2024.05.19 14:14 Temp_ThrowawayAc Hey I could use some advice on how to go about this

So a few years ago about 4-6 I can’t remember that well how long ago it was but I was pretty much a kid maybe in like the 8th grade but basically at that time I didn’t own any bike and my friend at the time gave me a bike he had for free because he had another bike he used as well and after a while of using it I passed it on to someone else but my worry now is that I don’t know if the bike could’ve been stolen or something cause I think that he used to do some sketchy things back then but I wasn’t sure at the time when he gave me the bike is there anyway I or the other person can get in trouble for this how should I proceed about this
Should I report to the police after so long or should I just donate it or take it to a junk yard or something

2024.05.19 14:11 ilyarepinstan I just miss him so much

I know I shouldn't. I know he treated me horribly and did horrible things to me.
But he was my best friend for almost a decade. He was always there, or if we were physically apart, always texting. It got quite bad in the last few months but before that things were good a lot of the time. Maybe he can change? He was better before. I just miss him. He should be here, in our house, with our dog. All the things I'm doing alone now I should be doing with him. I feel like I've made a huge mistake.
The police, friends, family -- they all encouraged me to report him, they all said how strong I was and how I was doing the right thing. But it's easy for them to say that and then go back to their lives and leave me with nothing. I'm all alone and I'm not getting enough support and I don't think I can do this.
When I told him I was considered leaving him he said I'd never survive. I asked him what he meant and he said he thought I'd unalive myself if I couldn't be with him. He always did know me better than anyone else. And I think he was right.

Hey guys! My boyfriend and I were in the VIP area at Kinetic and his phone was stolen out of his pocket, it happened so quickly we didn’t realise until it was too late :( It was early in the night, around 8:30pm. We’re planning to file a police report tomorrow, is there anything else we can do? Any advice would be appreciated! Stay safe out there - we assumed VIP would be safer but…

2024.05.19 13:42 domslashryan Software recommendations

Hi all, I'm a Crash investigator with a state police department in Australia. I've just completed a CCTV analysis course which is timely as I'm completing an analysis report into a crash, cross referencing telemetry and CDR data with Tesla on board camera stills as it passes objects to establish distance.
They recommended checking HashIDs to ensure the continuity of copies, but they didn't recommend any. Are there any programs anyone can recommend to generate a HashID for a video file? I've already got MediaInfo for other metadata.

2024.05.19 13:31 boyfriendbutts I own the title to my car, now what?

I own the title to my car, now what?
A little under 2 years ago, I was in an accident that totaled my car. The situation is a bit confusing, but I am going to try to describe what happened as best as I can. I live in the city and my daily parking space is on a two way street where each side has extra room for parallel parking. The accident occurred when I was leaving for work one morning. I was maneuvering my car to leave my parallel parking position, when I was hit by a person coming down the same side of the street. They hit my front left wheel causing the axel to snap completely. The person that hit me called 911 and then we proceeded to exchange insurance information. I was issued a ticket at the scene by the police officer and both of our cars were towed to what the officer referred to as the “police impound lot” I reported the accident to my insurance company, however I only have liability insurance, so they did not help cover the cost of the accident. I decided to go to my court date instead of paying the ticket. When I went in front of the judge, they dismissed my case for lack of evidence and I went home without a ticket. During this time almost 2 months had passed and I called the tow lot that the police had towed me to, to try to figure out what was going on with my car. I was told that I had to pay $2000 + to get my car out or it would be getting sold at auction. I did not have the money at the time to pay to get my totaled vehicle out of the tow lot or to fix it. I was also stuck with paying the rest of the loan I had taken out for my car, which was about $6500.
All in all I felt very stuck and had no clue what to do. So, I have just been biking around the city and to and from work for about two years now while the loan was getting paid off. Which, as of this month has been done successfully and I received the title to my totaled car in the mail the other day and…. I just don’t know what to do with it.
I have the title and a paid off loan, but I have no car still and am currently working on saving for a new vehicle. Do I just store the paper away with my documents? Do I shred it? What do it do?…..

2024.05.19 13:31 Tricky_University935 Humans disgusting act these days

Basically, I wasn't home when my parcel arrived. It arrived at around 2pm, but I was not in SG, so when I came home it was already 1am the next day. And I did not see my parcel outside my door, it was totally empty. I have also walked around that Storey to check but still, I could not find my parcel. It costs me more than $100, and I was extremely frustrated when I came to the conclusion that someone stole my parcel. I was anxious and I communicated with the delivery company at 1+am to ask for help. They kindly checked for me and confirmed that they had delivered the parcel and leave it beside my door with a picture taken. So, it was clear to me that someone probably leaving in this HDB has stolen my parcel. There is also another possibility that some random cleaners thought that it was garbage and threw it away. I personally went down to the trash site to check; I just couldn't be able to see trails of my parcel. Why would anyone touch someone else's thing??? Would humans nowadays just mind their own business and stop interfering with others' lives?? To the person who stole my parcel, do you have any sense of shame???? If really was the cleaner or anyone that treat it as garbage and threw it away, mind your business, okay? Don't act like a saint and think throwing away others' "garbage" is an act of kindness and thoughtfulness. Would y'all have some faith in us, humans, that we are able to manage our own garbage and you do not need to lend a hand to interfere. You are just making everything worst by doing things the way you think it should be. And I would really file a police report if I don't receive my parcel soon

2024.05.19 13:29 jayjay2597 Moving to germany

Hello, I am 16 living in Dubai and i plan on moving to germany by the time im 19. I want to study medicine there and if it is very suitable, i'll work a job at the hospital. I do have a lot of questions though that might not be answerable with research.
Living in Dubai, I'm very used to luxury, i'm not particularly rich, very middleclass but living in Dubai makes you feel very privileged and it's a blessing. I've never struggled here or had a tough time with anything, the most inconvenience would be traffic in the morning or filing a police report to get a windshield fixed. Genuinely this country is so convenient but obviously there are some downsides like the weather, and other things that you usually wouldn't find on a website doing research when moving here. Stuff you'd only figure out after living somewhere for a really long time, you know?
I also need gender care, and i know thats somewhat available in germany, but I'm not 100% sure about it. If someone could let me know or send links to informed websites that speak in detail about it, i would be very grateful.
I know education is free, but i feel like there's a catch...? i mean How..? could someone explain how that works and if the free universities are worse/better?
I also get stomach bugs whenever I travel abroad, even to my home country and I'm very careful about what i eat and drinking tap water and everything but I've never completed a stay at another country without becoming ill. even if it was a week long. I dont know about germany, i know the cold upsets my stomach, but are stomach bugs and food illnesses also common there? Could someone with the same experience clarify this? How must I handle it then?
Speaking of the cold, how manageable is it? I'm used to temperatures as high as 55 degrees and not much lower than 20 (unless it's december-february, then it might go as low as 12 degrees, but never ever further than that.) The average temprature throughout the day though is 35-45 from may to october. Even going to egypt, where temperatures are not much different is too much to handle. I know here every possible indoor place is air conditioned, and i guess heaters exist in cold places but i've never experienced cold weather or knew how people handle it, so can someone give me some insight? I know it's a weird ask but i genuinely wouldn't know.
I also would like to know about making friends, obviously i'll be older so how are people in their 20's? are they very sociable or very serious? what do you guys do for fun? How interested are people in making friends and being kind? I know people in Dubai are kind but making friends is very hard especially when you're an adult. I assume it would be harder to NOT make friends while i'm at Uni but from what I'm used to here... i'm not even going to my school prom because of how rude some people are, people here are honestly not very united in a way. Friend groups keep to themselves and rarely speak to anyone other than their close circles. So really how interested are young people in germany in making new friends and meeting new people?
Is gossiping big amongst young people? Here, people love to talk sh!t and joke about each other and i admit i do it often too but it gets exhausting being around people who dont know any better than to snicker about everyone else, I'm hoping people are a little more kind in germany..?
What about appliances and furniture and basic things needed for living, are those cheap? like fridges, microwaves, beds, etc. I obviously won't need the top appliances or best brands.
One last thing, how convenient is living there? like getting legal processes done, moving into an apartment, changing documents or visa renewals etc, are they quick or do they take several days?
I am honestly really excited to go, and i hope i'm able to. I've been thinking about medschool and germany since I was 13-14 and I just love the idea, my parents also love Germany since my dad lived there for a few years for work. They are not against the idea and i'm just very excited to go, I do yearn for some change after living in the UAE for 16 and a half years but it is soooo terrifying and I've never ever lived abroad before. My parents are scared that I can't do it and won't handle living alone so i guess i just wanna know what to prepare for. And aside from the questions i asked, what else do i need to know before going? I know i need to learn the language and basic terms like please and thank you, in order to not disrespect anyone, but what else is like a basic experience that every citizen goes through, that is unique to germany only? or european countries in general?
Any help or information would be soo appreciated thank you all.

2024.05.19 12:55 farts-are-funny-af Closure is near...feeling positive.

So, i've posted previously about whats going on with me and my WP, I haven't covered everything because there literally isn't enough time in the day to put it all down. I've had a rough couple of weeks, in that AP had reported me to the police for assault and it wasn't until last night that I was finally interviewed. It hasn't gone any further. Her preferred outcome to the investigation was an apology from me. Naturally I refused. But that chapter is now closed.
Also, earlier in the week I'd been in contact with OBS, and he pointed out that on a specific weekend that they were known to be together, they went on a trip. Which she had initally planned for him and her, but instead she took my WP and didn't even tell OBS that she wasn't taking him. I had suspected this and asked WP months ago and he denied it. But OBS had evidence to the contrary, so I showed it to WP.
He came clean and admitted that they went away to a hotel for the night. But I think he was a bit disturbed by how OBS had been treated and he'd been under the impression that the trip had been planned especially for him.
We're both feeling relieved that it's all drawing to a close. WP has asked me to now cut contact with OBS and I have agreed. I stayed in contact in case I needed him to act as a witness if the police took things further, but during an early convo with him, he alluded to he and I having an affair as perfect revenge and I had told WP about this because i am 100% transparent about everything. And it bothered him enough for him to ask me to cut contact.
I'm taking this as a positive as it is the exact response a normal partner should have.
Just wanted to share the positive vibes. I hope you are all doing well.

2024.05.19 12:48 Dinodog41 StLouisMO:After an illegal"self-help" eviction, should I pursue it in CIVIL or CRIMINAL court, & how collect on montary judgement if I win?

Hello: I am debating whether to take landlords to civil or criminal court. I don't know how to pursue a CRIMINAL case, and police tell me it's a "CIVIL courts matter".
I just did a civil court attempt, and the summons was sent by the summons dept at the civil courthouse by certified mail, but they did not respond, so the judge dismissed it and told me to get a lawyer and serve them by a sheriff or process server.
The court date was Aprl 8th, and on April 30th, the case info page stated the summons was sent back "return to sender".
Do you think that they saw it was from the court, did not open it, and that was somehow legal? The address was correct, and if the court said they were sending it certified mail, what I thought had to be a letter delivered i-person and signed for, was that legal?
If I pursue it as a CRIMINAL, regular court matter, do I need an attorney, and could the court appoint me one?
I was locked out of my apt, lost $ 1,000s, and landlord tried to attack me after I confronted them personally for the theft. They had also said for a month they'd let me back to retrieve my possessions, after first telling me they'd help me move, and stalled that for a month, then claimed that after 30 days of my things being at the apt, they magically became their property. AGAIN, I was LOCKED OUT, and spent a month expecting them to allow me to move my things. It was clearly a lied-about scheme.
I lost not just monetarily-costly things, but all my medicines, medical equipment, personal documents, family photos and heirlooms, work-related material when I did work, diplomas, , even my dead dog's ashes in an urn, etc.
They knew this, me BEGGING and PLEADING to be allowed in, and when I confronted them, they laughed and made a joke of it. I had lived there for almost a decade, not late on rent ever, and was being evicted "for mice" when they were there day-one, and being "messy".
Turned out, they were selling the bldg, and wanted me and my stuff out asap. They showed up the day before I was told i'd be evicted by email, demanding to take most of my possessions, and brought their truck w/ a trailer attatched.
They are extended family, and I was dealing with my nephew, we having what was a great relationship, so I trusted him when he asked if he could "use my keys" when I was on the way out of my apt to meet the landlord at the new apt. He told me we'd meet tomorrow to start moig my things, but that became a week, then month. It;s clear they ghosted me and then belieived 30 days meant I had sort of abandoed my stuff, when they locked me out and told me falsely that was the law.
What could I do? They refused to talk to me, and still do. The apt was cleaned out, so my things are gone, sold, in the trash, or furninshing their home.
My bro and I moved in 2014, and they ironically evicted him for stealing and doing drugs in 2016, and I was there until Nov of 2023.
I was only dealing with him, when his parents- the landlords- came to the apt three days after the stated eviction, and threatened me with retaliation and began banging and kicking on the door. I made a police report and sought help through the disability-related govt services.
IF I do a CIVIL case, and I win, as I'm pretty sure I would, I've read that it's my responsibility to follow up and make sure they pay the judgement. Is that true? I can easily see them not paying. I cannot afford an attorney, am disabled and on SS.
The REASON they were so ugly, doing what a regular, business-minded, non-family-related landlord would sink down to, was it was not just harmful but PERSONAL.
I have depression as well, and losing everything, including my relationship with my nephew, nearly put me over the edge. It took me nearly a month to even FIND an apt. I've sought therapy on-line to deal with it. I was in contact with a homeless shelter too, thinking i'd be homeless when no typical landlord would give a poor, broke, just-evicted, disabled person the time-of-day.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Last Week in Collapse: May 12-18, 2024
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter compiling some of the most important, timely, useful, soul-crushing, ironic, stunning, exhausting, or otherwise must-see/can’t-look-away moments in Collapse.
This is the 125th newsletter! You can find the May 5-11 edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.
——————————
Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acres—almost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. “Institutional failures” compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and “cold lava” killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand. Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile, an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page report last week about natural disasters in 2023—and how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in Türkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.
“Last year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsured….the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive year….annual insured losses will grow by 5–7% over the long term…today’s insured losses could double in 10 years….There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1–5 billion….Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...”
Flooding and heat waves are impacting Brazil’s oranges, responsible for about 70% of the world’s supply. One food analysts declared that the “era of cheap food is over”—in the UK, at least. That may be one reason why UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The Rhône River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerland’s remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam, lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, China’s lychee harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the world’s largest source of lychee. And, once again, Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen posted that, since “human-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,” the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a “large anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere” responsible for rising temperatures there. CO2 levels are rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 years…and a study of millennia-old trees determined last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ years…
Record nighttime May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states saw more records drop. And Toronto saw a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has returned to Bangladesh. Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A comparative study in Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
It’s that time of the year again. Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sands—forcing thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nation’s blazes are “out of control,” resulting in air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean, water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has declared a water emergency. In Myanmar, water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least ⅛ of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme flooding—so says a 175-page report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.
“Europe has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperatures….permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern Europe….since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditions….Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawing….Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding event….Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clear…” -selections from the report
Milan suffered flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim “global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than local temperature” and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.
——————————
Epidemiologists are worried about how climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are 50% higher than in 2000—though researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawai’i, 75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024 World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants; another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.
“The last two years saw major migration and displacement events that have caused great hardship and trauma, as well as loss of life….There have also been large-scale displacements triggered by climate- and weather-related disasters in many parts of the world in 2022 and 2023, including in Pakistan, the Philippines, China, India, Bangladesh, Brazil and Colombia….disinformation tactics are increasingly being used by nefarious actors with negative impacts on public, political and social media discourse on migration….Forced displacement is the highest on record in the modern era…overconsumption and overproduction linked to unsustainable economic growth, resource depletion and biodiversity collapse, as well as ongoing climate change (including global heating) are continuing to grip the world….the risk of further conflict has not been higher in decades, as military spending reached a new record high of USD 2,240 billion in 2022…” -excerpts from the introduction
Another report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analyses—with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.
“Conflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 years….Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacement….Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in Somalia….Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in Ethiopia….Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after Sudan….nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods empty….Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacements….” -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
Experts are concerned about the mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe “Peak China” may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy. Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page report on potential climate risks to the banking system’s resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced an outbreak of Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of monkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolina’s Senate voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they “had significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failure….even two years after recovering.” Experts say a summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). The study also found that precipitation is the primary means by which the Lakes are accumulating PFAS, since the chemicals are small & stable enough to move through the water cycle. Meanwhile, in England’s Lake District, a telecom failure resulted in raw sewage being pumped into England’s largest and most famous lake, Windermere, on-and-off for 10 hours; and a major British water CEO took a $4M USD pay package last year. And a look into the Chicago River’s health found that microplastics & trash are endangering health & biodiversity.

-Brazil’s flooding was really, really bad, judging from this post and its accompanying images. Across just one of Brazil’s 26 states, 600,000+ people have been made homeless, 100+ have died, and the storm season isn’t over yet. Some of the flooding isn’t expected to subside for another month.
-How specifically might climate change make humanity extinct? This thread crowdsources a number of plausible ways, from ordinary famines to nuclear war and even a massive deoxygenation process. I tend to think it will be a consequence of an eventual nuclear exchange, followed by extended famine and disease.

2024.05.19 12:16 No_Pomegranate7134 You're a bounty hunter, this time you are assigned to assassinate a dictator, but in doing so triggers a world war resulting in your country getting invaded then nuked at the end. Would you really do it?

A high ranking politician who defected against the regime will offer you a large sum of money since they know you are a bounty hunter, but you have to complete this objective:
Assassinate the dictator they assigned. (But do not deny a world war will happen!)
You can't assassinate or steal the reward from the individual who assigned the objective to you as they are government officials and work for organizations akin to the CIA, you'll be listed as an international fugitive for their murder and theft. You can't call the police on these people due to their political affiliation and connections, so they can't really be arrested the same way how normal criminals can.
Disappearing out of thin air, won't really do anything, no matter how many fake identities you create, you cannot really fake your own blood, spit or other DNA for that matter, as that clandestine organization has far more advanced resources to trace your whereabouts no matter where you are in the world without you even realizing it, can you really compete against them as a lone bounty hunter?
Conditions to be met from their end:
Risks to consider:
Let's say you managed to enter their soil covertly, without being seen, but carrying their objective is difficult due to the heavy presence of security surrounding a politician influential and powerful like Kim Jong Un or Putin.
If you are caught assassinating their leader, it is on you with a war now being declared, you will be considered a political prisoner and be subjected to severe torture. (You will now be considered their enemy, trapped in a brutal regime where your government has no jurisdiction.)
If you managed to evade detection, even though they did not know it was you, they will still consider it an act of war as you have killed their leader. (You returned home, but there is news about your actions and 100% a world war.)
Consider the severe implications for doing so:
Complied with the order Recanted the order given
You opted to assassinate the dictator, but you are bound to be met for a declaration of war to your country and allies. You decided not to follow through, as you are aware of an incoming war for doing so, everybody remains neutral.
Following that, the regime is pissed off, resulting in the occurence of a world war. Nothing really happens, but the dictator remains alive, but everybody is safe.
Bloodshed occurs, resulting in many deaths, you receive money but your family including others are killed due to the war going on. You receive no monetary reward, instead you are reprimanded for refusing the order (sent to prison too), as you considered humanity.
You cannot call the police in this situation, as the enemy troops are invading your country, continous bloodshed escalates. You remain at peace, with nothing horrid happening, even though you received no reward, deciding to not start a conflict.
It is not just your country being invaded, along with other nations too being affected by your actions, you are easy prey to these people, they are dangerous. You have nothing to worry about, as there is no target on your back, since you did not do anything to provoke the regime, everyone is unaffected due to no war.
Eventually a nuclear warhead is used, decimating most of the population with a high chance you will die, or barely survive. There is no looming threat, like mentioned, you did nothing. You have a moral compass to spare everybody from a looming catastrophe.
If you survived the explosion, be ready to adjust to living in an environment akin to fallout, everything around you is contaminated. Everything remains as it is, nothing is destroyed as you and the rest of humanity remain at peace, since you refused the order, but stuck in prison.
The world has completely changed following the usage of a nuclear warhead, but the explosion is worse than in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. The world remains at tranqulity, as in no one dies from a nuclear fallout, everybody lives in harmony, you are in prison but your relatives and others can live without worry.
In saying that: (Which one is more important, based on the outcomes for each?)

2024.05.19 11:53 Advanced_Vehicle_636 Victim of Hit & Run - Sydney NSW

Hey Folks,
Thought I'd post here and get an opinion. I took my bike over to Westfield in Parramatta to pick up some basic supplies to make dinner. I arrived around 4:15PM (May 19th) and parked within the white lines of a parking bay. 30 minutes later I went back to the bike getting ready to leave. The first thing I noticed was my helmet had been moved from my footpeg to my seat. I figured maybe the person next to me had moved it to get a trolley around. No big deal.
Then I noticed my mirror was on the ground. OK, maybe a little bit of rage from having to move a helmet? Uncalled for, but a relatively minor fix. As I moved around to pick the mirror up and inspect the damage (mirror had been sheared off at the base), I noticed my signal lights and muffler were pushed in. Less rage, more of an accident. Then I noticed my plate was bent in and the default fairing kit holding the plate had been almost completely broken off. They were nice enough to pick the bike up though, which left me a little baffled.
I sought mall security to see if they had video cameras in the area. They said they didn't beyond the ones tracking license plates in/out of the garage. They offered to give me an incident report, which I declined. (Two of the guards walked down to the bike with me to see where it was/damage)
I debated calling the non-emergency line, but figured between no cameras, the (relatively) minor cosmetic damage (I rode the bike home after zip-tying the plate and fairing on), and lack of injuries or a party to report, that it would likely be a waste of my time. (Slow response/lack of interest in a minor crash.) FWIW: I doubt I'll go through insurance, short of Kawasaki telling me it'll be thousands to fix. I do have full coverage in addition to government CTP, if needed.
Is this worth making a report to the Police? I live in Parramatta, so heading to the NSW Police HQ is only a few minutes' walk for me.
TLDR: Someone likely backed into my bike in a car park at Westfield. Decided to run instead of taking ownership of the mistake. Broke some fairings, mirror, and bent my muffler. No injuries. Worth reporting this to the police in case they have more pull with Westfield Security / Westfield Security lied about not having cameras?

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/police-stop-report-just-eat-090316785.html An interesting story about a delivery rider who in my view was taking the piss, got stopped and then the social media of the police force that stopped him decided to take the piss in return with their brilliantly hilarious punnery. This kind of thing gives all riders a bad name, hopefully he had a legitimate reason for not having his chain on and throttling around, but I doubt it...

How to Avoid Rental Scams: A Comprehensive Guide for Renters

Getting around the market can pose challenges with the rise in rental scams. It's vital to safeguard yourself against these tactics. This manual offers advice to help you spot and evade scams ensuring a secure and worry free renting journey.

Avoid Wiring Money or Using Cash/Gift Cards

A rule in renting is to steer clear of wiring money or paying with cash or gift cards before inspecting the rental property. Legitimate landlords won't request payment until you've toured the place and signed a lease agreement. Always opt for traceable payment methods.

Confirm the Landlords Identity and Property Ownership

Before finalizing a deal authenticate that the landlord is genuine and indeed owns the property by following these steps;
Look Up Address Online; Check if the property address matches the listing and watch out for any warning signs. Review Public Records; Verify property ownership through records typically accessible online, via government sites. Request Documentation; Ask for documents proving the landlords ownership of the property.
If you suspect that you've come across a scam make sure to report it to the authorities;
Federal Trade Commission (FTC); Lodge a complaint online. Local Law Enforcement; Reach out to your police department. Inform them about the fraud. Rental Platforms; Notify the website where the listing was posted to safeguard other potential renters.
By adhering to these suggestions you can greatly minimize the chances of falling prey to rental scams. Always verify ownership demand a lease agreement inspect properties before making any payments and be cautious of prices and unverified intermediaries.
