AUS Mount from Reptilia, for 30mm diameter magnified optics, is a beautifully crafted piece of machinery. This product is the result of a 2-year development program and it truly shows in its design and functionality. The finish, an Anodized Flat Dark Earth, gives it a sleek look that blends well with various M1913 Picatinny rails it can be attached to.
This AUS Mount stands out due to the custom bolt mounting system with an anti-snag, spring-loaded, nitrided steel clamp. The 30-inch arm length fits perfectly in my limited space, and the steel frame construction gives me the durability that I need.

As a sailor, the importance of having a reliable and secure autopilot system cannot be overstated. So when it came time to replace the mounting socket for my autopilot, I decided to give the Raymarine Cantilever Mounting Socket a try. The high-grade design stood out to me and, after a few weeks of using it, I can confidently say that it delivered on its promise of extended lifespan.
One of the things that impressed me most during my first installation was how easy it was to fit on my autopilot. The 30mm cantilever hole was perfect, and with a simple cut and a few twists, the socket was securely in place. I also appreciated the sturdy design, which gave me the confidence that my autopilot would hold up during even the roughest sea conditions.
However, there were a few minor drawbacks as well. After my first use, I had a bit of trouble with the mounting system. Even though the included epoxy was effective in securing the cap, I faced some difficulty getting rid of captured air. Eventually, I found a workaround that involved leaving some of the glue-free while inserting the cap, but I wouldn't say it was ideal.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase of the Raymarine Cantilever Mounting Socket. It's a well-engineered product that delivers a rock-solid performance, and while it's priced a bit higher than some alternatives, it's worth it for the peace of mind it provides.

I recently had the chance to use the Shimano Altus CT91 Rear Cantilever Brake with Link Wire during a grueling mountain bike ride. After struggling with my previous brakes, these new ones made a world of difference. The adjustable brake toe and spring tension provided me with peace of mind when braking, especially during those high-speed descents.

The installation process was a bit longer than I would've liked, and the straddle wire needed some fine-tuning to prevent any unwanted noises or vibrations. However, these issues were easily overcome, and the product's sturdiness and stopping power truly shone through.
In conclusion, the Shimano Altus CT91 Rear Cantilever Brake with Link Wire proved to be an excellent choice for my mountain bike. Its adjustability, durability, and ease of installation made it a win for me, despite those minor hiccups during setup.

The full-motion design allows for easy manual adjustments, enabling me to find the perfect angle for an optimal viewing experience. The package comes with everything I need, including a user manual and hardware pack, making it a hassle-free setup process.
However, one area where it falls short is the bubble level. It doesn't come included with the mount, so users might need to purchase it separately or rely on their own tools for ensuring a perfectly balanced positioning. Nonetheless, this minor inconvenience hasn't detracted from my overall positive experience with the InstallerCCTV Universal Cantilever Wall Mount. It truly is a reliable and user-friendly choice for any TV enthusiast.

2024.05.29 04:00 Odtoast Stomach issues taking over my life!

Hi. This is quite a long post so please bear with me. I could really use some help. I’m gonna put as many details as I can in here.
Background details on me: I, (24 F) live in the UK. I’m generally healthy but slightly on the overweight side (my weight has fluctuated for as long as I can remember but the switch from on your feet retail work to office work has affected my weight) Ive never had any serious health issues apart from a blood clot on my lung when I was seventeen. Despite only being 24 - I am a recovered alcoholic. Over a year. My most recent liver function test was fine. I’ve given up cigarettes for almost two years and occasionally vape as a replacement (I know it’s terrible - I am trying to stop). I do not take drugs and am over 3 years drug clean.
My family history: on my mums side three generations have had cervical cancer. On my dad’s side stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer runs rife. My dad himself has a stomach issue called colitis.
The issue: Around eight months ago I started having these ‘pain episodes’. Always at night, never a specific food triggered it. About once every two weeks. This pain was on my left side underneath my ribs and lasted around five hours a time. It was too much to sleep but I could concentrate on a TV show if I wanted too. I originally passed it off as acid reflux but as it persisted I decided to go to the doctors. They felt my tummy. Asked me some questions about my diet and further said it was acid reflux. I was reccomended a common antacid and sent on my way.
Afew more weeks pass by and this pain persists. I now notice with every time it’s getting worse. I think to myself ‘surely acid reflux does not get THIS bad’. The pain episodes start lasting for around 7 hours. Does not matter whether I’m sitting, standing, laying down. Anything. I also noticed alongside this I felt I had a lot of trapped wind or like I needed to use the toilet without the ability too.
I went back to the doctor. They were annoyed I was back again with this issue but they listened. They now decided it could be a bout of gastritis caused by H.pylori and ordered me to submit a stool sample and IF it came back positive I’d be given antibiotics but they told me to eat bland food. Not spicy and not fried in the meantime. Which I did. This test came back negative and I was not contacted about any next steps.
More time goes by. I stick to the bland foods. The pain gets worse. I begin to get a lot of swelling in my upper abdomen when it comes. These episodes begin happening every other day. The only thing that makes me feel better? Forcing myself to vomit. And trust me, I’m not proud of it. But I tried hot water bottles, cold compresses, every position possible, antacids, encorperating more movement in my everyday. What else could I do? Once I realised the vomiting made the pain go away - that’s what I would do as soon as I felt it. I needed to be able to sleep because I had work early. I couldn’t be up all night in pain.
One night. I have a specifically terrible episode and end up in A&E. this time the vomiting didn’t help and actually made it worse. I now notice a little hard lump on my upper left abdomen that is there constantly. A&E take my blood and the results come back that my liver function is ever so slightly elevated. They feel my tummy. Tell me it’s gastritis. Send me home. By that point the pain subsided and I was exhausted. I wasn’t going to fight it.
I wake up the next day and the first thing I do is get a doctors appointment. I ask for the same doctor as last time. I give her all my symptoms. She notes the fact that I’ve noticeably lost weight since the last appointment. She feels my tummy and decides to refer me for an abdominal ultrasound to check my pancreas, liver, gallbladder and stomach. She also ordered blood tests to check me for celiac disease (again negative) and my liver again (it had returned to normal)
I waited for two months to get a refferal letter. As I write this - the scan date is just shy of a month away.
During this time. The pain has increased to daily. I vomit almost daily because it makes the pain atleast bareable verses unable to talk, or breathe, horrific pain. I went to A&E twice over it, nothing was done. I went to urgent care. They prescribed me lanzoprazole 30mg (one a day before food) hyoscine butylbromide 10mg (2 tablets 4 times a day). It helps, occasionally. I also still can’t go to the toilet and when I can (maybe once a week) it’s a real struggle. The movements are light in color.
I am always pale. I am always tired. My blood pressure is lower than normal for me but still in normal ranges
Basically. Any ideas of what this is? Anyone with similar stories. Are my doctors doing enough? I’m not convinced it’s gastritis or acid reflux. I’m doing everything I can. But this is getting pretty hard to live with.
Thankyou everyone.

2024.05.29 03:38 dizzdafizz Why telling people to stay away from sugar is bad advice and how I stopped my chronic dental decay problems

We've all heard it, whether you were an adult or a kid being forced to dental cleaning and tooth filling by your parents, the dentist or dental assistant would chew you out with an anti-sugar rant and blamed your cavity on not brushing everyday or even brushing once a day instead of two times a day and your glass of orange juice or canned soda from last week. This is something I've heard from the time I was a kid to my early 20's, it was always my fault because I wasn't brushing enough and because I liked sweet beverages but contrary to their advice I was brushing everyday and I didn't drink very much soda considering my parents started to restrict it from me for a period of time but nevertheless the filling appointments kept coming, while I was mostly cavity free during my teen years things got really bad day once I started smoking cigarettes, first I developed a very bad cavity on abscess in one of my wisdom teeth and this led to me getting gaslighted into pulling all my wisdom teeth, a couple years later while attending a jobcorps where I was never allowed to leave the campus without being kicked out the program and my liquid intake was mostly from sugar free fizzy vitamin drinks, juice and coffee I started developing multiple cavities at a time which resulted in me getting multiple fillings but yet still not all the ones I needed despite that I was brushing twice a day most days, the following year being short on money and dropped off my parents dental plan while the money I did have was going elsewhere I withheld getting a couple cavities in my back molars filled for a few months, I tried compensating for this by pouring a tone of salt in a warm glass of water and swishing that water in my mouth before bed, low and behold not only did this not work but in just a few months of doing this one my molars decayed to the point of being halfway gone and the other developing a large cavity at the gum line, so I wound up getting two root canals in these molars early 2020 along with another filling on my incisor while I first started to make changes to my habits. You'd think I have more since then but after what's been roughly 5 years I've haven't developed another cavity since and I'll go through what I truly believe the reasoning for this being despite that I don't brush my teeth anymore than I used two and that I still consume sugar.
  1. I started actually drinking water, I came up with this idea while at work to start buying gallons of water because they were cheap, they helped make me feel energetic, and they helped my chronic tendonitis, they say sugar is bad for your teeth because the remains that stick to your teeth attract bacteria that produce an acidic byproduct or because it's acid but the problem is this wouldn't be any different from anything else you eat that leaves residue or gets caught in between your teeth, if a piece of steak gets caught between your teeth the microbes are going to go after that, and sugar by itself actually has a neutral PH. What not only helps wash away debris in your mouth but also regulates the PH level in your mouth di drinking regular water because that's one of the actual reasons why I believe tooth decay is so prominent in our species, we consume lots of acidic cooked or carbonated beverages that can damage the enamel of your teeth, just by drinking a significant amount of water you compensate for this by buffering out the acids leftover plus you simulate your saliva production which has antibody/PH modifying effects of it's own. This principal can be used I you choose to smoke cigarettes as well, smoking whatever it may be is another large contributor to societal tooth decay because the combust is very acidic and it sticks to your teeth, if you wash your mouth it after smoking like I started doing especially with warm water you can counteract this effect, but Ideally smoking should be stopped. Today I still drink my sugary monsters but I'll drink water aside them, I don't find drinking only water is necessary but the important thing to do is to not neglect it. If you reading get my drift here, IT'S NOT THE SUGAR THAT'S ROTTING YOUR TEETH, IT'S DEHYDRATION! WHICH MEANS ACIDS IN YOUR MOUTH GO UNCHECKED!
  2. I started eating a more nutritious diet, in early 2020 after months after finally getting away from being trapped and graduating from the local jobcorps, this lead to me being able to prepare my own food I developed a more enhanced interest in nutrition after I watched the What in the health documentary, this lead to conduct a mostly whole food plant based diet experiment on myself for several months, while the strict plant based part didn't last what did was my consumption of things that actually have minerals including CALCIUM such as vegetables, beans, whole grains and I bought an instant pot so I could easily prepare my own veggies and beans. Today consume more whole wheat and leafy greens as well as sardines, salmon and fermented dairy products and beverages with fortified minerals.
Before for years too much of my diet was made up of refined grains and meat, when grains are refined they lose much of or even all of their nutritional value, white rice literally has no vitamins or minerals in it. This is why nutritionists and physicians tell people to consume whole grains over refined, meats are also not a significant source of calcium, vitamin K oe magnesium which are also other important nutrients for your bones as well as your teeth, this is also where spring water comes in hand, it's naturally high in ph and has natural sources of minerals that helps protects the teeth of animals in the wild.
  1. I started only brushing my teeth once a day and that time particularly being just before I go to bed, whenever before I brushed my teeth in the morning I could tell they became more sensitive and would lose their exterior natural protection from the acids and I would feel it if I had breakfast after, I also fail to see the benefit of brushing after waking up when I already brushed the night before. I usually just brush once a day now and sometimes I forget and skip a day, the reason why I don't skip brushing altogether is because I don't want plaque building up in my mouth and I want to brush away any possible remaining trails of food debris.

2024.05.29 03:28 Many_Ad4819 Questions and experiences regarding anxiety

Hey everyone, i wanted to talk and ask about some things i've been going through, and possibly answer a few questions me and others might have too. Im 26M, from europe
Ok so i wanted to share what happened to me. Basically, i never had any anxiety whatsoever, i didnt even knew it existed, never heard anyone around me about it either.
Smoked weed from 15 till 19, no problems, just made me paranoid and i quit without problems because i felt like a total junkie that everyone was staring at
Smoked cigarettes from 15 until 26,quit 2 months ago for about 1 month and started again for around 2 weeks with the same amou nt as always (3 quarter pack a day), then decided to quit again because it made me very uncomfortable and i actually felt like i was just killing myself with it for the first time, it feels disgusting to do knowing that im just fucking my body with it. During the last 2 weeks i somedays smoked 1-4 cigarettes or none, kinda back and forth, but i used at least 3-5 nicotine gums (4mg) each day regardless from the first time of quitting I can easily quit smoking i noticed because of the gums, but im afraid of the initial nicotine withdrawal should i stop the gums and i noticed that hanging with friends who smoke is my downfall, because if i dont have ciggarettes in my vicinity i dont smoke, like its that easy, im also not gonna buy them, and to top it off the prices have risen insanely the last years so to me the timing is perfect to quit, which would leave me only with nicotine withdrawal/addiction for now.
Drank heavily since around 20, going to parties every weekend friday and saturday, downing ungodly amounts of liqour and beers, because my tolerance was so high, people were almost passing out and i was still making drinks for myself haha, but this led to daytime and weekday drinking too, almost every day i would drink until around 6 months ago, i completely quit because my health deteriorated very much and it felt just so bad, aside from getting mentally and physically fucked by it.
Now comes the fun part
So i was still drinking at 25,working in an office, still smoking how i used to, also i started drinking coffee during this period which i never did before, and i drank pretty strong coffee Never had stress ever, i was always 'way' too relaxed in my own words. I had abused diazepam benzo recreationally without knowing jack shit about the harmful effects, taking up to 50mg a day for no reason for a period of around 2 months leading up to this
I remember quitting the benzos 'because i didnt have anymore' and i didnt need it, and i thought to myself why the fuck do i even take these, so about 5 days or slightly more quitting cold turkey, i was working and went outside to drink coffee and also smoke, not having drank alcohol for the past 3 days too, went into an online meeting and got a full blown panic attack. Since then it happened multiple times in a short period, so i decided to quit booze cold turkey shortly after while i was still in the benzo withdrawal, great success like borat would say right? Well, i went through a living hell, its been around 8 months ago this happened.
So then shortly after quitting the booze which caused me even more anxiety and panic i did around a month of temazepam which was lower in mg, around 20mg per day i would say because i just couldnt handle it anymore, eventually after that month i asked my doctor for a taper dose for 6 weeks, and eventually got off it.
So this was just to show the background, what is happening now is that ive been off booze and benzos for around 7 months. I occasionally drank during that time until now, lets say 5 times, and i noticed peaks in anxiety the next 4 or 5 days. Now im trying to quit smoking after that failed month.
However, im dealing with insane amounts of stress some days, ever since that shit happened i have had general anxiety and ever since i quit smoking im really paranoid about my heartbeat and constantly paying attention to it which stresses me more in any given situation, which in turns worsens the anxiety. I havent smoked in around 5 days and today i just wanted to see what would happen if i just smoked 1. I was already a bit stressed in general the whole day and then when i smoked i felt my heartbeat shoot up and i felt very anxious and uncomfortable and started sweating, this is what usually happens to me and if i pay more attention to it it can go into a panic attack too, and just from 1 fucking cigarette.. And before those 5 days i felt generally good and didnt have anything except for constantly paranoid with my heart rate and letting the stress almost consume me.
Apologies for the long post but i feel like these things should be explained carefully
I started going to the gym 5 weeks ago and people are already telling me my body and face look way better, i sleep at least 7 hours a day which before would be maximum of 5 for all these years. And i feel way better in general.
My questions. -Is the stress and anxiety that im experiencing a possible aftershock from doing all this crap i said above? And would i be able to return to my normal mental state? Looking at that its already taking many months..
-What advice can i get for the smoking, i already set my mind to quitting and i know i can do it, but i want to quit those nicotine gums because nicotine itself also causes this stress on your body and keeps the addiction alive, but im afraid of the withdrawal.
-is there anyone else with a similar situation that has advice for me?
-What can i do about constantly stressing over my own heartbeat, even with the slightest pounding or irregularity?
-is it normal that i felt like this after having that 1 cigarette? I never had any problems with it before, is it the tolerance?
-Any more general advice?
My advice -Dont do fucking benzos, never, this shit ruined it for me, really guys its poison, i wish i knew sooner, i advice everyone to stay far away from this and if youre hooked, taper down asap. Its almost a death wish
-Quit smoking, it made me feel alot better in terms of health, my lungs, my wallet, the smell, teeth and mouth not stinking all day, clothes too, it removed the aches that i had in my heart and chest too, and also skin quality. and if you try to quit, put 100% of your mind to it because that slip-up is very easy.
-Cut down on drinking, i quit because i had to but didnt want to, it became very bad for my body and mental state, but drinking every weekend like most people is just making yourself stuck in a circle and keeping you unhealthy with a bad immunesystem, its a silent killer in my opinion.
-Try the gym, it helped me alot with feeling better, if you cant, try to move, run or walk atleast if you can every day
-Stop eating junkfood and stop drinking sugar, , this also fucked me and especially my stomach and skin, i eat healthier now and the difference is huge.
-what helped me especially with panic attacks is breathing hard in and out and focussing on the breathing, this prevents it from happening to me, and if it does happen, same strategy, it depletes oxygen to your brain so breathing is best to do
-i come to the realization that many people appareantly in my enviroment also have had these anxiety problems, and many said that its like an annoying kid that keeps poking, the more you give it attention the more it will come back, try to let it go over you like a wave from the ocean while youre at the beach, after some times the feeling should die down very much.
Thanks for reading and i wish everyone the best of luck with this bullshit that we have sometimes, i hope i could give some insight also :)

2024.05.29 03:16 BrazilianBoardGaming I'm going to quit today

In a few hours I'm going into surgery to have my tonsils removed. Doctor told me that this would be a good opportunity to quit smoking and thats what I plan to do. I've smoked 1-3 packs a day for the past 6 years and the health issues are really starting to show. As of posting this, I just smoked the last cigarettes that I had left and threw away my lighters. And I even emptied my bank account buying groceries so I wont even have money for a new pack for the next week. Any advice is welcome and wish me luck

2024.05.29 03:04 WhiteShadow5063 A better(?) recruit rework idea

I’m bored asf so I’m gonna put together my last 2 brain cells and try and make a better recruit rework than Ubisoft, the small indie company, did
So recruit is a recruit, and he is trying to learn how to be the best and gain satisfaction from the other ops, so clearly he’s gonna learn things from them. Basically his gadget is copying one op on his side (that there team picked, so can’t copy brava if no one on his team picked brava) and he’s gonna gain that ability (however considerably weaker bc it’s not his, he’s js trying to do his best) now some of these ideas could be op, and some might be weak, but it depends on your standing. ALSO I AM NOT THE BEST AT THE GAME, SO IF ANY OF THESE CHANGES DONT MAKE SENSE THATS WHY. Anyway hope yall enjoy
Attack:
Recruit - can pick to be 1 speed/3 health, 2 speed/2 health, or 3 speed/1 health (I’ve heard that’s what he could do when the game first came out, but idk bc I didn’t play back then) he can pick what he has now (lmg, L85A2, marksman rifle) and what he will have (M4 and the other one) AND a shield. All are fully customizable. secondary’s are whatever he has now + what he will have, again all customizable. For the secondary gadget he can pick any secondary gadget on attack but only that gadget, so no impact/breach or frag/stun
Sledge - he copies his sledge hammer into a hammer, so it only has 5 uses (bc realistically sledge isn’t using 25 sledgehammers in a round) and it has a smaller AOE
Thatcher - so either it’s a impact emp with the range of thatch or it’s thatchers emp with the range of an impact
Ash - 1 ash charge, but it’s more of a sticky grenade that takes a bit longer to blow up and needs to be thrown
Thermite - 1 exothermic charge that takes longer to blow up and has a smaller explosive range
Twitch - 1 regular drone turns into a shock drone, and has 3 shots and can’t jump. After that it’s a regular drone
Monty - NEEDS SHIELD, and if recruit has a shield he can’t run (bc Monty’s shield is heavy) BUT can extend like Monty’s, only a bit weaker (so quicker to shield stun? him) and only protects the front and not the sides
Glaz - recruit gets a thermal lens, which can be applied to a drone OR to the phone. If it’s a drone, it’s like glaz, where the more you move, the weaker the thermal gets. If it’s the phone, you can walk around with your phone in your face and can get VERY faint thermal readings. Basically it means your pulse but weaker, and you need to use your eyes to distinguish if it’s natural or an enemy
Fuze - 1 Fuze charge that can’t drill through a reinforced wall hatch, but it does a reinforced penetration (it takes longer to blow) and has three (or 2) explosive hockey pucks
Blitz - NEEDS SHIELD, and after he picks a shield he can run but a bit slower, and can use 2 flashes, but a bit weaker (shorter stun time and shorter range)
IQ - turns phone into iq scanner (can switch between iq and drone) has to stand still and has a max timer of 20 seconds. After that, phone goes back to normal
Blackbeard - tbh, idk for this one, bc BB Is already hella weak, AND he’s getting a “remaster” this year, so yea. Besides, BB is RARELY picked so if anything, recruit gets body armor, so +10 health or sum
Buck - adds an under barrel shotgun to whichever gun is equipped, and only has 6 shots, which after jams and breaks
Capito - makes makeshift crossy, which needs to be shot standing still and pulling the bow back. Can chose one smoke arrow or one fire arrow
Hibanna - gets 6 hibannas and has to throw each one individually (like womai)
Jackal - scans 1 pair of feet, but doesn’t know if they’re old or new, and last for 1 ping (so like 5 sec or something)
Ying - 1 candela, which can be thrown with no timer, stun last shorter and recruit is affected by candela stun
Zofia - same with capito but maybe a little ball that stuns or explodes idk
Dokabi - 1 hack, either call or hack cams. If call, short call time and short hang up time. If cams, only default cams can be used for a minute (or something) and can’t see other cams (so needs to hack echos phone to see yokais or if doc put a bp down, hack doc’s phone, etc) tbh that cam part might be a good dok nerf
Lion - short ping if moved, and longer time to stop moving, only 1
Finka - 1 boost and can’t heal status effects, and can’t help downed teammates, but can still heal for 20(?)
Maverick - 1 charge of a flamethrower, burns fuel fast, and longer time to blowtorch a hole into a reinforced wall or sum
Nomad - smaller AOE, and only 1 of them, and has to throw them
Gridlock - 1 can of smaller track stinger, so more movement through them and less damage, and less of them
Nook - can be used for 10 sec, and can be glitchy even when not running
Amaru - 1 grapple, shorter range, so can only be used on hatches or balconies (like in Oregon) or it could be used for a faster repel time
Kali - gets an under barrel lance that has 2, and needs to be within 15(?) meters for it to work, or else it falls bc it’s heavy. Also takes a bit to reload
Iana - drone becomes clone of recruit. Moves drone around, and defenders HAVE to shoot the drone to destroy clone, and that drone is gone. It’ll be pretty obvious that it’s a clone too btw
Ace - same thing with thermite, but it needs to be manually started
Zero - drone becomes 1 cam, can’t penetrate reinforced walls or hatches, but can pierce soft walls etc. and 3 shots and then a regular camera
Flores - 1 drone becomes rcxd, can’t jump and has a 4 second countdown. Also isn’t bullet proof after countdown ends
Osa - 1 see-through shield, once placed can’t be picked up, and takes a mag to destroy (like Azami kinda)
Sens - 1 sens roll thing that has a short travel distance and last for 10 seconds
Grim - 1 canister of bees, always bounces and gets 2 pings
Brava - same thing, no jumping, 1 drone gets turned into said gadget, but can only hack 1 electronic gadget, and can’t be controlled (but brava CAN control it bc she lent him her code or sum)
Ram - so either 2 drones get turned into her gadget and only last 5 seconds, or he gets one (courtesy of ram) and keeps his drones, but it’s not bullet proof, gets broken by arunis and last 5 sec (has to be placed either way and can’t be thrown)
Deimos - 1 op can be tracked, recruit switches to his secondary, and either it’s like Deimos but last shorter, and if u go into a mute jammer or vigil it stops tracking even if you popped it when they weren’t, OR both the op being tracked AND recruit are live pinged, or both ops are delayed pinged
Hope yall like my ideas, and lmk if yall wanna see my defending ideas, bc I have more balanced(?) ideas for him over there

THE CASE FOR OMEGA-3 SUPPLEMENTATION TO LOWER AGGRESSION

People who regularly eat fish or take fish oil supplements are getting omega-3 fatty acids, which play a critical role in brain function. Research has long shown a basis in the brain for aggressive and violent behavior, and that poor nutrition is a risk factor for behavior problems. Penn neurocriminologist Adrian Raine has for years been studying whether omega-3 supplementation could therefore reduce aggressive behavior, publishing five randomized controlled trials from different countries. He found significant effects but wanted to know whether these findings extended beyond his laboratory.

WHAT ARE ALTERNATIVES TO OZEMPIC AND WEGOVY AND ARE THEY SAFE?

With summer around the corner, telehealth outlets and medical spas are going into hyperdrive advertising the sale of semaglutide, the active ingredient in popular weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. Recent shortages of the brand-name drugs have opened the door to copycat versions that, while legal, also raise some concerns for consumers, says Kelly Ann Barnes, Northeastern professor of pharmacy law. The copycat drugs are made by specialized pharmacies known as compounding pharmacies, which are allowed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make off-label

2024.05.29 00:32 DraknurOG HIPPA Integrations between software questions

I am an independent insurance agent trying to sell health insurance plans. So, from my understanding I am not a Covered entity, but I am a business associate.
I have been able to identify companies that are HIPAA compliant, but what I’m struggling with is finding providers that will provide the integration between the two companies’ software that are HIPAA compliant or if it is even required.
Below is what I am trying to do:
I plan on running leads from Facebook and only collecting names, phone number, email, and a rapport question such as their favorite hobby. From my understanding these Data points do not constitute PHI.
But later, I would need to collect their medication, Doctors they use, and some identification numbers to get them into the correct plans. I plan on using MailHippo to collect this information which is HIPAA compliant.
I want to be able to store phone conversations, voicemails, emails, etc. which inevitably will have PHI in them.
I know that text messaging is not HIPAA compliant (Unless it’s End-to-end encrypted which is impractical with my business) so I plan on only using it for communicating appointment times or reminders for certain things that will not contain PHI.
Visual example: CRM (HIPAA compliant) <-Integration provider (???HIPAA compliant???)<-Internet phone service (HIPAA compliant)
Here is where I am stuck:
The HHS says “Other Situations in Which a Business Associate Contract Is NOT Required… With a person or organization that acts merely as a conduit for protected health information, for example, the US Postal Service, certain private couriers, and their electronic equivalents.”
https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/privacy/guidance/business-associates/index.html
From what I have read online, internet service providers would fall under the “other situation in which BAA is not required” but I’m not sure if integration services fall under that same category or not. It’s a form of data transmission… so I’m just not expert enough to know if they function in a similar manner as an ISP or if they don’t.
Plus, there are different types of integrations – native, webhooks and I’m sure there’s others I just don’t know about…
I spoke to an integration provider that said that they don’t store the data that is sent through them, and that HIPAA would not be an issue, but the HHS website also states:
When a covered entity engages the services of a CSP to create, receive, maintain, or transmit ePHI (such as to process and/or store ePHI), on its behalf, the CSP is a business associate under HIPAA. Further, when a business associate subcontracts with a CSP to create, receive, maintain, or transmit ePHI on its behalf, the CSP subcontractor itself is a business associate. This is true even if the CSP processes or stores only encrypted ePHI and lacks an encryption key for the data. Lacking an encryption key does not exempt a CSP from business associate status and obligations under the HIPAA Rules*.* As a result, the covered entity (or business associate) and the CSP must enter into a HIPAA-compliant business associate agreement (BAA), and the CSP is both contractually liable for meeting the terms of the BAA and directly liable for compliance with the applicable requirements of the HIPAA Rules. https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/special-topics/health-information-technology/cloud-computing/index.html#_ftn10
I want to do things by the book, and it seems like most people in my industry don’t really care.
Does anybody know of services that provide HIPAA compliant integrations?
Does anybody know of any legal resources that may be able to resolve this issue for me so I can get a definitive answer to this question?
Please help!

Session 1 "The Apartment" (May 24th, 2024)
New York: Tuesday, August 8th, 1995
1:45pm - 3:32pm, EST
Entering the lobby of the Macallistar building in Kips Bay, NYC, the Agents first make a sweep of Abigail's mailbox. Agent MARCUS (M-Cell Case Officer) provided them with a complete set of keys, not to be copied. The mailbox is stuffed full with bills, junk mail, catalogues and offers; mail still being delivered by people who have no idea Abigail is missing. MAVERICK gathers it in a bag and they make their way to Abigail's apartment (Ground floor).
The Macallistar echoes an earlier age. Faded purple carpeting and design from the turn of the century. Opposite Abigail's front door is an old-fashioned telephone nook, complete with bench and curtain for comfort and privacy when phone-lines in individual apartment was an expense few could afford.
M-Cell enters the apartment, finding it somewhere between a hoarder's dream and crime-scene technician's nightmare. The small hallway leads to a living-room (the apartment's largest space), an adjoining bedroom and a kitchen and bathroom opposite each other. Aside from the hallway, on first inspection the only other uncluttered space is the kitchen, which doesn't really look as if it's been used much. MAVERICK ear-marks that as something he wants to check himself as the team begin taking stock.
The NYPD has left a box with copies of their files, including a list of tenants they interviewed, many, many evidence collection bags and a box of latex gloves.
The apartment is filled with various items, with almost no floor visible beneath the collection. CDs and CD cases are stuck or glued to the wall, along with mannequin parts, sketches and assorted pieces that might be ceramic or plastic arranged in odd patterns without reason or rhyme. Stacks of phone books, stretches of dyed fabrics stitched together, an antique claw-footed lamp. Bags, bundles of pictures (drawings and photographs) of seeming nonsense. No furniture is immediately visible in the chaotic mess.
MAIN finds the same result in the bedroom as the first Search rolls are called for. Something catches his eye in the anarchy of the bedroom.
MALATESTA begins sorting through the pile of mail. MILHOUSE at first begins helping, but seeing the scale of the cataloguing, volunteers to make a coffee and food run. MIRANDA begins photographing, while MAVERICK gloves up and asks for things to be passed to him such as brushes, anything with a handle really or something more likely to have fingerprints on it. He wants to see if he can grab a set of Abigail's prints, if that's possible.
It doesn't take MALATESTA long to work out Abigail stopped paying her rent and bills in or around March before disappearing in June. Money was coming in up to a certain point, apparently from a showing Abigail had at the Mercury Gallery in Greenwich Village in November the previous year. There's even a letter from the gallery owner asking about another possible showing; from the way it's written, it might not have been the first time he spoke to Abigail before she vanished. Then, the only money coming in appears to be from her father, though she doesn't appear to have used it to cover the rent. He also gets the building management company, Art Life and their address.
As the Agents work, with MAIN carefully picking his way through the bedroom towards whatever caught his eye and MAVERICK uncovers a battery-powered hi-fi under all the trash, MILHOUSE returns from his coffee run and bumps into someone else entering the Macallistar at the same time he is. After an awkward hesitation on the threshold, MILHOUSE spends a little chatting to Lewis Post, one of Abigail's neighbours. MILHOUSE passes a HUMINT roll and I ruled that having spent most of his time in academics and his fellow PhDs, he can spot signs of some kind of social anxiety. I felt that was a fair get for a good success.
Lewis is hesitant but forthcoming as MILHOUSE works that high charisma score, knowing what to say to diffuse any potential tension. As far as Lewis knows, he is FBI of some kind after all.
MILHOUSE: "Did she ever mention a boyfriend? Girlfriend?"
Lewis: "Our relationship wasn't really like that. We had coffee sometimes. Talked about art. The process." He thinks. "She might have mentioned someone, but not a name, only what they did. A salesman, but I couldn't tell you what they sold."
MILHOUSE: "Talk about anything else?"
Lewis begins heading upstairs "She mentioned moving, but not before she was ready."
Back in the apartment, MAIN voices what others were thinking. "Where was she staying?" No bed, no signs of habitation except for the assorted hoard of crap. MAIN finds a hand grenade nestled in some papers and art supplies near the bedroom's walk-in closet.
In the living room, MAVERICK finds a single cassette tape in the uncovered hi-fi and flips it on, finding the batteries still live. Everyone hears MAVERICK's conversation with his significant other, Natalie from the previous evening. MAVERICK realises it's cut up and out of order, rewinds it and then flips it over. He thinks the entire conversation has been split between A & B sides of the tape.
MALATESTA and MAVERICK both consider phone-tapping, but MAIN, grenade temporarily forgotten, asks how it ended up here?
SAN check for MAVERICK. Pocketing the cassette tape, MAVERICK closes down a bit and prepares to go over the kitchen with a fine tooth comb; perhaps this is how he copes?
Before MAIN can mention the grenade he's worried about, MIRANDA, MALATESTA, MILHOUSE & MAVERICK notice something on the wall behind where the hi-fi was previously buried under junk. Fixed to the wall, maybe with some kind of glue is a piece of brown packing-paper with some kind of symbol drawn on it. Everyone focuses on it.

### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ###

3:41pm to 5:22pm, EST
MALATESTA: "That certainly looks like what we're supposed to be worried about."
MIRANDA snaps a polaroid. MILHOUSE tries to examine it, but his Occult check can only give him the vague thought it's connected to demonology, but little else beyond that. MAVERICK is cautious, but more concerned about getting to work on the unusually spotless kitchen.
Carefully, MIRANDA removes it and a blaring sounds like something between a horn blast and explosion almost deafens the Agents. It seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, from right next to them and outside at the same time.
Everyone passes a CONx5 check and the subsequent SAN check. Through the living room's window, MIRANDA, MILHOUSE and MAIN see a yellow-cab in the street outside. The cabbie appears to have leaned on the horn as someone crosses the street. They appear heavily dressed for summer, possibly homeless.
Is that a snake draped across their shoulders?
MIRANDA takes a polaroid while MILHOUSE and MAIN head outside to investigate. The picture reveals in sharp clarity, the cabbie staring down the barrel as she snapped the shot directly at her. MAVERICK gets to work in the kitchen and MALATESTA picks over things in the living room and bedroom respectively.
Search rolls for those in the apartment.
Outside, the cab has turned the corner and the pedestrian has carried on, though MAIN and MILHOUSE are able to work out where they went. MILHOUSE heads to cut off the other side of the alley, while MAIN approaches from behind, getting the pedestrian's attention. It's the height of summer in NYC, the air reeks of gasoline, rotting garbage and baking, soiled concrete and asphalt.
MAIN finds a nondescript, seemingly homeless man by the state of his clothes, but with a python draped over his shoulders. MAIN strikes up conversation, lighting a Gitane cigarette and pointing to the snake. From the other end of the alley, MILHOUSE makes his way towards the pair.
MAIN fails an alertness check.
Is this guy sweating? It's hot and he's bundled up like it's winter. Is he sweating? Why isn't he sweating?
Back in the apartment, MAVERICK tests the kitchen for blood and body fluids, breaking out the spray bottle and UV light. There's no cutlery, glassware or dishware anywhere in the room, but as he's lifting what could be a print, finds a mechanical diagram drawn on a napkin taped above the inside of an otherwise empty drawer. MALATESTA & MIRANDA continue their search of the living and bedroom, with MALATESTA finding a card printed with the following:
"For a good time Call D - 999-202-9989"
On the reverse are a series of what appear to be street corner addresses in Brooklyn. Could be a sex-line, could be a way to see Red Band underground film screenings, could be something online related. MALATESTA drifts between a few circles and he pockets it out of curiosity. When MIRANDA locates the grenade in the bedroom, she is careful to give it a wide berth and locates what MAIN missed: a backpack radio in the bedroom's walk-in closet. She calls MALATESTA over.
Back in the alleyway, MILHOUSE rolls under 10% and passes his disguise check. Dressed casually and a college athlete to boot, he fits the general chad look in his New York Knicks shirt despite his academic leanings. Being loud and obnoxious like he's drunk, he barrels into the homeless guy with the snake who stonewalled MAIN.
Instead he hits MAIN as the man with the snake is there and gone in the space between blinks. One moment MAIN is looking at him and then MILHOUSE knocks him flat on his ass. Like a film edit. Just gone. MAIN crit fails his SAN check and takes 4 SAN loss without projecting. Instead, as he scrambles up begins kicking over trash cans and searching the alley while MILHOUSE tries to calm him down and get a handle on things.
As MILHOUSE is talking MAIN out of tearing the alley apart, MIRANDA and MALATESTA check out the radio. As it comes to life, they listen and hear the following:
"Exeter. India. One. Thirteen. Sierra. Twenty. Twenty. Forty-nine."
MAVERICK meanwhile, finding the kitchen bare oddly finds the refrigerator stocked. There isn't much inside, some milk unopened and a pack of cheese and deli meat. Expiration is months ago, but through the plastic and glass of the bottle it looks fresh. Curious, he opens the milk and finds it smells as fresh as the day it was bought. Months ago.
Passes his SAN check. Given what he heard on the tape, it's not the strangest thing today.
MAIN and MILHOUSE detour to grab some more coffees, more to calm MAIN down and give him a (successful CHAx5 check) to flirt with the coffeeshop waitress. On their return, MAIN heads into the bedroom, pulls the pin on the grenade and activates the firing lever.
Nothing happens. His "hunch" was correct. Despite failing to properly identify it, something about the shape of it didn't match modern ordnance. Like the radio, it's vintage and either deactivated or else rendered inert by time and age.
I gave MAIN a SAN point back, because why not?
As things begin winding down, MILHOUSE and MAVERICK puzzle over the weird fridge, with MILHOUSE sacrificing his green tea and MAVERICK a donut to see how "fresh" they are come morning between the fridge and not.

### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ### ###

After 6pm, EST
Between them, M-Cell take the rest of the evening to take care of home-scenes or any unfinished business they can get done with their resources at hand. They also divide the Operational evidence from the Case evidence, with MIRANDA taking the symbol, MALATESTA the backpack radio & phone number, MAVERICK the cassette tape (for obvious reasons) and MAIN the mechanical sketch on the napkin.
MIRANDA and MILHOUSE, using the former's academic credentials both stay on the case, with MIRANDA leaving her photos from the park to develop in her bathroom. While she fails her roll, she does help MILHOUSE identify the demon the symbol refers to and book-related lead. She hits up a criminal contact named Hugo to put out feelers for weird items she may be interested in. He agrees for a fee, which she negotiates in her favour.
Returning to her apartment, MIRANDA finds her photos of the dancing clown and watching crowd have developed. In every photograph, the clown is turned away from her, but the faces in the crowd are looking at her. That's not how she remembers it. Fails a SAN check. Projects on to her editor, knowing she's going to be taking a "personal day" tomorrow, and this after she agreed to go to the grill.
This will have consequences.
MAIN, unnerved by the day's events, not the least of which was being knocked on his ass by a fitter, younger man, heads out. He returns to the coffeeshop he and MILHOUSE visited and takes the waitress he hit on out on a date. After a romantic interlude, MAIN has a new bond. Her name's Marsha, she's 27 and very nice.
Breaking Operational Security, MAVERICK asks MALATESTA to come back to his apartment and check for possible surveillance. Despite suffering comparatively little SAN loss overall, MAVERICK is letting the day's events impact his behaviour.
It's trivially easy for MALATESTA to confirm there are no bugs in place, which really does narrow the options for how the conversation could have been recorded. Thankful, he asks MALATESTA to keep this to himself for now, to which the grunge-kid agrees. MAVERICK drops MALATESTA near his home and leaves, putting the tape in the player of his car as he pulls away.
MALATESTA lives near the Village and diverts to check out the Mercury Gallery. Though closed, it seems legit and he makes a note of it for later. Back at home, he breaks open the backpack radio and examines it. The battery is not connected to the radio itself, the wires having been stripped out, yet he and MIRANDA both heard a voice on the end of its phone-mic. He passes his SAN check and finds in place of one of the transistors a small, black stone which does not feel like stone at all and feels like it's body temperature. MALATESTA leaves it on his desk, covered in a cloth.
Alone in his apartment, MAVERICK watches his phone. The time comes and he does not call Natalie. A moment later, his phone rings.
Alone in the apartment, MAVERICK does not answer.

Post-Mortem
We ended up playing for a touch longer than I intended, but I knew that would happen by the time the cab sounded its horn. Despite some tiredness and some drinking, we ended up with a really strong session in retrospect, which has set the overall tone of the campaign for me as GM going forward. Between the five players, two have been through one Delta Green campaign, one has experience with Pulp Cthulhu and two have varying levels of exposure. They all roleplayed the f##k out of their characters and while I was worried about just how weird I wanted things to get out the gate, it feels like the balance is correct and I've given enough avenues for further investigation they may want to pursue.
I got a far better sense, as did the players, as to what drives and motivates their characters and how they cope or don't cope with Delta Green work.
MILHOUSE is definitely setting himself up as the curious academic, Iain playing his interest as forever drawn towards what's there "to discover," he said in character. Perhaps a fool and his sanity are easily parted?
MAVERICK is the "all-American", Agent Cooper adjacent FBI Agent who butts up against the para-natural and is seemingly rocked by it, revealing a complicated and perhaps conflicted depth. In his previous operation with MIRANDA, MAVERICK killed one person, but something about this has gotten under his skin. I wonder what Natalie thinks about their missed call?
A hacker by trade, MALATESTA likes a puzzle as much as he does not like the "weird shit." He talks a good talk when it's about something he knows, but is much too shy to chat up his co-worker. He and MAVERICK had some friction in Session 0 when MAVERICK wanted to call him Mal, to which the younger man pushed back against. Yet, he now knows where MAVERICK lives. Maybe he can learn more? What will he do with that? Does he even want to?
As much as MILHOUSE, MIRANDA is likewise driven by curiosity and a need to know, but first and foremost to keep herself safe. She and him are not the same. There's a scar above her hip from a knife, and it still twinges from time to time. She's also the first to directly or indirectly involve a Bond in the investigation. I wonder what Hugo will or won't find? I wonder what those photos mean. MIRANDA wondered aloud whether the crowd or the clown was the "entity." What does that mean?
Despite being built like Jack Reacher (albeit in a sailor suit), MAIN projects a tough air but is clearly a man at the crossroads. He turns 40 before 1995 ends; middle age. When hit with a problem or something he can't otherwise work out, his behaviour swings from one extreme to the other. To date, he's coped with the case by: lashing out at trash cans in an alley. Chatting up a waitress and forming a romantic bond with her. Pulling the pin on a grenade he "thought" could be fake. It's day one. I'm here for it.
Our next session is scheduled for June 7th, 2024.
Until then, be seeing you.

2024.05.28 21:04 One_Frosty_Mushroom Is it reasonable to tell my roommate no pets because he doesn't do chores?

I live with a roommate and his elderly mother. He's diagnosed with BPD and is an alcoholic, and his mom has early dementia. They moved in with me thinking it would be temporary until they found their own place, but finding suitable housing has been tougher than we thought. So, it looks like they’ll be staying with me much longer than expected. They pay rent, but it doesn’t leave much for food, so I make larger meals and share my groceries with them. I don’t criticize him for spending on cigarettes and alcohol because he seems to need them to simply function.
I knew about his BPD and alcoholism before he moved in, having worked in the addictions field and attended AA because of my ex, who also had BPD. This experience has helped me maintain boundaries which has been good for our relationship.
When he moved in, I told him he could drink as much as he wanted but had to stay in his room because I don’t want to be around when he drinks. He feels ashamed about it but can't stop. He doesn’t lash out, which is good, but he tends to get overly friendly and follows me around the house chatting non-stop, which I find suffocating.
Since moving in, his mental health hasn’t improved much. He’s depressed about not being able to afford his own place. He makes sure his mom eats but doesn’t really push her to bathe or take her meds. I’m hesitant to get too involved because I’ve learned from past experiences that it can lead to me taking over their responsibilities.
His moods and energy levels are all over the place, so he doesn’t help much around the house. I doubt he could handle a job right now. Despite talking to him, giving him specific chores, and reminding him, tasks often go undone, and I constantly have to prompt him.
I’ve accepted that this might be the best he can do. When he moved in, he had two small dogs he said were house-trained, but they weren’t. They’d pee and poop in hidden spots all over the house. He started keeping them in his room with puppy pads, which he’d leave dirty for ages, creating a terrible smell that wafted downstairs. He’d take them out to the yard during smoke breaks but wouldn’t walk them or clean up the yard unless I nagged him. When I did approach him about it he'd say that the smell was from him having night sweats...
I managed to find temporary foster homes for the dogs for six months, but they’re due to return soon. He promised to find a job during this time but hasn’t been looking, and I doubt he’s ready to work. He agrees to do things but then doesn't do them because he's overwhelmed or tired. He's always respectful and quiet, but he just never follows through on anything.
So, I told him the dogs can’t come back when the foster period ends. While I’m okay with him and his mom staying during tough times, I don’t think he can handle the dogs along with everything else.
Talking about this makes him very depressed. He internalizes his emotions and gets anxious when we discuss it, insisting his mental health has improved, which I haven’t seen. He says the dogs help his and his mom’s mental health. He insists that they are fine locked up in his room all day because all they do is snuggle with him all day and that's what they like, according to him.
Given everything else I’m responsible for and the things I've helped him with, like helping him get ID, find a doctor, drive him to appointments, and feed him, adding the dogs feels overwhelming. I feel like if he needs something he ultimately looks to me to help him, which I am trying to discourage. Bringing up the dogs makes him and his mom very anxious. She doesn’t understand why I don’t want the dogs here and gets angry, blaming him for the whole situation, which makes him more anxious and ashamed.
Do you think the boundary I’ve set is fair? I’m bringing it up now to give him enough time to find a solution in six months, but I’m worried he won’t make any progress, and I’ll end up stuck with the dogs again.

2024.05.28 20:44 IAmOutOfGoodNames My thoughts on my gaming addiction (Warning: Can be triggering)

Warning: This can trigger people with gaming addiction!....

Real life problems and struggles are so hard for me.
I just can't withstand the sweet happy feelings when playing games. It makes me immerge to a completely other reality and let me distract and forget everything from reality.
But when I stop, everything comes back and it feels awful. I hate it and I can't endure it.
Something inside me wants me to change and to abandon gaming, the other part drags me into this virtual world of happiness. I neglect almost everything in real life... Social life, jobsearching, food, cleanliness, health, appointments, responsibilities. I just want to play all the time and I don't want to stop. I keep fighting my fatigue when I didn't sleep and played the whole night because I want to keep playing.
Real life scares me and is so stressful. I think nothing is more enjoyable and distracting than gaming.
I imagine myself living a low-wage job with minimal effort so I can keep playing and enjoy this lifestyle.
It feels like a drug and I believe it's a drug, but it's so effective. Life sucks, many people of the world are taking drugs (e.x. cigarettes, alcohol, grass,....), my drug is gaming and less dangerous than the others.
Something inside me is telling me my lifestyle is wrong and I should stop immediately, but I hate to study, I hate to work, I hate going outside, I hate to talk with people face-to-face, I hate the need to be socially accepted. I hate the future when I stop gaming, but I also hate my current lifestyle, although I praised it a lot above.
I just want to have the feelings of happiness forever. I don't want to think about real life, but this lifestyle is not possible.
I don't know what to do. Both lifestyles have bad consequences for me.
Sorry I sound so depressing. 😔
Just my thoughts and I wanted to let it out. You don't need to comment. The answer is inside me and I need to find it.......

2024.05.28 19:12 mrdragonsalad 34 [M4A] Sweden - Lonely Swedish nerd looking for someone like-minded

The nerdy sides of my interests range from gaming, programming, computer hardware and science to DIY things like electronics and 3D printing. I know PC gaming is technically superior, but there's also a certain coziness factor with couch gaming that consoles enable :D.
I also enjoy walking, biking and running. Running I started with mainly for all the health benefits, both the mental aspects (trying to battle some anxiety), but also because I like to keep in physical shape. I just wish I had some more nature trails where I live. Cooking is another thing I enjoy.
As a person I'd describe myself as stable, analytical, very independent, quite introverted and a bit of a loner by choice. Hanging out with people I don't have much in common with or that I'm not close to can drain a lot of my energy. I'm a pretty big homebody and don’t mind spending time alone. I do miss having someone closer in my life though, as some things just are much better if you’re two.
I'm generally drawn to people similar to myself, both in terms of interests and personality. We seem to be quite a rare breed on traditional dating platforms, hence my post here ^^. To start out I like to just hang out and spend time on shared interests. Gender doesn't matter as I'm bi/pan. The ability to regularly meet IRL is important though, I’m not really looking for penpals from far away.
I'm also available in Swedish.

2024.05.28 17:34 Stoner420Eren Smoking inside the walls (Volume 35 "bad boy" mild spoiler)

On Paradis island, during the run of the main manga, we have never seen the habit of smoking tobacco/herbs or whatever substance. The first time we see a character smoking if I'm not wrong is Zeke after the eastern war at the beginning of the Marley arc. This led me to believe that smoking inside Paradis simply didn't exist because they didn't know it/have the resources to sustain it; I assumed that in the AOT world they had tobacco outside of Paradis, but Karl Fritz decided not to import it, I guess to not harm his people's health(?). I also found another old post on the matter that explained that it's very unlikely for Paradisians to waste space and resources for something not fundamental and as harmful as tobacco as they have to prioritize food plantations, especially after the fall.
Anyway, the reason I'm bringing back this old topic is because in the latest special chapter "bad boy" we saw the first depiction of smoking inside the walls. One of the guys that were beating Levi, the mind of the group, is seen smoking during the beating. This is even more weird because it's not even in Wall Sina or some place where you could assume rich nobles would be able to get whatever they want, this is some thug from the underground.
Anyway, we can make a stretch and an assumption that those thugs were probably tied with actual noble people involved in shady criminal activities, so they were probably some kind of underground mafia, which means it wouldn't be out of the world that they would be able to get expensive goods for them to consume, like cigarettes. We should also consider that Bad Boy takes place long before the fall of the Wall Maria, which means tobacco probably wasn't as rare and luxurious back then since most plantations would obviously be in Maria's territory. What I find surprising is that we had never seen cigarettes or similars in the wall society up until this special chapter.
I wouldn't consider Lost Girls because even if he approved it Isayama didn't write it, so we don't know if he would have written an Annie spin off that way if he were to. But yeah I would also mention that in Lost Girls Elliot Stratmann, a rich Wall Sina citizen, is seen smoking tobacco (and his daughter Carly as well). With this information we can simply assume that rich people do have access to tobacco, and we just never got to see it during the main manga, but it was never denied to exist either. If plantations for luxury goods such as high quality tea exist (source: a short story written by Isayama), then the same can be true for tobacco plantations.
Conclusion: tobacco or other smoking herbs exist in the Paradis island, but they aren't common consumer's products, they are expensive and rare.

2024.05.28 17:32 Master_Pangolin_9024 I need help

Ive been secretly drinking a pint of vodka almost everyday or every other day. I’ve had a few day stretches where I won’t drink but it’s been over two years with this nasty habit.
Everyday I say this is the day I stop and become the man I need to be for my family, but again I chug that pint of vodka for that buzz rush. I immediately go to the liquor store after work and get that pint. I lie to my wife and say I’d had beer tastings at work if I seem a little drunk. I honestly don’t know how she doesn’t know… which makes me even more scared. Also started smoking cigarettes again after 5 years.
I also had a severe opioid problem in my early twenties, which contributes to my chronic addiction patterns. I’ve been clean from them since 2013 but have using alcohol as a crutch since then. Nothing as bad as the last two years but always using alcohol as a way to numb my emotions.
I just need to stop. I need help. I want to live, not just exist. I feel so unbalanced. Tired of being sick and tired as the old gang used to say. Today I’m writing down my goals for the next six months and I’m Gonna slowly try and start a new chapter in my life.
Thank you to whoever reads this. I wish everyone peace in their own health journeys.

2024.05.28 16:00 Affectionate_Rule140 Registered nurse transition to healthcare data science

Hi everyone,
I’m a nurse currently taking Google’s Data Analytics Certificate program on Coursera. As part of the course, I’ve been learning SQL and practicing queries on BigQuery. My goal is to transition into a data analytics role within the healthcare field.
Recently, I spoke with my nurse manager about how analysis is performed at our medical center. She answered with a blank stare. All this documentation on health assessments, labs and vital signs for nothing?! We use Epic as our electronic medical record (EMR) system, but I’m not sure where all the data is actually stored and how to query it. Also which career is querying it? I dont see any job listings at my health system. for Rn data analyst?
Here are a few questions I have:
Where is data from Epic typically stored? Is it stored in a particular type of database or data warehouse? What language or tools are commonly used to perform queries on data from Epic? Since it’s not on BigQuery, I’m unsure if SQL is still applicable or if I need to learn a different language or tool. Are there any specific resources or courses you’d recommend for learning how to work with data in Epic? I appreciate any insights or guidance you can provide. Thanks in advance!
