2024.05.19 06:55 Keepmakingaccounts Ambient memory usage is at 50%, a few tabs and YouTube bumps it up to 75%. Slim 7

My first Lenovo laptop was very efficient until my dog murdered it, so I went with Lenovo again. slim 7 14irp8. This one was cheaper, and so seems to have some minor technical issues. ...well kinda major if I really think about it.
The poor thing acts like I'm running the sims 4 with a few tabs open. and YouTube especially drains it a lot. it seems like the battery charge doesn't last long at all (2 hrs with YouTube, and 1 playing a game) and often my screen will go black for a few seconds. I followed the tedious troubleshooting guide, but it doesn't seem to have anything wrong.
After that fail I was like whatever I'll just suck it up. But today it seriously sounded like a helicopter and got really hot with just YouTube and some tabs open. I wasn't even on it, I was just using the video for background noise so it was kinda scary when I realized. I even opened task manager thinking something must be opened in the background but nope just chrome, a little steam, and all the ambient stuff it does.
I use this tablet for my schoolwork, writing, some games (not strenuous), streaming and some art stuff.
School includes r, Python, ARcgis. In my experience, r and ARcgis have normal functionality. Freeze up sometimes but that's b/c of the machine 'learning'. Have yet to figure out how to use Python 😵‍💫. Writing is just Google docs, which does lag. Games lag sometimes but it's a laptop 🤷‍♀️, streaming is fine (just hulu in browser), art stuff is Krita and maybe csp.
It works fine with my portable monitor, except for an increase in screen flickering.
I still have 9 months on the warranty but would the warranty even cover minor annoyances like these. My only concern is that as my work gets more advanced the computational power needed is going to increase and if YouTube can get it to 75% memory usage and over heating, what will a machine learning algorithm do 😭😭😭
Should I change browsers? Will it matter if I'm still using Google sites anyway? My school is a Google school too. So it's better to use chrome...
Is it n normal for half the memory to be taken up by the ambient process and I just didn't notice on my last laptop?
I'm not like an expert on laptops or anything, so I picked a brand I liked that happened to be on sale... Kinda regretting it now. Next time I'll have to suck it up and get an expensive one, but I think buying a lemon in that case would be even worse.

Hi everyone. This is my first War game of the series, I don't know why I didn't hear about it before. I have like 8 hours at the moment and enjoying my time with it.
Just wanted to share how cool this helicopter looks. What I would also like though is a visual representation of the ammo the weapon uses, I'm not particularly versed in this sense and it could save me a minute of searching it with wikipedia.
Still, a fantastic game! Can't wait for the full release and gold edition.

For most games, combat helicopters are generally considered to be 'S' tier in rank, but Drake isn't good with them. Is it best to avoid them when playing as Drake?

2024.05.19 04:02 Awesome_Bronana War of the Monsters Advanced Techniques

I remember the first time I played War of the Monsters on the PS2 was when my dad brought home a copy of the game and played with me and my siblings. I grew up watching monster movies and instantly loved this game. It has been 20 years since I have first played this, I decided to write this guide in advanced tricks and techniques that I have developed from my experiences playing this game. I hope you enjoy this read and that It increases your appreciation of this hidden gem.
There are many guides online that cover combos, tactics, item placements, boss guides, level guides, cheats, etc. This is not one of those. This will cover more niche and advanced techniques that you can use to enhance your capability in your gameplay.
This guide will be written with the assumption that the control scheme is set at control 'B' which you can set in the pause screen during a game. (I think most people have it set at 'A') It shouldn't effect how these techniques function but something to keep in mind.
This is a work in progress and I will edit this thread as I come across new info and insights into the game.
Glossary: Movement Special Attacks Rage Utility Map Awareness Advanced Combat
\\\\MOVEMENT////////
The monsters in the game have varying movement speeds (running, climbing), jump heights, and flying speeds. However even with the slowest monster you can work around the lack of speed with enough practice utilizing the following methods and the environment to your advantage. Little is more scary than a slow monster like Agamo zooming around your foes mwahaha!
The Dashing Mechanic<<<
As listed in the instruction manual, this allows your monster to sprint at the cost of energy by double-tapping and holding the foward button until expended or pressing the ram button.
Launching<<< You can use the ram button to launch yourself off buildings, ramps, and rock formations to get extra height quickly (a mechanic that the mini game 'Big Shot' is soley based around).
This is particularly useful in maps like baytown where theres a lot of verticality in the environment.
Super Fast Flying<<< This ram mechanic is especially useful for flying monsters like Preytor and Raptros. Executing the dash-ram in conjunction with holding 'x' right after ramming while on the edge of a building or flat surface will result in a blisteringly fast flight speed that gives you better movement and height. Preytor is super fast with this method while Raptros has better airtime and control, though the speed difference is minor. Raptros is my prefrence due to the better airtime, control, and Projectile damage.
Firing projectiles while flying<<< Raptros and Preytor both have the ability to capitalize on their aerial advantage by firing projectiles mid glide. You can accomplish this by performing the glide holding X and while holding glide tap the □ button to fire. This takes energy though so maintaining altitude is key. the most effecient way to do this is to execute the dash>ram>fly combo to get extra speed, glide up over your opponent and lock-on to them to spin like a vulture firing down on your target.
Lock-On Steering<<< You may notice that while dashing, your ability to steer your monster is stiff. This technique will allow you to navigate around all those tight corners on a dime while dashing! This is more tricky to execute because it is depenent on where your opponents are located around you. This is indicated on the HUD as these numbered circles that show the health status of your opponents.
While sprinting using the dash, hold the lock-on button to force your monster to take a tight turn in the direction of the closest target. This is great for adjusting after missing your target.
For simply turning tight corners, simply tap the lock-on button instead while the opponents icons are on the side you want to turn.
There is a brief charge up before a dash, if you time your lock on just before the dash activates, you can pull up to a sharp 180 degree turn on your opponent if you missed the first dash-ram.
There is some wiggle room in the timing to play around with and practice your navigation using this technique.
Building Hopping<<< Every monster has different climbing speeds, some are fast like Kineniclops and Preytor, some are slow such as Agamo and Togera.
Building Hopping is the simple action of jumping while climbing a building. Repeating this cycle of (jump+grab+jump+grab+jump) will do two things:
  1. It will add more speed to slower monsters climbing
  2. It will reduce your contact to the building by about 80% and greatly reduce the chance of getting knocked down when an opponent is throwing projectiles.
\\\\SPECIAL ATTACKS////////
Every monster has two special attacks at their disposal under two categories; Close range and Long range. This chapter will cover the expansive utility of both types.
Short Range Special<<< Despite the differences in the vibrant animations, all monsters share the short range special attack in common. The only difference between them as far as I can ascertain Is the the time it takes to start up the blast (Ultra V being almost instant and zorgulon Taking 1.5 seconds). The purposes most common is to give yourself space when surrounded or cornered, and to have a quick and strong offense to your opponent knocking them down. However there is more utility in this attack when you think of this as a defensive move.
Invincibility Frames<<< The short range special attack gives you about 2-3 seconds of invincibility frames meaning almost nothing can damage you aside from falling buildings. This is excellent as a defense against thrown objects, explosives, lightning, short and long range special attacks, and environmental hazards.
Long Range Special<<< Every monster has a unique long range special attack that has different effects and ranges. There is more nuance in how you can utilize these attacks, so I will cover each monsters long range special individually so you can make the most out of these attacks:
  1. Raptros' Fire Breath Raptros has a unique advantage in regards to how he uses this attack. He can activate it on the ground AND while mid-flight. Additionally, he can fire his projectiles while using his fire breath to squeeze in extra damage (There is a weird glitch where doing this turns the flame invisible, but the effect is still active). This also hinders opponents and catches them on fire.
  2. Togera's Atomic Breath Similar to 'Raptros's Fire Breath' Togera's Breath has similar range and hinders opponents. The difference is that it deals more damage. You can also fire his projectiles while using his breath for pretty nasty damage.
  3. Preytor's Flying Leeches Leechs not very damaging by itself, it is a decent threat if you can manage to chain up multiple specials around the map. (Ex. In Metro City there are multiple red orbs, 50% energy, around the buildings and streets where you can chain at least 3 leeches). There are two minor benefits from the leeches: A. It gives the opponent something else to target or focus on A.I. or human B. Can't be blocked unless intercepted by thrown object or shot projectile, or using a special attack, thus resulting in multiplying damage stacks if chained. You can also spread the leeches out by locking on different targets while sending them.
*This Special attack is really best used in situations where the opponent won't have time to stop all of the leaches (preferabally up close) followed up with your own projectiles or thrown objects or follow up advances.
  1. Congar's Sonic Roar Similar range to Raptros and Togera's Breaths, and Considerable damage and launches opponents far. It can reach through some buildings for full effect. You can also tilt congars head around to spread the roar around to get a wider spread. Opponent can block this attack or counter with a short range special.
  2. Robo-47's Atomic Missile The most immediately damaging special in the game by far. It also launches opponents far like congars roar. It is very versatile at close range and long range. You can choose to fire quickly or wait to lock on the target for a more likely hit. You can tilt his head down to shoot the ground for a damaging 'short range' blast. You can also cancel the missile by pressing the block button for later use. It cannot be blocked unless opponent uses short range special or dodges.
  3. Agamo's Head This special is unique in it can be used to farm for more energy considerably fast while weilding it, which in turn stocks you with an additional special when you are ready for the next head or short range attack. Creating an efficient cycle of banking more special attacks. It is damaging and knocks opponents down upon a confirmed hit. It also can be used as a bomb by pressing the long range special button a second time. This isnt great for throwing at enemies from a distance as an explosive, launching opponents. The head when thrown is also super bouncy and ricochets damaging buildings and knocking down opponents all the while gaining you energy.
  4. Magmo's Eruption This special launches a barrage of fireballs at an opponent and juggles them into the air with good damage followed up with some decent fall damage. This can be paired with a second erruption when chaining with a second special pickup on the map. You can tilt magmo's head up first before locking on an opponent to send the fireballs over obstacles and tyen lock on to your opponent have a better chance to reach them.
  5. Kineticlops's Lightning storm This is great for crowd control and anti-air with good range. The storm electricutes all nearby monsters in range and launches them upward. This is nice for discouraging flying enemies. You can also flick the lighting up and down for flavor just to show off but it won't do much damage.
*Its also nice using this special following a one-two combo of shocking an opponent with a power generator and throwing for a double shock.
  1. Zorgulon's UFO Swarm Arguably the weakest of the long range specials, but it is still is fun to use and can be used in creative ways. If you lock-on a target while executing this special (provided they are not behind cover) you will fire this device that hover above the target that calls in ufos to harrass the opponent. The damage is varied based on how many shots are managed by the ufos and when the device is destroyed. There is a charge on the device that when run out releases the ufos and ends the special. This can be shortened if you damage them in any way. Another use is to place them in an area of interest, such as locations with resources like health, energy, or powerups. It is more defensive and punishes opponents for going where you don't want them to go. You can also grab these ufos for a weapon to attack with, gaining more energy or even fire their lasers at the opponent. while not practical is fun.
  2. Ultra V's Grapple Cable This special does minor damage but can grab and pull an opponent across the map to you and stuns the enemy for a few seconds. This can be really nasty since it allows you options to set up a combo, launch them with a 360 kick, pull them into environmental hazards (bottomless pits, radioactive waste, powerlines, steam, tsunamis, falling buildings). It can be use up close for an easy stun or to take opponents away from reaching resources such as Health, Energy, or powerups. At long ranges it is best used at highground where line of sight is less blocked by obstacles. You can also send the grapple while holding any object for extra damage. The fan favorite method is to use explosives (gasoline truck, airplanes, fuel tanks) for an explosive combo! even if you miss with the grapple the impact of the explosive will hit the opponent if close enough. You can also use the grapple to damage buildings to knock opponents off the walls.
\\\\Rage Utility//////// Rage is an interesting mechanic that I think some people overlook as not that useful. It Is available once you collect enough energy that you energy bar flashes, and makes it so your following actions are more effiecient than standard usage. Instead of your energy being used up quickly it is unlimited until the rage runs out. I have not tested if Rage increases your damage output. I have focused this as more a tool for various tactics I came up with.
sprinting with rage<<< using the dash usually expends energy really fast. however with Rage, you can extend the time you can continue you sprint significantly. you can Also dash-ram infinitely until expended, which is scary when used in conjunction with the lock-on steering technique.
Firing projectiles with rage<<< Every monster has projectiles that have unique behaviors, have varying damage and cost. Every monster in general benefits from using rage to shoot more projectiles, the difference is in how you position yourself to shoot them effectively.
Flying monsters can use this to fire even more projectiles while in mid-flight without worrying about losing stamina, the unlimited energy also gives room to reposition the monster if more altitude is needed the damage is also decent from both of them.
Robots like Robo-47 and Ultra V have similar projectiles that pepper small damage but are very rapid. The faster you mash the □ button, the faster the firing rate. when using rage you can catch opponents with little cover and barrage them with a volley of lasers/bullets.
Kineniclops's projectile is unique that it is the slowest but has the most heat seeking property. You can shoot a lot with little cost and it deals decent damage especially if you can land multiple hits with them. with rage you can create an army of these lightning balls at some highground or running and jumping approaching them from different angles makes it hard for them to avoid the stacks in damage.
\\\\Map Awareness//////// This section will cover Map awareness and how to take advantage of the abundant resources in your game. knowing the layout of the map as well as intimately knowing the placement and respawn time of your resources will aid you so much in how you decide to approach the following setups we are about to cover here.
Resources<<< Resources are defined as anything on the map you can pick up that aids you (Health, Energy, Powerups, Items). The location of Health, Energy, and powerups on each map is static, though consistent and respawn after a period of time. Items However can both be static (pieces of a building, rocks, water towers) and dynamic (moving items like cars, helicopters, trains).
chaining resources<<< This is a series of actions that utilizes multiple resources for a desired outcome. (ex. gaining health/energy/damage).
For example, chaining a power transformer lightning bolt+throwing the transformer+radio tower spear impale+gasoline truck = a chain resulting in big damage to your opponent there are many combinations you can chain together with items its devistating when you know exactly when and where an item will be so you can in rapid succession throw items to juggle them from a distance.
chaining specials<<< For example, it is possible to set oneself up to use at least three specials in succesion easily in a map such as atomic island where the reactor in the center can recharge your special rapidly. Think of the possibilities with this alone, thats 3 to 4 flying leechs from preytor at once, 3-4 nuke missiles from robo- 47 and so on. Other maps have instances where if you have a special in stock you can position yourself next to another red orb or 50-100% energy and use a special of your choice and follow it up with an additional special that you subsequentally grab.
\\\\Advanced Combat//////// There are guides out there that cover the specific combos you can pull in sequence and I have a few quick tips to increase your combos, and increase your lethality.
Combo canceling<<< Each monster has varying speeds in execution and amount of hits they cam perform before they end with a launching strike. What I suggest when pursuing higher combos is to simply tap the block button before the launch. Speed is key here so results may vary. such as congar who is more combo focused with fast punches. You can unleash a lot of hits and tap the block button, the follow up with more hits. there is a chance that the opponent will have time to block so it takes practice.

2024.05.19 03:03 realrecycledstar "Lord of the Wings" was my last Clutch Nixon mission.

..Out of ALL THE ONES in the game.
-AND I BEAT IT. CLUTCH NIXON? MORE LIKE CLUTCH DICKSON. THIS WAS THE WORST CHALLENGE EVER, CONTROLS WERE BEYOND AWFUL FOR XBOX, AND IT TOOK ME LIKE 80 TRIES AND SEVERAL DAYS.
Here are some tips :)
I also attached a video for reference.
What worked for me may not work for everyone, but hopefully this makes things easier.
  1. DON'T AIM FOR THE MIDDLE OF THE RINGS.
-If you're too high, aim for the top bit, and fly over the terrain. If you're too low, aim for the lowest bit of the ring, and be prepared for some tight turns.
  1. Better yet, DON'T AIM FOR SOME OF THE RINGS AT ALL!
-I'm 98.9% certain that whoever made this placed some rings in unstable places just to screw you over. Take note of your time, but also take note of the rings that you really don't need to aim for.
  1. If you fly planes the most, invert your wingsuit axis on the game's settings. If you drive/boat/fly helicopters the most, keep the normal settings.
-I kept reading comments on this particular mission about how the inverted wingsuit axis screwed them over, so I tried to fly with the normal axis.
-Never again. Couldn't even make it past the first turn.
-I'm used to flying FC5's planes because I'm obsessed with them, so using the inverted axis and attempting to control my direction in accordance with the wind speed got me a lot farther. If you're used to helicopters, trucks, boats, and various other non-inverted controls, though, stick to that in this mission. Here's some instructions on how to change the wingsuit axis settings:
  1. Options
  2. Controls
  3. On Foot
  4. Invert Wingsuit Pitch
  1. PRETEND YOU'RE IN A PLANE/HELICOPTER
-I seriously think that the only reason I beat this stupid mission was because I imagined the nose of the plane was going through the rings instead of my character. Once I realized that the wingsuit's controls were very similar, if not exactly like the plane's controls, I quickly got the hang of things. Instead of imagining that your character is going through the hoops, imagine that you're flying a plane or helicopter instead.
  1. Take breaks. :)
-Rage quit the game a couple of times. It's healthy, as long as you don't throw your controller at the TV/wall or scream at someone in the process. Taking breaks is also healthy. Don't strain your eyes and hurt yourself over some dev's evil work. Lay in bed. Contemplate your life. Cry about having to work tomorrow. Grab a drink.
-Speaking of grabbing a drink...
  1. GET A DRINK. YOU'LL NEED ONE.
-I'm being so fr. If you're 21+, drink a SMALL something if you're attempting this challenge. It'll calm your nerves (hopefully) and open your mind to more ways to complete this godforsaken, ridiculous, poorly controlled challenge. I'm pretty sure that I completed this after shooting down some butterscotch whiskey.
-If you don't want to drink or know that you shouldn't, grab some milk or water instead. Keep those bones and that mind strong. They have to be. Plus, all you really need is something refreshing and hydrating after wasting hours sweating, staring, and sobbing because you couldn't complete this mission after the 27th try.
  1. TURN THE VOLUME OFF
👆🤓 "A death maze of trees and rocks is coming up!"
👆🤓 "It's going to be tight quarters in a moment. Let's hope they make it!"
-MISS ME WITH THAT ANXIETY-INDUCING BS. YOU KNOW HOW I BEAT THIS MISSION?
-I completely ignored the man by muting the game volume on my TV, and then proceeded to listen to The Regulator by Clutch at full volume and on repeat. It has dark lyrics, but the track itself sounds pretty badass. Better than listening to that stupid narrator yapping about the challenge that he has yet to take on.
-I might edit this and add more if I can think of anything else, but this is all I have at the moment.
-Godspeed, fake stuntsmen.
-Godspeed.

2024.05.19 01:44 amdrke [PC] [Mid/late 90s] First person attack helicopter game/sim

Hi everyone
I used to play this attack helicopter game in the mid to late 90s on my dads pc. It was a game in cockpit view, it was definitely 3D, and what I remember from it most was a level that was probably the first one (which was quite difficult I guess) that played off in the mountains of I think Nevada/Colorada/Rocky Mountains.
The colour palette of that level was for sure quite reddish/orange.
I know, not much to go on. I looked at stuff like Comanche but I dont think theres a winner there. Love to see some names I can take a look at :)
Thanks!

2024.05.18 23:06 ExtensionAd3251 Is there anything less rewarding than playing dumbfire rocket helis?

First of all - I love helis. I fly in every game, I've got a ton of hours in Elite Dangerous, Take on Helicopters, Arma etc etc. But holy fuck playing helis in this game is just miserable.
Getting one or more kills is pretty brainless in a CAS jet. I'm a terrible jet pilot, and even I can do it.
Getting kills in tanks is also easy, as long as you have some ground RB experience and know the maps.
Getting 1 kill in a rocket pod heli? You just turned the game up to level "Veteran +++ - you will not survive".
This is how 95% of gameplay goes:
As much as I love flying, there is just no point in these helis, in fact you are actively throwing away your SP and hurting your team.
Is it possible to kill things in a rocket pod heli... Yes of course. G-Lynx is probably the best or rather "least shit" for this because of its insane agility (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8LR7ViqncU - Bruce is also top 0.01% pilot so there is that).
Gaijin could increase the kill and RP reward by x20 for dumbfire rocket kills and it still wouldn't feel good.

2024.05.18 22:40 Tom_GP Some (Spoiler Free) gripes about Puppet Shows and Shadow Plays

I'm running Puppet Shows and Shadow Plays for the first time and, while I like the module and I think it's going to turn out fun, I've had some issues with parts of it that I wanted to share.
I'd like to preface this by saying that it's a cool scenario, the updated version is an improvement over the original, all of the problems are arguably a matter of opinion, and most of them can be easily fixed.
Lack of meaningful description
What's San Carlos like?
What does the tribal police station, or the medical facility, or the ranch look like?
I don't want block text to read, I just want a few phrases and enough detail for me to sketch the place for the players. (Floor plans would be better, but hey)
Another one where the fix is for me to GM prep, but I paid for a module so I wouldn't have to do too much of that.
This great collection of additional resources (handouts, descriptions of the reservation and key locations) shared by u/kinnygraham in this comment on another thread has been vital for helping me imagine the town.
Rolling for clues
Every other DG RPG module I've read has had most clues based on having 40/50/60 in a skill, but in PSSP (even the updated version) you still need to roll for everything for some reason. I ended up giving my players a lot of clues but they did the right stuff with the right skills and only made them roll when there were bonus clues that would make them look cool.
It's not a major gripe, but it would have been nice to see the updated module make use of the new tech.
Weird Railroady Moments
My least favourite moment in an RPG product is when the author tells you something like "players / a particular NPC, often the antagonist, can't die right here" which sucks IMO, and there's at least one in Puppet Shows. The way I see it, the PCs are largely stripped of power an autonomy by the premise of the game, so taking more power away with set plot-pieces feels cruel and off-genre. That's just me, though.
Not hard to fix, but a real pet peave of mine. I'd be interested to hear about how everyone else feels about this.
Why would I get to the chopper?
This section verges on a spoiler but honestly I wouldn't care if any my players had read this before we played
There's also a moment when the module lays out what happens if the players ask to use the State Police helicopters. I have no idea why any FBI agent whose been asked to assist the state police would push to use their equipment or barge their way into their side of the operation. I had the major mention he wouldn't mind having them along, but really I should have just made the helicopters an FBI asset at their disposal and mentioned that during the FBI briefing, but actually having them go up in a chopper to see a car and come back down is just not that fun.
Not a major issue, because the State Police can share info with the agents, but still it creates a situation where the evidence and briefing at the opening of the module only really gives one lead (the ranch) to go off and chase.

2024.05.18 21:41 Slep1k Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (How would you rate this game?)

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (How would you rate this game?)
This is my experience with the story mode. Keep in mind that it differs from person to person and you shouldn’t compare yours with that of the others. ⬇️
💟 (Phenomenal) ✅ (Very Good) ✴️ (Good) ⛔️ (Bad)
STORY 💟
Storytelling 💟 - Starting with the low life gangsters and rising to the top of the world, just to be reminded where you came from. - Each mission has its own storyline, be it a simple job, a date, a well planed heist or a complex robbery. - Tenpenny vs CJ was a good battle, way too stretched and way too one sided though. Only the final mission had the chips turned upside down. - The Driver game by Reflections was played by nearly everyone during some cutscenes, funny how all of them sucked at it, myself included.
Characters 💟 - CJ was a good character. Way too vulnerable in my opinion. Everyone from the start of the game was pushing him around, using him, not taking him seriously, and what’s even worse, even by the end, I didn’t feel any power emanating from him. - Tenpenny and Samuel L. Jackson’s performance made this game a thousand times better. The lines, calmness, just two fucks given, a real motherfucker! - Catalina and Claude, yeah, Claude from GTA III made a cool presentation of how crazy women can be. She kept calling CJ throughout the game and expressing her love in a weird manner. - Sweet was a dumb fool. Having an opportunity to get out of the hood and live the life, he chose to stay within it and remain a low life, dragging everyone with him. - Big smoke was all talk and didn’t appear on screen for too long, which was a good thing. His whole part in this game was very confusing and didn’t provide any meaningful input. - Woozie was my favourite. Even when blind, he always knew that whichever path he followed, it would lead him to HIS destination.
Setting 💟 - The whole California vibe was incredible. - Starting with the low life hoods, then moving towards the unknown forests, deserts, and finally reaching the big city with all the casinos. - Los Santos was super detailed and didn’t lack any of its vibe.
Pacing ✴️ - Somewhat good. Starting slow, then blasting through a variety of missions, and finally ending with a well balanced pace. - Some missions are badly stretched and lack the fast travel option. - Driving around for 10 minutes just to arrive at your destination and failing due to a technical flaw in the game’s design is the most painful thing you can endure, even Souls games didn’t give me that much grief.
GAMEPLAY ✅
Controls ✅ - Enjoyable but very confusing at the start. Coming from GTA III & Vice City, this was a heavy change. - The auto aim works wonders, although sometimes it’s better to use manual. - Cars feel very good and you can actually improve their skill and controls. - Boats are very enjoyable with the quick turns and acceleration. - Helicopters and planes have a heavy feel, each one with a different control and feeling. Some buttons like the R3 to retract the wheels are wrong.
Mechanics 💟 - Starting with the gang territories, they were frustrating. Each one was confusing to acquire and by the end, a chore. - Like in Vice City there were properties which you acquired by completing missions with the usual cash reward. I so wished there was a taxi one which gave you the fast travel option. - There were some missions hunting bikers for cash and doing different jobs. - The gym for muscle growth, dating, driving, lung capacity and more, all of these had their meter to fill and felt like a chore. The flying and driving schools were cool though.
Exploration 💟 - Impressive for a game made in 2004. So many different buildings which weren’t marked on the map that you could enter. - Based on 3 huge islands there were a whole lot to explore. Starting with collectibles which provide special rewards, hidden weapons, cars, planes, and more. - The map was so huge that you could get lost within a city, sometimes the map was the only way you could escape.
Missions/Events ✅ - I loved each of them, but I hated their length. Some start and end very quickly, while the others have crazy long distances and make your finger hurt by pressing X for too long. - The diversity, pain and fun you had in each of them was a colourful experience. - Starting with the hood, the simplicity, and finishing with the casino heists, which required some crazy feats. For reference, the jet hijack was hilarious.
Difficulty ✴️ - Way harder than expected. The missions in themselves aren’t hard, it’s their longevity. - Advancing into a mission for 20 minutes just to fail due to the lack of health items is very painful. - The last mission was made by sadistic fucks. I think it went on for longer than an hour, and if you fail, you get to experience it all over again. The game was way too rushed if you ask me. - Very hard and incredibly frustrating, that’s what I’m going with.
SOUND DESIGN 💟
Surround Sound 💟 - I loved it. Each interaction, cutscene, music, cars, planes, everything was synched together delivering a beautiful experience. - Sometimes characters would fall behind and you’ll hear them as if it was real life. The distance was felt, effects made you exited, voices created feeling, all around great.
Sound Effects 💟 - Incredible for such a game. As soon as you start, you can feel each car’s engine, people talking to each other, planes flying on top of your head, police chasing criminals and so on. - CJ hurting, people dying, cars getting blown or destroyed, gunfire, tires, so many details that I can’t even write them all down.
Voice Acting 💟 - The game delivered some movie quality acting right here. I was so hyped when I hear S. L. Jackson, he really carried. - Each character had his own accent and personality. Transferring emotions through the screen is hard in a movie, let alone a video game, and this one delivered.
Music 💟 - Each to their own. There’re a whole bunch of radio stations from which you can choose your favorite one. I for once didn’t have a favorite, because each one was perfect in its own way.
VISUALS ✅
Fidelity 💟 - Astronomical achievement. I can’t believe this game came on a DVD and had these amazing details. - The field of view was short indeed, but on such a big scale, texture streaming was impressive. Even when flying through the city, it somehow kept up with the pace.
Performance ✴️ - I wouldn’t go as far as good, but I’d give it an acceptable vote. - Most of the time the frame rate was below 30 with terrible screen tearing and freezes. I do understand though, the game had revolutionary details.
Textures 💟 - Every single thing in Los Santos is incredibly detailed. You could stop by some houses in the wild and admire their design, pick a variety of cars while destroying them and wonder how they did it, look at NPCs in the world and follow their actions. - Each location is well made and doesn’t lack anything really, Rockstar’s craft is on another level.
Effects 💟 - From fires spreading through the wild, sandstorms, rain, waves and much more, such a cool vibe. - Flying around through the clouds and foggy cities was such a great experience!
COMBAT 💟
Flow 💟 - Good progression through enemies. Each one has a health bar, some can be killed with headshots or running them over. - The gore and head explosions are cool. I wish there was total body dismemberment though. - Free aiming is difficult at times, until you get the sensitivity right.
Diversity 💟 - Starting with a normal car run over, then a knife in the neck, a silent shot to the skull, 30 shots to the body, even if already dead, a snipe to the genitals, a rocket to a chopper, a jet with missiles and much more. - So many creative ways to kill people that one can just wonder.
Enemy Variety ✅ - A bunch of gangsters, police, swat, bosses and more, the game has incredible NPC development. - Most of them have the same weapons and make your life harder, but overall very cool.
Weapons 💟 - Super fun and a whole lot of them. The dildo had me cracking. The ability to kill people with that thing already gave this game a 10/10! - Choppers have mini guns and rockets, same as jets but these have an auto aim system as well.
Stealth 💟 - I love stealth in games and this one didn’t disappoint. The way CJ sneaks behind enemies and delivers the final blow with that sweet sound effect is very pleasing. - Most missions have a choice, either sneak or go guns blazing.
DRIVING ✅
Flow ✴️ - Good driving around enjoying a beautiful landscape while listening to some great songs. - The problem lies in NPCs. They occasionally drive into you and cause mayhem. Other than that, they have no sense of awareness. You can sit at a light waiting for it to go green, and they will just honk at you endlessly while passing you aggressively. - Cars have weight and it shows, what I mean is how quickly they get upside down. Not to mention the fact that a car will always blow up if it does so, right?
NPCs ⛔️ - Dumb and critically aggressive. Sometimes you have to avoid them altogether to complete a mission.
Cops ✅ - Coming from previous GTAs, this game was somehow a relief. They were aggressive, sure, but not as aggressive as in previous titles.
Cars/Planes 💟 - Impressive variety. From normal to trucks and finally to super cars. - Boats have different ones with small, medium and large ones. - Helicopters have a cool variety too. Normal, combat, pickup, and so on. - Jets and planes have a unique feel. Some aquaplanes as well. Quite impressive!
Roads 💟 - Very detailed in every way. As an example, if you drive in the rain, the car would have a water print behind it, or the desert would have dust, even in water there’re waves. - Each one is well made and connects to each island through bridges.
WORLD DESIGN 💟
Atmosphere 💟 - The initial vibe wasn’t as good, all dark and without proper scale, but as you progress through the game, it expands like the universe itself. - You start discovering different locations, sights, landscapes, roads, cities and it becomes one of the greatest experiences on PS2.
Surroundings 💟 - Loved each city and desert. You could go on the highway and stop for a couple of seconds just because of the sunrise. Or drive through the city and see a yellow marker that doesn’t have anything on the map, so you go exploring. - Each part of the game has astonishing surroundings and level designs. You can get lost in it.
Landscapes 💟 - Extremely beautiful. For a 2004 game, I bet people back in the day were all ecstatic.
World Destruction ✴️ - Overall good, nothing too impressive on an environmental scale. - The usual car blowing up, planes, boats, motorcycles, and so on. - There’re a couple of locations where there’re some minor level changing destructions, but nothing too impressive.

2024.05.18 21:02 The_Bullet_Magnet A Proposal for Punishing Those Who TK

This post is a trial balloon and something for the devs to consider. Maybe something like this has already been proposed in this subreddit or in other games. IDK. Please improve or add supplemental ideas if you like this proposal.
The idea goes as follows:
If a member of your faction has committed 1 TK in total then helicopter rides should cost $100. If they have committed 2 TKs in total then helicopter rides should cost $200. If they have committed 3 TKs in total then helicopter rides should cost $400. If they have committed 4 TKs in total then helicopter rides should cost $800. Etc., etc.
You get the idea.
Furthermore, the cost to purchase items at the vendors should increase for every TK. Possibly something like a price increase of +50% for 1 TK, +100% for 2 TKs, +200% for 3 TKs etc., etc.
The price you get for selling items at the vendor should decrease for every TK. Possibly something like receiving 50% of normal for 1 TK, 25% of normal for 2 TKs, 12.5% of normal for 3 TKs etc., etc.
Possibly, a TK should cost money. $100 off your account for 1 TK, $200 of your account for 2 TKs, $400 off your account for 3 TKs etc., etc.
The TK punishment should not be permanent of course, and should decay over a period of time. Possibly dropping by 1 TK per hour of off-base game play (or whatever is deemed to be appropriate).
Finally, your in-game map icon should change colour for each TK. Possibly, light blue for 1 TK, yellow for 2 TKs, orange for 3 TKs and red for 4 TKs or more.
Just my thoughts for making TKs punishing and not providing rewards. We also do not want to over-punish those one-off accidental TKs; anyone can panic and shoot their own teammate by accident. It happens.
Note: The numbers and values are only provided as examples and not to be considered as definitive. The devs, if they adopt some system like this, would tweak the values up or down as appropriate.

2024.05.18 20:40 WonderfulPair5770 What am I doing wrong?

I'm on level 35! I learned from this sub that my first mistake was buying a bunch of community buildings. I never get glass, so I've just been sitting with six unfinished projects. The trains are now coming every 4 to 5 hours, and they never have what I need. I'm starting to get airplanes that are asking for goods that I don't even have the factories built for. For instance, last night it wanted 12 plastic bottles, and it gave me 14 hours to fill the order, but my plastic factory had 27 hours left. I was able to reduce the time on one train, but now I can't get gold to upgrade the others.
Here's my second problem: My barn is always full. My fields are always full of things ready to harvest. Half of my factories are sitting quiet because I have too much of whatever they produce. However, my trains, helicopters, and planes always want something I don't have. So while my barn and fields sit full, I'm having to buy what I need from the marketplace hoping to get glass or paint to upgrade my barn.
Is this just the nature of the game? Is this just them trying to get me to pay money for T-Bucks? About once or twice a week I'll buy the piggy bank, but there's no way I'm spending $10 to finish imaginary buildings, lol.
This game is a lot of fun, but it's suddenly become dramatically less fun.

2024.05.18 20:20 BlueEyes0608 Chinese helis even worth grinding?

Just saw a video of the american Cobra (AH-1F). It sits at a BR of 9,7 in GRB, has armor, IRCM, and a fixed 20mm autocannon. While it has all of that, it can carry a max of 8 I-TOW or 8 TOW-2 missiles with good penetration stats along with a nice missile speed and maximum range, along with having thermals on its gunners sight.
Now meet China´s second helicopter, the Z-9W. It has no IRCM, no radar, no armor, a maximum of 4 ATGMS (lmao) which are the worst at its tier by the way, as they have a maximum range of 3km, which the War thunder wiki describes as "suicidal range". Besides that, it doesn´t have a fixed cannon to defend yourself against aircraft or light vehicles, and for some reason unlike its predecessor it doesn´t have thermals on its gunner sight, either. While the new missile has a tandem warhead, its penetration is inferior to its competition surprisingly, and it has awful explosive content so you better aim for weakspots.
What BR does this thing deserve, after everything we have just compared? 10,0 of course.
I feel like every other helicopter in any other nation at its BR or even lower BR does its job better and more efficiently. It does have a maximum of 4 TY-90s or 2 ATGMS and 2 TY-90s, and while TY-90 is a good missile, its not enough of a payload or enough protection systems for your aircraft to even be able to compete with the enemy team´s helicopters, let alone their SPAA.
If you guys have grinded this heli tree, was the experience worth it for you?Is the late game after the grind worth it? I am this close to giving up completely on it.

2024.05.18 18:14 MechaBOI42069 Now that we're nearing the end of support, I thought it would be a good idea to make one last push and repost the big bug list. Please Frontier, fix these bugs before moving onto JWE 3.

This list contains bugs that range from game breaking, to near insignificant. All are included as it would be nice to see most if not all of these fixed. More important bugs are higher on the list.
I'm asking for your help to note any I may have missed and to forward these to Frontier. The game is ending support soon and it would be a shame if these bugs never get fixed.

If there are any bugs I have missed, please do post them in the comments below and I'll add them to the list.

Gameplay Bugs:
  1. Concavenator has a broken fence climb animation that causes it to escape through any fence, even if it fails
  2. Pterosaurs when flying over lagoons sink into them and have trouble escaping
  3. Pterosaurs in general still seem to be getting stuck quite often, causing them to starve and die
  4. The species viewer seems to have a memory leak going on, as it lags more and more the longer you use it
  5. When you have nothing selected in the bulk demolish menu, everything you hover over will be highlighted red
  6. The day-night cycle can cause quite some lag on lower end machines, especially during dusk
  7. There's severe FPS drops when the day/night cycle is active, especially during dusk
  8. Random FPS drops when raising/lowering terrain near buildings

  19. Great inconsistencies of animals that are able to go through the classic JP fence, for instance, Chungkingosaurus can't but every other small stegosaur can. Gigantoraptor is able to fit through despite the neck clipping greatly through
  20. Scorpios Rex does not do its custom struggle animation against medium carnivores anymore, only on other Scorpios Rex
  21. Archelon is for some reason counted as a small marine in the hatchery, despite the Nothosaurus that is half its size being counted as a medium
  22. Dsungaripterus requires challenge mode levels to be beaten to unlock the exclusive patterns/skins, unlike every other DLC Species

Visual Bugs:
  1. Ichthyosaurus currently has a broken social animation
  2. Banana Trees placed by the tropical forest brush lack a shadow
  3. Dsungaripterus turns into a weird texture mess when viewed from a distance

  53. The Feathered T. rex has smaller footprints than the other T. rex skins
  54. A lot of species have their pattern colors go over their eyes**, *I've listed all I have found at the bottom of this post.**
  55. JW Attraction Banner - Dome uses the wrong icon in the build menu, it specifically uses the JW Attraction Banner - Log icon

Audio Bugs:
  1. There are a lot of sounds in the game not affected by the capture mode slow motion feature

  15. Carcharodontosaurus makes a Carnotaurus sound during its small sauropod takedown
  16. Cryolophosaurus uses the Tyrannosaurus rex music for some reason

*List of creatures where the pattern goes over the eyes, not matter how minorly:

The following are bugs Frontier has fixed since I first posted this list, major kudos!
  1. Spinoceratops is now listed to have appeared in Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous in its INGEN Database

  5. The kill animation for Gigantoraptor on medium and large carnivores has been fixed
  6. The 2022 Parasaurolophus skins no longer have messed up animations when being hunted by Spinoraptor and Tarbosaurus
  7. Dinosaurs clipping and phasing through fences causing them to breakout seems to have finally been fixed
  8. The Malta Jeep having a lot of bouncing and flipping issues seems to have been fixed

2024.05.18 17:52 ToasterTron2000 I don't want air vehicle nerfs but MAN does the Wildcat suck.

In good, balanced game design, imagine a triangle. The three points are mobility, damage, and range. In good design philosophy, regardless if it's a boss, a weapon, etc, you should only allow something to have two of those points, not all three.
However in the current state of the game, the air vehicles have all three and there isn't a lot of counter play to them. I am NOT advocating for nerfs however. This is a rare instance where having all three makes sense!
With that being said though, in my experience having tier 1'd the wildcat, attack heli, and stealth jet, it is my opinion that the Wildcat is an absolute pushover of an AA vehicle. If you are a skilled pilot, ESPECIALLY if you're in the new Drauger, the Wildcat's threat to your existence is negligible. Most of the air vehicles in the game can do A LOT more damage and flat-out kill a Wildcat while being comfortably outside it's effective range.
TLDR in short: In a world where Draugers can JDAM fish from the skybox and attack helicopters can wire guide missiles across the whole map, the Wildcat has had its range chopped off too many times to be a viable AA vehicle. It just simply doesn't do enough damage at range to be a threat in comparison to The ranged damage air vehicles to do it in turn. The current best AA vehicles in the game are still the TOR tank and the stealth jet.

2024.05.18 17:23 Herculesjyt Zomber Problem must be addressed!!!

Zomber Problem must be addressed!!!
At this point the Sim Game mode should be renamed to "Grind Plane Events here because there is a 3x multiplier mode". I am absolutely sick of being the only player in the lobby, max 1 or 2 with me maybe, who are just casually flying around and killing people as intended.
People get mad at you for being 'normal' at this point and not exploiting, and it needs to be stopped. Changes needed to be made months ago, possibly years.
The below screenshots will tell you everything you need to know.
PS : PvE is only a gamemode for Helicopters, If Gaijin wanted to create one for planes...they would.
Apologies for my language in the game, I was very frustrated while playing against these Zombers.

2024.05.18 16:33 No-Influence-2473 Why can’t we have a helicopter on standby in important games for ground to be dried?

Like the title says, I was wondering with all the money poured in IPL, why can’t crucial matches with rain prediction have a helicopter on standby that can hover in the stadium and dry it out in 5 mins?

RCB have beaten their three biggest rivals - CSK, SRH and KKR - to reach the finals in what is their best chance ever to win the cup.
But their greatest challenge is yet to come. In a stroke of genius, Shilpa Shetty has used her contacts at Big Brother UK to design a simulator to convince all RR players that a year has passed since the group stage matches and this is actually IPL 2025. With their newfound first-half-of-the-tournament form, Sanju and his men unleash a storm of boundaries at Chepauk to post the first 300 in the IPL.
It's RCB's batting innings. The team can't believe they're somehow in the final after being 1-7 a few weeks back and are a bundle of nerves. Eight wickets fall one after the other in the first few overs even as Koach looks on shocked from the other end. Maxi is the next batter in. He is just about to sacrifice his wicket to a risky reverse sweep when he sees his disapproving in-laws' faces in the crowd. Not being brave enough to bear those looks of disapproval until his flight out of Chennai, he vows to post an unbeaten 100+ score in the match.
But what's this? Kohli has gone into tuk-tuk mode. There's no way Maxi can score 301 on his own and realising this, people have started turning off theirJioCinema streams. Ambani will have none of it and quickly has every screen in the stadium show clips of Gambhir talking about Kohli.
That's enough to recharge Kohli's batteries and activate his Super-Saiyan transformation fueled by the power of Delhi-boy anger. Before you know it, RCB are 295/8 at 19.4. Just one six to end a 16-year wait... Kohli can already taste victory and as he is deciding on the number of flying kisses to pass on to the missus, he becomes too distracted. OUT!!
Faf now has a unique problem on his hands. DK, the only person yet to bat in the eleven, realised in the mid-innings break that his true calling was to raise the commentary standards in the IPL and is in the commentary box trading banter with the insiders. Every other person he could send as an impact player is already on their way to Bangalore for the celebration concert. With no choice left, he goes to Jay Shah and bribes him with some jalebi-fafda from Sowcarpet to make a last minute change to the Impact player rule...
Sanju is tired of waiting for the last RCB batsman and is about to appeal for timed out, when the DJ starts playing a familiar song about a certain bird. The whole of Chepauk lets out a gasp as the first inter-team Impact player of the IPL walks in. Half his jersey is yellow and the other half red-blue. There's a logo of a dosa and filter coffee in the centre to represent the two cities he now represents. The last thing anyone hears before collectively orgasming to the helicopter shot are the words, "I told you my last game would be in Chennai".
