Hello, Im confused what my rotation should be as a disc priest while levelling in cata, I'm currently level 35, I've been spamming shadow word pain and mind last as well as smite. I'm curious what spells should I be casting and is it even worth using mind blast when smite does the same damage for less mana?

I played a feral druid all throughout WOTLK and had a ton of fun with it- in large part due to the “difficulty” of the spec (at least relatively speaking), including tracking all the different timers and what not.
I’m not loving the outlook for cat druids in cata and would love to hear about some other dps specs that would be more competitive on the meters and aren’t just a very simple rotation. Thanks!

I am struggling to decide and lock a class for Cata for my main. Right now the choices are mostly between Shaman, Warlock, hunter or DK. Currently have all four classes at 5k gs now mostly from prepatch pvp gear and been doing a fair bit of gammas on them. In cata, I am going to PvE 90% of the time, but will def dabble into some pvp for fun (prolly rbgs). I'll briefly lay down some points of interest for me for each:

Shaman I would play mostly Ele, it's just stupidly fun and satisfying to see big crits, but the rotation can get a bit stale sometimes since it is so easy. I am also worried about open world quests/elite soloing and survivability (also pvp)
demo warlock is pretty much an s tier spec in cata, very good at pve, flavourful and engaging rotation and immersion into lore/rp of the class, great utility (ppl will literally fight each other for your link haste buff), severely underplayed (its a nice bonus since it.means its easier to.find spots), can solo most elite quests, can go affli for serious pvping. Just worried a bit about the raid fights which mostly involve movement, whereas demo just like to stand still and cast
DK - not a huge fan of unholy, dont really like snapshotting gargoyle and waiting for all procs/buffs to align perfectly to parse well, its a very hit or.miss playstyle for me. I'd rather lean into frost dual wielding, either masterfrost or obliterate build, its fun and good dps right now. Also added bonus blood is the best tank, can solo dungeons elite quests etc very easily and even occasionally tank some heroics when dps queue times get too long. Also melee life is fairly fun, I am just worried there will be too many dks around and hard to find raid spots, especially when not playing unholy
hunter: survival has fun rotation, insane dps, been liking it so far for the past few weeks, wouldve loved a bit more melee elements added to it, but its cool. Obviously.good at questing/farming/soloing elites etc, my main concern is being locked into a single role/playstyle and MM not being viable outside arenas in cata and BM is kinda meh

What would be your choice of these 4 and why? Thanks for reading!

What happened to the shaman totems? I feel like the class is now just homogenous with any other class. The game is becoming something where the mechanics of a class don't really matter and any rotation is just interchangeable given they change an animation to make it look like it belongs to that class. (things like affliction as health stealing and dots make sense).
I understand the trivialness to placing them in the fast pace it is now, but it'd be nice to maybe just have them appear once you cast a filler spell or something?

I want to get into PvP in Cata however I’d describe myself as pretty rubbish at the game.
Which of the above would be the best for me to use for BG’s and 2v2 arena?
I’ve heard MM Hunter is a good balance of ease/ability in PvP, thoughts please?

I wasn't around in S2. I came back for S3 only to find out that my main had been nerfed to the ground. And by looking at logs from both seasons, it looks like the spec that took the blame was holy paladin.
SPriests are back, mages are back, aug is back, and now you got VDH instead of Guardian Druids and resto druids in top comps.
Meanwhile, hpala is borderline unplayable. Our hps is low and we need to press a billion buttons to make bars move and our dps is abysmal. HR and CL spam on my resto shaman does double the dps of my 20ilvl higher hpala on full rotation with wings! WTF?
But this isn't just about the numbers. The playstyle is clunky as hell. And yet, still no announcement about how they're gonna fix this mess of a spec in TWW.

So at it's peak I think blizzard had 7 maybe 8 class developers which means many classes shared one developer. For instance the shaman and monks hate the same developer. How a class feels and plays is so essential at all levels of play ranging from leveling, to questing to endgame and PVP. So it baffles me that some classes like mages receive a ton of attention but hunters are widely ignored. Blizzard is making North of 1B/year from Wow and only employees around 800 employees for WoW itself. Why on earth can they not hire at least 1 developer per class? Because when a developer doesn't play a certain spec, it gets ignored because they are pulled to cover 5 other specs as well, maybe more.
And again, this isn't just "endgame balance" it's about fundamental design of a class, it's rotation and defensive kit, it's talents and stat allocation, how it feels wacking gnolls or raid bosses. It's important for literally everyone who plays the game.
Edit: just for clarification purposes yes there are more developers than sex in regards of working on classes as a whole but there's only six people in charge of making high level decisions such as spells and talent trees general balancing and how things work and function I'm sure there are dozens of artist and people who actually do the coding for spells and abilities but in regards of people making decisions and overall design and thought process of each class currently.

With the approach of Cataclysm, the expansion that created my addiction to this game, I thought it would be fun to reminisce on personal greatest moments in this game. For me, this starts in Cata.
Some info to know, I played a dwarf paladin. I was a super noob for pretty much all of wrath, only ever getting to level 70, maybe not even that. Just sat around goldshire with my cousin and some randos most of the time. When I did dungeons, I used to go in as a prot dps, because I liked that spec the most. I can't tell you how many times I've been shouted at by other people in dungeon queues lol. My favorite things to do in WoW at the time were to just solo big things that walked the earth, like the fel reaver in Hellfire Peninsula, and later that Thrym guy in Zul'Drak.
So fast forward to Cata, and I actually start leveling. I see all these dudes with purple armor that I couldn't wear and I wanted some of that, cuz it looked cool. So I put in the effort and I get my first max level character in this game. Fun thing to note, my first run of the Stonecore, the drake dropped and I won that shit with a 100 roll. Everyone was pissed off and linked DPS meters (first time I've ever seen that before) to say that I didn't deserve it.
So anyways, I hit level 85 and the only place I know I can access that delicious purple armor was the PVP vendor, so I got a whole fucking set. Felt like a total bad ass. This whole time I've been just sorta guild hopping around, and I eventually ended on a group called "the Cruzaders" ran by a guy we'll call Brew. Brew was the fucking best. Father of 3 already, just gaming a little here and there. When I found out that this guild did RAIDS, I immediately messaged Brew to try and get in. He asked me what my dps was and I had told him that I don't know what that means lol.
Brew was the first person to tell me about addons, and he sat down with me for a few hours to explain not only about them, but about my rotation, my gear, and what would be required of me to join this guild on a raid. I remember the first time he asked me to smack a training dummy for 3 minutes to see what my dps was. The adrenaline was coursing through my veins, I was so nervous to impress, I didnt wanna fuck anything up. I popped all my cooldowns and RIPPED IT. By the end of those 3 minutes, my dps was a solid 3k... Not even close to what he was asking of me. He said I needed to be doing at least 10k to get in, and explained what I could do to get there.
Step 1 was changing my gear. I needed to step it up in ilvl and get rid of all this PVP gear I was hauling around. Well guess what was just released? ZA/ZG, baby! I spent the next 2 weeks farming heroics and ZA/ZG's for gear, as well as reading guides to improve my DPS because my rotation was definitely not up to snuff.
Time for the next sit-down with Brew. Same thing, 3 minute timer on a training dummy. This time, we were going crazy, ending with 13k dps! I felt like a beast, and he gave me the greenlight to show up to raid. I think we killed Halfus in BoT, and wiped on the dragon duo for 2 hours, but that was my first taste of raiding, and it was a thirst that runs deep to this day. Ill never stop chasing that dragon. This was the beginning of my WoW career, that whole adventure.
Brew was an amazing dude, incredibly patient, as well as kind. He was my GM until I wanted to move forward with pushing harder bosses in MoP but I stayed in contact with him for years and years afterwards. One day I got a call from a mutual friend, we'll call her Megan (I followed her to this next guild), and she told me Brew passed away unexpectedly. I cried a lot for this man. He was like a father to me, to an extent. I would sit in ventrillo with him and Megan for hours and just talk about bullshit. I miss him a lot, and I hope his family is doing well. im resto druid in wotlk and going to cata i want to reroll... i know that resto druids will be hard to play, weaker than the rest of the healers...
So im trying to decide between:
1) Holy Paladin - i like the plate armor, heals, utility but i know that they have problems with mobility
2) Resto Shaman - i saw that they got riptide, totems, shield and mail armor but im afraid of mana and no dmg
3) Disco Priest - penance, quick heals, PS, bubbles...but im afraid of survability and mobility
I understand that every class has pros and cons... so i would like to ask you on YOUR opinion.
What do u think, which class will be HARD to kill ?

I never played Cata back in the day (was a classic Andy vanilla-wotlk). Excited to give this a go with a solid guild and group of friends. However I have no idea how disc priest gameplay has changed from wotlk to Cata and how to optimize my play in this expansion.
I’ve watched all of the 4 video guides on YouTube that all said different stuff. I’ve scoured the classic priest discord to find mostly talk about SoD with minimal cata chatter. Are there any min max solid guides for pre raid bis lists, rotations, talents, glyphs, etc? Feel like a noob but I’m not finding the info that I thought would be out there.

Having seen the love some other classes (cough Druids) have received over the past few years I feel like Shamans have been massively neglected when it comes to updates to spells, animations and models.
I love the Shaman class thematically and I’m hoping to main it going into TWW but I have a few issues, suggestions and ideas in the hope we may get some attention as we approach the release of the expansion. I’m no pro, but I have played all 3 specs in various levels of content from PvP to M+ & Raids.
These are aimed at the class in general but some ideas will also filter into each spec.
Ascendance, Elementals & Primal Elementalist - This ability has been in the game since Cata with a model that is now over 10 years old, and frankly doesn’t even feel like it really fits the class thematically. Rather than just ask for a new model I think Ascendance should be replaced by a ‘summon elemental’ ability for all 3 specs. For example:

Elemental keeps its trusty Fire elemental and Lava Burst has no CD for it’s duration. Maybe add some LvB splash damage. Storm elemental talent is removed from the tree.
Enhance can talent into Storm elemental which turns Stormstrike into Windstrike for its duration and it casts lightning bolts at the target.
Resto can talent into Water elemental which duplicates the shamans healing and distributes evenly to allies.

These should all be essentially mandatory (high up on the tree, as per Elemental) and then ‘Primal Elementalist’ can become a new capstone to chase on the shaman class tree.
Primal Elementalist - Capstone replacing stone skin/tranquil air totems.

Fire - Meteor and existing abilities
Storm - Extra casted ability can be a tornado on the target that does some AoE damage.
Water - Extra casted ability can be a version of Wellspring.
Earth - Extra casted ability remains a stun or perhaps an earthquake as per Torghast would be a nice upgrade.

There are many new elemental models in the game now, particularly in Dragonflight so there are lots of updates to choose from. Heck, give us barber shop customisations like you have done for Warlocks and Druids so we can choose our Elemental models and Ghost Wolf (more on that below!).
Deeply Rooted Elements - This can remain as it is, as a capstone for all 3 specs granting a chance to summon your elemental for 6 sec.
*As Elemental will effectively be ‘losing’ a CD, I’d propose a buff to Stormkeeper or perhaps some kind of ‘Raging Storm Totem’ which creates a storm in a large area (Starfall) filling the fantasy of a stormcaller like the Druid spell ‘Hurricane’ of old.
If Ascendance is to stay as it is, at least update the model! Perhaps similar to what we see with Dathea in Vault.
DEFENSIVES - I understand this is a sensitive subject with the power creep of personal defensives in the game today but Shamans have historically been one of the squishiest classes. ‘Burrow’ was added as a PvP talent which is awesome but would be OP in PvE scenarios and doesn’t quite feel right from a fantasy PoV for me.
A few ideas -
Stoneskin Totem - Not the current iteration, but an old version that gives the shaman a small absorb shield. From a WotLK glyph iirc.
Earthen Harmony - Talent moved to class tree
Empower Shields - Similar to the PvP talent this would empower your active shield(s) for a short period of time on a short CD, 1min - 1.2min.

Earth shield - consumes up to 4 charges to grant an absorb shield or just reduces damage taken by 20% for 6 secs
Water shield - Reduces mana cost of spells for 6 secs
Lightning shield - Increases damage by 500% for 6 secs

Thematically feels great and would help prevent one shots in PvE and being an auto kill target by melee in PvP.
RAID BUFF - Yes, the original bloodlust raid buff class is now one of the only classes to not have a unique raid buff! Ele, Enhance and even Resto are often overlooked in group content when there’s druids, mages, priests, DH etc available.
Ancestral Might - A small 60 min raid wide Crit/Mastery buff, like fortitude, motw etc.
OR
Skyfury Totem - A weaker version of the PvP talent to increase crit damage for a short period of time.
Finally a few quick fire suggestions as this is getting quite long:
Elemental -

Two charges of flame shock or chain lighting spreads flame shock to two targets via a talent.
Lava Burst damage scaling with Crit rating by default.
Diverse spell usage across all builds (not just all lighting or all fire). It’s looking like an issue with current hero talents. We should still weave all elements even if we are a storm bringer imo.
Mastery to also increase damage of overloads slightly rather than just a % chance of it to happen
Rework Icefury. Incorporating frost spells is cool but it starts to feel bloated and clunky

Enhance -

Diverse spell usage across all builds (not just all lighting or all fire). Likewise with Ele, its looking like an issue with current hero talents
More damage put into the actual melee abilities otherwise we just feel like a melee ele sham with huge LB’s and Ele blasts.

Resto -

Less bloat. There’s no need for both wellspring and Downpour with all the healing tools we already have.

Moar customisation/glyphs! Glyphs are the perfect way to add flavour and some personalisation, I don’t understand why they aren’t utilised more.

Update lightning bolt and other old animations!
Glyph of Chain heal - Old golden/spirit animation from back in the day
Glyph of Ghost Talbuk - for our Draenei friends
Glyph of Ghost Ram - for our Dwarven brethren
Glyph of Ghost Bakar - Goodest boy!
Glyph of Windfury - Old animation similar to that of gust of wind
All class mounts available for any spec. Contradicts my ‘Summon Elemental’ suggestion above but I don’t see why I can’t ride a Storm Elemental as an Ele Sham.

TL:DR In an expansion based entirely around the elements and primalists we received absolutely nothing cosmetically compared to that of druids and warlocks! Our major CD is now 12 years old!

I thought we would discuss the most fun spec in Cata, for a change, instead of the highest pumper or big numbers. I recently leveled and did a few Gammas on my fire mage and I must say I don't enjoy it as much as I had hoped for. What is the most fun spec in Cata for you and how would you convince me to give it a try? I don't necesarily care about DPS meters, just looking for engaging rotations and something that makes sense as a whole. Mostly looking at DPS but am open to other suggestions as well. Also open to be convinced on fire mage, maybe gets uber fun with X % crit or something, I am probably not there just yet

So title, basically. playing cata too, but this question is about retail, which i play way more casually. now with the MOP turbo version coming out im looking for a new main.
so far my main has always been rogue and coming from an RP realm, I dearly love her.
but I'm very fed up with how rogue works: too many buttons, not enough happening. overly complicated for very little reward.
I'm on a rather small rp realm and haven't had a guild since like bfa, so being able to solo content, especially harder rare mobs etc is very important to me.
Love the rogue energy/cp system, also hunter with focus. but can't really see hunter as my main ( i prefer melee)
i just cant decide between melee classes. (never played warrior or monk above lvl 30)
basically looking for opinions about which melee is the best for soloing, has decent self heal and no overly complicated weird rotation
would also appreciate any insights into the leveling experience, soloing old content, especially the more recent expacs etc.
