'Planet of the Apes' is now available for streaming on Hulu
Good News! You can now stream the entire "Planet of the Apes" series on Hulu. This sets the stage for the upcoming release of the latest installment, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," hitting theaters on May 10th.

Adapted from Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel, the franchise revolves around the struggle for dominance between humans and apes. With a cumulative box office revenue of over $1.7 billion, the series has achieved significant commercial success.
All nine films in the "Planet of the Apes" series are now accessible for streaming on Hulu. The inaugural film that set the foundation for the entire franchise is the 1968 movie "Planet of the Apes," which depicts the story of astronaut George Taylor and his crew as they land on a planet where apes reign supreme and humans are primitive.
All four of these movies were released within a single decade: "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" (1970), "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" (1971), "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" (1972), and "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" (1973). In these films, the storyline continues to focus on apes as dominant rulers who seize control over humans.

2024.05.07 03:01 Arceroth Returned Protector ch5

“Dalia, can you deal with the chaff?” Orlan asked, one of his knights approaching from where she’d been towards the back of the formation. While all of the knights wore distinctly feminine armor, Dalia’s was on another level, like a strange mix of amor and an evening gown. With a flourish she returned her paired blades to the single sheath they shared.
“I’ve just the spell,” Dalia replied with a feral smile.
“Try not to burn down the forest this time,” Lailra teased.
“One time,” Dalia grumbled in annoyance even as she took a deep breath. Reaching out with both hands five concentric circles of blazing red light flashed into existence in the air. Orlan motioned for the others to cover her while she cast, while magic was extremely powerful it took time to summon, especially when casting spells at or near your limit. As a fifth sphere mage Dalia’s limit was fifth tier magic, it was possible to push past those limits but it wasn’t something you wanted to do in combat.
Orlan summoned a quick barrier as the ant princess noticed the glowing magic and began casting her own spell. Alia added a wind shield and between them they managed to deflect or block the stone spears that shot their direction. Some of the nearest ants had begun rushing up the slope towards them, but a withering hail of low tier spells forced them back onto the fairway. Given time the ants would eventually overwhelm them through sheer numbers, but all they had to do was hold the mass off until Dalia’s spell finished.
“Ballet of the Dancing Flame,” Dalia said as the spell circles she’d summoned flared, a mass of burning mana shot from the spell towards the ant horde. The Royal guard were quick to pull the princess back and cover her with their massive shields, but rather than impacting the spell seemed to slow down and transform midair.
The ball of energetic mana burst to reveal a ballet dancer made of reddish energy, as if some kind of off color ghost. The dancer landed gracefully among the ants, at more than double their height she was easily seen even without the bright red-orange light she gave off. She began to dance to some unheard song, pirouetting and spinning across the battlefield at a deceptively slow pace. Any ant her spinning foot or sweeping hands touched was almost instantly incinerated, but the real danger was dozens of flecks of red energy sent flying with each of her movements. Drifting like snowflakes anything they landed upon they burned. Grass, chitin, dirt and rock all burned beneath these sparks of mana.
Dalia’s main inherent ability was an increase in power for spells or attacks that were beautiful, while the dancer was a fifth tier spell this ability pushed it to match a sixth tier in power. Even as it burned ants by the hundred the Royal Guard were largely unaffected, their shields able to repel the flakes of fire the dancer gave off. The dancer was insubstantial but could still be blown, any time she got too close to the guards they waved their shields, the wind pushing her away as if she were a cloud of mist. This kept a small core of ants around the royal guard safe while the majority of the army burned.
“Well done,” Orlan nodded in approval as Dalia fell to a knee in exhaustion, though her smile never wavered as she took in the destructive beauty of her spell, “Nallia, stay here with Dalia, keep her safe and provide fire support.”
“Yes Lord,” the blank faced mage-knight agreed.
“The rest of you, as soon as her spell ends, we’re going in,” Orlan continued, “It’ll be hard to get at the princess while her guard are still up, so we’ll take them down first. Alia, Lailra, you keep the others locked down while Pena and I focus down one at a time.”
“Yes Lord.”
“Yes Master.”
Orlan barely waited for the chorus of agreements before dashing down the mountain, his heavy armor and strength allowing him to plow through the brush in his way. Only occasionally did he seem to flicker in and out of existence as he rift-stepped through a larger bush or tree. Dalia’s dancer burst after a last spinning flourish to kill off the last of the ant monsters remaining near the royal guards, the rest having scattered to avoid the destruction. This left a field of smoldering ash as the stage for the battle, the fairway being almost unrecognizable.
The princess attempted to fired off another wave of spikes at Orlan and the charging knights, but a beam of light forced one of her guard to pull her back and shield her from Nallia’s spell. Approaching within a hundred feet Orlan drew his arm back and threw his spear without breaking stride, a greenish spell circle appearing in its path as Lailra cast an enhancement spell on the throw. Orlan still scowled as the spear failed to break the sound barrier even as it rocketed through the air towards the ants. Two Royal Guard attempted to cover one another with their massive round shields, only for a gust of wind to buffet one of them, preventing them from stacking up.
Seeing its partner stumble away the Royal Guard was forced to angle its shield to deflect the spear away, barely managing it before the weapon struck. Despite catching the throw at an angle, the spear left a large dent and long, deep scratch in the thick bronze shield before finally being turned away, rendering the shield nearly useless. Rather than waste time dumping the damaged shield the guard ant drew its own spear back to strike the now unarmed Orlan as he quickly followed his spear.
The torso sized spear tip lashed out, perfectly timed to meet Orlan just as he entered range, but the protector vanished the instant the ant committed to the attack, stepping through space to appear beneath the massive centaur-like ant. More confusingly for the royal guard was the fact that he was holding the spear he’d thrown in both hands. Despite catching the monster off guard the spear was unable to penetrate the thick chitin of the ant’s leg, while the weapon was sharp enough Orlan’s reduced strength wasn’t enough to push it through, resulting in a modest scratch but no real damage.
To the side the second royal guard was busy dealing with a confusing maelstrom of winds that constantly pushed it around, Alia’s main inherent ability giving her winds greater force but made them harder to control. This made her perfect for pushing physically superior opponents around, locking them down, even if she lacked the ability to deal them serious harm. A third royal guard was struggling against torrents of incorporeal thorn covered vines, its carapace slowly beginning to rot away from Lailra’s abilities. The final was forced to stay back and cover the princess as intermittent blasts of light or fire lanced down from the two knights back atop the ridge. Neither presented a real risk to the royal guard as Dalia was low on mana while Nallia’s light lacked impact, but the instinct to protect their princess was too great to abandon her.
Orlan rift-stepped backwards through a shield bash only to be caught in the side by a wild sweep of his opponent’s spear, launching him a dozen feet away. Aside from a slight bruise he was unharmed, his armor absorbing much of the impact, but it was a grim reminder of how much strength he’d lost with his spheres. An instant after he hit the ground he’d stepped through space and was once again assaulting the leg of the royal guard, his spear blurring from a simple attack spell, causing the weapon to strike three times with each thrust. It reduced the force behind each strike by a third as well, but that was immaterial to Orlan. His core inherent ability, the one gained at the first sphere, was his hidden weapon. Not as flashy as rift-step nor as utilitarian as his person spaces, void strike caused the spear-tip to glow with an unearthly black light that was injected into the target with each strike.
Shifting its weight the royal guard kicked out with the leg Orlan was assaulting, forcing him back while it began to turn its attention away from the seemingly impotent protector. But as it brought its foot back down the entire leg crumbled like it was made from sand, the light of the void corroding the chitin. As the massive ant stumbled Orlan rift stepped into the air, his spear lashing out at the eyes of the great monster. It flinched away so the thrust struck its forehead instead, leaving a nasty gash in the carapace but failing to penetrate. Despite that Orlan summoned a small barrier beneath a foot so he could once more rift-step away from the royal guard, flashing over to the ant being battered by Alia, ignoring it as it had intended to ignore him moments earlier. But it barely got a chance to right itself before the void energies injected into its head damaged its small brain.
Its simple mind was unable to comprehend what was happening as its limbs twitched and seized, seemingly ignoring its desires. For several more seconds it struggled to control its thrashing limbs, falling to the ground, before the damage caused by the void strike spread too far and it fell dead.
Seeing one of her royal guard fall, with another soon to follow judging by the vast swaths of rotting chitin on the one facing Lailra, sent the Princess into a rage. Ignoring the attempts to protect her she summoned several spells and began firing spears of earth wildly at the humans who dared attack her hive. Before the lances could strike anything a beam of light lashed out like a sniper to engulf her head. One of her eyes was instantly reduced to a smoking husk while the other seemed distorted, but Nallia wasn’t a damage dealer, so while the tier three spell had struck directly against the ant princess’s skull it failed to eliminate her. Instead it seemed to drive her even more wild, her sight damaged she threw spears wildly in every direction, even striking her own royal guard a couple times.
Seeing the opening Orlan stepped past the confused guard, his spear flashing out and cleanly removing the princess’s head in a single strike. A second royal guard falling moments later from a combination of Lailra’s rot and the princess’s spikes. From there it was only a matter of time before the last two guards fell, their protective instinct so strong that they refused to abandon the princess even seeing her dead. The other regular ants had begun to gather once more, but seeing the princess fall they had no qualms about fleeing, scattering into the mountains. Many were cut down by the second lance which had spread out to contain such a scattering.
Groups of survivors even took their own toll on the fleeing mass, heavy hunting rifles and shotguns brought down at least two dozen of the monsters as the horde fled. With no organized resistance the national guard units finally managed to push north, reaching the golf course as Orlan and his knights finally gave up on chasing the last few ants.
-----
“No way we’ve enough space in the hold for all’a this,” the captain of one of the two cutters said, shaking his head looking at the pile of ant monsters fifteen minutes later.
“Focus on the bronze and the bodies of the royal guard then,” Orlan replied after a moment, “I think most of the weapons are imbued to tier one or two which should help repair the damage the island took.”
“You already throw the weapons of the guard in your personal space?” the captain asked.
“Along with the body of the princess,” he agreed, “that’s all at least tier three, so hopefully we can get another cutter or two operational with it.”
“Shame there’s no good wood on this side,” the other man added, “harbormaster says he can only fix a couple cutt’rs with what lumber ‘e’s got.”
Orlan simply nodded, the sky docks were hit especially hard during the transit, leaving them with only two functional sky-cutters. Compared to the half dozen they’d had it vastly reduced their transport abilities. It was one of the main reasons he’d been forced to leave the training lance behind, there simply wasn’t space to bring them on the ships they had. Not if they wanted enough room to bring a useful amount of loot back.
Looting the monsters was the main way Protector Lords sustained themselves, combined with a largely self-sufficient town on their islands allowed them to remain almost completely independent of outside funding. Of course several kingdoms on the other side had issues with the arrangement, to the extent that there had been several wars about it, but it remained the standard.
“Looks like the local’s wanna talk,” the captain said, breaking Orlan out of his thoughts and gesturing with his chin towards where a couple men in camos were approaching. Orlan took a breath and turned to meet them, several of his knights pausing in their work to pay attention.
“Orlan?” the large man asked, holding out a hand in greeting, “Major Williamson of the North Carolina National Guard.”
“Pleased to meet you,” Orlan replied, taking the offered hand only to pause as the Major’s other hand came up to slap a cuff around his wrist.
“I was told to arrest you if…” Williamson started, only to trail off and Orlan reached up, pinched the cuff between two fingers and, with a simple twist, snapped the metal as if it were cardboard.
“There going to be a problem” Orlan asked.
“Nope,” the Major said, sounding almost relieved, “I’ve some friends who live in Jefferson so I’m grateful you were able to save people. I had my orders, though, and this way I can say I did my best.”
“Fair enough,” Orlan shrugged after a moment, then gestured over his shoulder, “my girls have avoided using magic healing where possible, so there’s a number of wounded scattered about. We tried centralizing them where possible, but we don’t have the resources to treat them all.”
“We’ll handle it,” Williamson replied, motioning to the man next to him, “just give the Lieutenant their locations and conditions.”
“Nallia,” called Orlan, the blank faced knight appearing and producing a scroll which she handed to the Lieutenant.
“You going to completely police the field?” Williamson asked once that was done, “I’ve got no orders to the effect, but I imagine the brass will be upset if you take everything like you did in Boston.”
“We don’t have the ability to take everything,” Orlan snorted, “we’re focusing on the most valuable stuff but there will be hundreds of monster corpses we can’t fit.”
“Great.”
“A word of warning, though, magical materials are dangerous,” Orlan added, “just handling them should be safe enough but if you start messing with them you’re likely to release large amounts of mana. Even if you aren’t allergic to the mana it can still cause injuries.”
“I’ll pass the warning along, but chances are they’ll ignore you.”
“They’ll learn one way or another,” shrugged Orlan, about to turn away when he paused and reached out to pull some fruit from his personal space, offering one to Williamson, “banana?”
“What?” the large army man asked, confused.
“Passed through a half collapsed grocery store while fighting,” Orlan explained, “there aren’t any bananas on the other side so I grabbed some. Will that be an issue?”
“Well, no but…” Williamson stuttered.
“So you don’t want one?” Orlan asked as the major seemed confused before shrugging and walking away. As he walked he returned the bunch to his personal space long enough to peel the fruit he’d separated, retrieving the bunch to offer one to various knights and sky-cutter crew that had gathered to watch the meeting.
They all seemed interested, watching as Orlan demonstrated how to peel and eat the fruit before he moved on, retrieving more of the fruit to distribute. The knights ate with a feminine grace that was at odds with their blood-stained armor while the sailors quickly scoffed the fruit down before returning to their work of loading up the flying ships.
“Major?” one of Williamson’s asides interrupted the man’s thoughts, “something the matter sir?”
“No,” he replied after a moment, looking down at the dark skin of his hands.
-----
“You have been ordered to appear before congress,” the voice on the other side of the phone explained to Orlan, “an emergency session has been called three days from now, you are to arrive at the capitol building by nine in the morning.”
“Ordered, huh?” Orlan asked.
“You claim to be a US citizen, if that’s the case then yes, ordered.”
“You’re not making this easy for me,” Orlan sighed, “Protector Lords aren’t beholden to any nation or king.”
“You’ve been operating a military force on US soil and you expect a polite invitation?” the other man asked skeptically.
“Last I checked the US doesn’t own any floating islands and, before you try to claim this one, we do, in fact, have a flag,” Orlan retorted with a smile that slowly faded as the line remained silent, “guess that joke has been forgotten.”
“I’d argue that we’re being very generous by having you appear before congress rather than taking you directly to jail,” the other man replied after a moment.
“I hate politics,” Orlan groaned openly, “what kind of hearing is it?”
“This is a public hearing.”
“So you want to grandstand at me, great,” he sighed again, “fine, assuming there isn’t another rift I’ll be there.”
“Good,” the other man replied before hanging up.
“Are you really going?” Lailra asked as Orlan dropped the phone back into his personal space.
“I need to talk with the government one way or another, I’d prefer to do it on my terms but clearly they aren’t going to let me do that,” Orlan explained.
“It’ll make them think they’re in charge,” she warned.
“They can think what they want, I’ll disabuse them of that notion if needed.”

2024.05.07 00:32 Ur_Anemone The New Propaganda War

The New Propaganda War
…Russian information-laundering and Chinese propaganda have long had different goals. Chinese propagandists mostly stayed out of the democratic world’s politics, except to promote Chinese achievements, Chinese economic success, and Chinese narratives about Tibet or Hong Kong…Russian efforts were more aggressive—sometimes in conjunction with the far right or the far left in the democratic world—and aimed to distort debates and elections in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and elsewhere. Still, they often seemed unfocused, as if computer hackers were throwing spaghetti at the wall, just to see which crazy story might stick. Venezuela and Iran were fringe players, not real sources of influence.
Slowly, though, these autocracies have come together, not around particular stories, but around a set of ideas, or rather in opposition to a set of ideas. Transparency, for example. And rule of law. And democracy…
This is the core problem for autocracies: The Russians, the Chinese, the Iranians, and others all know that the language of transparency, accountability, justice, and democracy appeals to some of their citizens, as it does to many people who live in dictatorships. Even the most sophisticated surveillance can’t wholly suppress it. The very ideas of democracy and freedom must be discredited—especially in the places where they have historically flourished.
Most don’t offer their fellow citizens a vision of utopia, and don’t inspire them to build a better world. Instead, they teach people to be cynical and passive, apathetic and afraid, because there is no better world to build. Their goal is to persuade their own people to stay out of politics, and above all to convince them that there is no democratic alternative:
Our state may be corrupt, but everyone else is corrupt too. You may not like our leader, but the others are worse. You may not like our society, but at least we are strong. The democratic world is weak, degenerate, divided, dying.
…Russians, although they hear very little about what happens in their own towns and cities, receive similar messages about the decline of places they don’t know and have mostly never visited: America, France, Britain, Sweden, Poland—countries apparently filled with degeneracy, hypocrisy, and Russophobia…
The infrastructure of antidemocratic propaganda takes many forms, some overt and some covert, some aimed at the public and some aimed at elites…
None of these efforts would succeed without local actors who share the autocratic world’s goals. Russia, China, and Venezuela did not invent anti-Americanism…All they do is amplify existing people and movements—whether anti-LGBTQ, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, anti-Ukrainian, or, above all, antidemocratic. Sometimes they provide a social-media echo. Sometimes they employ reporters and spokespeople. Sometimes they use the media networks they built for this purpose. And sometimes, they just rely on Americans to do it for them.
Here is the difficult truth: a part of the American political spectrum is not merely a passive recipient of the combined authoritarian narratives that come from Russia, China, and their ilk, but an active participant in creating and spreading them. Like the leaders of those countries, the American MAGA right also wants Americans to believe that their democracy is degenerate, their elections illegitimate, their civilization dying. The MAGA movement’s leaders also have an interest in pumping nihilism and cynicism into the brains of their fellow citizens, and in convincing them that nothing they see is true. Their goals are so similar that it is hard to distinguish between the online American alt-right and its foreign amplifiers, who have multiplied since the days when this was solely a Russian project…
Given that both Russian and Chinese actors now blend in so easily with the MAGA messaging operation, it is hardly surprising that the American government has difficulty responding to the newly interlinked autocratic propaganda network. American-government-backed foreign broadcasters—Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Farda, Radio Martí—still exist, but neither their mandate nor their funding has changed much in recent years. The intelligence agencies continue to observe what happens—there is a Foreign Malign Influence Center under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence—but they are by definition not part of the public debate. The only relatively new government institution fighting antidemocratic propaganda is the Global Engagement Center, but it is in the State Department, and its mandate is to focus on authoritarian propaganda outside the United States.…
Today the GEC is run by James Rubin, a former State Department spokesperson from the Bill Clinton era. It employs 125 people and has a budget of $61 million—hardly a match for the many billions that China and Russia spend building their media networks. But it is beginning to find its footing, handing out small grants to international groups that track and reveal foreign disinformation operations. It’s now specializing in identifying covert propaganda campaigns before they begin, with the help of U.S. intelligence agencies. Rubin calls this “prebunking” and describes it as a kind of “inoculation”: “If journalists and governments know that this is coming, then when it comes, they will recognize it.”…
Some social-media companies have made purely voluntary efforts to remove foreign-government propaganda, sometimes after being tipped off by the U.S. government but mostly on their own. In the U.S., Facebook created a security-policy unit that still regularly announces when it discovers “coordinated inauthentic behavior”—meaning accounts that are automated and/or evidently part of a planned operation from (usually) Russian, Iranian, or Chinese sources—and then takes down the posts. It is difficult for outsiders to monitor this activity, because the company restricts access to its data, and even controls the tools that can be used to examine the data…
Because the American extreme right and (more rarely) the extreme left benefit from the spread of antidemocratic narratives, they have an interest in silencing or hobbling any group that wants to stop, or even identify, foreign campaigns. Senator Mark Warner, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told me that “we are actually less prepared today than we were four years ago” for foreign attempts to influence the 2024 election. This is not only because authoritarian propaganda campaigns have become more sophisticated as they begin to use AI, or because “you obviously have a political environment here where there’s a lot more Americans who are more distrustful of all institutions.”…
One could call this a secret authoritarian “plot” to preserve the ability to spread antidemocratic conspiracy theories, except that it’s not a secret. It’s all visible, right on the surface. Russia, China, and sometimes other state actors—Venezuela, Iran, Hungary—work with Americans to discredit democracy, to undermine the credibility of democratic leaders, to mock the rule of law. They do so with the goal of electing Trump, whose second presidency would damage the image of democracy around the world, as well as the stability of democracy in America, even further.

2024.05.06 20:50 FancyFireDrake Operation Fate Order Mission Report

Operation: Fate Order Mission Report:
XX.XX.XXXX – XX.XX.XXXX
On the [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] the united Jumper groups of Yang Xiao Long (Remnant Designation [REDACTED]) and Eve Taurus von Hresvelg (Remnant Designation Unknown) went into a united Operation against the Multiverse spanning Anti Jumpchain terrorist cell known as the Chainbreakers. Lead by Gorr the Godbutcher, the groups latest action was to stop the emergence of Jumpers from the Fate/Nasuverse. The benefactor identified with these attempted Chainstarting events was Alaya, the Human Order trying to prepare against the TYPE Invasion.
The way by which Alaya intended to start Chains was specialized Holy Grail imitations, connected to the CP force and boosting magical power comparable to Goetias Ars Nova. The chosen servants were supposed to come across them and make the choice to Jump themselves.
10 Potential Jumpers have been located and groups send to judge how beneficial Alayas chosen would be as a Jumper and if needed defend them from Chainbreaker attacks. Lethal force is not authorized.
Reports:
1: Garden of Avalon
Operative: Jaune
Jumper Emergent: Artoria Pendragon
Chainbreaker: Empress of Mankind
Mission Success
Mission History:
Jaune Arc, in memory of his mentor Pyhrra Nikos and what he wanted to be so long ago, chose the Legend Jump with a connection to the King of Knights. His purchases allowed him to be a Knight unmatched even by Lancelot and Gawain together, wielding his own version of Excalibur.
Upon entering the Jump he departed to Artoria’s castle, at the same time as the resident chainbreaker. Said chainbreaker has been identified as a vastly less powerful and genderbend version of the God Emperor of Mankind.
NOTE: If said original Warhammer 40K universe had the Emperor naturally as a woman or if a Jumper had something to do with it is not known. It is also possible the Empress chose to take this form to manipulate Artoria better.
Artoria had heard about the Grail from Merlin and it was believed that with its power Camelot could be saved from the Quantum lock, stopping its destined fall. The Empress sought to manipulate Artoria into joining the Chainbreakers and surrendering the Grail where Jaune had intervened. On Artoria’s suggestion both Jaune and the Empress were allowed to make their case in a debate.
Reportedly the Empress doomed herself for a loss when she said ‘I know I am right’ upon which Jaune quickly countered that this rhetoric was exactly why she was destined too fail, laser focus on ones own belief to be worthy ultimately only running the risk of suffering and destroying yourself and those around you.
Touched by Jaunes honesty, Artoria chose his side. The Empress proceeded to instantly choose the route of Violence rather than risk Artoria becoming a Jumper, having used psyker powers to previously steal Avalon. Her life was saved by Mordred jumping in between the two of them.
NOTE: Mordred was not known to be the child of Morgan and Artoria and still hiding beneath her helmet.
The moment of surprise wasted, the Knights of the Round Table jumped the Empress, who was ultimately banished by both Jaune and Artoria unsealing all 13 Seals on Excalibur.
NOTE: The fact that the Empress seemed to be a valid target for all restrictions placed on Excalibur (among them including that the battle must be defending the Human Order and that The battle must not be against Humanity) shows worrying implications about the Empress current state of mind and nature.
Upon the Empress banishment Mordred was left comatose, with Artoria and Jaune alongside Galahad departing to retrieve the Grail to both save her life and save Camelot, by Artoria taking it with her along her own chain. Jaune has refused to talk about the events of their journey in detail but mentioned that Morgan stood in their way and Artoria discovered Mordreds true identity.
Upon returning to Camelot, without Galahad, Mordred was healed and preparations made to initiate the first Jump.
NOTE: Mordred had turned down being one of Artorias companions after the two had a heart to heart, unsure of her supposed destiny after Artoria explained why she didn’t want her to become a King but still accepted her. She was last seen wielding Rhongomyniad and departing on good terms as Artoria started the Jump.
Jaune Arc himself, despite his mission being successful, remained in fate a while longer, now an Agent of the counterforce. He would be summoned in future confrontations in the Fate world labelled as ‘The Rusted Knight’.
2: Baba Yaga
Operative: Eve and her companions
Jumper Emergent: Ivan the Terrible
Chainbreaker: Artoria Pendragon
Mission Partial Success
Mission History:
Eve Taurus von Hresvelgr alongside her companions resolved to tackle one of the locations as a group. Due to its unique circumstances, a Russia lost in an Eternal Blizzard under rule of a mutated Ivan the Terrible, it seems this approach was necessary to have any chance of success. The Grail had already been found by Ivans forces, however the mentally shattered Tyrant could not figure out how to use the Grail, hoping to instead of departing on a chain use it to stop the Blizzard and neverending Ice Age.
Misunderstanding Eves intentions Ivan ordered them to be hunted down. Blade Wolf remaining with Mordred in the city undercover whereas Eve, Edelgard, Naofumi, Raphtalia and Shadow investigated an uprising among the various villages.
This uprising was due to the chainbreaker Artoria Pendragon trying to rebel against the Tyrant and retrieve the Grail.
NOTE: Artoria was the only character native from Fate to be a part of the Chainbreakers. Why she chose to be a part of this Jump when her country of Brittain was a target as well is unclear.
NOTE: Eves Mordred, upon discovering the identity of the Chainbreaker forsook peaceful options in interacting with her.
A three way war broke out between Eves group Artorias rebellion and Ivans forces. In the climactic final fight, Ivan was crippled and finally talked down enough to understand what the Grail can do. Ivan, seeing himself as undeserving of what Jumpchain offered, requested that the Grail instead be used to give his world a chance of survival. Abiding by his wish, Shadow and Eve used chaos Control to tap into the Grails reserves and used it to restore the world.
Artoria, satisfied that Ivan would not be a Jumper and heavily wounded from the fight, tried to extract herself only to be stopped by Eves own Mordred, also heavily wounded. Father and son from different worlds duelled, ending with Mordred succeeding in striking down Artoria and impaling her with her own Rhongomyniad lance.
It was at this moment that Artoria was reported to be smiling, baffling Mordred as she explained her own past. Her Jumper sided with Morgan le Fay and was going to bring down Camelot. Using corruptive Perks he was able to sway all the Knights of the Roundtable, except Mordred who was always meant to be a hidden Weapon. Going against her indoctrination, Mordred sided with Artoria and died to keep Artoria safe before Gorr and Weiss arrived.
Artoria apologized to her son for whatever she suffered by her hands, before passing out. When the others came, they found Mordred desperately trying to keep Artoria alive.
NOTE: Artoria is reported as being in a coma but is expected to make a full recovery, All Black separated from her body.

3: Nirvana Yuga
Operative: Sun and Leone
Jumper Emergent: Arjuna
Chainbreaker: Sonic
Mission Succesrate unclear
Mission History:
Sun and Leone entered one of the strongest and most dangerous periods and locations of Fate history. Ancient india was full with war, bloodshed and demons but none would be as dangerous as an up and coming Godking. Already being in possession of the Grail, he held of on using it until he absorbed every deity of the Indian pantheon.
Something happened with the Hero named Arjuna that made him desire complete power by absorbing the abilities of other deities. By the time Sun and Leone realized what was happening deities fell one after another. This was when they were saved by the rampaging Arjuna by the resident Chainbreaker: Sonic the Hedgehog.
Having previously saved Karna from Arjuna, Sonic proposed working together and protect the Multiverse and its freedom from Arjunas rapidly growing obsessive and oppressive control. Seeing that this potential Jumper could cause more harm than good, Sun and Leone agreed on the one of a kind teamwork.
Using Sonics powers of Chaos Control, Speedster powers and demonic essence, Suns enlightenment, Leones items (among others Brahmastra, the Beasts Crown as well as Karrvacha and Kundala) and Karnas own return to snap Arjuna out of his ‘perfect’ mindset, the alliance managed to defeat Arjuna, free the divine spirits and give him a semblance of peace in death.
Sun and Leone retrieved the Grail and gave it to Karna so he may become a Jumper instead. The Hero of Charity instead gave it to Sonic when the Hedgehog politely asked.
NOTE: Although the world was saved and Sonic proved to be the most cooperative Chainbreaker by FAR, no Jumper managed to go on a chain and the Grail was lost. Sun and Leone themselves are unclear if they could call it a success or failure.

4: Land of Shadows
Operative: Slayer and Daisy
Jumper Emergent: Scathach
Chainbreaker: Guts
Mission Success
Mission History:
The Slayer and his Pet Rabbit turned Mobian turned daughter Daisy arrived in the Land of Shadows. They quickly managed to identify Scathach as the most likely person to qualify for a Chainbreaker target. And indeed Scathach had already gained the specialized Grail. Curious about its nature, when Daisy revealed its power, Scathach was intrigued and hoped to encounter worthy opponents during her own future chain, perhaps one who can give her a true fight to the death.
Upon being warned that a Chainbreaker would come for her, Scathach looked excited, opting to delay her Chainstarting event until she fought the Chainbreaker. Scathach also decided to train both the Slayer and Daisy in the meantime.
A few months later a man in black, wielding a sword more akin to a raw heap of iron, slaughtered hs way through the Land of Shadows. Scathach greeted him warmly and accepted his challenge of a duel. Slayer and Daisy stayed on the sidelines by her request.
Scathach and Guts were evenly matched throughout the entirety of the fight and battled for days with no break. However seemingly reacting to a potential defeat, Guts transformed. What was first expected to be the Berserker Armor soon turned out to be instead an Apostel transformation.
Guts Apostel Form
Upon being asked to explain what was happening, Guts angrily remarked that this was the result of his Jumper encounter. Desperate to defeat Griffith, his Jumper forcefully made Guts undergo Ascension into an Apostel that could kill the combined Godhand, using the souls of Casca, Puck, Isidro, Farnese, Serpico, Schierke, and many others.
While this transformation allowed Guts to kill the Godhand, it was impossible for the Jumper to retrieve the Souls again, leaving Guts eternally distant from those closest to him. He killed his Jumper himself as a final act of avenging his companions before being found by Gorr and Weiss.
Scathach, deeply saddened by what she was hearing, was reported to fight differently from there on, not allowing herself to be slain by a Monster and devoted to ending Guts misery. The following fight laster 12 hours before Guts went for the killing blow against a severely injured Scathach. At this point the Slayer entered the fight himself, duelling Guts for another 24 hours. Finally they managed to defeat Guts and calm him down enough for Daisy to make him a deal. If they can find a way to retrieve his companions from his soul and Apostel form, he would seize to be a chainbreaker.
The remainder of the Jump was spent trying to locate various gods and divinities, killing Monsters and experimenting with various Rune magics. Upon using Scathachs grail in a complicated ritual, Guts was fially reunited with at first casca and than the rest of his companions. Guts was last scene retiring in the peaceful Norse nature alongside his loved ones, parting with Slayer, Daisy and Scathach in mutual respect.
Scathach herself opted to, instead of becoming a Jumper herself, accompany Slayer and the person he followed as an additional companion.
According to Daisy, she is now referred to as her mother.
5: Land of the Rising Sun
Operative: Yorha
Jumper Emergent: Amakusa Shirou
Chainbreaker: Butcher
Mission Partial Success
Mission History:
The Androids of Yorha have over time become an even more elite group of soldiers than their creator ever thought they could be. Using their united purchases from Rising Sun, they furthermore improved their capability based on unity and teamwork. Each one is a mechanized ninja with physical capabilities of Greek machine heroes and an expert in the Ninja arts. Using a certain purchase they can summon a darkness the more of them are united and as long as one of them lives the others will eventually return due to their circumstances. Albeit they ended up in the sights of Youkai and among other things had to deal with aggressive insects and fearsome swallows.
The target was found quickly in Amakusa Shirou, in the middle of his rebellion against the tyrants wanting to wipe out his faith. After analysing the situation the three Yorha Units in charge, 2B, 9S and A2, decided to support Amakusa in his goals and prevented what was supposed to be their canonical end. Hearing of the Grail, first found by the Edo Shogunate, Amakusa wanted to use its power to create a ‘Land without Evil’ upon departing this world with his people. In an infiltraton A2 managed to get the Grail, but was surprised by the chainbreaker. This one was labelled as William ‘Billy’ Butcher. Fighting over it, the Grail was shattered as A2 retreated, now only possessing 4 out of 7 needed shards,
Plans were made to create a portion of the country where they could practice their faith without fear and to find the 4 remaining pieces again when the Chainbreaker attacked.
Butcher massacred his way through Amakusas army, even Yohra units unable to match him.
NOTE: 9S theorized that through some means Butcher has the effects of a Perk that allows you to ignore numerical disadvantage. Furthermore it is not known of the slaughter of Amakusas man was something ordered by Gorr as it would go against the Chainbreakers modus operandi.
Butcher confronted Amakusa directly, beating him within an inch of his life before the remaining Yorha units (now less than two dozen from their original 200) managed to evacuate him. From what was shared, Butcher was not content simply killing Amakusa but also wanted to break his faith, most likely because of his own experiences with Christianity and corrupt heroes.
Quotes among others included: “The only man in the sky… laughs at your suffering.”
Amakusa, still clinging to his faith, was deeply impacted by the massacre. It was only due to the support of 2B that he was able to move onward, hearing about Yorhas own story of eternal battle before they became companions.
Hunted by Butcher, the remaining Yorha hetched a plan. Implanting one of the Grail shards into Amakusa and the rest inside of them, they knew Butcher was keeping the rest on his person. Using Genjutsu, the trinity of leaders was able to trick Butcher into losing his Grailshards, their own upon defeat going to Amakusa who was able to use the complete Grail to go on his Jump. With the Bunkers systems, his dead man were able to come along as followers in empty android bodies.
Butcher was last seen trying to track down the last members of Yorha before he was called back, departing with visible rage and frustration.
6: Vive la France
Operative: Minako, Aigis
Jumper Emergent: Jeanne D’arc Alter
Chainbreaker: Cynthia
Mission Success
Mission History:
Minako and Aigis were recruited from Persona 3 together and have chosen to challenge Vive la France together as well. The former becoming a Saint and the later becoming a Knight, they soon discovered this variant of France to be much different. Jeanne D’arc, famously a merciful woman of god, was instead present in an altered state, commanding tamed dragons to strike down enemies of France violently. This seemed to have happened after Jeanne alter begged to be saved from the flames of her own execution and was barely saved by a dragon. She turned her wrath both on the people who wanted her dead and the enemies she already made.
Minako and Aigis were first to retrieve the Grail, trying to calm Jeanne Alter down and bring the saints well known mercy back.
At the same time the Pokemon Trainer Cynthia, with an army of Pokemon, showed up and challenged the Dragon Witchs rule.
As later conversations showed Cynthia became a chainbreaker after a Jumper tried to enslave the Pokemon race as a whole, abusing them and experimenting on any who were remaining. This cruelty enraged Cynthia who agreed to aid Gorr under the belief that Jumpers could not value any life but their own. Although the experiments ended up uplifting the human race, it was still deemed unacceptable by Cynthia to have the only remaining Pokemon that weren’t wiped out essentially left as Servitors or lobotomized weapons of war.
Wielding All Black enhanced Pokemon teams she managed to overpower Jeanne Alter, who once again begged to be saved and had Minako and Aigis respond to her call. The battle ended when Aigis took a lethal blow meant for Minako at the same time as Jeanne Alters first dragon suffered a fatal blow from Garchomps attacks.
Stunned by the sacrifice and even more so by Minakos and Jeanne Alters grief of loss, Cynthia stopped the fight and retrieved two Phoenix Downs to be used on the fallen. Although peaceful discussion afterwards were tense, Cynthia ultimately surrendered as long as Jeanne Alter would never ever abuse her dragons. Jeanne agreed and used the Grail to become a Jumper, departing to parts unknown as she believed this world no longer was meant for her.
Minako and Aigis offered to find a new World for Cynthia to go to. Cynthia agreed and cut her link from the Chainbreakers as long as her Pokemon could go with her.

7: Empires of Antiquity
Operative: Zero and Asriel
Jumper Emergent: Nero
Chainbreaker: Miguel
Mission Fail
Mission History:
Zero and Asriel arrived in The city of Rome during the reign of Nero. A figure of much controversy, this Nero was close to approaching a breaking point between either dying or becoming an individual known as Beast VI. Zero, who has in the past allowed Ultron to become a force for good, and Asriel, who has his own experiences regarding loss of morality and corruption, tried to bring her back from her madness as well as stop various atrocities that turned out because of Rome.
That was when they discovered their Chainbreaker, Miguel O’hara or also known as Spiderman 2099, who refused to let them alter the timeline and risk this entire world being ‘pruned’.
NOTE: When angrily asked by Asriel if he likes what he does, Miguel bluntly said he hates himself.
Both Zero and Asriel do not wish to discuss in depth what happened in Rome but consider the mission as a whole a complete and utter failure with Miguel retrieving the Grail himself and Nero dying alone and left with her madness and regrets.

8: God Save the Queen
Operative: Neo and Tecora
Jumper Emergent: ???
Chainbreaker: Weiss Schnee
Mission Fail
Mission History:
Tecora and Neo were among the strangest companions of Yangs group. Tecora, being a different personality of Yang altogether and Neo being an attempt by Adam to create the perfect Assassin to kill Yang so she could have Roman Torchwick back. After some early troubles with Neo and because of Tecoras immediate love towards the girl the two ended up becoming a surprisingly terrifying duo in combat.
NOTE: its theorized that the reason Tecora became so enarmored with Neo was because of Neo’s own status as someone with split personalities.
The duo became a terrifying pair of Pirates, Tecora surpassing even Francis Drake with what should be impossible being possible by her and Neo being even more lethal than Jack the Ripper could be. They went on various adventures before finally discovering the ‘Race for the Grail’. A treasure hunt for the Grail that the greatest pirates in the world sought to claim. While the belief was that it would merely grant wishes, Tecora and Neo knew this was the Grail they were seeking and that could start a chain.
After at first engaging in some fun bouts of combat, trying to gauge who was most worthy of being a Jumper, all racers arrived at the Island.
Than all of a sudden a violent blizzard froze the very ocean from shore to shore as the Chainbreaker of this mission made herself known. Weiss Schnee.
Using the moment of surprise she killed half the racers for the Grail. Tecora and Neo were overwhelmed with various summons.
NOTE: The summons Weiss unleashed were among other things the Remnant Brother Gods, DC’s Doomsday and various other individuals that are rumoured to be Jumpers she killed.
Tecora and Neo were unable to secure the Grail or rescue any of the other Pirates chasing for it. After conversing with Tecora, seeing her as a ‘violation’ embodying her friend Yang and seeing Neo as ‘tea pouring scum’ that outstayed her welcome, Weiss tried to kill her only to be barely stopped by the Rusted Knight and Chara, who had appeared in response to an emergency summon.
Weiss departed leaving Tecora and Neo with nothing but their life.
NOTE: This was the first time in the entirety of Yangs chain that Tecora suffered a loss.
NOTE: Neo does not know what Weiss meant with Tea pouring scum. It is possible that Weiss blames her for something she was going to do had Remnant not been invaded by Adam.

9: Strange New World
Operative: Ironwood and Chara
Jumper Emergent: Tesla/Edison
Chainbreaker: Syndrome
Mission Success
Mission History:
General James Ironwood and Chara arrived in perhaps the most modern variation of Fate.
NOTE: Thanks to using her purchases as a Strange Being Chara was able to appear at different points in other Fate Legends Operations, traveling through the various timelines it seems.
The unlikely duo consisting of an Eldritch powered child and the skilled general encountered Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison separately and were convinced of their nature as a chosen Jumper by Alaya. A Chainbreaker could not be found, instead the two trying to mediate between the geniuses.
It was than that the resident Chainbreaker, identified as the Incredibles Villains Syndrome, send out a message. Having kidnapped Helena Blavatsky, Tesla and Edison were supposed to journey to Nomanisanisland, located in the Pacific if they wanted to rescue her. The two geniuses in a rare display of unity departed, with Ironwood and Chara following closely, infiltrating the Island and workin against Syndrome in the background, wanting to discover his true goals.
As was later revealed, Syndrome had already managed to steal the Grail for himself and for an unknown project of the Chainbreakers wanted the trio of scientific or magical geniuses to study it for him, doing so in a series of challenging trials against his creations. Each one perfected his work more and more to the point the trio was faced with a Grail Powered Omnidroid.
The Omnidroid came close to killing all three geniuses until Chara managed to extract the Grail, Ironwood defeat it with skilled shots and Syndrome was forced to retreat, not before attempting to blow up the whole island with them.
Thanks to Helena and a strange disk they managed to escape with the Grail intact. The trio after some squabbling decided to go on a chain all together, Tesla and Edison locked in an eternal contest about whose inventions would benefit humanity across the Multiverse more and Helena resolving to discover the secrets of all magic and keeping an eye on them.

10: Oasis of Fantasy
Operative: Yang and Blake
Jumper Emergent: Gilgamesh
Chainbreaker: Issei Hyodou
Mission Success
Mission History:
Yang and Blake as the most seasoned fighters entered the most ancient time period with perhaps the most dangers. As the equals of Gilgamesh and Enkidu respectively (in Blakes case also receiving Perks to match the First Hassan) the two ventured the world trying to locate the Grail and gather intel. Over the course of which they ended up getting the attention of the Gods for better and for worse (particularly that of two certain goddesses).
Discovering one third of a broken Grail, the duo finally resolved to journey to Uruk. The Epic of Gilgamesh had been fully at play, Enkidu and Gilgamesh meeting and slowly transforming the King of Heroes into a wise ruler for his people.
When Yang and Blake arrived Uruk was locked in war with forces of the Chainbreaker in question, Issei Hyoudou. The Chainbreakers first fight with Gilgamesh, not believing humanities oldest bully to be worthy of going on a chain, ended with the splitting of the Grail into three parts. One now wielded by each group. This attack happened in response to Gilgamesh announcing he would take his kingdom on a chain but delaying doing so due to his arrogance. Furthermore, the first battle ended with Enkidu being mysteriously poisoned by All Black, left comatose to Gilgamesh’s grief.
The battle Uruk was facing was deemed as a matter the Gods would, due to some of Gilgameshs own affronts, stay neutral in. Ishtar in particular seemed amused to such a degree that she had not yet unleashed the Bull of Heaven.
Isseis army consisted of Offspring of the dormant laying Tiamat further enhanced with offsprings of All Black and obeying his orders. It is suspected he got this power through combining Boosted Gear with other OOC abilities.
Yang and Blake intervened in a direct battle, managing to separate Issei from All Black infection. Issei still continued to fight and merge back with the symbiote of his own will, proving that All Black was not corrupting their mental state.
Issei was still eventually overwhelmed and had to flee. Still locked in a stalemate in the war with the Red Dragon Emperor, while still wanting to resolve things in a peaceful way, the pair of Huntresses introduced themselves to Gilgamesh proper. With some experimentation, Enkidu was awoken by using the two shards of the Grail as a power source, though considerably weakened. Upon further reflection, it was decided to get the help of the so far neutral Gods. For that end Yang and Blake were send out by Gilgamesh to negotiate.
NOTE: During meetings with Ishtar it was stated the Goddess had already met Issei first before any of them and was insulted that he looked utterly unfazed by her beauty. This lack of a reaction to a beautiful woman was considered alarming by the Jumper and Companion.
Through carefully navigating the mess that was divine emotions, Yang and Blake were eventually able to convince Ishtar and Ereshkigal to side with Uruk, leading for rapid advancements in the war against Tiamats offspring from all sides.
It was at this point that Issei had on orders of Gorr awoken Tiamat herself, now corrupted with All Black. It appears that due to both Tiamats and Isseis desire to be loved they managed to connect as she lay dreaming.
NOTE: Issei insisted this to be a purely parent to son version of love and was offended when someone implied he was attracted to her.
Battling the Mother of Genesis, Yang forced a duel between herself and Issei as the rest were trying to delay Tiamat. After defeating him Yang demanded to know who he was doing all of this for. Upon Issei replying that he was doing it for his loved ones, Yang demanded to know when was the last time he even bothered to see them. The Huntress told him, that if he really was doing this for his loved ones, he would be with them now and they could have together tried to heal from what a Jumper had done to them.
Issei was silent upon that rebuttal, eventually showing a degree of self hatred for himself for not being strong enough and asking Yang if the Jumper had been correct, if he HAD been unworthy of Boosted Gear and his chances. Yang countered that worthiness only comes in response to who you are and what you do and urged him to truly read Tiamats mind and what she was truly thinking.
Upon discovering the depths of Tiamats grief and madness, not wanting another loved one to suffer, he agreed to help stop her as long as Yang could promise to save her.
In the concluding battle, Tiamat was freed from both All Black, having grown more violent and independent in contrast to the shard of Gorrs symbiote Issei was with, and her insanity. Yang and Blake promised to send them both to Isseis original world so that Tiamat could be free from her situation and Issei try to heal, as well as having their own group on speed dial if anyone ever WERE to threaten his home again.
Gilgamesh, for his part humbled by the experiences and having truly come into being a worthy King of Heroes, was still challenged to one final battle by Issei. Gilgamesh was afterwards given the final shard of Issei.
NOTE: Issei seems to have obtained something akin to Fay Eyes allowing him to see lies or deceptions. Realizing Gilgamesh truly wouldn’t become the kind of Jumper that hurt him, he decided to let him go.
With Issei and Tiamat departing and Gilgamesh taking Enkidu and Uruk with him on a chain, Yang and Blake left behind to oversee if any last Chainbreaker influence remained.
…This was when Weiss and Gorr themselves had appeared, having surveiled the various chainbreaker operations in every Jump and time period.
Overwhelming them with the element of surprise… Yang was lost in a dimensional vortex summoned by the Godbutcher, him and Weiss leaving Blake behind.
Final Mission Results
Chainbreakers Redeemed: Issei, Guts, Artoria, Cynthia (4/10 Jumps)
Jumpers starting their chain: Tesla, Edison, Helena, Artoria and Camelot, Gilgamesh and Uruk, Amakusa Shiro, Jeanne Alter (5/10 Jumps)
Potential Jumper casualties: the 7 Pirates (Full list in Appendix: God Save the Queen), Nero, Arjuna, Ivan (5/10 Jumps)
Holy Grails gained by the Chainbreakers: 3
Missing Allies: Yang
Finishing the last bit of the mission report, Blake closed her eyes, looking up at the stars outside of the Bunker.
“…Where did you take her?” Blake asked Weiss, wondering if her former friend would hear her.

2024.05.06 17:58 blaze92x45 Fictional currency idea

So I am working more on some of the day to day life for the various realms of my story. One of the things I was talking about with my friends/beta readers was currency for the story I'm writing.
So in the backstory for endimiya before humans there were just the elves who were broken up along racial and national lines ruled by various kingdoms that were often cruel and violent. Well eventually a powerful diety granted select young women to act as avatars/proxies for this God thus granting these elves magic. The first and most powerful of which was named Seidleif. Seidleif gathered an army around her over time and mastered her magical abilities even being able to infuse magic/ether into arrowheads to give them greater durability and armor penetrating properties. When she did this the arrow tip would turn blue and shined in the night. The warriors in Seidleif's army and supporters of her cause often would trade amongst each other these ether infused arrowheads acting as a defacto currency.
Post war when the realm was unified under Seidleif it was decided that these arrowheads would be a defacto accepted currency called Ethiryia. In the modern era these Ethiriya are made with smoothed rounded tipped triangles of ether infused metal, the center of these chips are hollow like you see in Asian coins as they would be counted by stacking them on lengths of wood to easily count the number of chips when making a larger purchase. In the modern era given how impractical carrying bags of metal are paper currency denoting value of Ethiryia are used instead.
Anyways hope everyone likes this idea and feel free to offer suggestions if you have any.

2024.05.06 10:00 AutoModerator Check Out Our FAQ: Netflix FAQ & Known Alterations - May, 2024

Welcome to our series of posts highlighting information and resources available within our subreddit. In this post, we introduce our FAQ and our KDRAMA 101, which contains some of the most commonly asked questions and other basic information about kdramas. This post will focus on a selection of questions about Netflix, check out our Netflix FAQ for even more information.
If you have any additional questions about the information in this post or our FAQ, feel free to leave a comment with your question/feedback.

What is Netflix K-Content?

Previously known as The Swoon, Netflix K-Content channel on Youtube is Netflix's official social media handle for Korean content on Netflix. Be it K-dramas, K-movies, K-variety or K-celebs that's where you want to go for official goodies from Netflix.
(It's also the only acceptable source of previews/teasers for Netflix productions.)
What is the difference between "Netflix Original" and "produced by Netflix”?
Netflix Original: Netflix will label any drama they have exclusive streaming rights to in a certain region as an Netflix Original in that region even if Netflix is only licensing the content and was not part of the production process.
Produced by Netflix: these are dramas that Netflix financed and produced (examples include Kingdom, Love Alarm, My Holo Love, Extracurricular).
Quick tip to distinguish between a licensed Netflix Original and Netflix production:
All episodes released on the same day worldwide = Netflix production
vs.
Episodes released weekly concurrent with its airing schedule in Korea OR the drama finished airing in Korea but is still unavailable on Netflix = a licensed Netflix Original
For more info, check out Netflix’s Help page on licensing and the article The Four Types of Netflix Originals.
Why isn’t [drama] available even though it’s airing in Korea?
We don’t know, we’re not Netflix. When (if ever) a drama comes to Netflix for any given region depends on the licensing agreement Netflix has. For more info, check out Netflix’s Help page on licensing
When is [drama] coming to Netflix for my region?
We don’t know, we’re not Netflix. Netflix tells you to keep browsing the New Arrivals page and looking out for its announcements via Press Releases.
How Good Are Netflix's Subtitles?
Not great: they often skip over nuances in the language.
Common example of subtitle inferiority include use of the name of a character throughout no matter what that character is being called in the dialogue. This can at times be a spoiler if the dialogue was being purposely vague.
Another very common complaint is that due Netflix subtitles often contain more cursing/profanity in comparison to what is actually being said in the Korean dialogue. This has been speculated to be attributed to Netflix's choices for localization of subtitles. So just be aware that cursing in kdramas, especially ones broadcast on any of the free to air channels (KBS, MBC, SBS) are relatively rare and mild.
Which Dramas Are Dubbed?
Based on user feedback, it seems that Netflix offers dubbing only on Netflix productions. See the Netflix help article on How to use subtitles, captions, or alternate audio to change your options.
What's with the music?
Background music in kdramas may be altered on streaming platforms in comparison to original broadcast due to copyright and licensing issues. Streaming sites will replace songs with generic choices if they do not have the correct licensing. In general, the songs being switched out are not original songs created solely for the drama, instead they are pre-existing songs.
Longer Answer
Note: The explanation below is a very simplified look at a very complex legal issue. Use it for reference, not authority.
In terms of licensing, each individual song can be thought of as having two sets of legal rights associated with it: publishing rights and recording rights. Publishing rights refers to the rights of the songwriter (or the publishing company that now hold the rights). Recording rights refer to the rights of that specific recording/performance (usually held by the recording company).
Example to illustrate the point:
Think of the Auld Lang Syne song.
The melody is an old Scottish folk song so no songwriter can claim publishing rights for it. People all around the world can use the melody without having to obtain its publishing rights. In fact, it was used as the tune of the SK national anthem for a few years.
Now imagine that some Singer X made a recording of a specific performance of the song Auld Lang Syne. This specific recording would have recording rights associated with it but no publishing rights associated with it.
If someone wanted to use this recording made by Singer X in a drama as part of the soundtrack, they would need to license the rights to use this particular recording (recording rights). They would not need to obtain publishing rights since no songwritepublishing company has those rights.
Now for kdramas:
The music used in kdramas can be one of three types:
  1. Previously existing songs,
  2. A specific recording of a previously existing song made just for the drama (such as a remake), or
  3. A new song written and recorded specifically for the kdrama.
Of these three types, only types 2 and 3 are included in the kdrama’s OST (original soundtrack) because they were originally created for the kdrama.
And of these three types, only type 3 songs are easily licensed for worldwide distribution because both the publishing and recording rights are recently created and generally bundled together with the drama licensing rights.
For type 2 songs, while recording rights may be relatively easy to obtain since the recording was made specifically for the drama, publishing rights may be hard to obtain, especially for worldwide distribution.
For type 1 songs, both publishing and recording rights have to be obtained, making it even harder. Especially if the song is an existing kpop hit song whose international distribution rights are already held by different companies in different regions.
Now why does Netflix often switch out songs:
Because the songs switched out are often pre-existing songs that Netflix cannot (or has chosen not to) obtain international licensing rights for. Keep in mind that Netflix is available in a lot of markets internationally so if they want to license a song, they have to license it for every single market in which this drama will be streamed in.
So if this drama will be streamed in 20 countries, then Netflix has to obtain song license rights in all 20 countries in order to use it, which can get really expensive really fast. For songs written and recorded specifically for dramas, licensing is feasible because the song rights are likely bundled with the drama streaming licensing rights, but is near impossible if the song is a pre-existing song with existing distribution deals in different markets.
A Hypothetical:
Fire by BTS was used as the intro song by a character in Fight My Way (쌈 마이웨이).
To stream the drama with this song in the USA, Mexico, Australia, Japan, and Brazil, Netflix must obtain the licensing rights for this song in all five countries. If Netflix cannot obtain the correct licensing rights for even one of these countries, then the easiest way to deal with the problem is to switch the song out for some generic tune that they do have the rights for.
For a big act like BTS that definitely has different distribution deals in different markets, getting the licensing rights is probably a big challenge (and expense) and likely not worth it from a business standpoint for Netflix. The result is background music being replaced with generic tunes.
And in case you were wondering, the music problem is not limited to kdrama content, see this Vox article explaining how music licensing rights are a huge headache for older shows now being released on streaming platforms.
Known Alterations to Kdramas on Netflix
We have a list compiled from feedback by our community about the type(s) of changes that were made to specific kdramas as they were broadcast on Netflix versus original SK broadcast. Subtitle issues are not included. This list is provided for reference and has not been verified in any manner. If you wish to add anything to the list, please leave a comment or send a modmail with the subject: Netflix FAQ.

2024.05.06 06:08 ProdigyX108 Tips / help on making a persuasive speech about Avatar

I really like this show so I prepared a short speech on why you should watch ATLA. So the speech is suppose to be 5-7 mins long and is should have an intro, body, and ending. I made my initial draft and revised it a couple times but I'm still super unsatisfied with the way it is. Hopefully I can get suggestions onin making it better because I only have a short timeframe for the speech. Also I'm not really good at public speaking and quite terrified. So here is what I made:
Introduction:
Imagine yourself immersed in a magical-like world where there are all sorts of animals combined together forming new, beautiful animals. This is an example. This is another example. Now imagine in the same world that you can control water, fire, earth, and air through the tips of your fingers. Well, in the world of Avatar that is possible. Good day, everyone. I am Francis Ian Fernandez, and today, I am thrilled to dive into the captivating world of Avatar: The Last Airbender with you.
I want to ask you guys if you have ever enrolled in a martial arts class. i think that a lot of us had enrolled at least once in a martial arts class such as Taekwondo when we were little. Did you know that the martial arts in Avatar: The Last Airbender were inspired by real-world techniques like Tai Chi and Kung Fu?
Now, I understand that animated shows may not be a genre for everyone. However, Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't just another animated show—it's a timeless masterpiece that transcends genres. Its universal themes of friendship, overcoming challenges, and self-discovery resonate with viewers of all backgrounds.
Over the next few minutes, we'll explore why Avatar: The Last Airbender is a must-watch series. We'll delve into its captivating world, its relatable characters, and its unique bending system that sets it apart from other shows in its genre. So, let's embark on this adventure together!
  1. The World of Avatar: A Captivating Journey
Picture a world torn apart by war—a world where nations clash and ancient powers stir. This is the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, where the Hundred Year War has ravaged the Four Nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Each nation boasts its own distinct culture and bending art, shaping a rich tapestry of history and lore.
But amidst the turmoil, there is hope. Enter Aang, the last Airbender, and the Avatar—the one destined to restore balance to the world. Joined by his loyal friends Katara, Sokka, and the conflicted Prince Zuko, Aang embarks on an epic journey filled with action-packed bending battles and heartwarming moments of humor and camaraderie.
  1. Relatable Characters and Timeless Themes
Throughout their journey, Aang and his companions face numerous challenges, each one testing their resolve and strengthening their bond. From Aang's struggle with his destiny to Katara's journey toward mastering waterbending, these characters undergo profound growth, teaching us valuable lessons about resilience and self-discovery.
At its core, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a story about friendship, loyalty, and the power of perseverance. Whether it's Aang and his friends standing united against the forces of darkness or Zuko's redemption arc, the series reminds us that no obstacle is insurmountable when we have the support of those we love.
  1. A World of Diversity: Bending Arts and Cultures
From the icy tundras of the Water Tribes to the sprawling landscapes of the Earth Kingdom, the world of Avatar is a melting pot of diverse cultures and traditions. Each nation brings its own unique customs and beliefs to the table, enriching the series with a sense of authenticity and depth.
But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this world is the art of bending—the ability to manipulate the elements. Whether it's the fluid movements of waterbending or the raw power of earthbending, each bending style is a testament to the skill and creativity of its practitioners.
And as you dive deeper into the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, you'll uncover a wealth of secrets waiting to be discovered. So why not take the plunge and see for yourself what makes this series so special?
  1. Conclusion
Today, we've explored the captivating world of Avatar: The Last Airbender—a world filled with rich lore, relatable characters, and timeless themes. From its epic battles to its heartfelt moments of camaraderie, this series has something for everyone to enjoy.
So, I encourage each and every one of you to experience the magic of Avatar: The Last Airbender for yourselves. Whether you're a seasoned fan or new to the world of animation, this series is sure to leave a lasting impression.
And remember, you can catch Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix, so there's no better time to start your journey than now.
As Uncle Iroh once said, "There is nothing impossible to the Avatar who can control all four elements." So why not join Aang and his friends on their quest to save the world? Thank you.
So I plan on binging the show again and would love to talk about the characters and world building a lot more but I don't know if it would fir the short time frame that I have. I'm open to suggestions and revisions.

2024.05.05 18:53 sighcantthinkofaname Thinking about how the park has changed over 10+ years

So this is just me reflecting on some things. I'm not sure anyone is actually gonna care lol, but it's on my mind. I went randomly with family as a kid, and I started going to the parks with my friend's dad's employee tickets in around 2012. In 2014 we bought annual passes, and I had mine until 2020 when everything shut down. Since then I've gone a few times with a friend's employee passes, and I just bought an annual pass again about three weeks ago.
I think some stuff has gotten better. The first thing to come to mind is the food. They have come out with so many better quick-service options, and it's way more enjoyable. I also love a lot of the new rides, the way the technology has been improving has been remarkable. In 2012 we were park hopping all the time, but as more stuff opened up it's felt easier and easier to spend a full day in each park (being able to drink helped too lol)
It feels way more crowded now than it use to. I love the Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom, for me it was originally something my friend and I stumbled upon randomly. You could basically just go in and sit down without a wait. Now it's become sort of a destination spot, I went recently and after an hour of being on the waitlist they took me into a brand new room. I was super surprised, and my waiter explained that demand has increased, so they're expanding. I'm glad they're expanding, because I do love it and have recommended it to people a bunch. I'm not surprised it's become more crowded. The new room was really beautiful, the waiter was great (as they always are), and it had that relaxed feel that I go to the Nomad Lounge to get.
Also with crowds, I went to Mickey's Not So Scary in 2013, 2014, and 2015. You could buy tickets for it in October, and it wouldn't be that expensive, and it wouldn't be sold out. I don't know when that shifted, but my understanding is you now have to buy it WAY in advance, that it sells out fast. Word got out I guess?
But generally speaking with crowds, I think they handle them wellish and many of the rides don't have significantly longer waits than they use to, in part because there's new stuff drawing in a lot of people. You just have to pay more attention and plan a little more. They need way more places to sit though, not enough benches.
The biggest changes have been Fastpasses. I've seen them go from the physical tickets, to picking three at a time, to this paid for option. For me personally, the Lightening Lane is the worst option. I don't use it because I don't want to pay money and wake up at 7:00 AM. But also, there use to be fewer online guides and tips for this stuff, so there was genuinely less of a demand for fastpasses. Like when they were paper, many people didn't even know they existed. So obviously that's going to be better for me, since I knew about them and had less competition for them.
I'd also say a major difference is that they've been coming out with more and more stuff to appeal to adults. Part of that is more Alcoholic options, part of that is some more refined merchandise. I think Disney has noticed the whole "Disney adult" trend and they're absolutely catering to it. I don't think this is a bad thing, there is still plenty of stuff catered towards kids too, it's just different.
Anyway that's most of it. There's some small details and some dumb stuff I miss, but I don't need to be writing this all day lol. The parks are still fun, I'm excited to see what new stuff they continue to come up with, and it's interesting to watch it grow and change.

2024.05.05 16:54 Savings_Coffee9393 Visa APPROVED!!!! Applied on February while being unemployed, Outside UK, (Standard)

Edit: The passport has been collected on 7th May at VFS global visa office in Bangladesh.
Alhamdiullah! I would like to share exciting news to fellow redditors (and folks eagerly awaiting the update and those looking to apply in the future) here. My spouse's application for a United Kingdom (UK) visa (vignette) has been successful!
Here is the TIMELINE below:
Standard application, applied outside UK from Bangladesh
Solicitor: YES (took almost 1 month to gather and prepare documents)
Application: 26th February
Bio: 11th March (14 days, 2 weeks)
Eco: 22nd April (42 days, 5-6 weeks)
Success email / decision letter informed by my solicitor: 5th May this morning around 7:30am (the letter dated on 2nd May - 13 days, 1-2 weeks)
TOTAL: Almost 10 weeks.
Additional Info: I submitted the application under combined savings and non-employment incomes as well as receiving a job offer in February 2024 and started my full-time employment in April 2024.
Therefore, I hired a solicitor to review those incomes & documents such as marriage certificate, messaging logs, wedding pictures, and write supporting letters on behalf of the people who know me well.
Note: Big thanks to the people who shared their timelines here because it helped with my anxious feeling while waiting for an update and keeping my hope high. Also, I rarely see any visa rejection in this subreddit so I was confident that my spouse visa would be granted, but the waiting time was the real pain!
Tips: I have been video-calling my spouse every night which has been keeping our long-distance relationship alive!
Good luck to those who are still waiting for the update.

2024.05.05 16:37 TheGeneralNappa My brother (19/m; New York) is sending inappropriate content to children from another country (14/15; United Kingdom). What can I do?

When I woke up this morning, I received three separate friend requests on Facebook from kids from the United Kingdom. They sent me message requests, all of the messages sent to me recalling how my brother, we’ll call him “K”, has been exposing himself to them on FaceTime, sending them nude photos, and also shoving markers and items into his less-than-a-year-old cat. I was not skeptical — my brother is absolutely fucked, so I didn’t necessarily doubt these accusations. And then the picture proof came flooding in…
Apparently, he’s also been threatening to kill and rape them if they told anybody, and there’s photo proof of text messages as well. He got awfully defensive and said he was “drunk”, not even denying the allegations whatsoever, and despite the fact that it’s apparently happened on multiple instances. Who can I contact to get this solved? Even having been a student of Criminal Justice, I’m a bit confused which agency to contact since this crime spans through two countries. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
Update: I have filed tips with both the FBI and the NCMEC; I received an email back from the NCMEC today, and they’ve said that the case has been directed to the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children task force. Thank you everybody for your words of encouragement, and especially your advice on who to contact! This has not been easy for me, but it had to be done. It’s in the proper agency’s hands now.

2024.05.05 11:16 KindaDumber Superhero Strategy and Management Game utilizing the JLU (Justice LEAGUE Unlimited) Universe

This is going to be my first post ever on reddit so if I get anything wrong or am doing something off please feel free to correct me.
Furthermore I'd like to state that I never had the time or resources to read the comics or watch every single Justice League Show so if I do get any lore, personalization or details wrong I am VERY open to discussion. I LOVE the JLU Series it's direct dopamine into my veins and talking about it, whenever I can, is one of my favorite things to do.
Lastly, the game in my head operates on the idea that somehow Warner Bros and DC will be fully amenable to let anyone just use their characters, settings, ideas, concepts etc. This game is never going to get made, but I'd still like to share my ideas so that, in the future, if anyone is re watching the JLU and get's the same itch as me, there's something to scratch it.
With that let's get to the meat of these potatoes
THE BASIC IDEA Xcom but with the Justice League
THE NOT-SO BASIC IDEA The game takes place a few months after the last episode of the Justice League Unlimited series. The Player Character (PC) plays as J'on J'onzz or Mr. Terrific (or maybe even themselves?) and is tasked with directing and formulating teams of heroes to attend to the many problems on Earth, and the nearby universe. Though it's not that easy, each hero has their own personalities that clash, benefits and weaknesses to being assigned to each unique mission, etc. Furthermore, once a team is sent to a mission, the game goes from team management to turn-based strategy as the PC has to direct the heroes on how they act and fight.
With that there are two aspects to the game. Firstly where the PC has to pick and choose which heroes go where and for what, and second the PC dictates the moves of the heroes they chose during the mission. I'll refer to these two aspects as Watchtower Management, and Field Management.
WATCHTOWER MANAGEMENT As cool as it would be to simply send Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman on every mission, you're a strategist, and you should know that brute forcing every mission or problem like that isn;t the most efficient way to do things. You should understand the strengths and weaknesses of each hero and assign them to the missions appropriate to them. A nuclear meltdown might appreciate heroes like Captain Atom or the Flash more than the Big three. Furthermore, heroes (even the founding members) get into their little spats along the way due to their personalities clashing, and continually forcing them together on missions would greatly hinder their effectiveness (no matter how good they are), or even lead to heroes resigning from the league. Thus it is your responsibility to ensure that you've got a good balance between a positive work environment and an effective task force. I mean, with funding from Wayne indutries you don't need to worry about money, resources and man power. So just focus on your best resource, your heroes.
Each Hero has 5 traits that help define them, each trait has their own number of categories to help differentiate heroes from one another, The traits are as follows:
Origin (Where or how the hero got their powers, Magic, Technology, or Enhancement) Residence (The specific piece of Earth, or the Universe, that the hero defends, Metropolis, OA, Star city, etc.) Loyalty (Basically who or what the Hero will fight for when it comes down to it, Country, Humanity, Self-Preservation, Law, or the Universe) Ideal (The ultimate goal, aside from common good, of the hero, Strength, Skill, Magic, Science, Society, or Revenge) Nature (How the hero acts, most of the time, Peaceful, Headstrong, Deductive or Charismatic)
With that each hero is a mix of one of the categories of all five traits. Take Vigilante, he'd look a little something like this: Origin: Enhanced Residence: America Loyalty: Country Ideal: Skill Nature: Charismatic
Now what are all these categories even for?
Well they indicate to you as a strategist how any specific hero is going to interact with any other hero or with any specific mission. To illustrate this let's continue using Vigilante as an example.
Let's say two mobs are at war somewhere in America. Vigilante would be a good choice for a hero to send, given that he's fighting people who utilize the same tools as him (in that they are "Enhanced" not aided by supremely advanced technology or magic, just guns and fists) and the area and it's customs would be familliar to him (Since his residence is America)
Huntress might be a good option to send with him given she's also an Enhanced Hero from America, but they would have conflicting loyalties, Huntress is Self-Preserving which Vigilante, a Patriot, would likely not appreciate, making them both less effective in tandem than they would be individually, if they were to be sent together. On the other hand, they both value skill, thus if the mission would push them to the limits of their marksman capabilites having two heroes with ideals in skill would be highly favorable as it would be hitting two birds with one mission, weighing between these choices is one of your tasks as a player.
Even on individually heroes matter, being charismatic Vigilante might persuade the mob bosses to resort to charming the mob bosses instead of facing the mafias head on (like supergirl, a headstrong hero, would do). Direct autonomy on the choices and actions heroes take in missions will be "further discussed" in the "Field Management" Segment of this post but in general, having heroes of specific natures, ideals, etc. makes it more likely for options and choices that reflect those traits to appear throughout the course of the game.
Again, I'd like to reiterate here that I am by NO MEANS an expert on the lore of the franchise or its heroes for that matter, thus if you feel like I get any traits or characterizations wrong feel free to correct me, but nicely, please.
Furthermore, you also have to take care to actually read the information given to you about missions (think the level/lore descriptions that show up before each level in Kingdom Rush), as not all of them can be directly solved through combat, for that matter just because a mission is combat oriented doesn't mean that any combat-focused hero should be sent there. Like an invasion on an extra terrestrial mine, you might be tempted to just send Superman and Supergirl and be done with it, but a careful parsing through the information shows that the miners were using kyrptonite tipped weapons, thus sending our supers there would make the mission much harder to complete efficiently.
Additionally, even if you do find a "Swiss Army Knife Hero" that fits most situations you can't send them out too frequently. Every time a hero completes a mission, they get an increase in fame, which could help out in diplomacy missions, but in general the more fame a hero builds the more villains know about them, and the more villains know about them, the better they can prepare to face them.
If all that seems too complex to remember or analyze, recall that you're playing as a strategist, and staying on top of these things would be your job. Though there are some rule of thumb "hurr durr" mechanics so more casual players can still accomplish pseudo efficient Watchtower Management. Generally heroes should face missions of similar origins to them, Zatanna (A magical Hero) should deal with Magical threats (she gets a bonus or something, IDK the specific boosts or detriments any hero gets are still up in the air so feel free to comment). Also, heroes who fight in their area of residence get boosts too.
In general, Watchtower management is about understanding and analyzing what a mission needs and providing the appropriate hero who can supply that.
FIELD MANAGEMENT(Still very loose with what to do here but I have a basic idea IG)
Now once you've sent your team off to wherever, the game focuses in on the select roster you chose. Now this can go about a few ways based on the nature of the mission. Diplomacy missions play out almost like a visual novel or Ace Attorney where you're given a few dialogue boxes to choose from to try and converse to others in a way that benefits you. Having more heroes of a specific Ideal or Nature, etc, boost the chances of dialogue boxes related to those traits appearing. Vigilante on your roster creates a higher chance of "charming" dialogue boxes popping up allowing you to charm a minion to blurt out their master's scheme, or charm a guard to let you into the venue. However you aren't locked onto using that choice as there will always be a neutral positive and negative option given to you so you can always command heroes to say yes or no to what is offered to them.
Alternatively missions could be rescue or combat based which I haven't ironed out much. It's likley to play out like XCOM or fire emblem in that you command heroes to travel across grids per turn to do things and accomplish goals. However I do know that I want all heroes that share an origin to have a unified basic movement and attack based on that origin and a unique advanced movement and/or attach based on them.
OTHER THINGS
Aside from combat and stuff i also haven't ironed out how heroes are going to level up or even if they should? like they're heroes for a reason so starting them off really weak and stuff would be weird? also acquiring them, do you just have a humungous roster of heroes to pick from the start, or do you gain more as you go on? If so why were those heroes not in the or affiliated to the JL in the first place? Lastly I do know that I want to implement a "Leader" system based on that episode where Hawk Girl, Vixen and Vigilante get ambushed by Thanagarians, but IDK how a Leader would work/operate in a game like this. Also STATS should I or shouldn't I, how would they work? etc IDK.
CONCLUSION That ends my idea so far, if you have any comments suggestions or clarifications feel free to ask them, also if anyone is up to use this idea, go for it, though I would LOVE to help out in any way you'd allow me to.
If you made it this far thanks for reading and I hope you got something from this, have a great day!

2024.05.05 04:09 ExodusArias Just got this game. Any advice/tips/tricks/mod suggestions for a new player?

I just got the Royal Edition on sale for ÂŁ6. I remember the memes, bugs and general hilarity from the launch of this game in 2018. One of the reasons why I never got it myself. After seeing the trailer for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 I decided to give it a try and oh my god, it's like a Medieval realistic version of The Witcher 3. I absolutely love the immersion, world building, historically accurate lore, the characters and feel of the game. I got instantly hooked. Currently doing a Honorable Knight Henry playthrough but who's not afraid to get his hands dirty.
Are there any tips or mod suggestions the veteran players have for me?
So far I have these mods installed:
A_Sorted_Inventory
1.18 Archerymod
Bushes.Only Collision.Remover
Easy_Sharpening
EasyToSeeHerbs
Instant_Herb_Picking
No_Helmet_Vision
NoAimSpread
RicherMerchants20k
slp
StayCleanLongerGetDirtyGradually
Unlimited Weight
UnlimitedSavingNS
I've looked through a few videos and articles. I am not trying to spoil myself on the experience and story. The only things I know are that you can play this game anyway you want. I am not doing any exploits or grinding levels in Skalitz to become a God, as I feel that takes away from the challenge of the game. Even though I am using an Archery Crosshair mod. I've never played a game without a crosshair for ranged weapons. Felt odd. I am currently at "Awakening" for the main quest. I've heard there's certain quests that are time limited? I presume I should look up the wiki for that. Also one question about the combat. Can you do a feint for combos? Like can you weave a feint in for every combo chain or is that not possible?
Are the texture streaming optimization and the Performance mods still worth using even in Royal Edition? They seem to be either outdated or require a lot of tinkering. I am already running this game at relatively stable 60fps in most places at High Graphics except for shadows at 2K Resolution on my Nvidia 1070.

Chapter 235: Honest Work
I blinked as colour returned to my eyes.
Corn.
I was surrounded by corn.
Everywhere I looked, I was threatened by a commoner’s breakfast, lunch and dinner growing to my waist. The yellow corn stuck out between broad leaves, eerily still to a breeze which didn’t exist.
Nothing did. Because this assuredly wasn’t real.
Gone was the tea table stacked with a house of cards in the midst of falling. Gone was a farmstead filled with peeling rooftops. Gone was a baroness smiling in quiet anticipation. Gone was the moon and all the stars.
Instead … there was a pale sky shorn of a sun, casting light from behind clouds I could not see.
I held out my hand, flicking the edge of a leaf. It didn’t toil from my touch. It merely turned into a swirl of faded green, twisting like oil upon liquid, before finding its shape once more.
I blinked again, hoping to see a new scene.
My wish went unanswered. And so I was given this. A fully grown field to take the place of the barren soil which had made up the baroness’s farmstead. But this wasn’t the past I’d entered. It was something else entirely.
Because beyond the fields of corn, there was only white.
A mist as solid as a chalk cliff. A white ocean engulfing an island of crops. Or the illusion of crops.
There was no life to it. No aroma. No soft soil beneath my boots. It was sterile and without detail. Like a distant memory on the fringes of being forgotten. There were no lesions in the leaves, nor caterpillars to cause them. There were no burrows in the soil, nor quailing badgers within as they waited for me to pass.
As I strolled a few steps without direction, no rustling was left in my wake. The crops failed to brush against my legs, instead melting like waxwork before once again pieced together. A field of homogenous green, speckled with hints of dim yellow.
The only exception was a blot of red in the distance.
A single barn, bright as an apple.
I took in a deep breath, tasting nothing of my countryside or what had replaced it.
Very well.
This was strange.
Not the kind of strange which troll merchants brought to the Royal Villa. But actually strange. The kind of strange I only experienced after sleeping beneath the creaking ceiling of a common inn one too many times, and suddenly the next dream was about a palace of floating candy floss and marshmallow knights while I was being serenaded by a choir of tap dancing ducks.
“Boo!~”
“Hiiieee?!?!?”
But no matter how strange my reality became, I could be comforted in the knowledge that I didn’t need to face it alone … just after I’d finished being exasperated as well.
“Coppelia! What have I told you about committing treason?!”
My semi-loyal handmaiden beamed, leaning this way and that as she sought the finest angle to be amused at my expense.
Still with her scythe at the ready, she held it against her shoulder.
Black clouds wriggled against its moonlit blade, ethereal and unexplainable. And yet I knew dark wisps held more substance than whatever unwanted place we’d now found ourselves in.
“Ahahaha~ sorry, sorry. I couldn’t resist.”
“You shall resist! The next time we find ourselves wandering a bizarre landscape, I expect you to immediately see to whatever impractical demands I have at the present!”
She giggled as her response. I generously took that as a yes.
“Neat, huh?” she said, mimicking my earlier action with a flick of a leaf. It collapsed into a swirl of green, before reforming once again. “Definitely don’t experience these very often. And I’ve been to all sorts of weird places. This is in the top five … no, top ten. It might go into the top five.”
“Depending on what, dare I ask?”
“Depending on if something tries to eat us or not.”
I groaned.
“Please no. To meet my end in a field of corn would be to die several times over. Even if my body perishes, my soul would continue to be tormented. Do you have any notion of where we are?”
“What if I told you we’ve been sucked into a shiny bauble, and now we’re stuck on top of a Yule tree?”
I gasped in horror.
That … That was awful! Baubles could hang anywhere … except the top! If I was to become a seasonal decoration, then I’d be the angel at the top! No exceptions!
“Please tell me you jest.”
“Ahaha~ I am, don’t worry … probably.”
“Probably?!”
“I mean, I wasn’t kidding when I said these aren’t experienced very often. Because I’ll be honest, I don’t really know what this is. Well, other than some super powerful spell. You heard it too, right? That guy went all big when he spoke. That’s automatically in the deep end of the forbidden magic pool, and no lifeguards are paid enough to go there. Whatever that guy was drinking, it must be amazing.”
I quietly groaned.
Come the 4th glass of wine, everyone thought they had what it took to exhibit ultimate power. But this drunkard went beyond that. Was this the effects of skipping the glass and going straight to the bottle? Did magical power suddenly accumulate through sheer drunken force of will?
… If so, no wonder the halls of adventurers were always so slovenly! They weren’t merely drinking themselves into an early grave! They were legitimately seeking the road to ultimate power!
“So the baroness managed to hire herself a drunkard whose abilities are apparently complemented by his state of inebriation.”
Coppelia nodded, her smile hardening.
“He must have been really drunk, then. Because that guy–is super strong.”
“Is he? I’m hardly experienced in assessing individual power, but he hardly struck me as noteworthy. Other than the strength of his kidneys, of course.”
“I mean, I thought the same. When I first saw him, he was just Random Human #250519E to me.”
“... Coppelia, please don’t tell me you assigned something like that for me too.”
“Oh, don’t worry. You were special from the start. You got Crazy Girl #2.”
My mouth fell open in horror.
“Who … Who is #1?!”
“I passed by this cultist in Lissoine. She was setting up a trout as a god. Made an altar with a fish bowl and everything. I almost joined for the introductory bonus. She was nice. But definitely bonkers. I still have the leaflet. Wanna take a look?”
Coppelia tapped the pouch by her waist.
I pursed my lips … and decided this stranger could keep the #1 spot.
“But yeah,” she continued, flicking another leaf for fun. “That was only at the start. The moment that guy began to do something other than drowning his sorrows, he stopped being Random Human #250519E and went straight into the bucket list of things to chop in half instead. I could feel the magic he was giving off. And let me tell you, it was super forbidden.”
I didn’t have the strength to look exasperated.
Of course it was forbidden. Why be a mage if not to regularly break all sense of magical taboo? It’s not like it was their kingdom they were throwing fields of corn at.
“Wonderful. A mage with his own aura of power. Because they’re always the most reasonable.”
“I mean, that’s the thing. I don’t think he’s actually a mage.”
“No? But he did the … finger point thing.”
“Mmh~ that’s important. But he was also using 0% real mana juice. Magic comes from blood. That’s why it’s easy to detect. It’s always swirling around. But I didn’t get that from him at all. When he started his spell, he was drawing his power from somewhere else. Somewhere which reeeeaally didn’t want to be touched. I thought we were going to explode.”
I was glad we didn’t. Not only because that’d look awful. But because every explosion avoided was a triumph against the odds.
The next victory would come when we left this … whatever this was.
I frowned as I turned in all directions.
Corn as far as the eyes could see. A truly inhospitable climate. I’d survive longer in a desert.
“Very well … are we in some kind of illusion, then? A magical maze like a minotaur’s labyrinth? Or have we been teleported somewhere else entirely?”
“Nah, illusions make your eyes go all swirly. And teleportation always comes with someone falling over if they’re not used to it. Did you fall over?”
“No.”
“There you go, then.” Coppelia looked around herself, before humming in thought. “If I had to guess, it’s probably closer to the shiny bauble theory.”
I shook my head, refusing to accept the possibility.
If I was ever absorbed into a bauble, it’d be one filled to the brim with strawberry shortcakes. Nothing else was capable of defeating my highly astute mind.
“This is far too dull for any bauble. But no matter. How do you suggest we exit?”
“Eh, I guess we can try the normal way.”
Without further ado, Coppelia hoisted up her scythe.
After all, if it wasn’t something she could kick, it was something she could cut in half. Usually.
“[Coppelia Throw]!”
With an inquisitive smile, she simply launched her scythe into the thick mist, shredding the tips of a field of corn as she went. A technique I fully expected her to teach my peasants as well.
It swept into the mist … and then vanished, failing to return.
I turned to Coppelia.
“Did you learn anything?”
“Yep. I definitely need my own sword of heroism.”
“Excuse me?”
“A sword of heroism. The ones we give to our official heroes are really good at stuff like this.”
“Being thrown into the distance?”
“Mmh~ but also cutting down unexplained magical barriers. It really annoys the bad guys who spend ages on them. Most of them don’t even bother anymore and just let the heroes walk in. Or if there are barriers, then they’re basically just for show. This one’s real, though.”
I nodded. Excellent news.
We weren’t in Ouzelia.
That was the worst case scenario averted.
“Very well, then … and will you go retrieve your scythe now?”
“Nah. It’s gone.”
I offered a look of grievance on her weapon’s behalf.
That scythe only came out when it was fashionable to do so. To be lost after being casually lobbed into nowhere was far too demeaning a way to go.
“Ahaha~ don’t worry. My scythe and I have a special understanding. Even if it’s lost in some mysterious outer plane with no exit, it’ll come back on its own.”
I gave a short sigh, then turned towards where the only source of irregularity existed.
A red barn in the distance, more ominous than any stock dark tower from a brochure. A place where a door could be found, one way or another.
“Then we’ll make your scythe’s journey easier. I refuse to be permanently trapped anywhere that’s not my bedroom. And not without also ensuring it was stocked with all the bestsellers only I apparently haven’t bribed couriers to fetch yet.”
My loyal handmaiden’s smile twitched.
Indeed, as an assistant librarian, she must know full well the pains of paying for couriers. I dared not consider how much she had to pay without the generous princess discount I received.
With little else for us here, we made our way towards the barn, strolling through bundles of crops as if wading through a puddle without weight.
As we walked, I became conscious of the lack of resistance beneath my steps. It was no floating palace of candy floss, but it was the closest thing. A waltz through the clouds.
And one I intended to bring crashing back down to the wondrous ground of my kingdom.
Eventually, the barn and all that was beside it neared. The details were clearer here. Splotches and blemishes in the red paintwork. Chips in the wood. A fracture in the wheel of a cart. Grass stubbornly clinging to a small patch of soil, even as it was being worked.
Shook. Shook. Shook.
Again and again, a pitchfork dug into the ground with practised movement.
And the one to hold it was a drunkard in a dirtied waistcoat and a tweed cap
Unbothered by his guests, he tended to his little stretch of dirt. A bead of sweat ran down his cheeks. And for a moment, I saw the drunken expression replaced with something close to a smile.
Suddenly, a feeling of unease gripped my heart.
A discomfort I was keenly familiar with. And one which only grew as he lifted his pitchfork from the soil, using it to instead scoop up a bundle of corn leaves in a single, elegant movement. He dumped them into the nearby cart, forming a tidy heap.
A single movement which spoke more about himself than any introduction could have.
And if that wasn’t enough–
There was his smile, almost as lazy as his drawl.
“Still satisfying,” he said, nodding towards the heap. “Glad the feeling never changes.”
I gasped, unable to recoil away fast enough.
Why, the way he tended to these crops with monotonous repetition … the way he spoke, his words slowed by more than the wine upon his breath …
This … This was no mere drunkard.
And this was certainly no mage.
No … this was an adversary more deadly than any I’d ever faced before. A foe known only to me in my deepest nightmares, spun by the bedtime stories told to all princesses.
This man … was a farmer.
Stopping in his work, he wiped his brows, then offered his pitchfork out to me.
“Want to have a go?”
I covered my mouth in horror.
Soil and corn fell from the dull prongs. A blotch of sweat covered the wooden shaft.
A moment later–
Coppelia held me as I collapsed.

2024.05.04 23:32 sky-builder How figma made $1 billion from this deal

Hello, Idris here!. This week I want to share a summarised version of the product lessons we can learn from Figma
[You can find the full case study here](https://open.substack.com/pub/indieniche/p/20-billion-figma-acqusition-fallout?r=3q3p07&utm\_campaign=post&utm\_medium=web)
Figma, conceived by Dylan, stands out as a collaborative cloud-based web application tailored for designing user interfaces. It made waves when it announced its $20B merger with Adobe in September 2022. However, this union was short-lived, lasting only 15 months, as regulatory concerns in the EU and the United Kingdom prompted its abandonment.
Here are some key takeaways that can enhance your product development journey...

Software is eating the world

You heard it correctly: software is truly revolutionising our world. I first encountered this concept from Gary Tan of YC, and it still astonishes me. Witnessing a small startup and its tool, created just 5-6 years ago from the ground up, surpass established leaders like InVision and Sketch, and even challenge industry behemoths like Adobe, is remarkable.

Revenue matters a lot

In the article, Dylan revealed that Figma had amassed a staggering $600 million in revenue, along with an additional $1 billion windfall from the fallout with Adobe – an astonishing sum indeed! 😮. Figma's billing strategy has become quite intense lately; even users on the free plan find themselves nudged towards upgrading. Initially, they adopted a strategy of offering low prices to attract a large user base and gather feedback.

It’s okay to start with small pricing

From the outset, pricing served as a pivotal differentiator for Figma, setting it apart from competing tools and establishing a foundation of trust. Their affordability from the beginning fostered a strong bond with the community and solidified their reputation. By offering accessible pricing, Figma effectively lowered the barrier to entry for aspiring and novice designers.

Be innovative and conquer

A standout feature that set Figma apart was its cloud collaboration functionality accessible directly from the browser. This meant you could access Figma from anywhere in the world without relying on your personal laptop, which was a game-changer for me. Unlike Adobe, Sketch, and InVision, who struggled to achieve this for a considerable time. This capability served as a crucial differentiator, emphasising the importance of identifying and leveraging unique strengths when building a product.

M&A deals all the way

With a substantial reserve of funds, Figma has been strategically acquiring products to enhance their workflows and processes, aiming to complete the value chain of software development from gaining buy-in to shipping and measuring. Their implementation of AI into their product began after acquiring Diagram, a small company founded by Jordan Singer, which utilised GPT-3 to generate design ideas with minimal input.

Communication is key always

You need to always communicate with your team and make them aligned about what’s happening always, Dylan Field prioritised transparency with figma employees, stakeholders, and the design community. By keeping lines of communication open and honest, Figma fostered trust and unity, strengthening its position in the market.

Learning from Setbacks

Field viewed the failed sale of the fallout as a valuable learning experience. He emphasized the importance of resilience in the face of adversity and the need to embrace failure as a catalyst for growth. By analysing the reasons behind the setback and learning from their mistakes, He characterised this as keeping your foot on the gas always at any point in time.

2024.05.04 17:16 mrhoopers We failed to Epcot...twice...(including a Space 220 bonus review)

TL;Dr: we made booking mistakes with LL (sells out FAST! Like minutes after 7am) unlike other parks where you can pick them up later. We also had bad food at 220. It seems good food can be had but our experience wasn’t good. Ymmv
Edit: It seems that ILL is only available on Guardians. It also seems LL is available for others but you have to get them early.
Disclaimer: As in all things: These are our OPINIONS. They may not match yours. I'm not saying Epcot stinks. I'm sharing OUR experience with the park so that others will learn from our mistakes.
We're both huge Disney apologists. But even our rose colored, sentimental, glasses, couldn't save us this trip.
Goals: We went looking to enjoy a few rides then to eat and drink in the World Showcase. This isn't unreasonable for Epcot and it's a day we've enjoyed before. We have done this.
Last week: 2 adults (50+), no children. Staying at the Contemporary. Go to Disney every 5 years. Last trip was 2018 so this was 5.5 years between trips. We had a very abbreviated trip last summer that did allow us to get Guardians so we weren't deeply committed to making it happen, however I really wanted to go again.
Got Genie+ well before 7am and at 7am caught a boarding group 69 (heh.) Which looked, eventually, to be about 3:30p. No worries, plenty to do at Epcot. I was honestly looking forward to some great people watching, drinks and foods between rides. Leisurely. There was a cool breeze and it wasn't overcrowded. Perfect day! Monorailed over from the Contemporary. No issues.
So we got there at early entry rope drop and headed to Frozen. An hour wait. But no worry because we have all day, we'll catch a Lightening Lane or Individual Lightening Lane later. (Which was working splendidly at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios so we had no reason to doubt it would be different at Epcot.)
We checked on Test Track. Closed until 12:45p. Okay, no worries. LL it and peek at Spaceship Earth. Down. Not a worry, found our way to Soarin' and enjoyed a great ride in a great seat!
Since we were waiting on Test Track we grabbed breakfast (because we weren't ready for Epcot eats at 9:30am) outside of Soarin' checked in on Frozen and Ratatouille. Both were now over 1 hour standby only. Huh? Well, we'll finish breakfast and loop by Spaceship Earth then do the world showcase.
Spaceship Earth is down.
No matter, world showcase. We'd just finished breakfast and had thought we'd catch snacks more around lunch but we were a good 2 to 3 hours ahead of that as we had such a tough time with rides. Finished our loop around noon. Test Track was still not open so we suspected our LL would get cancelled. Frozen and Ratatouille were still in standby rider only and Spaceship Earth was still down. We're not ones for shows and we've seen the Land and Seas several times. We did pick up the Three Caballeros boat ride. That was nice.
Eventually, we dumped the GotG Virtual Queue and we left. I was more than a little disappointed but standing around Epcot for 3 hours for one ride or waiting in queues would really put us in a sour mood. Some people don't mind it but we've found that waiting too long in a queue makes it difficult for us to enjoy the ride, that's why we LL and ILL. That's an us thing. If it doesn't bother you then you would have had a better time than we did.
Walked through Moana. Very nice. Well themed. Neat idea. It's not our new favorite thing. I don't think we're the target audience so I can't say if it's good or bad. It'll be magical for someone for sure.
Flash forward a few days.
We had reservations to Space 220.
Now, everyone (not literally but for the most part) on this sub will tell you to only do the Lounge and to skip the restaurant. They're right, but let me tell you why. First, the restaurant doesn't participate in the dining plan. I mean, okay (no surprise), but annoying. If you don't dining plan this doesn't matter to you. So we get to our table and it's really a very cool vibe. Turns out, it's prix fixe and for two people and one alcoholic drink, it ended up at $230 with tip. Just to set expectations. You can't just get apps and drinks in the restaurant, only the prix fixe. I should have checked but no worries we were hungry anyway.
We each had a beet salad that, while a little heavy on the goat cheese, was tasty and light. Our server, who was very kind, came by to see how we were doing (well after we'd finished the course). To be fair, he was overloaded with tables so we don't blame him and we're not needy so it wasn't a problem for us.
He had recommended the fillet mignon as it was popular. Given the menu, that seemed wise. It was the right temperature but it was very clear that it was previously cooked and reheated. It was gray (I'm not exaggerating, the outside was gray...it wasn't the lighting) with a few brown lines from the "grill" and had that leftover, reheated, steak taste. It was spongey. So I suspect it was sous vide at some point but for so long it went into the bad place. Those that have sous vided something for too long know the texture well. Also, my steak was small and thick. Hers was thin and broad. This is indicative of using lower quality protein. You sometimes can rescue a cut with a longer sous vide. That didn't happen here.
When the meal came out it desperately needed seasoning (it literally had none). Salt specifically. None on the table or any table and our server was nowhere to be seen. So we choked down the gray, sponge meat, gluey potatoes and bland, steamed, veggies (8 green beans and 2 carrots...no, I'm not joking.) No butter detectable. Just steamed and put on the plate.
When our server returned we'd been done and were staring out the window (at nothing because we were to the far right where the occasional space man floated by but otherwise it was a reflection of the bar.)
He supposed he should bring us dessert so we thanked him and agreed. (Yes, we were pleasant because he'd just been given yet another six top with kids on top of everything else he was doing. He had too much going on. They were under staffed.)
The dessert was some kind of vanilla and mango thing that looked pretty but really belonged on a cafeteria line and not an expensive restaurant. I don't know what expensive is to you but to us $230 is an expensive meal. And I get that it's a theme park in a new, highly themed, restaurant. There's a premium. But this was beyond even that.
We tipped our server well. He was polite and did his job as quickly as he could given his constraints. We can't hold him accountable for a food product that was abject. He didn't make it, select the preparation, plan the menu. It wasn't his fault. He also was hustling so it wasn't that he was lazy. He played the best hand that could be played with the cards that were given. The food we had was bad. It just was. Until we read that 220 has a completely revamped menu we won't be going back.
We attempted to get on some rides while we were there the second time but it was the same story. No LL or ILL, Test Track was just broken down. We did get on Spaceship Earth but it froze half way through and isn't really a pleasant experience for us any more. If you're going the first time, maybe you'll enjoy it more than we do. We won't be going again, unfortunately.
Our mistakes:
  1. For Space 220, the lounge is reportedly the best option for apps and drinks. Do NOT venture into the restaurant. It is massively expensive for what you get and not worth it. Listen to the people in this sub. They're all correct.
  2. You can't LL or ILL Frozen or Ratatouille (from what we could see). Expect at least an hour wait for each one.
  3. We should have been watching Epcot on the app more closely so we could plan better. That's on us. Tip: Watch parks in the app in advance of going to them so you can get the vibe. We were too busy doing the parks to do that.
  4. We were about 80% sure we wouldn't get Test Track IF it was running. Still, we hoped. So we were disappointed but not surprised.
  5. Don't eat ANYTHING before doing world showcase. That's the star of the show. Eat your hearts out there. If that's why you're going, you'll have a ball.
Honestly, we were incredibly disappointed across the board. We couldn't get on rides or enjoy the food/drink (which was our fault but was a result of disrupted intent.)
The upside?
As usual, the cast members were amazing, and polite.
