đżđ·đ Announcing: The Dionysian Mythology Course đżđ·đ
2023.12.19 20:17 Fabianzzz đżđ·đ Announcing: The Dionysian Mythology Course đżđ·đ
âNow these things never happened, but always are.â
- Sallust, On the Gods and the World
The Dionysian Mythology Course Where does one start with Dionysian mythology? The Bacchae is well regarded, but is only one myth out of hundreds. The Frogs of Aristophanes is funny, but raises questions of how much should we trust a comedy to tell us about Dionysus? The Dionysiaca is long, taking the first 8 books to get to Dionysus, but some view it as suspect as it comes so late. Other myths are found interwoven in larger epics, like Ovidâs Metamorphoses, or pieces of myth are found in obscurer works, like late antique fables of Aesop.
But what do we do when they disagree? How do we establish mythic authority? Where do these myths come from anyways?
Well, the Dionysian Mythology Course will answer these questions and more. But we won't just be summarizing the myths -
Theoi.com's got us covered on that. We arenât just recounting characters and plot points - we are doing a deep dive into what these stories say, what they tell of Dionysus, and how we can approach them as Dionysians. We'll look at their historical and cultic context, and apply different approaches to myth to dig deep into their meaning.
This course is for you if:
- Youâre not sure how to approach myths that seem to contradict each other
- You have questions about what myths are, how they're constructed, and where they come from
- Youâre curious to know how we got the myths we currently have from antiquity, and if its possible to find new ones
- Youâre wanting to know how the myths fit together to form bigger narratives
- You want to know about the spiritual understandings of the myths
- Youâd like to be better able to approach the harsher aspects of the mythology (such as the racism and sexual assault in the Dionysiaca)
This is an 8 class course - it is a foundation of the Dionysian ordination program of NoDE.
It will be Sundays, January 7th through February 25th, 8pm - 10pm ET. We will meet online via slack. As an 8 week course, this will be $200. This includes access to course materials and one on one consultations about the material.
If there is a specific myth (or plural) youâd love to know more about, have questions about (why is Dionysus doing something, what does the myth mean) , message me when signing up for the course (or after) and Iâll be happy to highlight it. We will be covering the most common myths, but Dionysus has too many to count - so if thereâs something youâd like discussed, let me know.
What's Ordination? Ordination is the process of becoming a priest. As Nđ¶DE is looking to register as a religious organization, we will also look to register clergy who would be therefore authorized to perform rituals, namely the officiation of weddings. There is a lot of work that goes into this, from both a religious and bureaucratic perspective, and one set of requirements we have is religious instruction through these courses. If you are curious for more info on that, feel free to send an email.
What if I can't afford it? Getting compensated for these courses is how I am able to offer them. However, if it isnât achievable for you, please donât hesitate to reach out - we can work something out - payment plan, reduced rate, art, energy exchange, etc.
What if I canât make the times? The course is written and materials are available at any time. I will ask that those who are interested in having this course count for the ordination process fill out the questions worksheet style if they miss, but thereâs no deadline or grading of those answers.
To apply, email [
bibliothecadionysia@gmail.com](mailto:
bibliothecadionysia@gmail.com)! Spots are limited so please apply sooner rather than later.
Deadline to apply is Jan 6th. Bacchic Blessings!

2023.01.15 00:33 20milesoutoftown [QCrit] Literary fiction, ROMEO LAY BLEEDING (118k, 1st attempt)
Hi everyone! I would love some feedback on my query. I'm not sure on the third paragraph, if it's introducing too many characters. The bulk of the novel is about Joanie and Angel, but there are other narratives that all intertwine. I feel like it's missing something as well. Thank you!
---------
Joanie always says, sex work isnât difficult, just hard. Sheâs built a career as a prostitute, but as time passed she got too old. So, thatâs why she had daughters right? She now acts as pimp for her two eldest daughters, Ruby and Pearl Ann. She spends her days at the table in her room at the Pair-A-Dice Motel in Reno, Nevada, building houses of cards while negotiating deals with men and collecting money. Her youngest, Angel, is only twelve, but Joanie plans to start Angel working when sheâs fourteen.
Angel has different plans though. While Angel watches her sisters disappear into the adjoining room, the light slowly dimming from their eyes, she fills out home school worksheets. Sheâs up to the tenth grade, the first in her family to make it past the sixth grade. She knows what she needs to do, and that is escape. But, sheâs not sure how exactly. Sheâs not sure how to make it in the world as a kid, but sheâs slowly been saving up her pocket money. At the rate sheâs able to save, it isnât enough to secure a future and she can feel her fourteenth birthday approaching. Time is ticking by.
Intertwined in Joanie and Angelâs stories are the stories of the past residents of the Pair-A-Dice Motel. Edwin is a preacher who flees to Reno during a crisis of faith seeking refuge. Donna is an actress who comes to Reno for the âReno Cure,â a quickie divorce. Ernie is an ex-bank robber turned traveling taxidermist who has vowed to never touch another gun, that is until he discovers a bank has the piece heâs been dreaming of, the fabled jackalope. Eugene is masquerading as the Reverend Gary Hope, gaining trust in small towns while luring children into his van. And lastly Romeo is a boxer who arrives in Vegas for a match and after an embarrassing defeat, develops a gambling addiction, moves to Reno and borrows money from dangerous men.
Their stories collide and converge into one bloody end. Romeo Lay Bleeding is a 118,000 word account spanning over fifty years with multiple character narratives reminiscent for fans of The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock. .
I live in Reno, Nevada and work at a small bookstore with a gun toting, bacon obsessed boss.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

The Golden Mound For centuries the ancient red-headed people of the ancient Western Wilds have recognised the ancient mystic powers of this ancient Celtic talisman, carved from solid Ï-kentonite in the elegant shape of a mound by unknown ancient wizards. Heraldry â the science of flecking and bobbing â plays a large part in the traditions of any hopscotch team. The mound is thrice cursed, fabled to crush ships passing nearby, fully space age, and capable of displaying text and images from a superior bespoke database of richly entertaining media.

2022.09.24 20:18 TikiMouse AA/NA alternative in Beta
The AA and NA Recovery models include God in many Steps, and while some versions have updated to using the term "higher power," the step Book and worksheets make it clear through context and biblical parables, that the Christian God is the "higher power" in question. The Agnostic All-addict Recovery Steps are comparable and compatible with the AA and NA 12 step programs, but this model relies on imagery, vocabulary, fables, and metaphors unrelated to Christianity.

2021.05.07 11:27 mathworkout My language learning process - Spanish
I have been learning Spanish for a little over a year now, and my ultimate goal is to be able to have a one-hour conversation fluently with little or no errors and understand what is being said to me. This is where I currently am. I hope this information helps someone.
In exactly 2 days, I will have completed one full month with base Lang. I plan on staying with base Lang for 5 more months (maybe more). Over the last month I have improved my speaking a bit as I am speaking faster now, and I am using some subjunctives when I speak. I have created over 1000 flashcards from examples (phrases) that teachers give me during our lessons as well as sentence corrections that they make for me when I have made mistakes (I have awesome teachers). Other programs that I am using with base Lang are:
- memrise
- lingolia
- Fable cottage animations for reading and listening
- ouino to listen full conversations about multiple topics
- Asimil
- reading novels and online articles
I do not do all of these in any given day. I make weekly schedules that include a little bit of each.
Base Lang is a tutoring platform that provides unlimited one on one tutoring. I used italki in the past but switched for the unlimited tutoring. Italki is great as well.
Memrise is a flashcard application that allows you to test your listening skills as well as translate from native language to target language and vice versa. I use phrases instead of words to learn whole ideas. You have to write the whole phrase, which is great so, if you keep forgetting a word like "de" or "a" in Spanish, this will help you to improve. I just started and I hope to use it continuously and rigorously for the next five months.
Lingolia is a website that has worksheets for grammar practice.
Ouino and Assimil: They both consist of conversations between two people. Base Lang gives me one on one experience, these other two help me to understand a conversation between others. I started both already a while ago but will continue to listen to them.
The fable cottage website has animated short stories like Cinderella, Rumplestiltskin in my target language in video and has transcripts that you can read. It helps me with telling stories or narrating events especially events in the past. Some stories are still in audio only, but they update periodically
Reading: I am reading a novel by Carlos Ruiz ZafĂłn as well as articles on el paĂs
Busuu was my organized language learning program that contained almost every lesson that I needed to get to B2.
Where are you in your language learning journey?

2021.02.12 15:42 ChristianOrthodox23 Weird Website that could lead to a big illegal website
So, just yesterday, some guy on the /x/ board on 4chan, said how he found a weird website. The website was this one
https://www.neurotucson.com/iftjx8i/rd8rq.php?3ac8ed=who-is-biggie-cheese . And at first it looks like it is just gibberish and a bunch of random words put together. But as continue going through the website, you will realize it leads to other similar websites. Like these ones :
https://caldwellandrews.com/fdavnwse/2345a5-dishwasher-lasagna-mythbusters,
https://jeremy-tan.com/customer-relationship-swly/dishwasher-lasagna-mythbusters-c29b8a ,
http://www.cameohills.com/sites/all/libraries/fitvids/cdqc4el/mythbusters-thanksgiving-food-fables-answer-key-625a1e,
https://grupoconstrurede.com.bwp-content/uploads/estevan-covid-ytzdwi/mythbusters-food-fables-worksheet-answer-key-3f10a1.
Then you can notice how a lot of website have home buttons that don't work. And on one of these website it leads to an ikariam forum,
http://ipsan.org/sites/default/files/7wc1pajl/jwj4hii.php?cb5303=ikariam-forum-ru. Here are some other websites related from the previous ones I mentioned:
http://bl.atleticasetina.it/the-big-test-readworks-answer-key.html,
http://cenacarino.fun/reading-comprehension/y65-rh2704u4mgj.
Now, as I tried to figure out what could all this mean, some anon on the /x/ board as I previously mentioned, suggested that maybe all of these websites could lead to one website at the end. He suggested that the website at the end could be a chatroom or a forum. And he said that it could have illegal nature to it, if the person making all of these hollow website, and even hacking some websites, put so much work into it. So could you guys help me out to figure out what could all of this mean?

2021.02.12 08:24 hydroFractals Iâm starting to feel like I donât like any language learning resources
Ok, obviously Iâm exaggerating. But as I run from one resource to another I hit a wall or annoyance that stops me from continuing with that resource and I just donât know what to do.
Here are some examples of resources Iâve gone through recently for Spanish and German and why I lost motivation.
- Grammar book: got boring and took too much time for me to complete a section and do corrections in one sitting, so I couldnât do it regularly.
- Lupa (app by Radio Ambulante creators focusing on reading and listening comprehension): only two free stories
- The Fable Cottage (online resource to read fairytales in several languages) I actually liked this resource before they took away free features and implemented a paid membership, but it just isnât enough for the learning and practice I need
- Pimsleur (from the library): too focused on speaking and not enough on grammar
- Podcasts: often too difficult (native) or too simple (learning-focused)
- Native books: I like this too, but it often takes me so long just to get through a page or two that Iâm exhausted before I can get to a natural stopping point
- YouTube: great, but it would be so much better if I had a worksheet or some kind of tangible thing to help me retain the info I learn
- iTalki: wonderful for conversation practice, my only qualm here is I got so nervous every week that I just had to take a break... Iâm still on that break
Argh. This is definitely a whiny rant, but I just want to know if anyone else feels like this and what you do about it.
I feel like the obvious answer is to combine all the resources but that makes me feel so disorganized and like Iâm introducing too many gaps in my comprehension. Any thoughts/ideas?
Edit: added iTalki

2020.10.01 10:35 955StarPooper How to be a better patient gamer and actually enjoy games ?
Sorry if the formatting sucks, wrote that on my phone. I noticed that in the past years I slowly started to collect games just to have them in my library and never actually play them or work myself through it. They look very interesting in the videos and description and usually have good reviews. But when I actually play them for like 10-20 minutes I get bored. I donât know why. Thatâs when I started to google the playtime of the games to know how long I need to sit through them, and just kept going not actually playing but working the game if you know what I mean. I have a good example of kingdom come deliverance. I loved the concept of the game, Iâm a great fan of RPGâs, I started to play games with fable 1 gothic 1 ,2 and 3 and kept playing these classic RPGâs so a realistic open world medieval RPG was my dream. I wasnât patient though and preordered it as soon a I knew that was a thing. The game came out and I played it and something didnât felt right, the game just faded for me as I was 20 hours in and I stopped for a while. I bought myself a new PC not too long ago and thought maybe I should give it a try again and I replayed it to the exact same spot where I was in the previous playthrough and noticed what was bothering me. It was the combat system. It felt so clunky and not good that I decided for the first time that I wouldnât have fun playing this game. I think that was a step in the Right direction to have fun with games again I guess? I have a bad example for mafia 3 too, I absolutely loved mafia 2 so I gave m3 a try and I actually like revenge storyâs, but the game was literally dogshit imo. Repetitive gameplay fucked up graphics gun play was meh. The only thing that kept me playing was the story. I had no fun playing this game and it was a relief when I finally finished it. It was like a big pile of worksheets that needed to be done. I know that I wonât do that anymore to any games Iâm playing. How do you guys handle this situation where you notice that you are not playing but working a game ? And thanks for reading my text :)
Bonus: I started playing Witcher 1 and want to play through the trilogy. Iâm 10 hours in and I really enjoy the game despite the weird combat.

Chapter 6: Black and Gold Guardians
One month laterâŠ
Metilla Gorilla had managed to elude his pursuers once more, if only just by a mere stroke of luck. He had just barely stuffed himself through the bars of a maintenance entrance down to the storm drain system. From there, it was only a manner of finding the hidden entrances to the original underground tunnels that sprawled out through Cadric City. There had been long stories of the fabled catacomb systems beneath the city though, much like its catchphrase, were heavily disputed of their purpose. Most of the ancient tunnels had either been blocked by cave-ins or torn down to lay out new sewer systems. If there were any accurate and complete maps of the underground, it was not known even to him.
Cyrus Simmons was rumored to be an eccentric millionaire who never left his home despite his occasional and substantial donations to programs of the arts. Metilla shoved the heavy basement door to get in and forced himself into his large custom chair with a long exasperated groan. Today had been quite a nuisance from that idiot bank teller to being chased out by a rookie heroine. The idea of being bested in any way by a simian infant was embarrassing. Metilla shoved his chair over to the workbench down below and reached for the screwdriver. A few well placed tabs and the crushed stub of his hand popped off. He was impressed the Golden Guardian had been clever enough to do so. With his free hand he turned on the TV for some background noise and sure enough the news was documenting his latest spree at the bank. The reporter though, claimed that it was the Golden Guardian who had chased him off. Well, the news was never accurate anyway. Even so, the Guardian was becoming quite an annoyance. He could see why most villains of any salt had long left even after the Songbird had completely retired from service. Metilla wondered what Songbird was doing with himself these days.
The buzzer rang on the dashboard of his chair and the camera feed activated in the corner of the television. Someone was at the door by the mail slot. He was dressed in the light blue uniform of the postal service, but this was not his usual mailman. The hat was pulled down low and the face was obscured by thick sunglasses. This could be a trick, the gorilla thought. It would not be the first time someone attempted to see the elusive Cyrus Simmons. This mailman spoke into the microphone by the mail slot.
âI have a telegram for Cyrus Simmons. Shall you accept it?â People still used telegrams, Metilla questioned. âWhat is the messageâ, he grunted over the intercom. âAn invitationâ, the mail carrier responded casually. âI request you leave. I have no interest in mingling with the public.â Metillaâs hand hovered over the switch to eject this supposed postal worker off his premises. âOh this is a private partyâŠMetilla.â Metilla held his hand as he processed this statement. âThat got your attention, didnât it?â the man at the door spoke only second later. âYou can refuse it if you want. Iâll just slip it right into your little box hereâŠand done. Perhaps we shall meet later, hmm? Buh-bye.â Metilla tried to switch to another camera to get a better look at this strange visitor but he was already gone. He grumbled and flicked another switch to send the letter down below. It was a cream colored envelope with his name and address written on the front in ink in cursive. The letter was closed with a wax seal with the image of a winged devil inside a ring. Once he opened it, a card fluttered out. The card had been printed on heavy cotton paper with gold edging. Well, at least the visitor had some class. On the front were the words:
âI, the Black Guardian, cordially invite you; Cyrus Simmons aka Metilla Gorilla to tea in the Cadric City underground. The location will be the old Brewery Chamber beneath Ian Street. 9 promptly.â The grape gorilla narrowed his eyes and sniffed the invitation. It smelled both sweet and sour; like a cupcake next to brimstone. He had never even heard of a Black Guardian. Also why just tea?
There were large cavernous âroomsâ strewn about the Underground. The Brewery Chamber was called so because it had been once home to an illegal distillery and bar during the prohibition era. It had still operated under the Alamiro mob until little over the decade ago when most of the major tunnels to it had fallen in on themselves during a mutant mole invasion. Now the bar and the rest of the furnishings just sat there crumbling from the dust and damp. Metilla had been able to clear a way thanks to the jackhammer function on his arm and was surprised to find the place well lit. The floor had been painstakingly swept and all furniture that was still intact had been wiped clean. The lanterns were lit and a slow jazz melody was creaking away from the jukebox. There was only one occupant other than himself inside that room.
He was seated cross-legged on a bar stool. He wore a tight black leather pantsuit and high platform shoes. Silver talons hugged around his ribs and shoulders emulating a skeletal pattern. The visitorâs hair was long and curled and waved about like one of those 80âs metal bands. It did not swirl about like the Golden Guardianâs did, but it seemed alive like a nest of wispy twisted black snakes. His host also bore a mask with a pair of long curved horns that obscured the top half of his chalky white face, though the mask did not obscure his icy orange eyes. He also bore a pair of long, shimmering, black wings. He slid off the barstool and glided ever so gracefully to the only table that had a tablecloth on it. He gestured for his guest to sit down with a long fingerless gloved hand. âI am so glad you came, Mr. Simmons. Otherwise, I had done all this for nothing and that would not have beenâŠvery pleasing for me.â As Metilla seated himself he saw that the plates and silverware before him were in perfect and proper arrangement and were even large enough for himself to use. âTea? Coffee?â his host offered. âAnd do help yourself to the tea cakes. Baking is a hobby of mine, you see.â Metilla gingerly picked up a little pink cake and tucked it into his mouth. He hummed at his pleasure. âAs much as I am impressed by your formality and talent for pastries, you did not bring me here for commentary of your baking.â The host grinned as he sipped down an entire cup of coffee in one go.
âI would have not have made as much of a cleaning effort if that was the case. You see, I would like to conduct a business transaction with you or rather your services.â Metillaâs forearm began to hover over the gun barrel. âI am not some street gunsel you can hire, mister Black Guardian wasnât it?â âBlack if you want to be informal.â âOh how an original name.â Black Guardian laughed with cold bemusement. âIt is an apt title. But you misunderstand me, my good sir. I am offering a trade: a service in exchange for a service.â He offered another biscuit to his guest who politely refused it.
âJust what sort of service would you be offering me, exactlyâ, Metilla inquired. âI can get rid of the Golden Guardian.â Metilla laughed and banged the table in his amusement. The idea was preposterous. He had been around the block enough to know it was better on focusing on getting away rather than removing a hero from service in a permeant manner. Not to mention Metilla had seen enough news reports on villains bigger and stronger than this glam-rocked up Bowie wannabe who had trapped, confronted, assaulted, and ultimately lost to the Guardian. Black Guardian did not smile this time. âYou doubt I can? That is fair enough to believe. But I know a few things and I can guarantee his removal.â Metilla asked for proof and Black Guardian waved his probe away stating that even if he told him, Metilla would not have the means to do it himself.
âAnd why havenât you done all this yourself, hmm? What is with all this tea and contract businessâ Black Guardianâs recused his grin and downed another cup of coffee.
âLet us just say I like to make things interesting.â His deal was simple. The Black Guardian would remove Golden Guardian from hero work indefinitely and in exchange he wanted a favor from Metilla Gorilla that he could collect at a later time of his choosing. Furthermore, he would not impose on this favor until Black Guardian had completed his part of the deal. âSince you doubt my abilities, what do you have to lose?â He placed a contract before the robot simian with the Black Guardianâs signature on the dotted line. So, he liked to do things in a business-like manner, Metilla mused. Metilla Gorilla perused the document carefully before finally signing it. The Black Guardian grinned maliciously. âWell, I guess I should perform my end of the deal then. But firstâŠwould you like some cake to take home?â
****
Shellyâs social science and history class was taking a field trip to the Cadric City Heroes Museum. While the title of the building suggested a broad spectrum, most of the exhibit spaces were occupied by the Golden Guardianâs exploits. There was a half melted statue of the Guardian taken from the fight with Magma Max and a piece of crushed concrete from when Bulldozer Betty and the Sandhogs robbed an armored convoy of forty million dollars before being stopped singlehandedly by the townâs savior. Frix was casually seated on Shellyâs shoulder and hummed at the exhibits. Shelly was trying to keep her backpack from putting any more weight on her shoulder. That fight with Metilla was not something she had been prepared for. She wasnât the Golden Guardian. She couldnât shrug off hits like that. A glance to her opposite shoulder where Frix was sitting and noticed he too was massaging the same shoulder-or what passed for it.
âDid you hurt your shoulder too?â
ââŠnot to my recollection. Hmm isnât your blonde boyfriend wandering away from the group?â Civilian heroes were regulated to the back wall with mostly their pictures and a paragraph, if that, underneath their name and what they did. Shelly had found Reed there by himself who seemed to make an actual effort to not even look at anything Guardian related.
âThe Guardian does not deserve the praise he gets. And they just ignore his failures or those he could have helped by didnât because he was somewhere else.â He didnât really seem to be talking to anyone and hadnât even noticed Shelly was standing there. âEven the best of superheroes canât be everywhere, Reed. Heck, in issue 47 Songbird⊠Reed didnât even turn the slightest to look at her. She wasnât exactly sure he even heard her words but he kept talking anyway. âHe should prioritize those who are close to him. If I was the Guardian, Iâd crush anyone who hurt those I care about.â âMy my my, such shadows within someone so young and pureâ, chortled a voice above them.
The Black Guardian was crouched above the glass case like some form of insidious gargoyle. He flapped his massive wings, creating a gust that blew Reed and Shelly back towards the others. Black leapt from his perch and dug his nails into the floor. Shadows rose from around the doors and windows blocking any possible way out. At this point, Shelly was practically expecting Frix to urge her to take action, but he had disappeared. The Black Guardian strode casually towards the others and paused to look at Shelly. He smiled bemusedly at her. âNow this will be over quickly. Iâve already put in a call to the police so our erstwhile Guardian should be arriving shortly. You are simply a means to get his attention; provided there is nothing else to distract him. In the meantime, just stay where you are and donât try anything yadda yadda yadda.â Fifteen minutes had passed and the museum was already surrounded by the police and they were demanding the Black Guardian to release the hostages. The ebony angel drummed his fingers on the armrest of a mechanical chair exhibit completely callous to the activity outside. âLet us make this a little fun, shall we? Time to count down. TenâŠNineâŠEightâŠSevenâŠSixâŠFiveâŠFourâŠThreeâŠTwoâŠOne!â He shot a hand at the ceiling just as the glass dome shattered above him and the Golden Guardian streaked through. Spiraling downward, he thrust a fist across Black Guardianâs face. The onyx spirit twisted out from his chair and bounced across the floor before crashing against the glass window of the gift shop. Black just stood up casually and brushed the glass from his shoulder. âI hope that was not your best shot, Goldie. Now let us see how fast you can keep up.â He snapped his fingers and the shadows that has entrapped everyone just melted back into the darkness. Black waved and soared through the gap Golden had created like mist up an air shaft and cackled for Gold to chase him. Black swung through the buildings of downtown, darting this way and that but not enough for Gold to lose him. Black cackled with mocking glee and tossed his shield into the side of a building and slicing the corner clean off. The debris tumbled down below towards the streets where people were exiting the building. Gold curled his wings to make him halt in mid-air and plunge him to the ground. He dug his heels into the ground and clapped his hands with a loud thunderous clash. As he pulled his hands apart-light swirled from the palms of his hands until the formed a protective carapace around the crowd in the path of the flying wreckage. He turned upwards seeing Black just hovering there.
Gold zoomed towards him, now with halberd in his hands. Black cackled in excitement and dove backwards off the roof. He could feel Gold hot on his heels as he sped towards the old districts of the city. They were approaching an old brick manor that had been cordoned off as historical monument. Black made his way down into the cellar and towards the back wall. Shoving the stone wall aside he danced downwards deeper underground until he was back in the Brewery Chamber. He heard the timely flap of his opponentâs wings right behind him. Spinning on his heel, Black summoned forth a shield and deflected the incoming slam. Gold was quick to recover and was already back on his feet. Black snapped his fingers and the entrances sprung forth iron bars trapping them both inside. The Golden Guardian held his weapon firm ready to the next strike while Black tossed his shield from one hand to the other.
âTell me, Goldilocks, do you know who I am?â âCanât say Iâve had the pleasure.â Black chuckled at the response. âI see. Well then I wonât make thisâŠpersonal; however, I will be taking your Guardian Ring.â Gold glanced at the ring on his hand. He then noticed there was a ring shaped bulge under Blackâs glove as well. âDo try to make this at least funâ, Black announced.
Black swung his shield forward towards Goldâs head. Gold ducked and jabbed the handle of the halberd right at Blackâs solar plexus. With the momentum he forced Black upwards and airborne. As he fell down, Gold rolled over and horse kicked Black across the room. The dusky demon pulled himself from the entanglement of a table. He had to roll forward to avoid a ground strike from Gold. The two pair clashed repeatedly in the cramped space of the chamber; their wings beating frantically to stay aloft in the stale air of the area. The hall reverberated with the sounds as the shield and halberd clashed against one another. Neither weapon could touch the flesh of the other nor disarm their opponent. Black snapped his fingers and summoned forth more orbs of energy. He bounded into the air and fired them downward in a carved arc around Gold. Gold swung the halberd in a wide arc as each orb became absorbed into the blade. One hefty swing and fired all that collected energy forward across the room. Black snapped one wing around him to deflect the oncoming shot. As the magic skirted around him, he snapped his wrist and shot forth a tether formed of magic around Goldâs leg. He snapped the tether with a massive wave and repeatedly slammed Gold into the ground and walls. With the final slam, Gold jammed the blade of the halberd into a crack on the floor and jerked free of the binding. Black stumbled forward and Gold rebounded by ramming him with his shoulder into the wall. He gave the demon no chance to recover and rammed him repeatedly until he finally collapsed. Gold pinned him down with one foot on one hand and the handle of the halberd holding the other. He didnât like knowing that Black was still smiling. âYouâre goodâ, the Black Guardian panted. âI can see why this city adores you. Fighting the mortal threats by day and taking down my monsters at night.â The Golden Guardian pressed down his weight. At mention of monsters, Goldâs halberd dug deeper into the ground and closer to Blackâs wrist.
âOh my, I hit a special nerve, didnât I?â
âI donât know who you are, but I wonât let you continue to threaten this city!â The demon choked out a wheezing laugh. âWell, when it comes to pugilism you win. But I still have one little trick left.â The Black Guardian summoned all his energy in one spot and created one massive blast that threw the Gold Guardian off his body. Black pulled a small ivory box from a pocket in his glove and snapped it open. Something black spilled out over Goldâs shoe. It wriggled slightly and suddenly began to spread up his leg. It bubbled and frothed as it continued to grow and coat the angelâs legs. Gold tore frantically at it only to have gobs of the black ooze slip through his fingers and spread further. Black Guardian pounded the floor and clutched his abdomen as his laugh rose to maniacal levels. âWell well well, our little angel has some big shadows in his soul, doesnât he? I wonder what it could be. Heh heh heh, your ring is going to soon reject your corrupted body and pop, itâs all mine.â Golden Guardian frantically tried to fly away even as the ooze spread down his back and swallowed his wings. When the gook had coated his head, he collapsed back down to the ground. The Black Guardian waited a moment as the sludge absorbed into the Guardianâs skin. He was no longer in Guardian form once the muck had finished dissolving. The ring was gone. Black Guardian latched Gold by his suit lapels and shook him demanding the ring. Gold was still slightly conscious. âIâŠsent it away.â He then passed out. Black slammed his unconscious body back on the floor in frustration. âI should kill you for that, but I foresee some use of you in the future. Besides, I doubt your successor can do anything against me.â

Marco and Reed were at the dining room table alone. After the experience at the museum, the school thought it best the students went home for the rest of the day. Marco was tapping on his laptop for the next dayâs board presentation while Reed was going his math homework. Marco saw that his brother kept erasing and his pencil was almost a nib the number of times he kept sharpening it. âDo you want me to help you with that?â âI can do this on my ownâ, Reed snapped. Reedâs homework was coated in eraser dust and pencil marks. âCome on Reed, there is no shame in asking forâŠâ Something bounced on Reedâs worksheet and scattered them across the table. A few tink sounds and the thing settled between two of his worksheets. Reed flipped a paper aside and gasped at what the object was. âThatâs dadâs ring!â Reed grabbed for the ring, but Marco snatched it up. âHold on, something isnât right here.â âButâŠif his ring is here, then that meansâŠâ Marco grabbed Reedâs reaching hand and gripped it; perhaps a little harsher than he meant to. âReed, just wait a minute. I know exactly what is going through that brain of yours. Besides, do you honestly think the ring would even work for you? You, a scrawny little weakling who canât even do a simple math problem?â Marcoâs phone rang to break the silence as Reed just went limp on the table. Marco answered the caller with a few âyesâ and âokayâ before hanging up. He exhaled with relief and tossed the ring into his shirt pocket. âThat was Dad. Heâs a bit beaten up, but fine. Iâm going to go get him and Iâm putting the ring in the safe until he gets back.â As he walked away, he stopped and sighed.
âReedâŠIâm sorry. I didnât meanâŠâ Reed just glared back at him, rubbing a slightly bruised wrist. âJust leave me alone and go play heroâ, he snarled before burying his head in his textbook. Marco exited the room and twirled the ring between his fingers. Sometimes he wished his father never found the thing in the first place.

2020.01.02 02:37 PokerGod615 ESL student with interrupted education
Looking for any insight and ideas to help one of my ICT students.
He is in one of my 7th graders but 14 yrs old. Currently reading on a 1st-2nd grade level in both English and Spanish. Came to the U.S. 3 yrs ago with limited education records from the D.R.
He's often disruptive, telling dirty jokes in Spanish to make other kids laugh and calling his literacy coach 'Mr. Gringo'. He shuts down instantly when confronted with most work, and gets downright beligerent when presented with work he exclaims "is for babies". If he sees a kiddie style worksheet or Aesop's Fables, he flips out.
We work hard to keep him integrated in class and group work but he can't do anything close to the same unit work as the class, and he often holds back his partners and groupmates because they act as a translator for him and all he seems to try hard and succeed at is to make them laugh. We've even given him differentiated tasks like to write funny personal narratives or humorous arguments about basic topics, depending on the unit.
His SETSS teacher isn't bilingual. We are limited in technology and intervention resources. I have to use the TCRWP curriculum but we work to adapt it without getting crap from admin. We're always trying to make him feel relaxed and welcome, crafting activities based on his limited interests and trying to instruct him on phonics and reading without him shutting down because he's reading kiddie books. He has access to Flocabulary and Imagine Learning but refuses to work on them. He's also adept at using Google Translate to respond to online-based comprehension questions.
I feel like I fail this child everyday. Badly wanna change this.

2019.09.23 01:02 bkfinest848 Demo lesson tomorrow
Hello all,
I'm performing a demo lesson at a charter school. My lesson is on finding the central message in a folktale, fable, or myth. The lesson is anywhere between 25-30 minutes, but I want them to be the most engaging minutes for all students. So far I have a standard powerpoint and Mini lesson. The independent activity is kind of up in the air... might do a standard worksheet. But honestly, this all seems kind of dry. Any ideas? Thank you so much!
