cream at night and would crave it all of the time when I had time alone. I really wanted to change this habit, but ice cream and other sweets were hard to put down. I decided to really commit to the bit and make sure I would be checking nearly everything I eat and seeing how much natural and added sugars were in each thing moving forward toward this nearly sugar free (low sugar) transitional diet. For me, my exercise is moderate, and will occasionally go on walks and play sports, but that is the extent of it.
I set some rules for myself for how this low suganearly sugar free diet would go. 1. Absolutely no sweets of any kind (Candies, Ice Cream, Pastries, etc.) 2. No sweeteners of any kind (Sucralose, Aspartame, Stevia, etc.) (I don't have sodas, fizzy drinks or anything like that anyways so this one didn't really apply to me.) 3. Avoid added sugars if possible (or lower amounts of added sugars if alternatives aren't feasible) Things like bread sometimes have a little bit of added sugar, so going for breads that are low in this department are better than ones with high amounts of added sugar. Things like Brioche buns and sandwich bread can be really high in sugar like 7-15 grams, while a giant white sub roll from Jersey Mikes only has 3 grams of sugar. 4. Check all labels for serving size, sugar content, and bad sweeteners such as corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. Even if product says there is 0g of added sugar on the label, there still might be sweeteners that allow for the brand to mark the product as sugar free, as the serving size can dictate that sometimes. 5. Aim for a high protein, high fat, medium carb diet daily. 6. No more than 50 grams of total natural sugars per day. Don't eat too much fruit. 6. Avoid all highly processed foods and snacks when possible 7. Reduce dairy intake, do away with cheeses on occasion
Here's a timeline of what occurred so far through these first 46 days
First two days: I would think about ice cream and sugars occasionally, but was easy to put aside, and had the motivation to eat a regular low sugar diet.
Days 3-10: Easily the toughest days. I would just be thinking about sugar and craving it constantly. I would not leave my mind to have a bite of a cookie, or a scoop of ice cream. It made me want sugar so badly, which made me realize how addicted I actually was to sugar. I lost 10 pounds in 10 days, which kept me engaged and motivated to continue this diet.
Days 10-14: Headaches! I had a few headaches and it sucked, with each headache lasting about 30 minutes to two hours. Apparently, this is extremely common, and even expected. During these days without the headaches, I still had cravings for ice cream and other sweets, but I noticed it was getting easier to avoid these things.
Week 3: Even from day 10, I noticed that my breath, even with brushing my teeth, flossing, mouthwash rinsing, and tongue cleaning, smelled horrible, and it did not make any sense to me. This goes away eventually and it has not returned ever since the end of week 3. I went searching around, and I guess this is a common thing.
Weeks 4 -7 (present): The cravings have not completely gone away regarding sugar, but every time I think about them, I just think that they seem way too sweet, and it actually turns me away from actually wanting to purchase ice cream or make any sweets. Since the start of this diet, I have lost a total of 15 pounds at about 1 pound per week. Going low sugar or nearly sugar free is so much easier after the 3rd week, and avoiding sugars feels so much easier.
There is a caveat here in that I did have a regular 24 oz gatorade on day 10, but I was playing tennis and another half of a gatorade sometime during week 4 when playing golf. So there were two times that I "violated" my diet rules, but I'll give myself a pass because I was outside, sweating, and needed the sodium electrolytes at those given times.
There are a couple of tips that I can offer that made this diet much easier to do. 1. Snacking. One trick that I have been using in order to feed into my cravings a little bit is to eat apples and popcorn. - Popcorn, especially homemade popped popcorn (not microwaved), is a cheat code. Popcorn contains no sugar at all, and is low in calories, making cravings easier to manage. For me, I have a popcorn maker that I put in like half a tablespoon of avocado oil with about 1/3-1/2 cup of popcorn kernels, and top with a tablespoon of butter and salt. If you are looking for a more convenient option, or don't have a popcorn maker, or don't want to make popcorn on the stove, I would suggest looking for the bagged popcorn, that is cooked in Avocado or Olive Oil instead of the seed oils (because seed oils contribute to fatty liver disease, amongst other health problems), even though these can be really tough to find. If you live in the Northeastern United States, Wegmans sells a bagged popcorn cooked in Olive Oil that is a really good option. - Apples were another food that I ate both when I wanted a snack, and occasionally for dessert. Apples are high in natural sugars, but are also high in fiber, so it'll be easier for the sugar to pass compared to processed sugars. I would have organic Pink Lady apples and the Costco, Kirkland Signature all natural peanut butter that has no added sugar to it. The only ingredients are just peanuts and salt. I prefer natural peanut butter to the ones with sugar in it anyways, so this was a go-to option. For me I would have up to two apples a day, and that was about all of my fruit intake for the day. Obviously, berries and other fruits are also good options for snacking and desserts, but just make sure not to overdo it because if you consume too much natural sugar, it will have a similar affect to consuming processed sugar. 2. If you are someone who carries a little extra weight, continue to weigh yourself everyday, it keeps you motivated to continue. There will be some days where you might gain a pound here, and lose a pound there, but over the course of a week, you'll notice that you'll slowly lose weight over time. 3. Treat yourself on occasion (but not with sugars). Eating a healthy balance of proteins, fats, and carbs is important. But every once in a while, do not be afraid to have pizza or burgers and fries, and/or other more traditionally "unhealthy" foods. But be careful, ketchup, for example, for just a tablespoon has 3 grams of added sugar in it, so be careful about dipping sauces and condiments. Still watch out for sugars! 4. Identify what healthy foods you like to eat for meals, and continue to have those things if possible. Cook at home instead of going out to eat if possible, unless you can afford to purchase and identify healthy takeaway foods.
Another important note, I have read in several places that sugar can have a similar affect to alcohol with several bodily functions, and can prohibit weight loss while also resulting in weight gain. I would highly recommend to avoid all alcohol at all costs because it might actually be counter productive to drink alcohol and go sugar free because the alcohol will act in a similar capacity to how sugar is processed. Alcohol is made from fermenting sugars after all.
For me, once I made it past week 3, everything gets so much easier from there. I hope someone found this helpful or had clarified any questions that one may have had.

2024.05.21 08:59 yaiyen Japan in the 1980s: when Tokyo’s Imperial Palace was worth more than California and golf club membership could cost US$3 million – 5 crazy facts about the bubble economy

From fraud fuelled by a stock market-predicting ceramic frog to the ‘economic Pearl Harbour’ which saw Japanese companies buy up New York’s Rockefeller Center and Hollywood’s Columbia Pictures, East Asia’s economic golden age was one wild time for those at the top.
The mid- and late-1980s were the years of Japan’s “bubble economy”, a time when the country was at its economic peak. It was awash with money, fuelling evermore conspicuous consumption, and Western scholars, spurred on by books like Ezra Vogel’s Japan as Number One (1979), sought to predict when Japan would surpass the United States as having the largest economy in the world.
Of course, that story never came to pass. At the end of 1989, the Nikkei 225 stock market reached 39,000, a historic high. Three years later, more than half of that had been wiped out with the market at just 17,000 by the end of 1992.
However, while the good times rolled, Japan enjoyed unprecedented wealth. Here are five crazy facts from that time. The Imperial Palace in Tokyo was worth more than all of California.
Between 1956 and 1986, the price of land increased by as much as 5,000 per cent in Japan. At the peak of the bubble economy, Tokyo real estate could sell for as much as US$139,000 per square foot, which was nearly 350 times as much as equivalent space in Manhattan. By that reckoning, the Imperial Palace in Tokyo was worth as much as the entire US state of California.
It wasn’t just Tokyo that was super expensive, though. Despite Japan occupying the equivalent of only four per cent of the land mass of the entire US – Japan is about the same size as California – the value of the Japanese property market was four-times greater than that of the USA.
Land-price inflation was so distorted that land constituted 65 per cent of Japan’s national wealth, compared to just 2.5 per cent for the UK at the time.
As the Japanese economy prospered there developed an increasing appreciation for the sport of golf. With their aura of exclusivity, golf club memberships were in high demand – and came at attendant high prices. It has been estimated that the value of club membership, as a tradeable commodity, shot up by 400 per cent between 1982 and 1989 – and then an additional 190 per cent in 1989 at the height of the bubble.
Membership of the most exclusive country clubs could cost as much as ¥400 million (US$3.7 million) – the cost of entire golf courses in other countries. As a result, the Nikkei Golf Club Membership Index was created to monitor the value of golf club memberships – and at its zenith the total market value of memberships was estimated at an astounding US$200 billion.
In 1985, Japan, France, West Germany, the UK and the US signed the Plaza Accord, which aimed to lower the value of the dollar in relation to the Yen and German Deutsche Mark. The intention was to make American exports cheaper, easing America’s trade deficit.

2024.05.21 08:55 BubonicSpazzmaster I've lost everyone I know and care about in this city...

I realize this is super tame compared to what a lot of people go through, but it's been a bit of a tough time for me.
So, I (26) moved to a new city for school (paramedic training). I didn't know anyone here, but ended up meeting a dude [#1 (38)] and becoming friends pretty quickly. He actually ended up getting a job at the college I'm going to, so it was easy too meet up for coffee before his work started, since the bus got him there a half hour early, and I had to be there for classes, anyway; sometimes he'd come by my home for dinner on the way to the bus station after work. He took me to play disk golf, we went skating together. It was a good thing, for a while.
I ended up befriending a fellow in my class [#2 (33)], as well. We grabbed coffee a couple times. Went for lunch a couple times; studied together some. I got pig hearts from a butcher for us to cut up and look at, since they're quite similar to human hearts, and having something 3D and tangible can be easier to learn from than the 2D drawings we'd been looking at. He said it was nice to know someone who wasn't afraid to dig into stuff like that. I also coaxed him out on a run, which he seemed super stoked about afterwards, and was really gung-ho about going again the very next day, after class. Annnnd then after class the next day, he didn't meet up with me for our run. I texted him that I was still around on campus, if he still wanted to run. A bit later he texted back that he'd been tied up helping another student practice their skills. When asked if he still wanted to run that day, or postpone, he said he actually didn't want to do it at all, anymore. (What? Running again the next day was HIS idea, and he was super excited about it!)
After that, we didn't connect for a while, and I figured that relationship had run its course... until the next semester he suggested we watch Trainspotting together. So he came over, I made lunch, and we watched the movie. That kicked off a much stronger friendship, and he was over a few times to watch movies and/or eat dinner or whatever, or we'd meet up to study together, etc. We took walks together; sometimes we cooked together. He got along with my housemates really well, and absolutely charmed them. He started going in for hugs from me every time he left. It felt like we were getting really close. We were both busy with school, and I had work, so I was excited to further get to know him once classes ended, before our practicums started, since we would have more free time for a couple weeks.
I threw a party for my classmates & housemates after exams. It ended up being quite small; only a handful of people stayed long. #2 stayed for quite a while and seemed to be enjoying picking out music and socializing, but eventually said he was ready to leave, We hugged goodnight and he left on foot (it's only a 15-minute walk home). I thought he seemed kind of off that night (vaguely sad, maybe), so the next day I asked him over for dinner. I wanted to make sure he was okay, and make sure he'd figured out new housing, as his lease was running out and he was stressed out finding elsewhere to go. He initially said "sure," but then a couple minutes later decided he was "too peopled out" but "another time." I could understand that; I'm quite introverted, too. We text-chatted briefly that night, and then I never heard from him again.
It was okay if he didn't want to be friends; I just wanted to know he was safe. But to go from being super close, cooking together, hugging goodbye, him asking if he could stay here a while since he might not have elsewhere to go, and then just... vanish? I'm so confused. I worried about him, but also wanted to respect whatever decision he was making to cut me out, so ceased trying to get in touch when a couple texts went unanswered. I'm not here to harass people who don't want my company.
A couple weeks later, he resurfaced at the convocation. He didn't participate in the ceremony –– just stood in the audience –– and, as far as I know, he didn't interact with anyone there. Odd, odd, odd! He walked right past me (twice!) while my grandmother was taking a photo, and I thought I would go track him down and say Hi in a minute, but did not manage to do so. I wish I'd told my family to hold on a minute and just gone to talk to him right then, just to see that he was okay and had somewhere to live... maybe try to get an explanation on why we suddenly weren't speaking.
#2 and I were both supposed to have our hospital practicums mid-May, but somehow the practicum coordinator lost mine, and I was only able to get a new spot late-June. 2 of my housemates moved out for the Summer (I'm left with the one that is hardest to get along with, but we are getting closer now), as did the other two classmates I made friends with (#3 and #4, ~22y.o. women who lived pretty much next door); most of my class got practicum placements in different cities, so they dispersed. Dude #1 can't be bothered to catch the bus to work so we can get coffee and chat (he's taken to getting taxis every day, which get him there right as his work starts, and it somehow rubs me the wrong way that he thinks nothing of dropping that much on transportation when the buses here are SO EASY and quick to use from his place to the college). He still asks to meet, sometimes, but doesn't seem to want to put any effort into hanging out, so the rare time we do manage to get together now, it's me putting in the work, working around his whims, making the trip up to his neck of the woods. He's also gotten increasingly odd, and is deep in some conspiracy jazz about the Earth being flat and the like. Dude #2 would be done his practicum and likely out of the city by now. My best friend [#5 (37)], who I've known almost a decade, has been too ill to really chat with me lately –– he's been sick for years; some days are better than others.
So I'm left here, all alone, waiting on a practicum that should have already come and gone, and I just can't stop thinking, wondering what I did wrong that would drive #2 away so quickly and completely. He'd once told me he'd keep in touch, even once we were done at the college. I thought we would remain friends for years. The chemistry just seemed to be so spot-on; I was looking forward to further hanging out and getting to know him once classes ended. I'm frustrated about what's happened to the friendship I had with #1, sad to lose #3 and #4 just as we were starting to become good friends, devastated and scared by the illness that's taking #5, and I'm just not enjoying being alone. I used to like having my space and keeping to myself (aside from #5; I could talk to him forever, but he gets so tired out so quickly these days), but I met some good people here and have been enjoying the social side of life, and it feels awful having that ripped away from me like this.
My family is hours away and I won't be seeing them again anytime soon. I have no-one left in this city. I just feel so bored and lonely and empty and confused. If only I could get some closure on what happened with #2. If only #5 was more okay. If only I had one consistent person that I didn't have to lose. I've joined a martial arts gym to try to keep myself busy, so I have something other than work to do, but it just doesn't fill the hole.

2024.05.21 06:54 AngryKhakis North West Indianapolis Courses

Hey yall gonna be staying near Brownsburg for the 500.
Anybody got any course recommendations?
Looking on a map i see west chase and quail creek but all the reviews on golf pass are quite dated minus one on west chase from this year but that guy was just mad he couldn’t have 3 threesomes play which is ridiculous especially when the course is dead but obviously not a good review of the course.
I prefer links style courses but if there’s nothing like that close no big deal.

32 [M4F] Dallas - Hawaii vibes in the Yeehaw state! Looking for a lifetime of chill vibes and love!
Howdy y'all! Long time lurker finally deciding to make a post after getting tired of the craziness of dating apps! I'm looking for a long term relationship, hopefully leading to marriage, but definitely open to seeing where things go!
Some about me: 32 year old black dude, working full time in the healthcare tech industry. Physically, I'm 6'6, dad bod as some would describe (working on my fitness!) (pictures attached 🙂). I rarely drink now, I take edibles occasionally on the weekends, but otherwise no other drug use.
Hobbies and interests: big into nerdy stuff like, comic books (religiously read Marvel, starting to get into DC comics more as well!) Video games (mainly single player RPGs like BG3 and chill games like Stardew Valley). I've also watched plenty of anime, but don't have the same interest anymore, but still like Blue Eye Samurai and Castlevania! Also like doing things like bowling, mini golf, and axe throwing!
Love watching and talking about movies and shows, especially around horror, sci Fi, fantasy, comedy, thrillers, documentaries, action and martial arts! One of my favorite things to do is watch bad movies and laugh with friends! Come watch Madame Web with me! 😂
Recently started travelling more, just got back from LA! Will be taking my first international trip to Wales this summer for my birthday!
Looking for someone who's intelligent, hilarious, nerdy, and of course child free! No concerns about pets, allergic to cats, but I'm not too bothered by it lol. I plan to get a corn snake soonish! Not looking to really adopt at any point. Open to all ethnicities, prefer tall, but everyone is typically a shorty to me! 😉 Lol
Live in Dallas, might be potentially looking to move to San Francisco, depending on my job and potential opportunities, so prefer folks from there, but would be open to chatting with others around the US!
Send me a message and happy to chat and see where things go!

2024.05.21 05:38 possiblyukranian Are country clubs worth it?

From what I’ve seen it’s a huge entrance fee and everything in the club costs more money. Why not go to a bar, a spa, and a golf course and just pay those prices instead of paying an entrance fee to pay to get to do everything else?
